Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

On March 3, a live 10-week webinar hosted by Oprah Winfrey and Eckhart Tolle, author of "A New Earth," began. Both the book and the online course purport to be able to awaken you and our world to life's grand purpose.

Since Oprah's endorsement of Tolle's book a month ago, about 3.5 million copies of his spiritual self-help guide have been sent out to enlighten the minds of people around the globe. More than 500,000 people in 125 countries have signed up for the World Wide Web seminar.

But will this religious text and its subsequent Internet churchlike gathering really lead you and our world to God's gates of splendor? Is it merely a coincidence that Winfrey and Tolle's spiritual quest aligns with one of Christendom's most sacred times of year? To me, it is more evidence of the paradigm shift in our culture from its moral absolute and Judeo-Christian basis to a relativistic worldview, in which anything goes and everything is tolerated. The fact is Tolle's "A New Earth" is being adopted and transformed into Oprah's new Easter.

Like most self-help spiritual texts of this type, it is a blend of half-truths and half-fabrications. One easily could save the purchase price of "A New Earth" -- and subsequently avoid its misleading remarks -- by reading the Bible, which gives a much more thorough and accurate picture of life's purpose and the methods for overcoming its obstacles.

Tolle himself doesn't align with any one religion but blends tenets of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Sufism, Christianity and other faiths. A review in The Vancouver Sun said of Tolle:

"His spiritual outlook has become more complex since (his earlier book) The Power of Now, when he dismissed external reality as an illusion and made it sound as if 'living in the now' was a panacea for all the world's problems. …

"In addition, Tolle believes outer realities -- including politics, war, poverty and even the climate -- will magically be transformed when individuals change their inner consciousness. This may be true, but only to an extent."

The reason Tolle's psychology and spirituality is marketed so easily is that it is an eclectic mix of conventional and unconventional wisdom, and Western and Eastern beliefs, presented in a tolerant, non-threatening and nonsectarian way. In other words, it's Religion Light, in which one can be spiritual with little down and no credit.

Tolle only quotes relatively benign sayings of Jesus, avoiding the more difficult ones. For example, Tolle notes that Jesus taught that the "kingdom of heaven" is already present on earth and can be experienced right now, but Tolle overlooks Jesus' teaching that one must be born again (by believing in him as the Son of God and Savior) to see that kingdom in the future.

When will we learn? Our pursuit and attainment of truth is hindered most by our subjective (or a la carte) selections of religion and refusal to consider tougher commandments that call us to higher accountability and our true purpose. That is why I'm endorsing -- and even have written the foreword for -- an upcoming (April 15 release) revolutionary book, "Do Hard Things," written by Alex Harris and Brett Harris. It offers real insight and rewards for life by commendably calling us to rebel against the low expectations of culture and choose to "do hard things."

My battle is not with Oprah; she has her guru (Tolle), and I have mine (Jesus). The real war is between those who assert to be bearers of the truth, such as Tolle and Jesus. And the question is: With contradicting truths, will we believe a mere man or one who claimed to be so much more? As C.S. Lewis -- the great Oxford scholar and writer of "The Chronicles of Narnia," who was once an avid atheist -- wrote:

"A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a good moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. …

"You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great moral teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to."

That might not be what Oprah, Tolle or others around the world want to hear on their webinar, but he is everything we all need to obtain peace with God and peace with one another.

Again, the question is: Will we turn from what's easy, what's new, what's popular -- even what's "Oprah" -- and take a step back and rediscover the answers that have been there all along? As C.S. Lewis also said: "We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive."

ROCK ON CHUCK! BEST EVER!
Finally a Hollywood mogul willing to stand up against the Oprah-nator!

I also read Chuck’s World Net Daily same (but exclusive) article and it contains another 300 or so more words (elaborations and further great points), links, and a very cool photo of “Norris vs. Oprah”. They must allow him a little more space there in writing. Check out that more elongated version at http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=57827

While you’re at World Net Daily, check out Chuck’s archives of articles…some awesome columns over the past year, from stories with Bruce Lee and martial arts to diatribes on our Founding Fathers…. http://wnd.com/index.php/?pageId=43&authorId=29&tId=8

I’ve been following his column for a year—very impressed with the man’s ability to reason and write. Great to see Chuck on TownHall and in syndication!

RIP OPRAH
So grateful someone of Chuck's caliber has finally spoke up to Oprah. I commend you Mr. Norris (and you did it with a lot more gentlemen conduct than I would). Thanks for being willing to fight for conservatism and Christianity.

Oprah has said
on her show that there are many paths that lead to God. She was referring to different religions. She's obviously part of the new left wing church. The type of church that views all religions equally, thinks abortion is necessary and believes God never said anything against homosexuality. The type of church which has a form of godliness, but denies the power thereof.

Oprah seems to not know the Creator
Oprah seems to not know who the Creator is. Knowledge and wisdom starts with knowing who the Creator is. If Oprah should know who the Creator is, Jesus Christ, she wouldn't waste everyone's time diverting people's attention from the truth.

The sad thing is that she still has credibility promoting confusion.

Oprah
Has been one of the worst people for the spiritual well-being of this nation. She has gathered so many followers who adhere to her every word that she has become a cult icon. But she knows nothing of Christian theology, and she promotes psycho-babble and every left-wing ideological idea as if they were all true. She has long been a tool of Satan.

keep it up chuck
Your columns are great. Thanks

But why do they do it?
But why does Oprah host anything? Why does Tolle write books? Why does Norris write here? Call me cynical but I would say it is money and the excitement from the power to influence others. This is the same motivation that drives politicians and preachers the world over. People have passions and lusts and need a hook on which to hang them. For some that could be football, for others it is religion. When this becomes extreme it is what drives terrorists. I think we have to look honestly at what drives people, as much as what they say and what their policies are or how their supporters spin and I think this applies to all aspects of our relations with other people. So without writing a book I have given you the formula to transform you inner consciousness and satisfied my lust for power and influence.I will let you know how to send contributions to me, preferably with a continuous direct debit from your bank account.

