Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

WASHINGTON -- When the House of Representatives takes up arms against $4 gas by voting 324-84 to sue OPEC, you know that election-year discourse has gone surreal. Another unmistakable sign is when a presidential candidate makes a gaffe, then, realizing it is too egregious to take back without suffering humiliation, decides to make it a centerpiece of his foreign policy.

Before the Democratic debate of July 23, Barack Obama had never expounded upon the wisdom of meeting, without precondition, with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Bashar al-Assad, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jong Il or the Castro brothers. But in that debate, he was asked about doing exactly that. Unprepared, he said sure -- then got fancy, declaring the Bush administration's refusal to do so not just "ridiculous" but "a disgrace."

After that, there was no going back. So he doubled down. What started as a gaffe became policy. By now, it has become doctrine. Yet it remains today what it was on the day he blurted it out: an absurdity.

Should the president ever meet with enemies? Sometimes, but only after minimal American objectives -- i.e. preconditions -- have been met. The Shanghai communique was largely written long before Richard Nixon ever touched down in China. Yet Obama thinks Nixon to China confirms the wisdom of his willingness to undertake a worldwide freshman-year tyrants tour.

Most of the time you don't negotiate with enemy leaders because there is nothing to negotiate. Does Obama imagine that North Korea, Iran, Syria, Cuba and Venezuela are insufficiently informed about American requirements for improved relations?

There are always contacts through back channels or intermediaries. Iran, for example, has engaged in five years of talks with our closest European allies and the International Atomic Energy Agency, to say nothing of the hundreds of official U.S. statements outlining exactly what we would give them in return for suspending uranium enrichment.

Obama pretends that while he is for such "engagement," the cowboy Republicans oppose it. Another absurdity. No one is debating the need for contacts. The debate is over the stupidity of elevating rogue states and their tyrants, easing their isolation and increasing their leverage by granting them unconditional meetings with the president of the world's superpower.

Obama cited Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman as presidents who met with enemies. Does he know no history? Neither Roosevelt nor Truman ever met with any of the leaders of the Axis powers. Obama must be referring to the pictures he's seen of Roosevelt and Stalin at Yalta, and Truman and Stalin at Potsdam. Does he not know that at that time Stalin was a wartime ally?

During the subsequent Cold War, Truman never met with Stalin. Nor Mao. Nor Kim Il Sung. Truman was no fool.

Obama cites John Kennedy meeting Nikita Khrushchev as another example of what he wants to emulate. Really? That Vienna summit of a young, inexperienced, untested American president was disastrous, emboldening Khrushchev to push Kennedy on Berlin -- and then near fatally in Cuba, leading almost directly to the Cuban missile crisis. Is that the precedent Obama aspires to follow?

A meeting with Ahmadinejad would not just strengthen and vindicate him at home, it would instantly and powerfully ease the mullahs' isolation, inviting other world leaders to follow. And with that would come a flood of commercial contracts, oil deals, diplomatic agreements -- undermining precisely the very sanctions and isolation that Obama says he would employ against Iran.

As every seasoned diplomat knows, the danger of a summit is that it creates enormous pressure for results. And results require mutual concessions. That is why conditions and concessions are worked out in advance, not on the scene.

What concessions does Obama imagine Ahmadinejad will make to him on Iran's nuclear program? And what new concessions will Obama offer? To abandon Lebanon? To recognize Hamas? Or perhaps to squeeze Israel?

Having lashed himself to the ridiculous, unprecedented promise of unconditional presidential negotiations -- and then having compounded the problem by elevating it to a principle -- Obama keeps trying to explain. On Sunday, he declared in Pendleton, Ore., that by Soviet standards Iran and others "don't pose a serious threat to us." (On the contrary. Islamic Iran is dangerously apocalyptic. Soviet Russia was not.) The next day in Billings, Mont.: "I've made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave."

That's the very next day, mind you. Such rhetorical flailing has done more than create an intellectual mess. It has given rise to a new political phenomenon: the metastatic gaffe. The one begets another, begets another, begets ...

interestingly
Krauthammer's opinion here would be a lot more compelling if the policies he has been advocating for the last 8 years had not proven to be such abysmal failures.

And so we have the curious spectacle of someone who has been wrong about everything calling someone naive for not wanting to stick with what doesn't work.

If we think that our enemies are smarter than we are, then obviously it makes sense to avoid negotiating with them. That may explain why Bush should not be involved in negotiations. But it is odd to think that in general American Presidents will not be capable of handling a religious nut like Ahmadinejad, or for that matter a Castro or Kim.

interestingly
Lon must forgive me, but despite being a regular reader of Mr. Krauthammer's opinions I seem to have missed all those columns in which "the policies he has been advocating" proved to be "such abysmal failures". Perhaps he could enlighten me with one single example.
Lon's man Obama, of course, does not have that problem, not even potentially, at least in the eyes of his devotees. Having adopted a foreign policy that takes alternate sides of every issue on alternate days, Mr. Obama is certain to have a record of supporting whatever proves to work. He also supports whatever fails, but his devotees will forget about that, and it would certainly be racist for any of the rest of us to bring it up.

materialist
Lon calls Ahmedinejad, Castro, and Kim Jung Il 'nuts' and then asserts that a president can negotiate with them. Forgive me, but doesn't the first assumption negate the second?

Which way is the wind blowing now?
The fact remains...Barak Obama has been talking out both sides of his arse for this entire campaign.
A few recent examples if I may -

On Sunday May 18 Barry told us (mockingly) in casual dress with his shirt sleeves rolled up -
Cuba, Venezuela, N.Korea & Iran are "tiny" compared to the Soviet Union in its day. Iran poses no threat to us and, had no nuclear weapons.

But in a speech two days later on May 20 the novice candidate that is Obama put on a suit, a stern face & a Lapel Flag Pin then told us -
Iran is a "holocaust denyer who is persuing nuclear weapons" etc etc etc

In another speech this week he asserted that "anyone making 250 thousand dollars a year IS RICH anywhere in this country."

But it wasn't too long ago that Michele Obama was assuring us that she knew how hard it was on us...she used the opportunity to say how her & Barak couldn't afford to repay their student loans (though they've been repaid since).
When she made the declaration the Obama's combined income was 285 thousand a year...whuzup wit dat?

And though he may be dancing as fast as he can now on the issue...there are audio & video recordings of Barry saying "without pre-conditions..."
Of course now that Richardson is around he is using the defense of "with preparations"...
Ummm, that is experienced ambassador-speak for WITH pre-conditions...
But Richardsons words now can't erase Barry's words then.

Barak Obama + Affirmative Action = Educated Idiot

Lon is not known for honesty, just obfuscations and grand standing superiority, which is a hoot and a hollar.

Obama is willing to negotiate cause he is willing to surrender, unconditionally to the mad man in Iran.

Best thing for America Obama can do, is go talk to the terrorists without preconditions and get his ignorant head chopped off.
The only thing he can do for America thats worth while.

Lon - read it & weep
"When JFK met with Kruschev in Vienna without preparation (no preconditions), Kruschev took his measure and decided JFK was an amateur at world politics. One year later he built the Berlin Wall and, the following year put missiles in Cuba."

"Iran is the #1 state sponsor of terrorism. They killed 241 Marines during the Reagan Administration in the bombing of their barracks in Beirut. They killed another group of Americans in the Khobar Towers. They have consistently been supporting the elimination of Israel and attacks on the US."

"So to call this 'tiny' when they were assisting for instance, AS THE 9/11 COMMISSION DEMONSTRATED, they were assisting Al Qeada, training them, giving them free passage to prepare for the 9/11 attacks...shows a naivite I think."

No wonder Barak Hussein Obama CHANGED his tune from May 18 to a new tune on May 20...
Yup...change we can believe in for sure...just wait out one or two news cycles and he'll change everything he stands for.

Liberal mentality
This is an interesting and plausible thesis, but I just don't know. I think Obama, being the limp wrist that he is, really did mean that he would talk to them, but liberals are metaphysical subjectivists. Words can mean anything and nothing to a liberal. So while "talking to them" sounds good to him, he actually thinks something like, "I don't have any moral objections to talking to them. However, I may not use that approach if I deem it impractical. If it is impractical, I will use another approach, and when I do, I will point out the similarities, no matter how superficial, between the new approach and talking to them so that I can argue that I am being consistent and authentic."

Whew! Getting into the mind of a liberal is painful, but necessary.

A long time ago, In a parallel universe
Adolf Hitler invited the Czech premier(?) to Berlin to 'negotiate' a mutual protection pact. Hitler needed the Czech ballbearing factories BADLY for his war machine.

The 70 something year old Czech sat at one end of a 30 foot table, Hitler sat at the head of the table 30 feet away.
When the Czech old man refused to accept Hitler's terms, two burly SS men in the room drew their SS Daggers and proceed to stalk the man around the table, picking up their pace as the laps increased.
When the Czech collapsed in a chair the two SS men drew closer and the Czech, thinking he was in the throes of a heart attack did the wise thing, he signed the treaty and Czecheslovakia was annexed by the Nazi's.
A true story.

Today, I'mInAjihad is conducting the same type of diplomacy by proxy (Hezbollah) in Lebanon.
But too many Libs think of this TINY country (please take a look at a map) run by this TINY man as "No Threat" To Anyone.
History lessons I have retained tell me otherwise.

Wendy: I enjoyed your post
But watch out: You have to be a cognitive contortionist to follow liberal logic, and you don't want to sprain something in the effort.

Take Lon for example: American foreign policy for the past 8 years has been an abysmal failure because the Euros aren't building temples to President Bush and Uncle Sam on their most hallowed grounds. By that measure, American foreign policy has been entirely abysmal, with the exception of a graveyard in France and a huge statue that the French sent us because they couldn't find any place in France to put it where they wouldn't have to look at it themselves.

Our only hope for President Obama's foreign policy is that it will be Mr. McGoo-like, that is, dangerously blind and entirely haphazard but ingeniously lucky. Sans the luck, we're in for a very rough ride, indeed far rougher than the one President Carter took us on.

"rhetorical flailing"
Having had to watch & listen to him over the past months, it strikes me that he enjoys nothing more than to hear himself talk. I don't find it surprising that, like Clinton, he was raised in the home of a salesman.
With Barry, expect that the old saw will doubly apply: "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS."
Snake-oil, anyone?
Another BRILLIANT column, Mr Krauthammer.

