Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

What a difference a year makes. President-elect Barack Obama hasn’t even taken office and we’re experiencing climate change.

Not the global warming variety that keeps bypassing the bone-chilling American winter. It’s change in D.C. Obama, who promised a government of “change” unveiled a switcheroo in his Jan. 2 radio address, also available on the Change.gov Web site.

Obama is releasing details of his economic recovery plan that includes spending hundreds of billions of dollars. It also entails a major jobs component. “The No. 1 goal of my plan, which is to create 3 million new jobs, more than 80 percent of them in the private sector,” he says in the new video.

That’s quite a goal for a new government that only recently was snowing the American public and the media on the very same issue. Call it the great snow job of 2009. It wasn’t the fluffy, light kind of precipitation reminiscent of Hallmark cards. This was the heaviest kind that buries us 3 feet deep.

It was all part of how Obama was getting away with the Big Lie on the economy. Only a few days before the latest Obama comment, his economics team was running around the country saying they will “save or create” 3 million jobs.

Sometimes. Other times, they claimed they would actually create 3 million jobs. Before that, the number was 2.5 million.

Listen to some of Obama’s top snowmen. First up is former Clinton Treasury Secretary Larry Summers who will head the White House National Economic Council in the Obama administration. According to a Summers op-ed in the Dec. 28 Washington Post, “a key pillar of the Obama plan is job creation. In the face of deteriorating economic forecasts, Obama has revised his goal upward, to 3 million.” Summers goes on to say that “more than 80 percent of these 3 million jobs will be in the private sector.” Summers sums it up by say: “This is a bold goal.”

Then we have David Axelrod, a senior adviser to the incoming president. Axelrod told a CBS “Face the Nation” audience the very same day that job creation isn’t the real goal – stopping unemployment is. “So we want to create 3 million – or create or save 3 million jobs to forestall that.”

In an amazing exercise in doublespeak, Axelrod even referenced the Summers op-ed and still, using an appropriate Clinton-era term, parsed it differently.

This isn’t a new controversy. There has been a blizzard of media coverage about the Obama economic plan. The only thing journalists agree on is that they don’t know what Obama has planned. The cost of the proposals changes almost daily. And journalists have bounced all over the place with their job analysis.

The New York Times started off the new year with a Jan. 1 story about the Obama stimulus plan that “could approach $1 trillion.” The cost is so high, wrote the Times, because “the effort will aim to create 3 million jobs by spending money on infrastructure, green energy technology, aid to states and other initiatives.” That spending number ranges from $675 billion on up, depending on the news outlet.

Just three days later, the paper reversed itself – at the very same time Obama was going the other direction. “Mr. Obama has pledged to ‘create or save’ 3 million jobs over the next two years,” wrote Jackie Calmes and Carl Hulse. Then they explained the problem a bit. “In his address, he omitted the word ‘save,’ suggesting he would create 3 million jobs, a goal that many economists consider unattainable under current conditions,” the pair said of Obama.

But now Obama is stuck with “creating” 3 million jobs. Creating something is much harder than just pretending to keep it safe. I could have saved an old column, rehashed something about how bad the media are covering economics. Instead, I had to create a new one. It’s tangible. You can touch it. Track it. And tally it.

That means if the media hold Obama accountable, the 3 million jobs number means something. It’s a reasonable expectation that journalists treat the incoming president the same way as the outgoing one and not let him snow them on the economy.

At least one reporter is doing just that. ABC’s Jake Tapper has figured out the way Obama can alter his own political climate. Obama claims that 80 percent of those 3 million jobs are private sector. That means he will push for an increase of 600,000 government jobs.

That’s a headline you might not see too many places. Kudos to Tapper for doing some timely snow removal.

It's clear to conservatives...reprised
I overlooked something very important in my submission (#20 from Chuck) earlier today. I said:

It's clear to conservatives...
... but others either can't understand it or don't want to.

"Give a new business tax abatements for employing workers and then the workers have incomes on which they are taxed. The idea is to make choices that leverage the tax revenue."

This is the way it should work under normal Federal tax plans but many of the newly employed may have marginal skills at best, and may pay no tax, plus get government subsidies besides.

This means that taxpayers pay for the creation of jobs, along with the business incentives and whatever else is part of it, plus paying the subsidies of the newly employed who will be paying no taxes themselves.

Make the subsidies high enough and why will anyone want to be employed in lower paying jobs?

And that wouldn't stimulate the economy.

Chuckles

And a smile for Conservatives.
Kickback from from Obama's conflicting promises?
It has already started!

It's clear to conservatives...
... but others either can't understand it or don't want to.

Creation of the jobs in the private sector means government subsidies, tax abatements, loans and gov’t projects. Taxpayers pay for subsidies. Abatements are better. Give a new business tax abatements for employing workers and then the workers have incomes on which they are taxed. The idea is to make choices that leverage the tax revenue.

