Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Poor Hillary. She can't afford to attack Obama where he's vulnerable, but she can't afford not to. Even if she does, it's likely it won't resonate with a leftist base made to order for Obama. Worse yet, it's probably too late anyway.

The irony is that if Hillary had been willing to be who she really is -- an antiwar leftist -- she'd probably be in the driver's seat right now. But her calculated and inconsistent shift to the center several years ago in anticipation of a general election created a gigantic Obama-shaped hole on the left.

Hindsight reveals that Hillary's strategy of holding herself out as the battle-tested, experienced candidate was ill-conceived. Not only was it untrue -- most of her experience was vicarious, which doesn't really count -- but the very theme of experience did not play well with a leftist base that was agitating for change, radical change, even if it had to come from a greenhorn. Hillary's claim of mature leadership just reinforced that she is part of the Washington establishment that gave us Iraq.

Even if that issue is becoming moot, its bitter memory is not. Hillary will always be damaged goods to the unforgiving antiwar left, no matter how often she pretends she was duped by a "dope" into voting for the resolution authorizing war.

Of course, Hillary says she's for change, too -- she wants to revert to the Clinton glory years. But with Bill's unattractive side -- defensive, combative, narcissistic -- in such prominent display on the campaign trail, voters are reminded more of the Clinton scandals than their so-called glory years. Simply put, the left wants change, and Hillary has no credibility as a change agent.

So where is Obama vulnerable? I believe he does have a glaring weakness, but Hillary is uniquely positioned not be able to exploit it.

Not long ago, Hillary added to her brief against Obama the charge that he is all form and no substance, flowery speeches without specifics, promises without solutions. I think she was close with this, but she slightly missed the mark.

Just because Obama is given to lofty oratory and inspires hope with platitudes doesn't mean he's an empty vessel. I'd fear an Obama presidency much less if he were just an empty vessel.

We underestimate him at our peril. He is plenty smart and quite capable. And he does have an agenda that, sadly for us, is substance-rich. His generalities-laden, silver-tongued optimism conceals a hard-core leftist blueprint for this country that would make Dennis Kucinich look like Milton Friedman.

Obama's fancy speech doesn't reveal emptiness as much as a lack of realism and, possibly, deception. He waxes eloquent about unity, bipartisanship and hope. But does anyone, let alone Hillary, ever ask him to explain precisely how he would achieve such harmony when pursuing a far-leftist agenda that is anathema to at least a majority of this center-right nation?

How unified do you think Americans would be if Obama were to pursue a policy of retreat and defeat in Iraq just as we are on the verge of wining there? Will the right sit idly by while he implements his version of socialized medicine? How about more onerous taxes? Further entitlement spending? Open borders?

As a Hail Mary, perhaps Hillary could say: "Barack makes nice-sounding words. But he's not being straight with you. I'll be straight with you. We Democrats do offer hope, but it's not the kind of hope Republicans are going to like. We can't promise you we'll achieve perfect harmony or bipartisanship. In fact, we can pretty much guarantee Republicans will try to obstruct our program for change -- you've seen how they've blocked our plans since we took control of Congress -- because we have a different vision, a progressive vision looking to the future. Barack gives you the false hope that this is going to be easy. I'm telling you the truth -- I'm giving you the reality. Like at all other points in our history, it is going to be a struggle against those who don't share our vision. But it will be worth it, and we'll prevail, because we have the right vision, the noble vision that is best for the people and reflects their will."

The problem is that Hillary might even be worse off using that approach because to attack "hope" and to try to put a damper on Barack's infectious optimism is like trying to badmouth motherhood and apple pie.

Nor is she, being sympathetic to socialism herself, in a position to point out Obama's inconsistency in pretending to love individual responsibility and entrepreneurship while recommending mostly government-based solutions.

Let's face it: Short of a major scandal or a vice-presidential nod, Hillary's pretty much out of luck.

The Democrats
Have a race. It's exciting and almost 50/50.

We like our candidates.

The Republicans...

Well you still have Ron Paul!

