Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

ABC generously offered the Democrats a gift that the Republicans were not given in this electoral cycle -- a two-hour debate, in primetime, on a weeknight. Not only that, it was hosted by former Democratic aide George Stephanopoulos and Charlie Gibson. Left-wing bloggers promptly greeted this gift by smacking ABC in the mouth. Like an abused spouse, ABC responded by repeating all the leftist complaints on its airwaves and supinely saluting the impressive dexterity of the Obama campaign.

Question: What did ABC do wrong? Answer: For once it veered from liberal orthodoxy.

Question: Why did ABC feel the need to atone? Answer: Because it veered from liberal orthodoxy.

The Politico newspaper recently acknowledged the obvious point that the nation's political press is deeply intoxicated at the thought of President Obama, and sometimes needs "detox" after being on the trail with him. But they also noted that the press in this political cycle is more sensitive to the New Media -- the hard-left bloggers from the Huffington Post to Keith Olbermann, who often comes across as either the script reader for Media Matters or the anchor of Daily Kos TV.

These forces once again are proving that the media don't mind being seen as unfair to their reactionary enemies, but are sickened at the thought of being unfair to their progressive friends.

The left has watched conservatives make a national issue of the media's liberal bias, and they see the surveys that show overwhelming national sympathy for this concern. So they decided to get organized and started complaining about how conservative and Republican-enabling the media are -- no matter how ridiculous this argument sounds. Their platform is unequivocal: You can never be enough of a Democratic Party man for the left. You have to prove your loyalty with in-kind contributions in each news cycle.

Seeing the storm of response underlines one obvious fact. Liberals are censorious. They expect the liberal media to dwell only on matters that advance the liberal agenda. Any issue that challenges liberal orthodoxy, or in any way might paint a liberal in a negative light becomes a "phony" issue, and bringing those up is embarrassingly unprofessional. Any hostile question is an egregious naked pyramid of surrender to Republican talking points.

Thus Obama-loving leftists hated the "trivia" and "distractions" that emerged in the debate's first 45 minutes. ABC began by asking the tired question of whether Clinton or Obama would select the other contender as a running mate. They also pressed Hillary on whether she really thinks Obama can win in the fall. But that's not the trivia that offended.

ABC disgusted the Obama-ogling bloggers by dwelling on Obama's developing vulnerabilities. Gibson questioned Obama's remarks about the bitterness of poorer voters to cling to their guns and their religion, and their antipathy to immigrants (instead of voting for liberals). They asked several questions about Obama's longtime minister, the inflammatory Reverend Jeremiah Wright. And they asked if it wasn't a "major vulnerability" that he won't wear a flag pin.

(This last issue is a bit comical, coming from ABC News, whose president, David Westin, banned all ABC News employees from wearing a flag pin on the air so they could remain "independent and objective." Westin also resembled Obama's mysterious sense of patriotism in suggesting he didn't think it was his role to decide whether the Pentagon was a legitimate target for terrorists. The candidate could have proclaimed that he has demonstrated all the patriotism of your average ABC News reporter.)

But the biggest surprise was Stephanopoulos raising the case of "a gentleman named William Ayers," the unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist, who in a poetic lightning strike of bad timing for the left, was quoted on the front page of the New York Times on Sept. 11, 2001, expressing regret, sort of: "I don't regret setting bombs; I feel we didn't do enough." Obama had held an early organizing meeting for his state Senate campaign at the Ayers house, and the Obama campaign had described their relationship as friendly.

Heresy! Olbermann took to the MSNBC airwaves and denounced Stephanopoulos, the closet Republican, for asking this vile question suggested by conservatives. This would have never happened on Olbermann's cockeyed "Countdown" show, since he avoids conservatives as if they'd infect him with scurvy, rickets and dengue fever.

Leftists seem to have a medical approach to public debates. "Republican talking points" are treated like a fatal bacteria and the media are supposed to sterilize all public forums to avoid infection. But as much as the bloggers might intimidate the TV-news stars from uncomfortable anti-Obama stories, they will still be distributed far and wide through the Internet, talk radio and political ads. Ultimately, their horror at any hostile questions to Obama doesn't project much confidence in Obama's ability to withstand the heated kitchens of the presidency.

my 2 cents
I didn't see the debate itself but it must have been entertaining.

bill moyers was ballistic about it on his show, and I skipped that one too. ABC musta done something unprogressive.

btw
Mr. B - Why do you complain about the msm not offering the Republicans a prime time debate when we already know who the Republican candidate will be?

