Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

At the risk of incurring a roundhouse kick from the great Chuck Norris, I must confess that I'm even more troubled by Mike Huckabee's direction than I was last week.

On "Meet the Press" in January 2007, Tim Russert asked Huckabee, "You said this: 'I have a hard time seeing (Sen. John McCain) being elected president, just because I think, at times, some of his views have alienated very important segments of the Republican Party. I'm not sure he can mend the fences with the evangelical wing of the party, the pro-life part of the party.' You stand by those words?"

Huckabee responded, "Well, sure, I said them. I, I have a lot of respect for Senator McCain. He's a great American hero. But I do think that there are going to be some challenges that he'll face, and some of them have to do with issues that really have alienated many conservatives."

Bingo -- except now these words could apply equally to Huckabee -- not concerning the pro-life issue but Huckabee's unfortunate piece in Foreign Affairs magazine, where he joined the Democratic amen chorus in indicting President Bush for his "arrogant bunker mentality."

Until now, Huckabee has been fairly Teflon, avoiding real damage with conservatives for some of the unappealing aspects of his record and policy agenda. But the Foreign Affairs article, "America's Priorities in the War on Terror," could be his "Howard Dean scream" moment -- assuming Republicans are listening with a modicum of objectivity.

For taken at face value, a number of his statements in the piece surely will, to paraphrase Huckabee, "alienate very important segments of the Republican Party." Why? Because they wrongly trash President Bush in the words of ill-meaning Democrats who have slandered Bush's foreign policy from the beginning for their own partisan ends.

Huckabee's most offending words appeared at the very outset of the article, which should remove any doubt they were central to his theme. He wrote, "The United States, as the world's only superpower, is less vulnerable to military defeat. But it is more vulnerable to the animosity of other countries. Much like a top high school student, if it is modest about its abilities and achievements, if it is generous in helping others, it is loved. But if it attempts to dominate others, it is despised. American foreign policy needs to change its tone and attitude, open up, and reach out. The Bush administration's arrogant bunker mentality has been counterproductive at home and abroad. My administration will recognize that the United States' main fight does not pit us against the world but pits the world against the terrorists."

Are we to assume that Mike Huckabee agrees with The New York Times, which, in its editorial "America the Indifferent," once called the United States "the stingiest (country) in the Group of Seven industrialized nations"?

I believe America is the most benevolent and generous nation in the history of the world, which is all the more remarkable considering it is the world's sole super power. But our decency and generosity, Huckabee's theory notwithstanding, has not caused us to be universally loved by other nations, which have various reasons for hating us, none of which has anything to do with our mythical lack of generosity, benevolence or decency.

Nor have we attempted to dominate others. After removing Saddam, did we confiscate Iraq's oil? We sure could use it, couldn't we? Did we make Iraq our imperial subject or did we help it establish its own constitution and republican government? Yes, plenty of critics say Bush has made Iraq an American satellite, but you should expect to find them on Daily Kos and Democratic Underground, not at Huckabee HQ.

Huckabee's most objectionable criticism, though, is that Bush had an arrogant bunker mentality and should have changed his tone and reached out. But what readers seem to have missed is that Huckabee applied the criticism to Bush's domestic as well as his foreign policies -- "at home and abroad."

At once, Huckabee is validating the fraudulent Democratic critique that Bush conducted a "unilateral" foreign policy and, domestically, did not reach out across the aisle to Democrats, which he did on numerous occasions, only to be shot in the back by Ted Kennedy and company.

Everyone knows, though Democrats won't admit, that Bush has continually tried to reach out to other nations, as when he tried to build the coalition against Iraq. Many nations would not join -- not because Bush didn't plead with them but because they had their own corrupt or ignoble reasons for abstaining. Huckabee should join Republicans in condemning those recalcitrant nations rather than joining Democrats in opportunistically condemning Bush.

Republicans might overlook some of Huckabee's other anomalous policy positions, but his betrayal of President Bush, wrapped in a virtual endorsement of Jimmy Carter diplomacy, will require some real explaining.

Huckabee is right
The best way to fight an enemy is to try and win their love. The threat of radical Islam would evapoate overnight if we would simply see things their way and mould our foreign policy to suit the aims of Islam. The heart of any enemy can be won provided ample cash donations are made by the party seeking the love.

The United States should increase its foreign aid dramatically, and even make such cash available to nations that directly oppose us. For instance, we could provide Iran with enough cash and technology to fully develop an arsenal of nuclear weapons as a means to show them that we trust them and see them as equals. With such love pouring forth, how could they help but reciprocate our feelings?

Mike Huckabee completely alienated me with his foreign policy views.

Thanks LD. Your posts are the best!
I don't get the appeal of Huckabee other than he is a devout evangelical. Arrogant bunker mentality? How about, I have principles and I don't deviate from them? I don't stick my finger in the air and see what the focus groups say I should do (Clinton anyone?). President Bush is grounded in principle, not arrogant bunker mentality. Thanks Huck, maybe you can get on the Dem ticket for Veep as they will need all the evangelical help they can get going into the general election.

There has never been another country like America in the history of the world. There is no army or country that could defeat us if we used all our weaponry to fight a war. If Iran were the only super power, what do you think the world would look like?

Not the candidate we're looking for
"... assuming Republicans are listening with a modicum of objectivity."

I think that unfortunately too many evangelicals have latched onto Huckabee as an alternative to the man they first thought could save the party from the socially liberal Giuliani: Fred Thompson. As Romney put it on O'Reilly last night, many are projecting onto Huckabee what they want to see. I share the sentiment of trying to find a GOP standard-bearer who believes in protecting innocent life and preserving other traditional values, but Huckabee is not the answer. I'm an evangelican Christian and an all-around conservative, and I implore you all to look closely at Huckabee's positions. Not only is the pardon issue legitimate and troubling, but Huckabee tried to prevaricate on the issue (I gave him the benefit of the doubt at first). He is also another big-gov't Republican like W. Both favor tax cuts, but both would spend us into bankruptcy. Huckabee despicably compared illegal immigration to slavery in America. Now he parrots the most absurd of the liberal Democratic talking points on foreign policy. He espouses the incredibly naive proposition that nations don't act on their self-interests, but rather on whether we treat them as we would like to be treated.

