Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

"What does change mean?" asked Woodrow Wilson in his inaugural address. That is a question which will soon be answered by President Barack Obama.

What surprised me most about Obama's speech was its lack of passion. It was lacking in the soaring oratory we have come to expect, especially when compared to other speeches he has delivered, most notably on Election Night. It seemed as cold as the subfreezing weather. Maybe he was trying to lower expectations. He succeeded.

Still, there were a number of themes which conservatives can praise. Among them, a message to terrorists that "you will not defeat us" and a pledge to eliminate wasteful government programs. That is easier said than done given that Congress will make those decisions, not the new president. Every government program attracts constituencies that argue how essential they are.

I enjoyed his line dismissing "worn-out dogmas" but wonder what he means by it. When a liberal dogma and a conservative dogma face off, which dogma will bite and which will roll over? When liberals talk like this, they usually require the conservative to compromise his principles in order to receive their blessing. During his relatively brief time in elective office, Obama has not been known for seeking common ground. Words ought to mean something. What does he mean by his?

Obama hinted at what he intends do about embryonic stem cell research and possibly "global warming," saying he wants to "restore science to its rightful place." What place would that be? Above morality and common sense? Above other scientists who disagree? There is no consensus about global warming. In fact, there are growing numbers of scientists and growing amounts of scientific evidence questioning whether this is indeed a dangerously warming planet. Will Obama rely only on those scientists who agree with his political positions?

On stem cell research, new science is showing that adult stem cells may fulfill the objectives originally believed to be achieved only with embryos. Which science will prevail in such cases? Will it be real science, or the "science" that supports the objectives of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party?

No one can deny the significance of Obama's moment. An Inauguration is a demonstration to the world of what makes America unique and great. Inauguration Day was the fun part. Now comes the hard part. The Wall Street Journal published a graph that showed every president but one since Harry Truman left office with a far lower approval rating than when he entered. The exception was Bill Clinton. With his approval numbers higher than any incoming president, Barack Obama cannot help but decline in public favor.

Part of this is due to our placing too much faith in politicians who cannot deliver all we want. Let's see how long the public continues to be enamored with him. And let's see how serious he is about finding common ground with conservatives.

The media coverage of the Inauguration gave a preview of how they might cover the Second Coming. It was total worship. No doubts were expressed; no questions about his ability to do anything -- from healing the economy to bringing peace to the Middle East. The media have at last found a god in whom they can believe. They are worshipping at the altar of the church of Barack Obama. Journalists and some of their ideological cable TV allies have so much invested in Obama's success that they will be hard-pressed to criticize him for anything and can probably be counted on to explain and justify any mistakes he makes, at least in the first two years.

In his inaugural address, Herbert Hoover spoke of America's "fruits of accomplishment." He added he had "no fears for the future of our country. It is bright with hope." There followed by just a few months the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression. Hope can be dangerous if it is misplaced.

Alexander Pope wrote, "Hope springs eternal in the human breast; Man never Is, but always To be blest: The soul, uneasy and confin'd from home, Rests and expatiates in a life to come." ("An Essay on Man," 1733)

Pope's hope was in eternal life. Anyone who invests hope in temporal politicians is almost certain to be disappointed.

Short was President Obama
President Obama first message to the country was short in more than one way. The address that had been anticipated by the media as a message that deserved to be chiseled in stone for all eternity in reality it lacked substance. Obama is now president and the market closed down. Money did not fall out the sky, the national debt did not disappear, the banking industry is still in a crisisas is it all over the world.President Obama celebrate tonight with the dance because tomorrow you become the blame, welcome to the seat of power.

Rev Lowery gave the benediction
The good Rev Lowery gave the only fitting ending to the coronation of a man who spent over 20 years in a rabidly racist church by asking God Almighty "to finally make the white man do right!"

Must have sounded to Barack, Michelle and the girls that they were Wight back in the same ole pews at Trinity church!

Only in America can you state without reservation that whites are evil personified and get universal applause from the press, intelligentsia, cable TV (didn't Chris Mathews get a trill up his leg when he heard the good Rev) and libs in general. The only surprising thing about the Rev's benediction was he did not identify George W as the devil himself and call for fire from heaven to destoy said evil one.

Did anyone else...
..find the inaugural speech was no more than O's campaign stump speech, condensed?

PS... hey Michelle... my mom had a couch in the '70's that looked just like your dress.

Thank You !

Thank you Cal Thomas !

It is utterly refreshing to read something other than

'The Literary' sound of some clumnist's ( I can't call them columnists)

labial smack as it impacts the gluteus maximus of 'The One'.

We could see all the gushing of those others on any TV, or in any newspaper.

Why do those others subject us to it on a 'supposed' conservative site?

