Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

There are so many things to love about the Rod Blagojevich scandal it's hard to know where to begin.

Wait. That's not right. There are so many bleeping things to love about this bleeping-bleep Blagojevich scandal it's hard to know where to begin.

For starters, the folks at the Chicago Tribune are Christmas Pony Happy because Blago tried to strong-arm Trib ownership to fire members of the editorial board. Instead, Trib editors will get to have a big tailgate party outside Blago's cell window.

Newspaper people love that sort of thing.

For the more historically minded, it's a time for nostalgia. The past comes alive as Chicago's grand tradition of corruption is sustained for another generation. As the Chicago Tribune once wrote, "corruption has been as much a part of the landscape as corn, soybeans and skyscrapers." According to the Chicago Sun-Times, as of 2006, when Blago's predecessor, George Ryan, was sent to prison for racketeering, 79 elected officials had been convicted of corruption in the past 30 years. Among the perps: 27 aldermen, 19 judges, 15 state legislators, three governors, two congressmen, one mayor, two turtledoves and a partridge in a stolen pear tree. Especially in this holiday season, it's so very important to keep traditions alive for the kids. In a sense, Blago did it for the children.

For partisans, there's the schadenfreude that comes with watching the Democrats -- self-proclaimed anti-corruption zealots in recent years -- explain why Blagojevich shouldn't be lumped in with Congressmen Charlie Rangel (cut himself sweetheart deals), William Jefferson ($90,000 in his freezer) and Tim Mahoney (tried to bribe an aide he was sleeping with not to sue him; and you thought romance was dead) as part of a new Democratic "culture of corruption" storyline.

There's the enormous I-should-have-had-a-V8! moment as the mainstream press collectively thwacks itself in the forehead, realizing it blew it again. The New York Times -- which, according to Wall Street analysts, is weeks from holding editorial board meetings in a refrigerator box -- created the journalistic equivalent of CSI-Wasilla to study every follicle and fiber in Sarah Palin's background, all the while treating Obama's Chicago like one of those fairy-tale lands depicted in posters that adorn little girls' bedroom walls. See there, Suzie? That's a Pegasus. That's a pink unicorn. And that's a beautiful sunflower giving birth to a fully grown Barack Obama, the greatest president ever and the only man in history to be able to pick up manure from the clean end.

Obviously the list doesn't end there. Blago's hair not only appears bulletproof but seems to confirm reports that he is the human model for Playmobil action figures.

And you can't leave out the supporting cast. Mrs. Blago curses like the inmate working the cafeteria at a women's prison who replies with an f-bomb to anyone objecting to a leaden ladle-thwack of unidentifiable green mush on their lunch tray.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., himself the son of a shakedown artist, is alleged to have offered (through a minion) a half-million bucks for Barack Obama's vacant senate seat. Jackson replaced former Rep. Mel Reynolds, who went to jail for getting jiggy with a 16-year-old campaign staffer and stayed in jail because of various fraud convictions. Reynolds, in turn, was the "reformer" who had replaced Rep. Gus Savage, the thug-congressman who groped a Peace Corps volunteer in Zaire while on a "fact-finding" trip. Savage held off Reynolds' attempts to replace him for several years by claiming Reynolds was financed by "racist Jews."

Man, what isn't there to love about Chicago politics?

It would be premature, not to mention un-festive, to discard any of these delicious immoral morsels from this cornucopia of corrupt crapulence. Fortunately, there's no need to single out just one fragrance from this miasma of malfeasance or one dish from this smorgasbord of smut.

But, there is a nice moral to the story here. For the last several years, we've heard a lot about "new politics." We are going to start fresh and put aside the old politics and the old ways. So far, it looks like Obama did nothing wrong, and I hope that remains the case. But it's worth remembering that there really isn't any such thing as a "new politics." Politics is eternal because human nature is unchanging. Even Barack Obama, hero-saint light-worker Jedi Knight Messiah that he is, came from a political culture that would not be unrecognizable to Caligula.

Hopefully, Obama will take away from this the humility that comes with realizing we are all -- even The One -- built from the crooked timber of humanity. Hence the genius of the Founders who built a government that took our imperfection into account. As James Madison said, If men were bleeping angels ...

Very funny
I didn't know you were so funny Mr. Goldberg. Do it again!

An Interesting Sidebar
December 18, 2008
Jonah: I saw your discussion on Fox tonight and I for no particular reason began to recall some government scandals and their repercussions as they surfaced long ago. At 57 years old, I am just guessing that I have at least 20 years on you. Since you would not have been around during this big one, you may want to research it to discover what can happen beyond the innocuous level that we find ourselves in. Although dissimilar in subject matter, check the Profumo Scandal in the UK long forgotten. I remember a young lady named Mandy Rice Davies who opened up a can of worms that almost closed the store. I just wanted to point out that every Administration has its Burt Lance or Spiro Agnew. I hope that this one is not a can of worms because there is something about this that reminds me of the game of Clue. Jay R

Haha
Haha. Pretty clever. And true.

But:

"So far, it looks like Obama did nothing wrong, and I hope that remains the case."