BTW, Bush has not been nearly as unilateral as his critics claim. Six-party talks on N. Korea in which we heavily deferred to China. Continuing talks with Iran through intermediaries, despite Iran supplying terrorists and insurgents with sophisticated weapons that are killing our troops, which I think cries out for unilateral action. Renewed efforts to negotiate peace between Israel and the Palestinians, which include participation by many Arab nations.

Evangelical, not evangelican.

LimpBlimp: Appealing to the inner Neocon
I must admit that I never thought much of Huckabee. After witnessing his exchange with the venerable Ron Paul in the 89th (or whatever) Republican debate, I found Mr Huckabee to be little more than a shameless demagogue who careless invoked "God" anytime he wanted an applause line. However, if Huckabee is causing the elder LimpBlimp this much consternation, then perhaps he isn't all bad.

LimpBlimp writes, " Are we to assume that Mike Huckabee agrees with The New York Times...'the stingiest (country) in the Group of Seven industrialized nations?"

Why would Mr Huckabee agree with the New York Times on this issue? What does this have to do with our foreign policy? Nothing. Mr Limbaugh just wants to create an image of Mr Huckabee as just a liberal paper cut out.

LimpBlimp continues ". Many nations would not join -- not because Bush didn't plead with them but because they had their own corrupt or ignoble reasons for abstaining."

Here he goes again. So any nation who didn't support the invasion of Iraq was either corrupt or ignoble. I suppose Mr Limbaugh is also including the Vatican since the Pope was strongly opposed to the war in Iraq. Are we to assume Mr Limbaugh thinks the Vatican was on Saddam's payroll?

Besides the citizens of every country in the world were united in their opposition to the war in Iraq. If France, or Germany, or Canada "abstained" from the war then the worst that could be said is that they were respecting the wishes of their citizens. Why does LimpBlimp assume democracy is bad for Europe, but good for Iraq?

I don't know; LimpBlimp is just a gasbag for the Bush propaganda machine. I suppose it's in his genes.

CALL IT LIKE IT IS PILGRIM!!!
Limbaugh lacks the courage to call it like it is. Huckabee is absolutely correct in his assessment. Actually, he is saying the exact thing that Dr Ron Paul has been saying all along. However, both Huckabee and Romney pander too much to the Globalist CFR, Jacobin/Neocon crowd.

Actually, both of these liberal flipfloppers were
created by the Elites so I could really care less about either one of them. Once they get in office...they will just become a continuation of a pathetic Neocon/CFR Bush presidency.

The Elitists created the Frankensteins with all of their love fests and subsidized airtime of both men and ignoring the voices of true conservative patriots like Hunter, Tancredo and Dr Ron Paul....which means Limbaugh is just like all of the rests...i.e. he is a conservative imposter. A Jacobin Neocon

NeoCons and Realists
Huckabee's policy is so bad that both NeoCons and Realists are attacking it. It is pure Dem fodder. The Dem foreign policy is nothing more than a bunch of talking points that developed over time as the Middle East changed. The Dems would seize any opportunity they could find to jump on Bush. Consequently they have developed an incoherent mishmash that can not be implemented and if it were would make the situation a lot worse.

Huck has the same approach. Figure out where the other candidates are not and fill in the gap and try to grab the votes. However, Reps are smarter than Dems. They know really dumb vote grabbing from workable policy.

Thanks for pointing out that Huck thinks Bush is arrogant on Domestic Policy also. Huck is starting to sound like a nutroot. Maybe KOS will endorse him.

Where would the stock market be if Huck were running things (I like my 401 K to grow not shrink)?

BG....YOU JUST HIT THE PROBLEM/YOUR 401k
Its Corporatist like yourself who are more interested in their 401Ks than would is good for America and the American people.

If you figure in the inflation tax these monetary policies and foreign policies are costing us...then any growth in your 401k is just marking time. By then it will be too late for you to wake up and smell the roses as our country approaches a 10 trillion dollar debt..

Bush is the Jacobin/Neocon pied piper for the CFR and their Globalist agenda. If you wish to follow him over the cliff...its your choice...:O)) This is what happens when hubris reigns ....and your achilles heal is exposed...

Weren't you a blowhard for Nutjob Ron "where's the mothership" Paul?

Huckabee! hahaha.

Don't worry, be happy
Huckleberry will fade after Iowa, if not before. I simply don't believe these polls. Soon we will have some real polls called voting and we will see.

And I don't count Iowa and NH either. They are not representative of the country as a whole.

Vic
I agree. Lots of dirt coming out re: The Huckster. Of course, the Paultroons still think that they have a shot! haha. The guy is a full-blown nut.

Motivation
There are two means of inspiring action in another, whether the subject is an individual, an organization or a country - evoke in them a sense of love or fear. Love is certainly preferred, but if they are predisposed to not love, then the most reliable way to promote the desired response is decisive action giving the antagonist clear reason to fear. My concern with Huckabee is that he shares with GW a common trait. He is willing to extend mercy to those who neither love nor fear us but rather despise us. Friends and supporters share the cost of the "good will", while adversaries continue to drain resources with no movement toward common ground.

Shuck Huck
Just reading Robert Novak's autobiography, "The Prince of Darkness," in which he focuses on Jimmy Carter's willingness to grant the U.S.S.R. hegemony over Eastern Europe for peace in our time.
What we don't need right now is another Jimmy Carter willing to sell some country or some people into captivity in order to achieve an illusory peace.
Let's shuck Huck before he's allowed to sting us!

Loyal Democrat - pull your head out!
Islamic radicals will continue to remove our heads until we succumb to their hateful, fanatical, evil religious beliefs. We won't love them into reality. Are you nuts!!! We are not talking about people who will talk nasty about us, they want us dead!

If you want to join their cause so be it. As for me and most lovers of liberty, we will fight radical islam to the death. I prefer a proud death in a righteous cause to losing my head under the sword of a fanatic.

