Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

Hollywood can still mount a soapbox and recall the dark days when people lost their jobs in show business for daring to take an unpopular political position that was outside the mainstream. Whenever they're criticized, they proclaim, "McCarthyism," accuse their critics of "blacklisting," and condemn the deplorable "intolerance."

Hollywood has yet to accept, perhaps even to understand, that it is the entertainment industry that excels at this slanderous behavior. After California voters narrowly approved Proposition 8, which amended the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman, it was revealed that Scott Eckern, the artistic director of the California Musical Theater in Sacramento, the state's largest nonprofit musical theater company, had donated $1,000 to the Yes on 8 campaign.

Eckern's freedom of speech be damned: The man needed to be punished. Producer Marc Shaiman's musical "Hairspray" had played at the theater, and he announced he would never allow anything he wrote to play there because of Eckern's donation. Shaiman's declaration triggered a blistering e-mail pressure campaign, forcing Eckern to resign.

Shaiman claimed to the Associated Press that he regretted that it came to Eckern losing his job and said: "It's a tragedy for everyone involved. You'll certainly see that no one called for him to resign."

Shaiman said he would never allow anything he wrote to play there, but he doesn't think that was creating pressure to dismiss Eckern? That confounds common sense. So great was the pressure that Eckern, a Mormon, also felt he had to donate a repentant $1,000 to a gay-rights group. Meanwhile, the theater bizarrely claimed it would not "impinge on the rights of its employees to engage in political activities."

This wasn't the only blacklisting. Los Angeles Film Festival Director Richard Raddon, also a Mormon, was pressed into resignation after his $1,500 donation to the Yes on 8 campaign was disclosed. Film Independent, the festival's organizer, put out its own Orwellian statement that "Our organization does not police the personal, religious or political choices of any employee, member or filmmaker." But one Film Independent board member told the Los Angeles Times that the "progressives" also berated Raddon personally with phone calls and e-mails.

Gay activists are correct that they have every right to boycott theaters or businesses that offend them. But that's exactly the right that anti-communists claimed in the middle of the last century, and Hollywood has spent more than 50 years condemning this as an attack on hallowed free speech. The hypocrisy speaks for itself.

It wasn't enough for Marc Shaiman to get Eckern fired. Next, he made a star-studded satirical video (appearing on the comedy website Funny Or Die) mocking opponents of Prop 8, casting the comedian Jack Black as Jesus Christ, who trashed the Bible as hopelessly out of date. It is more of the anti-religious bigotry for which this industry, supposedly so devoted to "tolerance," has become famous.

The cartoonish Christians in Shaiman's video sing it's "time to drop some hate" with Prop 8. They proclaim that they lied about gays, "but it worked, so we don't care." So "Jesus" shows up to "correct" -- and ridicule -- the idea that the Bible calls homosexuality an abomination: "but it says the same thing about this shrimp cocktail. ... Leviticus says shellfish is an abomination!"

This phony-baloney Jesus seems to be quoting directly from an Obama speech in 2006 that suggested Christian conservatives weren't reading their Leviticus. But neither Obama nor Shaiman will admit in the Bible there is also St. Peter's vision in the Acts of the Apostles, where he's told to abandon the idea of clean and unclean foods.

Shaiman also has his Bible-trashing Jesus sing that the Bible says, "you can stone your wife, or sell your daughter into slavery." This is also a common pro-gay argument, as if Christians today are all recognized to be active in wife-stoning and daughter-enslaving. When the Christians say they ignore those verses, Jesus scolds, "it seems to me you pick and choose ... Well, then, choose love instead of hate. Besides your nation was built on separation of church and state."

Only someone utterly ignorant would make a video where Jesus descends in a vision to humanity only to sound like a lawyer for the ACLU.

Hollywood loves to pose as the trendy defender of civil liberties, but clearly no one who wants to remain employed would ever dare to make a musical mockery of Shaiman and his blacklisting coalitions. No one has forgotten the ruined career of former "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington for ingloriously using the gay six-letter F-word on a private set. From now on, no one in entertainment is going to feel safe making a donation as measly as $100 to a conservative defense-of-marriage campaign.

Hunter, no thank you
No Hunter, thank you for posting here, and making sure all who post here realize what you are truly after. You provide an affirmation to everyone that can not be bought, or shown otherwise.

And thank you so much for making sure that 30 states now forbid homosexual marriage and more are sure to follow.

You have mainstream backwards, you Hunter are the fringe, the radical, the unhinged, and millions viewed it live after the proposition 8 riots. And it will not be forgotten.

You and your brethern added another 5 million no votes to homosexual marriage.

No Hunter, you are owed a debt of gratitude by all believers. And by all means keep it up.

Take what rights? You hae every right of any other citizen.
What your imply is that you will take what you want, and call it rights.
No, not hardly. See how far those threats get you.
------------------------------------------------
That would be the right to marry the person I love, which was taken away from me. We're not taking what we want and calling it "rights", we're taking our rights. Period.

Do you refer to blacks who did not want to be slave anymore as "gestapo"? How about women who wanted the right to vote? Or inter-racial couples who wanted the right to marry? Gestapo? Hardly. I'd call them all pro-American dream fighters for democracy.

And we're not making any "threats", we're taking what is ours. If that is threatening to you, that's your problem. The country is quickly realizing that people like you are way out there on the fringe, going the way of the dinosaurs. Actually, the more you whine and cry and reveal your true colors, the more publicity we get and the better it is for gays. I should be thanking you for keeping the issue in the spotlight.

Nowhere.

Here is another example of the Hunters of the homosexual world and how they treat believers:

http://americansfortruth.com/news/h8ing-christians-video-sh ows-aftermath-of-homosexual-mob-attack-on-christians-in-san -franciscos-casto-district.html

This is why homosexual marriage is rejected by every state that has voted on it.

Wayne Besen, a very prominent homosexual activist who wrote Anything But Straight wrote this about the courts mandating homosexual marriage:

"ensuing confusion would only heighten citizens awareness of the crisis caused by the homosexual lobby and arrogant, social engineering courts."

Sure makes Hunter look idiotic with his statements.

No, the homosexuals just want the same rights as everyone else. We could care less what ANYONE thinks about it, and we will take our rights no matter what anyone else thinks.

see MILK at a theatre near you
No matter what you think of gays getting equal rights, I recommend seeing the wonderful new film MILK, about San Francisco City Superviser Harvey Milk.

It's an inspiration to anyone who believes in democracy and the power of one person to change the world for the better.

"Oscar" has a new spelling: M-I-L-K!

Some more hollywood and prop8

Here is a film being marketed according to the producer , to atheists, lovers of equality, freedom lovers, and is given a 5 star rating(by who, I do not know).

It is by DevilHead films (oh so appropriate) and is marketed as a perfect Christmas gift for atheists.

It is a film heavily influenced by the writings of Nietzsche and marriage equality.

It is entitled Coming Soon.

More Hollywood marriage redefinition, and atheism for the holidays.

These are the equality values demanded by posters like LoveIsEqual, du, Will etc,

The new Hollywood blacklist
I agree with Brent Bozell. The homosexuals want a marriage right simply to MAKE everyone agree with their lifestyle. I don't like what the militant homosexuals are trying to do to America, and for everyone that allows this to go on, then you deserve what you get. As for Jack Black, Ron Howard, yes, even the one time "cool" Fonzy, I am through with your CRAP. I doubt very much if the hollywierdos would like my opinions. If they will keep their opinions to themselves, I will do the same.

Homosexuality is natural, it is a normal deviation found in nature. Homosexual behavior is known in a wide variety of animal speices--both promiscious and pair-bonding.

I don't know about homosexuality in the animal species and would love for you to provide data; however, if "homosexuality is natural", then so is extinction, which would happen if gays only relied on their own sexual practices.

Not only is this untrue, but it fails to take into consideration the REAL civil rights issue: That Democrats are more beholdened to the teachers' unions than they are to the children stuck in failing schools.

As a woman, I can say, unequivocally, that I am not discriminated against and none of my friends, in the other categories that you mentioned, feel that they have suffer from discrimination.

What about
Conservative women, blacks, gays, latinos, Jews and others? Do they have NO voice then since by your reasoning the GOP by default represents NONE of these people? YOU are the bigot, not us.

Oh, I forgot. To libtard trolls like yourself these would not be "real" women, blacks, gays, latinos, Jews, etc.

