Dean's Democrats step in it again

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Democrats will be hard pressed to deny their extremism as long as they have mad Howard Dean as their party spokesman. Then again, cashiering Dean wouldn't solve all their problems on that front either, given their leadership's propensity to take the wrong side on important national security issues.

On the day Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki was addressing a joint meeting of Congress seeking America's continued support for Iraq, Dean said, "The Iraqi prime minister's an anti-Semite. We don't need to spend $200 and $300 and $500 billion bringing democracy in Iraq to turn it over to people who believe that Israel doesn't have a right to defend itself and who refuse to condemn Hezbollah."

These are interesting words, coming from a man whom Sen. Joseph Lieberman attacked during the Democratic primary campaign in 2003 for saying, "it's not our place to take sides," in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Dean later tried to squirm out of his comment -- he even tried to blame Karl Rove for launching an e-mail campaign to circulate his problematic statement -- but there was no way he could erase his utterances.

Dean's hypocrisy aside, what about other Democratic leaders? Surely they are standing solidly behind the democratically elected Iraqi leader. Think again.

Democrats urged House Speaker Denny Hastert to cancel al Maliki's invitation to address Congress -- saying that if the prime minister's positions are at odds with U.S. foreign policy goals, then he should not be permitted to address American leaders. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Barbara Boxer boycotted the speech, and Sens. Dick Durbin and Jack Reed actually issued a public response to it, as if al Maliki is their political opponent.

I can certainly identify with the displeasure over al Maliki's refusal to condemn Hezbollah, but am mindful that he faces a different set of political complexities there. And while Iraq is our ally and its transformation to democracy is a wonderful development, I don't share the sanguine view of some that democracy is a panacea that will lead, for example, to its adoption of pro-Israeli sentiments.

But with the Democratic Party's fair-weather attitude toward Israel over the years and the Left's oft-expressed sympathy for Palestinian grievances against Israel, it's hard to take seriously their feints toward outrage at the prime minister's position on Hezbollah. It's hard not to laugh -- given their unwavering opposition to President Bush -- when they say al Maliki should not be given a platform because he opposes U.S. foreign policy goals. But it isn't hard to conclude that what is motivating them to criticize him is their unfailing policy to oppose everything we do in Iraq.

Indeed if the Democrats weren't so preprogrammed to oppose all things Iraq all the time, they might have been heartened by the prime minister's message to Congress: his affirmation of Iraq's commitment to democracy, his strong denunciation of terrorism, his expressions of gratitude to the United States, and his earnest plea that we not abandon our mission.

But considering the anti-Iraq corner in which Democrats have placed themselves, it would be difficult for them to applaud al Maliki's optimism, much less his confirmation that Iraq is the front line in the war on terror.

While Sen. Durbin said some parts of the prime minister's speech were encouraging, he couldn't pass up the opportunity to condemn America's losses and expenditures in Iraq and to chide Iraq for not doing enough to take over the primary role in defending itself. Most offensively, he scolded Iraqis for not demonstrating a sufficient willingness to demonstrate they are willing to die for their own cause. Presumably Durbin is unaware of the Iraqi elections where Iraqi voters risked their lives to participate and of the huge number of Iraqi casualties in this war.

Durbin's co-critic, Sen. Jack Reed, took the podium to contradict al Maliki's favorable description of Iraq's economy and his "oversimpli[fication]" of the situation in Iraq. Reed said, "[Al Maliki] needs more than determination and public statements … ; he needs a plan …" Deja vu, anyone?

Ask yourselves: Why are Democrats so determined to slug the prime minister in the gut and discourage and insult the Iraqis who are caught in a life-threatening struggle for freedom by refusing to let stand -- even for a few brief diplomatic moments -- al Maliki's encouraging words about Iraqi progress?

Simple: Democrats have staked out their position on Iraq, and they will try to destroy anything or anyone who gets in their way.

