Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

It has become almost amusing, watching how the so-called "news" media are manipulating their own polls to keep the political weather sunny for their hero. The Washington Post kicked off President Barack Obama's European trip with the headline "Blame For Downturn Not Fixed on Obama." Of course, what was "fixed" was the poll itself.

They did the usual tricks for a more liberal sample of "public opinion" -- they polled on the weekend and oversampled Democrats (36 percent Democrat, 25 percent Republican). By themselves, these things are shameless -- but expected. And still that wasn't enough of a slant. Check out the way this question was asked by the Post pollsters.

"How much of the blame do you think [fill in the blank] deserves for the country's economic situation?" The choices were corporations, banks, consumers, the Bush team and the Obama administration. There's a built-in pro-Obama bias in there already: assigning blame to Obama for the current economy when he's been in office for nine weeks just seems harsh to most people. But just because they (correctly) don't blame him as the primary cause for our current woes, this doesn't mean for a second that the public endorses his "solutions," as the Post suggests.

But the Post questioners traveled beyond natural polling for politeness. They wanted to know why we fault these sectors. Is it the corporations "for poor management decisions"? Is it the banks, for "taking unnecessary risks"? Did consumers take on "too much debt"?

These are fair descriptions, I think we can say. But now check how they identified the problem when it was a politician: Should the public blame Bush for "inadequate regulation of the financial industry"? Or is Obama to blame for "not doing enough to turn the economy around"?

What kind of left-wing pollster wrote these questions? Is Obama "not doing enough"? We're being buried in trillion-dollar Obama proposals, and he should be faulted for "not doing enough"? How about the crazy idea that maybe, just maybe, he's doing too much? This question makes sense only if the goal is to assist Obama politically.

The Post drew the numbers they wanted: While every other politician and group was blamed "a great deal or a good amount" for the downturn by at least 70 percent in the poll, Obama was only blamed to that extent by 26 percent.

So Obama's trying to implement socialism at 120 miles per hour, and with a straight face, the Post reported that 62 percent of those surveyed still see Obama as a "new-style Democrat who will be careful with the public's money," while 32 percent see him as an "old-style tax-and-spend Democrat." An accurate assessment by the Post would conclude that a) Obama's accelerated socialist policies make most conservatives pine for the good old days of "tax-and-spend Democrats" and b) 62 percent of the public has no idea what is going on in Washington -- primarily because they rely on outlets like the Post for their "news."

Then there were poll questions that the Post editors didn't want on the front page -- or even anywhere in the poll story by political reporter Dan Balz and pollster Jon Cohen. On the front page, Post readers saw the big news -- a bar graph showing that 60 percent approve of how Obama is handling the economy. But if you look at the Internet and read the actual poll, there's another number the Post deliberately left out. Pollsters asked, "Do you approve or disapprove of the federal government's overall response to the economic situation?" Forty-nine percent said they supported the overall federal government response.

So who, boys and girls, is the "federal government? It's controlled by a Democratic president, and a strongly Democratic Congress. One could clearly state, then, that less than half of the public supports President Obama's economic agenda. But the Post ignored this so as to trumpet the opposite.

This is one important reason why newspapers are on shaky financial ground. Washington Post readers who are not completely on the Obama bandwagon should see the discrepancies described here and feel completely manipulated. The Post is loading on the bias, coming and going, manipulating the polls after it paints pretty presidential pictures on the front page.

And people wonder....
Is there any doubt why people find polls to be worthless? After seeing a poll that is as biased as this one, I'm amazed that anyone can still be influenced by them.

fascism
this is fascism ,pure and simple. when the government can tell buisness ,who runs the company ,how they run the company, and how much pay they get, then my friends, You have Facism.....get your self redeay to resist . Mark

New Washington Post poll question
President Obama is _________.

A. The greatest American in history

B. The greatest leader in history

C. The greatest human in history

D. All of the above

Typical poll question
You have been served a hamburger, would you rather have razor blades or nails on it?

OPINION DYNAMICS AND RASMUSSEN POLLS
The two worst polls in the nation are FOX NEWS' Opinion Dynamics poll and the Rasmussen Poll. Both are heavily slanted to favor Conservatives. Opinion Dynamics removed from their website that they do polling for the big oil companies, and the Rasmussen poll contacts mostly Conservatives. But FOX NEWS uses these two polls as if they were the word of GOD. Go back and do some more homework, Bozell.

Nobody that I know
defends Obama any more. I find these polls unbelievable. They have zero credibility.

Misplaced Ingenuity
Thanks Brent, great article. Just imagine how successful MSM would be if they focused their creativity on providing interesting, thought provoking copy, rather than thinking up new and innovative ways to introduce bias in their reporting and further push the narratives they endorse. What a bunch of losers, at WaPo and across the MSM.

Dirty Tricks Done Dirt Cheap ?
Eric Holder has decided to void the Ted Stevens conviction. How convenient for the Democrats that he was convicted just in time to cause him to lose his election.

I am no Ted Stevens fan,but I have said all along this was a trumped up charge because the Democrats needed his seat. This is shameful!

I think he is ratting out other senators and this is a payoff to silence him.He should sue the pants off someone. This is a travesty that a senator's life can be ruined just to take his seat. The election should also be voided!!

Sample Question
I read the poll data and found that the "random" sample questioned 36% dems and 25% repubs while the Rasmussen poll that tracks party affiliation sats there are 40.8% dems and 33.6% repubs. It seems a significant enough difference to suspect their "random" claim. Good article Brent.

