Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

WASHINGTON -- Forget the pork. Forget the waste. Forget the 8,570 earmarks in a bill supported by a president who poses as the scourge of earmarks. Forget the "$2 trillion dollars in savings" that "we have already identified," $1.6 trillion of which President Obama's budget director later admits is the "savings" of not continuing the surge in Iraq until 2019 -- 11 years after George Bush ended it, and eight years after even Bush would have had us out of Iraq completely.

Forget all of this. This is run-of-the-mill budget trickery. True, Obama's tricks come festooned with strings of zeros tacked onto the end. But that's a matter of scale, not principle.

All presidents do that. But few undertake the kind of brazen deception at the heart of Obama's radically transformative economic plan, a rhetorical sleight of hand so smoothly offered that few noticed.

The logic of Obama's address to Congress went like this:

"Our economy did not fall into decline overnight," he averred. Indeed, it all began before the housing crisis. What did we do wrong? We are paying for past sins in three principal areas: energy, health care, and education -- importing too much oil and not finding new sources of energy (as in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Outer Continental Shelf?), not reforming health care, and tolerating too many bad schools.

The "day of reckoning" has now arrived. And because "it is only by understanding how we arrived at this moment that we'll be able to lift ourselves out of this predicament," Obama has come to redeem us with his far-seeing program of universal, heavily nationalized health care; a cap-and-trade tax on energy; and a major federalization of education with universal access to college as the goal.

Amazing. As an explanation of our current economic difficulties, this is total fantasy. As a cure for rapidly growing joblessness, a massive destruction of wealth, a deepening worldwide recession, this is perhaps the greatest non sequitur ever foisted upon the American people.

At the very center of our economic near-depression is a credit bubble, a housing collapse and a systemic failure of the entire banking system. One can come up with a host of causes: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pushed by Washington (and greed) into improvident loans, corrupted bond-ratings agencies, insufficient regulation of new and exotic debt instruments, the easy money policy of Alan Greenspan's Fed, irresponsible bankers pushing (and then unloading in packaged loan instruments) highly dubious mortgages, greedy house-flippers, deceitful homebuyers.

The list is long. But the list of causes of the collapse of the financial system does not include the absence of universal health care, let alone of computerized medical records. Nor the absence of an industry-killing cap-and-trade carbon levy. Nor the lack of college graduates. Indeed, one could perversely make the case that, if anything, the proliferation of overeducated, Gucci-wearing, smart-ass MBAs inventing ever more sophisticated and opaque mathematical models and debt instruments helped get us into this credit catastrophe in the first place.

And yet with our financial house on fire, Obama makes clear both in his speech and his budget that the essence of his presidency will be the transformation of health care, education and energy. Four months after winning the election, six weeks after his swearing in, Obama has yet to unveil a plan to deal with the banking crisis.

What's going on? "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste," said Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. "This crisis provides the opportunity for us to do things that you could not do before."

Things. Now we know what they are. The markets' recent precipitous decline is a reaction not just to the absence of any plausible bank rescue plan, but also to the suspicion that Obama sees the continuing financial crisis as usefully creating the psychological conditions -- the sense of crisis bordering on fear-itself panic -- for enacting his "Big Bang" agenda to federalize and/or socialize health care, education and energy, the commanding heights of post-industrial society.

Clever politics, but intellectually dishonest to the core. Health, education and energy -- worthy and weighty as they may be -- are not the cause of our financial collapse. And they are not the cure. The fraudulent claim that they are both cause and cure is the rhetorical device by which an ambitious president intends to enact the most radical agenda of social transformation seen in our lifetime.

Obama's string
Although they speak of the one-two punch in boxing, they have nothing on the POTUS. He continues to attack our nation, not permitting us to fully digest and discuss the impacts of his most recent pronouncements before he hits us with new and more outrageous ideas.
Our senses are numbed.
Our only hope is that the current 535 residents of DC want to keep their jobs after the next election and they could only do so if they rein in the Executive branch

So What
All this talk won't solve anything. We need to start a movement to hold the president and congress accountable.

In our lifetime?
How about since the founding?

Bonnie and Clyde !

That SLICK OBAMA couple are Bonnie and Clyde, robbing us of our:

Obama morality?
Well, this article certainly lays it out to see what flim-flam obama is running. He knows nothing of what is going on- what the problem is or how to fix and doesn't care-- It is an opportunity - to do as he wishes.
I personally believe he will destroy America. We'll be back to the old days. The life of 'you're on your own'. We'll be defending what little we have from roving bands of thieves. And if Obama gets some bills passed, like HR45, we'll be defending our small life from the government.
But the liberals of this country wanted this.. WHY??

Mr Krauthammer
You seem to be telling us that what is currently going on is to you a great surprise.

Where were you during the campaign? His current agenda was spelled out in sufficient detail that only the deaf, dumb and mute could miss the implications to our way of life.

Wendy - Clooney to the Sudan
--
Writes Wendy (aghast):

"Yesterday, Obama floated a trial balloon on Politico of appointing George Clooney as the U.S. envoy to Sudan after meeting with him."

Hey, there's much to commend this.

For one, while serving in such a gormless capacity, Clooney won't be making movies.

For another, while stuck in that Allah-forsaken place, he might get killed.

Can you get *anything* more of a "win-win" situation these days?

(( Well, Algore shoved down a mineshaft in rural Pennsylvania with a gross of rabid weasels and a carboy of butyl mercaptan dumped all over him certainly would qualify, but I gave up believing in Santa Claus a long time ago. ))

"To politicians, solved problems represent a dire threat — of unemployment and poverty. That's why no problem ever tackled by the government has ever been solved. What they want is lots of problems they can promise to solve, so that we'll keep electing them — or letting them keep their jobs in a bureaucracy metastasizing like cancer."

Obama Deception and French socialism
As always, Charles is fabulous. I don't believe that anyone is surprised about the Obama politics but what is surprising is his passion for a social agenda at the expense of the econimic health of this nation. Even more frustrating however is the lack of action from the politcal center and right of this country. We all email, share articles, read conservative columnists, watch cable and listen to radio and do nothing. Just weeks into this new administration we are already at the "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more" level of frustration but just what is it that we can do?? What's the action plan Charles?

RUSH IS RIGHT
Rush is always right, he sure has the dumocraps scared to death, all they can think about or talk about is RUSH. Its a good thing that there isnt anything else going on in our country thats more important than a talk show host. Its good to see the MSM working again.

Mr. Krauthammer,
I think Black Hole Agenda is a more fitting description, sucking everything that is good about our country into its blackness and we will never be able to escape. Unless God has mercy on us.

Lady's Big Handbag Agenda

Dr. CK, I agree with your article, but your title is incorrect. Instead of calling Obama's agenda the Big Bang, it should be the Lady's Big Handbag Agenda.

As a woman, I know handbags. As a fashionista, I REALLY know handbags and the thing about them is that they act in an inverse manner relative to that which you would expect. When a woman has a small handbag, she is forced to keep the most important things in it and keep it manageable; however, the bigger the handbag, the more crap gets put into it. And, the more crap that gets put into the handbag, the more difficult it is to find anything and for it to have a functionally, productive usefulness. The more unruly, the more unlikely anything is found.

If you look at the economy alone, you can see how the Lady's Big Handbag Agenda is distracting the Administration from what is most critical. While Obama is talking about green energy, the chicken little "global warming" nonsense, cap and trade, and healthcare, the Treasury Department is not even up and running. If we don't get the banks in order so that lending can resume, we will continue to see increases in foreclosures, unemployment, business closings, and bankruptcies. Further, as long as these all exist, the side dishes are irrelevant and impossible to fund.

Two Imperatives For Success: K.I.S.S. & Keep Your Eye On The Ball.

The circus and the orgies
Also today, that daft actor Brad Pitt met with Nancy Psychosi, Reid, Obama, the Secretary of Energy Chu, and I believe one other Cabinet official. He propagandized them with the supposed merits of the "green" homes he is building in the Ninth Ward in New Orleans as part of his heartfelt do-gooding for good PR. The exact "substance" of the meeting was not given, but it is fair to conclude that we were simply witnessing another pig feed at the bailout trough, as his charity model has been widely ridiculed as economically unviable and his architectural model as impractical. Between the donations and his pledges, there does not seem to be enough money to build all his houses. (But what's a few million more to a Congresswoman when you have already thrown away trillions, plus you can get a photo-op and autograph and brag about meeting the aging actor to your equally insipid descendants? Psychosi could barely contain the girlish glee on her botoxed face).

