New Mexico’s Second Congressional District is comprised of the southern half of the state and includes the cities of Las Cruces, Hobbs, Roswell and part of Albuquerque. This large district is ranked sixth in size and spans from Texas to Mexico.  The Second District boasts a  picturesque landscape of barren desert and rugged mountains. Representing this historically Republican-leaning district is vulnerable Freshman Democrat Harry Teague who has foolishly supported his party’s failed trillion-dollar stimulus and a national energy tax that could cost New Mexico up to 12,709 jobs and could cost him his seat this November.  Teague’s unbridled loyalty to his party leader Nancy Pelosi has put him directly at odds with his conservative constituents and in a position to lose to Republican candidate and former Congressman Steve Pearce.

The voters in New Mexico’s Second District have a clear choice as they decide between former Congressman Pearce, who held the seat from 2003 to 2009 (when he stepped down to run for the US Senate) and Teague, who has served as a loyal rubber stamp to the Democrats’ radical agenda, voting with Nancy Pelosi 90 percent of the time.  Steve Pearce diligently represented the good people of New Mexico’s 2nd district and, with recent polling has Pearce up by 4 percent over Harry Teague, will do so again.

In a district where 13 percent of the voters are military veterans, Pearce’s own military background resonates well with voters. Pearce separated honorably from the Air Force at the rank of Captain after flying missions over Vietnam and receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his military service, Pearce entered the oilfield services industry as the owner of Lea Fishing Tools – a firm that employed dozens.  In addition to his role as a local businessman, Pearce is a community mentor who is deeply involved in the 4-H program and his church.  His formidable campaign infrastructure, experience and strong work ethic have placed him on the road to victory and on to the top tier of our three-level Young Guns recruitment program. In only nine months, Pearce’s campaign has raised over $1 million and has received numerous endorsements.

While Pearce stands for fiscal responsibility and reducing the federal debt, his Democrat opponent has voted for billions of dollars in wasteful spending, tax increases and unprecedented government control. Before Teague was elected during the Democrat wave in 2008, the district was represented by a Republican for 28 years. Rothenberg Political Report has rated this conservative district as “Lean Republican,” and it has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R+6. In 2004, George W. Bush handily won the district with 58 percent of the vote and John McCain carried the district in 2008 with 50 percent of the vote. In just two short years, Teague has recklessly supported Washington Democrats’ agenda of borrowing too much, spending too much, and taxing too much – making him one of the most vulnerable Democrats in Congress. After feeling the sting of high unemployment and a sluggish economy New Mexico families have had enough of Teague’s reckless agenda.

New Mexico families will be seeking a new leader in November, one who represents their interests rather than the interests of their radical party leaders – and they will find that in Steve Pearce.

Please visit Steve Pearce’s website. You can also follow him on Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube to learn more about him and the race.
