Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

After weeks of "talking down" the economy and concern among some of his supporters that his sobering prognosis for the nation's recovery might be affecting America's natural optimism, President Obama delivered a speech to Congress on Tuesday, parts of which sounded as if they could have been written by a Republican.

"We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before," said the president to applause from members of both parties.

There were a number of contrasts, even contradictions, in Obama's address. The president claims he will halve the deficit, while substantially adding to it. He will improve schools, but opposes the voucher program. He will begin pulling most U.S. combat troops out of Iraq, but send 17,000 more to Afghanistan. He will "eliminate wasteful and ineffective programs," most of which were initiated by Congress and have constituencies who will be angry when these programs are cut.

In perhaps the biggest contrast of all -- bordering on subterfuge -- the president claimed the budget he presents to Congress this week is "free of earmarks." Well, if earmarks are absent from the budget, they are abundant in the $410 billion omnibus package that will be voted on separately, a bill that contains an estimated 9,000 earmarks. These include, as noted by Louisiana Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, who gave the GOP response to Obama's address, "$300 million to buy new cars for the government, $8 billion for high-speed rail projects, such as a 'magnetic levitation' line from Las Vegas to Disneyland, and $140 million for something called volcano monitoring." And according to Tom Jones, a staffer of Sen. Jim DeMint's who is going over the bill line by line and posting his pork findings on Twitter, $400,000 has been set aside to "combat bullying" and another $200,000 for tattoo removal, as part of a campaign to prevent violence.

There were many good lines in Jindal's speech, but he suffered the usual disadvantage of the opposition. He had no audience popping up like targets in a lively game of Whac-A-Mole to applaud him, and his delivery lacked the passion and personality that are Obama's supreme gifts.

Republicans have a lot to overcome, given their failure to live up to their self-professed standards. Obama has come to the presidency when the public is fearful about losing jobs, retirement savings and health insurance. It wants a nanny and Obama looks an awful lot like Mary Poppins.

The common theme of both speeches was that Americans can pull themselves out of this rut better than government, though government can help. Obama knows the country is tired of the partisan bickering that helps no one and that is why in saluting our common patriotism, he said, "I ... know that every American who is sitting here tonight loves this country and wants it to succeed. That must be the starting point for every debate we have in the coming months, and where we return after those debates are done. This is the foundation on which the American people expect us to build common ground."

Jindal seemed to reciprocate this sentiment when he said, "Here in my state of Louisiana, we don't care what party you belong to, if you have good ideas to make life better for our people. We need more of that attitude from both Democrats and Republicans in our nation's capital."

It is a noble sentiment, but old ways die hard as demonstrated by the silly popping up and down by members of Congress during Obama's speech and the knowing winks and one-upmanship practiced by the applauding factions. These people looked like children trying to emulate the bumper sticker, "My Kid Can Beat Up Your Honor Student."

Don't look for many Democrats to become converts to fiscal restraint now that they have the power to do whatever they want. The question is whether Republicans can demonstrate the superiority of their ideas at a time when the public memory of the party failing to live up to its principles is still fresh.

As Gov. Jindal noted, "You elected Republicans to champion limited government, fiscal discipline, and personal responsibility. Instead, Republicans went along with earmarks and big government spending in Washington."

Repentance can lead to quick forgiveness in Jindal's Catholic Church, but in politics absolution does not come as easily. The key for Obama is whether he can appear to be more of a Republican in some areas than Republicans, who have behaved like Democrats. So far, Obama has the upper hand, but the economic crisis, what happens when troops begin withdrawing from Iraq and where the terrorist suspects go and what they do after Guantanamo closes will determine his political future. If any of these go badly, his speaking skills will not save him. On these issues, at least, we stand or fall together.

So sad.
"These people looked like children trying to emulate the bumper sticker, 'My Kid Can Beat Up Your Honor Student.'"

I can only assume this comment comes from watching the crud on TV; I hope that Mr. Thomas wasn't there in person (to vomit).

I know this about Obama's speeches; I don't need to watch them. I had a perfectly horrible night watching the Detroit Pistons lose yet another game; I think that infinitely preferable to watching that socialist make speeches to cheering and jeering sycophants.

Whew! I feel much better now.

Smarter than...
FYI, My Jack Russell Terrior is smarter than Your Honor Roll Student,My Congressman, both State Senators & our President combined; Hell of lot better Friend too...

The Chicago Salesman Is Who He Is
Ol' Barry Soetoro is what he is - a slick salesman and manipulator of (liberal) white people's silly guilt over slavery and he milks it for all he can get out of them.

What's our Kenyan/Indonesian boy's solution to every problem? More government! Gee what a surprise. Because government is so famously efficient and because government so famously creates wealth and growth.

I don't think Barry's act will last long. By summer, a majority of the public will tire of his evangelical road show - Teleprompter Jesus! Or is that Teleprompter Mohammed?

''Republicans have a lot to overcome..''
--
...writes Mr. Thomas, "given their failure to live up to their self-professed standards. Obama has come to the presidency when the public is fearful about losing jobs, retirement savings and health insurance. It wants a nanny and Obama looks an awful lot like Mary Poppins."

Mary Poppins?

More like Nurse Ratched, don'tcha think?

