3 Surprises Awaiting Obama in Iraq

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Sen. John McCain played advanced political chess back and forth this past week with Sen. Barack Obama over the war in Iraq. Because the Democratic presidential hopeful has been to Iraq only once (more than two years ago), McCain said Obama has a "profound misunderstanding" about the progress made in Iraq.

The fact is John McCain is absolutely right. Barack doesn't have a clue what really is going on in Iraq. And Obama will eat some humble military pie if he goes there. The way I see it, he's going to face at least three major surprises:

-- Surprise No. 1: The surge really did work.

I have been to Iraq twice to visit the troops since Obama's single visit. During my two trips (2006 and 2007) to Iraq, I visited 28 bases and shook hands with nearly 40,000 troops. I cannot express the profound pride I feel for our troops. I will remember those experiences for the rest of my life.

One thing that was absolutely apparent in my second visit to Iraq was how well the surge was working. Despite the fact that not one major media outlet at the time reported the positive impact of the surge, I had seen it with my own eyes and could compare the progress between my two visits in more than two dozen locations across the country (many of which were hotbeds of gunfire the year before).

Fewer U.S. troops died in Iraq last month than during almost any other month since the war began five years ago.

A few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to visit Iraq for a third time. I was invited again by Robert Magnus, a four-star general, whose retirement this July completes a truly stellar career in military service from Vietnam to the Iraq war. Unfortunately, I was under publishing deadlines to complete my upcoming (fall release) book, "Black Belt Patriotism," so I could not join him.

-- Surprise No. 2: War is not reflected accurately in the news.

So where does Obama get his facts about the war? How is it that he can conclude so confidently that the Iraq war is futile and a result of failed strategy and policies? If he hasn't been to Iraq since the surge even started, how can he truly know anything about the battlefields?

The truth is that Obama gets his knowledge about the war from the same places most of us do: major media, White House press reports, so-called military experts (who are often no longer on the battlefields), our favorite news blogs and Web sites, etc. But are we truly getting all the facts about the war from those sources? Most of them?

Imagine what our military officers and few political leaders who really understand the ins and outs of the war think when those "on the outside" pontificate about their knowledge of the war. Have you ever had someone try to tell you what it's like to be in your shoes and be dead wrong? Do we expect that our military leaders are honestly going to tell media representatives all the truths about the war so that CNN can splash them around the globe for all the terrorists to hear? If our military leaders actually found WMDs or knew where Osama bin Laden is hidden, are we really so slow to figure out why they could not and would not tell the public? If it's true that we can't judge a book by its cover, do we think we can judge a war by its news coverage? Does Obama?

-- Surprise No. 3: All of our service members are absolutely amazing heroes.

Considering how Obama has spoken negatively about the war, for which our troops and their families sacrifice daily, one might think he would experience a cold military reception in Iraq. But those poised souls are much bigger than that. If Obama goes to Iraq, they will offer him the honor and respect he never could give them. The troops deserve admiration from the possible commander in chief. But how can he march them forward when he rejects their cause, has not sat down with their officers and generals, and wants to negotiate with Muslim terrorists?

Whatever the reasons we went in, we're there now. We can fight the constitutional correctness until the cows come home, but our troops are there. And they are fighting for the freedom and democracy of more than 12 million Iraqis, who bravely went to the polls a few years ago to establish a new constitution and government. I am grateful for our troops' service, humbled by their courage, and amazed by their sacrifice. And I believe even Obama will be surprised by their fortitude if he just opens his eyes.

Obama and Iraq
The simple fact is that this guy does not want to see what has happened in Iraq because it does not fit his liberal world view, one he shares with the majority of his fellows in Congress.

Even if he goes there, Obama will not see what is there lest he lose his ultra-liberal base.

He needs two bricks in his back pocket to get him heavy enough for the job of Chief Executive. Remember when our current President lacked "gravitas?"

This guy, in truth, lacks gravitas, and I fear he is just a tool for the heavies in Congress and liberal groups.

Imperialism is the goal
The point of the surge was more than to reduce hostilities. The country's poliitcs is a shambles-- a more peaceful atmosphere was supposed to lead to reconciliation. It hasn't.

What Bush and McCain have wanted all along is a pacified (but beneath the surface unstable) Iraq that will have to rely on interminable U.S. military presence whether the Iraqis want it or not. McCain admitted it was for the oil. It's an ugly, ugly spectacle of raw imperialism.

Defeat, Failure, & War
Obama is so heavily invested in our defeat that to change now would be to admit that he was wrong, thereby resulting in a deadly blow to his aspirations of becoming president. His followers would abandon him. His loss in the race would be guaranteed, and so he will not change his tune. All he can do is try to convince us that things are always getting worse. Truth to him is irrelevant. His agenda is what matters to him, and his agenda is winning the presidency, not military conflicts.

On another point, I did some math a couple days ago and came up with something that I thought was interesting—very sad, but interesting. The murder rate for 2007 for New Orleans was 71 per 100,000 people. Consider this: Iraq's 2007 population was 27,500,000. If Iraq had the same murder rate as New Orleans, they would have had 19,525 murders there for last year alone. I am not sure of the significance of this, but it is interesting how some people calculate "failure". By the way, the National Guard is still patrolling some areas in New Orleans and the city wants them to stay longer. And some want us to believer that Iraq is futile? Strange.

We all know that one unnecessary death in war is one too many, but our military has accomplished some astounding results in the midst of this war. They truly deserve our utmost respect, and not our abandonment of them as goals are being met. Now is not the time to cut & run and embolden those sworn to achieve our destruction. War will not end the day we leave Iraq, and in fact that is when things will be the most precarious.

Time is running out for claiming defeat, so expect the goal posts to be moved by Obama & Co., the rules to be changed, and the media to play along. For them, winning the election is what it is all about, and for them anything is fair in that particular war…even if it kills us.

The surge IS working!
If Obama gets his news from the MSM he'll never know the truth, that is unless he does visit Iraq.

That is why I get my ME news from the Military sites. There are a lot of wonderful stories about Iraq and Afganistan to be found. Beautiful stories of success, freedom and the Brave Heros that are making it all possible.

Good article Chuck Norris. That's why we love you. Well that and Walker, Texas Ranger :-)

5 stars

McCain is right
You must be another one of the ignorant Liberal elites,McCain wants our military to have pride in their job,he remembers being a POW and the disgrace our troops felt by having to leave the job unfinished.
McCain is our best choice for President.

Bryon Harrelson

Republican Joe Scarborough on
Senator John McCain: "He seems to be running on a platform of more war and less jobs."