Don't be so sensitive.

the idea
that conservative media is not just as biased ridiculous.

i simply have to point to hugh hewitts blog during the mitt romney run for the nomination.

most of conservatives who responded to his posts and columns accused him of bias.

second, conservatives like this author are about 10 years behind.

with the growth of talk radio, cable news and of course the media i am using right now, the internet) both sides are now monitored fairly effectively by the system of checks and balances that the market provices.

all media is now part of the mainstream media.

i have to laugh at the reference to olbermann, ever since he started challenging oreilly in the ratings , he has become the devil for the conservative right.

Well,
Of course well all know about the liberal media bias and how conservative opinions can’t get on the news. Why, I seen conservatives on TV read them in the news papers and heard them on the radio saying how you can’t see them on TV, read them in news papers or hear them on the radio. In fact, there are so many conservatives on the new telling us how there are no conservatives on the news that I’m worried that the story will get lost amongst conservatives fighting to say there are no conservatives in the media.

"second, conservatives like this author are about 10 years behind. with the growth of talk radio, cable news and of course the media i am using right now, the internet) both sides are now monitored fairly effectively by the system of checks and balances that the market provices."

-Hmmm....Then why did you say the conservative media is biased, and you used this site as an example. Aren't we all alike? Where are those checks and balances?

"all media is now part of the mainstream media."

-Is that a fact? If that is so, why did ABC get thrown proverbial rotten tomatoes at them for Charlie and George asking questions like a real panel should? Why was Olbermann crying out he would never have asked those questions? Is it because the MSM is still slanted heavily on the liberal side, that if one commentator steps out of line and actually acts and thinks for themselves, they get pummeled by the Left? This proves it right here.

"i have to laugh at the reference to olbermann, ever since he started challenging oreilly in the ratings , he has become the devil for the conservative right."

Olbermann is nothing to fear, nor to respect. I had the displeasure of watching his show. Even if I were a leftist, I would come away feeling embarrassed that he actually is considered a "voice" for my party. He is no devil, again you are wrong. He is a mere fly in a bowl of clam chowder unable to upright himself.

Come on
So, now that there is Fox and talk radio, the media is no longer biased tot he left? How many of the broadcast networks are even in the center? None. Every broadcast network, and 2 of 3 big cable news networks are solidly left. How about "the paper of record", the NYT? Or most big city papers (with a few exceptions)?

I'm sorry, but talk radio and Fox do not outweigh the immense mass of left leaning media outlets.

Also, talk radio really doesn't count, as it is an opinion outlet. I don't care if opinion is biased, it should be. What we are complaining about are the supposedly "unbiased' news outlets, which almost entirely slant left.

Actually, the fact that Fox, with people like Alan Colmes, Geraldo Rivera and Great van Sustern is considered "far right" shows just how left the media is. Fox would, reasonably, be considered center, maybe center-right, if we were not so used to a media being so far to the left.

And I Did See the ABC Debates
It was worth every second.

I came in expecting a soft gloved approach to Obama, as all the previous debates had done, while Hillary would get pig piled. I felt all the issues that would blow Obama's character and his true ethics would be ignored and not even mentioned.

I was wrong.

ABC's Charlie and George surprised me. They actually asked Obama the real questions we all wondered about. When they weren't satisfied, they kept probing. I cheered. We finally were able to get somewhere and expose the messiah for the disgruntled carnie worker he really is.

I am also not surprised Charlie, George and ABC are getting slapped by their viewers for this. They acted out of step. They fell out of the link step line. How dare they inquire about things that don't really matter to the American people?

Why...they must be working for the Right, right?
I mean, a dutiful MSM TV station couldn't possibly act in such a manner. Let's boycott them to show them we don't like people thinking and speaking freely anymore! They must always act in the way we deem is correct. Poor Obama having to answer for Ayers, Wright, Gun and Religion, patriotism....that's too tough on him...

I couldn't agree with you more, on most of what you wrote and I am a conservative republican. If you have been commenting on TH.com, for any length of time, you will notice, that people dissapear, as well as anything and everything they have ever written. Especially those republicans that buck the system and do not go along with the status quo. Further, if you will notice, that if an article is responded to enmass by comments not favorable to the propaganda of the writer, it is removed from the main page of TH.com rapidly, while other articles will linger for a week, as long as the commentators are in agreement with the hype.

