Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Should anyone remain at the real end of history to chronicle a list of humanity's worst systems for the benefit of any left to read it, the legacy of communism is sure to be at, or near, the top.

That's why it is especially appropriate that in Washington, D.C., this week a Victims of Communism Memorial will be dedicated.

With the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the quick collapse of the Soviet Union, many embraced the idea that the world had become free, or was headed in freedom's direction. That one-quarter of the world population remained under communist dictatorship in China seemed of less concern than the dissolution of Soviet Russia. The Tiananmen Square Massacre in June of 1989 reminded the West that communism was as deadly to those who opposed it in China as it had been in the Soviet Union. But the West's attention span is short and soon American companies were happy to do business with China because our commitment to the bottom line is stronger than it is to the moral line.

Lee Edwards, the chairman of The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOCMF), has attracted bipartisan support for the memorial, including Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) and Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.), who are offering remarks at the dedication. It comes on the 20th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's Berlin speech during which he famously said, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall."

The brutality of communism was quickly swept under history's rug, in large part because so many on the left had embraced it as the solution to humankind's problems. The memorial stands as a rebuke to such twisted thinking.

"The Black Book of Communism: Crimes, Terror, Repression" by Stephane Courtois, Nicolas Werth, Jean-Louis Panne, Andrzej Paczkowski, Karel Bartosek and Jean-Louis Margolin lists by country the number of people murdered under communist regimes: 65 million (and counting) in China; 20 million in the Soviet Union, 2 million (and counting) in North Korea, 2 million in Cambodia, 1.7 million in Africa, 1.5 million in Afghanistan, 1 million in Vietnam, 1 million in communist Eastern Europe and 150,000 in Latin America.

In short, communism, an evil ideology unlike any the world has seen, is responsible for the slaughter of more than 94 million human beings. It tops all plagues, natural disasters, crime, and other political ideologies, probably combined.

The VOCMF provided some quotes that remind us of the individual human cost of communism. Anhthu Lu is a Vietnamese-American, who escaped his communist nation as one of the "boat people." He says, "There is no hope for a better tomorrow under communism. One can only hope to survive the daily rounds of communist shelling, or explosion into the villages, the schools, the markets. That is how I remember my childhood, one filled with fears, with destruction and deaths. That is what communism is all about: terror, destruction, retribution."

When he visited Stalin's "paradise," the French leftist writer Andre Gide said: "I doubt that in any country of the world, even Hitler's Germany, is thought less free, more bowed down, more terrorized."

Chinese philosopher Lin Yutang spoke of the "little terrors" of China: making 12-year-old children subject to capital punishment, sending women to work in underground coal mines, harassing workers during their lunchtime with threats of prison - or worse - if they are late returning to work.

While many Westerners recall Nazi-run death camps like Auschwitz and Buchenwald, few remember Soviet death camps named Kolyma and Magadan. True, Alexandr Solzhenitsyn mentioned them in "The Gulag Archipelago" as did Varlam Sjalamov in "Tales from Kolyma," but as the late Swedish journalist Andres Kung wrote, "There are people who have still not heard of these communist extermination camps - even though the communists preceded the Nazis in creating such camps and killed an even larger number of people in their camps."

While the memorial is a welcome reminder of man's capacity to do evil, one wishes that a similar structure were erected to remind the world of leftist academics, clergy and journalists who enabled communism to survive by writing and speaking lies about its true nature. They were more than enablers. They were co-conspirators and accessories to murder. They, too, deserve to share in communism's ignominy.

Jane Fonda, John Kerry et al
and other traitors like most of the Democratic Party belong in this memorial as well. America should never forget how they countenanced Communism and gave it credence by betraying America and giving aid and comfort to our Communist enemies that led the way to Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge that murdered over 1.1 million innocent souls, a human sacrifice to the Communist God of the Democratic Party - satan himself. As long as we're having monuments to Evil, what about the 40 million absolutely 100% innocent lives that have been aborted courtesy of today's Democratic Party - satan's henchmen?
It is the Left's modern-day Holocaust under Capitalism and free democracy no less - how ironic?!? How ironic is it that we have allowed the Left to interpret freedom in a democracy to mean one has the freedom to commit murder of the most innocent among us??? I long for the grand glorious day when the American People have had enough of the evil Liberal insanity in DC and recognize it for what it is - a gospel out of the pit of Hell. In that grand glorious day, there will be a monument to the countless American troops and the 40 million aborted infants who were sacrificed on the altar of the wantonly evil and treasonous lust for power of the Democratic Party, which will have long since been outlawed in the nation just as the Communist Party was outlawed during the Cold War.

