Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON -- The beauty of a speech is that you don't just give the answers, you provide your own questions. "Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes." So said Barack Obama, in his Philadelphia speech about his pastor, friend, mentor and spiritual adviser of 20 years, Jeremiah Wright.

An interesting, if belated, admission. But the more important question is: which "controversial" remarks?

Wright's assertion from the pulpit that the U.S. government invented the HIV virus "as a means of genocide against people of color"? Wright's claim that America was morally responsible for 9/11 -- "chickens coming home to roost" -- because of, among other crimes, Hiroshima and Nagasaki? (Obama says he missed church that day. Had he never heard about it?)

What about the charge that the U.S. government (of Franklin Roosevelt, mind you) knew about Pearl Harbor, but lied about it? Or that the government gives drugs to black people, presumably to enslave and imprison them?

Obama condemns such statements as wrong and divisive, then frames the next question: "There will no doubt be those for whom my statements of condemnation are not enough. Why associate myself with Reverend Wright in the first place, they may ask? Why not join another church?"

But that is not the question. The question is why didn't he leave that church? Why didn't he leave -- why doesn't he leave even today -- a pastor who thundered not once but three times from the pulpit (on a DVD the church proudly sells) "God damn America"? Obama's 5,000-word speech, fawned over as a great meditation on race, is little more than an elegantly crafted, brilliantly sophistic justification of that scandalous dereliction.

His defense rests on two central propositions: (a) moral equivalence, and (b) white guilt.

(a) Moral equivalence. Sure, says Obama, there's Wright, but at the other "end of the spectrum" there's Geraldine Ferraro, opponents of affirmative action and his own white grandmother, "who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe." But did she shout them in a crowded theater to incite, enrage and poison others?

"I can no more disown (Wright) than I can my white grandmother." What exactly was grandma's offense? Jesse Jackson himself once admitted to the fear he feels from the footsteps of black men on the street. And Harry Truman was known to use epithets for blacks and Jews in private, yet is revered for desegregating the armed forces and recognizing the first Jewish state since Jesus' time. He never spread racial hatred. Nor did grandma.

Yet Obama compares her to Wright. Does he not see the moral difference between the occasional private expression of the prejudices of one's time and the use of a public stage to spread racial lies and race hatred?

(b) White guilt. Obama's purpose in the speech was to put Wright's outrages in context. By context, Obama means history. And by history, he means the history of white racism. Obama says, "We do not need to recite here the history of racial injustice in this country," and then proceeds to do precisely that. And what lies at the end of his recital of the long train of white racial assaults from slavery to employment discrimination? Jeremiah Wright, of course.

This contextual analysis of Wright's venom, this extenuation of black hate speech as a product of white racism, is not new. It's the Jesse Jackson politics of racial grievance, expressed in Ivy League diction and Harvard Law nuance. That's why the speech made so many liberal commentators swoon: It bathed them in racial guilt, while flattering their intellectual pretensions. An unbeatable combination.

But Obama was supposed to be new. He flatters himself as a man of the future transcending the anger of the past as represented by his beloved pastor. Obama then waxes rhapsodic about the hope brought by the new consciousness of the young people in his campaign.

Then answer this, senator: If Wright is a man of the past, why would you expose your children to his vitriolic divisiveness? This is a man who curses America and who proclaimed moral satisfaction in the deaths of 3,000 innocents at a time when their bodies were still being sought at Ground Zero. It is not just the older congregants who stand and cheer and roar in wild approval of Wright's rants, but young people as well. Why did you give $22,500 just two years ago to a church run by a man of the past who infects the younger generation with precisely the racial attitudes and animus you say you have come unto us to transcend?

The United Trinity...
...Christian Church of Chicago is a farce and a front for rascist black extremists, and possibly radical Mooslims (sic). There is nothing "Christian" about it.

How many Christian pastors routinely violate the 10 commandmants by using the Lord's name in vain?

