Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Hillary is playing with fire on the race issue. What ground she gained by playing the gender card while denying it, she might lose by playing the race card while denying it.

There is no principle the Clintons pretend to stand for that they will not abandon in pursuit of political power -- power they insist they need to advance those abandon-able principles. So it is with the issue of race.

Until recently, Hillary had employed essentially a two-pronged strategy in her presidential primary campaign. The first was to depict her main opponent, Barack Obama, as an eloquent and gifted speaker but also as a candidate with no experience, no record, no substance and no plan to match his lofty rhetoric. The second, developed out of desperation to staunch her post-Iowa bleeding, was to play the gender card by appealing to women voters through showing her supposedly vulnerable, "human" side.

Now, she has also invoked the race issue, something only a liberal or Democratic candidate would even think about doing. First, she trotted out a well-known African American, Robert L. Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television, to make an unmistakable yet deniable allusion to Obama's self-admitted youthful experimentation with drugs.

On the stump with Clinton in Columbia, S.C., Johnson said, "To me, as an African American, I am frankly insulted that the Obama campaign would imply that we were so stupid that we would think Hillary and Bill Clinton, who have been deeply and emotionally involved in black issues since Barack Obama was doing something in the neighborhood -- and I won't say what he was doing, but he said it in the book ... "

This isn't just significant because it's the second time a high-profile Clinton ally used the drug-smear against Obama. It's about more than drugs. It's also a subtle effort to steal black voters from Obama by having a prominent black endorse Hillary's theme that she was actually working on issues important to blacks, while Obama was otherwise predisposed. All the while, Hillary pretends to be an innocent bystander.

Next, Hillary refined her race strategy further by allowing an unspoken racial component to loom large in her awkward reference to the respective contributions of Martin Luther King Jr. and President Lyndon B. Johnson to the civil rights movement.

Hillary said that MLK's dream of racial equality was realized only when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This tied in perfectly to Hillary's campaign theme contrasting her supposed experience with Obama's empty, unproven rhetoric.

But is it merely an innocuous coincidence that in Hillary's allusion, both MLK and Obama are African Americans and LBJ and Hillary are the white people who are presumably necessary to get things done? Why else would she choose the MLK and LBJ example? Hillary might be insensitive, but she's not tone deaf.

I am truly not trying to be provocative or incendiary here, and it's sad that we even have to raise these questions, but it's entirely appropriate given the Democrats' insistence on playing identity politics and the Clinton's history of utilizing unconscionably dirty tactics born of cold political calculations.

The likelihood of coincidence is further reduced by what followed. When the press started asking her about her MLK/LBJ statement, she immediately accused the Obama campaign of injecting racial tension into the contest. Yet Obama forces, as far as we know, hadn't yet responded to her statement.

"This is an unfortunate story line the Obama campaign has pushed very successfully," she said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "I don't think this campaign is about gender, and I sure hope it's not about race."

But you'll note that Obama had not used the race card against Hillary. Hillary brought up the subject herself and then falsely accused Obama of having raised it so that she could deftly "respond" and perhaps neutralize his presumed race advantage with Democratic voters.

Hillary was employing a tactic I'll call preemptive, pro-active political Jiu-Jitsu. The art of Jiu-Jitsu involves using an attacker's energy against him rather than directly opposing it. But Hillary modified the Jiu-Jitsu technique by fabricating her opponent's attack so that she could react and score points -- on race.

She used the same modified Jiu-Jitsu approach in New Hampshire in appealing to women. She skillfully exploited the near-tear moment to show her human side and then falsely accused mostly unnamed men of sexism for saying she looked weak and unpresidential (who said that?), thereby appealing to women for solidarity against this largely fictitious attack.

But employing this tactic on race is far riskier and might backfire against this very white former first lady, even if she is married to the "first black president."

Liberal Racism in the way
Rudy can’t even get a message out as the press is too busy covering for the liberal racism on display in the Clinton camp and Liberal politics at large.

And they call themselves the party for minorities–we kew all along!

I don’t say this lightly, as I was a young liberal once. The biggest reason for my defection was the conclusion I came to:

The Democratic Party claims to speak for blacks, but (ironically) that is just what they had in mind. Just as Hillary told us this week that LBJ was more responsible for the passing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act than were the marchers, the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s held many black communities mute. It was almost as if the Dems were saying, ” We’re gonna give the foundations and organizations as much money as we can, and they’ll be with us.” What they meant was ‘beneath us.’ It wasn’t conservatives who said ‘blacks can’t do it alone,’ it was liberals. It wasn’t conservative who said blacks need special education, ebonics, a slower pace…it was liberals.

Question: If Hillary was as civil rights oriented as she would loves us to believe she was, then why does her campaign refer to her as the single-most qualified person in America to be President?

Doesn’t she believe there are blacks more qualified than she?

Doesn’t she believe there are Hispanics more qualified than she?

Asians?

Lesbians and gays?

I say it in song with my tune ‘Hillaryous,’ and 11 other in-your-face political songs at www. conservativemusiconline.com

Duplicate of Murchison post
The Lamocrats have been playing identity politics, otherwise known as the “race card” for so long they don’t know how to do anything else. That is why he have the current brouhaha going between Hillary and Obama. If you think it is bad now, just wait until we have the actual election since it is likely that either Hillary or Obama will get the nod. When the race is between a woman or a black against a white male Republican the press will unleash the dogs.