I found Huck interesting....
until I started paying closer attention to his record. David is right - this is another flim flam man from Hope, AR and one of those a century was one too many.

I hate to slip into the single issue bunch of conservatives, but when a candidate's assessment of our current conflict is180 degrees out of whack , like Rue Paul and now Huckabee, that too me is a dis-qualifier for a leader of the free world.

When dealing with a enemy who is thoroughly EVIL as the islamonazis are, we must totally defeat them before they can do the enormous harm they plan for us.

Lasting peace is only achieved when one side is totally subdued, and that is never done by talking. Insert "dhimmicrats" in the place of islamonazis and the same strategy applies.

Learn from history, you bunch of lib dummies!!!

Never mind. You refuse to hear, see or understand. Truth, facts and reality are an anathema to you. You live in a petty, peevish and childish nirvana.

Know this - EVIL does exist and it wants to slowly saw your head off.

Danbar
Helloo...recognize satire much?

Danbar , we need nonviolent protest
Danbar, just because they chop our heads off, as you "claim" doesn't mean they can't be won over by peacefull non-violent protest.

I mean have you ever seen the country of Iraq? If I had grown up over here I would be angry and want to kill myself also.

What we need to do is plant flowers around this place and try and bring back garden of eden style beauty. Maybe send then free DVDs of the greatest cultural event in US history, namely the Woodstock Concert. That will help straighten them out.

And now I have to throw up for writting that.

I used to like mike
I supported Mike Huckabee until I learned more about his foreign policy views. Now there are 2 Republican candidates who I feel are wrong for America, Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee.

Tinsldr2
YEOW! I gagged reading that! haha. We need to plant something all right, our national collective foot planted in the a**es of the terrorists as well as their liberal allies here at home.

tin
...and the valley people swore they'd have it for their very own...(bah,bah,bah,bup bup bah, bah)
Man! That was a great song!

Talk and be nice so they'll like us?????
The radical islamists have something they call hudna. (spelling?) What that means is according to the koran and the muslim elders, it is a good thing to make agreements and treaties with infidels so that they can get closer to their targets to be able to destroy them. They believe any agreement made with infidels is not enforceable because it is invalid and only a strategic tool.

So, you still want to talk and play nice?
They don't.

These quotes of Huckabee's remind me of an interview I saw by O'Reilly with Bono. Bono sat there telling O'Reilly that if the US gave more money to Africa and to the AIDS people, other countries would like us. O'Reilly let that slip by in one of his celebrity star struck moments. The US gives more money to other countries than any other nation. The US gives more money to AIDS research than any other in history and GW Bush raised the amount.
Huckabee's foreign policy knowledge seems less than those of us who simply pay attention.

beachmom
You are correct.

"According to Islamic law, a hudna can only be agreed to in order to allow the Muslim forces to gather strength."

And by gather strength, they mean gathering the strength to crush their enemy.

As I have stated before many times, "when America finally falls, a liberal will be responsible."

Huckabee
and Paul seem to have the same foriegn policy. Hey, all you Paul fans out there, 4.7% is rolling right along, no? Yeah! The Huckster will fall to those numbers soon. Thompson/Hunter. Now there is a ticket.

You missed the whole point of the articl
Here we go again!! Huckabee bash No.889. Go back and read the article again. I dare you! What "Heartland Huck" was talking about is we have a major enemy, Aqeida and they want to kill us and we never explained it to the world properly. We did a poor job of explaing they are the bad guys not us. He wants to wipe them out more than President Bush himself. He wants to increase the budget to the military so we have an even stronger force. Use overwhelming odds when attacking the enemy. We didn't and we got bogged down and only now after the surge are we finally winning. Quit Mediaa Matters-ing Chuck!!
I like Mike Huckabee and I like the way he is handling the biggest attack on a republican I have ever seen!!!

Huckabee foreign policy
In reading all the comments posted here, I find myself wondering how many people bothered to actually look up Huck's article in its entirety and read it. My biggest problem with his piece was that after reading the rest of the article, the first two paragraphs appear (to me) to contradict his foreign policy ideas.

He does NOT advocate killing terrorists with kindness and thereby encouraging them to love us back. His main critique of the Bush administration appears to be a lack of willingness to communicate and educate. President Bush is fighting the war on terror, yes. But he gets out in the public eye and talks about Islam as a peaceful religion, etc... and doesn't bother to education the American people about the force we're dealing with.

I have my own problems with Huckabee... mostly because I don't know that I trust his sincerity. And I don't care for the "compassionate conservative" agenda (which really translates into tax and spend social conservative).

His main foreign policy ideas in that article really did make a good bit of sense. I'm disappointed to hear so many conservative columnists and radio hosts talk ONLY about the first two paragraphs of the article without even mentioning the rest of it. Kind of intellectually dishonest.

Huckabee foreign policy - mistake
Oops. Should read "and doesn't bother to educate the American people." Sorry - should check before I post.

GunnyG Mercenary
"No idiot, it's hard-working people like us who INVEST in America and don't seek to have a Nanny State make every decision for us!"

What do you produce gunny?

" We PAY our mortgages and live within our means, paying our taxes dollars to people like you, the lazy and stupid in America, who can't lift a finger to make their lives better ON THEIR OWN!"

Is that why you are on the government dole working as a mercenary sucking up our tax dollars?

"I think a line out of Henry IV, Part I, fits you nicely: "How now my sweet creature of bombast?"

Gunny you really shouln't type when you are looking in a mirror oh wait then you would hardly ever type.....

MLdogg
do you honestly believe what you write? Just curious. If you do, its very scary stuff.

Thank you David
This was a great article.
I'm so glad to see someone call this phoney "preacher" out!!!
His record in Arkansas is horrible, but this slick talker from Hope, Arkansas, by pushing his righteousness, has slipped around it. Beware of the man that hides his true agenda behind his religion.
If conservative Christians would take the time to look up what this man really stands for, and not what he says, they would be appalled.

nanna
Yes, I think that people need to be sure what they're looking at when they're looking. Just listening to the sound bites that ANY candidate wants out there is not good enough. And to be honest, the fact that Huckabee is a pastor is something that causes me more than a little concern (having dealt with some slipper pastors myself before).

