Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Most 12-step programs start out by requiring that people have to understand that they’re powerless over their addiction and that only by turning their lives over to a Power greater than themselves can they be restored to sanity. Far be it from me to suggest that I am that Power, but clearly someone has to step in and try to rescue these poor liberal souls. Even the most harebrained among them deserves that much.

First, though, they have to acknowledge that Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, Dick Durbin, Charles Rangel, Harry Reid and Charles Schumer, are not moderates, but, rather, leftists with a Socialist agenda. Furthermore, they must recognize that the New York Times, the Washington Post, the L.A. Times, CNN, the three major networks, the news magazines and the New Yorker, are not objective in their reporting of political events, and neither are Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Bill Maher, in their commentary. If these entities and individuals are not on the payroll of the DNC, they certainly should be. They certainly put in longer hours than Howard Dean.

Step #1: It is high time that every American be guaranteed the right to speak freely. It is not reserved solely for left-wing college students who wish to take advantage of the first amendment to shout down conservatives. At the same time, they must not construe the conservative’s right to dismiss them as arrogant idiots as censorship.

Step #2: Affirmative action argues that African Americans and Latinos are intellectually inferior and are unable to compete academically unless other students are handicapped because of their race. Interestingly enough, when blacks and Hispanic students are given these unfair advantages, it’s rarely at any cost to white students, whose rate of college admissions remains constant; instead, it’s nearly always another minority group, Asians, who pay the price. This is what left-wingers refer to as leveling the playing field.

Step #3: Liberals always claim to be in favor of higher taxes, agreeing with Bill Clinton that the government invariably spends money more wisely than those who actually earn it. However, such prominent proponents of higher taxes as George Soros, Ted Kennedy and Mr. and Mrs. John Kerry, protect their own otherwise taxable income through trusts and offshore accounts. Obviously, any American who believes higher taxes are a good thing can do the honorable thing by spurning all deductions and paying Uncle Sam everything up to 100% of his income.

Step #4: Even the most secular of liberals seems to believe that Jimmy Carter is a saint. The evidence for this seems to be that he has on occasion posed with a hammer in his hand at Habitant for Humanity building sites and is constantly walking around with a expression on his face that suggests he has just forgiven Pontius Pilate for betraying him. This is the same fellow, let us never forget, who called Yasser Arafat his good friend and who has accepted untold millions of dollars from Arab cut-throats, who ask nothing in return except that he go on insisting that there would be peace in the Middle East if only those darn Israelis would disappear from the face of the earth.

Step #5: Stop insisting that all wars are bad. It only makes you sound daft. Carrying signs that equate a U.S. president, any U.S. president, with Adolph Hitler is not only rude, but suggests you’re certifiably nuts. Every president has left office right on schedule. Aside from FDR, who just happened to get elected four times, not one of them has remained in office beyond eight years. On the other hand, Hitler ran Germany for 12 years and only death and the allied forces brought that to an end; Stalin ran the Soviet show for 31 years; while that hero of the left, Fidel Castro, held the reins, not to mention the whip, for about 50 years.

Step #6: Repeat after me, “Separation of church and state” exists nowhere in the Constitution. The first amendment does not require the removal of Christmas trees from the village green, the 10 Commandments from court house walls or “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance. All it does is forbid Congress from establishing a state religion, such as the Church of England, and anybody who tells you otherwise is a liar and, most likely, a card-carrying member of the ACLU.

Step #7: Stop using the word “big” as a pejorative. There is nothing intrinsically bad about big oil, big agriculture or big pharmaceuticals. Overall, they do a very good job of keeping our cars on the road, food on our tables and most of us over 50 alive and functioning. On the other hand, big government, which so many liberals simply adore, represents a usurpation of the allegedly inalienable rights of individuals. A quick perusal of the Constitution should convince you that beyond declaring war, forging treaties, overseeing patents, printing money, running the post office, collecting taxes and protecting our borders -- and a few other things that Washington doesn’t do at all well these days -- the federal government has very limited responsibilities.

Step #8: Acknowledge that the United Nations is, in the main, an aggregation of venal diplomats who live high off the hog in New York City while representing the most corrupt and vicious regimes in the history of the world. Only a fool or a diplomat would continue to suggest that this gang of well-dressed thugs possesses anything resembling moral authority.

Step #9: Do not keep insisting that at a time when nearly all the large scale evil in the world is being perpetrated by Muslims that racial profiling is anything but a sensible approach to airport security. During WWII, Swedish Americans were not suspected of performing espionage for the Axis powers and for a very good reason; namely, because they weren’t performing espionage for the Axis powers. These days, their Swedish American children and grandchildren are not suspected of trying to blow up airlines, but the smarmy bureaucrats insist on pretending that they’re every bit as likely to be up to mischief as a bunch of 25-year-old Osama bin Laden look-alikes from Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

Step #10: Stop trying to pretend that illegal aliens are the same as legal immigrants just so you can claim the moral high ground and accuse those of us who are opposed to open borders of being racists.

Step #11: Once and for all, stop forgiving murderers. Whether or not you’re in favor of capital punishment, only the victim of a crime has the right to grant forgiveness. And inasmuch as the killer has deprived his victim of that ability, don’t take it upon yourself. It doesn’t prove how compassionate you are, only that you’re as sanctimonious and as self-aggrandizing as, say, Jimmy Carter.

Step #12: Stop bashing the U.S. military and the Boy Scouts. The only reason you have the ability to shoot your mouth off is because men and women braver and better than you sacrificed life and limb for your right to do so. As for the Boy Scouts, they are absolutely right to keep homosexuals from taking youngsters on camping trips. While it’s true that many gays are perfectly fine people and that very few homosexuals are pedophiles, there’s no reason on earth to take unnecessary risks just so we can all prove how broadminded we are. For what it’s worth, as decent as most Catholic priests are, I wouldn’t let them take youngsters into the woods, either. It’s fine to be compassionate and understanding, but let the gays among us be understanding for a change and acknowledge that, every so often, commonsense should trump political correctness.

