Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

There’s an anniversary this week we might do well to recall. On May 29, 1453 – just 555 short years ago -- troops led by Mehmed II broke through the walls of the ancient Christian capital of Constantinople.

Mehmed the Conqueror – as he would be known from that day forward -- rode triumphantly into the city on a white horse. Soon, churches would be converted into mosques. Constantinople would become Istanbul.

“For the West this was a dark moment,” writes historian Efraim Karsh in his masterful book, Islamic Imperialism. “For Islam it was a cause for celebration. For nearly a millennium Constantinople had been the foremost barrier – physically and ideologically – to Islam’s sustained drive for world conquest and the object of desire of numerous Muslim rulers.”

Mehmed cast himself as not just as a master builder of the Ottoman Empire, but also as the caliph – the supreme spiritual and temporal ruler of all the world’s Muslims, chosen to “act as Allah’s Sword ‘blazing forth the way of Islam from the East to West.’” He would go on to conquer Greece, Serbia, the Balkans south of the Danube and the Crimean peninsula. His grandson and great grandson would extend the caliphate to include the Levant, Egypt, the Arabian Hijaz including the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, Iraq, North Africa, and most of Hungary.

The desire to conquer the world – or even just one’s neighbors -- is hardly an Islamic invention. Genghis Khan is not a name: It’s a title. It means “universal ruler.” The man history knows as Genghis Khan believed it was his divinely ordained mission to lead the Mongols to global domination.

And he loved his work. “Man's highest joy is victory: to conquer his enemies,” he said, “to pursue them; to deprive them of their possessions; to make their beloved weep; to ride on their horses; and to embrace their wives and daughters.”

Upon entering the city of Bukhara in 1220 he proclaimed: “If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.”

Genghis Khan was a pagan, a shamanist, as was his descendant, Hulagu, who in 1258 conquered Baghdad -- among the world’s most sophisticated cities at the time -- and executed the reigning caliph.

A few years ago, Osama bin Laden, on one of his audio tapes, compared Colin Powell and Dick Cheney to Hulagu, saying they had inflicted more damage upon Baghdad in the 1991 Gulf War than had the Mongol king. Bin Laden may take some consolation in the fact that Hulagu’s son, and many other members of the ruling Mongol elite, eventually embraced Islam. (Whether the same will be true of the heirs of Powell and Cheney only time will tell.)

For centuries, the world was spun by what Nietzsche called the “will to power.” Africa and the Americas were conquered by European Christians. Napoleon was crowned emperor by the Pope. Tojo fought to expand Japan’s empire. Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin conquered in the name of totalitarian ideologies.

In recent years, however, the West has rejected not just Genghis Khan’s perspective on the joys of conquering, but the very idea of empire building, at least through martial means. Indeed, so thorough has this rejection been that many Americans and Europeans can no longer imagine anyone continuing to harbor such ambitions.

On that basis, they further assume that violence and terrorism – from the attacks of 9/11/01 to the missiles raining on Israel to the suicide-bombings in the marketplaces of Iraq – must be a response to oppression or occupation or some other “legitimate grievance.” History suggests otherwise. So, too, do the leaders of the various modern militant Islamist movements.

“We are in the process of an historical war between the World of Arrogance and the Islamic world,” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has declared, “and this war has been going on for hundreds of years.”

“We are not fighting so that you will offer us something,” said Hussein Massawi, a former leader of Hezbollah. “We are fighting to eliminate you.”

“Rome will become an advanced post for the Islamic conquests, which will spread though Europe in its entirety, and then will turn to the two Americas, even Eastern Europe,” Yunis al-Astal, a Muslim cleric and Hamas parliamentarian has pledged. “Very soon, Allah willing, Rome will be conquered, just like Constantinople was, as was prophesized by our prophet Muhammad."

Mehmed the Conqueror would understand, though his defenders would say he was never quite as radical as are the Islamic warriors of the contemporary era.

Know the Enemy
In the face of U.S. military technology, Islam will spread by infiltration and subterfuge. Our childish ideals of fairness and tolerance are known to them as our greatest shame and most useful weakness. Our children will not have the chance to realize why we lost. The Ummah has other plans for them.

you must remember this
you are dumb....and nobody listens to you. remember that, it will serve you well in the future. thanks cliff, good day.