Good Lord, Goldberg, give it a rest. That's farcical fantasy considering the extent to which He's pushed along the abortion slaughter, behavior in which, unfortunately, though He seems the most extreme, He's hardly alone.

Merry Christmas to all...for however much longer the ACLU and their 'judge' minions will allow that sentiment to be expressed.

Sense?
Mr. Goldberg ought to at least write a column that has some intelligible thread instead of the ridiculous hash of words that someone has been duped into paying him for. Democratic culture of corruption indeed. What rock have you people been under for the past eight years?

I can hear it now
Et tu blaggard, then fall Barak.

Bush was a good President with some mist
President Bush was a good President, like all frail sinful mortals he made some mistakes, he had errors in judgment, a bit of hubris concealed as a compromising and tolerant spirit. He helped us recover against the onslaught of the old man of the Mountain, Naziri-Ismaili assassins who have a jihad on America. He failed to hold the house of Sau responsible, we have more enemies in Riyahd than in Badgdad. See Bauer"s book DANCING WITH THE DEVIL. His economic policies were wondrous for six years until the Democrats took over Congress. He failed, like John McCain, when he treated the Democrats like ladies and gentlemen, rather than like Jacobin/Bolshevik radical political enemies of freedom that they are. He should have enforced the overhaul or dismantling of Freddie mac and Fannie Mae and not capitulated to the Black Caucus who supported Raines. President Bush could have averted a recession caused by the blind allegiance of Dems, especially in Black Caucus, to the mismanaged, malfeasance lending orgs. President Bush should also have protected our borders from an illegal alien invasion reminiscent of the Goths crossing the Rhine. We are now getting Aaron Burrr's dream of a united North America in which the US will be a hacienda to the Mexicans. But for 6 years our economy was good despite a war on the would be Suleiman the Magnificents, we had freedom, unlike the times of Wilson and his foisted war, and prosperity untilo the Dems took over Congress.

Dem:Means never having to say your sor
We all know that America has the best politicians money can buy, Just look at the last election and the millions that came from Hollywood, The Trial Lawyers Guild a host of PACs. In addition we have the foreign donations of George Sorros both directly and through the countless NGO's and political "educational" entities like MOVE ON and ACORN and we see Tamanny Hall on a national scale. It could almost appear that we really operate under a plutocracy, in which the major contributors are the producers and directors, and the politicians are merely paid actors. I guess its called lobbying or campaign contributions when the plutocrats determine the candidates and buys the official, but corruption if a politician reverses the process and sells an office? Perhaps the Senatorial decision should have been left to the major campaign contributors to Governor Blagojevich and his party? It appears we are headed towards a system of Marxist Mercantilism, an age of government chartered monopolies9 i.e bailout of Detroit Automakers and a host of banks, insurance companies investment firms etc) that will benefit at taxpayer expense, but will reciprocate the favor to the elected politicians with appropriate campaign contributions. Its OK for executives and UAW union officials to rack in billions of taxpayer dollars, courtesy of their chosen and hired politicians, but let a politician try and make a few thousand and it is corruption?
Ps I hope Fitzgerald gets thrown aout of this as a vicious prosecutor ho will prosecute anyone for publicity. His railroad of Scooter Libby shows he has no scruples, just an insatiable ego and a craving to be a celebrity, willing to spend millions to convict any unfortunate person, regardless of innocence, to prison. Fitzpatrick reminds one of Madame LeFarge in Tale of Two Cities or that antagonist in Les Miserables. He is probably a reincarnated Jacobin, Nazi or Cheka prosecutor. Is he any relation to Judge Roy Bean?

Tammy Duckworth was put forward by Durbin, to help assuage his conscience for having called our military "like Hitler's Nazis ... like Pol Pot ... Abu Graib was like the Soviet gulags .."
His blubbering, crocodile-tears apology never did ring true. Oh, that's right. He's from Illinois.

Lisa Madigan might well have been named in order to let Gov. Rod win his "unprecedented 3rd term." How better to keep the Chicago machine well oiled and running than to keep one of its cogs firmly in control. Had she run against him in a goobernatorial primary, the honest/dishonest, good/bad contrast would have cost him.

I wish Jesse Jr. had been anointed. He would bring to the Senate the competence and honesty of Carol Mosely Braun without the historical significance, and might have been bounceable in 2010.

If only TheOne could have loosened some of that leftover $30M to pay Blago off, this could have been settled on Nov. 5 and heaven knows the MSM never would have looked into it.

Hawkeye
You list several things a birth certificate must be presented for. One was a passport.

We know Obama wnt to Indonesia and Keny after college. He must have has a birth certificate to get a passport, right?

I am not an Obama fan by any means but let's get off the birth certificate crap.

He hasd to have a passport to go overseas and he had to have a birth certificate to get the passport. Did he travel on an Indonesia passport? Doubt it!!

Jessie Jackson, Sr. and Jr.
Did Jessie Jackson, Sr. want to cut Obama's nuts off because Obama would not support Jr. for the Senate seat?

Was Jr. upset with Sr. about that because Sr. ruined any chance Obama would back him for the seat?

Apparently there is no doubt Jr. is Candidate # 5. The FBI tapes clearly show Blago discussing what # 5's people were willing to offer and Jr. met with Blago 4 days later. What did they talk about, the Bears and Cubs? Not likely.

