Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"I can no more disown him (Jeremiah Wright) than I can disown my white grandmother."

-- Barack Obama, Philadelphia, March 18

WASHINGTON -- Guess it's time to disown Granny, if Obama's famous Philadelphia "race" speech is to be believed. Of course, the speech was not just believed. It was hailed, celebrated, canonized as the greatest pronouncement on race in America since Lincoln at Cooper Union. A New York Times columnist said it "should be required reading in classrooms across the country." College seniors and first-graders, suggested the excitable Chris Matthews.

Apparently there's been a curriculum change. On Tuesday, the good senator begged to extend and revise his previous remarks on race. Moral equivalence between Grandma and Wright is now, as the Nixon administration used to say, inoperative. Poor Geraldine Ferraro, thrice lashed by Obama in Philadelphia as the white equivalent of Wright's raving racism, is now off the hook.

These equivalences having been revealed as the cheap rhetorical tricks they always were, Obama has now decided that the man he simply could not banish because he had become part of Obama himself is, mirabile dictu, surgically excised.

At a news conference in North Carolina, Obama explained why he finally decided to do the deed. Apparently, Wright's latest comments -- Obama cited three in particular -- were so shockingly "divisive and destructive" that he had to renounce the man, not just the words.

What were Obama's three citations? Wright's claim that AIDS was invented by the U.S. government to commit genocide. His praise of Louis Farrakhan as a great man. And his blaming 9/11 on American "terrorism."

But these comments are not new. These were precisely the outrages that prompted the initial furor when the Wright tapes emerged seven weeks ago. Obama decided to cut off Wright not because Wright's words or character or views had suddenly changed. The only thing that changed was the venue in which Wright chose to display them -- live on national TV at the National Press Club. That unfortunate choice destroyed Obama's Philadelphia pretense that this "endless loop" of sermon excerpts being shown on "television sets and YouTube" had been taken out of context.

Obama's Philadelphia oration was an exercise in contextualization. In one particularly egregious play on white guilt, Obama had the audacity to suggest that whites should be ashamed they were ever surprised by Wright's remarks: "The fact that so many people are surprised to hear that anger in some of Reverend Wright's sermons simply reminds us of the old truism that the most segregated hour of American life occurs on Sunday morning."

That was then. On Tuesday, Obama declared that he himself was surprised at Wright's outrages. But hadn't Obama told us that surprise about Wright is a result of white ignorance of black churches brought on by America's history of segregated services? How then to explain Obama's own presumed ignorance? Surely he too was not sitting in those segregated white churches on those fateful Sundays when he conveniently missed all of Wright's racist rants.

Obama's turning surprise about Wright into something to be counted against whites -- one of the more clever devices in that shameful, brilliantly executed, 5,000-word intellectual fraud in Philadelphia -- now stands discredited by Obama's own admission of surprise. But Obama's liberal acolytes are not daunted. They were taken in by the first great statement on race: the Annunciation, the Chosen One comes to heal us in Philly. They now are taken in by the second: the Renunciation.

Obama's newest attempt to save himself after Wright's latest poisonous performance is now declared the new final word on the subject. Therefore, any future ads linking Obama and Wright are pre-emptively declared out of bounds, illegitimate, indeed "race-baiting"(New York Times editorial, April 30).

On what grounds? This 20-year association with Wright calls into question everything about Obama: his truthfulness in his serially adjusted stories of what he knew and when he knew it; his judgment in choosing as his mentor, pastor and great friend a man he just now realizes is a purveyor of racial hatred; and the central premise of his campaign, that he is the bringer of a "new politics," rising above the old Washington ways of expediency. It's hard to think of an act more blatantly expedient than renouncing Wright when his show, once done from the press club instead of the pulpit, could no longer be "contextualized" as something whites could not understand and only Obama could explain in all its complexity.

Turns out it was not that complex after all. Everyone understands it now. Even Obama.

Great Insights Charles
So true. And so unfortunate that the candidate that many people, even many on the right, believed to be truly an emissary for racial reconciliation and unity turns out to be, not just another politician, but one who cynically exploits divisive racial rhetoric and innuendo for his own political purposes.

Once again
The moonbats will have to settle for being second tonight.

Sorry guys, not gonna let you start this thread off on the wrong foot.

Charles, thanks for your latest column.

Keep up the good work!

God bless

On Target
As always, the inimitable Mr. Krauthammer nails it down.

Obama's story is epic tragedy. That's why we can't look away from it.

The Annunciation. The Renunciation.

And then the Downfall.

In addition
I would not try to out flank Charles' wit and wisdom, but the column misses a major point. Rev. Wright said some unflattering things about Mr. Obama. That, in my opinion , was the last straw.

Remember BHO put Maureen Dowd "on notice" when she made written comment about his ears.

Remember that the use of his middle name is off limits.

Remeber his grandmother is fair game for his retaliation after she made a remark most of us would find rational.

There is little evidence that he likes or trusts white people.

This man is far to easily insulted to be POTUS.

Charles
writes, " Turns out it was not that complex after all. Everyone understands it now. Even Obama."

But not his acolytes. To them it is still very complex. They will be along to explain it to us shortly.

He is really a good decent man and all this, this stuff can easily be swept under the slavery rug and dismissed out of hand.

Obama/Wright
Everyone knew Obama wasn't telling the whole truth in Philadelphia. Mostly what he was doing was practicing his Christian faith, trying to condemn the sin while still loving the sinner. It's too bad for him that he didn't continue to do that and also say what my Mother said to me as a boy, "If you are going to have friends, you will have to overlook a few things." Well I believe the Rev. was Obama's friend and to his credit he chose to overlook some of what we think were/are outrageous statements/opinions.

NYT Notwithstanding...
...this story is just getting started. The average Joe is just now getting up to speed on liberation theology and black liberation theology specifically, out of which grew Wright's original message to Barack: "White man's greed rules a world in need."

On Hannity's original interview back in March 2007, Wright screamed at Hannity: What do you know about black liberation theology? How many books of James Cone have you read? Hannity is finally devoting his entire Sunday show to this subject.

So far nothing has come out that those of this ilk believe whites are the Great Satan, the root of all evil, who must now in turn be oppressed so that people of color may be liberated.

Everything expounded by Wright appears to be the antithesis of what Barack implies his candidacy is all about. Our Boy Barry still has a lot of 'splainin' to do.

Kimberly
Perhaps a smart, insightful man like Charles can see the enormous difference between the perplexing political relationship between Wright and Obama, and the non-political non-relationship between McCain and Hagee.

What Hagee says about Catholics is germaine to what kind of a POTUS McCain would be? Uh, Kimberly, Protestants have been calling Catholics the Great Whore of Babylon for 500 years. And the Catholics called Protestants apostates and either killed or excommunicated them.

Hagee is equally unkind to Mormons. So no Mormon should vote for McCain because Hagee endorsed McCain? No, I don't think you can convince a man the likes of Krauthammer to start writing about Hagee.

Moveon
Nothing to see here folks lets all moveon.org.

We're only interested in BO's tax policies, defense positions and trade formulations. Why would anyone want to talk about character?

Sun LA Times had a front page story about BO's relation with Mr Blackwell (no not that Mr Blackwell) and BO's receiving over 60% of his monthly income from the guy for over a year starting in 2000. Then Mr Hates Special Interests writes a letter on his state senate stationary asking IL state officials to give Blackwell money to promote Blackwell's pingpong tournaments. Blackwell ends up getting about $400,000 from the state of IL through 2004 to promote his tournaments.

BO's campaign officals say anyone making a connection between the money BO received from Blackwell and the money received by Blackwell from the state of IL is nuts! I am pretty sure his campaign officals say the same thing about any connection one might make between BO and the very unReverend Wright.

As the married man caught in bed with another by his wife would say "Who you gonna believe me or your lying eyes?"

Perfect
It seems clear enough that it doesn't matter what Obama does. You simply cannot reason with people who discount reason as a basis for decision making. As long as Obama says he will give and do for those children who always are looking out for themselves, then he can have plenty of liberty with the truth, character, and the treasury of the United States. Funnel as much of the resources left to the selfish and you can be president until the office title is changed to Party Chairman. The people will have their tyrant to rule over them and predictably grind the freedoms of America to powder, except that people like me, and John Hagee, will keep praying that God will have mercy on us once again.

Myths and Mythconceptions
I think the reason Wright and what he's said has become an issue from which normally black friendly democratic presidential candidates are quickly distancing themselves can be explained by the mythology that exists in the unspoken realm beneath our politics. It seems self evident to democrats, republicans and even the American press that Wright is outrageous, hateful, paranoid and embarrassing not because it's hard to understand why a black man is bitter about how America has treated blacks and behaved during the war on terror but because he dared to denounce the sacred cow that is 'America'. America can do no wrong not because Americans are hypocrites in denial but because 'America' doesn't exist in reality but only as an idea or mythology that stands for, aspires to and believes in but needn't actually become- good. Therefore anything that happens within or without America that is inconsistent with that vision is not deemed to be contradiction or betrayal but against the result of that which 'America' defines itself. To criticize 'America' is not to complain about a society's policies amongst others failing to function but akin to hating 'mom' or God who's always hovering benevolently overseeing us it's children and therefore innocent of anything the ones below have done. You're always wrong blaming America because 'America' is always innocent because 'America' is the goodness we all should revere NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.

Manufactured Outrage
Once we establish that the video of Rev. Wright's rantings are a compilation of his most offensive statements over a long period of time, I fail to see why any reasonable person would ask the question, "Why did you stay at this church for 20 years". If you put together a video containing five devastating crashes as what happens at a Nascar event, no reasonable person would ask you,"Why do you go to watch Nascar races", because any thinking person knows that is not all what Nascar is. I have been to a lot of Black Baptist churches and its an event, more like a concert than the message. The parishioners help kick up the tempo by responding to the pastor and the pastor elevates his rhetoric. People go to church because its Sunday, not because of the pastor, as a matter of fact, the pastor is just one piece of the sunday event. The problem with the media in the US is that they all cover the story the same way like its just one Network with multiple outlets. Of all the coverage, not once did I see any one with a voice of reason. Fox news sets the tone, and the rest follow lest they be labeled unpatriotic.
Really sad.

Like Krauthammer is an objective observe
For you retards, let me say again:

Obama said, its one thing to make outrageous statement in the heat of a sermon, its another thing to double down when given the opportunity to explain yourself.
So instead of the Reverend using the opportunity to apologize, he amplified his statements, that is why he cut the Rev. loose.

Wise up.