How could they compliment this guy?
Their whole future is dependent on Iraq blowing up. They know if he comes across as too pro Israel it will set a wave of violence in Iraq. What's a few thousand Iraqi lives compared to their political future. Or even a few more American soldiers. If they can help Democracy fail, they are better off. This is where there manic Bush hatred hurts the country. If we were united this would settle quicker. Terrorists wouldn't be encouraged to last until the Appeasers take over here. This was one of the most craven acts in our history. They insult a man who is risking his life for freedom of his people. They are cowards. There are no consequences to their actions except high praise from the nutroots (clarification: nutroots is not a misspelling of netroots, it is a synonym.

TYPICAL
Denial of freedom is what the democrats are all about. FDR denied European Jews the freedom of the USA and sent several boatloads back to die in the Holocaust. FDR gave Eastern Europe to Stalin at Yalta thereby enslaving millions in Communism and guaranteeing a Cold War for 50 years. Truman and the UN denied the unification of Korea when US and South Korean troops were standing on the banks of the Yalu. JFK made sure that Castro had a free hand in Cuba and then compounded the error with a bogus embargo that has only ensured that the Cuban people suffer, not Castro. LBJ did his level best to make sure Vietnam failed and then Hanoi John and a liberal Congress made sure when they yanked the rug out from under SVN forces. Carter and Iran. Clinton and Rwanda.

C'Mon, this ain't a TREND, it's HISTORY! The Democrats are the party of "I got mine, screw you." Ted Kennedy bloviating about the poor and our dependence on foreign energy yet HE blocks the building of a wind farm on Cape Cod because it blocks his VIEW! I guess being rich and able to afford all of the gas, oil, electricity makes it hard for him to understand that cheap affordable electricity is what the common American needs. So much for libs being for the "little" man. The GOP at least encourages capitalism but the Dems only care about imposing more pain on us while they wine and dine.

Reagan pegged the libs right: "If it moves they tax it, if it still moves they tax it again, when it stops moving they subsidize it."

Who's to blame?
Ted Kennedy, Boxer, Dean, etc. used to give me ulcers at their ridiculous and hypocritical comments and actions. However, I have to remind myself that we do live in a democratic society and these idiots can only continue to screw up our country if we continue to elect them. The American voters are to blame for these problems; conservatives for not rallying behind Republican candidates (or even voting) and demoRATs for being stuck in some robotic ignorant trance.

We have to do better at getting out the facts and getting conservatives into office. I'm convinced that anyone with any actual knowledge of the issues would never vote for Ted Kennedy and his ilk - Americans cannot be that stupid.

Gunny
Good post.

Re: the Reagan quote, wasn't the second step: "If it still moves, regulate it"?

"Ask yourselves: Why are Democrats so determined to slug the prime minister.."

I did. The answer, as always, is that anything which might reflect favorably on Bush and the Republican Party (such as success in Iraq) is evil by definition and must be relentlessly criticized. And the MSM are ever ready to help.

I stand corrected
BrianR, with his usual keen eye for detail, spotted my error. Sorry, not enough caffiene in me that early for 100% clarity of thinking.

Does that make me a democrat for few minuntes every day?

Gunny
Right on! No more needs be said!

Howard-The-Nut-Bag-Dean
The informed citizen/voter HAS to see that Howard Dean is hurting his party, and stepping in it all the time. I say "Keep talk'in Howard!"
The more he talks, the worse Democrats look. I just wish more people who are interested in politics would wise-up and turn conservative.
P.S. Flagwaver, GunnyG -- right on!

Glad he brought up Dean
I'm still waiting for "Liberal Dialog" to answer why, if the wingnuts and moonbats at DailyKos represent only a few thousand fringe leftists, Dean (and Reid) felt it necessary to go to Vegas to genuflect at the YearlyKos Konvention. Maybe my wait will end today...