Irony alert: This actor's last stinker of a movie, the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which was reviewed very negatively on this web site, received millions of dollars from the state of Louisiana to film there, and has yet to turn a profit. Pitt reportedly made tens of millions of dollars for it.

It was very telling to note the inverted red triangle and the severe down tick on the stock market indices on the bottom right corner of the screen during the Psychosi-Pitt press conference.

It was very much like a scene out of Atlas Shrugged.

Tick tock, tick tock.

Obamamania Is Too Much Like Religion
Jack David offers, "Obama is just imitating the masters, Churchill and his "student," GWB. The great Brit reportedly said (source: daughter) that "the truth is such a precious stone that it has to be surrounded and guarded by a 'bodyguard' of lies." (The quotation is from memory of an interview with Churchill offspring.)"

Are you out of your mind? You are using a hearsay quote from a daughter working from memory that makes no sense to demonstrate that Obama is normal when it comes to lying.

This is so convoluted and twisted, that one would need a map to figure it out.

You are trying too hard to justify Obama's nonsense. You would be better off just stealing from a familiar bumper sticker, "Obama said it, I beleive it, That's it".

May Obama Go With You.

By the way, when you see your master, ask him, "Please Obama, Set Our Markets Free!"

President Hamlet
http://www.weeklystandard.com/content/public/articles/000/0 00/016/213scmae.asp

"[President Hamlet] hit the ground delegating. As he said last week, "as soon as I took office, I asked this Congress to send me a recovery plan by President's Day."...

Hamlet is obsessed with finding and playing a role--and uncertain that he is quite up to the task. Such is the Obama we have watched for the first 40 days. For Hamlet, the role he must play is rather simple: He does not expect to combine in himself the qualities of Lincoln and Roo-sevelt, as our unenviable president does. Hamlet only has to be an avenger...

Hamlet's trajectory describes exactly what is unique about Obama's pathway to power--what he didn't do. Most young men of Obama's generation with presidential yearnings have tried putting their hands on the steering wheel of a smaller vehicle, like an attorney-generalship. A state AG's office is an excellent place to practice the swordsmanship that a president needs...In his books he rehearsed a vision of himself as leader, solving problems with ease that no one had ever solved before. And the key to leadership, he discovered in his very first autobiography, was not the exercise of authority but the telling of stories."

Vicki, as Jack David, suggested, President Obama is imitating a master ... he is playing President Hamlet!

imitating the masters
Jack David writes:
"Obama is just imitating the masters"

Would someone pleas tell him to imitate the masters that created this (once) great country. People like George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin and so on.

We are ruled by psychotic narcissists
The Democrats have more important things to do than worry about saving the economy: Namely, they have to worry about hobnobbing and picture taking and press conferencing with insipid, parasitic Hollywood actors.

Yesterday, Obama floated a trial balloon on Politico of appointing George Clooney as the U.S. envoy to Sudan after meeting with him. It naturally went over like a lead balloon and raised all sorts of questions in the comments section, and I haven't heard a peep about it since. The story was subsequently removed from their web site and their search function. They do this kind of thing often, as their gossip is notoriously unreliable, but other, more obscure web sites such as entertainment web sites should have picked up the story that day, and it should have entered the search engine results.

But the standard search engines yielded no such results. They do list results pertaining to Clooney's recent lobbying of Obama to create said U.S. envoy to Sudan position. They also list results pertaining to Clooney's U.N. Messenger of Peace position as an "envoy" position, which would confuse some.

I have noticed that anything negative connected with the U.N. often disappears from the Internet, or at least from the search results. This is the third random subject associated with the U.N. for which this phenomenon has happened to me. I am not inclined to paranoia or conspiracy theories, but the logical explanation seems to be that the U.N., which contains member regimes with extensive censorship skills, is doing this on a routine basis.

The really scary thing is, I still don't know if the administration plans to sneak in a Clooney appointment or not; there was a junket on Politico today warning the ladies not to expect Clooney to move into their D.C. neighborhood. (?)

Guarding Bush's lie
Jack David, I love this quote because it is so real. One truth is always surrounded by numerous lies. "the truth is such a precious stone that it has to be surrounded and guarded by a 'bodyguard' of lies."

It appears the many statements below go against the above statement assigned to Churchill. It seems Bush's lie was surrounded and guarded by a bodyguard of many democrat lies.

++++++++++++++

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them." - Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..." - Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." - President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." - Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

shubi, the thing about nuts
is that they have as much power as they are given. A narcissist is a well-tended plant; enabled by many until able to surround themselves with enablers. I never tangle with sociopaths, narcissists, antisocials, etc... I just teach people how to recognize and interact (or avoid interacting) with them.

Imitating the Masters
Obama is just imitating the masters, Churchill and his "student," GWB. The great Brit reportedly said (source: daughter) that "the truth is such a precious stone that it has to be surrounded and guarded by a 'bodyguard' of lies." (The quotation is from memory of an interview with Churchill offspring.)

George Bush admired Winston and had a fine bust of him in the Oval Office--which Barack not surprisingly chose not to keep.

Now comes Obama, too, with his "lies." In a way, Obama's lies are not unlike Bush's "lies" used to get us into Iraq. In fact, Churchill's daughter may have been talking about, opining about, our rationale for Iraq--when she offered that gem of a quotation from her father or grandfather. "The truth is so precious..."

Obama is nothing if not a good student.

The invasion of Iraq--and I was for it, following Thomas Friedman--had many, many compelling motivations. The literary critics of Homer's "Iliad" speak of the "overdetermined" nature of a scene or event. The attack, let's say, was determined by many, many, overlapping factors: the will of the gods, the will of the human heroes with their incentives of honor, ambition, justice, whatever. OVERDETERMINED, say the critics.

Well, Iraq, too, was OVERDETERMINED.

And now, under Barack, the Recovery is OVERDETERMINED: (the "reasons" include: energy, health, education, etc)

I had no idea our prez has been studying Homer in addition to everything else!

But that is what "Hamlet" does--he studies. He's a professional student! (See the recent Weekly Standard--for an "invention" about Obama--as Hamlet--that would make Nietzsche proud, all the more so for the grain of truth in it!)

We indeed wrestle not against flesh and blood, but powers and principalities. Do you suppose O cannot function without a teleprompter because he so... occupied that he cannot have a thought that is his own? Communist Manifesto
“1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.

...
====================

Years ago I worked with a man who was raised in the USSR. He was in fact a Captain in the Soviet Army.

His job was working as kind of a security man in Siberia...Bottom line he carried a rifle.

He told me he actually went hunting for Tiger's in Siberia.

I ask him if they actually had hunting seasons in the USSR??

To which he smiled and said, no, they would have executed me if they would have caught me shooting a Tiger. Cause it was on a hunting preserve reserved exclusively for memebers of the communist party.

Sounds like an America I would want to imagine.

First David Brooks, Now Steve Chapman
Brooks(NY Times), Chapman (Chi. Tribune) has finally gotten it and have belatedly written that Super o is not super as the media with the tannish noses wrote about, oh such a short time ago. Folks, I think we've got a Potemkin Village here, o is all front and no substance. When we are sitting around, counting our worthless fiat money and trying to see if a pound of banknotes will buy a loaf of bread, we can thank this 3 Trillion Dollar jerk.

Thanks Mr. Krauthammer
Wonderful and appropriately scary article. Scary President with a really scary agenda. It's sort of like pulling into a gas station with 4 flat tires and the mechanic tells you the problem is the engine!

Somehow this must make sense to Democrats but it sure sounds CRAZY to me. God Bless America. There is no Freedom in this agenda.

BEN @

I also did the math and Obama's figures for the number of medially related bankruptcies and they are like Pelosi 500 Million Americans that are losing jobs each month.
On Glenn Beck's show today, he interviewed a Doctor who charges a $79 flat fee per month to his patients and said the government is against him doing this. He has 500 patients who participate in this plan and it saves his office a of lot paper work each month with insurance companies claims and/or medicare paperwork.