Until the liberal white community stops listening to the race baiters like Sharpton and Jackson we are going to have people stirring the pot. This last flap is really one of PC BS with no real substance. Hillary said that LBJ had more influence in passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than MLK and the race baiters came out in droves. The fact is, without either person the act would not had been passed, at least in 1964 anyway. King started the drive and LBJ who was the expert in getting what he wanted through congress pushed it through.

I however find it amusing that the Lamocrats are now getting some of their own medicine.

But What's The Difference?
Democrats have already shown during the Jenifer,Paula, Juanita, I didn't Inhale, I didnt have Sex Lies, the Looting of the White House, The purchased Pardons, The lies of bill about Opposing the War, the Illegal Aliens and Felons voting that they don't care if the clintons are lying, cheaating, stealing and committing Purgery by lying to a Federal Judge and Grand Jury or ANYTHING ELSE, its OK just so long as it's the Clintons. For them, Rules Don't Apply!

And what you write is just the short list. Think of how many more crimes we'd know of if all those people of the the klintoons' unfortunate acquaintance, who mysteriously died, were still free to talk let alone those an adversarial media would have uncovered.

The klintoons are a genuine fascist crime family and we are in serious trouble if they ever make it back into the WH.

Fabricating attacks to score points
"But Hillary modified the Jiu-Jitsu technique by fabricating her opponent's attack so that she could react and score points -- on race."

You'd be hard-pressed to convince me that Hillary's campaign didn't stage the "Iron my shirt" disruption at her talk in New Hampshire. Disrupting speeches with inane chanting is a tactic of the left, not the right. Furthermore, it does not mirror the serious opinions of any conservative I know--but it does conform to the left's caricatured view of the right. Nobody has identified the bozo who disrupted her. I would think the press would have been eager to find out (if it hadn't been staged). Methinks a pattern is developing here. Hillary is finding her voice, and it turns out she's a ventriloquist.

JESU CHRISTO!
Could you have run a worse picture David? Crom's blood, how about a warning next time?

You might try Stormwatch or the KKK. Here we're conservatives, not bigots.

Bye-bye wingnut.

Interesting point. On a related note, I read (believe it or not, in an op-ed by a liberal) that the lady who asked Hilary the famous "How do you get up and move forward every day?" "And be so wonderful?" query that prompted the Hilary moment was some sort of Democrat operative who had some kind of previous connection with the Clintons. Would like to know the truth. However, we'll probably never really know because the press probably senses that the answers to these questions might not reflect well on Hilary. Accordingly, these are not appropriate avenues for further investigation.

Hitlary
playing the race card? Say it ain't so?

Limbaugh made a slightly incorrect
Statement. In her speeches, if I heard corredtly, Hill said that Johnson signed the civil rights legislation not passed it as Limbaugh said. She was trying to give the Dem party credit for the act when they didn't deserve it. She appeared to ignore the fact that most souther Dems, being the good racists they were, voted against it and it only passed because the majority of Republicans voted for it.

Nice try, Hill but there are too many people out here with good memories who spread the facts.

Actually
it's been republicans that have had more to do than Democrats on Civil Rights.
In 1957, President Eisenhower sent Congress a proposal for civil rights legislation. The result was the Civil Rights Act of 1957, the first civil rights legislation since Reconstruction. The new act established the Civil Rights Section of the Justice Department and empowered federal prosecutors to obtain court injunctions against interference with the right to vote. It also established a federal Civil Rights Commission with authority to investigate discriminatory conditions and recommend corrective measures. The final act was weakened by Congress due to the lack of support among the Democrats.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 would not have passed had it not been for overwhelming support from the Republican Party.

Whose the real racists?

Kraut
You know the liberals, their ability to lie is only surpassed by their ability to steal from us.

the clinton's
with the clinton's the ends always justify the means. They will say whatever they think people want to hear. They will promise everything they think will buy them votes. They will use whoever is handy and then toss them away when they have served their purpose. when the end game is power over others nothing is off limits to reach that goal. That the willing dupes on the left continue to buy into the clinton fantasy that they are the answer to all of america's problems baffles reality. With the clinton's all that matters is the clinton's and their pursuit of power.

wildwest
"That the willing dupes on the left..."

H*ll, some of them buy into that schlock that Obambi is putting out and still others believe in The Breck Girl!

Clearly liberals stop mentally developing around age 12.

GunnyG, SSGT, Vic
Good morning, all!

If anything, Mrs. Clinton has shot herself in the foot, again. IMO, she can't run on being a minority, nor can she pander openly to the AA vote. Obama neutralizes both prongs of attack. So what's left? "I'm a woman, hear me roar, unless I'm weeping...!" I watched the interview in which she said it wasn't about race or gender, yet when speaking, she managed to bring it up more than a dozen times, each!! She doesn't have the gift of gab her hubby does!

ylg
but the missus clinton told some airhead talk show host she has a secret dream of being a model. There is the old saw about a silk purse out of a sows ear but there aren't enough make over artists willing to take on this task and even fewer who would think they could be successful.

wildwest
But think of all the CGI artists out there looking for a "Mona Lisa" for their portfolio!! With a little help from her friend George Lucas, and his team at Industrial Light and Magic, she can be the next Heidi Klum!!

Besides, she can't afford the sow's ear plan, or PETA would be on her faster than flies on meadow muffins.

YLG
I agree but I WANT the Hildabeast to win the nom (she will anyway because party-owner Soros wills it) since at last poll, a large number of Dems will not vote for her!

