Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Some say Obama's critics have taken their eye off the ball in focusing on his associations with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, thus giving his far-left policies a pass. But that's a false choice.

Those criticisms would have more validity but for the fact that Obama's associations and his approach to policy are inextricably intertwined, flowing from a particular -- and consistent -- mindset.

It's no accident that Obama sat for 20 years and had his children baptized in a church whose pastor revved up his congregation by denouncing America with expletives, that he had a working relationship with a professor who expressed pride in his past anti-American terrorism, or even that his wife admitted a first-time pride in the United States with the advent of her husband's electoral success.

Repeated references to Obama's close connections with these people and others are not drive-by attacks designed to incriminate Obama merely by association. Their purpose is to shine a spotlight on Obama to help determine whether he embraces or is sympathetic to the same negative views about America as his soul mates.

When you couple Obama's associations with his many statements and policies, a disturbing picture emerges, suggesting Obama might lack a robust pride in America -- at least in what he considers to be its present state. This point was driven home again this week, as Obama expressed "embarrassment" that American children can't speak foreign languages while European children can speak English.

This is hardly surprising. As others have noted, both as an Illinois senator and United States senator, Obama has been unwavering in his opposition to making English the official language. He doubtlessly has no clue why his attitude on this would deeply bother those of us in "flyover country," who comprise a large part of the American population that Obama holds himself out as having the unique ability to unite. How do you think most of center-right America would react if they understood Obama is more likely to get goose bumps over multiculturalism and diversity than the unique American culture and the values undergirding it?

Speaking of flyover country, who can forget Obama's completely unscripted expression of contempt for small-town America? In that spontaneous moment, he betrayed his typically liberal attitude that ordinary Americans are dependent on the superior wisdom of Washington politicians to save them from their backwoodsmanship.

Obama can deny his lifetime liberal voting record, he can lurch to the center in this general election campaign, and he can claim to be all about bipartisanship and unity, but he can't erase the "Bittergate" tape, which demonstrated his real idea of harmony: leading small-town Neanderthals, bound and gagged, into utopia.

And how about Obama's five-point plan to repair America's image in the world, including doubling our foreign aid to $50 billion and surrendering in Iraq to generate good will for America in the Middle East? Liberals such as Obama are preoccupied with America's image in the world -- always worried about which nations we've offended or how we've let down the United Nations, when they ought to be outraged at how those other nations have abused, scorned or underappreciated us and/or haven't stepped up to the plate to do the right thing.

Then again, this is the same Obama who said "the danger of using good versus evil in the context of war is it may lead us to be not as critical as we should be about our own actions."

Surely average Americans do not share Obama's ambivalence about America's moral standing in the war on terror. Surely they reject that there's a dangerous downside to Americans coming together in support of the war through a shared belief in the moral authority of our cause. Along these lines, is it any surprise that Obama, possessed of this moral conflict and confusion, thinks we are at fault for not trying hard enough to meet Iranian tyrant Mahmoud Ahmadinejad halfway?

And then there's Obama's statement in the New Orleans Superdome about a year ago: "After Katrina hit, we had to realize that we were no longer the America we had hoped to be. All the hurricane did was lay bare the fact that we had not dealt with the problems of racism and poverty. But here's the good news: America was ashamed and shocked."

I know many have bought into the disgraceful propaganda that problems with the governmental responses to Katrina were based on the race or poverty of the victims. Perhaps Obama, instead of wringing his hands over the illusory harm that could come to America by clearly articulating its moral standing in this war, should refrain from participating in the dissemination of such destructively divisive slander purely for political gain.

Obama's record and attitude are there for people to see. In all sincerity, I ask: How can we afford such an attitude in America's president -- especially during wartime?

Very well, Hal
I know you fancy yourself a gadfly here. Your comment about John McCain being the "best of a sorry lot" notwithstanding, you're surely aware that we didn't end up with McCain because he stood out in front of the pack, but because the conservative vote was split, producing the bizarre result of independents and moderates (and activist MoveOn.org and DailyKos-inspired crossover voters) choosing the Republican nominee rather than the Republican base.