Good for Chuck
I should, nevertheless, thank citizen Norris for his visits to Iraq to boost morale of the troops. Calling them all heroes may not be what they want, but I'm sure they get the message.

Obama
doesn't have the brain capacity to understand any world events.

He can talk as long as his trainers stay with him, but has no conception of the words he utters.

Chuck vs. Obama and the Media
-Chuck Norris once taught a class called "@ss Kicking 101". There were no survivors.

Chuck's column is an inspiration to all in the military... He points out an important fact that Obama can not speak for the servicemember or the military action when he has not been in country to see for himself. How many times has Obama been to Afghanstan? Where is his support for the military and its servicemembers? What conclusions can the voter draw from his short voting record?

Steve in Charlotte - Wrong
Leaving Vietnam gave us the defeat of the Soviet Union without firing a shot. The Soviets "stayed the course in Afghanistan". I get so tired of your revisionism. The3 fact is Bush's invasion of Iraq was a major blunder costing the US a fortune in treasure and credability. The mere fact that Osama roams free and we are still mired in Iraq shows that clearly. Iraq staunchly in Iran's corner is not in our interest. Where is the Iraqi PM, Malaki later this week?

Oh a last comment the Soviets in Afghanistan was the best thing that ever happened...I hope the US in Iraq...

Pontificating Nabobbery
*Have you ever had someone try to tell you what it's like to be in your shoes and be dead wrong?*

Yep, every day when sanctimonious people tell me that it is axiomatic that I am a failure and my two fatherless sons are either gangsters or gay ... and no amount of evidence will convince them that their view is 180 degrees wrong.

It is amazing to me that anybody would cling in the face of all the evidence presented, to a position that cannot be wrong because all the people they know, who are just like them, agree that it is right!

Anatole France said it best. *If fifty million people believe a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing.*

GOD BLESS our troops...and CHUCK!
Conservative Hollywood lives in this man!

THANK YOU for being willing to tell the truth about our troops, Iraq, and most of all for being willing to encourage them both by visiting 28 locations over there!

Chuck is THE MAN!

Hey Doodle! You hit the nail on the head
"The simple fact is that this guy does not want to see what has happened in Iraq because it does not fit his liberal world view,"

That is in essence what it wrong with liberalism and pacifism to begin with. It is commonly called being on a "head trip"...These people tend to get ideas in their heads and latch on to what they "choose to believe" based upon their underlying feelings, fears, insecurities and then seek out others who are of "like mind"...Then then try to act on those feelings (with good or honorable intentions/motives) mindless of the fact that their heads do not line up with REALITY...Case in point? The liberal mantra about welfare. Often born of a good idea but grossly mis-directed (as is the national health care scam) by using other peoples money and doing for others what they could and should be doing for themselves. The outcome is ALWAYS a crippling effect often over generations. It is social co-dependency. And does nothing to actually address the underlying CAUSE of conditions rather smooths over (pacifism or pacifier/security blanket) the effect of their own failed policies. Then they attempt to filibuster or obstruct any and all attempts to put the onus where it actually belongs and allow what Ben Franklin stated is an actual solution "necessity is the mother of invention"..meaning out of need these individuals would learn to do for themselves...take away that impetus by doing for them and many will not ever try to learn..but learn to rely on the purveyers of the welfare and handout system. Try telling a "well intentioned" individual that what they do as a result of their good intentions is wrong. They won't listen...Their minds and convictions are already made up. CLOSED MINDED...but well intentioned = chaos.

Chuck on UNCONSTITUTIONAL protocol...
Remember Chuck also NOT afraid to say the Iraqi war didn't follow consitutional protocol...

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/ChuckNorris/2008/05/13/h as_the_us_run_amuck_constitutionally

I appreciate his balance...support the troops...but say government has run amuck.

Chuck's comments
If you read Obama's resume for a job would you hire him??? If you read Obama's resume for the job of President of the United States would you elect him? We have survived many hardships and terrible wars in forming this greatest of all countries, but will be brought down by ignorance.

Chuck's upcoming book?
Read a scholarly review of Chuck's upcoming (Fall) book, "Black Belt Patriotism: How to Reawaken America." It said it was actually "fantastic and surprising"! Says it covers "8 major problems in America and solutions (prescriptions) in the form of copious commentary and solid rationale from Founding Fathers, Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Right, etc." Also, lauds Norris for giving "more practical solutions to societal ills than I've read from O'Reilly, Rush, Hannity, and Newt combined....Endnotes alone worth price of book." Finishes with words, Chuck "proves himself more of a constitutional statesman than Ron Paul."

WHO is this guy?? And WHY wasn't Norris been on political scene ages ago???

Anyone know more background to this book from Regnery? http://www.regnery.com/index.html

Carol--thanks. Great version and read
As you said, Chuck's version of this same article at World Net Daily does have intriguing additions http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=65915

‘Historic blunder’
Former US commander in Iraq calls invasion ‘historic blunder’

WAPO: Getting lost in the media furor over McClellan’s memoir is the new autobiography of retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez, the onetime commander of U.S. troops in Iraq, who is scathing in his assessment that the Bush administration “led America into a strategic blunder of historic proportions.”

Among the anecdotes in “Wiser in Battle: A Soldier’s Story” is an arresting portrait of Bush after four contractors were killed in Fallujah in 2004, triggering a fierce U.S. response that was reportedly egged on by the president.

During a videoconference with his national security team and generals, Sanchez writes, Bush launched into what he described as a “confused” pep talk:

“Kick xxx!” he quotes the president as saying. “If somebody tries to stop the march to democracy, we will seek them out and kill them! We must be tougher than hell! This Vietnam stuff, this is not even close. It is a mind-set. We can’t send that message. It’s an excuse to prepare us for withdrawal.”

“There is a series of moments and this is one of them. Our will is being tested, but we are resolute. We have a better way. Stay strong! Stay the course! Kill them! Be confident! Prevail! We are going to wipe them out! We are not blinking!”

Obama doesn't go to Iraq
because once he see's the surge is working, he won't be able to argue for a surrender.
This guy would be an unmitigated disaster as POTUS. If he gets in and he gets a dem congress, this country as we know it is gone folks. They'll stack the SC with loonys and destroy the country as Alexander Tyler predicted over 200 years ago.
This guy is a stealth candidate for marxists.

Not a Chuck fan ... but
Our family has always been democrats. I am a black female, my husband from Sicily. We have 4 sons in the military, careerists. We disagree with much in how the war is being fought; we have never liked Bush/Cheney.