What I would dissagree with you about, is the term "conservative right" and think you have been propagandised into the wrong use of the term, by the very same people you disagree with, who themselves have hijacked the term only to con the public at large.

They are in no way from the conservative right, but are a whole different animal and more closely resemble fascist elite globalists. Their political slant is more about forcing a supreme oligarchy on the world, at the end of a gun and justify their murderous goals, in the guise of a faux freedom.

I'm Beginning to Believe Conspiracy
"What conspiracy?" you ask.

Well, look at it this way.

How exciting is a basketball game in the 4th quarter with the score 112 to 78? Folks are rushing to get to their cars to beat the rush.

Compare that to a game that's still tied up in double-overtime -- WOW!!!

SO --

Consider that the MSM might be doing whatever they can to shore up support for whichever side is doing more poorly, and/or drag down whichever side is doing better. Maybe they're trying to keep the race as close as possible.

Clinton looked as if she was beginning to sink -- time to pour the sand under Obama's tracks. Now, if Clinton starts to speed too far ahead -- watch and see if they don't start pouring more sand under *her* tracks.

A close race race makes for more excitement. More excitement makes for more RATINGS!!

What do you think? Serious possibility? Or am I too paranoid?

judgedredd1 -- Disappearing Comments
"If you have been commenting on TH.com, for any length of time, you will notice, that people dissapear, as well as anything and everything they have ever written. I have not witnessed this phenomenon.

I *have* seen posters disappear, but with opinions at all points on the spectrum. Generally, most of the time, it's because a poster is particularly nasty and offensive, and a lot of people click "Flag as Offensive."

But I think sometimes a few liberals get together and decide somebody is making too much sense. I have seen poster "Fletch" disappear completely, even though he generally *agrees* with the columnist, but he also generally makes the liberals look foolish in their ignorance. The only explanation can be a lot of them got together (or one person created numerous logins -- nothing to stop that) and flagged all of his postings.

Furthermore, I myself have been vehemently disagreeing with several columnists. Check the archives for Bozell's last week's column (or even earlier). Check D'Souza, Norris. Last I checked, my postings are still there.

Unca Alby
Actually, one possibility is if a user is banned completely, his name is deleted from the db, at that point his posts may not display because of how the site is programmed. (I am assuming a join between name table and comment table, and once name is deleted the join will no longer return any values for that user.)

However, you usually do not get banned for your views but because of how you express them, otherwise a lot more people would be banned.

"I have not witnessed this phenomenon."

Thats ok, maybe now you will.

Religious leftist
The big difference (which is completely lost on libs) is that media conservatives like Hugh Hewitt, Rush, et al make no bones about their conservatism. The don't hide behind some phony pretense of "objectivity" like the leftists in the MSM who laughably insist they are impartial, when anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see that they are little more than democrat cheerleaders.

Censorship Of The Left
I went on a feminist blog called "postbourgie" and left a comment why men and women are not of equal abilitiy. I gave a cornicopia of evidence. Yet two hours later the feminazi running the blog deleted my post! LOL

This is the only way the left can "feel" secure about themselves. They must censor ALL opposition that makes them look silly and they cannot reasonably refute.

This is happening with feminists, homocentrics, abortionists, evolutionists, Obamaists and global warming hysterics.

You know you have them by the (primary targets) when they are forced to resort to censorship to hide their obvious short comings.

All hail free speech! LOL

shells
how are you doing, good i hope.

i used townhall because of hewitt's obvious bias towards romney and every day conservatives called him out on it.

that was aan example of checks and balances.

the internet is a perfect example of checks and balances.

you and i can research any stateament or fact on google which is another check and balance.

it is a new age for media

LIbs can't stand the truth!
Commies always abhor the truth...why else would libbies get so worked up when their Obama man got beatup on the debate. If he can't take the heat what's he gonna do with foreign despots?....lick their boots like Obama did Wrights?

religiouslib -- MSM
I partially agree with you. Everyone has access to information on a previously unimaginable scale. A lot of mis-information on equally unimaginable scales also. There are no Gatekeepers of Truth the way there once was.

