Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

It’s been a while now since the election took place, but it’s still not easy for me to come to grips with it. Strangely enough, I slept okay the night I learned that Barack Obama had defeated John McCain. It was only when I awoke and realized that Sen. Obama would soon be President Obama that the nightmare began. I truly felt overcome with grief, the kind you feel when a loved one dies. In this case, the loved one was America.

I have been listening to conservative commentators on radio trying to put a good face on it. At times, they’ve sounded like they’re angling for the same White House dinner invitations they got from George Bush. But perhaps they’re just hoping if they do enough kissing up, they can somehow dissuade the Democrats from passing the misnamed Fairness Doctrine. I think they might as well expect that Al Gore and Robert Kennedy, Jr., will acknowledge that global warming has been a gargantuan hoax.

Liberals, after all, never admit their mistakes, never take responsibility for, say, destroying public education or taking an axe to the black family structure. But, then, liberals never take responsibility for anything. If they did, they’d be conservatives.

I know that a lot of Republicans are busy playing the blame game. Some, myself included, are pointing fingers at John McCain for running the lamest presidential campaign in memory. Others, not I, are pointing at Sarah Palin, while a few are singling out Mike Huckabee, suggesting that if he had dropped out when he should have, Mitt Romney would have won the primaries, thus preventing McCain from getting to do his dead-on impression of Michael Dukakis.

Some people simply blame the economy for Obama’s victory. They may be right, but I’d prefer not to believe that a sizable number of Americans think that electing a Socialist is a really clever way to solve a financial crisis.

Many of my friends and colleagues are already looking to 2012, vowing to learn from the mistakes of this campaign. Perhaps in four years, I’ll find a reason to share their optimism, but, frankly, I doubt it. When I look at the election numbers, I see no reason to believe that things will improve by then. After all, in spite of hearing how brilliant, how inspiring, how charismatic -- and how I hate hearing that word applied to a politician! -- Obama is, he’s the same guy whose friends, wife and religious mentor, combined with his nearly blank resume, should have kept him in the Illinois state legislature with all the other Chicago-based grifters.

The numbers, I’m afraid, tell the tale. When it came to young voters, 69% went for Obama; Jews, 78%; blacks, 96%; Catholics, 54%; Hispanics, 67%; females, 56%; 90% of Muslims. When you factor in birth rates, I’m not sure that in 2012, Republicans will get more votes than Libertarians.

Looking back, I think the left-wing cancer took root in the 1960s and the funeral took place on November 4th. That’s why I’m having a really hard time putting up with people who are so darn jubilant about Obama’s victory. To me, it’s as if they’re dancing on America’s grave.

I know that a lot of people will regard me as a racist for being so depressed over the election result. I am probably the least racist person in America. As I’ve always said, people who hate others because of their race, religion or national origin, are just plain lazy. After all, once you get to really know people, there are always better reasons than that for despising them.

Besides, it does no good to deny being a racist. Once you have to deny it, you’ve already been labeled. But I have to ask, if Hillary Clinton had been elected president and I had been upset about it, would I be branded a misogynist? The fact is, I would have been less upset if she had been elected. But that’s only because I only object to her politics and her voice. Her circle does not include the likes of Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, Father Pfleger, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Louis Farrakhan and Rashid Khalidi. Aside from Hillary Clinton’s colleagues in the Senate, her only questionable associate is Bill.

Now that American conservatives have become an endangered species, I’m wondering if Obama and his gang of compassionate liberals will give us the same consideration they give polar bears and snail darters.

One of my friends wondered how it could be that I wasn’t thrilled to see millions of black people, including Jesse Jackson and all of Kenya, in rapture over Obama’s victory. I told him it’s one thing for Obama to garner 96% of the black vote when he’s running against a Republican such as John McCain, but quite another when he got 91% of the vote in the primaries when he was running against a liberal such as Sen. Clinton. That, to me, reeks of racism, and I see no reason to celebrate it.

I went on to say that it often seems to me that it’s only conservatives who ever took to heart Martin Luther King’s fervent wish that we all learn to judge our fellow men by their character and not by the color of their skin.

I concluded by telling him that he had every reason to be ecstatic that a man who shared his politics was elected, but that Obama’s color shouldn’t enter into it, and that if I and many like me were disgruntled about the election, it had nothing to do with Obama’s pigmentation, everything to do with his character and his leftist agenda. We elected a president, after all, the leader of the free world, not a prom king.

If there is one bright spot in all this, it’s that I won’t have to spend the next four years listening to John McCain begin every sentence with “My friends.” The sad truth is, I pick my friends far more wisely than we pick our candidates or, for that matter, our presidents.

Agreed, but more so
Burt, as bad as you make it sound, I fear it is worse.

lets see where to start
if you can't see the reason to be proud of the United States of America electing a black man president when blacks were slaves a little over 150 years ago and only got the right to vote 50 years ago, you are lost.

you may not be racist but i have never seen anyone who hates liberals as much as you do.

maybe its like a reformed smoker.
you were once a liberal by your own admission and maybe like that reformed smoker, just the smell of a liberal makes you irrational.

and your statements and views about liberals do border on the irrational.

by the way, i have had some of my posts removed from your thread, particularly the one where you returned and called me a moron.

come on burt, don't censor me and stooping to common insults is unprofessional.

that reaction says much about your thought process and character.

defeat me on the battlefield of ideas, don't rely on censorship and insults to carry the day.