Thompson 08.

ylg
in the spoof movie, epic movie, one of the characters tells the girl spoofing one the x men characters who is a shape shifter that he wants her to have a ghetto booty and grandma arms. She complies and rather than a dream we see a nightmare. We know the missus clinton has the ghetto booty and I would guess she also has the grandma arms. Perhaps this is someone's idea of real fantasy and that heidi klumm is a turn off. I have met the occaisional male who has told me they find the missus clinton hot. My first questions always inquire how long have they been out of prison and have they spent too much time in the men's shower

wildwest
Surely you jest!

A MODEL?

For what? A "How-to" book on cramming two hams and a pork butt into a pantsuit three sizes to small!?

GunnyG
So do I, and my hubby says it would be great if it were Romney vs. Mrs. Clinton, since it would tear up the women's vote!!

But, we are pulling for Fred!!!

Dang it, wildwest!!
That last line should have a "spew alert" warning!!

Grandma arms? Ghetto booty? OML, you are KILLING me!!

She's a fraud
of the first degree. She will do ANYTHING FOR A VOTE. In this case the race card has lost her votes. Hurray!!!!!!!

YLG
You know my stance. Fred is on my ballot as a vote or a write-in for the vote.

NO MORE RINOS!

Fred 08!

YLG
"YO" sista! Its a balmy 19*/w/chill 5*. That "S" word is rearing its ugly face as well. I don't know which is the most ugly, the Hildabeast, or the "S" word.

astro-puke
strike at any more death ridden folks, you class-less PUKE! Common, scum, I know you have more in ya today!

SSGT
Dang, Miss Scarlett is happy to be here, where it is a wonderful 55* with drizzle!

Mrs. Clinton wins that contest, hands down. Oh, and don't you mean astroglide??

If Hillary is the best the Dems. have
the Reps. look better all the time.

Nothing the Clintons say ever means anything. What lie have they not told?

Obama has nothing to talk about because he's never done anything but vote "present" and now he's missing so much of the senate, he's not even present to vote "present."

Edwards is, just forget it.

Clinton Spins War Vote!
The only problem with Hillary’s answer is she was given the intelligence report that warned her about the issues of going into Iraq and she claims she did not read it before voting to send troops into war. Also Clinton blaming Hagel is also a false story!

Edwards? He is still hanging on? I thought he quit, and threw his support to Kerry...

YLG
no, no, no, Miss Scarlett. Didn't Skerry give his support to his old running mate, Skedwards! Oh, thats right. The Dem-o-laps back stab each other as much as they do the nation. Silly me. I thought somehow they could show some loyalty!

SSGT
Why, darlin', don't you know that "loyalty" is one of the dems' four-letter words??!! First Lieberman, then Edwards, and I wonder who will be next....

It's almost like a "Murder, She Wrote" episode...

Playing With Fire
HRC is already polling very low with Blacks (Obama has a 60-30 lead). By playing race politics, HRC opens up a Pandora's Box she will not be able to close -even if she gets the nomination. One of the givens in presidential elections is that the Blacks will go 70-75% in the Democrats favor. By taking on Obama, she risks not only the Black vote, but the Black turnout.

A liberal black candidate like Obama presents real problems for white liberals. Obama flanks HRC from the left in almost all major issues. HRC cannot go farther left without risking her electability when the general election comes. Playing the Race Card could jepordize HRC's chances not only in urban states like Pennsylvania, but also rural states like Mississippi. Splitting the Black Vote could also eventually break the stranglehold the Dems have on minorities. Old time civil rights activists like Sharpeton and Jackson would no longer hold captive audiences. If you can divide an organization once, you can do it again and again and again. The Democrats may just regret they ever heard the names Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Peace.....
I heard this morning that Obama and Hillary have agreed to a ceasefire on race-baiting tactics. Now that Obama is polling far ahead of Hillary for the black vote I'm sure he was happy to make that deal. However, if he honestly thinks the Clintons are done with their typical tactics....

On another note, seriously, when are black Americans going to realize they are being played for fools by the democrat party?

SSgt
I'd refrain from responding to Astro "Boy" (using the term boy loosely) since all he's craving is attention which he can't get in real life.

YLG/SSGT
Good morning all. It was a balmy 23°F here at sunrise in SC. States with "South" in their name should not have that (be quite South Dakota).

I would move further South but Albore promised me some Globull Warmin' and I'm waiting on it.

As for Shrillary watch what happens in Michigan. The word around the net is that since the Dems rigged the election their for Shrillary the white people who don't like her are voting for McShame on the Republican side and the black people are voting for Huckleberry. The word is that Romney is actually leading McShame 60/30 amoung Republicans and the Lamocrats voting across the line are what is boosting McShame.

YLG
"Dang, Miss Scarlett is happy to be here, where it is a wonderful 55* with drizzle"

The more you talk about how nice it is in Texas, the more I miss it. Got some friends from Texas coming up to go skiing. They'll be surprised at how much snow is on the ground. Supposed to get some snow today but just some showers. Will only be 21 for high tommorrow with low around 5. UGH!!!

Icedog: a response

I's say the answer is as soon as white conservative americans realize they are being played for fools by the republican party.

JPK
Kudos on your post, you may very well be right. It's one thing for dems to use race against repubs, but it opens a new can of warms when dems believe they must start using these cheap and dishonest tactics against each other.

However, no one should really be surprised. Libs could never win an election based purely on their policies and ideals, so they have resorted to using the race, gender, class, etc. "cards" to win elections for the last 40+ years. When faced with possible defeat, the Clintons simply resorted to the natural liberal fallback position....the fact it is directed at another carbon coby liberal doesn't really matter.

I've always
been a big Thompson fan but with his poll ratings so low I don't think he'll be around very much longer. After that I have no Idea who to pull for although I'll probably go for Romney if Thompson is not on the ballot on Super Tuesday.