Many of those 'enablers' are still alive
while their pawns (like above) continue to spout the nonsense.
All regimes MUST have rulers. One president or a counsel makes no difference. Those rulers MUST be protected and live much better than the rest of the population. You call them tyrants, the rest of us know they are trying to fufill the "promise" of communism. Does it matter?

The more power - more corruption. And, remember, SOMEONE HAS TO HAVE SOME POWER. And, the higher you go, the more power until:

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Because no matter HOW great the system, SOME will NOT LIKE IT. And may even seek to overthrow it... Witness our own Liberal/Democrat party...

First time for everything
I'm a left-wing academic, and I agree with Cal Thomas (my brain will be doing loop-the-loops over that one all night). Like everyone else, I remember seeing the Tiananmmen Square crackdown, and years later, I went to China in college and learned all about the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. In college, I had a good friend who was Peruvian and told me everything about the Shining Path movement, quite possibly the most brutal rebel movement South America has ever seen. When I joined the Peace Corps, I was sent to Ukraine, and for the first time, heard about the devastating famine there in the 20s, not one caused by crop failure, it was Stalin's little way of keeping the natives in line. The list just goes on and on.

> There's never been

Because it's unrealistic for starters. Secondly, and if my knowledge is correct, he believed atheism should be the official state belief system. So much for freedom of thought.

> All we've seen is totalitarianism.
> Cal and the rest of the dissemblers already
> know that.

Because that is what Marxist revolutions amount to. When the proletariat get the power, they become reluctant to let it go.

> And Hitler was an ANTI-COMMUNIST who
> murdered a few.

12 million total, I believe. Yeah, not too many.

> God, Cal, do you think everyone who does not
> march lockstep with Jesus Christ can't see
> through your infantile propoganda?

I'll have to tell that to my anti-communist/pro-conservative athiest friends. Besides, he stated historical FACTS. I'd like to know where the propaganda is. What part of his editorial lacked veracity?

Steve's comments
No need to look very far to verify Ann Coulter's Liberals who can't reason, call names. What difference does it make what Cal looks like, it's what he says that Steve neither likes nor can argue.

Killers
The organization responsible for the most unnecessary deaths is not international communism. It is the EPA. In the early '70s, when William Ruckelshaus was the first head of the agency, he imposed a ban on DDT, despite studies by his own scientific staff that showed it was not dangerous. He was and is a perfectly nice man who would not hurt a fly (or a mosquito), and his reasoning is not entirely clear. He had however been active in the new environmental movement, so an obvious factor was that approving DDT would discredit Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring," which was the environmentalist bible.

Thank God that the WHO has finally reversed the ban on DDT. Perhaps now we can stop the scourge of malaria from slaughtering millions every year.

Hey TH
Yesterday I asked if the administrators at TH could consolidate John Konop's posts in totality so we could enjoy them at our leisure.

Ditto Steve's.

If you want to find out why socialism -- the watered down version of communism -- does not work, move to Canada. I don't mean visit Canada; you can't find out anything about the grinding depression of living under socialsm until you live under it every day. The only thing that saves people from utter despair is the magic phrase "I'll get it in the States." When I was living in Buffalo and visiting Canada on weekends, the bus drivers used to say Welcome to Canada, set your watch back twenty years. Well it's at thirty years and counting now, and that's what socialism does to people. Canadians are so apathetic that they wait in the washroom for someone from the government to come and wipe their bums. The country is essentially lawless, because nobody will stir a stump to hit a lick at a snake -- just sit where they are and whine that TheGovernmentShouldDoSomething.

Last weekend I discovered after I got into the subway station next door to the largest grocery store downtown that the access to the trains had been blocked off and the only way to get to the trains was down two flights of stairs. Since I had a cart with 40 lb. of groceries in it, I asked the government minions who were stationed at the bottom of the escalator why a sign could not be put at the top warning people about this. I received the Universal Canadian Reply: shrugged shoulders with hands spread wide. One of the minions offered to help me carry the cart down the two flights, then asked "Is it heavy? I don't want to hurt my back!"" I replied, "Yes it is heavy and NEITHER DO I!" Eventually it took four of us to carry this cart down those stairs. And it could all be solved with a sign at the top saying "If you have a heavy cart, go across the street and take the escalator down."