Folks, if the Republicans want to "overcome...their failure to live up to their self-professed standards," the reply to our Mulatto Messiah ought to have been delivered by Ron Paul, not Bobby Jindal.

Heck, he's the only Republican who actually campaigned for the Republican presidential nomination on the Republican Party platform, isn't he?

And how come the Republican Party isn't finishing every response to the Mulatto Messiah's mouthings with a *Carthago Delenda Est* litany like so?

"So why won't you unseal your records in Kenya, in Hawaii, at the Punahao School, at Occidental, at Columbia, or at Harvard Law, you phony, fraudulent sonofabitch?"

Mrs. Soetoro's miscegenation should read and hear that at his every public appearance.

Little as I like Joe Biden, he ought to be informed that - surprise! - he's the only lawful President of these United States.

Hussein the Hubshi is criminously unqualified.

=====
"Good morning, Mr. Greenspan. I understand that you did not take my friendly advice last fall. I thought maybe you should look for other employment, but I see you have kept your job."

-- Ron Paul (Hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on Financial Services, 17 February 2000)

Republican Shill
Cal Thomas still thinks that Republicans are fiscally responsible, while Democrats are big spenders.

If liberal big spenders love anyone, they should love George W. Bush, who managed to run up huge deficits, signed into law an education-destroying law (NCLB), approved a gigantic new Medicare entitlement, and started a ruinously expensive, unnecessary war on the far side of the globe.

And Democrats are irresponsible, big spenders?

BOTH parties are equally culpable. In fact, the only member of Congress who has any sense of fiscal responsibility is Ron Paul, but the Republicans are quick to shove him aside in their rush to the federal spending trough.

Don't Underestimate our "Fuehrer"
Any 3rd grade kid with a tad of brains knows that all the hype regarding "fixing" the economy is nothing but hot air and a guaranteed miserable failure. It might even be on purpose in order to help them retain power indefinitely from "crisis" to "crisis".
There are incredible similarities between Obama and Hitler, both in personalities, character, oratore and circumstances.
The only way we will ever get rid of this gang will, unfortunately, have to be by force, the sooner, the better.

The press attacked Jindal
as they attack Palin at every turn because the country has allowed the press to be cheerleaders for the left and supporters of Dems. in particular.

Maybe the Reps. should buy their own cable station, as O did in PA.

There has to be a way to get around the NYSlimes and Boston Blob and Wash. Boast. They are losing readers, have no ad revenues, and do not attract young clients, but the lib. press and its ancient ideas keep reeling and stumbling on like some vampire out of a 30s movie.

Supposedly, Viacom would like to *spin off* the CBS Evening News that is now 4th place and losing 10% viewership a year w/Katie Cutesy at the helm. Maybe Murdoch could buy it, altho' he gave Hillary gadzillions in her primary run.

There must be a *Soros* with the dough among the right.

Cal, I'm disappointed

Cal you seem to think that Obama really wants to work with Republicans. Remember his "I Won" line. Number one he doesn't need Republicans except to look more legitimate. His idea of working with Republicans is having them see the light of his thinking.

I personally do not want to see bipartisanship with a socialist. I want my representatives to stand on principle and not be compromising their principles with someone who says one thing and means another.

Obama is Bill Clinton on steroids. In fact, he makes Clinton look like a rookie in the hutzpah department.

I despise Obama...
Finally, with Jindal we have a leader on the national stage, not an empty styrofoam Greek column Obama poser.
Bobby Jindal is one of a very few truly brilliant people who have ideas that work and have proven to do so. He has more smarts in his socks than Obama has in his pretend sentimental idiotic "dreams."
Jindal is a man of principle, not politics; a man with an ethical and moral center, not "above my pay grade" - "I screwed up" - "I won" puerile whining; a leader, not a facilitator; a person of action, not staging; someone who believes in the power of America and Americans, not the power of government; a man of purpose, not empty promise.
Bobby Jindal has actually served the America he leads, not just taken from it for personal gain.
Jindal and other young Republicans such as Cantor and Ryan finally give me some real hope.
Obama couldn't lead a dog to a fire hydrant, but he can put dogs in a "study group" and teach them to bark.
Jindal is real, a leader who has proven himself through his actions, someone we can actually trust and someone who delivers, not the solipsistic pathetic frat brat elitist race baiting welfare Chicago thug wind blower we now must endure.
I didn't listen to Obambi's speech because he never says ANYTHING anyone can trust - NO SUBSTANCE, just dissembling equivocation. Obobo's a master of deceit, but I did listen to Jindal because he not only speaks with substance, he delivers it. Jidal is real, not an Obama cardboard cutout. Republicans have to stand on principle, not worry about voters. Jindal is far more savvy, more brilliant, more gravitas than what he showed in his speech - WHO WAS IN CHARGE OF THAT...BAMBI??? STOP WITH THE OBAMA PANDERING - Let Jindal loose and go for the jugular...I can't stand this GOP mewing and puking.

candidates
I don't know who the Republican presidental candidate will be, but, forget Jindhal. How about Kasich with Palin again as VEEP.