Poor Billary Is In Serious Trouble!
This is like the stuff that dreams are made up of. It is not supposed to be happening in the real world! Billary being whipped by Obama? And the more she plays her coy and divisive gender, age, race and media cards, the more Obama smiles, shrugs them off and keep sweeping the country with victories and getting embraced by both the democrats( young and old) the Independents and even some Republicans! Very astonishing to say the least. This man's magic is frightening! He seems to have the magic touch and everything he touches turns into victory. Even the cynical and destructive American media embrace him, sing his praises and is treating him like a messiah! That is why I call him Mr. Bam-Bam, or the man who shall be King. Scogostology.com

Michelle's and Barack's gaffes
I could be wrong, but Hillary hasn't gone after Obama for his wife's comment about never before having been proud of the US, and Barack's "clarification." There are plenty of things - about America in general and politics in particular - during Michelle Obama's adult life that even hard-core leftists could be proud of, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1991. But Hillary can't exploit that gift from her opponent because she knows the left LOVES anti-American sentiments like that.

Obama's Record
The Left has been squealing that Mr. O is not an 'empty suit' and in fact has an impressive resume'. What his list of accomplishments show is that the Left thinks there are about 535 people in Congress that are qualified to be president. The standard they are using has to be masses of proposed legislation that doesn't get passed coupled to a desire to make government bigger. That describes just about everyone on Capital Hill.

Qualifications?
US Constitution, Article II, Section 1

Everyone running is qualified.

Deal with it.

The impossible mission
If Barack Obama doesn't win forty states I'll be shocked. I've never seen anyone inspire so many by saying nothing, and that is precisely what makes him so hard to beat. We would have a chance if there were a real conservative running this year, and (sorry Medved), McCain is not that. At some point McCain will try to defeat Obama on the basis of policy, and it will be as effective as teaching a pig to sing. Obama's supporters are enamored with his looks and his personality to such an extent it makes Mike Huckabee look like a statesman. Because of this it will not matter what becomes known about the man because his followers view him as a messianic character and will forgive anything he does. Add to that the rising tide of support from people who say they like McCain now but will vote for the democrat candidate when the rubber meets the road. Then there are the people who will vote for Obama because he is a fresh new face, especially compared to the 145 year old McCain. Add to that the notion that if you vote against Obama you are racist, and you just know that is coming. Throw in traditional democrat voter fraud and this thing is sizing up to be a bloodbath.

The Debate Last night
Limbaugh is spot on today. Hillary clearly doesn't have a plan for this excitement over Obama. There were many times last night in the debate that the gloves could have come off, but she clearly didn't have anything good to combat him with. Quite sad really to watch her southern belle smile pasted onto her face, and her eyes glaring and smoldering.

But after viewing the dem debate last night I almost wept for this country. They have assumed SO much--"everyone" needs and wants ALL their "plans" for change. I got the impression that they really belive the reason America hasn't done the "socialist thing" before this election is because we haven't had two such genius' running for the White House before--or ever. They have calculated about how to beat each other--at least Obama has--but how do they plan to conquer the People? What are the calculations for that? Or are they assumeing their own rhetoric (that ALL Americans are waiting with baited breath for socialist change)to be true?

It was like watching some sort of weird Alice in Wonderland version of a quasi debate. (Not that any candidate actually debates anymore.)I kept waiting for the White Rabbit to run through with his clock, and for Hillary to scream "Off with his head!" as they both "debated" non-issues about how different they are, in so many ways, that are so very much alike, to Stalin.

No disrespect
Sincerely with respect for Barack Obama - because I'm sure he believes in what he's fighting for, and I respect him for that even tho I'm a Republican - but I think Obama's star brightened a little too quickly.

I even think Hillary could come back and upset Obama for the Democratic nomination, since she's now the underdog - and America loves the underdog. There's a long, long way to go in the Democratic nomination; and even as a Republican myself, I think Hillary finished that debate in Texas last night - very, very well. She impressed me!

Barack Obama was the underdog the whole time, and also the novel newcomer - which I think helped him a lot. Now he's the candidate who's getting more and more scrutiny; and he should become human - since the scrutiny's now fully on him... and he is.. actually... human. I'm pretty sure.

Being a Christian, I understand the tendency of people to look for a Saviour - even mortal human ones; but humans cannot survive too long in the role of Saviour - especially if his/her star brightens as rapidly as Barack Obama's has. I think we've all seen the focus on B. Obama start to reveal things we didn't notice only a few weeks ago.

My theory is that Barack Obama cannot sustain this position of the Saviour of super-liberals, liberals, independents, and even some conservatives for much longer - now that the spotlight on him is so bright.

Hillary just needs to continue smiling, being nice and humbled - and she could very well be debating John McCain pretty soon!

Barak "Elmer Gantry" Obama!

