Will Sarah Palin make a run at the GOP Nomination in 2012?

WASHINGTON -- There are three relevant questions concerning the Armenian genocide.

(a) Did it happen?

(b) Should the U.S. House of Representatives be expressing itself on this now?

(c) Was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's determination to bring this to a vote, knowing that it risked provoking Turkey into withdrawing crucial assistance to American soldiers in Iraq, a conscious (columnist Thomas Sowell) or unconscious (blogger Mickey Kaus) attempt to sabotage the U.S. war effort?

The answers are:

(a) Yes, unequivocally.

(b) No, unequivocally.

(c) God only knows.

That between 1 million and 1.5 million Armenians were brutally and systematically massacred starting in 1915 in a deliberate genocidal campaign is a matter of simple historical record. If you really want to deepen and broaden awareness of that historical record, you should support the establishment of the Armenian Genocide Museum and Memorial in Washington, D.C. But to pass a declarative resolution in the House of Representatives in the middle of a war in which we are inordinately dependent on Turkey is the height of irresponsibility.

The atrocities happened 90 years ago. Not a single living Turk under the age of 102 is in any way culpable. Even Mesrob Mutafyan, patriarch of the Armenian community in Turkey, has stated that his community is opposed to the resolution, correctly calling it the result of domestic American politics.

Turkey is already massing troops near the Iraq border, threatening a campaign against Kurdish rebels that could destabilize the one stable front in Iraq. The same House of Representatives that has been complaining loudly about the lack of armored vehicles for our troops is blithely jeopardizing relations with the country through which 95 percent of the new heavily armored vehicles are now transiting on the way to saving American lives in Iraq. Bob_C asks....
..."Somebody, ANYBODY, explain to me how, in a country with nearly 300 million people, we end up with the likes of George Bush as President, Nancy Pilosi as Speaker, Harry "The war is lost" Reid as Senate Majority Leader, and a host of other dimwits from John McCain to "Splash" Kennedy working incessantly to destroy what made this country great."

George W. Bush is out in a few months, never to be President again. So, he is not the answer to your question.

The REAL answer is the fact that egotistical tin pot Napoleons (some named above) are allowed to take advantage of the gullability of voters by running for office tiome and time and time again. If two terms are good for the President, it should be good for Senators and Representatives, as well.

IMHO at least 90 of the 100 Senators should wear a permanent sign ohn their foreheads displaying their "best-before" date.

So, to answer Bob_C: lack of term limits.

When you buy tires for your car, unless you are cheap and uninformed, you don't buy retreads. Why do most people buy Congressional retreads??

replies to Rick Strongo and terry
to Rick Strongo: I don't know if I'm on your list of lefties who post, but I think Pelosi is incapable of thinking this issue out in any rational way. Who is she blaming for the Armenian genoicide anyway? The current Turkish government? No, they didn't do it. The Turkish people? Well, yes, they did, but none of the perpetrators are alive now, so is Pelosi blaming their descendants? That's really idiotic. As for the effect of the resolution on Turky's support for the US, yes, I think Pelosi is hoping Turkish reaction will undermine the war effort. I just wish she had the stones to say so.

Now as for terry: I salute you, terry, because you're the first Jew-hater to come out on this subject, in response to this column. I know you Jew-hating conservatives are out there, filled with your usual ignorance and crudeness. I expect nothing less, and I know that people like you speak for lots of conservativs who have been cowed by liberal PC pressure and won't really speak their minds. I can always count on Jew-haters to express themselves with all the clarity and eloquence your post exhibits. I'd tell you to go back to Nazi Germany, but we whipped them already, so I'm not sure where you can go. I do know you'll always find a home among American conservatives.