But no. Socialists can only follow orders. If they don't get the order, there's nothing they can do. All they do is trudge in herds where they are told to go, do as little as they can while there, and trudge home when the clock says 5:00. And they never thought of thinking for themselves at all. That is the Government's job.

As granny would have said, it's enough to make the Virgin Mary drink gin from the cat dish.

Hollywood, the ACLU, the Democrat party (though a few are NAZIs), the NEA, the MSM, & some RINOs (to name a few).

Monument To Murder
Way to go AudiR10. I've been a government employee (Law Enforcement and Historian), city and federal in the US, for over 29 years, and since the requirement to take a test geared toward ones education and experience was removed in the mid 70's (certain people coulldn't pass the test's), most government employees are uneducated/under educated, and unqualified/underqualified. What the US government needs to do is fire 1/2 of all Admirals, Generals, Colonels, Lt. Colonels, Majore, SES's, GS-15's, 14's, 13's and 12's, and make the other half work. By the way, Buchen wald was not a "death camp." If looks are a qualifying criteria (Steve writes), Hillary (the Hildabeast) hasn't a chance.

On the thoughts of Boo-boo
"There's never There's never been
anything close to pure Marxism."

You obviously need to read Marx because it's too obvious that you have not. Marx called for revolutionary-minded people to accelerate history by seizing all governmental institutions and factories in the name of the proletariat, all as a first step to realizing a true communist millennium. So far, each and every communist regime has been quite ruthlessly good at seizing everything in site, and let the devil take the hindmost. You are just squeamish about the means that stealing people's hard-earned property requires, including mass-murder. Most communists would sneer at your naiveté.

"All we've seen is totalitarianism."
Not true either. England, Sweden, and Canada have either taken or took the "soft" approach toward socialism/communism, and the difference between them and Soviet Russian, is the difference between being killed slowly versus being killed quickly.

"...Hitler was an ANTI-COMMUNIST who
murdered a few."

Ahem. Adolf Hitler was the head of the National SOCIALIST Party. The German communists were very instrumental in putting the Nazis into power, and it was Joe Stalin's green light which made the invasion of Poland in 1939 a reality. 'Nuff said!

"God, Cal, do you think everyone who does not march lockstep with Jesus Christ can't see through your infantile propaganda?"

If the complete ignorance of history constitutes the ability to "see through" people's arguments, then newborn infants must be the most insightful critical thinkers on Earth. The trouble is, infants are incapable of making any kind of a coherent counter-argument to anything. Come to think of it, the "insight-with-incoherence" is the a PERFECT description of our "Ideological Purist," isn't it?

Good article,
Mr. Thomas. You know, it's sad that we even need to be reminded of the true, sinister nature of Communism. But that's what allowing historical revisionism will get you.
Anyway, thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'll be sure to visit this monument next month when I head up to Washington, DC.

Neocons vs. Socialists:
Neocons vs. Socialists: What is the Difference?

Do you think Wang Hui is right to compare the New Left alliance with the neoconservatives? Don’t both support “fantasy projects” like democracy in Iraq using the same (misguided) logic that leads them to conclude that U.S. support of (abusive) trade deals with China will someday create Democracy in China?

NYTIMES-Co-editor of China’s leading intellectual journal, Dushu (Reading), and the author of a four-volume history of Chinese thought, Wang Hui spoke about how market reforms have widened the gap between rich and poor in China.

Many of its local officials, he said, used their arbitrary power to become successful entrepreneurs at the expense of the rural populations they were meant to serve and joined up with real estate speculators to seize collectively owned land from peasants. (According to Chinese officials, 60 percent of land acquisitions are illegal.) The result has been an alliance of elite political and commercial interests, Wang said, that recalls similar alliances in the United States and many East Asian countries.

Despite his invocation of socialist principles, Wang was quick to tell me that he dislikes the New Left label, even though he has used it himself. “Intellectuals reacted against ‘leftism’ in the 80’s, blaming it for all of China’s problems,” he said, “and right-wing radicals use the words ‘New Left’ to discredit us, make us look like remnants from the Maoist days.” Wang also doesn’t care to be identified with the radical intellectuals of the 60’s in America and Europe, to whom the term New Left was originally applied. Many of them, he said, had passion and slogans but very little practical politics, and not surprisingly, more than a few ended up with the neoconservatives, supporting “fantasy projects” like democracy in Iraq.