We Shall Soon See!!
There were 15 Republicans who voted for the $480 billion Omnibus bill. If the RNC wants any of the $$ I may have left to me, I don't want to see anymore 'get along to get it done' repubs. Getting 'it done' is not as important to me than doing what is right and if there is one piece of 'pork' in any spending bill it should be shouted down by conservative repubs. I would rather lose the election than seeing anymore 'compassionate conservative' BS.

Obama Lies, The Press Spins
Obama can get away with lying because the press spins it for him. The press is Obama's public relations team. Until the press is dealt with, Obama will continue to get away with his boldface lies.

JESUS TALKED TO THE GOVERNOR
JESUS KNEW THERE WOULD BE DECEIVERS IN THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENCY, HE DID NOT APPEAL TO CAESAR. AS THE MAJORITY OF THIS COUNTRY PUT THEIR TRUST IN OBAMA, HE IS STRIPPING THE RIGHTS OF THE SAME PEOPLE. HIS PROGRAMS ONLY FUND OPPRESSORS FROM THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS WORKERS, COMMUNITY ACTIVIST, AND ADVOCACY GROUPS VIOLATING CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.

sjdoc
Your parents must be so proud to have an "Idiot" in the family. But then again, what could they have expected? People like you and Egon, are poor excuses for God's dirt. The President is not trying to destroy this country but help save it. You should try to find a way to help. You don't have to agree but at least be constructive. He has suggested, that those who are undereducated should return to school. Why don't you take him up on that. Take your "Old As" back to school... Also,I wouldn't waste my time discussing economics with an "Inanity",such as you.

Nice Guy With No Message
I keep hearing that, factually, there is nothing in the Stimulus Bill to support little mice, nor is there a magic levitation train to Disneyland and Las Vegas. How destitute of ideas the GOP must be to keep repeating these bits of Goebbels-esque propaganda ("A statement doesn't have to be true to be believable if you repeat it often enough"). Jindal was disappointing not only because his speaking manner resembled that of Mr Rogers chatting with the kiddies, but because all he had to say was warmed-over Reagan. It's not 1980 any more and Reagan is not here any more. A nation screwed over by billionaires is not in the mood to let billionaires keep the keys to the kingdom. This country is beyond bored with the GOP mantra that 1) government is evil 2) taxation is theft 3) only tax cuts can save the country and 4) any program that assists the people or improves infrastructure is pork. Jindal bombed because he's behind the times.

Whac-A-Mole

Sweet Jesus that was a funny analogy.
Gives me an idea. I'm gonna invent my own version of the game and call it "Whac-A-Lib" (or maybe Whac-A-Rat) and have pelousy, reid, dear leader et al, popping out of holes so you can nail them with a big mallet. It's guaranteed to make big money in my home town.

SJ Doc:
Thank you.
Obama is an Indonesian citizen. Yes, he is POTUS but the truth will eventually come out.
I'm hoping a disgruntled low level functionary at Occidental will leak the documents.

I'd settle for a look at Barry Soetoro's US Passport.

The lib/leftist chant,

"We will grow the economy by increasing debt and removing capital from the private sector".

Yes the chant is as stupid as it looks and sounds, read it out loud.

The government is the most inefficient and ineffective organization in the world. Why would anyone above the level of idiot think the government can solve our problems?

At its best, government is a necessary evil.

Killer & Lilly
This illegitimate, jug eared son of a Kenyan goat herder and poor white trash and product of an affirmitave action education wants to spend your children and grandchildren's future.

Hope this was the cnage you wanted.

BTW, I did not agree with the egregious spending under the Bush administration.

When you rob Peter to pay Paul, you will always have the support of Paul.

Change your login names to "Paul" or "Pauline". It would fit better.

eddie too
We will grow the economy by increasing demand. That jump start with spending programs and tax cuts will more that enable a payback of the debt.

Companies will not invest if there is no demand for their services. We don't need to stimulate investment with capital gains tax cuts we need to stimulate demand with government spending especially if that spending improves our infrasture, invests in schools to make our country more competitive or helps us reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Like by weatherizing homes or replacing the government fleet with more fuel efficient cars.

The US military is the best in the world and it is a part of the Federal Government.

The ideas of the right are retro and one size fits all.

Hard Thought
Besides being tacky, the fact is that Obama was not an affirmative action candidate and not just anybody makes Harvard Law Review.

Funny how conservatives were not too concerned when it was GWB who was squandering the surplus left by the Clinton Administation.

As Cheney told the President Ronald Reagan taught us that deficits down matter.

But Now everyone on the right has become a born again fiscal conservative at the one time when that makes no sense. It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

JMO51
Capital gains tax cuts are put right back into the economy by either reinvestment and allowing businesses to grow or by use of private citizens to purchase goods and services.

The only thing they are NOT is controlled by the government.

They are real stimulus instead of government directed spending.

The key paragraph
I have to wonder, does Mr. Thomas read his own words and ponder the import of them.
He writes this spectacular paragraph, "Don't look for many Democrats to become converts to fiscal restraint now that they have the power to do whatever they want. The question is whether Republicans can demonstrate the superiority of their ideas at a time when the public memory of the party failing to live up to its principles is still fresh."