However, as far as "you folks" messing up the country badly, you'll need to define your terms. Most conservatives don't necessarily represent the Republican party as the Republican party doesn't always represent conservatives, which is the real reason they lost Congress in 2006. So are you targeting conservatives here, or Republicans? Most conservatives here would agree that the Republicans "messed up" everywhere they betrayed conservative values. For the most part, their failures were in following liberal values rather than conservative ones. No conservative supports earmarks and "bridges to nowhere". These may have been Republican policies for some, but they were never conservative policies.

That being the case, how does an even more profound adherence to liberal policies improve the "mess" that has been made by following liberal policies rather than conservative ones?

How about naming three concrete things that a Democratic president with a Democratic Congress are likely to do that will fix the "mess?" I'd be interested in knowing what you think the solutions are. Specifics, please. Vague generalities such as "reach out to ..." tell all of us absolutely nothing. They are as meaningful as saying we're all for puppies.

Regal Lion
You are right it is over. You can even dump McCain if you want but he was the best of a sorry lot. The American people want/demand change simple - you folks messed the country up badly and need "quiet time".

Dump McCain
McCain can't make a headline in a newsroom!

Even here on TH 99% of the 2008 election stories are about who? Snob-bama!

Just listen to McCain give a speech. You need a bottle of No-Doze to stay awake.

Obama will squeeze 75,000 Obamies into Invesco Field while McCain can't pay enough fans to fill the seats behind the podium at a photo-op!

I don't mind losing but I want to go down fighting and McCain isn't fighting - he's tanking like a ringer in a fixed fight.

If you don't want to live under a Snob-bama idiocracy, then...

Dump McCain Now!

Or Maybe...
Based what I read in Leroy's post I have it backwards. Back to the history books for me!

RealBlackMan
You seem like a very intelligent individual and I respect and appreciate your honest and intelligent debate. And forgive me if this has been addressed before my post (yikes there's over 450 comments!) and I havent read them all yet. However your statement about why negroes were being counted as 3/5 of a person is exactly backwards. If I understand it correctly (and I read a lot but not as much as the genius animalgirl) the framers did not believe rectifying the issue of slavery could be accomplished at the Constitutional Convention because they were pressed for time (the British were coming, the British were coming!). However they wanted to ensure the slave-owning states did not have the higher population numbers that would lead to additional representation in Congress and the possibility that their position on slavery would become national rather than regional. At that time there was no chance a negro could become a representative themselves (unfortunately) so these states would be represented only by whites who had little or no problem with slavery. One may certainly argue based on what we know now, that their judgment was in error based on what blacks went through for the next two centuries but that was their reasoning.

Brickhouse
I hope you are right. This should be a year when we could take it without a shot, but we are in disarray and leaderless.

Do you think McCain will step up to the plate and hit it out of the park or strike out?

Obama is the Uniter:
In fact, he's uniting all of middle America (except the young, naive, and black) against him. We all know we have a common purpose; make sure Obama does not occupy the Oval Office or the White House.

Yep, Obama has turned out to unite us against him. Great uniter!

Hey Animalgirl
The fact that you tell us again and again you are so smart but over time the rest of us have found you are not very intelligent at all is ironic.

The fact that you are a fellow American with a vote this November is a tragedy.

I'm Ashamed, Too
I am ashamed, too. I'm ashamed of that half of the nation who is so stupid as to be suckered by the charlatan known as B. Hussein. I am ashamed of the Americans that are so stupid as to believe that the United States is an evil nation that needs to be changed. I am ashamed of the stupidity exhibited by the hand-wringing, whining, cowardly liberals who can see no goodness in the people, no future for the nation, and no pride in this unique citizenship. I am also ashamed of B. Hussein who wants all of the bitter clingers to learn Spanish. He is indeed disgraceful. And he can go to h***.