Notice the Liberal double-standard here: Obambi exposes his innocent children to this vile, vulgar, hate speech week after week, yet retains custody of these kids.

Doesn't gov't know best?
/sarc off.

B. Hussein Obamba: The anti-Jew, anti-American, Trojan horse. Sorry boy, the jig is up!

you
both are so right.

Jesus gave a new commandment that we love one another as He has loved us so the world would know we are His disciples. So given that
what do we call the irreverent Wright and his
jumping, clapping, back slapping yelling congregation? Disciples?
My husband says Wright just cursed every American
citizen in that vile rant some call a sermon.
Says it is in the Bible, but what chapter, what verse? Hubby also says he is encouraging his
congregation to sin by teaching hate. But if he didn't the money tree would dry up. He's a louder, more vicious version of Je$$e Jack$on
and Al $harpton.
The speech didn't impress me, but it showed me
a sanctimonious prig in all his glory.

The Sun Always Shines...
...on TV.

Open Comment to Bore (ack)YoMama:

Listen, all of your *monologues sound the same. So, I hope you don't mind, but I recorded this last speech, and over-dubbed a continuous loop of A-Ha's "The Sun Always Shines on TV."

To be quite honest, the message is the same, but A-Ha is more appealing...possibly sans rascism?

*Will you ever digress from egocentric monologues? Was it those 8 tough questions in San Antonio during the Texas primary that sent you scurrying back into your O-Bunny hole?

So many questions; so little time
That Obama, the first candidate to supposedly transcend racial animus, to associate himself in such an intimate way with Wright is a breath-taking contradiction and breeds a plethora of questions. Of course, the speech side-stepped them all by focusing on larger racial questions, of which we all aware.

Nothing new in the speech. It was just a side-stepping, excuse-making political CYA.

I would like to ask: On what points does Barack agree with Wright? Disagree? Where does Barack stand on black liberation theology? On liberation theology in general? On the Nation of Islam? On Hamas?

Given his close association with Wright, I would like to know in what ways Wright has informed Obama's political philosphy. I would like to know why Barack seeks to endow his daughters with Wright's legacy of racial victimhood? How is it hopeful change to mire a fresh, new generation in the same old festering cesspool?

I would like to know if Barack just ambiably followed his angry wife into this church. Are there any core convictions with this guy? If so, what are they?

None of this makes any sense. Some real answers would be nice. Keep asking questions, Charles.

Are We Willing to Gamble?
Even if we really wanted to give Obama the benefit of the doubt and make excuses to justify WHY he's been listening to vile sermons for nearly 20 years, we can't possibly entrust the Presidency to this man, whatever his color is.

We are talking about the position of President of the United States; the most powerful man on the face of the earth. Do we know what he would do with that kind of power? Can we entrust our safety, wellbeing, and our children's futures to him? Who would he appoint to key positions in his administration? People like Wright and Farrakhan?

This whole issue of race is an excuse, a campaign tactic he's trying to turn around to his advantage. Fact is, his hand was caught in the cookie jar; now he's trying to remind us that our hand has been there too, at one time or another. The fact that he's running neck-to-neck with Hillary clearly shows that Americans have outgrown much of their "racist" past. Sure, racism does still exist out there, but not the flaming racism Wright is shouting.

Our pastors, rabbis, priests, ministers, gurus, etc. DO NOT preach like Wright. Obama implies that we are all like that, and we aren't.

Voting for Obama in November would be a huge gamble, and the stakes are too, too high to take that risk...

Rev Wright preaches
marxist Jesus just like Hugo Chavez and Daniel Ortega do. Just say no to marxist-Jesus. Only in bizarro-world is Rev Wright's sermons based on race, spite, envy etc... remotely Christian.

This is the man who inspired Obama to have audacity to hope. SCARY!

/sarc on
Really, I find all this sudden frank talk about race to be gauche. Can't we all just get along? Worse, how are the implied (and Krauthammer-detected) racial propositions of his speech any more repugnant than his galvanizing call for unification for the cause of socialism?

