What's in a Middle Name?

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

When I first heard that Barack Obama said he had decided to include his middle name, "Hussein," in his swearing-in ceremony, I wondered whether the satirical Web site ScrappleFace had tricked the mainstream media.

Surely, after Obama's acolytes scolded commentators for using Barack's Muslim-sounding middle name during the campaign, the president-elect himself wouldn't so quickly reverse course. But, in fact, he did.

In an exclusive interview with the Chicago Tribune, Obama said he'll use his full name in the ceremony like every other president.

I have no problem with that, as far as it goes. But Obama went further. He's not using his middle name simply because it's his middle name, but as part of a deliberate strategy to "reboot America's image" among the world's Muslims. He also plans to deliver a major speech in an Islamic capital, possibly within the first 100 days of his presidency.

Why, you might ask, is all this necessary?

Simple: because of President Bush's myriad sins against Muslims since 9/11. The Associated Press reports, as if imparting objective fact, "The U.S. image globally has taken a deep hit during President George W. Bush's two terms in office, primarily because of opposition to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, harsh interrogation of prisoners, the indefinite detention of terrorist suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and mistreatment of inmates at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq."

What (SET ITAL) is (END ITAL) an objective fact is that Obama is communicating that very message. In elaborating, he says we must employ a new diplomacy, which would emphasize inclusiveness and tolerance, as well as an unflinching stand against terrorism. In other words, American diplomacy under President Bush has been intolerant and noninclusive.

This is just a rehashing of the tired Democratic talking point that Bush is a go-it-alone unilateralist who didn't build a broad international coalition to join our invasion against Iraq.

Democrats always have distorted the record on this issue. Bush tried tirelessly to talk our "Old Europe" allies into joining our coalition, but many declined because of their corrupt self-interests.

Democrats were aware of this and ignored it because Old Europe's recalcitrance provided a convenient cover for them to oppose the war they wanted to oppose but were forced to support because of overwhelming public opinion. Just as with their false charge that Bush didn't try a bipartisan approach with them on domestic policy, what Democrats really meant is that Bush pursued policies with which (SET ITAL) they (END ITAL) couldn't agree -- and thus he was unilateralist, intolerant and partisan.

To be more specific, what Democrats have been saying and Obama is now repeating is that President Bush has alienated America from the Muslim world by attacking Iraq without justification. They obviously believe Muslims have a right to be outraged at us and we need to make amends and show them we are decent people.

I don't care how many mind-numbed e-mail responses this generates, but we did have ample justification for invading Iraq, even apart from the WMD question, including Saddam's willful violation of 17 U.N. resolutions and postwar treaties.

But what is most troubling about Obama's plan to "reboot" our image in the Muslim world is its unspoken premise that terrorism is fueled by our mistreatment of Muslims and that if we'd just be kinder to the Muslim world, terrorism would melt away. If you're skeptical, just research Obama's statements about the root causes of terrorism, which to him include poverty -- the left's old economic determinism template. I wonder whether he plans to "spread the wealth" with them, as well. I'm sure a few extra mil would have deterred Osama.

But as I recall, America didn't start this war against Islamic terrorists, who had been waging war against us well before 9/11. We are not the ones whose places of worship and schools indoctrinate our children to hate nonbelievers. We're not the ones who treat our women like chattel, engage in honor killings of family members, target innocent civilians, or dance in the streets when innocents are murdered.

Obviously, it doesn't fit Obama's palette of predispositions to recognize that America was not wrong in liberating Iraq -- something the self-styled compassionate left should be ashamed to have opposed on humanitarian reasons alone; that we do not torture enemy detainees (Abu Ghraib was not the rule, but an aberration); and that we do the opposite of mistreating prisoners at Gitmo.

It also may not occur to Obama that in any negotiations -- his messiahship notwithstanding -- it takes two to make a deal. But he may learn soon enough the hard way if Britain persists in balking on his request that they send more troops to Afghanistan and Iran keeps dissing him.

If Obama truly intends to advocate (SET ITAL) for (END ITAL) America instead of reflexively blaming us first, he's in store for a quick comeuppance.

Limbaugh,
You seem to be the only one who is "mind-numbed" per Iraq and terrorism.

Do you not believe your president? Bush has explicitely said that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and in the recent interview said that al-Qaeda came to Iraq after our invasion. And Cheney said that even if we had known that the WMD's were a fraud...we still would have invaded.

So let me summarize this for you since you seem even dumber than your big mouth brother:

1. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

2. Al-Qaeda was not in Iraq prior to our invasion.

3. The WMD chase was a non-issue.

4. Terrorism was not the reason we invaded Iraq.

Are you still with me on this? Are you paying attention to the above?

So that means that we invaded a weak nation to remove a despicable but mostly impotent dictator who posed no threat to USA soil or citizens. And in the process it has cost us over 35,000 killed or maimed (mostly young) Americans. Not to mention the $340,000,000.00 per day that Team Bush has put on our kids and grandkids credit cards to pay for the Bush war.

We can make lists all of the horrific things that the nut case Islamic terrorists have done but it will never change the fact that Iraq was the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time. And most terrorism experts now conclude that it has produced more terrorists than it got rid of.

Yes, Obama does have much work to do and will likely fail. But advice from a biased goober like you is about as useful as Barry Bonds advising a "Don't Use Steroids" campaign.

wobbie and hul donkhoo
Ah, yes,

As usual wobbie sits with 'baited' breath ( I know the proper term is 'Bated' breath )
waiting for the Limbaugh column.

wobbie actually 'baits' his breath with Smegma. A concoction many Frenchmen use as mouthwash.

I am fairly certain that wobbie's alter-ego, hul donkyhoo uses the same concotion.

Rumor has it, that's the reason hul donkyhoo got cashiered from the 'Air Farce'
( hul donkhoo's branch of the Air Force ).

The next few hours will prove this to a certainty.

The Rat

Ranger Robs
Which race are you accusing us right-wingers of ism-ing.