However, it's too soon to dismiss the influence of the MSM, especially television. If Oprah sneezes and grabs a box of Kleenex, immediately purchase shares in Kimberly-Clark (KMB) coz their sales will go through the roof.

If televised news reporters play softball with their favorite candidates, that translates into a big push in those candidates' favor, more so than from any other type of media. If televised news reporters play hardball with; or worse, completely ignore; the candidates they don't like, well -- those candidates are toast.

There are no Gatekeepers of Truth?
Unca Alby, don't know what you've been smokin' but the press, today called the MSM has NEVER been the Gatekeepers of Truth. Truth is in the eye and pen of the beholder, being human that's one thing we should all realize. You can believe only half what you see, nothing your hear and certainly not the press (Prostitutes Representing Every Stupid Story).

Actually
The objection concerned the fact that for basically the first hour of a two hour debate there was not a single question on a substanative issue that a new president would face. There has never been a claim that raising a scandal question was outrageous. But in past debates there were a large number of issue questions and a few scandal questions. This was the first debate for either party in which scandal questions were the entirety of the most watched part of the debate. Obviously if anyone had done this to Republicans when their nomination was in doubt Bozell would be writing about the biased nature of the liberal media.

And contrary to Bozell's description above, ABC noted the criticism but has consistently defended its all scandal all the time approach to debates.

The point
isn't the unavailability of conservative news sources. It's the liberal dominance of the media in general -- which is something like 4-1 or 5-1 -- and the liberal dominance of outlets that purport to be unbiased -- e.g. ABC, NBC, CBS, NYT.

The infighting among the Leftists is really fun to watch:

George Stephanopolous is a stooge for Sean Hannity?

Bill Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro are racists?

but wait...
still the most searched informaton on google was Senator Obama, anything negative about him, Senator Clinton anything about policy, laws, First Lady etc.

so clearly, the negative campaigning is working.

FOx news has more outlets in every City, and liberal talk show hosts could not get any time on the same station. The news industry and information industry is in control of what you know.

UNFAIR & UNBALANCED
Lets be "fair & balanced" about several things here, shall we.

First - the Left is trying to make it sound as if they are complaining about the 'lack of issues' questions asked & answers given.

IF this is their true position it only proves a point conservatives have been trying to make all along...Libs are slow learners!

Forget for a moment that the 'differences' between the two Liberal candidates on any given issue or policy are miniscule. Though the FACT remains that after 20 something debates prior to the ABC 'Obama-bashing' the Libs-Left still needed to hear it AGAIN!!!

I thought it was a reasonable idea to let the public hear NEW STUFF...and get some NEW ANSWERS on things the two certainly DO NOT see eye to eye on.

As for 'Media Bias' - The Left sees only that FoxNews is Biased because everything else is tilted their way, which to them is the 'only way'. Thus Fox = Bias.

Even the poster that made the claim -
"olbermann, ...challenging oreilly in the ratings" used his own bias in reporting the "fact" to us.

It was soon pointed out by Sunsword that the "actual" figures are-
Keith Olbermann: 877,000 total viewers
Bill O'Reilly: 2,578,000 total viewers

To which the original poster cited this -
here is the website for 18-54 demographics FOR THE LAST WEEK!!!!

LOL
Bias? You Decide.

W/O=

Universe is about 13.5 billion years old
and the earth about 4.5 billion years old. We know this from the evidence of our senses and universally vetted logic pertaining to our senses.

The media would be a total fraud if it didn't use this world wide agreement on reality as the basis for its news coverage. There is no OTHER SIDE to the age of the universe and the earth, or to gravity. FAIR AND BALANCED doesn't mean finding the one person on earth who believes that the earth is flat and giving him equal billing to everyone else.

This is the conservatives' problem with the MSM. Conservatives are routinely the guys who think the earth is flat and are unhappy and whining that the MSM is biased against them.

If course the MSM is biased against ignorance. They wouldn't have anyone's respect if they weren't.

I just gotta chuckle
Republican Talking points from ABC? Dude, that herb must be excellent! Odd how such questions were not diversions when asked about George Bush. Heres the thing, it is known, by anyone that cares to notice, that the vast majority of the MSM is bent to the left. What is causing the anger from the Snobamists is that the bent isn't far enough to the left. Add this to the element that disagreeing with someone that is black makes you a racist and Hocus Pocus! A Right Wing ABC! Aint life grand!

let's start with this factoid
Nothing on the tv airwaves is as biased as Fox
News and nothing is as biased on radio as Talk
Radio gang of Republicans.