Another comment about healthcare. In the county I live in we pay a hospital tax included in our property tax. This tax pays for a hospital which provides care for those without insurance nor the means to pay, plus illegals are provided services there. These hospitals provide the same care as the private hospitals. I was wondering with a national healthcare system would we still pay this in addition to what Obama proposes? In addition to that we will have the government telling doctors who and how we can be treated.

I have friends in the UK who complain all the time about their socialized healthcare system, and a doctor I met in Canada who said the American medical system is better than the Canadians' healthcare. So what gives here? More government in our lives and a worse health care system !

Is there any further doubt...
...about Obama's true agenda?

During the campaign, Obama, his henchmen, and his media cheerleaders universaly derided conservative warnings about the direction Obama would take this country if elected.

Conservative claims of Obama's socialist agenda were dismissed as exagerated hysterics.

Well, flip to today. Obama is in for less than two months and already he makes no pretense as to what he intends - a complete and immediate conversion from free-market economy to full Euro-style state-managed socialism.

Those who provided the country with assurances that Obama had no such intentions must now either be classified as complicit Marxist revolutionaries just like Mr & Mrs Obama, or the recklessly gullible enablers of national collapse that they are.

Obama = Stupidity Incarnate
When it comes to managing a national economy, Obama makes Mugabe of Zimbabwe look like Milton Friedman.

With Obama at he helm, this nation is on a collison course with economic ruin.

Dick,

"Obama thinks and indeed believes that the American public is stupid, gullable and naive not to see his charade to amass politcial power and personal power by leveraging a crisis to his own ends."

He got elected, didn't he?

OBAMBI IN ELITE COMPANY

.....OBAMBI is about to join the other dynamic black leaders MANDELLA & MUGABI who led their countries into economic ruin and socialism .....COLOSSUS

Obama's foolish statement of "fact"
Barack Hussien Obama said today that the high cost of medical care is "responsible for one personal bankruptcy every 30 seconds in America." (God, I cringe every time I hear him utter that word..."Amurca."

Folks, that is 1,051,000 per year. The TOTAL personal bankrupt filings for the year 2008 were 1,086,130.

So, from this we can conclude that the country is more sound that it has been in over 100 years, save for that pesky medical problem! I mean, just look at those numbers, would ya?

A mere 34,930 non medically caused bankruptcies all across these great United States! That is ONE filing for every 8761 people in the US! (I came up with these figures on my own...sound of me patting my back.)

Will his absurd comment appear on NBC, CBS, ABC et al tonight? No way. If Bush had said something 1/100 as stupid, it would be the lead-in. Why can't more people see thru the charade that is the liberal media? I mean, people posting on here, who are probably reasonably intelligent, seem HONESTLY not to realize how ludicrously bent everything in the MSM is, while also believing Rush, and those of his ilk, TRULY are as depicted by the these same scalawags.

Makes not a blooming bit o' sense to this heah country boy!

PS Some spokesperson for the intelligentsia (otherwise known as O's Minions)tried to downplay it by saying regardless of the exact figures, our medical care is a disaster. Well, hell's bells, so it's OK for POTUS to simply chuck up any ole thing that comes to mind, eh?

TAXES AND OBAMA

Reagan was dealt a very bad hand: double-digit unemployment, over 15% interest rates for a home and a big, bad bear of an enemy lurking behind an iron curtain and causing havoc all over the world.

Reagan pared back the government and let the market heal itself, naturally. Then, set about taking care of the bear. Well done, all around.

By the way, Reagan never once pointed to his predecessor or his Administration for any blame or fault. He just did his job.

Of course, that was before we had a cry-baby for President that can't even handle a private citizen without a runny nose. Somebody give him a hanky! It's embarrassing! Putin has got to be laughing!

Thank-you Mr. Krauthammer
Yours was a very timely and piercing column.

your messiah
i'm going to assume that was suppose to be humorous...it wasn't.
his being black/mulatto/whatever has nothing to do with the fact that when presented with earmarks 8,570 to be exact he somehow forgot he was the messiah and became just a man...a typical politician and a liar.

what our messiah requires
it seems the real problem going on right now is that the basic racism prevalant in america is starting to rear it's ugly head.

It seems that our messiah and savior is being questioned as to his ability to handle the job. Critics from the right are trying to point out he can't think on his feet because he needs to have his teleprompter in front of him at every single announcement he makes.

What they fail to understand is that he is still nervous about the job and needs to make sure he touches on all his talking points so he is just checking his notes to make sure he doesn't leave anything out of his talk.

But what the country needs to do is just leave him be a man. This country has 400 hundred years of racism and keeping the black man held back. Thus let him get his traction going and he will be the man we know he can be and the leader america needs to remake the country into the place it can and should be under the leadership of our messiah

Otis, GreenDay, BobC etal
I agree that the distruction of the finanical system was his plan all along. His biography told us all what his plans for leadership would be. Of course the MSM reporters probably never read either book.
I just heard that soon 50% of the population will not pay taxes. When a person doesn't have a stake in the game (home, car, nation etc) it doesn't really belong to them, so destroying the item doesn't sink in until the item is gone. (the car, the house, their freedom). We were warned this could happen by Fox and Lou Dobbs and others, but they were shouted down and marginalized by the MSM.

Obama, Please! Let Our Markets Go!!!!
JMO51 offers, "I take issue with your claim that once the government takes over a bank that it is hard to privitize it again."

"The S and L Scandal proved that to be false and there have been many examples in which a state government took over a utility company because it had to and then spun it back off."

You are confusing two topics: 1. Owning a bank and 2. Managing a bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy. Yes, the Government does get invovled in taking over certain failed institutions, by seizing their assests, temperarily, while they look for buyers of all or parts and liquidate whats left. Expediency is the pace and finality is the goal.

What we are doing now is a whole new venture and very dangerous. When the US Government gets involved in ownership, a poisonous brew is in the making. Ask Fannie and Freddie. How many businesses can stay afloat when thier activities are judged by political correctness, first, and profits, second.

Here's an example, AIG takes its best sales people and best Customers out for a weekend of wining, dining, golf and fun. A very smart move if you want to keep these guys. However, Obama publicly abused them for it and the Media sang the chorus! So, how many of those good Customers do you think you can keep if the President of the USA publicly embarrasses you and, thereby, them?

America has lost its mind!

One Big A.. Mistake, America! (OBAMA)

Forgive them they know not what they do
...blame their parents for sending them to get liberal educations from the intellectual elitist schools that for generations now have been fostering anti-American educations and sneering disrespect for anyone ignorant enough to believe in a red, white and blue country first morality.

I think we need to try it AGAIN. Oh and you will note from the article that the ONE time we got actual (not projected, thanks Mr. Clinton.) surplus was in the one time that spending was not greatly increased.

And just compare the dates in that article with this chart of the DJ averages.

JMO51 - "While you now acknowledge that Bush Running up the deficits was a bad thing I don't racall a lot of outcry from official conservative until Obama took over."

You need to get out more :) I heard lots and lots of complaints from just about everyone Democrat and Republican. Every conservative talk show was against it.

JMO51 - "And anyway Clinton created a surplus and you know how popular he was with your kind."

Projected surplus.

JMO51 - "Conservatives talk a big game but with the exception of John McCain who is true to his principles on this issue and a guy like Ron Paul who also talks the talk and walks the walk."

Which is why I for one support Mr. Ron Paul.

Dick

Dick observes, "Obama thinks and indeed believes that the American public is stupid, gullable and naive not to see his charade to amass politcial power and personal power by leveraging a crisis to his own ends."

But the American public IS stupid, gullible and naive. Obama is in the White House, is he not? Obama is deliberately destroying the American economy with the overwhelming approval of the American public, is he not?

What am I missing?

Interesting column in WSJ

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123629969453946717.html

O's mistaken view of Americans
Obama thinks and indeed believes that the American public is stupid, gullable and naive not to see his charade to amass politcial power and personal power by leveraging a crisis to his own ends.

The Blame Game
GW Bush warned early on about the housing bubble. No one listened. Bawney Fwank and his cohorts would hear none of it. After all it was buying them votes. Why should they worry?

The first hint of any bank problems was when Chuck-you Schumer went public saying that Indy bank in California was failing. Why would he do that? Millions were withdrawn the next day and the bank WAS in trouble.