Neoconservatism’s deadly influence

This is the best article I have read to describe what the Neoconservative agenda is about. Do you think they have destroyed the conservative movement? Do you think this is why NEOCON President Bush has expanded governement more than any other in our history?

FREELIBERTY-Neoconservatism’s most prominent adherent wants it to be linked to Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal socialism and, because of its rejection of “isolationism,” to be further identified as a champion of meddling in the affairs of other nations. The opposite of isolationism, of course, is interventionism, a tactic favored by all neoconservatives. Earlier, in 1983, Kristol claimed that “a conservative welfare state is perfectly consistent with the neoconservative perspective.” Old-line conservatives would justly label the phrase “conservative welfare state” a classic oxymoron. By 1993, in a piece he authored for the Wall Street Journal, the Godfather lauded Social Security, Medicare, food stamps, and Medicaid, even a cash allowance for the children of unwed mothers. Virtually any socialist program can count on support from the neoconservative camp.

As for interventionist meddling, neoconservative Charles Krauthammer candidly presented the movement’s attitude in a 1989 article appearing in Kristol’s journal, The National Interest. Boldly calling for the integration of the United States, Europe, and Japan, he yearned for a “super-sovereign” state that would be “economically, culturally, and politically hegemonic in the world.” Not satisfied with such a novel creation, he further urged a “new universalism [which] would require the conscious depreciation not only of American sovereignty but of the notion of sovereignty in general.” And he added: “This is not as outrageous as it sounds.” Maybe not to a neoconservative, but a real conservative and especially a constitutionalist wouldn’t hesitate for a moment in labeling such ideas “outrageous.”

China: We Are Socialists!
This has been my point, we expect a Communist China to play by free market civilized principals. China has made it clear they will play under their rules and socialist system unless we stand up and play hard ball. Do you think the American economy can afford not to demand that China follow civilized rules of trade?

Beijing (FORTUNE) – Senior U.S. officials, led by Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, arrived inside the Stalinist-style Great Hall of the People Thursday morning, briefed and breakfasted and eager to offer guidance to Chinese leaders on how to become a “responsible stakeholder” in the global economy

According to the English translation of her remarks, she repeated six times that China was “sticking to” its “new path of industrialization,” and three times that China was “continuing to improve” on reforms already in place. Substantial free-market change wasn’t part of the equation. “By following a path of building socialism with Chinese characteristics in an independent and self-reliant manner,” she said, “we have scored glorious achievements that attracted worldwide attention.”

At debate is China not playing by the rules of the trade agreement.

CNN-But Paulson said earlier this week China could and should do more to reduce its massive trade surplus and revalue its currency. And a WTO report released Monday complained bitterly about continued rampant counterfeiting and piracy, policies limiting imports and regulatory barriers to U.S. service companies

“We see troubling indications that China’s momentum toward reform has begun to slow,” US Trade Representative Susan Schwab, a participant in this week’s meeting, wrote in the Financial Times.

Canadian Socialism
My story: I was hunting waterfowl in Saskatchewan and I had taken my shotgun into Canada (legally). I ran out of #6 shot and went into town to buy some shells. Shells were sold at Canadian Tire, At the shell counter I pointed to the 12ga #6 shells I wanted to buy. The clerk behind the counter called for the keeper of the key to the display case.I was not allowed to touch the shells, the shells were locked in a canvas carrying bag by a special clerk( not the keeper of the display case key) hired to do that function. This special clerk carried the shells to the check out counter where he unlocked the bag and removed the shells. The check out clerk entered the price into the register and I paid the check out clerk. The clerk that brought the shells in the locked bag then handed me my paid for shells and I departed the store. Whole transaction took more than 30 minutes. Socialism is great. It only took 4 people to sell me a box of shells.

booboolane@10:22 AM
What exactly does your post have to do with the fact that Communism is a political system perpetuated/sustained by brutal mass-murder?

Communism
Communist "hangers on" always try to say Communism did not fail, it was a leadership failure. Communism was never properly implemented. Rubbish--Communism is a failed ideology. All the death figures cited in Cal Thomas' article are far short of the actual numbers killed. In Russia the figure is nearer 40 million than 20 million, Kaganovich--Stalin's favorite Jewish murdering henchman was responsible for killing 14.5 million Ukrainians during his forced famine. Yagoda, Jewish head of the Secret Police in Leningrad, is credited with killing 1/4 of Leningrad's population. Yagoda's actions and tactics are spoken of in Solzhenitsyn's book the "Gulag Archipelago". It is not a far reach to lay all the Communist deaths at the feet of Marx and Engels, both Jews, and authors of the "Communist Manifesto" the ideological book of the Communist movement. Many Jews are to be mourned because of the German Holocaust but far more Russians are to be mourned because of the Jewish actions taken to support Lenin and Stalin in the murder of millions of Russians. Not to be overlooked is the burning of 40,000 Christian churches in Russian in pursuit of an atheist Communist utopia.