Good article
Enjoyed this column. Norris is a very bright guy. His books are excellent. I think he is too quick to seemingly reject the idea of borrowing concepts from other great faiths, but his overall gist is well taken.

Chuck, I will read yours ...
Easter to me and my church is Gratitude for what Jesus taught through the morning breakfast.

We are spiritual! (Not material)

He proves our everlasting life, without death, that long night.

He never doubted God's Love, nor should we.

Imagine
Oprah peddles the same hippie twaddle I heard in college in the 1960s. It was twaddle in the Sixties and it is twaddle to this very day.

However, it does appeal to the generation that insists on results without effort: weight loss without diet and exercise, a diploma without an education, a promotion without putting in the extra work, a fortune without putting in any work at all.

What Oprah and her guru preach is the gospel of Socialism: you CAN have everything you want, and somebody else will pay.

Nellie writes:
" Easter to me and my church is Gratitude for what Jesus taught through the morning breakfast.

Huh? Gratitude for what Jesus taught through the 'morning breakfast'?

We're spiritual, not material? We're actually very material - it's what the bodily resurrection is all about.

Proves everlasting life, without death?

He never doubted God's Love? Who didn't???

Help me out here?

Oprah
is nothing more than a peddler of her own biases & bigotry.
She is probably the most influential racist in this country & enjoys the envy of Louis Farrakhan & Jesse Jackson.

Her followers offer solid proof of how dumb this nation is.

Yo Chuck....
you little runt, I'm glad you've found a soapbox to stand on to cast a verbal spotlight on Oprah. That gal is leading a lot, and I man a whole lot, of otherwise 'intelligent' women away from 'traditional' Christianity, where fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Instead she's leading her willing flock down the primrose 'feel good now' path that casts off most restraints and ultimately leads to death, destruction and damnation. That is if you believe in the faith of our fathers. That's just it... Oprah doesn't!

Well Done
I couldn't agree more Chuck, very well done!!!

AudiR10
Thank You! You beat me to it! This is hippie twaddle and it wasn't even all that new when the hippies did it.

Tolle is not the first to do this nor will he be the last...unfortunately.

Opera and Islam

“Tolle himself doesn't align with any one religion but blends tenets of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Sufism, Christianity and other faiths.” … Chuck Norris

Opera is a member of a racist church with a pastor that has admitted Louis Farrakhan (Nation of Islam) is his idol. Why would Opera be a member of a church that worships the practice of racism and hatred of America through the pastor’s idol?

Answer: because she, like Obama, is an Islam worshipper, in hiding, who hates America and Opera has a magazine and show to help brainwash Americans in a subliminal way.

This is why she has hooked up with this cat, because he ties in with Islam in an indirect way.

Opera’s church’s mission statement is all about racism:

http://www.tucc.org/about.htm

Wow, very well said.
People love Oprah's type of 'spirituality' because it demands very little of them. There is no such idea as 'sin' or 'repentance', no obedience needed, no submission to a higher authority. You are your own authority.

In other words, the same old lie from Genesis 3, repackaged:

"You will be like God."

Mad TV
does the best Oprah skits (that include the fire and brimstone). Classic.

Dear Idiot Norris;
Once again thank you for giving us three liberals to choose from in November.

I will never vote for Huckabee. Not even for dog catcher. He and you are finished.

The Gospel according to Oprah
This is just one more example of Oprah Winfrey's ongoing worship of HERSELF. Over the years she has embraced several "New Age Spiritualists" whose message, in essence, is "Worship Yourself." "Create your own morality." "You are the God of your World." Which basically means you can be as selfish as you want, as hedonistic as you want, do anything you want, and it's OK because, when you create your own morality, you make the rules. And, by the way, anyone who tries to JUDGE you, or disapproves of your selfish life, is hopelessly lost in the Judeo-Christian patriarchal culture.

A la carte Christianity
It's ironic that Norris criticizes Tolle for making "subjective (or a la carte) selections of religion and refusal to consider tougher commandments," yet he does the same thing himself by citing only part of Jesus's dialog with Nicodemus. Jesus did NOT say that being born again means "believing in him as the Son of God and Savior." Rather, when Nicodemus pressed him further to explain how a man could be "born when he is old," Christ explained that being "born again" means to be "born of water and of the Spirit" (John 3:5) -- i.e., baptism by immersion and bestowal of the Holy Ghost. Like Norris, there are many "a la carte Christians" who ignore this key point, yet they feel qualified to condemn others for not conforming to their own narrow view of who is a Christian.

RA and Kurtis Kearl...
RA: Chill, the article is about Oprah not Huckabee (shed the bitterness)

Kurtis Kearl: Good point, but you and Norris are both right. Your clarification, "baptism by immersion and bestowal of the Holy Ghost," can only be obtained by Norris "believing in Him as the Son of God and Savior." Hence, the point of Great Commission (baptize believers--Matthew 28:19-20) and filling of Holy Spirit (given to those who believe in Jesus as Son of God and Savior--Ephesians 1:13-14). Two ways up the same theological mountain. But thanks for the clarification.

article by Chuck Norris (New Easter)

Absolute twaddle. This egg under the spring daffodil is cracked. Please, Mr. Norris, concentrate on your movies.

Go complex
It is well known that oprah has a God complex with so many fawning over her but this book club is just as dirty as the old "Payola" corruption of the old days and she is just a tiny part of the anything but God hollywood crowd. I just feel for her soul knowing that she is now respobcible for leading other people astray ala jim jones or any other cultists. I hope she will have a come backl to reality moment. All these self help spiritual books are just bad capitalists like scientology and fade away like the hula-hoop and the 8 track tapes. Great article Chuck, you come along way from battling Bruce Lee.

Oprah's Black National Anthem
Am I the only one who taped and remembers the memorial service for 9-11 victims? They paraded celebrities into the stadium and Oprah was among them.

When it came her turn, she wanted to lead the people in the stadium to sing the BLACK NATIONAL ANTHEM. Again, emphasis added...the BLACK National Anthem!!!!