Racism for you to say it

His middle name is like the N-word. He can say it but if you say it you are a racist.

campaign
During the campaign, conservative commentators like Ann Coulter used Obama's middle name as a slur and to ratchet up the fears of ignoramous' who mistakenly believed that he was a radical Muslim.

So thats a big difference in Obama using his middle name proudly for his inauguration.

Muslem sounding name?
It is a Muslim Name.Vever mind about covert religious leanings, what about a legal birth certificate?
He must prove this before he takes office, otherwise he remains an imposter to me.

Note to self...
Read the COLUMNS here at TH but never, NEVER (okay, maybe sometimes..Oh no! I already regret that!), NEVER read the comments! It is simply too much work cleaning the stupid off of my screen. And it never seems to come out anyway. In fact, I think it's actually (DUNT-DUNT-DUUUUH!)multiplying...
EXPONENTIALLY!!! AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHH!!!
"Dang that Lucy, I can't believe she actually pulled the football back again..."

Barack 'Baby Torturer' Obama

2000-2001
=========
Obama opposes a bill that defines as a “person” a fully born baby who survives an abortion.

Obama votes “present” on legislation that would require doctors to give medical attention to babies who survive abortions. Obama argues that defining “…a pre-viable fetus" that survived an abortion as a "person" or "child would essentially bar abortions, because the Equal Protection Clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an anti-abortion statute."

2002-2003
=========
In 2002, Obama, as an Illinois legislator, votes against the “Induced Infant Liability Act,” a law meant to protect the lives of babies who “inadvertently” survive attempted abortions and then need medical attention to survive; Obama’s is the sole vote against the bill, and a similar bill later passes unanimously in the United States Senate.

Obama votes against an Illinois bill banning state funding of late term abortions.

In 2003, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act again comes up in the Illinois Senate; as chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee, Obama shelves the bill, preventing it from even being brought to the Senate floor for a vote.

Michelle Obama, in February of 2004, sends a fund-raising letter with "alarming news" that "right-wing politicians" had passed a law preventing partial-birth abortions, which she called "a legitimate medical procedure;" she asks supporters to pay $150 to attend a luncheon for her candidate husband, who would fight against "cynical ploy[s]" to stop late-term abortions.

2005-2006
=========
Obama votes against the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, which would prevent minors from being taken across state lines without the consent of the parents in order to have an abortion.

Maximum Illogic & Lacking Evidence Too
If "most of the right wing are just stupid" where are the: 1) Howard Stern, Zogby/Ziegler interviews, 2) abysmally low test scores on the American Civics Literacy Test, 3) books like the one written by Dr. Lyle Rossiter on Liberals as mentally ill, and 4) Wal*Mart Stampede and jackasses braying outside the OJ sentencing courtroom pix and videos showing right wing stupidity like that shown of leftwing Lib Dem Obamaniacs?
Race has nothing to do with "the Birth Certificate business." Obama is "very roused up by his [several] name[s]" - Barack Hussein Obama and Barry Sotero - as he wrote about them in Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope. In the latter he tried to explain away his birth to a Muslim Marxist Kenyan father and raising in his "formative years" by an Indonesian Muslim as "my exotic background," p. 120 of the The Audacity.
If leftist Lib Dem Obamaniacs spent less time listening to Rush - they mention him so often - and more time reading, if only they could read, they might know something about the 40-something-year-old man with a minimal footprint that they have elected.
Be honest now: Who here has read one or both of the biographical books bearing Obama's name? Y=Yes, No=No, No answer or a waffle=No.

Who Hates America?
I think that if you take an honest count of the comments, you'll find that the left-leaning really are the hate America crowd. They hate business, they hate religion, they "loath" the military, they seem to hate (free) speech when it doesn't agree with them, they hate black conservatives, they should move to California so that they can all be together.

George will be proven correct
Poor George he cannot get any positives from anything and is blamed for everything even the weather. He unfortunately is much like Harry Truman who made monumental decisions and was hated at the time. History when viewed with truth and honesty proved otherwise. W will be proven right in time and especially as Oboma drives deeper into the wrong direction in many ways.

Can't argue facts? Attack the person!
Great article! It's factual accuracy is confirmed and validated when it is attacked. Those that attack (as already witnessed above) do not argue the facts laid out in this article, but instead are more comfortable attacking and stereotyping those who read it. (Isn't stereotyping a form of racism?). I do not agree with Bush on all issues but I do appreciate and thank him for his commitment to preventing another attack on our soil. His actions facilitated the removal of 550 metric tons of yellow cake uranium from Iraq thus preventing its use in radiological dispersal devices (RDD's) here in America.
Now get back to work! Millions of illegal immigrants on welfare are depending on you.
Global warming is a Hoax!
Peace Out!

Obama...
...is a Harvard trained lawyer.Surely,if he was ashamed of his name he would have had it changed years ago.So why the big deal about us Cons using his middle name?

"Barak"...Muslim.
"Hussien"...Muslim.
"Obama"...Muslim (NOT Irish!).

...and don't forget...
The Muslims in Kenya consider him one of theirs!

To The Nitwits
To the nitwits on this site who say that the Iraq War was the wrong war or that there was no justification, I say you are repeating deceitful left wing propaganda designed to impose defeat again on American arms.

Regime change was the policy adopted on Bill Clinton's watch in 1998 by unanimous vote of Congress in the Iraq Liberation Act. The congressional authorization for the invasion in the Spring of 2003 was adopted almost unanimously; and that congressional authorization had 23 "whereas" clauses that stated the reasons for the removal of Saddam.

Those reasons included Saddam's violation of 17 U.N. arms resolutions, Saddam's use of terror and torture against his own populaiton, Saddam's use of nerve gas against the Kurds, Saddam's support of terrorism in permitting terrorist training camps to operate on Iraqi soil and the threat Saddam would use WMDs. Since then, the only disputed reasons have been (i) Saddam's support of terrorism and (ii) Saddam's WMDs. As to (i), Saddam did have ties with terrorism, including an agreement with al Qaeda contemplating arms transfer -- the 9/11 Commission found that while Saddam was not drectly tied to 9/11, Saddam did have ties with terrorism. As for (ii), Iraqi Air Force General Georges Sada has repeatedly stated and written that Saddam moved his WMDs to Syria right before the invasion, and we still found stockpiles of the raw materials to make WMDs, including 550 metric tons of yellow cake uranium that the NY Times reported in July 2008 was shipped out of Iraq.