Take a STAND!
Write to Howard Dean at the DNC and ENCOURAGE him to speak out against the evil Republicans. I do it OFTEN! The more he yammers, the more we gain. Might as well do as Lenin did and use the "useful idiots" to better our cause.

GO HOWIE GO!

Democrats & Ted Kennedy
The fact that Ted Kennedy keeps being re-elected by the folks in Mass reminds me that some forms of stupidity are contagious. It is possible that his voting body have no moral compass at all and are so concerned about their place on the planet that the rest of us can simply wither and die.

More Dean "droppings"
The more Dean pollinates the public with his "droppings", the more I believe he is on Roves payroll. Keep up the good work Howard.

Ted Drunkennedy
Roscoe, I worked as a limo driver as a seocnd job while stationed at MCAS Beaufort. I asked a VIP from Mass about this and her reply was that when anyone runs against Teddy, if they are a hotel owner for example, their maids begin to call in sick, food deliveries are late, linen service breaks down, etc. Just enough so that the opponent gets the message to drop out. That's the Union worker for ya, led around by the nose by the Democrats. Pretty damn disgusting.

PS: Teddy was in the Army and rated a "mediocre" soldier. That's a hoot. He must have been one big SH*TBIRD!

Making a list, and checking it twice...
..."if the prime minister's positions are at odds with U.S. foreign policy goals, then he should not be permitted to address American leaders."

Let's make a list of who would be included if we made a list of those people:

- Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry...

How about: "We don't need to spend $200 and $300 and $500 billion bringing democracy in Iraq to turn over the US Government to people who would undo any and all accomplishments we have had so far."

Gunny
Re: your comment about Kennedy's military rating.

You're absolutely right! I hadn't thought about that. To be rated "mediocre" when the standard rating is "outstanding" if you manage to avoid accidentally shooting your CO...

Wow! He must have been a total Sad Sack.

Is anyone surprised?
Absolutely no surprise here. This is the party that elevated Cindy Sheehan to anti-war icon. She blames Israel for our involvement in Iraq. This is the party that elevated Michael Moore to such stature as to give him a prized seat at their 2004 convention. Just read “Dude Where’s My Country?" for his views on Israel. Only the Democrat Party can continually insult the intelligence of every American and still hold on to even one seat in government. If my daughter lied this much she would be permanently grounded. Howard Dean and the Democrats are dispicable. Hopefully their transparency will be noted at the polls. If not, we get what we deserve (i.e. Hamas/Palestinians).

Who Wrote al Maliki's Speech?
In Slate, Fred Kaplan objects to the PM's rhetoric on very different grounds:

"The unabashedly cynical move was Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's address before a joint session of Congress. Either the address was written by White House handlers (as was a similar oration two years ago by his predecessor, Iyad Allawi) or Maliki has hired speechwriters who know exactly how to say what American legislators want to hear...

"First, Maliki's speech, which he must have read half-ashamed, half-relieved that almost nobody back home would be listening. It was a speech right out of George W. Bush's playbook. It painted the war in Iraq as a struggle between democracy and terrorism. "Iraq is free," he said, 'and the terrorists cannot stand this.' Those who killed thousands of Americans on Sept. 11 are 'the same terrorists' as those killing innocent Iraqis today. 'Iraqis are your allies in the war on terror,' and Iraq is this war's 'front line' . . .

"He described Iraq as a country where people 'rely on dialogue to resolve their differences,' where 'women are equal to men' (in the constitution anyway), and where he plans very soon to establish a free-market economy and to loosen restrictions on foreign investment. These fairy tales, too, triggered what the transcripts of speeches before the Soviet Union's Central Committee used to call 'stormy applause.'

"Maliki gave not a hint that most of the violence gripping Iraq these days has nothing to do with al-Qaida-type terrorism--and everything to do with sectarian conflicts, if not outright civil war, between and among the native Sunni and Shiite Arabs.