If Jr. was innocent he would have held a press conference and told the world her could noit get the seat because (1) Obama would not back him (2) Blago wanted money.

The only reason Jr. was still in the race at that point was that he was willing to pay off Blago. Elementary!!!

It does not look good for Jr. and I pray that azzhole Jessie Jackson, Sr. is caught as well. He has been a blight in this country long enough with his shakedowns.

One Dirty town and state
these people have. Illinois has outrages taxes, is a lousy place to do business and every "inspector" from fire to sanitation has his hand out.
When we closed our distribution center there a few years ago a Teamster Business Agent wanted to negotiate a severance package for the workers. When we said NO he asked if we would pay HIM a consultant fee. NO. I paid all the grease I was going to in in Illinois.

Now I have no reason to fly into Midway and do not miss it one bit. Shame, that plant still stands empty.

Beautiful post - beautiful sense of humor! Well written - I am still laughing. You rock!

Talk About A Partridge In A Pear Tree
On one of the websites, I was threatened to have my emails stopped even though I didn't originate or create the story of the 12 Days of Christmas but was forwarded to me after it had been forwarded to thousands of other people, I'm sure - and I forwarded the entertaining tale of the Twelve Days of Christmas that told about the Partridge in a Pear tree...which had nothing to do with corruption - but for fun - and I get a threatening note - then I read about the Muslim lawyer right afterwards who says that Christmas is the "pathway to hellfire" and that it's evil to celebrate Christmas (IN THE U.S.) and decorate trees or eat turkey - good grief, we have foreigners coming into our country and telling us TRUE U.S. Natural Born U.S. citizens who are proud of our birth certificates and who love our country and traditions that we're evil and that we must stop with our traditions and speak their languages at the expense of U.S. tax payers. If there are immigrants who hate our country and our traditions then what are they doing in our country to begin with?

Trib: Only Honest Newspaper in Amer.?

Excerpt from By Bob Secter/Chicago Tribune staff reporter's 9:23 PM CST, December 12, 2008 online article: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-rahm-obama13d ec13,0,3359611.story

"Emanuel, who has long been close to both Blagojevich and Obama, has refused to respond to questions about any involvement he may have had with the Blagojevich camp over the Senate pick. A spokeswoman for Emanuel also declined to comment Friday.

One source confirmed that communications between Emanuel and the Blagojevich administration were captured on court-approved wiretaps.

Another source said that contact between the Obama camp and the governor's administration regarding the Senate seat began the Saturday before the Nov. 4 election, when Emanuel made a call to the cell phone of Harris. The conversation took place around the same time press reports surfaced about Emanuel being approached about taking the high-level White House post should Obama win.

Emanuel delivered a list of candidates who would be "acceptable" to Obama, the source said. On the list were Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, Illinois Veterans Affairs director Tammy Duckworth, state Comptroller Dan Hynes and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Chicago, the source said. All are Democrats.

Sometime after the election, Emanuel called Harris back to add the name of Democratic Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan to the approved list, the source said."

brilliant column
The Trib editors are "Christmas Pony Happy"? superb--wish I'd written that!

To Blago: Get Paid, baby, Get Paid!!
Ask yourself this question?

What conceivable motivation would Gov. Blagojevich have for resigning at this time? The answer is NONE.

You think he is going to take the fall all by himself, while the Obamas, the Jesse Jacksons, Rahm Emanuel, and God knows who else, walk away scot-free?

Bu!!$h!t!!

A Chicago Democrat Machine politician[read:crook] as shrewd as Blagojevich [who, contrary to the message being pushed in the MSM], is not crazy.

Don't you think this man realizes that the only leverage he has, in all this, is to scare the be-Jesus out of whatever cronies he DOES have in Chicago and Springfield to intervene on his behalf in dealing with the Feds to reduce his eventual punishment?

The only real Ace he has, IS his governorship.

Does anyone really think Blagojevich, who tried to sell a Senator appointment, would give up a governorship for nothing?

Get real.

Blagojevich is STILL dealing, baby, and you'd better believe it!

Nobody would go to bat for him if he steps down voluntarily, but somebody, right now & this minute, is trying to put a "package" together for him that will make his fall much easier to take [to cover their own @$$].

Additionally, NOBODY in Springfield wants the exposure an impeachment hearing would bring on their possible part in one [or more] of his ongoing & previous schemes.

This explains all these calls for resignation and looking to the IL Supreme Court to intercede.

BLAGO, baby, you stay just where you are!!

Make the rats sweat bullets and blood!!

...and get paid, baby, get paid.

The most corrupt administration in world
Start with refusing to provide a birth certificate. Have a Clintoon judge decide that the American people have no right to know if "HE" is in fact American. Take the man who almost singlehandedly caused the world financial collapse as vice president. Load the store with the people that just looted the housing base of the country. Add everyone else that has had suspicion to the team and then tell America that they are all clean, God's blessing upon the earth while finally admitting that he is muslim and sharia law would work in American finances and laws.

Fantastic
Thanks for the laugh. Really enjoyed reading!!!!

The best article today
I wish I had read it earlier. Your muse was with you on this one Jonah.