Slippery Slope
Mr. Thomas is, of course, right to condemn "leftist academics, clergy and journalists who enabled communism to survive by writing and speaking lies about its true nature." But he is wrong to single them out when the real issue is people being duped by---or accessories to---totalitarianism or poltical fanaticism in any form. In the 1930s, there were plenty of people on the right, in both the United States and Britain, who wanted to paint Hitler and Mussolini as creative leaders with useful ideas worthy of consideration. And, in the past several years, there have been plenty of people on the right in the United States who have failed to raise alarms as the Bush administration has pushed through a whole array of policies that we formerly associated only with the kind of execrable regimes we opposed---torture, warrantless wiretapping, holding prisoners without charges or due process, and ignoring the clear intent of laws passed by Congress.

That's how we go down the slippery slope, folks, either from the right or the left---turning a blind eye to the despicable people who tell us that it is all necessary because we need their special "protection" from some evil threat, either external or internal. The specific threat may indeed be real, but it does not justify responses reminiscent of either Stalin or a Hitler. Remember that wise observation by Benjamin Franklin that people who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.

disinginuous
Mr Thomas is ignoring almost 2000 years of genocide and conquest by christians and muslims who were trying to spread their religions throughout the world. The wiped out whole civilizations without a fraction of the technology that communists have/had.

AudiR10
Canada doesn't deserve you. MOVE SOUTH ASAP!

I have a question:

Can anyone tell me why it is LIBERAL MILLIONAIRES that are the BIGGEST fans of Communism?

disinginuous
DA misrepresents the 2000 yrs where Muslims and Communists used war to take over other nations. Christians used to war to defend themselves from the Communists and Muslims.

Schaden-Frey-de
It's bemusing to read Frey's comments and realize how many Americans have, indeed, never learned in a classroom or through the news about the terror inflicted by Mao's Great Leap Forward, or the purges in Ukraine in the 1920s, or the vicious career of Sendero Luminoso.

What's bemusing is that there was plenty of information available on all these horrors, and more, at the time they were actually occurring. Frey himself obviously was not among the leftist academics who literally pooh-poohed the reports of them. But many, many leftist academics did, in fact, deny that they were happening. (I sat in classes with these professors, and read their summary dismissals of "right-wing demagoguery" about the excesses of communist dictators in the academic press. The widespread nature of this phenomenon was very real.)

The news media were mostly silent on these topics, only occasionally acknowledging that Marxist regimes had had some problems of anti-liberalism "in the past." The information was all there, from indigenous reporting as well as Western journalists and researchers, but the determination to highlight and focus on it animated very few in the mainstream media or politics.

I remember being literally made fun of in college classrooms for bringing up the well-documented purges, incarcerations, and mass murders perpetrated by communist leaders in the Soviet Union, China, Angola, Cambodia, etc.

It is gratifying to see a memorial to those who suffered under them. Read The Black Book of Communism (written by leftist academics, believe it or not), if you are among those who didn't know about all this.

And remember, the number of those who were killed in this way is unknown, and will always be unknown. At best we have estimates, which range from the 94 million cited here to as many as 150 million. The world didn't do head counts as effectively in the 1910s through the 1960s as it does today, and none of the Marxist purges was executed with anything like the comprehensive accounting practices favored by Nazi Germany.

Tell you what DA,
instead of bleating your anti-religious rhetoric in defense of communism's murderous policies, why don't you take action like these folks did? IOW- if you're so enamored with collectivism, despite the fact that its an obviously flawed philosophy, why don't you try to get a pro-communist monument created?

Nothing Close to Pure Marxism?
Whomever believes repression is not a part of Marxism evidently has not read Marx and/or Engels.

Both of these guys make it overtly clear that without "revolutionary violence" (i. e. repression) Marxism is a powerless ideology, an Utopia.

Marxists understand clearly that no one is going to willingly hand over their capital?