The Iraq War was the right war and had amole justification. We are safer for it.

Seven years after 9/11....
Attacked by Muslim fundamentalists on 9/11, we foolishly elect an inexperienced social agitator lawywer with a Muslim name seven years later.

Someone with Marxist leanings and has had numerous associations with anarchists, communists, terrorists and radical muslims. BHO was protected by the MSM, no doubt about it. His light resume and radical relationships were masked.

Furthermore, someone who has never held a private sector/business world job - ever. Someone who is a true academic, full of theories and not much else.

How pathetic.

Saddam WAS a WMD
Excellent list, Phil.

I notice a lot of you respond to Robbie, which is good for me since I've not read anything he posts for many months as I'm afraid doing so will cause my I.Q. to fall precipitously. He does serve a purpose, though - gets me to the bottom of the thread faster. It's fun to imagine him in his Mommie's basement, wet spot forming on the lower part of his jammies as he opens TH and finds a new column by Coulter, Limbaugh or Adams. Is it just me or does he avoid Sowell's powerful intellect?

Was it Mark Twain who advised never to argue with an idiot?

How can you argue with someone whose "facts" and "truth" aren't based in reality? Hal, Don Juan, Robbie and a few others are a study in liberal lunacy. They are true believers in the unbelievable.

What a pathetic life these trolls live. Wish I could sit on a website all day long and post idiotic drivel, but alas I'm still a member of the working stiff class and must get ready to launch out of here.

You act as if this isn't true. It is. Tell all the lies you like. Cover your eyes and block your ears as much as you want that does not change reality. The "we create our own reality" statement is shown for the absurdity it always was. But nice try to lie again

"...But what is most troubling about Obama's plan to "reboot" our image in the Muslim world is its unspoken premise that terrorism is fueled by our mistreatment of Muslims and that if we'd just be kinder to the Muslim world, terrorism would melt away...."

NO ONE on the Obama team, let alone President-elect Obama, believes the lie you wrote above. Your classic "...unspoken premise..." is only a cover to lie about a subject, this time the coming Obama Administration. It does aid our enemies by giving them false expectations and encourages them to attack us but hey when did your patriotism EVER get in the way of your sick politics? I know the answer, as I am certain you do.

So, How inclusive does he intend to be?
Will he eschew swearing in with his hand on the Bible as further evidence of reaching out to the Muslims? Or maybe he'll use the Koran?

Who have we elected? How ironic that he was 'upset' by the use of his middle name during the race for office, and will now embrace it to curry favor with the Muslims!

He told us in his book that if the rubber met the road he would side with the Muslims and no one was paying attention. Everyone scattered like rats from the hint that racism or intolerance might be slapped on their heads if they challenged him.

Political Correctness has been our demise. I would laugh were it not so un-funny.

What's in a last name?
Is it not amusing how the name "Limbaugh," whether it be attached to David or Rush, stirs the wrath of the lefties? Whenever D.L. shares an opinion on TH, you can be certain that the liberal attack rats will emerge from their dirty little holes and reprint their same old bumper sticker arguments.

I believe their hatred for everything "Bush" may only be surpassed by their hatred for everything "Limbaugh."

Bush bashing bashes US
You lib-dolts have smeared, slandered and denigrated POTUS to such an extent, not even your savior, the black massiah will be able to resurrect it. Blame Bush for everything, deny any dhimmicrat culpability - you're only fooling yourselves.

Obummer will soon be a laughing stock around the world for his naive and failed, socialist policies. While the rest of the planet is turning away from Marxist stupidity, we are rushing headlong into it.

I won't be laughing, though. I never thought I'd have to experience a great depression like my parents, but as the 8 ball says, all signs point to it.

My strategy? Stock up on rice, beans and bullets.

What the left fails to realize
or admit, is that after 9/11 the entire arab world cheered and rejoiced over our national anguish. The arab world only understands force and to not retaliate would have been a sign of weakness in their eyes opening us up to further and more horrific aggression. Like it or not, we needed to strike back. But since these terrorist are stateless cowards, the question became "who to hit?".

Afghanistan was the obvious choice since it was known to be home of Al Qaeda. But Afghanistan alone was not going to make the desired statement in the Arab world. Saudi Arabia makes the pretext of being our ally, so they were out. Libya had behaved herself for the past decade. Syria would have been a good choice, but there wasn't enough to justify going in there. Iran was the known major sponsor of terrorism and would have been a great choice, but again not quite enough justification at the time.

The obvious choice was Iraq, whose violations of the U.N. resolutions alone gave us authorization to use military action. The Bush administration's only fault with this was their over reliance on WMDs. They should have presented it as a complete package:
1) Violation of UN resolutions
2) Aiding and sponsoring terrorism (yes they did libtards)
3) Attempted Genocide of a population (Clinton went into Bosnia and Croatia for this alone)
4) Threat to the United States
5) Threat to its own neighbors
6) WMDs

And once the bullets started flying we should have fought the war to win like complete ruthless b@$t@rd$. Instead, our own left wing put up every roadblock they could to hamper our progress.

We should have gone through Iraq like Sherman through Atlanta. NOT (as the dimwitcrats would have us) like Laura Ingall through a field of dandelions.

Bush Bashing
I truly believe that the shoe throwing incident in Iraq was a direct result of the lies and disrespect shown President Bush by our own the liberal news media, liberal citizens on posts like this, and the Democrat Party.

We have published and published more lies and disrespectful articles, blogs and heard the speeches and sound bites for 8 long years. Do you think the world was not reading and listening as well?

Disrespect for President Bush is disrespect for the USA. I hope you people are proud of yourselves.

As far as BHO’s middle name I find it very funny he will now embrace it but cried like a baby when it was used during the campaign. What a wuss you (Not me) have elected.

