Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Liberals claim to hold Sen. John McCain in high regard because he is supposedly a straight talker. He tells it like it is. Wednesday evening, MSNBC's Chris Matthews asked on "Hardball," "Is John McCain back on that straight talk express? We actually like him there."

Whether or not Matthews intended this, his question reveals his opinion that McCain, at best, only talks straight part of the time. If he had to come "back" to the truth, he must have been dwelling before in "untruth," which means he is hardly to be revered as a reliably honest person. But liberals are so ends-oriented they apparently miss the self-defeating nature of their praise for McCain.

Liberals are obviously also clueless that McCain is not talking straight on the very occasions they say he is. They laud him for accusing Bush of not leveling with Americans about the difficulties we would face in Iraq. But despite daily opportunities for more than three years, McCain has never made this bogus charge before. The smell of the presidential roses, though, must have overpowered him this week and compelled him to kick the president when he is down.

McCain said, "It grieves me so much that we have not told the American people how tough and difficult this task [Iraq] would be. It has contributed enormously to the frustration that Americans feel today, because they were led to believe that this would be some kind of a day at the beach, which many of us fully understood from the beginning would be a very, very difficult undertaking."

What? This is straight talk? Instead of falling all over themselves in awe of McCain, Matthews and his fellow liberals should be registering utter disgust with McCain for his patent opportunism in concocting this canard.

Matthews could just as easily have phrased his opening question: "Is John McCain, the fair-weather conservative, back on board for now, promoting liberal ideas and trashing President Bush again? We like him there."

Matthews and his Old Media colleagues swoon over Sen. McCain every time he says something pleasing to the liberal ear, whether it's criticism of President Bush, denigration of Christian conservatives or praise of campaign finance reform. To liberals, straight talk from Republicans is not telling the truth, but touting the liberal line.

McCain has won the hearts of liberals everywhere by attacking conservatives and Republicans because they believe he does so with particular credibility -- as a Republican, a war hero and war hawk -- and thus with particular effectiveness. McCain's betrayal of Republicans is so delicious to liberals that they're willing to forgive him for his frequent transgressions, such as his sometimes vocal support for President Bush's handling of the Iraq War.

If they weren't self-deluded, liberals would understand that it isn't just McCain's failure to make this criticism before that reveals his dishonesty on the subject. His gratuitous, convenient Bush-bashing statement also doesn't square with the truth.

From the very beginning President Bush has warned that the hurdles in Iraq would be difficult and burdensome. He never promised a quick ending for this global war, or for the struggle in Iraq, but precisely the opposite. Likewise, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld incurred the everlasting enmity of the press for refusing to fall into its trap of providing concrete answers on the projected costs and duration of the war. These things, he said defiantly, are "unknowable."

He told one reporter, "There's never been a war that was predictable as to length, casualty, or cost in the history of mankind."

It appears McCain is "back" on the forked-tongue express, claiming the administration didn't level with the American people on the difficulties in Iraq, when it most certainly did -- in explicit terms.

Regardless of whether liberals are willing to jump back in bed with McCain, it's doubtful sufficient Republicans will fall for his act again. He was always at best a long shot for the GOP presidential nomination because of his regrettable advocacy of campaign finance reform, his unpredictable temperament, his social liberalism and his pronounced disdain for Christian conservatives, which he reaffirmed quite recently.

The only chance he had hinged on his steadfast support for the war effort and his refusal to side with partisan Democrats who have born false witness against President Bush in saying he lied about Iraq. With his latest shameless utterance, McCain has virtually sabotaged his already dim chances for the Republican nomination -- and rightly so.

You have no shame. Or perhaps you have brain-rot.

"The Draft Dodger-in-Chief" was your boy, Slick Willy.

The current Commander-in-Chief flew F102 Delta Daggers for the Air National Guard. This is a supersonic interceptor. Its mission was to intercept incoming USSR bombers. This is not an easy aircraft to fly, particularly to land. There was no mission for this aircraft in Vietnam. He has an Honorable Discharge.

McCain
He is certainly not the ideal candidate for conservatives, but if he can cast himself as an anti-spending, tough on foreign policy and for states rights, he has a good shot at picking up enough GOP voters to get the nomination.

Bush has not been the ideal conservative by any means. I respect him personally and his willingness to stick by his beliefs, but on the domestic side he has been a huge disappointment.

