Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

In the aftermath of the 2008 Republican electoral bloodbath, many are discussing what direction the party should take to recapture its vitality and viability. Liberals -- as if they have the best interests of the GOP at heart -- and so-called elitist, Northeastern Republicans seem to agree the party should tack center. I disagree.

Traditional conservatism and its advocates invariably get bad raps. They're painted as uncompromising, uncompassionate extremists who won't adjust to the realities of the 21st century.

But those familiar with modern history understand that these intramural debates have been going on for decades. I remember my father complaining about Rockefeller Republicans in the early '60s, so the schism had to have begun much earlier than that.

From what I can gather, the David Brooks and David Frum wing of the conservative movement wants conservatism to grow, sort of like liberals want the Constitution to be a "living document." Big government -- at least, an active, energetic government -- is here to stay, and we better get on board. Our debate with liberals must be one of minor degree rather than kind. We should accept, rather than resist or attempt to roll back, the leviathan and instead address how best to direct it, lest we relegate ourselves to political irrelevance.

We traditionalists should acknowledge that in one sense, the Davids have a point. After all, it was no less a traditionalist than Mark Steyn, if I may categorize him as such, who recently lamented that "settled democratic societies rarely vote to 'go left.' Yet oddly enough that's where they've all gone."

I think Steyn is merely expressing the paradox that democratic societies are difficult to sustain in the spirit of the oft-stated axiom -- attributed to a half-dozen people -- that a "democracy" would last until people figured out they could vote themselves money from the public treasury. Benjamin Franklin offered a similar admonition when a woman asked him to describe the form of government the Framers had just crafted: "A republic, madam, if you can keep it."

This, I think, gets to the very heart of the rub between the traditionalists and the Davids. The Framers designed a scheme of limited government because they believed that such was the best -- or the least worst -- avenue to maximizing individual liberty. They believed that though man has a yearning to be free, his fallen human condition militates against freedom for society as a whole, absent mechanisms in place to check the natural and clearly established historical tendency of man toward absolutism.

Traditionalists see themselves as guardians of our unique Constitution, which secures liberty as a byproduct of pitting levels and branches of government against one another.

They believe that unless we rededicate ourselves, intellectually and emotionally, to our founding ideal of individual liberty -- as opposed to succumbing to the insidious, intoxicating, cowardly promise of government-provided security at all levels of our existence -- we can kiss liberty -- and the United States of America as we have known it -- goodbye.

Part of the problem is that we have enjoyed such unparalleled freedoms and prosperity that we have been lulled into the false notion that they will continue in perpetuity, even as we betray, to ever-greater extremes, our founding principles. But traditionalists understand that there is a tipping point beyond which this incessant socialist piggybacking on our capitalistic economic system and these ever-deepening encroachments on our scheme of government (for example, through judicial activism) will finally bring us to our knees.

Traditionalists don't oppose this or that "high-minded" plan aimed at delivering security (e.g., health care) or prosperity (e.g., direct transfer payments from producers to nonproducers) because they don't want more people to be prosperous but because they do and because they cherish freedom. We know that socialism never works and always results in less prosperity, on top of its obvious freedom-stripping inevitabilities.

The nontraditionalists don't seem to share our recognition of the ephemeral nature of liberty -- as if all of human history weren't enough proof. They don't appreciate that by joining liberals intellectually on their turf by simply quibbling over what percentage of abject socialism we'll permit, we are ultimately signing our own national death warrant.

As quaint as it sounds, someone has to advocate a return to first principles. We don't have to concede that America cannot reverse its path toward European socialism. But we will have conceded if we merely try to outdo liberals on their terrain by being "compassionate conservatives."

Our charge is to make the case for liberty and that traditionalism is inherently compassionate. If we don't have the courage to confront the seductive promises of socialism and demonization by the politically correct and pseudo-compassionate, we will surely fail in our duty to bequeath the blessings of liberty to our posterity.

Not That is Real
"Compassionate Conservatism."
You have expressed well that we care but will not compromise to the detriment of all.
If only liberals would admit they are willing to ruin all rather than have any hold an advantage.

Perfect concise analysis
in spite of what Ranger29 observes, and I thank you, David Limbaugh for laying it out so clearly for all to read.

Ranger29
I am new to Townhall, (only a few nights of reading) and I am greatly enjoying the verbal combat.

I have to admit that I am also fairly new to the debate about how much government is good government.

I apologize if this is out of place, but here goes anyway. Do you consider yourself a socialist? I only ask because I have seen on other threads, people openly saying that they agree with socialism.