To quote Oliver"More please".

Irish Eyes...
Amen.

Greed & Corruption
I’m trying to figure out why political corruption is at an all-time high. I think it comes down to a few issues, greed, ego, self-Importance, arrogance, power and the ignorance of the public. Both parties are culpable and have histories of corruption. I think politics attracts a certain type of human being, and it’s not just in the United States, its worldwide issue.

World leaders may tell the public they have there best interests at heart and tell them they’re going to look out for you as their Country’s leader, but the reality is they’re only interested in themselves, holding and retaining power and control over the masses. With politics money because readily available to them and if they are greedy, as with Blagojevich and his wife, who are more or less morally bankrupt, they rationalize that they are superior and deserve everything that’s out on the table of the smorgasbord of money, power and self-importance. Their egos have run amuck and their need for self-importance, grandiose ideas and public adulation needs to be massaged daily.

I think once they forget why they are there, they need to leave. There is no doubt that most politicians are arrogant, that arrogance comes in levels, the longer in power the worse it becomes. They turn into a hazard when their egos, power and money outweigh the public’s needs. We have witness massive egos this election from both the politicians and those who cover politics in the media. When a reporter becomes part of the political coverage, they are no longer a reporter they become a participant to the story; they’re a footnote to the political coverage.

The craving of wealth in America has become kind of scary and I don’t remember that as a young adult. I think a majority of our politicians have become abusive to greed and power. We really need to look at each one and survey the damage, make the right decisions, if we only vote along party lines; we might not be choosing what best for America.

clean manure?
Jonah. You are classic. I am still laughing as I write this message. Oreillys producers should be ringing your cell phone to book you immediately. Laughable, and accurate. I was born and raised in Jersey city, NJ, Hudson County, and Illinois makes my beloved city look like kindergarten. Great piece.

This column
is priceless. And so pointed, with lines like
the "pick up manure from the clean end," (oh the theatre of the mind)his points will not be forgotten.

Blago
Al Capone is still alive and well in Chicago.

The Godfather of Chicago Politics
All of these thugs from Chicago should take a lesson from the Godfather of Chicago Richard J. Daley. Or should I say the son of the Godfather of Chicago Politics.

The mistake that the Chicago thugery always makes is getting too close to the money. Blago is a prime example. He asked for money directly. All the money should come to him. Daley would never behave in such a manner. His payoffs come from underlings at many levels. Each underling will take their share and pass the rest up, each higher underling taking a little. The remaining money will make it to the top. Profitability requires a lot of volume but it works... and it keeps a lot of mouths shut down the food chain.

Blago
The guy is not too smart. A Senate seat can easily cost as much as $12 million just to campaign for, with no guarantee of a win.

The guy was going to let it go for less than a mil.

One of the IL 5 should have had the money to the guy overnight, no one would have known.

Should have been an easy 6 million. It would have been a great birthday present for the Blago.

Loved the column Jonah
You have a real flair for comedy.

Don Juan
I could name numerous of Bush's successes--and I KNOW you'd like to change the subject from Democrat corruption--but I think I like the way the discussion is going right now.

But I WILL point out that the economy was growing for President Bush's first 6 years in office, despite the awful events of 9/11. In the 7th year, however, the Dems took over Congress and it has been all downhill from there. On the other hand, at the end of their first 2 years, the Dems HAVE brought down gas prices (with all the job losses, demand is DOWN--good work, Dems!).

All American Politicians
The desire for money and power is the driving force behind all political leaders. It is naive of the American public to be shocked when one of them is caught breaking the law. They all break the law but most cover their tracks. Politicians pay millions to get a job that often pays only 250 thousand dollars a year. They easily make that money back by selling influence. Knock on the door of any politicians office and you will find Blagojevich.

This really is the gift that keeps on giving.

Of course Obama has knowledge of Blago's dealings. I'm sure Obama wasn't about to pay off Blago, but Rohm was negotiating helping Blago get some sort of an ambassordship or cabinet post. Obviously that fell through because they pulled the plug on Obama's Candidate #1.

That does not disappoint me, because it turns out Candidate #5, Jesse Jackson Jr, was willing to pay up to a million bucks for the seat. To see Jesse & Son get exposed like this is making me smile.

One by one, they will be taken down like dominos. I'm sure Obama will come out unscathed as usual.

I mean, if he couldn't lose an election over Rezko, Ayers, Wright, Dohrn, Khaldi, Odinga, Chavez, Hamas, Castro, Farrakhan, Al-Mansure, Hezbollah, and I know I'm missing 5 more, than I don't know if this Blago thing will take him out down the road.

Chicago & Reform: Fish, meet Bicycle.
A gentleman from Chicago called into Rush's show yesterday and summed up the typical Chicago politicians' attitude toward reform in this quaint saying: "cut me in or cut it out."

And Barack Obama is their Sgt. Schulz.

Of course he is.

You DO have a way with words. Your posts are absolutely inspired!

Don Juan
I think you may have missed Apostrophe Jones' obvious sarcastic re-working of the Democrat phrase for the explanation of any problem occurring during the last few years of President Bush's administration as being due to "the failed policies of the Bush administration" (though in fairness to you, it was such an obvious "truism" that the phrase may not have actually registered in your psyche over all those years).