How will we know reality
It is clear that the media has no intention of presenting anything more negative about Obama than, well, OK, they have no intention of presenting negative about Obama and that's a problem.

Barack Obama does not want to be a war president and so he will not. His focus will be on how to consolidate government control of the domestic product. His strategy seems to be guilt by lack of public service. Even as he proposes spending to a level that staggars comprehension, he wants more blood from us turnips.

So stand by America, you are about to be asked to "sacrifice" more, and more and more until you are reduced to the threshold of poverty, all while you are being sold a bill of goods. How will we know? We won't, there is no objective media to bring us reality.

Congratulations President Obama ...
Best wishes to you and your family ...

A Crying Shame
Late this afternoon I watched ex-president Bush make one of his best,if not THE best speech of his presidency,in my opinion. He had arrived in Midland,Tx.

What was surprising ( and maybe not surprising, come to think of it) that I checked to see if ANY other channel was carrying it. Sure enough,FOX was the only one,and they left a few minutes before it was finished.

Now,I know he is just an ex,but why not give him the respect as having his last speech televised? Most of the other channels were showing re-airs of earlier broadcasts.

Yet,we are told we should 'all come together' and welcome the new POTUS. Well, buckos, that goes both ways. Feelings cannot be forced and after all the vitriol we have read from the left...it may just take a while to 'come together'. Frankly,my dears,I don't give a darn.

Chiseled in stone

I don't think so.

The only place we're ever going to see that lame speech again, is on the back of commemorative McDonalds plastic soda cup in a tribute to famous one term presidents.

Cal Thomas is right - sort of
Anyone who invests hope in temporal politicians is almost certain to be disappointed.
****************************************************

Hopes and expectations are sky high right now. Only a great leader can lift the country out of the mess we are in. Time will tell if Obama can get us back on course.

Rowly
I agree. Bush was awesome!

Thank you, Mr. Thomas!
Finally, a column that addresses the real issues. Not only have we just inaugurated the most liberal president in American history, we have witnessed the rise of the Obama cult. The obeisance given to the man is sickening. Does anyone of faith really believed that our nation will not answer for this blasphemy? Take a look:

Barak's Doctrine = Bush's Doctrine NOT!
First, We recognize the inauguration of any president is a historic event. Obama's skin color does not make him 'more important' than the previous 43 presidents - and you and others who are making it so are doing all of us an injustice. We DO NOT JUDGE MEN BY THEIR RACE.....period!

After blaming Bush for over 2 years, Barak sounded a lot like the 'Bush Doctrine' Gibson discussed with Palin i.e. 'you are with us or against us' but he said it more 'elequently' thanks to speech writers. So, I fully expect the media will say it's good for him to be 'tough on terror'. Until, he gives his foreign policy speech in a muslim nation and then his true colors will emerge as he promises to release the Gitmo 'freedom fighters' and avenge their 'dignity' and 'right to a fair trial' as a sign of 'respect for muslims'. OBAMA CAN'T BE TRUSTED AND HIS WORDS MEAN NOTHING BECAUSE THEY ARE POLL BASED. He will become the chamelion we don't need for foreign policy. Naive americans really believed his 'tough talk' pretending to sound like a defender of our democracy? The man has stopped our nuclear/missle budget and has said finding Bin Ladin (the man responsible for 9/11 is not a priority just like building our nuclear capability when Russia is strengthening it's missle capability. SOMEBODY STOP THE LOVE AFFAIR AND FANTASY OF HUSSEIN. It's time to get a grip!

JAG CA - you typical white person you!
I think Bush was included in the 'white man doing right'. Unfortunately, for america, community organizing rheteric has just begun - aey, it's going to be a long 4 years. Hi ni unjinga kabisa!

Andrea
Do you think Obama is the anti-Christ?

nomo
No, I don't, but the reaction to him certainly represents the spirit of anti-Christ. See 1 John 4:3 and 5:21

glenda
Thanks. I would like to see the ending. I watch C-SPAN daily in the early morning. The Washington Journal.I will look for the speech tomorrow. Thanks again.

Andrea
Glad that you don't think that way. I am not sure how else people are supposed to react to this historic day. Today should be a time for celebration. The very hard work and decisions will come soon enough. Obama could be a great prez - time will tell. I say give the man a chance.

Re:RW
"PS... hey Michelle... my mom had a couch in the '70's that looked just like your dress."

And I remember watching GHWB's inauguration in 89, and wondering why his white-haired "grandmother" with the pearl necklace was with him on the dais instead of his wife.

oh, wait...

Thank you, nomo
I am trying my best to keep my eyes on the Lord, as I know He is in control, but I fear for my country when so many revere a mere man.

Isaiah 42:8
"I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images."

