Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

I never thought I’d live to see the day that Christmas would become a dirty word. You think it hasn’t? Then why is it that people are being prevented from saying it in polite society for fear that it will offend?

Schools are being forced to replace “Christmas vacation” with “winter break” in their printed schedules. At some major retail chains, the word is verboten, replaced as a matter of policy by the generic Happy Holidays. Carols, even instrumental versions, are banned in certain locales. A major postal delivery service has not only made their drivers doff their Santa caps, but ordered them not to decorate their trucks with Christmas wreaths.

How is it, one well might ask, that in a Christian nation this is happening? And in case you find that designation objectionable, would you deny that India is a Hindu country, that Turkey is Muslim, that Poland is Catholic? That doesn’t mean those nations are theocracies. But when the overwhelming majority of a country’s population is of one religion, and most Americans happen to be one sort of Christian or another, only a darn fool would deny the obvious.

Although it seems a long time ago, it really wasn’t, that people who came here from other places made every attempt to fit in. Assimilation wasn’t a threat to anyone; it was what the Statue of Liberty represented. E pluribus unum, one out of many, was our motto. The world’s melting pot was our nickname. It didn’t mean that any group of people had to check their customs, culture or cuisine, at the door. It did mean that they, and especially their children, learned English, and that they learned to live and let live.

That has changed, as you may have noticed. And I blame my fellow Jews. When it comes to pushing the multicultural, anti-Christian, agenda, you find Jewish judges, Jewish journalists, and the ACLU, at the forefront.

Being Jewish, I should report, Christmas was never celebrated by my family. But what was there not to like about the holiday? To begin with, it provided a welcome two week break from school. The decorated trees were nice, the lights were beautiful, “It’s a Wonderful Life” was a great movie, and some of the best Christmas songs were even written by Jews.

But the dirty little secret in America is that, in spite of the occasional over- publicized rants by the likes of Mel Gibson and Michael Richards anti-Semitism is no longer a problem in society; it’s been replaced by a rampant anti-Christianity. For example, much of the hatred spewed towards George W. Bush has far less to do with his policies than it does with his religion. The Jews voice no concern when a Bill Clinton or a John Kerry makes a big production out of showing up at black Baptist churches or posing with Rev. Jesse Jackson because they understand that’s just politics. They only object to politicians attending church for religious reasons.

My fellow Jews, who often have the survival of Israel heading the list of their concerns when it comes to electing a president, only gave 26% of their vote to Bush, even though he is clearly one of the most pro-Israel presidents we’ve ever had in the Oval Office. Unlike Clinton, who had Yasser Arafat sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom so often Even Monica Lewinsky got jealous, Bush saw to it that the Palestinian butcher was persona non grata at the White House.

It is the ACLU, which is overwhelmingly Jewish in terms of membership and funding, that is leading the attack against Christianity in America. It is they who have conned far too many people into believing that the phrase “separation of church and state” actually exists somewhere in the Constitution.

You may have noticed, though, that the ACLU is highly selective when it comes to religious intolerance. The same group of self-righteous shysters who, at the drop of a “Merry Christmas” will slap you with an injunction, will fight for the right of an American Indian to ingest peyote and a devout Islamic woman to be veiled on her driver’s license.

I happen to despise bullies and bigots. I hate them when they represent the majority, but no less when, like Jews in America, they represent an infinitesimal minority.

I am getting the idea that too many Jews won’t be happy until they pull off their own version of the Spanish Inquisition, forcing Christians to either deny their faith and convert to agnosticism or suffer the consequences.

I should point out that many of these people abhor Judaism every bit as much as they do Christianity. They’re the ones who behave as if atheism were a calling. They’re the nutcakes who go berserk if anyone even says, “In God we trust” or mentions that the Declaration of Independence refers to a Creator with a capital “C.” By this time, I’m only surprised that they haven’t begun a campaign to do away with Sunday as a day of rest. After all, it’s only for religious reasons – Christian reasons – that Sunday, and not Tuesday or Wednesday, is so designated.

This is a Christian nation, my friends. And all of us are fortunate it is one, and that so many millions of Americans have seen fit to live up to the highest precepts of their religion. It should never be forgotten that, in the main, it was Christian soldiers who fought and died to defeat Nazi Germany and who liberated the concentration camps.

Speaking as a member of a minority group – and one of the smaller ones at that – I say it behooves those of us who don’t accept Jesus Christ as our savior to show some gratitude to those who do, and to start respecting the values and traditions of the overwhelming majority of our fellow citizens, just as we keep insisting that they respect ours.

Merry Christmas, my friends.

Unbelievable!
"anti-Semitism is no longer a problem in society..."
Oh, thank goodness! I'm so relieved by your declaration. I'm curious, though, can you pinpoint
just when this demise of anti-Semitism occurred?

Much Ado
I don't wonder that you've gotten smoe negative replies. Today the use of Christian symbols, or even holiday wishes, grates on the nerves of individuals who have nothing better to do than complain. They are part and parcelof the professional victim class.

I don't know what the timing was, of the Seattle airport nonsense, but I know if I went to the Tampa airport and found it festooned woith Stars of David, Dreidles, and blue-and-white-Whatnots, I wouldn't feel put upon or offended. I might cast a jaundiced eye on how well or poorly the decorations were set. But I could not care less if the airport decided to celebrate Hannukah.

If I felt a tad left out, and had a few free moments, I might call and ask if Christmas decorations would soon appear, and if they weren't scheduled to be put up, I might even ask if they would. And that would be the end of it.

Perhaps the Rabbi in question did ask such a question. But from what I've read, he did not ask until after he threatened a lawsuit, SeaTac pulled down all the Christmas decorations, and the Rabbi began getting bad press. So, in my own mind, he went too far. And didn't think before taking offense and making threats.

Good article, Burt. Thanks for taking a stab at it! On my own blog I - http://benningswritingpad.blogspot.com/2006/11/show-us-some-respect.html - posted about the 'attacks' on Christmas. And I wonder why folks just can't live and let live.

Happy Hannukah, Burt!

My beliefs have nothing to fear
... from engagement with other ideas. I am not worried about my children hearing was a so-called learned Jew thinks of Jesus Christ because my children know what they believe and often can spot a disingenuous argument a long time before I can. Just like a muscle grows through exercise (engagement!), faith grows through engagement. If someone has a problem with that, perhaps they should move to a country where there is no freedom of speech, religion or assembly. Otherwise, they need to recognize that the Founding Fathers would have spoken out strongly against the current sanitized public square because they were not afraid of ideas and they recognized that all people have a right to express their opinion. That's why they put it in the Constitution! What do you have to fear from ideas? Unless, of course, you really aren't certain of the ideas you hold.

Prelutsky's follow-up column to "Grinch"
For some reason TH didn't carry Prelutsky's follow-up to this column.

You can read "Grinch - Part 2" here:

http://www.intellectualconservative.com/2006/the-christmas-grinch-revisited/

Prelutsky notes in this follow-up column that nothing he has written to-date has resulted in the amount of comments and mail that the original column triggered.

o fortuna
One thing we can all be certain of in this world is change. Anti-semitism may be near extinct today but the actions of the ACLU and the abundance of anti-christian Jewish lawyers, judges and politicians are guaranteeing that it will make a comeback, in a big way. These people are like EMTs trying to revive a heart attack victim, trying to jump start it's heart. Thanks to them there will be so many documented acts of hostility towards America and it's religion that when it does make a comeback reasonable people will fall prey to it, and they wont care what happens to their Jewish neighbors. The question people will ask then is "how could such a small minority have been so arrogant and power mad, and STUPID". The Rabbi may claim he didn't intend to make the mall remove the christmas trees but he did intend to force his will on it. Who is he to push a private aentity around and threaten lawsuits. Let him build his own mall where he can dictate the rules out of ownership. For all we know the mall he threatened has a Jewish owner.

Bert is a disgusting self-hating idiot
There he goes again--once again I'm nauseated by Burt's disgusting, self-hating diatribe--the title alone sums it up nicely. Gee, we Jews just can't seem to get it together, can we. Bert is a sniveling, cowardly, Judenrat shmuck who hides under the bed hoping the anti-semites will just go away. Tell me, Burt, were you, perhaps Jimmy Carter's ghostwriter? Once again, the Jews are divided against each other during another season of holiday humbug.

FIRST THEY CAME FOR THE JEWS
Merry_go_boy, what a happy surprise to see a conservative quoting lines I hear mostly from the ACLU. Think of modern examples. If we don't let Congressman Ellison swear on a Koran (TH columnist Prager seems to have made this up, but it's still an interesting example) and we don't let him, what will happen when a Jew wants to swear on a Tanakh? If we don't accomodate observant Jews who don't want to work on Saturdays, will we force observant Christians to work on Sundays?

If we force Jewish children in public school to hear stories about the Jews killing Jesus (as I was in grade school), will we soon force Catholic children to hear about the evils of Catholic ilolatry?

We are not a Christian nation. We are a nation that tolerates Christians . . . and Jews and Moslems, and Buddists, and Zoroastrians, and . . . .

naked pagen
I don't think it is a particularly difficult distinction to make between "adpopting ways and practices" and converting one thing into something totally different.

But, methinks you enjoy being intentionally obstinate. Sort of like your inability to distinguish between "killing" and "murder" per your posts to a separate column.

nevadaminstersmon
So Christians renovated pagan symbology and a winter solstice celebration into a celebration of the birth of Christ?

No, they took it as their own as a marketing ploy, inspite of what the bible says against adopting pagan ways and pratices.

In fact, it leads one to belive that Christianity is not something new, but the same set of repackaged myths being sold to a new generation of belivers

Noelegy
After I posted, I realized my choice of words wasn't the best. "Useless" and "useful" is in the eye of the beholder. My bad.

My point was that more than a few folks posting here seem to think that there are a bunch of deluded christians running around celebrating a pagan ritual. In reality, christianity deliberately displaced these pagan rituals. I hate to use a word like "hijacked" because it doesn't have quite the right nuance...but that's the basic idea...take something over for your own uses that used to belong to someone else.

Frankly, the "secularization" of Christmas and Easter is appalling to most Christians that I know. You know...Christmas isn't about Christ Mass...it's about Santa, presents, reindeer, and the North Pole. Easter isn't about Christ's ressurection...it's about artificial grass, food coloring, and chocolate.