Loans are good and gov’t projects (like roads) are good if the politicians don’t use them for personal gain, as they are wont to do.

Creation of .6 million government jobs is a direct cost to taxpayers. This is about the right size for Obama's National Civilian Police Force that he said we needed in his July 2 speech in Denver. It that is it, we will pay for 600,000 national police to keep us citizens in line – in the name of aiding in economic recovery.

In the private sector’s 2.4 million new job goal, for every unemployed automotive engineer who may get a job out of this we will have 1,000 people who are unskilled and who are marginally employable at best.

The unions will have a field day signing up these people for higher pay, greater benefits, and generally less work for more money. Obama already plans to do away with secret ballot union elections. Read that: "Hey Joe. It can be unhealthy to vote against joining the union. You got a problem with that?"

The Obama administration will have strong control over free enterprise because of gov’t’s hand in subsidies, loans, tax abatements, and gov’t projects.

This program will provide transfer payments from the taxpayers to the marginally employable. Obama promised his followers redistribution of wealth and this is one way he will do it.

The Dems are already admonishing us to lower our expectations about what the Obama administration will accomplish, and how soon.

I, for one, will be happier if Obama does not meet some of my expectations.

Chuckles

10 million unemployed.
While 10 million may only be 3% of the population, which doesn't sound bad, unless you are one of the 10 Million. Government jobs are just Welfare, with recipents required to show up and be counted. We had the WPA with Roosevelt, and that was mostly a joke. We need jobs returned to American manufacturers, real jobs, making American products. Made in America. We do not need a foreign market for American products, we have a market right here. I do not need $50 VCR's when 20,000 Americans are laid of from that manufacturer. Union workers can buy Union made products. Lets restore America now. Stop buying any imports.

happy new year
He is going to create private sector job. Well, if they are in fact in government, the cost to taxpayers will be costly. Aside from salaries, think about the benefits that all government employees receive? This is one huge financial snowball that will keep on rolling. Be prepared.

INFLATION, here we come!
Let's see, toss about a trillion dollars into an economy without doing anything to increase productivity or efficiency, and you have more dollars chasing the same amount of goods and services. That spells INFLATION.

Oh, wait, don't forget Obama's coming "Gore-bull warming" regulations, which will mean a REDUCTION in productivity and efficiency. That means more dollars chasing a LESSER amount of goods and services. That spells HYPER-INFLATION.

Mark me down in the pool for 11% unemployment and 12% inflation, totaling 23% on the "misery index" we started with Jimmy Carter. Obama's 23 will have him beat.

The Dems will lose big-time in the 2020 mid-term elections. Of course, the cost will be the destruction of the American economy.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, not even a free hamburger, but Obama has promised a seven-course meal.

Start preparing now for the worst...

create jobs
First, when the gov't creates jobs, we the taxpayer pays for them so how does that solve our economic woes? Next, the gov't cannot just tell private industry to create new jobs; that is not how an economy works. There must be a reason for an industry to make a product and subsequently hire workers. Moreover, since we have taxed and over-regulated (unionized) many of our industries overseas, there is not much of an industrial basis for creating more (new) jobs. Creating green jobs sounds fine but what if nobody is buying our green products that we make? There has to be a market. And to come full circle, if he creates green gov't jobs, then we get to pay for it through higher taxes or more debt. Lastly, folks, esp. libs, where are we and he getting the money for all these bailouts, jobs, etc??? If we continue to borrow or print money we will face dire consequences in the not-to-distant future.

President O's plan - grow Government
That's right Make an already Dysfunctional Government even Bigger, Brilliant Mr.O, just Brilliant. This is what you get when you elect Liberals into Government regardless whether it federal or State level. More taxes, more Welfare, more Dysfunctional Cities: San Fransisco, L.A., Detroit, New Orleans, Washington DC & States: California, Michigan, Louisiana. Liberals call it Progressive, I call Degenerate.

Don, don't tell the Obadummies
I was in line in Walmart, standing between a dirty ill-dressed couple and a well dressed articulate lady. The dirty literally dirty as in unwashed couple started about how Walmart was evil for running off American jobs and selling stuff from China, and that this and the poor economy was all Bush's fault. I pointed to all of the shoppers in WalMart and asked her if the president was forcing anyone to shop in WalMart. She had that stupid look on her face, because she can't explain her views, she can only parrot the nonsense she hears from the Dimmocrat party. I told her I like Bush, let's change the subject, because I'm pretty sure I can whup you in a debate on economics. She shut her piehole, and turned around. Of course this begged the question: If she thought Walmart was so evil, what was she doing there?

600,000 government jobs?
600,000 government jobs??????

Obama BS...
Get ready folks. I suspect that this new Halfrican president is playing a grand game of Three Card Monte, right here on the streets of WashDC. I just hope that it most affects all of the true believers who voted for hopeandchangehopeand changehopeandchange. Those of you who did vote for him are going to find out just what shucking and jivin' are all about. Have fun.