I don't mean my question to be insulting, it just seems that people who are constantly calling for more government seem to believe more in the ability of same. I mean that they are usually either government employees or they are contractors to government or are significant other's of someone who is.

I know this will never happen and I guess rightfully so. But it seems that one should have to state honestly if they have a direct financial connection to any form of government spending. I usually get into this with teachers who are constantly demanding higher pay and never saw a tax they didn't like.

I make more money than the typical government worker (that I know) but I work a lot harder and work more hours. I also have a wider field of general knowledge, though not expertise in any one field, as a teacher may have. I feel that my willingness to work long self imposed hours and risk my own money should count for something?

Again, I'm new to this so take it easy on me. You guys can be rather snippy when you want to be.

Bob, since you're new here,
With credit to MyOpine who made up this list, this should help you understand "Ranger29" whom we call "Wobbie," among other things, because he's a SERIAL LIAR, and a MORON.

Wobbie tells us he is a Captain in the U.S. Navy, an active duty combat pilot flying daily patrols over Iraq,

And he does not know Ordinance Color Codes.
And he can't describe a Division Gunnery Efficiency Pennant.
And he can't describe a Division Engineering Efficiency Pennant.
And he can't tell you what a BlackBaller is.
And he can't tell you what it signals when a ship hoists a single red dovetail pennant.
And he can't tell you the ransom paid by a Carrier for returning a downed pilot.
And he claims to be one of the men who held the "Halp us Jon Cary" sign.
And he claims to be a Border Patrol pilot.
And he claims to be an Airline Captain.
And he claims to be a Navy test pilot.
And he claims to be a civilian test pilot.
And he claims to be an FAA Flight Examiner.
And he claims to be a Republican and also a delegate to the Democrat convention.
And he claims to be a College Professor making psychiatric evaluations of our posts here at TH.
And wally discovered Wobbie does not know how to fly an airplane.
And he claims to be an advisor to our Admirals.
And he claims to be a Mid East Consultant.
And he claims to have been a Vice Cop.
And he claims to have attended the U.S. Marshal's course.
And he claims to have graduated the FBI Acadamy.
And he claims The U.S. Congress passed a Bill just so he could be both a Navy Officer & a "Peace Officer".
And he claims the Russians were so impressed they let him take their latest military craft for a spin at an Air Show.
And I can't get Wobbie to tell me if that Russian airplane has a slot for quarters like the plane he flies in front of Wal*Mart.

Another thing you should know, Bob
Ranger29/Wobbie has offended so many people on this site so often with his VERY PERSONAL ATTACKS on those who disagree with him, not to mention his condescending, arrogant, overbearing, and smug attitude that he's always right; "I always win," that he has been REPEATEDLY BANNED AND BLOCKED from access to Townhall, but keeps creating new accounts to get back in.

To counter that, his posts are deleted by the moderators first thing every morning(usually by 8:00 AM, EST), except on weekends when the mmoderators aren't working. His weekend posts are deleted first thing every Monday.

Ranger
Your kind of thinking is the cause of all the economic malaise in the country today. Had we known what the "compassionate" meant in Bush's "compassionate conservatism", maybe we would have had a real conservative as our nominee 8 years ago and been able to avoid all these problems. The problem is government, the size and reach of it. Both Obama and McCain were committed to more of the same (even though they both called it "Change"). Therefore our country is in for rough times until a "Reagan type" conservative can be put back in the Presidency. People have to see to believe though because they mostly have been indoctrinated in the public school system.

Individual liberty!
Individual liberty or collective socialist slavery! Mmmm what do I choose?

It’s beyond my ability to even understand how liberals think, how they can even consider going down the low left road which history has shown time and again never reaches Utopia.
Utopia can and will only be reached by people who gather at the end of their individual journeys of self knowledge, not through mass-mindedness and the mob mentality.
Stupid people don’t want utopia they just want and want, won’t someone take care of me
The left in this country are like an excited dog trying to pull it’s human master too the utopia of the dog park, sooner or later the right thinking people of this Nation are going to jerk the leash and take control.
Life is a double edged sword; lib/Marxists in this country should remember that.
Abe Lincoln
This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their Constitutional right of amending it, or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it.

You can harp 'right', 'left" etc as much as u can. no party will survive if it does not adapt. 2/3of the young people voted for Obama. Why did they accept his principles and rejected whatever GOP was offering? Why did the educated accept Obama much more than GOP/ Why did the rich accept them more than GOP? why did the poor, middle class accept them? Why did Latinos? Why did suburbanites?
If GOP does not change, and come out of the grips of people like Rush limbaiugh, Dobbins, Perkins , Hagee etc , there is no way they can recover. It will remain aparty stuck in the appalachian region and age!