And, finally, making this a baker’s dozen, Step #13: Let us all agree that while being a woman, a black, a Jew, a Catholic, a Mormon or even a gay, for that matter, should in no way preclude anyone from being elected president of the United States, none of those things constitutes a very good reason to vote for someone.

Burt, my friend...
YOU'RE THE MAN! Every point is perfect!

Dead center.
Right on target, as usual, Burt. Thanks for saying what needs to be said. Too bad most liberals are too boneheaded to listen.

burt burt burt
why do you continually stereotype liberals.
not all liberals think alike just like all conservatives don;t think alike.

there are conservatives who are atheists.
there are liberal who are religious.
there are conservatives who are pro-choice.
there are liberals who are pro-life.
and so forth and so on.

to try and say all liberals think and act the same is illogical.

but then burt doesn't do well with facts he simply writes what he FEELS is true.

Step #7
Odd, you never hear pejoratives about "Big Law".

I don't imagine that 99% of our politicians are lawyers have anything to do with that?

religiouslib
You're absolutely right!

Let me add to your list ---

there are women who are taller than men
there are blacks with lighter skin than whites
there are 1 br condos more expensive than 5 br houses

etc. etc.

Clearly to say anything else is illogical.

Step #2:
"Affirmative action argues that African Americans..."

How many people here think George Bush (43) got into Yale University and Harvard Business School based solely on his merits?

Is it 'affirmative-action' when rich and powerful white parents get their lesser-deserved kids into elite schools?

For religiouslib
What is your point? Of course there are liberals who believe America is a positive force in the world or that the Second Amendment guarantees individuals the right to own a firearm. One of them lives in Ohio and the other in Georgia.

The point is that the 13 points that Burt highlights are the prevailing viewpoints of probably 90+ percent of Lefty-libs. Your exceptions serve to strengthen Burt's points.

step #3
Some former presidents — Washington, Franklin Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower — were quoted at the hearing on the need for accountability and shared sacrifice during wartime.

All fools, the only way we'll be able to soldier on with the current War on Terror is hoping that my precious tax cut stays in place.

Bush theYounger
got into Yale partially due to nepotism, so what, lots of people take over companies due to nepotism, you probably have got at least one job due to nepotism.

When a younger brother or sister gets to pledge to an older siblings Frat or Sorority it's called a legacy, so what.

Standards aren't lowered through nepotism, if someone takes over a company due to nepotism the market doesn't lower it's standard. If the person is a schmuck, they lose the company or the board gets rid of them. If the pledge is a schmuck, they don't get in, if you couldn't handle the job you got through nepotism, you lose the job. (tenured professors are the exception)

Which brings me to my point, if market forces aren't applied, it leads to lower standards. Just look at Universities today, or public education, or especially congress.

Afirmative Action, bad!
Nepotism, good!

largecaliber
"Nepotism, good!" - now I know why the US Dollar is tanking! Do you know any Chinese or other foreign stocks to buy?

zapdoodat
Market forces at work.

Step #5
"Stop insisting that all wars are bad." - Huh? Burt needs to take a 20th century American history course. Liberal Democrats have gotten us involved in just about all the wars the past 100 years.

WWI-Wilson, WWII-FDR, Korean-Truman, Vietnam-JFK (maybe DDE started it, but JFK and LBJ really ramped it up)

Liberals love war and when a case is made that the country is threatened, then true patriots are motivated to pay higher taxes. Did 'Rosie the Riveter' need a tax cut to put in 80 hours a week at the B-17 plant in 1942?
Folks, we got a much different generation today. It's a brand new era!

zapdoodat
Nothing new is under the sun.

religiouslib
Maybe you can cite some examples for all of "us" conservatives....

But what really gets your goat is you know that what Burt writes is usually spot on.

Just as this column was spot on.
Just as his next column will be.... spot on.

But what gets my goat is that you liberals continually try to invade Town Hall. It's like ya'll do not have anywhere else to go so you come here, uninvited, to spew your nonsense, to put it nicely.

I can't wait for the Lilly's (momma lib) to come out on this one too.

I am sorry that the Huff N Puff is in such disarray over your current presidential hopefuls. Maybe you would be better off over there trying to straighten out your own people so they don't start shooting each other with those pesky guns that "most" liberals oppose.

And take that zapdedoo with you....

You do a mighty fine job with that cut and paste post of yours. I'll bet you zapdoodat's precious Tax Cuts that I'll see this same exact post somewhere on Town Hall tomorrow.

All of you continually complain and b!tch and moan about the writers here but yet you keep coming back, again, uninvited.

Do you go to a restaurant that you do not like and order food that you don't like over and over and over and over?? To the point of insanity??

Great column Burt once again.
And stop by my blog at http://thornton.blogtownhall.com.

You can keep up with the crazy antics of the residents of Smellrose Place, featuring some of our favorite trolls. We have the "old retired educator," The Navy Pilot," "He Who References Himself at the Huff n Puff" (HWRH), "The Immortal One" (TIO) amongst others.

Step #7: Stop using “big” as a pejorati
speaking of market forces! Maybe liberals aren't upset about the word "big" they are just upset with some industries sucking at the teat of the government sow.

Farm subsidies are going to be $35 billion this year. Why subsidize sugar, unless you are a dentist or a doctor specializing in diabetes? Why subsidize cotton, since most of it is shipped overseas? Who here thinks the US taxpayer should subsidize Chinese t-shirt manufacturers?

The House of Rep's voted to take away $18 billion in oil company handouts. Why should BIG government determine who is going to win in the energy supply business?

Zapdoodat Part I

What is it with you and taxes?

What is preventing you from writing a check to the US Treasury if you think you should be paying more in taxes?

Conservatives are not agaisnt taxes - we are against payting excessive taxes for crap like the Charles Rangel Center to pay Homage to Himself. We are agaisnt paying taxes to support teenaged mothers who collect welfare, medicaid and food stamps while they pawn off their "accidents' on their grandparent s to raise.

