Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Commentators are citing the unpredictability of the Republican primary contests as proof that Reagan conservatism is dead when precisely the opposite conclusion is warranted.

The main reason the conventional wisdom is being shattered in the primaries is that conservative voters, so far, have not been persuaded there is an electable, reliable conservative in the race.

But as I've stated before, I believe Fred Thompson is a reliable, consistent conservative. There are others in the field I could support, but not without some reservations. The more I learn about Fred and observe him in action, the more convinced I become that he's the right choice.

I was among those who urged Fred to step up and prove to the people he wanted the job. Regardless of whether Fred actually had "fire in his belly," the unmistakable perception out there was that he did not, so I encouraged him to add a little spring to his step.

But I've also appreciated Fred's unwillingness to be somebody he is not. He will not respond like a puppet when a debate moderator tells him to raise his hand to signify a childishly simplistic approval or disapproval of a certain policy. He will not be goaded by interviewers into saying things he doesn't feel comfortable saying. He won't divide us with class envy or pretend we can be friends with rogue regimes or terrorists. He does not promise a chicken in every pot or pander to liberals on global warming.

He will not otherwise tailor his positions to suit the demands of particular constituencies. For example, he has the courage to preach that Social Security is in trouble, but unlike most others, he doesn't surrender to the oppressive populist seduction to urge government fixes for it or for health care. Instead, he courageously tells us -- if we'll listen -- that the answers lie in greater market forces. (Listen up, conservatives.)

Fred does not run from his record -- more to the point, he doesn't need to. He shoots straight without the constant self-serving reminders that he does, as in telling us he's driving the "Straight Talk Express."

More importantly, Fred is right on the issues, and there's little doubt his positions are firm. Research his stances; read his position papers. You'll find he's very strong in all areas important to mainstream conservatives, including national defense, taxes, spending, life, immigration, federalism, appointing originalist judges, health care and education.

I'm not drooling over Fred or saying his record is flawless, but I am saying he's the real deal, and it's a bit disappointing that more haven't taken a closer look.

I think this is due partly to his laid-back personality and partly to his timing. He peaked about the time he was contemplating entering the race but not acting on it. By the time he jumped in, it was anticlimactic, and he still hasn't recovered from that reversal.

There has also been a negative momentum hovering over his already-stalled campaign, acting as a psychological barrier to his catching fire among conservative voters.

There is simply too much herd mentality among us about electability. We tell ourselves a candidate is not inspiring, then pretty soon we're convinced he's unelectable, and, voila, he almost becomes so. Yet, at that very moment, he's proving to us that he is quite presidential, quite electable and quite motivated for the job -- if we can only shed our predispositions against his "electability." Since electability is often a matter of collective perception, it can turn on a dime, as with the reversal of the respective fortunes of screaming Howard Dean and somniferous John Kerry in 2004.

This primary season, relatively speaking, has just begun. But Fred is now up against the wall. How can we expect him to have done much better than he has to date with everyone prattling on about the overwhelming odds against him? The "experts" continue to be wrong at almost every turn, so why can't they be wrong about Fred, too? It's time to quit empowering them by following their dictatorial doom-prophecies. Its encouraging that John Zogby's latest South Carolina poll shows that while levels of support for McCain and Huckabee "have remained static," Fred is starting to move up.

Supporters have asked Fred to step up, and he has -- he has shone brilliantly in the last month, setting himself head and shoulders above the pack in many cases. Now it's time for conservative voters to step up and quit placing artificial limitations on Fred, and on themselves.

Fred has answered the conservatives' call. Shouldn't we answer his?

Bravo
Yes, Fred should be on everyone's top pick list. Him and Romney all the way.

Thompson/Romney '08

Step Lively
When Limbaugh talks about encouraging Fred Thompson to act more lively, what springs into my mind is a scene from some science fiction movie where the mad scientist hooks up the corpse on the table to electrical current.

I know
a real conservative gets progressively marxist
liberals in a tizzy because they don't have any rational comebacks except personal attacks as
expressed by the usual suspects. Nothing of substance, not honest debate, only snarky jibes.
I haven't really decided who I will support except for McCain and I will not support him. He's got nothing to say to me. I like both Fred and Duncan Hunter and it looks like Fred has a better chance than Duncan. And David's reasoning
is excellent.

I'm voting for Thompson
in the Cali primary, and I've contributed to his campaign. I think he's the best candidate of the GOP field.

Perfect? No; nobody's perfect to me, except me. And I'm not running.

Two staunch liberals
screaming for any Republican but Thompson and/or Romney, knowing full well the rest of the pack is imminently beatable by Shrillery, Hussain, or the lawyer guy.

Even if one of the "rest of the pack" happens to win the presidency, the left wins anyway because they will still have a baby-killing, gun-grabbing socialist running things.

The Conservative
You have said it all.Conservatives and fellow Americans, our next President Fred Thompson.

Sorry
for the double post. Tried to whittle it down and change wording trying to get it past the digital censor.

Limbaugh Calls it.
I don't see fred as Lazy.

If Hillary, or Edwards are examples of Fire in the Belly, I'll pass.

I've spent the past year reading everything I could find about all the candidates. I get their newsletters, I read their blogs, and have weighed the pros and cons of each.

Today I did something I've never done before despite being a political junky for years. I donated some of my money to fred08.com (they even take Paypal) This is after Fred only took 5% of my Union controlled state.

Fred's Biggest assets are his statesmanship, and his ability to think on his feet.
In a debate, he'd wipe the floor with Hillrack Clintwards, and leave them bewildered, wondering what just happened. (ever see his video to Michael Moore?)

We have a chance of a Brokered convention this year, and the chance of a Thompson/Romney, or Romney Thompson ticket.

All it takes is for you fence sitters to do a little due dilligence. Read up on what the candidates propose. Read their blogs or term papers, The answer will come pretty easily.

Fred Thompson is the only Consistant Conservative. Hands down.

Fred is the ony consistent conservative
Thanks, David, for clearly stating why this man must be the next POTUS. Imagine his careful, authoritative, experienced and knowledgeable presence in debate against Obama or "Monica Lewinsky's ex-boyfriend's wife"- he'd knock 'em out of the park!

Now, how about Thompson/Hunter or Fred/J.C.Watts or Fred/Michael Steele or maybe Fred/Condi?

Fred is the guy
My husband and I have been watching Fred "with a great deal of interest," as Bette Midler put it, to see if he gets new batteries pretty soon. He is indeed the penultimate conservative in the race, and, next to Duncan, who really can't win, Fred pretty much mirrors our values.
I could live with Mitt, but never Huck or McCain, and, as much as I like Rudy, he's not a conservative.

Here's to Fred!

Blackthorne
I agree, it's funny the usual suspects around here, who are usually shilling for the empty pantsuit, are suddenly telling us how great McCain and Huckabee are. I guess it's true, it takes one to know one, and they see fellow travellers in those 2.

And the Libs would have it made if they got a RINO in the WH, because they could still have all their happy world programs, then blame it all on the "Evil Republican" when it all turns to doo doo.

No wonder the Kos Kidz were voting for McCain tuesday. :op

This will be taken wrong by trolls
and it's totally off topic, but can someone please tell me where Hillary gets some of those hideous pantsuits? Every time I see footage of her victory speech in NH, the only thing that runs through my mind is "It's amazing what you can do with an old tablecloth".

Ok back to our regularly scheduled argument. :o)

Robert
I know I shouldn't feed the trolls, but I would take the advice of my 3 year old granson before I listened to anything that falls out of that void between your ears.

Just one question? How does it feel to be a laughingstock? Just curious.

The Wisdom of Wobert
It never ceases to amaze me, Robbie is wrong all the time, yet he tries so hard to prove he's the smartest troll in the swamp.

Robert: McCain? Oh Great I thought i was voting for McClane!! I want Bruce willis for President.

(of course he'd still be better than Hillrack Clintwards)

LOL, USMC LT
Hahahaha, that was funny.

And thanks for your primary vote. I won't let you down!

Fred's Carolina moment of truth
When I think of Fred Thompson's campaign, the famous Shakespeare quote comes to mind:

There is a tide in the affairs of men.
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.

He diddled around with his entry to the point he squandered what momentum he might have realized last Spring or even by July when he was scheduled to join the GOP cast.

Now he faces a make or break test in South Carolina this weekend that looks dubious. Unfortunately, if, as a result FDT leaves the race, the GOP will be left with a nominating slate conservatives can hardly get excited over, but will be much worse for the party.

My email to David Limbaugh
Great column! It's about time somebody other than little-old-me said this.

You could have written pretty much the same column about Alan Keyes. But is he too "unelectable"?

Fred lost a lot of credibility...
...when he decided to smear Huckabee in the last debate.

Fred knows his charges are false. But he jumped on the bandwagon of the anti-Huck forces in order to get tehir attention and their votes. This is pandering.