Even worse, where was the avalanche of outrage over Obama's association with the Pentagon bomber? One night on Fox News seems so unproportional. Surely Just War Theory allows us a higher quota of outrage in self-defense than that. Barracks lawyers, thoughts? If ever there were a need for histrionic theatrical outrage, that would surely be the occasion.

Of course, said little revolutionary propounding the damnation of America via "Kill all the rich people," was white at the time, and is now completely invisible. Sadly, I am only able to deduce these formulae for future study by liberal social scientists:

whitey + anti-American + violence + secular condemnation + no camera = political snoozefest.

negro + anti-American + nonviolence + theological condemnation + camera = political armageddon.

Was it gauche of me to say that?

Brickhouse is right.
I would not vote for Obama anyway but if you were so inclined read the wisdom of the Brickhouse Post above.

Drop by and see the world's only picture of a Blockheaded Mistake.

"Obama's association with the Pentagon bomber?"

I am not familiar with this. Link, or reference please.

Outstanding Summation
Charles - you said everything I thought when I listened to Obama's speech. Especially the moral equivalence of grandma and Geraldine being the same as Rev. Wright. From what I read earlier today, it sounds like Ms. Ferraro is a bit upset about that comparison too.

A great speech would have been Obama telling us that it is time to end the race issue by everybody taking responsibility for themselves and to quite blaming everything on "whitey". He could have pointed to himself and his wife as examples of overcoming obstacles and succeeding in life. However, that kind of talk is not tolerated in the black community. Just ask Bill Cosby.

Don't it just warm your heart knowing that clowns like this (No disrespect to Bozo)are teaching the so called leaders of the future.May God help us all.

All Americans Need to Know is
Obama has been mentored by Wright his ENTIRE ADULT LIFE (20 out of 45 years). This means if he was president, one of the most influencial people in his life would be a man that openly preaches "God damn America" and believes that white americans created the AIDS virus to destroy the black americans. Do americans what a president whose mentor/advisor thinks this way? That is the only question we need answered in November. What, Who, Why, When....is not important. After all, according to Obama, his gramma is just like any other typical white person - racist. I think Obama is clear about what he believes and who should mentor/advise him and that is why he can no more denounce Wright, anymore than he can denounce his white gramma. Americans need to denouce Obama for sticking with his mentor/advisor as a way to let all racist pigs know that - the past is really over and we are interested in moving past the racial divide in this country. In real terms not just in rheteric designed to give Obama the presidency.

Questions? Let's Review the short list
5. William Ayers, and Obama have dinner frequently. Ayers bombed a site because "america was at war in vietnam". I suppose anti-war critics stick together. What favors will he ask President Hussein?
4. Tony Rezko, did Obama's a favor worth 625K. Rezko is a syrian who did business with S. Hussein's govt. in Iraq. I suppose Obama had good reasons to "oppose" the Iraq war. What favors will Rezko ask President Hussein?
3. Rev. Wright- the God "damn" america preacher. I suppose Obama's mentor/advisor, is not about american pride or unity, he's about putting the black community first. How will he influence Hussein's priorities at a federal level?
2. Oprah believes that Obama should be judged based on his entire life's experience. I suppose Obama's 20 year's life's experiece being mentored by Wright should be important to ALL americans in November, and it trumps Hillary's vote authorizing Bush to use force if necessary.
1. Michelle Obama, believes america is "so mean" and she finds it difficult to be proud of this nation unless of course we elect her husband who will fix ALL things that the white people have ruined over the centuries. I suppose Obama thinks Michelle will make a fine first lady, however, americans wonder how any woman with that perspective can represent this country in a positive light abroad. I suppose Obama's wife is his worst liability, because her comments can be viewed accurately in the light of Wright's thinking. No wonder, she lacks american pride.