I protested this war before it began. I voted Gore in 2000 only b/c I thought GWB a phony wet brain and would take us to war, which he did. I held my nose and voted Kerry in 2004. But, in the past few years, reading and networking with fellow liberals/leftists I have come to view 90% of American "liberals" as indeed loony.

The hypocrisy and perversity, the vindictiveness and b.s. I see daily on liberal/left sites has convinced me to no longer support them.

For the first time, this November, I will be voting Republican.

A few things never
never mentioned about Iraq:

last year it had a GNP of 6%; US was under 4%

oil production is now up to levels higher than before the 2003 start of the war

all 18 provinces (governates) are considered essentially secure, including now the Sadr City suburb of Baghdad, with only one major city left as insurgent/al Qaida refuge--and a new offensive is occurring there now

even the Washington Post on Saturday admitted the *surge* has worked and people that don't recognize it are uninformed and in denial.

Obama in Iraq
I hope he doesn't go to some market, supported by a tun of troops like McCain and buy a rug. The people who sold the rug were killed the next day and the area is now under al Sadr's control. And, if the surge worked, why would leaving Iraq be "surrender"? Iraq isn't like South Korea, they don't want us there, and they sure don't want us calling the shots.

The Trolls abound...
There must be some kind of "cattle call" that goes out whenever an article on Iraq successes is published on Townhall.

All the usual suspects seem to be chiming in with their defeatist messages and extreme BDS.

Will, Boutte, King Liberal, Hal Donahue and MDoggg, so far.

No doubt, they'll be joined by Left Angle and Robert shortly (as soon as Robert creates ANOTHER illegal TH account).

The Surge
A better understanding of the situation in Iraq can be found here..

"Now, U.S. strategy is violating this principle by fostering the retribalization of Iraq all over again. In other countries in the region, such as Yemen, the result of allowing tribes to contest state authority is clear: a dysfunctional country prone to bouts of serious internecine violence. Such violence can also cross borders, especially if neighboring states are willing to use the tribes as their own agents. Pakistan provides a particularly ominous example of this dysfunctionality: its failure to absorb its Pashtun population has threatened the viability of the Pakistani state. The continued nurturing of tribalism in Iraq, in a way that sustains tribes in opposition to the central government rather than folding them into it, will bring about an Iraqi state that suffers from the same instability and violence as Yemen and Pakistan."

Why aren't you running Chuck?
We all know or should know what a fraud Obama is. But if he goes over, he will play to whatever crowd he is put in front of, so he will praise them left and right. Why don't you run Chuck? Run for Governor or the Senate now and we'll back you in four years as a REAL Republican candidate for President! Romney and Huck split the real conservative vote this time and gave it to the pseudo-liberal McCain.

Steve in Charlotte
Pol Pots Killing Fields

Not so.

Chuck
I "Hope" Mr.Obama surprises the republican party by not going to Iraq. Why go?He won't see the beautiful buildings, that at one time made up Baghdad. He won't see the more than 600,000 women and children, that have lost their lives in an illegal invasion. He won't see the restoration of America's greatness. All of you "Warmongers" have been trying to win Vietnam in every subsequent battle."US" lost, learn to live with it and MOVE ON.Where is the Honor, when a country of 300 million defeats a country of 30 million?Oh,I almost forgot the 600,000 that are no longer alive.New population;29,400,000.Chuck you are a disappointment...BULLY!

MDogggggggy.....who's the schmuck?
"....surge worked? Yeah - it made Iran the power broker in the middle east."

Dude, read your history...Dem. Carter and his human rights quests via Shah relations brought rise to Komeini and ultimately regime of Ahmadinejad. Democrats made Iran power in Middle East!

Iraq war "calling out" Iran as they are now, rather than what they would be in a few years with nuclear abilities. Do you think our military presence smack in between Iraq and Syria is coincidental? History of Iran and its escalation is one of the primary reasons for war (WMD's, Hussein's bio warfare, etc. all smokescreen to squeeze us into location).

If you think Iran a power broker now, imagine what it and Ahmadinejad would have done with nuclear capabilities in a few years? Like it or not, Bush was right on what he said to O'Reily a few years back...

"Here's the stakes, as far as I'm concerned. It is conceivable that within decades, the Middle East will be a place where moderate governments have been toppled, extremists and radicals will have gained control of oil resources and then will use to create a blackmail situation against the West and Iran will have a nuclear weapon, to complicate the mix. And 20 or 30 years from now if that is the case, people will say what happened to them? How come you couldn't see the threat as a generation of Americans are dealing with something much more violent than we are seeing today?"

King Liberal
Well - at least you are no longer so cocksure about an Obama victory - assuming he gets the nod at your convention.

As to "defending" our points - one learns from experience - and it is pointless to keep repeating arguments to those who are afflicted with the mental disorder of liberalism.

Evie---impressed!
Impressed by your openness and willingness to change. I pray we're all as such.

P.S. And Afghanistan....
Anyone who can't see we've pinched in Iran on both sides by Afghanistan and Iraqi wars is blind as a bat! You want a REASON FOR THE WAR, look there. And it's the one thing NOT being said by military or politicians. THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE! I only wish I could say more.

The Geo. Sorass Trolls
Mdoggg, halD, daft, King Liberal, will, butt, and of course, killer....

Curious if you all get paid per post, and if you get a little extra if the posts are particularly stupid and/or foul and low class?

It's obvious that you're not getting paid for substance!

Why so many leftist?
Why do so many liberal hang out and make idiotic comments on the few conservative or unbiased (Foxnews) websites when they have total control of the MSM. Why can't The Right have a place to have educated discussions without having to hear idiotic socialist propoganda? Thanks Chuck, for giving us your realistic views of the war and Obama's total incompetance.

Evie
I read your post and was duly impressed by your level of intelligence. We have individuals in Georgia, that share your level of prowess.I know, that the Democrats are trying to unload those who are mentally deficient. But, I did not realize, that they had reached the "MORONS" so quickly!I would "HOPE", that your exit to the republican party can serve as evidence, that mental health is an issue in this election!!!

Posterity is the issue! Bush is right!
Iraq war "calling out" Iran as they are now, rather than what they would be in a few years with nuclear abilities. Do you think our military presence smack in between Iraq and Syria is coincidental? Actually,
Khomeni was in EXILE in France, and Carter's *see no evil* foreign policy brought us the theocracy of Iran, now dedicated to annihilating Israel and then the Anglo-Saxons (that includes us), before Ahmadinejad re-establishes the great caliphate of the 13th C., where radical Islam is mired today.