Christianlib (oxymoron)
Why on earth should anyone be proud that 96% of one race voted for their own race?

Now hurry up, label me as a racist.

By the way, I got my front teeth knocked out defending a black man when I took on 3 thugs. I also infiltrated the white supremacist movement in Hayden Lake, Idaho, when they were leaning towards violence.

Racism is racism. Got it?

Burt, Burt, Burt
You might not consider yourself a racist, but your thinking is sure ridiculus. You don't have to be excited about President Barack Obama. As you indicated in your statistics, there are enough of us who are excited and are very confident in our selection of President. By the way you are right, we will al be back in force in 2012.....

Hello again, Twin
How right you are, how sad it is. I, a "racist white". would have voted for Clarence Thomas or Thomas Sowell in a New York heartbeat. These are two brilliant men who happen to be black. To become enamored of a black man who offers no wisdom or experience, has a debatable background, and a rather unconstitutional outlook on our government (in spite of being a constitutional scholar and professor) is the shallowest thinking I've seen in my life. Am I bitter over Obama's election....no. I am, however truly concerned over his effect on our country.

THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you Burt for pointing out the obvious about the recent "race" race that resulted in the least-prepared, most liberal candidate with the thinnest resume to ever be elected president of our country. I share your pain about the dismal future we are facing for the next four years as we march toward socialism.

The fact that Obama was even the DNC candidate in this election is due to the fact that racism is rampant in our country. The Dems threw Hillary under the bus because race trumps gender whenever white guilt rears its ugly head. Although we are reassured by some that electing this monster will bring an end to cries of racism in the U.S., I fear that every criticism that is lodged against Obama in the next 4 years will be attributed to racism. The Obot media will continue their crusade of protection, and journalistic integrity will remain an elusive memory in the MSM. I try to maintain optimism that the downturn in the economy will preclude The One from causing as much harm to our country as he might otherwise have been capable of.

God help us all!

Please!
This was a good article until you felt the need to prove you’re not a racist. Is that how it’s going to be for the next four years? Are we going to have to start every criticism of BO with a disclaimer? On the other hand, will his supporters be expected to offer evidence that they’re not Godless Socialist who see the constitution as a hindrance to their radical agenda. Will they be asked to defend their support of partial birth abortion? There is nothing positive about this election. If anything, it merely shows how low we’ve sunk as a people.

Outa Here

Before I go to bed I probably should add a clarification before other readers might have a fit. In an above comment to “Christianlib” I added in parentheses “oxymoron”.

I stand by that. Jesus Christ + anything (good works, church membership, clean living, etc.) adds something to the equation of Christianity that in fact nullifies it. In the context of taking the Christian label for one’s self and trying to attach a special political identity with it (be it liberalism or conservatism), proves that the person doesn’t understand the essential basics of salvation by grace through faith.

That said, it would be mighty hard for a dedicated liberal to reconcile many of his or her political leanings with the Scriptures, less difficult for conservatives. But then, by being a liberal this also implies that Scriptural teachings are taken to be mushy enough that you can believe what you want to believe as long as your feelings stand the test of personal satisfaction. That is exceptionally dangerous ground.

I could go on, but those of you who understand do not need persuasion, and those of you who disagree are probably not here to have your minds changed.

Outa here for the night…

Quickly though: Juseff, if you haven't read it already please do read Clarence Thomas's book "My Grandfather's Son." Excellent.

And Susan, we do indeed need His help.

The Reasons Obama Won
1. He is not a Republican
2. He's not a Clinton
3. He's African-American

Nothing else mattered in this election.

The Writer Comes By
Christianlib: Stop yammering about my censoring you. I have already stated that I do not monitor the string. Believe it or not, but I would have no reason to lie about it. The question you have never answered is how it is that, as worthless as you consider my commentary, you feel obliged to read my articles every Monday and Friday. I don't even read Ann Coulter that regularly and she's a lot more entertaining than you.

Bob: I'm delighted that you liked the article until the part where I denied being a racist. Frankly, I thought that was one of the most entertaining parts of the article.

Tinya: I appreciate your giving me permission not to be excited about Obama's election. My question to you is, would you be this excited if your new president was exactly like Barack Obama except that he was a white man? If your answer is no, I'm afraid you're a racist.

Regards, Burt Prelutsky

Conned by 'Obama' a Snake Oil Salesman

Barack Obama has never held a job - unless you consider 'Organizing Communities for Communists' a job.

Barack Obama has 'ZERO' executive experience - he has never even run a lemonade stand.

Barack Obama was elected President of Harvard Law Review but published 'NOTHING".

Barack Obama was an Illinois Senator 1996-2004 - voted 'Present' 129 times.

Barack Obama never authored and brought to vote ONE BILL of his own. You know, the stuff, senators are supposed to do. Not just show up and vote 'present'.

Barack Obama, as a US Senator logged 143 days of which he accomplished 'NOTHING'.

Barack Obama name the most significant thing you have ever done? uhh umm er uh

Barack Obama could not even run his own camaign - David Axelrod did.

Liberals are bragging about being 'Conned' - how funny!

Michael J. Fox's character to Michael Douglas (the president) in the movie The American President.

“People want leadership, Mr. President, and in the absence of genuine leadership, they'll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand.”

To Chainsaw,
Thanks, buddy, I have read Clarence Thomas's book My Grandfather's Son, and I concur....it was excellent.