Obama
is about knee deep in the manure. Just wait, it could get worse.

bleeping brilliant!
I am a longtime admirer of Jonah Goldberg's work, and this is one of the best articles I've read by him, perhaps his funniest ever?

"And that's a beautiful sunflower giving birth to a fully grown Barack Obama, the greatest president ever and the only man in history to be able to pick up manure from the clean end."

This is one of the funniest sentences I've ever read. It's right up there with another Goldberg classic, in which he described Helen Thomas as a "thespian carbuncle of bile".

Jim

"Blago will sing like a bird, unless people are willing to pay for his silence. I truly can't wait for the rest. This is the best Christmas gift ever. "

======

You are quite right Shells, I too will be waiting, watching and listening very closely when the rat in the trap (Blago) starts singing away with all that he knows to keep his you know what out of prison.

I know that Fitzgerald has said that Obama has not been implicated, yet when all is said and done, I honestly believe that Obama may be picking up the dirty end of manure.

Secret Ballot…Democrats…

I remember my Uncles; both who lived in Chicago, worked for Ford Motors, and were Democrat Committeemen of some sort. They would tell stories that at the time a 10 year old did not comprehend. However 50+ years later, I do truly understand how our secret ballots can and are easily manipulated. Whether you vote or not, your vote does count, at least in Chicago and its immediate suburbs. However, it made no difference who you vote for; the winner was always a Democrat. This corruption and fraud is spreading throughout this country and seems to get worse, especially with each passing Presidential Election.

Our current system of “Secret Ballots” is very easily manipulated by the current processes and that fraud has become so rampant our Democracy is suffering the worst sort of crime against the people of this country. These current processes if not reformed, will lead this country into a nightmare that it will never wakeup from. And maybe, has already...!!!

Outstanding Article
I laughed out loud over the picking up manure comment. Obama did it throughout the campaign - he didn't know the dirty side of Wright, Rezko, Ayers, Dohrn, or ACORN and he lied about BAIPA. I'm sure the mainstream media will continue to marvel at his ability to pick up manure from the clean end rather than noticing that he is actually picking up manure.

Roopsag @ #38 - I thought paying taxes was the highest form of patriotism.

John Harris Has A Lot of Answers

"It would take a willing suspension of disbelief..." to believe that Barack Hussein Obama, President-elect[Chicago-IL], vacating U.S.Senator [Chicago-IL], "Office of the President-elect (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean)[operating in Chicago-IL], would not have had "any contact" with Rod Blagojevich-Governor [Chicago-IL], Office of the Governor [located Chicago-IL (not the State Capitol where he refuses to reside)], about which token African-American (naturally) appointment from [Chicago-IL], the President-elect [Chicago-IL] would prefer the Governor [Chicago-IL] to consider for his [Chicago-IL] replacement.

As for who spoke to whom, and when...
I maintain that John Harris [the go-between between the Governor and the Senate seat-bidders, knows ALL the answers.

If, and when, he feels he is being "hung out to dry," it may come to pass that he will sing a song that may "turn out the lights, and end the party for a lot of politicians [Chicago-IL].

As for Blagojevich praying with the ministers this morning, before leaving for "work", I hope they prayed with him in a languager he can understand:

"F***ing Lord, Please F***ing get me out of this F***ing mess. And Lord, protect me from that F***ing Fitzgerald M*****F***er, who is trying to hang me for what everybody else does in F***ing Chicago all the time.

"And Lord, if I go to hell for what I've done, please let that M*****F***ing lop-eared F***er who is now telling all those other M*****F***ers that he had no contact with me, beat me there.

A-F***ingMen.

The acronym LMAO fits
"And that's a beautiful sunflower giving birth to a fully grown Barack Obama, the greatest president ever and the only man in history to be able to pick up manure from the clean end."

I had to double check. My "A" is still on but it really was a good laugh. Thank's Johah, I need that.

V8 Moment
I must disagree on one thing Mr. Goldberg. The MSM will not have a V8 moment of buyer's remorse over Obama. They have been in the tank for him since day one and even threw their golden haired girl Hillary overboard for him.

Can you imagine what would have happened if a similar scandal had come out during Bush's transition in 2000? The MSM would have been all over it like white on rice. What did Bush know? When did he know it? Let's appoint a special congressional committee and special prosecutor to investigate this to death?

To be fair I will agree that at the present time no direct concrete evidence ties Obama to Blagojevich's wrongdoing. But I suspect the mainstream media will not even lift a finger to investigate this. We have already seen that it took a supermarket tabloid paper to break the John Edwards scandal while the national leftwing media bent over backwards to suppress the story.

Stay tuned and as has been attributed to Mark Twain: "America has the best politicians money can buy."

True
Great article. So many good points it makes them hard to ignore. I hope for the sake of the country that Obama had nothing to do with this, however if he did there should be Hell to pay. Good luck to the people of Illinois!

It's just a matter of time
until Obama is linked to the Blaaagos. There is a real cute picture of the two laughing like old school mates (all the way to the bank).
Do these guys really think they can get with anything they want because they have a government job? Wow, how the money flies around and how about that interview back in 02 with Obama saying that all he cared about was to get Rodney elected in the good old boys network in Chicago? Not in those words of course. These people need to be sent to prison period.

