Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Twisted Hollywood and its twisted parade of tastemakers known as television critics are forever in search of another "black comedy," and if audiences don't embrace one, then they can always make another one. Showtime didn't succeed with "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," so now they're trying a different brand of prostitute. "Nurse Jackie" is an addict who has daily sex at noon with her hospital pharmacist in exchange for Oxycontin and other drugs. She's married and a mother of two little girls. She is a filthy degenerate.

And the critics love it. Matt Roush of TV Guide calls it "a perfect companion piece to the increasingly twisted ‘Weeds,'" as it "straddles the worlds of drama and comedy with confidence and gutsy gusto." For those who don't waste their money on Showtime, "Weeds" is a "comedy" where a suburban housewife is a drug dealer pushing marijuana instead of Avon.

There is no doubt these two shows are a match in blackness.

Nancy Franklin of the New Yorker claimed the new show "feels truer to life than the zillions of one-dimensional (or no-dimensional) nurses on television. It's not just corrective medicine, though -- it actually tastes good."

Let me tell you what The New Yorker thinks "tastes good." In the first episode, Jackie and her gay Muslim male nurse friend are laying in the pews of the chapel of All Saints Hospital where they work, looking at a painting of a beheaded John the Baptist. The male nurse says, "What does one offer as a side dish when serving John the Baptist's head on a platter?" Jackie plays along: "Coleslaw. No -- mac and cheese. No -- potato salad."

If that "actually tastes good" to you, then you should be a TV critic.

Religious themes -- actually anti-religious themes -- surface routinely. In the show's debut, Nurse Jackie lays on the floor, recalling that her schoolteacher Sister Jane du Chantal taught her that those with the greatest capacity for good also have the greatest capacity for evil. "Smart f--ing nun," Jackie says. Viewers will be treated to both sides of Jackie, but the good stuff that emerges only salves the conscience so the viewer can enjoy the evil parts.

Later, a nursing student following Jackie wonders if God is some kind of sadist who wants a certain finite amount of suffering to be spread around the world, that in every place where pain has been alleviated, God imposes it somewhere else. Then she tells drug-addicted, adulterous Jackie, "I think you're a saint."

On her way home, Jackie says in a voice-over that if she were a saint, she'd be like St. Augustine, since he wasn't going to give up his earthly pleasures until he was good and ready. She says, "Make me good, God -- just not yet."

That's not a bargain with God. That's a Hollywood mantra.

Showtime thinks all the fun in "Nurse Jackie" comes when the nurse plays God. She forges a dead man's driver's license to make him an organ donor. She robs a rich doctor to give to that dead man's poor and pregnant girlfriend. She takes the severed ear of a woman-beater and flushes it down the toilet.

As The New Yorker put it, "She has a habit of throwing the ethical rule book away, and the cascade of consequences is hugely entertaining and often unexpectedly funny." Another one of those allegedly hilarious consequences comes when she hides her powdered narcotics in an artificial-sweetener packet, and her boss, anxious to find an artificial sweetener, takes and ingests the drugs in her coffee.

Showtime clearly wants the audience to embrace Jackie and her drug-fogged moral sense. As one slightly less impressed TV critic put it, she is "the health-care equivalent of the whore with a heart of gold." Tom Shales of the Washington Post not only praised the show, but praised the morality of the main character, and how her "years of experience and her highly developed sensitivities are tools she uses to cut to the chase, cut through red tape and cut around middlemen and other gratuitous obstacles planted in her path." In other words, every law she breaks is justifiably broken.

None of these TV critics would want to end up in the hospital in real life and answer "yes" to the question "Would you like your nurse to be whacked out on Oxycontin?" In real life, we'd want this woman to go to rehab, and then to marriage counseling. But anything approaching the right moral course would completely ruin all the "black comedy" fun Showtime is having.

Nurse Jackie
Nurse Jackie is closer to the truth than people realize. As a retired health care worker (OK a Nurse)the hospitals work you to DEATH. Every day there's more work to do and less nurses to do it and the reason Jackie takes drugs is because she's got a back problem--caused by work but can't get worker's comp for--which is common among women who routinely have to turn a 200+ pound patient. I've got back problems too but mine were so bad I had to retire. Did I get disability from the job related condition?
Oh hell NO!

Sounds More Like Nurse Ratched...
Well, what do you know, it sounds like someone finally decided to make the long-awaited TV version of Nurse Ratched from "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". I'll take this lady over Rex Morgan M.D. anyday.

It sounds like you want to regulate premium channels that people actually have to pay for in order to watch. They know what they are getting when they purchase Showtime so what is there else to say? You just tend to bash Hollywood the way some Hollywood celebrities bash middle America. Though for some reason, I get the feeling that the frequency of Hollywood-bashing is larger than the frequency of middle America-bashing. Allow me to equalize that:

"I believe that the State of Georgia is America's sphinchter because of its moronic state politicians and their backwards laws on certain private issues."

There, that should balance out all that Hollywood bashing because nobody badmouths my town and gets away with it. And no, I wouldn't go so far as that idiot actress advocating for Megatron to destroy "all them Southern Bible Thumpers." On the bright side, he managed to damage some New York City landmarks if it makes you feel any better.

yep bozell wants censorship
he is much akin to the clerics in iran.

"she is a filthy degenerate".

is exactly the type of sentiment that the clerics used to demean the female protestors on the streets of tehran.

I'm with you, Mr. Bozell
Shame on Showtime and all the above Leftists (from California, of course, what do you expect!) and one nurse who has a personal grievance she uses to justify absolute filth and untruths on TV! Well, I am NOT a Leftist, but I AM an RN of 25 yrs and know plenty about hospital nursing. Showtime's portrayal of nurses is outrageous and no where near the truth! In reality, that is, other than Ms Teri's personal reality, nurses doing any such things have their licenses sanctioned, restricted, or revoked completely! There are bad apples in ALL careers, but they are the exception and not the rule. Neither Nurse Jackie, nor Ms Teri with her personal Worker's Comp grievance, represent nurses or healthcare. Such trashy shows only demean an otherwise respectable career and seeks to instill fear and disrespect for those that sincerely care about people. But sadly, trash is what sells in this hedonistic, narcissitic, God-hating perverted population of late. Showtime is clearly and intentionally degrading society by airing such trash. Informed people know of Hollywood's history of Communist unions whose mission has always been to destroy this country from within by demoralizing its people. It's clear that they have not only NOT gone away, they are pushing the envelope ever further everyday to finish us off! To you willfully blind Leftists above, maintaining a moral standard is NOT censorship, but only to a defiant, and rebellious people is morality made a reproach and filth and evil hailed as good! And what will you have to say for yourselves when you stand before the Lord God Almighty and give an account for your lives, because you will, like everyone else, stand before Him? Think about it. In the meantime, you all need prayer! Brent at least gets it! Keep up the good work, Brent! Don't let the bad guys get you down.

Who pays for Showtime?
Who would pay to watch such drivel on Showtime?

christianlib
Are you saying that there is no such thing as "filthy" or "degenerate", just because someone misuses those words?
What is your standard?

Prophecy playing out...
We all knew these days were coming and it is only going to get worse. "But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved." (Matthew 24:13) Keep your moral convictions; don't give in and watch this absolute trash that is offensive to God. Reject the world's influence of evil in your life and you shall gain life (Luke 21:19). Stay strong in these bad times.

"But realize this, in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious, gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God."
2 Timothy 3:1-4 (NASB)

Alien
Although I had never glimpsed _Seinfeld_ even while channel-surfing, curiosity led me to watch the series finale, which consisted mostly of clips from previous episodes. It produced not laughter, but bemusement. I didn't find it funny, and I couldn't reconstruct a context in which the excerpts might once have been funny. It was as alien as cuneiform.

Reading Mr. Bozell's descriptions of events in _Nurse Jackie_ produced a similar reaction. I kept looking back to make sure that he'd said it's a comedy. Perhaps he hasn't done the series justice. A slanted synopsis could easily make _Othello_ sound like garbage. Perhaps the material in _Nurse Jackie_ works better when delivered by actors and accompanied by a laugh track. Perhaps clever editing and frequent pie-throwing lessen the effects of the really stupid or offensive bits. But I doubt it.

A new look at Tinsel Town
I have long since stop watching these so Called "sitcoms." Once, in days gone by, there was some talent in Hollywood ie. Bette Davis, Jimmy Stuart,Deborah Kerr, Clark Gable and many others and they had good writers, but I no longer see that kind of talent; instead it seems that the more immoral the writers and actors are the more the so called "critics" praise them.
I find that when the critics rave, the movie is bad. When they critize, it can be a pretty good movie.
What is being turned out now in tinsel town, we should rename it to HELLYWOOD.

So, Montage...why do you watch filth?
I'm neither from California. nor a Liberal, and I nevertheless find myself wondering...why would a person of such moral rectitude and devoutly Christian as you represent yourself to be watching "Nurse Jackie' in the first place?
As one of the 'lib' posters you took such pride in bashing pointed out...Showtime is a premium channel, and is only available to those who knowingly, deliberately, choose to pay for and watch it. So...let me see if I understand your moral stance...you choose to pay for Showtime (and lend your financial support to the production of the filth they produce)solely for the purpose of being intelligently informed (and outraged) by what you watch? Would it not make more sense to simply deprive Showtime of your monetary contribution...ah, but then you'd also deprive yourself of the opportunity to be outraged...lol!