This debaucle we are seeing right now was a plan hatched long ago and it has come to fruition. It is no accident. It is a plan to take us to eventual socialism/Marxism. Dear Leader will see to it. Happily.

Day of Punishment Has Come To America
Obama says the day of "reckoning" has come to America and he has all the answers, but in reality, his actions represent the "Day of Punishment Has Come To America" as he has rewarded those who violated the law and didn't pay taxes or took money from foreign enemy countries and elevated them into his cabinet. He has printed trillions of dollars that can never be paid back and wants to print over $600 billion more to nationalize healthcare so we can become the slaves of the government under his "wings" because he has come to "save" us and when the "waters part" and we have a revolution over excessive taxes, joblessness, and corrupt people at the top who stole all of our retirement and our children's future then and only then will we know if he is truly the "savior" or "messiah" or just "hot air!"

JMO51
I honestly don't mean to be condescending or insulting in any way,

But

You really do seem like an intelligent guy. If you'd just climb out of that stupid box you've trapped yourself into and realize it isn't about Democrats and Republicans, maybe, just maybe you'll see the whole picture and not just what you want to see.

Try, no matter how much it hurts, to look at evidence and process the information without the coloration of your emotional ties to liberalism and the Democrat party. The only difference between a liberal and a conservative is the special interests they spend your tax dollars on. If that's good enough for you, then you're apparently not as bright as you appear at first glance.

Politcal Meddling Caused Our Crash
JMO51 offers, "Plus the Bush administration hired based upon ideology and not competence filling the regultory agencies with people who did not believe in regulation."

Absolute hysterical nonsense. Be specific. Give us this list and their failures.

You are right about one thing, though. Bush did preside over the outing of the two biggest Demagogues of our time, maybe our century: Obama and Madoff.

What failed
JMO51 writes:
"Id say repeal of Glass-Stegal, a decision not regulate credit default swaps, allowing AIG to grow to big without triggering anti-trust regs 60%. The rest were shady practices wall street firms seduced by the money to not consider what would happen if housing prices began to fall."

The failure is NOT de regulation that allowed AIG to grow and be stupid. The failure is the GOVERNMENTS very stupid RESCUE. AIG and all the companies that played foolishly NEED to FAIL.

It is the government bailout. Starting with the DEMOCRAT controlled congress that voted the law combined with a RINO in the White house who proposed the plan.

Now a more DEMOCRAT congress with a Democrat Pres go and say lets do it again.

There is the failure.

Part Two Feruted

Obama quite frankly is following the playbook of FDR who like Obama inherited an econonomic disaster from a free market zealous Herbert Hoover. Conservative Propaganda to the contrary the New Deal did reduce the severity of the Great Depression my sense is that the stimulas package was too small not too big and the tax cuts were the least effective part of the plan though they are the quickest to take effect. Under normal circumstances increasing deficits are a bad thing, but in a recession like this one they are the lessor of two evils.

Would I have liked the plan to be a little purer, yes. But that is the way Washingon Works no matter who is in office. The whole idea of stimulas is to spend by borrowing to jump start the economy.

While you now acknowledge that Bush Running up the deficits was a bad thing I don't racall a lot of outcry from official conservativedom until Obama took over.

And anyway Clinton created a surplus and you know how popular he was with your kind. Frankly, conservatives have no credibility on this issue as born again deficit hawks only when its the dems who are controlling the agenda.

When this recession is over it will be the time for this country to take stock of what it wants its government to do and how and who should pay for it. Conservatives talk a big game but with the exception of John McCain who is true to his principles on this issue and a guy like Ron Paul who also talks the talk and walks the walk. The rest of the Republicans are not Dems light they are worse then the Dems. Because they promise you can have it all. Lower taxes and their favorite pet projects funded by China.

MacMoore
There you go again, making sense and being realistic. You better stop that or you may get audited or something!

Krauthammer 3/6/09
Excellent! Hope he can get thru to as many people as possible. People are asleep as to what Obama is doing -- thank goodness Krauthammer is stating things AS THEY ARE!

Continues to be that this would be a punishment and not a final judgement.

Cure: Competitive Free Market Capitalism
JM051 offers, "Bottom line is the failure to regulate the banks led to this crisis abd the only solution is painfully socialistic."

Absolute nonsense!

No system on earth has delivered more people out of poverty than competitive, Free Market Capitalism. None!! So, why not use it?

The answer is simple, Obama's agenda needs poverty to succeed. Without a growing poverty class, who needs his Central Planning?

Fannie and Freddie, government managed enterprises, publicly backed and encouraged high-risk loans for political reasons. When the US Government backs an asset, that asset becomes legal tender throughout the world. So, everyone got with the program.

Unfortunately, banks run by politicians for votes instead of run by Capitalists for Profits makes for bad business. Fannie and Freddie crashed and burned while the politicians that ran them into the ground got re-elected. Sweet!

The cure is simple, take ideological politics out of the Market and let it roar back to life. But, that's not the goal. Too bad for us.

America has lost its mind!

If history teaches that political...
...power has a corrupting influence. And, this power can corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely, this truth led to the creation of our system of central government. Our central government is based on these principles, and these historical truths about human nature and human civil society.

http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/288200.html

Historically, the individual has had three threats, three dangers to his life and liberty:
First, from his own government. More have been slaughtered by their central government.
Second, from other governments. Many have been slaughtered in wars between central governments.
And, third, from society descending into a war of all against all. From the have-nots attacking the haves, class warfare. "Bellum omnium contra omnes," a Latin phrase meaning "the war of all against all":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellum_omnium_contra_omnes

The concept that the Rule of Law is supreme comes from Scripture and America is exceptional because our form of central government is based on this biblical principle.

It has been observed that the government that promises to give you everything you want, must have the power to take everything you have. Obama will start by taking from the rich! Until there are no more rich to take from. Then, what follows after that?!?! The liberal might say, pure sweetness and light ... Utopia!

American exceptionalism will end. And, America will return to how humans have historically governed themselves, By the Rule of Man! Where a Man not the Law is supreme.

JMO51
You think it was successful? Look at this example from Jim Cramer:

At its peak the RTC had $160 billion in assets from failed institutions. Those assets were in 675 failed savings and loans. The average size of a failed institution was $237 million. The initial funding for the RTC in 1991 was $30 billion. The RTC was in operation for nine years from 1989 through 1997.

The largest of these, Bank of America, has about $2.4 trillion in assets. That one institution is about 15 times the size of the entire RTC caseload at its peak. It is about 50 times the size of the average RTC institution.
Now let's consider some statistics about FDIC staffing. At the peak of the RTC, in 1992, the agency had 15,000 people working for it. Now staffing at year-end 2007 stood at 4,600. They have added some examiners but not enough to cover anywhere near the problem of one or two big banks and the problems are spread all over the country.

In 1992 the FDIC closed 120 banks with $45 billion in assets.

What would be the staffing needs to nationalize Bank of America, Citi, and Wells as some advocates suggest is necessary? Their total assets are about $5 trillion.

If it took the RTC nine years to deal with a caseload that at its peak was $160 billion in assets, how long will it take to deal with say $5 trillion. Do we have that kind of time?

It's not so simplistic. And looking at Obama and how he works, he would make it a complete disaster. Look at how he handled the stimulus bill. It was a spending bill and had nothing to do with stimulating the economy.

I would be fine with kicking Bush out of office before his term was over. He didn't make wise choices. Just like Obama now. We need to get rid of these people faster.

Bob C
Part One Response.

To your first paragraph we are in close agreement. But I contend that it is conservative principles on conflict. Yes, there are the nativist conservatives who have issues with immigration. The fact is the corporate conservatives were all about cheap labor. Wall sreet did not want the border fixed no did it care about a crumbling infrastructure it wanted short term profits and lower taxes on capital gains and was hoping to get a bigger piece of the Social Security Pie. The banks got less regulations and rules that made it easier to go after people who default on their credit cards. The Republican Party leaders talked about social conservative values but when they got to washington they went working for wall street and forgot about main street. They did not act like Democrats to the contrary many of the Dems like Frank and Dodd and Schumer acted like Republicans so they could fill their campaign coffers.