Bing
I'm glad to hear one liberal who is not afraid to proudly admit he/she IS one.

However, it is funny how you are so easy to quote Bush / Cheney on the WMD issue but refuse to "rewind" a couple more years and read all the quotes coming out of the Democrat camp (Clinton, et-al) about "undisputed" evidence that Saddam had WMDs.

"A man under 30 who is not a liberal has no heart, but a man over 30 who is not a conservative has no brain." - Winston Churchill

It is absurd!
To suggest that liberals like John McCain is a laugh!I'm a liberal,I get the literature, listen to the liberal talk radio and have not heard one liberal say anything positive about John McCain! They've all been pointing out what a two faced ass he is!Maybe we have more in common with y'all than you think cause this is way off the mark!Incidently, you are also wrong about the "swifties" as few of them actually served with Kerry, many admitted to lying, none of their stories checked out and the man in charge admitted holding a serious grudge re: Kerry's comments to Congress. An act of the utmost courage to relay the stories of soldiers who had been put in a terrible position by chicken hawks in Washington. And if you think that he threw HIS medals on to the White House lawn, you're mistaken;they were other vets who asked him to do it.It was the swift boaters who were the slanderers and all you have to do is the slightest bit of research and it's pretty clear. It's neo-cons who do the slandering and it's all over this page.Blame Clinton, LBJ anyone with a D after their name or any one that doesn't cling to your narrow world view.A view that has our national standing in the world at an all time low, a military stretched too thin, creating more terrorists than we can kill and a government that is willing to spy without warrant on it's own citizens, lies to Congress, and hides behind executive privaledge while racking up the most massive foreign debt owed to Saudi Arabia and Communist China. And you people are focused on trying to claim liberals even remotely like John McCain!Believe me,you don't know anything about liberals.Wherever you get your impressions from,be it Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly(or is he liberal too because he said five or six words critical of bush?)is feeding you a line of BS.You're free to have any opinion you want in this great country, but you don't know where liberals are coming from at all.You mischaracterize us and mis judge us.You demonize us and your animosity couldn't be more misdirected.Another thing,a definition of a lie to most folks is when someone says something to purposely mislead others. If you define "lie" narrowly enough to mean "technically accurate,"you are correct bush and cheney haven't lied.It depends on what your defintion of lie is if I may paraphrase Clinton, not liberal by the way.(Before you get all wiggy on that,I'm proud to be a liberal and have no reason to shelter Bill Clinton from that label. He simply isn't one.Regardless you have to be naive to think they did not know full well that information they were peddling to the American people and to Congress was a very slanted view based on bad intelligence they chose over conflicting and more likely.Look at all the quotes you want from bush and cheney and the proof is in the pudding. They lead all of us to believe that there was "no doubt."No doubt they had reconstituted their WMD program, their nuclear program,etc.etc.Despite all the people who told them the information they were telling us was dubious at best and eventually they have all been effectively slandered.Remember Valerie Plame? The once undercover CIA operative you refuse to believe was actually undercover?Seems the CIA disagrees with you.And the Justice Department headed at the time by John Ashcroft also disagrees with you.All the folks telling you otherwise have been playing you like a fiddle. She worked for a front company Brewster Jennings, also had their cover blown. hey were interested in what Iran's nuclear intentions were. That info might be helpful now.But your bush cheney team thought it was in the country's best interest to try and slander Joe Wilson.Who never said dick's office sent him to Niger by the way.Try reading the actual article for yourself.I got more bad news for you; most real conservatives and real Republicans are wise to all of this so your campaign of disproving bushcheneyricerumsfeld lies is futile.Look at the content of what they said and tell me if they were honest or if they were trying to mislead.
Muslim bashing isn't helpful either, talk like that breeds hatred, pushes moderates to radicalism and makes it easy for jihadists to recruit.Everything I have said here can be substantiated with a couple of Google searches and some of your time.I highly recommend doing some research as I don't expect you to take my word for it.Now if you'll excuse me I have to outside and take down my all weather, made in the USA American flag because the sun is going down.

McCain is not the one
Maybe it's just me, but I think it's only liberals who think McCain should be president.

McCain slandered the Swifties in '04 (and he's ex-Navy!), so I wrote him a letter (which he never answered). I told McCain that I thought that his support of John Kerry was traitorous.