To me, Oprah is a fraud. The Bible tells us that in the end times people will believe a lie and be damned...

My spin...believe a lie and be Dem'd.

HMMM...sounds like a good book title for Laura or Ann... "I'll be Dem'd!"

Obama and Oprah "missing religious link"
So what shall we make of the "missing religious link" between Obama and Oprah? Shall we conclude that Oprah would endorse a presidential candidate who was anything less religiously? Christian??

Chuck

First and Foremost, before I get started, let me thank you for your over-the-top support for our troops in Iraq. You are a patriot!

This is obviously a delicate and emotional subject. Its one thing to banter politics and quite another to criticize someone’s religion. So before I continue, let me get my alibis out of the way. Nothing I say is personal and the last thing I want to do is attack someone's faith.

Please don’t let the name “INTHENOW” mislead you to any foregone stereotypical conclusion about me, or my political stance. I have 22 years of military service and probably like you, consider myself a patriot and traditionalist in most respects. In my 51 years of life, I’ve learned that the truth is usually hidden somewhere in the middle between black and white, right and left, etc. On most issues, I try to keep an open but critical mind in search of the perfect shade of grey. However like most folks, I’m not without my absolutes that guide me through life.

I assume you’ve read both “The Power of Now” and “A New Earth” and are not just relying on critiques as your source. I listened to the audio version of the former last year, after my staunchly conservative friend of 35 years insisted on it. And I’ve just started the latter…which so far seems to be a rehash of The Power of Now. I would’ve gladly joined the Tolle discussion, but I live in Italy with a 256kbps connection…not an option for me.

I spent some hours at the Oprah website blogging with others about the book. What amazed me the most, was the sheer number of people who came away with such diverse interpretations after reading the same chapters. I began to wonder if there was more than one version in print. However, there seemed to be two underlying themes to the plethora of posts; total rejection or complete acceptance. I fall in neither category and we know where you stand.

From what I read, Tolle’s not advocating that his text is religious. In fact he makes it a point to define religion and spiritualism as two different concepts. He further goes on to say, “This book’s main purpose is not to add new information or beliefs to your mind or try to convince you of anything, but to bring about a shift in consciences, that is to say, to awaken.” He reiterates this theme throughout the book. It’s not about finding or redefining your faith...it’s about seeing it from a completely different perspective.

You said: “The fact is Tolle's "A New Earth" is being adopted and transformed into Oprah's new Easter”

I’m not sure what you mean. I think you’re inferring that Tolle and Oprah are somehow scheming to replace traditional Easter with something else. Maybe I’m gullible, but I think their efforts are motivated by a sincere desire to help others. You might disagree about the value of the content they’re espousing, but to infer a left oriented hidden agenda to replace Easter is, I think a bit much. However, I’ll assume you’re exaggerating to make a point that I’m missing.

You said: “Like most self-help spiritual texts of this type, it is a blend of half-truths and half-fabrications One easily could save the purchase price of "A New Earth" -- and subsequently avoid its misleading remarks -- by reading the Bible, which gives a much more thorough and accurate picture of life's purpose and the methods for overcoming its obstacles.”.

This is unnecessary and detracts from your article. It’s completely subjective and without supporting reference…including the Star and C.S. Lewis. What makes you qualified to make such a sweeping statement without supporting proof? Misleading to whom? In what way? These are the kind of subjective unsubstantiated statements the opposition seeks to discredit you with. I could just as well say the Koran is crap, or point to a particular version of the old or new testament, and proclaim this one “gives a much more thorough and accurate picture of life's purpose and the methods for overcoming its obstacles.” These kind of unsupported remarks have already misled those on this board who have not read the book. No doubt you could open the bible and point to a reference that supports your stated belief and discredits any others…beware false prophets. Again, totally subjective based on your religious perspective and interpretations. “This is the only path to the one true god.”

cont...

I'm a Better Man
cont

Your premise (besides trying to discredit the book) appears to be that the true religion is “hard” to come by…you have to “work” at it…it’s not “easy”. And if it comes easy, it must somehow be cheap or false. Tolle would agree with you. He cites more than one example of people becoming enlighten, awakened, conscious (use whatever term you want) after extreme pain and suffering. Only when they hit bottom, did their perspective change.

You also note that Tolle mentions many works of theological and spiritual literature and quotes prophets from across the religious spectrum. All true. But what you’re failing to tell your readers is why. What he does is highlight the parallels and underlying connecting themes of most religious teachings. This is nothing new. Theologists have been studying this for a long time. How do you think he supports his assertions…he uses references…someone’s already done the work. His point is that typically religions divide us; they tend to give us all or nothing choices…my way or the highway.

cont...

I'm a Better Man
Tolle doesn’t deny that Jesus is the son of god…or that he isn’t. He doesn’t dispute Mohamed or espouse Buddha. He advises that if you’re already at peace with whatever religion you practice, then look no further…put down the book a go in peace.

You do yourself and your readers an injustice by telling them not to read the book. I hope they’re wise enough to read it and make their own decision.

I’ve read the bible and listen to the Power of Now. I don’t ascribe to everything in either book…but I’m a better man for listening to both.

Guilty! I suppose the ego is hard at work. But I'm obviously passionate about this and want to substantiate and explain my position. Guess it could shorter.

Oprah and Tolle
Chuck, it is ashame so many others of our partydo not talk like us. I agree with youre assesment of the truth. We either believe in him or we do not. I for one do, yet I am chastised by so many other Republicans because according to them `I am not a Christian', I am Anglican Episcopalian, with Roman Catholic and Lutheran beliefs mixed in.
I follow his word and try to do as he askes in his name, to my very best. But I am mortal and fail often. But I do not mix religion with Polotics or business it makes a foul mess when it does. Look at the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Balkans.
Then this election.

INTHENOW (or Mr. Eckhart's assistant)
Totally agree with "Beyond the Pale." For a book that's supposed to rid you of ego, that sure was a great ego diatribe.