President-elect Obama and his allies are preparing to implement his liberal, post-American agenda. What Obama and the Pelosi-Reid Congress have in store has the potential to rapidly move America to the socialist left. Join the Patriotic, Resilient, Conservative RESISTANCE.

Excellent Article...
I always enjoy your thoughts David, they are spot on. Being a member of the Law Enforcement community I am also terrified when thinking about what the status of the Supreme Court will be after the next 4 years. I am also terrified regarding the US attorney and Appelate Court Judges who will be put in place by this new administration. I firmly believe in the rule of law and our rights guaranteed under the Constitution, however Leftist Jurists legislating from the bench are quite frankly...scary!

"2/3 of the young people voted for Obama."

I'll answer your question with a quote from Churchill.

"Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains."

These college kids are looking for more free handouts, like they've been getting from mommy and daddy their whole lives.

Mommy and Daddy foot the bill for their political indoctrination in Ayer's type colleges, why not continue the gravytrain by voting for he who promises more.

Marine's Dad
WELL DONE!

Nice list of the nitwit.

Dear Lib-Children
Just a short note.

Conservatism WAS NOT ON THE MENU in this election. McShamnesty was a joke put up by RINOs to lose this election. The ONLY reason it was so close was the energetic Sarah palin, who speaks common sense to the people. You'll see more of her in 2012 when her and Jindal remove the tainted one from the White House.

ALSO!

A SCORCHER post on the ANTI LIBERAL ZONE! Be the first on your block to read it and comment on it!

No conservatives
What does it say that this moring's paper shows President-elect Obama sitting with John McCain and talking about how they will work together. Answer, the Republican party did not offer a 'choice' to the voters. You can't out-McDonalds McDonalds and you can't out entitle democrats.

No one in the election talked about freedom and responsibility. About the need to curtail the role of government. No one talked about why we have troops scattered all over H**** and half of Georgia, much to our detriment or why we can't afford social security, or why we can't find the money to build new infrastructure. No it was all about giving away $ and policing the world.

David
"...Traditional conservatism and its advocates invariably get bad raps. They're painted as uncompromising, uncompassionate extremists who won't adjust to the realities of the 21st century...."

So wrong, David very wrong. Traditional conservatism is not what you, your brother and all their ilk have been selling. What you have been selling is fundamentalist conservatism which is a viral variant of real conservatism. Bush the torturer is exactly what we get following your tainted philosophy - incompetence, failure, economic oligopoly and real harm to the nation. The bottomline: we ate our seed corn and are now in a heck of a mess

Traditional message, New messengers.
While Republicans were losing in Indiana, North Carolina and Virginia, conservative issues were winning in California of all places.

The problem is hypocritical, porked up Republicans not conservatism.

The GOP has done a terrible job at conveying a conservative message. We need more Tony Snows and Ronald Reagans.

We need to articulate our message and be true to our core principles. When we are liberal lite and try to outspend libs, voters will vote for libs.

With all the accumalated baggage and mumbling, we almost won this election! Gov. Sarah Palin energized the base and we were on our way until the financial downturn.

Now we need to:

Elect Mike Steele as head of the RNC.

Listen much more to Cong. Pence.

Stop helping libs steal our tax dollars.

Get Gov. Haley Barbour and Gov. Rick Perry to re-energize the GOP in the south.

Get Lynn Cheney to run for Gov. of Wyoming and energize the GOP in the rockies.

Get Mayor Rudy Giuliani to run for Gov. of NY and energize the area with Sen. Sununu and stop harping on Sens. Snowe and Collins.

Get Huckabee and Romney to stop spitting at each other on the school yard and get back into class.

Get jealous GOP feminists to leave Gov. Sarah Palin alone.

Realize that the basic conservative message is gold. We just need some silver throated messengers.

LOL my silly little middle manager and government employee listen you are NOT a Churchillian conservative - you are a fundamentalist conservative and therefore a failure. You don't build; you consume and confuse. Your ideal country is one like Nigeria; thank you but we don't care to go that way

Walter
As a member of the Democratic Party I certainly hope the republican Party follows your plan

GunnyG, Just to be fair to MyOpine
Although I love the list, and that's why I used it, I DID NOT make it up. MyOpine did.
I just pasted it in here to alert Bob, the new guy, to the dangers of thinking that Wobbie the Village Idiot© was worth trying to engage in a civil conversation and/or debate.