He said Huckabee is a liberal. OnTheIssues.org puts Huckabee squarely in the conservative camp, just to start with. This charge is simply ludicrous in the light of Huckabee's record and positions. Sure, Huck is not in the extreme far right, but he's definitely right of center. I challenge anyone to point out a liberal position Huck has taken.

Fred charged Huckabee was against school choice. Come on, this is SO lame! Anyone who bothered to look into his record and position on education knows 1) that he achieved a DRASTIC improvement in Arkansas schools, and 2) he is a great proponent of school choice. He does not support vouchers as the panacea, mainly because many Christian schools don't want the mandates that the government would inevitably attach to the money. Instead, he prefers an education tax credit, which achieves the same thing.

Fred claimed Huckabee was one of the "Blame America First" crowd. This is so wrong it's sick. Huckabee dares to point out some mistakes we've made internationally, and this makes him a "Blame America Firster"? I'd say if anything, his policy paper was a return to "Speak softly and carry a big stick." After all, Huckabee is the only candidate I've heard proposing to boost military spending to Reagan-era levels.

It is this kind of dishonesty that has really turned me off this election season. I would expect it from our political enemies, but not from our fellow conservatives. I always expected them to debate on substance, to take the full picture into view, and be pursuers of the truth. I do not expect this anymore.

Another of Fred's distortions
Fred attacked Huckabee for his record on supporting education for children of illegal immigrants. First, Huckabee never supported in-state tuition for children of illegals. He supported making a scholarship available to a small number of high-achieving children of illegal immigrants as long as they qualified on every other criteria. Huck's record on immigration has admittedly not been as tough as many today would like. But most Republicans have evolved significantly in the last few years on this issue, including myself, as we have become more aware of the scale of the problem. Instead of taking a look at Huckabee's statements and policy positions in the last year or so, and up to today, Fred cherry-picked one issue and tried to use it to paint Huckabee as the OPPOSITE of what he really stands for.

Repubs like Fred are shrinking the party
Fred basically came out and said Huckabee belongs on the other side of the aisle.

If this is how conservatives continue to act, we will push many more people over to the Democratic side, just as Fred apparently wants to do with Huckabee.

Don't misinterpret me. I'm not threatening to leave the party. I'm pointing out that if we continue like this, we will push people in the middle, or only marginally in the party, over to the other side. We need to be firm on our principles yet always looking for ways to bring people to our side.

Fredheads trying to con voters
I've noticed a lot of Fredheads posting comments about how this or that candidate should win, or should not win.

Then, they suggest that in South Carolina you should just vote for Fred, as a strategic vote to achieve your desired end result for your own favorite candidate.

It's a scam, folks. They're just trying to push Fred over the top!

And the media blackout
on Duncan Hunter continues.

I know he is a threat to the left, but the right also ignores him and his message, while others try to adopt it?

I MUST SAY THIS...
I don't wish to be unkind, but I think that Thompson would benefit a lot if he underwent a little plastic surgery. No, seriously, nothing drastic. Just that a little "bi-lateral blethyroplasty"(sp?) would do wonders for his campaign and attract more younger voters. Many, many people are having this type surgery done today.

It seems that some people have more accumulated fat/bags under the eyes than others and it's quite all right to have it removed. Anyway, I had to say what many others have been thinking the past year or so. He has a very lovely young wife. Good luck to Thompson in SC!

GO FRED GO!

The Best Candidates!
Romney/Hunter/Thompson!!!

Thompson
I'm with Fred and praying he wins S.C

McCain Pelosi
Please no McCain. I am voting for Fred this Sat. I am praying he wins S.C

FRED
Fred, yes. Romney????.... Not so fast....some people just have not done their research. All the best in S.C. Fred!!!

The Buzz
This column is really almost the same as Dr Sowell’s column so I will just say a few things and repeat the last part of post there.

First, this “fire in the bell” and “lazy” thing is a media construct that was throne out there because the media hates a real conservative. Even Fox is pulling for the RINO Rudy. Just wait until Florida and watch them start with the heavy Rudy coverage. The only reason that they haven’t saturated the air with Rudy is he hasn’t started campaigning yet. Note that you don’t hear the pundits decrying “fire in the belly”, “lazy”, or late to the campaign for him. All they say is “he has a Florida” strategy.

As for Fred and being behind in the polls/lack of traction:

The buzz here is that Fred is surging, but because of the all the liberals in the previous States voters may go with other candidates because of the “winner halo” effect. Especially the liberal religious candidate Huckleberry. The knowledgeable political gurus in SC are predicting a 4-way tie.

I leave with this question. Would the race be the same if South Carolina had been the first State to vote BEFORE Huckleberry got all the attention in Iowa and McShame got all the attention in NH? The answer is that it would have been a landslide for Fred.

STRIKES AGAINST FRED
The conservative base of the party is not willing to settle for the "lesser of two evils". They turned GHW Bush out of office in 1992 because he compromised on principles and said no to Gerald Ford in 1976 and Bob Dole in 1996 because they were not conservatives.

Conservatives are sick and tired of the relentless efforts to force feed them RINOs. If a RINO becomes the nominee, conservatives will say no and let Hillary or Obama become President.

Can a Silent Generation man who has never held an executive position defeat a Boomer?

DAVID!
It's about time you became a Fred Head! Tell The Godfather to start plugging Fred's cause! He is the ONLY TRUE Conservative and many of us will no longer vote for a RINO! (Have The Godfather put THAT out there for the RNC to hear.)

THAT SAID!

Not one, not two, but THREE solid and devastating gut punches to the leftist vermin!

Indeed, my hate mail sent me on a Keith Ellison scavenger hunt for the facts.

Read em and weep libs!

ONLY TWO
tickets worth voting for...

Thompson/Hunter

Thompson/Steele

BOTH set up a younger and solid conservative for follow-on elections.

Great post on Wobbie the laughingstock.

We've been calling him the "Court Jester" of TH for a very long time.

?????????
guess what ??????

robert won " most stupid poster of the decade ".

David's being way too nice...
to voters by concluding that they deem certain candidates unelectable. I think that they're either, a. uninformed in which case they shouldn't vote at all, or b. stupid for voting for someone like McCain after he's trampled the constitution on more than one occassion. The Reagan coalition isn't dead. We post here every day. Too many voters in this country are brain dead. This is especially true for all Democrats who vote Democrat just because that's what they've always done. It doesn't get any dumber than that.

Update From SC
The local news this morning is reporting a dead heat between McShame and the Huck. The push is on in SC with all the news media (especially the papers) endorsing McShame on the Repub side. The reason for that is that the SC Republican Party bigwigs are supporting McCain due to the urging of his favorite BB Senator Lindseedoil Grahamcracker. The newspapers are supporting himn because they are ALL Democrats. They will turn on ANY Republican after the primaries.

LOL, Sen Grahamcracker will be lucky that he doesn’t lose to “uncommitted” since the Dems chose to not run a candidate saying “he’s our best representative”.

PS Offtopic for all you guys: The Barrett-Jackson Auctions start on Speed Channel today at 14:00.

Your statement - "Fred attacked Huckabee for his record on supporting education for children of illegal immigrants. First, Huckabee never supported in-state tuition for children of illegals. He supported making a scholarship available to a small number of high-achieving children of illegal immigrants as long as they qualified on every other criteria." - let's discect this a bit....
1) "First Huckabee never supported in-state tuition for children of illegals."
2) "He supported...scholarships...children of illeagl immigrants."
When you cut the excess wording and attempt to hide the truth you show yourself to be blind to the thruth in your zeal.
This flawed way of thinking demonstrated there was no need to read any of your follow-up screeds.

In this race there is one person I will not support claiming the mantel of (R) and that is McLame. I will either "under vote" or actually vote the other side.
Some one I would prefer NOT to have to vote for would be the Huckster...I probably would...but would really have to hold my nose.

My bet is you are likd the RonPaulBots and other Huckster supporters who will not support any one else.

If so, save us the scroll time and just quit posting.

The Brothers
keep pushing Fred and Fred moves nowhere. I wonder why they ignored their vast polling machine to back him? They usually follow not lead...

Disgusting
I just watched a clip on Fox with Mort Kondracke and Fred Barns. They both spent time denegradating SC again for “dirty politics” and good ole’ Mort had to get a shot in on the Demo polls. His complaint was 2/3 of the black vote is going to Obama while 2/3 of the white vote is going to Hillary. His complaint??? The 2/3 of the white vote going to Hillary is racism (implied).

Oh, and they all pushed McShame some more.

The Doofus
pipes up and sais absolutely nothing. Not to worry folks, he never sais anything, anyway! I think I figured out why wobbie and the Doofus sound so ingnorant all the time. I'll explain later.

Vic
"...They both spent time denegradating SC again for “dirty politics” "

SC is a disgrace. After what was done to McCain last time, there is simply no redemption and no one trying. What are we going to talk about, the rebel rag next? Geesh

SSGT
"...pipes up and sais absolutely nothing. Not to worry folks, he never sais anything, anyway! "

I guess it is an education thing. I asked a question.

halD writes: "The Brothers keep pushing

Fred and Fred moves nowhere."