McCain is a major RINO. Serving as a POW doesn't endow a person with heroism. Supporting Kennedy and Kerry's socialist agendas is treasonous.

supporting troops
To say one can support the troops but not the war is like saying one can support the firemen or policemen but not support putting out the fires or catching criminals.
Of course, silly, no one wants war, but it's sometimes necessary. Or maybe you wish you'd taken a ride in one of the targeted planes. See, it's like this: Islamofascists do not care who they kill, where they kill, how they kill, when they kill. And the "why" of the kill is, cuz they want to rule everywhere.

I spoke in haste
I guess McCain is not running this year. Notice how all the Republican Senators who are not up for re-election are backstabbing the people on immigration?

Klinton...
...Simpson's episode...

Bill Clinton: "No, thank you, Lisa. For teaching kids everywhere a valuable lesson: If things don't go your way, just keep complaining until your dreams come true."

Marge: "That's a pretty lousy lesson."

Bill Clinton: "Hey, I'm a pretty lousy president."

To those in Arizona
If it looks like a Democratic Senate anyway, well, hell, go ahead and vote for McCain's opponent. You already got him voting liberal. Maybe it will give the next Arizona Republican cause for notice.

If you put Patriotic Duty above politics well go Kick your Godfather Lyndon Baines Johnson in the groin. He was a Ltcdr in the Navy as well as a Congressman. When he was told he could not hold both a Naval Commission and Representative, he quickly resigned his Naval Commission. Oh, and by the way, he shamelessly awarded himself a Silver Star for flying around an empty part of the Pacific....

Clinton Fan
Bubba Bill was actually PARDONED from a felony by President jimmy carter. Yeah, talk about Draft Dodgers you idiot, Bubba was all about draft dodging.

Clinto Fan
In which branch of the military did you serve? If the answer is 'None' I suggest you shut your effecuking mouth.

Proud Infidel
If McCain is on a White House tour, better hide the silver.

Two Questions
Two questions that EVERY Federal and State Leaders needs to be asked!

Question no 1: How much do YOU earn as a Senator from this great State that you serve per year? Please all income from your position as Senator?

Question no 2: Do you know of ONE Elected Official in Washington DC, or any Elected Official in any United States of American State, either now in Office or that is running for ANT Office, Federal or State that REALLY cares what the majority of the people they represent desire?

Rights of Passage
If the Republicans need a true blue military hero that is still walking the walk, they better grab Oliver North.

ClintonFan: your original post...
... was shown to be lacking in intellectual rigor, to say the least, and this is the best you can come back with?

Okay, I'll concede, you've absolutely got me. You're right, Clinton didn't personally spit on me.

To further your display of intellectual want, you wrote the following: "If you don't blame all anti-war demonstrators for what happened to you, I want blame all white people for the attacks that I suffered during the Civil Rights movement"

I'm sure in your mind there's an analogy there; please let me disabuse you of the notion. Your attempt would make more sense if you substitute "KKK members" for "white people"; obviously not the argument you want to make because of the parallel between the KKK and the anti-war folks in that framing. Not having written that, your argument falls apart, as there were a lot of white people who supported the civil rights movement. However, there were no anti-war people who supported the war, simply by definition.

Brush up on logic and syllogism, then try again.

Hannibal: I had to laugh
You wrote: " think McCain, like other true conservetives around the country"

That's a riot, man!

Bryan and NRA
Why would it even be stated that Bush was excused to do campaign work. If vietnam was so important, aren't you angry that he would put a political campaign above his patriotic duty. Any excuse for the bushter.
By the way, you can yell until you're blue in the face, but any reasonable person knows that support for the troops doesn't mean mindless support for a war. It's a good thing that the vast majority of Americans don't buy into right-wing spin.

By the way, did you actually see BILL CLINTON spitting on you during thess rallies? What you described was atrocious behavior, but Bill Clinton can't be responsible for the behavior of all Anti-war demonstrators. I'll make a deal with you. If you don't blame all anti-war demonstrators for what happened to you, I want blame all white people for the attacks that I suffered during the Civil Rights movement.