What a Guy -> Obama-Messiah

Barack Obama has never run a city, never run a state, never run a business, never led a military unit, never led people in crisis and never even led a parade as far as I can find.

Barack Obama never even led his own campaign, David Axelrod did.

Barack Obama 'WAS' mentored by Communist Frank Marshall Davis and 'Black Separatist' Jeremiah Wright.

The problem is that after 23 years of 'Mentoring' and spiritual guidance Barack Obama had 'NO IDEA' what Mentor Wright had taught him or what Mentor Wright believed in.

Barack Obama will be involved in 'On The Job Training' in 2009 and his advisers will have the difficult task of training him in a short time, unless Obama was lying about Mentor Wright which is probable.

The Obama 'Current Truth' (subject to change) is that he will tax America into prosperity.

Winston Churchill said: "We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle."

What a guy, this Obama-Messiah!

It's the downward turning point
Burt is right. Demographics is destiny. Beginning with Jimmy Carter and his Dept. of Education, liberals took over the school system and brainwashed the kids in political correctness and anti-Americanism, stopped teaching history and civics, and these kids are now growing up and voting liberal, while their wiser elders grow ever more few. That, along with the unchecked influx of illegals, tells the story of the future. All civilizations fall. Ours is just starting down now. This is the beginning of the end. I didn't think it would be so soon, but I suppose there were Romans who said the same thing toward the end.

Hi Burt
You are not alone in your mourning for our country. Many of us are having a difficult time accepting this fraud as our president.

So why don't you come over to my blog and "Vote Your Dog Choice", a little humor I am trying to do to help us all in this time of bereavement. You might like some of the dog choices chosen by some bloggers. There are quite a variety of breeds from which to choose. And, I know you love dogs.

As I say in my article, what else is there to do while waiting for a nuke to hit us?

http://pepperhawkfarm.blogtownhall.com/

From the heart
This column borders on a classic. I feel much the same about the election results as Burt. I like the line "once you get to really know people, there are always better reasons than [race, religion, or nationality] that for despising them." Now that we are getting to really know them well, I see the truth in that. But I wish I could just stay lazy and happy about such matters involving people who are different. The alternative is our current direction, which is to eventually walk into major squabbling and a lot of unhappiness up ahead around the bend.

Maybe one way to avoid the unhappiness, and keep what we have had, is to dig up a true authentic copy of BHO's certificate of birth, which would contain verifiable informatin, rather than the abbreviated type of birth certificate that Hawaii gave to most everyone who claimed Hawaiian birth in 1962. Maybe another is his citizenship status from living in Indonesia. Maybe a coherent, comprehensive
life story of BHO would be good, too, put together before his hopefully to be cancelled inaugration, so we citizens can all get to really know him well, and despise him for the trash we know he is, rather than the messianic image of himself he is selling us.

I know that for a lot of good Americans, this would make their day.

Republicans Lost Due To An Idiot
The reasons Obama won are several, but primarily it was due to the so-called banking crisis brought on by the Democrats. The majority of the people have no idea it was the Democrats and CRA that caused this failure because they only get their news from the big 3 networks and print newspapers, all who are in the tank for the socialist Democrats. These news media drones gave out only the Dem talking points which were the non-existent “deregulation” and Wall Street greed. Add in that the inept McCain campaign failed to attack them on this and get his message out and you have it. Indeed, McCain tried to out-liberal Obama by buying into the Wall Street greed meme.

The other reason Obama won IS that a significant portion of the population wants socialism. We are at a point now where 40% of the population pays no income tax and has some type of income from the government. Of course they are going to vote in more socialism since they do not have to pay for it. This is the reason the Dems get near 50% EVERY election.

The last, and another significant thing, is that a good portion of the conservative base stayed at home. This was a repeat of 2006.

And you are right, if the Republicans continue to run liberal candidates soon they will be on the same order as the Green party.

Christianlib: Answer me this
Would you have voted for McCain if he was black and Obama white?

Would you be proud of an America with a black President Bush?

I'm doubled over with laughter!....
If you look up Burts Bio on Townhall, it mentions that this guy is a "humor columnist"...I mean, you're kidding me, right?...Did everyone else get the punchline?..Your column is sooo uplifting and entertaining and downright funny!?!..Burt, you're right...It's definitely "Mourning in America" for your era...First off, we get the "I'm the least racist person" mantra right before going into 1000 words on..uh...RACE!...Better still, Old Burt mentions all the "millions of Black people" and "all of Kenya" who celebrated Obama's win. Burt. You've got to turn the channel from Fox news once in a while. There were millions of AMERICANS celebrating Obama's election (Chicago, Times Square, Universities everywhere). There were also celebrations in Europe, Indonesia and Obama,Japan!...Hey, that's OK Burt. We know that by calling this a Black celebration, you're definitely "not a racist"...Of course, one can only imagine what you would write if you were one. Burt, you're just too funny!

Burt
Great article!
I have my moments of mourning for the lost souls who voted for him, and more so for the people closest to me who I beleived knew better, but now can be counted among the lost. My heart bleeds for them, my soul weeps for the goats who where pretending to be sheep.

My mourning is brief and is replaced with joy and peace in knowing that Pres. Obama was selected for a reason, which has little to do with the votes humanity.

I know from scriputre he is to play a part in this beginning of the end of times.

I am praying for my perscutors, as they will perscute me for my beliefs. I mourn for them cause they no not the error of their ways.

I pray for all to see the light and to reach out to take His hand because time is running out.