Can't figure out if you're just ALWAYS WRONG because you're stupid, or you just ALWAYS LIE!!!!

The fact is, Thompson has GAINED points over the past several days...

Remember... Slow and steady does it!!!!

Remember, Reagan was "unelectable"
according to the same MSM BS artists that are trying to tell us who to vote for.

BrianR, ditto, except I live in VA. Have to check my balance to see if I can afford to give Fred more.

Go Fred, go!!

David, 5 stars and thanks for coming around to the correct candidate!

Hal, Robbie
Just STFU.
Neither of you have any sense if you think the left has anyone who gives a rat's asss about the what you think is good for this Country. When are you going to get it? Who do you have if it isn't the Limbaugh brothers to spout your drivel that garners 25 million listeners? Who? And who do you have that you can truly say isn't 100% about tearing this Country to shreads? You and all your little cohort lefties here are in Alice's little Wonder-lalala land. God Help us. You don't have a clue. Can I borrow your rose-colored glasses for awhile? Maybe it will make me "feel" better. Oh and bring apail. I am going to puke if I have to keep reading your shitt.

RichL & BrianR: Right on, guys!

I'm on board as well. Going to send Fred some more money... and keep on sending it as I can...

And as for the whining
trolls..."I won't vote for so and so, because he (wah!) said bad things about so and so (wah!)
Give me an f-ing break. I suppose all the trolls don't seem to notice that the dems like to eat their own? Just wait until we get closer to November. Whoever survives will be chewed up like a ball of cud and regurgitated back to whence they came, all in favor of the power trip. For them it's not about our Country's preservationor values, but their own "presidential preservation" and the power they think they'll have. They will simply begin to erode all the things we stand for, until we become a Marxist nation. Now that would be something to be proud of, hey?

When the trolls
start bashing somebody, that is the best endorsement of all! (Robert, Lilly, etc.)

Thanks for this column David. I have not been able to get why more conservative columnists have not come out in support of Fred. I agree he is the real deal.

When writers talk about his lack of "energy" I think what they are really saying is "We want someone with a Pepsodent smile and a full head of hair who will look good on the cover of a magazine." Americans, and that includes conservatives, have become WAY too attracted to glitz and Hollywood showmanship.

Grow up America, or Big Daddy will end up running your life because you didn't have enough wisdom to elect a real conservative.

?
I find it odd that a Huckabee supporter would say that Thompson is unelectable.

Nee/Anne
I can't decide which one of the Doofus brothers is more ignorant, wobbie or The Main Doofus? Could I get some assistance on this? Its so hard to try to peg by just little ole me!

SC Update II
Bad weather predicted for Saturday:

In the NW part of the State they are predicting snow and rain in the morning, snow in the afternoon. This will depress the religious vote which is heavy in that area.

The midlands are predicting a high in the 40s with rain. This will depress the vote for both Fred and McShame (Ft Jackson and Shaw areas have a lot of retired military).

The coastal area is also predicting rain. This will depress the turnout of both Fred and McShame because of the retirees around Charleston.

So overall the State will be having bad weather but the worst of the bad is predicted in the areas of the NW part of the State, therefore the Huck will be hurt the worst by the weather.

Nee: LOL; you're killing them today.

I like Fred
and the more I read the lunatic postings of Robert, hal etc., the more I like him. Where's my checkbook? If Robert hates him so much, he must be the right man for the job.

Robert
So they hang on to thread. FDT is popular with the "ditto's" problem is that the "Dittos" are apparantly not as big a force as Rush's mouth would make them (little limbaugh is just a family hangeron). "

Why I Like Fred
Fred talks to people, he is not prone to giving speeches, he is not remade by pollsters and public relations hacks daily; Fred is Fred today, tomorrow, and yesterday. Fred has massive ability to analyze an issue and sort out its many elements to find an appropriate solution. Fred can read and understand the Constitution and the Federalist Papers. He will not be fooled by bleeding hearts and cry babies. Fred will not redistribute our wealth, he will not practice forced benevolence to bail out people making bad decisions, he will appoint good Judges to the Courts, and he will be a consistent Conservative. BTW how many of you are going to Robert and Lilly's wedding? Robert wants everyone to wear a pink tuxedo.

Hey Wobbie!
Here a racist quote for ya on Confederates.

"The Confederate Memorial has had a special place in my life for many years. . . . There were many, many times that I found myself drawn to this deeply inspiring memorial, to contemplate the sacrifices of others, several of whom were my ancestors, whose enormous suffering and collective gallantry are to this day still misunderstood by most Americans."

Print it out.

Roll it up.

And I'll tell ya where to stick it.

I'll cast my
vote for Fred. I made my mind up a month ago for Fred. If McCain gets the call I'm not voting.

Well Donahue,
have you read the book yet to find out why you are so disgusting?

Warrior
BTW how many of you are going to Robert and Lilly's wedding? Robert wants everyone to wear a pink tuxedo.

Wobbie jilted HalD!? WTF!?

D*MN! HalD gets kicked to the curb by the AF and now Wobbie throws him over for lilly!

What's next? Keith Ellison being exposed? Libs getting a smack-down?

Yep, click on my handle to find out.

Good morning to you and yours!

Good luck getting an answer on that. I'm still trying to figure out why il roberto thinks I'm a Confederate nut who jumps illegals.

YLG
"YO" Dear Scarlett! I feel ya. This bug has jumped on my arse, and it won't go away. Glad its a long weekend. I need the break. Hope your bug gives up its affection for ya and you get to feelin better soon.

I'm still pondering which idiot is the first place idiot:
Wobbie - the I luv my wubber ducky!
Hal - I am a complete Doofus moron.

Vote in the primaries now.

Fred!!
If you believe in Fred then shout it from somewhere besides here!! If Fred is going to make it then he has to get some major endorsements. Those of you who can speak to the public need to start yelling and screaming his name, cause I'm not hearing it in the media, except for a whisper.

the gloom and doom make or break for Fred. It looks like that's going to be their push all day today.

WOBBIE!
"General Rush is loud, but so is a stuck hog."

How DARE you talk about your mother like that! Have you libs NO RESPECT for your elders!?

Great Post, David
I am sure glad to see Fred being supported by you. I was getting tired of people saying they liked Fred, but that he wasn't electable, so they were voting for another candidate. This column didn't have that effect. If everyone who likes Fred would vote for him, then he would become electable. The Limbaughs for him and the Wobbie/Hal against him is a win/win situation.

Fred's got my vote
I like Fred’s record and he says what I want to hear but the media spins the attention away from him to the candidates who don’t say what I want to hear and who have philosophies and history that I question.
Fred’s got my vote.

HalD
"SC is a disgrace. After what was done to McCain last time."

HAHA! You're whining for poor McShamnesty.

Maybe he could ask Hanoi Jon Carry to be his VEEP! But then he'd have to explain this article on Hanoi John Karri.

http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0408,schanberg,51276,1.htm l

Or maybe YOU can explain it, you campaigned for him.

For Fred NOT McCain
Reps for Lib Reps don't get it. Why vote for Democrat-lite (Huckabee, McCain) when you can go whole hog and vote for a full-fledged liberal Democrat? I'm voting for Thompson but the more he distances himself from McCain the better. If McCain gets the nomination, I won't vote for him. I'd rather see a Democrat screw up for 4 years than a Liberal So-Called Republican ruin the party for good. How many times does McCain have to put the screws to us before we learn? Our candidate should provide a sharp contrast to the Democrats not look just like them except for Iraq.

SSGT
I vote for il roberto.

It may be a "good" long weekend for you, but I have the kids!!

Maybe if I cheat on the bug with a harmless bacteria (you know, a 24 hour fling), this bug will leave me for another woman.

"...flying south for some R&R...might check in as things unfold in SC but not very likely. The hotel has "sking" and "water surfing" and besides we are going to do "flight ops" with each other!"

2. You taking "Pilgrim" with you?

3. Did your blow-up doll of Wonder Woman make it in your AF surplus B-4 bag with all of the phoney patches on it?

McCain hurt by Marine murder?
Why is it that Fox isn’t putting two and two together with McCain and their missing/murdered babe of the week. In the latest one the girl was killed by a “regularized” Mexican. Why aren’t they asking people if this is going to “hurt McCain”?

Robert
Why do you always post "Long Live the Republic" while preaching socialist mantra, one or the other huh. I would also say why don't you read a history book, but you can't even seem to comprehend the present. Have a good time in the south-stay as long as you want, just not Texas. OK

me fredhead
I agree with Laura Cap. Both McCain & Huckabee would destroy the party. They are not conservatives. I liked Fred from the beginning and was disappointed that he didn't ride the hype he was getting before he actually jumped in. But even so, the media has been dissing and keeping him marginalized ever since, along with Romney -- the two best candidates out there. A Thompson-Romney ticket would go a long way toward getting America back on its feet.