But thanks anyhow for the props.

Keeping the Republic
Well, we can all run around with our hair on fire or we can take a sobering assessment of where this republic has come to. Remember also that Franklin and many other Founding Father illuminati were well aware that God the Creator put in motion this experiment and He can as easily dismantle it. It is up to us to keep it as it was meant to be. Free will, good or bad.

Hal Donahue
"conservatism" is a buzz word that the Democrat/Socialist & most Republican unwashed use to beat "traditional Republicans", Libertarians, Independents & Constitution Party folks. "compassionate conservatism" was the final nail in the Republicans coffin; your "fundamental conservatism" is just another semantic obfuscation. Useless at best. Democrats are Socialists or Marxists by definition, if not by name.
Those of us that are serious about righting the ship of state in the U.S. and limiting Government tyranny before it gets any worse, have refuge only in the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States and The Bill of Rights. More and more Americans have abandoned any hope of changing the Republican culture of "half-*ssing" the core issues of Judicial malfeasance and the ever widening violation of the precepts of Freedom and Liberty inculcated in the Founding Documents of this Nation. So called Democrat politics is almost entirely aimed at dismantling this Nation and it's Freedoms.
"Conservatism", "Republican", & "Democrat" are all superfluous, political buzz words; in truth threats, if you believe in the Constitutionist principals of government, embodied in the Founding Documents of the United States of America. If you understand the Constitutionist Principles that founded this Nation, nothing else signifys. I assure you and everyone else out there - there are significant numbers of us that are carefully observing the continuing degradation of freedoms and the attacks on the U.S. Constitution. Past a certain point - blunt correction will have to be instituted if this Nation is to survive. Freedom and Liberty have always been bought in blood; that has not changed.

Dwain Cleveland

Marine's Dad?
Why didn't you also tell him the "rest" of the story?

Democrats have been successful
in painting republicans as uncaring and bigotted people. In this age of children being raised in humanistic, don't judge, anything goes culture, the message from conservatives needs to be clearer. Freedom of all kinds, free market, freedom of education, freedom to live where we want, to worship as we want, to use the light bulbs and drive the cars we want,to seek the businesses we want and the jobs we want applies to everyone.

What we are increasinly experiencing is a tyranny of the left intruding on our life decisions. We have left leaning folks who are homosexual and insist not just on practicing their lifestyle but settling for nothing but complete acceptance. We have those who believe in global warming and insist we must all pay a high price to "cure" it. We have those who don't want their children to recite the pledge but don't want ours either to say it etc etc etc. Let's repackage our message of freedom for all.

Hal Donahue
Why don't you tell him the rest of the story?
Of course, that will be very difficult to do since there pretty much isn't any rest of the story.

No actually it isn't. It describes perfectly the union of the most conservative elements of conservatism and the most fundamentalist strains of Christianity united to prevent progress and return to a time and history that never existed

"... Democrats are Socialists or Marxists by definition, if not by name..."

See this is simply not true. You want to make a point but start out with a clear lie.

"...Those of us that are serious about righting the ship of state in the U.S. and limiting Government tyranny before it gets any worse, have refuge only in the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States and The Bill of Rights. "

You folks did away with Habeas Corpus, instituted torture and offshore prison camps don't dare attempt to lecture Democrats...

"...If you understand the Constitutionist Principles that founded this Nation, nothing else signifys...."

Yet it is very clear you don't understand them at all. perhaps you should get a law degree?

"...Past a certain point - blunt correction will have to be instituted if this Nation is to survive. Freedom and Liberty have always been bought in blood; that has not changed."

Your ilk tried to retain your hideous principals and ways 100+ years ago and still have not recovered from that. It is over. I warn you this is OUR country all of ours and as you may have noticed in NYC on 9/11 we moderates and liberals are not the pushovers you silly rightwing folks like to paint us as

WTF is "Traditional Conservatism" anyway
This article seems like a laundry list of labels and buzzwords- "traditionalists", "liberals", "Socialism", etc...except he doesn't address the basic issueof defining what he means-
For instance-
He accuses "liberals" of wanting to trade away liberty for security (I assume he means economic security and liberty)
but
Do "Traditional Conservatives" believe that we should allow the Government to take our liberty in exchange for military security, as in warrantless wiretapping?

Do "Traditional Conservatives" believe in maintaining a huge, globe-straddling military-industrial complex at the cost of hundreds of billions of dollars? How does this square with the notion of "Small Government"?

