Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

April 15 might become the biggest tax-and-spend protest since the Boston Tea Party of 1773. Politicians fear spontaneous citizen outrage. That's because when the public realizes they have been scammed, bamboozled, defrauded and hustled by politicians who take and then misspend their money -- mostly to enhance their own power -- they'll run like scalded dogs.

Unlike in the 1958 cult movie "The Blob," which featured a creature from outer space that consumed everything to which it attached itself, government is a homegrown monster, consuming ever-increasing amounts of capital. And this government blob doesn't discriminate. It grows no matter which party is in charge. While the deficit last week raced past $1 trillion, the federal government and many state governments are trying to pry more of our money from us so they can finish creating a dependency culture from which we'll never escape.

Governments never have enough of our money and they'll never ask if we have enough. Whatever they do is sold as noble, even righteous and if the people rebel, they are uncaring and greedy. The cry at these tea parties should be "not a penny more" until governments get their houses in order, just as we must do. Most people have been forced to reduce spending during the recession, but not the federal government, and likely not the government in your home state.

Take New York (puh-leeze). The state legislature has approved a $131 billion budget, which represents a 9 percent increase in spending over last year. There are stories that Rush Limbaugh and Donald Trump have threatened to abandon New York over higher taxes.

A New York Observer editorial asked the right question: "...why did legislators refuse to deal with the need to control their own spending -- the real source of the state's fiscal problems -- and instead increase it, blowing millions in public funds on pork barrel programs like 'Urban Yoga,' gun clubs and other member-driven spending items?"

California is a close second to New York's high tax rate, having just raised its top income tax rate to 10.55 percent. This means that with the Obama administration's plan to increase federal taxes, successful residents of New York and California will be paying more than half of their incomes -- when payroll, sales and other forms of taxes are included -- to governments. When is enough, enough? Now!

To further increase your outrage, read the "2009 Pig Book" from Citizens Against Government Waste, www.cagw.org, which is released today. Like its previous editions, the latest "Pig Book" chronicles some of the most outrageous examples of wasteful government spending.

It wouldn't take much to get the attention of politicians. If the current level of outrage can be maintained after the tea parties, individuals will have two choices. They can reduce the amount of taxes they pay government, thereby sending the message that if we have to cut back then so should government. (Government can't put everyone in jail. The tax system has worked only because of a docile and compliant citizenry.) The other choice is for the successful to either defer income until a tax-cutting administration succeeds this one, or deliberately limit their incomes to no more than $250,000 a year, depriving government of the new income sources it needs to maintain its obscene size.

On March 28, 2007, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) commented on the Bush administration's proposed fiscal 2008 budget: "The gross federal debt is now almost $9 trillion, or more than $29,000 per person. That is how much every man, woman and child in America owes to this debt. This is the fiscal mess that we have to clean up." The debt and the per-person cost are now far greater. Do we hear a peep from Rep. Maloney or the many other Democrats who were critical of the Bush deficits? Nope.

It's time Maloney, the rest of Congress and state legislators hear from the people. Not a penny more until you put your house in order!

Cloward-Piven Strategy
http://www.worldviewradio.com/episode.php?EpisodeID=10958

Barack Obama is Destroying Our Economy on Purpose. Description: A pair of radical Columbia University professors by the name of Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven wrote an article in the radical magazine known as The Nation. The article was published on May 2, 1966 and laid out what is now known as the "Cloward-Piven Strategy". The plan calls for the destruction of capitalism in America by swelling the welfare rolls to the point of collapsing our economy and then implementing socialism by nationalizing many private institutions.

They dont care!
I have come to realize that just throwing politicians out at each election cycle has gotten us nowhere, they are only replaced with more of the same kind of scum.

It is going to take some seriously drastic measures to get the attention of the FOOLS in govt, they have no FEAR of us.

The American politician knows that most Americans will not rise up and take back their govt, due to being so busy with, family, friends, career, and being civil in nature and our approach to govt.

They understand that we will call, fax, write letters, send emails, etc., and they will continue to hang up the phone on us, trash the correspondence and carry on with business-as-usual.

Politicians are like unruly kids a parent has allowed to get away with bad behavior for too long. They will ignore all warnings, test you to the limit, get on your last nerve, until you the parent has had it with the little crumb-cruncher. It is at this point you have to get up and put the SMACKDOWN on the little linoleum lizard(s) to remind him/her of just who is in charge.

Politicians are long over due for a good SMACKDOWN from the people they work for....

We do not exist for the benefit of govt or those in office, they exist for our benefit.

W-4 Tax Protest
We can all increase our deductions by filing new w-4 forms increasing our deductions. I've changed my deductions from zero to five.