I pray for the lost to repent of thier sin, and re-claim Jesus as thier Lord and Savior, Amen

yo burt.
Check out the guy's sensitivity.
Lets get Obama to rustle up the pork sausages on the BBQ, then we'll find out what sort of a guy he is.
He wouldn't dare would he?
Probably say he has an allergy.
Out with the lie detector.
Claim the fifth?
Confession?
This guy has you all foxed.
Statistics: When it came to young voters, 69% were incapable of thought processes; Jews voted 78%;because Rev Wright reminded them of their Rabbi, blacks, 96%, the only non racist block vote in the country; Catholics, 54% were suffering withdrawal symptons; Hispanics, 67% cos next time their vote will be legal; females, 56% were classified as brain dead; 90% of Muslims because they love to support the upwardly mobile cool Christian. When you factor in birth rates, amnesty for illegal immigrants and any other cute moves that Acorn can conjure up,The Republicans will be in danger of losing their deposit.
Welcome to Socialism.

An expressive column Burt
At least you express the way i feel pretty accurately. The biggest downer i see in the whole business is the low quality of the American voter. Obama's administration can hardly fail to aggrevate foolish short-sighted policies of decades. I anticipate a Carter type situation by 2012. So there is a chance of a GOP resurgence. So what? The guts and brains to get back to the values that created America just do not seem to be there. Naturally when this kind of political and economic stagnation sets in, those already comfortable do ok. Those at the bottom are guaranteed that they and their children will stay there. The frogs have chosen a stork for king. Your jubilation is natural, but misguided, Tinya. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Burt, your article is dead on
I, too, woke up the morning after Obama's victory with the strangest feelings of grief and betrayal, as it seems that more than half of the electorate-some of them friends and family--went out and willfully voted to put an end to freedom and limited government in America once and for all. I realize I sound dramatic, but that's what socialism is--really big government.

To make matters worse, to admit you're devastated risks people misunderstanding why--and perhaps thinking it has to do with something as inane as what racial group Obama identifies with.

While liberals are celebrating their chance to remake the US in their image, I am finally understanding with greater clarity the ongoing struggle for this country's soul that started just before I was born (I'm in my late 30s.) Given that paloecons are a dying breed,I'm not holding out much hope for a revival of conservatism any time soon. (And the neocons just don't seem to get it.)

Vic-Original - Consider that the GOP...
--
...lost not "because" of this or that, but deliberately (as I've always held they'd lost in '96) in order that there would not be a Republcian administration in the White House when the economic crash comes down.

Having lived through the Carter administration, I've been adherent to the doctrines of the Austrian School in political economics.

(( So is a colleague of mine, Dr. Ron Paul. ))

The prevailing Keynesian/Neo-Keynsian doctrines of that time could neither explain nor predict the "stagflation" of those times - harrowing currency inflation coupled with economic stagnation and high unemployment rates - whereas the Austrians had called it perfectly, and had theoretical models that explained the mechanism robustly.

And you'll note that Dr. Paul called *this* economic decompensation so presciently (and in such contravention of the prevailing thought and the Fed's soothing reassurances) that he was labelled a "kook" so that nobody would take him seriously.

Anybody still calling him a "kook" now? Or are we just agreeing to blot out the memory of his campaign and pretend that the Republican Party's "bipartisan" collusions with Barney Frank and Chris Dodd didn't figure humongously in the creation of this crisis?

An honest economist - by definition, an Austrian - could have told the RNC that the nation was about to smash itself into a wall.

How much more fitting could have been that the RNC engineered a "Must Lose" candidacy in 2008 centered around a former naval aviator who'd yanked the "Eject" lever in four different BuAer assets and left one more a burning wreck on the deck of the *Forrestal*?

It was time for the Republican Part to bail, Vic.

That flock of chickens coming home to roost looks rather too damn' much like a pack of feathered velociraptors.

Let them feed upon dark meat.

--

Burt...
...thank you for coming by to comment on your articles. You are the only columnist on Townhall to do so,to my knowledge, and it shows respect to the those of us who read and comment on your column.

People chose pop culture
over substance. "I want" preavailed over "we need".

At a meeting of social workers yesterday, there was concern over the drop in business and personal donations as well as grant dollars. Me oh my. And we rely so heavily upon them since the wheels of bureaucracy turn so slowly and favor some programs - some pretty ineffective ones at that- over ours! No one saw the connection between the coming Super Jimmy Carter and this relatively new situation. Yet everyone in social work knows more tax dollars do not equal better services and results, but they voted Obama because they "wanted" to and it "felt historical".

Burt

Best column I've read since the election.

Thanks for stopping by, also. Please continue to do so.

Your Friend In The Spotlight,

Thomas

Pistol (4:39 a.m. EST, Reply 22): My thoughts exactly.

America's not on life-support yet but we're sure in a hurry to get there. For traditional and conservative Americans, this election was a disaster. More than ever, we're heading in the wrong direction. Education, the news media, our entertainment culture, our ever increasing secularism, the people we elect, you name it, America's decent continues.

Eliminate Obama
"liberals never take responsibility for anything."

Isn't that the truth and Obama exemplifies that more than anyone. A classic example is when the Wright tapes surfaced which exposed Obama's own spiritual advisor and the church he occupied for 20 years. I expected Obama to be honorable and drop out of the race and ask the American people for forgiveness due to his long term affiliation with a black liberation theology church and the nutcase Wright. He took no responsibility for his actions, instead he gave us an inane speech about race where he blamed everyone else and he was somebody beyond reproach. After Obama revealed how much of a coward he was I really loathed him at that point.

