Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"You think we brought thousands to Jena. You wait 'til we go to D.C. and bring the whole country, because there's Jenas all over America. There's Jenas in New York. There's Jenas in Atlanta. There's Jenas in Florida. There's Jenas all over Texas." -- Rev. Al Sharpton, speaking in Jena, Louisiana, September 20, 2007

Times had been tough for a while for Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and other self-proclaimed civil-rights spokesmen. Their attempt to sway public opinion in the hopes of railroading into prison three white Duke University lacrosse players on phony rape charges backfired badly this spring. In this context, the unfolding crisis in Jena, Louisiana that began at the start of the 2006-07 school year has been a godsend, a renewed opportunity to put the "real" America on trial.

It's hard to say which is more depressing: the vicious, unprovoked stomping on December 4, 2006 by six (or more) Jena High School black students of an innocent fellow white student, Justin Barker, or the subsequent outpouring of nationwide sympathy among blacks for the alleged assailants. The charge of attempted second-degree murder against each of the six defendants subsequently was reduced to aggravated second-degree battery at an arraignment for five of them.

To supporters, the defendants, known collectively as the "Jena Six," merely had overreacted to a continuing legacy of white racism. Whatever wrongs they had committed pale in comparison to another wrong committed a few months earlier: the hanging of empty nooses from a shade tree on school grounds. Apparently, a six-on-one assault, euphemistically known as "a fight," wasn't the injustice; prosecuting the assailants while declining to prosecute the noose-hangers was.

The rage rose and eventually crested, for the time being, this past September 20, when an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 people descended by bus upon Jena, population 3,000, to demand that the prosecution drop all charges against the attackers. A parade of speakers, including New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Martin Luther King III, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, gave the people what they came to hear -- an indictment of American justice.

Remember, signs at the rally read "Free the Jena 6," not "Reduce the Charges against the Jena 6." The demonstrators really believed the assailants were innocent. For them, the three white kids (Justin Barker, for the record, was not among them) who admitted to hanging the noose, ultimately receiving an in-school suspension rather than an expulsion, were the real criminals.

The buses long have left town. But the indignation that fueled the event burns as intensely as ever. On October 1, student activists staged walkouts at more than 100 schools around the country in support of the "Jena 6." Organizers in particular offered praise for 17-year-old Mychal Bell, the only defendant thus far convicted. Having spent nearly 10 months in jail, Bell was released in late September on $45,000 bail (he'd wrongly been tried as an adult, concluded a state judge), and is now back behind prison bars for violating probation for a separate prior offense. Bell "could have been my brother," said Amira Rahim, who helped organize the walkout at the University of Pittsburgh.

Such is the mentality at far higher levels. At an emotionally-charged October 16 hearing, members of the House Judiciary Committee grilled Donald Washington, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana. The push for racial solidarity was in the air. Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee, D-Tex., demanded, "I want you to tell me why you, the first black [Western District of Louisiana] U.S. district attorney, did not do more, and I want to know what you're doing to get Mychal Bell out of jail." Washington lamely responded: "I did intervene. I will tell you that just like you were offended, I was offended."

Perhaps the most egregious flight from reality occurred at Black Entertainment Television's Hip Hop Awards show, held Saturday night, October 13, and broadcast the following Wednesday. Two of the Jena 6 defendants, Carwin Jones and Bryant Purvis, had been selected to present the award for Video of the Year. The pair received a standing ovation as they walked on stage at the Atlanta Civic Center. Purvis, the only defendant thus far not yet arraigned, declared that the September 20 Jena march proved "our generation can unite and rally around a cause." He then handed Kanye West the award for his hit single, "Stronger"; West shook hands with both teens.

How does one rationalize bringing Jones and Purvis aboard? The show's host, comedian Katt Williams, put it this way: "By no means are we condoning a six-on-one beat-down.... But the injustice perpetrated on these young men is straight criminal." This was a case, he added, of "systematic racism."

Such comments are very much in line with a plethora of do-it-yourself videos recently posted on YouTube. Though the presentations vary by length and production quality, their guiding assumption is invariably the same: The six black defendants are not thugs, but victims of white racist America. Footage of the September 20 march and rally is especially prominent. One video, a real tear-jerker, has Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" playing over a photomontage of the day's events -- talk about sacrilege!