The reason conservatism is failing, is that it is being torn apart by its own contradictions

Because you simply do not mean it. You folks want in our bedrooms and bodies as well as our minds. "...in painting republicans as uncaring and bigotted people...." that is because that is EXACTLY how you have presented yourselves

We are slipping into Socialism
Our Capitalistic society is on a steep slope
to Socialism. The first mis-step was the so-called $700 bil."bail-out". In January, we will see the beginning of so much more with the policies of Socialist Trio,Obama-Reid-Pelosi.
Heed the words of Thomas Jefferson stated in 1802: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to your liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and cororations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their father conquered."
Call him a prophet, if you wish, but, as one of the Constitution drafters, he could see what would happen if the Constituion's principles were ignored.

Marine's Dad, Re: Hal Donahue
Yes, you should have told him "the rest of the story".

You know, that Hal Donahue is also a moron leftist who doesn't have a clue about real conservatism and is wedded to socialism.

And is second only to "Ranger29Robert" as a laughing-stock here at Townhall.

Atlas Shrugging?
The top 50% of income earners in the country pay 97% of all the income taxes, with the bottom half paying 3%. The top 1% make 17% of all income, but pay 39% of all the taxes in the country. Has it ever occurred to most Americans what might happen to this country if most of those people in the top half just pick up and leave the country, or at least move their assets elsewhere? WHO would be the RICH then? It would be people making $60,000 or $80,000 a year. How can you fund a gov't when there is no more wealth to tax?

Something to think about...

If true, that is precisely why your "Chosen One" will have to renege on his promise to not raise taxes on anyone earning less than $250k.

I can just see it. Sometime in early Spring 2009, Obama will hold a press conference - put on his most sincere apologetic look - and tell the nation that he's sorry, but the country is in a "much bigger mess than I expected", and we'll all have to sacrifice by paying more taxes.

It will be Bill Clinton, 1993, all over again - and people like you will not see that Obama lied his way into the job - he's just "adjusting to the realities".

Competent to form your own?
The following is intended to define the future of Republicans by using a big fat lie about the Democrats : "Traditional conservatism and its advocates invariably get bad raps. They're painted as uncompromising, uncompassionate extremists who won't adjust to the realities of the 21st century." Another attempt by a so-called spokesman to speak for all in the party. The American public needs to understand that all conservatives are not Republican. That most of the far right are not Republican. Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan would not put up with the rhetoric that these men and women put out.
I think that they should form their own party and stop trying to co-opt mine.

"On November 4th, 2008 millions of Americans were shocked that a man of Barack Obama's limited experience, extreme liberal positions and radical political alliances could be elected President of the United States. For many of these Americans, the explanation was rather simple... the news media, completely enamored with Obama, simply refused to do their job.

"On Election day twelve Obama voters were interviewed extensively right after they voted to learn how the news media impacted their knowledge of what occurred during the campaign. These voters were chosen for their apparent intelligence/verbal abilities and willingness to express their opinions to a large audience. The rather shocking video below seeks to provide some insight into which information broke through the news media clutter and which did not."

"Manager" by definition "leads" others to achieve a desired objective.

Senior managers determine policy and strategies.

Middle managers lead the tactics to achieve such strategies.

HONEST NCOs know their roles.

Pretty sure you qualify.

81.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)

56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).

And yet.....

Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes

Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her "house," even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!

Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.

Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we "gave" one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)

Most of your post is drivel. However on a few points. Democrats, and Republicans, prove themselves liars on a consistent, daily basis. Running your mouth won't change that.
"... Democrats are Socialists or Marxists by definition, if not by name..."
"See this is simply not true. You want to make a point but start out with a clear lie."

Hal - you are either a "usefull idiot" or a dedicated Socialist/Marxist. "Wealth Re-distribution", "spread the wealth around"; from Obamas' mouth to the ears of the world. Look up Socialism in the dictionary, Hal.
"Your ilk tried to retain your hideous principals and ways 100+ years ago and still have not recovered from that. It is over. I warn you this is OUR country all of ours and as you may have noticed in NYC on 9/11 we moderates and liberals are not the pushovers you silly rightwing folks like to paint us as"
I must assume you are taking some kind of credit for the atrocity of 9/11; from the manner that your post was written. Stupid thing to do on your part if true and if not true, a direct indication of your lack of writing and comprehensive skills. That 100+ year ago thing comment is the old, broken device of an abject, puling fool; try some other historical irrelevancy, you moron.