YLG, good morning.
I'm sorry you are still feeling poorly. Tell HH (Hungarian Hunk) that he needs to "up" the TLC a bit.
By the way, if you haven't read 'Lone Survivor' by Marcus Luttrell, please do. He describes the traitorous influence of the so-called liberals/media on our warriors as well as it can be described. I didn't like Donahue before I read it. Now, he and his kind just make me sick to my stomach. This country can easily do without them.

I really hate to say this, but il roberto claims to be from Texas. Of course, he has never said he's a Texan...big difference in my book. He posts that sign-off because he found out that "Live Free or Die" was taken. As for reading a history book, to hear him tell it, he has LIVED all the history there is!!

Chopper John
Any more TLC from my hubby, and I will die with a huge grin on my face....but, what a way to go!

I have a gift certificate at the local Borders, and have been making a list of books to purchase. I will certainly add this one to "The List". About the only guilty pleasure on "The List" is Lyn Hamilton's "The Chinese Alchemist". I'm a sucker for mysteries!

Chuck Norris Look-alike backs Fred
Hi,
I'm a Chuck Norris look-a-like and I just want to say that, me and my family are backing Fred Thompson for President. His message is clear, consice and consistantly conservative.
Fred believes in the individual Americans, like you and like myself. He believes that we should not have to depend on Fat, Overspending, Power-hungry Government to Feed, Clothe, and provide for us. He believe in freedom and he believes that the Governments main role is to secure that freedom to live life to the fullest and that we have a right to keep as much as we can of what we earn when we spend our precious time working for our families.
I am a Chuck Norris look-a-like and Fred would approve of this message!
Hooo-aah!

How can Frobusto be from Texas, yet fly "south" on R&R, with a stop over in SC, to "check in as things unfold in SC but not very likely."

As I stated, he'd be flying East to SC not South.

I think a Navy CAPT, an FAA test pilot, jetjock, helo-pilot, etc would know his cardinal points on the compass!

His flight-ops consist of swinging his blow-up doll of Wonder Woman around in a circle, making airplane noises, until he gets dizzy and falls on it.

Primus54 nailed him dead-on. Frobusto

GunnyG, garryb
I said he claims to be FROM Texas, not that he LIVED here!!

garryb: He probably was run out of town, what with his egoistic, condescending attitude.

GunnyG: Of course he's a fraud. Who is in doubt? Heck, a few weeks ago he "implied" he was "stationed overseas", remember?? His "going South" is an apt description of his credibility.

Difference between Obama and Fred?
Besides completely different views on everything aren't they both a little light on experience?

I happen to like Fred and wish his campaign had been run better. I like Hunter as well but don't think either can make it to Feb. 5.

All of the others have major pros and cons. I can't think of a scenario where Hillary does not win. I will still support a Republican-lite candidate over the other side.

Good luck Fred.

Fred and Newt
That would be a Conservative team. I want to hear how cadidates are going to reduce government and spend my more more wisely, not how they are going to have a Big Government Give-Away when they get in office.

I'm going to make a donation to Fred in Robert's, lilly and Hals's name! HAHAHAHAHAH

For his credibility to go South, he would have to have some to begin with. The only thing he can do now is become more negative.

For all you math fans, what happens when you take the square root of Wobbie's credibility, as expressed numerically?

Done
My absentee ballot went in the mail 2 days ago with Fred's name selected. If he doesn't get the nomination, I don't care who does.

Fred is the only one who can save the...
...Republican Party. From what I've heard and seen of him, he is not a populist like the rest of the Republican candidates, wetting their finger and sticking into the wind to see what the public wants to hear. What you see with Fred is the real deal, and that's what you would get if he were president. The only reason Fred wouldn't get elected is because the voting public is too uneducated and too uninterested in real issues. The heard mentality that Mr. Limbaugh mentions is alive and well, especially among a majority of younger voters. America is in imminent danger of economic and social collapse because Marxist liberalism has succeeded in gradually and insidiously weaving itself into the fabric of our society. When I hear so-called conservatives talking about government solutions where market solutions are obviously superior,(education, health-care, global warming, etc.), I figure the future of capitalist America is on very shaky ground.

YLG

The Article
I'd like to see Fred win. I have contributed to his campaign and if he is still running when we vote in NJ I will cast my vote for him.

My choices in descending order are Fred, Mitt, Rudy, Mike... I would put Duncan Hunter in there if he had any traction whatsoever. I will not vote for McCain unless it is a choice between McCain and Hillary. I believe that if McCain wins the Republican slot then we are bound to have a Democrat in the White House. Why else do you thing that McCain gets good press?

I base my decisions first on how well a candidate's stated positions map to my beliefs, then how well his history maps to his stated positions, in the process I also consider the types of experience a person has... someone that has held elected executive office gets points over someone who has not, but it is not the only factor. Finally, I look at how well they communicate and whether or not they come off as likeable.

This business of allowing "Independents" to vote in party primaries is horse dung. It allows others to distort the real party choice. It should be stopped.

Well it looks like Bush and Co.
have sold us out again. His announcement just as good as said he is signing on to the Lamocrat "stimulus" package, otherwise known as bread and circuses for a non-problem.

I would rather have seen him tell the Lames to make the tax cuts permanent and when they picked up their marbles and went home jhe could say fine.

Me too, Me too!!
I'm for Fred, a true blue conservative!!

Fred is Toast
If Fred ran the Romney-type campaign from Day One, he would be the clear GOP front runner. I love Fred and truly believe he would have made a fine President. I switched from Fred to Mitt when it became clear that Fred's campaign did not match the quality of the candidate. Fred's numbers are horrible. Has he not been bested by Ron Paul in at least one primary? He does not have a large comeback state, like Rudy potentially has in Florida. Real Clear Politics' most recent poll shows Fred with 14% of the vote in 4th place in South Carolina, his "firewall" state, compared to McCain at 28% plus! Liberal McCain is apparently whipping Fred in a very conservative state.

Fred's best chance for the White House will likely be via the Vice-Presidency, or a dinner invitation.

Limbaugh
Personally,I could care less who either Limbaugh supports. That is up to them. garryb, I hope you have a HUGE bank account, per your 10:10 post!

GO FRED GO!
I have said for months that if any of our candidates gives voice to true conservatism that our party will win the White House in a landslide and possibly pick up seats in both sides of Congress. I have contributed to Fred's campaign and will vote for him in the California primary and the general election.
Thompson has the same problem Tom McClintock had here in California when running against Arnuld. The perception was McClintock couldn't win so why waste your vote on him. And predictably Arnuld won and we ended up with yet another socialist as Governor.
This country will suffer deeply and for generations if the democrat party takes control of this government.
Put your money where your mouth is fellow conservatives, Fred CAN win, and this world will be better off for it! GO FRED GO!

Fred is Toast Update
The most recent Fox News poll shows Fred in 4th place with 11% compared to McCain in 1st place with 27% of the vote.

Fred will likely pull out soon, toss his votes to his dear friend John McCain or Mitt Romney, and hope for a Vice-Presidency from the ultimate nominee.

Fred D. Thompson and the Far Right

"[M]y guess is that Huckabee is going to take SC with McCain second and possible Romney 3rd."

My unscientific opinion, valued less than a cup of Starbucks coffee:

McCain = 1st (by 5% plus)
Huckabee = 2nd
Romney = 3rd (closer than most analysts think IMO)
Thompson 4th (does not get 15% of the vote)

Moderate Mark, Gunny
Mark, Gunny's right; just try to post something conservative at HuffPo or MoveOn and see what happens.

There are many liberals who post here in a reasoned and polite manner and are then engaged in fun debate; I enjoy it a lot, and frankly am not interested in participating in a forum where all I hear are echoes of my own opinion. We on the Right also have our own disagreements among ourselves, sometimes quite heated.

The difference with HalD and Robert is that they post in a (I'm sure) deliberately provocative manner and tone, and then rightfully get their heads handed to them. In HalD's case, he then turns around and cries like a baby about being treated rudely. We've had other posters in the past (Phylo, Kimberly) who were also, frankly, a-holes. Sofia (under whatever her latest name will be) is another very egregious offender, with rude and obscene posts. Yesterday, on one column, I flagged several of her posts as offensive because they were frankly obscene.

Bottom line: all views are welcome here and can be freely expressed. You pretty much get treated the way you treat others.

It really is an open forum.

I can always count on you to make me smile.

It's evil, but a smile, nonetheless!

Only candidate that can beat the Dems
When will we learn that the MSM liberal media will never pick or talk favorably about a candidate they view as a real threat. Just like sheep, many wanna-be conservatives allow pundits and liberal media to decide their candidates for them. Listen to the voices of conservative talk radio. Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham to name a few. They all detest McCain and Huckabeee and call them out regularly as the moderate liberals that they are. Neither one of these RINO's would be good for this country or for the conservative movement. Neither one of these guys can win the general election because they don't have the support of all republicans. They would fragment the conservative coalitions and assure a democrat victory in November. I will not vote for McCain or Huckabee should they win the nomination. Because when people are even more unhappy 4 years from now with the direction the country is headed I do not want conservatism or republicans to shoulder the blame by trying to be more like the democrats with liberal policies. The only way to beat the dems in November is by choosing a REAL conservative to run against them. Fred Thompson is the only candidate that a conservative could vote for with the least amount of compromise to conservative principles! Lets not screw this up by nominating candidates who are trying to be more like democrats! Just say no to McCain and Huckabee.

