Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

In every case where the administration has relented, either through fatigue or hopes of conciliation and compromise, the Democrats have been energized to greater partisan stridency, not less. The lesson is that you just make sharks hungrier when you feed them.

Don't think these rhetorical battles are merely partisan squabbles with minimal fallout. How can we expect the rest of the civilized world, to say nothing of the Arab street, to believe the United States is a force for good in the world, when one of its two major political parties -- with little resistance from the other -- portrays it as an evil empire bent on stealing the world's oil and torturing "freedom fighters"?

In particular, the ascendancy and acceptance of the "Bush lied" lie has had enormous consequences. The Wilson-Plame affair has been completely driven by it: from Sen. Chuck Schumer's demand for a special prosecutor, to the special prosecutor's insistence on prosecuting someone other than the real leaker and his successful strategy to make the Libby trial -- and the public's perception of it -- about Rove, Cheney and Bush. In the end, it was all based on the premise that the administration would go to any lengths to protect itself from lies it didn't tell and crimes it didn't commit.

But here we are, after the Libby verdict, already into the next phase of the Democrats' Orwellian propaganda circus, this one disguised as a bona fide congressional investigative hearing on Wilson-Plame. Republicans, instead of being outraged at the Democrats' fraudulent allegations, are barely even defending their honor.

Where were congressional Republicans when Valerie Plame testified to a completely different version of events concerning her role, or lack of it, in recommending her husband for the Niger trip? Where were they when their Democratic counterparts were sermonizing over the exposure of the covert status of the already exposed, non-covert CIA desk agent?

Where were they when Democrats were impugning and insulting attorney Victoria Toensing for refusing to conform her expert testimony concerning the law she helped write to the Bush-administration-is-corrupt template?

I can't help but wish that one day we'll see justice in these matters, a balancing of the scales in favor of reality. But until Republicans start fighting back, my wish can be nothing more than idle fantasy.

Get a spine Republicans!
A lie which goes unchallenged becomes a truth.

Why is it the Republicans will not stand up for themselves and correct lies being told by the Socialists (aka Democrats)?

This is one of the biggest disappointments of mine since George Bush took office. As the highest seated Republican it is his job to lead the party in the fight against the lies being told by the Socialists party and their supporters.

I know the mainstream media will ignore any Republican attempts to correct the lie and present the facts, but in this day and age there are so many other sources of information that any public rebuttal by Republicans would be seen and heard.

By not standing up and correcting the lies being told the Republicans do more to build up the Socialists claims and positions. Continue being silent and in 2008 Republicans will hand another election to the Socialists.

Utterly Pathetic
For years I have wondered why Republicans fight by Marquis of Queensbury rules against gutter fighters like Chuck Schumer and the Clintons. If I hear an Orrin Hatch or a Arlen Specter refer to "my distinguished colleague from across the aisle" one more time, I think I will throw up.
You've got to hand it to the Dems though, the only thing they stand for is continued power. The most important thing for them is whats good for the Democrat party, whats good for the country comes second. Does anyone ever see any major disagreements between Clinton, Levin,Schumer,Leahy, Kennedy, Biden, Pelosi, Murtha, Reid, Durbin, Dodd, Feinstein, Boxer,Obama, Rangel, Kerry, etc.? Yet we see RINOs like McCain, Lindsay Graham, Specter, Hagel, Warner, etc only too glad to stab fellow Republicans in the back in a lame attempt to make the NY Times happy.
Yet lets face it, the most pathetic RINO in this situation has to be President Bush.
When Clinton came in, every Republican in a high position had to go (including all previous U.S. attornies.) President Bush decided to keep many Clinton lackeys, including Transportation Secretary, Norman Maneta, the man who decided against racial profiling at U.S. airports even after 9/11. Bush's justice dept. let Sandy Burger off with a slap on the wrist for stealing and destroying classified documents and prosecuted and convicted Scooter Libby for having a poor memory. Bush's justice dept left the NY Times alone after they put classified material on their front page but convicted those 2 immigration agents for shooting an illegal alien drug dealer. Bush feted Chappaquiddick Teddy and the Clintons at the White House and was rewarded when they called him every name in the book. George H.W. Bush even gave Teddy some sort of patriotism award and then was thanked by having Teddy lambaste his son on an almost daily basis. I could go on and on.
Not long ago, the Repubs. controlled both houses of Congress and the White House, the Dems were on the ropes. They have thrown that all away. (And just wait until the Dems and RINO Repubs. give the illegal invaders in the U.S. their amnesty which Bush will happily sign. These 12 - 20 million invaders will join the party that gives them the most goodies at taxpayer expense. They will be creating an almost untouchable Democrat electoral majority.)
Utterly pathetic.