Unacceptable as president...
I would love to see how the primary season would have played out to this point if the six week lapse in which Rev. Wright surfaced had taken place a couple of months earlier....No doubt Senator O would have racked up far fewer wins and far fewer super delegates as a result of his repugnant associations with the likes of Wright, and the unrepentant Weatherman terrorist, Ayers.
In fact, Senator O might have been pushed from the race altogether. Senator O has revealed many flaws in his character to us, for those who chose to have their eyes open, and one of those is a glass jaw and a weak stomach for confrontation. He will be a weak and spineless president if he should get that far, and I am one who certainly hopes and prays every day that he does not. We need a strong and determined leader of solid character. If one is willing to honestly look at the evidence, Senator O is not that person. He is an academician who is darned good at speeches - there's precious little evidence that he's particularly good at anything else. He is untested and untried, unchallenged and unprepared...He will create a far worse leadership vacuum than George W. - that's the last thing that we need. His "new politics" is nothing new - simply a recoil effect against the current administration...His cool and aloof behavior is symbolic of someone who has no clue of how to fight, or how to fight back. He's not stupid, but he is naive. Our ememies can't wait. They are salivating at our nation tearing itself apart to put a neophyte in charge out of racial guilt and exhaustion with Bush...Be very, very careful what you vote for ... you just might get far more (AND far less) than you had hoped for...

Krauthammer has changed his tune
In 2006, Krauthammer was urging Obama to run in 2008: http://www.townhall.com/columnists/CharlesKrauthammer/2006 /10/27/barack_obamas_future&Comments=true?page=full&comment s=true

Krauthammer said Obama would likely lose, but he'd be well-situated for 2012.

But the thing is, Geraldine Ferraro was right: A white guy with Obama's record (in this case, "record" is a pompous word for "zilch") would have attracted no attention whatsoever. And that record was even thinner in 2006.

Anyway, it's nice that Krauthammer is open to evidence, but the whole business is an example of how inane our presidential politics have become this last generation. It's all showbiz and spin ... who's up, who's down.

Meantime, our actual discussion of critical public policy issues (the age wave/entitlements crisis, out-of-control immigration, Islam, resource depletion, ..) rarely rises even to the level of sophomoric. Such subjects are too boring for our citizenry.

what really offended the mesiah
for those kool aid drinkers who believe obama is your liberal savior sadly the only thing that made your Idol upset and could no longer take wright wasnt his racist mind , speech and teachings , it wasnt the fact he is raising a new crop of racist lil sharptons , jacksons, obamas or wrights.

wright crossed the liberal line of calling Obama your idol a ,, aaaaaaaaa politician. A normal , regular liberal , say anything politician. Now for his followers who have trult sipped from the kool aid cup this will not be enough to stop sending in their 97.50 to their savoirs web site.

for the rest of us normal folks , has anyone asked grandma if shes still alive who she feels about her grandson throwing her so far under the bus that he has compared her to a livid racist like wright. Id say its time for grandma to state shes a super delegate and to vote for hillary.

Just so were clear her comments about being concerned about waiting at a bus stop where young black thugs is the same as his soul mentor rev wright ? did I get the jest of his remarks ?

Obama Never Inhaled
Why Hillary would question Obama's statement that he never heard the racist comments is beyond me. Didn't her husband, Slick Willy, get by with saying he tried marijuana, but never inhaled? So why shouldn't Bold Barry be able to claim he never heard the sermons?

Just goes to show, denial is not just a river in Egypt anymore.

Cora
He loves his mother, she was white. He loves his grandmother she is white. Grandma knows what he said and has no problem with it, nor should anyone else. How could he hate half of what he is? For example, would he hate his left side today and his right side tomorrow? How about hating his head but loving his feet?

One thing about bias, you never look behind the curtain unless you've been back there yourself.

I wonder what the author would do if he gave someone the benefit of the doubt and then that person backed the author into a corner. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm

say goodnight Gracie
Your opinions of Obama match the one i have formed over recent days. He is just totally over matched. His prominence was created by mob wishful thinking. As he is exposed to the various pressures and give and take, he has not risen to the opportunity, as men like JFK and Ronald Reagan did, but revealed he is truly an empty suit. He is a dream, and will always have apologists from among his fellow lotus eaters.

straitshuter
Why would someone so smart attempt to communicate with us 'retards'? Obviously I am stupid because to me your analysis is sadly lacking. Write a bunch more, maybe you can help me get smarter.

Hillary's vaunted
corps of private investigators doubtless turned up all the data on Ayers and Wright long ago, but Hillary/Bill decided they were more likely to win without using it and risking alienating a vital voting bloc. Isn't it sad that possibly the best political minds of the day messed up? BWAHAhahahahahah. :-D

Most commentatorsindicate
that they do not believe that Obama shares Wright's views. How could he not? He was introduced to his faith by this man and continued the association for many years. He has written about seeking his black identity and preferring that to his white half. He understands Malcolm X's desire to somehow be able to purge the "whiteness" from his body. He has often spoken of the "social gospel" as a mainstay of his church rather than the "gospel of Christ's atonement for all". Despite his intellectual ability he seems unable to discern
what is written in the Bible from the obfuscations of Wright. Although Obama speaks to the reasons for finally disowning Wright, I have to agree that being called a "politician who says what he has to say to get elected" is the one truth that Obama does not want exposed.

Boutte
You're pretty much an ignorant soul.
Hussein Muhammed Obama is a liar.
Where would he get 750 billion for new programs?
How could he cut middle class taxes $1000 a year?
How could imediatly end the war against terror?
How can he fix schools with a snap of his fingers?
How can he get oil prices dropped imediatly?

Boutte, get some child to help you.
Your kind are embarrassment to this country.

boutte
You insist on posting garbage about Mccain being a collaborator with absolutely no evidence therefore making a fool of yourself to thousands.
I happen to be acquainted with a couple of guys who shared his fate in Hanoi and who are ardent supporters. Do you really think that American heroes like these would support JSM if what you say is true?

It would be nice if you had a clue about what you were talking about before wasting our time.

Surprise?
It's not just whites who are surprised by the Reverend Wright's vitriol. I know many middle- to upper-middle class blacks who were surprised as well. Of course, they don't buy into the Reverend's take on America, anyway. All are well-educated, work hard, and a number own their own businesses or companies.

Perhaps the reason so many were surprised is they're so busy working in their jobs or careers, taking care of themselves, taking care of their families. They don't have time for self-righteous indignation, or to protest, march or even whine. And, they fully realize the blessings this country offers are far superior to its shortcomings.

For a moment, let's also take Mr. Obama at his word, that he sat in Reverend Wright's church for 20 years and had no idea the man was so anti-American and anti-Semitic. Is someone with that little discernment really who we want trying to handle extraordinarily complex U.S. foreign policy?

Then I recall who Mr. Obama's mentors and friends have been. The simple fact is, he didn't denounce Reverend Wright for 20 years because he shares his opinions. He is, in short, a phony.

Aha, but that IS what NA$CAR is!

95% of the idiots who sit in the stands quaffing Budweiser and scarfing chili dogs with onions would demand their money back if there was not at least one huge flying crash at the NA$CAR follies. I do not watch NA$CAR as a general rule, but my parents are big fans and Saturdays race at Talladega included a 16 car melee that even during the Sunday main feature (which included a smaller melee and some of the same guys) everyone from the booth guys to the guys in line at the toilets was still slavering over The Big Un on Saturday.

A certain class of of people absolutely LOVE train wrecks. That is why people watch NA$CAR and that is why Rev. Wright and his Big Un still gets plenty of play.

Cool post, very perceptive. Wish i'd thought of it, but being educated is next best.

Good morning to everyone
Stop by Fountain Abbey for my latest blog, on a topic that has the old Friar hopping mad.

I can't believe the cr*p that happens in America today. It's high time for some changes, but not the kind Obama thinks we need. What we need is to change all the liberal lunacy that has been foisted on us over the last forty years or so.

Is There Now A Reason?
With the latest rantings of Wright and the peculiar confessions of Obama, the StuporDelegates now have a reason to toss Obama. But do you think that Wrightgate did his latest things to allow Obama to renounce his association? Until Moyers and the Press Club the actions by Obama were insufficient to convince many that he nodded or slept through the 20 years. Now they are both "winners." Obama has separated himself a little farther and Wright has a NYT bestseller on its way. Over night Wright has made himself a huge national feature compared to the it-took-a-long-time rantings, ravings, and race-baitings of Sharpton and Jackson. Still lingers in my mind - is the Wright thing going on in many black churches and in mosques throughout the U.S.?

Wright isn't the last
J Wright is just one unsavory character from Obama's past. William Ayers is just another. Hatem El-Hady (former fund-raiser for Hamas-yes, THAT Hamas- and now fund-raiser for B Hussein Obama)is another. Chicago politics destroys any honesty and decency a man may have, we can rest assured that there are more questionable characters in Obamessiah's past, that is always the results of success in Chicago politics. This election surely beats American Idol for entertainment value.

Hate and stupidity
Charles article is right on target. Sadly though, some of the commentators like "straitshuter" are riddled with the same hatred and thought process's as Mr. Wright (Mr. Wright's bigotry and hatred dissolves any Reverend title he ever held). And yes "straitshuter" I've had occasion to listen to far more than ten second sound bites of Mr. Wright. Obama's long and close association with such a hateful person tells more about this candidate than he would like us to know. I will not vote for someone as President who accepted or tolerated such hateful ideology, even if I agreed with their political views.

Boutte
I hesitate to reply to any of your posts as you're merely an agent provocateur--however: if Obamaism isn't at all affected by the revelations of his associations- can you explain why his polls are plummeting?
I thought not

Barack Hussein Obama...RIP?
Charles Krauthammer is correct,as usual, in his measured approach to the subject at hand. There are some things you liberals just cannot in good conscience, defend. We have one rabid so-called pastor and one family,in that category.

There are some who would defend the vilest creatures who ever lived..Hitler,Mao and Castro among others, come to mind.Still, some people will defend them.It makes no sense to the rest of us.

These defenders have a list of names they bring up to say "see, see, why don't you talk about these, they do it, too." Of course, they are referring to Revs.Hagee,Falwell,Robertson,Parsely,etc.They find any obscure sentence they ever said in their lifetime and use it over and over.

If anyone thinks there is a moral equivalance between these pastors words and Wright's,they are smoking something...and it NOT Cuban cigars.

Complexity of BO
Barack Obama is as complex as Al Capp's character called B.O.Plenty.

Obama is a fraud and a charlatan
Mr K, thanks for pointing out that Obama is just a race hustler like Sharpton and Jackson. As much as I despise Hillary, I fear an Obama presidency more.

Wright's the best of his associations
Thw worst of it is that Rev Wright was probably one of the least problematic influences in Sen Obama's life. It's the one getting the most attention, but some of his other associations will be more difficult for him to disentangle himself from. Some may even be dangerous. Some of them will demand more than a public embarrassment.

I truly believe Sen Obama is not a bad person. He is just so naive it hurts to watch him. He lacks a discernment of some kind, and has unwittingly associated himself with some very shady characters. (I don't think Wright is in that category. Wright may come out looking like the good guy here).

