Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Don't ask questions. And if you do, be prepared for an answer so painfully juvenile that it can be boiled down to this: "Doing something is better than nothing." Do liberals really believe doing something is always better? Was doing something in Iraq better than doing nothing?

In truth, this rush to war is all about the fickle nature of the voter. According to a new Rasmussen poll, 42 percent of the nation's likely voters support the president's plan, while 39 oppose it and 19 are undecided. The public's support for the plan is down 3 points in a week -- and this, without even having any time to chew on the specifics. Obviously, there is no time to waste.

George W. Bush engaged in the similar scare game when pushing through his $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program. But whereas Bush looked like a third-grader asking mom for an advance on his allowance, Obama has awe-inspiring confidence to pretend he actually can fix a recession.

Worse, it's back to one-party rule. One set of ideas. No real deliberation. No real compromise.

Obama, of course, has a powerful enough mandate to ram through any legislation he desires. And he's even polite enough to pretend to care about Republicans' concerns. They even may continue to be invited to the White House cocktail parties. But Obama would do Republicans a huge favor by explaining that "bipartisanship" and "unity" now mean voting with the new far-left majority.

Because really, for the next two years, at the very least, all debate is over.

About The Author
Harsanyi is actually correct.
The Dem total control will most likely not turn out well.

Look what happened to our nation from 2000 until 2007 when one party had control of the White House, the Senate, and the US House of Representatives.

Our nation may never recover.

Responses

Stewart: parroting phrases back at people in false analogies without any indication you understand any of it doesn't impress people, it makes you look like a child. Palin is incompetent, insane and dishonest, and if you don't get that, you haven't been paying attention, or are putting party ahead of country in a self-imposed fit of partisan blindness. You are part of the problem, not the solution.

Christopher: nice effort, with people like you in charge, the GOP might have a fighting chance to be great again.

Phil: I'd like government to be smaller and more efficient, and I hope you all agree with me. As far as "the worship of the false idol CHOICE causes us to sacrifice our children", I'm sorry, that's crazy talk, and will appeal only to the ever-shrinking group who already agrees with you. No one worships choice, and a blastocyst is not a child.

Lenard: How does valuing the individual over the state lead to opposing abortion, birth control, making victimless crimes like drug use and gambling illegal, and denying science? This is what social conservatism has sadly come to be. Now get back to emphasizing basic fairness, integrity, personal responsibility, justice, and love of country over love of party, and I'll be marching right there with you.