Town Hall runs exclusively anti-Obama
However the sheep keep on coming. I just hardly ever see a pro Obama article on the Web, but the sheep keep on coming. The man's wife is a disgrace to America, but the sheep keep on coming. He has a good brain for talking but a weak brain for living, but the sheep keep on coming.

I guess we need some horney sheep herders.

What do you expect from a drug user
Obama has also been VERY clear about his past (and what I believe to be his current) DRUG USE, specifically cocaine, aka crack cocaine.

Is it any wonder he would have "gaffes" like this?

Why should anyone be surprised?

...and then there's his WIFE, he said is the "most beautiful woman in the world," a whole 'nother GAFFE.

JUST SAY "NO" TO "O"

What is a gaffe,anyway?
The archaic defiition of "gaffe": an accident of speech wherein a politician says what he really thinks".

This can't apply to Obama. He doesn't know what he really thinks.

Charles Krauthammer is right!
Outstanding observations that all should heed.
Obama is an out-of-control flake when it comes to foreigh policy...he will do more damage in his first 30 days than can be imagined...The rest of the world must think America has gone totally mad to be even considering electing such a flip-flopping neophyte.

I've changed my mind about Hillary:
I used to think that President Rodham would be the worst disaster for the U.S.... but that was before Obama came along!

negotiations and appeasement
you people dont know the half of it. WE plan things to conced that you havent even begun to dream of yet. forget the middle east, theyre gone from day one. weve got pepole in the wings just panting , anxious to get there. how about the pananma canal. and an abrogation of the Monroe Doctrine, Day 15. immediate severene of of ambassadorsh=ip with canada and movemnt of many if not most of our militry to the border Dat 45. cneced any kind of guardianship iover any territory presently a part of us . day after tomorrow. and thats just a beginning. my latest info is that obama is so anxious to conced to th terrorists that he will demand from bush the right to do so during the period between the timehe is elected and the innauguration. bush, being the blockhead he is, is expected to accept.and thats just in foreith affairs, keep tuned, youll soon be privy to our [policies on social programs. before you read it make sure you empty your bowels.

The Good News
Cheer up, Townhallers, if Barack Obama is elected president we will have the first Affirmative Action President in the history of our nation.

Policy
Sen Obama seems to lack not only experience in office, but lacks the ability to admit mistakes and to harbor really dangerous ideas on how to run this country. Why doesn't the main stream press look into these little character flaws and little flaws in judgement? As always the article was insightful and scary.

Obama does not understand religion
When talking about *discussions* with Iran, Obama reveals the superficial nature of his understanding of messianic religion (even though he clearly believes himself to be a Messiah). A man whose mind is fixed on the next world has no interest in the current world, and unlike the USSR in the Cold War Days, is not constrained by the thought that he and his will also be destroyed. He and his WANT to be destroyed, because this apocalypse is what will bring the Islamic Messiah to Earth.

Obama has adopted his *religion* as a political move, and has said on many occasions that he has no such fervor nor does he even understand it.

Obama should rent a copy of *Independence Day* and pay close attention to the scene in which the President asks the alien *What do you want us to do?* and the alien says *Die.*

Its really hard to negotiate with that.

What's the Problem?
I'll admit this is oversimplification but the only preconditions for negotiations I've ever insisted upon was [1] that all participants be "patted-down" for weapons, [2] a full urn of strong coffee, and [3] a bathroom near at hand. I spent my entire career as a civil litigation manager [although I'm not a lawyer] as the principle negotiator of a broad range of high impact disputes [thousands of them] across the country. I never missed an opportunity to "negotiate" with my adversaries...and some were the nations most formidable [and often arrogant] lawyers. I made a strong effort to be adequately prepared, of course, but I've seldom found face-time with my "enemy" to be a waste of time. We often let pig-headed nationalistic pride, and a dogmatic refusal to compromise [we can't always have our way], keep us from reaching a livable resolution.

Jim-Too

Truman was no fool ...
Truman was no fool! But, John Kennedy was! Now we have Obama who wishes to be a fool! Clinton, with all her warts, is no fool. I sure would vote for Clinton way before Obama. But, I am a conservative! Thus, I will really not be able to vote for either one!

No Substitute for Victory
How do you negotiate with an enemy sworn to kill you such as Iran vs. Israel? Perhaps agree that your enemy take just an arm or a leg or maybe just one city?

When you accept the premise of your antagonist you have already lost the battle.

Negotiations ?
Time has taught us that when you Negotiate with a MAD MAN or Ahmadenijad type
IT is like our failed Negotiations with the Dear Kim Father and Son 58 years later now and no treaty with .N Korea
and oh bye the way they are still making Nuke's and sending the plans to SYRIIA and IRAN .
There was no Negotiating with Hitler , or Toe Joe of Japan .
When any Country makes a deal with a Mad man like Ahmadenijad
that country ends up being the Victum .
Mad men's rules for negotiating ...... You WIN or they win ,
Bin Laden , Al QUADA and the Teliban understands that Oboma doesn't .
How you Negotiate with a mad man is you say YOU DISARM NOW DIE .
No WINNERS HAS EVER DISARMED IN WORLD HISTORY THAT THOUGHT THEY WERE WINNING MR OBOMA !
AMERICA GET THAT SPOILED ELITE SISSY OUT OF HERE !

For ConstantGardener (#3)
It never hits the mindset of groats such as Lon that their ideas are contradictory--though not all of them make onagers' rear-ends of themselves as Lon did.

Obama ill prepared to be President
Obama would be worse than Jimmy Carter. He is totally inexperienced and shows little wisdom in significant matters.

let's change a few of the circumstances.
For the sake of argument, what if the USSR, at the zenith of its power, had launched a nuclear attack on Israel?

A preemptive attack...you know, Bush and the neocons' favorite kind.

What would the United States have done?

Some here seem to suggest the interests of Israel and those of the United States are identical.

Are they?

It is all too easy for some to magnanimously place the United States in the crosshairs of a puny state like Iran, were the U.S. to resort to war to defend Israel.

But what if, instead of Iran, the USSR attacked Israel?

Would those same folks be as magnanimous about placing the lives of the people of the United States in severe peril from an attack by the USSR over our decision to go to war for Israel?

I think then we would see that Israel was not so essential to the survival of the United States.

My point?

Only that it depends on just how harshly the rubber meets the highway...the degree of the threat, and the power of the opponent threatening the Jewish state.

Easy to be magnanimous when so little is placed in jeopardy in our Beloved homeland.

Don't get me wrong.

I have nothing against Israel. She has a right to exist.

But I don't see our interests are identical to hers, even as there is much about her that is commendable.

And I too think Krauthammer is too fixated on the survival of Israel.

Lon
Part of the problem is how words are perceived, particularly when spoken by a President or Presidential candidate. As Mr. Krauthammer notes, we are already "talking" with Iran through various channels, just as they are "talking" to us with their actions and pronouncements. Perhaps there will come a time when it is neccessary to have a face to face dialogue with them at a high level, on view to the world. I don't think anyone serious would preclude that possibility.

Personally, I do not believe, when push comes to shove, that Sen. Obama is naive enough that he would simply sit down to chat unconditionally with these "nuts" (your word). I am sure there would be pre-conditions of all types set down before he seriously considered it. The point is that he did not stop to think of the implications of what he was saying when he did say that. As Sen. Clinton pointed out, this is reckless and thoughtless. And it scares me that he didn't have the intellectual firepower to think it out the way Sen. Clinton did before she spoke.

Since I'm willing to grant that Sen. Obama simply made a gaffe while under pressure, and would be smart enough to do the right thing when crunch time comes; I hope you will also be charitible enough to realize that not every conservative is a war mongering "cowboy". If things were getting tense, and an emissary of Ahmadenijad approached a Republican president saying "We need to talk, we do not want a war with the US, we are prepared to have a reasonable discussion to avoid destruction", the Republican would not scuttle the communique, execute the messenger, and push the nuclear button.

I Don't Understand???

Another Insightful and Articulate article by Charles Krauthammer!

There are many highly Intelligent Conservatives in our midst.

Thomas Sowell, Michelle Malkin, Michael Steele, and Charles Krauthammer are perfect examples.

So how did the GOP end up with a Lying arrogant liberal like McCain???

Why has the GOP turned into the Liberal-Lite Party???

Talking equals success
One thing I've noted about people who argue that B.O. should talk to Iran, N. Korea & Co. is that they believe future disasters will be thwarted thereby. To sustain this belief, they point to past disasters which followed America's not talking to the evildoers, e.g. Mao enslaves China, Stalin enslaves Eastern Europe, the Ayatollas take Americans hostage, etc. Of course, this premise falls apart unless America's talking to the evildoers would have changed their ways.

Since there's no evidence that this would have been the case, and since the crushing weight of history shows the opposite to be true, one wonders which world B.O. supporters happen to be living in. Physicists studying the possibility of alternate dimensions & universes should definitely interview these people.

You Must Be Delusional
Change, Change, Change !!! That is the only thing heard by the stupid idealist that wish to risk everything for a vague dream. To talk of political specifics, like this article, is like trying to convince women the unborn have rights. They have always been tone deaf to any argument against abortion. Now the "wall sticker" is CHANGE--that is the only issue to the wild eyed worshippers of the vacuous minded Obama. People will not reason once committed to a delusion that defies rational understanding and discussion. Does anyone on this board believe rational arguments about Jews carried any weight during the Nurnberg Rallies? All they heard or wanted to hear was "Sieg Heil", "Sieg Heil". On our shores it is; CHANGE, CHANGE !!

Short of military action
He would have nothing to bring to the table. We're already doing everything we alone can do. So he'd go empty handed to a negotiation?
Genius.
(Unless of course he thinks he could just pay Mahmoud off...)
Blunderboy didn't think this through. He's probably a nice guy, but he's no strategist.

If Obama becomes president
he, like every other president, will do what he has to do as contrained by the circumstances that occur. Sometimes you have to negotiate, if only to stall for time -- sometimes you have to take military action. It is not possible for the US to invade every country that is our enemy. The Iraq war was a huge mistake (and was actually the biggest favor we could have done for Iran) but we are stuck there now until Iraq is at least somewhat stable, and probably forever to prevent Iranian interference -- which also further limits the military options.