The Insane Kimberly
Kimberly:
you're as pathetic as ever. Even when it's patently clear that wright anfd Haggee are not moral equivalents and McCain's situation and obama's are diametrically opposed (after all, McCain is a true American hero), you still try the same old smoke and mirrors schtick. Who was it who said that the definition of insanity is doing something leading to failure and repeating it over and over?

A tragedy. Who's to blame?
The powers of the democratic party, for throwing large support behind a guy they didn't bother to vett. That's who.

It's typical of the liberal left to jump on a bandwagon that looks good and sounds good without considering possible consequences. The policies they make reek of that flaw.

Sen Obama is the worst possible outcome of Affirmative Action. He's never been corrected, never been vetted, never been criticised. Only praised. Then he's thrown into the most visible, nastiest pit of contention there is. How was he to know?
He is a victim here. There were people who should have known better. Shame on them.

Truthful and critical analysis AGAIN!
Obama's lack of a solid moral position - his inadequate bumbling non-handling of Wright proves how unprepared and dangerous he would be as a president!!!
Instead of knowing where his moral and ethical position is and standing by it,
BO's playing the odds - afraid of losing black support. This is exactly why
BO can never be and should never be president.
No moral compass: disaster for the USA!
I have NO patience for such spinelessness. IT is the most dangerous lack of character in any one, but particularly one who "hopes" of being a leader.
Obama couldn't lead his dog to a fire hydrant.
Wright and Obama are both self-serving and, it appears, ignorant users of other people. Obama is using Wright for street cred and was willing to sit in that "church" for 20 years to get what he wanted: a Rezko mansion, friendship with Ayers and Dohrn, blackitude "typical white person" bigotry, arrogant and discriminatory ignorance about "bitter" Americans who "cling" (BO tried to twist that into some kind of Biblical voodoo connection) to guns and God.
Obama's pathetically naive, deplorably stupid in his judgment, inadequate in his experience, contemptible in his elitism, lamentable in his hollowness, puerile in his empty rhetoric, harrowing in his dissembling, and basically Clintonian in his equivocation. Obama is a weak character. His whole campaign’s theme is how terrific BO is at “judgment,” when, in fact, Obama is woefully lacking in any moral/ethical compass. Wright isn’t Obama’s problem. Obama’s is his own problem and, therefore, not ready and not worthy of even running for the presidency of the USA.
The Wright, Rezko, Ayers, Dohrn issues should not go away. They prove BHO's unprincipled, amoral approach to judgment.
Obama’s audacity is to think we haven’t read The Wizard of Oz.

Obama’s is his own problem and, therefore, not ready and not worthy of even running for the presidency of the USA.
Obama’s audacity is to think we haven’t read The Wizard of Oz.

Outstanding article Charles
Charles is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. Always insightful, always elequently written, and certainly bringing out the finer points that are no less important.

Now, can we talk about Obama's perspective? How about his judgment? How about his ability to perceive a situation correctly?

"I can no more disown Rev. Wright than I can my grandmother"
(Obama signs peace treaty with Syria)
"Obama cuts Wright lose - days later"
(Obama regrets the nuclear bombing of Israel)

These actions displayed for all the world to see on national television tells me Obama has no coherent perspective to be President. It tells me Obama has no working judgment to make quality decisions. It tells me Obama lacks discernment, character and wisdom to be a U.S. Senator, let alone President.

Can we trust him to make good judicial appointments? NO
Can we trust him to solve foreign matters? NO
Can we trust him to fiddle with our economy? NO
Can we trust him to be our Commander and Chief in a time of war? NO

We can't even trust him to pick good mentors.

I remember B. O Plenty quite well. He married Gravel Gertie, who saved Dick Tracy's life from The MOLe (memory, somebody correct me) or Flattop or some other of Chester Gould's kinky villains. Tess Trueheart was his sweetheart and Vitamin Flintheart and Pat were his pals. Remember those little arrows and the explanation "two-way wrist radio"? Gould never dreamed of what you can put on your wrist now.

Pruneface
Maybe it was Pruneface who captured Tracy and fed him all the water that sticks to a fork twice a day.

Once again....
Simply put any white candidate for public office in the place of Obama.
Would that person be forgiven his/her 'associations'?
Or have we, as someone noted earlier, become a Nation so attuned to the PR and Spin and well turned phrase that we will seriously consider electing, litterly, anyone?
I fear the answer is "Yes, we can", and will.

KIDS TAKEN AWAY
I SAW GLEN BECK AND WATCHED SEVERAL MINUTES OF THE REV. WRIGHT SERMON--IT REMINDED ME OF ONE OF THE RADICAL MUSLIM SPECIALS I WATCHED WHERE THEY TEACH THE KIDS TO HATE AMERICA AND JEWS. I KNOW WE HAVE FREE SPEECH IN THIS COUNTRY ( KINDA), BUT OBAMA AND HIS WIFE HAD THEIR CHILDREN BAPTIZED IN THIS HATE FILLED ENVIRONMENT. I THINK CPS SHOULD TAKE THOSE KIDS AWAY AND AT LEAST HAVE THEM EVALUATED--JUST ASK THE POLYGAMIST. WHO KNOWS MAYBE SOMEWHERE DOWN IN THE BASEMENT THEY ARE TEACHING THEM TO BOMB THE PENTAGON. I WONDER HOW MUCH THAT EVIL BUSH ADMINISTRATION GAVE TO THAT CHURCH THRU HIS FAITH BASED INITIATIVE PROGRAMS??? I WONDER IF OBAMA'S WHITE GRANDMOTHER WAS SCARED OF HER 2 INTERRACIAL SON INLAWS??? SOMEONE NEEDS TO FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL--WHO PAID FOR OBAMA'S EDUCATION? WHO GROOMED HIM FOR 20 YEARS TO BE ELECTED?? WRIGHT DOESN'T NEED HIS CHURCH FOR MONEY--THE NATION OF ISLAM IS SUPPORTING HIM AND JUST USING CHRISTIANY AS A PLOY. JUST LIKE THE FIGHT BETWEEN WRIGHT AND OBAMA IS A PLOY!! JUST TO GET THE INDEPENDENT VOTE!! WAKE UP AMERICA!!

Your posts strike a chord with me. In many ways Barry IS a victim, but mostly of himself and his education and the choices he and his education led him to make. He is a near-perfect product of the moonbat takeover of Ivy league education. Most students have at least some small inoculation with reality and manage to survive with some connection to the real world, but Barry obviously didn't. I admit a bit of a surprise the dem movers and shakers didn't cut him off at the pass, but he came on so fast, and the charge of racism is so deadly that apparently no one grasped the nettle. SOP for Dems. They've been kicking the can down the road for at least 70 years. But every year it gets a little bit bigger. Maybe its getting too big to kick, at least by the midgets trying now. Barry, Hillary,Reid, Pelosi. And the GOP has more than its share.

There Is An Integrity Issue. . .
I wonder why more in the media are not discussing the same connection with Senator Clinton and Rev. Jeremiah Wright as they do with Senator Obama and Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

It is a fact that the good Rev. was summoned to the White House to pray for and with, and counsel President and Mrs. Clinton after the Monica issue. He had the same issues/dialog then as is being talked about now.

I also wonder why the fact that head to head, more is not being said of Senator Clinton's strong propensity towards lying. The two Senators are running for the nomination. Shouldn't what they say or do mean more than the words of an attention seeking, out of touch, former pastor?

Head to Head-Senator Clinton has been proven to be a liar, not Senator Obama. Rev. Jeremiah Wright is not running for President.

I have heard some rumblings on several tv/radio shows about how there is some talk about how Wright and Oblama have orchestrated this "split" between them as a cover/explination of how Oblama could have spent the 20 years in the "church" and not know of Wrights doctorine of hate or "black liberation theology"

Obama's associates
He didn't cut off all connections to Wright or that "church", just said what he had to now that Wright revealed BHO's just the usual deceitful politician. New presidents bring in their associates to populate DC positions. In an "Obama administration", can we expect Nation of Islam bodyguards in the Secret Service, maybe Wesley Clark for SecDef, William Ayers Secretary of Education, Rezko at Treasury? And the "reverend" Wright- does he want to be Secretary of State, assisted by Hamas?

Not much changes
This Wright Debacle may appear to have shaken the Democratic Party, but as I chat with liberal family members, they are more enamored with the senator.

Obama supporters and many Democrats in general, will only see that the senator is "only human". They will never understand how a large segment of voters question his judgment or his choices to align himself with people and ideologies that foster division by either class, race or party.

It's All Showbiz, (folks)!
The supposed seperation of Wright, & Obama
is to my mind, clearly carefully orchestrated
theatre.

(Putting the weary minds to rest-'Typical white people', with guilty consciences. The type that feel it's 'Time for a black president'.

All the pundits were screeching for weeks that all obama had to do would be to distance himself. What to do?

They needed to create a division. Make it convincible. Have wright do his wacko tour,
putting obama squarely at opposition.

Anyone who believes this need to rethink it objectively.

After Obama is elected watch for Wright's reappearance.

Obama's Changing Moral Equivalence: GLZ
How are we ever going to get equal opportunity, equal justice, when we allow double standards?

Ferraro was correct. If Obama was a white candidate, his meager resume would not have got him to 1st base. (Shelby Steele though said the same thing, but said it 1st in "A Bound Man".) Thus Obama (like Ferraro) was a politically correct affirmative action candidate, largely fostered by "White Guilt" (an earlier Steele book).

Further, if any white candidate belonged to a church with anything even remotely similar to Trinity United's DOCTRINE of "black values", the candidate would immediately have been branded a racist (and probably deservedly so), immediately forced to resign from the campaign (if not a DQ from even considering a run from the start), and would then be pressured to resign any currently held office/position; recall Trent Lott? Don Imus? (Where's Revs. Jesse & Al now with Wright?) Yet Obama got/gets a free pass. Neither he, Wright or Trinity was vetted during the 21 prior so-called Dem debates. Why? How could that happen? More recently replicated in Moyers' puff piece interview of Wright. Clearly Wright was/is a racist, yet NO ONE dares speak the truth and call/identify him that. Another free pass. Another double standard. It's killing us.

Well said. It's disturbing to watch all these fools on this website drink Krauthammer's kool-aid so unquestioningly.

Phylo out

Krauthammer's spin
Bill Bennett spoke about this issue this morning. He showed integrity and class in complimenting Obama's unequivocal denouncement of Rev Wright. It was a rare and welcome fit of honesty from right wing radio.

But Bill Bennett is not a neocon. Charles Krauthammer is. And the neocons are desperately trying to keep the pro-war, pro rich people establishment in power.

I'm sure those who are already inclined to hate Obama will accept Krauthammer's version of the events.

But here's an alternative view for you to chew on as well.