Plus the Bush administration hired based upon ideology and not competence filling the regultory agencies with people who did not believe in regulation. No wonder we got Bernie Madoff.

As to the second part of your part one. Wrong. Fannie and Freddy and the reinvestment act at best was 10% of a problem that has many fathers. Id say repeal of Glass-Stegal, a decision not regulate credit default swaps, allowing AIG to grow to big without triggering anti-trust regs 60%. The rest were shady practices wall street firms seduced by the money to not consider what would happen if housing prices began to fall.

Do you want your country back?

Until the federal government realizes that they work for us, do the following:

Never vote for a president for more than one term.
Never vote for a senator for more than one term
Never vote for a congressman for more than two terms.

DO NOT donate money to either major party and don't do business with anyone who does.

Stay informed. Write your politicians. Understand that politicians must lie to at least half of the population before an election and all of the population after the election.

Finally, you don't need them. They need us.

Amen, David
I thought the same thing when i saw them smile with the pride of voting, showing off their stained fingers.
what is our bright idea? a sticker saying i voted.
freedom and the rights our forefathers fought for have become to distant to us all...we deserve this and maybe we will rise from it with renewed strength and courage and committment to the values we've neglected.

Obama agenda
Has it ever occurred to anyone that Obama is dead-on with his agenda? Look at the other side of the coin. Evidently he knows exactly what he is doing and his full intention is to totally bankrupt this country. Remember his campaign words "Change you can believe in." He is Socialist to the bone and he needs to be stopped. He wants to push all of these programs through as quick as he can before the American people catch on to what's really happening. The change is, we'll never be able to recognize America the way it used to be. WAKE UP AMERICANS!!

Black America
Should be in the streets, and would be if they could just understand that they were freed by a Republican President, they were freed from the Democrats Jim Crow laws by Repubs and without the Repubs the civil rights act would never have passed, and yet they monolitically vote Democratic, the same Dems that have institutionalized a poverty class through welfare and steadfastlly refuse to let real change into public schools. Black Americans are still slaves they just work for a Democrat government. Such a shame how many black people have been lost in the sewer of the entitlement society of Dems.

Very good explanation of derivatives and how they work. It's reminiscent of the instruments that sank Enron. The primary difference being the nature of the underlying securities (mortgage notes vs energy contracts). The workings of these things transcend the comprehension level of 85% of conservatives, 99% of libs, and 115% of Congresscritters.

You are missing something.

Those house flippers suddenly found themselves with multiple mortgages on houses they couldn't sell and defaulted. Not a huge portion of the total, but a few million here, a few million there and pretty soon you're talking real money.

What to cut.
JMO51 writes:

Voting
I am convinced we can avoid another mistake like this past election with 2 very simple changes:
1. Do what they do in Iraq and plunge your very patriotic finger in a well of indelible ink, thereby negating the Acorn vote early and often people.
2. Every voter has to be able to answer a couple civics questions ie. who is th Sec of State, how many senators are they, what % of states needed to ratify an amendment. Nothing hard but enough so the brain dead don't elect the next idiot.
Can I get an amen.

Maybe I'm missing something
I don't mean this in a sarcastic way, I am truly interested in any answers anyone can give me. Mr. Krauthammer mentioned greedy house flippers as part of the cause of the economic downturn. I assume he would mean a very small part, but still I ask, how is that. A person takes what is usually a distressed property, puts his own money into improving the property, and the neighborhood at the same time, and sells it for it's new market value. That's greedy? How does that damage the economy? I'm genuinely interested in reading any replies. And no, I'm not a house flipper.

what is so sad to people of color is that this is what our first president of color will be remembered for...selling the American people into economic slavery.

To Obama, Freedom Is Not For The Masses
No other system has lifted more people out of poverty than competitive, Free Market Capitalism. None! So, why not use it?

It appears that Obama not only does not want to end poverty, he wants to grow it by expanding Welfare, Unemployment payments, Gov't sponsored healthcare and, of course, an expanded Public School system.

It is all about power.

If he can institutionalize a big enough begger class and pretend to be their savior with free goodies stolen from a minority, votes will be easy to fleece.

It's a shame. At one time poverty was a transitional stage of life. Liberals, with their war on poverty have institutionalized it as a permanent residence. With Obama, it just might become the majority.

With government controlled healthcare, citizens, by definition, become burdens to society. In order to control the burden to society, rationing of remedies, care and services will be needed in conjunction with nationally enforced behavior controls, such as special taxes or even imprisonment for behavior that places undue burdens on society.

To a Liberal, freedom is just a negotiating tool for healthcare, money and other such tangibles. People die every day for freedom. Liberals just trade it away. Scary!

Learn to say, "Please" and "Thank you" (... massah" is optional)!

America has lost its mind!

you are correct sir.

I take issue with your claim that once the government takes over a bank that it is hard to privitize it again.

The S and L Scandal proved that to be false and there have been many examples in which a state government took over a utility company because it had to and then spun it back off.

As to your 90 day example we don't have a parlimantary system if we did we would have been rid of Bush after Katrina and who knows we might not be in the mess we are now in. And anyway if you want to use poll numbers the Republicans in Congress have the lowest approval ratings lower then the Dems in Congress and much lower than Obamas.

Excellent, Charles
Great column, Charles, and thank you.

Obama was elected because he knew how to work the gullible media to his advantage, he had no problem using uneducated and ignorant people to his advantage(some of them still can't name the VP), and he has a command of technology. Or, at least, his campaign did.

This is so bizarre. On the surface, we should be celebrating that we finally have a President who is a man of color. He's intelligent, handsome, and personable. The blessings of God should be on this man and his presidency.

But he's a disaster.

Every time he opens his mouth, the market goes further south. Everything he does is the exact opposite of what he should do for the good of the country. He's trying to force universal health care, college for all, and stupid and wasteful global warming policies on a people who are losing their retirements and jobs they've held for up to 20 years and more.

He just insulted Gordon Brown in ways that I personally would have known better than to do myself. A 25-pack DVD set for the head of Great Britain? What is that? That wouldn't be a gift worthy for my own parents. While he tries to play footsie with Iran's mad leader and toys with offending Israel?

What is with this man?

Face it, People, there's more to all of this than meets the eye. This cannot be happening by accident.

If you've never thought about spiritual matters and the reality of how the spiritual and the natural interact, it's time to give it some honest thought and research.

Zero is a marxist
Please should read the book Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg. It might as well be written about Pres. Zero who will destroy capitalism, have us feed off the government breast, and brainwash our children.

Obama's plan to socialize America
As was the case with Hitler's plan to catapult Germany into the world's catbird seat, and Lennin's plan to replace the tyranny of the aristocracy with the tyranny of the proletariat (with him as the oligarch), Obama's plan depends on a desperate and fearful populace.

Those who think that his seeming incompetence, which is driving the Dow to the 3,000 mark, is something that he does not want are sadly mistaken. Just as Hitler used the economic tragedy of the Depression to climb into power, and Napoleon used the chaos of the revolution to sieze France, Obama is using this crisis, in fact, exacerbating it deliberately, to insinuate himself and his socialist/communist compadres into the American system. Sadly, it looks as though he will succeed. There are too many "useful idiots" for him to fail.

JMO51
The problem is with taking over banks in the "short run" is there is no "short run". When the government does something, it is difficult to un-do it.

This president that was going to bring "hope" to our country has accomplished the opposite. There is talk, from the usual suspects, on TH that we aren't giving Obama enough time. In California, you have 90 days to prove yourself on a job. If you fail, you get fired. Obama should be fired. He is a disaster. He is spending our money like a drunken sailor. And now he is talking about healthcare? We clearly can't afford that right now. And we can't afford him.

The permanent crisis
Obama is using the financial crisis to remake the country into the socialist model that he envisions. This crowd is using the crisis to panic the ignorant into accepting this power grab as a necessary evil. Obama's failure to address the banking problem is causing the markets to bottom out. It is becoming more apparent every day that this lack of action is by design. They wish to operate in permanent crisis mode.