Only my personal impression
but doesn't it seem Obama is so arrogant that when he makes a gaffe he can't back down? He trusts his intellect, his association with leftists of all kinds and his gut instincts. This is scary if he is to become president. I would feel far safer with Hillary.

With the republican brand in such ill repute, the possibility of a terrible sweep for the democrats looms. I am tempted to work for Hillary because of my fear of Obama.

Bob
You're quite right: he wouldn't really do what he said. It was a gaffe.
Like "hammering Canada on NAFTA". Another gaffe. He wouldn't really do it. His supporters don't seem all that interested in what he'd REALLY do. They just want him to BE.

Advisors would have alot of explaining and educating to do with the naif in office, explaining why he shouldn't do some of the things he's proposed.
He is a quick study, so he'd probably get it. But he's got lots more gaffes and mistakes to make (the true meaning of not ready for prime time).
You point out the real problem: that he didn't already know. I think he has the intellectual firepower. he's just too new at this.

Obama is a child
Historically speaking... Democrats are horrible at foreign policy. It requires too much mental clarity for most of them to handle. Obama would be the very worst president (making Carter look good)...simply because he is a "tall child" with no real experience.

Have you ever noticed the before and after time lapse pictures of presidents? The president always looks very old then when they started...not just aged, but "old". Do you know why? Because the job is extremely hard. It is not the place for the inexperienced. McCain is so tough he would probably look young coming out of the presidency.

To think that Obama is the best the Dems can produce is mind numbing.

I am starting to think all liberals have tumors in their heads.

Krauthammer the spin monkey
The one we really have to worry about is McCain. First of all, he apparently doesn't even realize that Ahmadinijad isn't the real leader of Iran. He was challenged on this the other day by Joe Klien and he insisted that Ahmadinijad was the real leader. Talk about dangerously ill-informed! Also, like Bush, he doesn't seem to have any understanding that there are differences between Sunni and Shiite.

First of all, the Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, also thinks we should be talking to Iran. And I just heard a report on NPR yesterday that Iran has been signaling to the UN that they are ready to stop their enrichment process and to help with terrorism.

Does anyone here realize that Iran actually offered to help us against the Taliban after 9/11?

In my opinion, the Bush administration has been trying to create a conflict with Iran. I think the Iranians are far more reasonable than the war monger neocons want us to believe. What's really going on here is that people like Krauthammer are worried that Obama will reveal that fact. Which will totally discredit the neocon policy of endless, baseless belligerence.

The Republicans have made an absolute mess of our foreign policy. Obama will probably make a mistake or two. Every president does. But it's not possible to make as many huge mistakes as Bush has. Time to try something different.

Vote for change.

Obama 08!

Phylo out.

Bob's #30 Reply
Very thoughtful.

I still find Obama's lack of judgment very troubling.

But I think your comment that folks should be charitible enough to realize that not every conservative is a war mongering 'cowboy'...", to be worthy of fine cigar.

If matters became tense and Ahmadinejad did send an emissary to talk to our president about trying to avert a war, and where the Iranians were prepared to have a responsible discussion to avoid destruction, the president or his representative would certainly meet with him.

And if our president did not, then he would be irresponsible and not deserving of the office.

And probably impeachable.

Jim
With some due respect, there's alot of difference between your mediations and what's being discussed here.
As a mediator, you're an objective outsider working with two sides who have competing incentives, and there is a higher authority (the court) who will decide if they don't.

He speaks of carrots and sticks. Well, we're already employing all the sticks we can (sanctions) short of a bomb. Mahmoud hopes to outlast the current president in hopes the next one will ease up or offer to pay him $$ (carrots). That's what Clinton did with Kim Jong Il--see how that worked out?

Obama
My fear is that he is a "sleeper". That he will support muslims over Americans. His background and his distain for "whites" (even though he is one) make him our first affirmative action presidential candidate. What a joke.

Read the book 'Liberal Fascism'
That contains all the information you need to know why America-hating kooky commies like Lon and Phylo love terrorists so much.

Nuff said.

Would You Really Feel Safe
with Obama as President? If America was attacked again, what would he do, sit down and talk about how they hurt us and ask them to promise not to do it again?

Obama is a disgrace to the Democratic Party and everyone knows it, but they will never give up and will march us directly into another war that none of us can ever picture.

I really think if anyone with half a brain would think about what he says and how he acts, would NEVER VOTE for such a person to be President.

McCain may not do everything you wish for, but I do think he has more brains in his little finger then Obama has in his head. I for one would feel much safer about what went on in the world if we had a Commander-in-Chief who valued our Constitution and our service men/women more then someone who thinks he is the best thing since peanut butter.

Joy

Yet another brilliant essay.
Hits the nail right on the head. Proves, once again, that Obama is no more deserving of a presidency than any newly minted lawyer. Also, reveals another Obama personality flaw. He cannot admit error. Rather, he will go down with the ship. Actually, that makes sense when your only asset is a cool styly of presentation.

jerebaub
I don't believe you can compare Russia attaking Israel the same as Iran attacking Isreal.Israel could not stand up to Russia superior force, plus the distance they are apart. However Isreal has enough fire power to wipe Iran off the map.We would not have to help Israel if attacked by Iran.So lets assume that Russia attacked Israel.Should or could we defend Israel. After the soviets bombed Israel would there be anything to support. If Israel was left with some means of defending herself are you suggesting we do nothig? If so where would you draw the line on soviet aggression?

Dear Chuckinator
Once upon a time the Republican party was a private club. You had to be a special person to be a member of this party. Now they never really had much control of anything, but they got invited to all the very best parties in Washington, and were treated kindly and given scraps on occasion.

Then, the evil Ronald Regan came along and ruined everything. He started telling people that we had to do things differently. And that brought out the "Religious Right."

To the party purists this "Religious Right" was a thing to be tolerated indeed, but for crying out loud, why couldn't they just vote and shut the heck up after the election.

Over the years since 1994 the elite of the Republican party have worked tirelessly to bring the party back to its minority status and to try to get a little less flack from the MSM.

Their Revival in 1996 with Bob Dole didn't go as planned, and they had to suffer the indignities of Bush II in 2000.

But now they have the opportunity to put the Republican party -BACK ON TRACK- with John McCain.

just my thoughts

jd

I too have missed the abysmal failures
of Charles Krauthammer's opinions. Having lived the history of WW II on, I have been very aware of how little Obama knows about our nation's history and the policies (failed and successful) of our previous presidents. He seems to believe that his judgement is superior in all aspects of American life. I believe he is wrong in his judgements. I wish he had time to study American as well as world history. He might learn some facts upon which to exercise judgement instead of talking off the top of his head. He may be intelligent but surely lacks the knowledge and experience to make sound and reasoned judgements.
As an Independent voter I read widely before I fall for either party line. I only wish Obama would read something other than the socialist/Marxist thinking.

Dear Joy
John McCain was a prisoner of war (gaining some REAL foreign policy experience) longer than BHO has been a U.S. Senator.

I agree that he's not the candidate for me, but unfortunatly he's all we've got because the blue bloods won't retire and allow the Republican Party to get with its base.

Obama Unfit to be President
Obama is pretty impressive, when he delivers a prepared speech, but is a disaster when it comes to answering unanticipated queries. His lack of experience, ignorance, and naivete' is glaringly apparent. He is not qualified to be President of the United States. The idea that it might actually happen is chilling, indeed. It's bad enough that he seems totally unable to calculate the cost of his domestic proposals, and their impact on the economy... he has not a clue how to deal with international threats.

Have hated the grueling length of the campaigns, but candidates have had enough time to hang themselves with their own words. I trust the American people to make the proper decision on election day. Obama needs to be sent home to grow up.... and resist the urge to blame his defeat on "racism", instead of his own shortcomings.

The Big Con
BHO is one of the greatest hucksters ever to come out of Washington.

But he’s still in the classic mold of Bait-and-Switch.

He talks of Hope and Change in the context of the individual striving for success and then lays out a collectivist solution. His collectivist solution will ultimately smash any and all chances for the individual to achieve.

He speaks of change without ever telling people What Change!

Here’s a little enlightenment;

Free Citizen – to – Slave is Change
Rich – to – Poor is Change
Achieving Goals – to – Stagnant is Change
Alive – to – Dead is Change
Representative Republic – to – Dictatorship is Change

Face it, were it not for his Chicago buddies putting him on the Fast-Track to political success he’d be selling used cars.

Please note my official apology to all used car salesmen in the U.S.A.

B. Hussein and Michelle Obama

The Obama Doctrine
1. Always talk to your enemies unless it is OPEC in which can you should sue them.
2. Invade your allies. No use in talking such allies (a.k.a. Pakistan) into pursuing terrorists.
3. Talk about how we need to increase our stature in the world, but not at the expense of your trade protectionist special interest buddies. Columbia can just screw itself. Why should we risk pissing off enemies like Hugo Chavez anyway?
4. Value the endorsement of Hezbollah and thank them for comparing you to JFK.

Same comments as last week
Didn't I read this same column last week, maybe by someone else? Krauthammer makes the same mistakes as last weeks.

Leverage: Whatever makes K think that a country like Iran gains leverage if Obama meets with one of its leaders? That's not leverage.

The standard recitation of a market exchange is that two people with equal knowledge and power agree to make an exchange. The only leverage is that each person has something the other wants.

I'm Taking A Break
The idea that this intellectual pygmy is poised to take the Presidency on a wave of votes from brainless morons who think that the weak and vacillating Bush policies were 'Cowboy Diplomacy' fills me with dread and horror so I'm digging a backyard bomb shelter ala the 1960s so that when Obama's negotiations are as disastrous as the ones between Kennedy and Khrushchev I'll have somewhere to hide from the results. The problem is not one policy or another but the fact that they strategic philosophy that underlies liberal thinking on foreign policy is so absurd and irrational that it can only lead to catastrophe. Will a malignant leftist like Ward Churchill be our Secretary Of State or just some hapless Joe Biden-type buffoon. And while we install some incompetent, groveling leftie as Sec Of State we can count on the geniuses in Congress led by a Speaker from Sodom and a Senate Majority Leader from Gomorrah to be lodging lawsuits against our adversaries and attempting to confiscate their assets in this country, a recipe for economic collapse. People like to use Roman Empire analogies and I usually avoid it but the rule of the emperor Honorius comes to mind here.