Obama knew that Wright would occasionally say some outrageous things from the pulpit, but that he also said some brilliant, insightful and inspiring things, and that he had done an extraordinary amount of good for the Southside community. Obama weighed the balance of all of these things and decided he could overlook some of the Reverend's shortcomings.

to be continued

Krauthammer's spin cont'd
After the snippets came out, Obama denounced the snippets, but not the man because, again, he knew about all of the good things this reverend has done.

But during Rev Wright's three day tour through the national spotlight, he basically called Obama a phony and he made an absolute arse of himself.

Obama would have left it all alone if Wright had confined his bombastic ways to the church. And in my opinion, rightly so.

I heard an interview with Martin Marty yesterday. Martin Marty has been friendly with Rev Wright for many years, since their days at the University of Chicago. Martin Marty has a great deal of respect for Rev Wright's preaching of the Gospel. But he said that, in his recent performance at the NAACP and the National Press Club, he seemed to be "off the rails".

In other words, it was not the Rev Wright he had known for so many years.

So what we have here is Obama giving a man the benefit of the doubt, until he publicly proved that he wasn't worthy of it. And for that, Krauthammer calls him a liar. Is Martin Marty a liar too Krauthammer?

Phylo out.

What's going on
I keep trying to post and it never shows up on the thread. What's going on?

The Great Deceiver - Obama
I believe the Rev. Wright thing was all a set up. Where is Rev. Wright now? Why is no longer speaking? Isn't it all looking a little staged?

The media has not investigated a Chicago Tribune report that Obama/Axelrod hired a PR firm to help them deal with the Wright issue.

Amazing sequence of events:

1. Hired PR firm
2. Wright suddenly on whirl-wind speaking tour
3. Public outrage
4. Obama makes a speech and acts angry over Wright
5. MSNBC and CNN rush to defend Obama
6. Now and forever he has washed his hands so no one can use it against him. BULL

Geeee, I wish someone would have asked Obama about the PR firm today after his speech. The good questions never seem to get asked.

My feelings - Obama is not telling the truth. One of the biggest things that stand out is the public was told that Wright was un-invited to Obama’s announcement - now, we find out he was in the basement. Will Barack have him hiding in the basement at the White House? The black community should be outraged with obama.

The funniest part of this whole thing is - it came to my mind at least Wright is NOT a liar. He tells the truth about what he has said and how he feels - UNLIKE BARACK OBAMA. I don’t agree with Wright - scary stuff, but he admitted he said those things. Barack just builds on one lie after the other.

I agree - he bears some responsibility. But he has been very cloistered all of his life - and that includes the ivy walls of his college years.
He's just now out in the real world in the sense that he's really never been questioned. The dems would be the last people on earth to do so because of it being so un-PC.
He's getting the proverbial rude awakening.
This is the stuff of classic tragedy.

the usual oversimplification from K
In the course of the political campaign it is all simple, because it is the nature of political campaigns that things need to be made simple to not be misrepresented. Outside of the political campaign it will still be that first speech on race that will be taught in schools as the deeper commentary on race in America.

That was one of the many things that Wright was correct about, the preacher and politician really do speak to different audiences. This is not necessarily a slight to politicians as it seems. After all the same period in Biblical history is told from the perspective of the kings and the prophets, and it sounds very different in tone in those two parts. But it has never followed from this that the kings are being discounted because of it.

It is an interesting question whether Obama's recent distancing himself from Wright will work. But it is the first speech on race which is likely to be the one taught in schools.

Phylo
Drinking kool-aid is better for you than your meth & little rocks .........mooning,swooning and wetting yourself over muslim.

I don't believe it was The Rev Wright who went to pray with the Clintons after monicagate. I believe it was Rev Jackson.

Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes
Stop making excuses for the Wrights of this country and listen to people like the Rev. Bernice King (daughter of the late MLK). She's out there lifting and unifying people to shake off party loyalties and do what is good for the common good. In her "Reconciliation Referendum" found at http://www.truthinblackandwhite, the Reverend is fostering real healing in our country and believe it or not, the healing will begin through one of the cornerstones of our nation's history.....faith in our Creator.

Phylo
All due respect to your alternate explanation and your friend marty, but Rev Wright's recent speeches showed a remarkable consistency with those we've seen from the past.

Look, I see what you're trying to say: that Sen Obama tried his best to overlook some bad things in view of the greater good his church was doing. And that he tried his best to overlook his pastors outrageous comments in view of the greater good message.
Fine.

To tell you the truth, I really don't think Mr. Obama was in church all that much, and it was only in the public eye that he suddenly had to think about it.
I don't think he's a bad guy. He's just a naif.
That, and his rapid rise have got him in some very dicey associations that he's never had to think about.
Not his fault, but his moral compass doesn't have much grounding. He's still learning and forming. Unfortunately for him, it's in ful public view. For that I feel sorry for him.

I see
the liberals are attempting to change the subject.

Obama repeatedly fell for this schtick from Wright, Ayers, and others because Obama does not know who he is.

How much more evidence do we need?
Given the level of discovery by us and by candidates Obama and Clinton, how much more evidence do we need to see that neither is qualified to deal with what the POTUS of the U.S. has to face.

The Congress and POTUS must encourage and permit us to solve the energy, housing, health care and other social issues. They must also realize that bad folks like bin Laden and followers love to negotiate with naive ones like James Carter, when it suits their purposes. They are happy to buy time and not pay anything for it.

When the first A-bomb explodes in a U.S. city without any claim from Iran that they sponsored it, what will POTUS do? Bomb the same city to gain vengence on the dead vaporized unknown bomber? If we choose to ignore the kind of WMD represented by Hussein, Amajinedad and Kim Il, we will see the collapse that these men all work to achieve.

Only one candidate is man enough to face reality!

Lon
I am not getting it even though liberals keep repeating it.
What about the Obama speech should be taught in schools?

Please watch the press conference
Obama did not denounce his pastor. Again he chose the words carefully. He denounced the message only.

If you don't
think Barak Hussein Muhammed Obama is a muslim, ask the people in Kenya.
And yes that is his full name.

Obama on Wright
This article is spot on. It shows Obama as who he is. Throw your grandmother under the bus when needed and now this Wright. Only it should of been Wright all along. Talk about a politician. What scares me is who would he invite to the white house? The Americans house.

response to assertions in article
Obama's Philadelphia speech is still a great
speech.

Yes, things did change, because Wright chose
to reinforce some of his greatest misses at
the National Press Club. And try to call to the
carpet Obama. This was appropriate as his
initial speech was an appropriate response imo.
The three assertions were over a 40 year career
and who knows what he believed now - well, the
NPC event changed that.

I would still argue that the snippets are not in
the full context of his 40 years of preaching.
As a commentator on MSNBC said, she had gone to
the church about 6 times and had friends who
attended while she lived there for several years - she never heard anything like this. So, these
are his greatest misses. Which is not to say
Wright does not still believe them.

You'll remember that Obama had already
"rejected and denounced" Farrakhan.

Ferraro was already let off the hook in the
Philly speech - please reread it.

And yes, you should be seen as being ignorant
if you are not aware of "black anger" and its
roots. That is not to say it is correct as
AGAIN OBAMA ACKNOWLEDGED IN HIS PHILLY SPEECH.

Krauthammer purposefully (should we call it
INTELLECTUAL FRAUD) misses his point that
he was not talking about Wright, but the
general feeling of black anger and where it
comes from. THIS AGAIN IS CLEAR IN THE PHILLY
SPEECH

Since he is running for President all questions
are legitimate.

I miss how his recent statements about Wright
are much different than his Philly ones.
They are stronger but more or less the same.

The NPC event based on the questions was all
his worst moments put together.

The subject is explained by the words
Senator Obama's use of the words to communicate was said to be his best strength. I watched in disbelief ,as educated ,believing liberals I knew ,swooned after his first speech "on race" , given because of the exposed Rev. Wright connection. They praised his courage to address race and call on us to openly discuss "our wrongs in race relations.I stood the lone conservative in this group, and said "it was a speech for the stupid! The words of the speech did not address the subject. The subject was not race, the subject was and still is hate! " The senator looses everything either not telling the truth about Rev.Wright or not being aware enough to recognize an evil hater in his presence. Thank you Charles, you're always accurate with words and stay on subject.

david
Like many on these boards and writers it seems
you did not read Obama's speech.

I will give you a quote and a link to the speech
itself that proves he did address hate (or
division) in his speech:

"But the remarks that have caused this recent firestorm weren’t simply controversial. They weren’t simply a religious leader’s effort to speak out against perceived injustice. Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country – a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is right with America; a view that sees the conflicts in the Middle East as rooted primarily in the actions of stalwart allies like Israel, instead of emanating from the perverse and hateful ideologies of radical Islam.

As such, Reverend Wright’s comments were not only wrong but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity; racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve a set of monumental problems – two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy, a chronic health care crisis and potentially devastating climate change; problems that are neither black or white or Latino or Asian, but rather problems that confront us all."

Link to speech:

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/03/18/text-of-obamas-spe ech-a-more-perfect-union/?mod=WSJBlog

more on addressing hatred
from Obama's Philly speech:

"That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems; it keeps us from squarely facing our own complicity in our condition, and prevents the African-American community from forging the alliances it needs to bring about real change."

I could quote the parts that Krauthammer
deliberately, imo, chooses to pass over if any
are interested.

Obama Is Finished
For years non-elite whites have had to stand by and listen to the Jesse Jacksons, the Al Sharptons, the Maxine Waterses and the Louis Farrakhans with their insane conspiracy theories and endless greivances. The elitists have overlooked every looney conspiracy theory and allowed the culture of victimization to destroy standards and discipline in our schools and coddle generations of vicious criminals bred and fostered by the compassionate Welfare State's assault on the families of poor people. We've been called racists again and again and reviled for our Klan-like hate when we point out some of the stupidity and lack of common sense displayed by the demagogues who are making these charges. What Wright has done is link Obama to the dysfunctional liberal and black culture of victimization and grievance which most non Ivy League educated whites hold in utter contempt. All the namby-pamby 'explanations' about 'I didnt hear this' and 'I dont agree with that' dont make any difference. Obama is now linked with these idiots, and with good reason, and will not be able to recover.

Moral equivalences , and other nuances
It's about hate , not about race. We all can recognized it.

the oblahma's and the rev wrong
the oblahma tells us his compass is his wife. Not an uncommon sentiment amongst those those married.

But what the oblahma leaves out is that the missus oblahma is in total agreement with wrong and fully accepts wrong's message. Her college minor in black studies is nothing more than liberal teaching that blacks are always the victims.

The acolytes of the left's new messiah, the oblahma, will continue to make excusses for the oblahma and claim that the message of wrong is not part of the make up of their new champion of hope and change.