Hillary isn't dead yet!
Have you heard that Hillary supporters have raised over $10,000,000 in jsut a couple of weeks and plan to have her entire campaign debt retired by this weekend so that they can dump Obama at the convention?

This is great news for everyone who is sick of SNOBAMA!

Just go to: http://justsaynodeal.com/ for all of the delicious details.

Virdduh
If we have many people earning billions of dollars a year in this country as compared to some in other countries making only millions, there will be greater disparity in incomes in this country. But I'd rather live here where the rich are richer. And the poor aren't very poor at all.

Hal - Part 2
I would be far more concerned about the sorry state of math, science, and reading proficiency. Right behind that I would place the abysmal level of economic and historical understanding in this country. Where in the world did such fallacious ideas take root as the concept of a "tax break for the wealthy" coming at the expense of the middle-class and the poor? Taxes levied against what we refer to as "the wealthy" in this argument -- which are usually businesses rather than patricians such as the Kennedys -- merely get passed on to consumers. They also consume capital that otherwise would be invested, creating jobs and additional wealth for shareholders, which includes those who hold mutual funds and 401(k)s, who happen to be mostly the middle class.

Getting back to my point though, these things concern me, but they don't embarrass me. What seems to be the unacknowledged point in Obama's formulation is that it is embarrassing to him that Americans don't value the same things as Europeans, hence the lack of emphasis on foreign language learning. The core issue, then, is what appears to be a "Citizen of the World" first mentality.

Hal - Part 1
You're not likely to find any McCain fans around here, David Limbaugh included. We're simply exercising pragmatism since McCain is what we got as a result of the conservative vote being split between Romney and Huckabee.

Nice try at "changing the subject" and "avoiding the question", though. Let's get back to the topic at hand, Obama's opinion of his own country.

By the way, how silly is it to be "embarrassed" that we don't learn languages at the apparent level that Europeans do. They have a great deal more utility from learning a foreign language and vastly more opportunity to practice it. A large part of Europe can hop over to the English-speaking U.K. for a weekend excursion. Most of the continent can travel to a different country in a matter of hours. Travel to a country with a different common language is for most of us a rare event of luxury.

Limbaugh right you are on Obama!
Now please tell the American people what you tink about McCain, who married his present lady after a month he divorced his wife, who from all accounts, was completed disabled due to a car accident while McCain sat in jail in Vietnam?

I can only guess that this present lady was dropped in his lap from Heaven Above to console him as he would never keep an adulterous affair with a lady in as much as he is such an honorable man of his word who most certainly would stick to: "Until death do us part".

Laura Bush and My Opine
There is another way in which we are following the example of third world countries - income
disparity. We have now entered the arena of
the top 5. Also included in this hallowed
circle are China and Mexico.

Thanks.

OSAMA/OBAMA
Trust me, fellow conservatives and all others who love this great nation:
Osama/Obama will NEVER become president of our country! By the time Election Day rolls around, even the dumbest of Americans who were thinking of voting for him will come to their senses and say to themselves, "What the HELL was I thinking?" and cast their vote for McCain. McCain may be a poor excuse for a conservative, but the bottom line is that he at least loves America.

"According to Islamic scholars, reciting the Shahada, the Muslim declaration of faith is one of the 5 Pillars of Islam."

So? ! ? Even if Islamic scholars declare that
by the very virtue of reciting the 5 Pillars MAKES you a Muslim,IT DOESN'T. Do we need to
tell you why?

Oh Give It A Rest. If you want to call Obama a socialist, if you want to call me a socialist, if you want to call
the entire Democratic Party socialist, go right ahead. Call us Communists if it makes you feel better. We are
shaking in our boots. We know who and what we are. We don't need either your opinion or your approval.

As for Obama "soaking up the tenet of black liberation theology" for 20 years, I would just ask you how long
you have been sitting at the feet of fat, big mouthed Limbaugh, one of the most pathetic creatures (in so many ways) who lives in the U.S. today.