Dem Estab Hillary
Short of just pull'n out of this race...The Establishment Candidate, Hillary will be the candidate. The old say'n you can't beat City Hall, well in this case you ain't gonna beat HRC. The establishment of power broker's and power ball leadership...have too much invested in this candidate...the deal was made and sealed the day she moved out of the WH and started her campaign in NY to pump up her resume...albeit, was a scarry fluke with Obama winn'n Iowa. Hillay is secure and knows the mover's and shaker's in the Democrats good ol' boy club through the state delegate leaders, will take care of where they need to win and by how much...they will meet those goals. Obama handler's that in the past were with Hillary are doing an admirable job gett'n as much positive exposure Obama has enjoyed up until now but, they also know the Clinton's are just play'n with em right now...it is gonna get a lot hotter for Obama.

OMG!
Left dAngle's stunning reply to Icedog:

"I's say the answer is as soon as white conservative americans realize they are being played for fools by the republican party."

Yeah, they're really playing us for fools, lowering our taxes, pushing for smaller government and less taxes (Bush 43 is a RINO, we know that), a strong military, etc.

Maybe you can try grunting next time to form a more coherent libthought.

Left Angle
Maybe your right....history as shown that countries with socialist liberal governments and extensive government control have done so well...wth was I thinking?

It figures...

A friend who likes to "call Vegas" told me the odds of the candidates in Michigan. Mrs. Clinton does not have good odds. McCain has almost even odds for the Republicans, but Romney is an "unquantifiable" because of name recognition.

Oh, for the days when people only bet on horses...

As for the Globull Warming, well, good luck with that!

YLG
Hillary has to win because she is the only one on the ballot for the Dems. Obama and Edwards have pulled their names.

Vic
Thought you might have heard something about BmanIII. He used to post here quite often but haven't seen him post for awhile.
Can't believe it's that "cold" in South Carolina this morning.

Vic
If I remember right didn't the DNC punish the state of Michigan for moving their primary date up and isn't that the reason Edwards and Obama are not on the ballot?

Morning YLG/sheepdog/Vic/Gunny, Icedog.
I had occasion to exchange emails this morning with Chris, a TH moderator.
Nice guy. Needless to say, TR was part of the conversation. Let's see.

MotleyCrue
Oh, it was successful! I saw at Burt's column that Chris requested t r get in touch with him. I can almost see the evil grin on your visage...

Highly Succesful??? in a pigs eye

$11 Trillion spent on war on poverty and still haven't made a dent in it in over 40 years. At the rate that's going, the situation in the ME will be resolved and we'll still be fighting the war on poverty.

Social Security- a Ponzi scam that will go bankrupt by 2040. I'll be 80 then but hopefully I won't have to depend on it

If throwing money at a problem could solve everything, we'd be living in a utopia right now.
But liberals (and RINO's as well) believe if we keep doing the same thing over and over again we'll get different results.

Hopefully, her last contortion will be to bend over, put her head between her legs and kiss her a$$ GOODBYE!

Yeah it was cold. I am not sure what has happended with Bman. He may have got sent to Siberia again and he may have also been chastised for spending so much time on here from work.

He did post a couple of times in the evening a few weeks ago but haven't heard much since.

And yes the DNC "punished" them by taking half of their delegates. Obama and Edwards pulled out of the vote but Hillary didn't. The Republicans should have done something also because now the Lamocrats and Independents (who always vote Lamocrat in MI) will go over to the Republicans primary to vote. That is what the actual interviews on those polls are showing.

Most of McShame's support is coming from Democrats and Independents. The blacks stated on TV the other night that they were going to vote for Huck.

YLG
Usually if "none of the above" was on a multiple choice question test, 9 times out of 10 that was usually the right answer.
I visit the Detroit News website (I'm a big Detroit Redwings and Tigers fan) and read the comments from the political forums. Alot of the posters were not happy that Granholm got re-elected. She has screwed up that states economy in more ways than one. Of course the automobile industry has been in a funk for the last few years but still you would think that becuase of the situation it would help the Republicans.

To All
I have to go into town so will be gone for a few hours.

On the AC thread the other day I went over and read a few entries and left because I knew I would get into trouble if I stayed on that thread.

I beg to differ with you. If Hitlary bent over far enough forward, she would fall head first to the ground because her back could not support the weight of that noggin that rests on the shoulders of the Hildabeast.

Actually they can't "Scuttle" them thanks to the socialist Warren Supreme Court. The only way they can "Scuttle" them is to slow the rate of spending. Also the only people who go nuclear are the people who actually depend on government welfare for a living. You know the ones who can physically work but don't want to i.e. lazy

How in Hades did that woman get elected?? Does Michigan want to be pitied? As for the auto industry, h3ll, the union has screwed that up as best it could...

I didn't think I would ever, EVER, disagree with you on anything, but, I'm an Edmonton Oilers gal...!!

go far beyond just welfare..and i hope you remember what happened when Newt Gingrich shut down the government a few years back. you repubs/cons keep arguing for less government

Now Chris is asking sophie to get in touch with him regarding her status on TH. Did you have something to do with that, too?

Holy cow, I'm turning into my mom....

Edmonton Oilers!!!! I'd thought living in Texas you'd be a Dallas Stars fan.

I'd have to agree with you about the unions..If the unions and management could not agree to work together to solve the companies problems, then the only thing that can happen is lose money every year. You know American Airlines is the only major Airline that didn't declare bankruptcy after 9/11 becuase there union and management agreed that if they didn't work together the company would go under. Amazing story about what they did to avoid going under.