Who Says Iraq is A Disaster?
1)Since 2003 over 5000 forgein Al Qaida fighters have died in Iraq or have been captured. Most of these fighters came from Pakistan, Europe, Egypt, Algeria, and Indonesia.

2)Iran now has to contend with 2 unfriendly nations on its borders. How long before Shias in Iran will want the same freedons as those in Iraq?

3)The US now has a presence deep in the bowels of the terror ridden Middle East. Iran cannot just plan global operations without first casting a fearful eye to its east and west.

4)Most importantly, Bin Ladan decided to make his stand against the US in Iraq. In 5 years he has squandered his foregin terror army, his $100 million purse and his standing amongst arabs. Al Qaida was defeated not in Afghanistan, but Iraq. His days of planning and launching global terror operations are over.

Iran and Syria today stand as the lone powers who outright support state sponsored terrorism. Yet, because of our presence in Iraq our fighter bombers are only minutes from dropping JDAMs on thier respective capitals. A decade ago, a troika of Iran, Iraq, and Syria not to mention Al Qaida posed serious strategic threats to the world. We are better off than we were in 1998. If you don't think so, just visit lower Manhatten.

Reminds me of that line
in the movie Armageddon. The guy is asking about the environment they can expect on the asteroid and says, the scariest environment imaginable, thats all ya gotta say, the scariest environment imaginable. Barak Obama is the scariest presidential candidate imaginable but, the really cool part is, the country would survive him. I am not saying he would do no harm, he may do plenty of harm to us and others but, we would survive. That is about all I am hoping to accomplish the next four years.

You continue to offer intellect without wisdom.

If Obama meets with Ahmadinnerjacket without preconditions, this Iranian nutjob gets immediate status and "cred" which will be al-Jazeera propaganda fodder for years.

Obama Question ?
Sorry guys this is a different subject. But I was wondering what is Obama's stance on reparations ?
I'm asking republicans not democrats because I know the dems will spin.
Does anyone know if he is in favor of reparations ? If the answer is yes this could be a hugh issue for the republicans. I'm assuming he is in favor because he listened to Wright for 20 years.
The american people will need the answer to this question. A simple yes or no.
I think the average Joe would be horrified to find out more of our tax dollars would be going to some low life drug dealing criminal.
Inquiring minds want to know ?

sad sad republicans/conservatives...
I really feel sorry for you guys..i really do.
the republican party is in disarray. the highly unpopular prez bush has all but destroyed the
republican brand and is a albatross around all your candidates necks up for re-election..the iraq war is equally as unpopular. you got a bad economy with high gas/food prices. the vast majority of the american public believe the country is on the wrong track and are hungry for change to put it back on the right track..
you got a republican prez nominee in Sen. McCain whom consevatives absolutely destest.

Now wonder youre depressed and frustrated...

to add to your depression and frustration you got a young inspirational democratic wunderkind in Sen. Barack Obama who is transcending the status quo and absolutely nothing you can do is stopping his momentum toward winning the white house. you negative attempts of character assasination are not sticking to him much like your teflon coated hero ronald raygun.

Repubs/cons like mr. limbaugh keep talking about "the real" obama..my sense is that youre seeing him right in front of your eyes..what you see is what you get..it's just that you cant believe what youre seeing, that is that he is going to win the potus with relative ease come nov 08.

Dont you think you owe some compensation to the slaves you kept on your plantation all those years? Even the ones from Jamaica and Nigeria?

Krauthammer...

Too bad we can't round up the mesmerized among the Obamites, tie them down, plug their mouths, give them some kind of truth serum, place them under hypnosis, and play a tape recording of this column to them in a continuos loop for two or three weeks, or until such time as the gag can be removed and the subject does not immediately begin spouting inanities.

It should be obvious that when two respected editorialists make the same "mistake" perhaps it you who is making the mistake. With respect to the leverage you can't see the Iranians gaining in direct president to president talks it is not the Iranians collectively that would be gaining leverage it is Ahmadinejad who would be legitimized by such a meeting. The US for it's part would gain nothing but the negative of having helped legitimize it's enemy. According to western intellengence sources most Iranians, especially the young, interestingly, are opposed to the radical mulahs and Ahmadinejad especially. And what would there be to talk about? Ahmadinejad has made it clear that he simply wants the destruction of the US and Isreal. There are no specific and therefore negotiable, differences that he has ever spoken of, he just despises us for the fact that we do not believe as he and other radical Muslims do. The only way we could please the radicals is to convert to their brand of radical Islam and denounce Isreal, the only democracy in the Middle East. Does that make sense to you?

Krauthammer the Revisionist Historian
After reading this I felt a need to correct some falsehoods that Hammer perpetrated on his readers.
1st Iran dismantled its nuclear program in 2003
2nd Hamas has already been recognized by the gov't of Lebanon, and given veto power

Now, onto the idea of pre-conditions. The only real preconditions we want from rogue states are do what we say & don't question it. Then we will shower you with money & positive rhetoric, no matter what you do with your populace. I mean how many times have we supported and propped up regimes that don't fit the democratic mold and have it come back to bite us? 2 relevant examples, Iraq, once hailed by the U.S. as the model Islamic Republic, and Panama, where we trained the insurgency that eventually spawned MS-18, the biggest & most vicious gang currently terrorizing the poor in this country. You can throw in Saudi arabia, who we only love because of their oil and colombia who we only support because they are a client state in our "war on drugs", which after 30 years still has no end in site.
Obama's tactic is about basic negotiation philosophy, and that is that "before any resolution can ever be reached between opposing parties, they must have both had a chance to have their feelings acknowledged" - a paraphrase from the Harvard negotiation project. Also from this same literature, "the most effective negotiations happen when a group of no more than 3 decision makers are talking. All the go betweens do is eat time. Obama is trying to establish a dialogue to start a process, that's it. All preconditions are good for is entrenching opposing parties in their position.

A flaccid intellect
When Obama made his July 23 gaffe, it revealed a total lack of serious thought on the most serious matters a president would face. The lack of a rational answer to the question shows that he considers such vital matters undeserving of serious attention. This man possesses a dangerously flaccid intellect.

Charles is right: now that Obama has espoused a juvenile and treacherous policy, he is too proud to back away, and has now enshrined it. Every "Death to America" jihadist is praying to Allah for Obama to win in November, but they will be sorely disappointed. On November 4 the voters will make electoral road kill out of this buffoon.

Washington Times: Republican Disarray..
this are an excerpts from a article published in the highly conservative right wing Washington Times yesterday..It should be noted that they are calling the campaign of Dem. Sen
Barack Obama "INNOVATIVE" will wonders never cease?

"The Republican Party has lost much credibility among its base and has not yet established a comprehensive general election strategy or platform. This portends disaster as the general election is only five-and-half months away.

The measures outlined by Republicans do not go far enough to address the crisis at hand within the party — and the challenge presented by the "innovative" candidacy of the likely Democratic nominee, Barack Obama. The Republican Party will not be able to easily assault Democrats as being fiscally irresponsible — nor will they succeed in merely tagging Mr. Obama as another tax-and-spend liberal. Republicans have repeatedly betrayed their own principles on fiscal matters and will be pegged by Democrats as being hypocrites.

Furthermore, the party is not yet ready to combat an Obama campaign that promises bipartisanship and is galvanizing the anti-Washington vote. Republicans are still preparing to fight an old battle — that of 2000 or 2004 — rather than the one emerging in 2008."

What exactly would Obama negotiate?
Ahmadinijad wants to destroy Israel, so does Obama compromise and only allow Iran to destroy half?

Ahmadinijad wants to kill every Jew, so do we meet them halfway?

Iran wants to have nuclear weapons, so does Obama come up with a brilliant plan and insist they get rid of them by dropping them on Israel?

The mullahs say, 'death to America.' I frankly don't know how to negotiate this one, but I hope and pray we never have to find out.

I have my own compromise in mind. Let's make Obama president, of Iran!

Other Democrats dilemma
What are senior Democrats who support Obama to do?

They know his position on meeting with enemy leaders if pure folly, and many are on record as opposing such action. Yet they cannot criticize their candidate on a major plank on his foreign policy platform.

Watch as Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Hillary Clinton, and whoever ends up being his running mate, twist themselves into logical knots on this one.

BTW I suspect Obama may have a tougher time finding a running mate than people expect. Democrats are still essentially racists, and many would prefer to avoid the image of being subservient to a black man.

JPK
Well said. We are much safer today than we were 8 years ago. I remember walking through the Seattle airport in 1998 thinking that anyone with a bomb could get on an aircraft and no one would be the wiser. Low and behold 3 yrs later we got 9/11.
I've said this before but I think it bears repeating since the left keeps throwing out the misconception that the policies over the last 8 yrs have been disastrous.
The decision to invade Iraq was a stroke of genious for whoever thought it up. Instead of running all over the world trying to round up terrorists and chasing false lead after false lead, the US has made a stand in Iraq and the terrorists have flocked to us. While we have experienced losses and the Iraqi people have suffered even more losses, the terrorists are exactly where we want them. We've been able to track their whereabouts, identified their funding and training sources, and killed or captured thousands that would otherwise have been taking out targets all over the world. When Bin Laden started this war, I believe the furthest thing from his mind was that we would have the guts to take him on in his own backyard with the stakes so high for his ideology.

materialist
I had in mind Krauthammer's various articles showing that now finally things were going well in Iraq, each one a subtle acknowledgement that the previous one was false. But since you are a regular reader of his column perhaps you remember some of his deeper gems, like his statement after the Iraq invasion, but while the Bush adminstration was still denying the existence of a serious insurgency that people who said that the war would be difficult and extended had been proven wrong. What a clown.

But an even better example was when Krauthammer pointed to the Cedar Revolution as showing that because of Bush democracy was on the march in the region. (Do you remember he Cedar revolution, that was the peaceful revolution in Lebanon which contrary to Krauthammer's optimism didn't really take. Just this week a deal was reached to give Hezbollah veto power over Lebanese decision making).

I would hope if you are really a regular reader, you could come up with examples of your own. Basically just find any column in which he makes a concrete prediction, and you have one in which he spouts nonsense.