Follow the money...
...Don't waste your time complaining to the network. That just tells them that they have viewers out there.Instead, complain to the source of the money. In network tv that is the advertisers. In this case,it is the network itself, but only by refusing to purchase Showtime, will you get their attention. That kind of complaint makes them sit up and take notice. But in the case of NBC and Letterman,it is the advertisers that are the source of the money, and they rule.

This is sick!
That says it all.

Visual Vomitus
Whether or not it is on a premium channel one has to pay for is irrelevant - it is still low-brow tripe of the first order.

Those who support such visual vomitus on TV are perhaps guided in their morally complex decisions regardomg what is tasteful by the words of Bette Midler who was quoted as saying: "I have my standards. They're low, but they're mine."

Montage, well said!
Montage you said it well. Your critics will continue in their darkness. Like blind fools lost in the woods without compass, they will choose paths that lead them deeper into the wilderness.

Choice
Aas others have pointed out, people must subscibe to Showtime. It is dangerous to advocate censorship because it never stops. If Nurse Jackie is what you want to see, go for it. If not, don't watch it.

Let the market decide, not the politicians.

No Jokes About Islam On Nurse Betty?

Of course not! That would be off limits.
................................................................................................

When it comes to Christianity, however, it's a different story. There are no limits. Mock John The Baptist, mock the Catholic Church, mock God. No problem for Showtime.
................................................................................................

Any chance the Showtime bigs will tell "Nurse Betty" producers NOT to offend Christians? You kidding. There's a better chance of me playing the lead in Jennifer Aniston's next flick.

Yes, the critics
If they hate it, it is usually great. They Love it? it blows1

Much like the media those critics are.

No one wants censorship, part 1
People love to accuse Brent Bozell of that. That's garbage. Brent brings things to people's attention, so that they are armed to reject these shows, boycott the companies that advertise on them (or own the stations/channels/whatever). He also reports on what MANY see as a precipitous cultural decline in entertainment programming. He is entitled to his opinion (and I think it's often spot on).

None of this is censorship. But it IS why we don't watch TV in our house. My hubby and I will rent shows on Netflix if we have heard - and read from multiple sources - that they are good. And even then we have our limits. Just this week we started season 4 of Battlestar Galactica. Did not even get through the first DVD. When Callie, a relatively minor character, slammed a metal pipe across her husband's head multiple times, cracking his skull open in front of their terrified, screaming 15-month old son, and then took the baby into an airlock and appeared to be about to cast herself and the child into space, my husband and I looked at each other, and said, "That's it. We're done." And that one is off the Netflix queue.

(to be continued...)

No one wants censorship, part 2
The fact is that writers and producers care about little more than "pushing the envelope." It started with such harmless things are showing married people in bed together. And then swearing. All in an effort to be more "real." Fair enough. But it has gone WAY beyond "real." As Brent points out, how many nurses do YOU know like "Nurse Jackie"? How many would you WANT to know?

Brent doesn't even mention all of the people who work with Nurse Jackie who are violating countless federal and state reporting rules. Those regulations are there to make patients safer. If they were disregarded in real life, Jackie and everyone who passed over her drug use and ethical lapses would be hauled off to jail. But when that happens in TV land, it's "entertainment"? And we wonder why what seems to be an increasing number of people in each generation are amoral? How do Bernie Madoffs come about? Maybe they spend all their time watching Showtime.

"Pushing the envelope" is done for its own sake now, and has resulted in the use of more - and worse - profanity, more - and more graphic - violence, and more - and more explicit - sexual content. and to what end? How many of the shows on TV look ANYTHING like most people's experience (unless you are a felon or a prostitute)?

There are few boundaries left in programming. One of them involves depictions of violence against children, and the BSG episode I mentioned came perilously close to that. (I would regard trying to kill your husband in front of your child as a form of violence.)

Eventually, I predict, someone will say, "We need to show this character hurting or killing her child. Yes, it's raw. Yes, it's painful to watch. But it's REAL."

This isn't entertainment, it is torture. As many note, it is self-inflicted. But it is bad news all the same. Kudos to Brent for sounding the alarm.

Nurse Jackie
I know that there are people out there that watch these kinds of TV shows and movies and claim to be Christians. Or, claim to be 'religous' or 'spiritual'or say that they believe in God. How is it then that they can write or watch this type of 'entertainment'? They need to ask themselves 'would I let God sit next to me and watch this kind of stuff,
would He find it entertaining'? The answer would definatley be 'NO'!
To quote a well known Christian speaker "Sitting in a garage doesn't make you a car anymore than sitting in church makes you a Christian." By the way, what does being "spiritual' mean for these people??

Perfect shooting Laura
Censorship has ONE source and one source ONLY!!! If it doesn't come from the government blocking the creation of art, film or literature it does NOT EXIST. I remember Holly Hunter ranting like a banshee against Ted Turner because he wouldn't run "Crash" on TBS.

Not a great flick but full of nudity and sick people who get off on car crashes. She accused Ted of "censorship". Then some singer accused Walmart of "censorship" because they refused to carry a CD with a line about some guy committing murder with "a gun he bought at Walmart".

The Constitution DOES guarantee freedom from censorship but does NOT promise anyone an audience!! You have an absolute to speak out but NO right to be heard. Why can't liberals, especially in the arts, EVER understand that?

Disagree on BSG 100%!!!
Caliandra Henderson Tyrol (Callie) was a symbol. She symbolized the deep haters. The ones who would never accept a treaty and later and alliance with the Cylons. She was so enveloped in this that she was ready to kill her baby and herself.

Later it came out that the baby was illegitimate and that a human NOT her Cylon husband was the father. The underlying subplot here was evolution. One both sides (the human haters and the followers of Cavill) were intransigent. They wanted to continue the war till both sides were destroyed rather than live with each other.

This became an important theme as a base ship joined the fleet and the Cylons fought WITH the humans to save the child Hera who later became, like "Lucy", the mother of a large part of the human race.

IF you'd watched you'd see the last ep where Caprica Six and Baltar (150k years later) see a news item that remains of a half-human half-Cylon woman were found in Tanzania. The races had merged and the dread cycle was over.

Bozell's a prude
Which is fine. I almost always find shows or movies he hates to be quite good. Ive heard the show is quite funny and shocking. Bozells' condemnation puts it on my must see list!
I may have to subscribe to Showtime!!!

Perfect solution......
Don't subscribe to Showtime - don't watch trash shows - just like we NEVER watch alphabet news!!

One of the reasons I don't get Showtime
And if you think this show is so funny, how about you ask for a nurse like that when/if you have to go to the hospital?
Then see how funny it would be to have a drug addict taking care of your medical needs.

Bozell is right on
This program brings to mind the following verse in the Bible: Woe to them that call evil good, {a} and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20

(Wesley's Notes

To them - That take away the difference between good and evil; that justify wicked men and things, and condemn piety, or righteous persons.

Hospitals and nurses in America
After four recent forays into the American Medical Establishment I have come to the conclusion that hospitals are sacred places of birth, healing, and dying, and nurses are unique, special, and indespensable individuals.

Anyone comfortable with their portrayal as something less, even as comedy, needs their soul examined.

what a suprise
wrightswrong. go ahead, Showtime is perfect for limited thinkers. May your pea sized mind diminish even further

T .C.
If you want people to stop "offending" Christians in the same way they are fearful of "offending" Muslims, then you must start acting like Muslims. Suicide bomb a production company! Issue fatwas against Edie Falco and then go kill her. Riot in the streets everytime somebody mocks God. Stone a couple of Hollywood adulterers.

But we don't, do we? We're not a hate-filled, ignorant, murderous religion bent on destroying everything that is not Christian. And so, we can be mocked because people are not fearful that we will go insane and come kill them for it. That is what makes Christianity the true religion, and Islam a heresy with attitude.

Rejoice that we can be mocked. It means we are a force of light in the world, and not a source of fear, death and darkness!

really Diane?
I thought TH was the perfect place for limited thinking?

That little button
on your remote will change the channel and you won't have to see Nurse Jackie any more.
Boycotting the show's advertisers is a form of censorship, because you're ultimate goal is to take the show off the air, and thus prevent me from seeing it.

Nope, christianlib
Bozell does not want censorship as you suggest. A critique of a Showtime series does not for censorship make. It allows people to decide if they want to watch the show or not. In fact it probably helps gain viewership because of the curiosity factor.
Your contention that Bozell is just like the clerics in Tehran who express demeaning sentiments towards the female protesters in the streets would be laughable if it weren' so pathetic. You do see that Bozell has no power to order the physical harm, much less the intent to strike down any human being. It's the show he is criticizing, get it?
I realize it is ever so much easier to throw out ridiculous accusations and comparisons when one disagrees, rather than making a rational arguement. Why not try it sometime? Now run along and practice being rational, logical and objective. It might actually feel good to your abused brain.

No, gregdn
"Boycotting the show's advertisers is a form of censorship..."

No, only the government can censor. Boycotting is a peacable form of expression employed by a free citizenry.

Get it right.

More Hollywood destruction
Its to be expected. The subtext is that drug addiction can be combined with a functional life and somehow makes you more "real". "Real", as defined by those with untrammeled appetites, has become a virtue. We have an entirely f'd up culture.

Gregdn
Showtime is a cable channel and therefore does not have advertisers, so your boycotting scenerio is a moot point.
But I am not much for boycotting, anyway. If one doesn't like a program, one should go elsewhere. It's as simple as that.