It's amazing that so many are listening to HOW Obama is saying NOTHING, rather than the fact that he actually IS saying NOTHING.

History is full of people who were great, slick, silver tongued speakers just like Obama....

Speaking of Iraq: Obama has said.....

1. But what I do think is that the civilian leadership and the commander in chief has a responsibility to make sure that they have the plans that are going to allow our troops to succeed in their mission.

2. That's why I have a plan that will begin withdrawing our troops from Iraq on May 1st of this year, with the goal of removing all of our combat forces from the country by March of 2008.

3. Now, us having gone in there, we have a deep national security interest in making certain that Iraq is stable.

4. In terms of timetable, I'm not somebody who can say with certainty that a year from now or six months from now we're going to be able to pull down troops.

5. I have put forward a plan that will get our troops out by the end of 2009.

6. I believe that we should have all our troops out by 2013, but I don't want to make promises, not knowing what the situation's going to be three or four years out.

7. The idea that the situation in Iraq is improving is simply not credible, and it's not reflective of the facts on the ground.

8. I don't think any of us should be rooting for failure in Iraq at this point. This is no longer Bush's war, this is our war, and we all have a stake in it.

Charlie, Anne
Charlie,
Your post only forgot to mention that the "Naval Captain" sits and stares admiringly at his childish post while doing what we all know he does best.
And of course we can expect that his buddy in dissing this country will object, as usual, to having the truth about Wobbie pointed out so factually.

Anne,
First, I trust you got Charlies message that we weren't phased by the quake in the least.

Other than that, GREAT POST and spot on as usual.

Marines' Dad: And...............

Wobbie is the one who 'claims' to be doing night patrol in Iraq to protect us from evil... ha ha ha, even though he claims to be a Navy Capt., PILOT.

Has anyone figured out just why a Navy Capt. PILOT is doing night patrol in Iraq? Ummm???

AND now he says he's going to be a delegate for the RNC???

How does one manage to be a delegate when he's off in Iraq on night patrol?

Oh the inconsistencies... Or, more accurately, the lies and delusions..

Marines' Dad: Once AGAIN, wobbie will

ignore the perfectly legitimate question. LOL

Because he knows he's been BUSTED once again?

Who among us can say
"Nope" to Hope?

I'd encourage you all to listen to Michelle Obama -- she makes Mussolini sound like Mary Poppins. Wait until Former First Lady Michelle launches her Presidential bid after a short stint as Senator from Chicago. Republicans will be writing in Hillary!

At Last!
At last! Progress! The author says Obama is "plenty smart and quite capable". That's an improvement over the many townhall posts describing Obama as a wide-eyed innocent ("Obambi"), an empty suit, a know-nothing, a do-nothing, and a figurehead put up and controlled by a guilt-ridden liberal white establishment.

Glad you're finally starting to listen.

Go Obama.

Marines' Dad: Where did wobbie go...???

Ooops, ran away again.. LOL

See
See, the spotlight on Barack Obama is getting brighter.

In our Information Age - the truth will come out that Barack Obama is human. Or even another wordy politician.

Conversation With An Obama Supporter
Supporter: "Wouldn't be great if Obama becomes our next president."

Bystander: "Why do you think he would be so good?"

Supporter: "Because, he is the one that can bring change to Washington. They will become more concerned with the needs and worries of ordinary Americans."

Bystander: "Why would our politician all of a sudden care about us and agree with each other enough to pass legislation?"

Supporter: "Because, Obama represents change and will bring an amount of hope and harmony never seen before in Washington?"

Bystander: "So Washington will take care of my Health care needs?"

Supporter: "Yea"

Bystander: "Washington make sure I earn a living wage no matter what kind of job I have?"

Supporter: "Yea"

Bystander: "While Obama is in Washington he will keep my taxes down?"

Supporter: "As long as you are not rich."

Bystander: "Why would I want to become rich? Sounds like I am all taken care of."

Pause

Bystander: "So, Obama will bring this about in Washington through the hope and harmony he brings."

Supporter: "Yep"

Bystander: "Do you think that view is a little simplistic?"

Supporter: "I BELIEVE IN OBAMA, He is the only one you gives us hope for change. YOU don't see this?"

Bystander: "I just thinks we need more infor..."

Supporter: "WE have all the information we need and doubters like you just need to get out of the way so we can bring about the change America needs."

-Supporter starts walking away.

Bystander: "What about Harmony and working together? I just want to know more. What kind of change will he bring and how!"