Carter also brought us the USSR invasion of Afghanistan, which *surprised* and *shocked* him, altho' we had satellites that could take pictures resolved to a meter, and I would think 400,000 USSR troops massed on the Afghani border would have been viewable.

Carter also brought us an entire term in recession (minus GNP), double digit inflation, double digit interest (the invention of the 18% credit card), and a stock market that made the experts wonder if it would ever break 1000.

Considering just the taxes Obama wants: raise capital gains, pay the UN for worldwide poverty, let the Bush tax cuts elapse ($2400 for a family of 4 at $60,000), and a $trillion in new program spending, it would take the ghost of Ronald Reagan to save the nation when Obama was thrown out of the White House by his own party, which is what happened to Carter.

Carol Chase
If your right, then it's just one more reason to get rid of the neocons as fast as we can. Iran had a much more moderate president when we were attacked on 9/11 and helped us get AQ and set up the Afghan government. They made offers to stop all help to Hezbollah even, if we would talk with them. The neocon way only has made Iran dig down deeper into its defensive mode and their fundamentalism. Every-time Cheyne blathers on about attacking Iran, the coffers of Ahmadinejad skyrocket with millions of dollars. The price of oil goes up every time wall-street gets ear of war mongering, and this translates into millions of badly needed money for an unpopular Ahmadinijad.

LIBS! Chuck's article???
Isn't it amazing how quickly liberals can get off the main issue?! Chuck's article is right on and irrefutable! He's been over 28 locations in Iraq, met with over 40,000 troops, 100's of military officers (including the multiple-star generals), Iraqi civilians, Iraqi officers and troops, Iraqi government officials, etc., and was there in 2006 and 2007 for over a month. When he says the surge worked--he speaks of first hand evidence and experience--NOT the jibberish you do from liberal blogs and propaganda. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS who are winning the war and win the war. People like them give you your ability to be pacificists and isolationists! STICK TO THE ISSUE! Chuck's article is right on! Tell me one problem with it?? OBAMA IS SCUM and will lead us to smooze with terrorist and build "one global community," through which they will rape us blind. Congrats! You are fighting for the demise of the U.S.A.

TAFT...excellent defense of Iran?!
"Iran had a much more moderate president....made offers to stop Hezbollah..." etc. SO GLAD you believe the propaganda from Iran but not the U.S.! How do you know all this? Because you believe what you've been told from YOUR selective news sites that agrees with your globalist views and denigrating view of the U.S. That's EXACTLY what Chuck is talking about under the section that news is only presenting propaganda. You've chosen to believe Iran! CONGRATS! You've sold out our Founders! IDIOT!

RickyLS
Do you think Admiral Fallon sold out too? Sorry, but all the facts I gave are true. The Jerusalem Post had a good story on Iran a while back..

BARACK AND IRAQ
I have always been a Chuck Norris fan, and also respected him as a "gentleman." I have not been to Iraq; however, I agree with Mr. Norris that Obama doesn't have a clue about what is actually going on in Iraq. Furthermore, I'm not sure he has a clue about what is going on in our own government. While many are blinded by his eloquent speeches and his promises of change, I question what kind of change he is speaking of. I have no doubt that there will be some major changes if Obama makes it to the White House. Does he realize that as President of our United States (that are far from united as I write this), his first duty is that of Commander in Chief. How does he propose to
"change" the war on terror? This is my concern regarding Obama. I'm not sure he isn't part of the "problem" - not the "solution," and the changes he plans to make (which he has not defined as yet) may include providing information to the terrorists in an effort to destroy America. Something in my gut tells me not to trust this man. And I see his wife as only a detriment to this country (that she is finally proud to be a part of "for the first time in her adult life"). I am not a racist; I don't judge people by color. But again, my gut tells me that this man is not truly an American - no matter how many papers and cards he carries, or that he was born in Hawaii; I still doubt that he is truly "American" at heart. There is no way I could possibly vote for this man for ANY office. I see in him a man who would control the country with "fear." And if he does win the election, AMERICA WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!!!!

watching you.

Robert
Good Morning, nice to see your posts.

No Thanks Whatsoever
Liberals such as King Liberal, Taft, Boutte, MDoggg have not a speck of admiration for the fighting men and woman of the US Military. The sacrifices the brave men and woman have made mean absolutely NOTHING to them. They could care less. Their supposed support for the troops has been a crock since the beginning.

I would love to see Obama, in Iraq, standing before and audience of soldiers (with Patreaus by his side) and telling them that the surge, which they helped make successful, was a complete failure. My guess is that he wouldn't have the guts.

Cube Commander
The idea of the surge wasn't that of the troops. What they have done in Iraq has been phenomenal! They should be proud that they brought peace to Baghdad and that they are fighting for American freedoms. Te surge was always about the reconciliation, a nearly impossible goal considering the hate generated through the years. Are the Shia going to forget the Bathist who tortured and killed them?

Three Surprises for Chuck
#1: The monsters who attacked us had absolutely nothing to do with anything or anyone in Iraq.

#2: There was no proof whatsoever that Iraq was a threat to the US. (Sure, he had the WMDs. Donald Rumsfled sold and personally delivered them to him.)

#3: According to our own NIE reports, we are less safe, not more, because of W's war of choice.

Chainsaw: (#3) Excellent points!

The latest estimate is four (4) innocent people killed by ILLEGALS each day... And that's a conservative estimate. It's believed that it's actually more.

Wonder why the idiot libs aren't concerned about THAT??? Or do they think 4 innocent dead people are worth the price of cheap lettuce.

The bad news for

Iraq Oil
I get weary listening to all these comments about us being in this war because of their oil. Truth is that so far this year we are receiving about 424K barrels of oil per day from Iraq. This represents less than 5% of the total amount we import.

I find it highly unlikely that this country would spend billions to fight a war for such a small amount of oil.

Truth is - the Iraq war has nothing to do with oil

Evie
Welcome aboard.

I am appalled by killer's response to you. It is one thing for him/her to disagree with you, but to attack you as he did was most telling. Ad hom attacks are generally a sign that someone has no answer for an argument, so he is forced to become unreasonably offensive in attacking the person.

WRONGO ROYINOSIO!
If it were about the oil, we would have 'stolen' it and secured it during the first Gulf War. Ever wonder why you have not heard not even ONE POSITIVE STORY about the war? NOT EVEN ONE? It should be an insult to your intelligence. America is the land of the free. You are free to leave at any time.

Evie: YES, WELCOME ABOARD!

You certainly hit a home run with your post. I was impressed... and grateful to your sons and you as well.

But, you know you hit a home run because at least one of the uncouth libs would post what he did. Always a good sign that you're spot on!