Who Supports Obama ?
1. College students and the young--These people don't pay taxes; they don't work. They are Socialist with out money to support Socialism. They live off their parents or the government. They are stupid idealist. They have nothing to lose.
2. Blacks. Supported by government programs; they want more. Don't pay taxes, earn too little or nothing. Socialist without money to support Socialism. They like the "hope" given them by Democrats, the same "hope" promised election after election. They are voting their color. They have nothing to lose.
3. The ignorant and uninformed. They work menial jobs and pay no taxes. They like Socialism but do not understand how it is paid for. They did not properly prepare themselves for life; high school drop outs, unwed Mothers and most harbor a persecution complex. Generally good people but they chase shadows and believe most anything. They have nothing to lose and no capability to evaluate themselves or anyone else.

That was one of the most asinine statements I read in a long time. Establish what dialogue, and what process? In case you haven't heard, there are currently 5 different dialogues and processes with Iran, and they've been ongoing for almost 5 years. And since they began Iran continues to get ever closer to making nuclear warheads (BTW, they already have the missles which can hit any capital in Western Europe).

You sound about as niave as your messiah Obama. But I have to hand it to you libs, you do love to talk.

The Edsel was "innovative." Stupid looking and an unmitigated disaster, but "innovative". What better strategy do republicans need than for Obama to continually stick his foot in his mouth and show how utterly naive and foolish his prescription for "change" is? Brilliant!

Liberal Dolts
Looks like we have the same old liberal dolts trying to justify Obama's utterly ridiculous policy on Iran.

They seem to forget that Bush is not running for POTUS in '08.

Iamsanspareil
If you are going to use a moniker like that shouldn't you make more unique arguments?

Anyway, there seems to be a problem with your reading comprehension based on your examples of his contradictions.

He said that Iran is a tiny threat compared with what we faced with the Soviet Union. A country with a religious nut who questions the holocaust and is pursuing a nuclear weapon (albeit at a rather indifferent pace) while having no effective delivery system is certainly a tiny threat when compared with the USSR which could have obliterated us with the press of a button. (Of course we could have done the same to them many times over).

Obama said that anyone who makes more than 250,000 dollars should count as rich. I didn't hear that quote but it seems reasonable enough from a policy perspective. At a time when the Obama's made 285,000 she said she could remember when they couldn't pay back their student loans? Whats up with that?

What is up with that is that the Obamas income has increased rather rapidly of late. And their memories are not so weak that they do not remember how hard it was to pay back their student loan before their income increased. Is that really a puzzle?

I assume that your use of non-contradictory statements to illustrate their habit of making contradictory statements is a sign that conservatives can't actually find really contradictions to use.

On Gaffes and History
I notice that there are two main points that our liberal enlightners make when attacking this article by Mr. Krauthammer. First they rush to the defense of what Mr. Krauthammer correctly refers to as an absurdity and then they try to give us their own version of history. History that only meets reality in what passes for texts on the subject in the indoctrination centers we call public education.

What is even more disturbing is the coalescence of the media to make an absurdity appear to be sound policy. The media is about to mount a propaganda campaign on a large segment of this nation that does not engage politics on web sites and alternative media forums such as these.

The good news is that the "drive-by" liberals that post on this site reveal the talking points and filibuster style arguments they intend to present. Drive-bys, we will be taking notes.

I called Ahmadinejad a religious nut. I don't believe either Castro or Kim was religious. And I no of no reason to think that Castro was ever nuts. Being wrong is not the same.

But despite Ahmadinejad's nutty religious pronouncements, Iran manages to function as a fairly normal self-interested state. So there is no reason to think that talks with them cannot be productive. Part of this, of course, is that contrary to what McCain has been telling people of late, Ahmadinejad does not actually set foreign policy for Iran.

Talks between leaders are not actually vacation junkets in which the leaders have some together alone time. In general they are interactions between large numbers of government bureaucrats from both sides.

It is possible that discussions in any of these cases would lead nowhere. But refusing to have them guarantees leading nowhere. And fetishizing such meetings the way Krauthammer does leads to the kinds of policy failures we have seen with just about every country we have refused to talk to.

ucanthandletruth
Where to start?

Iran dismantled its nuclear program? What about those six thousand new centrifuges they just announced to enrich uranium?

Hamas is in the West Bank and Gaza, not so much in Lebanon. That would be Hezbollah led by the fanatic Nasralluh who was given effective control over Lebanon.

I am sure the admonition by the Harvard guys to get in touch with your opponents "feelings" might be useful in labor management relations. I remember studying them over 15 years ago. Couple guys named Lax and Sebenius, I believe, wrote about something called the Pareto Frontier. This is the universe in which compromise is possible or an agreement possible. It represents all the possible combinations that either party might make. As long as the minimum requirements of both parties are within this frontier, agreement is possible although not predestined.

Think of it simply first like a car deal. If your maximum price you are willing to pay falls below the minimum price a dealer is willing to take, no Pareto frontier exists. No agreement is possible.

Thus, the Palestinians, for example, have made it clear from day one and have never changed that the minimum acceptable compromise is Israel's destruction, then negotiations are only possible if that condition is acceptable to them and they are willing to consider it in order to reach agreement. If this does not meet their minimum requirements to agreement, which I think might include living, then negotiations are a waste of time.

RCB
By the failures of our policies I had less in mind the failure of Europe to build temples to us, then the large number of dead soldiers resources squandered military assets weakened and enemies strengthened.

But if you think these things are not relevant to the success of our policies, I guess that is up to you.

Shouldn't our policies be aimed at weakening out enemies rather than strengthening them? I guess the advantage of strengthening enemies like Iran is that we then have an excuse for the next war.

Apollo, no offense, but your 9:17 posting was beyond silly.

So a U.S. nuclear retaliation for a Soviet nuclear attack on Israel, would be for the U.S. to nuke.....Cuba or North Vietnam?

If we never attacked North Vietnam during the Vietnam war when it was killing American troops, why the hell would we attack them in retaliation for a Soviet attack on Israel? (Recall LBJ's placing off limits so many North Vietnamese targets)?

Patently ridiculous.

My point only was to illustrate how fauxconservative "cowboys" are jumping at the bit to go to war with a pipsqueak Iran, but would not extend that same resolve toward the USSR.

Jax33, your 9:34 post has evidence of serious thought and question, unlike my buddy ApolloSpeaks 9:17. Apollo sometimes posts cogent comments, but this time I was disappointed by his offering.

I doubt very seriously that is what the highly conservative washington times was alluding to..if you had read further their comments you would have understood what they meant in so many words is obama is running a brilliant campaign that is attracting millions of new younger generation voters are not caught up in the status quo of yesteryear and they are propelling him to victory...

it's just that you repubs/cons are so caught up in your own web of hateful deceit and vindictiveness that you cant see it. youre gonna lose.

Bob
Yours was certainly the most thoughtful reply to what I said. But while you warned against the consequences of Obama's words, you did not give even a hint of what those consequences are.

Certainly presidents should take into account the consequences of their words. When someone like Bush claims that Hussein and al qaeda are working together, I assume the reaction in the middle east is that Americans can't tell the difference between arab nationalists and islamic terrorists. And the showing of willful ignorance in a region in which we are launching a war has to make out intentions look bad. There is a good example of how the President's words, in this case to whip up support for an invasion probably makes the success of the invasion less likely.

How does Obama's saying that he is willing to meet with hostile leaders without preconditions harm the United States? Or anyone else for that matter?

I usually go on to long explaining what I am saying. And here that usually gets ignored because people don't really care with there is support for what is being said. But I will stop here because this is just a question to you as to how you will fill out your point.

Your claim was that Obama is wrong because there is reason to believe that there are bad consequences to his saying what he did. What are those bad consequences? What is the reason for thinking they would occur?

SunThe1
Since the uber elite and uber rich (as you Socialisticly and dogmatically refer to the most successful among us) make up only 3-5% of the population and since he does not have all those, there is no threat in this area. I can assure you if Obama gets only 3% of the vote, he will not win.

Warrior
It may come as a shock to you, but most blacks are not supported by the government.

I do not think that your mistake is based on racism on your part, but rather the deliberate manufacturing of the image of the "poor helpless black victim". Most blacks are middle class, but that does not help the radical agenda, which requires a victim class and an oppressor.

Just the same, if Black America were a nation, it would be one of the wealthiest, most powerful nations in the world.

Jim - post 22
The fly in the ointment and the flaw in your thinking is that both sides would come to negotiations with the thought that a settlement will be reached and each will abide by the settlement. While that, apparently, has worked well for you in this country, you make the leap of imagination that leaders world-wide would hold and revere the same mind-set. I have a most difficult time believing that. When the agenda is more compelling than the solution, there will be no solution.

Should we not talk at all and hide in a closet? No; but, we shouldn't expect any state dinners accompanying any talks, either. All of the talks with Yassar Arafat came to naught. Look at that as a lesson in history. Arafat came, he negotiated, he went home and said the opposite of what was agreed to, and nothing changed.

On what do you base your assumption, for example, that Iran would ever be ready to accept Israel as a neighbor?

As a former soldier
I am all for talking with the enemy before battle. Here is the PROBLEM..While we casually type messages here looking for logical ways to solve world problems there are others who do not deal with logic. Our "enemy" has been taught since birth that his "GOD" told him that someday he will need to strap a bomb to himself and blow up others and himself, just to make a statement. It becomes obvious that our enemy is not using "logic". Therefore to say that a simple conference will stop them from doing what they do will not work. There is no level playing field for both parties and sometimes we will have to use force or risk being killed. It's a sad fact but that is the world we live in today!

In an age when nuclear weapons can be stored in a suitcase, a leader's gaffe can quickly lead to international catastrophe. Much of the nation (and most of his supporters) aren't aware of Obama's obvious ineptitude nor do they have the experience of the common sense to understand the terrible consequences of that sort of ineptitude were he to become president.

I guess we can rack Obama's popularity up as one more gift to America from leftist educators whose propaganda at best accompanies and too often replaces education. In a time of heretofore unheard of technology that allows for instant investigation and communication, our nation is filled with ignorance.