Retired Geek
Thank you for pulling the information together once again. From my own history in ICU, we had to let many children "go", but always respected the family's wishes as to whether or not that would by removing the respirator, or letting nature take its course which was painful for the staff in general. Either way, my heart wept watching a family make that decision and my faith in God grew just because I felt the soul of that child leave the room.

I believe that the people who will suffer the most under Obama will be the elderly that someone (?) decides are not worth saving whether it knee surgery, heart surgery or just treating diabetes. In our family, the elderly live with us until God takes them. They are not fodder for soylant green.

The government should have absolutely no place in setting rules. Decisions should be made between the family and the physician. If they do, it really will be just like Hitler. You have to think that you're above the law and above the American people to take that stance. Once it is taken...well read Hitler's history.

Don't be a putz, Bozell
Get over it. It's television -- if you want Showtime you subscribe to it. Where's all the conservative outrage about Bozell trying to take away our freedoms y'know like Obama is trying to take away our freedoms?

Oh, that's right -- I forgot. You should only have the right to take away freedom of speech IF it disagrees with the conservatives.

Why not stop all the flapdoodles about TV already? Everyone was so outraged with Letterman -- why??? No one makes you watch TV. TV is entertainment -- not news. "Reality" TV isn't real either - it's all scripted to fit into the time slot. Just turn the damn TV off and forget about it

If you think TH is the perfect place for limited thinking, then I must query you. Is that the reason you come here? You feel all warm and fuzzy and right at home?
Isn't that special.

no it's a way to measure how far Ive come in my life compared to rwcons, thats all. But youre getting smarter, you just change the channel when you dont like something. Good girl.

rosario
You are a bit over the top with your anger on this one sweetie.
Bozell isn't trying to take away anybody's freedom, he is reviewing a program he doesn't like. How that compares with Obama taking away our freedom to choose healthcare, avoid our nationalized finance, banking and automobile industries and pay through the nose whether they succeed or not, isn't even on the same planet. If "Nurse Jackie" remains popular then it will remain on the Showtime programming. Assuming we all have enough money left over to pay our cable bill when Obama get through with us.
Seriously, do you have any sense of proportion here? I feel like I'm shooting fish in a barrel and it's not even that much fun.

This debate is a waste of time
We could debate all day long whether the producers of entertainment in this country should police themselves and whether people have a "right" to any kind of entertainment they feel like watching. And there will never be a winner.

One thing is absolutely certain, though. "Entertainment" of this sort grieves the heart of God. That's all I need to know.

Our entertainment
If you do not like what is available in movies, TV, books, don't buy them.
On my TV if I could obtain TV alacarte, those channels I want and not those that are included in my "package" I would have only 16 channels.
I actually have 200 channels but over the 16 I never watch I will dump them as soon as I can find a supplier who will allow me.
I have not been to a paid movie since "Driving Miss Daisy".
I borrow books from the library and never buy books , but I have shelves full from past purchases.

Wrightswrong --8:56
**I thought TH was the perfect place for limited thinking?**

It must be -in your obviously limited mind- since you so asiduously seek to participate with your obviously limited thought process.

The fact that our society glamorizes
counterproductive behavior and outright evil is
undeniable. So called "movie critics" fell all over themselves in praising "Going Bad" whose protagonist (if he deserves that title) becomess an illegal producer of methamphetamine.
Won't our society be improved by encouraging more of that behavior.
Socrates (as related by Plato) states that society's most fundamental law should be that of protecting our young from ideologies which lead to destructive behavior. Yes, that would be some form of censorhip. But rather than acknowledge Socrates' wisdom, modern academics and their clones (aka sheep) now endorse moral anarchy, pronouncing even the most fundamental concepts of right and wrong as being too restrictive.
Upon making this complaint to my Senator, he responded, "There are constitutional issues here." Apparently, something has changed since the 1950s when some semblance of censorship was viewed as being constitutional.
It would be interesting were some politician brave enough to suggest some restriction on material that is obviously harmful to children. I suspect that many politicians would be fearful of voting against such a measure. But perhaps government is supposed to control all aspects of our lives--except this one.

Thanks for the backup Chuck!!!

For the record
Secret Diary of a Call Girl was not a Hollywood production.

It was a British production that Showtime got cheap and decided to rerun in the US.

Also, Diary was not a black comedy, it was a saucy British, night-time soap opera. Saucy being the "funny" part just like "House" has humor but is a drama.

By and large, American's do not watch night-time soap operas, although "House" being the number one show in the world this year is today's noted exception. House is another one where the protagonist is a drug addict hooked on vicadin, just not a prostitute though. But everyone else on the show is sleeping around in good soap-opera fashion. House does something completely unethical and illegal at least 100 times per show. What say you Brent? House also regularly slams religion and God. Yet, House is the number one show in the world this year.

Which is a nice segue into soap-operas in general. Daytime soaps have been using the same formula of debauchery and medicine that Brent is bemoaning in this Showtime show. It seems unfair to only levy this criticism at Showtime when for the last 30 years daytime soaps have been essentially saying the same thing under milder guise. My sweet grandmother, with her gray hair, orange tabby and constant kitchen apron use to watch soap operas religiously all while eating vanilla wafers and tea. A sweet pastoral setting for some naughty, saucy, sexy viewing.

Mmmm, mmmm.

Rosario tips her hand
Often, accusations are confessions. We assume that others think the same way we do, and transfer our motivations onto them.

Brent Bozell wrote a column where he said that he objected to the content of a TV show. Rosario concludes that he must want to use the power of the state to silence those he dislikes. Given that there is nothing in the content of the article to suggest such a thing, this idea must have sprung from Rosario's mind.

Psychology 101, I
Entertainment is a release. As a part of that release, the protagonist, whether in book or in movie, is able to do that which we cannot.

Our lives are routine. Their's is not.
Our lives are heavy with rules. They break them.
Our lives are heavy with oppression from work and social decorum, they rebel and are free.

And so it goes. Good entertainment provides release from all that binds us during the day. We cannot tell our boss the truth and be set free, we have to hold our tongue. But in Entertainment we can vicariously tell the boss the truth through the protagonist.

So Brent, what do you say about Shakespeare and his murderous, incestuous characters, eh? Literature, entertainment or both?

One of the reason that Christian Rock, or Christian entertainment, will never be popular entertainment is that it must conform. Conformity is not entertaining.

Although romanticism is. I remember when the movie "The Last Seduction" came out. Critics were all abuzz because it a golden rule: the good must win in the end. Not in the "The Last Seduction". The evil lady gets away with robbery and murder, and wins!

Romanticism also is currently on display in such movies as Up! Ice Age, and most modern Pixar, animated movies.

I personally have been waiting for Pixar to make it's first TV production.

Violence is far more pervasive in media than drugs and sex. Crime shows are tops on TV and always will be. They are popular precisely because we cannot commit violence but can do so vicariously.

Psychology 101, II
The point being is this. The Psychology of entertainment is as old as mankind. Shakespeare didn't invent the drama, he just perfected it.

Entertainment has been and always will be counter-culture precisely because people are looking for release with bombs, boobs, romance, sarcasm, violence and anti-establishment. It doesn't mean they want to live that way, it reflects the fact they live the opposite way and are looking for in fiction that which cannot be in real life.

It's called escape. Get over it.

Super-weak Critique
"She is a filthy degenerate?!"

We may be on the same team Bozell, but you'll be batting ninth and playing right field.

Where the liberals lay
I always thought it kinda peculiar that so called "art house" or "independent" movies were by and large a product of liberal money.

Why don't conservatives get into this mix? Independent films oft times are about the way we want society to be, not escape from it.

The left is cranking out tons of anti-war, independent films. These days about one per month it seems like.

Where is the right cranking out tons of pro-war independent films?

The right seems to be catching one somewhat. For every Micheal Moore movie, they come out with the counter-movie.

But that looks petty.

The right should be weighing in on such things as health-care with independent movies, not as some petty response to Micheal Moore, but with some agenda about what it wants.

The left owns the Independent and "art house" movie market which oft times, not always, depicts life as we want it or in documentary life as it is.

If the right really wants to have a say in the propaganda wars in these regards, why not step up to the plate and go toe-to-toe with Independent movie count? Seems to me this would be far more constructive than b***hing about that which will never change, viz-a-viz entertainment as escape in the form of counter-culture, that which we can't have, etc. Action movies are never going away, and neither are soap-operas.

Hollyweird
Of course you can choose not to watch Showtime. However, our youth are forever being bombarded with lifestyles and subject matter that corrupts them. Further, it is a very weak-minded writer that can only write about what we might do in our most deviant of moments. Premise: a nurse who thinks she's God. Mayhem ensues. Please. You bore me.

Sex Sells
As we all know...

- Sex sells

- People with problems and defects are more interesting characters than those who are well-adjusted.

Why all the hand-wringing? Just change the channel.

If you want to worry about something, take a look at our national debt!!

Complicit, Sanctimonious vs. humble
You know, it is difficult to take Brent seriously precisely because he is so sanctimonious.

In this regard, the right is following the conservative vanguard of Europe where the establishment is every bit as uppity, every bit as sanctimonious...and just as boring.

Or "a boor" as they say.

Conservatives partake in all things Hollywood just as frequently as liberals. In our culture today, over 90 percent of all couples filling out marriage license certificates claim they had pre-marital sex, they are not virgins.

Do conservatives take personal responsibility for this lack of virginity when getting married? Do conservatives take personal responsibility for consuming Hollywood products in precisely the same manner and frequency as "main stream" America? Nope. They do not take responsibility. They blame others. They blame liberals. They blame Hollywood.