My next check should be higher and the gov(s) (state, fed) will be getting less. I'll put the difference in savings for tax time. Lets see if I can hang on to it then.

We can all increase our deductions and starts choking the beast. Just be sure and set it aside for 4/15/2010.

Brilliant nametabs
From your lips to all of America's ears.... that would be a singular effective message, a quiet but unmistakable rebellion against the greed of our so-called representatives.

Slaughter
Politicians are leading the people to slaughter. And the people like "LEMMINGS" are just following because the majority of the people do not have a clue, as to whats going on. These "clueless" people come from all walks of life ---- and unless the money flow to bureaucrats & politicians is considerable reduced ---- these clueless people will remain clueless. Because the politicians and bureaucrats are buying the people with patronage and pork barrel jobs.

In my mind people like Buffet, Martha Stewart, Trump, and other oligarchs who support the politicians are guilty of treason.

Slaughter (contd)
I forgot Oprah Winfrey and the Hollywood "nuts"; they also have committed treason by promoting "self serving" politicians.

I like your posts, they are impassioned and intelligent. Please change one thing that keeps making me break out in sophomoric laughing. Criminals are "hanged" while horses are "hung". Irish guys, too. Have a great day.

Tea Parties
are a good idea. A better idea is for all taxpaying Americans to simply not pay their taxes. Let the gov't try to deal with a couple hundred million people who refuse to subsidize it.

Boston Massacre, Ruby Ridge, or Waco?

Why do mention the Boston Massacre in the same breath as Waco and Ruby Ridge?

Just curious.

During the Eisenhower Administration
During the Eisenhower Administration, the top marginal income tax rate was an amazing 90%. There were loopholes, but those involved sheltering your money into overseas tax havens or municipal bonds or other non-productive endeavors which did nothing to enhance the productivity and wealth of the United States.

How come there were no "tea parties" back then?

Right now, the U.S. is in an economic crisis. The economy has contracted sharply. The only way to get out of that is by Government action.

Once the economy is booming again, no more economic stimulus packages will be needed, and the extra tax revenues from a humming economy will help pay off the debt.

As a percentage of GDP, the debt from World War II was the largest in U.S. history. But we started paying it down right after World War II, as our economy boomed.

So what is all this "tea party" hysteria about? What EXACTLY is it that you fear will happen?

SteveL
Learn from history (or be doomed to repeat it). There was a problem in 1929, govenment "help" magnified it into the great depression. Government interferince, regulating to favor their cronies, is the cause of the problem , the problem, and will not be the solution.

What we fear is taking a debt that is now 30K each and making it 100K or more each. Leading to hyperinflation (again see history).

19 Dependents
19, or fewer, dependents on your W-4 is not reported to the IRS by Employers ( unless they are in bed with the IRS for some reason - ie corp. tax problems ).

If you really want to change in the attitude of the U.S. government - quit feeding it with your money. At that point the Feds will either get the hint or they will over-react and show their real colors.

If you are going to be abused regardless - why would you fail to protest that abuse, in whatever manner is available. That is the reality Americans face today. Roll over and cower in submission; or stand up and force a change. What is Freedom & Liberty worth to you; Freedom & Liberty for your children and grandchildren??? Got cojones??? Act like it. It is your money, by the way.

the difference between Congress and the Somali Pirates? The Somali Pirates are honest thieves.

wishful thinking
Whadaya think are the odds?

Does It Have Legs?
This effort will succeed if it has legs, it will not succeed if it does not have legs. Someone has to figure out a way to keep the movement going, after April 15th, if this thing is going to have an impact, it seems to me.

SteveL
The federal government has not had a balanced budget for the LAST 50 years. Both parties have spent more than the taxes collected non-stop and Obama is promising to quadruple the annual deficit under the irresponsible Bush.

If the USSC throws out DOMA,

all of these issues are moot, to paraphrase Abaham Lincoln, a nation cannot survive with with half sanctioning same-sex sodomy and half opposing same-sex sodomy.

Hopefully, this civil war will not be violent.

Joel-De Oppresso Liber
You wrote "Both are clear cut examples of a govt murdering its own subjects/citizens."

Both implies two. Are you saying all three events are equivalent?

Thanks

Joel-De Oppresso Liber
Do you equate the Boston Tea Party, Ruby Ridge and Waco as equivalent acts?

Please elaborate.

To Joel-de-O
You sound like a colleague of JD's Handsome Son, who has been posting for months that all Democrats should be killed (and he provides details). Or like Peppermint, who (linked to townhall) runs a serialized novella ("Juliet Smith's Diary") of which the ongoing plotline is the murder of "Socialists" by "Patriots" who shoot their political opponents in the head and feed their bodies to dogs, all in the interest of patriotism.