You say, "Tolle doesn’t deny that Jesus is the son of god…or that he isn’t. He doesn’t dispute Mohamed or espouse Buddha."

That's Norris' point and why the C.S. Lewis quote. You can't play a la carte with the real Jesus--He didn't leave that option open--Jesus was exclusive to Truth (John 14:6). Tolle is tolerant about everything and against nothing. What if there is absolute truth??

Lastly, you say, Tolle "advises that if you’re already at peace with whatever religion you practice, then look no further…put down the book and go in peace."

So...put down the keyboard, walk away from your computer and this web site, and go in peace. Your ego will be better for it.

Reply to Carol
Great post,

INTHENOW'S post is so blah, blah, blah,...

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary to superimpose the figure two upon the numeral two, I say unto you without fear of successful contradiction that the consequential result is four...

Hey, in the now, 2 + 2 is four will do quite fine, thank you.

Carol Chase writes:
Thanks for the compliment. No argument concerning my ego…I have a long road to hoe.

Nowhere does Lewis mention or infer piece-mealing religion? He is asserting that you can only accept Jesus as the son of god…not as a prophet. He contends that only a lunatic would declare himself the son of god. And therefore since he’s not a prophet and obviously sane, he must be the son of god.

There is an absolute truth Ms. Chase, but Jesus isn’t the only path to it.

BTW, did you read the book?

False Prophets
Our pastor preached on this very thing just 2 Sundays ago. I couldn't help but think, Ophra is a she devil with a cult following just like the long line of cults this world has experienced for millienia. If anyone doesn't get what Chuck is talking about then we need to find a God fearing Bible beleiving teaching church so we'll not get caught up in these man made religions.

Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Mar 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if [it were] possible, even the elect.

One thing necessary…

A trait of the false prophet is that he declares peace when there is no peace. [Jeremiah 6:13-15]

The Bible says that the kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit [Romans 14:17]. The way to peace and joy spoken of as ‘in the Holy Spirit’ is predicated on righteousness. Since God is Holy, not just any righteousness will do. Only a perfect righteousness is good enough.

How are we to obtain a perfect righteousness? What about our sins? How shall we get forgiveness of sin? Shall we pursue good works? How many good works are needed to atone for our sin? This is why the Bible says that by the works of the Law no flesh will be made righteous. Our sin must be covered before we can hope to have a perfect righteousness.

Now, there is but one source of a perfect righteousness. This is the only righteousness acceptable to God and necessary for men to possess in order to enter the kingdom of God and to enjoy the peace and joy of God. Peace apart from this righteousness is the peace of the false prophet.

The Bible says that God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him [2 Corinthians 5:21]. In the Gospel our sin is imputed to Christ and His righteousness is imputed to us. This is the imputed righteousness of faith apart from works available to all who will call upon the name of the Lord.

There is no other name under heaven whereby men must be saved. Is there any other man who possesses a perfect righteousness? Is there any other man who can cover our sins? This is why the Gospel of Christ is called the good news of grace.

New age teaching is not new
2 Timothy 3:1-5...In the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affections, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts.

INTHENOW deserves respect here
I don't necessarily agree with all of INTHENOW's comments; but you people here should be a little more respectful to INTHENOW.

No skin off your noses if INTHENOW wants to express his/her opinions. Better to respond with some dignity and grace - not the judgemental childishness you've shown.

Undookie, ValiantForTruth, and CALIFSON
Undookie, ValiantForTruth, and CALIFSON

Thanks for giving some thought to you comments.

The quoted scripture about false prophets is relevant, but not to this book. I’m not seeking salvation through any false prophet. Like you, I’m pretty sure I can spot the BS when it’s served up…in any form.

Had you read either book, you’d know that your quotes have nothing to do with the author’s message. He does not claim to be anyone’s savior, nor does he advocate changing your religion. The book is not about religion. It is about your perception of yourself, others around you, and the universe.

Tolle does not preach that everything is acceptable, or that there are no limits and anything goes. The total acceptance he refers to can be summed up in three words…don’t sweat it. Use the word “ignore” if it better fits your semantics. What he’s suggesting is no different than what a doctor would recommend if you were stressed out. If a situation is causing you pain, then either remove yourself from it, change it, or if you can’t change it, accept (ignore) it for what it is. Does this sound familiar? "God give me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." This is what Tolle means by total acceptance. To understand this true meaning, and then twist it into some type of liberal mantra is cheap and contrived.

When people read this book, they either get it, or they don’t. Please don’t let anyone’s misinterpretation discourage you from reading it. If you’re secure in your faith, nothing is going to shake that.

Thanks for Your Courage
TD,

Thaks for the call to dignity...it does matter.

Tim

Ignorance is joy
and these bible thumpers sure must be joyful now!

It's so obvious they are sheep, and that none of them have actually read the book, and that includes Norris himself.

Norris said," Like most self-help spiritual texts of this type, it is a blend of half-truths and half-fabrications. One easily could save the purchase price of "A New Earth" -- and subsequently avoid its misleading remarks -- by reading the Bible, which gives a much more thorough and accurate picture of life's purpose and the methods for overcoming its obstacles."

Were that true, then the web event that Oprah had wouldn't have attracted as many people, nor would the book be so popular. It seems to me that those who love to thump their Bibles are really being seen as they are: noisy gongs and clanging cymbals. Especially when their flock leaders like Haggard, Latham, Privette, Barnes, Aldridge, Swaggert, Baker, and Roberts, let alone the noisy Robertson and Hagee with their lies and bigotry, are the examples we have to go by. How can we expect the sheep to be any better than the flock? The evidence is this self-righteous criticism of something they never read.

The worst part is those assuming than the rest of us actually believe the Bible is true based on it's own claim. Considering the historical, scientific, and textual contradictions and variations, I wouldn't care to make such an assumption, or that it's author is omniscient or omnipotent since the original copies haven't survived. We humans Americans have preserved our secular Constitution for a longer time than any original Bible manuscripts survived.

I wonder if some day the sheep might want to stop being animals and act like the humans they are?