We are against paying excessive taxes to throw at a public education system that does nothing but indoctrinate young minds into socialistic thinking.

We are against paying excessive taxes for roads and bridges that get squandered for stadiums paid for by taxpayers when the baseball/football teams/owners should be paying for them.

We are against paying excessive taxes for levees in New Orleans LA when the local and state governments are so corrupt that the money is pocketed by those in the corrupt governments.

We are against paying excessive taxes so that those such as Diane Fienstien can steer massive amounts of money to their husbands military contracting firms.

We are against paying excessive taxes so that the fed Government can funnel money to their buddies to see if you pt a female monkey and a male monkey together will they mate with each other.

Zapdoodat Part II

We are against excessive taxes so that bridges to no where can be built.

We are against excessive taxes so that Nancy Pelosi can fly across country in a larger plane than she needs just so she doesn't have to stop and refuel.

We are against excessive taxes so that Presidential candidates who are also congressmen can take off a year and a half and still collect a full salary and benefits for doing virtually nothing.

I think you get the point by now.

So when you file your tax return be sure to write an extra check in it for whatever amount you think is fair FOR YOU. Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and a lot of others will thank you for it when they go on another one of their FACT FINDING MISSIONS.

It's late and I am going to bed. I'll read your response tomorrow.

I can't wait for the Haliburton rebuttal and the no bid contracts. But just remember that Clinton was the first to issue no bid contracts to Haliburton.

BmanIII
When so-called Conservatives were in total power in DC, from Jan. 2001 to Jan. 2007 they porked out spending from 3,000 to 14,000 pork barrel projects. This is crap. This is a wealth redistribution scheme from those who don't have political connections to those who do. Don't you agree?

zipi-deedoo-da zipidee-ay
my oh my what a beautiful day.

That's what this country needs, more Liberalism and everything will be beautiful. Don't worry, be happy, let big momma thighs or big daddy Obama take care of us as I am no longer capable of taking care of myself.

BmanIII
"We are against excessive taxes so that bridges to no where can be built."

This is insane. From Jan. 2001 to Jan 2007 spending sky-rocketed while there was tax cuts (in a time of war, mind you)

Why not just, not spend the money in the first place, or just do some spending cuts.

largecaliber
Now this is copied and pasted all over Townhall! Please come up with something original, madam.

"my oh my what a beautiful day.

That's what this country needs, more Liberalism and everything will be beautiful. Don't worry, be happy, let big momma thighs or big daddy Obama take care of us as I am no longer capable of taking care of myself."

Zapdoodat, stop using...
...strawdogs. Conservatives are against spending of any kind no so delinated under Article 1, Section 8. Liberals are found in the GOP as well, and those who aren't so committed to the Constitution as we will find themselves tempted by all sorts of forbidden fruit in Washington.

ReligiousLib, a Liberal is a Liberal first, therefore the moniker of Christian Liberal or something like it is false, because liberalism is incompatable with Christianity (or pretty much any other viable religion, but particularly Christianity). Liberalism is a religion in and of itself that rejects any notions of right or wrong and is humanist in focus. It cannot abide any competing faith. Neither can most other religions, particularly Judeo-Christian-Islamic. Liberalism is nothing of what its faithful purport it to be. It is not about civil rights, or compassion, or fairness. It is all about Power, and the acquisition thereof. Think about it.

zap
I've yet to copy and paste any of my threads. That's why some are good and some are not.

speaking of tax cuts
Tax cuts may not necessarily raise revenue as there may be another reason. Borrowing and spending, and more borrowing and spending during the George Bush years has, in itself, had the ability to raise tax revenues.

Here's how,

For example, borrow $400 million from China, then, Congress decides we need a critical infrastructure investment project like "a bridge to some island, populated with 40 people, somewhere in Alaska."

The U.S.A. borrows the money, pays the workers, and the workers pay income tax. If the construction company is unlucky, it may have to pay some corporate tax too. This is one project, now multiply all the above by 14,287. Feel free to pick another country to borrow from.

Feel free to double the size of the Department of Education. Feel free to increase entitlement spending with Medicare Prescription (part D), and free to spend $150 billion on two wars, every year, and, in general, feel free to increase domestic spending across the board.

The USA went from a deficit of $4 to $9 trillion the past seven years. It only took 200 years to get to $4 trillion. This total outstanding debt works out to about $33,000 per person in the USA. Now those tax cuts do feel good at the moment, but is there any upper limit to our nation's credit card? This is no way to run a war.

Wayfinder
"most conservatives..against spending of any kind.."

Balderdash! Most Conservatives I know love the space program and think it is a great way to spend our nation's R&D dollars. Only Republicans talk about establishing a moon colony and going back to Mars. It a big-government program, doing the same thing over and over, and is a HUGE waste of money.

Wayfinder
"therefore the moniker of Christian Liberal or something like it is false, because liberalism is incompatable with Christianity.

Jesus was a Liberal. The Pharisees and Sadducees were conservatives.

Step #6:
"Repeat after me, 'Separation of church and state' exists nowhere in the Constitution."

Big deal, too many so-called conservatives believe that a school-mandated prayer and other government mandated Christian prostrations are necessary to have a personal relationship with God.

Christianity survived and grew 1900 years ago because believers put their faith in God and not government and its rules. Any Christian who gets excited about step #6 should be ashamed of themselves.

Step Number Six
"The second amendment does not require the removal of Christmas trees from the village green, the 10 Commandments from court house walls or “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance."

doesn't the second amendment have something to do with arms?

We need separation of just about everything from the state, namely SCHOOLS!

Wayfinder 2:40 AM post.

You took the words right out of my mouth... twice.

The flea-bitten straw dogs are a howling, and the term religious liberal is indeed an oxymoron.

My compliments to you.

And Burt, well said.

Good List
And just for the record, there are conservative, ladylike feminists who actually like men (but just do not necessarily want one for our own.)

I would also like to point out that what most Liberals call Big Business includes ALL business, including very small business -- unless it is producing something nobody wants, at ruinous, subsidized cost.