Left Angle
"keep arguing for less government

Thats my point..Less government does work if you didn't have so many people dependent on it.

Maybe that is perhaps every time something gets cut the MSM trots out a few kids and widows to show how this will hurt people that need help. Funny how they never show investigative reports to demonstrate all the able-bodied layabouts on the federal teat. Most people don't have the time or inclination to investigate any further. It takes time and perseverance to wake up and realize that the MSM is not impartial.

YLG
"Astroglide"? Yowza! I'll take my YLG with hot sauce, please.....

sheppdog
The only thing I like about Dallas is the fact that Lumberjack hails from that area.

Don't like the Cowboys, the Stars, the Mavericks, and only marginally like the Rangers.

I remember the news stories about AA avoiding bankruptcy, and how SHOCKED the MSM was about it. One Dallas-area affiliate was interviewing a union rep, asking how does this affect the union (not the workers, mind you). She was speechless when the rep said without the airline, there's no union. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

CVN65
Well, since you are a physician, you would know what I'm talking about!

As for the hot sauce, I'm spicy enough without it... ;-)

YLG
Since you are NOT a Cowboys fan, you are OK in my book. I love that their season ended with a Romo mistake-again! Poor Jessica will be heartbroken once someone explains the final score to her!

YLG.
Nope. TR was the only one discussed. But Chris was already aware of TR and his shenanigans, so whatever happens I really can't claim it was my doing. Sophia, on the other hand, is quite amusing and sometimes makes thought-provoking points. I happen to get a kick out of her.

Good morning, YLG. Thanks for the compliment. I decided to visit this thread after seeing the idiocies on the Prager thread, and the Rockhead J. Squirrel infestation onthe other threads of interest.

Had my first classes at DCCCD last night, and boy does that three hour class get long. I will say that I received several compliments from my students about how unbiased my lecture was. Even better I have repeat students in both classes. That is they had me for either the course, and wanted me as an instructor for the other course. So I'm feeling pretty good about that.

As far as sports teams go, I'm not much of a pro sports fan, but I do love my college sports. I'd rather watch a good college football or basketball game, than any pro game any day of the week.

CVN65
We were talking about the odds on a TO meltdown this spring. It is almost a sure thing that TO will "throw Romo under the bus", as he has done this to every quarterback.

But why should Romo care? He's got JESSICA!! Makes him look GOOD!!

MotleyCrue
I'm pulling for her....I sent her a post about it, and I hope it's not bad news. She's still here, so maybe there is hope!!

Lumberjack7392
That's fantastic! It's sad when students actually realize a class is unbiased, and they comment on it.

I tend to agree on the college sports where football and baseball is concerned, but NCAA basketball is such a headache for me.

BTW, you should post your lectures up on the school website, so some of us can take the class, too!!

I bet you also credit Clinton with welfare reform....e.g. when the government managed to peel a couple of your fellow "dem supporters" off the federal teat

I learned to love basketball at SFA in the early 70s. The football team sucked, but the Lumberjack basketball team was awesome, and made the NAIA playoffs annually. Hate to tell you this, but in those days the 'Jacks went to G. Rollie White, and whipped the Aggies butts annually. It got so bad A&M cancelled the series to avoid the embarassment of being beaten by "small school."

I would love to post my lectures, but other than the photos, maps, DVDs, CDs, charts, and other multimedia materials I use, there are no notes. I do not need them for my lecture. Suffice it to say that impresses the hell out of my History Co-Ordinator, and my Dean.

Lumberjack7392
I'm not surprised...there was a time when the Aggies kissed their dates when our team got a first down instead on a touchdown!!

As far as the lectures, I'll take the crumbs...or better yet, put it on a blog!!

I'll give it a try, after I get through all the legal and familial hassles which arose after my parents' deaths.

I'm waiting for Rockhead J. Squirrel to arrive, and state that he could do a much better job teaching my classes. Good grief, could you imagine the turgid prose, and misinformation, that would arise if that happened?

Lets see how much anti-Southern bigotry is in that statement. Most good ole boys I know would not take welfare, poor they be, but they have pride in supporting themselves. Left Angle, I suspect that when it comes to sucking on the government tit, you are an expert at it.

Don't be too sure about Hal and Roberto missing that 5th Grader question. My son's high school in MD is teaching some seriously revised history.

I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this on a current test:

1. Most pilgrims left Europe and came to America because________

A. They wer rich white conservatives trying to avoid paying their fair taxes.

B. They wanted to exploit and kill the peaceful Native Americans.

C. They wanted to build an imperialist military to conquer and enslave the world.

D. All of the above.

Left Angle
Let me remind you of a few facts:

FACT: In Clinton's '92 campaign he promised to "end welfare as we know it."

FACT: After Clinton took office, he never said another word about welfare reform until the Republicans took control of Congress in '94.

FACT: Clinton vetoed two welfare reform bills drafted by the Republican Congress.

FACT: Clinton only signed welfare into law because it was forty days before the '96 election, and he worried that the issue was hurting his poll numbers.

lumberjack: a response.
it isnt anti southern bigotry..Its just the truth. whites outnumber blacks on welfare.
where do you think most of those whites are located? the rural south would be where, just as
most blacks on welfare are from the inner cities.

he was famous for doing that. i think they called it triangilization. dick morris

Icedog
One note: I detest the term "Native American" . That is complete bull! That term confers ownership of a continent that the Europeans stole. I could agree with "First Americans" or "Earliest Americans"- they were the first to permanently settle here BUT they also came from somewhere else. They did not evolve here independently from all other humans. So they were here first, for whatever that is worth. That is simply not enough to grant them ownership status in perpetuity.