You are correct in your statement that the Republican Party is not progressive which is really the PC term for liberal. The current freefall of the Republican Party is we have been trying to out liberal the liberals. We need to return to our Conservative roots.

Those you call the Religious Right are properly called Conservatives. Modern Conservatism has always advocated a strong moral component. Provide an example of Conservatives advocating bigotry because I am unaware of any.

As far as Civil Rights for minorities are concerned I would again need an example but in this case where the Democrats are advocating for anything that is not already covered by our current laws. Please don’t quote me Gay Marriage because even ethnic minorities do not see this as a Civil Rights issue.

I watch Fox News approximately 2 hours daily and have never seen them bash minority groups of either ethnic or religious persuasion. Your statement that this happens regularly is facetious which I can prove through my own viewing habit.

The Republican Party has never stopped being the party of Civil Rights.

Lepanto
Lepanto-- It is true that at one time the Republican Party was the Progressive party. Heck, the Republican Party is the party of Lincoln.

But that has changed. Since the emergence of the Religious Right, the religious right has taken over the Republican Party and made it the Bigot Party.

Big deal
If these people had given money to help take away rights of blacks or Jews, there would be no outrage over their resignations, only outrage over their actions.

If they had given money to promote an initiative removing rights of Christians, you can bet that all the extremist Christians would be calling for their resignations, forming boycotts, etc.

These 2 guys chose to resign - they could have stood up for themselves, or began a dialogue with all their gay constituents, but they choose to give up without a fight. Notice neither of these guys is whining to the media - they did what they felt they had to do. It's only the right-wing media that is making a big deal out of this. Attacking the same tactics they have used for years.

bryce1 Facts are Funny Things
The final vote by party of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The Senate version:[9]
Democratic Party: 46-21 (69%-31%)
Republican Party: 27-6 (82%-18%)

The Senate version, voted on by the House:[9]
Democratic Party: 153-91 (63%-37%)
Republican Party: 136-35 (80%-20%)

Republicans supplied the needed to pressure to pass the 1964 Civil Rights act. Please have your facts straight before calling me a liar.

You are correct. The video speaks for itself. Sickening.

Here is another from 1993. The parallel is eerie.

http://www.baptistpillar.com/bd0204.htm

A diary from 1993. Homosexals invaded a church to prevent a speaker they did not approve of from speaking in San Fran.

Please keep the marriage link handy I posted, very good reference, and by all means send the video around to all you know. And then some.

Here is another video of homosexual values. The Gay and Lesbian task force presented an award for Leather Leadership to a consensual slavery advocate recently by the name of Guy Baldwin

htp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbTn9xFqb8k

Ask anyone, has any person ever in the history of this country observed homosexuals abused like these Christians were?

In this Orwellian Era ...
... anti-"hate" has become the new hate. I recall once when looking at one of those never-ending SPLC "hate group" reports, one of the hysterically funny categories was hate groups whose names and locations were unknown. But they are out there, I tell you--everywhere! Yet the media constantly quotes these hate artists as if they were quoting Einstein on relativity.

Hollywood Nonsense
I have largely ignored anything Hollywood for many years. The movies that have been produced by these radical leftists in the last few years have been truly lacking in creativity; and I have no tolerance for the medium being used by the likes of Oliver Stone, and now Ron Howard to impose their political beliefs on the rest of us. I now prefer to watch classic movies which have far superior story plots, actors and no gratuitous sex and violence. Hollywood will eventually self destruct, it has indulged in decadence for too long.

Sunny-CO
Well Said!! My wife and I did that long ago..She still watches the "Pretty People" sometimes when she thinks I don't know!!

For Lon-PA..Pardner, I keep close watch on this thread for an indication, of any type, of something YOU BELIEVE IN!!! Must be frightfully lonely in there..Oh, I know!!! U BELIEVE IN FRUIT FLIES... Good Lick

Hollywood?
Along with many others, I've blacklisted Hollywood! No more movies, concerts, talk shows, etc. Reading is truly a wonderful thing. For news, I turn on FOX NEWS, or check out the Drudge report. I have blocked CNN, NBC, MSNBC, CBS and ABC from my TV because I don't feel safe listening to them. I sincerely believe that, if there was an imminent threat to the US that didn't bode well for Mr. Obama, none of the above stations would report it. I've lost that much faith.
As for the Prop 8, I've about had it! I've watched violent, childish, pathetic behavior from the Gays and Lesbians. They've lost me as a supporter for many reasons. If they want 'Unions'...let them have 'Unions'. But, I am now questioning their ability to raise children, given their behavior during the past month. I consider it unhealthy to children. Perhaps all of you should think about that before you push any more old ladies aside.
If the California Judges(?)overturn the vote on Prop 8, they need to be disbarred. And, if they 'overturn the Prop 8 vote, they need to overturn the Presidential vote also. After all, those same people that voted for Mr. Obama, also voted against Prop 8. Fair's fair, people.

Boycott or Blacklist? OK!
If Hollywood wants to have a boycott or blacklist, I say "FINE"!

We should just boycott and blacklist Hollywood.

No more movies, tv, etc.

Hollywood, you want a blacklist or boycott??? You've got it.

No Place For James Richardson in GOP
Michael writes, "The Republican National Committee's Online Communuications Manager, James Richardson, has come out in favor of gay rights: adoption and marriage or civil unions..."

Michael, James Richardson is exactly the kind of Republican who says conservatism needs to be redefined and become more moderate. Conservatism is going to sweep through the GOP, with or without the moderates. James should be replaced since he can't truly promote conservatism. Conservatives believe we ALL have rights, but no minority group has to right to push their ideals on anyone. Conservatives are willing to just let live and let live, but we refuse to have ideas pushed on us that we know are wrong. Be gay, but keep your ideas and your hands to yourself.

Celebutard's Opinions
Who cares? They all seem like air heads with glamorous sleazy lives. Troubled people with serious "issues." Kept their minds open too long and a ton of crappp fell in.

Congratulations!

You have made the most inane comment of the day: "Christian fundamentalists have no sense of humor -- that's why they're so easy to laugh at."

Ha, Ha!

See, I do have a sense of humor! I think your comments are so stupid, they're funny!

Dreadnaught, Brickhouse
A link to some more homosexual militant activity for reference. I told LoveIsEqual I would be posting them.

http://www.catholic.org/national/national story.php?id=30504

Storming a Catholic church, committing vandalism, yelling Jesus is a homo.

Just to show these homosexual militants hate everybody who is religious equally, they also have set up a shop to hate Jews (Israel) as well as Christians. They identify themselves as such.

http://www.lagai.org/

And there is a radical homosexual agenda, here is a link to it:

http://www.radicalhomosexualagenda.org/

Some nice links to homosexual values.

Go see some movies.
I vigorously support today's Hollywood (and other film centers) and do so without any apology. If someone doesn't like that, too bad. Go rent the "Batman" DVD. Or maybe "The Bank Job" or "Tropic Thunder." Christian fundamentalists have no sense of humor -- that's why they're so easy to laugh at. By the way, the past summer was a record-high box office season.

Randall
Asking whether something is "natural" seems like a strange way to decide if it is good. Plenty of behaviors are natural -- promiscuity, theft, assault -- that I suspect you wouldn't like to see in humans. On the flip side, plenty of exclusively human behaviors -- lifelong fidelity, medicine, a system of laws -- are things I'm sure you value.

I don't look to the zoo when trying to figure out how people should behave, and neither should you.

Gay Is Not OK
Gay people have the right to do whatever they want to, as long as they obey our laws (as we all do). But they can parade and protest all they want, we aren't going to change our minds that it's simply wrong. That is our right.

Getting militant or in-our-faces, only makes us dig our heals in and force us to openly oppose laws that promote homosexual lifestyles. The truth hurts and gay people don't want to hear it. We've been taught to be politically correct, so we don't rudely mention that we don't think homosexuality is okay; we just quietly let them "do their thing." Anti-hate crimes against homosexuals have been strengthened, but that does not give homosexuals the right to abuse society at will. Eventually, laws protecting anti-hate crimes against heterosexuals will have to be enacted. Homosexuals do not have the right to harm others; no one in this country has that right.

If it's suddenly politically-correct for homosexuals to get ugly with society, trying to force us to nod our heads and agree with them that homosexuality is natural and moral, then fair-n-square for all of us. The vote on Proposition 8 was the will of the people; homosexuals should go home and shut up. The people have spoken.