Vietnam
Just for the record, Truman, another Democrat, was the first American president to send troops to Vietnam - the Military Assistance and Advisory Group in 1950.

Great column Burt!
The libnuts will come out on this one for sure.

Thanks for having the "stones" to write it.

Good Morning Burt
Another 5 and 1/2 stars!
When you write your articles, do you have any bets hedging on when the first BDS nut shows up?
Coming in at number 6 today, zapdoodat is the winner, oops I mean whiner!
Thanks for your efforts in trying to save the libsquirts, but I think your efforts will be lost in the madness of,
If they don't want to get better, they won't.
Have a great weekend Burt. See ya next week.

zapdoodat
I see that Burt needs #14 thru #1,000,000,000 to even put a dent in that thick mug of yours. I hardly doubt that it would even happen with that many. And you can take your religious arguement and stick them where the sun don't shine. But, hey, we'll pray for ya pal!

GREAT article
In fact, while Burt's is more polished, the Anti-Liberal Zone came out with a 12 step program to for aiding Moonbats on 26 Oct 06.

http://noliberalspin.blogtownhall.com/default.aspx?mode=pos t&g=12d2bcfe-7679-4caa-a35a-e602fc908dfe&comments=true

Libs, don't wait until your brain is pure pablum. Act now to save yourselves. And if not, wanna come to the annual VRWC Independence Day BBQ?

zapdoodat: Guess who was the BIGGEST

porker last year??? Your friend, LIBERAL, Gurtha Murtha!

The 14th and 15th Steps
Are the ones "progressives" are most loathe to take.

The 14th step is where they admit to themselves and everyone else the utter and complete contempt they have for the human race as a whole. They have spent so long a time thinking of humanity as a "threat to Holy Mother Gaia" (if they're of the "environmentalist" subset) or "The Stupid People Who Won't Listen To Us Enlightened Ones" (the rest of the lot), that they are now convinced that only they are "real people", and everyone else needs to STFD, STFU, and do as they are told.

Or Else.

And this leads directly to the 15th Step. This is the one in which they acknowledge that (1) they are not perfect, (2) they are just as capable of making mistakes as anybody else, and (3) stop blaming the failure of their "grand ideas" on everyone else.

No, their grand plans don't fail because they were underfunded, or others didn't try hard enough, or believe enough, or because they were sabotaged by the VRWC.

They fail simply because they were dumb ideas in the first place, that died on contact with reality. Regardless of how immaculate they were in terms of "philosophy".

How about it, "progressives"?

cheers

eon

Burt: Aaaahhh! Good to see you. :-)

And, of course, you're SPOT ON!

The only problem is, like most alcoholics who ultimately do a 12 Step program, they need to hit "rock bottom" before they see the need.

By the time the libs hit rock bottom, they'll have taken the rest of us, and our country, down with them.

Great column (as usual) and dove tails beautifully with Hawkins' column on TH today!

zapdoodat
ok, lets pick apart some of those comments...

The Bush tax cuts raised, i repeat...RAISED our revenue! you libs need to get that through your thick skulls.

our deficit was $6 trillion in 2001...not 4 trillion.

You also falsly group republicans and conservatives...we do not want raised spending...in fact, if a real conservative could have the power to change gov, it would probably half in size or better. all the while strengthening the responsibilities the government is supposed to provide for the people, such as national defense, roads, etc etc.

most of us love the space program? i would agree it is a less waste of money than other programs because the research they do helps other things as well. I wouldn't doubt rocket propulsion of something of the sort had some breakthroughs in NASA. But am I fighting tooth and nail to keep it? Not myself, but I also don't get the feeling many other conservatives are either.

zapdoodat
Hey stooge, do a little research on the deficit and where it grew the most. It grew the most and the fastest under the hand of the libtwits. Oddly enough, that was also when taxes were the highest.

On your whining, please, keep it up. We get off on the pain of liberals.

Hurry or you'll miss the short bus nimrod.

Wayfinder
that is exactly true. Libs will always say there are Christians in their party.

The values of the democrat party are against many Christian principles. There for they are not a Christian first, but a Christian after, which is not a Christian.

zapdoodat

Christians do not want forced prayer in schools, they want to be able to pray in school. They don't think all mentions of Christian in public places do not need to be removed. What the libs are doing is a violation of freedom of expression in my opinion. Ive heard of students being sent home for wearing christian t-shirts!

Burt has it perfectly right in step #1! libs will use their freedom of speech for all their causes, but as soon as a conservative does it they get shot down.

eon
very well put!

cheers

Right on
Great article, as always Burt. However, I think you wanted to cite the First Ammendment. The Second Ammendment, without a doubt, doesn't even mention religion.

Anne
That's ABSCAM Murtha! haha.

I'm looking forward to the aftermath of the Marines suing the bum for his libelous remarks on Haditha.

"we'll never forget...how ABSCAM Murtha lied."

The Anti-Liberal Zone.
http://noliberalspin.blogtownhall.com/

"gutting liberalism with a Ginzu knife!"

ModMark
Burt is talking liberals conservatives, not democrats and republicans. Most of the liberal point of views are synonymous with the democrat values of today. However, the democrats of WW2 and 1 were closer to conservative values of today.

So while you say libs win wars and conservatives spend...it has nothing to do with burts article of today.

ModMark
maybe you should lay off the Bailey's this early in the morning.

GunnyG/Anne
morning good folks! Points well made by both of you! I think that if a lib can agree with just one of the 12 steps, I would walk over hot coals and glass in my bare feet.

"Libs insist on winning wars, see WW1 and 2."

Nice cherry pick but that dog don't hunt.

WW1, PACIFIST Democrat Wilson insists on his 14 point plan and ignores France's crushing terms of the Versailles Treaty. It guarantees a rematch in 1939.

WW2. Yalta. FDR signs over a few hundred million Eastern Europeans to Communism thereby ensuring the Cold War. (Churchill WARNED him not to do it but hey, FDR's admin was chock full o' commies.)