And I am so very glad that you brought the concept of income distribution into your second paragraph. Poor
baby has his money taken at gunpoint to give to the "lazy maggots." who are lower on the social scale than Mr.
Wonderful himself. Perhaps if you had ever taken a liberal arts class you would have learned enough logic to know
that your money is being distributed alright but it ain't goin' downwards nearly so much as it is going up. Nobody
sucks on the public teat like the rich guys. Bush, for instance, not only stole our rights away, he stole our tax
dollars also, and made himself rich through a sports franchise that was bought, sold, and delivered through
your and my tax dollars. And when the CEO's figure that $30,000,000 a year isn't enough, they cut the workers'
perks to get their little raise and when they then decide that even that isn't enough, they cut the American worker out
altogether and head for China or Mexico to get their disgracefully cheap labor. Which in turn creates more "lazy maggots" who are not working.

I am not an Obama person, I am a Hillary person - but virtually anything would be better than what we have
now. See you at the polls.

Oh Maggie Dear
"oh my, i see you are here in this post bashing again. you tell someone to "spell it right", well lady get a grip.. half bred is incorrect in the context you used it. get it right. the term is half breed.
naughty, naughty. casting stones are we...look to yourself woman. at least i was nice enough NOT to call you and idiot. i did restrain myself. by the way, if you go back to the article on guns, you will see that we are taking up a collection to buy your one way ticket to france. i am sure you will be happy there. Guess what. I've got a grip. Reread my post. I was calling someone else to task for spelling
half-bred incorrectly.

When you learn how to read properly do write
again. Until then, leave me alone.

That is, unless you do want to buy me that ticket to France. I go there often and love it.

still don't understand why liberals are against English being declared by law as our national language.

Newsflash. There are a whole lot of us liberals
who have no problem with it at all.

Ashamed ot America?
Nope, never have been ashamed of my country. I have been ashamed of some of her citizens, yep, I sure have.

I am ashamed that there are American citizens, who live in the freest place in the world, who have enjoyed the benefits that we all enjoy and yet find ways to bring shame upon her.

Denial of what America's founders established is causing decay from within.

On July 4, 1821, President Adams said, "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: "It connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity."

Terrorists United
Here she says terrorists are united...yet Saddam and his side of the terrorists did not give refuge to the others. Ive heard it a thousand times from you libs on how the terrorists inside Iraq were not friends with AQ and whatnot. You can change sides now.

I still don't understand why liberals are against English being declared by law as our national language. Even you here stated we should all know English. So why are you against making it law?

Sophie
A bi-lingual Israel (which, I think, you intentionally misspell) is easily explained. The vast majority of the Jews immigrated there from other countries; so, they bring their native language. They speak Hebrew as a state language and for religion. They can all communicate in Hebrew, except for the dog dung Palestinians who are still in the country.

Sophie of a thousand names, (Communist)
You should save this thread in case anyone from the County ever questions you being on Welfare because you are mentally disabled and unable to hold a job.

This thread proves your mental incompetence beyond any doubt.

Wrong....
"Are they not united?"

Uh, actually no, they're not....

The Muslim Brotherhood and AQ don't seem to get along very well.

Just one example.

Got anything else?

Obama gets big $ from CodePink.
CodePink is openly Communist.
CodePink is openly anti-American!
Why would they give big $ to Obama?
Why would Obama even get close enough for CodePink to give him money?

Obama Hates White People
The man that Obama came to for spiritual guidance seems to think that white people suck.

Therefore, Obama must agree with him.

Isn't that right?

Wait til someone tells Obama that Jesus was white, he'll flip...

Huh?
"Subject: My Opine hates Reagan
and his idea of the "shining city on the hill".

He thinks our country should follow the moral lead of third world countries.

"Treat them as they would treat us."

This is as incoherent as it gets folks...

Hey Laura's Bush, is the weed good tonight or what?