I'm also concerned about his "pushing his righteousness," as you put it. And his "slick talk." But the article he wrote is not being portrayed accurately. I would love to be able to get all the information about what Huckabee did in office. All the articles I read, though, are either FOR him or AGAINST him - and none of them are simply full of facts.

Does anybody know where to go to find JUST THE FACTS?

Unilateral Corruption?
But First: Does Limbaugh suggest that it's OK for conservatives to be partisan but not for liberals to be partisan? What's wrong with being partisan?

And later on he asserts that other countries did not join Bush because of their corruption and being bad people. Why do conservatives so consistently see bad character in other people and nations - such as global warming scientists also? Isn't that just a cop out? Isn't that just the easiest thing to do, slander the character of the person or nation who doesn't agree with you? Doesn't that reflect poorly on Limbaugh's character and willingness to do the hard work of thinking?

The old addage...
"What you see is what you get", does not apply to Huckabee. His light hearted attitude and witty little quips when he doesn't want to answer questions he knows will upset someone, just don't do it for me.

His ability to speak out of both sides of his mouth at the same time may be a campaign tactic that works on some but I would rather see candidates who are passionate about all their beliefs and be able to convey straight answers to important questions.

We do not need anymore RINO, big spending, big government Republicans. This man may have an R behind his name but I believe he is running in the wrong party and this Conservative, taxpaying, voter will not be supporting him.

Arianna today
posted first on Dennis' blog but applies here too:

"So why is the Republican establishment suddenly in a state of near-apoplexy? They've been cultivating evangelicals and fundamentalists for 30 years. Now they finally have a candidate who's truly part of the movement. Which, it turns out, is precisely the problem. The evangelical crowd was fine when it was just a resource to be cynically exploited every few years in demagogic anti-gay get-out-the-vote campaigns. But now the holy-rolling monster the GOP's Dr. Frankensteins have created has thrown off the shackles, fled the lab, and is currently leading in Iowa."

TH Pundits
Limbaugh conjures Jimmy Carter. Prager frets over secular Europe. Medved on Huckabee. Hurricanes, Palestine, Ethiopia.

Meanwhile, a major crisis is occurring on the Turky/Iraq border that could have serious ramifications in a number of areas.

With US consent and support, Turkey is bombing and now invading Iraqi Kurdistan with ground troops.
Condi Rice, a few miles away in Kirkuk, says nothing. Bush's press secretary repeats the lie that the PKK is a terrorist group that must be routed.
TH pundits don't seem to think it's a big deal that our loyal ally in Iraq is facing a betrayal that echoes the silence accompanying the genocide of Kurds by Saddam Hussein, although they'll consistently use that in tnheir faux-patriotic justifications for removing Hussein from power.

Bunker mentality? I'm not sure it even rises to that level.

Love ya David, but UR wrong on Mike H..
Saying Mike is dangerous because he agrees with the NY Times on W's bunker mentality is easily tweak-able. It would be like you being dangerous for wanting to strengthen the surge because 'Iraq is not going well' which would be a select quote from the NY Times/Slimes where you could have been found to agree. Dangerous? I think not.

I back W on Iraq and Afghanistan and think he's made appropriate adjustments but when asked if he could ever recall a mistake he came off as arrogant and bunker. This could be all Mike meant on this. People are jaded by W compliments of the media. It is hard enough to run for office oneself without having to 'protect' W too.

A good place for W to admit a mistake is on compromise with Teddy on Edu and illegals and spending. Again, he's been bunker. I know this isn't what the NY Slimes or Jimmy Carter means but it could very well be what Mike meant. I think your broad brush has tripped you a bit. I hope so as if Mike wants to cut and run and spend spend spend and raise more taxes (you really think so?), I'm sure not for him. But that ain't it, David.

David, Why Ignore Mitt's Liberalism?
Yes, Huckabee has some troubling poistions. but why do you always ignore the more troubling Romney record David?

1. Romney claims to be "pro-life" but established abortion as a "healthcare benefit" in his own government run healthcare plan (after his purported "pro-life conversion.") Proof Source http://www.mass.gov/Qhic/docs/cc_benefits1220_pt234.pdf Of noted he also placed a Planned Parenthood representative on the healtcare board.

2. Romney claims to oppose "gay marriage" and "did everything he could to oppose it as governor." Yet, his record shows that he was advised to ignore the Goodridge opinion by various constitutional lawyers (including Hugh Hewitt- proof source http://massresistance.blogspot.com/2007/12/hugh-hewitt-tol d-romney-to-defy-mass.html) and choose not to even though the court had no constitutional jurisdictional authority to even hear the case in the first place. When the legislature never amended or suspended the current marriage statute (Ch. 207) to accommodate "gay marriage" that should have been the end of it. But Romney had privately promised the Log Cabin GOPs not to oppose gay marriage if elected governor in 2002( proof source http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/08/us/politics/08romney.htm l?_r=3&hp=&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin ) and so he chose to ignore the constitution he swore to uphold to fulfill the campaign promise to the Log Cabin GOPs and ordered his own Dept of Health to illegally change the marriage certificates from "husband" and "wife" to "partner A" and "partner B" and ordered Justices of the Peace and Town Clerks to perform same sex marriage ceremonies or resign.

How about a litte balance David?

Mike H only meant bunker in these senses
1. W never or rarely admits a mistake. One can back him as I do on Iraq and Afghan and still say we've made mistakes.

2. W compromised too much with Kennedy democrats and not enough with more conservative ones.

That's all he could have meant on bunker domestic and foreign. He's not trying to re-elect W and some voices think W is encouraging Romney.

He needs to distance and in that sense only, agree with the NY Times, but not in the sense you paint him...cut and run, open border amnesty, tax and spend. Are you kidding!!!

You are better than that sort of overstatement/broadbrush, David.

Limbaugh Ignores Romney
David, here is the bottom line on Romney. Why do you ignore it along with the rest of the "conservative media?" I thought you were different. Yes Huck has some very troubling positions but Romney has far more and is far more of a danger to our nation. Why do you ignore his record David?