Cesspool
Hollywood is a stinking, festering, revolting cesspool. The idea that this collection of sub-human intellectual lightweights is actually taken seriously says more about Americans than it does about them. These Hollywood morons can't make anything work for them, their marriages last what... somewhere between a week and a possibly a year, maybe? They're so busy sleeping around, getting high, and spending time in rehab I'm surprised they actually have time to generate the filth that passes for entertainment. Americans that actually spend money on the garbage that comes out of Hollywood should be ashamed. These Hollyweirdos are actually telling you how to live your life and where to spend your money, cripes they're even telling you who to vote for. These imbeciles with room temperature IQs who can't make their own lives work are somehow role models for Americans?

The gay question? It isn't even a question. The APA was sued by gays to de-list homosexuality from the APA's list of mental defects. It didn't change the fact that homosexuality is a first class mental defect.

McCarthy was right if a bit over-zealous, the people he "blacklisted" deserved to be blacklisted. Socialist/Communist scum have no place in America or anywhere else on the planet for that matter. McCarthy was a hero.

Hollywood seems to like communists and socialists. I propose an experiment. Lets wall of all of Hollywood and allow the proletariat to take what they want from the ultra-rich elite. Lets see how Hollywood likes living their damnable dream.

Yes, it is my intention to offend every despicable piece of left-wing garbage posting here tonight. Enjoy!

DON'T TREAD ON ME!

Updates on Marriage
For those who follow recent marriage cases, and so forth, here is an excellent link:

http://www.marriagedebate.com/pdf/MarriageLawDigest.June200 8.pdf

Contained in it, is a summary of a Canadian case Lund vs Boissoin.

A clear demonstration of the homosexual militant agenda. A group writing a letter using the words

"homosexual agenda"

In Canada was prosecuted, fined, etc. A clear demonstration of posters here who have similair messages of the intent of the homosexual militant agenda.

A nice reference for those who follow the marriage debate

Separation of Church and State
I will make this concession. Since welfare is forced charity, and charity is really saying that humans mean something which is a dangerously religious thought--then maybe we need to end all welfare programs.

Also, aren't gays allowed to have civil unions? Then why do they want marriage which is purely a religious concept?

Here is some prop 8 tolerance.
I had heard this video was around, I could not find it on you tube but did find it on a web site I was pointed to.

http://americansfortruth.com/news/h8ing-christians-video-sh ows-aftermath-of-homosexual-mob-attack-on-christians-in-san -franciscos-castro-district.html#more-2410

This is some dedicated believers attempting their weekly prayers in the castro district in Sn Fran. They did nothing but it took dozens of police to protect them from homosexuals who wanted to do them bodily harm. Talk about walking into the lions den.

These people certainly walk the walk when it comes to their beliefs. Thay have my admiration.

A real contrast of homosexual values and Christian values.

Show me anywhere in time an instance where homosexuals were abused like this.

Iam
Huskerdoodoo?

Aren't you the clever one! Is that what passes for humor in California?

You wrote: "Tolerance does not mean liking everything and everyone. Tolerance means that you co-exist with what you don't like without bleating and teeth gnashing and rending of garments."

I agree wholeheartedly.

Maybe you could tell the same thing to some of your friends who are disrupting church services and sending threatening letters to people they can't tolerate.

accountability
People who take an aggressive stance against the civil liberties of any community should be prepared to deal with the consequences. If being a bigot, anti-semite, or a racist isn't enough to make them reconsider their views, then perhaps losing their job might.

unhappy gay life
As the parent of a gay adult daughter I can tell you firsthand that for the most part they are very unhappy people. Our daughter is a loving respectful and hardworking individual. Having met her partners, and their have been quite a few, I can say with first hand knowledge they are insecure, unhappy, and promiscuous. They have difficulty maintaining a lasting relationship, and usually one of them is extremely jealous of the other. It is never a one sided affair, and I do not take our daughters part. We have a very close relationship with our daughter, and have always supported her. Unfortunately, it is a very lonely and sad lifestyle.

nonsense, trigcanwrite

It seems you've swallowed the homosexual front's conventional wisdom; that "we think" people under 30 may not care if gays filch marriage as a "right." Let's wait and see. There IS a genuine aspect in marriage; which was lately stated definitively in the Prop 8 passage. MAN with WOMAN.

There's an ugly feature to your lobbying against women as suitable spouses.

You value male-on-male as the proper mix for a good marriage. Meaning you're vaginaphobes one & all! Is this going to escape the notice of those under 30 voters, one of these days? How can you be so sure?

Will they then be in the majority? Won't most of them already have married legitimately, men with women? Won't they learn, sooner or later, how silly your arguments for gay marriage have always been?

Hollywood...
...needs to be taught a lesson. The American people need to grow a pair. We need to start boycotting hollywood. We need to refuse to spend our money on the trash they put out, especially when they cast a bunch of no-talent actors who, somehow, get the rating of superstar. For myself, it's been more than thirty years since I last went to a movie theatre and more than twenty years since I last rented a video. I won't spend my money on an industry that is out to help destroy this country.

Huskerdoodoo
I know that this is subtle, but stay with me. I'll make it simple.

What Bozell is talking about in his article is people revoking their $$ and complaining until someone resigns.

He is talking about private individuals making their views known to other private people and organizations. This has nothing to do with the government persecuting people for their beliefs.

So it is not McCarthyism. McCarthy was a Senator who compelled people to testify before the Senate.

Two different things here....

Huskerdoodoo
Nope.
It's conservatives who are the hypocrites here.

Hollywood can produce treacly cr*p like Touched by an Angel, or it can produce a video trashing Bible-thumpers--there's no agenda but $$$, and what gets made is what'll make a buck.

Since when are conservatives against that idea of free enterprise and making a buck?

What would happen if you found out that Town Hall and Brent Bozell contributed to Planned Parenthood to help lobby a pro-choice bill?

Umm--withdraw support??

So how is it hypocritical for liberals to decry what they are against?

Tolerance does not mean liking everything and everyone. Tolerance means that you co-exist with what you don't like without bleating and teeth gnashing and rending of garments.

What is this "gay"?
The whacko left wins every time you allow them to define all the words we use. Gay? Didn't we have a word for homosexuals? I can think of several.

Dignity
Not trying to fool anyone. Just figured some discourse would be nice before the inevitable.

48% voted against gay right in 2008, and with 60% of individuals under 30 having no problem with gay marriage it will pass. So I figured we could at least try to have a dignified discussion before it all became irrelevant.

All of your precious children are going to college and, gasp, meeting real live gays. And it turns out they realized there was nothing to be afraid of. The numbers and the demographics don't lie. And they will vote away your values.

We have voted with our pocketbooks
and refuse to attend any movies put out by the Hollywood liberal crowd...that is the only way we can get our point across. We did see An American Carol recently, and if you haven't, it is a great 'feel-good' movie and we used our pocketbook to tell the brave folks who directed and acted in it that we'd go again if they put out another!

It is simply amazing that in this land of LAW, those who don't have the election results they wanted, disregard the vote of the people and DISOBEY the law! I'm quite sure if Prop 8 had gone the other way, you wouldn't have found the supporters acting in the lawless manner as what we have been subjected to.

Laws are Laws - and voting results are the results of the people casting THEIR LAWFUL VOTES! Get over it! Grow up!! I am sick and tired of being subjected to spoiled brats throwing tantrums! If the shoe fits, wear it!

At least in California, the citizens were allowed to cast a vote on this most controversial matter. Here in the liberal land of Massachusetts, Judges MAKE LAWS and the governor and legislators do NOT allow the vote to go to the public. And why do you suppose that is????????????? Well now, methinks they might be a bit afraid of the same results here as on the Left Coast! We aren't all liberals in this commonwealth...

Iam
You wrote: "McCarthyism is a ridiculous analogy--McCarthy brought the power of the state down on the suspected communists. In no way has the power of the state been used to silence one side or another in this controversy."

The power of the state has been used to subvert the will of the people. Your courts have repeatedly overturned or nullified decisions that were voted on by the people of California.

Look at the effort right now to have the court overturn the results of the election. If successful, is that not the state using its power to silence someone?

Iam
The same thing has been said several times.

Bozell clearly states that any group has the right to boycott or protest.

He was pointing our the hypocrisy of the liberals doing the protesting.

I will disagree with your last sentence.