He could have stopped right there. He should have simply made the logical conclusion.
We're toast. The Democrats can do whatever they want. An admission that there are no restraints on the actions of government anymore.
The second part of the paragraph is answerable with the old cliche, "Does a leopard change its spots?" The Republican rhetoric in 2009 sounds exactly like it did in 1994. We know what they did with our trust then.
Toast, I say. Toast.

JMO51
Prove the sail eared simpleton didn't get into school because of affirmative action.

You can't.

And "tacky" is calling Bush a monkey, Hitler, a Nazi, dumb, etcetera, etcetera.

Obama is illegitimate and therefor a real bustard (intentionally mispelled).

Lost the Hawaiian vote
I thought it was pretty Ironic that of all the things Jindal was going to attack a warning system against a natural disasters. I know there are no Valcanos in Louisana, but one thing is clear if a politician from the Mid-West were to attack funding for a Hurricane Warning System on the gulf coast, Jindal would be the first to call him a moran.

Hard Thought
You made the claim, so you prove it. And there is no affirmative action for law review.

Did you hear me call Bush any of those things. The fact that someone in the left might have said that is no reason for you to do it.

Personal responsibility is about doing the right thing even when others do it. Reacting in kind is junior high school logic. Think about it.

SJDoc #19 @ 7:53
What do you think of this idea? I know it's odd but you give it a thought, please.
Ron Paul writes the response speech.
But it is delivered by someone else. Let's imagine Charlton Heston were still alive.
Paul provides the substance. Heston provides the delivery. Imagine someone of professional delivery capability with the right kind of basic conservative creds reading a Paul speech. Could be transformative for the nation.
As we're reading, Jindal was graded too much on delivery. Not to mention the substance is being panned as mediocre.
Would this be wrong to do if done in the open? Would it be too much of a political liability? Somehow I don't think so.
The Republicans do need to recognize that they need Paul to lead. Otherwise they're toast.

JMO51
I reserve the right to call this fraud anything I wish.

First amendment, you know.

BTW, I didn't say he went to law school on AA, but I implied he got his education or parts thereof from AA.

The sail eared simpleton won't release his records ala John Kerry, so until he proves he didn't, I have a right to say he did.

I have nothing but contempt for his rheoric, his politics, his policies and his programs.

I don't know him personally, but I dislike his public personality.

As for junior high school remarks, "I won" comes to mind.

JMO51
Seems to me whether your carcass was left hanging in the wind or about to get singed it would be YOU who'd want to pay for protection of the early warning stuff. I mean, man, it is YOUR carcass. Why should I pay? Am I to pay your food bill because you have needs for food? Where do you put the end of it?
Here in the Midwest we have our own disasters. We have floods and tornadoes.
Each pay his own way as each has his own needs.

para_dimz
One Nation, Under god.

Hard Thought
Hay its a free country.

para_dimz
I have often wondered if conservatives are just selfish individuals fixated on the idea that someone might get a bigger benefit from any government program than they do.

You post puts one more notch on that side of the ledger. PS the Midwest farmers get a lot of farm subsidies that make the price of food for us consumers higher. In percentages New York send the most money to washington and gets the least as a percentage back.

Some of the states that send the least and get the most back are red states in the south.

The midwest does pretty well. But that charity would dry up if we took your prescription.

JMO51
If you consider wanting to keep what we earn "selfish", then we are selfish. If you consider choosing what charieties we want to give to "selfish" , then yes - we are guilty. We want small government and we DO NOT want Government charity. We don't mooch off of our neighbors, like you do. If that is "selfish" then so be it, but ask yourself this: do you feel better when you can get your neighbors (or your mommy) to support you? Wouldn't you rather do something worthwhile for somebody, so you can EARN your own living?
THAT is the difference between conservatives and liberals/socialists/statists/communists (all the same).

Afraid of Jindal
Does "a" stand for "another idiot" or "afraid of Jindal?

JMO51
You are right about farm subsidies. And the farmers overwhelmingly vote democrat.

What a conservative is can be many things.

One can be a social conservative and want a return to tradional values of a century ago.

One can be a fiscal conservative and want the government to stop wasting money on the pork projects so endearing to the left.

One can be a Constitutional conservative and advocate that our government go back to what the Founding Fathers envisioned.

One can be a legal conservative and demand that judges follow the law and not make up things out of whole cloth.

One can be a conservative and try to push for State's Rights.

There are many flavors of conservatism, but the bottom line is individual freedom, individual responsibility, not being forced to pay for others' bad decisions and a belief in a hand up not a hand out.

Conservatives, in general, are not selfish but want to keep what they earn and not have it dished out to people that won't help themselves. I, personally, have a niece that fits this description and she vehemently rejects personal responsibility, demanding that the "government" help her out.

I am a Constitutional and fiscal conservative. I disagree with most entitlements and programs to redistribute wealth. I also want the federal government to stick to what the Constitution says are its' duties.

There are many other things, such as no "right" to an education paid for by the government. No "right" to housing, no "right" to medical care and many other things.

You get what you work for, not what somebody else worked for.

Hope that clears it up some.

Criticism
Republicans may be criticized for not living up to their principals. However, Democrats can be criticized even more strongly - for living up to theirs. Obama and company spend money faster than a trophy wife.