From My Blog
Obama
Obama
They call his name: Obama

Obama's got a middle name
Hussein's his amplifier
Hussein may just inspire fear
And they call on him: Obama

Obama throws his weight around
And runs from Blago's lyin'
Obama shakes Chicago's hounds
Above the fray he's flyin'

Obama
Obama
They call his name: Obama

Before we knew Obama's name
A gal both pale and shinin'
Thought she'd be next, and not Hussein
But the One caused her sidelinin'

But then one day they left that girl
They left her far behind him
And now we're lost, so doggone lost
No Clinton can outshine him

Obama
Obama
They call his name Obama

When he was just a candidate
No name would work for Barry
To say Hussein somehow was wrong
Didn't want the fate of Kerry

And now we have this President
And no one seems to worry
That Muslim roots might represent
A need to-be from Missouri

Obama

They call his name Obama

Obama
Obama!
Or Hussein, is he.

This is a lie many were outraged and yes many especially Iraqis, Palistinians and Iranians were very pleased. BUT, and here is what you miss completely, the VAST majority of the world and the US sided with us.

"... The arab world only understands force..."

How long have you lived and traveled in the Arab world? How many of their homes have you visited?

"...But since these terrorist are stateless cowards, the question became "who to hit?"."

Again you are very wrong Al Q was irrevocably tied to the government of Afghanistan led by the Taliban

"...Afghanistan was the obvious choice since it was known to be home of Al Qaeda. But Afghanistan alone was not going to make the desired statement in the Arab world..."

Really????? Why not? Bush the torturer promised to rebuild all of Afghanistan and make it a showcase for the entire world with a program that would dwarf the Marshall Plan. The vast majority of the world's country pledged to support the effort. Sigh, the road not taken...Bush might even have had a chance to be one of the greatest presidents rather than the worst.

Just Like An Old Shoe
The Egyptian Reporter who threw the shoes could just as well have been an American Reporter with President Bush. Many of them have no love for him and certainly no respect. That is the shame of it.

I wonder if the fawning voters are not getting a little nervous that their 'messiah' is seeming to be leaning towards the Muslim people. He plainly said in his book,he would take their side if the winds turned bad.

Let's all face it. You bought a 'Pig In A Poke' and pigs are just naturally dirty animals. They love the mud and HE definitely came straight out of a mudhole called CHICAGO. He cannot get the dirt off, even if he tried. (Which he hasn't)

The moment he says...
..."I Barack, Hussein Obama.." millions of voices in the Islamic world will break into loud cheers of ululation.

BTW, let's organize our own conservative protest at the inauguration... if thousands of us wave our shoes in the air when Barry O goes by, he should get the point.

Re: Middle Names??
Well, you can look at this two ways, first if you pronouce the Huss-ien, it means camel herder! And if you pronouce it Hus-sien the names means one who deals questionable. So, let the cards fall where they may!

Of the countless inane comments Hal has written - this one has to go down into the Townhall "Hall of Shame".

Just where was Hal's "patriotism" when the NY Times was publishing information on methods used to identify terrorists?

Or the non-stop onslaught of liberals playing politics on Iraq?

Does "the war is lost" quote by Harry Reid ring a bell, Hal?

Incredible...

Forget his middle name
Any truth to the rumor that at 17 he changed his name to Barak, which means "sword" in Arabic?

Barack Obama...
...now thinks it is okay to use his middle name, yet, during the campaign, he and the Democrats accused anybody who used his middle name when referring to him as racists. I'm sure his fellow Moslims in the Middle East, who hate this country, will be pleased. They believe he is one of their own and he apparently now wants to prove it.

"Like it or not...
...the election of Barak Obama to the presidency of the United States has done an immense amount to restore American prestige in the world. Not since the destruction of the Twin Towers has there been dancing in the streets anywhere on the planet to celebrate events in America. It is to be hoped, of course, that it is not the same people doing the dancing."

Yeah Yeah Yeah Hal D.
We already know your american hating views. The Red Horde will be across the border and marching us off to concentration camps before you'd consider sticking up for your country. And even then you'd probably be complicit with the enemy.

NOPE they are hyphenated names
fChinese-American, irish-American, afro-American, Polish-American etc......
There are so few proud to be just AMERICAN any more. I am simply AMERICAN. And, I am DAMN PROUD of it in spite of those of you who fault America for everything wrong in the world.

While I agree with most of your post. I must take exception to this one quote:

"Blame Bush for everything, deny any dhimmicrat culpability - you're only fooling yourselves."

Unfortunately many Voters got their information from MTV, Comedy Central, and the Lamestream Media instead of independent research. The lie, spread wide enough, repeated often enough, becomes reality for those not inclined to find out for themselves.

"My strategy? Stock up on rice, beans and bullets"

Ditto's

UncleB, here's why
"There are so few proud to be just AMERICAN any more."

Count me among them. For the first time in my life, I am embarrassed to be an American.

We have brave men in the field, fighting and dying on our behalf, and 64 million of us and 28 states spit on their sacrifice by voting to elect the Kenyan Candidate.

Lost a loved one or lost a limb in the war? Barack Hussein Obama will see to it that that was for NOTHING. But don't worry: when he's done, the God-cursed Mohammedans will love "us".

And George in NY, for Obama to be an American name, it would help if he were to act as an American and not as a "citizen of the world". Whatever McCain's other myriad faults, we knew where his first loyalty lies.

For those of you who would answer that I'm free to leave, know that I am keen to. And I'd cheerfully take my state with me. I and others down here have had it with having constantly to assuage the concerns of weak Liberal Yankees. We're sick of your lies. We're sick of your corruption. We're sick of you. And we are ashamed to be your countrymen.

His Royal Ego.....
Barry Soetoro barely qualifies as an American, given his sleazy family background (not to mention his lack of releasing his true, long-form birth certificate - a photo copy of the short-form doesn't cut it).

He has lived under a few different names, in and outside of the country and obviously, proudly declares himself a "citizen of the world" as opposed to simply being an American citizen. His Royal Ego, Barry The Great, is too urbane for such primitive things as simply being an American citizen.