Korea. Truman f-d THAT up.

Bay of Pigs. Thanks JFK.

Vietnam. LBJ's great blunder.

Tehran 1979. Carter.

Global Terrorism, Haiti, Somalia, Bosnia. Clinton.

Prey tell, where exactly HAVE liberals won a war without screwing it up.

Oh, and WHO can forget the Copperheads in the Civil War?

Libs, always picking the wrong side.

Burt,
BEST....COLUMN....EVER!!!!!!!

As a former lib, I can tell you, the big turning point for me was #11. Hubby turned me around with only one question: "Why are you so worried about the criminal's rights, when he never gave a thought to his victim's rights?"

That was when my lightbulb went on. I am a proud member of the VRWC, and have the shirt to prove it!!

FIVE STARS, to the 10th power!!!

"From Jan. 2001 to Jan 2007 spending sky-rocketed while there was tax cuts (in a time of war, mind you)"

Agreed with the first part. The Tom Delay Republicans together with GWB outliberaled the dem/libs in their love of socialist spending programs, to the dismay of all conservatives. This is the primary reason they were given the boot in 2006. But stop already with the tax "cut" nonsense. Tax RATES were cut. REVENUES to the government increased to record levels. The defense budget, even with the two-front war against Islamic nihilists, is well within historic levels both as a percentage of GDP and as a percentage of govt spending. It is politicians' spending on worthless DOMESTIC programs that is breaking the government's budgetary back. The fact is, during the GWB administration even more income earners have been taken off the tax rolls to be supported by the producers and achievers (the evil rich), who now pay the greatest percentage of federal income taxes in history. Yet econoidiots such as the media, Lilly types, all Democrats, etc keep on insisting the opposite.

You probably weren't even alive at the time. So for 50 years we have allowed Cuba (once the "playground" for the Americas' and the world) rot in misery. JFK "chickened" out because of Liberals in the US government.

Rescue of Liberal Left Souls
A one step program of recognition that they are powerless. The only future they have can be held in their hand, and only receive the temporary enjoyment of its properties. The 12 steps Burt Prelutsky lays out are all of this singular passion. It's evil of the world, and the world of evil. The struggle humans have faced ever since their first denial of God, and their sentence of death. A death they have fought to deny, and extend their lives as long as possible, while enjoying the worlds treasures as long as possible. We hear their cries, "the world is heating up, and we need to stop its progress.", while being of that progress. We hear their cries of more dollars for assisting the elderly, the poor, the infirmed, while being of that process. They gladly accept the endorsment of religious organizations, as they put out this call, then deny these organizations the work that is theirs. They left ran for shelter behind men, and women, who stood up, and met the oppressive threats of violent terrorist attacks. But as the dust settles they climb out of their shelters to enjoy the light giving them the means of their existance. A light of passion that gives many chances, over, and over again, to save the powerless. Standing directly in front of them the left irresponsibly walks right on by with Obama's "hope", and Clinton's "change". As that "hope" is a trust the passions of America can be swayed by their intimidating talk of turmoil. To fill the individual coffers of their base, and secure power, their hope is on us to give without question.

As in A.A.,first you stand and say..My name is ------- ------ and I am an alcoholic. The liberals do not admit they are liberal. They think they are moderate,middle-of-the-road,etc. It is us conservatives, who are out of step. We are old fuddy-duddies,old fashioned, etc. They take no blame for the deterioration of the country. They like the way things are now.Pigs always like to wallow in the mud. They are at home there.

WIlson and WWI
Anyone claiming Wilson(D) as a champion of WWI, as I have read a number of times in previous posts, has a serious need to study history. Wilson could not have been more of a pacifist. He did everything he could to keep America from going to war and was only forced to join after a series of events, and the "threat" of a Mexican attack, raised public ire so much that Wilson had little choice. Wilson's lackluster resolution to the war paved the way for WWII about two decades later and formed the foundation for the United Nations (WWII or UN - what's worse?).

Robert
The Bay of Pigs, come on. Nothing you have posted contradicts Gunny's original post that mentions it.

REPUBLICANS believe america is a great place and does alot of good in the world

Thank again, your an inspiration!

Burt, You Missed Some Fundamentals
Bert, you missed some of the fundamental steps in reforming a liberal.

First, a left-liberal desirous of changing his ways must acknowledge that emotion is not a substitute for thought.

Second, a left-liberal desirous of changing his ways must acknowledge that what a course of action *actually does* is more important than how that course of action makes them feel.

Third, a left-liberal desirous of changing his ways must acknowledge that truth and falsehood, right and wrong are objective things which exist completely independent of any given person's perspective AND that they likewise remain unchanged even when various people have different perspectives.

Only when these fundamentals are acknowledged is it useful to begin discussing the specific issues you related. :-)

war

As the Progressive you are RIGHT NOW, not assuming other form or hypothetical pretense.

Fro12779busto
"G's narrative on WWI and WW@ history is just plain ignorant."

Really? How so? I believe that history records that p*ssy Wilson let the French have THEIR WAY w/ the Germans in order to get his 14 points passed. This insured that German resentment would fester for theext 20 years.

Also, I believe that history records Yalta as having been a huge FDR mistake.

If you'd like to debate me on these issues, or indeed, ANY history issue, please feel free to issue the time and the place. I'll be back in the states after April.

Also, bring that .203 caliber rifle you were talking about when you were pontificating about sniper tactics and I'll bring my M1903A3 and we can settle THAT argument at the nearest rifle range.

I'll be waiting to hear from you on both issues.

Good morning!!

Just wanted to let you know, I love your idea for your blog. "Inspirational" doesn't begin to describe it.

Robert
"JFK's only mistake in the BOP was to let it happen...he was talked into it mostly by former IKE CIA people ...and was told much as the Bush folks were that it would be a rousing popular uprising."

Your hmmmm you are making a mistake assuming that was all there is to it. Kenned pounded Ike in the elections about not doing enough about Castro which obviously had a hand in his decision making process.