Great!
Your tongue-in-check is great! I am still laughing! As soon as I finish laughing, I will cry because what you said betweeh the tougue-in-check stuff is so true.

Poor far left Dumbocrats! I hope they have to spend so much energy & time covering their behinds they cannot ruin this country!

Jesse Jr.
Do you suppose Jesse Jackson is angry at Junior for sullying the Jackson name ? I personally blame the failed policies of the Obama administration.

Can't Agree John...
I think part of the problem with the Republican party is that they lost their gonads and their lack of pointing out the failures of the Democratic party. The Dems have cried and cried about the Republicans and it has gotten them quite far because the Republicans remained silent. Taking the high road is always admirable but this party needs a little fire and being silent only gives others the impression that what the Dems say must be right. Look how excited Republicans got when Palin stated the obvious. We were all just glad that someone finally had the gonads to say what the rest of us already knew. McCain's camp kept her under raps and that was the worst thing he could of done.

Smeared Jackson?
You've got to be kidding? Jackson and his family have been making a living off of the black community for ages. Junior is indeed involved in all this but of course, they all backtrack and claim ignorance when found out. On our local morning news today an interview with Jr. now has Jr. claiming, in not the exact words, that the gov is wacko and you can't believe what he says. It's all quite typical Chicago politics - been here my whole life and watching it is like watching a soap opera. I can only hope that the gov takes a whole bunch of them down with him when he goes. First Durbin called for a Special Election and now they are back tracking on that claiming the cost (which amazingly grows everytime you hear one of them mention it) is too much and now the Democrat Lt. Gov. Quinn is saying that he just needs to appoint a Senator in there and fast. What's the hurry? Don't Senators just vote "present" anyways? The Dems don't want to take a chance of losing that seat to a Republican - plain and simple. Has nothing to do with what the people want. Judy Baar Topinka ran against the gov in the last race and I would love to see her get back in, just to mess it all up. But that won't happen. They will end up giving the seat to who Obama wants. But of course I am sure he won't talk to anybody about that...

Jonah gives Ann...
...a run for her money in the entertaining sarcasm dept today!

Rep strategy
IMO the Reps need to focus like a laser on damning the corrupt Dem party, and should lay off personal attacks on Obama for the time being because:

-2010 congressional elections are coming up and the Rep focus should be to win back some seats. Shouldn't be hard to do either, with the record-low congressional approval ratings, high neg ratings for Pelosi, and all the corruption cases (Rangel, Frank, Dodd, Blago, etc.) emerging from the Dem side.
-Obama is teflon for now, just like Reagan was. Partly because the Left is in love with the guy (emotionally committed to him and simply not lisening to ANY criticism), and because he's well...kind of a likeable personality. If Obama stumbles in the coming years, the Reps may be able to target him, but to do so now just comes across as whining and sour grapes.

I love Rush's comments
regarding Obama and this mess. He says in a reasonable voice, "I believe Obama when he says he is clean. Why shouldn't I. I believe it when he says he never knew about Rev Wrights really bad sermons. I believe it when he says he wasn't aware of Bill Ayres terrorist past. Why shouldn't I believe him? I believe it when he didn't know about Father Flagers rants. Why shouldn't I? So why shouldn't I believe Obama when he says he knows nothing about Blango's attempt to sell his former senate seat?

Goldberg wrote:
"It would be premature, not to mention un-festive, to discard any of these delicious immoral morsels from this cornucopia of corrupt crapulence. Fortunately, there's no need to single out just one fragrance from this miasma of malfeasance or one dish from this smorgasbord of smut."

My aren't we the alliterate one this morning? Attend a Jesse Jacskson convention recently?

I don't know why it is that we slow down to look at the gore of an accident. Nor why some seem to take delight in the pain and misery of others. We sometimes dismiss and make allowance for those debased thoughts because they are usually reserved for our enemies or those we think deserve it.

Still, my God tells me to love my enemies and to pray for those who persecute me. If I think and act like they think and act, how can I profess to be any better? REO Speedwagon was wrong. With God's help, you can fight those feelings!

Brian, You Crazy Boy!
8 mile road is the boundary between Detroit and Southfield MI. I would put that city second to Chicago in its rich history of corruption either.

Favorite Founding Father
Jimmy baby hit the nail on the head. Goldberg should channel Madison in every article.

Here's another of my favorites:

"I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."

Blago
One of your greatest columns! Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Born in Chicago

Ashamed to say it, but I'm sitting here looking at my birth certificate issued by the County of Cook. I've had it for years and it's getting kind of tatty. It's done in the initial typewriter print; gives the name of the hospital (West Suburban); gives the name of the doctor; doesn't give the time of day my birth happened. It doesn't require the race of my parents. All the above are unlike Hawaii.

And it puzzles the dickens out of me why a US Senator would wait until he was 46 years old to get a copy of his birth certificate. Didn't he need one to prove he was eligible to become a state senator?