Limbaugh on McCain
I think that Limbaugh has named McCain as well as anyone could. It seems that too many Republicans have allowed the great compromiser who has worked with such well known libs as Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton has tried to tell us what he really is. The leader of the RINOs and the Silly Seven of the Fab Fourteen is nothing but an opportunist and I can't support an opportunist for President. His support of amnesty and now his words against Bush have made him appear to be just what I have always thought he is.

If McCain somehow is awarded the Republican nomination for President I will have to break a 36 year tradition for me. I will have to watch that election as I have been able to vote for all Republicans since Nixon but just won't vote for Hillary instead of McCain. I certainly won't vote for the Republican if he is it. He doesn't deserve the job and I won't allow my vote to help him get it.

Re: McCain
Yes, 1 + 1 = 11. You assume that since McCain "is back on the Straight Talk Express," he has been less than truthful. Is it not possible that he has merely been silent at times when though he disagreed with the President, he gave him his support as the Commander-in-Chief. I think McCain, like other true conservetives around the country, is speaking out more and looking more like his old straight talking self.

mCcAIN THE SNAKE
He is a forked tongued devil !! He only thinks of his career and does not care about the American Citizen, who pays taxes - he is supposed to represent our voice.

During a July, 2006 town meeting in Prescott, AZ, McCain stated, "I will not diginify that question with an answer....", when he was asked about the American citizens and children who were being financially hurt by the illegal aliens. He refuses recognize how the large majority of legal American taxpaying citizens of Arizona feel about illegal aliens (they want them deported now and stopped at the border.) He is patronizing the Hispanic population, so he can make his run at the White House - he is a sellout now, and will always be!!! He was a large part of the Keating Five, this speaks volumes regarding his character.

If anyone votes for McCain, they are selling their hard earned American soveriegnty.

NRA Gunny: absolutely right
BTW, the fast-movers go faster than 400; think Mach 1+, mach 1 being about 700 knots at sea level. That's about 800 mph.

High danger level is right. That's how Dean Martin's kid was killed, flying an NG training flight with his squadron, F4s I think, and he flew right into a mountain out near Palm Springs.

ClintoFan: apparently you didn't...
... live through the times. Your allegations are baseless.

As a matter of fact, Bush volunteered for Vietnam service and was refused. That's a fact.

Further, your statement that the National Guard of that time didn't get activated and go to Nam is simply and completely wrong. A lot of Johnson's buildup was accomplished by federalizing and activating NG units.

Secondly, if you had lived through the times you'd know that your statement that "CLINTON never demonstrated against our troops. He demonstrated against what he thought was an unjust war" is absurd, as that distinction is one the Left learned to make decades later so that their "patriotism" wouldn't be questioned. In those days protesters absolutely insulted the troops. I had a lot of hippy-types call me baby-killer, throw crap at me, and all kinds of other disgusting behavior.

Not even a good try, there, bud. The memory is seared into my Bio-RAM.

Why McCain Will Never be President
The main reason the driveby media are so nice to McCain is that they badly want him to be the Republican nominee in 2008. If he is nominated they will immediatly turn on him, dig up any and all his faults (see comments above), attack him without mercy, and insure that the hildabeast becomes our next president. I wish he could see that the liberal press is only using him.

Loud Infidel
I'm very well aware of the fact that CLINTON dodged the draft, and if he questioned McCain's military service I would come down on him just as hard. The point is liberals, of which I don't claim to be, acknowledge that CLINTON was a draft dodger. He even acknowledges it. Why can't you right-wingers do the same about Dubya's service. And I'm very sure you know that the national guard of today is not like the national guard of generations ago. Reservist back then stayed stateside. Do you really think his daddy pulled all those strings to get his son into an elite guard unit because he wanted to go to war. Dubya rarely attended drill in the guard. That shows you how concerned he was about the war.
CLINTON never demonstrated against our troops. He demonstrated against what he thought was an unjust war. That requires real patiotism.
As president, war may be an unnecessary evil, but it should also be just. You can never say that CLINTON put troops in harms way for political motive. Stop being so delusional.

McCain's accomplishments:
Keating Five

Gang of 14

McCain/Feingold: biggest crippling of First Amendment rights in history

McCain/Kennedy: Open the floodgates to illegal aliens

And look at who he's coupled his name with: Russ Feingold, and Ted "Chappie" Kennedy.

That says it all for me.