Straw men
I no longer desire to entertain attempts to explain to libs where they are wrong. I no longer desire to educate them. They are straw men. They deserve the society they hope to achieve through chairman maobama. I loathe their very existence as evidence of degradation of genetic material and an utter failure of the education system that spawned their "greatest minds. In more than 2 years of reading posts by these pretentious pseudointellectual transparent puppets I have not encountered a single worthy argument. You libs are straw men and as such shall be treated thusly when I post in the future. Since your voting bloc will benefit greatly from wholesale wealth redistribution there will be no shortage of you losers to attack without recognizing even the possibility of another side. There is no other side.Hence the straw argument. The suffering of those of us that are affected by your NAtional SocialiZm(NAZI) will be repaid tenfold at least at a grassroots level. The war has begun and the sounds of battle will be the ever increassing dissatisfaction of your troops of welfare soldiers.

JMO51 - Facts, Part Three

But then, on top of all of the deficit spending, Obama is busy cooking up new regulations, bureauracies and schemes whose sole purpose is to hamper American industry and small business, from cap and trade to the laughably entitled "Employee Free Choice Act," and to pay back the special interests that supported him in the election, to wit the unions, environmemtalists and global warming freaks. The cap and trade alone will reduce GDP growth by nearly 3% and raise energy costs by 100-150%. The general public will see their electric bills double in the next few years and triple in the next ten.

Also, this bill mandates that any money spent on any project funded in whole or in part by this spendulus bill must use union labor at prevailing wage. What this means is that 1) any business, large or small, not unionized won't see a penny of this "stimulus" farce, and 2) no non-union suppliers of construction materials (lumber, cement, steel, etc.) will see a penny either. 3), that clause ensures huge amounts of waste, overruns, shoddy work and fraud.

The next brilliant strategy by this dope in the middle of a recession is putting the coal industry out of business, and to force "renewable" fuels on the economy all in the name of global warming, which is still an unproven theory. Not coincidentally, since the earth's average temperature has not risen for the last ten years, its proponents have renamed it "climate change."

So on the one hand Obama is deficit spending at unprecedented levels while at the same time creating roadblocks in front of corporate America. By any standard other than the liberal mentality, it is insanity.

The third part of this incomprehensively moronic "stimulus" package is the 2/3 of a $trillion set aside as a down payment on another massive entitlement in the form of socialized medicine. Stay tuned for details on this one.

JMO51 - Facts, Part Two

So here we are in 2009, repeating the foolish policies of George W. Bush except that Obamanomics is Bushonomics on steroids. He has not yet been in office for two months and he has spent more money, on credit, in three weeks than Bush spent on the entire six years of the war in Iraq. His nearly $4 trillion budget is rife with broad new entitlements over and above the entitlements which we now can't pay for and which will bankrupt America in less that ten years. No matter how admirable the intentions, this kind of fiscal irresponsiblity is unsustainable for very long

How does our sail-eared messiah plan on paying for this? By raising taxes on "the rich." The plain fact of the matter is that even if he confiscated 100% of the income of everybody in the country making $75,000 or more, he still couldn't pay for this spending binge. In fact, federal deficits are projected by the Obama administration from as high as $1.7 trillion per year to as low as half a trillion for the next ten years. But Obama's projected deficits are based on the fantasy that the economy will grow by 5% (to as much as 6%) a year, starting in 2010. That would be a cute trick since the average growth per year of the GDP since 1970 has been 3.1%. Is it just me or is Obama living inside a stupid bubble?

JMO51 - Facts, Part One

Facts? I have facts - facts you will undoubted will reject as irrelevant since you've got your head so far up Obama's butt you can't actually see what's going on.

The Bush administration was a disaster for this country, not just because of the incompetence in Iraq or their spending like drunken Democrats, but because Bush failed to address issues of great importance to the long term sovereignty of the United States. Illegal immigration, border security, energy independence, economic stability, foreign debt, corporate migration, crumbling infrastructure and our sadly performing educational system are but a few of the problems facing America in the near future.

Worse than that, Bush turned the Republican Party into Democrat lite. Far from being a staunch supporter of capitalism and individual freedom, Bush caved to special interests. He looked the other way while business in the southwest, particularly Texas and southern California, hire illegal immigrants by the millions, driving down wages and displacing American workers. Instead of securing our border against millions of illegals and drugs, Bush built a superhighway to the heartland to make it easy for wetbacks, terrorists and drugs to pour into the USA.

And while the sub prime fiasco was not entirely Bush’s fault, he didn’t press hard enough for those regulations which were advocated by the Republicans in the nineties - regulations designed to combat the abuses committed by Fannie and Freddie. Those regulations were summarily rejected by the Democrats, led by economic geniuses Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and the rest of the idiots who let this disaster foment. In essence, Bush blew it and the country is paying a huge price for it. Unfortunately the American great unwashed are far too ignorant to understand or care what happened. For them, ignorance is bliss.

"Intellectually dishonest to the core"
Krauthemmer has absolutely nailed it with this column. The only thing that puzzles me is why it took so long for this brilliant man to realize Obama is a fraud, or in Krauthammer's words "intellectually dishonest to the core."

Reality has a nasty habit of eventually kicking wishful thinking's butt.

i'm sure you've all seen the crestor commercial well, while you were busy living your life something sinister has been building in our representation in DC and it needs to be extirpated!

"He is not a socialist unless you acknowledge that we are all socialists in a sense that the government had to make the awful choice or having the entire finincial system collapse or take a stake in the banks. "

------

When a politician seeks to greatly increase government control of energy, healthcare, and education, well then yes, he is a socialist. This is what people wanted. They wanted someone who would pay for their gas and mortgage, through redistribution of wealth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36x8rTb3jI. The Republicans, using Joe the Plumber, told people that Obama was in favor of spreading the wealth around, and that's what they are getting, except all wealth is being destroyed. You could say that in Reaganomics, a rising tide lifts all boats, whereas Obamanomics sinks all boats. We will all be more equal at the bottom of an economic collapse. Harrison Bergeron, here we come.

And if you think I don't hold Repubs responsible for our current woes, you are mistaken. But I do know that Obama's policies will make the recovery much more drawn out. I just hope his changes don't prevent a recovery, which would normally happen.

I wonder... how many of the 527's and the various campaigns are paying attention...?? Talk about material for some really juicy commercials.

And what irony.

Not just is this something that will in all likelihood come back and haunt the Dems...

...but the very people that they were trying to "help" are now going to be shut out from the American dream of home ownership for some time.

There is blame to be placed everywhere in both parties, from Dems enacting the horrible Community Re-investment Act, forcing lenders into bad loans, greedy lenders taking advantage of the relaxed lending guidelines, financial institutions like Goldman who packaged these toxic assets and sold them to clients, to Congressional leaders who not only gave Fanny/Freddy a pass, but patted the criminal Franklin Raines and Frank Johnson on the back for the "great job" they did running those failed institutions, and finally the Repubs who did little more than whisper their opposition to what was happening.

Yes. Yes. Yes. They are serious issues ONLY because the government has them so screwed up. They would not be issues at all if the government were not so involved in them. You can't see the forest because a bunch of damn trees are blocking the view. Your solution is to give the government even more control over things to screw them up even worse. Why oh why do you want some dead beat politician to make all these decisions for you? Why? The only answer that makes sense is you believe you are incapable of making such decisions and want to hand over all your power to some mindless bureaucrat. Why? We all know how stupid you types are but, I know from reading your posts that you don't agree that you are stupid but, yet, you advocate for others to control everything because you are too stupid to control yourself. Seize the Medicare Opportunity
Does everyone remember how Dems campaigned for years that Republicans would take away their Social Security and Medicare?
It turns out that a Democrat will do it. Obama's proposals to cut reimbursement of providers by 20% and cancel Medicare Advantage can only sew confusion of poor service among seniors. Go into the matter a little further, and Newt Guerinrich is saying that eliminating $80B in Medicar and Medicaid fraud would pay for the uninsured.

No matter how you look at it, Medicare is the right case study to use against government take over of health care, not swipes at England ar Canada. Our own government health care programs are so bad and need reform so much, only a zealot would give the government more. And, when you want to explain rationiong, use the Obama proposals, themselves. Do it right and win the senior vote, too.

opposition are not cowards
*

Ironically, the “black” man does NOT recognize slavery because; President Obama is reinstituting that same condition on a macro-economic scale. The opposition are not cowards for fearing this assault.