(Well except for a few guilty white men but they are pretty much the universal exception)

It is violence carried out by the "proletarians" which turns Marxism into a real political force.

That is why Marxists in the "pacifist phase" substitute real discourse with personal attacks.

That is why "non violent" Marxist seek the total discredit and political anhiliation of its political opponents.

For a Marxist you are never someone who dissents but an enemy that needs to be render powerless.

That is why Marxists do not allow even the smallest deviations from correct thought, correct language, correct action. In our country these are called; "multiculturalism" and "Political Correctness."

That is why disssenters are always; racist, bigots, reactionary, homophobes, first and foremost.

Both of these political tools are nothing but subversive instruments to restrict freedom.

Forbidden words.

Forbidden thoughts.

Forbidden actions.

It starts there.

That is why Marxist don't want to be identified as such. Too many people will correctly associate them with Lenin and Stalin. They prefer labels as liberal or, progressive.

Euro-communism may be less overtly bloody than Soviet-ideology but its ultimate goal is still to impose some sort of hegemonic collectivism where no-one would be allowed to go its own way.

These days, instead of talking about "working conditions" as the main reason for inevitable change, Marxist prefer to use the environment as the main determinative cause to legitimize their absolute power but nonetheless; they are still claiming that absolute power is their entitlement.

Marxism, except for the post-industrial material conditions, is no different than slavery. There is an intelectually superior 'nomenklatur,' or elite, which regiments the individual behavior of the rest. From how they move around to where are they allowed to smoke.

HA!

good ol boy
I was a 91B when I first joined the Army 16 years ago. I am now in a much smaller mos and I don't speak about religion or politics while working in my position and will not list my current mos.

I am opposed to all totalitarian regimes. Currently, those tend to be either communist or islamic. Historically, most christian nations had been totalitarian also. I do not believe that most Americans are aware of our own bloody history and the history of Europe and how we are responsible for wiping out many cultures to get to where we are today.

Some why's
DYERGE: Excellent post.
GEORGETWIN: Why are pro-communists invariably leftist millionaires? Good Question!!!!
I can only think it's because under socialism/communism they assume they would be part of the elite class.

Others just don't have a clue what communism REALLY looks like when put in practice.
Why is it not taught in schools how these regimes take power? How many innocents are executed and imprisoned? How people are silenced by torture, by threat not just to them but their families? It's not taught or talked about because then people might think socialism is a bad thing. Instead, Che Guevara is revered as a hero instead of the murderous thug that he was. Fidel Castro is thought a benign president instead of the brutal thug that he is. How many school kids know that Stalin was every bit as evil as Hitler? How many college students know that no totalitarian regime ever rose without slaughter?

Sounds so good on paper tho...which is why academia is so rife with pro-communists: many there have never actually lived outside the womb, and are therefore confined to what sounds good on paper.

"Others just don't have a clue what communism REALLY looks like when put in practice.
Why is it not taught in schools how these regimes take power? How many innocents are executed and imprisoned? How people are silenced by torture, by threat not just to them but their families? It's not taught or talked about because then people might think socialism is a bad thing. "

Why? Because more would wake up to the reality that this is exactly where our country is being taken, right now.

Heavy Cart
It really took four of you to carry forty pounds plus cart?

For AudiR10
I guess Canada's socialism was the reason so many people went to US on TN-1, and then dared to upgrade it to Green Card.

Of course, I'm one of the abovementioned--and am now a dual Canuck-Yank.

Liberty:
Exactly.

booboo
Just curious: are you living in the US, or in a communist country? If not in a communist country, why not?

booboolane
Your comments are consistent which is very important in identifying who you are and the depth of your understanding. You are a Communist and that makes you a thief. No Communist can exist without stealing the wages of the people the system is purporting to help. Karl Marx was motivated by two desires: He wanted immortality and the path to that( in accordance with his religious doctrine) is service to his fellow man. How best to provide something to your fellow man than to use other people's money, hence his rationalization for forced Communism. His second problem was his own poverty and slovenly attitude toward work. Marx was pleased to devise a way for others to be forcefully required to support him and provide a living circumstance while supporting his Socialist agenda with handouts. I muse he must have thought: "I'll sit on my a*s, write my tripe, and take money from these fools to buy my way into life everlasting". How does that sound booboolane; maybe you have heard those words yourself spoken into your mirror.