Georgetwin
My guess is those are two most recognizable names on TH. I'll bet if Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, or Michael Savage ever wrote articles on here I can gauarantee the TH website would be overun with liberal vermin.

Still breathing, which beats the alternative.

Left Angle: I am still waiting for that middle class tax Wee Willie Weinie Wagger promised. One thing is certain, if it did not happen when he was POTUS (in fact just the opposite), it's a dead bang certainty that we won't get one from his wife, the Wicked Witch of Chappaqua. We will get the same thing he gave us.

Left Angle
"i think they called it triangilization."

The term was "triangulation", which sounds much nicer than "flip-flopping."

I agree Clinton was good at taking credit for someone else's achievements. During the 1994 elections, he railed against the Republican "Contract With America." After the Contract proved to be popular, Clinton acted as though it were his own idea from the start.

You may call it "triangulation." I say Clinton was "looking out for number one."

In fact, leftangle is correct in that Clinton got the credit, although the more accurate term is STOLE the credit. Clinton did this repeatedly during the Gingrich Congress. He would resist all the Republican Congressional proposals until the bitter end (when polls told him which way to blow), then sign the bills and convince Americans - with the help of the MSM - that these programs were HIS ideas. Gingrich, being an academician rather than a greasy lawyer, as most of his fellow politicos are, was very unskilled at playing the political game, always picking the wrong fights and caving in on the right ones. It was no hard feat for the liberal establishment to send him packing within four years.

Actually that phrase originated with Thomas Pain. Thoreau paraphrased it for his book. Just like the original American liberal he was guilty of plagerism.

Back in the early 80s, I served on USS Decatur DDG-31, and we got the honor of plane guarding the Enterprise. The ironic thing about the Decatur was that she began life as an Edson Class DD, but after being hit by a carrier and nearly having her entire superstructure peeled off, she was rebuilt with a MK 13 Missile launcher aft and an ASROC box admidships. Given her history Captain Mills was real, real careful when we plane guarded.

As for what is going on in Michigan, it’s not really a primary. Hillary is the only one on the ticket in MI on the Demo side so all the people who can’t stand her are going over to split their vote between McShame and the Huck.

Rush reaches 20,000,000 a week
and I guess with King Liberal, he just reached 20 million and one. When Everbody Loves Raymond was on, it garnered c. 20 million viewers a week as the number 1 tv show. That is an estimation of Rush' effect on the pop.

Racism of the baby boomers? The baby boomers were the first freedom riders, gave their lives in Mississippi, fought in Vietnam, marched against Vietnam, and have seen more change and brought aboutb than you can imagine.

Obama offers NO CHANGE. His ideas are ALL 19th C. socialistic theories that the Dems. have been trotting out since FDR in the 1930s.

More taxes, more gov't, less personal freedom, less personal responsibilty, and "uniting" eveyrone except, of course, not Reps. and not conservatives, is CHANGE?

Even if they don't all vote and aren't all politicallky involved, just the evangelicals and Catholics make up 1/2 the electorate (50%).

"Young people" (under 34) make up 7% of the voting public. Kerry got 75% of them. Gore got 73% of them. Did either win an election?

Young voters do not determine general elections, altho' because of the limited numbers involved, they can skew a primary here and there.

But it's ok with me. I hope the Dems. run Obama. He has two terms in the IL leg. mostly voting "present" and has an unfinished, and undistinguished, US senate tenure where he is so often absent he can't even vote "present" as is his wont. If he were a white guy, he would be laughabble as a candidate.

King Liberal
"the only people fanning the flames of race are you conservatives

Your lack of historical knowledge is scary. If it wasn't for the Republican party, Jim Crow laws might still exist in the South.

As for the Democrats winning in 08, thats a matter of opionion but I will say this.

If you like fact that government will become an ever increasing part of your life than vote Democrat.

If you think that raising taxes to solve the nations problems is the best thing to do than vote Democratic.

If you think that the WOT is a joke and that once we capture Bin laden the WOT will be over than vote Democrat.

As for me, if a Democrat is elected, I'll deal with it. I'll wait till 2012 and see what the country looks like. Chances are we'll probably be a heck of alot worse off if we inherit the Socialist agenda of the Democratic party.

Your Leftist Majesty ...
I think you are largely correct, at least in one sense. People like Rush/Mike Moore are essentially preaching to a choir and have virtually no real chance of moving public opinion ... at least in the sense of changing anyone's mind on any given issue. It is equally true that Rush is usually right and Moore is a retarded walrus. Ergo ... Rush is preaching truth to a choir of truth seekers. Moore is preaching stupidity to a choir of retarded walrus wanna-bes.

just back from the first classes I have attended since grad school. Have decided to become a docent at the botanic gardens here. They say they are looking for those who like to talk and feel at ease around visitors. My wife told them at the sign up they don't know what they are in for with me. No respect from home either. Just watched some news about exit polls in michigan. In the dims and from the black voters, the missus clinton gotr less than 30% and mr uncommitted got 66%. It appears thjat she can't win against a non-candidate.

just learned something new from jesse jackson. He was discussing both oblahma and the missus clinton. He said they are team members on the same team and need to work together. He looked serious but I guess jesse don't understand the competitive nature of politics, nor does he understand the clinton's. The missus clinton claims she enjoys destroying her opponents.

Hey! Great minds think alike! I'm thinking of becoming a docent at the zoo. I thought about our botanical gardens, but plants just fear me. Then I briefly entertained the idea of being a docent at the art museum, but their version of "art" is slightly different than mine....