Constitution?
Obabba is not the least bit interested in anything where helping the current crop of United States' citizens is concerned. Look at the wording of his barf-laden speech! He's talking about all his communist affiliates emerging stronger, NOT the legitimate United States' citizens. MY GOD PEOPLE! What does it take to make you understand that Obabba is a low-life parasite who wants to subvert the constitution! He's already started doing that very thing. Look at this website! He's calling for children to report their parents if they don't support him!

Your mind is already made up. Only democrats forge ahead when it makes absolutely no sense to do so. Perhaps the entire party could use an exorcism. Beware the Jindal hahhahahahaahah!

Today Show
Bobby Jindal had only smart things to say to Meredith Viera and I'm glad she allowed him to talk. I'm sure she knew he made a lot of sense and had better not cut him off.

a
Does the fact that you're a religious bigot worry you?

Does the fact that you believe in anthropogenic global warming worry you?

Does the fact that "cap and trade" will impoverish the USA worry you?

Does the fact that the MSM demonized Sarah Palin yet carried water for the Oblahma campaign worry you?

Does the fact that this budget and record deficits will impoverish your childen and granchildren worry you?

a
THere you go again - you can't argue with facts, so you resort to trying to disqualify your opponant. So What if Jindal participated in an excercism? Who told you he did? Why are you so CRUEL, as to condone Government steeling earnings from productive citizens? Do you really HATE America as much as you let on? Why? Are we to play mommy and support you - is that what you want? Are you too worthless to earn your own? WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?

a
"Does the fact that Jindal participated in an exorcism not worry you?"

Source please.

AH
I agree with you. No need to watch his speeches anymore. First he never says anything. Second the MSM will tell you that this speech was even better than his last and of course that one was the greatest speech ever delivered. From what I understand Pelosi jumped up and down like a jack rabbit. The crowd fawned and acted like they were at a rock concert. His socialist followers will claim that he is sent by God to save us all. I am amazed that there are this many sick people in our country that buy into all of this and will follow the pied piper and step right off the cliff if he says to. This guy is the worst thing that could have happened to this country and I hope we will some day recover.

a
I'll take that as an admission that you don't have a credible source.

OBAMA AND THE END TIMES
Whereas the buoyant, cheerful Ronald Reagan, a man with a happy nature, went down in history as the Great Communicator our anti-Reagan 60s born leader, a lying, thieving miscommunicator, will likely be known to history as the Great Depressor: the man who turned a deep recession into a 21st century depression and killed public morale and the American spirit every inch along the way.

But we need not despair a new dawn is coming, for Obama is a sign that the End Times are here: the End Times of Liberalism, the End Times of counter culture radicalism, the end of the political and cultural Left; their end is near as the Great Depressor will prove to be their very worst nightmare.

Jesus H. Christ
'negative'? What is Obama supposed to do? Lie and say everything is just fine? That we haven't lost 600,000 jobs in the past year? That Bush had not run up a trillion dollar deficit? That the stock market isn't floundering? That many of our retirement funds are 40% or more lower than a year ago? That most of this happened on Bush's watch? That Iraq continues to drain our treasury?

Jindal is an admitted exorcist, fundy nuthouse Catholic. All the educational veneer cannot hide that nonsense from the American people, anymore than Palin could hide her utter lack of foundational intelligence from the majority of Americans. You righties think that your leaders connect, when they don't. You try to clothe them in the "Reagan" robes, but they are nothing like Ronald Reagan, who was a conservative, yes, but he was well read, not a religious kook, and pragmatic. He didn't need to call people 'elites' as put downs. He trusted in what he believed, not in trying to demean what others believed. None of the current GOP leader types understand that, the depth of Reagan.

So, keep putting Jindal or Palin or that ultimate nutter, Santorem (who brought a dead baby home for his other kids to bond with, NUTTER), out there. You lose people in places like suburban PA, men like my brothers in law, blue collar all, who look at Palin as a retarded, out of touch hypocrite, and Jindal as an 'educated' geek with not a shred of common sense, and see the GOP as promoting inferiors simply trying to seem like the GOP is 'diverse'. Any African American willing to prostitute himself or herself (Steele and Parker, are you listening) as 'conservative' immediately get promoted to the top of the class, though they vote Dem in the privacy of the voting booth. they play you for the fools you all are. Coulter and Ingraham wouldn't be heard if they were on the left--we expect smarter.

a
Jindal's taking part in an exorcism does not worry me. You worry me. You are starting to be a real pain in the arse. I doubt you know much about exorcism. I know very little. Should it ever interest me, I will read up on it. Right now, I don't think it has any relevancy. Mr. Jindal appears to be a perfectly reasonable man with a higher than average intelligence. That does NOT describe either you or Obama - or even me, since I am female. Get off it already. Nobody is answering because they don't want to. Go back to Kos or Huff where yo'll find more crazies who want tp play your game. OUIGI?

Hard Thought
That is a rational and consistently logical position to have. The problem is that it does not match with what people calling themselves conservatives do when they get into office.

Conservatives are for states rights until it comes to what they don't like them they want the Feds meddling like the Terri Shiavo case or the case of trying to limit California's ability to set higher emission standards for cars or the New York Attorney General from investigating Wall Street or the District of Columbia from banning guns.

They don't like government spending, but they spend like crazy when it benefits their district or state.