"Did Bush aides write the speech? White House spokesman Tony Snow said at his daily press conference that there had been 'conversations about the speech' ahead of time--from which one could reasonably infer that they engaged, at least, in heavy editing."

Evil, Ignorant, Stupid or Greedy?
After watching the knee-jerk reaction of so many Democratic TV "talking heads" concerning the current attack on Israel, I have reluctantly reached the conclusion that all Democrats are evil, ignorant, stupid or greedy. Please -- someone talk me out of it! NO emotion please! Common sense, facts, history and honesty only. No "cut and paste" mindless tear jerk talking points from the DailyKOS.

For all these years, I've accepted their "we're just as patriotic as you are but we have differences of opinion". No more. This current issue is so "black and white", none can hide behind that excuse any longer.

Evil? Not many but a few. The ones who seek power at any cost. ANY cost! Including the loss of American lives and lives of our allies. Not "maybe someday" but RIGHT now. By siding with the enemy, they are lending "aid and comfort" to the enemy. Americans and allies are dying today because of their words and actions. How much would it increase our resolve and determination if large numbers of Muslims were constantly disagreeing in the media with every terrorist act and every utterance from the likes of UBL? Plenty! But it's not happening so we assume a billion plus Muslims quietly support the destruction of the Western World. So imagine how much encouragement rhetoric from the likes of Dick Durbin are giving terrorists! Power at ANY price. Shame on all of them!

Ignorant? PRETTY hard to be ignorant when there are plenty of honest and accurate carriers of factual news. Yes, you may have to listen to talk radio or read conservative media news sites on the Internet to balance The Nation, CBS and the NY Times but the real truth is there. Only the TRULY lazy can lay claim to being TRULY ignorant today.

Stupid? Yes, I give a pass to these poor people. I'm just sorry they are allowed to vote when they can't read a voter I.D. application but that's democracy. Until the "power at any price" evil ones fully get their way and empower all felons with the right to vote plus enable millions of illegal aliens with the ability to vote without getting caught (as they are working hard to do -- check out the ACLU Web site), the "mentally challenged" among us should just be given our sympathy and understanding.

Greed? Yes, greed. Rich or poor - if someone believes "what mine is mine and what's yours is also mine" then that is a definition of greed. To those who are swayed by emotion backed up by zero intelligence, the image of an indigent person only brings forth feelings of sympathy coupled with hate for those who MUST have taken from them. Why is it the wealthiest nation in the world has the wealthiest "lower class"? Compare those Americans in the bottom 10% with the AVERAGE French family. The poor here would be solid middle-class in France! Those darn pesky statistics such as "1% of Americans pay 125% of the taxes" (or whatever it is) could really get in the way of power hungry Democrats. FORTUNATELY, for them, few read or listen to boring facts and statistics unless they are spun then wrapped into meaningless flaming rhetoric yelling that YOU are a victim(!) and someone ELSE is responsible for YOU not being rich and famous because YOU "deserve" it!

I've run out of reasons why people are Democrats. Especially far-left liberal ones who totally ignore common sense and reality in all they say and do. Mentally unbalanced? They SEEM to be mentally competent (except for a few who slug capital hill policemen or use the deaths of their children or spouses to seek fame and fortune).

We've reached the point where this is no longer a game. It is way past the point where cheating and lying to gain political power does not do us great and permanent harm!

I don't yet accept the "Third World War" scenario being professed by so many but it's time for people to put the future of our country and the future of mankind as a first priority instead of parking it until they gain power. PLEASE - no mindless airhead rote speech emotion. "Attack" the message -- not the messenger. If anyone can calmly state a reasonable and meaningful reason that makes sense besides what I've concluded, please speak up! I do not like believing almost half of those among us would rather see our civilization end just to achieve their petty goals. But, after all these years, I now believe exactly that.