These are dangerous times and we need a serious and responsible press corps to investigate and research these important issues, instead of one that wasts its time trying to figure out new and clever ways to twist and distort the news to their own political agenda. The last thing we need is more misinformation pumped into the national conversation and yet that is exactly what leftist journalists often deliberately set out to accomplish.

preconditions vs preparations (1)
The one point from above that I think I missed was this idea that these two things mean the same thing. I suppose they could be used to mean the same thing, but in practice, at least in public debate they are used somewhat differently. Preconditions tend to be demands that the other side make public concessions before the negotiations begin. Prepartions tend to involve behind the scenes work to get to the point that the short time frame of a meeting is enough to get something done.

Understood this way, and I think that is how they are usually used in these debates, they are almost opposites in function.

preconditions vs preparations (2)
The Israeli/Palestinian conflict gives some examples of how these are different. Shortly after taking office, Haniyeh, the PM under Hamas, described a process by which a peace deal could be reached. Abbas would reach a deal with the Israelis. The deal would then be put before the Palestinian people in the form of a referendum. And if approved Hamas would have to accept the will of the people.

Why did he give such a roundabout method of approval which did not include himself or his party? Because there have been enough preparations laid over the year that everyone knows that the deal reached would violate the Hamas charter. But Hamas refuses to change its charter as a precondition to recognition. And so we get this idea of discussions with plenty of preparation, but no preconditions. (Of course Hamas often demands preconditions from Israel, and there is no reason to accede to those either).

Now I have no idea whether Hamas would actually go along with this program or was putting the idea out for domestic consumption. Maashal recently floated the same idea, but his referendum would include the refugees outside of the occupied territory making it less likely to pass.

But the point is that it is quite possible to have red lines that one refuses to cross in negotiations without demanding that the other side agree to them as preconditions. And in fact peace deals seldom get done if one insists that one side play its best cards before the negotiating even starts.

Speaking to our enemies
Senator Obama, albeit very smart and articulate, is so inexperienced and naive he should be addressed as "Sonny."

I can just imagine a negotiated meeting with these lunatics from Islam:

Islam: "the latter is preferred!"then the Islam

obama
Obama would be a disaster for the US.

maggie
since one of b hussein closest confideants is dorothy tillman, the former chicago city council woman finally losing an election after years of corruption, has long advocated for reparation payments.

Since obama has no difficulty surrounding himself with and listening to radicals and hate mongers why should anyone doubt he hasn't come to adopt their views.

But reparations remains a strawman. Should obama win the presidentcy there will be no blacks in the senate and with some 40 or so blacks in the house there is no way they will ever get a vote passed for such payments. No white politician is going to commit political suicide to support such an issue.

But the whole issue will become a real dividing issue should the discussion ever come up. This notion that you punish persons who had nothing to do with slavery or jim crow will never gain popularity.

But it seems within the black community there is the idea that blacks can carry the anger over slavery for unending years and continue to blame the rest of society through some notion of inherited guilt.

The great society of johnson was a govt attempt to overcome the effects of segregation and poverty. After some $40 trillion dollars have been spent through various entitlement programs it is long past time to see positive results rather than the endless draining of the treasury for these failed programs.

But the b hussein wants these programs expanded, so it seems he believes in reparations only through an indirect route

Classic!
Republican appeasement dope (Kevin James) gets smacked down by Chris Matthews. Wow embarrassing!

Not too fast
Let's pull back on the "Is Barack Smarter Than a Fouth Grader" stuff until he officially gets the nomination. Assuming he gets it the Dems will be lucky if he withdraws right before the election to avoid a stunning romp by McCain.

I realize Barack will have his blind support from the loons on the left but he does not have a prayer with the middle.

Nice piece Chuck. Fact is you don't have to look too far to find this stuff on BO

with no history of personal conviction over any issue other than those proposed by his mentor.master/father figure wright whp knows if he has any beliefs.

But the anti war left revels in the fantasy that murderous dictators can be fully engaged and their behavior will change for the betterment of their own people.

Since the muslims show no indication they will stop killing and murdering their own citizens why does b hussein think he will be this great catalyst for change.

Exactly what signals have the castro brothers, kim jong mentally ill, robert mugabe or chavez sent out that indicates they are open to any discussion. The left has always sent the message the more hardline you are the higher the bribes we will offer you to change your posisition and come to like us.

Being the leader of the free world is not a popularity contest no matter how much the left believes it. With b husseins naive understanding of america and his total lack of understanding anything about foreign policy how can he be anything but an unmitigated disaster for world peace

Exterme muslim leaders don't tend to blow themselves up. The find other people willing to die for them instead. The Russians, both pre-communism and during communism, also used to think of their people as cannon fodder, and fought in a way that preserved themselves.

So not really a huge difference. And it appears that you cannot imagine what a negotiating session looks like. But then you appear to share that with out current president. It will be a very good thing for this country when he becomes the former president for that reason among many.

What war are we winning in Iraq?

The war that resulted in the liberation of the Iraqi people to freely elect a "democratic" parliament that openly expressed solidarity with its hezbollah brothers in the fight against Israeli troops in Lebanon a year or so ago?

Is that the war we are winning?

Don't get me wrong. Its parliament can support whomever it chooses. But it is interesting it chose to find solidarity with an organization the U.S. has declared to be terrorist.

Or maybe the war we are winning is the one in which the venerated Shia cleric al-Sistani(according to AP wireservice reports today) declared his support for the very Iraqi insurgency responsible for the deaths of some of our troops?

And al-Sistani, thru his spokesperson, also asserted the U.S. has not even begun to pay for the damage it has caused Iraq.

Or maybe the war we are winning is the one where high Iraqi government officials are looting hundreds of millions, if not billions, of U.S. taxdollars destined for Iraqi "reconstruction", according to published reports and a U.S. senate inquiry.

Meanwhile, literally billions of dollars in Iraqi oil receipts sit idly in banks as the U.S. taxpayer, at the administration's behest, forks over more and more American dollars for Iraqi reconstruction.

"Don't leave til we bleed you dry"!

Don't get me wrong. Obama may well be worse.

I am a conservative, but G.W. Bush has cured me of my addiction to the Republican party.

But at the end of the day, it is a pig, not a flamingo.

And Bush owns it fair and square.

regards your reply to JPK about being more secure. ask a woman about the pain of childbirth and she will inevitably tell you that it wasnt so bad, lets have another baby. so it is with terrorists. they know that time takes care of most of the pain of most things, they will probably wait until they are good and ready and then do as they please. is there anyone wout there who doubts one second that when they get good and ready they will be pretty much able to commit any act of terrorism that they choose to. this is a big country withn long coastlines and shaky entry points. youve got to be blind to believe the bush and company or any other prs=esident can keep the terrorist out. they are perfectly willing, as has been shown may times., to keep on coming, sacrificing their lives ( a feat whichn i find very heroic by the way) to schieve an end. not to get too excited, just aware that it is going to happen, if they decide that they want it to happen. anyone know what color our alert status is? that worked about as well as any other method.we have tried and will try.

Trying to spin away the embarrassment
disasterbabe at 12:02 PM wrote this vain attempt to change the subject:

"Sweeping aside generalizations, name-
calling, myth-making and drum-beating for a moment, I also am wondering why, when the B. A. has used negotiating so extenively over the past 8 years they are not pretending that it has never existed."

Of course, this has nothing to do with Obama demonstrating his cluelessness. Nor is it remotely close to the truth: the Bush administration is very candid about the fact that it negotiates -- WITH PRECONDITIONS. Krauthamer is likewise very candid about this. OF COURSE talks go on, and always have, through backdoors and intermediaries. But that's not what Obama said, and no amount of lying by reflex apologists like disasterbabe is going to fix it.

Face it, db: the left has, as a central tenet, the belief that we can all just get along if we'd just get to know each other. Obama has used this precise approach at every stage of his career. His gaffe was like all other political gaffes -- it came closer to the truth of what he believes than he was willing to go. He GENUINELY BELIEVES that he can just sit down and talk with Ahmadinejad, and come to an understand that will Save The Planet.

He's a loon. So are you. And you're a liar, too.

Re: disasterbabe
In each of the instances you reference the leader in question met or exceed American preconditions for such a meeting. In some cases those preconditions were extremely low in the case of North Korea stop enriching Uranium and begin dismantling the NK nuclear weapons program. Which North Korea did then started up again and oddly enough we broke off talks. Libya had a preconditon of scrapping it's weapons of mass destruction programs which Libya in fact did scrap those programs. So, you can continue to drink the Obama koolaid, but your cites are specious and incomplete and your "facts" are actually opinion based upon your specious cites which leads inevitably to the liberal scatological conclusions.

You really should research the incidents you cite because they are too easy to Google to be good for this kind of bluff.

I must laugh...
...at the liberals. The efforts they make to defend Obama's faulty approaches to foreign policy.

Look - Obama's an ignorant man
Faint all you want at his rhetoric. But as accurately pointed out here, the man has little knowledge and no substance.

As his own pastor pointed out, he's a politician who will say anything to get elected.

First casualty of an Obama win in November? Iranian civilians. Israel will (rightly) decide that an America so unserious as to elect this boob will be unable to respond to real problems. (I mean if you whine about too many questions from the press or that your wife's remarks MUST go unchallenged, how, exactly, are you going to deal with real tough guys? Simple, you're not - you're out of your league.)

Israel, recognizing the idiocy of an America with Obama at its head, will find it necessary to nuke Iran before Iran has the bomb.

On the other hand, an America serious enough to elect McCain, one who understands diplomacy and war, will not force Israel to go it on their own, giving diplomacy yet more time - but not much.

So - which do you prefer? Diplomacy, which always has requried the threat of force, or an idiot with no understanding of how the world works - and the existential response Israel will provide to this un-serious ignorant man?

Mdogggpiles
You are right, Obama's foreign policy won't leave 4,000 troops dead. More likely it will be 10 times the lives lost, except they will be innocent American civilians.

God bless each and every soldier who has given his or her life in Iraq, but tell me of any other war we have fought in for over five years where the number of lost troops remained so low.

The way you question Krauthammer's knowledge on foreign policy leads me to believe your are more of an expert on the subject. What is it that you would do to deal with the Iranians? I am sure your approach is right up there with BO's juvenile approach.

MDoggg
And just who was it that set in motion the takeover of the Iranian government by a bunch of murdering fanatics? If you answered Jimmy Carter, move to the front of the class. It was Carter who is responsible for the current government in Iran. He sold out the shah and as a result hundreds of hostages were taken and held for 444 days.