We at the National Legal and Policy Center (www.nlpc.org), a Falls Church, Va.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting public accountability, decided to fight fire with fire. If YouTube has become a forum for distorting the record, we thought, it also can be a forum for setting it straight. And so NLPC President Peter Flaherty and I, with some outside production help, earlier this month recorded a roughly 20-minute video, broken into two parts, to counteract common misconceptions about Jena. The presentation, titled, "Sharpton & Jackson: Wrong about Jena," is up on YouTube.

We've made every effort to summarize events and put them into context. What's more, we identified not only the race-hustlers, but some of their major corporate enablers.

Building publicity for a nationwide political campaign costs money. The organizers of the "Jena 6" agitprop know that without outside support, events such as the September 20 rally might not have come off. But they're savvy. Over the years they've cultivated close working relations with executives of many major corporations. Jesse Jackson in particular has secured generous funding for his organizations from Anheuser-Busch, Bank of America, Boeing, Toyota and other companies. And Al Sharpton for a number of years has served in a compensated position on PepsiCo's African-American advisory board. Wal-Mart CEO H. Lee Scott, for his part, has praised Sharpton as a "dynamic leader."

We can expect Black Entertainment Television to bankroll a celebration of Jena's black defendants. The Washington, D.C.-based cable network, after all, was founded back in 1980 as an explicit expression of black identity -- though, one might add, with the crucial help of $500,000 in venture capital from cable mogul John Malone, who is white. But officials of McDonald's, Anheuser-Busch and other companies whose product lines are not inherently connected to racial identity should be more circumspect. They might not be directly aiding the Jena publicity machine, but their donations have helped make it possible all the same. Let the race-hustlers dig into their own pockets to fund their deluded campaign.

change your perception
Every time you see or hear the word diversity, depending on context, change it to 'occupation' or 'subversive invasion'. Hence 'Director of diversity studies' becomes 'Director of the occupation' and "We need more diversity" becomes " we need more subversive invasion". Try it a few times, it will help you see through the veil.

Full of descriptive hyperbole!
Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and the like are full of descriptive hyperbole! Enough said!!!!

RaJ is my savior!
I couldn't have said it better myself! I've felt that way for years.

RAJ is my savior!

Cassandra Vox can't be serious...
Girl, you are an idiot.

jena 6
trash is trash white or black, the color of a mans skin does not give him the right to act a fool because of some perceived injustice that happened several generations ago, if the us is so bad to black people, leave and go somewhere else,by the way take jessee jackson and al sharpton with you

JamesJ,
that's funny right there.

Halloween
Halloween is a liberal's favorite holiday. They get to dress up as someone they're not and go door to door looking for a handout

Torry sorry
cant type or spell result of a public education! :-)

Toro yeah I got it but
no I didnt take it personally, rarely do on a blog, face to face could be a different story. I was simply pointing out that for you position to manifest itself all the cause and effect for disharmony would have to be eliminates.
Hold hands and say peace, love. Not sarcastic just trying to make my point.
Sharpten and company are aggitators they creat disharmoney.

Cassandra
You're pathetic! and part of the problem.

Hagar
Did you comprehend my comments?
Sounds to me like you took it personal.

With all the problems...
..in black communities such as irresponsible birthing, rampant crime, openly corrupt government officials, drugs, gangs, the destruction of the black family, and a near wholesale rejection of education, there are apparently more important things to address.

Inventing grievances and demanding new pc laws that they don't remotely intend to obey are top priorities among a majority blacks, it seems. Then comes fueling the entitlement/handout/preference train by supporting leftist candidates.

How anyone can take seriously the black protests in Jena is absolutely beyond me, and listening to the likes of a Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton is beyond all reason. What am I missing, here?

I'm waiting for the record or book
deal that will probably be offered to the Jena 6. There are countless examples of black criminals whose automatic indoctrination into the Victim's Hall of Fame make it big based on their thuggery. Thuggery is not only a right, it's the way to get rich.

BET SUCKS!
Loving the idea that BET is the worst, most degrading station on TV for allowing Jena 6 "thugs" to appear and present awards. Good point...Perhaps. However, interestingly, BET hasn't been run by Blacks since like 2001.

renny
"The US functions miraculously well daily with little note by anyone. The Sharptons and Jacksons are living in another era and trying to keep a racial animus alive and well [for their own profit.]"

That's a great summation of the situation, except for the fairly sizable number of black bigots created or enabled by this gang of con men.