Regarding what you said about the lack of coverage on Bush's speech in Midland, TX:

On John Hawkins' thread today, one liberal poster made mention of - approvingly - a moment at the pre-inauguration ceremonies where the crowd lustily booed and jeered George Bush. I commented that given the very liberal populace in Washington DC and the fact that the vast majority of those who came to attend the festivities were Obama voters whose deep antipathy toward George Bush was hardly a secret, the fact that George Bush would get such a reception from such a crowd didn't surprise me. And then I said that apparently with the vast majority of liberals these days, graciousness - even for a very limited time - is a character virtue that's obviously "above their pay grade". And from what you've said, it's obvious that graciousness, again even just for a very compressed amount of time, is "above the pay grade" as well for the vast majority of liberals in Pravda aka The MSM.

George Washington
At the end the quote from Washington was so stirring, so inspiring. But what I really admire in Barack is his ability to close the gap between the "sublime" things like the courage of an America led by men like Washington--and the ordinary everyday things beautifully celebrated in the poem by Elizabeth Alexander.

Dependency or liberty...

Do Americans prefer dependency over liberty?

How does a nation whose heritage is rooted in limited government and civil liberty come to the point of electing an enemy of liberty to its highest office? A man that says the Constitution is fundamentally flawed because it limits federal power in favor of empowering the people has no concept of liberty as understood by the Founders.

How is it that Americans think that such a man would do anything but increase their dependency on the state? Have the white socialists helped the black family? Will a black socialist do any better? American constitutionalism is about liberty not dependency.

The cause of our departure from the love of liberty and a hatred of dependency is a lack of the knowledge of God. The first thing of liberty is the expectation of self reliance in the hope of prosperity.

We are willing to face difficulty and uncertainty in the confidence of a sovereign God who has demonstrated His goodness and faithfulness.

When men resist God and are not willing to submit to His word, then discontentment with life arises from ingratitude and contempt for the blessings of God when difficulty confronts them.

In that men will give themselves up to an enemy of their liberty we see that they can be carried away by a spirit of deception, so as to inflict upon themselves the greatest evils. [Calvin]

No man can serve two masters. We must choose between liberty and dependency; between Christ and the state.

Hero of the Imbeciles
Thank you, ranger, for confirming the vast emptiness of the propagandized mind. I'm surprised you didn't bring up Plame, WMD and impeachment. But even you can figure out he doesn't need to be impeached. As I recall, Clinton made his usual poor me comments and it was covered by all the networks. I don't expect anything from the pmm so I don't watch them so it's really fine that they ignor President Bush.

As for graciousness, you and your ilk have been the divisive anti-Americans that have promoted treason over national security and emboldened idealogical dims (like BO) and terrorist enemies killing our soldiers. Take comfort in thinking that the black celebration for the wrong black somehow makes you patriotic. We real Americans will be monitoring the communist tendencies of the White House occupant waiting for 2010 and beyond. We know where the dim party is headed. We plan on giving them the same support Bush got. Let's see if this guy has more sense then he showed hanging around Wright and Ayers.

StandingHisGround
Of course the resident troll had to put in his two cents worth. He is typical of the insolent guests in the crowd today. No class, lowlifes. One woman said something degrading . Loud and clear. I saw it on a youtube video.

It is sad when a few minutes cannot be given to a president's last speech when the other channels were showing reruns of earlier showings. I am sure he did not want any special treatment, though.

I watched none of the festivities today. It is depressing to know we are making this transition. I hope I will be surprised in the long run. Nothing would make me happier. Take care.

George
I don't believe its really a matter of you taking the old man in the sky. The more serious question is whether He will take you.

Put your first faith in the state if you choose. But for me its: God--Family--Country.

Ranger
Robert: President Bush will be recorded in history as the first world leader of the past century to openly and effectively confront the greatest evil of our time--International Terrorism. And he did so without regard for the world opinion which every other leader is so quick to bow over to.

Everything that each president does hereafter to protect us from international terrorists will be done upon the foundation laid by President Bush.

For that he will be recognized as one of the greatest Presidents of all time. Your blabbling opinion notwithstanding.

Church of Barack Obama?
Anyone who watched the inauguration and the parade saw the people outnumbered the media by thousands. Were the people present also worshiping at the church of Barack Obama. It's just the inauguration and a parade. Whats the rush in getting in the first punches. Whats wrong in the people enjoying a celebration of an elected President. Obama's inaugural address had everything from history to the present, President Bush, our troops, his vision and a need for patience. Did I miss something. Regardless of the Messiah label Obama was given during the campaign trail, none of the labels was a reflection of Obama, but a guilty by association ploy to connect Obama to people of questionable character. It's apparent some people will never get over the election of a black man to be President.