As I've said before, I predict we'll see a big backlash against His "O"-liness. Ego-boy is in for a rude awakening down the road, due to his leftist ideology - his views are simply far to the left of most Americans.

He's just a lawyer, a left-wing lawyer who wants to accumulate power for the government. he wants to use government to equalize outcomes. Let the backlash begin.....

Hold on, I've lived in the North and the South. Most of the North are immigrants, conservative and good people. We aren't all liberal snob loosers. question
What kind of name is Rush Hudson. Rush is what I do when I'm late. Hudson is either a river in blue New York or an old car.

Hussein is a muslim name.

No other way around it.

Correction for ME-chuck @ 09:30
The word "Barak" is actually Hebrew (not Arabic) and means "lightning". The Arabic word for sword is "zulfiqar" (which was the derivation of the group "al Zulfiqar" founded by Z.A. Bhutto's sons, only coincidentally also the name of the judicially-murdered Pakistani leader).

A lot of Arabic names are borrowed/modified from Hebrew (paren'ed equivalents/English); in no particular order of commonness:
(*) Daoud (David)
(*) Musa (Moshe)
(*) Haroun (Aaron)
(*) Imran (Amram)
(*) Suleiman (Solomon)
(*) Wahab (Ahab***)
(*) Ibrahim (Abraham)
(*) Ishaq (Yitzhak/Isaac)
(*) Yahya (Yehohanan/John)
(*) Ayub (Job)
(*) Murtaza (Mordechai?)

***in Hebrew/English, the name Ahab is rare; outside of Bible, I've never seen it except in Melville's "Moby Dick".

George
"He does not. He is (soon to be) the President of the United States. Ergo, he has an American name."

You would fail Philosophy 101 with that stupidity.

One may argue whether or not Senator Obama is an American, but there is no argument as to the ethnicity of his name. It is a Muslim name, period.

Just as I am an American, yet have a Spanish maiden name....one derived from being a Moor killer, as a matter of fact.

Charles Martel

Not all of us North of the Mason Dixon line are weak knee liberal democrats. In fact in my state of Pennsylvania, if it wasn't for the unions and 95 percenters of Philly and Pittsburgh, this state would lean solidly right. (This is the point where Hal D. jumps in with some inane made up statistic).

When Texas is ready to lead the seccession of the right minded states, like Davy crocket to the Alamo, I'll be there. And I'll bring my own ammo.

Joycey, with regrets
I am often told that of northern states, but I've been waiting all my life for it to manifest itself. "Conservative northerners" are like "moderate Mohammedans": neither are ever heard from.

There is no means for expelling states, only for withdrawing one's own state.

I wish you the best of luck in Ohio -- you'll need it -- but we want out.

Henry Hudson: the English explorer who mapped, navigated, and explored most of New York. He made it possible for colonies to be started in that area.

Not sure what you are implying with your question, but 2 minutes research pulled that up. If you are trying to be funny I suggest coming up with a slam that has more zing.

You want to know WHY we find

ourselves in the current situation. Take a look at education.

The government has created a monopoly on education in America and is deliberately dumbing down American citizens. Until competition is added to the American educational system, nothing will change.

Try speaking to most people under 40 and you will find they have a very limited use of reason and make most decisions based on their feelings.

The government has violated the first amendment prohibition on a government establishment of religion, i.e. the government schools. The government has also violated other provisions of the constitution and is now allowing a foreign born person (who may not even now be a citizen of the U.S.A.) become president.

Unless the government starts to support all parents, who have the first responsibility, in educating their children without regard to the doctrines being taught and without regard to who is doing the teaching, America will move inevitably toward mediocrity.

Restore competition in education and things will begin to improve, until than there is nothing much we can do as a people. We can still protect our own children, but that is about it.

SPOT ON ARTICLE!
Remember when the media couldn't contain itself from using William "Jefferson" Clinton's middle name, like this somehow would impart a magical connection with a patriot?

Then the "objective" MSM "banned" the middle name of Barack Hussein Obama, because of the "negative" implications.

Now, BO will use it much like a Chicago street thug to be "in your face!" and the MSM will "santify" its use.

Flip flop, flip flop, to the beat of Dhimmicrat drums ad nauseum and ad absurdum.

Got to go and put a cold cloth on my forehead.

for Tom, Hal D, and
all you other clueless libs

Never in my life will I understand how the admitted anti-war advocates insist on commenting on things they know NOTHING of... in this case, war.

Regardless of ANY of the above, deny me this:

Al Quaida and other (maybe) unrelated factions are spending their time, effort, and resources fighting our trained, armed, VOLUNTEER military on their OWN soil (the Holy Land which is Iraq) and NOT over here, slaughtering our unarmed (thanks yet again, liberals) untrained, sheep-like populace over here in America

Al Quaida *is* basically stateless - its members come from all over the Middle East, from many different countries. They had major TIES to Afghanistan and the Taliban, but that is NOT the only country they were in. Anyone who thinks "Again you are very wrong Al Q was irrevocably tied to the government of Afghanistan led by the Taliban" and thinks they don't have operations all over the world, is sadly mistaken.

Saddam Hussein may or may not have had ties to Al Q - but he did support terrorism - well known fact he paid the families of Israeli suicide bombers.

Since we were the ones who propped up Saddam to begin with, he was our responsibility to take out, from a moral perspective

And lastly, I know this is hard for you anti-war nuts to understand, but from a military perspective, what BETTER way to make the dogs from Al-Q come out of hiding where we can shoot them, then to invade land they consider Holy?

Anyone who says Iraq was a mistake is WRONG, period.

one more thing
And for Hal, who disagreed with Corndog's statement, "The arab world only understands force and to not retaliate would have been a sign of weakness in their eyes " - sorry, but you are wrong. YOU have no clue what the culture is like over there if you think that, I believe most all historians as well as military strategists and foreign policy experts - anyone whose job it is to know cultures - will back that statement - speaking of culture here obviously, not every single person over there.