Nobody likes a sanctimonious twit, a snob who is holier than thou and yet openly and admittedly is doing the same thing everyone else is.

A twit. What movies do you watch Brent?

When are conservatives going to man up and quit blaming others for their own behavior and their own failures? Conservatives are failing precisely because they refuse to compete. They refuse to compete with Hollywood and they refuse to compete with the NYT. It is much easier to just play the victim.

In short, conservatives have no humility for conducting themselves with exactly the same behaviors they condemn. Instead, like Brent, they prefer to conduct themselves just as liberals while watching all the same Hollywood product, yet at the same time being holier than thou and condemning the Hollywood product.

Well, pardon the rest of us if we think you all are just a bunch of silly twits.

Liberals need better sex
because every study shows that conservatives are happier in their sex lives. Maybe that explains the deep seated need of folks from the Left to exercise their prurient interests in a more exhibitionist manner. Maybe, God forbid, they should consider trying to live a more moral live so that they, too, can enjoy an orgasm here and there . . .

Good article
As a rule 'Hollywood' really produces valueless tripe for TV and in film.I came to a conclusion a long time ago that H_wood is a major contributor to the decline of the American culture and Western civilization. 95% of the people in H_wood are egoists and ideologues who don't question what they believe.
To counter balance 'Nurse Jackie' is a show about a nurse titled 'Hawthorne'. Saw it once and it seems to want to address the life of a nurse in a realistic humanistic fashion. I worked in direct care delivery in major hospitals and medical teaching facilities for over 12 years and the 'Nurse Jackies' are in a minority. If they aren't, God help us all; stay healthy and stay out of hospitals.Good RNs are the ones who keep you alive in hospitals. The Nurse Jackies I knew of were dismissed, had their license revoked, and were put into therapy.

You cannot avoid being amazed
as progressive liberals attempt to explain how the world should "properly" be viewed, and how its problems (if they view it as having any) should be solved.
Laying the economic failures of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac aside, there is a reason that our prison's are overflowing with criminals and sex-offenders; a reason that the out-of-wedlock birth rate has risen to 40 percent nationally (and 70 percent in the inner city); a reason that we have become a nation of drug indulgent dopers.
That reason lies in the fact that our society
has abandoned the definitions of right and wrong
acknowledged and espoused by Shakespeare, the Greek philosphers, and religion. Instead, our society, through its "artists," has given its seal of approval to uncontrolled indulgence. An endorsement that has not, as claimed, led to "freedom" for the individual but, rather, to his slavery to appetite. A slavery which, as Socrates notes, can only lead to "a city [or society] of pigs." All law is a form of censorship: to abandon all law and censorhip (whether imposed by the individual, the parent, or the government)is to invite moral and social anarchy.

A Vast Wasteland
Years ago, Chairman Minnow of the FCC declared TV as a vast wasteland. Nothing has changed.

Dignity And Pride Not Political
Human dignity and pride are not political issues. Any one of us can seek amusement and/or pleasure where we want to and should never be subjected to criticism by others because of our choices. Of course, if these pleasures are illegal, we can expect to be taken to task as we are when speeding on a highway, using illegal drugs, committing any crime and endangering the lives of others. What is shown on television can easily be avoided with the turn of a knob or pushing a remote. Personally, I find little amusement in black comedy and don't need to hear filth dressed in any fashion. If that makes me "uppity," I have the same right to be "uppity" as people like Vampire have to criticize people like me. I have been a registered Democrat for fifty-four years, never a Liberal or Progressive, and firmly believe that we are all going to pay one hell of a price for this new wave of hate that is flooding our nation. I also don't believe in any organized religion and know the difference between right and wrong and I know what stupidity is, examples flow daily from Congress!

Think About This

- states that voted Republican accounted for 8 of the top 10 per capita for divorces in 2006. (Census Bureau statistical abstract)

- 8 of 10 highest teen out-of-wedlock birthrate were red states. (Guttmacher institute)

- Most on-line porn usage per capita in red states. (Journal of Economic Perspectives)

All the pious pronoucements about family values aren't amounting to much. My suggestions is to focus on your family while keeping your mouth shut.

Ms Tee
thanks for proving my point. Nothing like a nothing right winger is there?

Sound and fury
All the hullaballoo (sp?) about Nurse jackie and censorship is stupid and useless.

The bottom line is: don't watch something on TV if you don't want to. It's that simple.

I personally cancelled HBO from my cable provider simply because it screwed up the Sopranos ending. I have that right and that power.

All you people who whine about what's on TV are simply malcontents and hypocrits. And don't tell me it's to "save the children". If you can't control your kids, that's your fault, not the TV.

Some of you conservatives are actually sounding like liberal pukes about this.

Glamorizing addicted nurses
I am nurse who has practiced for over 30 years in a variety of settings, and now I try to teach student nurses how to practice skillfully, use critical thinking skills, and provide care that will promote healing of the sick, or comfort to the dying.

I have seen impaired nurses in all settings - and the negative impact that those behaviors which Showtime writers find to be hilarious have on the patient. Too many times, pain medications have been diverted to the nurse, and the patient suffers in pain after being administered the sterile water that has been subsituted for morphine. I have seen other nurses who diverted seizure medications, and soon, those patients - many who were intellectually challenged - began having intractible seizures. What a laugh, right? One nurse substituted a potentially deadly heart medication for valium. What a fantastic practical joke! I can't wait to see that one on Nurse Jackie!

I have had to report impaired nurses who tried to practice care - and could barely stand up during their shifts, and seen many either lose their licenses for this behavior. Perhaps they can pick up a supporting role on the show.

The nursing profession is working hard to bring new nurses into the fold - and to assure the public that nurses will protect their health and safety. We want to be positive role models. This show sets us back to the days when nurses were considered to be the sex objects of the doctors. Great job, Showtime.

Do I think the show needs to be censored? No - thankfully, my remote control enables me to avoid that tragic "comedy" show. Hopefully others will do the same.

And....?
So, Bozell, did you like the show?

...ha ha ha. I kid. I kid.

But seriously, after reading this, I'm left with the same question I'm always left with after a Bozell "morality on TV column":

What would you like to do about it?

The guy rails against everything that offends him, which is really quite a lot. I get that you don't approve of adultery. I'm all for that, neither do I. Neither do most of the people who are enjoying this show, I'd guess. But it is, after all, a SHOW. So, we're right back in the same place:

What would you like us to do?

He doesn't call for the show to be censored, he doesn't directly call for the government not to ALLOW shows like this.

So is this merely a TH post to let us know he's offended and doesn't think it's funny? If that's the case, then fine. He's entitled to his opinion.

Is it intended to let us know that if WE like the show, then he thinks we're degenerates? Also fine. Just fine.

But I already knew that. Bozell's a prude; he thinks we'll be what we watch. He's wrong, but he can certainly advertise his stupidity if he wants to.

I haven't seen this show, but I assure you, if I did, and I laughed, I still wouldn't cheat on my wife. I'm not Mark Sanford.

I wonder if Sanford's seen this show? According to Bozell, he MUST have, because the show causes the behavior. If not, then what's wrong with it?

Just more
of the same for Hollyweird. Making the inappropriate appropriate, bringing the culture down to its lowest common denominator. Just what a country needs to stay on its game, right?

I like the way Malkin sees it as a "crap sandwich" material.

Let's make the sickest amongst us equal, real smart thinking brought to us by libtards and social deviants.

Looking for Silver Bullets?

A dear friend of mine has a daughter who works in the Television Industry - I have always enjoyed talking with her, because she is very bright and has keen insights.

I was complaining to her one day about the mindless nonsense of many TV shows.

She asked me a question: "Geek, which came first the consumer or the TV show. Do TV shows conform to the wants of the Consumer, or do TV shows inculcate the minds of the consumer?"

I have found that tough minded intelligent females, are very difficult to debate with (my wife has proven that to me over the last 43 years.)

I responded: "Isn't Television really just a battle for the mind? Semantics versus Substance? Sizzle versus bacon? Projection versus Reality?"

She concluded our conversation with this Gem:
"Almost all Humans believe in and seek a 'Silver Bullet' - a 'Holy Grail' if you will - that is the secret of advertising and even TV shows, either something that will 'Solve' lifes little or big problems or make one feel, at least I am better than them."

I immediately thought of Barack Obama.

A society is defined as
"a community or group distinguished by common interests and/or standards." Tocqueville tells us: "For society to exist, and even more for society to prosper, it is essential that all the minds of the citizens should always be rallied and held together by some leading ideas [morals].
What many on this thread seem to be saying is that a society can exist in which no standards exist; that Pee Wee Herman should not have been arrested for public masturbation; that
the increasing out=of-wedlock birthrate is not harmful to the subculture, nor expensive to the taxpayer via the welfare rolls. That the false glamorization of drug use should not be tampered with; and that all children can be protected by someone turning the TV off.
You are going up against both Socrates and common sense.

szhome
Thank you. It's especially beneficial to hear from actual nurses on this matter. The consensus among knowledgeable people who've posted on this thread accords with reason and observation: The great majority of nurses are ethical and professional, and the havoc created by the few who aren't is by no means comical.

"Showtime thinks all the fun in 'Nurse Jackie' comes when the nurse plays God."