Inauguration
Today was a tremndous, historical day. It was also a day that we will never forget.
That being said, President Obama would have been better off not giving an inaugural address. It was without inspiration and downright depressing. I don't feel confidence or hope right now, which is sad because that's what we need at this time in the country...if only for a day.
Reverand Lowery, who truly has seen it all, was the highlight of the day - until he stated that he wants Whites to get it right. Talk about a blow to the stomach!
In his inauguration speech and other speeches today, President Obama mentioned his father (who, in my business is refered to as a 'Deadbeat' for abandoning his wife and son), but never once mentioned the three people who raised him, nurtured him, kept him in school and off the streets, and made him the man he is today. That spoke volumes about him as a man and as a President.
Martin Luther King was my hero. His dream was to go forward andrid ourselves of grievances and hatred. President Obama, however, continues to look backward, while laying blame on individuals who weren't alive forty years ago. I guess forgiveness is out of the question - and White people will always be the enemy. Sad. So sad.

Things forgatten about Obama
I have couple of problems with Obama and some of the ideas his followers...

1. Why are not we talk about the fact that Obama is not black. His mother was white, his grandma who raised him was white, Obama never experienced a black household, and most importantly why he did not praise his white mother? He was mentioning his loser father from Kenya, who left him behind with all the burden his white mother and grandmother has bared.

2. What change is he talking about? 'We need to pick ourselves up??? I have been working nothing less than 60 hes per week and cannot work more, even with a baby in the house. Who needs to change? Well, people who have never worked and they think its now might be time to get off the couch watching Oprah, and get a job, that's the change needs to happen, so our tax dollars will not go supporting them..

3. At last, why touch taxes and print money, anyone can do that? How about something more original, without cutting dry the hard working professional class?

Good luck Mr. President, and bring the change to ones who really need it.

OBAMA, LINCOLN & THE IMAGE OF GREATNESS
Authentically great men have no need for the symbols, imagery, style and legacies of other great men. True greatness is original, innovative, genuine and real and needs no models to imitate. Who did Lincoln imitate in his presidential campaign, or in the period leading up to his inauguration? Whose Bible did he use to swear him in as President? Who did the Roosevelts imitate and ape? Who was Kennedy's model? Who did Reagan emulate? Answer: No one. These men were among the great ones of history and walked in no one's shadow. Even George Bush as he rose to power drew strength from his principles, convictions and ideals, and little from his predecessors. But not Barack Obama. Never in the history of presidential politics, never in a campaign or in the pre-inaugural stage, has a candidate or President-elect leaned so heavily on the great men of the past. Why has Obama been doing this? Is it simply out of reverence for these men? Is he paying homage to them? Is that the reason? Or is it because of his deficiencies? Is it because he's just a conventional liberal politician with a dash of charisma and a bit of charm but with no exceptional qualities? With little intellectual and moral worth? A mediocre man with the gift of gab but with no real greatness in him? Who desperately wants to appear great and will settle for its image over the reality and the qualities that go with it?

BAH HUM BUG
I had hope, I was amazed everyone seemed to be united. I am a citizen who has lost her job to the financial crisis, has lost a son to the war in Iraq, mentally, has lost health care benefits for a husband who is on chemo. My income is below poverty, and I had hope and for one instant I believed we were on the right path. All this negativity shame on all of you who do not want a better way, shame on all of you who do not want to commit to change and be a part of your community shame on all of you. Obviously none of you are financialy, in my position, sadly to say I have probably done more than any of you to contribute to change in the past year than all of your 36 replies of discust put together.

Obama
I don't care, he is not my president! At 66 I'm beginning to feel like an illegal in a foreign country.

Obama vs. the Real World
Judit and Sunny focused on something in President Obama's life that is really significant in my opinion. The president refers to his father, an alcoholic, a bigamist, and a wife deserter but does not mention his white mother and grandparents who raised him. He seems to have created a myth in his own mind about his father that has no relation to the actual facts of his life.

In effect, we have elected a leader who is the product of a broken family, which is symbolic of the many broken African American families in this country--the real national tragedy that has kept many such families in poverty and despair.

The question I have is if President Obama can't really face the reality of his deserter father how can he analyze the serious problems facing our country and devise appropriate solutions?

He has been dealing with illusions all his life but now he, and all Americans, must face the world as it really is. If this orphan of reality is not up to the task we face a very bad future.

Inaugeration
While it was historic to watch the transition of power, I was sad to see President Bush leave office. What ingratitude was shown to him in his final moments as President. Who of us think we could have done a better job in keeping the country safe from terrorist attacks? President Bush prefers to focus on the positives of his administration as well he should. That is the measure of the man who showed confidence in trying times, belief in a Heavenly Father during difficult days and still showed graciousness to those who continually tried to knock him down.

It's easy for President Obama to say he could do better. Let's just hope he can, but not with divisiveness and not with socialist idealogies. Whatever happened to the rights of the unborn? Our constitution will greatly be changed unless we speak out when our values are at risk. Thank goodness the founders of this nation thought about the Checks and Balances of power...we'll need it in the years ahead. For now, we must pray that God will show us with wisdom why this administration was elected.

