Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

The USA is being infiltrated by illegals, sold to foreign powers, and abandoned by its government. But are Americans enabling the dissolution of our economy and country, as well, by continuing to buy foreign goods?

America literally is being sold out from underneath Americans. According to the 2008 Economic Report of the President: "The United States is both the single leading recipient and leading source of foreign direct investment in the world. In 2006, total cumulative FDI in the United States was almost $1.8 trillion, 15 percent of the world total." In 2006, foreign-owned assets in the U.S. totaled roughly $16 trillion.

And where does all that foreign investment go?

As Paul Craig Roberts, who once was the assistant secretary of treasury under President Ronald Reagan and associate editor of The Wall Street Journal, wrote seven years ago: "Very little of the foreign money flowing into the United States is for the purpose of building Toyota and BMW plants. Eighty percent to 85 percent of direct investment by foreigners in the U.S. economy goes into mergers and acquisitions. In 2000, 97 percent of direct investment by foreigners went for the purchase of existing U.S. assets." And those assets include U.S. government securities and liabilities, including our national debt, which is mounting into the teens of trillions.

We all know China serves as an example of this vicious cycle. American companies, from agribusinesses to Wal-Mart, have proliferated markets with so many "Made in China" labels that our nation has one big tag dangling from the toe of Florida -- "Sold to China." And do the Chinese mind their material and monetary dominance over America? Of course not. In turn, they take the money that we pay them for their goods and invest (lend) it back to us via our government as one of the groups of "foreign investors" in our national debt. And why? Lately, the reason has been so Congress can bail out more American industries and deepen our bondage (and ownership) to countries such as China.

In the same 2002 column, Roberts eerily predicted: "The United States is on its way to becoming a country whose corporations are foreign-owned and foreign-based. The United States will decline as a consumer market, as there will be no high-productivity jobs to support consumer demand. The United States is importing a new population that will help it on its way to Third World-ism. Every year, millions of poor and uneducated immigrants, both legal and illegal, pour into the United States from alien lands. … Today, 20 percent of the U.S. population is foreign-born or children of foreign born. This massive influx drives up the demand for income-support programs, while driving down the taxable wages in retail- and service-sector jobs, where Americans are forced to seek employment as higher-paying automotive, electronic, textile and manufacturing jobs leave the country. The United States is still a superpower, but it is a country with very little, if any, control over its future and its destiny, a country whose time is running out."

It's time to realize that we're all together in this boat called America, that the boat is sinking, and that government is not our salvation. Our hope is not in Congress or even a political-messianic deliverance through the presidency. The only economic stimulus plan they should be preparing is the one that rewards manufacturers and consumers who promote and purchase American-made products and services. Our government doesn't need to dole out more bailouts and drown us deeper in debt. We don't need more bad trade agreements, such as NAFTA, or to provide tax relief incentives for corporations that are outsourcing. We need fair trade, not free trade. And we need a fair tax, not a flowering system of taxes.

Let's be honest. Justifications abound for purchasing foreign goods, and many of them make perfect sense. Reasons range from price to quality, but, as we have with gas prices, maybe we will continue to enable foreign dominance in commerce and beyond by paying the prices and not coming up with alternatives. We say we can't afford to buy American, but maybe it's time to say we can't afford not to. By supporting our homeland, we not only are investing in America and boosting the economy but also are helping to reverse staggering unemployment rates and keeping companies from going under. We all can do our part to bail the water out of our sinking ship by buying American goods and services.

But be careful with labels, as there's an obvious difference between "Made in USA" and "Assembled in USA." And some labels lie, so do your homework. Take some time to understand what it means for a business to comply with the "Made in USA" standards. And check reputable consumer Web sites, such as MadeInUSAForever.com and StillMadeInUSA.com, to search for domestically manufactured goods and services.

The good news is that, according to a Gallup Poll, 72 percent of Americans today are more concerned with the geographical origins of products they purchase, and 50 percent even are willing to pay more for American-made products. For many, "Made in USA" labels represent an increased concern for work and environmental conditions, quality and consumer safety. Buying American is also a way to rekindle patriotism.

If you're old enough, you'll remember when "Made in USA" was a badge of honor. Well, I'm proposing a buyers' revolution in which we all economically win that medal of valor. If the government isn't going to help us by securing our borders, reducing outsourcing, or ceasing debt caused by bogus bailouts and out-of-control spending, then we the people have got to take back the financial future of our country. The buck stops here -- in America. One resolution we all should make in 2009: Buy "Made in USA." Don't just go green; spend green -- in homemade products and services. If just half the country followed suit, our downturned economy would turn around in half the time.

I like what you have to say,
Chuck, but you're whistling in the wind.

Yeppers...indeed.........

"The United States is still a superpower, but it is a country with very little, if any, control over its future and its destiny, a country whose time is running out."

I don't buy...
... the argument. I'm old enough to remember when most consumer, durable & capital goods were made in the US. I remember the heated rush to robotize production lines & the educational push to retrain workers to high-tech jobs. Throughout, the message was clear: big business would do whatever it took to increase their profits. THEY took the jobs overseas. They ran from American unions & from the government's business regulations -- including civil rights, affirmative action, gender equality, ad infinitum.
So now you think the schmuck who shops at Walmart is a bad guy, and he has it in his power to put this genie back in the bottle? Fine. But in the meantime, where does he get a TV? Some antique shop? A pair of workboots? From Red Wing, for about ten times the price? And I guess he can forget about electronics entirely -- PCs, cameras, even his garage-door opener.
Where was your computer made, Norris?

No one has an answer to this one. But I'd bank on the American people retaining every form of world leadership well into the distant future. It's in our histroy & our character.

Norris is right by Jeffrey Schrembs
America is losing it's "soul" one fixed Election after another.

This is/was the United States of America. A CHRISTIAN Nation of God worshiping, honest, law abiding, help your brother out, "sky is the limit" Country. YES, America has made mistakes with Slavery being first and foremost. However, there is NOT another Nation/Civilization EVER who God has blessed as much and yet it is now "politically correct" to try to turn our back on the FOUNDATIONS of this Country. I pray for this Country and for all American Citizens to NOT go..."quietly into the night". If you can't find the heart/passion/etc. to FIGHT for this Country...then you deserve what you get.
Nuff said.

Maybe just an actor only.
Maybe this column would be better as a general values lesson instead of a serious examinination of the problem. But if so, it should be presented as such. I see positions advocated as though they'd really matter. They won't.

It's a great all-American sentiment, buying only American, but only the government can protect domestic industry by enforcing fair trade practices and ending so-called free trade, and individuals can't do much. So, without a specific program of how-tos, column presents an "easier said than done" advice, and so is a waste of time and an unpatriotic distraction from what actions really can make a difference.

And speaking of foreign imports, I wonder what Norris thinks about our imported president elect who refuses to produce a record of birth.

If Norris just shows a poker face when that card comes up, just like most of the rest of the conservative actors with no real faith in their own convictions are doing, then there's no point in listening to anything he says. After all, he's just an actor.

Too late, I fear.
America is in decay, from its morals to its business practices, and no longer has enough pride or will to protect itself from invasions both legal and illegal.

Look the president and congress we've elected. We're getting just what we deserve.

why the complicity by government...
...in aiding and abetting the ILLEGAL alien incursion?

Many have wondered why many pols at all levels of govt. could so blatantly ignore the law and common sense to accommodate ILLEGALS (see sanctuary cities, support for scamnesty, etc.). The answer is: MONEY and power!

I will follow with a post about what I have dubbed the "Conspiracy Of Evil." Here in Georgia, our 2 Senators had been influenced by $ from miscreant employers of ILLEGAL aliens such as chicken pluckers and meat processors. Our senators had seemed to be riding the fence on the issue. They and others had listened to the artful and beguiling myths about "simply doing jobs Americans would not do."

But myriad Georgians got engaged and made CLEAR that we did not like being the fastest-growing ILLEGAL alien state. We got our 2 U.S. Senators to vote against Kennedy-McCain scamnesty and the Dream Act (which would have rewarded college-age ILLEGALS with subsidized tuition and a path to citizenship). We also got our state legislature to crack down on ILLEGALS pervading Ga. and plaguing her with social pathologies-- just like N.C., Ok, Az., Ms., Mo., and other states have had to do.

The best group to help YOU save YOUR country and YOUR state is NumbersUSA. Several honest U.S. Senators said that this group was most responsible for derailing Kennedy-McCain. BOOKMARK THEIR ADDRESS HERE:

http://www.numbersusa.com

They have all sorts of reference sources and prepared subject-specific, targeted e-mails for you to send to members of Congress.

You can also e-mail or call your reps in Congress right here at their official sites... tell them that you support the SAVE Act and oppose ANY attempts at scamnesty.

http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/index.htm

http://www.numbersusa.com/content/issues.html

Get engaged, folks! America would be a TERRIBLE thing to lose! YOU can help save YOUR country!

The Conspiracy of Evil

The biggest challenge to stopping ILLEGAL aliens is that the money and organization (hence power) is mainly on the pro-ILLEGAL side. The pro-ILLEGAL forces include an unlikely, strange bedfellow alliance between groups which want to USE them in different ways--> the Conspiracy Of Evil.