I am embarrassed that this county was dumb enough to elect a megalomanic with extreme radical positions. Instead of people waving the white flag and bowing to Obama they need to fight the good fight and do whatever is necessary to get Obama out of there.

Pain
Between Bush and now Obama there will never be the America we loved again. The pain is going to be beyond scope. I too never thought our demise would come so quickly. I want to run away, but do not know where or how to run.

SJ Doc
Contrary to what you hear on the media, the economy has not “tanked” yet, the banks tanked because they were forced into making bad loans. That may cause the economy to tank in the long run, but it hasn’t happened yet. And all of that stuff that you brought on about Republicans losing on purpose is just another wild conspiracy theory. I mean, why believe the truth which is that the liberal wing of the party is normally in control when you have all these wonderful and nutty conspiracy theories to push.

This is why Ron Paul never got more than a small percentage of votes. It is sad because much of what he advocates is good stuff, but it is all overridden by bad foreign policy and a few nutty ideas.

Vic-Original
While The Democrats and CRA had a lot to do with the mortgage meltdown the bubble could not have been created without the Federal Reserve. Under a Republican administration and controlled by supposedly rational people the Fed created a huge pile of money out of thin air. This money was going to cause a bubble somewhere.

When money is created beyond that which is required by an expanding economy there will be a misallocation of capital somewhere. When the bubble caused by that misallocation bursts it is very important that the losses are taken as quickly as possible so the economy can redirect capital into productive enterprises. This is how the free market fixes it's mistakes.

The Democrats are at this moment working hard to see to it that those losses are not taken. In attempting to protect voters who have made economic errors they will guarantee the economy will not recover any time soon. This is exactly the path government took in the 1930s.

TruLib
The fed dumping money into the econmy via low interest rates along with CRA is what created the housing bubble, not what caused the loans to default and drag the banks in.

All that did was allow the practice to coninue for a longer period and mask the rot that was festering beneath the surface.

The Jewish Gamble
What astonishes me, Burt, is the 78% Jewish vote for Obama. Don't they read the newspapers and watch TV? Obama's connections with his Rev. Wright and a number of Palestinian friends and supporters, all of whom are no friends of Israel, leads one to believe that American Jews do not care about Israel. I understand also a number of Chicago Jewish politicians are staunch supporters of Obama.

It seems to me that the American Jewish people's traditional concern for the downtrodden and poor has trumped commonsense. What about the Israelis, five million surrounded by 25 million-plus Arabs, who from childhood are taught to hate them?

They put their trust in a man who has not only Muslim ties but strong ties to anti-Palestinian figures! Does this vote represent the triumph of hope over experience?

Wasn't it Milton Friedman, one of the greatest free market economists of all time, who popularized the adage "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch'?

Jewish Democrats may be the first voters to have buyers' remorse because they took a gamble on Israel's future with their support for Barack Obama.

Vic-Original - Did I say it was done...?
--
..."tanking" yet?

The worst is yet to come. "Bubble" malinvestment *must* be liquidated, and this necessarily causes economic dislocation.

See the comment of TruLib, above. Currency inflation sends an erroneous message to the entrepreneurial sector of an economy.

"Injecting liquidity" into the marketplace through the issue of fiat currency and other practices, the Federal Reserve System creates a perception of unmet economic demand much as if there were a real increase in general rates of savings -

(( all real savings - corporate and individual - are merely deferred purchasing of one kind or another, and unless currency inflation is taking place, the increase in the money stock caused by higher savings rates is an indicator that aggregate demand is high enough to make profitable certain enterprises that otherwise could not be viable ))

- and drives down interest rates. This last then "turbo-charges" the rate of entrepreneurial speculation and adventure, resulting in more and more risk being taken, and therefore more and more malinvestments to be liquidated when the expected demand does not materialize, and the crash comes.

The first signs of this crash will be seen in the most capital-intensive sectors of the economy, and - indeed - these failures are already being seen.

Look no further than Detroit. The three great Sacred Cows of the Rust Belt are moo-ing for their places at the bailout trough.

Should they be forced into bankruptcy, as common sense demands?

What, under a National Socialist (nee Democrat) presidential administration?

Unthinkable!

It will take a bit more time for the crash predicted by Dr. Paul to show at the consumer level, but not much more.

Oh, yeah. Those "nutty ideas" of his. You'll be chewing on that remark for the next couple of years, I assure you.

Vic, TruLib, Thomas
Good morning. Nice to see some thoughtful voices. The trolls have been cocka-doodle-dooing so much since the 4th its been hard to get a decent post in edgewise.I don't mind a bit the understandable jubilation some of the black folks feel about Obama. I'd have a feeling of justification and recognition if i lived in a country 80 per cent black and a Caucasion was elected. Its discouraging to believe, as i do, that he is going to be a real loser, when there are so many much more capable black folks out there, but we got what we got.

Someone mentioned that McCain was programmed to lose. I don't believe it. If this was choreographed, he would have categorically disagreed with all of the popular proposals of pie in the sky that got Obama elected. This would have opened the door for heroic conservative values to ride in like a knight on a white horse in 12. As it is, i think these opposition ideas must be stated loudly and often so conservatism IS a choice. Demo lite is a loser. I can't believe there are still CINOs pumping this bilge.