-Supporter walks away.

Lilly
I don't discount Obama's intelligence nor Hillary's for that matter, most on the right don't. Its policy that matters. The left (NY Times) anointed John McCain for the right. We had no one who was a great candidate (I wanted Romney). McCain is a RINO and he still has not garnered the support of hard-core conservatives, he has the so-called moderates and right leaning lefties and left -leaning righties. His slice of the pie isn't big enough to win. If I were a leftist, McCain is ideal. The base he needs he stabbed in the back and he had to work just to win them.

Typo? I think not
"How unified do you think Americans would be if Obama were to pursue a policy of retreat and defeat in Iraq just as we are on the verge of WINING there?"

A whole lot of Republicans want this so-called war over, and for very practical reasons, too. It's a neocon strategy that tries to define the position of the right via a herd mentality. But it won't be too much longer that it will be plain that this conflict is not only unfeasable, but impossible to pursue.

Robert

Shrillary Clinton – Hamstrung by The PC Nonsense of her own construct, SHE IS TOAST!

Wobbie – Since ROBERT is a LIAR, A CHEAT and A COWARD. He feels no shame and is therefore (in his eyes) blameless. If gay marriage is legalized, Robert & TR will be VERY HAPPY together.

Not too many
posts for a Limbaugh column. I agree with David Limbaugh that Obama is quite dangerous in a socialist kind of way.
I don't think that the fools fainting and cheering even him blowing his nose are going to like what he will usher in.

Obama is the scariest candidate
Beacause he is smart enough to speak only in platitudes and wonderful sound bites. He is the perfect candidate for movers and shakers behind the scenes to run things with him as their frontman. By not letting people know the specifics of his beliefs, he can sound like this magical savior who can bring a return to American greatness. What a surprise we will get if he is elected!
He is scary because he is the most leftist candidate and the policies that he would push will lead is to follow the Soviet Union to oblivion. More government is not the answer despite what people like Robert and Lilly think. Socialism does not work and will never work no matter what "enlightened visionary" runs the show.
I pray to the Lord that the American people wake up and see both H. Clinton and Obama as the socialists they are and the Cuba we will become under their "leadership".
I also pray that conservatives wake up and vote for McCain in the general election if he becomes the Republican nominee (Not my first choice but the lesser of evils that remain on the table). He is not your ideal conservative, but neither was Ronald Reagan. Reagan is fondly remembered because he was able to make us feel good about ourselves and to bankrupt the communists. He appointed unconservative judges and granted amnesty to illegal aliens. Don't get me wrong, Reagan was probably the greatest president we have had since Lincoln, but he had faults too.
McCain is still WAAAAY more conservative than any of the democrats. We also can try to elect conservatives to Congress to regain control of the legislature to balance liberal executive branch. Then hold their feet to the fire to reduce spending and expand tax cuts to positively affect the economy.

deceptive appearances
Nothing about Obama's quest for the holy grail of American politics is settled; except within a circle of media pundits well-paid for their BS.

He's drawing applause at all of his rallies, of course. All very impressed with his charisma. Most of them in a maddening lather over Bush/Cheney; desperate for "change." He has yet to meet an opposition party gathering, or debate the Republicans one-on-one.

Then we'll notice hard facts about Obama. He has MANY flaws yet to be exposed and analyzed in the bipartisan arena. It's to be expected he'll give as good as he gets. But the bloom will come off the rose. People have to see the "change" as neighborhood "RAP" sooner than later. Did they expect some tongue-tied, middling rapper from the Chicago hood, not a flaming narcissist practicing his art ? Because he speaks like a pol ?

This is a man who weaves a spell, all right. He closes most of his speeches by promising Pie in the Sky; even saying "Together we shall change the WORLD !" Nothing less ! I want to see him back that silly rhetoric up, face to face with his counterpart on the stump. My bet is, he'll self-destruct when serious questions start popping.

skywalker81 writes:
Don't get me wrong, Reagan was probably the greatest president we have had since Lincoln, but he had faults too.

Ronald Reagan didn't start The Civil War. Abe Lincoln was not universally loved by any measure. Lincoln is remembered as the President who ended slavery; nonsense he would have allowed slavery if the Union would have remained intact. Much like JFK Lincoln's image grew after his assination. Much like JFK used television Lincoln knew how to use the new medium of photography to bolster his image. Lincoln presided over the most destructive war in this nation's history and for that he is praised.

we're staunch republicans
My good wife and I are hopeful and responsive Republicans.