The bottom line is that Mitt Romney is the most liberal candidate in the race from either party. He accomplished what neither Hillary nor any other Democrat has been able to. Mitt gave Massachusetts a govt run healthcare plan that included abortion as a healthcare benefit. And Mitt gave Massachusetts gay marriage to fulfill a campaign promise in 2002 to the homosexual Log Cabin Republcians . That is the real story that the media including about 99% of the so-called "conservative media" (Hewitt, Bennett, Hannity, Sekulow, Medved, etc...) have conveniently ignored and suppressed. The real story that the media has buried is that Romney violated his sworn oath to protect and defend the oldest functioning constitution in the world (authored by John Adams) and knowingly violated it for his own political gain. And the real question that Romney and the media talkers who daily shill for him should have to answer is: Why should Americans trust that Romney would protect and defend the US Constitution when he flagrantly violated his own as governor?

huck
reportsd indicate he is not ready to join the ready for prime time players. No one is looking for instant solutions but we would like to think the candidates are current with today's issues. He is probably a well-meaning person but his pardon history in arkansas shows examples of poor judgement. I can accept that criminals can think they can find some level of redemption while in prison but as that is the oldest dodge employed by those imprisoned it should be viewed skepticallyu. That criminals alledgedly find jesus is not enough for them to be released back to society in particular when convicted of violent crimes. If they seek to do good work they can do it within the prisons and not at the risk of being released back into the general public at the risk of other citizens. But it highlights lapses of judgement that raises questions of how he would deal with the dangers facing this country from enemies abroad.

Folks
The Limbaughs only have one criteria for who to back and they are convinced it isn't Huck. They are party operatives nothing else they want who can win

Hey HalD, still referencing yourself on the Legion page?

Apparently, the ONLY things you produce, according to your old AF acquaintences is HOT AIR and CHICKENSH*T!

Hey, you ever find that reference for those "secret" concentration camps you talked about?

Still got your lips pressed against Hanoi John Kerry's a**? For a guy who says that he is behind the troops, you SURE backed the wrong horse!

RELIGION VS POLITICS

.....I am afraid that the Republican campaign has turned into a Theological war over whose religion is best ...this is not a good thing ...

Good day to you!!

I see the attacks against Mr. Limbaugh started early.

BTW, I was watching SciFi channel last night, and saw an ad for a horror movie called "Hallowed Ground". The absolutely best part: it takes place in a town called HOPE!!!!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

GunnyG Mercenary
How is life on the dole? Want to hold my life member legion card they gave me? LOL

Maange anyone to death yet?

They're all RINOs
Practically every Republican candidate out there has some RINO leanings and what I don't understand is why. Has the Republican party swung that far left that conservatives have to settle for someone who flies in the face of our standards? I would like to hope Fred Thompson has a chance, but he just hasn't caught fire yet.

I just received my annual RNC donation plea and this year instead of sending them a little something, I wrote them a note informing them they will no longer get my money until they purge the illegal alien-pandering, free-spending RINOs from the Republican party. Otherwise, those fools are going to be the death of us!

Shaggy
sorry to hear about the pup. Icey here as well, but mine luvs to play in it!! He is still young and active.
Have you ever heard of diplomatic efforts? How do you know that behind the scenes, we are doing what these governments deem necessary for their own countries. A lot of countries out there are begging for our help, even though, in the press, it may make us look bad. Do you think that is possible? I do. And we give them aid and comfort to the enth degree!!! Not even you can argue that!
Hope Mr. B hangs in there. Take good care of him.

baseballdoc
THIS is the worst part of the campaign!!

I don't care about the candidates' religious affiliations. I want a hard*ss who will uphold the rule of law.

Is that so much to ask??

Jodi On Huckabee
I'm not a compuer whiz, so I don't know exactly how to look up his record. There are newspapers in Arkansas that should have many of the facts.

I can tell you what I know from living in Arkansas, and the fact I now live in Oklahoma, not far from the Arkansas line. Therefore, all of my Local news on television and radio, come out of Arkansas.
Mike Huckabee supported president Bush's amnesty plan. He gave welfare, food stamps, and medicaid to illegal aliens. He wanted to give them scholarships to college at taxpayers expense. That didn't pass, and he called those that opposed it "racists and bigots". He went to Mexico and met with Vicente Fox to have a Mexican consulate set up in Arkansas, he rented a govt. office to Mexico for 1.00 a year.
The consulate passed out I>D cards to illegals so that they could set up bank accounts and send money to Mexico. The legislature tried to tell him that these cards could be used to get drivers licenses and VOTE, Mike Huckabee wouldn't let them check on people to see if they were illegal when they were registering to vote.

He raised taxes more than any other governor, including Bill Clinton. He taxed everything, even beds in rest homes. Cigarettes, gas, food, and on and on.
He raised taxes by 505 million, State spending rose over 65 percent, Obligation to debt rose by almost i billion.
He released thousands of prisoners, many of them murderers, including one named Dumond, who moved into Missouri, and raped and murdered again.
He was brought before the ethics commission 20 times.
This is just a few things peoople should know about. And not let this man fool you.

gunny
yesterday there were reports that the left now views you as an object of pity. I know the fight against the looney left is both tiring and never ending but don't give up the fight. They can fight with personal attack but they can't win in the arena of ideas.

YLG/GunnyG
good day to ya's!!
I need to take a month or so off of TH. I need to re-group and re-charge. I think that Hal has gotten the best of me. Oh, wait a minute!
BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Hah! Tis the season you know. I just wanted the Doofus to think he won for one second. That is my present to him!! LOL

HalD
According to the people I'm conversing with, who knew you in the AF, they say that you were quite the obstructionist bureaucrat! The "King of Chickensh*t" I believe was the term used.

What a nice way to be remembered! HAHA!

I just got one of my FORMER Marines hired over here. I have 17 in my ring of friends on my mil page. Somehow, I think I did something right whereas, Mr King of Chickensh*t, you didn't!

BTW, how did it feel to get passed over? Did your sphincter tighten up?

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

DANG! Meant to add, there is a retired AF Colonel here who knows you. Said you were a total anal pore. Seems to be the opinion of the majority.