Please tell your sons they're in our prayers... and we're looking forward to more of your posts.

Carol--you HIT the Iraq nail on the head
Right on the money...REPOST for renewal...fascinating the no libs are commenting on what you wrote!...

Anyone who can't see we've pinched in Iran on both sides by Afghanistan and Iraqi wars is blind as a bat! You want a REASON FOR THE WAR, look there. And it's the one thing NOT being said by military or politicians. THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE!

Regarding your query as to the presence of so many virulent leftists on TH:
I can only make a guess, but I believe it's a variation of the contamination principle. My theory is that they cannot stand the fact that there is a source of non-liberal-sludged discussion, so they do everything in their power to contaminate it. Given the number of posters I've seen who go into tangents directed against the libs, rather than discussing the issues, the contamination attacks may be working.

another partisan hack
I actually thought Chuck article was reasonable and fair until the I read reason #3 and then I realized this guy is just another republican blowhard.
Hey Chuck, if you love the war so much how about going there and putting your life on the line. Methinks it is pretty easy to shake hands.

Taft
You are right, the surge wasn't the idea of the troops, or at least orchestrated by them. However, when these troops have to hear a bunch of selfish liberals saying their efforts are a failure, they tend not to take it as support.

Libs and dems then have the nerve to criticize the main architect of the successful surge, Gen. Petraeus, and call him a liar.

As for political reconciliation, you first have to have military success. Put it this way if two kids were throwing rocks at each other on the playground, you have to stop them from throwing the rocks before you can have them reconcile their differences.

Goat boy
Ah yes, the old "Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11" cr@p. We did not go to war with Saddam because he had anything to do with 9/11. You can stick that one back in your had.

You are right, there were no WMDs like Bill Clinton told us there were, so I guess he wasn't the threat that Bill Clinton said he was. Especially when Billy Boy was talking about regime change in Iraq.

Do you selectively rely on the NIE. If that is the case, I guess we don't have to worry about Iran's pursuit of nukes. After all, the NIE said they stopped enriching uranium a few years back.

Another odd point
is that if we were attacked by terrorists again during the Bush administration, it sure as h*ll would be Bush' fault.

That no more attacks have occurred surely then is also Bush' *fault.*

A short review of how we got to Iraq is

1) Gulf War where under UN auspices nearly the entire world joined togehter to oust Saddam from Kuwait (we sent 600,000 troops)

2) Saddam signed a contract that stipulated his end/destruction of WMD, UN inspections, world sanctions, and air patrols

3) 17 resolutions later, Saddam had thrown out the inspectors, shot at Am. and Brit. planes, and incidentally taken billions in a *oil for food* programs where he built palaces as *his* people still starved

4) Iraq had waged an aggressive war against Iran for 8 years and was threatening Saudi Arai via Kuwait (for which we said after WW II, *Never again.*)

5) Saddam never denied WMD and even sent troops into battle in 2003 in hazmat suits

In 1998, the Senate voted 98-0 for regime change in Iraq at Clinton's request.

In 2003, the UN Security Council gave its sanction for a coaltion of countries to invade Iraq. Every Sec. Counc. member believed Iraq at the time was still involved in WMD and had aggressive intentions towards its neighbors.

The US Senate voted in 2003 at 87-12-1 for an invasion of Iraq (and I'll mention here that Clinton sent troops to Bosnia without UN imprimatur or Senate vote).

During the war, after his arrest of Saddam Hussein, the ex-pres. told Am. FBI that he was waiting for the inspectors to be gone for a while and then he would re-constitute his WMD.

The current war discovered tons of weapons, gas, labs, etc. which the MSM here have seen fit to ignore they weren't nuclear bombs, and the MSM has been committed to disparaging the Itaq War and making it another defeat like Vietnam.

rockisback1....huh?!!
"Hey Chuck, if you love the war so much how about going there and putting your life on the line"

I guess encouraging the troops on the frontlines in over 28 locations of Iraq is not "putting your life on the line" for a 68-year old? These weren't greenzone trips! Give me a break! Shoot the guy down for something else--but for bravery and courage?! And I'm sure you've defended America where/when/how?....!!!

Since When Libs support the Military?
Our folks, women and men, in uniforms, superbly serve our country. Thank to their sacrifice, I can see my family every day and go to bed every night with peace in mind. The libs think that they can have that by negotiating with terrorists, whoever they are. They should be thankful that if not for our troops on the look out for the country, their head may have been gone by now, chopped up by terrorists or by radical muslims.

For the record
As I recall, Chuck has put his life on the line during the Vietnam War. How many of us can say as much?

Iraq staunchly in Iran's corner is not in our interest. Where is the Iraqi PM, Malaki later this week?

Oh a last comment the Soviets in Afghanistan was the best thing that ever happened...I hope the US in Iraq... "

Hal, why DO you want the your own country to be humiliated?

Renny
Good outline of events, however, the libs are so full of BDS, they never let facts get in the way. To them every pothole in the road, every rusty doorhinge, every leaky roof and every broken shoelace is George Bush's fault. I shot a bad golf game last weekend. I would suspect GWB had something to do with it.

After all, Bush invented terrorism. He can also build a hurricane out of thin air and aim it straight for New Orleans, where he secretly sabotaged the levees.

Media in Tank for Obama
If Obama goes to Iraq, the media will spin the visit in a way to make the US look bad and make Obama look good. They have lots of experience in both fields. McCain will need to be very aggressive in pointing out the fallacy of Obama's position, without necessarily attacking him personally. Even though Obama has many personal faults, the gross inadequacy of his policies is sufficient if (and only if) they can ever be clearly defined instead of only stated as "change."

Joesolis Writes:
Hal, why DO you want the your own country to be humiliated?

The short answer is that he wants that to happen is because his Democratic Party "Heroes", Murtha, Kerry, Reid, Obama, Clinton, Durbin, et al, want it to happen.

You are SO correct on this. Instead, Obama will not put himself in the position to have to face our brave military.

Oh - and I note that instead of addressing this paragraph in your post, our moveon.org drone, King Liberal, injects useless invective about your first paragraph.

And when all else fails, he pulls out the worn-out, leftists talking point: "you haven't served".

The surge worked?
Really. When did that happen?

Oh, sure, our military did a good job of putting Baghdad on lockdown.

But Bush's goal for the surge was to create "breathing space" for al lMaliki to advance the cause of sectarian reconciliation.

Pretty much everybody, including Bush's ambassador in Iraq, agrees nothing meaningful has happened on that score.

Obama will visit Iraq the same way McCain did: wrapped tightly in body armor and surrounded by combat troops and attack helicopters.