(Rational) comments would be appreciated!

geez, I'm pretty sure that if Democrats refused to condemn Hezbollah Limbaugh would be saying that they are "apologists for terrorism." It's pretty funny to see his double standard. The fact that Bush is going to let the P.M. speak before Congress, and not even pressure him to condemn Hezbollah and get his government to pressure other governments to stop funding Hezbollah, shows how little Bush cares about the conflict.

Larger Issues
This is the first time I can recall agreeing with Howard Dean; however, the context wherein his statement occurs merely highlights his hypocrisy. It's true that Maliki is probably an anti-semite, though it's likely that if he weren't he would keep it to himself until broader changes occured in the Middle East. I think it would be difficult to find someone in the arab world who wasn't, at the very least, in opposition to the existence of Israel. Thus, the more glaring and disturbing aspect of Maliki's conduct has to do with his reluctance to condemn the Hezzies. I'm not sure how you can purport to be against world-wide terrorism and not be opposed to the Hezbos. The democrat's posturing is laughable, however someone who was serious about the war on terror might just want to give some thought to how grey the area of support for terrorist organizations should be.

Humiliating an ally
A pretext was needed. So some Democrats boycotted Maliki because he "didn't condemn Hezbollah." If Maliki had condemned Hezbollah, these Democrats would have boycotted Maliki because he didn't condemn the Janjaweed killers in Sudan. If Maliki had condemned the Janjaweed, he would have been boycotted for not condemning breast cancer in poor Sunni neighborhoods.

Or something. I am not the first poster to correctly intuit that the insult to Maliki was meant to undermine Iraq's fledgling democracy as an indirect way to undermine Bush.

I wonder what the Democrats would have done if Maliki had condemned "stupid defeatist congressmen."

Talk about an embarassment to the world.
Bush is an embarrassment to dems because he can't walk and chew gum at the same time to their satisfaction. However, he never pubicly insulted a world leader and it's citizens who came here to thank us! I'm embarrassed of them and their snobby, elitist, we're better-than-you-little-people attitudes. My apologies to the PM for their rudeness, he deserved better than that!

Kennedy Clan -- The "Royals" of America
This is a letter to the editor recently printed in the Vail (Colorado) Trail newspaper. A very liberal newspaper. I'm surprised they printed it. Just proves again, there aren't really "Republicans and Democcrats" in our country -- there are the Elite, the "Useful Idiots" (thanks to Lenin for coining the term) and then there are the rest of us.

"Not even you, Ted"
I was amused by your article “Money Is No Object" on the cover of the July 7, 2006, edition.

Back in the ’70s there was a notorious, old lift operator from Eagle named Don Eperson on Chair 6 at Golden Peak. He caught a person trying to cut to the front of the line on a busy morning.

After yelling at the intruder and making him go to the end of the line, someone asked Don, “Do you know that is Ted Kennedy?” Don replied, “I don't care who it is, no one cuts my line.”

Roscoe & Gunny
Insofar as T.K. and elections are concerned, as a resident of the 'Peoples Republic of Massachusetts' I can tell you it has baffled me for years.

Edward Klein's book, The Kennedy Curse may however, shed some light. The first generation Kennedy, P.J., "served five consecutive terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and held two terms in the state senate..." "One of Joe Kennedy’s earliest memories,” writes Thomas C. Reeves, "was the visit of two ward heelers who proudly told his election-commissioner father, ‘Pat, we voted 128 times today.' 'Win at all costs' was the iron law of P.J.'s world, a dictum that would be passed on to generations of Kennedys."

It’s common knowledge; when JFK was seeking the Presidency, he 'Knelt at the throne' of Chicago's Mayor Daley… dead people cast votes in Illinois that year, and there were other ‘strange voting anomalies.’

Popular vote? Win at all cost? You decide.

Hollywood at it's best
Gibson made a remark about the Jews and Hollywood is up in arms. Bush is one of the best friends Israel has had in the White House for a long time. Yet the stars get on the stage and call him every name under the sun. Is this a double standard or their low IQ showing.