There is nothing worse that a person whining about an article that he or she did not read.

Go back, reread the entire article, then try to make a point.

trig read it and weep

"straight married couples that engage in a whole range of kink and fetish activities and receive no real moral criticism,"

There sure is real moral criticism of the whole range; but straight couples don't insist on farcically changing marriage the way gays insist on perverting matrimony. We don't run to the ACLU and Supremes insisting on making sodomy a virtuous marriage custom. By legal writ. Go back to square one, now. You need a lot more leverage than your lame post gives you.

You wrote: "And overall, if that monogamous coupling was to occur large scale one could surmise that the promiscuity and AIDS issues facing gay people would diminish."

Why does it not occur now?

Do you really believe that a marriage "certificate" is going to stop the behavior of promiscuity leading to AIDS?

Are you related to Lon?

I found this. It is wiki so you may not find it authentic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_animals

If anything it just highlights the spectrum of sexual practices among living things in general. From the amount of straight married couples that engage in a whole range of kink and fetish activities and receive no real moral criticism, it seems not hypocritical but just mean spirited to condemn monogamous same sex couples in stable traditional relationships.

Scott
In polite response to Scott. The compromise I was addressing was not even in regards to marriage.

It was the proposition that some Christians and social cons compromise the idea that homosexuality is a choice and de facto destructive, and see the community as one that can benefit from a conservative message. I wanted to see what people thought about having a pro-family, traditional values led platform to attract gay families. Expanding the numbers of people believing in the platform and possibly drawing a larger voter base.

While there may not be a large number of LGBT individuals who vote Republican there are an ever growing amount with families, raising children, living what would be considered for all intents and purposes and "All American" suburban lifestyle. It seems to me that their needs as citizens may be better suited by a conservative establishment, but their homosexuality removes the potential due to some perceptions in the party.

The desire for many people in the LGBT community to have "marriage" or some long term legally recognized partnering is because it is simply a part of human nature to couple. And overall, if that monogamous coupling was to occur large scale one could surmise that the promiscuity and AIDS issues facing gay people would diminish. A family values platform would be good not only for the community but also for a more inclusive conservatism.

I don't think this does away with any core tenants. Any thoughts?

You said: Homosexual behavior is known in a wide variety of animal speices--both promiscious and pair-bonding.

Can you name some species of gay animals?

TrigCanRead
Can you read?

Did you read the article?

Bozell clearly states that every group has the right to protest and to boycott to their heart's content.

The point is the hypocrisy.

Go back, reread Bozell's actual words, and then make a comment.

(Use "affect" not "effect," as you did, when you mean "to influence.")

In pretty much the rest of the animal kingdom, p----to anus coupling is unknown. Such coupling is not natural. As such, a society should not sanction it. Such sanction was, and is, what the unnatural community is asking for. The unnatural community is not being persecuted. If Hitler were still around, he could have taken care of that. America is a tolerant and compassionate nation. The unnatural community is uncommonly free to exercise its sexual proclivities. However, the country should not be asked to, and should not, sanction that which Nature does not.

Any individual who speaks out against the unnatural and receives in return the opprobrium of the various unnatural constituencies is to be praised and supported by those who understand how societies unravel.

K'ssandra
You said in dismissing the notion that "any self-respecting gay person would want to deal with people who hate them anyway" the following: "I would never expect a BBC to officiate a gay union ceremony, hire a gay person to work for them, or allow a homosexual to become a member of their church" and "However, that does not give the BBCs the right to try to force everyone in the United States, even non-belivers, to follow their rules".

This was from Jonah Goldberg's thread of December 3: "In New Mexico, a wedding photographer was fined nearly $7,000 for refusing to shoot a gay commitment ceremony. The dating site eHarmony, run by evangelicals, was just bullied by gay activists via the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights into starting up a site for gays. The first 10,000 registrants must get six months free".

It is GAYS now who are trying to "force everyone in the United States, even non-belivers, to follow their rules". And if, as you posit, no self-respecting gay person would want to force someone who despises them to deal with them, well then, how do you explain the examples Goldberg cited? Unless, of course, you want to claim that those gays trying to force association with them on those who don't want such association aren't "self-respecting".

There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that gays are GOING to try to force BBC's to perform same-sex marriages either as a deliberate way to degrade or humiliate them or, more likely, to try to force their closure or at least the loss of their tax-exempt status. Haven't you heard about the vandalism Mormon churches have witnessed since the passage of Prop. 8 in California, all but certainly from gay activists? Or the invasions some gay activists have done to disrupt services of fundamentalist churches like the Mount Hope Assembly of God in Michigan? Explain THESE.

For the Record
Homosexuality is natural, it is a normal deviation found in nature. Homosexual behavior is known in a wide variety of animal speices--both promiscious and pair-bonding.

I know from experience that in order to be a "Bible-Believing Christian" one is required to repress most of one's natural instincts and BBCs have every right to enforce their behavioral edicts within their faith communities--I would never expect a BBC to officiate a gay union ceremony, hire a gay person to work for them, or allow a homosexual to become a member of their church. As if any self-respecting gay person would want to deal with people who hate them anyway.

However, that does not give the BBCs the right to try to force everyone in the United States, even non-belivers, to follow their rules. This nation was founded to protect the rights and opinions of the unpopular, discriminated against, minority--like Puritans, or Quakers, or Baptists were at the time of the founding.

Yes homosexuals are a minority and always will be, but so are Jews in this country, with both being 2-3 percent of the population. As 21st century Americans we should know better than to legally discriminate against someone simply becuase they are different, and a minority, so we can.

Compromise is never a good first step. As soon as you compromise your faith and values to one, you compromise them to all.

How far do you bend before it all breaks? Do you give in to every group who cries loud and boycotts? First, you allow gay marriage. Then, you compromise to those who want multiple marriages. Then, you compromise to the likes of NAMBLA, and allow adults to marry children. Then, you are compromising to those who want to marry animals. It never ends, just like the current bailouts. First it was AIG, then it was Citi, now it will be the auto makers. As soon as you open the door to one, all will try to force the door open.

Then, what meaning will marriage have? The answer is none, which is the goal behind the movement.

If you want a society where sacred unions mean nothing, it all starts with compromise.

Somewhere in the Middle
the LGBT movement is not going anywhere, and it is plain to see that it is only growing in power and influence. as such even some evangelical preachers are conceding that civil unions (secular) may not be the apocalyptic social travesty it was made out to be.

i read townhall because i don't like the feeling of being "preached to the choir" not because i'm conservative. if social conservatives were able to get past seeing homosexuality as an abomination, could it try to bring gay families into the "family values" movement.

the promiscuity of gay culture does no one any good. one can argue what have the done to better the world except F*ck. so my question is, marriage aside, why not work with like minded gays to bring monogamy and a more traditional lifestyle to them, instead of merely requesting that they stay out of the public sphere, or somehow turn straight.

there can be mediation and compromise. if social cons believe that the moral fiber of america is weakening, try strengthening it with all americans. gay ones too, who might want families and may adhere to traditional social mores.

just an idea. but compromise is usually a good first step.

I was surfing the channels last night and came across a show of homosexual men of a ballet troup. They were very professional dancers and so talented at dancing as ballerinas in their tutus, wigs and toe shoes. It was very intertaining and made me remember my love for the Ballet. Toward the end of the show pictures were shown of members of the troup that had died, very few were still alive, maybe two or three. These were all young men and it was never said but one could draw the conclusion they died from AIDS. There are so many talented people in the Gay community and it's great loss is they choose to live lives that will eventually kill them.

Pennsylvania Yankee
Women getting the choice of killing their own child has been a good thing? Since 1973, over 50 million children have been killed through abortion. That's a lot of good lives wasted and plenty of $$$ and jobs that are never coming to fruition. Also, there are links to abortion and higher depression, suicide and cancer rates among women. Those must all be good things as well, I guess???

I am all for equal rights and equal pay, but the influx of women into the work force also has contributed to the amount of latch-key children and children being forced to be raised in day care due to their parents not making enough $ with one salary. But, I guess you, being a liberal, really like this idea. As Hitlery Clinton said, "It takes a village."

Gee, you are an idiot...
Walt Disney World takes the time and effort to have a special day for Gays. Great - in other words, on every other day, homosexuals are not allowed to go to the park, right?