Nobody forced Kennedy to do anything he wasn't inclined to do. He heard dissenting opinions from the likes of Senator J. William Fulbright told Kennedy that this sort of hypocrisy was just the sort of thing of which the United States accused the Soviets.

Kennedy did what he thought was a good idea with the intelligence analysis he had available.

If he THOUGHT it had no chance he wouldn't of done IT.

Bye, Wobbie the Weeble!!!
Avoiding the bullets, are you??

Wobbie the Weeble...
....just can't seem to stay away....some call it masochism.

I call it stupidity.

GunnyG
Wobbie the Weeble seems to be rattled.

His spelling is even worse than usual.

;-)

Hmmm... who to believe?
It's a military/political history battle between GunnyG and Robert.

Who should we believe for the true facts in this battle?

Shall we believe GunnyG? Someone who has actually proven his bona fides, has served as an honored US Marine and who left a cushy 6-figure job to place himself near the point of the spear in the ME as a civilian supporter of our military? Someone who will forthrightly grant access to his records to the doubters?

Or shall we believe Robert? A man who has at various times claimed to be an active duty US Navy Captain, a naval aviator, a firearms instructor, a test pilot, etc, etc, etc... But has yet, not even once, offered any proof to back up his purported history?

Unless you are one of the OJ Simpson jurors, picking the winner in this battle is a no-brainer.

Insults
I don't know for 100 percent sure, but I'm pretty sure the 12 step programs don't insult the participants. Given Burt probably already knows this then one can only surmise that the true purpose is just to poke fun and not actually engage a single solitary liberal.

So, I'll just part with some thoughts from an American I admire.
-----

I continued this ... Habit of expressing my self in Terms of modest
Diffidence, never using when I advance any thing that may possibly be
disputed, the Words, Certainly, undoudtedly, or any others that give
the Air of Positiveness to an Opinion; but rather say, I conceive, or
I apprehend a Thing to be so or so, It appears to me, or I should
think it so or so for such and such Reasons, or I imagine it to be so,
or it is so if I am not mistaken. This Habit I believe has been of
great Advantage to me, when I have had occasion to inoculate my
Opinions and persuade Men into Measures that I have been from time to
time engag'd in promoting. And as the chief ends of Conversation are
to inform, or to be informed, to please or to persuade, I wish
well meaning sensible Men would not lesson their Power of doing Good by
a Positive assuming Manner that seldom fails to disgust, tends to
create Opposition, and to defeat every one of those Purposes for which
Speech was given us, to wit, giving or receiving Information, or
Pleasure: For if you would inform, a positive dogmatical Manner in
advancing your Sentiments, may provoke Contradiction and prevent
candid Attention. If you wish Information and Improvement from the
Knowledge of others and yet the same time express your self firmly
fix'd in your present Opinions, modest sensible Men, who do not love
Disputation, will probably leave you undisturb'd in the Possession of
your Error; and such a Manner you can seldom hope to recommend your
self in pleasing your Hearers, or to persuade those whose Concurrence
you desire.
--Benjamin Franklin, The Autobiography of B.F.

All should take note than Fro12779busto once AGAIN dodged a challenge.

Magical
Burt - This column is a masterpiece. The best part about it is how it has inflamed some of the hard core liberals. That only tells me you scored a direct hit.

The truth be told, most people - Democrats and Republicans alike - live their lives following the 12 step program. If Barack Obama wrote this column everyone, including Olbermann, would be saying it was one of the greatest writings of all time. That is because instincitively most people agree with what you wrote. It is just when they find out it came from a conservative that it now has to be disputed.

We all know that white liberals get upset when affirmative action bumps them from a college or job. And I believe liberals profile when they notice a couple of young middle eastern men reading the Koran getting on the same plane. As you said, this is just common sense. I agree with another poster that this was your best column ever. Thank you.

Robert
"As did Reagan when he "redeployed" out of Lebanon."

This is widely considered now as one of Reagan's mistakes, even by his supporters. History has shown that it help embolden our current enemies. AKA Islamic Terrorists and gave them a blue print on how to deal with our military.

The Bay of Pigs is considered a mistake also by historical perspective. Either we shouldn't of done in in the first place or the op should have been better supported by the U.S.

Iraq does not yet and will not have for some time a historical perspective which, does tend to be more unbiased and less emotionally charged. Pulling out of Iraq has 2 possible out comes staying and seeing through as well has 2 possible out comes.

History will be the final judge.

Great Article Burt!!!
But as you well know any "recovering" addict has to 1st ADMIT they have a problem. as I am no regular "Joe", if you keep writing about Marines on your blog, you'll have at least 10 posters here reading it. Nicely done, nice story on "Joe". I just wish I could have served with Chesty!

Good Morning to
you all. I see all my favorites are here. Burts' colum is great and like YLG, I intend to print it and pass it to my family too. You have all expressed my thoughts much better than I can so I'll just say DITTO to all of your excellent comments.

YLG, I'm glad I'm not the only recovering lib here. It's really strange how very clear and bright the world actually is when you come in from the cold, dark world of lib land.

Congrats Anne!

Post Holer
Okay....tell the libs to go first!

Was that persuasion when they are shouting down conservatives that speak at college campus'?

Just curious.

Wonder what Franklin would say about that?

Primus54,
Can you skedaddle to the chatroom? I have news of import for ya!

I think cowardice is probably a liberal trait, one thing I know for sure....selfishness most certainly is which goes back to cowardice doesn't it?

For Recovering Conservatives - Part 1
1. Stop thinking America is the best country in the world. It shows your arrogance, cultural superiority and hubris. Think instead this is the best country for us. The whole world does not need to be like us.
2. Stop thinking that American ideals, values and actions are a source of good in the world. Recognize that we are clumsy, make mistakes and primarily motivated by primarily by economic self-interest. That sometimes we are the cause of our own problems.
3. Stop thinking wars are just. Only a country with the world’s biggest military and military-industrial complex would think this way. It is self-serving.
4. Stop equating God and Christianity with patriotism and militarism. That the only true American is a God-fearing, gun-toting Christian that loves the military and votes republican.
5. Stop creating enemies; liberals, atheists, socialists, illegal immigrants, communists, secularists, Gays, Democrats, the French, Muslims and anybody else that does not think like you or like America as much as you. You come across as hateful, close-minded and intolerant.