Nurses playing God are a riot, aren't they? Remember the hilarity created in real life by "angel of death" nurses, e.g., Beverley Allitt and Colin Norris in England (at least 4 deaths each), Genene Jones in Texas (11-46), Stephan Letter in Germany (29), and the Viennese sisterhood (hundreds)? I can't imagine why Showtime waited so long to exploit this comedic gold mine.

"She forges a dead man's driver's license to make him an organ donor."

Sounds like a noble deed, but what if he's HIV positive, or his religious beliefs forbid transplants?

"She robs a rich doctor to give to that dead man's poor and pregnant girlfriend."

The Robin Hood routine still leaves an audience in stitches, no? But what if the doctor was planning to donate the stolen money to a charity, or the poor, pregnant girlfriend squanders it on crack?

"She takes the severed ear of a woman-beater and flushes it down the toilet."

Mutilating a patient, even indirectly, is real howler, I admit. But how did Nurse Jackie establish guilt of the pinna's former owner during their brief interaction at the hospital? If she's sure that he's a worthless specimen, why didn't she just kill him? Was it time for her lunchtime tryst? Maybe she could've whacked him, shown up late for her date, and not received her daily fix. I smell an Emmy. Or something.

Obviously some people think that professionals who violate their oaths, their patients' trust, and their patients themselves are as funny as hell. But I don't get it.

Hollywood glory deviants
Deviants are glorified in the hour of their death. So why is the package reshaping of Hollywood shock to anyone. Protect your eyes from such mess by not watching, listeng to a repenter testimony is a better solution to understanding the pitfalls in life. False created story lines for ratings do not compare to life itself and what it took some to come to Christ, the walk others had while in the shadow of the valley of death, and the understanding that testimony is the report of the personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

The same old argument
The same old liberal argument: If you don't like it, don't watch it. If you like abortions, don't have one. Pretending as if nothing that one sees in the media affects behavior at all. However, look (again) at liberal hypocrisy and double standard. Liberals kept tobacco from advertising on TV, and instead all we get are PSA's about quitting. Why ban it if it doesn't convince people to smoke? Why run PSA's about quitting if it doesn't convince them to quit? How about the Indian crying over littering? Why bother running that? How about the endless PSA's about going green (barf, as if there really is global warming). In the 1980's when AIDS surfaced, Hollywood made sure that everyone in the movies who was going to have sex had a condom (our PSA). Even James Bond mentioned his condom! Why bother is this does not convince people who watch to use condoms? Hard liquor cannot be advertised on TV? Same question, why bother to censor it!?

Young people with no moral guidance, and there are many, many out there (just look at all the single parent households created by the liberal War on Poverty) look elsewhere for guidance on how adults act. The filth they see on TV and in the movies is what they see, over and over again. To pretend it does not contribute to the moral cesspool that our pop culture has become is a lie. I have to live in the cesspool, not just the people who want to watch Nurse Jackie, so yes, Brent and I both are concerned about the casual acceptance of immoral behavior. He doesn't want the government to censor it, he is calling on us to return to a moral lifestyle and refuse to watch it. Oh, by the way, I just saw an ad on HBO for a new show called HUNG, about a guy with a big member who prostitutes himself. Funny, huh?

I get it...
The attraction of a show like this is that it makes acceptable what is taboo among people who value society and service above self.
It gives kind of a "good seal of approval" to aberrant behavior and allows the viewer to a) salve whatever pangs of conscience he/she may feel about their own acts of moral ambiguity.
It's viewing for voyeurs. It's sick. It's another indicator that our culture isn't just 'slouching towards Gomorrah.' It is racing headlong towards it.

itsabigcountry et al

You raise some very valid points.

I might also add that you are showing great logic and reason.

Having worked in the Technical side of Television some years ago, I can shed some light on your questions about PSA's.

One of the duties (valid or not) that the FCC has, is to ensure that Broadcast Stations serves the needs of the local communities. One of the requirements is to play 'Public Service Announcements' several times during the Broadcast week.

I do NOT know this to be a 'Fact' about movies, but I will hazard a guess that some of the things you mention contained in movies has to do with ratings.

This is all very subjective about 'What' serves the Public Interest.

Don't get your drawers in a wad
The primary job of a TV show is to entertain. If you want TV that encourages moral behavior instead, try one of the religious themed channels.

Based on your description, I see no call for alarm from this particular show. A drug addicted nurse who uses sex to get what she wants sounds like an interesting, albeit very dark, character to me. I hardly think anyone would choose a life like that lightly. And my guess is she will pay a heavy price for her depravity, in the end.

Many moons ago
Before the research gig, I helped run security at a major county hospital. I learned that one of the most commonly abused Rx drugs was Demerol because one can "float" for a while but still shake it off and "function" more or less.

Excellent. So Sanford cheats on his wife, becomes a victim, and it's all the fault of the MSM and 'liberal' Hollywood. I love it.

Response to Retired Geek
First, thanks for the compliment. As a lawyer, I have been trained to use critical thinking.
Now in response to your comment that the FCC has a duty to cater to the needs of local communities and things like condoms are mentioned in movies to increase ratings.
You need to take one step back. Who ran the FCC when that policy was put in place? Liberal Democrats. (Once Republicans were in power they put some conservatives on the FCC board, but they are being replaced by Democrats, hence the upcoming fairness doctrine, also serving "local communities".) Think about it; local communities would be different across the USA. New York city is not anything like Ames, Iowa. Do you think that these PSA's were run in both NY and Ames? I think they were, therefore the fiction that it served local communities is just that, a fiction.
Who constitutes the writers and filmmakers in Hollywood? Liberal Democrats. Why would having Bond use a condom increase ratings since his whole mystique is his ability to have sex with lots of beautiful women? And why did the Bond prior to the AIDS epidemic not use condoms? The liberals and homosexual lobby refused to condemn the behavior that leads to spreading AIDS so they came up with the necessity for SAFE SEX. They used the media at their disposal to spread the word. Condom use does not make a movie more successful or sell tickets, it's just the insertion of more liberal propaganda. Now that AIDS is not such a public issue, notice that Bond no longer mentions condoms.
Does Hollywood insert other things in movies for similar reasons? Remember the Reese's pieces in the movie E.T.? There was a huge run on that candy. Remember the movie 101 Dalmatians? It lead to a run on Dalmatians. Hollywood inserts propaganda in the movies because it works.

For zapdoodat
Your comment to baseballdoc's comment about "and that applies to much of what passes for entertainment today."

Excellent. So Sanford cheats on his wife, becomes a victim, and it's all the fault of the MSM and 'liberal' Hollywood. I love it.

Nobody has suggested that Sanford cheated on his wife because he watched shows like Nurse Jackie. Sanford has blamed his behavior on his own moral failings. WHY? Because he has a moral code, even if he does live up to it. Your snippy comment designed to keep bringing up a Republican's moral failure is a tired argument as well: that all Christians who sin are therefore hypocrites and should be publicly scorned. If you were a Christian you would know that all of us are sinners which is why we need the intervention of Jesus to forgive our trespasses and help us get to heaven. I'm just glad that if I get to heaven, I won't have to spend eternity with people like you.

Hollywood Is A Sewer
So, what can we expect from a sewer, besides stinky slime?

I happened across an advertisement for DVD's of the Dean Martin Show on tv last night, when I could no longer stand the 24-hour coverage on every news channel of the Michael Jackson story. It was SO good to see some REAL comedy with some REAL celebrities with REAL talent again! WHAT a breath of fresh air!

These slime-balls and air heads that pass for the celebrities of today and the idiots who pass for "critics" wouldn't know real talent if it fell in their laps.

Junk people making and writing about junk movies and programs.

No wonder America is in a mess. May God have mercy. We don't deserve His blessings or His Grace.

Hypocrisy is a Sub-set of Trust

The word Hypocrisy is nothing more than a Sub-set of the word 'Trust'.

Trust, when applied to Humans, is the confidence or assurance that one can believe the Character, Values, Integrity or Words of another Human, will produce results that are desirous and beneficial to those who 'Trust' that individual.

I have never granted my 'Trust' easily to any individual, unless they have proven over a long period of 'Time' their Trustworthiness, both in Private and Public life.

Trusting an Individual initially, is based on their record, their associations, their alliances, their 'Dogged' commitment, to do the right thing for all and NOT self serving or for the 'Expediency' of their personal agenda.

Continued Trust, is based on their 'Personal Compass', that guides them back to the original 'Course', even when they stray or become lost.

Initially, Barack Obama has 'Proven' over a long period of time that he CANNOT be 'Trusted' by the aforementioned guidelines and continues to 'Prove', almost daily, that he cannot be 'Trusted' now or in the future.

I have been a nurse for 33 years and I agree- "impaired nurses" are no laughing matter.

Over a period of time, one managed to get ALL the injectable narcotics off both Med Carts. (We had reported his suspicious behavior earlier, falling asleep standing up and then taking atropine into the coat closet and other weird stuff] but the DON believed his lies and the ER doc said he was probably narcoleptic). He didn't even bother replacing them with 'sterile' water, he pulled the Med Cart into the room and used tap water from the bathroom. The thought that we had unknowingly been injecting our patients with tap water made me go into the bathroom and throwup.

Sex in the hospital isn't funny either, we once found out that some night nurses were using the OR rooms for sex. How would you like to be the first surgical case in that room?

Teri
Too true!

I didn't get any disability for my back injury either, but that is no reason to divert patient drugs.

Republicans are hypocrites.

President Clinton did not do anything wrong. He violated no laws, broke no statute, committed no indictable offense.

He had a liaison with a women with mutual consent.