I used to work for GE. At GE, if you are part of an opposite-sex non-married couple, your partner does not qualify for inclusion under your benifit package...however, if the opposite is true and your unmarried union happens to be of the same-sex variety, guess what?? You guessed it - your partner is a welcome participant in your benefit package!!

Wow - GEE - that's fairness for you!

When, and only when, the business of being a victim is finally put OUT of business, will this country finally begin the climb back up the mountain.

Until then, as long as the VICTIM spoon continues to stir the drink, we will remain in the toilet we reside in now.

GEE indeed...

Gee- Whiff.
Homosexuals are using scorched earth, intimidation, and harassment tactics, not a boycott.

The ONLY person I know of that ever made a boycott work on a national leval was Cesar Chavez.

Homosexuals have adopted the same tactics as any other of the grievance committees out there, threats, coercion, legal shenanigans are some more tactics.

The last line of your post about a desert God, and joining the 21st century smacks of the European socialist, post Christian era they believe they are living in.

Here is a clue pal, most of us will not practice our faith, or beliefs in the closet because atheist homosexuals decree so.

It is my belief that prop 8 will probably fall victim to some legal shenanigans. No matter, the people have spoken loud and clear, not just in Cal., twice, but in Florida, Arizona and Arkansas last election.

30 states now bar homosexual marriage, and more will follow. Homosexual marriage is a social distraction, and a loser.

Boycotts for Me. Not for Thee
Lest we forget the Christian whining and gnashing of teeth when Ford, McDonald's, Apple or any progressive corporation offers or markets to LGBT people. The boycotts are threatened the American family is immediately imperiled and they get their way.

What I want to know is, how is this any different?
World Net Daily will post the HRC top 100 most gay friendly corporations in the country and alert their suburban flyover moms to avoid these dangerous subversive corporations. They write emails and letters and eventually have the rights of these employees removed.

Now the shoe is on the other foot. A boycott is a tried and true method of social resistance. One that Christians are fond of when it suits their agenda. The gays are using the same tactics but it's fascism now.

I really can't wait until your children abandon your desert god and embrace the 21st centry.

Republicans are Bolsheviks.

Isn't the $750 Bush-Bolshevik bank bailout Socialism? The Republican party is very similar to the Bolshevik party in Russia circa 1917.

Russia was governed by a triumvirate of three men called Vladimir Lenin, Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin.

Today, Republican-Bolsheviks are George Bush, Hank Paulson and Ben Bernanke.

And now the Republican wealth-redistribution continues. Today, I read that banks, having received their first $250 billion installment of taxpayer monies, are distributing it to their sacred stockholders in the form of dividend checks.

Another item on the banker's list on how to best use the taxpayer's money, is to partake in some lucrative Mergers and Acquisition activity. Oh, these Bush-Bolsheviks are clever in their wealth redistribution. Now, I'm beginning to think the term 'Bush-Fascists' is more apropos. What do you think?

Liberals ARE fascists
Fascist movements were liberal movements. The Nazis were the National Socialist Workers' Party and drew their adherents from Communists which belonged to unions. Mussolini wasn't exactly from the church-loving crowd that might properly be called conservative. Stalin was a mass-murderer, like most liberals no matter how they disguise their hate.

Only morality preclude cruelty, murder, rape, arson, theft, etc. etc. Godless Socialist types have no moral basis for their beliefs.

AynRandLives
Most of the sub-prime loans made were outside the government's regulatory framework. Private mortgage companies made, by far, the most sub-prime loans. They did so, because Wall Street could quickly package them up and sell them off, making a profit for everyone involved. Only banks that had FDIC insurance and are regulated by the government are subject to the Community Reinvestment Act.

How many loans was the insurance company AIG forced to give?

How many loans were Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs forced to give? Nil, they were outside the regulatory framework.

Are you telling me all those pesky credit card and home re-fi offers I got in the mail was because the government forced the companies to send them? I got dozens every week!!

It is becoming more and
more apparent that liberals are rapidly becoming what they fear...fascists.

Ayn Rand and the CRA
One more time.

The CRA only applies to commercial banks. Barely 1/4 of subprimes came from commercial banks, the bulk were originated at investment banks and mortgage firms which have no CRA mandates. In fact, the suprimes originated in the primary market of commercial banks are foreclosing at a lower rate than in the secondary.

Further, if the crux of the problem was simply bad loans to low income buyers we would be facing a US mortgage crisis, not a world wide financial crisis.

The crux in fact was the secondary market's practice of extending loans with borrowed money, then securitizing, bundling, and passing along the debt. Unfortunately, since no one was making their money the old fashioned way thru holding the paper, the new model required a constant infusion of new loans to generate the fees that were now the source of (substantially higher) profits.

I will remind you of the blizzard of advertising extolling consumers to make their homes 'work' for them, make bankers 'compete' for their loans, pay off credit cards etc...all with lower and lower qualifying standards.

Does this sound like an industry being 'forced' to make bad loans?

The GOP Big Lie on Civil Rights
The only Senate votes opposing the civil rights legislation outside of the south came from Republicans. All non-southern Democrats supported the bill.

Most notable among these non-southern Republicans against the measure was the head of the GOP ticket in '64, Barry Goldwater.

The Spiritual component of conservatism has always made room for social change. It was Christians in England (William Wilburforce) that lead to the end of slavery in Western Civilization. President Lincoln(Republican) was instrumental in ending slavery in the US. Republicans were instrumental in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It’s social liberalism’s lack of accountability for personal behavior that the Democratic Party has embraced that has led to our current moral breakdown.

For your spin to work, I would have to believe that the liberal, homosexual, Demoncrat from Massachusetts, that is both gay and liberal, has more power than the President of the United States of America.

Did you know that the Speaker of the House was a Republican from January, 1995 through January of just last year?

Did you know that the House Finance Chairman was a Republican from January, 1995 through January of just last year?

What's the point of being in the majority if, you don't exercise power?

Any attempts of Republican reform of Fannie and Freddie the past decade was about taking power from those two entities and giving it to Wall Street. Wall Street used an average leverage factor of 40 and Freddie and Fannie about five. It was all this over-leveraging that imploded the Financial markets.

You need to read a wider variety of sources.

Manfredo #17 and others...
You obviously have no clue about what the Constitutions "free speech" means. It only says, "Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech."

That's it. It is only there to keep congress in check in regards to individual freedom of speech. It doesn't delineate any citizen's individual freedom of speech. It doesn't say when or in what situation a person can slander another with impunity. It doesn't say anything of the sort. It just keeps Congress off our backs.

Now if we can only keep the courts off our backs, life will be as the framers intended.

Obnoxious
I like Reilly and Black, but after watching parts of the video, all I could say was, "I have no desire to watch any of their movies, because all I'll see is that video in my head mocking me." It doesn't hurt that the quality of the production was really crappy, too.

Hollywood, if you're wondering why your numbers are down, you need look no further than these kinds of antics. You have every right to do it; I have every right to forego their next movie. Sounds like you're killing the Goose to me.

Lepanto says:
"The Democratic party in the 60’s became a leftist force for social change and conservatism emerged as a counterbalance. My point is our nation’s shift to social liberalism has through all indications been a disaster."

That leftist force of social change was the one that said that racial discrimination was unacceptable, that women should be able to work and receive equal pay, that they should get to control when they have children (birth control, abortion), when and with whom they have sex (marital rape laws, the dropping of anti-miscenegation laws), and that they should not be trapped in unhappy marriages (no fault divorce).

I approve of all these changes, and I imagine you approve of many of them. Certainly I hope you approve of the changes in race relations caused by liberal social forces. And I doubt you disapprove of birth control or the addition of laws barring husbands from raping their wives. So don't dismiss a whole movement until you look at the big picture.

your rant is about spreading the wealth, while I was actually commenting on the content of the article. You obviously suffer from BDS, so there is no need for me to engage you. You can blame the three presidents you named for the Depression, or you can read some history. Your choice. Oh, and we are not in a depression now. The economy was still growing under George Bush, also facts which you could look up. The brink of financial oblivion is due to the Democrats' ideology: the Community Reinvestiment Development Act, enacted during Jimmy Carter and enforced by threats to banks during the Clinton administration. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, both recipients of Fannie Mae Fannie Mac largesse resisted any effort to reign those two in. That caused the property and financial market bubble which has finally burst. These are facts also, which you could educate yourself about. But, keep on spewing your BDS. We've come to expect it here on Townall by visiting libtards. And let's not forget that Democrats have controlled Congress during the last two years and the presidential terms that you mention. So, if you want to vilify, go after both sides. I appreciate you acknowledging some very troubling trends. Conservatism is a tougher philosophy to promote due to the essential characteristic of personal responsibility which leads to personal accountability. Great Conservative thinkers such as William Buckley acknowledged the need for a strong spiritual component in conservatism because mankind left to his own device will choose evil. People on their own accord will rarely do the right thing it takes assistance from a higher power; the driving force of Alcoholics’ Anonymous. Our founders understood this and knew our nation would be in trouble if the American people lost the ability to understand that just because you have the right to an action it does not make the action right. Until the 1960’s our Political Parties differed in how the country should be governed i.e. big government, small government, pure capitalism or socialistic (Social Security). They differed little on social issues. The Democratic party in the 60’s became a leftist force for social change and conservatism emerged as a counterbalance. My point is our nation’s shift to social liberalism has through all indications been a disaster.