I have seen instances where a black person will shout "Jena Six!" as some kind of shibboleth, to punctuate a statement that otherwise has nothing whatsoever to do with race. It usually happens when the shouter is wrong on the facts of what's actually being discussed.

For those of us who came of age in the fifties and sixties, and were--deliberately or otherwise--part of the desegregation process, the steady rise in black bigotry is disturbing. Unfortunately, there are too many whites who are all too ready to respond in kind.

Not really
Photo-op Jesse and Twaddle-Brawley Al were always thugs, even from before they enrolled in divinity. So, not a "new right" as far as these two are concerned.

Toro no offense
But your post sounds like "Why can’t we just get along". The average person isn’t responsible for the division. Most are too busy with their own problems to be creating havoc. There are some people however that make their living exacerbating racial problems. They hide behind diversity so they can create a new tower of Babel with them as "leaders" of their particular flock. I agree we are the human race but historically speaking, we have never acted as one. Here we are in a country that allows differences with little intolerance and we have people trying to create hatred. Treat all people the same regardless of race and eventually you goal would be reached. But when we are suppose to treat various group with "special" efforts to help make them equal what do you think that causes? Resentment by those who are not in a special group. Why people can’t see this is beyond me!

One shouldn't blame the leaders
of the black community just like one shouldn't blame our political leaders in general.

It is ourselves we should be looking at no matter what color the skin is. We are all imprisoned by ignorance, selfishness and lack of courage to make the changes that will bring about the truth and end this madness.

How long will we continue to use the word "race" out of context?

HELLO!!!!! We only have ONE race on this island in space. The HUMAN RACE! Everything else is BS!

Guess what, the so-called leaders have figured this out long ago, and continue to use our stupidity against ALL of us, because WE let them!

We allow the lies and we allow the corruption to continue and pass the the same attitudes to our children.

What else can we expect?

Real US
At a chess match in Cherry Hill last month I took a picture that really represents America:

A black man who is a chess master played my Chinese-American (he still speaks Chinese) student while another black chess player looked on one side while another of my team's members, a young man born in India, looks over Chang's board.

No one shouted racial epithets.

No one marched.

The US functions miraculously well daily with little note by anyone. The Sharptons and Jacksons are living in another era and trying to keep a racial animus alive and well in order to keep these "leaders" in money and publicity.

A Seriously Delusional Cartoon.
Black's wonder why all other races look at them like a cartoon. You can not really expect anyone to take any race that openly support's injustice, and then bring out all these fat troll's to march in support of criminal activity. We all saw the klan like tatic's of the neo-black panther's in the duke rape case while not holding person's of your own race accountable. Every black person might as well be walking around with an O.J Simpson mask on and be seen as you really are. A bunch of pathetic losers. Cartoonish is the only way to describe it. With th NAACP, black caucus, neo-black panthers, blacks with badges, rainbow push, Al and Jesse Your race is a joke and you will remain a minstrel show until you are dragged into reality of society. But since you , as a race refuse, we will all sit and watch you destroy yourselves and like terrell say's, get the popcorn ready. Shame on all the so called leader's in the black community, This fake allegence with other minority group's is also a joke. You are nothing like the latino culture or asian or ay other group, except mabey Devil worshippers. Yeah, Charles Manson and O.J. could be your choice for Pres./V.P.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said
"I have a dream that the day will come when my children are judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

That day has long since arrived, but only for those who have the character to embrace it.

The others know who they are. And, I would venture, so do we.

Keeping them down
Jackson, Sharpton, the left et al have to keep race an issue. 90% of blacks year after year vote democrat. Its all about maintaining a power base. If the black voter ever wised up they be out on the street with nowhere to go. Just as the republicans have ignored their conservative base (at their peril) the democrats have the black vote in their pocket.
When Sharpton and Jackson get involved first thought should be "Is this a setup? Is it real? Its a sad day that the white majority, racked with guilt? can be scammed time and time again by these hucksters. This is the road that all this PC crap leads to.

Here in Kanukistan
We had a shootout in the Entertainment District in which the cops picked up more than 40 bullets during their investigation.

Because it was a shootout beetween Black gang members, of the more than 100 people in the area at the time, not a single one saw or heard anything.

The kicking and screaming in the neighbourhood is not against the gangland shootout -- it is against the security cameras that may have caught the whole thing. Security cameras, you see, are An Invasion Of Privacy.