So what?

Word of warning to those folks who get a tingle up the leg with Obama - you are being played by a player - like young runaway girls fresh off a bus in the big city - your 'Bama daddy waiting to take care of you

Cicero had it right
A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious; but it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidible, for he is known and carries his banners openly.

The traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the galleys, heard in the very halls of government itself;

For the traitor appears not to be a traitor-he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, wears their face and their garment, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of men;

He rots the soul of the nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city;

He infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist-a murderer is less to be feared."

So who fits this description of traitorous conduct?

I wouldn't go so far as to call Obama a traitor but if his actions and deeds are any indicator, than he's certainly heading in that direction.

No one could sit and listen to that hate trash talk and not be effected. It makes me sad that racsis of that kind is being preached and taught in a house of God. Going to Iraq will not change his mind, that was obvious when the report from Peterus was slamed before he ever gave it, the armchair generals know better. God help us all. I can honestly say and believe with all my heart that we have been keep safe under Bush, I really don't think that would have happen under the left. I for one thank President Bush for seeing the dangers and taking action.

Is Sanchez a commander on the ground. I would take Petraeus' assesment of the surges success over Sanchez.

Also, I don't need to serve to appreciate what the men and woman in the military have sacrificed. But what is more important is that most of the liberal dolts criticizing our soldiers - calling them criminals, rapists and murderers - have ever served either.

All one needs to do is count the number of movies the left in Hollywood have come out with belittling our brave military men and woman. If our brave military men and woman are heroes and should be honored, liberals have a pretty warped way of showing it.
Also, defecating on the American Flag is a trademark of the loony liberal left. I fly the flag with pride, not Sh_t on it.

If youo had set foot in some of the places that were once in a shambles, you would find thriving local economies now that the people are out from under the jackboot of al-Qaeda and the Al Qods. You would find tribal cooperation and people readying themselves for the October local elections. The whole Sunni/Shia clash was being fanned by external sources and the Iraqi people are exhausted and ready to move forward. The Iraqi military is stronger, leading most operations, and one of the most respected institutions in the country. It took us 10 years to get the Germans to have an independent government. Iraq will never be perfect and violence free (it most certainly was not under Saddam,, he was constantly fighting an insurgency), but it will reach its own equilibrium which the Iraqi people will deem acceptable.

By the way, we have been in Germany, Japan and S. Korea far, far longer.

We do! It's in the world-wide oil commodity market. It's a fungible good, mixed in with the oil that the entire world uses. Just because you haven't watch tankers floating away from Basra or wherever the oil ships out of, doesn't mean it's not fulfilling the unprecedented world-wide demand for oil.

If your statement alludes to the proxy evidence of no oil coming from Iraq due to the world having higher prices for oil and gas, since the time of the liberation of Iraq from Saddam and the U.N. That is not real evidence of no oil coming from Iraq. You can find the data on higher oil production in Iraq by simply going to the IEA webs site.

And, if America attacks Iran, even if it manages to completely destroy all the production facilities and kill all the technicians, as an Iranian I would do all in my power to beg, borrow or steal a bomb. We can be sure that that would be the aim of any future Iranian government. It was, after all, also the aim of the government of the Shah, and had he lived a few more years the current Iranian government would have inherited nuclear weapons. It should be quite a show.

Your post actually condradicts Hal who is claiming Iran was in deep trouble in 2003, but "due to Bush" they are now "strong and powerful" - look at the dates of your stories on how Iran & Iminneedofajihad is falling apart and self-destructing (2007).

You ever hear of the Ilamic concept called hudnah? It's a temporary peace treaty that allows time for a weaker Islamic state to grow strong enough to defeat the other signatory to a "peace treaty."

christianlib writes

One thing I forgot to mention...Those countries that have peace treaties are Arab. Iran is Persian. There has always been animosity between the Persians and Arabs.

I misunderstood. On the one hand Iran itself, was in a poor position regionally, but the government of Ahmadinijad was just up and coming. The Iraq war gave Iran everything they could have dreamed of. Maliki and Talabani, as well as Sitani, are all long standing good friends of Iran.

The Polarization Continues
A couple weeks ago, Prager interviewed Arianna Huffington on his show. She noted the small spike in US military deaths in April and declared this spike as indisputable proof that the surge had failed. But in May, US military deaths were at or near the lowest for the past 5 years. Does that change things for libs? No way! They have invested so much time, effort and energy into a US defeat that they cannot fathom any other outcome. By the way, I am still waiting for Kerry, Fonda, et al to apologize for advocating our defeat in Vietman which thereafter led to the deaths of millions in SE Asia as brutal, totalitarian regimes took over. Only an ignoramus can believe that a similar result would not occur in Iraq should the US once again be forced to withdraw from the battle due to the liberal's love of defeat.

How does it go . . . say something enough times and people will believe it, regardless of the truth. So tell me, sir, how has your life been so poor for the past 8 years? Has your income dropped? Have your taxes increased? Which specific, individual rights have you lost under Pres. Bush? Have terrorists attacked you or your loved ones on US soil? If your 401K balance has dropped, it is not GWB's fault. If you dislike $4 per gallon gas, then blame the Chinese and Indians who are consuming 10 times more than they consumed just a few years ago as they strive to achieve just fraction of the general prosperity that most Americans take for granted. As for cowboy diplomacy, another liberal silly phrase, perhaps you would prefer the Kerry way of seeking permission from the world community before taking action? ...the Democrat-controlled congress has not achieved even one of their election promises or goals (although I believe they did rename a post office in Podunk, GA).

If you describe a 70-75 percent success rate as failure, what word would you use for a zero success rate?

PW: That's easy. I'll give you two words. One is filibuster. Another is veto.

Since the Democrats won majorities in 06, the Republican minority has staged a record number of filibusters, and Bush discovered the only power he hadn't previously laid claim to...the power to veto.

Dumb and Dumber
So, Hal, which causes more death and disease each year? AIDs and STDs or lead poisoning? Give me a break. Libs want to regulate everything EXCEPT sex, which they want to have with anyone, anytime, anywhere. And when sex leads to pregancy (go figure) or STDs, then they want to abort the child, or increase welfare benefits for the unwed, or divert funding from other areas to STDs research

And anyone who believes that the government can run a better health system than the private sector is delirous. One small example: which schools perform better year after year after year? Public or private?

Finally, to blame the decline in the dollar on the Bush administration is hopelessly ignorant. The dollar is weak because of a massive federal debt. BOTH parties have been over-spending federal money for many years. Our national debt is the result of DECADES of irresponsible fiscal policy by every administration since FDR.

