Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

If there is any among you who still thinks the mass media isn’t in the pocket of the Left, you merely have to compare how the Plame affair went from being the biggest scandal since Capt. Dreyfuss to a non-story once the crime couldn’t be laid at the feet of Karl Rove or Dick Cheney. Of course, inasmuch as Valerie Plame was not an undercover operative, it was never a big deal. But once it turned out that Clinton colleague Richard Armitage was Shallow Throat, the media buried the story back among the classified ads.

Liberals who are aware that I’m not religious sometimes take me to task for not criticizing the religious Right with the same zeal I bring to bear on what I refer to as the religious Left. (For those unfamiliar with the term, it refers to those zealots whose bible is the Gospel According to James Carville. The prophets of the faith include Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter.) The fact is, I have nothing against Christian fundamentalists. Mainly, I disagree with them on the issue of abortion. But I don’t think that those in the Pro-Life movement are evil, whereas I think those on the other side, those who promote 13 and 14-year-olds having abortions without parental consent, are.

I dislike abortions as a method of birth control, but I think they’re a necessary evil. I’ve heard that upwards of 50 million have taken place since the Roe v. Wade decision. If there’s an upside to that sad statistic, it’s that 50 million unwanted babies weren’t born. That’s an awful lot of kids, most of whom would never be loved, never be adopted -- 50 million kids, a good number of whom would grow up to fill America’s future quota of rapists, pedophiles, and serial killers. The Leftists get extremely upset because they feel religious Conservatives have undue influence every four years, when a presidential election rolls around, but they fail to acknowledge how much influence the secular Left has in college classrooms, in America’s courtrooms, and in the editorial offices of major newspapers, every single day of the year.

Presently, Al Gore is touring the world touting his movie, “An Inconvenient Truth.” His message is that we all have a lot more to worry about from global warming than from Islamic terrorism. He constantly reminds me why I’m so grateful that his home state of Tennessee went for Bush in 2000. If Gore had been president on 9/11/01, no doubt he’d have stood at Ground Zero and told us all how hot it was.

Whenever I see Gore on TV pontificating about his favorite topic, I find myself wondering whatever happened to the grand old tradition of killing, or at least maiming, the messenger.

Frankly, I find it hard to believe that even Tipper believes a single word that comes out of his pumpkin-sized head. As Mary McCarthy once said about Lillian Hellman: “Every word she writes is a lie, including ‘and’ and ‘the’.”

I honestly don’t know how any of the high-ranking Democrats can bear to look at themselves in the mirror when they shave in the morning. But if I ever run into Hillary Rodham Clinton, I’ll be sure to ask her.

For Shame!
How quickly we forget! I will always be greatful to Al Gore for inventing the Internet and providing us with the role of the perfect Romantic in the movie, Love Story. He was also the gracious loser (?) when Bush took the election and he is in the forefront, the cutting edge, of global warming. I find him mesmerizing because I am watching the evolution of what might prove to be the perfect "Blowhard" breaking the mold of Walter Cronkite, Bill Moyers, and Cornel West, to name only a few---and that's another inconvenient truth!

Still eugenics
Burt, I have adopted three children, so I meet your ridiculous criterion, so I trust you'll pay attention:

"Before Roe v. Wade, millions of abortions took place, but they took place in back alleys and were performed by any butcher with a wire clothes hanger."

Again, you really need to be reading Ponnuru's "Party of Death" before spouting your mouth off. As a previous poster pointed out, the pro-abortion movement greatly exaggerated the number of "back-alley abortions." Ponnuru confirms this in the research for his book. Even at the best, most rational estimate of abortions that took place prior to Roe, including "back-alley abortions", the abortion rate soared after Roe. Most of those 50 million babies would not have been born, because they would not have been conceived.

"I opposed Roe v. Wade because I felt the federal government had no business sticking its big nose into the matter."

We agree on that, at least. Though I would hope many, many states would have continued to keep abortion illegal.

"See? I really am a Conservative."

Not with opinions about the right to life like these. What greater right is there?

"If those 50-75 million births had taken place, most of the babies would not have been adopted."

Most of them would probably have been raised by their birth mothers, and as someone once pointed out, there's a big difference between an unwanted pregnancy and an unwanted child. And as statistics pre- and post-Roe show, women who realize that pregnancy equals a baby to raise are considerably more careful about who they let stick a dick inside them.

"And the odds are that, being unwanted in the first place, they would have grown up not to cure cancer, but to commit vicious crimes."

Evidence, please? As I state in my first post, I challenge you to show me how the violent crime rate and deliquency rates have dropped in groups that have the most abortions.

"Until every self-righteous Pro-Lifer starts adopting kids, they should just clam up."

Check. Got my pass. That's a pretty ridiculous way to silence debate, though. I don't expect every one who has a valid opinion on this very important question to be willing to adopt as I have. And as I state above, fewer abortions does not in any way equal more babies.

"All they do is confirm the other side's contention that they're people whose pious concern about the unborn ends as soon as they're delivered."

Better than the pro-abortion folks like you who only care about the unborn enough to kill them before they become an inconveince. I note that in the private sector you find conservative charity groups doing the hard work of helping women and children who elect not to have abortions.

You are a Eugenicist, Burt. If you're going to be one, it would be honest of you to embrace the term.