Miscreant employers obviously simply want to exploit their labor-- never mind the myriad, egregious socio-economic problems they foist on America... hence, their all-in costs to society are immense and snowballing. Furthermore, the "savings" to miscreant employers are pocketed by them --> your hotel room or head of lettuce is NO cheaper to YOU.

The PC left wants to get ILLEGALS voting and seize permanent control for leftist "elites" via yet more inexorable big entitlement government... power flows to statist 'Crats/the left when YOUR tax $ flows to Washington. Try to find a liberal who does not really favor scamnesty, while feigning talk about enforcement first.

The scandal-plagued Catholic Church needs replacement bodies for the pews; and ILLEGALS can put more in the collection plates in America than in Mexico... the Church still has mega-millions to pay out for priest perversion (after deciding to forgive each priest one act of perversion-- Jesus!):

http://articles.latimes.com/2007/jul/15/local/me-priests15

Ethnocentric Hispanic groups really do want an effective Reconquista, so they hide behind claims of racism and pleas for PC multiculturalism and one world, NWO kumbaya.

http://www.libertygunrights.com/NAUFactSheet.pdf

Finally, the remote elites, including the liberal MSM, do not see what all the fuss is about. Besides, they LIKE their cheap ILLEGAL maids and yard-workers, and THEIR children will not have to go to schools enervated by "those people."

the artful myth of a divided citizenry

Several fiarly recent polls had indicated that independents now rank ILLEGAL immigration as their GREATEST CONCERN for America. It is a disingenuous farce when the PC ilk, MSM, and Hispanic apologists posit that Middle America is divided about what to do about ILLEGAL aliens, or suggest that it is a serious concern only among "fringe conservatives."

The general public overwhelmingly favors REAL immigration reform (BUT not Scamnesty posing as "C.I.R."). Poll after poll shows that Americans want well-enforced, sensible, and sustainable immigration laws.

* 89% of Americans think ILLEGAL immigration into the U.S. is a problem (30% "extremely serious," 33% "very serious," and 26% "somewhat serious." (Time Magazine, Jan. 2006)

* 82% think that not enough is being done along the borders to keep ILLEGAL aliens from crossing into the country. (New York Times/CBS May 2007)

* 68% feel that the number of immigrants who cross the border, whether legal or ILLEGAL is "too high". (Polling Company, Sept. 2006)

* 62% oppose making it easier for ILLEGAL aliens to become citizens of America. (Quinnipiac Univ., Feb. 2006)

*71% believe that ILLEGAL aliens should not qualify for in-state tuition rates at colleges and universities.

*77 % oppose making drivers' licenses available to ILLEGAL aliens.

*71% favor requiring foreign visitors to carry universal I.D. card

*77% say that employers can require English-only on the job

Who is destroying America?
That liberals do not care about saving America from being destroyed is a fact; however, the little secret is that W Bush and his comrades were also doing their part.

Contrary to what loony democrats think, G W Bush never was a conservative guy. He was a liberal and a very smart guy who knew how to appease Christian conservatives and at the same time flirting with the “peace loving” Muslims.

So, actually, wannabe-socialits-democrats and anti-American media president-elect Soetoro Hussein must be grateful to W Bush for helping them enter in the White House for the next four years.

See, W Bush preferred to pardon drug dealers and leave two American border patrol agents to rot in jail only for protecting the American border, how sweet isn’t it?

So, what about the bail out? W Bush signed the bail-out in despise of the protest of republicans and other conservatives. In other words, W Bush gave them the finger, how nice.

Now, the putrid and rotten Democrat mobsters of Chicago are coming out of the closet: Blag tried to sell a senate seat and had a respectful remark to Soetoro Hussein: “Obama is a f…..g…” Richardson just remembered that he has some “business” to take care of, the clown of Minnesota, Franken, “won” a stinky seat in the senate, and Carolyn Kennedy has the blessing of Clinton to be her successor.

This is the change that Soetoro Hussein promised. Old fart democrats, crooks, and the Kennedy dynasty.

This is what is destroying America.

the mythology of the Hispanic vote

It is indeed the artful pro amnestia ilk which is braying that Hispanics are alienated by opposition to ILLEGAL aliens. Fully half of LEGAL Hispanics voted for tough new anti-ILLEGAL state laws in Az. in 2006. Were THEY "nativist and racist"?!

The reason that Hispanics vote about 2:1 for 'Crats is that they are more likely to be poor and undereducated-- people vote their pocketbooks. Middle class Hispanic-Americans are no fonder of ILLEGALS than middle class blacks are of ghetto gangs. And Hispanic immigrants, legal or ILLEGAL, will remain at the bottom socio-economically, which is atypical of immigrants. Ergo, to tolerate ILLEGALS is to embrace a welfare class.

http://www.dallasfed.org/research/indepth/2004/id0401a.html

The left wants to make voters of 12-20 million (mostly poor Hispanic) ILLEGALS BECAUSE they will surely vote for big entitlement govt. and would assure the hegemony of the left in perpetuity, because current ILLEGALS would morph into 60-100 million new Hispanics here over the next 20 years per Heritage:

http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/wm1076.cfm
http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/SR14es.cfm

It is also true that it was the alienation of conservatives and the failure of RINOS to be true republicans that served up this loss. Amnesty John was the candidate of the RINOS. As for RINO fantasies of appealing to "conservative social values" of poor Hispanics, the left just chuckles at that fools' gold fallacy.

The turnout in this election was LOWER than in 2004, despite all of the new voters signed up by the left. In 2008, it was conservatives who were disheartened that made the difference.

People voted more AGAINST Presidente Jorge and other RINOS like Amnesty John than FOR Obama.

Get engaged to stanch the ILLEGAL alien invasion, folks, or lose your country! See how at my earlier posts here.

We need to restore HONEST competition
I solidly agree that fascist corporations are a HUGE problem - cheifly the Federal Reserve System - every dime of the income tax goes to this PRIVATE central bank - and in exchange they corrupt politicians - the Fed & the Income tax came in together - from the same corrupt plutocratic source - they should likewise both be obliterated together - yet as for the Fair Tax - there is no legit need for this as the goal is to replace one illegitimate tax system with another that APPEARS reasonable - yet the ultimate goal is insideously to maintain a bloated gov't that has completely ignored the constraints of the constitution - esp the 9th & 10th amendments - further - the interventionist foreign policy creates enemies like Vinzini in "The Princess Bride": "I've been hired to start a war - it has a long and presigeous history!..." The Cocaine Importing Agency has funded the Radical Whahabist (sp?) madrasas - without these agent provacatuers - esp. with Israel's Massad - and GOD FORBID - we hold politicians accountable for having LIED TO US! Three things to end the absurd pretext of the "War on Terror" that Aaron Russo warned us was the basis for the Mark of the Beast and the world gov't that would enforce its use:

1 - stop provoking the Muslim world via corrupt covert actions
2 - openly and contritely apologize to the world for having allowed these corrupt elements to do what they have done unchecked for so long and most difficultly,
3 - hold the corrupt elements accountable for their actions - such as extraditing the amoral Henry Kissenger to Bolivia to face justice for his crimes

James Madison rightly said: "If tyrannny & oppression ever come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy". Apart from the agent provactuers there would be no radical Islam - the real enemy is the enemy domestic that is complicit with treason.

Thanks,

Hell
I agree with Norris here, but then I look at the posts on this and other columns and the opinions only deepen my depression.

Until you see past silly lines and labels--right, left, black, white--designed to cloud your common sense, nothing you or I or anyone else does individually to save America is going to work.

Immigration reform? Yes, all for it, but you and I won't be heard by our so-called elected representatives because they've stuffed their ears with money to keep out the noise of the riff-raff like we the People. And they're hoping you continue to fight right, left battles, they encourage this sort of pointless debate. God forbid we all wake up one morning of one mind to rid ourselves of these parasites.

Until you're all willing to get off your collective assets and do something, anything, like march on Washington in numbers too big to ignore, or dare I say it, have ourselves a new revolution, a second American revolution, return to the Constitution, and throw the whole Washington machine out of work and out of the country, talking here or anywhere is merely blowing smoke. Which is what those profiting the most, foreign or domestic, are just so happy to encourage you to do.

More and more, it looks to me like we've got one foot in Hell and are just getting our toes singed in preparation for the fires to come. Because none of you will rise above the smoke screen those with their own interests in mind keep blinding you with long enough to at least glimpse the big picture.

The Ship is Sinking
My ship is sinking, I and my fellow passengers are in the water. All the life boats are going down with the ship. Each is doing his best to keep his head up, last another minute, hoping something will come along to grab on to. We are getting tired now, helping each other is a struggle. I look around and notice a big beautiful yacht with some people in suites eating and drinking on the aft deck. One looks me in the eyes and says, hey buddy," help is on the way, we're having a committee meeting tomorrow, and I'll have the captain of that ship before that committee and make him answer for his behavior." Mean while I suggest you fill out these forms, (which he throws in the water) and have your attorney certify who you are and we will consider you problem. I and the rest of the passengers drowned.

Don't just curse the darkness...
... get involved to save America! Middle Americans JUST LIKE YOU have stopped scamnesty so far, but it is a daunting, ongoing challenge against moneyed, powerful, organized special interests!