Another one for King Lib - how about those rising food prices? Propaganda!
I understand Chuck that we desire to see Huck be on the ticket but I dissagree with you on your assessement on this. Obama says the mindset that let us into the Iraq war was wrong and I agree with him 100%. McCain didn't tell the truth when he said he was able to go out on the streets without body armor and that Gen Patreaues goes out with an unarmed Humvee. The pictures showed otherwise. There has been progress in Iraq but I do think that we need to talk with Iran and Iraq's neigbors to stabilize the country. We are fighting against Iran for the most part in Iraq. If the US does not negotiate with Iran it will be very difficult to see a stable Iraq. I liked Mike Huckabee for his truthfulness to the American people. He is not involved in the kind of negative campaign and negative journalism seen in the GOP. I am tired of it, most voters are tired of it. In the last few weeks that's what John McCain has been involved in. His anger and hatred for Obama just comes out each time he attacks him. I would prefer for him to share where he plans to take the country to rather than senseless attacks that do not work.

Hey Chuck
Hey Chuck,

How about instead of your 3 bogus "surprises" you take a look at 3 facts -- none of which has anything to do with "victory" for Al Qaeda or "defeat" for us.

Fact #1. From day 1, the Sunnis and Kurds had no intention of willingly joining a Shiite authoritarian democracy -- and do not to this day.

Fact#2. The Shiite “democracy” is an authoritarian democracy, not a constitutional democracy. The judiciary is run by Shiites for Shiites under Shiite sharia law.

This was entirely predictable since there are NO instances in human history where constitutional government has arisen, including post-war Germany, Japan and Korea, without a long history and growth of a comprehensive system of property rights.

There has NEVER been an authoritarian democracy that became a constitutional democracy. In other words, elections do not create freedom.

Fact#3. All of our troops are heroes, and everybody who recognizes the idiocy of your article believes they are heroes. Understanding that you don’t know what your talking about is not the same thing as disrespecting the troops.

"Give me a break. Libs want to regulate everything EXCEPT sex,..."

"And anyone who believes that the government can run a better health system than the private sector is delirous. One small example: which schools perform better year after year after year? Public or private? "

Let's talk results. Infrastructure i.e. pipelines, roads, rails all need government oversight and regulation to function. It is not a fluke that we no longer have the world's best science, education, healthcare, infrastructure as we did until you anti government conservatives started having your way in the late 60s. When Reagan became Governor of CA they had the best school system in the world when Reagan finally became President CA no longer had the world's best school system but the country had the world's best air traffic control system. Judge by results. Results are conservatism has been and is a disaster for the entire country

"Finally, to blame the decline in the dollar on the Bush administration is hopelessly ignorant. The dollar is weak because of a massive federal debt."

BS the Bush Regime stopped publishing the amount of money being printed years ago. Don't give me the "both parties" who the heck was in control?

You are dead DEAD wrong on education.

There hasn't been a cons. idea in pub. ed. since Russia sent up Sputnik in 1957.

Reagan never interferred with pub. ed., and Bush' No Child Left Behind is a Kennedy idea.

The SATs peaked in 1972; in 1972, the pres. of the NEA said schools would now be engines social change; the Sup. Ct. passed Cohen v CA and ruled f**k was ok in ordinary conversation, the Warren Ct. invented Roe v Wade, and Ms. magazine started. Whadda banner year.

Since then, ed. has experienced New Math (set theory w/out computation; actually, a 60s phenom), issues ed (history without dates, people, events, or memory), whole language (reading without vocabulary, syntax, or comprehension), whole math (problems w/numbers), sex ed (biology without ethics or morals), and all the no-curricula: no smoking (teenagers are the largest number of smokers in the US), no drugs (every pub. school is a center for drug sales and distribution), and no obesity (every hallway spews vending munchiea that are needed to support buying uniforms for the football players and band).

I am retired from 30 years of teaching 7-12, journalism, and honors classes (still coach chess), and now teach on the college level. I always joke that when your local taxes are applied to some other property and your house is up for tax auction due to bureaucratic snafu, that is one of my former students performing in the best way he/she knows how.

I can't wait until they get to administer universal healthcare.

BONUS Norris material...
Chuck's EXCLUSIVE WND version of this article has about TWICE the material. WELL WORTH the read...

Why it's Working and Why We Are There
Thanks Chuck! For Everything.
From a recent post on my blog... Stop on by!

...Of course a smile can hide fangs and it sometimes does.
But not always.
A big reason such progress has been made lately is because of many more common Iraqis coming forward to help flush out the bad guys.
A big reason THAT has happened is because we have let them come to really know us, by going into these neighborhoods and BEING with them.
Toys and candy and hygiene items and playing with the children... and working with the adults making friends all leads to this very thing.
Friends.
Not in all cases. But we don't need all cases.
Once a critical mass is reached, the bad guys can no longer get a foothold.
Because our new friends are flushing them out.

Through being with them and more a part of their lives, the Iraqis get quite a different picture than that which has always been painted for them by the bad guys and the greater aid and comfort media.

If you think taking the fight, (that which the bad guys have declared upon you and the Iraqis and the whole free world) to them on their chosen turf is not 'for the better', then we welcome any historically validated 'better' ideas.
Till then, I consider it better to take a stand, now.

For the sake of our women and children and homeland.
And for the sake of the free world.
We stand against darkness and tyranny.
Because we are America.
The light and the hope of this world.
The land of the free.
And the home of the brave.

right back at you

http://www.slate.com/id/2184890/

Obama just doesn't get it.
I have realized that over this long and drawn out process that Obama just doesn't get it. He chooses not to visit Iraq because he clings to his left-winged ideals rather than even attempting to view what the truths are.

I have experienced the spin of the MSM with my unit's experiences in Iraq. While there was a woman throwing grenades at soldiers, a CNN reporter said that the soldier shot an innocent Iraqi woman who was doing nothing wrong. It's this sort of behavior that leads to the misconceptions amongst Americans.

Obama has voted "Present" more than "Yea" or "Neh". He doens't even care enough to vote on an issue, so why would we expect him to actually care about our soldiers? If he can't even perform at the job he has, why would we want to essentially promote him? McCain has my vote.

filibusters and obstructionism
interesting that 02-06 all we heard from republicans was how democrats were filibustering and obstructed congress (remember the nuclear option?)

now the republicans are doing the same thing but democrats have been civil and let the republicans simply state that they have enough votes to block legislation and the democrats let them get by without making them literally filibuster but it is technically a filibuster.

of course, that civility now brings the claim that it was a do-nothing congress by those who want to act hypocritically.

brittney
first obama will go to iraq and will go soon.

get your facts straight, he has voted yea or nay more than present.

finally, what exactly have we won in iraq.

a shiite government more aligned with iran than the U.S. and most cities run by sharia law.

and most importantly, walls everywhere, we have simply isolated sunnis from shia and called it success.

it took 4000 american lives to figure that out?

last but not least you must be aware we are paying sunni males $300 a month not to fight us.

talk about bribery or welfare.

what happens when they no longer get their monthly stipend?