Islam is a political ideology...
Islam is a virus. Moooslim "immigrants' are the carriers of this virus. Accept more Mohammedans in your land and you will see more mosques raised.

Harsh words but face the facts. Where ever the Mohammedans go, trouble and backwardness follows.

Islam is a religion but also very much a political ideology. The only solution is to greatly restrict their immigration into the West.

Unfortunately, Jorge Bush and Juan McAmnesty are both open borders, mass immigration lovers.

"Rome will be conquered, Allah willing?"
I think not.

The would-be heirs to the ways of Mehmed the Conqueror would be wise not to wake up any more sleeping dragons or giants in their bid for global supremacy.

If so much as one Islamist raises his hand in violence against Our Holy Mother the Church of Rome, he will seal the doom of the House of Islam.

Christians in general and Catholics in particular will be unified by such an act as they haven't been in hundreds of years, and out of this new unity will come a new Crusade.

And on that day, the war between Islam and the rest of the world will take on a life of its own.

It would be just the sort of war we avoided in Japan through the use of atomic weapons. When the Islamists run out of bombs, they'll use guns. And when they run out of bullets, they'll use knives, sticks, stones and their bare hands... a suicide defense which would put Tojo and the Japanese nationalists of old to shame.

So we had better be prepared for war to the hilt in the near future... because this is how the Islamists fight... and give no thought to taking any more prisoners or doing anything else that would be seen as weakness by our enemies. For a day will come when all eyes will be opened to the danger, and all th West will realize without doubt that the Islamists mean business... brutal, deadly business.

On the day the Islamists bring war to Rome and the Vatican, they will have sown the wind... and the whirlwind which they will ultimately reap will be like nothing they have ever known.

Iran and Islam
After 9/11, Saddam believed the “oil for food” fraud would stop the invasion because of the financial bribes in France, Germany and Russia. He was wrong.

Iran’s potential nuclear capability has been long forecasted. Iran and Syria have been the major source of terrorism directed at Israel. Syria channeled Iran’s terrorism through a cooperating Iraq. Al Qaeda has been a willing partner in support of the efforts to terrorize Israel, as has Saddam in Iraq. We now have Iran surrounded by our invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. And Syria is under heavy scrutiny. Al Qaeda is on the run in Iraq.

Syria and Iran are not dummies. They know the Democrats are supporting the terrorists by their criticism of Bush and the war in Iraq. The Democrats hope the dummies will not understand the real game plan in the Middle East.

To Boutte
You would be interested in reading the history of Constantinople. You would find that there were many voices sounding just like yours leading up to its' destruction.

The only issue I have with Cliff is his assurtion that Christions used to be bent on empire as much as Islam, when it fact it was just the leadership of these western powers that sought empire despite the people.

Once Christian nations began turning to democracy we see these same powers becoming very adverce to expansion. But perhaps that is why Chris's warning is so timely.

are you kidding
you cant be serious?/ this is an example of the most horribly misleading and inciteful writing ive ver seen and there has been a lot of it on these pages. do you want to compare his behovior toeward the Christians with the Christian behavior towards the jews, during and afafter the crusades up to and including the holocaust (these were christains who were doiing th killing. they even had chapels in sonme of the killing camps, although usually the guards were too busy to attend) compare it to jerusalen and tyre and 500 other cities that crusaders killed every man woman andchild they could find, EVEN IF THEY WERE christian the slaughters of the religious wars exceed in quality and quantily comparison the what the muslims did to christians. as for world comnquerers Any pope, Hitler, Stalin . Bush, and the list goes on. christian and otherwiwise/. stupid stupid columnust writng a stupid stupid story. you ought to be ashamed of yourself. if you want a slightly differnet list of worthwhile anniversaries to celebrate. pick any day starting in about 1500 here in north and south ameica. any DAY not year. and for 300 yeard you will find a constant if varying intensity of , slaughter. we are the best in the worl at it. white christian (any cult , we are not fussy)we revel in it. glory in it. all the while praising our kind and loving god for his tenderness and mercy.aint no muslim gonna beat me at anything.