Now what are the issues and are they being discussed? You will have to tell me because I listen only to the BBC and read only the
Christian Science Monitor. The BBC gives me
world news that is heard no where else in the
United States. And the CSM is about as even handed politically as anyone could possibly
hope for. They too have also discovered that there are issues beyond the personalities of
the campaigners.

I do have to make an exception here. Sorry.
I also listen to the Daily Show and Stephen Colbert. What a hoot.

That is where I discovered that someone on Fox
wanted to make a point that maybe, just maybe
Obama was giving someone the finger when he
rubbed his cheek.

That is how sad the news media is these days.

Sans Pareil
"the Libs-Left still needed to hear it AGAIN!!!

Where in heaven's name do you get that ridiculous
idea. These debates take place because the media
puts them on. I for one quit listening to them
a long time ago. And I don't plan to tune again until late summer.

Stop and Think
Everyone whining about how unfair it was for Charlie Gibson to ask Barack Obama to explain his own words is actually arguing that Obama cannot handle such questions, as he succinctly showed himself in the "debate". What it boils down to is that, even in the eyes of his most ardent supporters, Barack Obama is a political lightweight who can be knocked out with the lightest of jabs. John McCain and Hillary Clinton couldn't buy advertising this effective as a case against Obama, and we should urge these people on at every chance.

i am sans pareil
you don't do well with facts do you.

i simply googled "latest cable news ratings" and produced the websites and the numbers.

i made no comment on swordson's numbers, just went to a source and produced them.

you, of course, being objective, decided that my producing facts was biased.

quite logical

by the way, where did swordsons numbers come from?

what period of time were his numbers for?

what age groups were included or not included or was it overall?

did you ask yourself any questions about the numbers produced or accept them at face value?

did you assume that because he seemed conservative his numbers could be trusted?

isn't that bias.

see that is the problem.

you cannot trust liberal or conservative media without fact checking them.

What everyone should dwell on
The most important aspect of that debate is being ignored: Obama's capital gains tax policy stance. All of the other points (Wright, Flag pin, Ayers, Pledge of Allegiance) should be secondary. How on earth can a candidate for president in 2008 get away with that? Obama's true colors shone brightly, and the sad part is that most people just don't get it, or choose to scoff at it because they are so hypnotized. This man clearly stated that he favors raising a tax that historically brings in LESS revenue when it is raised. The justification was fairness, and paying for things like health care and infrastructure. How is bringing in less money to pay for those things advantageous? And he gets away with saying revenue may or may not be less depending on what's happening on Wall Street. Is everyone out of their mind? How can someone explain away empirical evidence by just stating "well, that may or may not happen"? Does he really get a free pass on that? Folks, this is an issue that *really* matters. People can have shady associates and it doesn't guarantee they will behave similarly. But this is a man who unashamedly states that he is a pure Marxist on many levels, be it his views of religion or economics, and advocates policies tied to hundreds of years of failure, misery, stagnation, and death.

Proud Lib-Congrats on your new Record!!!
What you just did is called a "non sequitur"; you also managed to shoehorn "ad hominem abusive," "red herring," and "appeal to ignorance" into your brief post.

Four examples of faulty reasoning in the space of a mere 146 words (yes, I counted, or actually MS Word did). That's one fallacy for every 36.5 words. Congrats! A new TH record!!!

So, please tell me again how ignorant and backward we conservatives are? (And make sure to be EXTRA snooty, superior, and condescending this time. We flat-earthers must learn our place!)

Toodles!

Love and Rockets,

Norman the Knuckle Dragging, Troglodytic, Flat-Earther

Who IS Obama?
You say that questions to Obama regarding Rev. Wright and Mr. Ayers are irrelevant and are not substantive?

Garbage. We know who Hillary Clinton is. We know who John McCain is. There are decades of history for us to know who they are and what they have done so that we can evaluate how either might fare as President of the USA.

We DON'T know Obama. He has not accomplished much of anything in his two years as Senator.

What do you do to evaluate a candidate when their is no job experience to consider? YOU LOOK AT CHARACTER.

Boy, have we discovered that he is a character!

Does Obama share Rev. Wright's hatred for the US and his views, like AIDS was created by the US government and purposely injected into blacks?