Republicans did have the 'audacity' to increase farm subsidies from 2001-2007 to the princely sum of $34 billion a year.

We have ethanol mandates, sugar, cotton, soybean, wheat and many more agricultural handouts for the Midwest. These teat-suckers need to get their mouths off the nipples of the government sow. This is a Republican wealth-redistribution program from America's east and west coasts to America's heartland, with America's heartlands values.

Why would one believe that sugar should be subsidized, unless, of course, you are a dentist?

Why should cotton be subsidized, since most of it is exported, the number one importer of cotton is China? Who believes that Chinese manufacturing should be subsidized by the American taxpayer?

It takes a gallon of oil to make a gallon of ethanol. No more mandates! If an American farmer can't compete in the global marketplace, then they can always get a job at Walmart, as a 'greeter.'

Lepanto's alternative?
I'm wondering what Lepanto would propose as an alternative, especially in the divorce context. We liberalized divorce laws because we thought that people who no longer desired to be in a marriage should feel compelled to stay there. What would you prefer??

Lepanto
I am claiming progress towards a society where people are given the freedom to live their lives as they see fit, so long as those choices to not seriously impact others.

Certainly the rise in divorce and abortion are troubling, but there are the inevitable costs of a great benefit -- women now feel free to make choices about who they want to be with and how many children they want to have. Fewer divorces just meant more unhappy (and often abusive) marriages. I have never met a divorced couple about whom I thought, "Man, they were great together. They really should have stuck it out." Given that most people get married in their mid-20s, it doesn't seem all that surprising that about half end in divorce. How many of us are still in the same career we had in our 20s? How many have the same friends? The answer is probably, "Some, but not nearly all."

The Hollywood blacklist
The first blacklist appeared in the form of the Waldorf statement in which Hollywood's top executives refused to hire anyone who refused to state under oath that they were not a Communist.

The more systematic blacklist occured in the form of Red Channels. First released in 1950, Red Channels was a publication which listed suspected Communists and sympathizers. Of the 151 names on the list, nearly all were denied official employment in Hollywood.

One notable exception was Lucille Ball, about whom Desi Arnez famously quipped that the only thing red about Ball was her hair, and even that wasn't real.

Your side is doomed
The politics of vilification that the GOP has always practiced (convincing the public of the existence of some scary "other," and then using it to scare up votes), is unlikely to work well here in the long term. That kind of politics depends on the fact that voters do not have daily social contact with the group of "others," and don't thereby come to realize that the GOP is simply pandering to their worst fears. Now that Americans feel more free to come out of the closet, young people are interacting with homosexuals at high schools, colleges, work, etc. They see gays frequently portrayed in movies and TV shows. Polling suggests that they support gay marriage by a wide margin, and there's no reason to suggest that that view will change with age.

Remember how much fuss there was when Ellen Degeneres came out of the closet? That was in 1997, only 11 years ago. Imagine how little controversy such a story would create now. Prop. 8 seems more likely to be a death spasm than a show of strength, as the gay hate movement moves to its proper place in the dustbin of history.

RW
First of all, there are millions of people in this country who identify as homosexual, many of whom have identified that way their entire adult lives. For these people, homosexuality is not a transient attraction. And despite your confidence, black is not a "discrete, identifiable, coherent grouping." There is no standard about how "black" someone must be to be considered black, and at the margins -- like homosexuality -- it involves a degree of self-identification.

But I don't see why the argument is relevant at all. In my opinion, homosexuals are seeking something that in no way effects any one else and reinforces loving, mutually-supportive relationships that they -- and I -- find valuable. I am friends with a number of gay Americans (trust me, their preferences aren't transient), and simply cannot find a reason to deny them the freedom that I enjoy to marry the person I love.

Not to mention Alger Hiss
Alger Hiss, unlike McCarthy, who lost his law license once he was a felon, was eventually resintated to the bar by....wait for it.....Massachusetts. The Mass. bar association voted not to reinstate, because Hiss still clung to his lie that he was not a communist spy and refused to show remorse. The remorse was required under the bar rules for reinstatement to occur. However, Hiss found a friendly judge who overturned the bar vote and reinstated him. I would love to talk to that judge now and ask him if he feels like a chump now that the FACTS prove Hiss was a communist. Judges, like the activist judges we have today, legislate from the bench from ideology, not facts or the law. It was true than, its true now. You might have guessed from my moniker that I, being an Ayn Rand fan, am virulently opposed to socialism and communism. I spent 22 years in the service as a Russian specialist fighting communism only to live long enough to see our country elect a Marxist president. I am disgusted beyond belief. The country will rue the day, but I won't get any satisfaction from it. Reagan said a rising tide lifts all boats. Well, when the boat sinks, everyone in it drowns equally. The ship of state is taking on water.

Genetic defects are natural

Genetic defects are a natural part of the life cycle process.

Without Genetic defects there would be no evolution.

hollywood blacklist....
I never get an answer....who controlled the list and what were the the consequences?

MY OWN PERSONAL BOYCOTT

.....I don't go to the movies ...

.....Why should I support an Industry that ridicules my principles? ...

.....The last movie I went to see (because I wanted my grandson to see it) was "The Passion of the Christ" ...

.....When I am convinced that a movie does not contain a political agenda I might rent or buy the DVD if it is under $10 ...even then I still get burned at times ...

.....For instance I bought "The Kingdom of Heaven" on sale for $9.99 ...about half way through the movie I picked up a distinct anti-Christian bias ...except for the hero (Orlando Bloom) who was a principled but conflicted Christian ...the Crusaders and the Templar Knights were all portrayed as evil invaders who raped and pillaged in the name of God ... while the Muslims, and their leader Saladin, were shown to be men of honor and compassion who were defending their land against the Christian invaders ...

.....Being a student of History, including the Crusades, I knew that History was being revised to put forth a Liberal slanted viewpoint to portray Christians in a bad light and that this was the intent of the director Ridley Scott and the Hollywood elites .....COLOSSUS

Venona Files
There are also several books out on the Venona files. You can also find them on Amazon. I recommend them as well. Might as well get the facts if you are going to argue against the Blacklist. Besides, a lot of the blacklistees continued to work under other names and Hollywood employed them. You can look that up as well. So much for Hollywood having principles. So, please spare us the lectures about today's blacklisters doing this from a principled stand. Hollywood is full of gays and has forgotten which side of the equation pays the bill: the movie going public or the gay producers. Notice how the few family oriented movies make tons of money but the anti-America movies make squat. But the latter are the movies Hollywood likes to nominate for awards, pretending that these people are brave to buck the ignorant public. It's odd that a retailer would vilify its customers. So, if customers refuse to shop there, Hollywood has no one to blame but itself.

Let's get this Blacklist straight
(Pun intended). McCarthy has been vilified by many, including Hollywood in its recent production of Good Luck, Good Night with George Looney. Hollywood insists on romantizing the Hollwood actors like Bogey and Bacall who marched on Congress to defend the victims of McCarthyism. McCarthy himself was hounded to death, and died an alcoholic and broken man (sound familiar?). However, history has vindicated McCarthy. The Communists he was trying to find did indeed exist, and had infiltrated our government to the highest level. Alger Hiss was indeed a Communist and accompanied Truman to the conference with Stalin and Churchill. The Venona files are Soviet files which have now been opened after the implosion of the Soviet Union and prove conclusively that the Soviets had infiltrated our government. The Hollywood lefists were doing what the leftists today are doing in public education, universities, and the media: inserting communist propaganda into popular entertainment to "educate" the public. Hollywood, which exists to make money, bowed to the will of the people who despised communism, and blacklisted those who were outed by McCarthy. Now the shoe is on the other foot, and the gay mafia are outing those who are in favor of America and its traditional values. It's like watching Project Runway: gay men are favored, and straight men get the chop. I am very careful about which movies I choose to see. I personally boycott Sean Penn (whose father was one of the blacklistees which probably explains the permanent chip on his shoulder and his embrace of communists like Hugo Chavez and Castro), George Looney, et al. Now it looks like I will have to add Jack Black to the list. Too bad, really, I thought he was a comedian. Now we find he thinks he's an expert on religion. There is a recent book out defending McCarthy. You can find it on Amazon. I recommend it.