All of you folks who say I
like Fred but I'm voting for x because Fred can't win are forgetting that this is a PRIMARY. The idea is to vote for who you like regardless of what these lying polls say. All you dois amke a self-fulfilling prophesy.

And don't forget what Lee Bandy said last night. He says that it will be a 4 way tie in SC and he has been calling elections for a long long time in this State (even if he does work for a liberal paper).

I previously switched from Thompson to Romney. I am equally prepared to switch to McCain if statistical probabilities support the likelihood of a McCain victory in November. I prefer Romney, but will vote for McCain to secure a GOP victory at all costs. Call me a Republican Vote Whore, if you will. McCain is undoubtedly liberal, but I trust him to cut federal spending, preserve our military, and to protect America from Islamic terrorism. Those plus factors offset his liberal weaknesses, to some degree. Above all, I believe John McCain is patriot and a gentleman who will serve honorably as President.

Consider the alternative: The election of President Obama or President Clinton II.

Hopefully Fred is Dead
I lived in Tennessee when Fred was my senator. He was worthless then and I don't believe he has changed. He can talk a good ol boy game but he doesn't even answer constituants when they write to him. Ignoring the people who elected you when in office does not bode well for the next time. Fred was dead then and hopefully his political career will be dead after SC.

YLG
Kudos to USMC, he inspires with his "Take A Hillary" line.

Electability
For me, Fred is the ONLY GOP candidate who IS electable! I never saw any of the shows in which he acted (well, I just recently saw him in "The Replacements" on TV) and didn't know much about him, but I thought he had the right message for America - even before he entered the race.

What about all the rest of the GOP candidates? Hunter is out of it, although he is top-notch conservative. Ron Paul is a joke! Mitt Romney would be so much better than what the dimmies are offering. The rest of the GOP field are so far left they should be campaigning as Dems.

I originally feared Fred would not run. Now, my only fear is he may be forced out due to funds. Fred is the ONLY politician for whom I have ever made a monetary donation in my almost 72 yrs on this stage. I don't have much, but I will donate again.

If all of us who say we support Fred will make a donation to his campaign, I believe his
"numbers" will "catch fire" and surprise everyone. LET'S DO IT FOR FRED AND FOR AMERICA!!!

I Like Fred
In fact, other than Romney, who I see as a sociopathic opportunist, I respect all in the GOP field. But I really think his swan song is this Saturday. Even if some don't agree with me, the good news then is that he'll most likely endorse his good friend, John McCain, which can only help him in the South. McCain remains the most electable in the field, and conservative enough, even if there is a strange hatred for him among far righties.

BrianR
NAILED IT AGAIN :)!

Fred or Mitt
I could comfortably vote for Romney or Thompson. I haven't decided which one I'll vote for in my state's primary (Utah), but I sure hope that one of them wins the nomination. I'm not sure I could vote at all for any of the other Republican candidates, should one of them win the nomination. I'm fairly certain that if Huckabee gets nominated, I'd have to sit out the election. I know how that sounds, but I just don't think I could stomach casting a vote for that guy.

Robert's dancing bears on ice
Robbie,

Are you the officer who seved in Vietnam? If so, what was your rank and your job?

Why do I ask? From your numerous posts, you remind me of certain officers whose incompetence resulted in some of my men getting their names on THE WALL. In certain other cases, some officers (whose combat demeanor was very similar to what you espouse) were awarded their names on THE WALL - by their own troops.

Why don't you tell us WHO you support? I don't recall a post where you wrote anything positive. Everything you write is denigrating and degrading - especially toward Mr. Thompson. Why do you fear him so much? Is it because he really IS the consistent conservative who is the REAL HOPE for America? Are you AFRAID that a POTUS/CIC race between him and the dimmies will expose the Dems for what they are?

BrianR
THANK YOU! BTW, Excellent Posting! My next Missive is in the final stages.

I'm a big fan
of Fred Thompson's bid to become President.

The greatest appeal it has for me are the informed position papers that demand consistent, rational, conservative principles being applied in a Limited Federal Government that still takes National Defense seriously (both at the border and abroad).

I'm also sold on his voting record: solidly Pro-Life, consistently conservative. Fred talks the talk and Walks the Walk - and it is a straight and narrow.

It might be a very minor point in the grand scheme of things, but it makes me smile that Fred Thompson's second-biggest source of negative feedback comes from those who are offended or disappointed in his unwillingness to dance like a little puppet every time some Big Media type wants to make an idiotic spectacle rather than deal with the Real Issues. His biggest source of negative feedback, of course, comes from the Progressive Marxists who know Thompson as the genuine threat to their agendas.

- He's not a "recent convert" on the core issues.
- He's not a media-pandering "maverick" RINO who makes all his waves selling out to the Dems.
- He's not a big-government European Christian Democrat wannabe RINO charlatan who lies about his own record and ducks the issues.
- He's not a crack-pot who ruins the credibility of Limited Government positions by enmeshing them with isolationism and black-helicopter theory.
- He's not desperately telling everyone anything they want to hear to get elected.

He's Fred Thompson - a solid conservative from President. He's got my vote and my meager campaign contribution.

""Fred's numbers are horrible. Has he not been bested by Ron Paul in at least one primary?""

Think about the states that have voted so far TD.

Iowa: the republican party there is overwhelmingly owned by the evangelicals who want someone "just like me". Moot state.

New Hampshire: Liberal Blue state full of "independents" (wishy washy) McCain practically lived there running up to the primary.

Wyoming: A conservative state largely ignored by most candidates except Romney. (Any wonder why he won?)

Michigan: A Blues state in the southeast corner (detroit) Red state everywhere else. But democrats were allowed to vote republican.
So they propped up the candidate they know they can beat. (McCain)

Basically none of these states so far "Represent America". Each has it's own unique demographics.

I suggest you listen less to the "Media" and do some due dilligence on the candidates, then vote for the one whomost reflects your views.

I was part of the 5% here in Michigan who had sense enough to vote for Thompson. And even though he only got 5% here I believe in im enough to donate money to his campaign yesterday.

As someone posted earlier on this thread, in 1980, the media said Reagan was unelectable too,
but the True conservatives stood strong for the True conservative candidate, and Reagan won in a landslide.

Yet another artice
by a conservative who doesn't mention Duncan Hunter. And in this one, "electability" is specifically mentioned as something that ought not be considered. (I'm not sure where my last attempt to post went.) I've been a fan of DL for a long time, but I don't understand what he means when he wrote, "There are others in the field I could support, but not without some reservations," unless he has already written Hunter off. Much of what he wrote about Fred could be said of Duncan. Hunter too "is right on the issues, and there's little doubt his positions are firm. Research his stances; read his position papers. You'll find he's very strong in all areas important to mainstream conservatives…" And, "[H]e's the real deal, and it's a bit disappointing that more haven't taken a closer look.

If there is "simply too much herd mentality among us about electability," why not exercise the keys, pens, and voices more for the candidate with the best, longest-running conservative record? Because he's written off already as "unelectable"?

double standard
"Fox is continuing to push the gloom and doom make or break for Fred."

That's the media's double standard. It's their equivalent of a push poll, attempting to influence the election while pretending to report on it.

According to them, every race is do-or-die for Romney and Thompson. But McCain can skip any race he wants to, and if McCain doesn't try, then that state is declared to be meaningless.

I guess you got that right - McClueless vs Prez Obama or Clinton II. THAT is the only way I would vote FOR him (voting against the far-worse alternative).

Why did I switch from Fred Thompson to Mitt Romney? Reality. Thompson has no statistical chance to win the GOP nomination IMO. Great message but ineffective campaign. My second choice, Romney, has the credentials to become a respectable Republican President.

My overriding goal is a GOP victory. Unlike some of my conservative brethren, I am willing to compromise for the sake of a Republican victory. A Democratic win will effectively give the opposition control of the White House, Senate, House of Representatives, and possibly the Supreme Court with a few key appointments. The GOP faces nearly complete marginalization.

I prefer Mitt Romney because his values more closely resemble mine, but a further switch is possible if my candidate falls statistically short against the Democratic nominee. To date, John McCain consistently polls as the GOP's best candidate against Clinton or Obama. Should that trend persist, Republicans and conservatives alike must decide whether they are willing to sacrifice the Presidency by refusing to support McCain over their chosen candidate. I will switch to John McCain if, over time, statistical probabilities continue to favor McCain over the Democratic nominee. I'm a lawyer by profession, so I engage in the fine art of comprise daily.

dog ate my homework
I've gotten used to the posting delay, so I don't double post any more, but this time it just flat out ate my post.