REASON FOR OBAMA'S LACK OF PASSION
"You will notice the lack of passion and vigor in Obama's poor speech. Indeed, the man who impatiently and enthusiastically ran for the presidency, who raised hopes to the sky and promised national and world change, has lost much of his fire now that he's there; now that he sees the enormity of the task, the cross he must bear he fears it will crush him and that he will fail. The new President who spoke today isn't rising to the occassion as his ignorance and inexperience are now overtaking him."

You misunderstand us. We do want change. Are you so self-centered that you don't realize a lot of people are struggling in this economy? Do you think we LIKE the mortage/auto/stock market/gas price fiascos going on in this country???

The difference between you and us is that we are not waiting around for someone else to come and bail us out. We realize that solutions do not come from government. Government assistance cripples people: it keeps them from actually learning how to work, how to save, how to do without certain pleasures of life when the money can't afford it.

You misinterpret our skeptism of government solutions for apathy. Such is not the case. Get over your own little pity-party...the sooner you do, the sooner you can start taking control of your own life.

This was a revolution. This was a total repudiation of fundamentalist conservatism. Yesterday, well over a million people took to the streets of DC demanding our country back. You and your ilk represent a small and declining minority. The simple fact is that you will compromise or you will be ignored and continue to decline. The choice is yours.

Inauguration
I simply could not bring myself to watch the Hussein love-fest yesterday. I didn't want to throw up my lunch. So, during the coronation of our new Ruler, I went to Wal-Mart.

The Glorious Leader has now been President for almost 20 hours. Has he healed the planet? Do we still have enemies who wish to destroy us? Has he made all of the countries of the world love us? No, he hasn't. What's he waiting for? We were led to believe that as soon as he became President all of the ills of the world would go away. Why doesn't he wave his hands or speak the word and miraculously "change" the world? Because he really isn't a messiah. He's just another flawed, fallible human, only he and his sycophants believed all the hype from the Chris Matthews' and Keith Olberdorks of the world that he was somehow beyond all the rest of us.

The misunderstood
James I am Uplifted that I have misunderstood the comments of the day. This having been said, I have no governmant help, Thank the good Lord that I have not waited for the Government to bail me out. I may have lost a house, and alot of my savings my self confidence but I have not given up or given in. I am on a good path, and certainly no of the trials and tribulations of sacrificing certain pleasures of life. And thank God I am in control, and if it were not for My God keeping his eye on me I would not be as proud to be an American As I am. And I believe in hope unity and the pursuit of happiness.

Regarding what you said yesterday on John Hawkins' thread about how routine it would be for the Secret Service to arrest a former POTUS if the World Court indicted him:

What, were there a lot of weed smokers there in Washington DC today filling the air with the emissions from their wacky terbacky - and addling the brains (as if those of many in attendance today could become even MORE addled than they ALREADY were when they LEFT for the occasion) of all those in attendance, such as YOURS?

Let me see if I have this straight: let's say tomorrow the World Court issues an indictment for George Bush on war crimes. Since a Secret Service detachment will ALREADY be deployed around George Bush regardless of wherever he is by virtue of the fact that as an ex-president he enjoys lifetime Secret Service protection, are you going to tell me that - without orders from higher authority - they're going to blithely snap the cuffs on Bush and peddle him onto an airplane for the flight to The Hague as just a "simple administrative procedure done every day"? Is THAT what you're trying to tell me?

And are you trying to tell me that if Barack Obama gave such an order to do so, the American people would just blithely accept this as nothing more routine than any other arrest warrant that might be routinely issued and then carried out by any typical American court - and not bring their feeling about it into the political realm, especially in the voting booth? Is THAT what you're trying to tell me?

If you ever decide to leave Scranton, you should move to John Conyers' congressional district in Michigan: he sounds like your kind of guy.

We must not think bad thoughts
Several have asked why BHO acknowledged his deadbeat African dad and not the Caucasian mom and grandparents who actually raised him.

The answer: Because Obama with two white parents is John Edwards. Simple as that.

Inaugeration
While it was historic to watch the transition of power, I was sad to see President Bush leave office. What ingratitude was shown to him in his final moments as President. ...."

The man earned it. In due time people will patiently work to get the man in the dock at the Hague... But that can wait; for now we must start to repair and rebuild the nation.

"... but not with divisiveness and not with socialist idealogies. Whatever happened to the rights of the unborn?..."

No one wants "socialism" the vast majority want responsible government the same as the government of the founders. The divisiveness is your call; compromise or stay on the dustbin of history

Stands
The foreign governments would probably recoil at arresting Bush, but there are a few of Bush's buddies that really may think twice before going, like Addington, John Yoo, and Gonzo. They did break the law and tried to hide their activity.