I feel the same way you do about patronizing movies. While I can't say I haven't gone out to see a movie in 6 years, the number I've gone out to see in that time I can count on the fingers of both hands - and almost all of those were virtue of free movie passes, so in the last 6 years, I think I've actually PAID for at most one movie. The only two movies I've gone to see in a theater in 2008 (both courtesy of free movie passes) are An American Carol and Fireproof. Like you, while we can't STOP Hollywood from making films that treat conservatives with contempt, I don't have to help voluntarily subsidize out of my own pocket those who want to treat us with contempt.

By the way, I just saw Fireproof in a movie theater in the Dallas area. That particular movie was playing in a bunch of theaters in the Dallas area. By contrast, when I scanned the movie listings in the Dallas paper to see how many theaters Bill Maher's Religulous was playing in, I was only able to find ONE.

As Sgt Relic observed in his 6:56 am post, the movie industry today is bleeing money. But a dirty little secret today in Hollywood is this: a lot of the films they make that bash America/George Bush/conservatives in fact are being created for the NON-AMERICAN market - and whatever domestic box-office grosses they get are seen as strictly gravy by their makers.

Sgt Relic
I AM OUTRAGED!

Blacklist is CLEARLY a RACIST Statement! These Gay Africanophobes SHOULD BE ASHAMED of themselves ;)!

IF Homosexuality is Genetic, how is it passed from Generation to Generation?

hypocrisy
Hypocrisy much, Brent?

Christian groups like American Family Association, Family Research Council, and Focus on the Family have been boycotting pro-gay businesses for years and have even gotten people fired.

Yet that seems to be ok to him but when gays boycott anti-gay businesses and people then they are somehow communists?

Brent also seems to be ok with people using anti-gay slurs like f@g.

Nowhere in the Bible
Does it say you can sell your daughter into slavery. Nowhere in the Bible does it say you can arbitrarily stone your wife. Deuteronomy 22:24 is the only place where stoning your wife is mentioned but it also says to stone your husband to. It is the punishment for adultery -- and having had suffered the pain of having an adulterous wife I understand the punishment, because I felt as if I'd been stoned when I discovered them (I am in no way saying that I'd like to stone my ex-wife -- just to make that clear).

As for the vision abandoning the idea of clean and unclean foods. It was more directly stating that we should abandon the idea of clean and unclean people (the sheet is lowered three times showing unclean animals, Peter says he will not even touch the base and unclean and is told not to call base and unclean what God has made clean and then three "unclean" gentiles show up at the door).

No Hollywood for me
I haven't gone to see a movie in over 6 years and I have no plans on it for the future. Why would I go and support someone that who has made it public that they can't stand people like me who are conservative? Just can't support the stupid.

he is an odd one
How has Bozell managed to block out the whole Congressional hearings on unamerican activity. Does he really not understand that the first amendment protects speech from government interference, not from people saying bad things in response?

Here you have gay activists acting in ways that christian activists have acted for some time now. And Bozell is trying to explain why it is horrible that gay activists do it, and also horroble when gay activists object to christians doing it.

He doesn't even pretend he has real principles does he?

Pennsylvania Yankee
You're wrong from the get go, though I admit too many conservatives have also fallen for your keystone error. The argument goes thus: "Homosexuals deserve equal rights to marry, be free from discrimination... etc."
The error? The first word. Who says there IS any discrete, identifiable, coherent grouping as "homosexual?" There are people who have a perhaps-transient attraction to their own sexuality, but this is in no way a solid identifier such as being female, being black, etc.
50 years from now an identification as "homosexual" will seem as ludicrous and unscienetific as the 19th-century pseudoscience of phrenology seems today.

That's OK...
Us conservatives will keep right on going to movies, buying DVDs, and watching TV shows that continue to tell us how stupid, reactionary, and irrelevent we are.

Happy Jack
Sorry to disagree but your take on Jesus is wrong. In the passage in question Jesus was talking about eating with unwashed hands, not unclean foods. The Pharisees were complaining about His disciples eating without washing hands, a man made rule and not part of Torah. The understanding of the stoning incident would take to long to explain in this forum. Jesus Himself said "not one jot nor tittle shall pass from the law"(Torah). Jesus was without sin, which means he had to live according to Torah, because sin is the transgression of Torah.

Is there really a blacklist?
I'm well aware of this issue. However, I've yet to hear a single actor come forward and say he/she was denied opportunity.

But, I still think it's a serious issue. It's Political Correctness run amok, and basically actors/directors with non-Leftists views are intimidated into keeping their mouths shut. That's what PC really is; using social pressure and humiliation to force people to self-censor.

And once again, what gets me is the rank hypocrisy. The sanctinmonious Left who is so hoity toity about their "diversity" and "tolerance". They're anything but! The Left is the most narrow-minded, ideologically rigid, and unfair segment of our society.

Help is on the way!
Without divulging too much and creating another "blacklist", there is a growing cadre of committed Christians moving to Hollywood. They are taking regular jobs in nearly all aspects of TV and movie making and working within to change the environment.

Just as God knows you can't legislate someone's heart to change, these Christians know that personal relationships with hurting people is the only REAL way to affect change. It won't happen over night, but there is hope for better days. I personally know a few young men that love the Lord who will be doing such work in the near future.

Remember to pray for these individuals.

Jesus, Himself, set aside the idea of unclean food in the Gospel of Matthew, when He said (paraphrasing) It is not what goes in your mouth, but what comes out that makes you unclean. He also set aside the idea of stoning sinners when he announced "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone [at a woman caught in adultery.]" And since Jesus is God the Son, he has the authority to do that. Read Frank Pastore's column on the same subject for a better explanation.

Hollywood
The industry blacklisted the commies of the 50's to protect their bottom lines, period.

The entertainment industry is bleeding money as they move farther and farther away from public thinking and attach their businesses to an ideology.

So far it doesn't look like it works. Maybe they need a new blacklist.

Clean and unclean food.
With all due respect Brent, Peter's vision had nothing to do with food. It had to do with people. Jews believed that Gentiles were like unclean animals and refused to eat with them. God was telling Peter that the people were not unclean. This is the trouble with Christianity. Because Christians pick and choose which laws from Torah to keep, they appear hypocritical. Yes, homosexuality is a sin because it breaks Torah, but eating shrimp breaks Torah also.1John 3:4 ... for sin is transgression of the Law (Torah).

If homos
are born that way, it is because of a genetic screwup...their brain evolved with crossed wires......which also affected their eyesight.

Take a look at Rosie O...one would have to have poor eyesight to be attracted to...that.

Therapy!
The director of a musical theater is anti-gay rights?

He should save his money for therapy.

Is It Natural?
Maybe we ought to require everyone to take a course in Biology. While many things people do may be common, it is rather silly to call it natural.

Back to basics
Most people on all sides of the marriage issue -- including those who wish to infiltrate the institution in order to destroy it -- seem to agree that the term _marriage_ has, or should have, meaning.

If _marriage_ is to mean anything, it has to mean _something_. Disagreement over its definition is not nearly so widespread as the press and certain reformist zealots would have us believe; but it does exist, and it deserves to be addressed. This country being partly democratic, we have addressed it by voting on which definition of the institution to use and who may participate in it -- one man and one woman; one man and several women; one woman and several men; one of either; any number of either; one hen, two ducks, three squawking geese, four Limerick oysters; and so on.

In vote after vote, the first option has won. Those who are dissatisfied with these outcomes are free to continue trying to win support. But they should turn down the heat and stop acting like barbarians. The people have spoken. Anyone who cannot accept what they have said should openly repudiate democracy altogether or move someplace more congenial.