But where is the proof that the oblahma has truly distanced himself from the message of wrong and the teachings of james cone. After listening to wright and his message of cone's philosophy of black separatism for 20 years why did it finally become a problem for the oblahma 3 days ago.

Perhaps wright is right. The oblahma is nothing more than a politician using whatever methods he needs to advance himself, aligning himself with those who will support his canidacy and telling his believers what they want to hear.

But why should we believe the wright isn't mearly taking a vacation away from the oblahma at company expense and the great reconciliation won't occur next Jan. Since the oblahma has been very deceitful to this point exactly why is he suddenly honest over the wright matter

Moral equivalences and other nuances
Obama'swords are nice the way they sound,I listened . Obama's problem is thoughtlessly or mistakenly subscribing ( with time and monies ) with those who hate. It's about the forces hate having such a direct voice in the ear to a person wanting to be president. It's about that person and other's making moral equivalences, not recognizing the evil hate when they are in it's presence.

Let's be Honest Here ...
Let’s be honest here.

Breaking-off a relationship is hard and harder the longer it takes.

B Hussein Obama can “distance” himself from the wrong-Rev Wright in front of glaring lights and journalist pools - the distance is only inches when you consider three binding cords not easily broken – money, sex and power.

B Hussein Obama has contributed $22,000.00 to the wrong-Rev Wright’s congregation last year – pre-retirement days (did it go toward the $1.6 million golden-parachute retirement home?). Let’s be honest here. Would you contribute $22,000 to the wrong-Rev Wright? Yes, the contribution did not go, as far as we now know, personally to his wrong-Rev Wright. Nevertheless, unless we are in head and heart agreement with the leader of a non-profit volunteer organization it is unlikely we would make that size of a contribution that inures, generally speaking, to the benefit of the leader. What were B Hussein Obama’s yearly contributions when you look at the entire 20-year relationship?

"Let's be Honest Here ... continued ...

Let's be Honest Here ...
B Hussein Obama’s emotional binding to the wrong-Rev Wright includes intimacy of the close and family kind. The wrong-Rev Wright officiated the marriage ceremony of B Hussein and Michele Obama and officiated the dedication of their two daughters. Again, let’s be honest here. Would you request the wrong-Rev Wright to perform the public ceremony that sanctions the private sexual rights for you and your wife resulting in two children that are again touched by the wrong-Rev Wright? The dedication ceremony includes, in part, the affirmation of the parents and the congregational witnesses to bring up the children in the ways and manners taught by the wrong-Rev Wright’s black liberation theology. How much distance is that?

B Hussein Obama’s need for political power endorsements is the third cord of this 20-year relationship that is only now given slack. While B Hussein Obama was a Chicago community organizer he needed the covering, affiliation and tacit endorsement of the wrong-Rev Wright. B Hussein Obama needed other power brokers to finance him, introduce him and present him in powerful friendly ways to allow an “overnight” rise in the rough and tumble politics of Chicago and state governance. Let’s be honest here. Would you assume the “right hand of fellowship” from the wrong-Rev Wright would be granted unless you were a devotee and disciple of the wrong-Rev Wright’s values? I have never seen a firmly grasped handshake or arms around each other relationship that had much distance between them. Have you?

Let's be Honest Here ..
B Hussein Obama may now “denounce” the wrong-Rev Wright. However, the declaration would be more honest, honestly spoken, 20 years ago. B Hussein Obama is not a truth speaker now nor should he be allowed to take honestly the oath of President of the United States of America. Honestly, we can not and do not trust him – now or 20 years from now.

Let’s be honest here.

Obama the Slick
Obama is a nobody, pushed to the fore of the Democrat party by a divisive (pronounced di-VYE-sive, not di-VI-sive, please) bunch of politicians and their all-too-willing sycophants in the mainscream media. He has no accomplishments of note, but he IS a black man (although why he gets to claim that above his 50% white background is beyond me), and that means he appeals to certain demographics that the Dems love to court, to wit, blacks in the cities and liberal whites who see his candidacy as the ultimate in "reparations."
Obama's liberalism, as evidenced by his brief and undistinguished Senate record as well as his association with the Woods Fund (check some of its beneficiaries) is to the left of Clinton, Kerry and Kennedy. His speeches and campaign promises, when totted up, present an enormous increase in government scope, control and cost.
True, he is a good speaker, but that is no reason to entrust to him the Presidency of the United States. His lying "outrage" is certainly a very good reason to keep that post from him, especially in light of his Philadelphia speech of just a few weeks ago. If he really didn't know what Jeremiah Wright was all about after a 20+ year close association with him then he is far too stupid to be entrusted with the Presidency.
In any event, those who twist reality and logic into a Klein Bottle (check topology fo rthat reference) to continue supporting his campaign are truly the misguided ones who place appearance and form above substance. Affirmative action as a path to the leadership of the free world is a course with potentially disastrous consequences.

pandm
I'd heard the same thing. But did we need to know it from Kenya when Farrakahn is lionized by Obama's pastor and given honors in the church?
Savage 9:31 all three of you nailed it, however I do take issue with SunThe1 theory that
Obama is just a naif. I don't consider anyone with his anti life credentials decent, honest
or naive. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand the horror of partial birth abortion or live abortion birth exposure. This guy isn't dumb, he's sly and crafty and narcissistic. It's all about him, i.e. ME!

"But where is the proof that the oblahma has truly distanced himself from the message of wrong and the teachings of james cone."

He has been running a campaign for over a year.
Have you picked up on it?
Now he did say "bitter", but that is about it.

"After listening to wright and his message of cone's philosophy of black separatism for 20 years why did it finally become a problem for the oblahma 3 days ago."

I am not sure that is what is preached on a weekly
basis at the TUCC church. And trying to equate
"black" this and that to "white" this and that
does not work for me.

TUCC is a multicultural churck, mostly black.

The polls
I see where several Democrats are citing national polls to prove that this Wright controversy is not harming Obama's chances. Yeah, since when are Americans truthful on polling about racial issues, and make no doubt, this is a racial issue. These polls are about as trustworthy as the exit polls that convinced Kerry he had won the election. Just wait and see, Boutte.

The Obominable man
Is made of the same stuff as his nut-case mentor. And the Liberals are upset that the truth is out!

Here is more truth, I received this morning about the lying S.O.B!

On Sat, 22 Mar 2008 18:48:04 -0400, "LTG Bill Ginn" USAF ret forwarded:

Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the
right hand over the heart.

"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides," Obama said. "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it."

WHAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our next president.

Your comment: Obama’s audacity is to think we haven’t read The Wizard of Oz.

Spot on, and Very Very good. Thanks for the smile.

Obama's Changing Moral Equivalence
What Obama supporters seem to ignore is that Obama has more questionable relationships than just that with a radical "former" pastor.

Should voters be concerned about Obama's "friendship" with William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, two former leaders of a domestic terrorist group?

Many American voters are beginning to wonder whether Obama's relationship with Ayers, Dorhn, Jeremiah Wright, as well as others, is a pattern in which Obama seems quite comfortable with people who really don’t like the United States of America. Important questions to ask for a man who wants to be the next POTUS.

Obama's Middle Name.
No wonder the know-it-alls banned Obama's middle name from being used during the campaign. It's actually Putz (as in Barack Putz Obama).

Obama weighed the balance of all of these things and decided he could overlook some of the Reverend's shortcomings".

"Obama knew that HITLER would occasionally say some outrageous things from the pulpit, but that he also said some brilliant, insightful and inspiring things, and that he had done an extraordinary amount of good for the GERMAN COUNTRYSIDE. Obama weighed the balance of all of these things and decided he could overlook some of DER FUEHRER'S shortcomings".

See how ridiculous you sound?

Obama, the Illusionist
Mr. Krauthammer is right on Obama contradicting his Philadelphia Speech embracing Wright with his NC Speech "distancing himself" from Wright. I'm sure he meant both of them, he has a close relationship with Wright and they share many views, including race. But after Wright restated views he has long held and promoted, Obama ended their relationship (at least openly) because it threatened his "Short March" (Rather than Chairman Mao's "long March") to the Presidency. Wright was thrown under the bus for public consumption, but "The Illusionist" can always resurrect him at the proper moment.

The Philadelphia speech on Race showed the Real Obama. He firmly aligned himself with all the reparations and other race arguments of Jackson, Sharpton, et al, and "understood" Wright as justified in his rhetoric and actions. For "balance", Obama "recognized" and dismissed with contempt "working and lower class" whites who resent lost jobs to free trade, affirmative action, illegal immgration, and see their communities and way of life disappearing as a result. "Post Racial"? Only in 1984, where Freedom is Slavery, War is Peace, love is Hate.

It's all about "ME"
I've read all the posts! Some of you are "right on". Some are "out-to-lunch". And some of you are ... well, never mind.

I've paid close attention to the Wright/Obama controversy from the beginning. I watched/listened to Wright's interview Monday. I listened to Obama's response of condemnation.

Obama did NOT condemn Wright's ideological views. He DID Wright's personal attack on HIM.
"...not the man I met 20 years ago" "He deceived ME" "He betrayed ME" "He does not speak for ME" "His (racial hatred rantings) does not reflect MY goals (as a uniter)"

Obama neither denied nor condemned Wright's anti-white, anti-America rhetoric. What he did was practice the political expediency known as "damage control" by "separating" himself from his friend, mentor, advisor, pastor.

I, for one, was not fooled!

B. Hussien Obama
It is facinating to watch the unravelling of the marvelous facade the MSM and the Obama campaign has built around this "cult" hero (this Muslim in Drag, note: a suit instead of a gown)

He is being exposed as the monumental hypocrite and opportunist that he is. He defines "an empty suit". His campaign and collapse would be hysterically funny if he and what he stands for (unchecked liberalism) wasn't so damn dangerous.

He really is only another of a parade of Democrats that no one had ever heard of until they burst upon the american political scene as (gasp!) presidential candidates. E.g.:
Jimmy Carter
William Clinton
B. Hussien Obama

I really hope we have learned something from past experience with these Democrat "Saviors"
Incidently, Hillary fits the bill as well.

PC will sink us all.

Ask yourselves
Lets pretend for a moment. Lets say that John McCain served on a board and visited the home of a man who was the grand dragon of the KKK 30 years ago and who made racist statements and said he just wished they had burned more crosses and lynched more people in public less than 5 years ago. Also pretend that John McCain's minister and close personal friend for 20 years was Bob Roberts and that same man was part of his campaign as a spiritual advisor.

Is there any doubt that the moveon people would be crying to the high heavens that this man should not only not be President, but that he should be kicked out of the Senate and never have any public job anywhere ever again?

The left cannot see the truth, because truth does not matter to them. All is politics and if your guy is dirty it doesn't matter. All that matters is the victory and the power.

The above description is pretty close to an exact comparison to BO's relationships, but set from a right wing radical point of view rather than a left wing one.