Clear the Haze
These words are interchangeable: Liberal/Progressive/ Socialist/ Communist. The Congressional Progressive Caucus is a listing of self professed Communist in our government. That list contains roughly 60 names. There are 43 Jews in our Congress and at least 90% of those are either professed Liberals or Socialist. Democrats control both Houses of Congress and at least 65% of all Democrats are professed Liberals/Progressives/or Socialist. The Congressional Black Caucus (43 members) 95% profess to support Socialist programs.
For 50 years we sent troops to foreign lands to protect us against Communism--we were leaning the wrong way in our foxholes. They were and are here in our midst occupying seats in ever increasing numbers in our Congress..

Rich Commies
I think there are two reasons for rich commies.!.They feel guilty about their money. However they will not share it in the socialist manner.2.They feel that if their nation becomes socialist they will have enough money to buy off the commie officials

Absolutely excellent.

Trent beat me to it
"You obviously need to read Marx because it's too obvious that you have not. Most communists would sneer at your naiveté."

Marxism is a blueprint for leading a society from capitalism to pure Communism. The steps are: violent revolution, dictatorship of the proletariat, pure Communism. In the last phase the state has been abolished and mankind shares all resources equally.

"Communism" thus has two textbook definitions: a synonym for overall Marxism, and the last stage of Marxist evolution.

Pure communism (second definition) has never existed, because of a pesky factor that Marx never took into account: human nature. People vested with absolute power rarely give it up, and the least likely to give it up are the ones most attracted to work for dictatorial governments.

booboo (hat tip sun)
Yeah, that's right - communism's killed only 100 million - give it a chance! Submit to slavery or die!

That's how lib/socialist communists solve social problems - they simply eliminate the non-essential and the trouble makers.

Isn't that how L. Graham proposed dealing with amnesty opponents - 'we'll tell the bigots to shut up'.

Warrior
Many of those legislators probably weren't socialists when they entered politics but could clearly see that their power was enhanced by ganging up with that crowd and becoming so. Why be a citizen legislator accountable to your constituency, when you can be an unaccountable socialist despot or a fascist?

hey boo boo
why don't you go live in utopian North Korea with the Dear Leader Kim Jong-Il (just don't sy anything he doesn't agree with, or you will be doomed)

And don't forget to take a lot of food with you, or else you will be eating grass with the locals.

your argument is beyond pathetic

and one more thing, boo boo
Utopian North Korea is also a place where people are crushed with steam rollers for professing faith in Christ.

How's that for freedom?

But at least in America (unlike North Korea), we have a Bill of Rights which guarantees the right to speak one's mind without fear of retribution from the government. We are free to worship Jehovah God, not the State. We have the right to be free from unreasonable searches, soldiers taking up residence in our homes, the right to remain silent.

You need to get a serious clue.

and boo boo
Your arguments are just plain evil.

You are blind to it.

Communism & darwinism & terrorism...

‘While the memorial is a welcome reminder of man's capacity to do evil, one wishes that a similar structure were erected to remind the world of leftist academics, clergy and journalists who enabled communism to survive by writing and speaking lies about its true nature. They were more than enablers. They were co-conspirators and accessories to murder. They, too, deserve to share in communism's ignominy.’ –Cal Thomas

Mr. Thomas, thank you for coming out so clearly against communism. We foresee a time in the future when you will write against darwinism with the same passion.

Darwin legitimized violence by claiming that humans are, in essence, animals struggling for life.

Most people think the theory of evolution was first proposed by Charles Darwin, and rests on scientific evidence, observations and experiments. However, in the same way that Darwin was not its originator, neither does the theory rest on scientific proof. The theory consists of an adaptation to nature of an ancient dogma called materialist philosophy. Although it is backed up by no scientific evidence, the theory is blindly supported in the name of materialist philosophy.

This fanaticism has resulted in many of disasters. That is because together with the spread of Darwinism and the materialist philosophy it supports, the answer to the question 'What is a human being?' has changed. People who used to answer: 'Human beings were created by God and have to live according to the morality He teaches' have now begun to think that 'Man came into being by chance, and is an animal who developed with the fight for survival.'

There is a heavy price to pay for this great deception. Violent ideologies such as racism, fascism and communism, and many other cruel world views based on conflict have all drawn strength from this deception.

This article will examine this disaster Darwinism has brought to the world and reveal its connection with terrorism, one of the most important global problems of our time.

For the kind words, you are welcome - for awhile there, I thought I had offended your carefully constructed emotional state.