As Mexifornia residents can attest, we risk losing America soon due to ILLEGAL alien voter fraud, the Reconquista agenda, and morphing ineluctably into a third world welfare state as they vote it in. The left is not waiting for them to become citizens-- why be bothered by that mere technicality?! They load them up in vans and hand them instructions in Espanol on how to vote. It is "40 acres and a mule/we're your friends" all over again.

Many RINOS/CINO'S are utter FOOLS to speak of capturing some of their votes because of purported "conservative social values." [What, pray tell, is "conservative" about wanton penchants toward crime, drugs, gangs, illegitimacies, ignorance/dropouts, barrio blight and balkanization, tax dodging, and identity fraud?!?!]

Legal, middle class Hispanics sometimes vote as conservatives, but ILLEGALS will vote 95:5 for entitlement government, thus soon inexorably morphing America irretrievably into a welfare state third world country, partly because they will insist that their myriad indigent, ignorant relatives all come here as well. Even a liberal demographer has admitted that ILLEGAL immigration will become the "the mother of all unfunded mandates for government largess."

If we do not stop ILLEGALS soon, it will be TOO LATE. Join the fight by rattling cages in Congress; you can reach them directly here at their official sites, or send targeted free e-mails via NumbersUSA... bookmark the sites, and get involved ASAP! America would be a terrible thing to lose... just look at Mexifornia as a harbinger of the national barrio to come.

labels and gates
Chuck, stop doing the kung-fu movies and get yourself to Washington. We need your voice in Congress. You sure have more to say than Caroline Kennedy. And, yes, I do remember the "Made in America" label. Now, it seems to be something to be ashamed of. Isolation looks pretty good to me. We are NOT resposible for the rest of the world. Let them fight their battles. We need only to protect ourselves. Just read in the Dallas Morning News that Bush is proposing a taxpayer-funded gate for the neighborhood to which he's moving in Dallas. Well, great. His safety is secured, but he's leaving us with a joke of a border fence that will never be finished and we'll remain open to the invasion from the south. Vaya con Dios, Mr. President!

Great column Chuck! EXTRA materials...
I agree with M.L.Bushman, great article Chuck, but what's with the pessimistic posts at the beginning here??? If you've given up the fight, then you'll already given up America! You're the exact people Chuck is addressing. Here's a few more words from his WND EXCLUSIVE...

"In my movie, Invasion U.S.A., a terrorist by the name of Rostov plans to unleash a reign of terror on the U.S. Before he does, however, he decides to go after a former CIA Agent played by me. My character, Matt Hunter, once had Rostov's life in his hands but on orders captured him alive. Now, Rostov is haunted by nightmares of Hunter killing him. So Rostov goes after him but does so in vain, because Hunter leaves his passive resistance for an active hunt. The one big problem is that Hunter is only one man, and Rostov has hundreds of men working to tear the country apart."

"Sometimes life feels that way. You feel like it’s you against the world. I’m sure that’s the way America’s Founders felt. And I know it’s the way true patriots feel today. There are hundreds of reasons why people don’t believe we can turn around America, but we have to try—to keep fighting. Our country has been invaded and is being overtaken. And it’s time we take it back."

I almost expected...
...a chorus of "look for the union label" at end of that essay.

I agree that there is a big difference between a fair market and a free market. However, the buying decision revolves around a different dynamic.

I think it was the CEO of Celestial Tea who said, "Price, Speed, Quality, pick any two". Most consumers look for a balance between the three when making a buying decision based on need, ability to pay, and personal preferences.

The current auto industry debacle is a prime example. Union labor has made the industry unable to compete, government has interfered by inserting regulations and a green agenda, while management has ignored the business basic of producing what the consumer wants to buy.

There has to be more behind a product than just "Made in USA". It has to satisfy a need, at the best quality for the price and be readily available.

That is what American made products used to be.

I would buy American only,
But what is available. Can't find anything, I do own a GM car. Can't say it was wholly made with all American parts. Give me a list, and I will do it. Sad isn't it. Maybe a million person on Washington would work. think the media would cover it. Need to wait until the Obama honeymoon is over though.

"In order to stimulate the economy, we need to return to a taxation system similar to that established by our Founders. They did not penalize productivity through taxes the way we do today. They had no Internal Revenue Service. They believed in minimal taxation. They did not pay income taxes, which were prohibited by the Constitution. They did not pay export taxes, which were also prohibited by the Constitution. But they did tax imports. The Founders believed in free trade within our own borders and a system of tariffs on imported goods. That’s a system that makes sense to me. It is a system designed to preserve individual liberty and encourage productivity (through no income taxes and no discouragement of domestic production through export taxes), while choosing to keep taxes as painless as possible (as taxes on foreign imports)."

Too Late-Free Trade Fetishists Have Won
While that may sound like I'm against trade, I'm not. I only think we need to re-commit ourselves to more domestic engineering and manufacturing, for an independent, sovereign country can not continue without both.

We should drastically cut taxes on corporations in order to stimulate domestic economic activity, with an emphasis on substantial industries like manufacturing, else we are simply going to be a nation of non-technical "consumers", working retail.

You can not be a sovereign country of shopping malls, nail salons and lawn care services - all of which employ large numbers of illegal aliens.

Thanks Chuck...RickyLS!
Loved Norris extras at http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=852 82 Especially as an auto worker, the truth in his statements...

"The Federal Trade Commission defines 'Made in the USA' as 'all or virtually all' of the parts, processing and labor that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. We must also be careful, because some foreign cars are now being 'Made in the USA.' Some companies do in fact 'insource.' Foreign companies, such as Nissan, Honda, and Nokia have set up domestic plants and often pay American workers higher than the national average.

"'We make them here and they're built by American citizens and increasingly we're designing them here,' said Kim Custer, spokesman for the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, which represents Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Isuzu, and Subaru. Let me tell you what, if anything,
is going to "save" America, providing there's enough time left.

Go to Schlafly's column and read the first post by Edna Eagle.

If there's any hope at all of turning this around, it is in the newer generations. Everything else has been so corrupted, there is no hope there. Pull your children out of the state run educational gulag and re-educate them from the bottom up.

Maybe there's still hope, but it's going to be a long time in the wilderness.

Getting Religion a little late, Chuckie?
"...But are Americans enabling the dissolution of our economy and country,..."

You bet they are but not because of what you think. Conservatism has sucked the honor out of work. Back before the rise of conservatism workers and owners thrived. Then conservatism sowed the seeds of division. When it no longer became possible to support a family decently from a day's wage the beginning of the end began. When "burger flippers and Walmart employees" became subjects of jokes and contempt workers wisely realised that their work was not appreciated or valued. THAT Chuckie was how and when it began.

I'm old enough
to remember buying made in USA merchandise.

I remember it took a week's pay to buy a new dress, and to support the union wages of the workers. That was fine unless you happened to be in a non-union job yourself. I usually ended up buying my clothes at thrift stores second hand because I couldn't pay for the new ones.

I never owned a new car. NEVER. The closest I came was one that was two years old and had just 12,000 miles on the odometer. Again, those union wages were just too high for me when I was not in a union job.

And don't get me started on electronics. My first color television was also used. A new one was about as far out of reach for me as a new car.

I almost laugh when I think about those bad old days now. I'm still not in a union job but I own four color television sets; one big screen and they were all purchased new. I haven't bought used clothes for nearly twenty years.

It's unfair to expect people who earn half the union wages of factory workers to pay inflated prices for merchandise so those factory workers can have a better standard of living than the people buying the merchandise.

Sorry, but union workers made their own bed.

Legacy
Just another legacy of a miserably failed and corrupt republican administration.

Where were you 5 years ago, Chuckie?

Try to Find U.S. Made Clothing ...
You won't. And many of the "Made in America" labels are incorrect. For instance, the ONLY U.S. made car is Toyota. (I'm sorry but I don't remember which one.) About the only thing Detroit does to "American made" cars is put in the last screw. Are any electronic items made here? The last television I ran into with a "made in America" label was made in Mexico. They shipped it to the U.S. in two parts, slid one inside the other, and then put the label on it.

I don't like foreign made and avoid them when I can, particularly China, but there are a lot of items you simply can't get otherwise.

We are going to regret .....
Years from now, perhaps not that many, we are going to look bak & regret our current policies, or lack thereof, on illegal immigration. However, this will be too late. Our country will already be ruined beyond any ability to repair it!

Good article

It's just too late. America has been sold already. Part of the one world order we're moving towards at breakneck speed.

We've been sold out folks. Our politicians have little to do with guiding America anymore. Between the Bilderberg Group, the Trilateral Commission and the CFR, the shadow groups running America, indeed the world, or most of it. We are all being led down the prim rose path.

Why can't the mainstream media, or even Townhall write about this? Are they already sold too?