Tolle & Oprah
When I read what Tolle said about being right and how it is a form of violence I was liberated.

Ranting and raving, here on the internet or as so many television personalities do, fits perfectly into Shakespeare's description "the voice of an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing"

When Jesus said to his followers "heaven is amongst you" what did that mean? Until I listened to Tolle I did not understand most of what I read in the bible. Now it makes perfect sense.

Now I am free of having to be right about my position and I am free of the world. In the now there is room for peace and joy.

Thank you Mr. Tolle

A word to the last few blog comments on here...defending Tolle

Yes, I've read Tolle's book and there is nothing new in it. I'm from the sixties and we were saying the same thing back then... "Let it go...relax...don't worry about it...no one's right...no one's wrong....get over yourself..." Blah blah blah. Tolle just picked up and published what we were all living back then.

And as far as Tolle's cronies not getting to high and mighty, you're no better than the Bible thumpers (as you call them) on this site when you, in turn, put them down.

Take a SLOW READ through every reference Tolle makes about the institutional church or Christendom. He degrades it and puts it down as a monopolized authority over the Western mind! So what were you/he saying about being open and letting others "be" if they found truth?!

Give me a break.

SPIRITUALITY VS. RELIGION??
One more thought...Tolle's comments separating spirituality from religion is TOTAL semantics. You can slice it down any way you want, but he advocates spirituality as a religion. So when the above comments say he doesn't advocate religion, that is hog wash! This is NOT a simple psycho-babble self help book--Tolle advocates in the subtitle to help you discover "the purpose for life." That's a religious thought! AGain, I've read the book and it's very clear from the references to Hinduism, Buddhism, mystical Islam, he is clearly not talking about cooking!

Carol,

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Well at least we agree on one thing…it’s not a cookbook.

You said: “Take a SLOW READ through every reference Tolle makes about the institutional church or Christendom. He degrades it and puts it down as a monopolized authority over the Western mind!”

Do you deny that man has not used religion to his own ends? Tolle uses examples to reinforce his theories concerning the ego…not to put down or anyway degrade religion. You must know that. He shows how religions are decisive, and gives examples (the crusades for one) to make his point. You say you read the book…then cite one example in context where he denigrates, or otherwise insults religion for that sake. You can’t because you read something into his words that’s not there.

More importantly and what you fail to mention, is that he devotes much of the book not to the divides that separate us, but to a common link between all the past prophets and religions, that somehow got lost over time.

You said: Tolle advocates in the subtitle to help you discover "the purpose for life." That's a religious thought!

According to whom? The author doesn’t make the assertion…and by definition it’s not. So who here interprets “the purpose of life” to be synonymous with “religious thought?” I’m aware of only one person.

You said: One more thought...Tolle's comments separating spirituality from religion is TOTAL semantics. You can slice it down any way you want, but he advocates spirituality as a religion

Show me! How anyone can infer that Tolle is preaching some form of the gospel…when he deliberately goes out of his way to explain otherwise simply amazes me.

The Truth
It is refreshing to see the truth and Jesus of the Bible clearly and uncompromisingly articulated and to hear from someone who has obviously taken the time to read the Scriptures and is able to refute religious fables (like the fantasies of Oprah and Tolle) and to comment intelligently and accurately regarding the true Jesus of the Bible. May the Lord continue to richly bless you Mr. Norris!

Hey Carol
if you read something like Tolle's book and come away with your conclusion, it only reveals the closed attitude going into it.

James Madison also pointed out that the church has never looked after the rights of man, so it's nothing new. And, you may recall, the inscription on the Jefferson Memorial, when read in it's full context, reveals that Jefferson identified religion as tyranny.

So I would say that Tolle is in good company, as well as correct in his hypothesis. Having spent 13 years as a charis-maniac funny-mentalist, I concur with his conclusions.

And I ask as well as INTHENOW: show me the semantical difference between religion and spirituality.

Good post, Chuck.
Quote:

Tolle notes that Jesus taught that the "kingdom of heaven" is already present on earth and can be experienced right now, but Tolle overlooks Jesus' teaching that one must be born again (by believing in him as the Son of God and Savior) to see that kingdom in the future.

End:

There can be truth in non-Christian religion and philosophy, but from a Biblical perspective, only when the atoning and resurrection work of Christ is applied to persons will they everlastingly inherit the Kingdom of God (Revelation 20).

Done
Almost everyone in this thread accuses Tolle of cherry-picking religion to his own ends, yet Mr. Norris and others here have done the same to his book.

The difference is, Tolle’s reasons were to show the religious divisions created by man over centuries of interpretations. Nothing new. He also, as previously mentioned highlights the universal truths (absolutes if you like) that were common among early philosophers and prophets. Again, nothing new. His conclusion, if I may, is that society, or the collective mind as he puts it, has strayed from the original intended meaning that Jesus and others like him taught.

Everyone here seems to ignore this…and I’ not sure why. Many of the good people posting here, including Mr. Norris have plucked quotes from Tolle and used them out of context (deliberately or not) to defend some kind of perceived threat to their religious beliefs. That reaction is understandable if the threat was real. However, this behavior is completely contrary to the book’s intention.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a Jew, Christian, Muslim, Hindu…or a godless pragmatic atheist. The main premise of the book HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION. Forgive the caps…but for Pete’s sake.

I’m done bashing my head up against this wall.

Tim

Oprah;s "easter" getting bigger
with over 1.5 million that have streamed it, and half as many signed up for the ten week course.

One poster here claimed that Jesus taught we must be born again. That phrase only appears three times in scripture, and I recall Jesus only said it once. Hardly makes for a teaching.

Considering the out of context uses of Tolle's words by Norris. and his having never read the book, I will take the Oprah truth before I take the Norris version, because apparently he can't handle the truth. He'd rather depend on hearsay and twist it, much like he does with revisionist history.

His movies are a joke, and his religion is a joke. Maybe he should be a comedian instead of trying to sell Total Gym.

ignorance is bliss
I share the view of Chuck Norris and the rest of the bloggers who are concerned and confused by Oprahs new Guru.