And I believe it was Bill Clinton who provided North Korea with a nuclear reactor, which gave them the ability to produce a nuclear weapon.

I think his supporters are idealistic, naive (the youth and college kids and people who never left some particular womb, aka liberals), but that they also include the Soros and Streisands (the uber rich/elite).

"By the failures of our policies I had less in mind the failure of Europe to build temples to us, then the large number of dead soldiers resources squandered military assets weakened and enemies strengthened.

But if you think these things are not relevant to the success of our policies, I guess that is up to you.

Shouldn't our policies be aimed at weakening out enemies rather than strengthening them? I guess the advantage of strengthening enemies like Iran is that we then have an excuse for the next war."

Your statements rely on several false assumptions: (1) Enemies cannot be weakened by killing them, but only by outspending or capitulating to them; (2) Saddam Hussein & Co. were not enemies; (3) soldiers and resources are wasted when they are killed, injured or employed in war; (4) current American foreign policy favors starting more wars, including one with Iran; (5) the sole purpose of the Iraq War was to go to war with Iraq, such that no other objectives were contemplated and no opportunity costs were taken into account.

I could go on but needn't. If you hold the above-listed assumptions, it is entirely foreseeable that further efforts at reasoned discourse will be wasted.

Actually looking at the list I don't see any that I hold. Enemies can be weakened by killing them. Hussein was an enemy who is weaker. But the people who have been strengthened tend also to be our enemies, and generally more dangerous ones.
It is certainly true that we cannot advance out interests in the middle east by simply killing enough people to ground them into submission. But that is not the same as your premise above.

Soldiers and resources are wasted when they are used in ways that do more to advance our enemies interests than our own. I would hope you don't disagree with that.

4) I am not sure of. At one level people in this administration would have to be idiots to want to start a war with Iran. At the other, this administration has not done a lot to dispel the idiot theory. They do periodically seem to test the water for some kind of attack. But fortunately they have sufficiently poisoned the water in that regard.

Iraq was probably not even the main motivation for many of the supporters of the war. But the other motivations have become such obvious failures that the defenses of the invasion generally get stuck on Iraq. After all Iran was not cowed, the Lebanese situatition has moved in Hezbollah's direction, the dangers of weakening our army through lowering standards and extending tours is well known. The limitations the war has placed on our ability to pursue the actual al qaeda and deal with Afghanistan are well known. (Pakistan just struck another deal with the people harboring al qaeda).

So expanding the list of goals for the invasion actually makes things look a lot worse. And given how bad the situation in Iraq is, that is saying something.

The unknown Obama
BO continues to reveal himself with his gaffes and demonstrations of poor judgments and really bad associations. Lately he even reminds me of the great flip flopper Kerry of 2004. He finally denounces after telling us a variety of statements. Or condenms after he tried to proptect. Or most recently he has demonstrated his patriotism by wearing a lapel pin of the flag. By the way...Michelle is fair game if she is going to give pro Barak speeches! It is quite apparent that she hates America. There are so many things for a 44 year old to have been happy about and proud of in America..why did she fall off the wagon? WE ARE ALL IN TROUBLE IF THIS COUPLE ENDS UP IN THE WHITE HOUSE! We talk to dictators and deal with
"rogue nations" all the time (at least we used to before that bumbling blockhead GWB swaggered into town).

Condi Rice has been negotiating with Iran and North Korea. Nixon went to China. Reagan engaged the Soviet Union (back in the days when Russia, not Iran, was the Evil Empire).

I am SO ready to kick this Texas cowboy OUT of my country's House, boot him the hell out & replace him with rationality & common sense. The past eight years have been an abherrant period of american history. American historians, filmmakers, and novelists NEED to create textbooks & art, reminding the younger generations what a disatrous presidency this diminuitive cowboy foisted on the country at large ("preemptive invasions"; what a boob this cowboy was; preemptively invading a country that had nothing to do with 9/11).

It's ALMOST OVER folks! When GWB gets his butt kicked back to Crawford, we can love and respect our country once again. We can become respected leaders again. I think this column sums it up pretty well. Obama doesn’t have a clue. The only thing he knows for certain is that, like millions of others, he would like to be president. Unfortunately (for the rest of us, if he gets his wish) he appears to have no more compelling qualifications for the job than the vast unwashed he would lead. That is, unless a dangerously oversized sense of megalomania counts for something so worthwhile as to offset his complete lack of job skills.

Who said we attacked Iraq because they had something to do with 9/11? You liberals keep coming up with this fictional fact. It is a false statement.

What is absurd is even after bin laden attacked American interest Bill Clinton did nothing. This despite the fact that he had plenty of opportunities. The Sudanese government even offered to hand bin laden over to the American government, but Clinton refused. And what did we get? Bingo!! - 9/11

You and Obama should learn what happened with Kennedy and Khrushchev at the 1961 Vienna summit: Khrushchev raked Kennedy over the coals. PERSONALLY. He bullied Kennedy, he insulted him, he didn't let Kennedy get a word in edgewise.

From that summit, Khrushchev became convinced that Kennedy (and America) could be rolled. In due course, Khrushchev emplaced nuclear missiles in Cuba, and the result was the Cuban Missile Crisis.

That's what can go wrong with an inexperienced, naive, young President who gets himself in way over his head.

"To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."

All your impressions are accurate. I never used the word welfare that would be far too narrow. I tried to broaden it by using government programs; this would include things like food stamps, college grants, housing subsidies, affirmative action, diversity quotas, tax rebates for taxes not paid, special tax refunds to offset low wages and a plethora of other minority set asides and strokes. These programs have only one function, buy off the electorate to either get or maintain power. Charles Barkley said it the other day: 50 years of Democrats fighting poverty and Blacks are still poor(paraphrased). There has been one upshot of the war on poverty and that is a counter Capitalist move. The war on poverty has not created any jobs, it has not expanded our industrial or technological base, but has added significantly to our National debt. The Democrats have been successful in getting Blacks to behave like cattle and vote in a block without real justification.

I have seen your example given a few times now, and seemingly word for word almost as if it was someone else's talking point being repeated. And it makes for an interesting explanation of why Khrushchev was able to walk all of Kennedy during his shortened administration.

The problem for the example is that Khrushchev did not actually walk all over Kennedy during his shortended administration. And in fact they were able to walk the Cuban Missile Crisis back precisely because Khrushchev's take on Kennedy was that he should not call Kennedy's bluff. And they were able to work out a deal to avoid a tragedy. So the real world does not seem to give too much credence to that particular talking point.

left dangle
back again with more talking points. It is amazing the left finds so many mindless fools like you to parrot their pointless arguments.

But if any of you fools think he and his hateful wife have left the influence and guidance of wright you are even dumber than we already believe you are.

But explain away his devotion and support of the corrupt dorothy tillman and her pursuit of raparation payments for all them poor victimized blacks who can't get on with their lives because their ancestors were once slaves.

How about b hussein's statements that even though his daughters attend priivate schools and live in a million dollar home with parents worth millions he still believes they will need affirmmative action protection in order to make something of themselves oin the future.

You phoney hero only believes in victimization and the trolls on the left fully subscribe to the notion blacks cannot succeed without special set asides and entitlements.

But why should you care if b hussein proposes huge tax increases for those who work in this coiuntry. You are still living with mommy and don't pay taxes.

Perhaps you are also thrilled that because the dems in congress won't do anything that allows new oil exploaration or new refineries to be built we continued to be billed some $3,000 per citizen to pay the cost of imported ouil.

And I guess you have no problem with b hussein's idea that each american should be taxes cvlose to $8,000. because b hussein is troubl;ed about poverty in the third world.

But perhaps it is just you are incapable of thinking away from your daily talking points and lack the ability to comprehend the issues advocated by your hero and what it will cost working people in this country

Your 4:00pm post

Thanks for the clarification. I reckon we mostly agree.

CORRECT, FDR & HST DEALT WITH AN ALLY
...but the main fruit of their dealings with Uncle Joe was the Iron Curtain. And Nixon, as Vice President, debated Kruschev in a Russian kitchen and Nikita later visited an American cornfield, without tangible results.
I always suspected that FDR, who also possessed personal charisma and had a silver tongue, felt he could negotiate with anyone, even people like Joe Stalin. In this respect, Barack reminds me of Mr Roosevelt and I suspect his dealings with Muslim zealotry would match FDR's luck with the Marxist zealots.

Obama's Gaff becoming Policy!
Mr. Krauthammer...
I am always inspired by your words, and I am always disappointed when you are not on Britt Hume or other Fox reports. I loved your report on the Obama gaff and how he will "spin" it to his "showcase" policy!

You make these issues clear, always make the very "Big Picture" much more interesting and on target. It is issues like this...Obama's Gaff...that can become a true nightmare for the USA! Your views helps me to look into these topics that you report on and see a point I have sometimes totally missed. Keep up your enlightening verbage, we need your wisdom and thoughts to push Obama off the pulpit!

I would NEVER have thought I would say this, definitely not being a Clinton supporter, but I am extemely angry that the Democrats have derailed Hillary, and in the nasty way that they are doing it. I have 3 daughters who are all bright, and to think that somewhere in a cigar smoke filled backroom she has been ousted in favor of the "male prince" by the "good ole boys" just infuriates me!

Anything you can do to talk our "Secty of State" into running with John, or begin pushing for it? That would get the woman's vote, and probably many of the women-democrats too! And, one could not say, that the VP would not be ready to take the Presidency!!!

J. Kamakana, Hawaii

Charles Krauthammer,Master Journalist
Barack Hussein Obama is a 'Change Artist'.He is for 'change'.We've heard him say it many times over.Change,change,change.

Turns out the change he is talking about is how he changes his stories.Tells one thing one day..next day he must change it.Someone called him out..oh,oh,change again.

He is a no-nothing,lightweight,who cannot speak off script. That is how he gets in trouble. When he gets off script,he says what he REALLY believes and that cannot be allowed. That must be kept hidden until he gets in office.

He needs someone with him with a hook to jerk him off stage when he messes up.Like the old vaudeville comics. That way he can keep the fools fooled until the time is right.