The problem is that most Republicans would agree if this were true of McCain, but most Democrats will not accept it when it is true of their man for the reasons I stated above. Truth and character don't matter. Victory is the only goal.

Goshawk
you posted this attributed to Oblama...
And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.

I know about the flag pin and how he doesn't want to acknowledge the playing of the national anthem. But, did he really SAY the above. I had not heard that. Was he joking or serious. What was the venue. Sounds like political correct crap a liberal would espouse.

Nana, you left out Rezko!
Obama's associations aren't only with black racists and white terrorists (are they now considered former terrorists, since they're teachers?) but with indicted money-guys and, probably the most damning of all, Illinois Democrats.

When you choose to reside in Illinois and become one with the Democrat machine, your associates are the likes of our illustrious Governor Bojangles and his ilk, Mayor Daley, and best of all Little Dick Turban Durbin.

Democrats truly don't care about a candidate's character; just so he's got that D by his name.

Re: Obama's Changing Moral Equivalence
Great article!

I think you should start calling Senator Obama Undercover Brother and relate Rev. Wright to "the B.R.O.T.H.E.R.H.O.O.D." from the movie Undercover Brother... maybe do some "brother" quotes like:CAUCASIAN OVERLOAD! CAUCASIAN OVERLOAD! CAUCASIAN OVERLOAD! CAUCASIAN OVERLOAD!

Charles Krauthammer,Journalist
Mr Krauthammer appears often on Brit Hume's news show on Fox,usually several times each week.He is fair, witty and I enjoy seeing him.

If I remember correctly,he had a diving accident in his twenties and is partially paralyzed. He has never referred to it,as I have heard, but I think those are the facts.

On another subject,Drudge has a story about several democrat congressmen leasing expensive cars on the taxpayers dime. Some cars run as high as $1000 a month. No Republicans are listed, but there may be some.Rangel leases a Cadillac for about $900 a month.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard and should be stopped ASAP.I never knew this and there is absolutely no excuse for such a blatant misuse of taxpayers dollars.

before I could post
UncleB at first questions Goshawk about the made
up story (see snopes.com) and then justifies it
to himself based on prejudice.

On the lapel pin, you need to go back to the
original quote [whether you like to wear a lapel
pin or not - my flag pin received as a result of
a gift of a Reader's Digest subscription was made
in China and quickly found its way in the trash,
but I digress]:
"You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin," Obama said. "Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest.

"Instead," he said, "I'm going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism."

This statement isn't exactly true because Obama
does wear a pin if offered one, on occasion.
But I would add if he said also "acting out"
on issues I would have agreed 100%

REMINDER TO ALL - THE FLAG PIN IS NOT THE FLAG
ANY MORE THAN A FLAG BIKINI IS.

Hawk
You're saying there's a moral equivalence between Rev Wright and Hitler? Man do you have a whacked out moral compass.

Also, consider this: In Obama's Audacity of Hope book he recounts meeting George Bush for the first time and how, without realizing it first, he found himself walking down the hall with his arm around Bush.

My point is that this is the kind of guy Obama is. He assumes the best about people until they give him clear evidence that they know longer deserve it.

Barack Obama is a fine, upstanding young man. This country would be lucky to have him as our president.

And I think the right wing should be embarrassed that they can't find anything of substance to attack Obama on, so they resort to going after his pastor. What a bunch of sleazeballs. Have you people nothing positive to say about your own candidate. Can't you win this race by playing it straight and arguing the issues? I guess not.

TeeHall writes: "With the latest rantings of Wright and the peculiar confessions of Obama, the StuporDelegates now have a reason to toss Obama."

Doesn't matter.
They can't toss Obama.

They're terrified of riots in the streets if they do.

As you saw on TV, Reverend Wright's allied with the Nation of Islam (they supplied his "bodyguards") and the New Black Panther Party (they were in the audience cheering him on).

And they could make real trouble at the Democratic Convention in Denver.

stevel
if the blacks want to riot in the streets of denver, let them. But let the blacks understand there will be consequences. It's long past time when blacks are forced to pay a price for their temper tantrums which result in the deaths of others and destruction of property

Every time these entitlement parasites cause financial loss there needs to be cuts in the funding of the plantation. If the blacks burn down building in denver, lets take the funds from rangels personal monument in harlem.

This idea that blacks can somehow continue to get a pass for civil disorder should have ended long ago. How many riots at various cities around the country have resulted in billions of dollars in property destruction with no punishments resulting from the law breaking acts.

Yet why is it that blacks are the ones committing these acts of violence. Have we heard anything from the clinton camp that should their heroine not get the dims nod they will riot and put the torch to denver and elsewhere. We only hear that from the blacks. Why is that?

Yet the libs/dims/socialists will always provide cover and make excuses to justify black civil disorder as somehow societies fault. If wright and his ilk are so proud of africa and believe in the afrocentric thinking I am sure that with his $10 million line of credit he wouldn't have to settle for a mere mansion in a white suburb. He could take his sorry behind to africa and purchase an estate probably larger than the entire city of chicago. But then wright would have to live amongst blacks and his obvious goal was to reside amongst the whites he castigates as the oppressors

writes, "So what we have here is Obama giving a man the benefit of the doubt, until he publicly proved that he wasn't worthy of it. And for that, Krauthammer calls him a liar. Is Martin Marty a liar too Krauthammer?"

Short answer, yes. The key word in your explanation on behalf of Obama is the word public. Wright had to PUBLICLY prove he was not worthy of it? No amount of private proof, say twenty years of sucking up and attending his church, would do it?

Standard liberal operating procedure. Is Wright's church not open to the public? Are you a liar too Phylo out? Short answer, definitely yes. If a liberal's lips are moving, it is prima facia evidence.

It does get dreary reading your posts calling any and every conservative a liar. Your posts reveal the truth. I feel I must force myself to read your drivel since I do not speak with my mother in law but once or twice a year. I lose touch with the moonbat point of view.

Heck, I am already weary of your calling everyone in this country a racist for not electing Obama and it has not even happened yet, you are so predictable.

Right Wingers
I don't know about the rest of the 'right wing',but I have plenty of things about Obama to attack. His whole platform. He has advocated not one thing that I can agree on.

If there had never BEEN a Jeremiah Wright,Obama would still be too Socialistic for me.He wants ever-growing government programs, which will break the bank, even more than it already is.

Also, his friends, besides Wright.Check them out.Bad news. His inexperience in any type business or our government. He had his senate seat handed to him with almost no opposition and has been almost insignificent since.Need more?

Too little, too late
This whole thing could have been avoided had Obama, when these clips and sound-bytes first came out, said something to the effect of:

"I know Rev. Wright's words are offensive to a great many people in this country, and I know that my association with him, and therefore those words, will be called into question, especially where it regards my fitness to hold high office. However, while I will not denounce a man who has been a good spiritual mentor and friend to myself and my family, I can say with absolute confidence that I do not subscribe to the views on race and America that Rev. Wright has expressed."

That could even be a complete lie. He could buy Rev. Wright's line of Bravo Sierra hook, line, and sinker. But coming out early, dealing with it, and ACKNOWLEDGING the inappropriate nature of the remarks and his ties to Rev. Wright would probably have moved this mess to the back burner.

The problem is that Obama first defended his pastor, then denied that he ever heard racist sermons, then blamed the media for playing the clips over and over, then declared that statements like "God D--n America" were taken out of context, then blaming the whole thing on White America not understanding what Black America thinks (while White America bitterly clings to guns, religion and bigotry), and finally, he says that the racist, blasphemous, anti-American Rev. Wright we saw this week wasn't the same man he met 20 years ago. Even in distancing himself from Wright, Obama can't bring himself to distance himself.

Note to Democrats: If you do something stupid, like spend 20 years with a hate-mongering pastor or fooling around with an intern, acknowledge it immediately. Don't cover it up by calling it a "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" or attributing it to ignorant whites. Say "I was an idiot, I did something stupid, and I got caught." Problems like that don't fester when you own up to them.

Happy Jake
writes, "Problems like that don't fester when you own up to them."

Excellent advice for the libs but, they will not take it. The first three rules of liberals are deny, deny, and deny. Avoid any responsibility like the plague. Only if confronted with incontrovertible evidence, is it permissible to admit a mistake. Even then, it is best to just keep spinning since the media will eventually tire of the story and move on.

Hitchhiker
You're calling Martin Marty a liar. Do you know who he is?

The fact is Dr. Wright is more complicated than you want to believe. You want to crystalize him into pure evil, but the truth, as usual, is much more complicated than that. Many people consider him to be a brilliant theologian and biblical scholar. Many of his speeches are uplifting and incredibly insightful. (Go look up his speech The Audacity to Hope. It's excellent.) He criticizes America, but he was willing to give his life for this country. He blames racism for many of the problems in the black community, but he also preaches about personal responsibility and hope.

Admit it, you don't know the man as well as Obama and Martin Marty. They have seen the positive things he brings, as well as his shortcomings. Yet somehow, you, in your infinite wisdom, have decided that you know that Martin Marty and Barack Obama are liars when they say that the man they saw over those few days, and in those snippets, was not the man they know.

Do you think you're an all-knowing God or something?

Ferraro is not off the hook
Poor Ferraro is not off the hook. The racist comment about Obama still stands and it's not up to you, Reverend Wright, Obama, talk radio or even Fox news to excuse her for saying it. Ferraro saw Hillary's frustration and the decision was made to say that the only reason Obama was winning was because he was a black man. Nothing Reverend Wright has said in the past or present can change history. Ferraro meant what she said and if it sounded racist, it's because that how it was meant to sound. Ferraro is a very intelligent woman. She's in full control of herself and the English language. She's a well spoken woman who doesn't need anyone to make excuses for her. Ferraro made a racist comment and those are the facts. Being that it came out as a racist comment, is exactly how it was suppose to imply, the only reason Obama is winning is because his is a black man. Frustration made Ferraro do it and Hillary rejected her racist comment only once and it was accepted. Obama has rejected Reverend Wright more then once and none of his rejections have been accepted. Could it be Obama's rejections are not accepted because those who attack Obama won't accept them because Obama is a black man. Ferraro is not off the hook and neither are those who attack Obama because he is a black man running for president.

absolutely I'm saying there is an equivalence between wright and Hitler. Both are narcissistic, paranoid megalomaniacs. So if in Hitler's case everyhting he's said and done is tainted by his amoral character, so too is wright's. Listen, before when wright/obama kept saying that these vitriolic things wright said were "taken out of context" and "30 seconds out of 20 years" (both of course disproven by wright's recent lunacy), I said it didn't matter because it takes less than a second to fire a gun to kill someone, but is it any less of a crime than poisoning someone to death? Now, as far as substantive issues: I completely agree. Let's get beyond the inconsequencial and nittpicky issues of character, truthfulness, honesty, experience, and judgment.
Let's start talkin' real issues.
I agree increasing taxes in a slow economy is wise.
I agree taking guns friom law-abiding citizens will keep them safe.
I agree taking over health care by big gov't will make it more efficient, like amtrak and chicago's CTA, as well as the Department of Ejukashun.
I agree automatically making illegals citizens, including the 100 million/year that immigrate here for free lunch.
I agree we should leave Iraq; it's a better idea to fight them here in 15 years since we will have the home field advantage as well as allowing the soldiers easier access to R $ R with their families in their burned out shells of homes.
Am I missing anything?
Oh, yeah, I agree that suspending the gas tax for the summer is "dumb," just like bloomberg does, because it only saves ~30 cents/gallon, a mere bag of shells to truckers and rich folks earning minimum wage.
Okay, I'm done for now...