I think that now, American needs to fill it prisons with corrupt politicians and corporate heads, throw every illegal immigrant out and take strict control of who comes into the US and how long they stay, manage trade to positively impact the US and reduce the tax burdens on American citizens, demand transparency, responsibility and right conduct from every elected official, shut down the ACLU, take the control of the management of US resources out of the hands of the environmentalist groups and with the exception of aiding and assisting Israel, stop aiding and stay out of the Middle East (read Muslim nations). Chuck, I am a fan of yours, but when it comes to economics, you sound about as naive as a five year old.
Proesperity comes from producing tangible goods, not from services like healing each other or selling hamburgers to each other.
We have continuously elected idiots as our leaders for decades now, so now we are reaping what we have sowed. After all, every people have the government they deserve.
Agriculture is the last mega "industry" we have left producing tangible goods. It is also in an accelerating process of moving off shore thanks to the myriad of mostly frivolous regulations meant mostly to justify the enormous bureaucracies such as OSHA, EPA, FDA, USDA etc.etc. America has become a dictatorship by bureaucrats and this, unfortunately, also includes our miserably failing educational system.
We import as much as 20% of our food at present and many projections indicate that we should be importing up to 50% five years from now.
Isolationism is not the answer Chuck! A friendlier business environment is.
We need to eliminate capital gains taxes, slash business taxes to the bone, impose practical work rules instead of hindering ones imposed by unions and, most importantly, stop the bureaucratic harassment with insipid and frivolous regulations.

Conservatism caused the exporting of jobs. It is the constant harping about "me" and more importantly to heck with everyone else that is innate to the failed philosophy

Heck, if none of this appeals to you, you could always manufacture light bulbs or freon.

Alternatively, you could leave things the way they are and snivel because Americans don't want to pay the massive taxes and regulatory costs our government imposes on anyone who makes anything.

Protectionism?
I disagree with the symantics that's used in Norris' column. By definition "free trade" would have to be "fair" trade; otherwise, it really wouldn't be "free". NAFTA was/is a good agreement.

The capital flows/current account deficit matters are a serious issue; however, isolating ourselves is exactly sounds exactly like what Hoover began in the late '20s. Fiscal reforms and (I agree with Norris on this) an overhauled system of taxation will change the situation. By the same token, US companies are also generating much of their profits and cash flow from abroad; it's a two-way street. Just soley looking for a "Made in the USA" label will not solve the underlying issue of poor fiscal discipline and a consumer thirst for virtually any useless product that's out of control.

A living wage is one that allows an individual to house and feed themselves with a small amount left over as a minimum. It varies from location to location. Economics was my undergraduate major from a good school; I was a VP in several foreign companies and ran several companies myself.

COLLAPSE IS NOT PREVENTABLE
My state, Texas, was an independent sovereign nation before it voluntarily joined the Union. A time will come, I hope, when the citizens of Texas will decide that it would be better to return to our former status through secession than to continue to go down with the sinking American ship.

All kinds of difficulties can be handled more easily when the government is much smaller and therefore more accessible to and controllable by the citizenry. Obviously, we could hang corrupt politicians more easily in Austin than in Washington.

Other states may decide to do the same thing for the survival of their people and their traditional way of life.

I believe some parts of our nation can survive quite well by this method while the remainder will suffer massive dissolution as the funny muney fiat currency eventually becomes worthless and the poor and middle classes of necessity descend into grinding poverty.

Today we are prospering beyond our wildest dreams, without government subsidies, paying taxes and now competitive enough to sell globally. We couldn't do this under the American bureaucratic tyranny.
It's up to America to decide what it wants, political correctness, bureaucratic and legal tyranny, excessive taxes and regulations or does it want to be peaceful and prosperous ?
PS - We don't even try selling our products in America as it is one of the most protectionist countries we know of when it comes to agri-products. We sell to 27 countries at present, including Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Thanks for the "Made in USA" websites. I've added them to my shopping bookmarks.

Just yesterday I was in the local Wal-Mart looking for either a floor or table lamp. I checked all of the lamps on the shelf and all were made in China. I needed the lamp, so I bought one. The alternative was spend hrs shopping all the major chains looking for a "Made in USA" lamp.

The last time I bought a power tool, a sabre saw, I skipped over all the "Made in China" brands and spent 2 to 3 times as much for one made by "Bosch" a premier German brand but manufactured in Chicago. It was the only one of about five brands available that was made in the USA.

Right now, Americans are willing to buy anything made anywhere if it is less expensive than it's competitors and retailers are painfully aware of it. The only way it will change is if consumers demand US made products and eschew out-of-country manufacturers. As long as manufacturers can get labor at $1 - $2 per hr. in Asian, African, and South American sweatshops, don't hold your breath for any big changes.

Our country is being run under the

Norris makes some EXCELLENT points!

Of course, with OPEN BORDERS Obama soon to be in our White House, but with our unemployment HIGHER than it's been in 32 YEARS, the obviously LOGICAL thing to do would be to CANCEL the "WORK VISAS" and send those people home.

That would be a big help in the IT industry, as well as many others.

We are ALREADY "foreign Ground"
I read a headline somewhere on the Internet in the last year (people out there--help me out with this?) that stated that with the foreign purchase of a prime company in NYC--that the US was officially owned by foreigners.
In other words--since land is the only thing they can't make more of (although some cities in Florida might disagree) that with the purchase of companies and the land they sit on--foreigners are now owners of more than 50% of US soil.
As long as they paid for the land--and pay their taxes--it would seem that our Government has no problem with this! I DO--this is MY country, land of my birth. I want it to be my children's country too, and it no longer is!
I also heard from an importer/shipper in Savannah 3 weeks ago or so--that China has recently created a town devoted to manufacturing many different big-selling things, along with company-owned housing for efficiency.
The town is officially named: you guessed it: USA !! SOOO--even the "made in USA" label now needs to be viewed with suspicion!
Buying American is similar to trying to buy organic. Our Government is so bent on controlling everything we do that they'd love for us to be entirely unable to buy green--if they couldn't control it. They do NOT want us to treat ourselves and our health issues, they do not want us to eat healthy. That prefer to force us to give money to big pharma and the politicans!
I try very hard to either buy American made, American produced, or grow it myself--and the government is johnny-on-the-spot to try to keep me from doing it!
I have another rant I'll put on here another time--about the Dept. of Agriculture and trying to regulate where ALL the chickens/animals of any kind owned anywhere in the US are with tracking chips--but they have no idea where all the legal or illegal aliens are! (and of course, it'd be "inhumane" to micro-chip them as soon as they accept any free service from this country--wouldn't it?)

And they will also be interviewed on Trinity Broadcasting System at 7:00pm http://www.tbn.org/

I'm old enough to have seen....
Items labled "made in Japan" which were basically junk. I recall the first "Honda" which looked like a pregnant rollerskate, and I watched as these products all became more an more dominant at less cost over "made in USA". I have also been watching "made in China" and god only knows what other countries being sold here. My point being, we all know how Japan has come from war torn little Islands to who they are today, now multiply that by the thousands and you'll see what China is growing into, not to mention India.

Lack of interest/knowledge about our own country and allowing these unqualified persons in congress to run our affairs for us is how we got here.

It has brought us to a time where too many want to hold out their hands for charity while those of us still willing to use them in a productive manner are becoming far outnumbered. If I know human nature at all then we will see this to be the straw that breaks the camels back.

One does not have to like one's government to love one's country.

Wow, repsonses don't fit the article
I have never seen so many people rambling on about liberal issues when the theme of the article was what is going on in America today. Irrefutable facts apparently mean nothing to liberals. Baci, your entry quoting some PhD is talking about conservatives defined by social behavior and has nothing to do with politics. I suspect that you can read but do not understand psychology, so you should stick to your area of expertise, getting off the message. I would agree that the dictionary definition of conservative (politically) has changed dramatically over the past thirty years, and now has taken on the liberal definition and visa versa. There are only conservatives in the Republican party today because they haven't yet realized that the Republican party is now the Democrat Party Light. Chuck is talking about the way the country is being sold piece by piece right out from under us and foreign interests now own enough American collateral to influence what we do. I believe we are headed for a Third World status rapidly. Go out and apply for one of those $7/hour jobs being offered now if you don't believe me. For all of the liberals reading this, when you glorify "democracy" remember the majority rules. When the majority is foreign interests, we take the back seat. The glory of the American "Republic" will soon be a historical footnote if we keep arguing over the fine points of evading the real issues instead of worrying over who will own this country.

Hal
You asked: "That is Chuckie's point. Will you pay more for your ball caps and tee shirts? Will you demand a decent wage for a days work?"

Yes, I do when I can find the items made in the U.S. We have better quality. Will you?

Also, the $75 per hour for UAW is due to benefits as well as wages. I've had to estimate wages for years on jobs and benefits are always added in. Their take home isn't as much but the bene's are.

I fault people like you because you've sold out America--that's 1,300 less jobs in America, etc. You've invested in and blessed Brazil big time, while abandoning your own country and countrymen. That's not a form of outsourcing?

Yes--but secure borders FIRST!
"If the government isn't going to help us by securing our borders ... we the people have got to take back the financial future of our country."

"Help us" by securing the borders? That is the governments JOB! If this roundabout way, at best a many-year process, is the only way to secure the borders--and, let' face it, as long as other nations are poorer than ours, there will always be incentives to come here, not matter what we buy--we are dead meat already anyway.

Spurring the economy
A big government spending bill will be counter-productive. You will have to tax small business to bail out those who are "too big to fail". The only way the economy in this country can be saved is by cutting business taxes and regulations. They are the ones who supply 70+ percent of the jobs in this country. If you tax them more they will shut down or leave making the problems for the economy worse. I think that buying American at any cost is nothing but a bailout by consumers of inefficiency. They need to compete, not be bailed out.