King Liberal
I swore I would never respond to you again but just once more. I don't respond anymore because your reading comprehension is so poor. In my book, that invalidates any other comments you have because you obviously have less reading comprehension ability than my 11 year old.

My comment were pointed at the hypocrisy of the liberal women's groups and their hissy fit over an off-hand comment vs. their silence over a rapist in the oval office. My post was not in support of CM. Way to miss the point-AS ALWAYS!

Fred is the total package
Huckabee is Br'er Liberal's briar patch. They know they can thwart his social agenda, and they know he doesn't really mean all those sops he's been throwing for the other conservatives. Besides, even if they lose, a President Huckabee in 2009 guarantees a Dhimmicrat president in 2013.

An earlier post encapsulated McCain's appeal precisely: maintain the military, win the war, suppress spending. All good things, but that's it. Open borders, amnesty for illegals, unreliable judges, and higher taxes come with that. I'll have to pass.

Hunter? Of course I like Hunter, but to see his campaign would require an invitation to his home, where I'm sure it's all still laid out there on his kitchen table. Seriously, the only reason I know he's still in the race is all the Thompson supporters saying nice things about him. A little clarity would be nice: true conservatives have two choices in this race, one who still has a chance, another who does not. The latter should endorse the former. It would be a shame if in the four-way tie being predicted for South Carolina, Fred failed to come in first by a margin made up entirely of Hunter voters.

So, come on, Palmetto State! And hang on, Fred!

http://www.Fred08.com/

PS: While in the wikipedia article on South Carolina (to make sure that "palmetto" has two t's), I found the state's motto -- a very appropriate one for Fred's campaign. "Dum spiro spero": "While I breathe, I hope." I like it.

I am heartened
that so many have picked up on my ideal ticket. I wrote Thompson/Romney08 on a thread over a week ago. At that time, I had not seen any suggestion of Romney as Fred's veep. Today I have seen quite a few. Let me reiterate the logic here.

If Fred has a weakness, ( beyond the drive-by talk of belly-fire, which is BS ), it is his lack of executive experience. Romney has the biggest boatlaod of solid exec experience, but lacks solidity in his conservatism. The ticket of Thompson/Romney rounds our both candidates by supplying Fred with an experienced administrator and Mitt with a solid conservative compass. The ticket will not work in reverse, as Fred need to be the Pres. to keep Mitt from his anti Federalist Michigan bailout scheme and other semi-liberal populist notions. Another aspect of this ticket is that, aside from his duties as Senate Pres., Fred can direct Mitt's formidable abilities in bureaucratic house-cleaning everywhere from the State Dept. to the FCC. Fred's solid plans for Social Security and Tax policy could use Mitt's talent to execute. Its a match made in heaven! All it needs is Romney's cooperation.

Clueless Robert
"Can anyone imagine Ronaldus the Great letting 4000 Americans die without enough troops or body armor?"

"Ronaldus never would have stood idly by for three years as Americans died without body armor..."

Myth perpetuated. It didn't happen.

Hunter the Coservative
Father, please forgive me for I have sinned. I have written off Duncan Hunter as unelectable and according to everything I have read or heard about Hunter he IS the consummate conservative.

Seriously, Tom Tancredo & Hunter would have been the ultimate, totally conservative ticket. The only TRULY conservative left is Fred.

Now consider this: The second name on the ticket will be equally important as the first name.

Candidates select running mates for basic reasons:
1. Someone who appears opposite for "balance"
2. Someone who has the same basic ideology
3. Someone from a populas region/state who can bring electoral votes to the ticket.

A good example of this is the JFK-LBJ ticket. Those two hated each other! Yet, JFK selected LBJ as running mate because he could bring electoral votes from Texas and the rest of the South where JFK was despised.

Now, ask yourself (concerning each of the GOP candidates) these questions:
1. If (blank) is selected as the candidate, who will he choose as his running mate?
2. Why?
3. Will the running mate be able to "counter" the nagatives of the candidate?
4. If the candidate is elected and is, for whatever reason, removed from office, how will the VP/Prez govern?

Class dismissed!

Rich D.
"Myth perpetuated. It didn't happen. "

what didn't

Ideal President
My ideal President would be one that concentrates all his activities in 3 areas. National Defense, Appointment of Judges, and managing the National Infrastructure. In his inauguration address, he would read the Constitution and state his intention to stringently comply with its provisions.

Actually
it was our democrat congress that didn't give the troops the funding they needed. and then when they final decide to fund our troops they throw in a bunch of crap in the bill. seems they care for the troops...not!

Fred's "Electability"
Does anyone else see the humor in this?

As conservatives we constantly complain about the MSM and their attempts to control the truth.

Then, just like sheep, a lot of posters in this thread bemoan Thompson's "Unelectability" mostly because the MSM (i'll include FOX here) has told you that he's unelectable.

Are we sheep or are we conservatives?
Are we going to let the press decide our nominee?

Here's an idea, let's "Grow a Pair" and support the one Consistant conservative who can not only bring together the Three Legs of the reagan doctrine, but also bring in the "Blue Dog Democrats" who can't be happy watching the Kos Kidz take over their party.

Reagan did it, and the only one I see this time who can is Fred.

A pair is, to some degree, UNIVERSAL!
A pair that CLANKS WHEN HE WALKS! THAT IS FRED!

P.S.
In some Wal-Mart Aviators, to some SMALL DEGREE! LOL!

RAS CA
Romney is running a strong 2nd in CA now in the latest RAS poll. He is a statistical tie for 1st in the national poll.

The RNC
I was just listening to the pres of the RNC at their yearly convention extolling the pride they have in their 170 million voter profile database, including info purchaced from credit card companies and others who track your spending habits, your travel preferences, your medical condition which can be gleaned from info if you use your credit card to purchace drugs or pay co-pays for specialists with credit.

I don'r know about you but I would think this kind of 'gummit' collection of your personal info is a very big intrusion into my personal life, and very far away from the principle of government non-intrusion.

The uncertainty of a clear 'conservative' republican candidate is a symptom of two things. First, Bush has so destroyed the 'product'-the thing the Republican party has been trying to sell you since Reagan, and 2)the growing reality among traditional Rep. voters that have found their movement very didfunctional when it comes to actual governing FOR the people.

Reagan began the intrinsic infiltration of CORPORATE SOCIALISM. We on the left call it wingnut welfare. We have recognized its growing existence with alarm long ago, and it took Bush junior to shake many Republicans out of the "conservative" image and promises.
The Democratic Party welcomes you, all of you who reject the Rep. talking point that Dems are only TAX and SPEND.

The Republican party is the NO TAX and SPEND.

And worse their welfare goes to those fat cats who don't need it, nor do they use it for the Common good. They ship it Overseas.

WELCOME to the REALITY of the Conservative Party.
Thankyou Junior for being a real conservative.
The conservative party hasn't changed, it never was more than a smoke screen to get your votes to hand over the country's assets to the rich. The stereotype has always been the same. Rich guy with a legal(for the rich)Cuban hanging out of his fat mouth.

Ronaldus
What is with "Ronaldus"? It is almost as annoying as "Arbusto".

Has flyboy Bobbo finally burst a gasket and just lost it? I used to think he was at least coherent, if full of it, but now he sounds completely mad.

I mean, yes, he was a blowhard, but at least coherent and semi-plausible (if you could get past his absurdly inflated claims of experience), but now he sounds drunk when he posts. He doesn't even make sense have the time.

Of course the dems love the troops.
As long as lots of them are dying, they can use them as proxy Victims. We all know just how much the left loves victims.

Of course once the troops started kicking butt and taking names, they became "Heartless killers" to the left.

Anyone read the NYT article about "Killer Veterans"???

If you use a "Preferred customer card" at your supermarket, they sell that info. The RNC (Not a govt. agency by the way) is just being smart.

Why would they waste their time trying to appeal to Liberals? They want to spend their ad dollar wisely and make sure of it by using Targeted Advertising.

Since i've been in the internet ad biz for the past 5 years, I know a little bit about the subject :o)

Nice spin on the subject though, thanks for playing, here's a year's supply of Simonize. :oD

Georgetwin ....

The Union Men are the most ridiculous!

I haven't found a single "open border" Auto worker in Detroit? About 70% are "Very" Pro-gun. 80% fully hate affirmative action! And most despise Welfare as we know it.

These are flat-out Conservative Republicans...

David understands...
People don't see men very often who say what they mean and mean what they say. I was blessed to have a father who did just that, and I could recognize that in FDT right away. He has a deep mind and the ability to express his philosophy in a colloquial manner that cuts through. I will vote for whoever is nominated on the Republican ticket, but I feel we are on the edge of precipice. If we nominate an equivocator or glib politician, we are in deep trouble and the only place left is on our knees for help. We need someone with a backbone.