Yes, the observances had pagan roots and symbolism. But that really has nothing to do with the observances as they are practiced and recognized today.

It's like I said in my analogy. The building used to be a grocery store, now it's an Auto Parts Store. Nobody cares, and most don't even know, what the building used to be. They just know what it is now...and it's former purpose is simply not relevant. Great for a question in a game of trivial pursuit, but not much else.

Nevadamistermom
Obviously, the transformation of the old pagan holidays was deliberate. Same thing happened with Ostara/Eostre/Easter. I think it's a little arrogant to refer to the old ways as "useless," though. EVERY religion is someone else's mythology, after all.

I just get amused when people get het up about Christmas trees somehow being a symbol of the Christian holiday. I'd also like to hear the explanation of what bunnies and eggs (fertility symbols) have to do with the Christian Easter.

Take Back the Government
"It's time that the WHITE Christian churches demand some accountability from our BLACK Christian brethren who only vote DEMOCRAT for one reason and one reason only"

I'm convinced that a Christian could vote Democrat, especially because not one Republican Congress has even tried to ban abortion since Roe v. Wade. It's a state issue, for one thing.

Persnickety and JudahGabriel
Please see my post immediately above.

naked pagen, noelegy, et. al.
So Christians renovated pagan symbology and a winter solstice celebration into a celebration of the birth of Christ?

Hooray!

Newsflash: This was DELIBERATE. It wasn't a bunch of Christians unwittingly participating in an inherently pagan observance. It takes a certain ingenuity to transform something useless into something useful. Anyone can just invent a new holiday and randomly assign it to a day. It takes real cleverness to eliminate the old holiday AND create a wholesome new one in its place AND make it a truly global ovservance instead of isolated to a small slice of Europe. Isn't that just like a Christian?

Kind of reminds me of the ugly abandoned Safeway store in my town that sat empty for years and was of no use to anyone...until the Kragan Auto Parts company came and took it over. It bears no resemblance to its former self, and besides...nobody cares anymore what the building once was. They just know that once it was useless and an eyesore, and now it is useful and attractive.

liberalgoodman...
Yes, it's truly a brave new world if, as you suggest, the Supreme Court has defined hate speech as...anything you personally find offensive.

To quote that veritable fountain of wisdom, Mr. Patrick Starfish of SpongeBob Squarepants fame: "I sense no danger here."

- Question whether global warming is merely a hypothesis or actual fact? Hate speech against mother earth.

- Oppose amnesty for illegals? Hate speech against Hispanics.

- Stand on a street corner with a sandwich board proclaiming a religious belief others find offensive? Hate speech against sensitive children.

- Criticize affirmative action? Racially-motivated hate speech (the worst kind!)

Yes, thank goodness we have the Supreme Court to provide us with a virtual 28th Ammendment: Freedom from Offense.

Skunk
You're what most forum readers would call a Troll or a Sock Puppet.

I'll be moving on and will not respond after nor read your comments further because it's obvious you must have the last word due to some internal issues you may have. I shall let you quench them in full because you still obviously need to suckle in order to grow.

Keep trolling

sHELLS
Your response proves my point.
ANY criticism is intolerable to you.
Hit you in the back of the head? Awww, poor baby.
Masochists such as you prove Prelutsky's point.
Remember the Masada Complex? No? Learn about it.
And don't give me that crap about Jews being persecuted. With my slavic name I've often been called ". . .you dirty jew bxxxard" so I fully know the stupidity of anti-semites.
But you are far too full of yourself to listen to ANYBODY.

Cheers,
(You sure need them)

The funny thing about Christmas trees
Christmas trees, although they're put up to celebrate Christmas, are a pre-Christian pagan symbol, as are many Christmas traditions (mistletoe, Yule logs, lights, reindeer):

Skunkworks
Thanks for the unnecessary emo smash on the back of my head. Feel better? Hope so, but hate to break it to you, you're off base on me.

I'm not ultra sensitive, nor am I perfect, nor do I walk around with a chip on my shoulder. I happen to be literate and can read quite well and absorb what it is I do read. I call it a gift.

This article went one way and the majority of these posts went a different direction, one I was surprised to see and also ashamed to read coming from people I considered smarter than the average liberal.

All opinions are tolerated on most subjects, doesn't mean I have to agree with what you say, nor will it make me self hating like Burt despite 1/2 of the cruel things I read.

You can blather, send more blunt and offensive cheeky remarks towards me, really, it only impresses yourself. Again I may not be perfect, but at least I know I try not to go out of my way to hurt people if they disagree with me.

Have a nice day.

THE CHOSEN JEWS
TAKE BACK THE GOVERNMENT MISUNDERSTANDS THE TERM. JEWS WERE CHOSEN NOT BECAUSE OF FAVORITISM, BUT THEY WERE CHOSEN TO BE A LIGHT ONTO OTHERS NATIONS; THUS, HE GAVE THE JEWS THE TORAH AS A GUIDE. DOES THAT MEAN THAT ALL JEWS SERVE THAT PURPOSE? OFF COURSE NOT, BUT THAT IS THE IMPLICATION OF "GOD'S CHOSEN PEOPLE". FURTHERMORE, ANYONE CAN BE A JEW THROUGH CONVERSION THEREFORE JUDAISM IS INCLUSIVE; HOWEVER BECAUSE OF THE BELIEF THAT ONE NEED NOT BE SAVED IN ORDER TO GO TO HEAVEN THERE IS NO EMPHASIS ON PROSLETIZING. UNFORTUNATELY, BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF OUTREACH TO NON-JEWS, MANY ARE UNAWARE AND MISINFORMED ABOUT JUDAISM.

While we're at it...
let's talk about Black so-called "Christian" Churches in America. Black folks vote overwhelmingly 92% Democrat meaning that, although they are a people well-known for opposing Abortion in poll after poll, they nonetheless openly embrace very-UNCHRISTIAN LIBERAL, DEMOCRAT ABORTIONISTS in their pulpits at election time and vote for these HELLHOUNDS at election time. WHAT IS CHRISTIAN ABOUT THAT?????????? It's time that the WHITE Christian churches demand some accountability from our BLACK Christian brethren who only vote DEMOCRAT for one reason and one reason only: RACISM AND WELFARE. Welfare is NOT a Christian VALUE. God commanded that the MALE must work by the sweat of his brow all the days of his life and God said, "CURSE THE MAN WHO DOES NOT PROVIDE FOR HIS FAMILY!" Now you people out their in INTERNETVILLE know what we on the Ultra-Right think of the whole God-forsaken Liberal landscape. It's high-time for Christians to show their mettle. It's time to get out of the pews and into the trenches. It's time to put Christian lawyers on the benches and Christian lawyers in the trenches to fight tooth-and-nail the ACLU to the death. It's time to STAND OR DIE as a People. It's time to get off this DAMN COMPUTER and get i nthe DAMN streets. We haven't raised enough Hell; we haven't even begun to fight! We can't be CONTENT with the panaceas of Talk radio and Blogging and Fox News. We have to get in the streets. We need to storm Washington. We need to storm the ACLU. We need to let Liberals know TWO can play thate, buddy!!!!

My Jewish Friends...
Read Isaiah 53. Is this not a glaring reference to Jesus in YOUR and OUR Bible? Or have your closed-minded, hard-headed rabbis just written this off too with some twisted, extrapolated nonsensical boneheaded analysis?

Dear Shells -
Since when are ANY criticisms of ANY group not to be tolerated?
You will certainly find anti-semitism if you keep your nose to the ground and sniff for it like some demented bloodhound. But if you want ANTI somebody, look around you and see how Christians are the target of unending hatred throughout the MSM and elsewhere.
You ain't perfect kid.
None of us are.
You gotta get out more.
The idiocy of walking around with a chip on your shoulder is counterproductive.

Is this a Jew Bashing Forum?
That's what it has become. I'm a Jew, a conservative and have been always promoting the "right side" of issues as far back as I can recall to my liberal friends and family. They thought their ultra conservative daughter was nuts being on the right.

This article written by the self-hating Jew, Burt, got the reaction and the backward applause he needed mentally. "Maybe if I dump on Jews at this moment, I'll get more conservative readers to cheer me on because I'm losing a popularity contest amongst the other hero writers of Townhall and I need book sales bad because I went bankrupt...." Bravo. You did your job.

A lot of people ask why more Jews don't vote conservatively? Well, if they read this article and the posts, what Jew would?! Even I'm scared of some of you and pretty darn hurt by the frothing I see. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but jeeze, this article broke open the dam of anti-semitism like I've never seen.

I still hold my conservative values of course, it's who I am. But after reading some of these posts, I feel pretty friggin lousy about it.

RE: Lieberman
Whatever one thinks of the man, remember his opponent, Ned Lamont, was openly supported by the CPUSA.
Red Ned NEVER repudiated the support.
In addition, Red Ned, never repudiated the blogs of his followers who posted Photoshopped pictures of Lieberman:
>In blackface,
>Giving GWB a Monica Lewinsky.
>other equally sick photos.
The sheeple in CT finally had enough of this disgusting creep and that's why Lieberman won in a landslide.

Thanks, Burt. With you and Prager to keep the moonbats on the defensive, you are helping to continue this beleaguered country in the way originally intended.

The Jewish Grinch
Dear Alana & Friends--
This piece does appear in an earlier form in my new book, "Conservatives Are From Mars, Liberals Are From San Francisco (101 Reasons I'm Happy I Left the Left." It will continue to run on an annual basis so long as those on the Left continue their unholy crusade against Christmas. While I'm here,I'd like to say that no matter how rude or silly the blogs are, I usually stay out of it. I feel I've already had my say and now it's time for the readers to weigh in, positively or negatively. What I don't understand is why when a reader, such as Alana, has a question for me, they don't write to me directly. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and a Jolly Holiday to all of you.

Hate in private
You can tell your kids Jews are going to hell, but you cannot tell my kids that. The Supreme Court has ruled thay my right to protect my kids from your hate outwieghs your freedom of speech. If you ask a learned Jew what she or he thinks about Jesus being Messiah, you are likely to get an answer you wouldn't want your children to hear. That is why we keep public institutions, like schools, secular.

liberalgoodman
There was one Roman Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence.