The only ONLY people who were concerned by this were him, Monica and his wife. No. One. Else.

The GOP got their grubby little mits on the story and exploited it to its fullest potential. They put the President into the unnecessary position of having to deny this episode publicly. Then they stage managed conditions to getting him to repeat this denial under oath in a civil case. Once this little plot worked its way out, they amped and amped and amped the story up until they finally managed to hammer through an impeachment.

It was as disgusting a display of hatchet politics by partisan hacks as was possible. It also threatened US national security in that it proved to be a horrendous distraction from the rising threat of Al Qaeda and terrorism.

It can be argued persuasively that the Monica Lewinsky madness led directly to the atrocity on 9/11.

Sanford’s case is 180 degrees from this.

Sandford may have also lied. He lied to everyone. Staff. Wife. Aides. State.

But that is not why he is being attacked.

He left without putting anyone into effective control.

He left the country to pursue an affair with a married woman. He went to a country where he could have been kidnapped, killed or just plain disappeared.

If any of the above were to have happened, what would happen to his State? When would they know that the Gov was gone and never coming back?

Then, when he returned, he lied again.

When he was caught in these lies he finally confessed.

It's hard to believe......
.....that Mr. Bozell expresses great affectation for anything related to the press. He, afterall, has become the default watchdog over the heard of miscreants known as journalists.

Mr. Bozell, the Showtime nonsense is the commonly accepted dysfunctional norm these days. Showtime is not on the edge of brilliance. It is in the gutter of shock entertainment....anything for a buck...that kind of thing.

Get a grip, Bozell....and look at Showtime's ratings. The Rap Preacher in Atlanta does better than Showtime.

Who re-elects their trash?
Democrat politician D and Republican politician R are both caught in the same kind of sexual shenanigan.

R gets called every name in the book including "hypocrite" (by Democrats) adulterer, sleazy etc. Republicans expect him to fall on his sword career- wise and he does.

D is not called a hypocrite because Dems have no standards for themselves. D is re-elected.

Conclusion: Democrats have no moral stature and are flaming hypocrites for slagging Republicans who at least take their trash out while Democrats routinely re-elect theirs.

And...?
Lots of pontificating here. And I'm left with the same question:

What is it you would propose to do about this TV program, conservatives?

Ban it? Surely you don't mean that the GUBMINT should step in and run television? You KNOW the Gubmint can't run anything...except the military. Interesting how conservatives always thump the bible of the troops. The greatest military on the planet. Run by the Gubmint.

But I digress....

What should we do about Nurse Jackie? I hear a LOT of complaining. But no one has suggested censorship. For that, I commend you. But that leaves us with just one answer:

You don't like it, don't intend to watch it, and don't think much of people who do. But you respect their right to make their own decisions, even if you consider them immoral.

Does that apply? Does it apply to abortion? Gay Marriage? Drug use? And any other activity you deem immoral, but which doesn't affect the rights of others?

Or do you advocate censorship?

Help me out here.

Zapp
>President Clinton did not do anything wrong. >He violated no laws, broke no statute, >committed no indictable offense.

Let's see, he lied under oath.

But, in any event, do you see any way his actions could be a security risk?

Try to stay on task, and be intellectually honest.

censorship
I do not advocate government censorship.

Ordinarily I would write the sponsors and tell them I would not buy their products; if they continued to sponsor this show, which offends me as a nurse. Since it comes on Sho Time, which I do not subscribe to, I will just ignore it.

soliton
"But, in any event, do you see any way his actions could be a security risk?"

Was R. Wilson R. a security risk?

I remember reading something about Iran-Contra a few years ago in a magazine. It involved Ronald Reagan usurping the Constitution of the United States of America. Congress is supposed to control the purse strings for the United States. Ronald Reagan thwarted it by trading arms to Iran for some cold cash that could then be transferred to the Contras in Nicaragua.

However, the article failed to mention the appeasement policy of Mr. Reagan. He GAVE the Islamic Republic of Iran fighter plane parts and other weaponry! How long do you think it took the Mullahs of Iran to figure out that the more hostages their various proxies took then the more weapons would be given to them?

Is it any wonder that the 1980's was a decade filled with Americans being taken hostage?

Paula
OK,I appreciate that. "Just ignore it" is probably the right course of action if you don't like the show.

But many here are arguing (I would say Bozell too) that this show INFLUENCES bad behavior. He's constantly on about how young, impressionable minds will be corrupted by stuff like this. I don't buy that for a second, and maybe you don't either. But let's say for a second that you do. So for this typeof thinking, this show causes HARM...does damage.

Abortion opponents (and I'm not strong supporter of abortion rights. I understand the opposing point of view and respect it. But just because the example works) claim that abortion does HARM. Kills a baby. Or, take gay marriage. Conservatives say that will harm hetero marriage (now on this one, I'm clear as a bell: That's total BS). But again, if you adopt that way of thinking, to be consistent with your "just ignore it" position on a TV show you find offensive, if you think that show cause harm and you just ignore it, why is abortion or gay marriage any different?

Snake Seduced Adam & Eve, Too!
Compromise if you want to you have a free will. Rationalize if you want to you have a free will. Tolerate abortions if you want to, you have the right to free choice. Mock and trample on God, His Ten Commandments which are the true universal laws; the Bible; prayers; and be as filthy mouthed or behaved as you like and then you can say that it's because you compromise; you are rational; and you tolerate both sides and you made your own choices. But, in the end, your children are the victims of your choices, compromises, tolerance, and rationalizations and the unborn babies have no choices.

But...
She's cute isn't she?

At least the show will probably fail.
Almost all the nurses who have commented here disdain the show. I think Montage said it all best. The commies and other America-haters are hard at work in showbiz, as in other industries. This is just part of the agenda.

But I don't think we need to worry much about Nurse Jackie. This show won't succeed because it's a carbon copy of House, about the shrewd, witty, and often abrasive doctor popping Vicodin for a bad leg, who always finds the cure no one else can, like clockwork, by the end of the show. People watch and tolerate House, because he finds the cure. Nurse Jackie, on the other hand, seems just a witty pain with no redeeming qualities.

The dark comedy may seem witty, but there is nothing realistic about it. It does not represent the positive and uncomplicated spirit of past shows about health care professionals, nor obviously the way the most professionals more or less conduct themselves. If a stupid A** ever had an intelligent thing to say, he/she would sound like Jackie/House. And that's about as real as they are.

At least now we know what type of role to expect an actress to play, if she recently played the role of a gangster wife.

Health care type shows we would better benefit from seeing would focus on the big problem areas of health care, rather than just ones that only show very competent professionals without greed who also have some degree of respect for their patients.

Entertainment industry
They ran out of new and novel plots and serve trash that fills the time spaces. Has anyone seen a good movie lately?

Zappy the revisionist
"President Clinton did not do anything wrong. He violated no laws, broke no statute, committed no indictable offense." Zappydoodat

I only wish that such an absurd statement from a hack troll from Kennedyland would convince enough people that he is just another Mario type worthy of no engagement.

I happen to think that impeachment led us to where we are today and was terribly misguided. That, however, does not exonerate the guilty sex fiend that ran the Federal government.

Clinton the security threat
It's bad enough that he indulged in sex talk with Monica on an open line from the Oval Office, and that even Milosevich the war criminal had a transcript, but he compromised our national security as well as our national reputation. Read Dereliction of Duty by Lt. Col Patterson, who carried the nuclear football while Clinton was president. It will scare the pants off of you. So, yes, zapdoodat, Clinton was a security threat. First a Democratic horndog and now a Marxist. Thanks for nothing.

Clinton and ethics
Zapdoodat is fierce in his rationalization for Clinton saying that Clinton committed no crime, uh, other than lying under oath and that was because Republicans made him do it. Right. However, back to my point, Clinton committed ethical and moral breaches as President. That is why he lost his law license in Arkansas and was stricken from the rolls of attorneys who can practice before the US Supreme Court. But you just go ahead and tout him as a great American, and then we'll all know without asking that you are a Democrat.

ZappyDipWad!!
Clinton LIED in a SWORN DEPOSITION you moron. THAT is illegal ANYWHERE. He also wrote a FALSE deposition for Monica Lewinsky to sign so he not only COMMITTED perjury but he also SUBORNED perjury.

Idiots like YOU wanted to excuse it saying it was "just about sex" but want to crucify Mark Sanford for the SAME thing. You NO LONGER get to have it both ways. This is NOT 1992 with NO alternative outlets for information.

Hey Bozell....
Did you enjoy 'Bewitched' a family friendly show about a housewife that was a WITCH and an obviously gay Uncle Arthur ?

What about 'Gunsmoke' that had a lead character as a lovable prostitute and a love interest to Marshall Dillion. ? or another character 'Festus' that was perpetually drunk ?

How about those shows put out by NewsCorp that owns FoxNews and the FoxChannel..... shows like the irreverent Simpsons and Family Guy ?

Can you spare a rant for Rupert Murdoch for playing both sides of that Fence ?

Turn It Off
Our family used to watch lots of TV. Then a local wildfire wiped out our electricity for a month, and we detoxed. Had longer dinner conversations. Started more projects. Kids got more creative with their time. More importantly, they stopped looking to TV for their opinions. We will never go back. Thanks Mr Bozell for trying to point out just how corrosive TV is.

Nurse Jackie is Now Spokesman for Obama
What is worse than this about Good Old Nurse Jackie, is that the MSM is using her as a spokes person to talk about and promote Obama's
Socialized Health Care Scam.