Some of you
make me nervous. I've been reading remarks regarding the possibility of McCain getting the nomination and you sitting it out. That's just one member of a long ticket, you must vote even if he's the nominee. You don't have to include
him, you can write in Mickey Mouse if you choose.
BUT you must still vote for the down ticket candidates or we are gonna be watching Nancy I love Assad Pelousi and Dingy Harry really going berserk with a veto proof majority. It's not just the Presidency, if we can get back the Congress what's a McCain gonna do?
Besides if you consider someone unelectable, whats so electable about McCain, he's 71 and not in very good health if you ask me; the stress of the campaign is showing on him already. what do you think 4 yr.s in the W.H. will do to him? He's had Melanoma at least twice. I don't like him, but I'm not hoping the worst for him regarding his health, however it's common sense to consider these things.
Remember Woodrow Wilson's last term and FDR's
last couple of terms..neither were well..can we afford that. Not to mention the man can be irrational when crossed, not something I'd want
running this country.
Whatever you do, VOTE for the down ticket if nothing else.

Its all about being fooled by the dems...its how they scoot by each election. There isn't a republican that will seriously call them out! In a debate bring up some things that they have no response to and they will be speechless.

Tea Party
Look at McCain's Jowls and how they have GROWN since about 2000. THIS IS NOT A WELL MAN!

Tea Party
I have thought about that. If McCain gets the nomination you hvae two bad options as conservatives

1. vote for him to avoid dems having all, but you will only push the reps further left and lose your voice a bit more.

2. don't vote for him and give dems all while sending a message to the party they must come back to the right. but you do have the dems with all for at least 2 years.

both aren't good, so lets not let him get the nomination.

That was TownHall
That double posted, NOT ME!

Thompson is no Reagan
Reagan was a great communicator who knew how to talk to the average voter and convince them to vote for a Conservative Republican.

Thompson is a Country Club loving conservative who doesn't know how to connect with the average voter anymore. He doesn't seem to care about people. He doesn't know how to convince people that Conservative principles will make people's lives better. He just reads his lines.

Huckabee/Romney 08
Huckabee/Romney would make an unbeatable Republican ticket in Nov.

Pres. Huckabee is a great communicator who knows how to connect with the average voter and can convince them that the Republican party cares about them. This is how you WIN elections. Reagan did this.

VP Romney is a great businessman and fundraiser. He would bring those valuable skills and his organizational skills to a winning ticket.

CKHustler...

After the quiz told these 2 "Democrats" they were matched to Duncan Hunter,

they had only "one" reply...

"Who the F*** is Duncan Hunter?"

My answer, "The farthest you can get from Hillary".

The Results: 2 Brand new Republican voters :)

Wrong Actor
Fred is just not the actor that's needed in 2008.
Even if the most conservative candidate Fred Thompson wins ( who is only a 0.7 on the Reagan scale) the next administration will be significantly
more to the left than the current one.

JackSavage
No, not yesterday.

Let's add a few more 'curiosities'.
The White House communications were almost completely operating on the RNC accounts. Who paid those bills? The American people or the RNC?
Rhetorical question.
Why RNC accounts? Were they trying to evade the law that restricted any political activities from being conducted on government time or government dimes? Did they succeed in evading the law? Again, rhetorical question.

"Heck-of-a-job BoZo" was not the only political appointee given a job for the Heck-of-a-job they did getting junior elected. This failure of the last seven years is the result of hundreds of political appointments made by the RNC, for the sole purpose of being in positions to erode the protections and regulations that protected not only the people but the balance necessary to prohibit corporate America from being the actual operating government.

Our mortage meltdown is the result of the weakening or overlooling the regs and rules that gave balance and protected the economy of this country from what we are now seeing.
Take the money and run, damn the consequences.

You've heard, of course, about the Telecoms halting their patriotic duty of warrantless wiretapping? Did they stop because they finally realized it was in fact illegal? No they stopped because they weren't being PAID. Very patriotic indeed!!
Corporate America taking over the duties of the government. One symptom of 1930's German government.
Blackwater? Almost as many armed 'private soldiers' as regular army or natl. guard soldiers. Corporate Pentagon. Efficient? Hardly!

Georgetwin ...

Right on both points.

Liberals have jumped through hoops to drug our children into submission... Even with the knowledge that Ritalin leads to future illegal drug use and violence.

McCain is pushing himself too hard. I'll be surprised if something does not give soon.

I wouldn't vote for McCain in the Primary, but put him on the ballot, and I'll crawl through sh** to support him over Hillary.

John Kerry's "purple scratch" cannot hold a candle to McCain's first day in Kindergarten.

Carlos
I'm not so sure about voting for McCain. The rest of the ticket, YES! But there is a move afoot by The MSM to PURGE The GOP of Conservatives. How else do you explain?:

1. The MSM fawning over McLame and Huckleberry. 2. McLame caving on Global Warming & Shamnesty.
3. The Constant Drumbeat of,"Fred/Mitt MUST win in Michigan/SC or THEY'RE THROUGH!"

It took Carter to get us Reagan, so if a RINO heads The GOP Ticket, I’ll have to take a LONG, HARD, LOOK at them. NO MORE RINOS!

Not Evading the law, Following it.

i'm going back about forty years on my math here, but....
"quick quiz- what would the square root of Wobbies credibility be?"
i submit that widdle wobbie could not have a negative number and therefore the square root of that being an imaginary number
a person is judged for credibility by a scale of
zero credibility to 100% credible
since widdle wocket wobbie has Zero credibity,
the square root of Zero is still Zero
kinda like wobbie
at least thats how i remember my math

I'm Gone!

fredo1
Someone already got it. Since he had "negative credibility" he has an "imaginary number" to match his imaginary life.

vic
my point was a person has a credibility scale of Zero credibilty to a 100% credible rating
since wobbie is the lowest rating- ie: Zero
isnt the square root of Zero still Zero
just checking my basic math skill here

prime time
There is simply too much herd mentality among us about electability. We tell ourselves a candidate is not inspiring, then pretty soon we're convinced he's unelectable, and, voila, he almost becomes so."

I don’t think it’s "herd mentality" as much as skepticism in general that's killing us. Much of it duly warranted today. Some people have faced the enemy within and some, including some politicians, have not. Yea doing something about it is a problem, when it gets the prime time and attention it deserves maybe we will.

fredo1
Yes the square root of zero is zero.

IMO only a real conservative...
can win against the Dems in the general because there are just too many of us who will not vote for another RINO.

McCain, Huckabee, Rudy, and Paul are all a no go for me. Hunter and Thompson are the real conservatives in this race and the only ones I can vote FOR. Romney would be the only one I could hold my nose on just so I could vote against the Dem.

I sure am hoping that the Reps in SC get it right!

thanks man
i was starting to worry

Fred's calling on line 1 ... he's on hold.

Its just an election. Despite my protests, life will go on. Principles are certainly commendable. But if I can't have the Cadillac [Romney], can I at least get the Chevrolet [McCain]? Otherwise I could be stuck with an Edsel [Democrat]. That is how I see the Republican nomination fight and November election. I do not "hate" any candidate Democrat or Republican. I fervently disagree with certain policy positions and, in one particular case, seriously dislike the candidate [Hillary Clinton]. I'm sure Obama, Huck, Edwards, Kucinich, Rudy, Mitt and John are great folks to have a beer with. Bill Clinton too!

I still think McCain wins tomorrow, KL.

JackpineSavage
Apologies for the delay. I'm dial-up, and I was also involved with MoumtainRose on another thread. Still shaking my head. She pays 1,000 for a one bedroom and works three free lance jobs. Remarkable. The Republicans have people believing this is an acceptable standard while simultaneously rah-rahing the great tax-cuts for the rich. Well it'll trickle down...someday!
Only a "Great American" would work three jobs just to afford the mortgage, and not complain.

So, the Justice Committee hearings about the States Asst Attn Gens issues revealed the e-mail communications btw the WH and Justice Dept were all on the RNC accts, so admittedly revealing that the Jus Dept was politized by your explanation. Or they spent ALOT of time planning lunch dates.

Never said anywhere Republicans would not get my vote, nor have I said a Dem wouldd either.
However, I will admit there is only one Republican I would consider, and I'm undecided as well as to the Dem top two. Edwards has the message I very much endorce-that the Corporate lobbyists need to stop writing the legislation and handing it over to the Committee Chairs solely for passage. This needs to stop!!!
But after BUsh Junior, we need an exterminator to get rid of the implanted unqualified appointments that are now in every Dept., agency, and cabinet staff offices. This is going to take experience to root them out.
BUSH-Worse than Watergate with none of the remorse.

Thompson lacking
My 20 year old son and I were listening to Fred Thompson on Laura Ingrams show today. My son is very interested in political matters. His comment was "my mind kept wandering when he's talking". That was when I realised that my mind had also been wandering when Fred spoke. Fred is right on the issues. However he does not excite anyone. I believe a vote for Fred in SC is a vote for McCain.

King Liberal
As an aside, I can't understand why conservatives "hate" John McCain. He is an honorable gentleman and a respected Senator. Being a liberal or moderate Republican is not grounds for loathing the last time I looked. I confess that Hillary pushes the bounds of likability, but what the heck has McCain done to inspire such vitriol? He has given dedicated service to his country in Viet Nam and Washington, DC.