Arizona sick of mcstain.
We desperately need clean freash blood in the repubican party here in AZ, the last batch before "Janet" ripped us off blind for $400,000,000.
Mcain has disapointed most of us here in AZ, his one saving grace is his support of the war, his support of illegals will be his epitath.

What a hypocrite Clinton fan is
To make light of McCains service to his country while the Draft Dodger-in-Chief currently in the white house gets a pass is laughable. Maybe if Bush had fought in Vietnam, he and the neocons that he surrounds himself with would have a better understanding of the atrocities of war.
------------
It's just unbelievable the levels of hypocrisy Clinton supporters will sink to. Hey Einstein, it's funny what convenient memories you have. Not only was Clinton a draft-dodger but an active participant in demonstrations against Americas military. Bush at least served in the National Guard and the last time I checked they fight in Americas wars too. The other thing you hypocrites overlook is the draft-dodger Clinton himself had this country wage war against Serbia. Where were all you so-called "antiwar" people at then? Oh, I get it, you are only "antiwar" when a Republican is in the White House. You are as phony as your heros McCain and Clinton.

How McCain et al Help America's Enemies
I am a resident of Arizona and wrote to Senator McCain about his comment on NBC's Meet The Press that, "the weight of evidence has got to be that we've got to adjudicate these (Guantanamo detainees) people's cases." His response to my letter was that he felt the United States' image was suffering because of "alleged and documented abuses" of the detainees, and that the United States should hold itself up to a "higher standard", with which I VEHEMENENTLY disagree. I believe the US should follow THE LETTER of the applicable international law with regard to the UNLAWFUL combatant detainees as an incentive for other signatory countries (and INDIVIDUALS) to do likewise. To hold ourselves up to a "higher standard" by conferring special treatment (e.g., POW status) on unlawful combatants is to undermine the law that is intended to discourage unlawful combat, much like making no distinction between criminals and honest citizens would undermine civil law. McCain’s letter never defined just how high “highest” is.

In an article for frontpagemag.com http://frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=23176 , Peter Beinart "seeks legitimacy" for America’s power and also holds America up to the "highest standards" of democracy and human rights. For him, the morality of a nation is determined NOT by its ACTIONS measured against an objective standard such as international law, but INVERSELY to its perceived degree of military power. To this Leninist way of thinking, because America is strong, it is immoral and needs to be made "legitimate". The fact of the matter is, America will NEVER live up to McCain’s and Beinart’s "highest standards". Having jettisoned objective international law as a standard and adopted a subjective, undefined one in its place, McCain, Beinart, and other liberal Left-thinkers, will ALWAYS seek ever more higher standards no matter how well America performs or how high they set the standards. The fact of the matter is the more America does to overcome its shortcomings, THE WORSE – NOT BETTER – America appears. The reason for this is built into the dynamics of human nature. Very simply, the more perfect America is, the more unbearable and unjust seem even its remaining imperfections, because the standards, once met, are always raised in their minds.

But what about the rest of the world, specifically totalitarian regimes and terrorist organizations that snub their noses with impunity at international law and any standard of human decency, and draw not a single word of criticism from the McCain/Beinart/media camp? When asked about this apparent double standard, they respond with something along the lines of, "Well, I’m concerned about us, not them," or "We don’t really expect them to follow the law."

Now, think about that. Why should rogue regimes and terrorists obey international law if there ARE no expectations for them to do so? McCain and Beinart thus have inadvertently CONTRIBUTED TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR ENEMIES.

Finally, this philosophy has (at least) one other strange aspect to it. It places the highest value on a DIPLOMATIC solution. So high a value is placed on negotiations that one is tempted to think the objective is negotiations for their own sake and not a meaningful peace. But think about that idea too. McCain and Beinart AREN’T CONCERNED that MURDERING OUTLAWS don’t follow existing, established international law; BUT THEY HAVE CONVINCED THEMSELVES, AND TRY TO GET US TO BELIEVE, THAT THOSE VERY SAME OUTLAWS, THROUGH SOME DIPLOMATIC MIRACLE, WILL BE GOOD THIS TIME IF ONLY WE CAN JUST GET THEM TO PROMISE IT – AGAIN!

As they were at Munich in 1938, the liberal democratic nations will have been stuck once again with a "Peace of Paper" which is nothing more than a guarantee of a larger future war. And who will pay the price of this repeated folly? Certainly not McCain or Beinart.