"Sands warned in a June 2008 Fresh Air interview that the impact of the Bush administration's conduct would be felt internationally: "The terrible tragedy of these memos and that dark period is that they have migrated into the hands of people who now say, 'Well, Americans do it. We're going to do it also.'"

Regarding what you said yesterday on John Hawkins' thread about how routine it would be for the Secret Service to arrest a former POTUS if the World Court indicted him:

.... Let me see if I have this straight: let's say..."

Let me say this again, no "let's say...". It will be determined by laws of the nation. No ONE is above the law especially an ex president. There must be accountability. I also said we have lots of time for that later. Now is the time to rebuild and repair the nation. If this man Bush did indeed order the torture of individuals like he said; he must at some point be prosecuted.

"... if you ever decide to leave Scranton, you should move to John Conyers' congressional district in Michigan: he sounds like your kind of guy."

After yesterday I am thinking of moving to DC, now that the atmosphere is cleaned up

Normally I don't respond to left-wing hacks, but I couldn't let you get by with this statistical misinterpretation...

How are conservatives a "small and shrinking minority" when just under half of the vote in November didn't go for the Messiah Obama? In my mind, a "small minority" wouldn't get anywhere near 50%. Please don't forget that The One only got 52% of the vote...hardly an overwhelming or large majority.

Please choose your words more carefully lest you reveal yourself to be foolish...oops, too late.

LMAO do you think votes represent "true believers"? No, they do not. Extreme conservatives at this point at best, are those who approve of the failed president Bush's performance which is about 20% of the population.

Obama's Speech
"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent.....". Was he referring to the Democrat Party? The Fairness Doctrine, which they want to resurect, and the House Rules, as changed by Nancy Pelosi, are but two examples of the utter hypocrisy of Obama and his cult!

Tom
The kind of math you disputed in Hal Donahue's statement typifies the average liberal's mathematical proficiency. That's why Obama could make the kind of campaign promises he did about what he would do on the economy - and his voters fall for it without questioning its economic feasibility. THEY can't do the math, either.

Move to D.C. By all means. Live in Anacostia. The Obama wand has been waved and crime and ill intent has been wiped from the face of the kingdom. Make sure you get a place with a view of the river. If you get bored you can count the corpses floating by.

Sorry Jack
Alexander's poem was banal and thoroughly lacking in poetic grace.
I've read better poems written by high school students.
She obviously got her job due to affirmative action.
I fear Obama's taste in politics is no better than his taste in poetry.

Sunny CO & Jersey Vet
Sunny you're so right about the Rev Lowery and his prayer asking God to make ole whitey finally get it right being a very low blow on a day supposedly all about bringing this nation together. The lib press will never say a word about this crapolla just as it never cared one whit about Barack's 23 year membership, and financial aide for an avowedly racist "church."

Jerseyvet you are spot on about Barack's idolization of his deadbeat dad. How does a man take his identity from the father he never knew and reject any connection with those who raised him without becoming a chameleon whose only goal in life is to be more black than those raised in the ghetto? Does this man have any core moral values or is he one who does what comes easy and never ever go against the flow (other than supporting Muslims). Are all moral choices "beyond his pay grade"?

Being a compadre to radicals, communists, terrorists, weed smokers, crack triers and left wing nuts during Barack's college days shows someone who only wanted to part of the hip crowd! Have we elected a leader or an orator whose only accomplishment so far is to make people feel good about something called "change" which all can interpret for themselves?

As for me and my house...
When people seek a human king--they may get it (for a season), but MY KING IS KING JESUS!

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Jesus Christ)!

"The man has stopped our nuclear/missle budget and has said finding Bin Ladin (the man responsible for 9/11 is not a priority just like building our nuclear capability when Russia is strengthening it's missle capability."

Since the US has 4,000 active nuclear weapons does it really need more? Yes the Russians have 5000, but should the US add 1000 to equal that number? Isn't 4,000 enough to pretty much wipe out Russia and plenty left over for the rest of the world? The US missile assets today are quite capable of hitting any target on the planet. It would be much wiser to spend defense funds on assets the US is likely to need and use and these don't include nuclear weapons on the tip of ICBMs or SLBMs.

As for not finding Bin Laden, Bush said the exact same thing when he was unable to locate him.

Muriel
"Who of us think we could have done a better job in keeping the country safe from terrorist attacks?"