Obama's Gaffe?
Why doesn't Krauthammer drop the euphemism "gaffe" and call Obama's unscripted original foreign policy pronouncements what they really are--proof positive of Obama's pathological narcissism. To think that a man so ignorant of history and diplomacy could imagine himself President is breathtaking. To see that so many Americans are willing to place the fate of their country in such incompetent hands is chilling. God help us if this charlatan gets into the White House!

Lon,
There are numerous accounts of the summit between Kruschev and Kennedy. Some of them sound a lot lide SteveL's and others do not. The important point is that "talk" did not solve the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was a show of military force that solved the crisis.

I can just imagine how Barack Obamas talk would have handled the crisis.
Step 1 (Diplomacy)
Obama: Please take your missiles out of Cuba
USSR: No
Step 2 (Agressive Diplomacy)
Obama: Pretty please with sugar on top?
USSR: No
Step 3 (Diplomatic Solution)
Obama: Okay then, you can keep your missiles in Cuba as long as you promise not to point them at the left coast or the North East. The rest of the nation is just flyover country that no one cares about anyway.

They would then be hailed by the left and their media buddies as brilliant negotiators until they saw the mushroom clouds.

""They would then be hailed by the left and their media buddies as brilliant negotiators until they saw the mushroom clouds""

I agree 110%

Remember, Chamberlain was hailed by the left and media both here and abroad. We all know how things worked out for him.

Bush was right when he used the word Appeasement
The howling from the left was just icing on the cake. :o)

stitistical analysis of obama and thread
i went through about half of therse replies just listing the names you people are callinf obama. everything from limp wrist to traitor. im remainded of a stan up comic who while performing the second show of the night said, "my first audience was over 300 servicemen from the local army base" from the audience came a womans voice "yes Ive scr____d every one of them. they are all lousy lays" th comedian replied, "well madam, perhaps after the first 50 you might have considered the possibility that the fault was yours"

Will Says:
"what a boob this cowboy was; preemptively invading a country that had nothing to do with 9/11)."

What a magnificent example of complete cluelessness!! How does anyone get such recent history so thoroughly wrong. It's only been 5 years, you complete moron.

The invasion of Iraq was due to Saddam's continual refusal to abide by the conditions of the negotiated cease-fire after Gulf War I. He had been warned continually throughout Clinton's terms in office that he had to comply or face the consequences.

Your assignment is to read the text of the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 (clue: 1998 was BEFORE Bush became president). The act specifies the reasons that the U.S. supported regime change in Iraq. It was passed UNANIMOUSLY in the Senate.

Later, when Bush got Congressional approval to invade, the same reasons, and more, were echoed by your liberal heroes. Of course, Bush was later excoriated by the same liberal pukes for his constantly changing reasons.

I would advise you to learn something about your subject before you spit your historically challenged accusations around here.

of his candidacy , Obama's ANTI-AMERICANISM (and obviously -- RACISM ). ALL TOGETHER --

Anyone who believes that Iranians or any other nation of terror sponsors are somehow of inferior intellect and therefore easily negotiated with are at best naive, at worst criminally ignorant.

I don't think we have much to worry about Obama making it to the White House.
When you hear a Clinton talk about assassination, you think of Ron Brown and Vince Foster - Obama probably soiled his britches when he heard her say that.

FORK YOU
TO: impeachbush GUY/GAL/OTHER

Yesterday after you mentioned that the one (1) redeeming quality of Barack O'BoyToy was that he is GLIB as if having loquacious verbosity ability is a redeeming quality I proceed to inform that the futures market on petroleum is/was $136.oo/barrel requesting what policy "CHANGE" the O'BoomBox has made public.

We are talking about a now reality needing expertise beyond Columbia undergraduate and Harvard Law School to effectively Explore, Drill, Recover, Ship, Distribute the petroleum products that drive this economy.

By the way impeachbush GUY/GAL/OTHER that morsel at the end of your fork, do you know how it got there?

O'BOMBA
Historicals such as Yalta and Potsdam are irrelevant and unimportant when the mission is not to know history but to make history.

Look, if the ignorance of a bomb the house down Bill Ayers and Bernadette (aka: Bernadine) Dohrn can make it into history books as "revolutionaries" why not he who is all smile, grin, teeth sans legitimate sense of humor. His Majesty the Empty O'BoyToy Suit!

The Crystal Ball for Denver is clouded full of laughs none coming from OBomba.

impeachbush
100% more competent than Bush?

I have no love for the liberal Bush who is all wrong on immigration- no love at all. As a seasoned social worker, I see Obama as nothing more than LBJ with a tan. The "fate" of the country is not improved by the same policies that have ruined education, corrections, social services, and health care. Increased government control and largess has lead to the increase of problems you now see as being in need of fixing. Obama- who has changed exactly nothing in Chicago for all his sound, fury, and millionaire's lifestyle.

Go ahead and hate Bush, but take care not to credit Obama with competence because of your hatred for Bush. Things can get worse. Take liberal strongholds Camden, Newark, Paterson, etc... NJ, for examples.

POOF
Where oh where is
impeachbush GUY/GAL/OTHER?

I show up asking some basics and the
impeachbush GUY/GAL/OTHER goes POOF and disappears.

I bet he's calling SOROS CAPITAL MANAGEMENT getting instructions. He should ask George for a raise!

Phylo out
writes, "Time to try something different."

Although you probably did not intend it this way, I had Monty Python in my head as I read it. I can picture Obama at the bridge saying, it's only a flesh wound. I agree it is time to try something different. How about a four year moratorium on laws? Put the bureaucracy on autopilot and cost of living increases and let Congress take a four year vacation. After we grow the economy another 20%, they can come back and continue strangling it and deciding how to divy up all the booty from the runup.

Will sums up the wacky left saying
"I am SO ready to kick this Texas cowboy OUT of my country's House, boot him the hell out & replace him with rationality & common sense."

LMAO. They still think Bush is running and finally THIS time maybe just maybe they're gonna boot him out of office!! Yeah take that Bush!! You didn't win this time HA HA HA. We beat you... You act like you desire it but rationality and common sense appear to be nonexistent with most of you leftists.

Hey Zeus!

Charles Krauthammer ! WOW can you stir the pot!

Hillary's So-Called Gaffe
I am not a Clinton fan,by no means.I do,however, believe she is getting a raw deal from Democrats. If not for Obama's rise to stardom, they would be rallying around her as they now are him.

This assination 'slip'is one more nail in her coffin,as far as they are concerned. The speech police are working 24-7 for Obama. He can not be mentioned in any way that isn't complimentary. It just isn't permissible.

She simply spoke the truth. He was assinated. What is the problem? He could get deathly sick, have an accident, something nastier than we already have heard could surface or anything that could abort his campaign, then where would she be?

The news media are in the tank for The Obama Man and any little thing that props him up,will be used and used and used. They are so tramsparent I am surprised that even the mind-numb robots swooning at their 'messiah's'feet can't see through it.

good column
Charles Krauthammer's columns seem to always be good and make an insightful point well

my buddy rowly..smile
I think ...the GAFFE caused so much excitement
because most people who follow events of our country are aware of the strange...DEATHS surrounding the clintons- from arkansas to washinton d.c.!
A personal experience: a black guy told me that ron brown(under investigation..and headed for jail more than likely) said in a meeting
that ron brown said IF I GO DOWN...MR. NUMBER 1
GOES DOWN! Well, a short time later ron browns plane went down in very good weather! There are professional killers that know how to put certain substances in the fuel tank that will cause fuel lines to clog up or something like that...and when it crashes the evidence is burned up!
Mc cain is potentially dangerous..the other two are completely dangerous!

You cannot give me one little detail about the Clintons from Arkansas to the present, that I do not already know.I am a Clinton watcher. They are the 'modern day' Bonnie & Clyde.

Brown's autopsy also reported a hole in the top of his skull that looked 'strangely'like a bullethole.

She may have been sending one of her supporters a signal."Help me out, here".Think so?

It just seems like anything said ,concerning the Obama Man,is off limits. It must be complimentary or it is not kosher.Frankly,I am sick of the speech police, especially where he is concerned.

Charles gets it right again
Charles Krauthammer is one of the most gifted and insightful commentators on the American political scene. His columns should be required reading for every intellectually challenged person in America, especially Democrats and denizens of Hollywood and the MSM.

He is 100 percent right about the liberal Swiss cheese that resides between Barack Obama's ears. I am very worried that a B. Hussein Obama presidency would be the last nail in the coffin of America's position in the world. I hope the American people realize as much and send this arrogant fool back to Illinois where he belongs.

SPIEGEL IM SPIEGEL... say what?
"Historicals such as Yalta and Potsdam are irrelevant and unimportant when the mission is not to know history but to make history."

This is just about the most asinine statement I've read of late. It surely tops Harry Smith and Julie Chen's assertion that Hawaii and the Sandwich Islands are in the Atlantic Ocean.

Hey Spiegel, is it your impression that Potsdam and Yalta are in the South Pacific? Or maybe they're the 56th and 57th states in the Union, located between southern Illinois and western Kentucky?

Why are liberals so damn stupid?

Dr. Krauthammer is right on target
Dr. Krauthammer is right on target. His comments are concise and articulate as always. Dr. Krauthammer continues to be one of our most important commentators in the battle to maintain and regain our freedoms.

Obama Dictates to His Future Subjects
http://blogs.lubbockonline.com/conservative/comments.php?y= 08&m=05&entry=entry080520-162919

We need to listen and believe what Barack Obama is telling us. He is making it very clear what he plans to do to We the People and to the United States of America should he be elected President. Like Hillary, it is beginning to appear that Obama fully intends to become the first American Dictator.

Obama would not have enough Far Left supporters in Congress to implement his intended programs, even if the Democrats pick up 60 to 70 seats in the House of Representatives and 5 to 7 seats in the Senate. The three Democrats, who were elected in recent 2008 Special Elections to fill seats vacated by Republicans, appear to be rather Conservative. I anticipate that most of the seats picked up by the Democrats in both the House and Senate will be by Conservative Democrats who are not going to embrace Obama’s Far Left agenda. To carry out his plans of “Change,” Obama will need to exercise levels of Executive Power previously not permitted by our Constitution.

Last Saturday at a rally in Roseburg, Oregon, Senator Obama stated, "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK." Since when do we conduct our economy and our personal lives based on what other countries think of us? It seems the power-hungry Obama is coming further out of the Left Wing Closet. He shocked and dismayed even his fellow Liberals.