Oprah told a caller that she doesn't think Jesus came to start christianity-duh! Miss Winfreys spirituality seems to emphasize the power of the individual to define truth and reality.
God is the source of truth and our reality, not man!
New Agers are not in pursuit of God or in communion with Him.

It's crazy to cast the comparison of Eckhart Tolle as a Guru who will lead us to 'supreme consciousness' and Christ the Son of God.
Any true believer in Jesus will see that this teaching is in error.
Eckhart may lead us somewhere alright, not a place I care to end up in!

It was mentioned in an earlier post that the original fall of man came about in the Garden when he was told he could 'be like God'.

It is no coincidense that there are many christians who are up in arms over this silly uproar of OPRAH and another one of her books!

We must trust our insticts when something doesn't sound or feel right. God infuses His children with knowledge to discern good from bad.

I hope Oprahs viewers who are Christian realise that we already know the Way, the Truth and the Life.
His name is Jesus.

We don't need Oprah to lead us astray!

PROOF that Oprah is selling a RELIGION!
Just watched a video clip from the first couple weeks of Oprah-Tolle's 10-week spiritual journey to help the world! It's amazing (in a sick way). Question she is asked on this video is how she reconciles her "Christian" background and present adherence to Tolle doctrine. Couple classic quotes from Oprah's response... "God is jealous of me?" And "Christ came to bring us Christ conscienciousness." And Oprah's defenders on this blog have tried to state this quest of theirs is not religious! Unbelievable or maybe not so! Watch this 3 minutes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB4J1JpG_PA

Oprah's NOT selling religion??
If you think it's only "spirituality" Oprah's selling, then listen to her own words from the live seminar. INTHENOW (and friends)--watch it and weep! It's her "religion"! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB4J1JpG_PA

failure to communicate??
INTHENOW
You said that you are done, but perhaps you are not done reading... I read your points and see where you are coming from... and you have great points.... for the person who doesn't believe that eternal damnation is the consequence of death w/out the blood of Jesus covering your sin. This is the "Hard" way that Chuck talks about, and the "Narrow Way" that Jesus talked about. Jesus being The Only Way is our life ...

More simply put, we can't be "grey", or as Jesus put it "luke warm" on this issue. So when someone like Oprah says "Hey, just live and let live" we know that idea may sound fine for this life, but it's end is destruction. I can't let my neighbor who is an atheist "just live" without telling them that I have some incredible life giving news for them... and that there is eternal life! If they don't take this gift, the end is destruction. That would be like the parent who doesn't dicipline their child b/c they don't want the child to hate them. The child may have fun for a while, but they're gonna end up in horrible shape in the end. That's not love. And This is "hard".

I'll give another C.S. Lewis quote on Christianity to further and better illustrate this point: "Here is the door. behind which, according to some people, the secret of the universe is waiting for you. Either that's true, or it isn't. And if it isn't, then what that door really conceals is simply the greatest fraud, the most colossal "sell" on record. Isn't it obviously the job of every man (that is a man and not a rabbit) to try and find out which, and then devote his full energies either to serving this tremendous secret or to exposing and destroying this gigantic humbug?"

Hope that clears things up a bit. ~

Gonzo
As I read your posts, and saw how informed and knowledgeable you are about Christians, and how angry you are with them, it made me very sad. Before you wrote that you used to be involved and practiced Christianity, I knew that you must have been there before.

I also surmised that you are ticked at the hypocrisy you've seen. But just remember, we're all hypocrites, and those who are in the spotlight are no different than me, fallible. That's why we need a Savior. The Bible tells us that more than anyone. But Jesus is not fallible, and His Word is not, as you said it is, fallible. Trust me, I've had lots of ppl try and prove that to me, and they just can't.

So whomever, and whatever happened to you that made you so angry and/or hurt, I am sorry, truly sorry. I have been there. But just know that there is that Holy Trinity you once believed and trusted in, and He is "the same, yesterday, today and forever." and that also means that He still loves you.

HTH. Peace and Blessings.

Oprah's "NEW WORLD"
It seems that not only is Oprah supporting the anti-Christ for President, she wants us to buy into HER beliefs that Christ was not the son of God and that there are more ways to reach Heaven than through Jesus. I feel sorry for her and all the many souls her babble will cause to remain lost. If you want spiritual guidence, read God's Word, read the Bible, and find a translation that you can actually grasp and understand for yourself. Your enternal salvation is too important to leave to someone who has a cult-like following----Jesus is the only way! God Bless all of you and may He help us all find His Truth.

One Way To Heaven (Now and Eternity)
The Truth is hard, it is not easy for us to follow. The way is simple but for us as humans it is difficult to let go of the control in our lives to follow the Truth. Jesus said " I am the way, the truth, and the light. No one comes to the Father (God) but by me." There is no other path. Accept God's Word as a whole or do not accept it. It is our choice. God is not the puppetmaster. We have a mind, a will of our own but when we have an encounter with Jesus Christ and become "born-again" we give our life to God the Father, God the Son(Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. For those who are confused about the Trinity, let me give you an example. I am Me. But I am also a mother and a daughter. I am still Me but I function in different roles. I choose to surrender my life (mind, will and emotions) the flesh soulish side of me to the new creation (spirit) I have become by accepting Jesus as my personal Savior. I choose to come under the authority of Jesus Christ and to adhere to and follow his word. Am I always successful? No Do I want to sometimes put aside what He wants for me to do what I want for me? Yes Do I sometimes do this? Yes Why because I am a sinner who is saved by grace and I make mistakes. I am not perfect. But the price has been paid for my sins. One who loves me beyond measure and know all of my mistakes and my weakness and yet He still loves me and forgives me of my screw ups. He convicts us to do right. He does not condemn us for we do wrong.contd