The fraud known as McCain
When this bum isn't selling out his country to illegal invaders from south of the border he's spewing anything but "straight talk". I have seen Bush on numerous occasions saying the war on terrorism is going to be a long one with casualties. I have never seen Bush imply it's going to be a "day at the beach". McCain should forget about the White House this "straight talker" illegal invader supporter sellout has no business anywhere near the White House unless it's on a tour.

McCain as a politician
I have NEVER been a fan of Sen. McCain personally, as I've seen on countless occasions he has demonstrated himself as a "politician" in the truest since of the word. NEVER has he demonstrated an ability to lead. I cite this based on his convenient ability to demonstrate socially liberal ideals, which have shown the American people repeatedly to be failures. Case in point, he "leads" in senate reform of campaign financing. I dispute this assertion vehemently. In fact, what he did was to form an alliance with social liberals on the senate floor to promote (and eventually pass) a bill that is clearly unconstitutional. This "art of compromise" does not make a leader, it makes a compromiser (i.e. a politican). This is the formula for disaster for a president because compromisers do not effectively demonstrate a principled approach to governing. Instead, they send mixed messages which political and national opponents use as weapons against the compromiser. They use the weapons to great effect to diminish the capability and effectiveness of the office of president.
The example of senate campaign finance reform is not the only example, but for the sake of brevity it is the one I've cited. In addition, in my opinion, it is one of the most flagrant abuses of his position. There are others including his proposed ban on torture, which in it's woeful ambiguity leads to the treatment of enemy detainees as criminal detainees. I won't even touch on the great senator's position on judical nominees or immigration reform.

Therefore, Sen. McCain, while being a celebrity favorite of unprincipled disciples of liberalism, he would be a disaster for America and less importantly the republican party.

McCain's A Hero
It's a shame that McCain is villified because he has enough integrity to not follow any party's talking points 100%. Some of the letters on this blog are cruel and saddening. To make light of McCains service to his country while the Draft Dodger-in-Chief currently in the white house gets a pass is laughable. Maybe if Bush had fought in Vietnam, he and the neocons that he surrounds himself with would have a better understanding of the atrocities of war. In my opinion, McCain's war experience leads him to believe that the horrors of war should be the absolute last option for our men and women of the armed services. This war should have never been started, but I don't believe the we should leave now. That doesn't change the fact this this war has been mismanaged so bad that it goes beyond imcompetence. Yet, not one person responsible for disaster has been replaced. What's even worse, far too many people accept it. It's disheartening that so many people's allegiance is to this administration and not to our soldiers.

McCain
I have never cared for Sen. McCain, and although I respect him for his bravery and suffering during his captivity by the North Vietnamese, I could never quite articulate why.

Mr. Limbaugh, in his column, has chrystalized the reasons why, unless he is the Republican presidential nominee in '08 (in which case I will hold my nose and vote against the Democrat nominee). I wouldn't want to elect him dogcatcher!

articulate why.

Hillary over McCain
Excellent column, but it doesn't discuss the mental deficiencies of this man. He's lost some brain function, IMO. This is evident whenever you watch him on C-Span, trying to put together some kind of lucid thought.

Even aside from that, I'd never vote for him. If he's the Republican nominee, I'll vote for Hillary!

McCain and Lieberman
Maybe we can make a trade, you know, like in baseball. McCain for Lieberman, straight up, no cash. They're both social liberals, but at least Joe is well regarded for being honest.

McCain thinks Republicans are ready
With the constant attacks on President Bush on the war in Iraq and the daily propaganda by the media favoring the terrorist and demoralizing the American people, McCain seems to think the Republican's and Conservatives have been softened enough to hear liberal rhetoric coming out of his mouth. Before you figure out McCain's agenda with him gaining your trust he stabs you in the back before you knew it happened. I guess he learned that while he was a prisoner of war when he volunteered to remain behind with the other prisoners so he could give them aid. There was a question there also who received the aid from McCain. His comrades or the communist? The Democrats are rejoicing that McCain has come back home with the assaults on President Bush about misleading the American people on the war in Iraq. McCain never left. The Democrats have always kept McCain on a tight lease. Why do you think Ted Kennedy is with McCain at all times. McCain provides Ted Kennedy with whatever qestions he has about the Republican party. Again, who is McCain providing aid to this time, the Republicans or the Democrats with his assaults on President Bush.