Tough crowd....

Romney or Rudy ?

Which one does Bush want?

The more Bush claims to have no horse in the race... The more it looks like he does.

And is Rice standing in the V.P. shadows ?

This race is more fun than a barrel of monkeys :)

suzerose
Well we can agree on one thing anyhow. GWB was basically a loser in my book. His only saving grace is his defense policy. (And he was far from perfect there too)

I'm stuck in dialup hell too (Gotta love living in the sticks) :op Sometimes posting here at TH with the multiple refreshes to see if your post actually got through can be a "Zen" experience.

I do have to question your (lukewarm) support of HillRack Clintwards though. I understand your concern for Mt Rose. but is Government Rent control something you really want?

Rent is high in a lot of places. Mainly because housing costs are so high. This was caused not so much by the "Greedy" lenders, although they played a part. The subprime mortgage mess was caused by far too many people buying more house than they could afford, which drove up cost.

I say let the market forces work. Some lenders will go under or be absorvbed by others, and a few people will lose their homes that they knew they couldn't afford in the first place.

I know a couple peole here that may lose their house. But I also know (Because they told me) that they lied on the credit app to get the houses in the first place.

This isn't a "Crisis", it's Correction. Those happen in a free market.

Thank you, David

for pushing Fred. I have a little perception in these matters, and I think I know why Fred waited longer than others to declare aand is not trying now to jump in the race and do a buck-and-wing tapdance.

Eons ago one of our great leaders admonished his troops to save their amunition and "don't shoot 'till you see the whites of their eyes". It's a long way until the election. Some of these people who think they are big politicos will find they are merely "road-kill" come november.

Fred Thompson has so much to say that is pure gold he needs to despence it wisely, as he alone can do it. Any Republicans who have become wayward need to hear and get back to the fold. Disenchanted democrats need to hear the message and get on this right path. Independants who think they are confused just listen to Fred Thompson and watch the clouds of confusion fade away.

Thompson won't promise any of us anything but he will clear the air for the path we need to follow.

fredo1
you give wobbie way too much credit :P

a zero only? see if he makes a good comment that doesn't bring him to a positive...he has ground to make up for! haha

Carlos
that candidate site has some flaws.

i was strongly with the tax cuts and they had mccain with me on that...and i was against gun control and mccain with me on that too...

he may say he is for those things...but he voted against it...is that a biased site for them as well? :P

Fred Gets My Vote
If Fred Thompson makes it to the Presidential election, he will get my vote.

Suzerose Lost In Envy
Suzerose offers, "Edwards has the message I very much endorce-that the Corporate lobbyists need to stop writing the legislation and handing it over to the Committee Chairs solely for passage. This needs to stop!!!"

Edwards is absolutely disengenuous. He wants caps on CEOs, but offers none for lawyers. Would he be willing to give back his annual revenues beyond $300,000? Of course not. That was his money. He only wants to talk about other peoples money.

As for who writes the bills in Congress, it makes a lot of sense to have people familiar with an industry to write bills that effect that industry. It is nearly impossible to write laws about something one does not understand. That is why educators are involved in education, car makers are involved in car making, physicists are involved in energy and so on.

It makes sense that experts and lobbysists submit their recommendations and law-makers do the editing and correcting. How would you do it?

Huck/Mitt?
A ticket with both Huckabee and Romney in it, sad to say, will be about nothing but religion because the MSM will make it so, and both will still be answering question about religion no matter how hard they would try to discuss other issues.

As a fiscal conservative, I think lower taxes and a strong defense moves the nation, not whether abortion is a national or states rights issue. Let's get the first solved, then the latter.

the candidates - IMO

John McCain - the darling of the MSM and an ally of the Democratic Party. He's a loser.

Rudy G. - What would a Republican have to compromise to get elected mayor of NYC? #2 darling of MSM. He's a loser II.

Mitt - Sure looks good (almost as good as John Edwards). What would a Republican have to compromise to be elected Gov. Of Mass? At best, I am iffy on this guy.

R. Paul - I just don't agree with his foreign policy (or lack of I should say). No.

That leaves Thompson. I was initially FOR Thompson. I liked his writings here on TH. I wanted him to state his case on TV. So far I'm still waiting.

But on the plus side, the MSM is ignoring him (it would be better if they hammered him). Also on the plus side, the likes of Robert, Lilly, and HalD are opposed to him.

That's it. Go Fred. I hope he can hang on until I get a chance to vote in the primaries.

If these are the only choices I have, 1) Thompson, 2) Romney, 3) maybe Huck, 4) hummmm, hmmmm, hmmmm zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Finding Conservatives to Vote for
I see the fact that differnet candidates are winning different states, but I have drawn a mush different set of conclusions. I believe that conservatives are beginning to realize that they do not have to settle on the "most electable" candidate. For one thing, there is no shortage of liberal news media types and even Repulican Committee folks to tell you who is and is not electable. Take for instance the media selecting the "top runners" in the Republican field over a year ago. Unfortunately too many people believed them and have not yet really looked at all of the candidates, so naturally only the most liberal ones seem to be well enough known yet. Or consider the Republican Committee in Iowa defrauding voters and deceitfully hiding their intent to keep out Alan Keyes, the most conservative man in the bunch. We are going to have to take some time to find out who they are for ourselves. I used to buy into the "wasting your vote" arguement, and vote for the "electable [read "compromise"]candidate". I cannot buy it any more. What has it gotten me? Compromised Public Servants. I have come to the conclusion that my vote IS TRULY WASTED if I compromise and elect someone who does not truly embody my values and principles and will not lead the nation in the right direction.

I can not in good conscience vote for Romney, McCain, Guiliani, or Huckabee. I have not completely ruled out hunter or Thompson, but I have good reason to doubt them. I will most likely be voting for Alan Keyes.

Since the news media and the Republican party will not tell you much about him, You can find out more about Alan Keyes at alankeyes.com

To find out more about my reasoning, read my blog at...

LOL on the Zen thing!!!

High rent was not the point. Lack of employment at a reasonable wage, and the lack of jobs available to qualified people, all the while Republicans buying that the economy is doing just great is the thing I do not understand.

And who said anything about rent control? This 'socialism' meme IS an RNC talking point along with 'tax and spend'. Assumptions made regardless of the attempts both successful and un at passing legislation that is paid for.
I'm sure you have noted many people here at TownHall who don't know the dif btw soc., Marxism, or Communism and many times use them intermittingly. Simply to derride H.Clinton.

If one looks at the demographics of the forclosures , it heavily suggests predatory lending. Neighborhood lenders talking soft and dreamily about homeownership. Bush himself has used the word homeownership too many times as to suggest encouragement. Can't remember him once promoting Savings accounts outside of the unrealistic Healthcare accounts.

Market forces: When the FED is encouraging Congress to put cash into play ASAP, hand out cash(!), he's saying the rich have lost confidence and are now being smart with their extra funds and saving. It's not exactly a crisis but far from just a market adjustment. Hence Bernacke suggests giving low/moderate earners cash will be 'more bang' right away as these types(poor, financially immature) will be more likely to spend right away(as opposed to saving) on things like clothes, lawnmowers, things that have broken down and they haven't had the extra money to replace..

Market will not correct when the rich stop spending. Nothing natural about this entire situation.
Very sceptical about the jobless numbers as well. After thirteen months they stop paying, also stop counting!

This is a little less of a 'crisis' but hardly just a market adjustment!

big mick's pledge calling
I'll vote for the first one to take my pledge below. Two exceptions--I won't BELIEVE Huckyou or Mitty even IF they take it until Mitty comes clean on Mormonism's 5 major differences from Main Stream Protestantism, and Huckyou makes a Humiliating Groveling apology for his "nativist" comment that Michelle Malkin outed him on in "Border Cross Dressers."

And I WON'T vote for a GOPper that DOESN'T take it. In that case I will vote for Hillybama figuring SLOW Socialism Lite only poison's me to death more surely and my moron fellow cits MIGHT actually vomit back up Hillbama's Socialism Straight. Worth a Try anyway if the GOPer is practically indistinquishable from Hitlery on the pledge. And if they won't take the pledge they ARE Hillybama Lite. So I have nothing to lose. Hillybama might actually PROVOKE AmRev3.

The Pledge
WIN the War for survival against the Sandnazis on ALL fronts.
DEFEND against the Reconquistas (SEAL the Border, DEPORT ALL Illegals)
RESTORE Constitutionalism by appointing ONLY from a Consensus List of Top Ten Most Strict Constructionist Judges.
REDUCE the size of the FedGov 3% each year of their admin (in real absolute terms, not mere slowed growth)
SECURE my Sacred Franchise with an Iron Clad Fraud Proof voter Registration and ID system.
WIN DEFEND RESTORE REDUCE SECURE
all or nothing, no equivocations, in public and in writing.

Are you listening FRED??? TAKE THE PLEDGE!