For Recovering Conservatives - Part 2
6. Stop thinking that Free-Markets and free-trade will solve all our economic problems if only the government will cut taxes and end regulations. Recognize that Freedman style capitalism has caused more harm than good. That unregulated markets allows for greed to and profits to run businesses. People get hurt. Just look at what happened to the mortgage industry. Recognize that there is favoritism to the rich and business function in self-interest. That the middle class is dying and income disparity is widening due to the end of the new deal and the weakening of labor laws and regulations. Unchecked capitalism favors the rich and hurts the majority of workers.
7. Stop embracing pseudo-science. You look stupid arguing for Intelligent Design and against stem cell research and climate change. Especially when the bulk of anti-climate change research is funded by the oil and energy companies.
8. Stop stereotyping people who are poor as lazy and cheats. That they are the cause of their problems. Stop supporting the cutting of programs that help peoples by claiming personal responsibility. This is a ruse that you really do not care about anybody but yourselves.
9. Stop this Moral Superiority and Absolutism. We all live with moral relativism. You are against abortion and euthanasia but for just wars and capital punishment. You support individualism and want the government off people’s backs but you want the government to tell gays they cannot marry.

Thank you so much for posting your ignorance for all the world to see!

Proof positive that liberals are brain dead. We appreciate it so much!

Let me get you started on the road to recovery. First off only the lowest life forms defecate intentionally in their own bed. Start there. Next stop learn what arrogance really is because you haven't a clue. Until you do that there is no pint in furthering your schooling.

It' not about pedophiles!!!!
I get what Bert is saying in # 12 but I think he is missing a important reality on the issue. Pedophilia had little to do with the priest scandle. The overwelming majority of the priests were gay predators, plain and simple. Unfortunately he is perpetuating a media diven myth.

Anyone who truly understands the gay priest issue would find it just short of insane to put gay men in the scout master position of power. The concern is not about the many good gay men, as he notes, it's about the degenerates who pray on young boys, that is the issue. No one denigrates the Girl Scouts for not having male scout masters yet the boy scouts are excoriated by the left for not putting queens in the same position.

I think that most people figure people are born gay or straight, yet people who won't truthfully look at the scandal will think celibacy will ultimately make a man attracted to not only the same sex, but very young too, That is ABSURD. Also, most of the victims were teenagers, making most offenders ephebophiles (sp?).

The rest of the article is on in so many ways about the most dangerous mental disorder in America.

Burt
Great column. Hello to everybody else too. New parody about Barak: my blog.

Lolo1
You miss the point...If Burt Prelutsky can be simple-minded, stereotypical, geenralize and anecdotal in his description of liberals, why can't you grant me the same courtesy?

You can dish it out but you cannot take it...

here is what liberals believe
i was challenged by birdman as to why iwas here since i was not invited.
i am hear because i believe in america and the free expression of ideas and the concept that no matter what we are all americans.

the founding fathers had such extreme disagreements they sometimes had fist fights.
they yelled and screamed at each other but finally made the agonizing compromises to form the greatest document and the greatest country in the history of the world.

whatever the disagreements between liberals and conservatives they are only an addendum to those great and historic debates.

Super column - - - BUT - - -
- - - he forgot to mention Pat Leahy as one of the most contemptable forces in the supercilious political world of today (2nd paragraph) -- but we can forgive that small omition, 'ay?

Oh my gosh !!!Where do I start? Conservatives ARE morally superior to liberals !! The Democrat party is made up of only "factions'.Each has a place at the public trough. As long as you get yours----who cares where it came from? When your party has drained the last drop of blood from moral,hard-working,taxpaying citizens, people like you will be in
the bread lines with the rest of us.-------
As for morality.,make a list of all the programs YOUR party have foisted on the rest of us,that have ruined almost everything that was good and decent in our society. You can not name ONE thing liberals have done in the last several years that has made this country "morally"better.
-------I await your list.

As far as I'm concerned, you are always welcome here.

And as far as your 11:18 AM post, all I can say is:

zapdoodat: Space Program
"Most Conservatives I know love the space program and think it is a great way to spend our nation's R&D dollars. Only Republicans talk about establishing a moon colony and going back to Mars. It a big-government program, doing the same thing over and over, and is a HUGE waste of money."

Speaking as an engineer and scientist, those of you who likely have the word “ARTS” embossed on your degrees are completely ignorant of the fact that today’s post-industrial, information technology-based economy is based on technologies that were primarily derived from research & development associated with the U.S. space program. Unfortunately, the U.S. space program & associated research & development were severely curtailed in the 70’s in favor of funding the bottomless pit that is the welfare-industrial complex. The mostly-male American progressive income taxpayer base continues to fund a REAL failure of a war. The space program price tag is dwarfed by the 40 trillion dollars wasted on the ongoing pro-feminist “War on Poverty” since LBJ established his “Great Society” welfare-industrial complex over 40 years ago.

Then there’s the matter of evidence suggesting that all 5 mass extinctions in the last 550 million were caused by extraterrestrial events. A manned space program focusing on self-sufficient lunar and Martian colonies could potentially prevent the extinction of humanity if another extraterrestrial event were to occur in the near future, e.g. collision w/ a Near Earth Orbit (NEO) asteroid.

1. Tell all the immigrants, legal or otherwise, to stop thinking that America is the best country in the world as well. Why does American immigration far, far outweigh American emigration. I don't see hordes of Americans jumping the Chinese borders in the Gobi desert in hopes of getting all the benefits of China. I don't see Floridians trying to make rafts out of palm trees in the hopes of sailing safely to Cuba.