So how should the conservative be judged, by its core beliefs or by the way the elected officials carrying its banner act when they are elected.

a
why does jindal participating in an exorcism scare you so bad? are you worried he's going to try and come after you to throw your demons out? Look if you don't have a problem with a man who at one time (before it became politically inexpedient to do so) claimed that one of his mentors was a man who claimed that 911 was "chickens coming home to roost" and that God hates white people, then what is your deal the jindal's participation in his religions. If that is the only problem that you can find then you are in serious trouble. Let me ask you a question -- who has helped the poor more? The Roman Catholic Church or Obama's Church...and you have to exclude any referrals to government asistance programs. Historically and currently the Roman Catholic Church does more to assist the poor not only to give them the dignity they deserve because they are created in the image of God, but to give them opportunities to get out of their lifestyles. BTW -- I'm not Roman Catholic by any stretch of the means, but I recognize what that church has done in the name of Jesus Christ. I am Protestant like Obama, but I recognize the destruction that his church has done using the name of Jesus Christ to justify it.

David
My state of New York has been subsidizing southern red states since the days of reconstruction. We were talking about a Valcano Warning System to save lives, not a welfare queen sucking off the system.

And why do you automatically assume that I am sucking off the system? I went to public school and pay school taxes. I pay tolls and use the bridges. I expect to pay my fair share and get it back in services. And no I don't have a problem with the government helping out someone who is disabled. I guess you do.

Evil tax cuts
May 2003, Bush's tax cut goes into effect

Tax revenues:
2003 - $1.7 trillion
2004 - $1.8 trillion
2005 - $2.15 trillion
2006 - $2.4 trillion
2007 - $2.56 trillion

Judged by their core beliefs, obviously.

The saying power corrupts is true when a Congress critter or Senator gets elected as a conservative and then doesn't act like one.

They usually lose their next election.

Politics is the art of the possible. Last November it was only possible to vote liberal or liberal lite. No other candidate had a chance.

That is why a lot of conservatives stayed home or were energized to accept McCain after he picked Palin.

a
do demons enter the body?yes they can,if you do not have the Lord there to protect you.You invite thm in when you live an ungodly life, messing around in the cults

a 2
Jesus told his disciples after they failed in an attempt to rid a person of a demon;he said,This kind is can come out, only by PRAYER AND FASTING. Some of you need to read the scriptures and Quit guessing! As far as Obama being a christian,I have my doubts. The bible teaches that we shall know them,by their fruits(labor).Jerimiah wrong teaches hate and guess who set under him for 20 yrs?

Chloe
Obama gives a speech.

Stock market takes a nose dive.

Cause.

Effect.

What ticks
me off is the groveling applause the Repubs gave him. They should not have given him any encouragement..they have been disenfranchised in the House by Nazi Pill, which means the people who voted for them were disenfranchised, they were denied their voice through their elected representatives so why all this jumping up and clapping for this imposter?
I am soooo sick of hearing about this historic event, we have a black man as president whoop de doo..the real question is, is he an American?
Actions speak louder than words and sealing them from the American public who are forced to show theirs when they go for a drivers license.
I hate watching him, he's so arrogant and I cannot stand listening to him..great orator
give me a break..orators can talk off the cuff as easily as they can a written speech..he needs
a teleprompter..some speaker! Orators can
make impromptu speeches without batting an eye.
Him..it's er, uh, um erk, ick ploop.

Jindal the fundy nutter
"why does jindal participating in an exorcism scare you so bad? are you worried he's going to try and come after you to throw your demons out?" This is 2009. We don't need people who believe in the devil or in exorcisms. He is a NUTTER.

To compare a religious nutter with a social activist (nutter Jindal to Rev. Wright) is nonsense. Do you understand what the expression chickens coming home to roost means?

When did Wright say that God hates white people. Show me an actual citation for that sentence.

Jindal being an exorcist is the least of his problems. His lack of heart is his biggest.

a
I am not the one who is lazy. You posted an inflammatory comment about Jindal, but are unwilling to produce a credible source. Huffington Post, Daily Kos, Dailykingfish, and the like don’t count. Neither does Time, that liberal rag. Unfortunately, the New Oxford Review in which Jindal described his experience is not free online and I don’t believe the issue is important enough to subscribe, especially since I am not a Catholic.

More to the point, though, is your religious bigotry. You would discount a politician because of an article he wrote 15 years ago when he was 22? How is that any different from a conservative saying Obama shouldn’t be the president because he admitted to using cocaine in college? A bit disingenuous, don’t you think?

If that is all you liberals have on Jindal, I’m not worried one bit. I’m more interested in what he does with Louisiana in the next few years myself.

Chloe
You are a religious bigot.

a
Why do you assume that because it is not a part of your experience that it doesn't exist or that it is not valid?

I work in social services, in a psychiatric center. I am also an evangelical Christian who has lived in a world on the edge of Western civilization.

I believe that many people act in very odd ways because of psychiatric disorders and that meds can make them better. That's 90+% of our client population. I have also seen a handful of clients for whom medication was totally ineffective. In many cases, these people's apparent delusional system involves demon possession. I've had one experience of a woman who was apparently mentally ill until an exorcism that I did not participate in who is now apparently quite sane WITHOUT medication.