continued
Does my relationship with Jesus make me perfect? No aferall I am still a human being living in an imperfect world. A previous writer talks about the "Big " falls from religion. But these people are just that people who gave in to the snares of the enemy when they took their eyes off the Lord. Christians do bear some weight in the bad wrap we have received from the world. We think we are expected to "look and act" perfect, have no troubles, etc. So we portray ourselves to be perfect when we are not. We do not share our woes or shortcomings and we therefore can not share our victory of overcoming thru Jesus , because what would people think of us as Christians if they they knew we make mistakes and have problems. We have pride and sometimes self-righteous attitudes. But thank God,literally, we have Jesus. Not just the knowledge of who He is. I have Jesus living inside of me through the Holy Spirit. I have a desire in my born-again spirit to get to know the very nature of who Christ is. We can say we are born-again but with out a personal encounter with Jesus the Christ we are just like every one else. To know Jesus is to love Him, to love Him is to obey Him and His word. But do not just stop there let the power of the Holy Spirit flow from you to reach out to others so that they may see Jesus in you so they have a desire to know Him. Will all of this make you perfect? No and especially not to those of the world. But because He is perfect and righteous, I am presented before the Father perfect and righteous. I strive every day to get the know my Heavenly Father more and more. My desire is not to look inside myself and create my own "world" and my "own path". I have been on that road of doing it my way and my way has not always been so rewarding. I choose to follow Jesus. I have been immensely blessed. contd

continued
Before I had a form of religion and I tolerated nothing. Now I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and I can love people from all walks of life. God's word has absolutes and hard truths, "but our fight is not with flesh and blood, but with powers and principalites and all wicked things that seat themselves in high places" It is possible to love the person and despise the powers that use that person. Will I be mocked and condemned for my beliefs? Yes, Jesus was. As a true believer we share not only in the blessings of God but we also share in the suffering for His names sake. I do not expect the world to get any better. If it did then there would be no reason for the second coming of Jesus Christ. I do expect to hopefully impact as many people as I can for the Kingdom of God. Not through"loud clanging, judgement or criticism" but through example. Jesus' greatest commandments 1st "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all soul and with all your strenth and the second I liken to the 1st Love your neighbor as you love yourself." We called not to judge men but to judge their fruit. (fruits of the spirit) Not what they do in the public eye but what they do behing closed doors when they think no one is looking. Look for Jesus, follow that inner voice you call a concious when deciding to do right or wrong. It just may be Jesus calling out to you. As believers we are not promised a "new earth" as depicted here in these blogs. We can have heaven on earth but only through Jesus Christ, not only in this life but in the one yet to come. May the blessings of the Lord be upon you.

Oprah has finally shown her true colors.
Oprah's finally shown herself to be a false prophet. I am very thankful that someone of your stature has spoken up and cast light on her beliefs. I just pray that millions of people will wake up and realize who she stands for before it's too late.

How Do We Want To Be Known?
This following hymn is over 30 years old, but it could have been written this morning. I love what it says: we'll be recognized as Christians -- true disciples of Jesus -- not by our rhetoric or our politics or even the soundness of our
theology, but by our love.

Written by Peter Scholtes

They’ll Know We Are Christians by Our Love

We are one in the Spirit,
We are one in the Lord
We are one in the Spirit,
we are one in the Lord,
And we pray that all unity
may one day be restored.

And they’ll know we are Christians
by our love, by our love,
And they’ll know we are Christians
by our love.

We will walk with each other,
We will walk hand in hand.
We will walk with each other,
We will walk hand in hand.
And together we’ll spread the news
That God is in the land.

We will work with each other,
We will work side by side.
We will work with each other,
We will work side by side.
And we’ll guard each man’s dignity
and save each man’s pride.

All praise to the Father, from whom all things come.
And all praise to Christ Jesus, His only Son.
And all praise to the Spirit who makes us one.

Only through accepting Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior could I ever have hoped to be with the Father. God is love. I know this because I felt this love on March 15, 1999 when Jesus Christ came into my heart even though He still gave me a choice as to who I'll follow. I live for Jesus because He died for me.

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." Matthew 23:37-40

I love you!

Oprah Needs Our Prayer
Good Morning,

I have called T.D. Jakes and left a message with one of his staff that the Bishop needs to contact Oprah and pull her back to the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Wouldn't it be a nice thing if some other folks would do the same. But, the best thing we can do is to pray for Oprah's forgiveness.

If Oprah and Brittany were both brought back to the Lord, think of the harvest they would reap!

Jeannie O

Really Chuck???
When I need tips on working my abs...Chuck is my man, Otherwise...what the heck? Tolles message is certainly not new. Perhaps scary to those who really don't feel the need to understand anyones else point of view, but to blindly follow what everyones else "believes". Not so sound like my mother, but if Chuck Norris jumped off a cliff, would all of you?
I believe that the phrase "marketed so easily" was used. How many "Christian" book stores do you see driving down the street. There are 800 numbers to call to give your money...even states it in the "bible" that you must give your money to show reverance. Now THAT IS MARKETING!!! Lets tell everyone Jesus said to give money!!
We as humans used to believe that the Earth was flat. The practice of slavery was mentioned in the "Bible" as well. Were either of these things correct or good things? I guess that depends on who you ask! My point is this, If you decide to listen and try and understand what Tolle is saying...NOT AGREE...JUST LISTEN. Or blindly follow anyone who spews the mainstream and what has been spoon fed to the masses....both are entitled to their opinions.

Absolute Truth
There is absolute truth. Truth is not subjective. Oprah has turned her back on her Christian background and she is leading thousands of people astray and by so doing she is condemning herself.

John 14:16

I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Matthew 18:6

But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Luke 9:62

But Jesus said to him, "No one having put his hand to the plwe and looking back is fit for the Kingdom of God."

I agree with Chuck. It is a sad state that Oprah has turned her back on her first love. If you have heard any interviews with her or read any of her biographies she states that she accepted Christ as a child. She grew up in a Baptist home. She is now not only turning her back on that truth she is consciously leading others astray. The worldwide church community needs to be in prayer for her. If anyone on this planet needs to be brought back into the fold of Christ....it's her.