Obama is doing a soft shoe shuffle to the Right.
He now agrees with the D.C. Gun ruling and says he is not anti-gun anymore.

You do believe him don't you?

Language
Well, Mr. Obama may not be proficient in foreign languages, but he's an expert in the smooth talking con man's language of persuasion and I suspect that he learned this from some of his enlightened leftest friends.

It Sounds Familiar.....
Doesn't it?

Kinda like Al Gore telling everyone to curb their energy consumption as he chugs 20 times the energy of the average American household...

Must be a liberal thing...

Sophie
You might look for a better example of "post hoc fallacy". Weather can and does cause migraines in some people.

Still, you are doing a wonderful job providing excellent example of every other fallacy I can think of, albeit accidentally.

Also....
Via an ABC News report:

While the Obama campaign says that Obama speaks a little bit of Indonesian, Obama himself admits that he isn’t bilingual.

So the guy telling us our children need to learn worldly languages, and calls their lack of multilingualism “embarrassing”, himself isn’t bilingual. Gotcha.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Sophie
Now which language to learn? What you are doing is creating an environment where people know multiple languages but not necessarily the same ones. I most certainly would never learn spanish. Not one powerful country knows it. So why not Russian? Or Mandarin? Well soon everyone knows a different language and begin to know that better than English, if they actually use it. Which if they don't use it, then why are we going through all this fuss right?

Another bit about it is, many kids are taught other languages, yet they don't know them in the slightest. I was forced to choose between German and spanish...Either way its a no win.

On sharpening your mind: Can't we find something that would actually benefit them? I didn't learn a single thing about the English language while in my two years of Spanish. Id say learning the English language better would have a more telling effect than learning a different language. Languages should be done in peoples own time if they wish.

On great Britain...if they had soo many who knew gaelic...then why didn't any Americans speak it coming over? How come it didn't stick around til now, if it helped Great Britain? Their power was during us being colonies. I see a gross over-estimation upon your part.

Multiple languages will simply break apart our country and you know it. We already have many foreigners who know their native languages and guess what...they get into their cliques on the languages they know. When business is done in a single country by multiple languages, it can only harm it.

There is a reason everyone else in the world is learning English. Business around the world is done in English.

If people want to learn a language fine, but to use taxpayer dollars and force them to do it on top of that...well, that isn't liberty.

Sophie of a thousand names, (Communist)
Enlighten you?
Are you so drunk you can't read your own obfuscated posts?

Straining a gnat, swallowing a camel
In response to critics of Obama's speech on language, many liberals have pointed out that learning a second language is part of a well rounded education. Correct, but not the point.

Shakespeare, physics, calculus and music appreciation are also important to a well rounded education, but Obama didn't mention any of these. Why? Because his point wasn't that learning Spanish is part of a balanced education, it was that Americans are ignorant boobs, and he wants to appeal to Latino voters.

Europeans often speak English well because they have occasion to use English. Many Americans study a second language in school, but quickly lose it because nobody else around them speaks that language.

So why is Spanish so useful? Because Democrats want to pander to Latino immigrants (and illegal aliens) who find English difficult and want to cling to their Spanish.

Rather than ask why Americans don't learn Spanish, why not ask why Mexican school children aren't taught English? Mexican educators should prepare their kids for their futures, which will most likely be in California or Texas.

This Just In....
Breaking news, Obama has decided to play the lead in the new Greek tragedy, Sans Testicles.

"It's the part I was born to play". Said an elated Obama at a news conference today.

Studios are now in negotiations with Michelle Obama for the rights to Barrack Obama's testes.

As to your position on a multilingual society;
You have proven absolutely nothing but your obstinacy.

Those who come to America lawfully to join us as Americans, to build a better America for those who follow have always been welcome.

Those who sneak across our border to steal from us should not be merely returned to Mexico so they can try again.
They should be punished exactly as we would be punished if we sneaked into their Nation and committed a crime or applied for work.