Well folks it is time to

the botanic gardens here are a world class museum. They specialize in cacti and succulents. Check dbg.org. My wife and I go there every week to do some of our walking exercise. They told us volunteers out number staff 10-1. If you ever get to phoenix you will have to visit. Oddly though the gardens are next door to the phoenix zoo. I now have another 40 hours of classwork to finish and everything points to a very satisfying experience.

It'll be interesting to see how
Mrs. Clinton reacts to losing Michigan to Mr. Uncommitted. Tears, yes, in abundance. Stamping her feet, absolutely. Hell knoweth no fury like Hillary scorned. I'd hate to live in Michigan if she becomes president.

i had heard that heinz/kerry was really amazed the edweirds would tell him a story with all kinds of sincerity, only to retell the same story at a later date with equal sincerity as though it was a new story. Supposidly the heinz/kerry's were not impressed with edweirds lack of real intelligence. And that comes from someone who himself is not necessarily the sharpest crayon in the box.

It is not so much that Ann Coulter is revered by us on the right, as that most people with any sense of decency will not rejoice in another's loss and ensuing pain. I myself despise the Clintons and everything they stand for, yet I would find it unseemly and distasteful to celebrate the death of one of their loved ones. Evidently there are some on the left who are not just low class, but of no class whatsoever.

the talk here in ariz was that gov napolitano was auditioning for atty gen.in a clinton admin. But now that napolitano has endorsed obahma that probably is no longer a viable choice. Early talk indicated the current lt gov of ohio was heading up a possible vp choice

" I'd hate to live in Michigan if she becomes president"

If you want an example of what it will be like if Clinton is President look no further than the state of Michigan. The people of Michigan re-elected a Democrat when the state was going into recession and it's only gotten worse.

Greetings, sheepdog/wildwest.
My brother lives in Michigan, has done since the day he stepped off the boat in 1948. Worked all his life for Johnson Bros, a company that built the rotunda's for car shows all over the country. He's retired now and tells me that there is not a union job to be had in Michigan due to the vast influx of illegal workers from south of the border. A lifelong democrat, he's now wondering what went wrong. I try to tell him, but I sound too partisan. He'll have to figure it out for himself.

the problem is how are these people ever going to escape from the disaster of michigan. My wife's sister is approaching retirement, would like to leave but is worried her employer will find ways to cancel what is left of her promised pension. There is absolutely no market for houses so there are seemingly no options for enjoying the golden years everyone thought retirement would be.

As much as I hate to say it, GWB was a disaster most of us didn't see coming. We conservatives were given a choice between McCain and Bush, and I for one chose Bush. I thought I'd made the correct choice after 9/11, but since then he has turned into a one-man wrecking crew of the American economy and job market. Sadly, I don't see any candidate on the right who can do better, other than possibly Romney, especially if he puts Thompson on the ticket.

Looks like Romney takes MI. :-)

Hillary wasn't
using jui-jitsu, she was merely employing the tactic of lying, which most Democrats seem to fall for hook, line and sinker.

I think the problem with president bush his failure was caused by several factors. I don't think he really understood what was expected of him as president. He faced nothing but obstruction from the dims that were aided by the msm who continually talked about what a failure he was. But I think he really failed to use the bully pulpet. He really failed to keep the public informed about what was going on and really failed to convince them his course of action was something they would rally behind. I thought that when the shamnesty failed due to outrage from the public he would take that as a signal and try to fashion a domestic legacy by getting tough on the illegal issue and border protection. He failed to get the message and effectively decided at that point to begin his retirement. When congress can't get anything done the public is better off as congress generally isn't passing bad legislation and may actually be wasting less money. But when the president stops being effective the country loses direction. But bush has not been the first president not to measure up and despite the dims failed memory bubba also failed to pass muster.

Re Economy: Today the Dow fell 278 points. Today CitiBank announced that it lost, what was it, $20 billion? Today a friend told me he paid for the college textbooks for a boy he mentors through his church, and three (3) textbooks cost $600. Today I went to buy some grapes to make apple salad. Cost of grapes was $5.99 lb, the highest price for grapes I have ever seen in my life: I skipped the grapes. Gas here is $3.79. Tonight a friend told me she needs dental implants and cost estimates range around $15,000; she has no dental insurance and will have to pay cash. She has her apartment on the market and can skim the implant money off the top when she gets it, unfortunately the property has been on the market for seven months already with no sale in sight in a moribund real estate market. It was announced today that Christmas retail sales were below expectations. Figures are flying about national mortgage collapse, personal bankruptcy, and credit card debt. Just wondering, is the GOP line still that the economy is doing well?

I will say honestly that I am shocked at this mess. I disagree with Bush on every possible social issue but I thought that he and his Republican gang were supposed to be great experts at running an economy. The only thing I like about Republicans is that they are often good with money. What happened this time???

Don’t be deterred from talking politics with your liberal friends. I know most of the regular libs on TH are pretty rabid, but they only represent the ultra-extreme left in this country and are usually beyond salvation. However, I’ve actually brought many lib friends over from the dark side. It’s easy if you do it gradually (you don’t want to shock their system or they will turtle up on you and just start screaming). Just find a lib, gradually add info and knowledge and presto!

Icedog/wildwest.
Icedog. An empty chair? Hardly a dilemna. It would be empty with Hillary in it as well...empty headed. But yes. Anything is preferable to Mr & Mrs. Clinton occupying the desk (and its environs) in the oval office. That desk has seen enough of good old wild willy and his playmates. The same thing from the missus might be too much of a burden for the old desk to bear.

wildwest. Everything you say is true. But for me, Bush's fondness for Mexico and for illegals finally turned me away. I consider his policies regarding our borders as tantamount to selling America out, and I think we are all going to pay for it down the road.