BTW, JC proposed that people be generous to others with their own property. He didn't go around robbing people so that he could give it away in order to make himself a name and feel important. Get the difference - or wasn't He so generous with you when brains were handed out?

Socialism & Communism
There are various brands of Marxist socialism.

Marx and Engels "invented" socialism. It was to be an interim form of government culminating in a classless/stateless egalitarian society called Communism.

Communism has never existed; it's pure theory. Don't confuse it with Hillary Clinton's communitarianism (It Takes a Village) which attempts to recreate the socialist utopias of the early 1800's and the 1960's.

Stalin had Ukranian villagers rounded up and shipped north in railroad cars. Arriving at the Arctic circle, the train stopped and the "passengers" were unloaded. There was no town or village there. The train then simply left.

That's the kind of socialism that Kerry, Reid, Clinton and many (about 15%) ordinary Americans want to inflict on all of us.

WHY do you live in PA?

I believe that you like your freedom of speech - why else would you stay here?

I believe that you like to eat - why else would you stay here? Ain't much food in North Korea...

I believe that you like freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures - why else would you stay here? They ain't gonna ship you off to the Mojave desert here in the US of A...

I believe that you like your freedom to come and go as you please - can't do that in Cuba, China, Vietnam, North Korea, Laos...

I believe that you like your freedom of religion - to worship the State with your whole heart, soul, mind and strength...

Your living in the United States of America exposes your blatant hypocrisy.

God help you (the State surely won't).

"JC was the first commie whose extremism outdid Marx by 1000 miles."

If you mean Jesus, then tell me where in the Bible he promoted armed revolution and the overthrow of private commerce. My translations (KJV, NIV) says he promoted private charity, not forced redistribution. Also, the only New Testament condemnation of riches is directed at those earned through some means other than free markets - eminent domain abuse (http://bible.cc/mark/12-40.htm) and the tax collection system whereby collectors got their incomes by extorting above the tax rate owed to Caesar.

If Christianity regarded capitalism as such an evil, you'd think that Paul woudl have deemed it crucial to record whether the first documented European convert had renounced her capitalism (http://bible.cc/acts/16-14.htm).

Audi, if you don't like Canada, move!
I just love how conservatives take huge leaps of logic until a democratic freedom-loving country like Canada is somehow equated with the Stalinist Soviet Union or China that Cal T was talking about. But you guys brand everything the slightest bit more progressive as "socialist", and hence headed down the totalitarian path of Marxist communism. Well I have news for you: Canada is just as free and democratic as the U.S., and private property and free enterprise are still cherished - a far cry from real socialism, where the gov't. owns all property and business.

I have relatives and friends who live in Canada, and let me assure you Canadians are FAR from being depressed, apathetic or in despair about their country as you suggest. They love their country and most are happy with its policies, including universal health care coverage - if they didn't they'd vote it down. By contrast most are glad they DON'T live in the States under a fool of a conservative president like Bush.

When it comes to UHC, for example, they appreciate not having to fill out all the stupid insurance forms or having an HMO deny them coverage. And when I needed to see a doctor there, I was able to see him right away without any paperwork or waiting to line up my insurance coverage. Canadian health care is run more efficiently than American's, taking only ~10 - 15% of their GDP compared with America's 20+%. Any problems there are with their system pales compared to all the hassles, lack of coverages by weaseling HMOs, and the millions of working Americans unable to afford any health insurance (not to mention those wiped out by the costs of catastrophic illness).

Lawless?? That doesn't even make sense, because the arguments against liberalism or socialism are that there are too many laws! Most Canadians ARE more law-abiding than Americans, with much lower crime rates, especially with gun-related crime, which like most other countries is correlated to their stricter hand-gun control.

Your story about the subway train is laughable: did it really take FOUR of you to carry your 40 lbs. of groceries?? I'd be THANKFUL Canada was "socialist" enough that there WERE 3 public workers there who assisted you. Try finding THEM in any subway in an American city!

Most Canadians are GLAD they live in Canada rather than under one of the most despised presidents, Bush, that we've ever had. Canada's more progressive economy is doing better than ours, with our dollar now shrinking compared to theirs. OUR country is the one most despised by nations world-wide now, mostly because of Bush's right-wing policies, including ignoring the global warming crisis for years, and esp. the dishonestly-initiated, foolish and disastrous war a Republican prez got us into and now can't get us out.

But if you don't like Canada, Audi, then for goodness sake why don't you move back here?