But the perfumed prince still likes you tho.

Well "duh" Donahue...
We all want a candidate who can win! But it doesn't stop there for me, nor for the Limbaughs.

Huckabee can't win simply because core conservatives won't support him. He is a softie and does not show his true colors. The way he conducts his campaign with "preacher" motivational tactics and off handed witty meaningless remarks when he doesn't want to confront something head on just won't play in the long run.

His tax and spend record, his soft immigration and foreign policy stances and his lack of good judgment when it comes to pardoning criminals don't play in my book and I don't think I am alone, by any means!

ylg
good morning. its cooler her in ariz this morning but I don't think we get the range of cold that texas gets. To the matter at hand. Why are commentators on the right always attacked as though they have an agenda. When I see some objectivity coming from the left that will be newsworthy. I found it interesting that a poll released this morning shows that 40% of americans would never vote for the missus clinton under any circumstances. I place no faith in polls at this stage, but am awaiting the left to explain these numbers. But isn't amazing that after her claims that america knows how the missus clinton stands on every issue and 15 years of actively campaigning for president she can't get a majority of americans to like her and that she isn't polling in double digits against repub candidates. Even with a bootlicking msm singing her praises america isn't falling for her brand of snake oil as a cure for our ills

Kevin
"Practically every Republican candidate out there has some RINO leanings and what I don't understand is why. Has the Republican party swung that far left that conservatives have to settle for someone who flies in the face of our standards?"

What you are missing is that with GW the fundamentalist conservatives have failed so badly the R party itself may not survive. Why would any party even consider conservatives now?

wildwest
The way I gauge the accuracy of my attacks is how viciously the moonbats attack! haha.

What is better is that my readership of my blog, according to my site meter, is on every continent except Antarctica and South America! I'm getting readers from Asia to Saudi to Europe!

The more they whine and bleat, the better I like it.

BTW, since May 22, 2007, just passed 44K! And my posts and comments do not count as site owner!

I'd like to hear the answer to that one too.

How does it feel to be the court jester of TH?

He made some passing reference to the NY slimes but we were laughing too hard to hear the rest.

What's even funnier is that Robert Robert will exit here to attend some fantastic function with "wonder woman" but we all know he's going to Walmart with his dog, to fly the helo machine in the lobby!

And usually, once BrianR shows up and starts ripping into HalD, the guy who references himself on HuffyPuffy, HE'LL flee!

Liberals, dumber than a bag of sand.

First thing you must know is that gunnyg is a liar second that I provided the info to him ages ago. He just likes to whine and play real soldier

Yeah Doofus who was passed over
where are those "secret" concetration camps at. By the way, I still can't find you in the military locator on line. Why is that Doofus?

Robert
"I think we are going to "win" here; as winning is defined at letting the Iraqis change the course of their government and government life...but unlike LIncoln, no one can explain why we did it."

Sadly my guess is it will come down to two reasons fear and panic by leadership. Perhaps though we can add value the people are now asking both why and what now..

Well, I see
I see Tweedledumba$$ (Hal Doofus) and Tweedledumbsh!t (Rockhead J. Squirrel) are both here to bore us to death with their usual drivel.

Hey Hal, found any of those KKK business cards yet, or discovered what war TR protested?

HalD and Roberta
ECHO CHAMBER ALERT!

1040 post.

Are you two idiots for real or fooling around?

HalD, Lies? Yeah, like all of Hanoi John's crewmembers and former commanders all lied about him!

I'm curious how you can support someone like Lurch after he deserted the POW/MIAs for a real estate deal! (See village voice link)

You're behind the troops all right. Like Harry Reid and Red Nanny.

King of Chickensh*t. Boy, they sure pegged you dead-on.

Funny how we can't find YOUR name there.

Although we DID find Roberta's name in the Girl Scouts registry! Seems she's in the First Platoon, Cookie Sales Division!

wildwest: I'm willing to bet that the 40% will be attributed to a republican poll done in Old Dime Box, TX. She has claimed that the American public has know her for 35 years. Wasn't she a law student then?? My dad, who is 75, had never heard of her until we watched the morning show with the "who-has-the-best-cookie-recipe" crudola in 1992!!!

SSGT: It is now about 64* F, with an expected high of 72* F. I hope you are happy, because I AM!!!

Good morning, YLG.
I finally arrived on Mike Adams' thread last night, and you were right. Alexander Riley is a first class idiot. I posted something to that effect, not my best work I must admit. I was tired. I checked this morning and a couple of others had ripped into him--Cookie for one.

I hope Mike writes more about this Riley character, and possibly provides an email address. I would like another go at him. Cheers, m'dears.

Hal D, Robert, Dawg, Action
I know I should be saving all your posts.

I could add them to the compost for my garden. They are cheaper than steer manure and more abundant. Problem is, they STINK!

MotleyCrue
Didn't I tell you???

My hubby read it last night, and by the time he read your post he was hyperventilating from laughing so hard!!

I would refer to him as a classless idiot.

As for Dr. Adams, he has enough ammunition to reroute his colon....

YLG
"YO"!
Its 25* here, but no "S" as of yet today!!! Its going to be a balmy 39* high, however! Yip Yip. I love this weather. I hope you don't get too warm down there. I would hate to see a rash of sunburns flaring up.

HAL D. YOU ARE A DOOFUS!!!

Robert
"The better the decision making, the more thoughtful the process; the more minor those flaws are and the more foregivable history is.

Problem for the little LImbaugh crowd (and that includes many here) is that the decision making process was so bad, and the leadership so poor that in just the first draft of history (which is the 08 elections)...there is little explaining it."

They committed the cardinal error they assumed then demanded facts to "prove" thier assumptions

",,,as the song says "I am so glad I am standing here today"...some people have stayed moral even in this nutty time."