So far, Obama's only answer has been that Rev Wright is no worse than his wife's grandmother who occasionally uses an embarrassing stereotype.

Why is Obama friendly with William Ayers, an unrepentant terrorist?

Obama's has downplayed the fact that Ayers kicked off his State Senate campaign, that they are like neighbors and just happen to have crossed paths several times.

Obama's second response was to equate an actual terrorist with blood on his hands, to a Senator and a medical doctor, who believes that abortion is murder and murderers should be prosecuted.

Obama did not tell us what he believes. What he has done is to claim moral equivalence between the likes of Rev. Wright and William Ayers and family members and friends in order to appear tolerant and at the same time, put distance between questionable characters and himself.

It takes nothing to mouth empty platitudes which your followers want to hear. Can he accomplish them? Does he really want to? I don't know, and you don't either.

So, who is Obama? What does he believe? What is his character? He hasn't told us yet.

So, until he gives me credible answers, don't get into a snit if I continue to ask.

BC and Taxes
Charlie Gibson raised the point and so did BC. Neither provides any documentation for the claim. That's,in part, because there is no evidence of the claim. It's like claiming that the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts on individuals increased government revenue. The reasons for tax revenue increases are FICA/Medicare taxes and corporate taxes. In real terms, individual tax receipts are less than in 2003.
See the OMB budget reports found on the White House web site.
Further information,in clear easy to read tables is at http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/2089.html

What's more...
is the audacity of the left to spout that there is no evidence (when in fact there is) while at the same time shielding themselves from providing evidence. Let's cut the bull and state a fact: the Democratic platform is income redistribution. It's been that way for the last 50 years at least. The goal of this is a classless society of equals. No poverty, nobody without health insurance, nobody without whatever is decided they have a right to. There have been trillions of dollars confiscated from individuals in order for politicians to try to buy their way to these goals. Somebody provide evidence that income redistribution has successfully leveled socio-economic class disparities.
Nobody will be able to provide that, because it does not happen. But, words like "fairness" always seem to trump reality.

Back to capital gains taxes
Another point that keeps getting glossed over is that the Democrats can get away with saying they won't raise taxes on the middle class. This is a flat out lie, because so many in the middle class are invested in stocks in some fashion. I am one of those people! I know there are many more like me. But, I am one of those who the Democrats pretend doesn't exist. An individual who lives within their income, and actually makes the decision to hold themselves personally accountable and do things like save money and contribute to a 401k or IRA is of no use to them. I don't need the government to confiscate property of other people in order to buy me things I should be providing for myself!
I am convinced through my life experiences that a huge number of the 47 million uninsured that we keep hearing about could in fact afford to purchase health insurance if they made it a priority.
The only way up is for people to be incentivized to rethink their priorities. Prosperity is not a zero-sum game. Those who are wealthy are not wealthy at the expense of someone in a lower income bracket. People create wealth by providing a good or service that other people around the world see value in and are willing to pay for. Taking money from them to pay for the less productive will not magically lift our lower class. That old "give a man a fish..." proverb couldn't be truer.

BC
did you even look at koolhand's link?

his numbers seem to indicate that tax revenue is not related to the capital gains tax.

in other words, the revenue over a long period of time 1954- 2006 does not correlate to the rising and falling of the rate on capital gains.

sometimes a cut produced more revenue.
sometimes a raise produced more revenue.

it seems outside factors have more to do with revenue flow.

religiouslib
Yes I viewed the data, and there is nothing there that invalidates the data in the link I produced. The same correlations are there.
Revenue decreases have been observed when rates increased. This is only one half of the problem. The other half is that a rate increase is affecting nearly everyone. An estimated 100 million hold stock in some way. Not all of these people potentially affected are rich hedge fund managers. Of the 100 million who hold stock, how many of those do you think are rich hedge fund managers? Democrats want you to think that most of the 100 million are extremely wealthy individuals who will not be affected by a rate increase. This is simply not the case.
An increase in the capital gains tax will hurt everyone, because it will take money out of the hands of those of all levels of prosperity. This is never a good thing.

wait a minute bc
i recognize other variables are involved but the republican stance on this is not always true.

if you look there are years when the gains tax was cut and revenues went down and years when the gains tax went up and so did revenues.

in other words it is not a hard fast rule.