No one gets to the Father except thru Me
Jesus himself declared emphatically that "no one gets to the Father except thru Me." Sorry buddhits, muslims, jews and any other faith that does not accept God's Son ... (ref: The Bible)

Does it need to be any clearer than that?

Dear Lexx777, when you pull the anti-semitism card and call yourself the chosen one and claim special wrath protection from God, you are giving people a reason to dislike you in particular and Jews in general. Talk to your Rabi and tell him what you said. I bet he gives you more reading and an attitude adjustment.

I’m sad the Rabi in Seattle made the stink at SEATAC airport over a few Christmas trees. I've always had respect for Jews as a Christian, mainly because they always respected my beliefs and never challenged Christmas or where militant, at least that I've seen. Times have changed and they are more bold.

I never could figure out why Jews are hated? I like them personally. My Jewish friends and acquaintances are good people, so I investigated.

One thing people dislike about the Jews is the miss quoting of the bible LIKE

Lexx777 writes:

**********
God's Blessing
Have you ever read in the Bible, speaking of the Jews: God said, "I will bless them who bless you, and curse them who curse you."

Does it need to be any clearer than that? Beware all people and nations who curse and defame the Jews...they are still God's chosen people, and He will deal with them some day, but He will deal with you also for your anti-semitism...and, if you don't believe me, just think about "what is I am right and you are wrong?" The possibility does exist, so be careful in your condemnations...the Jews will be judged by God some day, and so will you, so let Him do the sorting of the sheep from the goats."
**********

Oh, beware biblical scholar Lexx777 has warned non jews and gentiles to not criticize and "bless" the Jew or suffer wrath. I say Seinfeld is a genius, whooo, I said that so I'm covered. Thanks for the warning.

In context of the whole bible "ALL PEOPLE ARE CHOSEN" and no one is "special". You really need to know the bible, the whole bible, not half the story.

To say you must not do anything to Jews (specifically) or be judged by GOD is wrong. ALL PEOPLE are chosen and loved, none greater than the next. ALL nations are disciples and EVERY ONE is loved by the Father, not just Jews. Sin is sin regardless of who you are or who you sin against.

OK, if that makes you happy Lexx777 to think you are "CHOSEN" because you came out of a Jewish vagina, than beware, that is why people dislike you. Those "chosen times" are over by several thousand years since Jesus was crucified and sin was paid for by his death. BY THE WAY, the Jews cannot be blamed for Jesus on the cross, because that was Gods plan, happening for all of our salvation. The Jews where just tools of God's will.

To be fair as a Christian, we believe if you do not accept Jesus as Lord and Savior you are going to hell. Yes Jews are going to hell? Well Jews are not worried because they don't believe in that. Its all faith any way. Jews are still waiting for a savior. Its all about faith and the Savior came and went. When he returns again it will be end of times.

Hanukkah? The holiday commemorates the re-dedication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem after the Jews' 165 B.C.E. victory over the Hellenist Syrians.

Yes Hanukkah is important and of historical importance, but frankly it does not have the importance the Birth of Jesus has to Christian's.

Christmas is the birth of our savior, who lived the perfect life we can not and died for our sins so we could live. This is a big deal. Oil burning longer than it should verses the birth of our Lord and Savior. No comparison.

Jews have a number of celebrations and take holidays for all year long. LET the Christians have Christmas.

What if Christians want a piece of the Jews Yom Kippur, the biggest day in the Jews calander. This is a time for the Jews, God bless and enjoy your time off. All Christians respect the Jewish holidays, of which they have many.

$$$
What do Christians do in Israel? DO Christians demand every one with a menorah put up a tree?
$$$

$$$
It is all based on Faith. Be tolerant not militant and a spoiler. Let Christians have their celebration with out jealousy and competition.
$$$

It does seem like open session on Christmas. I thought Bill O was full of it, but admit I'm seeing more of it.

America has a Christian heritage, not secular. Religious freedom does not mean no religion or share every holiday. If Christianity offends you, America is not a good country for you to live in.

As a Christian I don't judge Jews, that is Gods work. BTW there are Jews who DO believe in Jesus as son of GOD. They call themselves Jews for Jesus.

Back to Christmas. If Jews are going to attack Christmas and want equal time for their menorah with a secular tree, than I have a problem with that. I think what SEATAC airport did, removing all trees was overkill, but I think they made a point.

I hope the next Rabi thinks before he gets militant and forces a menorah down our throat and ASSUME every public Christmas tree display needs a matching menorah.

WE DON'T NEED A TREE FOR TREE MATCH WITH MENORAHS. That is ridiculous. If you can only have ONE public decoration during Nov and Dec, it should be a tree in my opinion. THIS IS AMERICA!

If they wanted a menorah at SEATAC they could have tried for next year, but they threatened to sue and got lawyers. Jerks. Yes I said it, they where Jerks. Yes I said it and fear not being cursed because they are Jews. A jerk is a jerk.

$$$
WHAT A GREAT WAY TO alienate people and force your religion on them, a religion THAT YOU DON'T WANT THEM TO BE PART OF ANYWAY!!!! You are the chosen one, right? Chosen because you came out of a Jewish vagina I guess. That is the thing about jews, they really don't go out and activily convert (proselytize) people to judaism. They feel they are "chosen" by birth. That is great, so they are exclusive, not inclusive. SO WHY THE NEED FOR PUBLIC DISPLAYS?

Christians what to follow Jesus command, "Go and make disciples of ALL NATIONS". Jews are happy to stay to themselves. That is the big difference.

FOR SOME REASON all of sudden Jews need to have hanukkah on par with Christmas? THERE IS NO COMPARISON, NONE, ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T YOU GET IT? Most Jews do respect Christmas and what it means and leave it alone, but oh NOT these Seattle jews. Idiots.

Sorry I don't care if I see another Menorah again. Brightly lit Christmas tree, heck yes. There are so few Jews, why why why force your holiday on the majority that is not jewish? IT's not even the most holy holiday on your jewish calender? WHY? Really WHY?
$$$

$$$ America is about religious freedom not holiday equality. $$$

The Jewish Rabi wanted a religious service and lighting of the Menorah at SEATAC, making a religious statement.

We are talking about a Christmas Tree, a secular symbol of winter and the Christmas session with no angles, crosses, nativity scene or other symbols.

MOST JEWS I KNOW ARE SUPER COOL AND LOVE CHRISTMAS TIME, ENJOY IT AND ARE NOT THREATENED OR WANT TO FORCE THEIR STORY ON ANYONE. EVEN JEWS BELIEVE JESUS WAS BORN, LIVED and TAUGHT.

EVERYONE LOVES AN EVERGREEN TREE WITH LIGHTS. If you don't like it TOO BAD. The menorah is way more religious than a tree with lights in my opinion.

Christmas ROCKS and is way better than any holiday ever, anywhere at any time in my opinion. I think it's just jealousy in many cases. What does God say to the Jews about coveting and jealousy of other people or things? I know the Jews started the gift giving to match Christmas.

THIS IS AMERICA. This is a Christian Nation, founded on the bible, the whole bible, not theology of course but the law and morals of the bible. This formed the basis of our constitution and nation. Live somewhere else if this offends you.

America is not a theocracy and is based on religious freedom. However as a nation with Christian foundation, all (Americans) pay homage to the Christ Child who would carry the sin of the world and die for all of us. It is our Christian heritage, even if you don't believe you should respect it. IF YOU DON’T LIKE CHRISTMAS and CHRISTMAS TREES THAN AMERICA IS NOT FOR YOU.

Is this column a chapter from the book?
My sister says she read Mr. Prelutsky's book and that this is a chapter from it. I haven't read the book, but the article doesn't mention anything about being an excerpt, so I thought it was a regular column in response to the current events concerning Christmas.

Can anyone clear this up? Thanks.

Lieberman supports PartialBirth Abortion
http://www.pregnantpause.org/politics/liebrec.htm

I bet most of you did not know that Joe Lieberman actually backed up Clinton's veto of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. Once a Democrat, always a Democrat!

Lieberman's an Impostor
http://www.vtc.net/~cdgoldin/politics/lieberman.htm

To Grateful American:

Of course, REAL Orthodox Judaism would never allow MURDER in any form - ESPECIALLY ABORTION.
Orthodox Judaism has very little in common with the other two Liberal offshoots of Judaism - Conservative and Reformed Judaism

Joe Lieberman has so many people on the right like Sean Hannity and many on "townhall" hoodwinked and playing the ridiculous apologists for this shameless politician who is the consummate thespian. I have to laugh at the gullibility of so many talk-show hosts on the right. The one who is not gullible is my favorite Jew: Michael Savage. He's dead on target.

LIEBERMAN IS NOT AN ORTHODOX JEW
Just because one claims to be an Orthodox Jew does not mean he practices Orthodoxy. Orthodox Judaism has positioned itself against homosexuality, abortion, and is in allignment with conservative principles.

As for TAKE BACK THE GOVERNMENT....YOU SHOULD REMEMBER THAT JESUS WAS A JEW AND HE DIED AS A JEW.

A true test of one's faith is whether...
one would die for their Faith. Did Steve Centanni of Fox News have the gonads to not renounce his Christian Faith? Nope!!! I asked a Mormon friend of mine this question and he could not answer in the affirmative either. Many TRUE Christians died for their faith in the times of the early church at the hands of the Romans and the Jews and other Gentile nations. I wonder how many Jews are strong enough in their faith to answer in the affirmative. I'm sure most would seek a special rabbi's dispensation to allow them to circumvent even their own convictions if need be. Christ said, "If you deny me before men, I shall deny you before the Father." A true Christian will not deny his faith. If Jews are so bothered by Christians, can they really be that strong in their faith??? THE ANSWER IS AN OVERWHELMING NO!!!

Remember Paul formerly Saul...
Saul who became paul was a Jewish scribe well-versed in the Law who went about on horseback with his band of Jews persecuting Christians and killing Christians until one day Jesus blinded him while he was on horseback and he ran into a tree limb and was knocked off his horse. Christ told him, "Paul, why do you kick against the pricks?"(meaning why do you fight a battle you can never win?). Christ said the gates of Hell will never prevail against My church. As Christians, we have nothing to fear. FEAR is not in our vocabulary. We have the good shepherd; there is nothing we shall want. Let the Jews play their games; their treasure is here. When they die, their treasure will do them absolutely NO GOOD where they're going. Our treasure is with the Lord.