Well. I for one would know that if Desert Storm took 600,000+, you couldn't invade all of Iraq and secure the country with only half that. I'd know there was no evidence that people would be throwing roses and candy at the US troops. I'd know that there was no evidence the US could transform it or the region into pluralistic democracies--I thought Developmentalism died after the diaster in Vietnam--seems not to be the case with Bush. Memo to Bushites--elections do not equal democary and in Afghanistan the pro-west government only controls 1/3 of the country and would fall in days if not for NATO forces there. One NATO commander saying, there is no prospect for a military victory in Iraq--NATO can only manage the situation-meaning keeping Kabul and the immediate area around it from falling--the rest of Afghanistan, the Taliban move and operate at will.

I'd also know that letting the Iraqi Army melt away was not a good idea. I'd know that not securing the borders was not a good idea. I'd know that letting order break down and riots and looting every place was a bad idea. I'd know that securing only the Oil Ministry would give credence to the idea that this was a war for oil. I'd also know that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and the the two terrorist organizations in Iraq--the MEK and PKK had nothing to do with 9/11 and invading Iraq was a bad idea--a number of his father's advisors stated that it was a bad idea as well--e.g. Brent Scowcroft.

But Bush listened to fools like Paul Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Richard Perle and the rest of the war party brain trust and what you have now is a party in shambles that will take years if not decades to repair.

If you are a liberal Democrat, yes, thanks George Bush. You gave us what no liberal could do since 1964. If you aren't though, there is little to thank him for.

"As Obama skrinks down IN size Bush's stature will grow."

Well, since Bush is at rock bottom--only place to go is up. Obama can hardly do worse than Bush. The economy will improve--in spite of what he does--he will get the credit, he will be re-elected in a real landslide this time. 2016 looks grim for the GOP too. Lucky for the GOP the nominee will probably be Biden--at least in that there is hope.

Jag on Obama's self identity
First off the idea that Obama's self identity should depend on what you or anyone else thinks is paternalistic in the extreme.

But it does raise an interesting question. Henry Gates genetic research at Harvard reveals that on average American blacks are 20% caucasian. On a personal note my identical twin was part of a similar project in Texas which found that we have a 26% caucasian imprint.

How then would you have me describe myself in terms of race?

Andrea:
I don't think Obama is the anti-Christ, but I have heard him referred to as the Messiah and also as a "prophet."

I wish I was joking, but I'm not.

JUST ANOTHER PRETTY SPEECH

with pretty platitudes. Nothing memorable except the kickoff for the 2012 campaign.

After the speech we'd had enough and went to see the movie, Grand Torino. I'd rather watch Clint Eastwood because he is not just all talk.

Obombo, the ventriloquist's dummy

Saul Alinsky, the immensely influential far-left ideologue who invented the role of grass-roots ‘community organiser’ that Obama filled for so many years, laid out in his book Rules for Radicals that the revolution could only be brought about by stealth politics.

This is what he wrote: ‘This is the job for today’s radical - to fan the embers of hopelessness into a flame to fight. To say, ‘You cannot turn away - look at it - let us change it together!’ ‘Look at us. We are your children. Let us not abandon each other for then we are all lost. Together we can change it for what we want...it is a job first of bringing hope and doing what every organiser must do with all people, all classes, places and times - communicate the means or tactics whereby the people can feel that they have the power to do this and that and on..."

We are listening to Alinsky's protege. BHO is not smart, or talented, or gifted; he is programmed.

BO's and M O's finesse...
After a few short words by the media this morning, the women on TV began discussing the fashion of MO's designed clothes, thinking, I feel sure, that we would all want to follow the leader. Ad who will profit by that? Maybe it will make some people richer, but not me. However, I must admit wondering while she was walking in the parade and standing on the steps how she was keeping warm in the freezing weather, but WHY oh WHY must we always have to be "dressed" (and really, "undressed") by the media, who want everything their way? And then, when I saw the gowns the other women (not MO's) were wearing at the inaugural dance (?), it seemed every one was black, and, OF COURSE, split deeply at the front to show the amount of endowment of their upper story!

Well, we oldies will have to wait and see if the change that has been promised will rob us of whatever we have left and which we had "squirreled away" in the hope that we could make it until the grave would keep us from paying taxes.

B. Hussein....
..., the ultimate "twofer".

Large businesss have commonly hired black females to supervisory or management positions in order to satisfy the two hiring demands of the perpetually grieving left: a female and a black. It keeps the whining classes silent, and damage to the company minimized by not having to pay the extra employee.

Now comes B. Hussein. To a leftist, he's the ultimate twofer, the supreme cute black puppy to be adored and nurtured, and someone to show others how kind and loving they are. To most blacks, he is and always will be a god. Ninety five percent of that population ALWAYS goes for the emotion and style over substance. Drive through any chocolate city and you'll see the results of liberal black leadership all around you. Just keep your doors locked.

The late black mayor of Detroit, "King" Coleman Young, was openly racist, and as corrupt as his impulses demanded. He was the Robert Mugabe of Michigan as he started that town's quick slide into third-world status, but to this day, blacks lionize this pathological character as a god.