When will Obama say God Bless America - never!

Hiding The Ball: Reparations, Too.
Why don't folks get it?

Wright stood for ***TWO*** things: black separatism (via Black Liberation Theology) and slavery reparations. There are two balls to watch in this game.

What do Wright/TUCC, Farrakhan/Nation of Islam, Shabazz/The New Black Panther Party, and John Conyers ALL have in common?

Black Liberation Theology *and* Reparations!

In April 2007, Conyers -- the House Judiciary Committee Chair -- noted that he was willing to wait to begin his big push for reparation until after Obama was elected to the Presidency. (See TheHill.com)

Considering that Conyers has been pushing hard for reparations since 1989, and finally had a bill (HR 40) introduced into the House in Jan. 2007, you've got to wonder why Conyers suddenly wants to get below the radar for reparations.

Does Conyers know something the rest of us doesn't?

(Note: Obama dodged the reparations question in the SC debate, and may have avoided the State of the Black Union for this reason too - to avoid waves).

Some estimate reparations will cost at least $10 TRILLION dollars (See NCORBA website).

With this in mind, it may be instructive to review Obama's speech, particularly where he raises black inequality and white responsibility/guilt.

In the course of muddying the waters on Black Liberation Theology and race relations, Obama clearly telegraphed his intent to implement reparations.

The Obamas lack discernment

Four years ago Obama’s church, Trinity United Church of Christ, offered on its website at least a dozen videos of Rev. Wright preaching. Unfortunately for those who wanted to get a true picture of Rev. Wright’s beliefs, these videos were removed from the Church’s website due to media scrutiny...but they were removed before Rev. Wright retired last month.

Barck and Michelle Obama should have left Rev. Wright’s church. Let me illustrate: After attending the same church for 20 years, I decided to find a new church for several reasons. One of the churches I visited in my search was a church I had gone to several times before. That day several years ago the pastor bandied about the word ”nazi” in similar fashion to the talk shows and weekly news magazines then. Having personally been told Holocaust survivor stories, I realized I needed to leave. I got up a few moments later and walked out, easily noticeable. I walked out because I knew this pastor was not fit to lead me spiritually. Later I realized God was causing me to find another church where God’s Word is preached. The Holy Spirit speaks to each of us differently, based in accordance to God’s Word, to tell us when we must not compromise. A minister is not really just ”one of the family.” He’s a spiritual leader with authority.

Barack and Michelle Obama should have walked out during Rev. Wright’s vitriolic race-dividing sermons. They should have shepherded their family away from Rev. Wright’s church and found a smaller African-American Bible church where the pastor was in one accord with the Lord and better understood the awesome power of forgiveness in Christ which his ancestors showed, a force so powerful that many decades later still touches the human heart.

What are the black churches like? Part 1

What are the African-American churches like? Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church is NOT typical of these churches. I’ve attended at least five African-American churches, as I recall, and they all showed the love of Christ, a strong love that drew this Caucasian in. I had been raised singing the old gospel songs and Negro spirituals that I often sang in their churches.

I joined one of the African-American churches after going there occasionally through the years. I had left my church of 20 years for several reasons and decided to seek membership at this well known black church. I really enjoyed both the older and the new pastors’ preaching, and then one month into my membership I couldn’t believe my ears as I heard the new younger pastor make a disparaging remark about Israel. I also heard him start preaching a social gospel with one sermon focusing on the Palestinians and poverty and defending the employment of former Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders. Fortunately, I had attended a smaller, less socially affluent African-American church a number of times and I recall the interim pastor there including in his sermon a delicate reference as to why a key member of government appointed by the president was rightly fired. He was referring to Jocelyn Elders as well. I decided to leave the more affluent church after there was pulpit approval of other actions as well that appeared to be violating God’s Word.