You air-heads are getting what you want
I just feel badly for our grandchildren for what you air-heads did when you put the so-called messiah in office.

Our Country as you can remember it, is going down the tubes with noboma, pelosie, reid, barny the gay-boy and don't forget the crazy clintons along with many others.

Our Country is broke and it's too late to fix it with the dims in charge.

BHO finds way to prove the negative
As long as there are still 3 million people employed at any given time, no matter how many others are out of work, Obama will claim to have "saved" those 3 million jobs. He's found a way to prove the negative.

The winner is Don
The Obamination cannot create jobs unless he does something he has never done in his entire life (nor did Bill Clinton nor his wife): the only way anyone can *create jobs* is by starting and running a successful business.

Since the Antichrist has never even WORKED for a successful business, he holds a high school juniors hazy idea of what it takes to Create Jobs, i.e. hire people, and keep the business afloat so they will have something to do. At the business where I work, we are approaching the time when we have to write our annual reports on what we have done over the past year to justify our existence in the web that is our business. This is not Hopey McChange stuff; this is hard numbers including how much we have billed and collected, how many new clients we have brought in and what we have done for them -- what our outcome was -- and if they were satisfied enough to recommend us, we have learned that will help us to be better in 2009, and so on.

Hopey McChange cannot do any of this, and next year when he does his State of the Union Address, it will be full of the gauzy persiflage that rolls off the tongue of a snake oil salesman but when all the soaring rhetoric is peeled away, the numbers will not be there.

Millions of other people will be fired this year because their Oxford Reports show nothing but airy persiflage. We are stuck with the Obamination regardless of the fact that all he can create and produce is hot air.

Slippery Slope of Socialism
We have watched our once proud and independent capitalist republic sink, ever so slowly, over a period of 77 years – starting with the inauguration of the first socialist, FDR - into the abyss that is that is socialism, culminating in less than two weeks with the socialist canonization of the poster child of American socialism, The Anointed One, Barack H. “Big Bailout Bucks Barry” Obama, who will immediately begin the largest handout (approaching $1 Trillion) in this country’s history. BHO won the presidential election because this is a democracy and a majority of the common people voted to elect him to that high office. However, I wish to remind all of you now that four years hence you should think back to the observation by that great cynic H.L. Mencken who once advised that “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard” since by then we will have undoubtedly gotten it good and hard!

For the next 4 years
When questioned about the effectiveness of anything expect to hear: "I'm waiting for a report from my (fill in the blank) advisors". And so nothing will get done except those in the Ghetto will still be in the Ghetto, but the Ghetto will be worse.

A trillion dollars?
Why not just divide up the trillion dollars among the first 3 million people who need a job? Doesn't that come to $333,000 apiece? Now THAT would be an economic stimulus plan!

Come to think of it, that's about what it cost for one person's job training under LBJ's "War on Poverty." Liberals like to create government bureaucracies to manage these things, but the fact is you could send each job-seeker to Harvard for the same amount of money -- and still have enough left to rebuild the bridges.

Hire Two Guys:
Pay one guy to dig holes; pay the other to fill them up again. Green jobs.

h20skier
that is one awesome post. Time will tell if the liberals really are all that concerned about increasing the deficit to unimaginable amounts (hey, it's only money!), as long as they don't have to give up their particular teat.

However, the tax 'cuts' Obama refers to is the transfer of more of our tax dollars to those who don't pay Fed tax, just like the 'stimulus' checks GW sent out last year.

I didn't get a stimulus check. Did you?

For years the GOP rationalization
for earmarks, pork, andgovt expansion was that the Democrats would do it worse. Most of us knew this to be true, but it was meaningless because things had reached the point in 2000 that only a clear cut move to shrink the budget and entitlements could have saved the economy. Bush and the GOP congress didn't do it and here we are. Will Obama do it? It looks less and less likely. What i am afraid of is that the Democrats will once more be able to explain away failure, just as they do for the failing school system. The system that they create and block any attempt to upgrade or give parents a choice.

I heard
Harry Reid today at a press conference state the Obama's stimulus plan would be from $850 billion to $1.2 trillion. Now, all of you liberals that complained the last 8 years of the budget deficits how do you reconcile this large of an increase in the deficit. It will be close to $2 trillion for just one year. Oh, and don't blame it on Bush because he has nothing to do with this stimulus package.

Another double speak from Obama is he will create or "save" 3 million jobs. This is the first time I hear that 600,000 of those will be government jobs. Again, all you liberals that complained about the explosion of government under Bush, how do you reconcile this too? I like the term save because no matter how many jobs are lost because of his policies he can always say, "Well, unemployment would have been x times worse had we not done anything and we have saved 3 million jobs." This will be even possible if an addition 3 million jobs are lost under his administration.

You liberals complained and complained about Bush's tax cuts and spending. Now, lets see you complain just as vehemently about Obama's tax cuts and increased spending.

Just two points
Presidents can't control the economy or create jobs.