On the back of mine it says: NOTICE
'This certificate of birth should be carefully preserved as record of value for future use.
1. To establish age to enter school.
2. To establish age when applying for working papers.
3. To establish legal age for rights of merchandise.
4. For jury and military service.
5. To prove citizenship.
6. To obtain passports for travel to foreign countries.
7. To prove right of inheritance of property.'

The chimera man didn't need it for any of the above for 46 years? Sorta strains the credibility lobe.

Jut an off the wall thought
Maybe it would be a good idea to get Sarah Palin in to clean up Chicago and the whole tate while she's at it? The cleaning really needs to be done and she's the only politician I can think of with the b*lls to get it done.

Jersey vet
Pure as the driven snow?
Indeed, sir, and I am the true anointed Duchess of Miami.

Dr Douglas,
You sound as though you may be Oliver Wendell Douglas of Green Acres fame, slightly silly brother or sister, whatever the case may be.

It's all manure
"the only man in history to be able to pick up manure from the clean end."

It's beginning to look more like Obombo IS the clean end of manure and we all know there ain't no such thing.

Dr Douglas
You are an idiot, sir.

In Praise of John Edwards

And not just for the hair.

The media would dearly love to bury this story with Blagojevich, and leave their darling Obama unsullied. And if they could get away with doing so, they would.

But the one thing that they will NOT want repeated is to be scooped on this story by the National Enquirer. In that sense, Sen. Edwards may have in fact performed his greatest public service.

So, as distasteful as it is to their preferred stance of cuddling up to the president elect, the news rooms are going to actually have to start sending reporters to ask some of the difficult questions. Rahm "No Comment" Emmanuel will not get a pass for much longer.

Gee, what a shame.

Obama
How can anyone say that Obama is free of corruption when his wife got a cushy hospital job, Obama got paid for a lucrative book deal for a life not particularly noteworthy, in addition to a part time stint as a legal professor but which funded his ability to be a community activist? That's the Chicago way. And not much different from what Blago was trying to get for himself and his wife.

Dr. Doug
"Nevertheless, Goldberg's statement that "politics is eternal because human nature is unchanging" is wrong. No one believes in strict genetic determinism any more."
First of all, conservatives believe in God and orginal sin, and therefore there are lots and lots of people who believe human nature is unchanging. And conservatives still believe in good and evil. Secondly, isn't it odd that you refer to a "belief" in genetic determinism? Scientists should deal in facts, not beliefs, right? Like all the rest of you atheists?

A Good Time For Illinois
It's priceless moments like these which make me feel all tingly when crooks get what's coming to them.

Of course Obama knew about Blago's deals. Just like he knew about Ayers, Wright and Rezko. He may not have wanted to pay the price to place his Iranian candidate #1 for the seat, but apparently Jesse Jackson Jr could pay as candidate #5.

Obama swam with these sharks, he did nothing about it, except only to use them to his advantage to advance himself as fast and as high as he could go.

Do you think it's any accident or coincidence that out of all the candidates, that Obama with barely any experience, with his nefarious associations, that he was able to nail the presidency? Or that his wife Michelle got herself a cush job on a board giving her $300k a year? Why do you think Blago felt his wife was entitled to the same kind of job?

Blago will sing like a bird, unless people are willing to pay for his silence. I truly can't wait for the rest. This is the best Christmas gift ever.

FUNNY STUFF!
Obviously the list doesn't end there. Blago's hair not only appears bulletproof but seems to confirm reports that he is the human model for Playmobil action figures.

Had a friend
when I lived in Illinois that ran for City Councilman (subburb or Chicago) and wound up in a mental hospital with a nervous breakdown. He was an honest man that couldn't take the corruption in politics.

It must be exponentially greater the further up the food chain you go.

Who are the People in your neighborhood?
From Sesame Street:

Who are the people with Blagojevich?
Don't ya think it's rich?
Ain't life just a switch?
Oh who are the People with Blagojevich?
Watch and see who's in the buses' way.

Why did Obama flee the neighborhood?
Says he's just a hood
Up to no darn good
And why did Obama flee the Neighborhood
Was Blagojevich just in his way?

Oh now who will nominate his Senate seat
Get his Senate seat?
Will they lie and cheat?
Get ready to listen to old Durbin preach
Now that Governor Blago is out

When will we fully see Chicago thugs
Picture all their mugs
Will they still be smug?
And how long can Barry give it all a shrug?
They're the people that he needs,
When he campaigns in the streets
Now they're people that he'll toss away.

Jonah: Read this for next idea
I think what everyone's forgetting here is the corrupt view of govt that (primarily) Democrats have. They have the view that govt jobs should be forever, and should enrich the employees. They do that by fairly generous salaries, and egregiously enormous health and pension benefits. They view the taxpayers as their piggy-bank.
Democrats who've run local and city and state govts have ruined the landscape. They totally ruined the Capitalist enterprise that is supposed to freely support a LIMITED govt. Democrats don't care about the Capitalist enterprise and its vibrancy.
Jonah: For your next article, do some research on the policy platform of the Communist Party of the USA....... cpusa.org ........you will notice that it exactly matches the platform of Obama (and Pelosi/Reid). This is why we're in a HEAP of trouble for the next two years. Liberal Democrats have taken over control of the federal govt and their policy positions will be downright dangerous for our economy that already is only about 60% Capitalist.