Tom
It's obvious that your hatred of our country (along with your apparent Anti-Semitism) is such that you can't seem to understand a few truths. To wit...

1) Saddam might not have ordered the attacks on 9-11, but he supported terrorism by paying the families of suicide bombers in Palestine.

2) Saddam might not have had stockpiles of WMD, but he clearly had yellowcake with the intent of building a nuclear bomb at the first opportunity, and proved in the Iran-Iraq War that he had no qualms about using poison gas on his own people.

3) The bodies that were found in the mass graves in Iraq didn't die of old age.

4) Whether al-Quaeda went into Iraq before or after the invasion (and it is completely incredible to believe that Saddam didn't have terrorist cells in his country before the war), the fact remains that we have not been attacked on our soil since 9/11/01. Not even the most optimistic forecasters could have said that then.

5) Saddam had violated 17 U.N. resolutions that he agreed to in order to end the previous Gulf War. Somebody had to get the organization to do its job, if it weren't going to be as impotent and irrelevant as the League of Nations.

6) Instead of going it alone, the U.S. led a coalition of 22 nations, while France and Russia prefered to continue taking bribes to stay away.

I can continue, but we don't have all day. The fact is that we are much more secure at the end of the current administration than we were at the beginning, because the previous office-holder was too busy suborning perjury to concern himself with foreign policy. You have what you want now, and we all will pay the penalty over the next four years unless the GOP stands up for itself and opposes every attempt to undo the success that our troops have sacrificed their lives for.

Reboot to "What" exactly?
So, The Messiah, Barack Hussein Obama (safe now, huh?) wants to "reboot' or relationship with Muslims. Reboot to where in time, exactly? To before the need for the Crusades, to before the pirates Thomas Jefferson had to deal with, to before 9/11?? You have to have a default to reboot to, no? This is just more "Blame America" crap we've been hearing from Democruds for the last zillion years. It HAS to be our fault, since Muslims are so peace loving, right? If we just talk with them, all will be forgiven. Such BS is what gets nations and their citizens attacked, taken hostage, beheaded and otherwise eliminated.
It reminds me of the classic scene in "The Thing" (the original) when the one idealist scientist tries to "talk" with the Thing to show we mean no harm. The Thing does what it was born to do, it tries to kill the scientist, and everyone else in the building. Lesson learned...or forgotten?

Lolo 1
Did I miss the dancing in the streets?

How dumb is it possible to be, do you even know an obvious staged photo-op when you see one? Speaking of dancing in the streets, did you you see yesterdays street dances in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities where Bush was being burned in effigy along with American flags? Those "dances" were in support of a journalist - not a terrorist - who threw two shoes at Bush.

As for rep-war Iraq, there were no terrorists there, anyone who reads anything outside of TH knows that Hussein executed terrorists because they were a threat to his power.

Perhaps you should get out of the cold in MN, unfreeze your brain, and go and live in the ME for a few years like I did. Then you would know about staged photo-ops and what is behind them. I guess getting your body broken for throwing a shoe is the conservative ideal of freedom, you can have it.

Three of the journalists who witnessed that "dance" said that it was staged. But, to know that, you have to get information from other places besides TH, which means often - gasp!- reading a book.

As for MN, I don't live there, so maybe you shouldn't be so quick to believe everything you read on TH.

Lolo
The reports are the guy that threw the shoes got a broken arm and some cracked ribs from being tackled. Had he done it when Saddam Hussein was in power, he would’ve gotten hand grenades stuck in as many body openings as possible and the pins pulled.

John, dear boy/madam/whatever.
I do not recall soliciting comments from the homosexual section of the liberal peanut gallery. If you feel it necessary to address me, please try to formulate a logical and coherent reply to the contents of my post, although perhaps I expect too much when it comes to MN, the land of Al Franken.

This from AP:

"Muntadhar al-Zeidi was turned over by the prime minister's security guards to face further investigation by the military command in charge of enforcing security in Baghdad, the official told The Associated Press.

Al-Zeidi was initially taken into custody by Iraqi security and interrogated about whether anybody had paid him to throw his shoes at Mr Bush during a news conference on Sunday in Baghdad."

Notice, he was in IRAQI custody, not American custody.

Our personnel never harmed him.

Stretching NYC George's "logic", then EVERY name becomes "American"--even when the holder has never seen American, nor even knows about this country. Great Job Limbaugh!
Always good to hear from you.
From B. Hussein's own words, or so we are to believe...

"my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

That's just sick. Especially considering the facts on the ground.

I also agree that the middle name he considers so... healing to those who (apparently) may not be healed is like some kind of n-word that they seem so proud of untill any but their own use it...

and many others. Off to lunch in a few minutes, until I return:

There were 4 men on a plane, an Englishman, a Frenchman, a Muslim and an American. The pilot dies of a hear attack and none of know how to fly a plane. To their dismay, they find that there are only 3 parachutes on the plane. The Englishman grabs a parachute, puts it on, says “God save the Queen!” and jumps. The Frenchman grabs a parachute, put it on, says “Viva La France!” and jumps out the doors. The American grabs The Muslim and throws him out the door. The American then puts on a parachute and jumps out the door. He free falls until he is nose to nose with the Muslim. He then says to The Muslim, “REMEMBER 09/11!” and pulls the cord. LMAO! HIC!

God save us!
"It's now CLIMATE CHANGE....

It's all about CHANGE.....

Say it with me....CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!"

Lord how I am sick of that word 'change'....

Yo Rastas! That's a
new one. The retired almost RIFFED ex AF LTC was cashiered out of the military!! No wonder he's so ornery. He's gonna be more than ornery when Blegogate heats up. JJ junior (candidate #5) is madly backstroking away from the pending disaster and daddy has hired an attorney. When Blego starts "singing" and implicates those involved and they start "singing" no telling where this will end up. Probably President Bush will be blamed. This will be the first time in the history of our Republic that the POTUS elect has started to compile a pardon (keep silent) list before being inaugurated.
Also there is something fishy about the so-called birth certificate showing up on the Internet. It's identified as a "Certification of Live Birth". A real birth certificate is identified as a "Certificate of Live Birth" and is embossed with the State Seal. Hmmmmm.
Someday an enterprising young computer geek will hack into the State of Hawaii's Health Department's records and the truth will be known. Will POTUS elect be the first Usurper-in-Chief?