Actually, in the case of Fred Thompson, his downfall was not from a lack of vetting. It was from the lack of energy he put into his campaign coupled with a late start and a lack of campaign funding. His ideals did however sit well with many conservatives for the most part.

Hawk,

So you think that tax cuts are called for, even though we're running record deficits? Keep in mind: we have a 9 trillion dollar debt right now, which was 3 trillion when Bush took office, and it's growing by $350 billion dollars a year.

It's fine with you if we lose 800 soldiers and 250 billion dollars a year to prevent Iraqis from killing each other?

You disagree with almost every economist that the gas tax holiday would do more to benefit refineries than consumers? Not to mention the fact that it takes $10 billion out of construction for our roads and bridges.

You think we should tell people with pre-existing medical conditions "tough luck, we don't really care if you live or die"?

Obama believes in the second amendment but thinks local governments should be able to enact laws that restrict some uses. It's called federalism.

Obama's health care plan saves the average family about $2500 per year in insurance costs, and is not a government run health care system. You don't like that either, right?

I'm starting to understand why you guys would prefer to stick with attacking Obama's pastor. That's a much stronger argument for you guys.

You'd better hope it holds up until November though. Boy, I think people are going to be awfully sick of it by then. Oh well. Good luck with that.

Wright said nothing new..
...the other day than he had been saying for years, except for dismissing Obama dismissing him as Obama being a typical politician.

A few weeks ago we were told by Obama that this pastor could be a little off the wall, but he was really a good, kind hearted, loving uncle figure that you had to know to appreciate and if you couldn't understan that you were just a typical white person.

Now Wright not only will not shutup but he waves off Obama as acting like what he is, a politician. All the sudden the crazy uncle has not only escaped the attic but he's talking down to the fair-haired child. Roll the cameras and key the mikes, Obama just heard hateful talk from the pastor, "Why, I had no idea, this isn't the person I thought I knew, and he must not know me too well either".

Personally I believe he started attending that church to gain political credentials in the community and he will dump that church for political points on the national level if he thinks it is expedient.

everyonesfacts
It isn't that people are not aware of "black anger", it is that many people don't believe "black anger" is justified by slavery 150 years after the fact, or Jim Crowe 40-50 odd years later.

When does history become history and stop being an excuse?

best descriptions of wright's pov
were by Obama:

The profound mistake of Reverend Wright’s sermons is not that he spoke about racism in our society. It’s that he spoke as if our society was static; as if no progress has been made; as if this country – a country that has made it possible for one of his own members to run for the highest office in the land and build a coalition of white and black; Latino and Asian, rich and poor, young and old — is still irrevocably bound to a tragic past. But what we know — what we have seen – is that America can change. That is true genius of this nation. What we have already achieved gives us hope – the audacity to hope – for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.

And:

"My reaction has more to do with what I want this campaign to be about and who I am. And I want to make certain that people understand who I am.

In some ways what Reverend Wright said yesterday directly contradicts everything that I’ve done during my life. It contradicts how I was raised and the setting in which I was raised.

It contradicts my decisions to pursue a career of public service. It contradicts the issues that I’ve worked on politically. It contradicts what I’ve said in my books.

It contradicts what I said in my convention speech in 2004. It contradicts my announcement. It contradicts everything that I’ve been saying on this campaign trail.

And what I tried to do in Philadelphia was to provide a context and to lift up some of the contradictions and complexities of race in America, of which Reverend Wright is a part and we’re all a part, and try to make something constructive out of it.

But there wasn’t anything constructive out of yesterday. All there was was a bunch of rants that aren’t grounded in truth. And I can’t construct something positive out of that."

"...is still a great speech."

Only to those wanting to perpetuate the myth and the farce (like this speech) that whitey is the real problem. This is a shared issue and a "Catch 22" that no one, especially Obama, is willing to address. The blacks blanket charge whites and their leaders with racism who then in turn point out advances getting "yeah buts" while whites slowly turn against angry blacks. At some point the blacks (and many conservatives do) have to state the obvious. Everyone acknowledge that there is advancement and then focus resources on the areas there aren't. Its real easy and profitable to keep up the blanket charges. Obama is trying to reap those rewards. Wright has shot them down for this cycle. Maybe in '12.

"Only to those wanting to perpetuate the myth and the farce (like this speech) that whitey is the real problem."

That certainly is not what the speech is about.
Unless you are deliberately misreading it as
Krauthammer does.

"This is a shared issue and a "Catch 22" that no one, especially Obama, is willing to address."

That's what he said, except for the "especially Obama" part.

"The blacks blanket charge whites and their leaders with racism who then in turn point out advances getting "yeah buts" while whites slowly turn against angry blacks."

That is more or less what he said.

"At some point the blacks (and many conservatives do) have to state the obvious. Everyone acknowledge that there is advancement and then focus resources on the areas there aren't."

That is more or less what he said.

"Its real easy and profitable to keep up the blanket charges. Obama is trying to reap those rewards. Wright has shot them down for this cycle. Maybe in '12."

Well, it ain't over.
And you really need to read the WHOLE speech
for yourself.
I can give quotes from the speech to show that
you are more or less saying "yeah, what Obama said."

Obama is damaging Wrights career
I can't understand why Obama continues to damage his Mentor's career.

impeachbush:
You claim the NPC Q&A session was a Clinton cam-
paign setup. And maybe it was.

But nobody set up Wright to make him give the
answers he did, isn't that right?

You and all the other left-wing apologists for
Wright and his protege Obama may as well admit
it - BHO isn't the post-racial messiah you were
hoping for, but just another hack politician;
a politician with baggage that's likely to
sink him.

CALL THE CORONER!!
its real simple.... as a matter of fact let me spell it out for everybody to understand! lets to the facts! obama and his angry street like wife attended that church (if you even want to call it a church) for 20 plus years listening to that garbage but want us to believe hes running to help unite people?

Dare to be fair
A lot of you are so certain in your opinion of Rev Wright that you simply can't fathom how anyone could remain a member of his church.

Martin Marty, one of the most respected pastors in the nation and the author of over fifty books wrote a piece four days ago about Rev Wright.

He has known Rev Wright for more than forty years, and while has some criticisms of Rev Wright, still does not feel the need to disown the man.

If a man such as Martin Marty could be friends with Rev Wright, and still support him, is it really so hard to see how Barack Obama could?

PLease read this article and dare to be fair.

http://chronicle.com/free/v54/i30/30b00101.htm

Here's one highlight:

In the early 1960s, at a time when many young people were being radicalized by the Vietnam War, Wright left college and volunteered to join the United States Marine Corps. After three years as a marine, he chose to serve three more as a naval medical technician, during which time he received several White House commendations. He came to Chicago to study not long after Martin Luther King Jr.'s murder in 1968, the U.S. bombing campaign in Cambodia in 1969, and the shooting of students at Kent State University in 1970.

Phylo out.

Obama and Wright
I don't understand why Obama continues to damage his Mentors' career?

Obama will discard anyone I guess.

Wright hasn't abandoned Obama.

Wright is standing up for his beliefs even while under attack from Obama.

Wright is showing more character than Obama - he isn't throwing his grandmother under the bus.

chillers
You've got some anger issues there buddy.

I can't wait to see what you have to say the day after he wins the election.

McCain is going to look stupid against Obama in debates. He will win in a route.

chillers
not everyone of sound mind agrees with you.

The biggest thing to avoid in the future is another
unnecessary war. Obama if he wins the nomination
will be less likely to do that.

Thus, he is also surprisingly with the programs
he wants to begin the economic conservative of
the major 2 parties. McCain's cutting of taxes
without cutting programs is something but it is
not conservative.

Remember the #1 rule of economic conservativism
don't spend what you don't have.

I'll check back later.

If Mr. Obama seems to good to be true ..
Then he probably isn't true!

And that is my final answer!

BTW: Thanks Mr. Krauthammer!!!!

martin marty
my original post seems to have been lost in cyberspace

marty seems to give wright a pass based on their long association. But then again when did one religious person ever critisize a friend and associate.

But marty is troubled by wright's association with farrakhan, his notion the govt created aids and wright's still living in the past in reference to treatment of blacks.

But other than defending his friend marty is not really providing any insight

everyonesfacts
"The biggest thing to avoid in the future is another unnecessary war. Obama if he wins the nomination will be less likely to do that."

I'll go one better than that. Obama will stand for nothing except "peace at any price." In other words, he'll be a spineless "dove" in the order of Jimmy Carter.

Obama quit dividing
I don't understand why Obama insists on dividing the black church.

I don't understand why he insists on attacking Mentor Wright who is bringing unity.

Obama has NO shame.

Mentor Wright is not discarding Obama or his grandmother.

Mentor Wright never tutored Obama on unity I guess.

Obama quit your attacks on Mentor Wright!!!!!!!

Phylo,to be fair..
...your support of Obama makes you overlook how other people may have problems with Wright. Evidently Obama himself now seems to be one of them.

Martin Marty may have glowing words for Wright, so did Obama a few weeks ago.

As to Wright starting his sudies during the time period of Kings murder, the Cambodia bombing campaign and the shootings at Kent State. Exactly how does this tie together? In the same time period America landed men on the moon, Nixon was elected president, the Beatles broke up, 2001 A Space Odessy was on the big screen, Chevrolet discontinued the Corvair and Rowan & Martins Laugh-In was a TV hit, are any of these also meaningful to Wright getting an education? It isn't like Wright was the only person living during those times. I was also in school when King was murdered, I don't believe you would feel that gives me any special insight on the world.

Support Obama if you like but to be dismissive of others who have their doubts does little to aid in your arguements.

IM4Bush...
You wrote: "It was apparent that those questions did not come from the audience but were scripted ahead of time..." by Mrs. Clinton's campaign.

So who forced him to answer as he did?

Nice try- it's all Hillary's fault.
Weak.