Yes the cows in Detroit
are mooing and the socialists will give it to them. Its all part of the conversion of the country to communism.

We don't need Ron Paul to tell us that.

Pistol
Good Morning. Yes, the trolls have pretty much taken over Townhall. After the first couple of hours they begin to flood the comments. I have pretty much move all I posting of to Ace of Spades who seems to do a better job of getting rid of the trolls. I have given up on TH.

Just think, in a few minutes we'll have that idiot racist Vito here. If they can't get rid of him they can't get rid of anyone.

Censorship Doctrine
(Let's call it by it's true intent). I have been unsettled since the election - listening to others (Dems/Libs) being everything from jubilant to superior for having "picked the winner" as though it was a horse race, and some - not all - of the conservative media putting up a good front ("oh, it won't be that bad! He's a centrist! He's not all that radical! We'll be back!). My main concern is that we are on the verge of a filabuster-proof majority in the Senate and then there will be nothing holding them back from passing all kinds of legislation that will cost us money, lose us rights, and change this nation so that there is no coming back in 2012. Once the voice of opposition is stamped out by the mainstream media protecting the liberal agenda, the re-institution of the so-called "Fairness" doctrine, and people rioting in the streets when their minority view is not upheld by the majority vote of the people (witness San Francisco lately), I worry that true freedom to express ourselves in a responsible manner, having all opinions heard no matter if they disagree with the government or not, will be dead. Is not freedom of speech for everyone not just those who agree with the Liberal left wing? We can survive any difficulties as a nation as long as everyone has a voice and a vote and uses both wisely. Thankfully, satellite radio will not be under the jurisdiction of the Censorship Doctrine, so if we all get that in our homes and in our cars, we will at least be able to hear opinions and discussions that will not be tolerated on the FCC regulated airwaves, once the radio stations all go to automated Top 40 since no one will be listening to their required rebuttals to every opinion. Thanks for letting me vent this long, but it hasn't helped yet - I'm still unsettled!

For a people who have demonstrated sagacity over and over, the Jews seem to have a blank spot when it comes to politics. If there is a Jewish cliche, its that they are shrewd about money and love their grandchildren. Yet there is no more vocal supporters for the Social Security Ponzi scheme than American Jews. One per cent interest and pass the cost to their grandchildren. Financial idiocy. Right up until Arafat refused the Camp Davis accords which would have given the Arabs like 96 percent of their demands and left Israel de facto defenseless, about 50 per cent of Jews in Israel blamed Israel for the Arab-Israeli wars. That event finally established the hawks as a solid majority, as even the most tortuous guilty logic could see extermination was the only outcome that would settle Arab demands. American Jews have not yet figured this out. Twas ever thus. What per cent of German Jews believed Hitler?

Burt
You and I had similar reactions to the election. I have been unable to shake the depression, and when I awoke on 5 November it was like a replay of when my Mom died. My first thought then was "Mom is gone" my first thought on 5 November was 'Obama is the President'

Since then I have been bombarded with the reality of what that exactly means to my country.

I said on another thread the other day that I mourn for the loss of my country.

Another poster told me to just leave, I wouldn't be missed.

My problem is there is nowhere else to go. America, flawed as it is, is still the last best hope for the world and I am disgusted by those who want to ruin it.

I've lived in other countries (Germany, England, Turkey)....It was always a good feeling to know that I could be there and still be an American.

Pardon me if I am skeptical of a return to Conservatism. I think this was the last pretense of a fair election. I predict the new Feurer will begin his rule, followed by his ultimate take-over of our nation.

Everybody thinks I've gone round the bend. Perhaps so, but I suspect that I am but one of several canaries in the mine.

Let's wait and watch as his civilian security corp gets organized, and as our freedom of speech is further eroded, and as he determines to remove our guns from our society.

After all, he said if the rubber met the road he would stand with the Muslims.

How long do you think it will take to totally undermine our free society into a pathetic copy of Cuba? We've already dumped the free markets for government-owned banks etc....For that I blame Everybody in Washington...but perhaps hanging is too good for Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and...oh yeah...that new guy that was heavily funded by Fannie-Mac...Obama.

Welcome to the USSA (obamanation)

Well stated, Burt
I share your despair. I find that it stems from a lack of preparedness on part for the coming "change".

I have spent most of my 62 years learning how to live in a capitalist republic. I find that now I am completely unprepared for life in a Marxist/socialist state.

Hopefully, "Socialism for Dummies" will soon be available at Barnes & Noble and I can begin getting up to speed.

The only ray of sunshine in all this, is the knowledge that our left-wing friends here at TH are going to get gouged out just like the rest of us.

Another thing
How ironic is it that the Black community has handed us a leader that will bring us all into slavery to the state?

Vic-Original - Well, you didn't need...
--
...Dr. Paul to tell you that because you didn't want to *listen* to Dr. Paul (or anybody else) trying to tell you that.

Now you want to believe that you don't need him (or anyone like him) because you still don't want to hear his solutions.

As anyone watching *House* could tell you, diagnosis defines treatment.

And you're far from sufficiently ready (read: "hammered") to accept that fact.

Too much of a strain, I think, for someone still welded to the notion that the Rockefeller Republicans are the GOP's only promise and hope rather than the source of the rot.

"[T]ry not to be too angry or disappointed with your fellow Americans. Most of them don't care about politics as much as the majority of my readers, and the education they have received about it from the government's public school system is nothing more than a septic tank full of warmed-over self-serving statist lies and leftist propaganda."