BmanIII and Georgetwin
Bman: don't get smart with me...you know full well what I am talking about.

GT: Bet money there is more conservatives in this state than yours! Law of averages is on my side since we are by far the most populus. If you think there are no liberals in your state you are deluded.

To both of you...California is a gold mine, rather than boot it out of the country I say boot out the liberals and make money! God knows they are blowing it big time in that area.

So what are you both doing to spread conservatism around the country? Hmmm????

John
Thanks for reading my posts and glad you like them. I do try to please. The messiah's middle name is the least thing about him that worries me.Although,I would like it better if it was an American name.

Maybe Billy Bob or Bobby Joe or something that does not sound MUSLIM. I am not into burka's or jibjabs or any of the other Middle Eastern garb.It just does not flatter me. Dang it.

I have read your posts, also, and see that you are one of the disciples of the 'messiah'. He can do no wrong in your eyes. You can have him. I want no part of him or the Clinton / Obama Administration.

If it wasn't so darned expensive to live there, I might have stayed after my time in the Army was up.

Just for Bman......

It was in response to this: "We need to kick some unwanted states out of the Union instead. Take sunny California for instance. Please."

Lolo
I must be off now.

You have a Rosie afternoon and a Helen Thomas night.

;O)

Rowly
Amen to your post. Those demonic-crats are ruthless. They have no morals and are just here for the fame and to see themselves on TV. Whipee.......desparate boys. It sure is comical to see ole Billy and Hillary standing up for the BO man. They dug up more dirt on him than O'Reilly on Fox. Don't ya just love Dennis Miller's comments on the whole political fiasco......funny!! Go Fox News...it gets better with age.

Lolo
OOOOooooohhhhhhhhhh.

That!

oops. Sorry - nothing personal.
Amen to all of their post except for the part about CA. I must have misread it and thought Illinois and Michigan and Mass.

Apology accepted I hope.

I'll check back later tonight.

Have a GREAT Afternoon....

That it is! Home to Clint Eastwood and Doris Day. However, the Central Coast is much better. Less earthquakes, more sun, and great wine and seafood, and much more affordable. Pretty much all of the California coast is gorgeous, but I miss the miles of farmland of home and the mountains, don't forget Yosemite!

LOL and were you not the little guy screaming about Ms. Obama saying the same thing?

"...We have brave men in the field, fighting and dying on our behalf, and 64 million of us and 28 states spit on their sacrifice by voting to elect the Kenyan Candidate..."

You are not only a liar you are dispicable. How dare you say that your filthy philosophy is the only one that doesn't "spit" on their sacrifice. Near as I can tell ignorant talk like that just did

"...For those of you who would answer that I'm free to leave, know that I am keen to. And I'd cheerfully take my state with me. I and others down here have had it with having constantly to assuage the concerns of weak Liberal Yankees..."

Look we have to support you folks go away but sorry the land stays. Since you are not a patriotic American why not move to a country that uses your failed philosophy like Nigeria. LOL yup all those NYC cops and firemen are real weak aren't they? Oh and you folks call our union guys "thugs" can you be a weak thug?

"... We're sick of your lies. We're sick of your corruption. We're sick of you. And we are ashamed to be your countrymen."

You lost and are done but know your words are poetry to my eyes. Try and grow up; learn and rehabilate your self you psuedo tough guys are so tiring

The he gets too afraid to finish...

BO is rubbing our noses in it....
By only now using his middle name so prominently is he able to rub our noses in his questionable meteoric rise, questionable birth place, and associations with twisted, sick people.
He's a carefully groomed creation of the liberals & socialists & Democrats, an empty vessel, valued for his ability to keep a fairly emotionless facial expression under all circumstances (meaning he can dissemble well); to walk cool whilst he bops down plane stairs with a limp wrist & cell phone to his ear; and chews gum like a cow during all.

Hussein, Hussein, Hussein....let's see how much he's loved in a year's time. Right now the MSM is still giving him so much slack, it's pathetic.

Never in my life will I understand how the admitted anti-war advocates insist on commenting on things they know NOTHING of... in this case, war.

Regardless of ANY of the above, deny me this:

“Al Quaida and other (maybe) unrelated factions are spending their time, effort, and resources fighting our trained, armed, VOLUNTEER military on their OWN soil (the Holy Land which is Iraq) and NOT over here, slaughtering our unarmed (thanks yet again, liberals) untrained, sheep-like populace over here in America”

LOL denied. Al Q is using Iraq as a training ground as is Iran. The Holy Land is not Iraq and under Saddam Iraq was a secular nation. As evidenced here the sheeple predominate in the south but hey maybe that is a cultural thing.

“Al Quaida *is* basically stateless - its members come from all over the Middle East, from many different countries. They had major TIES to Afghanistan and the Taliban, but that is NOT the only country they were in. Anyone who thinks "Again you are very wrong Al Q was irrevocably tied to the government of Afghanistan led by the Taliban" and thinks they don't have operations all over the world, is sadly mistaken.”

Al Q had the vast majority of its resources and people in Afghanistan until we allowed them to escape into Pakistan and then strengthen their criminal operations world wide. We played right into their hands

“...Saddam Hussein may or may not have had ties to Al Q - but he did support terrorism - well known fact he paid the families of Israeli suicide bombers.”

Correction: there is no “may or may not” Saddam had no meaningful ties to Al Q. The US supported terrorists also i.e. IRA bombers in the UK. Israel is an ally not a state

craigctx2
“...Since we were the ones who propped up Saddam to begin with, he was our responsibility to take out, from a moral perspective..”

LOL the question is now? At what cost? The answer to both was not now not worth the price

“...And lastly, I know this is hard for you anti-war nuts to understand, but from a military perspective, what BETTER way to make the dogs from Al-Q come out of hiding where we can shoot them, then to invade land they consider Holy?