Expect obama to be allowed to screw up anything and know that he will still be adored, excused, or that responsibility for his bad decisions will be displaced. He's a half-black kid in an adult position which is a joy any liberal, along with being someone to worship for the hopelessly or willfully ignorant.

The ultimate twofer is now our prez.

Does any adult...
...really believe that a liberal will admit a mistake? That would take character, and the virtues of sound character are kryptonite to any liberal.

When B. Hussein's sophomoric positions and edicts start to do their damage, there will not be a liberal in the country that will openly admit they were wrong in their choice of supporting the kids' candidate.

All together now, "it's Bush's fault".

I bother to help. I just guess The best thing about it is this. If you just sit back and wait, the real racists, like the "pro from Dover", will out thmselves. Folk on liberal sites still tend to hide their racism. On TH, it's a damned badge of honor.

I suggest all you right wing hacks read Buchanan's recent article, where he describes a demographic future almost devoid of conservatives. The facts are incontrovertible. While there may be a few isolated counter examples, virtually all conservatives are white Christians.

Conservatives will never garner a meaningful number of black, Hispanic or other minority votes until they drum the racists and the racism from their party.

If you never figure out even this basic reality, I will watch with delight as your numbers get smaller and smaller.

Good Article
Keep up the good reporting Mr. Thomas.
For those of you who voted for this Obama man and have kneeled and kissed his feet. "It's coming, and You asked for it". So don't want to hear any flack against what he does.
To those of you who didn't vote for him and still believe in the constitution of the country, Hunker down and prepare for the worst.
It is coming, down and dirty.

What part of my posts were racist?

Pointing out a culture's values and beliefs isn't racist. Now go ahead and let me know.

Bad times three
Obama's speech was lackluster, mundane, disappointing, and poorly-delivered.

Lowery's prayer was an insult to all thinking Americans.

Alexander's poem was a piece of garbage. Why is she getting tax dollars from the NEA? (I assume it's because she is incapable of holding a real job.)

Now let's sit back and enjoy four years of deficit-spending, hyperinflation, terrorist attacks, increased abortions, union price-gouging, long lines at the doctor's office, and welfare for the masses...

I disagree
He was passionate about government being the answer to all of our problems. He was passionate about being a socialist. His answers are to spend money we don't have to people who don't even pay taxes. I will not be persuaded by liberal arguments that we can't criticize Obama. Bull. I think we should emulate the liberals who have slandered Bush since before he was elected the first time to President, and continue to bad mouth him. They said repeatedly, daily, that Bush was stupid. I think any current president that says we can spend our way out of a depression and the subsequent inflation is stupid; too stupid to be president. Restart the liberal mantra.

He was passionate about government being the answer to all of our problems. .."

Obama's speech:

For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate.

Moron
I happen to have a very strong science background, I don't know any reputable scientist who says there isn't global warming. Even your beloved George Bush finally had to admit it, I think the people in upper Alaska would disagree, some of their houses are sliding into the Artic Ocean, where they use to be on a few feet of ice at the least, it has now melted to a few inches. Take a look at the artic ice cap from a satellite photo, what do you call the ice cap shrinking every year? As for his passion, maybe it was more of a speech than defined the mission ahead, instead of one that was inspiring us to the mission ahead. He is an intelligent person, and knew this was the right moment, when the whole world was watching, when he knew it was the right time to get Americans to start doing the hard work that is going to be needed. There is no time for stupid childish arguments, there is just enough time to reverse the downward spiral if we act now, and that is what he is trying to accomplish, actually tackling the big problems. Unlike Bush who either said they didn't exist, or waited until they became a crisis to do anything.

Consensus does not equal truth
Actually the tide has turned re: global warming, and consensus does not equal truth, as we can see in history. If anyone has any kind of strong science degree, they would know that. Thousands of scientists all over the world agree there is no man made global warming, it is not doing it now, and the earth has always gone through cycles. Think people: If it was so bad, Obama would have down sized the party on Tuesday, which equaled over 57,000 carbon footprints for each American. Didn't hear any calls for toning it down did you? Oh, I guess that is only for us to sacrifice, not him or Gore. Over 600 private planes and limousines. The internet inventor Gore will only make money with his Carbon Credit business if he can keep duping dopes that only believe what they are told. My four year old grandson can debunk Gore's movie. As you notice, when people can't debate, they call people names, such as stupid childish. Wake up folks.

Global Warming -- No Consensus ?!?
Very disappointing to see such unsupported contentions: "There is no consensus about global warming."

Where did you get this "fact" from Cal?? I did a quick google search -- just entered "global warming" and got several hits from news article this month (January 2009) citing a recent study in which 97% of climatologists surveyed agreed that the globe is warming and that the warming is attributable to human activity.