"you may not be racist but i have never seen anyone who hates liberals as much as you do."

That's only because you haven't me me!

If you think
I am one of those squishy Rockefeller Republicans you are just about as nutty as Ron Paul.

Lynn
Throw me in that chategory as well.

Thank you Burt
There are still people that are saying Barry Dunham may govern as a centrist. How is that even possible with the Mad Hatter(Reid)leading the senate, and the Queen of Hearts(Pelosi) running the house? They also have a much bigger majority now. Ugh!

Mrs. Dunham likes to call this Camelot II. No...,the better analogy is Wonderland. You know...., where down is up, and up is down.

There are a myriad of Senators and reps. who could be cast as the Dormouse.I guess my question is, who is the better choice for The White Rabbit,Dodd,Durbin, or Franks? I already know that Chuck Schumer is the Cheshire Cat.

American voters have won the roles of Tweedledee and Tweedledum , no others need apply!

Chip @3:07AM writes: "... is to dig up a

true authentic copy of BHO's certificate of birth, which would contain verifiable information,"

There are TWO separate cases in the Supreme Cout now... a we post.

At last check, Marxist Obama has until Dec. 1st to produce a valid birth cert., or a valid reason why not.

I suspect that producing what the Supreme Court as asked for would be far easier than trying to explain why he hasn't produced the birth cert., since the Supreme Court doesn't take kindly to being defied. :-)

What's most interesting, however, is that the libbies are apoplectic about this, while the Conservatives are just sitting back and waiting to see what happens.... LOL

America
is the manifestation of ideas, now established best in capitalism and conservatism. It, of necessity for freedom, requires representative govt. This means voters can abrogate the values that made and make America America. It is perfectly possible to vote oneself into extinction and the Founding Fathers knew it. Thus the Republic and measures to keep the vote from the yahoos. If our America continues its course, it may well transmogrify into something else than the shining city on a hill. This nation may fade, but the vision and ideas will not die, and will reappear somewhere, sometime. Maybe even here.

regret
My only regret is I could have wasted my vote on a third party rather than on the republican party.

Change we can Hope for
That reality will set in when the scope of the job of POTUS sets in and B.O. will 'see the light' and change from a demogogue into a patriot!

ROFLMAO

Pistol
Yep, the founding fathers provided several things to keep the proles from voting themselves bread and circuses on the federal level.

First they provided a written Constitution that would not allow that. FDR circumvented that by stacking the courts with people who decided and invented the “rubber Constitution”.

Second they provided voting for ONLY property owners who actually paid the taxes of the time. We did away with that at the local level, then amended the Constitution to eliminate a tax requirement.

Third they prohibited the income tax itself. Again, another amendment.

Fourth, the made us a Republic with little direct voting and that was only in the House which had very small districts. Again, more amendments and we have turned the House districts into big districts that now have more people than the States used to have.

Over the years since the end of the Civil War we have gradually turned the country into a democratic socialist country which will soon migrate to a single party dictatorship and communist country.

Just for fun from my blog
Here' a parody based on "Look out for Mr. Stork" from Dumbo. Original Music by Oliver Wallace; Lyrics by Ned Washington

Look out for Mr. Tax
That perservering chap
He'll come along and steal
That bundle from your lap
You may be poor or rich
It doesn't matter which
Millionaires, they lose theirs
Like the Butcher and the Baker
So look out for Mr. Tax
And let me tell you, friend
Don't try to get away
He'll find you in the end
The IRS will nail you and they will not even ask
So you'd better look out for Mr. Tax.

Look out for Mr. Tax
He's got you on his list
And when he comes around
It's useless to resist
Remember Wesley Snipes's in jail and don't you know it's true
The Tax Man has his eye on you!

The backward-looking crystal ball
It doesn't exist, ladies and gentlemen. Time to get over what we did wrong and focus on what we can do right. Republicans have allowed themselves to be cast as the scapegoats for America's failures long enough by the cultural elitists -- those illuminati who have anointed themselves with "the vision." Rubbish! They are blind. Will we continue groping in the darkness with them?

The Big Mick NAILED IT........

on Limbaugh's thread!!!

"Chairman Hussein wasn't unacceptable
because he was Black; he was unacceptable because he was RED!"

I won't tell you to cheer up, Burt
because this situation is so serious. Instead, all of us must determine to fight them "on the beaches, in the hills," but the key word is FIGHT!!! We must bring forward better ideas and continue to teach conservative principles, which you can do very well.

We have no voice in the downstream media and you can bet the lib Nazis will shut down alternative voices as soon as possible. Freedom of speech first, then they're coming for our guns and right to self defense. They've already destroyed our right to vote with their fraud and corruption of elections. How can a vile bazturd like Al Freaky Franken be elected in MN?

They can't make millions and millions of us shut our face, though, and if it means I have to leave my job and go to Washington to be heard, that's what I'll do.

I've proposed many times that we the people throw up a wall around the District of Columbia and contain these lunatics. Maybe a blockade of the beltway with trucks and cars, hundreds of thousands, even millions of bikers and Joe Sixpacks engaging in peaceful mass demonstrations on the mall could get their attention.

I've also warned for years about how the gubmint run education system (ala Bill Ayers) has turned our own children against us because they are so ignorant and clueless with no knowledge of History or how freedom and liberty works, much less what their responsibilities as a citizen are.

And now an Obamanation seeks to run EVERYTHING!!! If you like the US Post Office, public schools and the DMV, you'll love the new system.