Remember Kristallnacht...
when Hitler's henchmen stormed Jewish shops and synagogues. The Jewish lawyers in the ACLU in league with many Jewish judgships across the nation and the anti-Christian Jewish media - especially Jewish Hollywood and Jewish NYC - is preparing the way for Christian persecution in this country someday. If Jews realy were strong in their faith, why would they be so scared of Christian influences in the culture??? Do you ever hear Christians concerned about Muslim or Jewish influence in our culture??? Certainly, if it excludes or is at the expense of Christian culture, but by and large, NO! We, Christians, are very strong in our faith. We have seen that demons only answer to CHRIST - NOT MOSES or ELIJAH. We have never heard of rabbis or imams delivering people from demonic possession. We know where the REAL SPIRIT of God is. Other religions are just cute novelties of spiritual ignorance to us. I wonder if Jews in Israel would prosecute Christians like Jews in America do?!?

In Jesus' time...
Jews were all about the LAW and the customs, but cared not one IOTA about SALVATION. How times stay the same, "liberalgoodman". Your people were arrogant then, and your people are still arrogant now and you wonder why the Diaspora ever took place to spread your people to the four corners of the Earth??? Can you explain how or why the cloth was rent in the temple in the Holy of Holies and how the dead were quickened on the day of salvation and stirred out of their graves??? can you explain the missing body of Christ that has never and WILL NEVER BE FOUND to this day because it is a RISEN BODY??? How do you explain away the miracles of Jesus, your firstborn of the Father??? You dismiss him as just another good ol' prophet that joined the pantheon of massacred Jewish prophets. Do you just lawyerly continue to explain it all away until one day the truth becomes all too clear all too late. Will the beloved LAW be your SALVATION then??? If so, there would not have been a need for a MESSIAH in the first place in either of our religions??? I am a Christian yet I observe biblically Kosher eating practices because God mandated these for the Jewish people and indeed Man's survival. I am laughed at daily for my eating habits yet I follow it knowing that eating right will protect me from "the diseases of the Gentiles". I keep an open mind; it's a shame so many of the Chosen People have closed theirs. I find so many Liberals to be the biggest hypocrites about "open-mindedness".

It's not FREEDOM "FROM" RELIGION..
you LIberal idiots. It's freedom OF religion. HOW HARD IS THAT TO FIGURE OUT??? Kepp twistingthe words like the scumbucket, heathen evil lawyers all of you are. Yeah, OJ was not guilty, right?!?! Get a life and a brain while you're at it!

Merry Christmas, Bert Prelutsky

----------------------------------------
Bubba: How do you know that???

Wow!
Some of you guys are such thoughtless nutballs it's hard to know where to start. Here are just a few points.

Our founding fathers understood that the US would have a Christian majority, but they did not want it to be a Christian nation. Had it been the next question would have been: what kind of Christian? We all know it would have been a Protestant nation, no Supreme Court justices Scalia, Roberts, or Alito. This can go farther, the Colony of Virginia had an official Protestant sect (Episcopalian?). No, Christianity thrived in America because of religious freedom, not because it was a Christian nation.

Then, there's calling the ACLU the Gestapo. I don't remember the ACLU saying any particular group should be arrested and killed.

Have any of you seen Fiddler on the Roof? They are not making it up that a family would treat their living daughter as dead if she were to convert. Converting is the worst thing a Jew can do -- break the first commandment. Jewish parents want to protect their children from Christian messages, just as you homophobes want to protect your children from homosexual messages.

Au Contraire, Grateful American
As a Southerner and Ultra-Right, Liberal-basher who believes the Democratic Party should be outlawed in America much as the Communist Party was outlawed during the Cold War, I find it pathetic that guys liek Sean Hannity in New York act as apologists for Joe Lieberman, the "Independent" who voted with the Dems 90% of the time, who caucused with the Dems 100% of the time, and who although he was an ORTHODOX JEW who loves the state of Israel as all of us good Christians do in accordance with our Bible, actually supported ABORTION!!!!!!!!

The ACLU is a Manifestation of Jewish..
arrogance and elitism. After all, they are the CHOSEN PEOPLE, right??? The ACLU is insuring that Islamofascist Muslims one day can easily blow the country and themselves especially to Kingdom Come. When they choose to represent these reprehensible TERRORIST characters, it is nothing short of astounding how TREASONOUS these lawyer a-holes can be!!! LAWYERS REALLY DO CONSIDER THEMSELVES ABOVE THE LAW. JUST LOOK AT CONGRESS WHICH IS 62% LAWYERS. THEY ACTUALLY BELIEVE THE LAW DOESN'T APPLY TO THEM!

ACLU is the Modern-Day Gestapo
WHen it comes to being the PC police to enforce Political Correctness, the ACLU takes the cake. How ironic is that??? Modern day Jewish nutjobs have become the NEO-GESTAPO!!! I'd laugh if it wasn't so horrific.

Bravo, Burt!!!
Standing-O!!!

"That has changed, as you may have noticed. And I blame my fellow Jews. When it comes to pushing the multicultural, anti-Christian, agenda, you find Jewish judges, Jewish journalists, and the ACLU, at the forefront."

I'm so happy to see someone of the Jewish faith finally say what we on the Ultra-Right Conservative wing have known for sometime now.
These Jewish lawyers are mortally terrified of a Christian Theocracy State that will be the Spanish Inquisition Part II in their fantasy world. They can't see that the hypocritical Left is the biggest threat to liberty in this country with their insisitence on POLITICAL CORRECTNESS - a prelude to the Propaganda police state of Germany and Russia taken straight out of the pages of Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto. So many Jews today declare themselves as the ever-trendy "Agnostic" or Atheist; many don't even worship their faith or even know just what their faith is all about. As such, many of these Jews have only MONEY as their God and only THIS LIFE as their salvation. WITH NO CLEAR CONCEPT OF AN AFTERLIFE, MONEY AND SUCCESS IN THIS LIFE ONLY BECOME THEIR RAISON D'ETRE. Conservatives should start having protests at the ACLU building in New York to drive these guys crazy. The RIGHT got defeated because they believe that Talk Radio, Fox News, and this Internet are all that is needed to sway voters. If they had any sense, they'd have had massive protests in the streets and outside courthouses that even so much as entertain these numerous frivolous lawsuits and abuse of TAXPAYER MONEY around the country. CHURCHES MUST MOBILIZE AND BECOME POLITICALLY ACTIVE - ESPECIALLY WHITE CONSERVATIVE CHURCHES IF WE EVER EXPECT TO TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY FROM HEATHEN EVIL INFLUENCES.

Harmony
I dont know, why dont you ask them?

Im general, you dont have the right to say anything anywhere. When it comes to civil rights, freedom of speech is one of the most restricted. I suspect you would have to be more specific.

JUST THE FACTS -
This morning on one of the cable networks was an interview with the woman who is Director of SeaTac.
She stated that the problem with the slimeball (my word) Rabbi was not that he wanted to remove the Christmas trees or he'd sue.
QUITE THE CONTRARY!
The SCOTUS has already declared Christmas trees and Menorahs NOT RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS and any battle about the placement of Christmas trees was moot.
THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE SCUMBALL WANTED TO HOLD A RELIGIOUS CEREMONY WHEN THE MENORAH WAS INSTALLED!
And that, friends, is the straw that broke the camel's back.
SeaTac refused to have a religious ceremony on their property which is public.
So the scumball is amazed and all that garbage but is lying through his teeth that he didn't want to have Christmas trees removed.
Just like the Muslimes on U. S. Airways, it was another nut case trying to stir up trouble, only this time it was a Jew.

Burt's column, all the comments
Burt, you're correct. Thank you for your column.

All the comments were fascinating. I appreciate everyone for writing _ sure wish I could have read Kimberly's comments.

It's a shame when I find myself thinking twice before I wish someone a merry Christmas in the small, rural, relatively conservative city in which I reside.

I'm not talking about being careful not offend Jews or Muslims or Buddhists by thoughtlessly wishing them a merry Christmas _ I'm talking about co-workers, waiters, salesclerks and people I meet on the street, the overwhelming majority of whom are at least nominally Christian, and probably wouldn't be offended in the least. What the ACLU has done by years of suing over as many expressions of Christian faith in the public square as possible is to make Christians afraid to speak. And that is diametrically opposed to what the ACLU claims it stands for _ the defense of civil liberties. The ACLU's actions have, in fact, infringed the freedom of religious speech and other forms of expression of Christians.

I plan on getting my revenge by sending the ACLU a Christmas card, too. One with the Nativity scene on it.

The fragile psyche brigade
First, let me applaud Pretulsky's article. A fine read.

I've made this point before (and gotten called a "moral relativist" for my trouble), but now let me try again:
As a nation, we are dangerously close to shooting ourselves in the collective foot, from a psychological standpoint. We assume that our psyches are too fragile to withstand disagreement or dispute -- hence, the idea that to a Jew or a Muslim or an atheist, the mere sight of a Christmas tree is offensive, or worse, OPPRESSIVE, and therefore we must get rid of it, or at least cloak it from view, so that nobody's oh-so-delicate feelings will be hurt. This same logic animates the idea that children who live in, say, Los Angeles, can't be expected to understand a passage on a reading test if that passage is set in snowy climes; those poor little LA children, who can't possibly understand the concept of snow, are the victims of "regional bias," another form of oppression.

Is this not ridiculous?
As a Christian, I'm not bothered by the sight of a menorah or a star of David, or even by a reading of Shelley's "The Necessity of Atheism." My own faith is strong enough to withstand the knowledge that others may not share it; if anything SHOULD threaten to compromise my faith, I have prayer to turn to. Any faith that can't stand up to challenge or dispute is surely built on sand.
Of course, some would say, "But you belong to the 'majority religion'; of course other religious signs and symbols don't oppress YOU." Horse hockey, but let me assume they have a point, and say--
What about those things which DO offend me, which get on my nerves every time I see them? Certain sights do offend me, for example the sight of the likes of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton on the covers of Us and People. I buy neither Us or People, but I have to look at these skanks every time I go to the grocery store. I have to grind my teeth at the thought that some people actually find the travails of these vapid, trashy cretins interesting, and worry about those impressionable girls who idolize them and get the idea that somehow moral and intellectual bankruptcy are "cute." What should I do about it?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
I have every right to be offended, and to hate, hate, hate Paris and Britney with every fiber of my being (which I do). But I do NOT have the right to go to the store manager and demand that the magazines be removed because I find the sight of them "oppressive." No one is making me buy Us or People; therefore I do not have the right to interfere with others who wish to buy them, just to protect my weak li'l psyche. If I tried, there would be only one word to describe me: pathetic.