I am really proud of the fact over 20 senior officers left rather than serve this failed regime. You may disagree but the was the only protest open to them...

ylg
but the left wants us to be viewed as haters because we oppose everything the missus clinton has sttod for, the actions she took to destroy others and her current wacko ideas. Yet the left believes that their bds is perfectly acceptable and that insulting the president is perfectgly fine. They claim the right has an unbounding hatred of clinton. I recall that many viewed as both weak and unable to serious decisionsconcerning defending this country. However he was decisive in soiling the oval office but as nutty lilly still maintains poor bubba was the victim of a 20 year old sexual predator and hew couldn't help himself, she overpowered him and forced him to act. If the secret service couldn't protect his sorry mbehind they should have been fired en masses for dereliction of duty. Oh wait that is old news and doesn't truly rewflect on his character or more to the point his total lack of character or is it he couldn't help being a character rather than adult leading america and the free world. And still thge dims maintain they should again be trusted turning our country over to bubba's enabler in residence

SSGT

"Soiling"? Oral sex soils the oval office but torture, rendition and Guantanamo don't? You know I wager the white house is no stranger to oral sex going at least as far back as when Lincoln slept with his chief of security but to the best of my knowledge we have never had torture as national policy before...

YLG I'm glad hubby approves.
He doesn't know about us, does he? :-)

Hal Dorkus
You called me a liar earlier yet you've never managed to PROVE me a liar, here, or on my blog.

You pushing chickensh*t here like you did in the AF?

I'm wondering, you ever write yourself up for medals like your hero Hanoi Jon Karrie did?

Robert Robert

How was that dishwasher's convention you went to? Did the trailer court allow you to bring "Wonder Woman" as long as you kept her on a leash?

We nee Fred more than ever!!
Michelle Malkin just reported that Congress has gutted the funding for the fence, and another slap in the face, they are giving 10 million dollars in emergency funding for attornies for illegal aliens.

Freds plans for this is great. We have got to stand up America.
I don't know about you true Americans, but I have had it with this phony baloney government. Amd Republican Kay Hutchison was leading the charge for this horrible legislation!!

This comes on the heels of a report this morning on the news, that things are so bad on the border that the Border Patrol is having to fire tear gas at illegals at the border...

Hal Dorkus
"but to the best of my knowledge we have never had torture as national policy before..."

What would you call FDR's decision to round up the Nisei in 41 and send them REAL concentration camps? Isn't it a form of torture to lose one's homes, businesses, etc, and be forcibly confined?

Add blindness to your stupidity issue.

wildwest
I can honestly say I like Bill Clinton. He has always been a charming rogue, and you know what you get with him.

Mrs. Clinton, however, has a different agenda, and no one knows what she stands for at any given time.

I wouldn't waste any of my precious time or emotion hating them, though. I would rather spend it watching sumo wrestling on EuroSport....

Tsk tsk, wildwest. Surely you jest.
It's hardly wild Willy's fault that whenever the little missus entered the oval office, the lovely Monica chose to duck under the desk as the only available hiding place. Okay, so he'd forgotten to button up on more than one occasion. It's not like he forced her to do anything she didn't want to do, other than suggest she zip him up with her teeth.

Geeze, let's have a little magnanimity.

Huckabee
As I said on another site Huckabee just left me in the dust when he slapped the President and the adminsistration in the face. If I didn't know better, I would have thought it was coming from a Democrat wannabe.

I was leaning in his direction until that speech and now don't even listen to what he has to say about any subject, so if one vote matters, he lost mine and the election.

gunny

That is almost as big a fantasy as Hal Doofus's others. You know TR protested a war, the Wicked Witch of Chappaqua is a moderate, and the Backstabbing Boys, Kerry and Murtha are heroes.

LtCol Chickensh*t, of the passed over squadron, has yet to produce them. It must really bug him that had I not be injured on active-duty, I could have went to E-9 or CWO while the AF tossed him like a used condom!

I used to like Huckabee. Please accept my sincere, humble apologies!

Have you seen his latest TV spot? Its slick, warm, fuzzy pandering to those who want a "Pastor in Chief". Huck can't help himself. I think he wants to be Jimmy Carter. God help us!

HalD. I'm surprised to you see you
still posting. I would've thought by now you'd be out on highway 66, hitching rides to California with your waterboard tucked under your arm. I see you're still insisting it is torture. Well, then you must have lied when you claimed to have been waterboarded, otherwise you'd know it was more of a mind game than actual torture.

Ho hum.

WTF?
Teddy Roosevelt protested our invasion of Mexico after Villa and JK and Murtha received awards for heroism.

Murtha and Hanoi Jon Carry were alive when TR was POTUS?

Why would TR protest them getting medals?

Add abject a**hattery to your blindness and stupidity issues.

however miss monica's account of bubba's behavior differs with what many of us understand concerning that particular activity. She claims he didn't trust her to "finish" him off but retired to the bathroom to take matters in hand. What a real man. And still the dims insist that his return to the white house will again raise america's image throughout the world. Maybe he was a likable rougue. That don't translate into someone who will defend america from overseas enemies as well as illegal invaders from the obelow our southern border.

for Hal Donohue
Hal Donohue quotes Arianna:

"So why is the Republican establishment suddenly in a state of near-apoplexy? They've been cultivating evangelicals and fundamentalists for 30 years. Now they finally have a candidate who's truly part of the movement. Which, it turns out, is precisely the problem. The evangelical crowd was fine when it was just a resource to be cynically exploited every few years in demagogic anti-gay get-out-the-vote campaigns. But now the holy-rolling monster the GOP's Dr. Frankensteins have created has thrown off the shackles, fled the lab, and is currently leading in Iowa."

Bingo!
I'm no fan of the Huffington Post. But a stopped clock really can be right twice a day. Like this time. Arianna's analysis is right on target. And well-phrased too.

Name one policy where the Wicked Witch is moderate. Let's see a $5000 baby bond, government matched 401, government mandated health care, higher taxes, and they'll hit anyone who makes over $36,000 a year. Yep real moderate policies. I guess when the next poll comes out, we'll know. Actually, I watched his comments about the troops on SeeBS, and I am,also, referring to his supposed "joke" about GWB, also viewed on SeeBS. You know, "if you don't get an education, you could wind up stuck in Iraq." actually Lurch said the troops were "terrorizing the Iraqi women and children." So if he purpose of terrorism is to terrorize, if you terrorize you are a terrorist.