Andrea Mitchell of the NBC network interviewed this actress who plays Nurse Jackie. Good old Andrea was discussing Obama Care with this nitwit in a serious fashion as if she truly knew anything at all about nursing, medical care, or anything else of consequence. This nitwit actress whose last name is Falco, I think, told Andrea that in playing the part of Jackie, the Whoar Drug Addict Degnerate Nurse, that it gave her new insights into the healthcare problems that America Faces.

Well, the part of the problem is that in Government Run Hospitals, such as the one Good Old Jackie works in, this sort of behavior is common place. Good Old Jackie, the Degenerate Drug Addict, is the Rule and not The Exception.

Nurse Jackie is actually the Best Testimonial as to why We Never Want Obama Care in America.

Great Post Cathy in Ca
You are exactly right Cathy. If you have small children, you especially should turn The Tube Off. There is absolutely nothing produced in Holly Weird fit for children. Children do have imprsssionable minds, and at early ages, they are learning from the inputs into these minds and the inputs, whether positive or negative, are creating realities in their minds, and the realities remain until they can be shaken loose from them.

This is also a very good reason to keep your children away from programs, day schools, etc. Especially, keep them out of government Day Schools and Programs such as Head Start. The government-run day schools are starting them out early with their brainwashing. This is the reason that under the Obama Education Plan, he is advocating Mandatory Day Schools for children as you as age 2. Mandatory, and not voluntary. Obama and his folks do not want to leave Even One Child Left Behind Who has Not Been Thoroughy Brainwashed and Dumbed Down Into Being Good Little Government-Dependent Socialists. And, who is Obama's Educational Consultant? Bill Ayers, Home Grown Domestic Anti-American Terrorist, who now teaches Early Childhood Education Courses at the University of Illinois, Chicago Campus. Case Closed.

Thanks Bozell
This may be a good show. I'll have to check it out. It certainly sounds more moral than your god fogged moral senselessness. You should learn to lighten up and not take your own degeneracy so seriously.

"Comrades! We must abolish the cult of the individual decisively, once and for all." -- Soviet Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev, addressing the 20th Congress of the Soviet Communist Party, 2-25-56

Khrushchev was referring to a sort of hero worship, not the freedom-loving individualism you imply. But since you choose to misapply the quote I'll follow suit.

And the truth is, Khrushchev words -- as you interpret them -- are out of the Republican playbook, not the Democrat's playbook. Just read Bork's Slouching Towards Gomorrah, Weigel's The Cube and the Cathedral, or Santorum's It Takes a Family. Republicans are at war with the cult of the individual which they usually call "radical individualism". It's Republicans who have the collectivist spirit. It's they who want to blend into "the body of Christ." Bozell's article is one more tirade against the individual. In the Republican view, if workers would just conform, everything would be okay. But like all collectivists, their cure is not meant for the individual at all. Because for today's Republicans (and to corrupt Reagan's words) the individual is not the solution to our problems, the individual *is* the problem.

It's not exactly what Khrushchev was referring to, because that was a sort of hero worship. But since you choose to

Sanford, however, did not resign his position as South Carolina's Chief Executive. That has foes on both sides of the political aisle crying foul (a shameless reference to his alleged dove hunting trip to Argentina).

This was also different from the position Sanford took in 1998 when then-President Bill Clinton was caught in an affair with intern Monica Lewinsky. In a Post-Courier article (9/12/98) Sanford is quoted as saying "it would be much better for the country and him personally (to resign). I come from the business side. If you had a chairman or president in the business world facing these allegations, he'd be gone. "

Sanford served in Congress from 1995-2001 and voted for three of the four articles of impeachment against Clinton.

In a June 4 interview with FOX News, Sanford talked about the impeachment of former President Clinton and the Monica Lewinsky affair. Here's a sampling of what the governor said:

"I think that there were enough sordid details to get people genuinely ticked off at... the irreverence for the office. "

"You know, if somebody's getting (oral sex) in... the Oval Office... that's enough to tick off pretty much every soccer mom in America, and a whole lot of soccer dads."

"You ask any guy, particularly one in office, 'You've been screwing around on your wife?' Maybe there's 1 percent or maybe there's 2 percent or maybe there's 5 percent. But 95 percent of the time, whoever it is, is gonna say 'No.' And so, I think the public said no matter what Clinton did, whether he did or he didn't do whatever it was that happened with Monica Lewinsky, is that guy gonna stand up and admit it? They said no, he's not."

"As the New Yorker Put It..."
She has the habit of throwing the ethical book away. That is what most "entertainment" media does; throw ethics and values away.
To pretend that media does not effect the people who watch it is simply stupid. Why so many un-wed mothers? Could it be due to programming that glorifies un-wed mothers? Why so many drug addicted, wife/girlfriend beating men? Could it be due to the violent, mysoginist rap music that is listened to? The list goes on.
For any society to continue to push gratuitous sex, violence and irresponsibility is suicide. Societies need values and standards by which to govern themselves. Without them, the society will eventually fail.
Our moral and value neutral media is perpatrating a direct assault on our civil society all in the name of progressivism and free speech. I hope the progressives enjoy the chaos that will ensue if it is not stopped.

Mark Sanford went back to work on Friday, giving his cabinet a lecture on personal responsibility and comparing himself to King David, who “fell mightily ... in very, very significant ways but then picked up the pieces and built from there.”

Actually, the one thing David didn’t do after his adulterous fall was build, because he was forbidden by God to construct his dream temple in Jerusalem.

Sanford should give his piety a rest. He told his cabinet that the Psalms taught him humility. (There’s a chance that a younger Argentine boyfriend of Maria’s also taught him humility, by jealously hacking into her e-mail account and leaking the governor’s missives.)

Sanford can be truly humble only if he stops dictating to others, who also have desires and weaknesses, how to behave in their private lives.

The Republican Party will never revive itself until its sanctimonious pantheon — Sanford, Gingrich, Limbaugh, Palin, Ensign, Vitter and hypocrites yet to be exposed — stop being two-faced.

m.a.
"Why so many drug addicted, wife/girlfriend beating men? Could it be due to the violent, mysoginist rap music that is listened to?"

I too wish inane rap would go away, but I wonder if you have similar complaints about the way men beat up on women in 1930s movies? Even Gone With the Wind had its misogynistic elements.

LIMBAUGH: Mark Sanford had just tried to fight the stimulus money coming to South Carolina. He didn't want any part of it. He lost the battle and said "What the hell? The Federal government is taking over! I want to enjoy life!"

And it goes on from there. Apparently, it's all President Barack Obama's fault, for killing people's "spirit," and making them so "fed up" with the SADNESS that they've got no other choice but to abdicate their grown-up responsibilities and start philandering "before Obama takes away their money" and "their house." And Bill Clinton was in Argentina "the other night," too! So everyone is going to Buenos Aires, for succor. It will be a marvel and a wonder if any 2012 contender hasn't logged some serious time with Latin American mistresses.

Anyway, I think we can all agree that this is a very cunning plan by President Obama, who somehow managed to depress Sanford's spirits so much that he started having an affair months before Obama even became President and started enacting policies.

Don't worry about it lefty. It is you guys on the left that have to put labels on folks such as Jews, Afro-Americans, Latino-Americans, Jewish-Americans, Native-Americans, etc.

I am a conservative and all I see are other Americans, some good, some bad based on character. It is you loons on the left who keep bringing up nationalities and races.

Whether or not Hollywood is run by Whites, Non-Whites, Christians, Muslims, Jews, or Atheists, hardly any of the Hollywood Gang who produce and direct movies, have very much character, and most of the garbage they produce is sleaze and on every occasion they get, they use movies, TV shows, etc. to slam people who have morals or conservative values, and they also take every opportunity to Attack the United States and it's history and traditions.

Even the TV shows such as Brothers and Sisters, make the LIberal Democrats out to be the good guys while always making it look as if the Republicans are always corrupt, evil or immoral. This is how Hollywood operates today, and I do not care what religion or non religion they profess.

And, the majority of the Hollywood so-called Stars, are left leaning and have no morals, and yet always have Leftist Political Views. This is why so many people who lack any sort of morals or religious convictions choose to be Liberals. Liberalism is a philosophy that makes Immoral People with no convictions, loyalties, or patriotism comfortable with themselves, as they do not have to be responsible for anything.

Ditto to Keep The Change
Hey Keep The Change, the best thing you can do is to ignore the Loons of The Left who come on this site. I posted this a couple of months back referring to one of the Leftist Loons named Lonnie who comes on this site trying to be cute or clever. It applies as well here, so I will repost:

Ignore Loony Lonny. He is a Devil's Advocate and is eating up the attention. He is like anyother attention-seeking child. He does not care if the attention is good or bad, it is still attention. As a teacher of students with emotional and behavior disoders, which only means that they are emotionally immature, I use a technique that works with adolescents called Planned Ignoring. No matter how annoying or obnoxious the child behaves, short of physically harming self or others, he is ignored and after he is ignored long enough, he will begin to stop with the annoying, obnoxious or other negative behaviors. The attention seeking child may not change in all settings, but he will change while in my classroom which I am responsible for managing. In time, he may end the annoying behaviors and only expect attention when appropriate. So, the way that this applies to Lonny is this: He may stop acting like a jerk on this site and go to some other site and start up with his annoying and obnoxious behaviors elsewhere. But, by ignoring him, and therefore shutting him up here, will have accomplished our purpose and then we can post and debate with rational individuals. But, unfortunately, Lonny is typical of most liberals. I have not heard one argument or defense for anythng they believe in. They are mostly only good at justifying and defending their beliefs and attempting to be clever by being sarcastic and attacking people who have genuine beliefs, ideas and convictions. Sounds like Liberal Democrat Politicians in congress.