And I can't help but feel there's something faintly pathetic about those who feel they're being oppressed when they walk through a mall and hear Christmas carols playing over the PA system. What kind of belief system is it that might crush under the "weight" of hearing "In the Bleak Midwinter"? Surely not a strong one. But I doubt the Fragile Psyche Brigade is worried about faith at all; they're simply seeking an excuse to impose their will on others.

Now I'm going to go and watch my DVD of "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

Would the ACLU agree to represent Jane, for one, in a court case it they were asked? She/he wants to sue for the right given to all Americans to express their beliefs anywhere.

Would they take her case?

Pretty Brazen
Why do Jews interject themselves into Christian rituals? I don't see articles about why Jews shouldn't do this or that at Passover or Hannukah. Jews telling Christians what they should and shouldn't do regarding the practice of Christianity is at best arrogant and at worst flat out hostile. We need to go back to the days when Jews had enough sense to realize that they are 1.2% of the U.S. population, and will never have equal impact in a nation that was historically founded as a Christian nation, and whose present population is between 80-86%
Christian. Egomaniacle acts of anti-Christian agression creates the environment for what Jews call "anti-Semitism". What do you call it when Jews exhibit diliberately hostility towards Christian in a Christian nation?

WHY JEWS ARE LIBERALS
hackamore writes: Monday, December, 11, 2006 9:04 AM
"The real question is why are so many
Jews, Liberals?"

Many Jews are liberals because of a lack of Jewish leadership within the Jewish community. Aside from Orthodox Judaism, most rabbis and the lay leadership within the Jewish community have confused the socialist values of the Democratic party with the values of compassion within Judaism. Nothing could be further from the truth. Secondly, out of loyalty to Franklin Roosevelt's role during World WarII, they remain convinced that Roosevelt is still running for a 17th term. Rabbi Daniel Lapin of Toward Tradition is one of the few lone wolves in his attempt to educate mainstream Jewry, but it is an uphill battle.

To JudahGabriel
Hey, good post - it IS kind of ironic, no? That everyone's defending Xmas so vigorously, and yet it's probably the biggest pagan holiday of the year. Next to "Easter" of course. (Ever wonder where that word "Easter" came from, people??)

You must read the same literature I do...(and mystic7, too).

I like the way you express yourself and your ability to use reason and logic to support your premises. Keep up the good work. Whether we would necessarily agree on everything is besides the point. You make me think, ponder, and reflect...and that's always a good thing.

I wish more of the posts here were like yours.

The "I disagree with you therefore you are an idiot" postings get tiresome.

Offensive?
I'm not sure why Kimberly's post here has disappeared...perhaps because she used the s-word (but bleeped it out with asterisks) and somebody flagged it as offensive. I'm not exactly sure where the line is drawn...one profantity? Two? Ten? Or maybe it's a zero tolerance policy. Not sure. But it feels like there is a bit of a hair trigger when it comes to shutting someone down.

Personally, I think leaving such posts up are beneficial...reinforcing the notion that liberals prefer to emote rather than reason when debating ideas.

I tend to use sarcasm when dealing with folks like Kimberly (see my Calvinball post). I don't know how effective it is, but at least it gives *me* a laugh or two.

Kimberly
Why don't you move to somewhere that is more in line with your ideas? Try North Korea. There, even mentioning The Almighty is a crime and will land you in a prison camp.

Diversity in the public square
Imagine a patchwork quilt made of only one fabric -- all the same color, all the same pattern. Yeah, boring, huh?

But, that's what Kimberly and these other secularists want. They don't get that "diversity" means "more than one view." The United States is like a patchwork quilt with many different cultures coming together to beautify the whole. Take away our differences and our blends and you just end up with boredom.

The rabbi's mennorah should have been placed with the Christmas trees and the Christmas trees should have remained. The public square ought to be a place where we share our cultures, where we come together to be the patchwork quilt.

The Founding Fathers were in favor of that. These were men who were not afraid of differing ideas, who were not insulted by disagreement, but also had no problem with holding their own in a debate. They wanted religion to thrive without government interference and I think they would be rolling in their graves if they were aware of the current state of affairs.

Kimberly, I would suggest that if you are uncomfortable with the American history of Christianity, perhaps YOU ought to move somewhere else. I'm not sure where you'll find a society that if completely secular and always has been, but you could spend some time looking and get out of the adults' hair.

another explanation
Another reason that republicans have trouble attracting jewish voters is suggested by Prelutsky's article above. I have noticed the odd phenomenon that jewish conservatives feel the need to show they have melted by supporting the idea that Christmas has been banned from the public sphere.

But it is impossible to look around in the month of december without being inundated with Christmas in the public sphere. That means that in order to be a jewish conservative one must either refuse to open ones eyes in the month of December, or one must lie. And it is somewhat dangerous to go around for a month with ones eyes closed.

I am not sure the mechanism by which conservatives enforce this act of conformity on jewish conservatives, but I can certainly see why most jews would rather remain liberal.

Kimberley
Why should we go and live somewhere else when we have lived here for hundreds of years and celebrated Christmas in the traditional way.

Instead of trying to change everything about our country and dismantle all our traditions, why don't *you* go and live somewhere else, where they don't celebrate Christmas.

Have happy holidays wherever you go, but for me, it'll be a Merry Christmas with my family.

Merry Christmas
A big ole MERRY CHRISTMAS to the ACLU!

Roadmap to Hell
The Israeli's who thought that Bush would be better for Israel still referred to his peace plan as the "Roadmap to Hell." Why should we pressure the Israeli's to negotiate with terrorists when we refuse to? All they got with their attempts to adhere to the roadmap was the bus bomb in Jerusalem that broke the ceasefire which Israel adhered to. We refuse to talk to Iran or Syria but we insist that israel negotiate with the PLO and Hamas. Why do treat Israel with the same double standard that the rest of the Israeli hating world does?

Kimberly...
As always, thanks for your comments. We are all better people for having read them.

Although you are no doubt intimately familiar with the rules below, since you adhere to them so unwaveringly, I'm attaching them here for the benefit of others who may be reading these posts.

*********************************************

The rules of logic employed by the Left originate in a sport known as "Calvinball", introduced in the now-famous Calvin & Hobbes comic strip by Bill Watterson. Attached is an abbreviated version of those rules...

1.0 You may not play Calvinball the same way twice.

2.0 Any player may declare a new rule, or - with the exception of rule 1.0 - change/amend/delete an existing rule at any point in the game. The player may do this audibly or silently depending on his mood.

3.0. Rules may use the following words interchangeably:

-Can
-May
-Must
-Shall
-Should
-Will
-Would

4.0 Any penalty legislation may be in the form of embarassment or any degradation the rulee wishes to execute upon the other player.

5.0 Name calling is an integral part of Calvinball and must be used spontaneously through the game when randomly assigned events occur.

6.0 Score may be kept or disregarded. In the event that score is kept, it shall have no bearing on the game nor shall it have any logical consistency to it. (Legal scores include 'Q to 12', 'BW-109 to YU-34, and 'Nosebleed to Pelvic Fracture'.)

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone.

Jane, I'm on my way to the mailbox to send the ACLU their Christmas card. I'll ask all my family members to do the same thing. And their friends.

TAP001 - unfortunately, even the explosion of conservative talk radio can't help the republican party if the amnesty bill is signed. We can't drum up 20 million *additional* republican voters. We know all the illegals who have broken the law by coming here illegally are going to vote democrat.

They're going to be told it's okay to break our laws, we're going to let you off scot free because it's too much effort to do anything about you, and besides we want your vote. Never mind what it will do to our country, votes matter more than anything.

Read Michelle Malkin's "Invasion" and Pat Buchanan's "State of Emergency".

They will give you motivation to call your elected officials, if you can get them to do anything about it. It's kind of hard when the president himself is excited about signing it. But those books will give you information that might make a difference.

Democracy's have every right...
...to protect their culture. "Should the town hall have a Christmas tree in it?" Answer: let the local government vote on it. It's as simple as that. You wanted a mennorah? Well, make a better case with your local government next year, and maybe you'll get your way. Maybe you can work out some kind of compromise such as having both.

Should the local mall have Christmas trees? It's the mall's property, let them decide.

Should the school have a Christmas tree? Leave it to the school board, that's what we hire them for.

The problem is that even when these lawsuits are unsuccessful, the companies still end up paying heavy legal fees. This fear has changed the culture. Using fear to change culture... what's that called... I know there's a word for that... man, I just can't seem to think of it.

Because of this fear of lawsuits, personal destruction, and financial destruction, we have to chose between two alternatives: please all the people all the time, or please none of the people none of the time. If you can't represent the culture of every single person in your city/county/state, then you cannot represent any of them.

Let the American public decide what holidays they will celebrate and how they will celebrate them.

I noticed you wanted to see some articles on Jewish self hatred. Search Dennis Prager's archives as he wrote some articles on just that subject. It seems that Jews are doing the same thing that blacks are doing; they are both voting against their true self interests in the vain hope that the Democrats will live up to their political promises. They haven't so far and it is madness to think they will in the future.

The point is that Christmas is a religious holiday. For very practical reasons, it is also a national holiday (no one would come in to work, anyway), but it is, primarily, religious in nature--it celebrates the birth of a religion's founder--and Christmas trees are associated only with it (though of course they are a secular symbol of it). There's a reason it was laughable when Boston named its Christmas tree a "holiday tree" last year (and even liberal Boston was rolling its eyes at that)--there is no association with any other commonly celebrated holiday of the season.

The issue with establishment is that public places are meant not to show preference for one religion over another. If people want to put Christmas decorations up, they should be free to do so. However, if they are free to put up Christmas decorations, others are free to put up decorations for other holidays--that's the essence of not having an established religion. No religion is privileged as, say, the Church of England was. Now, in a majority-Christian country, the majority of displays will be Christian, but when a member of another religion tries to put up a display, he or she should not be hindered. I suspect that this *was* in fact a test of that theory--are they only going to privilege one religion's holidays, or are they going to say that holiday decorations are, in general, allowed? Once the answer came back, there was distinct ammunition for people claiming that those who allow Christmas decorations won't, in fact, acknowledge anything else.