Hal Donahue - II
Another thing, whit-whistle, try reading the U.S. Constitution, just once; if you need a lawyer to interpret that document you're a moron, Hal.
And keep your warnings to yourself boy - unlike you and most of your "ilk", I wore the uniform and know the difference between blood and semantics.
George Orwell said, "People sleep peacably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf". That is a truth that even "Hal - the Holier Than Thou Socialist ( or Usefull Idiot )" can't change. Freedom isn't free, Hal and jerk*ffs like you, and your "ilk" can't forget your "ilk", will always depend on someone else to fight that battle for them.
Oh and Hal - if you don't want to be labeled a Socialist; quit hanging out with Democrats.

WHEN VOTERS FLUNK A SIMPLE CIVICS TEST

.....A recent poll revealed that 60% of those who voted for Obama did not know what Party was in control of Congress and could not answer simple questions that used to be taught in grammer school Civics class ...

.....When a major political Party depends upon these voters to win elections ...then I say we have already gone past the tipping point .....COLOSSUS

Hydrogen Production Engineer
Actually Hal DID wear the USAF uniform - but was a seat-buffer who never saw action.

People that served with him say he is the same arrogant a$$ you see on these threads - and with just as little justification for said arrogance.

The question still remains!!!

We already KNEW the MSM was simply an arm of the Marxist Obama campaign.

THERE WAS no question, and there IS no question about that!!!!

What question STILL remains is:

1. Are the people who actually voted for Marxist Obama just "intellectually limited" and unable to think critically or analyze what he was actually (almost) saying?

OR

2. Are the people who actually voted for Marxist Obama not so intellectually limited, but were not well informed? That is to say, they didn't (or didn't want to) look into the real issues and just took what the MSM said as the truth?

As I posted yesterday, I'd seen an interview where people on the street were asked if they were going to vote for Obama, but the interviewer listed McCain's agenda, or were they going to vote for McCain, and listed Obama's agenda.

EVERY person interviewed said they were going to vote for Obama because the agreed with his agenda... when in fact, it was McCain's agenda they were most agreed with.

Hmmmmmmmmm???

Grrrrr.....
Every time I see that 'how Obama got elected' video I get totally ticked.

People will wise up though. Right after the country is bankrupt and I am willing to bet that most people here cannot even begin to comprehend what a bankrupt country will look like.

William
If you think Bill Clinton had ANYTHING to do with the economic prosperity of the 90s, then you are already lost.

The 90s was primarily the result of the dot.com bubble (which was bursting in Clinton's last year), and fiscal discipline by Gingrich's majority Congress elected in 1994.

The fact is, despite a fiscal year surplus, the country was still carrying a multi-trillion dollar debt at the end of Clinton's terms.

Anne
"EVERY person interviewed said they were going to vote for Obama because the agreed with his agenda... when in fact, it was McCain's agenda they were most agreed with."

Now you know the value of PR and that is the same PR that is being used to lie about a whole lot of things. Conservatives had better get with the PR game.

".....When a major political Party depends upon these voters to win elections ...then I say we have already gone past the tipping point .....COLOSSUS"

I have to agree. I say give them all the rope they need to hang themselves.

Save us the trouble.

baseballdoc: I hope you're wrong, but...

I'm afraid you might be correct.

There have been a number of posters who have mentioned "buyer's remorse" which, could very well set in as soon as the spring.

With a little luck, at least those people who were uninformed and/or ill informed will realize that this is something that we CANNOT take for granted, and it is OUR RESPONSIBILITY to make sure we KNOW who and what we're voting for.

And, with a little luck, in 2010 when the mid-term elections come about, we'll see more people making informed, wise, decisions, and we'll at least see a Republican Congress.

It's beyond me how so many people can be THAT STUPID!

Of course, I guess we have to give a pass to those who are genuinely "clinically mad" as Dr. Rossiter says... I'm just amazed that we have so many clinically crazy people running around!
(Did someone say hal doofass???) LOL

We can't survive a rotten culture
Freedom, liberty, and personal responsibility only mean something to those who practice and nurtue it for the next generation. As we continue our march toward Gomorah, the generations left behind will not know or care about these things. A nation committed to the genocide of its young, divorce and illegitimacy rates nearing 50%, a billion dollar porn industry, ect, ect, will soon turn away from liberty and demand a welfare state.

I'm 46 and have 3 small kids. I have recently come to the conclusion that my kids will not live to see the best of America.

Easy to tell that doofass has never even looked up "Marxism" in the dictionary.....