Taking lines out of context to fabricate intent that was not the intent of the writer, Mike Huckabee. If you will read the whole article which is available to read now at a link at michaelmedved.com you can see that the piece was intended to point out where the Bush administration has missed opportunities. When you are judging candidates out of the broad field available to Republicans, don't you want to know what he would retain and what he would do differently? I know I do.

Having voted since the 1970s, I believe I have a modicum of objectivity as you say. I know that weighing the field, I agree with Ed Rollins who worked with Ronald Reagan, that Mike Huckabee is in the mold of Ronald Reagan. Mike Huckabee is the best candidate the Republicans have had in a very long time. I hope you "pundits" don't ruin it for us with your overweaning desire to push your designated winners on us. I think you are seeing the grassroots, the Heartland of America, pushing back.

As for the terrorizing comment, I heard the whole thing in context.

Do you realize there is a difference between:

terror and Terror

between

terrorizing and Terrorists?

I little kid may be "terrified" of the monster in the closet. That doesn't have anything to do with Terrorism...

Given Lurch's past comments and expressed feelings about the military, I have a ton of reasons for doubting his explanation.

Terrorizing is what Terrorists do. The object is to instill fear. Wheteher or not you think it is not what Lurch meant, I believe he meant itquite the way he said it.

"First of all, Bush is NOT a war criminal. That's a view held by extremists. Extremists never have anyone's best interests at heart, only what they feel at the moment."

Bush almost certainly has lots of wiggle room to escape war criminal charges. However, since we have admitted over 30 individuals have died undergoing interrogation it is almost certain the Hague can charge him with crimes against humanity. This is not an extremist position at all but doable

Fred isn't

As far as Rudy goes, I don't like Rudy. I do like Newt, but he was wrong. don't know the facts about the other one you mentioned. But what they do has nothing to do with Fred Thompson.
Fred had been divorced for many many years before he remarried. His ex wife has nothing but good to say about him. He married her when he was 17 years old, they didn't divorce until the kids were grown. They just grew apart.

Liberals worked up over false history
It amazes me how liberals make up a phony history with imaginary events which never happened, then get worked up over their own lies.

The idea that Bush invaded Iraq without authorization, and so is a war criminal, is an example of phony history that never happened.

We went into Iraq by an authorization of force resolution approved by Congress, including Democrats, and in response to over a decade of United Nations resolutions. In addition, Iraq repeatedly committed direct acts of war by firing on our aircraft in the Iraq no-fly zone. (Our aircraft were authorized to be there by United Nations resolutions.)

Keep believing your fantasies, Hal. Dem(Lib)VoteVEt is about as non-partisan as MoveOn.org. They are Republicans in name only. I haven't seen a conservative or even a halfway moderate Dumbbuttcrap in years.

Why Iraq was invaded - self defense
Iraq was invaded by the US in self defense. Over a decade, the United Nations Security Council repeatedly said that Iraq's weapons of mass destructions were a threat to the world. Even Arab nations voted in favor of that.

Month before the invasion, President Bush went to the UN and said either you enforce your resolutions or we will.

Liberals can't have it both ways. The reason why countries give some of their war powers up to the UN is that the UN is supposed to fight on their behalf. If the UN can't do its job, then each country needs to defend its people.

Liberals make such a big deal about WMD not being found in Iraq, but that is totally meaningless. The only way to remove the threat was to PROVE that WMD weren't in Iraq, and the only way to that could have been done peacefully is if Saddam Hussein had allowed inspections. He didn't, even with years of sanctions.

So if the Iraqis want to know who is responsible for their country being invaded, and for the deaths, then they should look in the mirror, because it is their fault. They were ORDERED by the United Nations to allow inspections and comply with other resolutions, and they didn't do it. They chose war.

DL

It's a fact that if someone is with someone who commits a crime but doesn't report it then the person who doesn't commit the crime is charged with assessory to a crime. Here's a thought
27 Democratic Senators voted to use force against Iraq. If the as the liberals say that President Bush committed war crimes, should not the 27 Democratic Senators who voted to authorize force be charged as well?

getting the world to love us is at best a vacuous notion. As caesar stated, let them hate as long as they fear. If any are dumb enough to believe that the u/n, the m/e and most of europe will suddenly become our good buddies there are luxury condo's for sale in the palestian territories. The nature of being the lone super power in the world does not lend itself to being everyone's friend. This fantasy that we must be everyone's firend is without merit

wildwest
You said it. I don't even understand what "getting them to LIKE us" means.
It's an inane idea.

And another thing, Huckabee
More American soldiers have given their blood and lives for others in the world than anyone in history.
American citizens give more to help the rest of the world than anyone in history.
When there's a disaster anywhere in the world, who shows up? America.
I'm sick of "we're the bad guys" rhetoric. If Huckabee has that kind of mentality and he's the nominee, I'll leave the presidential vote box blank.

What other choice do we have?
A NYC flaming liberal? Never.

McCain? Enough said.

Plastic Man? Though he did supposedly become conservative 2 seconds ago, why gamble in the primary?

Grumpy Old Sleepy? Sure he is a little conservative, but he is also overrated. Again why settle for less in the primary?

Huckabee is true to the social conservatives. I will be voting for him in the primary and I will be voting for him in the general. The social conservative issues are the most important issues we face today. And I am sad to see so many ignorant and hard headed fake conservatives.

the dims suffer from this notion that we can become popular with the rest of the world. That will never happen as they oppose the things we stand for. We spend huge amounts of money funding u/n operations and coming to the aid of the rest of the world when ever disaster occurs and still a large part of the world satyands against us. You can't buy friends but getting some credit for aiding others should gain some thanks

Saddam didn't allow full inspections
Saddam didn't agree to ANY inspections until our troops were nearly ready to cross the border. Even then he refused to fully comply. He said that President Palaces were off limits and couldn't be inspected, he delayed the surprise inspections longer than the inspectors wanted, etc.

Saddam was just stalling, knowing that we couldn't keep our troops in the ready to invade positions forever.

Comply means comply, not stall.