Actually,
I am not starting to think about you being hebrephrenic, you are. That is a definite

Hal said..."You tried that once and failed. You may leave but you will not take part of the country with you. You failures amuse me. How long ago were you saying that you were a patriotic American?"

It is well past time for another dose of your anti-hallucinatory drugs, Hal. I have never tried much less failed to lead Texas into secession although I would like to have a part in that wonderful honor someday. Actually, there are indeed many Texans who are now forming patriotic organizations with the goal of getting Texas out of the union and the pitiful likes of you cannot stop them.

Truth to tell, YOUR ignorance and stupidity do amuse me so.

The most patriotic thing an American can do is to try to save at least a part of true Americana for the future after you fools have descended into your well deserved poverty and inevitable dictatorship.

Hal says..."you are calling yourself a victim"

The entire nation has been largely destroyed by the pathological narcissist two-year-olds in adult bodies who have managed to take over nearly everything. This happened while the adults were busy earning a living while largely unaware of the dire changes going on. The MSM who should have kept them informed is part of the treasonous herd who helped perpetrate all the deceptive wickedness that has been going on to an ever increasing degree for many years.

I don't expect you to agree with any of this because Satan obviously has complete control of your pointy little drug besotted brain.

A legal immigrant says: I told you so!
53 years ago, I,my wife and 2 year old daughter set food in America as a legal immigrant, having followed every dot of the than enforced laws of immigrantion including a chest xray and at a time when the USA borders were still in existence, and also within the established laws becoming a USA Citizens and joining the Republican party, as staunch conservatives Christian Republicans.

Of course, sort of first agenda item was to soon learn the language of the land, because as as Christians we considered that to be most important in as much as we wanted to soon become a true part of America. Yes Sir, and myself especially getting busy learning the why and for what purpose this nation was brought into existence under God Almighty's inspiration.

However and due to our background having become sort of experts as to how evil Socialism/Communims is, it is, that I very soon begun to be concerned as to how Americans, born in America, are actually giving their country away for free, so to peak, as evermore Socialistic/Communistic programs were imposed upon the American citizens, and happier every day as junk from China via "Godly" Wal Mart became the top betrayer of America as millions upon millions of family business gone for ever and more and more becoming employees a la Soviet Union. American homes truly gone forever!

Yes, I soon begun sharing my concerns; but was mostly told to get back to where I came from. So, I say: America I told you so.

Buy Mexican
My first preference is to buy Made in USA,
but I really don't mind buying made in Mexico since I figure every dollar spent there helps keep some of them home.

It's cheaper than having them here on welfare.

American Immigrants
What symbols represent America? Our flag which is seen as a symbol of strength and aid throughout the world, our Eagle which is seen as a symbol of National Pride and majesty, an dour Statue of Liberty which speaks of freedom and liberty.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door "

I think of those words every time an isolationsit ostritch with their head in the sand (or elsewhere)screams about immigration.

We need MORE legal immigration and worker programs and MORE crackdowns on those who HIGHER illegal immigrants. If people could come here and work legally with benifits and it was not benificial and easy for employers to hire illegals we would Drastically reduce the illegal population.

America today is as great as it has ever been. It is still the best place in the world to live and who can fault ANYONE for wanting to live here?

I also put information like that in to educate others who might wonder if the comments he (and others like him) make might be right. I prefer that they know what the truth is without distortion. Actually, I think the take home wages of a UAW is about $45 an hour - but that is probably double what other workers make - or more. And that doesn't count the benefits. I don't think anyone anywhere gets more of those than the UAW does.

What annoys me is that the Big 3 gave them all that without argument since "no one will ever buy a foreign car." And now that they have gotten themselves into trouble they get a bailout without having to change things. So effectively, we are paying for our cars twice. We pay to buy one and then we pay them with bailout money because they can no longer compete.

Very few American company cars are sold overseas because they dumped all their junk there for years. I was told when I was in the military to never buy an American car if I went overseas. And they wonder why they can't compete in Europe or Asia!

No Protectionism Here
While we are parroting the benefits of a global economy, the warnings about "protectionism", and the qualities of our "trading partners" that is being fed to us by the MSM special interest groups, our trading buddies are taking care of themselves first and pumping campaign donations and lobbyist money into our legislative process in order to make sure that their agendas are served. In the meantime, our legislators have convinced themselves that they all business experts and overwhelmed themselves with business and regulations to the pint where they are so far over their heads that they don't know what to do except listen to special interest "experts". We are now owned.

HEY COLIN CODY - I AGREE
As a fellow Texan I agree with your comments. We have everything produced in Texas that we need to survive as an independent nation again.
We control NASA, therefore, we can lease the satellites to the rest of the country, we have enough gas and oil, the north can wait until Gore's global warming begins to heat their homes, if we need more laborers, we can open the southern borders wider, we have a very large agricultural and beef productions for a diet variety and don't forget all the seafood from the Gulf Coast. If we require more law enforcement we can call on the Texas Rangers and Chuck. We still have the lowest unemployment rate in the country, our economy has not tanked. Who needs the Federal government? They are all serving their own self interest, not the will of the people.

I am sick and tired of Big Government, whether produced by fellow Texans, Lyndon Johnson and the Bushes, neighboring Arkansas Clintons, or peanut grower Carter and now Chicago Thugs, Obama and gang. It is time to return to the days of Texas Alamo hero Davy Crockett who was twice a congressman from Tennessee and campaigned on the slogan "So say the People".

REMEMBER THE ALAMO! VIVA LA INDEPENDENCE!

P.S. (Because Tennessee gave us Davy Crockett we may allow them to join us in our Independence.)

Long On Complaints
This posting was long on complaints, and awful short of workable solutions are my thoughts. My attitude about complaints like Norris is that everything we do has its advantages and disadvantages, and no solution is perfect.

Are you a Patriot?
Are you sitting there exclaiming someone has to do something to save our sovereignty, or are you going to do something yourself? You can sit home, and complain, or you can scream to Congress and the Senate that you want our borders protected, our imports stopped, Made in America top priority. When we stop buying any product foreign made, then the stores will finally catch on. Toyota made in the USA, yes but with 90% of the parts imported that are assembled in that car. Look at the tires on those Toyota's are they American made, is that radio American made, is that Generator American made, or Assembled in the USA?
If we don't save America, it's our fault. Join me DonCordellforPresident.com and see what we must do, before it's too late.

We should let Alabama and SC join us as well. Alabama gave us Travis, and SC gave us Bonham. BTW, Tennessee, also, gave us Houston.

Hook'em Horns

So which way do you want it?
There seems to be two schools of conservative thought, the business/WSJ side which says illegal immigration is good for cheap labor, or the side which favors the rule of law and logic.
I am unabashedly liberal and think strict measures must be taken to stop illegal immigration and move existing illegal immigrants out of the country. The rule of law should mean something.
And this $75/hr talk about the UAW is madness. They are paying legacy costs out the whazoo (providing health care for hundreds of thousands) while providing wages for the middle class. If republicans cared about the middle class at all, they would have been this rigid with the Wall Street bailout. But I hope conservatives are content with never winning OH, PA, MI, IL, or IN ever again.

$11 billion a year on food assistance. Food stamps, free school breakfast and lunches and food stamps.
$2.5 billion a year on medical
$17 billion a year for education for children who are here illegally and can't speak a word of English. These are known as anchor babies.
$3 Million Dollars a day to incarcerate illegal aliens
$200 billion dollar a year in suppressed American wages.
The list goes on and on. Looks like California could cure it budget woes by busing out the illegally here just from Mexico.

Yeah, let's include Alabama and South Carolina in the Texas Independent movement. Might as well include Kentucky, my Texas ancestors moved to Texas after the Civil War. All those country boys and gals are straight shooters with or without a weapon. We may have to form the Mason-Dixie Line again. Most liberals live on the West Coast or in the New England states. At least we'd be away from all but a few liberals who are in Austin, Texas, who may be retrainable. Texas U. still has a solid football team as Ohio learned last night. Again, Texas has it all!
In addition, Texans don't have to pay state income tax as Californians do and still has a huge deficit. Does that mean our state government have better managers? Yep, we have it all down here. AND, we like to brag about it!

Sgt Relic
Man! We agree!

And what is exactly "foreign" my Dodge Ram 1500 was made in Mexico. Buying products based simply on where they are made is economically stupid.

Why
"Go to the websites Chuck recommends to find American made products..."

Again buying products because they are made in this or that country is foolish. Country of origin shouldn't play into the decision at all.

As far as I care it could be made on the otherside of Mars by Oompa-Loompas.

Hal and your pal
"...I don't like foreign made and avoid them when I can, particularly China, but there are a lot of items you simply can't get otherwise. "

"That is Chuckie's point. Will you pay more for your ball caps and tee shirts? Will you demand a decent wage for a days work?"

And what is that? In Fujian the min. monthy wage is about 650 Yuan (about 95 dollars a month). Who is to say 650 Yuan isn't a living wage? You? Should the entire world get at least 5.85 USD an hour, that being 40 Yuan an hour, 320 Yuan a day? More than 7000 Yuan a month?