A year or two later, the members of that affluent African-American church ended up forcing the pastor to leave. But except for the one mocking sentence about Israel, even that pastor never came close to the vehement, vitriolic sermons and blasphemy rendered by Barack Obama’s pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. The Bible says, ”Be not deceived. God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man soweth, he shall reap.”

What are the black churches like? Part 2

One of the most moving services I’ve ever attended was in one of the oldest African-American churches in America located in Georgia. I called the church before traveling to that city to make sure I’d be there for a church service. I attended the weekly prayer meeting, the only white person among several dozen black people. A half dozen elders went to the front of the meeting room and sat in a semi-circle facing us. Some got on their knees to pray. I have never heard such an exhortation in prayer as I heard from one of the elders on his knees. When everyone looked up from prayer to hear testimonies, I sat there with my head bowed because tears were streaming down my face. I’m sure the folks there thought I must have been under the conviction of sin but I was already saved and living uprightly.

A young woman who was perhaps in her early 20’s stood up to give a praise. The woman had the humility of Christ as she talked of her struggles, and I continued to weep to experience the humility of such saints who were most likely the descendants of slaves in that city. I remember singing Jester Hairston’s song ”Amen” with them. I felt I was in heaven. Afterwards, one of the men asked me if I wanted to go on a tour of the church. I agreed. The sight I most clearly remember was the floor of the pulpit. The vibrantly varnished floor boards contained an occasional hole the size of a silver dollar. The gentleman explained they were breathing holes for runaway slaves laying down in the shallow crawl space under those floor boards as they began their route in the Underground Railroad. The experience was one of the high points of my life.

Standing Ovation
I find this whole situation hokey. It makes no sense to me that Obama says he stands for one thing and does the exact opposite.

I also felt the same sentiment that Charles spoke of on Fox News. Stating Senator Obama was self righteous and seemed to be in a celestial euphoria of some sort. claiming to still have the ability to unite and lead this country through it's racial disparities.

Rubbish.

Not one time has this man excepted the reponsibility he should be taking. He has brought to light grandma, Wright, racial disparities, and everything else, but himself. where does the Senator fit into this equation?

Senator Obama has also shown a reluctance to reject Wright completely. He still holds this raving racist as honorable. Has subjected his children to an antiquated environment that promotes hate, racism, and anti-american sentiment.

Even after weakly denouncing Wright, and not leaving the church make me believe believes what the church and Rev. Wright promote. 20 plus years is kind of hard to sit there and say I was unaware of what contraversial comments his pastor has made.

Like Charles asks, which ones?

Chickens don't run with donkeys

What are the black churches like? Part 3

When I was a child and for many years afterwards, whenever I saw a black person, I thought of Jesus because the word ”forgiveness” was paramount in my thoughts of them. Then I worked with African-Americans in various jobs and saw them less iconically but still through a filter of godliness. With more life experience, I’ve learned to better discern values but it’s hard to let go of that filter.

What a profound tragedy that Rev. Jeremiah Wright has an advanced degree in Negro spirituals and another in religions focusing on Islam and then quotes the beautiful words of those old Gospel songs after spewing such race-dividing, terrorist-justifying, anger-inducing, hate-inciting verbiage in the privileged pulpit in the church of God. His video clips remind me of the hate-inciting verbiage of the Friday prayers of many imams, after which riots and bloodshed have occurred in various cities throughout the world.

I am sure that the apologists and
the race baiters will be back today trying to defend the undefendable and also trying to further stir the pot. It is time to stop the endless recriminations and await the PA primary to see the results.

Sir -
If you believe that our government has not done things in a less than ethical way throughout our American History, you are quite naive.

Tody's health care system is, today, promoting unwellness.

It ebcourages false TV Commercial Advertising, to say the very least.

ASK your doctor about.....? This, alone, is outrageous!

Manipulation is usually subtle, but this contemporary campaign to reach all walks of life and work so very hard to lure, through means of repeated brainwashing them into believing that so many things are wrong with them??? This is extremely irresponsible on the part of the medical profession and extremely unethical.