Just like the Bimbo Eruptions
Bill Clinton taught us one thing and ought to have taught it well: You can keep a lid on the crapola machine for just so long, and when it blows, it sprays crapola in every direction and newsmen are suddenly employed again on the doo-doo trail.

So now we have the Corruption Eruption, and anybody who believes that King O lay down with dogs and got up without fleas is living in Care Bears Rainbow Land. Never been done and never will be done.

The other good thing that may come out of this is that some people may look at their own language and stop using f**k as noun, verb, adjective, adverb, gerund and article -- it may be that somewhere, someone will be discovered who can speak an entire sentence without using f**k in any way shape or form. Sister Mary Bernadette had a cure for bad language back in the Fifties and it was similar to that employed by the Dear Governor: she would make the culprit sit in the middle of the classroom on her desk and repeat the dirty word twenty-five times in a good clear voice. Then she would say *I hope you have all now heard that and we wont have to hear it in this school again.* After we play Count The Bleeps with Blogo, perhaps we can all take a holiday from f**k.

Pure as Driven Snow
It's reassuring to know that in this age of uncertainty we can always rely on one sure thing: Chicago politicians are always corrupt. Barack Obama had to profit from this milieu but probably none of the "favors" are sufficient to merit indictment.

The End of Politics? LOL

Great piece. What kind of dirt could an earnest contingent HALF the size of CSI-Wassilla have found in Hyde Park? Troopergate never rose past the point of innuedo and big print headlines, Blago is going to jail and I bet Rahm gets real quiet for a while!

Just ANOTHER guy in Mr. Obama's Neighborhood! Sure, boys and girls.....

Human nature does not change
Dr. Douglas, human nature is not determined by whether pseudo-scientists believe it to be determined by genetics or not.

8-Mile Road
is in Michigan...Detroit area to be specific...but then again, just as corrupt and dirty as far as I'm concerned...

Surprisingly objective

Although he unfairly smears Jackson, and numerous others, Goldberg's article is actually way above average for Townhall.com.

Goldberg actually admitted that "it looks like Obama did nothing wrong". This is a remarkable statement coming from a conservative, because the rest of the bunch will exploit this scandal for all it's worth regardless of Obama's innocence (just read the comments)

Nevertheless, Goldberg's statement that "politics is eternal because human nature is unchanging" is wrong. No one believes in strict genetic determinism any more.

Chicago and Obama
Ahhhh. Chicago! Gangsters, druggies, rappers, 8-mile road, convicted felons, politicians (but I repeat myself), and the ONE, even Obama or as Jonah put it, "hero-saint light-worker Jedi Knight Messiah that he is..., who can pick up manure from the clean end". How he can be elected in Daley's wonderland and remain clean is like expecting a girl at one of Nevada's "ranches" to be a virgin, it just defies logic and common sense. Yet, most of what the MSM passes for news these days has no relation to common sense either, more like the dirty end of manure. Once the bulldog gets through with the Gov'ner and running down the who did what and knew it when, I expect Libby's memory will look pretty good to all of the Democratic politicians involved in this mess. And I will wager there will be a lot more felony convictions than the one throwaway Libby had to take a fall for. Blago has no incentive to be quiet about possible Obama malfeasance as he is tossed under the bus, for even he cannot be stupid enough to think Obama would pardon him, altho he was stupid enough to keep making plans to sell the Senate seat after knowing his phone was wiretapped.... It will be interesting what the MSM and other news outlets come up with over the next week or two(or if the MSM even tries). Like Buchanan said today, this one is not going away, there are too many questions unanswered. Why oh why, does a seemingly intelligent man like Obama have such bleeping bad associates? I really think he should start being judged by the company he kept. Perhaps we are to parsimonious with our blame here, though, because after all, the voters in Illinois DO keep voting for this type of scum. I think Doug Giles is right, some people really should not be allowed to vote.

Patriotism
Selling senate seats is the highest form of patriotism.

Patriotism
Selling senate seats is the highest form of patriotism.

Did Blago & Obama Already Have A Deal?
This is part of the criminal affadavit against BLAGO.
You decide for yourselves what to make of it:

94. On November 5, 2008 [the day, by the way, that it was previously reported that Obama MET with Blagojevich; now conveniently retracted], ROD BLAGOJEVICH spoke with JOHN HARRIS regarding what ROD BLAGOJEVICH could obtain for the Senate seat.

After discussing various federal governmental positions that ROD BLAGOJEVICH would trade the Senate seat for, ROD BLAGOJEVICH asked about “the private sector” and whether the President-elect could “put something together there. . . .Something big.”

Thereafter, HARRIS suggested that the President-elect could make ROD BLAGOJEVICH the head of a private foundation.

ROD BLAGOJEVICH told HARRIS that he should do “homework” on private foundations “right away.”

ROD BLAGOJEVICH asked whether he could get a high-ranking position at the Red Cross. HARRIS stated that “it’s got to be a group that is dependent on [the President-elect],” and that a President probably could not influence the Red Cross.

ROD BLAGOJEVICH told HARRIS to “look into all of those.”

Just what did the President-elect know? And when did he know it?