"The doctrines of Karl Marx and his associate Friedrich Engels on economics, politics, and society. They include the notion of economic determinism — that political and social structures are determined by the economic conditions of people. Marxism calls for a classless society in which all means of production are commonly owned (communism), a system to be reached as an inevitable result of the struggle between the leaders of capitalism and the workers."

Not to mention ever doing any further research on Socialism/Marxism/Communism.

William
Famous Oblahma gaffes:

Last May, he claimed that tornadoes in Kansas killed a whopping 10,000 people: “In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed.” The actual death toll: 12.

Earlier this month in Oregon, he redrew the map of the United States: “Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.”

Explaining last week why he was trailing Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, Obama again botched basic geography: “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.” On what map is Arkansas closer to Kentucky than Illinois?

Last March, on the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Ala., he claimed his parents united as a direct result of the civil rights movement: “There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Ala., because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.” Obama was born in 1961. The Selma march took place in 1965.

Obama on the war in Afghanistan: “We only have a certain number of them [translators], and if they are all in Iraq, then it’s harder for us to use them in Afghanistan.” Actually Oblahma, Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish while the Afghanis speak Pashto or Farsi.

MY FAVORITE?

Obama told a Portland crowd over the weekend that Iran doesn’t “pose a serious threat to us” — cluelessly arguing that “tiny countries” with small defense budgets can’t do us harm — and then promptly flip-flopped the next day, claiming, “I’ve made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave.”

Gee my little government worker I hope you are not doing this on our government's time???

You do a good job, David
of explaining the pitfalls ahead of us.

One of the mantras we are hearing now(even from conservatives) is that this is a "new day" a "new world" and therefore we must come up with new ideas or adjust to a changing landscape. This is nonsense.

Fundamental truths never change. The laws of economics don't change and human nature CERTAINLY never changes. The problems we encounter today are much the same as in the 1980's when Ronald Reagan won a landslide victory.

We have foreign enemies bent on our destruction, we have an economy in chaos and average Americans struggling to make it; we have a welfare state where more and more people are looking to government for their fundamental needs. If the message that Reagan presented 30 years ago was true then, and turned the country around for a dramatic revitalization, what has happened to make it obsolete today?

Those who paint conservatism as obsolete do so because it is in their best interests; Not because it is in the best interest of America.

Hal Drunkahue

"Traditional conservatism and its advocates invariably get bad raps. They're painted as uncompromising, uncompassionate extremists who won't adjust to the realities of the 21st century."

It isnt a "bad rap" Mr. Limbaugh, ITS THE TRUTH.
and its one of the exact reasons Repubs/Cons were so thoroughly TROUNCED in the recent elections.

Sir, extreme right conservative "traditionalist" such as yourself have boxed themselves into a corner because of their rigidity and unflexible attitude of "my way or the highway". This last election the majority of americans gave repubs/cons "The Highway"...

Liberal Democrats won this last election because the Republican Party was divided AND needed to be punished! The Limbaugh brothers and the rest of the "Country Club Republicans" could not get LIBERALS like Romney through the primaries and the Christian Right was not happy with McCain, until the last 9 weeks. This, along with the "Perfect Storm" of economic crisis plus Obama's unlimited money machine, born of his broken promise, was all it took! Never heard of the man but you knew that my little liar LMAO. Are you going to keep working your government job when president Obama takes over?

We are there
I think we have already passed the tipping point where we could have saved this great nation.

I really believe that in the next 5 years or so, we will begin to see the breakup of our union.

Perhaps it is for the best. Our founders knew that, although they were giving us the ability, and the responsibility to keep "we the people" free, and the govt. limited, it was likely not to last.

I don't know what the end will look like, but it is coming. We are trying to save the economy by lining up everyone to get a handout, or bailout.

What democratic nation can survive when the businesses, and the individuals, all want to have the govt take care of them.

Those that govern MUST cherish liberty and our constitution above all else or it is nothing more than an interesting historical artifact, and we are doomed.

Couple that with the millions around the world that actively seek the destruction of this nation with those here that hate the very nature of the USA and we will soon collapse from within.

Even the most liberal justices, however loathe they may to do this, still consider themselves guardians of the Constitution. reading the liberal posts is a laugh!

They think the nation actually *rejected* conservatism!

No, no, my dears, BO was elected by people who know NOTHING about our government or BO policy! (Want proof, just look at social issues like gay marriage - down in flames!)

They chose BO strictly on "feelings" -- either of white guilt or black pride. They clearly didn't vote on experience and policy content. They have no clue on issues let alone WHO his running mate was.