A 'hypocritical' oath has replaced a doctor's solumn appeal to God to witness to the truth of the sacredness of a promise..health...prevention.

Healing is cotemorarily unknown to the medical profession.

This is BIG business.

Stop whining.

Interesting point on reparations and Conyers.

Jeremiah Wright's hatred of the white race is out there for everyone to see. Film clips, quotations.

Even the p.c. media no longer can ignore them.

Obama has had a close relationship with this demagogue for over 20 years.

I don't believe Obama can recover from this disastrous association with the fanatic minister.

Obama might win the Democrat nomination, but would be defeated easily in the general election, largely on account of the Wright affair.

I just don't see the majority of American voters being so stupid as to vote for a man who held such a close relationship with this psychotic hater of whites and of America itself.

Obama had 20 years to come to his senses.

It should have taken Obama 30 seconds into Wright's first diatribe to realize this.

He didn't.

Therefore, he must have been sympathetic to most of what Wright believed.

The Truth

At times most of us pick and choose why and when we speak out if ever. I have made comments in my life I regret. And I am sure I have not spoken out when I should. As far as his speech it was honest about the issues and Obama has run his campaign on issues.

I do not agree with Obama on many issues; immigration, pull out of Iraq with no real strategy, healthcare…….

Can we not keep this election about issues? I do realize it is difficult since McCain does not offer a lot.

Barack Obama
In his books, Barack Obama has told the story of the family into which he was born; about a father from Kenya whom he barely knew, who had been raised a Muslim but had become an atheist and who left when Barack was age 2, and about his secular humanist white American mother from Kansas who along with his father was a college student at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. By age 6, young Barack was already living in Jakarta with his mother and his Indonesian step father before moving back to Hawaii at age 10 to be raised by his maternal grandparents when his mother and her second husband divorced. His "birthright," says Senator Obama, was that he was given love, a good education, and hope.
Barack Obama was raised in a secular humanist environment by his mother and grandparents. Having grown up essentially without a father, he graduated from Columbia University in 1983 and while in his mid twenties began working as a community organizer on the south side of Chicago. It was then that he began attending Trinity United Church of Christ and when he met the Pastor of the church, Rev. Wright, who became influential in his life. As a result Barack Obama became a Christian believer. Barack Obama never had the benefit of a relationship with a father, but Rev. Wright who was 20 years older than Barack Obama and was instrumental in Obama’s conversion from secular humanism to Christianity became his adopted “uncle”. That is the reason why although Barack Obama very strongly disagrees with Rev. Wright’s incendiary rhetoric and has repeatedly denounced it, he finds it impossible to disown his adopted “uncle”, Rev. Wright, anymore that he could disown his white grandmother for racial stereotyping, a woman who helped raise him and with whom he has shared deep reciprocal love.

Got Issues?
John K: "Can we not keep this election about issues? I do realize it is difficult since McCain does not offer a lot."
--------------------
OF COURSE, we can't make this election about issues! How naive can you get? The American people are for the most part uncommonly stupid, as evidenced by the Bu$hBot droolers here.

They believe their government without questioning, despite the conclusive evidence that we should not. If Bush says the war is going well, it is going well, despite the fact that it most certainly is not. You can't talk sense to a man who underwent a frontal lobotomy at his church.

Have YOU ever been on the wrong side of serious injustice? Have that experience and then, get back to me. I can understand the man's anger, and have no problem with his saying "GOD&DAMN AMERICA!"

I don't say the Pledge any more.

Obamas speech
That speech was the greatest speech ever made by a Muslim incognito. The hatred spewed in that church sounds like Muslim rhetoric. Obamas father was a Muslim, his grandfather was a Muslim and his formative years, Obama studied at a madressa. He will not wage war on Muslims in the war we are in now. The media should have brought all this out last year, and Barak would not have been here now. Barak wasted alot of money on hope. He will never get elected.

You lack it, too