The Truth vs Barack Obama
Check out "The Truth vs Barack Obama"
http://savagepolitics.com/?p=317

I saw this today, and HAD to share it with everyone. It is just a brilliantly researched and written list of inconsistencies with several of Obama's stories. I think it should be done for ALL three candidates, but I guess this is a good way to start at finally looking at the candidates with some honesty.

SteveL
I really can't see any similarity between Fred Thompson's campaign (which never really took off) and Mr. Obama's (which took off and soared, and now appears to be crashing).
?

Phylo
"He came to Chicago to study not long after Martin Luther King Jr.'s murder in 1968, the U.S. bombing campaign in Cambodia in 1969, and the shooting of students at Kent State University in 1970."

And your point is...?

Here's a little song...
Here's a little song I wrote after the Bill Moyers "interview." I dedicate to Moyers, Wright, and Obama:

Oh, where have you been, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Oh, where have you been, Billy Moyers?
"To Reverend Wright I have been;
His hateful words I hope to spin;
He's a liberal, and we must not disgrace him."

Does he really hate all whites, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Does he really hate all whites, Billy Moyers?
"Have you listened to this man?
He sounds like Louis Farrakhan!
But he's a liberal, and we must not disgrace him."

Is he on the up-and-up, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Is he on the up-and-up, Billy Moyers?
"No, he's probably a crook,
But that fault I'll overlook,
'Cause he's a liberal, and we must not disgrace him."

Did you do an honest show, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Did you do an honest show, Billy Moyers?
"'Twas no chance of doing that,
For I, too, am a Democrat;
And he's a liberal, so we must not disgrace him."

Did you ask him any tough ones, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Did you ask him any tough ones, Billy Moyers?
"No, I merely licked his boots
And blamed the right wing; 'twas a hoot!
For he's a liberal, and we must not disgrace him!"

Has Obama denounced Wright, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Has Obama denounced Wright, Billy Moyers?
"Yes, Obama finally did,
After his numbers hit the skids;
But he's a liberal, and we must not disgrace him!"

Does Obama have a chance, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Does Obama have a chance, Billy Moyers?
"If voters learn they have been rooked,
Obama's goose will then be cooked.
But he's a liberal, and we must not disgrace him!"

verbivore - good question
Re: "He came to Chicago to study not long after Martin Luther King Jr.'s murder in 1968, the U.S. bombing campaign in Cambodia in 1969, and the shooting of students at Kent State University in 1970."

Seems like that could have been shortened to "He came to Chicago in 1971 to study."
:-)

verbivore- PS
Oh wait! maybe he's trying to establish that Rv Wright didn't shoot Dr. King or the Kent state students or bomb Cambodia....

wildwest
wildwest writes: "But marty is troubled by wright's association with farrakhan, his notion the govt created aids and wright's still living in the past in reference to treatment of blacks."

Phylo: Have you noticed that that is exactly how Barack HUSSEIN Obama feels about him?

Martin Marty and Barack Obama seem to be a lot alike. They both are the kind of men who are capable of seeing shortcomings in a man, and yet still also see all of the positive qualities in him. Sound like a couple of good guys to me.

Same Socialist Dialectic Relative Truth
Truth is what benefits the party and the spread of Communism. It was that way with Marx, Lenin, That New York emigre Leon Trotsky, Sun Yat Sen and Mao Tse Tung, Stalin , General Emanuelsky and the Moscow School. This "Ends justifies the means, Philosophy was allude to by that ex-Fabian Socialist, George Orwell and his "Ministry of Truth". The dialectic, relative propaganda continues with Saul Alinsky, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Barack Obama , Hillary Clinton have an agenda to turn the sovereigny of the US to a Socialist/Muslim dictatorship of the United Nations. Whatever it takes to achieve their objective of the eradication of capitalism, our Constitution, Christianity and the new kulak and Jew of the liberal Fourth Reichthe Conservative Caucasian male. Machiavelli would be proud of both of them

verbivore
That was a quote from Martin Marty's article on Wright. I think his point was to remind people of how turbulent those times were. It felt, to a lot of people, like the world was going to fall apart.

And does Dr. Wright, in your opinion, deserve any credit for rejecting the radical views of the times and joining with the more positive and, yes, conservative institutions (i.e., the military and the church)?

All I'm saying, all Barack Obama is saying, all Martin Marty is saying, is that people need take the whole of the man into account before you judge him. I'm not saying you have to like him or respect him. I'm saying don't allow yourself to fall into the trap of judging a person based on too little information. And don't count on right wing media, or even mainstream media to give you the whole story. Believe me, they love the ratings they get when they talk about Rev Wright.

Nice to chat with you again. You're one of the more reasonable voices on this website. Too many of them are unthinking lugnuts with anger issues.

Sir Charles has nailed it
Any rational thinking, fair-minded individual could not in good conscience vote for Sen Obama.

I'm trusting that our electorate will not be deceived.

Barack runs Left, Hillary Runs up Middle
Barack OBama. He will act as the flypaper and bug zapper , attracting all those pesky, annoying and embarassing politically coorect zealots. Let Barack Obama be tainted with his ties to the racist Reverend Wright, Radical SDS Marxist revolutionary friends. So many radicals, progressive socialist and every group with an ax to grind have already betrayed and deserted Hillary. (And hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.).. She will use that (Planned?) dissociation to her advantage, claiming she noe has no allegiance to the Marxist and progreesives that control much of the Democratic Party. As Senator Obama draws the support of the extremist far left, Hillary will appear sensible, concerned for the common person. By doing this, she will gain the independents that Senator McCain had hoped to garne. Senator McCain gambled that he could acquire the independents and Reagan Deomocrats by his defiant rejection of conservative members of the Republican Party. Basically, Hillary and the old guard DNC machine pulled a brilliant tactical, Rope-a-dope coup on "the maverick",Senator McCain. The liberals enticed Senator McCain using his love of glory and approval. With the lure of media endorsement, accolades and admiration, the hubris of Senator McCain was enticed to reject his loyal supporters and to become a bi-partisan buddy with Ted Kennedy and Sen. Feingold. He was promised the the dream of capturing all those independent and undecided voters. But these were the voters Hillary had targeted all along. Like a Machiavellian Maurice De Tallyrand, Senator Clinton will now transform into a moderate, turning Senator Obama into a radicalized Ralph Nader and John McCain as a Judas who rejected his party and base. Only a major shift to the conservative right, a conservative VP like Duncan Hunter, and lots of apologies and appeasements can save Senator McCain now.McCain to swing right and Hillary to run up the middle?

THROW GRANDMA UNDER THE BUS!!!
Throw her under, she's a bigot. She said that she is afraid of black men walking down the street. No wait, that's what Rev. Jessie Jackson said.

What ever it takes to win Barrack, what ever it takes...

Phylo Se Fiser said:
My point is that this is the kind of guy Obama is. He assumes the best about people until they give him clear evidence that they know longer deserve it.

Oh yeah? Since when is gullibility a desirable quality in a leader? So, let's see, Obama assumed the best about Ahmadinejad until, by nuking Israel out of existence, he provided Obama with clear evidence that he "know" longer deserved it.

Great logic there, Phylo. BTW, it's "no." LOL

what is with you libs that you can't fail to parade you ignorance and your hatred. So many of us on the right, the repubs and the conservs don't want to see a lib dim as president and that we find wrights message divisive and hateful.''

stating hannity is a nazi because he dislikes wright's message and doesn't want to see the oblahma as a president is pure idiocy.

As for the educational system it is a totally broken program with a greedy teachers union more concerned about picking up a paycheck and teaching self esteem than actual knowledge.

Wright is not some little known ghetto preacher but has great renown amongst other black preachers who share his vitimization theology. That he wasn't as well known as sharpton and jackson was only due to his inability to bring himself to the national media's attention.

But you and your new girl friend impeach bush seem more in need of getting a motel room where you can take delight in sharing ypour affection and screwball ideas wioth each other

It seems we have lost this thread to the moonbats. They have pretty well hogged the time and space with their fictional posts. They are completely delusional.I'm sure they don't believe a word they say,but do it to irritate us.

Frick and Frack are the same way. Both are far left and I doubt either would vote for McCain, but they think it irritates us,so they claim to be for him, because they know a lot of us are not pleased with him.

I listen to Washington Journal on C-Span every morning with my coffee. It is a call-in show.Lines are designated Dem.,Rep.and others.Democrats hog all the phone calls, pretending to be Republican,or Independent, but in fact are Democrats. They lie about such a little thing. That's the way they aare ,though.

HOW MOST BLACK PEOPLE THINK....
most white people are voting for clinton simply put....shes more experienced or normal type reasons why anybody would vote for somebody!! one thing we dont do is vote for somebody just because they are white! we arn't that stupid!....

what i find incredibly dumb is most (92% - 96%) of black people are voting for obama simply because hes black!! that shows a great lack of judgement or intelligence at least to me it does.

you know if obama was on the national news tonight in handcuffs becuase he just pulled a armed robbery 92% -96% of black would still vote for him simply becauase hes black and they just cant go against a black man (or for better words be considered a uncle tom or some b.s. like that which most black people would call their own color if god forbid they did vote against him)!

that to me is what makes most black people look like they have no intelligence because they are groomed to never ever go against their own black man ever! that to me is where most black people need to work on because they are truly hurting themselfves not thinking for themselves!!
dumb!

IT MIGHT BE TIME FOR MOST BLACK PEOPLE TO WAKE UP AND START DOING WHAT YOUR OWN INDIVIDUAL MIND WANTS TO DO INSTEAD OF BEING PROGRAMMED BY YOUR WHATEVER!!

ISNT IT ABOUT TIME SOME BLACK PEOPLE TRY FOR ONCE DOING IT THE WAY THEY WANT TO DO THINGS? OR EXPIERMENT AROUND TO AT LEAST KNOW WHAT THEY WANT INSTEAD OF BEING STEROTYPED TO HAVE TO MAKE THEIR DECISIONS ON HOW THEIR FAMILY OR FRIENDS DO IT!! THATS WHERE MOST OF YOU LOSE!! YOUR TOO AFRAID TO DO WHAT IT IS YOU WANT TO INSTEAD SUCKING UP TO HOW PEOPLE OF YOUR OWN COLOR DO IT!!

GET IT? START THINKING INDEPENDENTLY!!

I LOVE ALL OF YOU BUT NOT WHEN YOU GROUP UP LIKE THAT AND DONT THINK FOR YOURSELF OUT OF FEAR TO DO WHAT YOU WANT INDIVIDUALLY!

taft
Thanks for the giant laughs.
Americans are "thrusting" for a president?
Thrusting? Eeeewww. Speak for yourself Dude.

'Proven' moral track record? It was only moral when the slate was blank. The more we learn the less blank that slate is.

As for 'no more abramhofs': If you drank Mr. Obama's special interest kool aid, you are fixin' to be very disillusioned. You must be 25 (the new 12).

Your 6:02pm post: Excellent.