Obama is a fraud and so are the polls
The polls are completely biased, and have only gotten worse since the 2000 Pres election.
The polls are designed to do 2 things:
Bolster the left when it appears they are losing;
Destroy the morale of the right when it appears they are winning;
But the polls are NOT designed to offer information based on nothing more than people's responses to their questions.
NEVER pay any heed to the polls as long as the liberals are in charge of them. They have their own agenda, which is to further their socialism, and their polls merely serve their agenda.
I hate these people
Obama is___________.
a. A socialist that would put Stalin to shame
b. A moral coward who never served his country, but denigrates and ignores those who do
c. A liar of the first degree - his promise to post all bills on line for 5 days before signing so the public can see them has NEVER been kep
d. Going to create the biggest revolution this country has seen since 1776.
e. All of the above.

Breitbart Alert!
It appears that "Bill" from IL is another paid trolling operative from Soros, Huffington, or the DNC.

Ignore his blather.

The Federal Government's Respose

Perhaps when pollsters asked about the " Federal Government's Response to the economic crisis", respondents included the less than helpful Republicans in Congress who have no answers except "cut taxes and No" in their thinking.

Rowly
"Figures lie and liars figure" - Mark Twain.

"There are three types of lies - lies, damn lies, and statistics." - Benjamin Disraeli.

Or in this case:

"Polls lie and liars poll."

"There are three types of lies - lies, damn lies, and polls."

In The Tank
Anyone that thinks the MSM are not completely in the tank for Obama has been [1]asleep for the past 16 months, [2]are completely in the tank themselves, or [3]brain washed progressives.

Oops, number [3] is a double negative.

The US MSM propaganda machine rivals those of the countries run by dictators.

One would think the MSM was directly controlled by the government as under dictatorships. The sad fact is the MSM is doing this all on their own!

Poll Questions
1. Do you think Obama is handling the economy skillfuly or do you beat your wife?
2. Would you rate Obama's performance as excellent, stupendous, or superlative.
3 Do you think that Bush steals candy from babies, is a pederast, or practices beastiality?
4. Do you think pollsters are the smartest people in the world or do you practice incest?

Polls and Lies
This is exactly why I stopped trusting polls and pollsters 25 years ago. It is too easy for one to slant a poll in whatever direction one wishes it to go. Yes, Bill I place Fox News and Rasmussen in there as well.

I could get more accurate results asking folks at a barber shop and random people at the Walmart. I do not get too excited when I hear that Obama is sinking in the polls any more than I get depressed when I hear he is getting high marks in the polls. Polls equal manipulative lies and pollsters equal politically motivated liars.

Conservative Media Guilty as Hell
Not a peep about Obama suing Citibank for sub-prime loans during his days as a community organizer was uttered by FOX or any other conservative media outlet. It would have been quite a story to reveal how he directed Annenberg money to ACORN, and taught them how to terrify bank executive's families by demonstrating in front of their homes. How about ACORN busting into bank board meetings, another Obama Mau-Mau tactic?

This is "Bush's recession" due to "deregulation"? The biggest lie, which is now forever labeled "the truth" is the fault of the conservative media failing to report this and many other damnable things about Obama. Cowards!

I Really Have Been Call
I have been called by a few pollsters. It is great comedy. I spend most of the time laughing at how biased the questions are presented. One of the funnies was biased against our State Representative and was so bad I had the pollster laughing. But for some reason they do not call me any more.

Ouck Fbama
Plain and Simple

Ouck Fbama

Liberal Polls
O'Reilly did a poll on his website on who is most responsible for the mess we are in: 90% said the government. ABC News/Washington Post poll asked basically the same question: 70% said the banks and big business.
The lying polls giving Bill Clinton 70% approval ratings during his impeachment kept him in office.
Now the lying pollsters in the liberal media will do everything possible to keep the Obamanation afloat as well.
Boy do I fear for my country.

Charlton Heston?
Change your monicker or change your tone. Charlton Heston was not a foul vulgar exhibitionist.

Nancy - Conservative media guilty
I was not a TownHall regular during the election season. But I do remember I was infuriated at not hearing reported the things you mentioned. I did my own research to find information about Ayers, Alinsky, ACORN (looks like the A’s have it.)

I am equally perturbed that I have not found a single columnist on TH who has honestly addressed the Federal Reserve being, as Alan Greenspan said, “an independent agency” that no part of our government can overrule. In other words, they are no more a Federal agency than Federal Express, and they are above the law.

Here are his words:
“Well, first of all, the Federal Reserve is an independent agency, and that means, basically, that there is no other agency of government which can overrule actions that we take. So long as that is in place and there is no evidence that the administration or the Congress or anybody else is requesting that we do things other than what we think is the appropriate thing, then what the relationships are don't, frankly, matter. And I've had very good relationships with presidents.”

No one is asking or telling us “Who owns the Federal Reserve?” Why?

LEFTIST POLLS ARE A BIG JOKE!
I watched His Grace, Beserk Insane Obummer, tell a big lie on National TV just yesterday. Speaking before an audience in England he stated he doesn't pay any attention to polls. Then I read that he has a staff of pollsters and watches them as closely as Bill Clinton did. He should be able to tell soon that he will NOT be reelected in 2012!!!

Biased Wash. Post _ Poll
Thanks for your comments. It will indeed be hard for the populace to see that the Emperor has no clothes when the Washington Post keeps supplying Brooks Brothers suits.

Polls
WaPo is a company newspaper in a company town. Their subscriber base is government workers and lobbyists. Any poll or POV that belittled big government and "progressive" politicians and their programs is off limits in this newspaper. Just ask GWB.