McCain
First principle: Any Republican that the liberal/socialists like is automatically disqualified from my conservative vote.

Have you all forgotten that McCain was the only Republican caught up in the Keating Five scandal. He got a pass on that one as did his fellow war and space hero Democrat John Glenn. It didn't take very long for either to turn crooked once they fooled enough people to get elected.

I knew Glenn in the 60's through my professional duties as an aerospace engineer and he was always rightfully regarded as a genuine hero and straight arrow until he turned to the dark side of liberal/socialist politics. Corruption soon set in. Glenn's wing man in Korea was the great Ted Williams with whom I had the pleasure of sharing a few trout streams with as a boy.

McCain's background, if exposed to the light of day, might be less than heroic. I have been told by so many retired Navy Lt. Commander carrier pilots who knew him from training and carrier service that I tend to believe their allegations that McCain was less than an outstanding pilot in training or combat whose flying status was only saved by the fact that he was the son and grandson of Admirals. His deficiencies in training were diplomatically waived and he went to the fleet a danger to both himself and his shipmates. His main claim to fame was to get shot down, captured by the enemy, and survived a brutal captivity. We tend to make little distinction between true heroism and misfortune folowed by stoic endurance.

I do not question his bravery. Anyone who straps on a fighter jet and goes in harms way is no coward. I do question his competance, clarity of thought, and yes, honesty as a member of the Senate. I was stunned by how quickly both he and Glenn drifted into political greed. It goes without saying that if McCain was nominated I would have to sit the election out. We have had too many dishonorable men sit in the oval office when one would be too many.

McCain
This column is absurd. McCain has stood by Bush on Iraq despite the fact that the Administration's tactics in Iraq have been disastrously implemented. Rumsfeld should have fired years ago. Many Republicans may be defeated in 06 due to the failed policies of this unpopular Administration. And Condi too needs to go. Her forcing Israel to accept the useless UN ceasfire resolution handed victory for the terrorists. Dating back to the 2000 primaries, McCain has always been stronger on foreign policy and military matters than Bush. On Homeland Security too, Bush's appointees are not up to the challenges. He needs to appoint people (regardless of party) who are more competent.

Arizonan against McCain
I am disgusted by McCain's antics - unfortunately, here in AZ we are not blessed with any adequate conservative alternative come election time - the Hezbocrats here are a worse choice, so we're stuck with the lesser of two evils. I can only hope this year that our Republican candidates for Governor don't eat their own and we can take back that office and get rid of Janet NapoliReno.

I once supported McCain
But when he was able to be buddy-buddy with John Kerry, who undoubtedly added to the misery suffered by McCain and others as POWs, I lost all respect.

McCain
McCain included himself in the "some of us knew". If that were so, why didn't he level with the American people?

McCain has been in battle. He should know that war is not predictable. He should know that "victory" is an exit strategy and the only acceptable one once you have committed troops to go into harms way!

He and any other elected official who is undercutting the effort has no right to be in office. I hope the voters will send them that message.

McPain
How about the "Double-talk express?"

Go away McCain
The man's a buffoon. It's only a matter of time before he renders himself completely irrelevant in National Politics.... More power to him.

Not McCain for President BUT TOM DELAY!
I would not vote for McCain or any of the names
that are on Republican list at the present - but put Tom DeLay on the List and I would vote for him and all his baggage- for the President for the America People. For One he is staight forward! And all these others have as much or more garbage attched them. When trouble to him the GOP showed what they were made of they run like rabbits away from this man. I believe he could defeat the so call "Most powerful woman in World" Miss Hillary, McCain will not nor the others that thinks they have something to offer.
Tom Delay is the One! So lets hear more on him!
I'm sick of Mc Cain.

Amen
McCain is a sleazy and dishonest politician. He has no core beliefs that supercede his ambition. I don't believe he will get the Republican nod to run for President.

The picture showing McCain listening to Bush speaks volumns. The envy and hatred on his face says it all. What a creep.

McCain and Muslims
Never trust or believe what EITHER says. They both lie for convenience and self.

Hooray, David! Great column!
Let that RINO bonehead McCain have it with both barrels.

I love it!