Schizophrenia never spontenously heals in the absence of medication. How do we explain why this woman is sane? My secular coworkers cannot. BTW, no harm was done to this woman in the "exorcism". Kendell commanded the demon to answer some questions, then prayed that God would remove the demon from her. My husband said the woman raged the whole time and hurled verbal abuse at them, but nobody touched her. They simply prayed for her. Psychiatric meds didn't work on this woman. Prayer as exorcism did.

Why do you assume that because it is not a part of your experience that it doesn't exist or that it is not valid? One of us is wrong, but how do you know for certain that it's not you?

Hatred
To compare a religious nutter with a social activist (nutter Jindal to Rev. Wright) is nonsense. Do you understand what the expression chickens coming home to roost means? chole

========================

A LA chicken sacrifice voodoo ceremony?

Oh come on - The Kennedy's and the Pelosi's are of the Catholic religion that has exorcisms, do you denounce them?

Cone the creator of black theology said this:

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community … Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

Social activist and NOT religious nutter? I think not!

a
You didn't address the fact that this article was written by Jindal in 1994 when he was 22 years old. We don't even know if he still believes in exorcism. But that's beside the point...you are making leaps in your conclusions about the significance of this event in his life! Where is the evidence that Jindal believes all mental illness is the result of demon possession? He sure is expending a lot of effort to reform health care in LA if he believes such a thing. I don't know any person of faith who believes that all mental illness is the result of demon possession. You are grasping at straw here.

Jindal, exorcism, etc.
First off, I wish we didn't CARE about the President's religion - not so long ago, it was a big deal that JFK was a Catholic (one reason Al Smith couldn't win.) Guess what - Jindal converted to Catholicism, and that church, the same one that the Kennedys belong to, believes in exorcism. Yet no one asks Democrat Catholics like Teddy Kennedy or Nancy Pelosi what they believe about the teachings for their church.

Romney, because he is a Republican, was criticized for being a Mormon. Harry Reid, because he is a Democrat, is not called on his being a Mormon, however.

George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, etc., were criticized for being evangelicals; however, Jimmy Carter was praised more often than mocked for his evangelical faith, and of course Bill Clinton regularly appeared with tears in his eyes at black churches.

Obama, of course, talks about his Christian faith, but the fact that he attended a church that espoused liberation theology (which Rev. Wright himself said on national TV) didn't cause the media to run an investigation.

The reality is - if you are a Republican and dare to be a religious person, you will be excoriated.

Jindal cont.
However, my big problem with all of this - who cares about someone's faith AS LONG AS it doesn't affect the way they govern? JFK didn't convert the USA into an arm of the vatican. Looking at Romney's record - while he was Governor of Massachusetts, the state didn't become an apologist for the LDS church.

With Jindal - my concern is HIS RECORD. He has just become Governor of Louisiana. Instead of looking at something he might have done 20 years ago (and didn't Obama, the Great One, smoke "some blow" back in his youth? That's cocaine for those not up on the lingo.) I'm actually more concerned about a President who took drugs and has no record of executive experience aside from his own campaign than a potential President who performed an exorcism.

My big concern about Jindal - how will his state fare under his tenure? If he cuts corruption, creates a more business friendly environment, reduces unemployment and poverty, etc., in his state as Governor, I will want to vote for him for President. If he does a bad job, I will not want to vote for him.

While it would be great if he could also articulate like Obama, I actually think it's more important that a President achieve things than talk well.

earmarks

Speaking of earmarks, has anyone notice that Rep. Pence's "principled minority," is back in saddle again. That is, the GOP is apparently in earmark mode again (or as alwasys).

The party of Randy Duke Cunningham lives. Who said it was dead?

a and other lib's
I hate to cut and past one of my own posts, but this is why I think participating in exorcism is a disqualifying activity for a possible presidential candidate... a

=====================

So according to your logic, any *CATHOLIC* democrat is ALSO not eligible for POTUS since they could be subject to their religious belief in exorcism?? This means Pelosi's, Kennedy's etc?

Americans V. Globalists
The issue is NO LONGER democrat v. republican. It is AMERICAN V. GLOBALIST.

Globalists: George H. W. Bush, William Jefferson Clinton, George W. Bush, and of course Barack Hussein Obama.

As long as you want to see dems as bad and repubs as good, or dems as good and repubs as bad you will NOT be able to SAVE AMERICA.

The ONLY way to save AMERICA is to attack ALL globaists and support ALL AMERICANS.

to put it another way:

georgeherbertwalkerbush / williamjeffersonclinton / georgewbush/barackhusseinobama / arethesamepresident / rolledintoone...

SO...

ARE YOU AN AMERICAN OR A GLOBALIST?

STOP calling DUMBAMA names ...
It is time to stop referring to ole' BIG EARS by those adoring names like 'the messiah' or the "great one" - even sarcastically ...

WE ARE AT WAR FOLKS!

It is time to fight ...

For example NEVER refer to the fairness doctrine as the fairness doctrine ...

It is the UNFAIRNESS DOCTRINE ... get it?

so Obama is ...