"The only reason there was so much 'Christianity' around at the time was because membership in the Angelican church was complusary before we broke from england."

And was this not because of Henry VIII's feud with the Catholic church. So we carry this further, no feud, majority of Brits still Catholic. It is a great relief to me to finally learn that I am not a Christian. Now I'm just an ordinary neocon fanatical member of the far right.

Boy can I digress (is this a Jewish expression:"Don't get me started?"); neocon, what the heck is a neocon? I've been a conservative since Kennedy abandoned the men at the Bay of Pig's. What in the name of (?) is neo about that?

I too have no problem with a REQUEST to put up a menorah or anything else. However, I have a ginourmous problem with extortion.

You are 'appalled'??? I don't know about you, but when somebody comes at me with a 'do this or else' proposition, I tend to classify that as a threat rather than a request.

You are obviously confused about the definition of establishing a state religion vs. allowing free exercise of religion.

By the way - a Christmas tree is celebrating a holiday, NOT A RELIGION. Christmas is a NATIONAL HOLIDAY.

The actions of all parties in this matter are well beyond questionable to incredibly unfortunate.

The rabbi's (and his lawyer's) disengenous response that they didn't want the Christmas trees removed is laughable - actions (and words) have consequences.

You likely don't know it, but you just shot yourself in the foot!

Give it some deep analytical thought.

Christmas Card to the ACLU
Merry Christmas, everyone, and a Happy New Year. I want to thank the writer Jane for the address of the ACLU. I am going out today and send a Christmas card to those kind folks there in their New York office. I'm not being factious; I am deeply serious. In fact, so much so that my card will not be the "Christmas-tree-Santa Claus-toys-under-the-tree, fireplace-trimmed- with-lights-and-ribbons,reindeer-galluping- across-the-roof" type. No, no, no -- the last thing I want to do is offend those good people with the sight of the Christmas tree! My card will be the Nativity Scene, babe in the manger, the three Kings, you know, the real reason for the celebration of Christmas. Thank you again, Jane, for the address -- and a Merry Christmas, especially to you.

God's Blessing
Have you ever read in the Bible, speaking of the Jews: God said, "I will bless them who bless you, and curse them who curse you."

Does it need to be any clearer than that? Beware all people and nations who curse and defame the Jews...they are still God's chosen people, and He will deal with them some day, but He will deal with you also for your antisemitism...and, if you don't believe me, just think about "what is I am right and you are wrong?" The possibility does exist, so be careful in your condemnations...the Jews will be judged by God some day, and so will you, so let Him do the sorting of the sheep from the goats.

naked pagan
Very true. The aclu sues on behalf of someone....athiest, muslims, pedofiles, gay cub scout leaders who would love those happy huntng grounds. Pagan, the founder of the aclu said in the 1920's that his goal was socialism.

Don't feel sorry for us Burt.
Christ told us that just as he would be persecuted those that follow him would also be persecuted--and depised.

The truth is that it is a good thing to suffer for the truth. I'm sure the attacks on Christmas have made many people's faith increase.

These attacks have also brought a great opportunity for those practicing the true Christian faith to convert many to it.

Having to defend your beliefs is always a great way to strengthen them.

cross examination
Allegation one: This is a Christian nation.

Allegation two: This is a democracy where by individuals have a direct influence on their government and its policies.

Allegation three: Christianity is under attack.

Conclusion: Something isn't right here.

How are you defining Christianity? Are you believing every person who responds to a stupid survey answering yes to if they believe that Christ was born is a Christian (some 80% of Americans if memory serves)? If so, are you concluding that everyone of those will take up sword and storm the gates of hell with you?

Most don't care, and some who otherwise would will whine that the game is on, demonstrating their hypocricy by worshipping at the alter of the NFL, while cursing the individuals who work on suday, and the rollback of the laws that allow them to do so.

Your measuring stick for determining how many people are on your side is incorrect.

If you had the numbers you profess to have, democracy would have addressed this long ago, including your blue laws and your holy NFL. Combine that with the healthy injection of paranoia that rears its head every year as sure as the first Christmas music in the mall the day after Thanksgiving...

Eh, what's the use?

Yo Bubba
How many non muslims must get their throats cut by muslims around the world where there are no jews, for you to realize that if Israel were to go away today, the Islamo-nazis would turn their full attention to the "great satan" (that would be you and me)? Israel is a straw dog for Islamo-nazis to kill off anything that doesn't line up with their view of Sharia. Go look back at history and see that muslims have been attacking and killing non muslims as far back as Mohammad and have continued to do so as long as they had the military strength to overcome their victims. Islam is anything but a peaceful religion. Open your eyes and ears. Muslims are doing a show and tell every night on the evening news of how "peaceful" their religion is.

Jewish voting
Also to clear up one mystery raised above, jews vote overwhelmingly democratic despite the fact that as a group they have above median income because they vote their values. That is a similar reason as to why many poor christians vote republican. I would thing that values voters would respect that.

Merry Christmas
The ACLU opposes the use of public lands, employees, and monies to support one particular religion. Why when trying to show that the ACLU is inconsistent did Prelutsky give examples of the ACLU defending the rights of individuals to perform their own religious rituals by themselves?

But of course the answer to that is obvious. The government doesn't outlaw individual Christian behavior, so there is not a lot of opportunity for the ACLU to oppose such laws. If they ever come to exist though, the ACLU can be counted on to oppose them.

So, yes, to someone above, there are a lot of paranoid people out there. Target has apaprently decided that bellringers drive away more customers than they bring in. Walmart has decided that advertising that they believe the opposite will bring in more customers than it drives away. I have no idea who is right. And in fact they could both be right. It is possible that they are attracting different customers.

But the idea of a war on christmas will deserve to be taken seriously only when the evidence for it is one of comparing apples and apples, not apples and oranges. Which Christian religious rituals are banned in this country for individuals to perform? What christian symbols are barred from drivers licenses?

Not getting to make everyone celebrate christmas is not actually a sign of persecution.

Merry Christmas to all. But spare me the tales of woe that it is so hard to be a Christian in America.

Christmas is not Christian
The left doesn't want people talking about Christmas because it might offend some, being that Christmas has Christian connotations, modernly being the celebration of Christ's birth.

The right is upset at the left trying to erase history, and push its wishy-washy narcissistic multi-culturalism at the expense of the religious right.

And yet, the kicker is that Christmas is hardly Christian. Everything from it's date placement (Dec 25th, birth of Nimrod, celebration of Saturnalia) to the objects used in Christmas rituals (Christmas trees corresponding to phallic symbols of pagan rites during Saturnalia, candles on the tree come from Sun-worshipping pagan rites of burning of evergreens to "bring the sun back" from its winter solstice, balls on the trees correspond to the male genitalia of various pagan gods, most notable the Egyptian Sun god Ra), to the myths surrounding Christmas (Santa Claus is a myth derived from several pagan customs, most notably Norse customs, where the god Odin went around rewarding good children while punishing evil children, and also to the god mentioned in the Bible, Molech, where parents placed their children in a hot-coal-filled, glowing red idol, along with a list of gifts they would like, thus sacrificing their children in hopes Molech would, in return, give them the gifts they desired).

Even the idea that Jesus was born on Dec 25th is simply false; Jesus was most likely born during the Biblical Feast of Tabernacles, which would fall sometime in December.

For these reasons the early America did not celebrate -- in fact, in some places banned -- Christmas.

What's worse is, despite pretending to be a Christian holiday, it's now polluted further with commercialization.

The "war on Christmas" means nothing to me, I find political bickering over Christmas useless now that I've found its true origins.

Sigh....There we go
Scape-goating the Jews again, and from a Jew no less.
I happen to be Jewish, and Burt does NOT speak on my behalf and countless others. Ever think that Christmas, and anything based on Jesus or the bible became a witch hunt because of Athiests? Hello!?

I applaud and promote the celebration of Christmas, I love the holiday, I love the special meaning of hope, love and charity. Many thousands of Jews do as well, even though they may celebrate something different. There are Jews who support Christianty and want to keep the traditions alive and uneffected by special interest groups like the ACLU and other organizations. Look at http://www.towardtradition.org. to see what Jews are trying to do to help Christians.

So before we once again scape-goat Jews, take a look at the athiest agendas. Burt...I've been reading your articles lately and honestly, you have serious issues within yourself and within your career. Seek help.

Jane
The ACLU doesnt sue, people feel they have been wronged, then ask the ACLU to represent them.

If I were you, I would be thankful we live in the country where common people can find resolution to religious differences in court rather than blowing each other up with car bombs.

TAP001
Thank you and God bless you as well and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Sorry, goofy sentence structure on my last post. That read a lot more clearly in my head. Where I wrote, "'The entire support of, "Yeah, there's nothing about allowing Christmas to have public celebrations"'," it should have said, "The entire support behind the idea that allowing public Christmas celebrations is *not* a violation of the disestablishment clause is based on the idea that Christmas isn't the only holiday that's legally allowed to be publicly celebrated." When everything is allowed public space, then there's no Establishment issue. When one is allowed and another isn't, then there are difficulties.

Sorry about the inclarity!

Actually, tadpole...
The rabbi's request to put up a menorah was a good one, and I'm rather appalled that it wasn't honored on its face. The entire support of, "Yeah, there's nothing about allowing Christmas to have public celebrations" is based on the idea that it's not establishing a religion... that all religions, in fact, would have equal access to the public square. Once one religion is treated as "more equal than others," we actually *are* in shaky Constitutional territory, because rather than the usual "Take that down immediately!"--which violates the Free Expression clause--asking for a menorah to be added is *invoking* the Free Expression clause. The only good excuse to say no would be if it required money that wasn't available, but it sounded from the article like they were talking about a specific decoration which already existed and was being offered as part of the holiday season. The airport's decision to just excise holidays altogether rather than acknowledge Hanukkah... that's questionable.