Wild Bill
Unfortunately, Europe, including Rome, won't be conquered by an overt frontal assault that will start an uprising of the Christian world.
Instead, they will be conquered from within by the steadily growing European Mulim population.
Alot of Europeans seem to not notice or care that it's happening.
The apathy toward this encroachment and tolerance of all the little demands made by the Muslims ensure that more and bigger demands will be made later.
When the Muslims have big enough voting blocks in even one of these these countries, then what happens?
Bloodless coup? Imposition of Sharia law, followed by a 'cleansing' of infidels?
Would there suddenly be a Muslim country with advanced industrial capability and a modern military, complete with nuclear weapons and delivery systems right in Europe?
Would their demands become less like protests, and more like the "Do what we say, or else" sort of threats?
What then?

He who refuses to learn from history ...
It is sad to watch people prattle on in the recitation of the ignorance of their leftist teachers. Anyone who pretends that radical Islam has anything to offer but pain and suffering, political corruption and barbaric subjugation merely parades their ignorance.

Enlightened Islam is no more rational an expectation than was enlightened Marxism - both were based on mindless expectations that humans would choose of their own accord to behave in unselfish ways - both have proved predictably wrong - with devastating results.

Freedom literally hangs in the balance, threatened not only by Islamist thugs but also by evil men who control China, Russia, as well as the spreading menace of Chavez and friends in this hemisphere.

One wonders who programmed our children, and most of the leaders in the Democrat Party and major media, to be so ignorant of history, and why.

Islam:
War and conquest, famine, pestilence, and death.

mrbmrb: Please take your inane rants

to your blog.... Thank you.

Poor Butt: So out of touch with reality

... still includes http://www.ronpaul2008.com

How telling is that? Very!

".... those Scary Muslims are out to get me! Spend more! Fight more! Kill and die more, more, more! I need enemies!"

Funny Butt mentions that. Seems that TODAY, on al Qaeda's web site they had a graphic rendition of what DC will look like when they've bombed it.

Butt, like his other liberal-idiots are just fools!!

anne
no.

America Firsters Still Alive
Some people never get it. The America First bunch that almost cost us WWII before we even got in, and now the head-in-the-Muslim-controlled-sand are trying to get us to repeat the same old isolationist folly.

All May's trying to do is to get us to wake up and learn from history. His column is no more than a good jolt of caffeine so many of us like to get on the quick and cheap from our fast intake of coffees and stimulant drinks as we fly around like worker bees just trying to stay up with the economy that's getting out of control--thanks to our inability to understand what's going on over there. It's as if so many of have just woke up only to discover we're not liked in that part of the world and now they want us to pay dearly for old sins. We don't like it, but thanks to Cliff May and other writers like him who are only trying to give us a historical perspective on our present and possible problems ahead, we won't be as unprepared.

Unless, like the American Firsters of years past, we want to be. It won't just be a Constantinople or a Rome falling; it'll be a city on the Potomac.

Napoleon not crowned by the Pope
Napoleon was not crowned by the Pope; Napoleon crowned himself. Small point, perhaps. But the record needs correction.

political parodies
my blog. Find your smile.

Ann, there is no reasoning with
the likes of mrbmrb, he is a moron that will never learn even as they chop his head off. He will wonder why when he was their friend and protested against those of us that realize who the enemy is and their true nature. The drivel that these moonbats post simply displays their thorough ignorance of human nature.

rich
youre nuts

Rich: Poor mrbmrb has yet to post

one single cognitive, intelligent comment, and he is COMPLETELY lacking in spelling and grammar.

In fact, my 5yr. old grandson has a far better command of the English language than does mrbmrb, and can certainly express a cogent thought and facts better than mrbmrb...

Every time I think mrbmrb has lost his very last shred of dignity, there he is again...

Now, of course, lacking intelligence and dignity!

And while we're on the subject
of accurate Islamic history, the "golden" age of Islamic architecture was actually Byzantine architects (see Hagia Sophia)working for their new "masters". Nothing truly original, brilliant or creative was birthed out of Islam.

Bouette,
You left out the rest of the statement when you wrote "rdiculed(sic) and despised for our multiples to failure to win anywhere much since 1945", that should be followed by "thanks to Democrats."

mrbmrb
It doesn't take an army to defeat us. Just a few who don't believe in the American way of life like you and the lib socialists.

Breed them out
MarkinVA is correct, the Western World is barely sustaining a replacement birth rate with several Europe countries below replacement rate. And those are the countries with Muslim immigration issues.

Japan and Russia also have low birth rates.

As the US becomes more and more Hispanic, it will be interesting to see how that conflicts with the rest of the world becoming more and more Muslim.