Black thugs firing hails of bullets at one another -- well, that is Exercising Racial Solidarity or something ...

Can't Kill Whitey
If they kill whitey who is going to pay taxes for all the giveaway programs?

BTW, where are Jackson and Sharpton when all the young kids are getting killed here in Chicago by stray gang bullets

Seems that
this race baiting is really organized now. Many in academe are being trained, or apprenticed if you will, in this type of baiting. Following such an apprenticeship, some are even hired by organizations like Rainbow Push where they can become "journeymen" baiters. But, we have come to recognize that Al and Jesse are really true Master Baiters. Their lust for self-gratification at the expense of an entire community is the evidence.

BrianR
No trolls yet. Well, its still early. Or maybe they are just pondering the best way to defend a six to one stomping.

All White People Should Be Killed
It is obvious the white race is the greatest evil to be seen on this earth. What I do not understand is that given that the left knows that white people are evil and that most leftists are in fact white people how can they justify continued existence? Taking their own lives would be the greatest step toward social justice that one can imagine.

White people should get out of the way and let the oppressed masses assume the positions in society that they would have were it not for the actions of a racist majority.

To the tune of Randy Newman's 'Short People'

'White People got no reason'

New challenge for the songwriters.

Racism won't end
until even the memories of the likes of Jackson and Sharpton are dead and buried.

Followup to the Holloween Hate Crime
For those of you who are unaware of the terrible events on Halloween Night 2006 here is a link:
http://us.altermedia.info/news-of-interest-to-white-people/ the-long-beach-halloween-hate-crime_2168.html

The group that went after the girls had about 30 black kids in it. The girl who was beaten with the skateboard had over a dozen facial fractures and had to go through reconstructive surgery.

The white girls were there just to go through a haunted house in the neighborhood, and snubbed a black guy who crudely hit on them.

Where are the Jena marchers coming to aid of these girls?

The truth is, these professional victims really don't care about justice, they only care about scoring a point for their side, and prepetuating racial tensions.

Tomorrow Night is Halloween
and the house down the street is all decked out as a grave yard. It is very cute and mildly goulish.

I wonder what the professional victims in Jena Lousy-Ana would think if they saw all the nooses hanging from the trees with "spooks" suspended? Fortunately the "spooks" are all green and white!

Of course, when someone hung a noose from a tree in Jena, no one was hurt. but when a gang of thugs beat up a white guy just because they hated white people, someone did get hurt.

Out here in Long Beach, California, just South West of Los Angeles, two white girls were beaten almost to death last Halloween by a pack of thuggish black kids who shouted racial slurs at them. One guy used his skate board to almost crush a girl's skull, and she remained in the hospital for many months.

And what sentance did the assailants get?

Probation.

When are the white people going to start marching in the streets over all these hate crimes and hate speech against white people?

I am really fed up with the victimizers acting like victims.

Absolutely, Vic
True prophecy, no crystal ball needed.

Methinks this place will be a waste of time for any semblance of reasoned discourse.

Let the screaming begin!

OJ was framed!
This column will fill up with the race baitors all screaming about racism.

Except these slaves
demand their handouts, they don't ask.

oldsocialworker....

Brilliant! One could take all the millions spent on ghettos in the last 40 years... And they could not match your truthful words.

"Racism" is a lucrative business
It keeps the victim mentality turd stirred and the plantation full of voters; most of whom want a big government answer to the tragic results of personal decisions. It is that simple.

identity politics
Just file this along with the countless other examples where identity politics trump reason or the facts. The emotional truth is what matters!! Any way to expose the inherent injustice and racism in the oppressive patriarchal society known as Amerikkka!!! Without being a part of the white power structure, you can only be a victim of the man!!!!

And we all know that Sharpton and Jackson have never let the facts get in the way of good publicity...

Jena 6 facts
I watched part of the video that was posted on YouTube, Sharpton and Jackson are wrong. However, I believe your argument would have been much stronger had you read this article, ironically posted on townhall.com. http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/1024/p09s01-coop.html
My biggest complaint with all of the debate on this issue has been the misrepresentation of the facts. Knowing the truth makes Jackson's and Sharpton's arguments all the more maddening and irresponsible. BET should be ashamed for bringing members of the Jena 6 on the air. Of course, since when did we start expecting BET to do anything responsible?