Oprah-Smurfa!
I have long had my doubts about Oprah, and recently have discovered what a charlatan she really is! I heard her in an interview recently where she misquoted the Holy Bible! A book that has been around for thousands of years! I pity the poor ignorant beings that she is condemning to the nether world. I refuse to watch her show (and it has never been one that I do watch). With all her money why doesn't she help the poor black girls in the USA? Has she not heard that charity begins at home?!!
I, on the other hand, admire Chuck Norris for coming forward to unveil Oprah's deceitful gospel of "how to live a better life"! Obviously, the Nashville girl did not hang out with the good guys when she lived there! I pity her, all her MONEY is going to sink her...THERE is her god!

The Truth - 100% Agreement
As the subject says, I'm in 100% agreement. I hate to see this happen, however. I just don't see how Oprah, a woman that grew up as a Christian and knows what the Bible says is true can just walk away and not only promote, but follow this new "religion." Oprah, Tolle, and the millions of followers they have gathered will be in my prayers and hopefully the prayers of others too.

Arrogance that divides the world
Wow, Chuck. How are you, a martial arts actor, so absolutely 100% certain that you are 100% right and so many diligent and devoted Christians are 100% wrong in their interpretations of the Bible? I'm curious how your divisive judgement of other Christians is consistent with Jesus' teaching. Motes, logs, judge not others, etc. How about being a tad more tentative and humble, eh?

Why incite hatred, Chuck?
I totally respect your right to have your own beliefs, Chuck. But inciting Christians to hate and judge and damn other Christians - and in effect to not respect others' equivalent rights to form their own beliefs? Who does that really serve? Your ego?

I appreciate that you don't "get" what Tolle is saying. Others do. Is that a problem for you?

Oprah's New Easter
I admire and respect Chuck Norris for his stand on this issue. A real man expresses his faith in God and his love of Jesus Christ. What a sad commentary on today's times, when an actress who becomes a business woman who becomes a talk show host can have so much influence over so many people. Oprah will stand before the only God there is someday and account for all that she has done to lead people astray. She will know then, without any doubt, what the truth really is. Jesus left no room for doubt when He said, "No man comes to the Father but by Me." He did not allow any room for any other way. Thank you Chuck for making a stand.

seeker of truth
Great commentary Mr. Norris! It is important for people to find out what they believe...and to research the facts. C.S. Lewis has written some amazing books addressing these very issues. I have every confidence that God hears a true seeker of truth. He will reveal Himself to an open heart. Thanks for your comments.

Oprah/Chuck Norris
I would like to challenge each of you that agree with Mr. Norris to write Oprah a letter and tell exactly what you think of her "New Age" religion. I have.

People will always be divided.
I am a christian and a follower of Jesus Christ. You know I think Chuck is right for standing up for what he believes in and so do I. But the Bible tells us that there will always be people who will "see" but never believe. The followers of Oprah have they eyes and minds blinded because they are seeking for peace and happiness but just not in the right place. I think instead of bashing we need to pray for these people. God has told us in His word to pray without ceasing and maybe that will turn some of these peoples minds to the truth. And as for world peace, there never will be world peace. not until the day of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!!

The TRUE way to God
The only true way to God & heaven is through His Son Jesus Christ. The bible tells us this. Repent, ask for forgiveness & you shall be "saved" by His grace!! We must pray without ceasing for these people. Like we pray for ALL the lost! Then & only then with God's Holy Spirit touching them will they see & hear the truth. I agree with "Julie" 100%. World peace will NEVER come until our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ does!!

THE TRUE WAY?
Why do Christians fear other Christians who interpret the Bible slightly differently have such fear of those who do not agree 100% with what they believe? It is my understanding that there are many interpretations ofparts of the Bible-even the authors do not agree with each other totally. What makes the beliefs of one correct, false or partly true/false?
Is there not also a versse that says....let he who has no sin (or perfect) cast the first stone?
Why are so many of us so judgemental? I prefer to leave the Judging to God.
I know different kinds of Christians and do not believe in attacking them in any way. Should not searchers of TRUTH not be allowed to question what one person or group believes in order to find their way?
I have not felt that Oprah is trying to start a new religion-I think she is still 'searching' as are many professed Christians. I do not fear others opinions or beliefs because I believe in a just and loving God. He gave us free will so that we may find him in our own way.

Chuck Norris on Oprah's New Age junk
Amen, Chuck! I am so glad to know that I'm not the only one out here defending the faith from the New Age junk being promoted by Oprah! I have been fighting this stuff for more than 3 years now, when she began promoting "The Secret"/Law of Attraction junk on her show. Both Esther Hicks and Gloria Wapnick are spirit mediums who have channeled spirit "guides" who gave them these priniciples for their teachings. Christians who fall into the trap of thinking this stuff is reconcilable with Christianity need to go back and reread John 14:6; 1 Corinthians 10:21; and 1 Timothy 4:1, 2! I am also covering this stuff in-depth at my website: http://www.freewebs.com/wwwsoundnessofmindcom. The name of my ministry is Freedom Beacon Ministries and it is for the purpose of helping people come out of cults and to steer clear of other dangerous false doctrines. Thanks again, Chuck! Love ya.

OPRAH'S NEW RELIGION ...
From spending several years in Jeremiah Wright's anti-American racist church, listening to sermons like "God Damn America", and giving life time achievement awards to the likes of Louis Farrakhan ... to her newest nut job beliefs ... who could possibly take Oprah seriously? I think it's time for America to deny Oprah access to our television sets.

OPRAH IS NOT MY GOD
Who is Oprah? She is not God... Why in the hell would I follow her teachings - HELLO....I agree with Howard I think that it is time for America to deny Oprah access to our television sets.

Thank you for speaking up Chuck Norris.
Thank you Carlos for speaking up. It is men like you that God has raised to to carry a banner that many have let downl. Praise God someone has the nerve to speak openly about the truth of God's word and the deception of Oprah. Oprah needs deliverance from herself. This is a cult from hell and if Oprah does not repent, she is going to spend eternity there and is the culprit for many that will follow her damnable ways.