Is entrepreneurial capitalistic “free enterprise” sustainable? Or, has the (233 year) experiment in individual property rights come to a failed conclusion? Is the human race returning (evolving) to a natural state, in which everyone is subservient to the state, totalitarianism?

Citizens’ personal and real estate property ownership; including use, distribution control, compensation for transfer, and relief from confiscatory taxes, must be recaptured from an ever expanding government if modern civilization is to be sustained. Prosperity for a large (as percentage) middle-class must be present for liberty to function as we have experienced.

Comprehensive slavery is all about ownership; being property of the state as opposed to an individual.

Patriots are searching for some ACTION they can do personally! Many authors and media personalities promote broad-brush, macro-ideas, and general philosophy. Citizens want specific impact activity they can engage in; click the “pitch-fork posse” post for detailed instructions.

I know you are angry and everybdy is. There is a lot to be angry about. If you are angry about earmarks then you right to say that Republicans are no better and if Republicans and Democrats are acting the same ask yourself the question is it them or the system.

Also much of the blame for thsi current economic crisis falls squarely in right-wing conservative ideology. An ideolgy that sees all government regulation of indutry as bad. That was the culture in washington on both sides of the eisle and it was the auto industry lobbying for no fuel emission standards and banks and wall street lobbying for less regulation. Pundits on the right were saying for the longest time that there was no housing bubble much as the right denies the esistence of global warming. Even as things were starting to go south Wall Street was predicting that everything was fine and conservative columnists were talking about how Bush was not getting enough credit for the economy, that wa until the floor drapped.

And what are the Republicans proposing as a solution to this mess when you can nail them down at all. Corporate tax cuts and capital gains cuts. Like one trick ponies SOS.

Question for you? Which government programs do you think the Feds should cut during this recession?

What's going on?
A widely asked question on the air lately: What's going on?
In light of the stock market decline, housing market declines, government spending, nationalization of institutions, strengthening unions, class warfare, growing government control and power, secret central banking talks, weakening property rights;
what's going on? Have any reporters out there read The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx?
It's a playbook of what's going on. Are you kidding me?

Animal House

Ralph
What utter non-sense. You know that as a wing nut I would expect that you are not going to like Obama's Vision for America. But to stick him with this mess after 90 days is just plain dumb. The problems in this economy run deep. They were not created in a day and they will nit be fixed within a day. Frankly, Obama and his administration are still trying to figure out where the bodies are buried. Also Obama told us that things would get worse before they got better because that is what all the experts told him that there was more bad news to come. And the stimulas aside. Also Obama is still working off of the Tarp plan that was put into place by the Bush Administration the one that gave the banks the money without any strings attached because as Conservatives you just gotta trust those bankers.

Obama is not a marxist and if you think so it is clear that you don't even know what Maxism is. He is not a socialist unless you acknowledge that we are all socialists in a sense that the government had to make the awful choice or having the entire finincial system collapse or take a stake in the banks.

In fact, maybe we would be better off in the short run if we did take over the banks at least then we could make sure the top execs don't take your tax dollars to fund corporate jets, lavish retreats, or Bonuses.

Bottom line is the failure to regulate the banks led to this crisis abd the only solution is painfully socialistic. Bottom line extreme capitalism led to socialism. what a paradox but true.

Obama is a National embarassment
'... what do you think the gift Obama gave Gordon Brown is? It's a traditional thing. The first time the leader of a country shows up, you give them a gift. Let me first tell you what Gordon Brown's gift was. "Mr Brown's gifts," there were three, "included an ornamental desk pen holder made from the oak timbers of Victorian anti-slaver HMS Gannet, once named HMS President. Mr Obama was so delighted he has already put it in pride of place in the Oval Office on the Resolute Desk which was carved from timbers of Gannet's sister ship, HMS Resolute.

"Another treasure given to the US President was the framed commission for HMS Resolute, a vessel that came to symbolise Anglo-US peace when it was saved from ice packs by Americans and given to Queen Victoria. Finally, Mr Brown gave a first edition set of the seven-volume classic biography of Churchill by Sir Martin Gilbert." Now, this pen set, this pen set contains wood from the ship that Obama's desk in the Oval Office is made of. These are well-thought-out gifts given with tremendous respect. Do you know what Obama gave Gordon Brown? Twenty-five DVDs of classic American films. Not even Blu-ray, standard definition DVDs that Gordon Brown could have purchased on Amazon or Barnes & Noble or anywhere, if he had any desire to see them.' Limbaugh

Put the kool aid down and look at the facts, if you dare. The money put in the banking system was supposed to be liquid in order to re-instate credit, which is what our economy runs on. It didn't happen.

This is now Obama's economy and it is a disaster now, with nothing to indicate it's return to a semblance of prosperity, except for the unions and Obama's select corporate beneficiaries.

No amount of syncophatic apologies for this guy is going to change the virtual freefall of our economy we are seeing with our eyes and the nation is feeling as a whole.

'Big Bang' Agenda III
Theft on a grand scale and the height of irresponsibility!

Two thumbs down to the clown who makes me frown. The pretender will surely render more than a fender-bender with all this wild squander of tender. For from debt we’ll all drown while this fool with a crown fiddles away in DC town.

I’m at a point where I’m actually ashamed at the way the politicos are behaving: Feeding frenzy at taxpayers’ expense. I’ve fired off dozens of faxes and phone calls to my two senators and representative on the mindless spending, bailouts, the war, and illegal immigration but it seems it all falls on deaf ears or too many voters are not raising hell; too many are in the mode of deer staring at the headlights bearing down on them and only microseconds left to avert disaster. Uninvolved citizens equal loss of freedom and sure enslavement.

Re-inforcing AynRandLives point...
...view this important video to see how democrats responded to our looming banking and credit crisis we have today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs

Numerous democrats blocked attempts to confront the impending banking system crash. Bush, McCain and other Republicans attempted to get the democrat controlled congress to take protective actions.

democrats responded in two ways. In the government, democrats blocked efforts to head off the crisis. Outside government, other democrats responded by personally profitting from the mortgage crisis.

democrats raked in multi-million dollar paydays like, Jamie Gorelick, by using their clout with the DNC to help Freddie Mac and Fannie May to cook their books. By the way, Jamie Gorelick is the one who established the "wall of separation" between the CIA and the FBI making the 9/11 terrorist attacks possible.

http://inzax.us/2008/09/17/jamie-gorelick-clinton-crony/

"Gorelick also served on the board of directors of Fannie Mae, and was part of the accounting cook booking scheme which has resulted in hundreds of billions of dollars in losses and is now owned by the taxpayer...Gorelick, a democrat politician, pocketed $26 million from her Fannie Mae affiliation."

Frank Raines, another democrat, raked in $90 million in pay to cook the books for democrats and ACORN:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/09/how_close _are_raines_and_obama.html

"He (Frank Raines) was accused of manipulating earnings statements so he could be paid bonuses to which he was not entitled. In July, Mr. Raines was interviewed by Anita Huslin, a business reporter for the Washington Post."

democrat, leftist, neo-marxist, social justice policies like the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) placed the banking mortgage and consumer credit industries in the peril we see today.

'Big Bang' Agenda II
The "Green Agenda": What's really unethical here and a major conflict of interest is that Gore, Pelosi, and many other politicos are investing in green technologies on the ground floor while at the same time they promote them (with scare tactics and otherwise) they craft legislation (or otherwise influence legislation) to mandate green technologies in order to boost their investments. Many of these technologies, like ethanol production from corn (VERY inefficient), have been shown to be NOT in the best interest of the majority of the American people or the planet, either now or even the future. Global warming as Gore is pushing is far, far from a sure thing. So this is, again, a pack of lies or orchestrated deceit in order to capitalize on investments they’ve made and other nefarious reasons. How low is that?!? I’m not against “going green” and don’t discount global warming completely but since these proposed remedies have such an impact on the economy and people’s lives any measure taken has to be on very firm ground and with a maximum return on investments…not just monetarily but also quality of life for ALL. The solutions must be analyzed from a complete lifecycle perspective to ensure that the downside is absolutely minimized while the upside is maximized, again, not just monetarily but also quality of life for ALL.

One Promise Obama Is Keeping
That promise is one he made about twenty years ago that was verbalized by his "spiritual advisor" and family friend. That promise was, "God Damn America". THAT my friends he is following through on.