America is an English speaking Nation.
Any foreigner who does not like that has MY permission to leave!

She is barely coherent today.

What a shock
Obama approving an ad that it nothing but deliberate outright lies and distortions of his own positions.

This man, as is true of ALL Democrats, has NO shame.

Bill Cosby
once said that in Europe, it's only a half-hour drive from one language to the next. Here in America we can hear about a man having a "hat" attack (Boston), to "Awl y'awl" being called to dinner (Alabama), to "I sawr a dog" (can't recall that particular region). His whole schtick on "Languages" is just hilarious.

Can your average Euro-wimp understand regional American vernacular?

One of the most amusing things I've ever done is explain to an Englishman how we in the West pronounce some of the words and expressions we use. It certainly is NOT the King's English we speak here!It truly is enjoyable, for the richness of a language lies in its vernacular, not in its schoolbook text.

Obama's new ad
The script:

MAN: Oh man — he's starting already ...

WOMAN: What now, honey?

MAN: John McCain. He's got new ads attacking Barack Obama on taxes.

WOMAN: Well, that's not new. Bush, McCain, Karl Rove — that's how those guys work.

MAN: Oh yeah, but this is shameful. He's just makin' stuff up.

WOMAN: Yeah?

MAN: But get this. Independent sources are putting McCain in his place. I went to FactCheck.org. They said, quote, "It's not true."

WOMAN: Huh.

MAN: And look what Time says. Quote, "It makes sense that McCain is returning to the old playbook. But that doesn't mean he can just make up his own facts." End Quote.

WOMAN: Yowza! So what's the truth?

MAN: Obama's plan cuts taxes on the middle class — and won't raise taxes on anybody making less than two hundred fifty thousand a year. But McCain wants billions in new corporate tax breaks ... and no way to pay for it.

WOMAN: Hmm. Sounds like George Bush all over again.

MAN: Guess that's why they say: John McCain — McSame as Bush!

WOMAN: Uh-huh.

Voiceover: On taxes, get the facts. Visit BarackObama.com.

Obama: I'm Barack Obama, candidate for president, and I approve this message.

EMBARRASSED AND ASHAMED ? ( CONT.)
James H. Cone

Aspects of Cone's theology and words have been the subject of controversy in the political context of the 2008 Presidential campaign, as Barack Obama's pastor Jeremiah Wright noted that he had been inspired by Cone's theology. Some scholars of black theology have noted that the controversial quotes do not necessarily represent black theology as it is currently practiced or the views of people like Wright who practice it. Cone has responded to the controversy by noting that he was generally writing about white churches that did nothing to oppose slavery and segregation and not about white people as individuals.
Hoover Institute fellow Stanley Kurtz, in a political commentary in National Review, wrote that "Cone defines it as "complete emancipation of black people from white oppression by whatever means black people deem necessary." For Cone, the deeply racist structure of American society leaves blacks with no alternative but radical transformation or social withdrawal. So-called Christianity, as commonly practiced in the United States, is actually the racist Antichrist. "Theologically," Cone affirms, "Malcolm X was not far wrong when he called the white man 'the devil.'" The false Christianity of the white-devil oppressor must be replaced by an authentic Christianity fully identified with the poor and oppressed."

It would appear Obama is the RACIST. When you lay down with dogs don't complain when you get fleas. I don't have to call Obama a liar, his own words condemn him!

no it's called fallacious logic

Obama told the AME Church in St Louis on July 5th he became a Christian decades ago while working as a Community Organizer in Chicago! His Mentor Wrights mentor was James H CONE……..A Ordained Minister of the AME Church !

Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance
is a memoir by current United States Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. It was first published in 1995 after Obama was elected the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review, but before his political career began. The book was re-released in 2004 following Senator Obama's widely admired keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention (DNC); the 2004 edition includes a new introduction by Senator Obama as well as his DNC keynote address.
Below are some quotes for your review:

“I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.”
“I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.”
“There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.”
“It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names .”