The Clintons and Obama & Foreign Donors
Dear Dear Chuck - I just have to love you. You are truly a patriotic American and you're right. But look back to the 90s. How did the Clintons end up with multi millions in their bank accounts which were not revealed until recently where some of the money came from - Saudi Arabia and India according to news reports. And, Obama's unaccounted for foreign funny money on the internet was tracked to even foreign Islamic terrorist donors according to the news. The oil companies married China on or about 1995 and opened up the Super Highway and China's doing great and building up armies and weapons. Clinton gave billions to Russia and wanted to sell the Long Beach port to the Chinese communist according to the news. And, the news reported that Hillary is or was on the board of Walmart and Pelosi and her husband are tied to Star Kist Tuna according to the news and she jets around at taxpayers expense from home to Washington D.C. at a cost of about $6,000,000 per year. So what's all the fuss? They're all doing whatever they want at taxpayers expense so they can live in Camelot and compromise with foreign enemy countries for the next four years because U.S. politicians have entangled our money with theirs as well as Wall Street and AIG - Not to worry, though, they'll send you a new hard hat and a shovel so that you can help rebuild bridges and roads and even keep your SUV - well, maybe.

Agreeing with Chuck, but ....
Unfortunately, Chuck likely is doing pretty well financially, so he is unaware that most Americans can't afford a 50% increase in their clothing budget and a 75% increase in the price of a computer. We simply would just have to stop buying these items if the choice were American-made products only. This speaks volumns for the blindness of American workers -- they're refusal to negotiate wages that help their companies remain economically competitive with foreign manufacturers. Yes, buying American is the right thing to do, but in most cases, it will bankrupt the one who does it. Let US makers lower the price of their goods and then it becomes something US citizens can afford to do. Otherwise, it's individually a bad idea and what is a bad idea for large numbers of individuals tends to be a bad idea for the US economy.

Chuck Norris -
You need to run for Congress. We need more citizens just like you to go to DC and start kicking bu##. If we even had 100 members (out of the 535 loopy heads we have there now) that had your beliefs, it would make a huge difference! We can save this country - it's not too late.

Akagi - I'm not surprised that you don't
Get it.

Look, if the United States is going to continue to exist, we must have a manufacturing-based economy. Look at any other country in the world that has lost their manufacturing base, and -- well, mostly they're no longer with us or they're circling the drain. Look at Alaska which has never been allowed to develop a manufacturing base and remains dependent on federal handouts because our land and resources are not ours to control. That's America's future if we continue to buy from China. It's not about quality; it's about what's best for the country. We build up our manufacturers or we become beholden to China as Alaska is beholden to Congress. Alaska hasn't been given a choice; the US still has one -- rapidly becoming less available. I think it's going to take concessions on the supply side in terms of price (probably tied to wages) in order to make buying America viable, but I recognize that we're selling our country to China, et al, everytime we don't choose to buy American.

But, I'm not surprised that you don't get it, because you're not really interested in being an American. You want the privileges without any of the work and you honestly don't get that someday you may be living under Chinese government control because you (and the rest of us) sold our country to them. Then you'll complain (and maybe understand), but by then, it will be too late.

run for office
We need to do something soon or all will be lost.

Yankee Know-How ???

The Liberal stranglehold on Academia is also a stranglehold on innovation and intelligence. Brainwashing children into bed wetting pinko-commies is no asset to the U.S. economy.

The nominations of 'Open-border' candidates McCain and Obama are also testaments to the demise of American economic might and intelligence. And the rout of the daffy old patriot by a twisted amoral mental patient only accelerates the teetering of the Greatest Nation on Earth.

We may see only one set of "Footprints" these next 4 years. God will carry us through.

Our elected officials need to quit worrying about the glory they will get while serving their country and get back to the basics of honoring our God, protecting the values that established this great country by our founding fathers, protecting our Constitution and not changing it and think of its people first. An intelligent comment from the Doofass.

This Article Is Right on Target...
Special intersts/lobbyists now hold sway over our corrupt government. Money talks as politicians on both sides have literally sold America out to benefit wealthy conglomerates, countries, and themselves.

The average American citizen be damned.
We have no say anymore as we elect politicians whom, with few exceptions, work to benefit those special interests, even against the will of the people.

Whether it is illegal immigration and porous borders, Gay marriage, "free trade", seeling out the American worker and undermining the standard of living....

They don't seem to care. The consequences of their actions are now becoming apparent.
Granting visas for thousands from terrorist states without a clue as to their loyalties is just incomprehensible in the face of the growing Islamic threat.

Buy American
Support the Fair Tax Bill and vote against incumbents. That would get the economy back on track. You don't mention the damage that unions have done to our country. Take a look at education and you can see socialism and its fruit very clearly.

Solution?
Get OUR Government's jackbooted foot off the American worker's throat!

America has a 35% tax on business.
Foreign Governments have a VAT that they remove from exports and place on imports.
American products go on foreign shelves costing 35% more than their domestic products.
America does not place a VAT on imports and they go on American shelves costing 35% less than American products.

American factories have the lowest per unit labor cost in the world.
American workers are the most versatile and easiest to train.
Removing that 35% tax would allow America's workers to compete.
It would reduce prices in stores so people could afford to "Buy American".
It would create enough good industrial jobs that people could afford to pay for those homes
It would expand the IRS Tax Base to repay the lost 35% business tax.

Thank You Chuck
The biggest thing that drives me up the wall is the morons that buy toyota cars and think that they are buying american because it says made in America on the tag. All of the profits for this car goes directly to Japan to benifit the Japanese, not us, the few americans that are involved in assembling these cars are paid a low wage with few benefits most of the work on a toyota is done by robots, toyota is famous for its automation, they are given tax incentives also to build plants. So their investments in this country are very few, but their profits are very high, and then they are allowed to say made in America so morons on the East coast are allowed to feel good about buying this car thinking that they are helping America, They think that they are helping some poor americans keep their jobs but if they thought it through they would realize that if they bought a real American car and toyota had to move back to Japan this same worker could get a job at GM and actually help our economy.

Yes--
I agree with the posts on possible secession as long as the illegals and their enablers are deported on a permanent basis. Also Oracle 1 and Chuck have it right on the money.
It would be excellent if Chuck and many like minded conservative idividuals would be able to run the country.
Some posts have mentioned taking in other states who want to secede. I would also propose welcoming other hard core conservatives from other states who want to be free as Americans and not bound to foreign interests or corrupt sell-out politicians. Somewhere the heroes of the Alamo must be mad as he1l at the way things have turned out now. Where are the solid people like them today????

Guard our Borders?
This is a partial solution;

Land does not make a nation. People make a Nation.
We probably should change our Immigration Quotas to legally bring in a few more who wish to become Americans and join us in making a bigger and better America.

People create the wealth of a nation.
The more educated and skillful they are, the more wealth they create and the more affluent the nation becomes.

School vouchers that permit all parents to give their children equal education would eventually bring equality to Americans.

This presently provides a peon class for Democrats to exploit.

Invasion USA column
Chuck, I agree with you 110%. My only contention would be that if the general public is too lazy to research, and read positions of politicians (why else was Sen. Obama and a majority of Democrats elected? His type of 'change' was never truly studied or challenged) how, on Gods' green earth are you going to get people to read labels, compare components, and 'buy American?' The only reason I now read food labels is to restrict sugar, and salt intake. As a whole, our country needs to have a health emergency like todays' economic fiasco, and have it hit home, personally, for it to get any attention. We have become a society of instant gratification; "I want it, and I want it, NOW!" If a question takes more than a 3 yr. old attention span to answer, "pffft! I'm outta here!" THIS is what we're at war with. THIS is what needs to 'change.'

Roland ... Think...

I don't buy Detroit's cars because part of my payment would benefit the Democrat Party.

You do realize that 99% of Union political funds go to sleazy Democrat politicians... Who actually want to do away with Detroit?

I'm not buying a car from haters who prefer to see me in a morgue.

Ditto Chuck
In this simple article, in plain language, Chuck Norris has explained exactly what has happened and is happening to the sovereignty of the United States. I have been saying these things for years, and people just nod and say, "Oh well, gotta go to Walmart and get some of that cheap Chinese junk." This is the problem in America today. Complacency and ignorance. Most citizens do not have a clue what has truly happened and is happening in this country. They get their information and think themselves "up on the news and in the know" by watching the evening so-called news stations with their talking Kens and Barbies. The media industry in this country has been instrumental in destroying morality, ethics, professionalism, dignity, loyalty, patriotism, and decency generally with the garbage they choose to air as entertainment and as news.

The public school system has become a complete failure and does not prepare citizens who know how to think or have the requisite academic skills to achieve. Schools have become brainwashing and dumbing down institutions. A person would be better prepared academically if they stayed home, read books and studied and never entered public school. But, you see, that is where our socialist leaders have us. They demand with compulsory attendance laws that you send your child to one of these indoctrination centers called public schools. Obama wants to make it mandatory to send kids to government schools beginning as early as age 2. The socialists who have taken us over do not want to leave even one child left behind who is Un-Indoctrinated. Wake Up America, it is not when we will become a Socialist Country any longer. We have arrived. Better listen to Chuck and others who are encouraging us to take our country back. Start with your kids and communities. And, Buy American Made Products. We still have plenty of home grown products here. Support your mom and pop shops.