'Big Bang' Agenda
Nothing short of a massive socialistic manifesto for BIG government at the expense of that precious and rare (but already dwindling) commodity: Freedom. The pretender’s agenda will mandate government control of the lives AND minds of our children and the elderly; bookends that will trap the once productive adults in the middle to do government’s bidding while being taxed to oblivion. Nice one America!

Government botches everything they touch and healthcare is way too important to entrust to those buffoons (“Sir”-what a farce!-Ted Kennedy comes to mind immediately). It’s a complex issue. Giving everyone access to quality healthcare without breaking the bank is a major challenge. Also questions like 1) If Britain’s, Canada’s, and Sweden’s system is not a model why do the people there outlive us by a substantial margin? 2) I say follow the money. Who’s getting rich off the misery of others and who has an ax to grind when it comes to advancing or derailing proposals? 3) How do we obtain a level playing field for access to quality and affordable healthcare?

Obama and the Birth Certificate
All Obama has to do to clear this up is agree to release his birth certificate and all other information relative to his records. He obviously has somethings he wishes kept secret. Why?? His cabinet choices have been people who did not pay taxes and the latest candidate is a pro-abortion advocate -- including support of the horrific partial-birth abortion procedure. Of course the rational approach is -- as Obama says -- support abortion so no one will be "punished with a baby."

an orchestrated crisis?
That would have to be the most all encompassing conspiracy of all time.

The economic crisis is global in nature, and to believe that Obama is capable of orchestrating it, after a few weeks in power, is an absolutely mindless accusation, especially given that the crisis actually began about a year ago.

Why are we surprised?
Sure NObama made no effort to honestly reveal exactly what the "CHANGE" he planned for the U.S.. But as Charles pointed out, such things are not so unusual among politicians.

Nope, the thing that surprises me is the number of folks who prior to Jan. 21st were convinced Nobama would in fact govern as a moderate.

Clearly without giving any thought to the fact NObama did not earn the ranking of being the #1 most liberal member of the U.S. Senate just for kicks and grins.

In closing....Folks liberals work daily to be the political opposite of conservatives....
And we know conservatives work to preserve such things as status quo and tradition (i.e. a strict interprettation of the US Constitution).

Now think about what this reveals about the man we now call President.

Wow you said it all!
I think many citizens miss the point that Obama is Keeping them in PANIC so they can not get there minds around the consequences of what is happening, what he is doing to our government and Constitution...!
Thank you for your article it was to the point!

JM051 and bogus arguments on mortgages
Interesting that you blame Republicans for this mess. Here are some facts:
Someone came up the great idea of selling mortgage notes as investment vehicles (I think it was Merrill Lynch). The banks sold the notes to investment firms for lots of money. The investment firms packaged them as collaterized debt obligations (CDO's). These are what is known as derivatives because the value of the note is derived from the value of the house. This was all fine while the value of housing was solid and rising. When the housing bubble burst, the notes were no longer valuable investments. The people and entities holding these notes, called the loans. The banks had to pay up, destroying the amount of reserves the banks are required to keep under federal banking laws. The government is paying stimulus money to the banks to prop them up because foreign investors wanted and got their money on the derivatives. The investors who bought CDO's did not know the extent to which bad loans were included in the CDO, which is why they were surprised when the value of their investment tanked. Companies selling CDO's have now tanked (Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers etc). Where is Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae in all of this? When the Community Reinvestment Act was passed, the banks were pressured to make housing loans to people who could not qualify under the regular loan guidelines. The amount of people owning houses under Clinton rose 5% while it only rose 1% under Bush. Bush was pushing for more regulation of these loans. Wachovia was bought out by Wells Fargo because it made too many loans to illegal aliens that went bad! Fannie and Freedie and the Congressional idiots overseeing them did not cry foul at all of these bad loans. You can see that there is plenty of blame to go around. Blaming it solely on Republicans is BS.

kind of misses the point
Obama's plan to address the current economic crisis has not been a secret. He has been continuing to pump money into the banking system. He just signed a large stimulus bill designed to increase demand for goods. And he has been pushing changes to limit foreclosures.

But Krauthammer may have missed it while being so busy being wrong about every foreign policy issue over the last 8 years, but even before the bubble burst we ran up huge deficits in the Bush years. We also saw our manufacturing sector decline over a period of decades. And have seen wages stagnating for through the Bush years.

It is these issues that Obama means to be addressing by making the US no longer the only advanced country to foist its health care costs on employers in an inefficient way. Energy stands as an era for future job growth if we cease being behind the curve on it. And education fits people for the jobs that we can do better than the third world.

If one misses that a lack of good competitive jobs is a problem for the US economy then Krauthammer's claim of non-sequiter would make sense. But unless one is insulated from the normal job market, as Krauthammer is, it is hard to miss that.

JM051 and your bogus arguments
You are so smug while you offer BS as a response to the people posting here.
Let me rebut your OPINIONS with facts;
1. The lack of tort reform IS the problem with the cost of health care. Personal injury lawyers will sue at the drop of a hat (how many of us know anyone with mesothelioma?). Their malpractice insurance increases dramatically. The doctors pass on the cost of this insurance to the patients. The health insurance companies pass on the costs of covering lawsuits against hospitals and doctors as part of the cost of health care. Not to mention that the cost of hospital care now includes the federally mandated free care at the ER for illegal aliens, and all of the illegal aliens who do not pay their hospital bills. Some hospitals have had to close down their ER's because of the glut of illegal aliens. Tort reform that would cap the amount of damages available to litigants would immediately lower costs in ALL sectors of health care, but it would have to be passed by Congress. Congress is full of lawyers who get huge donations from personal injury lawyers. Socialized health care is a complicated solution, tort reform is an easy solution.

oldsocialworker
First let me say that finally I am hearing a reasoned arguement from a conservative leaning poster. I agree with much of what you say and have no use for people who want to suck off the system whether they are people who cheat to get welfare or SSI or are corporate CEO's who say Viva Freemarket capitalism on the way up and bail us out on the way down.

Many of the Johnson great society programs turned out to be an utter disaster. They thought they could bring together a few great minds and they could just solve poverty. Everyday I see example of people who believe that if something happens to them it must be someone else's fault. I also meet people everyday who give 110% because they have pride and a sense of personal responsibility.

Welfare reform was a great idea and Clinton deserves a lot of credit for that. I am almost as troubled by the idea of bailing out homeowners who made bad decision as bankers who are giving themselves bonuses for their failures.

Most of the medical experts and even business leaders are supportive of univeral healthcare so that is about as mainstream middle of the road as you can get today. Social Security is one of the greatest success stories in America and would be working a lot better if every Conservative Administration (Except Reagan)did not try to dismantle it.

If you hate social programs and welfare you gotta hate no bid contracts and government bailouts, farm subsidies, and protectionist trade policies, unfortunately your Republican Friends in Congress talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

Blame Liberals for all of the oonsquences of the welfare state, then blame conservatives for the consequences of the corporate welfare state.

Don't panic
>.how do we accomplish that with the yoke of the daily more oppressive government on our necks?<

We all know politics is cyclical. Even now there is a political movement among Democrats(the Blue Dogs especially) that is in opposition to the Big Bang approach.

2010 will come soon enough. Most Americans are already realizing that Obama's policies aren't economically realistic and will need to be tempered.
It doesn't help to respond hysterically and polarize the vast majority of Americans who don't have the completely negative view of Obama that most who post here have.

What does America know...?

Charles nails it, on how we got here.

In one sentence... the housing bubble.

It is now abundantly clear that one party removed the safe-guards on common-sense lending and then pressured financial institutions to do the opposite. And the other party either sat by or offered but the most feeble and pathetic efforts against it. Simply put, government failed.

Shame on both of them... but ALSO on us.

Because tragically, most Americans are not paying enough attention... all at their own peril.

Unfortunately, that makes them... ignorant.

That is, both mis-informed and under-informed. Even though they have the best excuse in the world... making a living and raising a family, truly a full-time job.

But I would remind them of one thing only... freedom is still not free.

However, ignorance is NOT stupidity.

Because most Americans, but definately not all, have some really good and basic common sense. In other words, when they actually know what's going on... they get it.