Don't feign surprise!!
Why should any true believer in the one true Creator of all earth and humanity be surprised at this bombardment on people of deep, abiding faith? Do we not pay heed to the prophets, or have they simply become figments of our outdated imaginations? Frankly, I'm not the least surprised. Our beginning and ultimate end is plainly written in the Holy Bible. Those who wish to entertain the secular will travel Interstate 666. Those who know the truth will find the road incresing narror and filled with yet more pain and suffering. Blessed are the meek.

Amen Jane Good Post!
Jane has said it well!
God Bless You Jane!

You said it well Burt!
I still shake my head every time I think of Jews and Blacks voting Democratic when the Democrats do not help either group of people. The dems also take their votes for granted. I hope that our new explosion of Conservative Talk Radio and Conservative Internet News sources will help these people to see the light. In the meantime, Christian Conservatives like me will be praying for them. If that makes the ACLU mad then Merry Christmas and God Bless America!!!
By the sheer number of Blogs today I must say that Burt must have really hit a nerve. To the naked pagan I say, Get washed, get dressed, and get right with God, or get left...behind.

First of all, it is not "erroneous". The aclu is suing every chance they get regarding the Ten Commandments and any other Christian symbols. As far as whether it will freeze up the aclu's offices or not? I don't care one way or the other. Send them a card anyway!!

liberalgoodman, a public education was thought so important by our Founding Fathers because they felt everyone should be able to read the Bible. They felt knowledge of the Bible was necessary for building a strong, solid character for leadership. Our Founding Fathers would be appalled how it has become illegal to say a prayer in a public school. What is it people don't understand? It says in the Constitution that the "government shall make no law establishing an official religion or the FREE EXERCISE THEREOF". We are FREE to express our belief ANYWHERE. The government is forbidden to make one religion official over another. They are NOT given the authority to outlaw our free expression. When you outlaw prayer, etc. you are making athiesm the official religion. You are forcing your nonbelief on the rest of us. Allowing someone to pray is not forcing anything on you. You can just ignore it, pick your nose, go to the bathroom, whatever.

SeaTac (cont'd)
In case you didn't make it to the story - the Rabbi is 'appalled' that SeaTac removed the Christmas trees because of his 'request'.

This is extortion plain and simple - do it my way or I'm going to sue. Tactic employed by the ACLU for years now.

It's too bad that organizations like the ACLU and the NAACP have become thug organizations rather than recognize the tremendous gains this country has made.

Instead of re-focusing on real issues, they continue to create the perception that civil liberties are more threatened than ever - a self-promoting, self-serving position that is much more destructive than helpful to those they portend to represent...

if only they could use their power for good...

One of the hallmarks of religious freedom is the right to seek converts--it is the difference between being tolerated and having actual rights. So yes, evangelical Christians try to convert us. So what? They're not breaking out the thumbscrews, and the glory of honest-to-God religious freedom is that, if so inclined, we can turn around and try to convert them right back, and no one has to kill anyone when neither of us succeeds. (And yes, we take converts, I can say on some authority, as I am one.) We can just go out and grab a drink together and laugh about it. That's an amazingly rare and wonderful thing. And if you don't like having conversations about religion, you probably want to find a social circle where it's not discussed and no one will try to talk you around.

None of that has the slightest bearing on being hostile toward something that just makes your neighbors happy. I promise, Christians at Christmas aren't thinking, "A-ha! We shall make this attractive sparkly holiday to draw in those faithless Jews and force them to accept our religion!" Actually, they're pretty much not thinking about us at all; they're just enjoying a special time of year when people get together as families and enjoy things that make them happy, like decorations and beautiful music and, yes, the birth of Jesus, shockingly enough. If someone wants to wander into a church, they won't object and will be glad of a convert, but that's certainly not the point, and when we go in and start spoiling the holiday by telling them not to celebrate it publicly, that's generally the first thought they've given us at all--in other words, we go in and look like people trying to destroy happiness in God. Otherwise known as hillul ha-Shem.

Ever heard of the Pilgrims or the Puritans? There were certainly more denominations in the Colonies than the Church of England.

Anything the A-Friggin'-CLU does is suspect.

I would prefer they keep their anti-American, Marxist noses out of the country's business altogether.

If they really want to support the country, why don't they all go over to the Middle East and sue all the terrorists. Let them see how those guys negotiate!

Bubba
And if wasn't for "the west", the oil would still be in the ground, and most of the countries in the M. E. would be poor.

By the way, appeasement does not work. Israel is there. And with Israel came modern medicine, agriculture, industry, education, and democracy.

Why don't you ask the "Palestinians" to go back to their homelands? (Their homelands won't take them back, they serve a better purpose as "refugees".) Prior to the founding of modern Israel, a Palestinian was a Jew who lived in "Palestine", which was never a country.

Great timing - SeaTac Airport
just removed a bunch of Christmas trees because a Rabbi threatened to sue if they didn't put up a menorrah. Rather than tell him to take a flying leap they decided it wasn't worth the chance that every other religion would demand representation.

Jane: the moslems acted like barbaric
morons for hundred of years.

Why do you think Columbus was looking for an alternate trading route to the East? Because of barbarians who made it impossible to travel through Islamic lands.

Now the Leftie Losers are whining as if that tiny little strip of land called Israel is oppressing all of its neighbors. This is so laughable if it weren't so scary.

America should continue to stand up for Israel because if we toss them to the wild animals they stand against, we will look like weenies to the world. How long before they come for us?

Making sure a soliders religious faith is properly represented on their tombstone is support for troops, and their rights as citizens. What would you call such behavior?

liberalgoodman: Fuzzy Thinking
I would recommend that you go read a history book, but you would probably get ahold of one that was written by some lying Lefting Liberal Loser Anti-American DoDo of a professor.

a couple of things
Bubba, when Jews started imigrating back to Israel in the 1880's they bought land from absentee landlords (ie, they weren't forcing anyone off their land). In fact, they were encouraged to buy from absentee landlords and not people who lived on the land for that reason. Israel,at that time, was a wasteland and the "Palestinians" were mostly nomads. Please read "The Case for Israel". I am so sick and tired of Israel (which is a tiny scrap of land with no oil) being blamed for the muslims acting like barbaric morons. All these muslim countries have oil and yet they just can't survive without that tiny scrap of land known as Israel. Unbelievable.

Pagan: "they (ACLU) support our troops"
Ha ha ha ha ha!

Tell me another one! The A-Friggin'-CLU supports our troops the same way that John Kerry does.

If they call THAT support, then they may as well pack up their anti-American lawyers and go home! Who wants to have a supporter who keeps making goals for the enemy?

Is Christianity Dead?
After they destroy Christianity, the Bolsheviks will go after Judaism.

Great column
This was one of the best columns I've read.

As a Catholic, I'm constantly on the defensive, trying to explain to the liberals I know why I adhere to a religion they see as oppresive, homophobic, intolerant, sexist, and backward.

They think I was brainwashed by my husband, who is a lifelong Catholic (I converted about a year and a half ago).

They constantly mock other Christians (Lutheran, Evangelical, etc.) for having faith, and are CONVINCED Pres. Bush wants America to be a Christian theocracy. Then they, who are pretty Bible-illiterate, will cite some out-of-context passage as PROOF that Christians are nothing more than a bunch of bigoted war-mongers.

I guess I just don't see why they perceive Christianity as a threat - especially in today's world. When countries like Iran have made it a national goal to destroy Israel and other "infidels."

Christmas is not offensive. Christanity is not offensive. Christianity is the ONLY religion that's ordered to censor itself for fear of insulting or hurting the feelings of someone else.

We Christians need to stop keeping our mouths shut and we need to start calling people - especially the ACLU - on their anti-Christian bigotry. That is the ONLY way we'll put an end to the nonsense that is the "war on Christmas" and other anti-Christian movements.

One more thing...
The Jews who are going after Christmas are normally not the religious kind, but the atheistic Leftie kind. But atheists of all stripes are the ones who are causing trouble aren't they?

It is interesting to me that among the Jewish denominations, the fastest growing is the Orthodox. I can see why since the "Conservative" Jews have voted to allow gay and women Rabbis.

The religious Jews run away from the Leftie controlled denominations the way that real Christians are flocking to the non-denominational Bible-believing churches.

Let's not let this unfortunate incident drive a wedge between us and them.

Winter break for everyone
Someone asks: ". . why so many of the Jewish Faith see christians as their enemy even though nothing could be further from the truth." Maybe because Christians have been killing Jews almost as long has there have been Christians. Maybe its because of ongoing evangelical efforts to convert Jews.

Our founding fathers, even the practicing Christians among them, wanted the United States to be a secular state. Yet, my public school started assemblies with Christian prayers. According to the (Jewish) parts of the Bible, the worst thing a Jew can do is worship false gods.

The winter break obviously is timed to help Christians celebrate Christmas, but that does not make it Christmas break for everyone.

For the Record
Christmas trees are not considered religious symbols, and some groups can actually interpet their use as a pagan pratice.

As for the ACLU 'stealing Christmas':
http://www.aclu.org/religion/gen/22324res20051207.html

They even support our troops:
http://www.aclu.org/religion/discrim/26970prs20060929.html

And lastly we are not a 'Christian Nation'. John Locke and John Adams, both whose influence in this countrys founding, were Unitarains. The only reason there was so much 'Christianity' around at the time was because membership in the Angelican church was complusary before we broke from england.

Apparently this Rabbi did not intend for
the Christmas trees to be taken down. When interviewed, he sounds truly startled at the airport's extreme reaction.

I would be interested in hearing the entire debate. The Rabbi apparently was negotiating with the airport officials for a couple of months. All he wanted was a giant Menorah next to the largest tree. Sounds reasonable to me.

But when negotiations broke down he threatened to sue.

This was a big mistake in my mind, because it makes him look like a Grinch. Especially since the airport freaked out and took down all their trees.

This cut-n-run approach to holiday politics points out our government's unfortunate thin skin. After years of caving in to the ACLU and their stupid law suits, the officials have apparently developed this knee-jerk reaction of just taking their marbles and going home.

I am wondering what the heck this airport was afraid of? That if they included a Menorah, the next step was a Kwanza Hut(tee hee)? A horde of dancing Hari Krishnas?

Or were they afraid they would have to include a Ramadan/Jihad display that featured a jolly bearded guy with an explosive belt strapped on?

Oh the joy of the holidays!

Oy!

thanks, Burt...
... and a Happy Hannukah back at ya!