It's nigh time to face reality.

It was six years of Republican 'cut taxes and spend like drunken sailors' attitude that led to this debt bubble implosion.

It was Republicans (2001-2007) who spent more than the Democrats. They increased pork barrel spending from 3,000 to 14,000 projects a year, billed to the national credit card.

They have engaged in a seven year social engineering project in the Middle East that costs $120 billion a year and may well last another 100 years, billed to the national credit card.

They have added another layer of entitlement spending that costs $50 billion a year called Medicare Prescription, billed to the national credit card.

Mandated $4 billion a year in ethanol subsidies, as well as drastically increased cotton, sugar, soybean, corn, wheat handouts, billed to the national credit card.

zapdoodat
I bet if you ran checks all that pork and increased spending, you would find that more Republicans voted against them than Democrats. And you would find that more Democrats voted for the projects than voted against them. My problem is with Republicans who act like Democrats. Your problem seems to be with Republicans in general.

Also, you must know by now that the tax decreases ultimately produced two results-- more taxes were collected, and the top 5% ended up paying more in taxes, and more as a percentage of tax collected. The 'tax breaks for the rich' canard doesn't hold water.

So now they're edgy and "exploring"?
Bravo Sierra!!! There's a new series coming out called "Hung" about a gym teacher who is pimped out to rich ladies by a female procurer. Besides the fact that the ONLY reason for this tripe is to get a show with the title "Hung" on national BROADCAST cable imagine the reverse. Sure, Barney Frank can say that the sun revolves around the earth. Big deal, who was in power at the time and set policy?

Republicans had always wanted to take power from Fannie and Freddie and give it to the Wall Street firms, which would have resulted in an even bigger catastrophe.

Obama's Kenayn BC FOR SALE!
How much would a genuine copy of President Obama's birth certificate – from a hospital in Mombasa, Kenya – be worth on the open market?

One eBay seller, known to the public only as "colmado_naranja," attempted to find out, only to be shot down by the auction website's administrators … at least four times.

As WND reported, colmado_naranja alleged that he had been traveling in Kenya, where natives boasted that Barack Obama II was, indeed, born in the Coast Provincial Hospital in Mombasa at 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 4, 1961, which correlates with speculation that has existed over President Obama's birthplace since even prior to his election.

The eBay seller, with a flawless track record of dozens of sales on the auction website, also claimed that he was able to obtain a genuine copy of Obama's Kenyan birth certificate and posted it for sale online, with an opening bid of $1,000 and a "buy it now" price of $1,000,000,000.

NOW WE KNOW ....

WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

The sad thing is how many of you actually think that being born within a certain geographical region matters to being a leader. The worse thing is that you believe that this person has a genuine birth certificate, on eBay.

No wonder your party is a joke.

The sad thing is how many of you actually think that the Constitution's presidential requirement to be a U.S. born resident is irrelevant. No wonder your party is a joke.

DON'T LIKE IT? DON'T WATCH IT!
It REALLY is as simple as that.

Your kids are not my responsibility.

I do not want you pious holier than thou right wingers dicating what I can watch because you have sexual hangups. I do not want your disnified white-picket fence soccer mom world......so cut the crap!

I am TOTALLY for pay-as-you-go service. And most of us normal people....the real people who dont have silly hangups over dirty words and boobies....feel the same way. But that is where it stops! If you try to take it away alltogether, then that is war!

TO ALL TH POSTERS
1. The basic argument is correct - if you do not like it don't watch it. If you want to go further, feel free to contact sponsors or anyone else in power and let your voice be heard.

Last time I checked, we were still able to do that. And of course, private individuals and companies are also free to ignore us. But we can have our say. Or change the channel, or both.

2. HYPOCRITES - you know who the real hypocrites are: POLITICIANS regardless of party.

If more Americans started to realize that instead of just pointing fingers and blaming the other party, we'd all be better off.

Then we'd have the guts to vote ALL the bums out, regardless of the D or R after their name, and start over with people who were clearly going to understand that Americans do not want hypocrites. We want responsible leaders.

TO ALL TH POSTERS, Part 2
But no, we keep letting the elites of both sides divide and and conquer us. We are too busy hating each other to realize that United We Stand and Divided We Fall. And we are falling at an astronomical rate. And the people in our gov't, whether D or R, are to blame for it . . . and frankly so are we. We keep rewarding bad behavior and therefore, we keep getting more of the bad behavior.

Common sense has truly died.

Why do so many Americans complain about the gov't and then keep voting in the same stooges over and over and over again? The minute I saw a rep vote for something stupid or against something good, they would not have my vote the next time, regardless of party affiliation.

Finally, Bozell was giving his opinion, as is his right. He was not calling for censorship and no one else was either. They were merely lamenting the fact that our country has become nothing but a degenerate place that cares more about sex, drugs and rock and roll than the future of this country and its citizens.

If you can't grasp that, or if you are so blinded by partisan hatred that you can't see that in many of the posts and in this article, then there is nothing I can do to help you. You are lost.

Cheers.

Ditto Ladykrystyna---
You said a mouthful Lady K. Exactly my philosophy. And, when and if we ever do get a responsible and responsive national legislative and executive branch of government, we need to Demand that They Begin To Dismantle This Huge Bureacuratic and Wasteful Federal Government, and the majority of the Agencies and Departments that have grown into Empires that the Politicians Use to Create and Then Reward Voting Blocs.

Greyhawk
Can I get an "AMEN!"

Amen!

That's right. I don't see how many Americans miss this. Sure, all these programs sound good. It's for the children, or the environment, or the fluffy bunnies, or whatever.

But ONE semester in an Administrative Law class and, even an ENVIRONMENTAL Law class taught me real quick that the laws that are promulgated and passed usually do not have the effect they are meant to have. And usually the effects are WORSE.

While it's fine to have a heart and think about things like the "children", the "environment" and the "fluffy bunnies", one must also think of the practical aspects of it all and be willing to admit that there are only so many things humans can do and even fewer things that the gov't can do to make your life better.

Mostly, it's up to the individual.

Gov Agency/Dept are Drug Cartel!!
People's thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs lead to addictions and then clinging to these thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs fuel the addiction.

Liberalism is an addiction, and Liberals suffer from the same disease as addicts. The thoughts and beliefs that you have lead to feelings (emotions) which lead to attitudes which leads to behaviors.

The Liberal Mantra for Politicians is that You Are A Victim, and That You Have Been Wronged By The Man, The Society, The Culture, etc. and Then The Government Gives You The Fix. After Awhile, the Addict believes the things that he or she is being taught by the Drug Dealer, in this case the Liberal Democrat Government, and the Drug Dealer gives the Addict his Fix (Welfare Check, Food Stamps, Rent or Mortgage Money, Money for Utilities, and then some Cash Payments so that the Addict can then Buy Some Real Drugs, Alcohol, and other things that the addict wants. And, like all addicts, they blame somebody else for their condition. And, the government continues to Expand The Size and Power of The DRUG Dealer (government that dispenses with taxpayer dollars to addicts who are addicted to government that takes care of him). And like all other addicts, the Government Handout Addict, becomes ever more ungrateful for what he or she has, and becomes more and more hostile and demanding. And, like all DrugDealers, the government keeps his clientele happy by giving him or her free drugs, while at the same time Enslaving The Addict. And, eventually the Drug Dealer will Demand that the Addict sell his or her very soul just to get another Fix of the Drug that he or she is so deperately addicted to. The Drug Dealer will addict children and then have the children become prostitutes who will do any despicable act just to get one more hit, fix, or dose of the drug he or she craves.

@Greyhawk:
Actually, the mantra by both liberal and conservative politicians is that "drugs are bad, ergo we will protect the American people by prohibiting them."

And, ladykrystyna is right: Government has made things worse. The War on Drugs is an abject failure. Since it's inception under Nixon in the early 1970's, drugs have become more widely available in more cities to a wider variety of age groups, and they are cheaper AND more potent than ever before.

They made the drugs themselves illegal. This did nothing to stem the demand that Americans have for their drugs - and where there is a demand, there is a business willing to provide for that demand in exchange for cash. Due to the illegal nature of drugs, the business that provides them is therefore also illegal. The drug cartel was born (though, anyone with half a brain knows that a drug cartel is the spitting image of organized crime syndicates during Prohibiton).

Make it legal, regulate the product, and tax it -- and our woes would largely vanish. But that's not the "moral" thing to do, despite the fact that it's the pragmatic thing to do... so never mind. Let's just keep it this way, because... it'll work. Eventually. It'll work.

Reply to Zaphod in Wy
It is not Illegal to get a job and go to work, and pay for your own food, rent, medical care, and the rest of the things tht Normal People with a Work Ethic and good self esteem do.

The point in my comments was that the Government Agency/Department Cartel has Created Millions of Americans Addicted to Government Programs to do for them the things that normal people do for themselves.

As for illegal drugs, this ought to be in the purview of Choice. No laws for or against. Just deal with the crime if a Drug User Commits a crime. For example, an alcoholic who gets caught drunk driving, is arrested and pays a fine or goes to jail for a while. Alcohol should not be regulated by government either. It is just a way for the government to Raise Taxes to spend on Worthless Government Agencies and Departments that should not exist to begin with.
