Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Pat Buchanan, not satisfied merely looking like a Herblock depiction of a bigot, a man who never allows an opportunity to slam Israel slip through his fingers, has been on a rampage because Israel has finally gone after the murderous thugs and sadists of Hezbollah.

The fact that the terrorists don’t wear uniforms means that every time the Israelis kill one of them, Buchanan and his ilk get to insist that Israel is targeting civilians. Buchanan’s concern for civilians isn’t nearly so evident when it’s Jews who are targeted by Hamas, Hezbollah, and the PLO’s suicide bombers.

One of the sillier things Israel has done in recent years was to fall for the land for peace con game. They surrendered territory and any number of settlements as a gesture of good will. Good will gestures made to terrorists and tyrants are the height of folly and cowardice, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s the Arabs or Adolf Hitler. Offer your hand to the tiger and don’t expect him to stop nibbling when he gets to your wrist.

Because Israel plays such a prominent role in the news and because it’s managed, against all odds, to survive for 58 years, one can easily over-estimate its actual place in the world. The fact of the matter is that unless you were at the top of your geography class, you’d be hard-pressed to find it on your globe. To give you a clear idea of what Israel is up against, keep in mind that there are 22 countries in the Arab League. The League encompasses 5,200,000 square miles; Israel was 8,000 square miles before giving up the aforementioned turf. What’s more, there are 312 million people living in those 22 countries. Israel’s population is six million, more than a million of whom are Arabs.

So far as Buchanan and his friends are concerned, it would seem that the only thing that’s required to make Israel the jewel of the Middle East is for those five million Jews to disappear.

You have to wonder what it is about those 8,000 square miles that the Arabs covet. It’s not as if Israel sits on huge oil deposits. Why aren’t five million square miles enough? I mean, if you had five million dollars, would you cry yourself to sleep every night because you didn’t have $5,008,000?

Let’s face it—before the Jews built universities, hospitals and concert halls, and planted trees and crops, the place was nothing but 8,000 square miles of kitty litter.

So many people are happy to trumpet “No blood for oil.” How is it that we never hear them, or Mr. Buchanan, telling the Arabs, “No blood for sand”?

buchanan piece
Thanks to Mr. Prelutsky for his clar-eyed and perceptive piece. The time to call out Buchanan for what he is has long past. His pathetically transparent anti-Semitism, cloaked in relentless criticism of Israel, has been evident to many for a long time. It's always struck me as ironic that this "dyed in the wool" conservative toes the right wing line of essentially every conservative issue, except of course Israel.
For him to hate such a courageous little country who is doing their level best to fight the rest of the world's fight with Islamofascism,(his proclaimed main enemy can only be ascribed to irrational thought fueled by some long-standing strongly held biases, probably originating from his narrow parochial childhood.

And as for raidencraig: examine your own motives-- while you are articulate, much of your reasoning appears as nonsensical syllogisms, all of which seem to end up in criticism of Israel.
Given's Israel's most admirable conduct, bravery, and humanism, it's hard to avoid tyhe conclusion that those who relentlessly criticize her must be driven by other motives. Look inside yourself, raidencraig.
And one more thing raidencraig: the correct spelling is res ipse loquitur. Use a dictionary if your spelling isn't good.

raidencraig:

Accusations of ad hominem attack seem to make convenient cover for not addressing the facts. Fulbright was not engaged in a dalliance with a secretary (that I know of). You, I’m sure could better speak to his personal life. This isn’t about an actor’s bigoted rant, while intoxicated. It’s not even about a Senator abandoning a blonde in the pond. It’s about sectarian policy (by Senator Fulbright) rooted in bigotry. And bigotry, by the way, is ignorance of the highest order, but I digress. Had he confined his segregationist ways to his personal life and not made them part of his political heritage your ad hominem objurgation might stick. That however, as recorded in history, is not the case.

Furthermore, this has nothing to do with “metaphysical certainty” and everything to do with reality. And what I have been merely attempting to point out from my first post is; Senator Fulbright is not someone I personally would be holding up as a vanguard, in my argument against a persecuted people group. He doesn’t make the cut, no matter how you slice him.

In closing, I don’t recognize anything that I personally communicated to you that correlates with your verbose rant, nor did I use the words, neo-Nazi or anti-Semitism... Is there something you want to confess? Just a thought...

BTW – My reference to irony in my first post was with regard to ignorance. I would not want to sully rednecks by identifying them with Fulbright, and if I’ve offended any rednecks, by inadvertently so doing, please accept my heartfelt apology.