Two reasons for this mess
And the United States Government is both of them. From regulations on what we eat, wear, drive, live and yes breath, the government has placed such bureaucratic and financial impediments on American manufacturers, they simply cannot compete.

The only way American manufacturers can make a buck, is to ship raw materials half way around the world, pay for foreign labor, shipping and import fees, distribution and retail costs. In spite of this seemingly incredible added overhead, it still comes in less than doing it domestically.

Buy American has a nice patriotic ring but we cannot buy what we can't produce. The middle man in this case is the government and until we "cut out the middle man," we can kiss American made products goodbye.

My Dodge and Ford
Are in the driveway, Chuck. I have been buying American products for 40 years and still counting. It doesn't seem to have helped much thanks to the unions and the Feds. And now the US is fast becoming a turd (pun intended)world country because of them. Gee thanks for the 'change' but I can't spend it on anything here as foreign currency isn't accepted at most American businesses in the USA. I don't think that is the real solution since NAFTA appeared and all of the parts are made either in Canada or Mexico.

right on DanNv in NV
You said it all Dan. This is how Socialism works. Regulate, Legislate, Dominate and Tax, Tax, Tax. Anything that government says it will fix is guaranteed to be domolished.

An excellent post Chuck. Thanks so much for being a loyal, caring, fellow American who has his eyes wide open to this horrible problem which could become a catastrophe. I've posted a link to your post on my blog if you want to check it out:

Nice try Chuck
As a shopper how do I "BUY AMERICAN"?
I despise WAL-MART. I feel as though anything I purchase there was made by a Chinese political prisoner.

But what about Macy's, Sears, Penney's, N.Y.and Co.,Express,Victoria's Secret, etal? I feel lucky if I can snag a shirt made in Guatemala or Banladesh. At least it's NOT China.

This Christmas, shopping in Macy's, I purchased Christmas ornaments as gifts. Every ornament was stamped"MADE IN CHINA".

It's great to say BUY AMERICAN.How does one do that? I must say to you ....., my daughters do not wear DICKEY's bib overalls, nor do they ask Santa for wooden toys made in Vermont!

Where are those public servants
..... that are sworn to uphold the constitution and protect our interests?? THEY are the ones who have sold us out!! We are no longer the superpower we think we are... We are broke and in debt!! Why? because they have dumbed us down (IE public school fiasco) and sold us out. If we don't do something soon, all will be lost! The WW I AND the WW II veterans if still alive would curse our generation, what did they fight for? this? I don't think so. AND our grandchildren will curse us for leaving them the debt we're leaving them if there's a country left for them to inherit.... Shame on us all!

its over
At least for the forseeable future, the illegal immigrant issue is over. Texas, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado will be majority "Hispanic" populations soon -- and they want open borders (particularly the people who are children of illegal immigrants). Nobody will be able to compete in those states if there is any opposition to illegal immigrants (and the media would call it "racist" anyway).

I think it is ironic that Norris wrote this article since he is of the same background as most illegals (his legal first name is "Carlos" and he is partially of American Indian descent as are the vast numbers of Mexican illegals). Of course, I am pretty sure people might accuse him of being a "racist."

History does not matter. It took me about 20 postings to finally convince one "minority" poster on Town Hall that I had nothing to do with any bad treatment "whites" ever did to any group in this country. Ironically, Obama has a lot of English Heritage -- my heritage is overwhelmingly Irish. So, his ancestors arguably oppressed my ancestors for 800 years (Obama has one County Offaly Irish ancestor).

It is what you look like -- that is it. It has nothing to do with history or facts -- otherwise Obama would be blamed since he has white slaveholding ancestry and many "whites" including my wife and I have no such ancestry though we are "white."

The Jeremiah Wright rhetoric is acceptable -- facts are not.

thank President Bush
His pandoring to "Hispanics" (remember the 2000 convention with Ricky Martin) instead of pursuing legitimate policy (no secure borders when we have terrorism?). Bush also liked the pressure illegals gave to drive wages down. People linked to illegals will not vote in big numbers for Republicans. It is not impressive to get 40% of the Hispanic vote since you are losing the vote. California used to be a state where Republicans did well (remember Reagan and Nixon?). Now, they have no chance -- unless they agree on the agenda regarding immigration. Today, because of "diversity" immigration is particularly insidious since we are being trained by government policy not to assimilate -- and people are brainwashed into thinking "whites" did something to other ethnic groups -- so preferential treatment is necessary. My Irish heritage was ridiculed on Town Hall when I merely stated what the Irish went through -- and the poster still had the nerve to claim that becauase of what I look like I am responsible. How is that different than claiming that black people look like criminals? It is racist either way.

Try to Buy
Try and buy a decent shirt or pants made in America . First you have to really look hard to find them . A working man whom needs good work boots has a hard time finding them , and then a harder time affording them . I buy American when I can find these goods , but be honest , even the high-end stores try to pass off cheap made clothes and goods . America is still a superpower which has a gas tank creeping toward empty .

OhNo
Better check the inside door. My Dodge was made in Mexico. What about yours? Those "Japanese" Toyotas are more American than my Dodge.

And that Dodge will be the last "American" car I ever buy.

AW
"...someday you may be living under Chinese government control because you (and the rest of us) sold our country to them. Then you'll complain (and maybe understand), but by then, it will be too late."

Well, as someone that speaks Chinese I'll have a head start on all y'all then. I've seen this movie before--go back to the 1980s only this time the "yellow Peril" de jure was Japan who was about to do what it tried to do in the Pacific War only using Yen this time instead of Arisaka rifles. Remember the books "Rising Sun" and the US Congressmen taking sledge hammers to Japanese autos. Then the Japanese bubble economy burst and Japan went into a 10 year tailspin and now China is the Yellow Peril de jure--a economy the 1/6 the size of US, where many provinces (e.g. Qinghai, Yunan) are as poor as that other economic superpower Haiti, where its banks are bankrupt using western standards, the SOEs suck billions of Yuan out of the economy, and now the economy is hitting the skids--rising unemployment and rising unrest as workers are shown the door.

No. I don't worry about China's economic rise. It's military buildup vis-a-vis Taiwan's--that is something to actually worry about.

Mod Mark
GM isn't all that hot either. If I did though, it'd be a Ford. Actually I don't say all Japanese makers are equally as good. I'd avoid Mitsubishi. But Toyota, Nissan and Honda--no worries. But yes avoid Chrysler like the plague.

America could soon be lost forever
Amnesty John vows to strike again

Dinghy Harry Reid noted on Fox News Sunday that Amnesty John McCain committed to him after the election to assure passage of Comprehensive Immigration reform (read: scamnesty). CINO/RINO McCain made a Faustian deal years ago to sell out America for $ and hoped-for Hispanic votes in Az. Then when he ran for POTUS, the ObaMessiah beat him 2:1 among Hispanics. The reason is simple-- people vote their pocketbooks, and Hispanics, legal or ILLEGAL, remain (and will remain) much more likely to be ignorant and poor.

Some speak of the inevitable assimilation of the ILLEGAL invaders... there is increasing doubt that the massive influx of Hispanics could be assimilated in even a remotely desirable fashion, especially because that is not their goal, or that of their ethnocentric enablers like La Raza. Consider this study by a Federal Reserve economist about the persistent failure of Hispanic immigrants:

http://www.dallasfed.org/research/indepth/2004/id0401a.html

excerpt:

Conclusion
Worrying about immigrant assimilation boils down to worrying about Mexican immigration. Non-Hispanic immigrants consistently outperform natives, even after three generations.

Meanwhile, Mexican immigrants make up the largest and least educated immigrant group. While they make the biggest gains after coming to the United States, they still lag behind in education and wage outcomes after three generations.

If we do not stop ILLEGALS soon, it will be TOO LATE. Join the fight by rattling cages in Congress; you can reach them directly here at their official sites, or send targeted free e-mails via NumbersUSA... bookmark the sites, and get involved ASAP! what ILLEGAL aliens think
a recent post here about how ILLEGAL alien Mexicans view their ILLEGAL incursion into America, which is aided and abetted by open border NAU quislings Presidente Jorge Bush and Amnesty Juan McVain:

(slight editing below for clarity)
**********************************************
My Take--

I have many Hispanic friends, and I speak enough Spanish to understand practically all of what I hear. This is what I have found:

Mexicans truly believe that California and much of the U.S. western states were wrongly taken from Mexico. This is their land, their ancestors were here first, and some can trace their ancestry back to before their land was taken away. Hence, the Reconquista (re-taking, or re-conquering) agenda.

They truly believe that the U.S. liberals stupidly passed the laws that give them all the freebies: free health care, zero will to enforce immigration laws (cannot ask a Hispanic person for immigration status), and others. And all those laws are there for them. If not for them, then why were they passed?

The also know that their rate of having children is far greater than that of Anglos. They understand that it is only a matter of time before they become the majority of the voting populace because they are willing to have children, and are especially prolific.

"They come because they're poor"?

People rob liquor stores "because they're poor".

People commit embezzlement "because they're poor".

People mug and kill other people "because they're poor".