DUMBAMA
B-HUSSEIN-O
FOREIGNER-IN-CHIEF
PRESIDENT O'BORTER
OBORTER-IN-CHIEF
OLE' BIG EARS (like sinatra, y'know)
OBAMBIE
OBA-DIARRHEA-OF-THE-MOUTH (he talks too much)
TELEPROMPTER-IN-CHIEF
TELEPROMPTER-KING

Let's stop accidentally saying what the press and the trolls on this site want us to do ...

LET'S ATTACK DUH-BAMBIE AND RIDICULE HIM BEFORE HIS HENCHMEN SHUT DOWN TH AND END TALK RADIO!

Eric Holder - RACE BAITER...
ERIC HOLDER - that black guy that DUMBAMA - the RACE-BAITER-IN-CHIEF nominated to be AG - which in Eric's case stands for ...

A##holius Gigantus ...

named some of his heroes the other day ... one of whom was W. E. Du Bois ...

"Upon the death of Stalin on March 16, 1953, Du Bois wrote in the National Journal: "Josef Stalin was a great man; few other men of the 20th century approach his stature. He was simple, calm and courageous. He seldom lost his poise; pondered his problems slowly, made his decisions clearly and firmly; never yielded to ostentation nor coyly refrained from holding his rightful place with dignity. He was the son of a serf but stood calmly before the great without hesitation or nerves. But also – and this was the highest proof of his greatness – he knew the common man, felt his problems, followed his fate."

Understand that by then it was well-known that Stalin was the biggest mass murderer in history until that point."

AND ERIC IS THE AG - A##HOLIUS GIGANTUS FOLKS ...

The Emperor's New Clothes
"I...know that every American who is sitting here tonight loves this country and wants it to succeed."

Since President Obama was STANDING and not sitting when he delivered his speech, it is entirely possible that he excludes himself from those who love this country.

It is doubtful that everyone sitting (or standing) there does love the US or its Constitution since they are doing all in their power to turn us into an impoverished, socialistic nation.

As far as "wanting it to succeed," it is obvious that the Obama administration's idea of America succeeding is for them to succeed in subverting the Constitution and consolidating all power into their hands.

A true Patriots' idea of America succeeding is for ALL of the socialist-Marxists infesting our present government to be voted out, their unconstitutional laws reversed and public servants elected in their places who intend to "faithfully" uphold the US Constitution.

"This is the foundation on which the American people expect us to build common ground."

What is the "foundation"...that all of those sitting there who love this country and want it to succeed? Congress is the foundation?

That makes no sense at all as is usual with every speech Obama gives. Someone is just stringing together groups of meaningless phrases that if parsed are found to be utter nonsense.

Obama clothes himself in meaningless rhethoric just as the self-deluded emperor stood naked before the people in his invisible new clothes.

OBLAHBLAH & THE BIG O .....
Remember RIDICULE is a WEAPON ...

because OBAMAPHILES have no sense of humor ...

and neither does THE BIG-EARS-IN-CHIEF ...

he could suck the life out of any good dinner party ...

so the names are rolling in ...

here are two great ones:

OBLAHBLAH and the BIG 0 ... to go with

DUMBAMA
B-HUSSEIN-O
FOREIGNER-IN-CHIEF
PRESIDENT O'BORTER
OBORTER-IN-CHIEF
OLE' BIG EARS (like sinatra, y'know)
OBAMBIE
OBA-DIARRHEA-OF-THE-MOUTH (he talks too much)
TELEPROMPTER-IN-CHIEF
TELEPROMPTER-KING
DUH-BAMBIE

KEEP THOSE CARDS AND LETTERS ROLLING IN ...

Obama said, "I ... know that every
American who is sitting here tonight loves this country and wants it to succeed. That must be the starting point for every debate we have in the coming months, and where we return after those debates are done. This is the foundation on which the American people expect us to build common ground."

Well we know for a fact that his wife loves America - ever since her hubbie won the nomination.

One thing I cannot understand. Obama swore to uphold, defend, and protect the Constitution of the USA. Yet he is on record as saying that this same Constitution does not go far enough to say what the state should do for/to you and should be changed.

Why would he swear to uphold, protect, and defend something he thinks is flawed?

Since Bill Ayres thinks that we should
kill all the rich people, perhaps he will do us the honors? Wouldn't it be ironic if some radical student bombed his house because he is a wealthy inheritor and a rich university prof to boot?

Between Jindal and Obama, Jindal seems to have a real love for this nation. At least I have not heard any noise about him thinking the Constitution is flawed. Besides, he grew up with parents that worked and achieved the American Dream. He appreciates that equal opportunity that America affords everyone.

Obama, on the other hand, has had everything given to him, from his college education donated by Muslims, to his political career. Why there is even some suspicion that Bill Ayres wrote his book. Obama has never had to work for anything. And that is the difference.

When Will they Ever Learn.....
I guess the answer to that question is never. Government is not the answer to our problems and to quote Thomas Jefferson, "A government that is big enough to give you everything that you want is big enough to take away all that you have."

Enough Already
Republicans need to cool it with the mea culpas and come up with a mantra that claims credit for their successes. I thnk they are reading the election results wrong. The Dems just outorganized and out fundraised them. forget the hang dog a poplogioes and get to work.

That said, Omaha gave a laundry list of demogogic one liners. Jindal actually made a spech with structure and a theme.