Nice company the "self proclaimed superior intellects" keep -- the dumb and the dumber of America.

Zogby Poll

512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points

97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates

Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions

57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

Prosperity is not evil.
Prosperity is a gift from God to be used for good deeds. Individuals not government. The government is not called.

Immigrants need to understand freedom and prosperity is what makes America great rather than the Welfare State.

Children need to be taught to understand the relationship between freedom and prosperity.

If indeed three generations have been brainwashed by socialist indoctrinators then we need to discover how to de-brainwash. Logic does not work on everyone.

Parents need to stop supporting indoctrination camps. Support universities that are truly liberal in the old sense of the word.

The Church needs to study it's Bible. What on earth are all of these churches doing talking about the Common Good and Social Justice, global warming and tolerance of immorality as opposed to being moral, lovingkindness, Jesus as Redeemer and the dignity of a human life made in the image of God Himself. Be Salty. Hot not cold. Passionate for His Laws. We don't use the inefficient cold government to show forth God's love. Wake up! True believers.

No I am not, I turn them down on a yearly basis.

Hope won't save the day
I am convinced that when the 53% of americans who put their faith in Obama realize that his presidency still leaves them a dollar short, they will focus on the principles of a strong USA. But first, the voters must cling to their 'hope' in Obama before they realize that unless they implement the principles of success in their personal lives, it does not matter who is president because redistribution of wealth (Obama's premise for all policy) has never worked anywhere in the world and it won't work for the next 8 years under Obama's presidency. The only hope americans can have is the gift of time that exposes all false policy. We found out about Bush too late that compassionate conservatism meant socialism wrapped up in christian religion (instead of the usual atheism). At least with Obama he as upfront about it. Either way, whether it's Bush or Obama in the whitehouse, less federal govt. is what makes our country great and the bigger a role the federal govt. plays in our lives, the more miserable and poorer we become. The 47% knew it on Nov. 4th 2008, the other 53% will definitely know it 2016.

Sounds like the Soviet Union and Eastern bloc to me.

Demise of knee jerk conservatism...
With more and more Republicans beginning to rethink collaborative democracy--perhaps there will become an end to the daily ration of Limbaugh and others--who cannot earn a dime without attempting to divide our people on the minutia he doles out like lard.

Rush--decry's the moment when politicians learned they could use the vote--to use raise treasury funds. Sadly, this is true. But clearly the willingness to "NOT" raid the treasury has not been any different between the Republican and Democratic administrations--at least in my long lifetime.

For once--a large majority of Americans (many who could not vote yet) are excited about a President who resounds ideals like a "pay as you go" government, strong military defense, strong foreign policy, strong economic and social programs--based on collaborative and multi-party wisdom.

Georgetwin: Good luck next year when the

unions will have "CardCheck" going, and you'll have to mark your ballot IN FRONT OF THE UNION GOONS!

Won't that be fun??? No more union secret ballots... and then what? Elections?

an idea
how about instead of putting emphasis on the size of government how about we focus on how competent it is. I mean just think about it, under the Bush administration hacks were assigned to lead regulatory agencies, hence these agencies were crippled making the government, on the domestic front, really small. On foriegn policy, on the other hand, the government was enlarged thanks to wiretaps,Guantanomo bay,the patriot act, the war in Iraq etc...
So why not we just focus on, when it comes to government actions, whether abundance or accountability are more important. If abundance is the most important obviously it would go to the private sector. If accountability is most important than it goes to the public sector.
So overall maybe we the American people should worry about not how big or small the government ,but instead focus on how it grows or shrinks. Because lets face it, if the government is actually doing everything then we don't have enough abundance, but if we have to small a government then we'll just have another guilded age/plutocracy where the needs of the American people go unnoticed becuse everything would be done based on the consent of the few elite
So overall how about we the american people just look at not how big, not how small, but how it got bigger(the government) or how it got smaller(the government) and how it corresponds to the efficiancy of America as a whole.

P.S. if you can't understand what i just said then just tell me

Sorry TH burped again.

When you use terms like 'big' and 'small' along with 'grow' and 'shrink' they are the same terms and make no difference.

You can have both abundance and accountability as they are not mutually exclusive.

As to size and efficiency...What is more efficient: the 800lb man running the Boston Marathon or the 160lb man running the Boston Marathon?

Now that is not to say that it is impossible for the 160lb man to not be efficient but if I were a betting woman I would have to say he is going to be much more efficient than the 800lb man.

Have a nice evening.