You can answer you're own questions with a little research.

Do you know the cause of the recent property and bank losses (hint: look up "teaser rates" and "living outside your means")

Why does your friend not have dental insurance?

What do you think the dem mandates and tax breaks for alt fuel (i.e. corn) does to the costs of agriculture in this country?

P.S. free tip....I buy all my college texts used online....I normally pay less than $30-40 per book (Alibris.com)

To wildwest
It wasn't that Bush didn't use the bully pulpit---it was that he didn't want us to know what was really going on. The philosophy seems to have been "conceal the truth and tell them a story". Begin with the press release when Bush's staff first moved into their White House offices---they said Clinton's staff had trashed and vandalized the place before leaving, the media carried this, and this story was widely believed. Later Ari Fleischer admitted the story was "disinformation", a lie told for political gain.

That set the tone: give the public a PR release but conceal the truth. Transparency disappeared. Cheney met behind closed doors with unnamed individuals to write policy that would determine our laws, then he went to court to keep secret those names. The White House put a political operative shill in the White House Press Corps---the man was not really a journalist. Bush flew into the Mission Accomplished scene in a jet fighter because, we were told, the ship was too far at sea to allow a helicopter flight---then reporters noticed the skyline of San Diego in the background. Then there was the little matter of why we went to war in Iraq.

Came the 2004 election: Bush campaigned on passing a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, and conservatives voted him back into office with very strong feelings about that issue. As soon as he was safely in, he dropped the issue like a hot coal and started pushing against Social Security: this was pure Bait & Switch. Six weeks later he admitted to a WP reporter that he had no intention of pushing for the amendment.

Before somebody posts back that I am telling liberal lies, I ask that they google these issues because every single thing I have written here happened as I state it. Check me out.

Actually, the first thing I said when I heard about the expensive textbooks was that they may have been available online much cheaper, and I also mentioned alibris (I am both a book buyer and a cheapskate shopper). The answer was that the books were needed ASAP. I don't know what the facts were. And I don't know the student in question, just that he is mentored by my neighbor. I gather that the kid is not exactly Einstein so maybe the thinking was that he shouldn't start the term first and get the books ten days later. Fact remains, retail price of textbooks is high. I would say, outrageously high. I keep hearing this BTW.

Clinton pressured the lending institutions to allow those whom could not afford the home mortgages they applied for to qualify...At the time... I actually agreed with him...must have been some residual lib from my earlier days :)

Anyway...You must be thrilled...It it also the rich whom are getting burned...It is they whom also have extendeed their means and are down sizing. BUT...It is the rich whom drive our economy support our tax base...It is the rich whom underwrite the LP's for RE investments for all of us....I for one hope they still have faith, sypathy and $ to continue to hekp us all

Would you consider that the loss of illegal immigrant pickers might also be affecting the cost of grapes?

Lilly. It takes two to tango.
The GOP didn't do it alone. We can thank the good old tax-and-spend democrats for doing more than their share. Thing is, what do we do to fix it. I don't see any good ideas coming from your side either. It's for sure Hillary and Obama together don't have a clue. And the only one on the GOP side who has any business sense (which is what America desperately needs) is Romney. Americans, left and right, should consider take that into account when they go to the polls. It's time to put partisanship aside and do what's best for all of us.

lilly
why should you understand the economy. You frequently tell how you hate capitolism and then p*ss and moan when everything isn't perfect for your and your little friends. You probably thought it was peachy keen when all the losers suddenly started buying houses with no money down so they could enjoy the good life. Unfortunately they didn't understand those teaser rates wren't forever and now they are crying for the taxpayers to bail them out. But you think your dreams will soon be coming true should the dims gain the white house. How will are your friends like the new tax increases promised by both the missus clinton and your new hero oblahma

Ron
"Clinton pressured mortgage lenders etc"? Hello? Clinton hasn't been president since January 2000. George W Bush mounted an initiative to establish "The Ownership Society"---you can find exact quotes if you google "bush ownership society". Tonight on TV they were saying that "the sitting government [that would be the one that is sitting now and not a decade ago] pressured lenders to cooperate with its plan to broaden home ownership". I see a lot of silly stuff on townhall, but saying that the present mortgage crisis is Bill Clinton's fault definitely belongs on the short list.

How do you folks think up this stuff? I keep reading aloud from townhall to my husband, who is over there sitting on the sofa, and when he hears "it wasn't Newt Gingrich who shut down the government, it was Bill Clinton" and "the mortgage loan problem is Bill Clinton's fault" and "Iran should nuke Israel off the planet and then Israel should nuke Iran off the planet and we will be rid of both of them"---and the poor old man is laughing so hard he may have another heart attack. I think I'd better go: not safe here.

lilly
The recent weather patterns and the fires in CA have more to do with the price of the grapes. As for the textbook dilemma, the GAO found that, although there are many factors that determine the cost of a textbook, the stuff designed to accompany the book, like revisions or CD-ROMs, was the major culprit. The fact that some instructors have a hand in determining the supplements and the revisions doesn't help, either.

When it comes to textbook's for my DCCCD classes, I tell my students to save their money. The book chosen by the Department sucks. I tell my students that instead of $85 for the book, they are required to read and review three books by noted historians. I usually give my students study guides and annotated timelines as supplements to lectures, and the multimedia presentations I give.