Anyone who says Iraq was a mistake is WRONG, period.”

It was wrong; stupid and the great point that incompetently handled. The US was kept at bay “staying the course” for years.

one more thing
“...And for Hal, who disagreed with Corndog's statement, "The arab world only understands force and to not retaliate would have been a sign of weakness in their eyes " - sorry, but you are wrong. YOU have no clue what the culture is like over there if you think that, I believe most all historians as well as military strategists and foreign policy experts - anyone whose job it is to know cultures - will back that statement - speaking of culture here obviously, not every single person over there. “

I do have a clue; I have lived and worked there. Their society is far less violent than our own. Your bravado is amazing and your perceptions are ignorant. Oh I am lots of things but a pacifist I am not

Well, reading Page 3 of the Pigtown (Toronto) Sun can actually be counted as "reading a newspaper" (and I'll stick with the idea that "john" is from morON).

(anyone who's examined the Page 3 of ANY of Canoe Group's "newspapers"--they're really more yellow journals--knows that at least half of that page, sometimes entire page, is a full-length photo of a woman, that day's "Sunshine Girl").

I do like Dennis Miller. An old liberal who came to his senses. I wish I could see Dennis unleashed. He is very smart. Bill just interrupts him too much and talks over him, which is Bill's worst fault.

B. Hussein (just for John,in case he reads my post),must think we are crazy to have elevated him to the top. An undeserving nobody who never did anything but take from others. Now he will take from us. The Clinton / Obama Administration, modern robber-barons.

BTW, Maine Chuck
"Barak" and "Baruch" are not identical names.

Barak was the fearful (he wouldn't go to the battlefield unless Deborah went with him, so he could SEE her praying) Naphthalite leader of Judges 4-5; his name does indeed mean "lightning" in Hebrew as I learned from a 1995 Jerusalem Post article written by "Zev Barak" (Clinton News Network's Wolf Blitzer, Hebraising his name).

Baruch (which you've stated as the root-word for Barack) was scribe/companion to the prophet Jeremiah. It is also, coincidentally, the vernacular name of a Gujarat port city which the British called "Broach".

Hal, with everything you tell us you've done, why didn't 'That One' tap you for VP? The least he could have done was given you an ambassadorship. You've got my vote to be ambassador for the peace loving people Iran. You seem to get on with them so well.

Are you familiar with the old "Commander McBragg" cartoon (where McBragg boasts about lots of feats, and then answers his disbelieving friend's comments with "quite")?

Certainly seems that dumbahue has copied that idea, and retained it in his otherwise perenially-impaired....whatever-passes-for-mind.

"were you not the little guy screaming about Ms. Obama saying the same thing?"

No, of course not: aside from my never having written on that subject, you should recall that it was her first time to be *proud* of her country. It is mine for embarrassment.

"How dare you say that your filthy philosophy is the only one that doesn't 'spit' on their sacrifice?"

My comment had nothing to do with philosophy: you elected the candidate who was openly committed to losing the war. His TV ads here in Texas back before our primary opened with these very words: "we can end this war." Of course you can, Barry, by voluntarily losing it.

"sorry the land stays"

You are evidently unaware of the Texas Annexation Treaty of 1845, which still has the force of law (reaffirmed before the SCOTUS as recently as the 1960s): if we want to leave, we can freely do so, and you have no choice but to permit it.

"your words are poetry to my eyes"

Yes, you revel in lies, corruption, and weakness. We all already know that. You elected the lying, corrupt, and weak candidate, and you're strangely proud of that.

And we remain ashamed that you and the Kenyan purport to be our countrymen.

Bush & WMD
And the mainstream media, not the Democrat party, will allow the word to be spread about the 550 metric tons of yellow cake uranium that were found, and today are being used to fuel nuclear power plants in Canada. For the media to cover this, it would make them the liars they are about the WMD. They blame Bush for the war "we didn't find any WMD". But we did, Joe Wilson's yellow cake.

But, as I've said before, the Democrat party would destroy the whole country to regain power.

"...My comment had nothing to do with philosophy: you elected the candidate who was openly committed to losing the war..."

Again this is a lie. Leaving our military rotting in the desert is not victory nor is allowing our real enemy Al Q to can a foothold in nuclear Pakistan

"... His TV ads here in Texas back before our primary opened with these very words: "we can end this war." Of course you can, Barry, by voluntarily losing it..."

and if you meant to imply leaving would dishonor our dead and wounded military you are entirely wrong. All a military guy fights for is what is best for the nation. Be patient, Blago will sing like a canary to stay out of The Sodomy Sheraton. All WILL be revealed.

For Georgetwin @ 15:41
I have doubts it will get that far, since the prosecutor on the case is (currently) Fitzgerald, who doesn't exactly have a stellar record (remember Plame Case, where he prosecuted the WRONG man for a non-crime?). If bh0 fires Fitz and replaces him with a toady, then the case will be even worse than Canada's Lyin-Bryan/Airbus-kickbacks case (where the treasonous erstwhile PM was acquitted of a receiving kickbacks due to RCMP's botching of the investigation).

And how would you propose using them?

I actually want to hear your input.

Why noy his third name?
FYI... Barach Hussien Muhammad Obama is his complete name.

As far as I'm concened it does not matter what he calls himself he is not going to defend our Country he is going to give it away to the highest bidder. He will not keep his oath of office. He is a thief. He stole this election.
From the American people.

He will not rise above his narcissitic beliefs and behavior.
He is a self serving criminal. From the Southside of Chicago.

Who in his family tree ever served the white people in this country as a slave?
Yet all the blacks seem to think because of his color he will identify with them. Never thinking about he could be called American-African.

Not stupid enough to think that any or ever a President cared all that much for me. But they did care for our Country. And all it's decent citizenship. Obama does not.

Most were patriotic, Obama is not. Obama is Pc I am not.

Come 1-20-09 will we be charged with a hate crime if we speak out against him?

Afghanistan was a classic example of when to use it. The first Iraq war and the disintegration of Yugoslavia are all valid examples. War is a failure of diplomacy by other means.