His first(I Believe) lessons were in South Korea. So before you attack someone, set down your own bona fides. You and boutte should Butte out!!

both john mccain and oback obama have missed this many votes.

50% (222) Del. Eni Faleomavaega [D-AS] since Feb 8, 2007
32% (143) Res.Com. Luis Fortuño [R-PR] since Feb 8, 2007
30% (57) Rep. Jackie Speier [D-CA] since Apr 10, 2008
27% (119) Del. Madeleine Bordallo [D-GU] since Feb 8, 2007
22% (960) Rep. Jo Ann Davis [R-VA] since Jan 3, 2001
21% (255) Sen. Barack Obama [D-IL] since Jan 6, 2005
18% (1531) Rep. Barbara Cubin [R-WY] since Jan 4, 1995
18% (427) Rep. Bobby Jindal [R-LA] since Jan 4, 2005
17% (677) Sen. John McCain [R-AZ] since Feb 4, 1993

so would you like to revise your statement that
"He doens't even care enough to vote on an issue, so why would we expect him to actually care about our soldiers?"

the same could be said of mccain who has voted against the GI bill and obama voted for it.

Obama, though he sure lacks experience, has character and intelligence on his side so we are going to be better off than what we've had to put up with the last 8 years. The bottom line is we can't just rely on our MSM for our info, but have to go to books by unbiased experienced people in the ME and read the best blogs available.

Democracy takes some effort, but it's worth it!!!

Wobbie
Why do you even try to post. All will be gone by tomorrow morning.

Your posts calling Hal Doofus a drunk. Your post saying you really work at a fast food restaurant.

All gone by tomorrow morning; except my post describing what you said will still be here.

Anne
"You actually think that Republicans and Conservatives don't support the troops?

You are far more insane and deranged that we thought!"

Facts judge people by their results MRAP is a classic example no new vehicles who cares if Marines die. As I recall back then you even called MRAP pork. Show me results

GrayGhost: Isn't that a hoot, the way

"Robert's" post just seem to disappear.. Poof!

Makes me laugh every time... HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

You too, I bet! :-)

Gray Ghost
Tell us again why you are not in the military?

i agree
that the insurgency is slowing but paying sunnis not to fight is not a long term plan.

al-sadr is demanding a referendumn on the U.S. even being there and he is going to win most of the south in the october elections.

al-maliki has produced very little in the way of water and electricty.

in fact al-sadr may be the next prime minister and that will be the end of the road for our involvement.

so then what happens if they tell us to leave.

i pray to God you are right and i am wrong but we have been hearing this happy talk for 5 years now so excuse me if i don't quite buy in yet.

halD: You truy are FAR more insane and
deranged that we thought!

Now, ask Mrs. D to help you into bed... Nighty-night.

Done with you for now. I have better things to be concerned with than.... oh well... we won't go into that.

Anne
Anne I have to call you on your spelling. You left your "E" out of Soreass! HEHE.

Hey Anne
I wonder if the military issues Purple Hearts for paper cuts. Should I ask a paper pusher? I think one keeps miserably trying to insult you and all he does is look worse.

The Surge worked?
There's no doubt that the greatest military in the history of the planet can create a great deal of stability and calm. This trillion dollar war cannot be sustained--the surge cannot be sustained--it is time for the Iraqis to take over.

The Surge will only work if Iraqi political stability ensues.

Tough guys and tough talk achieve little in the long run.

Norris, go back to Hollywood !
Or go put on a uniform and go over there and fight yourself. My god you should be in pretty good shape with all the exercise you get doing commercials for that exercise equipment. Or better yet send your son over there and we will see how happy you are. What is G. Bush doing trying to correct the mistakes made in Vietman? He used lies to get us in Iraq just like Johnson did to get us to Vietnam and now we need McCain to get us out of Iraq just like we needed Nixon to get us out of Vietnam. Oh, let me not forget, "with honor". War has no honor! I suppose you would be proud if your son or daughter died in the just cause of Iraq. Take is from one who fought in combat, you don't want to be there. Ron Paul is the only man who has seen all this folly and power struggle and realizes it is all about oil and lives. Wonder why all those military gave him more money than all the rest of the canidates put together? Because they want to come home, and I bet if you took a vote amoung them, they would say the same thing. Bring them home and bring them home now. Oh, Chuck you were real good in those Nam movies.

Robert
Admit it man, you are only changing your tune because the announcement that B. Husein Obama took the spot You have been ,once again, proven WRONG! Let's see, I think the words from your little fingers was "Get ready to say (MADAME) President". Poor wobbie, Wrong again!

By the way...
remember the economy after Vietnam, you ain't seen nothing yet. We will be paying for years to come. We are filling the VA Hospitals so much so that they are now outsourcing to outside clinics and hospitals and the physic wards will be seeing some of those boys for years to come. All for a just cause and honor. I say its not worth it.

eastlake:(#226) Purple Hearts for paper

cuts? And don't forget about falling off the bar stool!

Good question! I'm not sure, but if Kerry had anything to say about it... the answer would definitely be YES! :-)

"I think one keeps miserably trying to insult you and all he does is look worse."

Yeah, I know. Go figure. And I tried to stand up for him too. I even wrote a note so people would excuse him for his acute BDS, insanity, and derangement.

And he still tries to insult me.... Joke that he is, and his insults, he does keep trying. HA

Eastlake: Can you believe that "Robert"

is actually claiming this time????

Appears that he's losing it, right in front of our very eyes.

Don
I'm with you.

Here is a good article by Lawrence Korb -- Assistant Secretary of Defense for Ronald Reagan, printed at "The American Conservative" website.

http://www.amconmag.com/2008/2008_05_19/article3.html

Since it is a well-reasoned article with a truly Conservative point of view, the neocon dolts at this web site won't bother to read it.

You remember Ronald Reagan don't you people? When we actually has someone in the White House who was a Conservative?

Why don't the comments come up?
I want to read if people buy this---that the surge is working.

Let me say this, I hope I'm wrong and the Iraqis can develop a civil society.