By the way, the war on Sunday started years ago when the "Blue Laws" started getting repealed. But at least the NFL keeps it holy.

War Against Christmas
Several years ago there was a move to deny the Salvation Army (which is a church by the way) permission to ring the bell at a number of locations near my home. They had traditionally used such locations with permission to do so. Because this church does not have working members that are homosexual this was the given reason. A number of Orthodox Jewish men came out of the woodwork and rang the bell for them that year.

When we Christians are bashed in the future we need to speak up. The Jewish individuals that are working against the free practice of the Jewish faith need to learn a lesson from their own history.

It's not about Christmas
With the utmost respect to Burt Prelutsky, the anti-Christian movement isn't about religion.

The left perceives a Christian country like the USA as an enemy. The left perceives Christianity as the glue that hold the USA together.

In order to defeat the USA, the left is trying to "unglue" the USA by destroying what the left perceives as a cabal of Christians. The left trys to destroy the symbols (Christmas, prayer, etc.) of Christianity because like all religions, Christianity relies on the faith of its followers. Destroy the symbols and you've destroyed the faith.

The fact that the anti-Christian movement isn't about religion is revealed by the constant harping by the leftists regarding the "religious right", never the "religious left".

It's all about politics and the socialists, folks.

And they are all hypocrytes too…
Here in Northern NJ, all the jews, and I live in a heavilly populated jewish neighborhood, put up Christmas Trees, and real ones, not fake.

The real question is why are so many
Jews, Liberals?

More in common...
A relatively new organization, Toward Tradition [www.towardtradition.org], makes the very point: Jews and Christians have more in common than they disagree on.

Although Jewish, one of my favorite times of the year has been Christmas: the lights, the songs, the smells, the friendliness, etc...

It is past the time that all this Christian-bashing in the name of multi-culturalism stop. We are a Christian country, and there is nothing wrong with that. Nay, it is a good thing!

True, but the Western Nations didn't...
have anything to do with that.

Israel..
Were Israel a Marxist state, Jews like Richard Cohen would be demanding that the USA defend it (as they did Stalin in WWII). As it is not in the model of "Father" Marx, Cohen despises it as like those of the ACLU, he has a dream that the Jews will own the world (as does his half-brothers - the Islamo fascists).
Wars & rumors of wars....

Yea and North America belonged to the Red Indians. Are you going to be the first in line to give your little piece of it back to them??????

Christmas
I pity those who rail against anything that was great in America. I was born in 1944, and it seems that after world war two, when people had to make many sacrifices, America's values, pride, and love of country was high. We were a society that was respectful, and a people who cared. Things were not perfect, but they were good.

Today, people are very self-centered, and care only about themselves. Many are ashamed to be American's. We are in moral decline, and there is a move to replace religion, especially Christianity, with multi-culterism.

We are enslaved to the god of consumerism and possessions. Being a good citizen means little.
People seem to be offended by everything, and are filing lawsuits against anything. It seems that society approves the bad, and rejects what is good. We get a steady diet of evil, negatives, greed, and self-centeredness via television. God help us.

Jesus is the reason for the season. "Merry Christmas!"

Lawyers must be angels

Not only can they dance on the head of a pin , they have danced on both sides,

I have hear it argued that the Menorah is NOT a religious symbol, then I hear of a lawyer wanting menorahs in a shopping mall that had Christmas trees to balance things. ( Rather they fight the mall surrendered by getting rid of all of the Christmas trees.) Enough to make Scrooge sad.

From Spinoza to Newdow
Yes, no doubt, when that great DVD player in the sky is played back on That Day, the secular Jew will have much to answer for, but it is equally true that Gentiles like Kant, Hegel, Rousseau, Darwin et al will also figure prominently in that judgment.

But even more ominous is the fact that we didn't have to listen to them.

The best way to fight this...
...is to fight it head on. If you're Christian (or just rebellious) say "Merry Christmas" to everyons especially as a response to "Happy Holidays". Make an effort to hum your favorite religious carol while you are shopping in an overly secular establishment.

I'm trying to start a tradition with my Church choir that we will go caroling every year. Last year we went to the local strip mall and were very well received. We'll do a repeat performance again this weekend. The vast majority of people appreciate it when you go out of your way to recognize Christmas, especially when the Left is trying to ban it.

So go caroling, put up a manger scene in your front yard, hang an angel with a sign saying "Gloria in excelsis Deo" (Glory to God in the Highest) in your cubical, Go to a Christmas concert, tell your kids it's Christmas vacation, not "Winter break", and most of all wish everyone a "Merry Christmas"

And so, I say to you: "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night" (Clarence Clarke Moore or Henry Livingston: "A visit from St. Nicholas", 1823)

Bubba
I think you need to check your history.

Israel was "founded" about, I don't know, 4,000 years before the "prophet" declared the world (and it's women and little girls and little boys, for that matter) belonged to him.

Israel
Orthodox Jews believe that the founding of Israel must be left to Messiah upon his appearance, and that the foundation of Israel by human beings is a travesty. Lord knows I have heard this argued often enough in my own Mama's kitchen! These are not "leftists" but ultra devout Jews speaking from a religious viewpoint.

It is true that the Puritans threw people in jail for celebrating Christmas because they despised the idleness such a holiday encouraged. But the current attempt to turn Christmas into an anonymous occasion to buy your beloved a new car or TheMostVulnerableAmongUs an iPod Nano (lest they break your door down and rape your daughter and kill you) is a sorry orgy more reminiscent of Saturnaila than Christianity. A perusal of the Christmas cards available in your local Hallmark Store will give you a clue as to why. Try to find a Christmas card addressed to "Mother AND Dad" rather than Mom OR Dad, or "Mother and Her Husband" or "Dad And His Wife" or "Brother And His Current Significant Other". When Christmas was a time for family, a lot of this nonsense did not occur.

And speaking of nonsense, who on Earth decreed that we need vulgar, scatalogical, ugly Christmas cards? There are sections of Hallmark's racks that ought to be behind a screen labeled XXX for the love of Heaven! Who started this and why?

A dose of stupidity?
There must be a very vocal group of really stupid Jews out there someplace. Jews should realize that the very best friend Israel has are the evangelical, real Bible believing Christians, that are trying to stop the flood of ultra-liberal, anti-Israel leftist that are trying to take power in the USA with thier anti-Israel pro Islamic agenda, the New York Jewish population wanted Hillary, well wait if God forbid she becomes the pres. Hitler resurected.

But you have to admit that the....
entire Middle East region (and source of our fossil fuels) would be a far more stable place if Israel hadn't been founded.

And a
Merry Christmas to you, Burt

NOT ONLY THIS
you also have American Jews like Richard Cohen of the Washington Post, who, in an article during the Israeli action in Lebanon last summer, stated the founding of Israel was a mistake and that all of the survivors of the Holocaust should have been sent back to their home countries following the end of the Second World War. He presupposes that all of the conflict in the world and particularly in the Middle East are borne out of the UN decision to recognize the right of a Jewish state.
I guess people like him and his ilk on what was once the conscience of this society, the ACLU-which,like the NAACP are out of date dinosaurs-are adopting the mindset of their contempararies in long ago Berlin, Munich and Nuremberg." They're just street fighters. They can't harm us. No one will let them." Maybe they are hedging their bets that when the Islamic thugs and killers come to this nation with a vengeance that they will be spared and recognized as champions of their cause.
I don't think so. Talk about self hating people.

I wonder what
reaction the non-practicing, ACLU type Jews will have if Iran nukes Israel, as Achmawhatsisname has promised. Will they be pleased? Saddened? Outraged? No, not outraged. They save that for the sight of a cross around a school child's neck.

Western CHRISTIAN Liberal Enlightenment
Yep, it was the Western CHRISTIAN Liberal Enlightenment that gave birth to the many values that conservatives hold dear, above all else the value of the individual and such. Prior to this there *were* things like the Spanish Inquisition and the Russian Pogoms and even afterwards illiberals like Hitler and his "final solution."

One neither needs to be of European ancestry nor of the Christian faith to value the principles - there are more Moslems in America than in Afganistan - but one needs to understand the historical roots of that which he values.

By contrast, the illiberal leftists (they are NOT "liberal") who seek to destroy all things Western can not tolerate Christmas. Heaven forbid that there be a tie to anything other than their gods of monoculturial multiculturalism and secular progressivenessism.

The thing that Jews truly need to understand is that the Jewish calendar and the Jewish High/Low Holy Days are based on an agrarian culture that no longer exists. There no longer is a harvest time and with the American system of summer vacations and winter holidays, the fall is the most productive time of the year for businesses. Why then to permit Jews to take these days off but for the principle that, well, even Ebenezer Scrooge gave people a day off on Christmas.

Two important other points: First it is EASTER, not Christmas, that is the most important Christian holiday.

Second, "The Grinch that Stole Christmas" was written largely about the Soviet Union in the midst of the Cold War. It is the socalists who have the problem with Christmas and not because of the "Christ" part as much as the fact that anything outside the scope of big government control is a threat to them.

Not only that,
but have you noticed Halloween is fast becoming THE American holiday? Will the ACLU soon bring lawsuits against the display of jack-o'-lanterns? After all, there is the myth that jack-o'-lanterns were once used to frighten American Indians -- at least they told me that in school, along with a lot of other stuff.

Good Article, keep digging.
The rejection started 2,000 years ago at a place called calvary.

Well, the largest Muslim country in the world is Indonesia, and the second largest-- is India. Not Pakistan, not Egypt-- India.

Christmas was not always an important holiday for Christians-- it was the Victorians who turned it into such a sentimentalized (and commercialized) extravaganza. The Puritans hardly observed it, and were as hostile toward creche scenes as the secularists seem to be-- they considered them a step down the slippery slope to idolatry.

Of course you're right about the immediate issue at hand though, the intolerance of the anti-Christmas types, the pernicious litigation-- even the comparison with the Inquisition is apt.

It should be noted
that the Jews Mr. Prelusky refers to are leftists. The farther left the politics, the more degenerate the behavior.

Great article, Burt!
This is the tip of an iceberg with so many issues. The Jews have done themselves such a disservice by backing the dems so heavily, and I've never understood why. You should be expanding this to a book for Regenery publishing. If a Christian wrote such a book it would immediately be labelled "antisemitic."