Are you old enough to remember when Fidel Castro took over Cuba? He lined his political enemies up and had them shot. Sounds like that's about what you have in mind. Meanwhile, you folks love to post long loving sensual descriptions of your many guns and tell us how much you adore shooting. Now, Joel-de-O, you suggest trials for "treason", sentencing to be provided by you and your pals. (During Bush II Term I, Sean Hannity repeatedly said that those criticizing President Bush should be arrested for sedition.) Do you wonder that this country equates your movement with extremism and with danger to the civil order?

Yeah, Cal
I've had it. I'd prefer a Constitutional Amendment like the flat/fair tax, limiting income tax to 10% and sales tax to 4-5%, and state amendments limiting state income tax to 4-5%. It's time Gov't is limited in the amount of money it can take from us--not based on their "kindness" toward us but by our mandate. Next is to somehow make Social Security and MediCare voluntary and self-supporting/solvent.

I smelled this some time ago ......
I smelled a rebellion almost 2 years ago. Only lightly, but the smell has gotten worse recently - and soon will be too much for most of us to stand! Rebellion is in sight now; almost certain! And if our government does not wise up, I predict a Revolution. I do not want a Revolution, but .....!

Tea Party - What's

Nicely done. Unlike Congress, the Somali pirates don't steal your money and simultaneously try to convince you that they are doing you a favor.

David Koresh was arrested and charged with "alleged child molestation" and was exonerated in a Texas courtroom, prior to the murders of all those same children, by a loving Federal government. The court records are public domain.

Lilly - Do you remember when it was the Democrats that financed & supported the KKK and advocated any form of violence required, to stop the Civil Rights movement. Do you remember MLK was a Republican.

History doesn't play favorites, when the truth is invoked. Given the opportunity, there are as many Democrats & Liberals as there are Republicans & Right-wingers that would cheerfully use whatever weapons/violence that came to hand to inflict their own particular brand of "Political Truth & Reality" on everyone else.

The U.S. Constitution is the only arbiter of "Political Truth" that is relevant here. There is an ever growing multitude of folks, that have no other goal but to see the U.S. Constitution restored to it's Lawfull place in Government. Could that become messy in execution?? Hopefully not; but that goal must be effected if America is remain the United States of America and not the Socialist States of America.

debt
1.3 trillion since the first of 2009, keep that money rolling.

Not a Penny More!
Taxation leads to slavery BUT all who renounce being taxed (as I do) must be ready to take on the responsibility to chart one's destiny that includes providing for one's family with all the necessities of life, including health care, food, shelter, education, and security (both physical and financial). Unfortunately, 98% of people don't have the fortitude to face up to that challenge.
Certainly we must get rid of this bloated, useless, and even harmful government bureaucracy but we must be realistic that we will have to take up the slack in our lives to compensate for the nanny state’s dole provided in an insanely inefficient, wasteful, and humiliating manner. The answer lies in an extra lean government that focuses on delivery of optimal services versus the one we have now that just wants to control all aspects of citizens’ lives with mediocre services (if any).

Trillions of future tax dollars have already been wasted or are being planned WITHOUT required debate and public input, therefore it's taxation without representation, all in the name of "crisis" that was instigated by the same politicos to begin with. And citizens are just sitting by the wayside like bums on a log and picking their noses instead of vigorously responding to this Constitutional assault on our liberties. Nice one America! You get exactly what you deserve.

Not one penny more
Cal, spot on. Untill whole dept. are cut in DC nothing will be in order.
O in AZ. Also spot on, but please don't be jaded. If we don't fight back, no one will. Go to a tea party, vote, take back the rep. party.

Why Supplanting the Dollar Would Be Good for America
By Justin Fox Thursday, Apr. 09, 2009

No More Taxes
The people of this 'great' (not 'arrogant') country don't realize what power they have in the VOTE. Politicians of every stripe cringe before the voters power. Even those american catholics are more afraid of the voter than they are of God. Let's show them what the american voter can accomplish, when we put our mind to it.
God Bless America! Shout it to the skies and let the other countries that would like to see us humiliated know what we think of them.

Voting for tax raises
Joel, your "50.1 %" analysis fails on two counts.

1) Many or most people will choose to earn more if possible, even if it mean they have to pay some tax on the additional income;
2) Lowering taxes on the 49.9 will STILL stimulate the economy (and raise government revenues), thereby putting more people into higher tax brackets (e.g., higher than 0%).

There is, however, also the nasty little detail that deliberately punitive tax rates gets you less of what you punish, which is fewer paying citizens. Even for a socialist government, that doesn't work.