Determined Bitter Clinger, out for now.

Right on
Thank you for expressing my sentiments exactly. I too slept calmly election night, even though I'd been full of anxiety for weeks. But sinced then, I feel like I'm going through the aftermath of a funeral of a good friend or loved one. Now I know it's my country, as you so eloquently described it.

Interestingly this week the Turner Movie Channel has been showing many movies made 1939-1945, which shows people in the grip of fighting Nazies or scared of "big brother", using an "underground" to spread the word or help each other, fear and loss, paranoia, not trusting the "media", etc., etc. I sadly realize Obama and anyone younger that voted for him have no frame of reference for the terrible state a socialist or marxist nation can have on their lives, family, freedoms, rights and personal possessions (including wages).

Vic
I admit i see no clear way out. That doesn't mean there isn't one. And what is the worst? Socialism actually favors the upper classes, the educated, the connected. Stagnation and lack of opportunity mainly prevent the folks lower on the economic totem pole from improving themselves. Even the most socialist society needs doctors, engineers, businessmen and other capable producers. Stagnation ensures that these jobs virtually become hereditary. As opportunity deteriorates and class mobility decreases, class becomes more powerful, class envy increases, and stratification becomes rigid. Born in the ghetto, die there. Welfare mother, welfare daughter. Can't be fired, never be hired. No reward for merit, nepotism is king. Women, children and the poor will be hardest hit, as the NYT likes to remind us.

I just received this email....

Fellow Business Executives:

As the CFO of this business that employees 140 people, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barrack Obama will be our next President, and
that our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way.

To compensate for these increases, I figure that the Clients will have to see an increase in our fees to them of about 8% but since we cannot increase our fees right now due to the dismal state of our economy, we will have to lay off six of our employees instead. This has really been eating at me for a while, as we believe we are family here and I didn't
know how to choose who will have to go.

So, this is what I did. I strolled thru our parking lot and found 8 Obama bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these
folks will be the first to be laid off. I can't think of a more fair way to approach this problem. These folks wanted change; I gave it to them.

If you have a better idea, let me know. -EOM-

Turning to the left, saw it coming,
Didn't see it coming so fast. Liberals will say the eagle has a left and right wing which is needs to fly, but I expect to see the left wing start to self mutilate its right wing. Your description of the Dems can be summarized as their being narcissistic which is what I been saying. They appeal to people who see their problems as being outside of themselves, seeing themselves as victims with an entitlement belief that someone owes them something to make them whole. Money is a god, and the gov't their salvation, and in the greatness of their on mind, they have a fairy tale fix for everything. Jesus gave us a new commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves, which sums up the Judaic value system to outgrow our adolescence narcissistic state. The separation of church and state has led us to divorce America from this value system that made this a country people wanted to escape to, we may soon become a nation to escape from, but whereto. Israel became a divided nation that disappeared of the face of the earth after King David sexualized his nation, the apple promoted a selfish and immature attitude among the people. This will be Pres.Clinton's legacy for America, now a I ME MY Nation.

Pistol
I look at it like socialism/communism favors no class. True a few of the elites have the upper class in that kind of society but when comparing the socialist elites to the capitalist middle class, you see that the capitalist middle class is far better off than the socialist upper class.

All socialism does is insure everyone is mired in the pit of squalor and poverty. That is where we are headed.

Liberals do not take
.....responsibility for their failures. Yes, this is true. They completely ignore their mistakes and rally to the cause of the peoples...more money for them! more fairness! Damn the fat cats and corporate greed!

Anyone see the imbecile Dodd on the Banking Committee ranting yesterday about the mortgage meltdown? And how the folks need a hand with those mortgages?

The same folks DODD got into trouble in the first place by shooting down any attempts to reorganize Fannie and Freddie by the Bush administration in 2001, 2003, 2005.

What a sham these libs are. Charlatans - there is no better description. Sooner or later, we will make these Dems own this whole mess. Because it is truth.

Anne
Some CFO. 8 per cent tax increase, 140 employees...to me that means 11 or 12 need to go. As a retired engineer, i note its accurately 11.2, but i hardly advocate dismemberment, even of employees sporting Obama stickers. Its not that they don't deserve it, its just that it is hard to get ones moneys worth out of 0.8 of an employee, even if you keep his body on the premises.

This Is The End, My Friend
I still am completely stunned and sickened how this election went and my greatest fear is that in my lifetime, we will never see another republican as president again.

Between the voter fraud, the MSM being completely biased and raising and protecting Obama while spending every resource possible to attack and discredit every ray of hope for the republicans. They allowed us to keep McCain, the most lackluster of the bunch, until he was nominated then they crapped on his head too. We were set up and knocked down.

We have our own blames too, which is why I certainly believe we will never have another republican president. Our blame was not just our candidates, but our stubborn divisions.

We attacked each other relentlessly. I read it here, I saw it everywhere for years. The sad part is, we're still doing it.

I read articles of "What can the GOP do next to win?"

All I see are the same arguments as before. The republicans are fighting with the conservatives. The conservatives are fighting with the moderates. The moderates are fighting with the libertarians. Now libertarians want to be a new Constitution Party and are fighting with us all.

We can never come together. There are no fresh ideas that are winning points if all of us are so divided. We're screwed, and were letting it be much easier for the voter frauders and the MSM to dismantle our party for good.

Welcome to Atlas Shrugged.