2. Who, then, is the source for good in the world? The UN? Sure, we make mistakes, no human, let alone nation, is infallible. American actions benefit more than they hurt, however, and those they hurt tend to be despots, authoritarians, and tyrants.

3. Just war theory is not an American, or a republican construct. What, in your mind, makes a war just? America uses its military to help others. Is it self-serving? Sure, sometimes it can be. But if we wanted to use our military unjustly, why haven't we take over Canada? Why haven't we nuked the ME to death and moved in for the oil? We have used our military to depose those who would rule over others.

4. They are and they are. GW was a gun-toting, God-fearing nut that decided to take on the British Empire. what better inspiration? =)

5. Don't get me started on the close-mindedness of liberals. In the school I teach in, you can celebrate your homosexualtiy, you can celebrate every Jewish holiday known to man, you can celebrate Kwanza, but if you mention Christmas, be prepared for a backlash like you've never seen. Liberals are the most close-minded people out there, they just know how to pander better than most as well. They need black, Jewish, and gay votes so who do you think they treat well?

...history of the CRA of 1964. Boy you are a textbook case of the ignorance of liberalism. The CRA of 1964 was voted AGAINST by nearly every single southern DEMOCRAP in Congress. It was PASSED in great part due to Senator Edward Dirksen a REPUBLICAN's assistant. Go away and read some history books. Not only do you live in denial, you're complete ignorance is on display.

liberals believe
this is written by geoffrey stone- professor of law at university of Chicago

liberals believe individuals should doubt their own truths and consider fairly and open-mindedly the truths of others. This is at the very heart of liberalism. Liberals understand, as Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes once observed, that "time has upset many fighting faiths." Liberals are skeptical of censorship and celebrate free and open debate.

Liberals believe "we the people" are the governors and not the subjects of government, and that government must treat each person with that in mind. It is liberals who have defended and continue to defend the freedom of the press to investigate and challenge the government, the protection of individual privacy from overbearing government monitoring, and the right of individuals to reproductive freedom. (Note that libertarians, often thought of as "conservatives," share this value with liberals.)

Liberals believe government must protect the safety and security of the people, for without such protection liberalism is impossible. This, of course, is less a tenet of liberalism than a reply to those who attack liberalism. The accusation that liberals are unwilling to protect the nation from internal and external dangers is false. Because liberals respect competing values, such as procedural fairness and individual dignity, they weigh more carefully particular exercises of government power (such as the use of secret evidence, hearsay and torture), but they are no less willing to use government authority in other forms (such as expanded police forces and international diplomacy) to protect the nation and its citizens.

I most certainly can take it.

The problem is that you actually believe the fallacies that you posted.

The other problem is Burt touched a sore tooth with you and you know it. You know there is a lot of truth in that column most especially when you watch the news. I know there is just from living in liberal land.

Would I say all liberals are like that...NO! But another problem is that the majority of them are.

Stedes cont.
6. I'm sure socialism solves all your problems, right? The USSR did such a glorious job of it, so why can't we? The bottom line is that we became an economic superpower in a very short amount of time based on capitalism. Don't like it? Move.

7. Pseudo-science? HAHAHAHA!!! This coming from someone who undoubtedly believes Al Gore is the pinnacle of scientific thought? Most scientists have embraced intelligent design completely free of political or religious pressure. Climate-change is a joke. And stem cells? Are you really still caught up on that? Tell me ONE thing that you can do with embryonic stem cells that hasn't been accomplished with adult stem cells.

8. You got something right here. People who are poor and lazy ARE the cause of their problems. Why should we subsidize that? Why should we enable them to be poor and lazy? Your skewed logic is what keeps them poor and lazy.

9. Deny it all you want, but there is a oral authority, and there is absolutism. Tell me one country in the world where murder is allowed? Why isn't it allowed somewhere if there is no true morality. Your stupid post-modern ideas of moral relativity are ridiculous. There are hundreds of different basis for morality, but there is no logical reason to suggest that there is no moral authority.

liberals believe
Liberals believe courts have a special responsibility to protect individual liberties. It is principally liberal judges and justices who have preserved and continue to preserve freedom of expression, individual privacy, freedom of religion and due process of law. (Conservative judges and justices more often wield judicial authority to protect property rights and the interests of corporations, commercial advertisers and the wealthy.)

Liberals believe government must protect the safety and security of the people, without unnecessarily sacrificing constitutional values. It is liberals who have demanded and continue to demand legal protections to avoid the conviction of innocent people in the criminal justice system, reasonable restraints on government surveillance of American citizens, and fair procedures to ensure that alleged enemy combatants are in fact enemy combatants. Liberals adhere to the view expressed by Brandeis some 80 years ago: "Those who won our independence ... did not exalt order at the cost of liberty."

In regards to your 11:42 am post.

What liberals believe and what their actions are, are two different things.

Actions speak louder than words.

liberals and religion
Voters who went to church monthly split 50%-49% for Bush and Kerry. Those who go to church "occasionally" went for Kerry 53%-47%, while people who attend church weekly went for Bush 58%-41%. More important, 61% of Democrats pray daily, 59% are "certain" there's life after death, and most believe in God. The spiritual lives of Democrats are, statistically speaking, somewhat less based in houses of worship than those of Republicans but they are believers nonetheless.

Hahahaha
The purpose of this article is not to reform liberals, but to perpetuate lies about what liberals want and think. It's red meat for the conservative sheep.

For example, Burt offers this advice to liberals: "Stop insisting that all wars are bad. It only makes you sound daft." Seriously, who is he talking to? All liberals are not pacifists; in fact, nost aren't. Most supported the war against Afghanistan, for example -- folks from Kos to Michael Moore to your run-of-the-mill liberal blogger. To simply assert otherwise, and then offer advice based on that premise, is why fewer and fewer people adhere to conservatism these days -- because it simply isn't reality-based.

So keep up the platitudes and deception, Burt. You are only marginalizing your own interests. Let the rest of the country (reality-based conservatives and reality-based liberals and reality-based moderates) work things out.