Early on she was pessimistic, saying it was a foregone conclusion, Hillary won't fail. She's the coming Democrat president. I totally diagreed. I stated that her extremely polarizing, abrasive personality, coupled with the baggage she brings with her-- all would mitigate against the media's fawning publicity, and help our candidate. YES, I believed even early on it would be McCain.

Also I pointed out--above all, electorates are NOT unpredictable. They follow patterns, Blue States as well as Red. A man of color has yet to become President. Why should one succeed all of a sudden ?

I think one could, and truly OUGHT to -- But by seeming, at least, a person of extraordinary substance. It might have once been Colin Powell. Not a 2-term ultra-liberal senator who's used to taking his marching orders from Ted Kennedy ! Both the Democrat candidates are ultimately VERY beatable, IMHO --

Swing by my blog, I've got some good stuff on Commissar O-Vomit, as does the Crawfish!

Another bombasting Limbaugh skinning H.
Boy it takes great intelligence to skin lady Hillary! While the Republicans, my party, has a man that from my perspective as a legal immigrant of 52 years is really nothing but a refried Hitler, whose morals are evermore in question. Yes, from what I "accidentally" ended up reading, this McCain self-described as straigt talker, after he came back from Vietnam supposedly befriended the lady that he later married a month after he divorced his invalid wife, who became an invalid due to an auto accident, but she did not want him to know while in that horrendous jail. Should that story pen out to be true, I will have no choice but consider his morals lower than that of an old rooster in a chicken coop! Yes, while Ron Paul, with an impecable record based solely on the USA Constitution gets sneered by every other Republica. Of course he is not an Imperialist, while Imperialism has now America completely enslved.

Obama
Google - Larry Sinclair

wow, gunny !
A brokered convention ?

How ? After McCain has gained 90% of the endorsements that matter going into the convention? Not to mention Huck crashed and burned but keeps on giving McCain free election campaign photo-ops ?

To boot: If that puts Thompson/Hunter on the ticket, what's to keep the Democrats from beating them November by a ROCKSLIDE ? Not a mere landslide !

Those two might capture the "base" of about NOTHING percent; (the FENCE Huggers-- The Shamnesty bagpipers and Minute-Men loons)

--while McCain during his run would draw HUGE votes from right side, center, left of center, RINOs, the military, independents, hispanics and even many centrist Democrats! --He was BORN for this contest, because he's not joined at the hip to the alarmist Right, which is political suicide --

Obama Lies
I sure hope the Republicans and McCain were taping that debate last night in Texas.
Obama is an out and out liar but the hate America panel and audience didn't say a peep.
Obama stated he met a corporal or something that had been in Afghanistan. The officer told Obama his unit should be 39 but 15 had to go to Iraq.
The officer stated they were sent to Afghanistan with no vehicles or weapons. He said they had to capture prisoners in order to get weapons and ammunition.
McCain needs to use that tape and confront Obama with this lie against our military. Unbelievable.

Obama and Hillary
Every time Obama says he will get rid of lobbyists, just scream back at him "right after we get rid of ACLU civil rights attorneys."

After Obama makes Hillary disappear, he can be defeated by making "the ACLU" the issue.

Obama Lies
I just saw on Fox News the military is coming after Obama on the statement I referenced earlier.

the story has been confirmed
by CNN and ABC News:

Robert - Quit this ''Master'' crap
--
Do you honestly think that *anybody* is buying your bullpuckey about having served in the Navy?

McCain was a naval aviator.

There's no indication at all that he ever qualified as a deck officer to stand a watch aboard a ship at sea, or that he's ever held a Master's license issued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

His only command experience was as the CO of VA-174, a stateside A-7 *training* squadron (1976). He has never held a combat command, and subsequent to the completion of that tour of duty he was assigned to nothing more than liaison posts, which made it clear that despite having been allowed to attend the National War College (1973-74) he was never again going to be assigned another command slot appropriate to his rank.

By 1981, it was retire or get RIF'd.

I don't care if you want to keep sucking this bilge, but the "Master and Commander" crap's gotta go.

Obamanation
.....that causes desolation.

Obama Lies
I'm just amazed he would repeat such a story denigrating our U.S. Military. Without fact checking. The same military he wants to be Commander in Chief of.
Well as you can see from Fox news he has been rejected profoundly by that military.
This may play well with the left wing loonies but, the rest of America is sickened by this slander.