ANDERSON659...
...fruit flies!?!?!?

I LOVE IT!!!

Ken, some support to your post
In 2002 Toshihiro Kitamoto found a way to "turn off" homosexual behavior in fruit flies.

Published in the National Acadamy of Science 10-1/2002, 99-20, pages 13232-13237.

Perhaps science is closer than one would think.

One thing for sure.

Homosexuals claim they are born that way meaning its genetics and they are not choosing to be this way.

Soon, with all the advancements in genetics, there will be a cure and this will become a non-issue.

Um ... wow
That is one of the most paranoid, reactionary things I've ever read. And though you assert that, "on Town Hall, we have the protective barrier of invisibility insuring our physical safety," I have bad news for you. I've figured out your secret identity. You are the narrator of this 1961 PSA:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZzYHb-x8nk

It's telling how many of your sentences would seem more appropriate if you were talking about vampires, rather than a normal group of people who are simply trying to live their lives.

Pennsylvania Yankee, about Fabius
You have it backwards,

Arguements you make concerning hollywood etc. are secondary arguements, meant as distractions to the core issue. They are not worth a response.

The ads for the anti 8 group including the LDS/Mormon ads ran in the last days are so anti Christian as to be ludicrous propaganda. The other Hollywierd gyrations are to be expected.

Obviously you and yours see Christians as the impediment to homosexual marriage, and have made Christians the straw man in the quest for the conclusion of the homosexual agenda.Bad decision.

Yank, your mission is a fools errand, history, nature, and spirituality were all components of your defeat in CA.

Fabius is correct, it offers you severe indigestion but he speaks from the truth. Anti Christian bigotry is the game for people such as yourself, no matter what you state.

No state where homosexual marriage has been voted on, passed. CA was your high water mark.

Fabius Cunctator
Once again, you don't make the faintest effort to address my points. The Hollywood blacklist was an organized effort by the entire film industry, under intense pressure by the federal government, to exclude people completely from their chosen profession for over a decade. In contrast, the action of the anti-Prop 8 activists here represents the kind of private protest and boycott that people do all the time. Opponents of gay rights have done the same thing:

http://christianactionleague.org/news/christian-action-leag ue-calls-upon-evangelicals-in-north-carolina-to-join-in-boy cott-of-mcdonalds/

I'd be truly inspired, Fabius, if you strung together at least four or five sentences and tried to actually put together a coherent argument.

fabius cunctator
yeah. i think that's exactly what he was saying. and he was right. you see, the term "free speech" actually comes from a little known document called the constitution. it reads, in part, "gay activists shall make no law..." wait. i think i might have gotten that wrong.

private citizens speaking out against private citizens is an EXPRESSION of free speech. not a suppression of it. government compulsion of industry-wide firings, well, that's a little different from some gay dude writing an angry email.

Pennsylvania Yankee

Actually most everyone cares about "Equal Rights" only Liberals support "Special Rights".

Very pithy Rowly
But the party that now finds itself out of power in the White House and both houses of Congress should probably start caring a little more about the rights of political minorities.

Blacklists.
The House UnAmerican Activities and Joe Mccarthy should not have blacklisted them in the 50's. They should put them before a firing squad. Maybe there wouldn't be so many of them now. They reproduced.

Fabius Cunctator
I posted a fairly long, detailed argument for why there is no comparison between the Hollywood blacklist and the pressure on Eckern to resign. You responded by saying that Bozell "made a perfect analogy on the suppression of free speech." That isn't argument, it's just contradiction. Tell me why my point about the extreme severity of the Blacklist is wrong, or offer some explanation for why you think Bozell's analogy is apt. Otherwise, you're adding nothing to the discussion and just doing this:

The Filthy Hollywood elite
Why is it that the Hollywood sewer always side with tyrants, murderers, rapists, racists, communists, abortion in demand advocates, homosexual mobs, Christian haters, Muslim terrorists, cop killers, American haters, the Taliban, Marine and Army haters, and everything that is decent and noble? The answer is because they are dead and its corpse stinks.

Hollywood is the symbol of everything that is abnormal, unnatural, obscene, disrespectful, profane, ungodly, nasty, decrepit and evil. What can we expect from an industry controlled by those obsessed with their anus?

Vonryansexpress' glass house
People who unwittingly put the word "sex" in the middle of their online handle probably should think twice before doing Freudian analysis of the psyches of homosexuals.

Just a thought.

Liberals just don't learn from History

In the 1950's Liberals in Hollywood created Black lists to punish those who were members or sympathizer of the communist party.

Today, Hollywood Liberals have created another Black list to punish those they disagree with.

The New testament and the Old Testament.
These entertainment community individuals and the gays in particular in Hollywood aren't students of scripture. If you asked one of the principals in the Shaiman production in a public setting to discuss the Old and New Testaments, you get the 'uh, uh, uh,' script.

The actors in Mr. Shaiman production and Mr. Shaiman sing for their supper when they attack Christians. If you rage against Religion, George W. Bush, Sarah Palin or defend Hugo Chavez, Ward Churchill, or Yasser Arafat, you'll keep working and maybe get a fanny pat from David Geffen.

This need to assail Christian worship and tradition is driven by those whose personal sexual conduct is not celebrated in scripture.

The gays and their fellow travelers feel the opprobrium and stigma in their soulless lives and hence demand that the tradition that does not condone them be as marginalized as they have rendered themselves.

The attack on Christ is gay driven by those whose psyche is repulsed by their acts and squalid lives.

Is it any wonder that the community where the liquor merchants find the greatest sales is the gay community?

Like outdoor cats, gays live sad, self-worthless lives that cannot accept the joy of the nativity and therefore seek to neuter it as they have done to their own hearts.

Hollywood today is not Dalton Trumbo. Regrettably, it has all the essence of Pee Wee Herman and all the tolerance of George Lincoln Rockwell.

One final difference
Finally, people were blacklisted because they were accused of having some association with Communists and refused to ruin the careers of their friends and colleagues by turning them in. Eckern was pressured to resign because he gave a donation in favor of discriminating against gays. I don't have to pretend that the two actions are equally noble.

Bozell distorts history
The pressure put on backers of Prop. 8 cannot be legitimately compared with the viciousness of the Hollywood blacklist.

The blacklist was studio-wide, instituted by a group of the major studios and coordinated by the Motion Picture Association of America. Furthermore, the blacklist was instituted after extreme pressure from the House Committee on Un-American Activities, which gave the list a much more oppressive and quasi-governmental character. And finally, the blacklist lasted well over a decade, effectively denying people any work in their chosen profession.

Now let’s look at what happened to Scott Eckern. He donated money to the Yes on 8 campaign. One producer wrote to say he would not let his plays be performed there anymore, and there was an e-mail campaign urging him to resign. Eckern was not fired, as were those put on the Hollywood blacklist. He resigned under pressure from a single organization. He was not spurned by an entire industry in a systematic way, nor has be faced the coercive pressure of the federal government, or been implicitly accused of being subversive. And there is no reason to believe that he won’t be able to find work again immediately.

Bozell characteristically distorts the cruelty of the Hollywood blacklist, and misstates the reasons why it remains a hallmark of government abuse and industry cowardice. Has he no shame?

So, No "South Park" In Sacramento?
Yeah, Marc Shaiman wrote the music and songs to South Park: Bigger, Longer, And Uncut (Maybe Trey and Matt wrote the songs, I forget which way it went.) So, I guess he's not going to allow "Blame Canada" to be played in Sacramento now?

More to the point: Do any of you really believe that most of these people in that video hate Christians? If I did hate Christians and was a anti-Christian bigot, that would mean I would hate my cousin-in-law, who is a Christian pastor, or my late mother, who loved Jesus and prayed to him in times of need. But here's what I believe: They don't hate Christians. They do hate reprobates who claim they are Christian but actually have their own radical agenda, just as some Christians hate us so-called "eeee-vil secular progressives" for having our "eee-vil" agenda, as well as trying to scam us out of our hard earned money. Why do you think they keep claiming there is a so-called "War on Christmas"? Because it's the easiest way for them to "Grinch" you out of money you would have otherwise used to get your loved ones Christmas presents. Groups like Focus On The Family, the American Family Association and the Catholic League of Douchebags (I just couldn't resist) are the real enemies to our sovereignty, not these so-called secular progressives (which I am one and proud of it.) These are the anti-secular, anti-decent bigots you have to watch out for.