That's the stupidest excuse I've ever heard for giving people a pass on obeying the law, and granting them amnesty.

The world is chock-full of people who are poor. I suppose we should just throw open the border and let 'em all in, every one who can somehow drag their "poor" bones across the line.

Lunacy.

Hispanic ethnocentricity
As Real As It Gets

Someone wrote that La Raza and the Reconquista movement is as real as "any of the nutcake militia groups". But that analogy really doesn't hold up, and that is the precise reason why Middle Americans are alarmed.

As Andy Rooney might ask: Does the Posse Commitatis have a chapter in nearly every university across the country like La Raza has?

Is the La Raza ethos of fascist racism (lets face it, a motto that says "For the race everything, outside the race, nothing" is right up there with Nazi ideology, and has creepy echoes of Mussolini's declaration of "For the State, Everything; outside the State, nothing") really just a "fringe" belief in the Latin Community?

Or is it, like Black Liberation Theology, something that has much wider purchase in the hearts and minds of the relevant minority community? Is it much, MUCH, more prevalent than we had previously thought???

The millions marching in pro-amnesty rallies, and their well documented attitude that the Southwest "belongs" to them, seems to suggest that this is not just a fringe group, or fringe belief, and that is the problem.

The problem with the Reconquista Movement is that it is emblematic of the Mexican attitude of coming here to colonize, not to assimilate. It is that attitude (and ILLEGALITY) that sets the Mexicans apart from every prior wave of immigrants, and why they must be viewed differently, and dealt with differently.

America is different today

Today's immigrants (legal and ILLEGAL) are similar to those of a century ago, but they are coming to a very different America, one where changes in the economy, society, and government create fundamentally different incentives for newcomers. In other words, the America that some of our grandparents came to no longer exists. This simple fact must become the starting point for the explosive debate about immigration policy.

Although mass immigration once served our national interests, in today's America it weakens our common national identity, limits opportunities for upward mobility, threatens our security and sovereignty, strains resources for social programs, and disrupts middle-class norms of behavior. ILLEGALS particularly pervade pernicious social pathologies like a cancer.

So as the politicians argue about border fences and amnesty, they are missing the bigger picture: the harmful impact of large-scale settlement of all kinds of immigrants, whether legal or illegal, skilled or unskilled, temporary or permanent, European or Latin or Asian or African. Modern America has simply outgrown wholesale immigration, and we must limit it before it cripples us, and carefully monitor the changes it forces.

All non-Hispanic immigrants actually do better by the 3rd generation than existing Americans, but Hispanics lag indefinitely and materially-- hence the core problem with ILLEGAL immigration.

invassion
I'm sorry Mr. Norris you feel that way. Luckily for you, native Americans did not feel the same way you feel when the fathers of the fathers of the father of your parent were invading this country.
And when you mention illegal aliens I'm pretty sure you don't mean caucasians coming from other parts of the world therefor let me tell you illegal aliens don't feel they're coming to a foreign country since they are descendants of those who originally inhabited these lands. Now, who is then the Alien?
If you want to blame someone Why don't you blame corporate executives who were buying raw materials from these countries that you despise, for pennies the tonnage and then they did not share the profits with the labor man who put the parts together to build these products that went back to the countries were the raw material were extracted for pennies only that now they had to pay dollars for the pennies.
Look at what they're doing right now. they're bailing out executives so they can collect their rip-offs and resign, and then close their companies and lay off thousands of people. Who are being bailed out? Mr. Bush friends. If you are not part their circle, you get $0.000.

So, Mr. Norris do your homework before you speak. God bless you

Bill Clinton's free trade agreement.

We do know that Bill Clinton negociated the Free Trade agreement with China.

We know the United States is 11 trillion in debt.

We also know China has a two Trillion dollar surplus.

Thank you Bill Clinton

Love you Chuck but
There are no American made products left. I suggest we all stop spending for anything but lfe sustaining products, oops, I forgot, none of us can spend due to a out of control liberal taxing like crazy and spending as if there is no tomorrow govt. We are doomed, our only joy will be to watch the ignorant liberals begin to realize that what they have sown is slowly being reaped by them.

Mario, I suggest you bone up on your history. None of the illegals have claim to this land.

Clinton
"We do know that Bill Clinton negociated the Free Trade agreement with China."

There was NO free trade agreement with China during Clinton's tenure. What there was was the replacement of China's MFN which required Congress to extend it each year and brought about the annual Kabuki theatre China bashing in the Senate and then MFN would be extended anyway. It was a farce. If MFN was not going to be withdrawn in 1990 (the first time it was up for renewal since Tiananmen) it never was going to be. So, what Clinton did (with strong support from the GOP--it passed the GOP controlled Senate 83-15 and the GOP controlled House 237-197) was replace the MFN farce with NPTR (Normal Permanent Trade Relations).

This was supported by former President Bush, most in the GOP (the little opposition there was came from Democrats), the Chamber of Commerce, the majority of the Fortune 500, and the Wall Street Journal--hardly bastions of liberalism. You can't blame (or credit) NPTR on Clinton.

The Japanese simply avoided the pitfalls
of building in a union town like Detroit. They pay their workers WELL. Most techs where I am get great bennies but around $20/hr or $41.6k where the Toyota and Honda employees in the South may get $25/hr plus better benefits than they would at most large southern employers.

THEY are not complaining. They used to make maybe $13/hr with no or little medical coverage unless THEY paid into a plan. THEY are happy as pigs in shyte.

The unions in Detroit have built a $6MILLION golf course for God's sake!! They can WASTE that money but have the onions to expect us to pay an additional 20% on top of the real world price of American cars so they can pay nonproductive retirees $22-25/hr PLUS cushy medical and dental benefits? They can bite me!

Then to ice the cake they agree to a moronic bailout scam with so many provisions that in fact Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi will be running the auto industry. Two idiots who probably can't change a tire between them!

To get this largesse they have to agree to tighter CAFE standards which will kill more people in flimsy cars and to build more rolling turds like the Volt which NOBODY wants.

BURN the UAW contract NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't care about buying American
if it means supporting left-wing companies. The goal should be to support conservative, free-market establishments regardless of nationality. I'd love to give American cars another chance, but supporting the UAW is not helping America or the American dream.

With all due respect to Mr. Norris, he should focus on encouraging free-market reforms that make domestic manufacturing once-again profitable, rather than anachronistic protectionism. Such reforms would include lower corporate taxes, checks and balances against the unions, curtailing the minimum wage, among other measures. Obviously, none of this is on the horizon, but Conservatives need to be on the same page regarding this issue.

Illegal immigration
We the taxpayers pay billions for millions of illegal aliens. For food stamps, housing subsidies, free lunch and breakfast at school for their 10 kids, free education, health care etc. What galls me is I see every day illegals paying with rolls of $100 bills in their pockets. Who walks around LA with gold teeth and rolls of $100's speaking poor Spanish and very little English?! Guess!! People who sell drugs or buy and sell cars, motorcycles, pay no taxes, That's who. If I go to France to live and work, I have to ask permission first. Same in Germany, Sweden, etc. But here in the good ol' USA, there are rules for me but not for illegals. If I break the law, the authorities know my name , where I live and work, etc. They will come and get me. But here in Sanctuary City Los Angeles, illegals can live their entire lives changing names daily, committing crimes, no one knows their real name, no one has their fingerprints. The Govt has MINE because I served in the USMC and City of LA employment for 35 yrs. If you are not mad, you're not paying attention! God help us all. Craig Wilson Candidate for city council Los Angeles dist 11. vote mar 3

Join the fight to save America!
Presidente Jorge has put out a, "Bienvenido, amigos" sign down on the border, and the Obamessiah cannot wait to make them voters. It is CRITICAL that we force the political will against the powerful Conspiracy Of Evil---> 70%+ of Americans want enforcement and attritive repatriation.

Many pols have been bought and paid for by the miscreant employer/Chamber lobbies who bray the disingenuous drivel about "America must have that cheap labor to do those jobs Americans won't do."

HOGWASH! Americans simply expect a living wage to do those jobs. When the govt. makes token show raids on meat plants, etc., Americans return to reclaim those jobs immediately. ILLEGAL alien employers are NOT saving YOU money-- your hotel room or head of lettuce is NO cheaper to YOU... the lawbreaking employers are simply pocketing more profit at great citizen expense.

The above forces of evil are aided and abetted by the PC multicultural cabal, including the remote "elite" MSM, and the scandal-ridden Catholic Church trying to fill those vacant pews with better paying ILLEGALS.

Power to the People
People on here claim that there is not much the American consumer can do about so many stores selling foreign made products, and the uneven trade balance that we have with other countries. They are wrong. There is something we as proud Americans can do.There are many seats coming up for re-election soon in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Take a good look at all of the incumbents records that have voted in favor of NAFTA,CAFTA, and any other unfair trade agreements, that favor foreign foreign businesses over the U.S. businesses. Make a note of all those incumbents that voted in favor of these agreements and when it comes time to re-elect them, vote every one of them out of office. All of them at the same time will send a strong message to our elected officials that they work for us, and if they refuse to do work that will benefit the American people, the American companies, and the workers who produce American goods. Then replace all of the politicians and tell them If you can't do your job for the American people then you can't get paid by the American people.
