Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Howard Kurtz, the longtime Washington Post media reporter and CNN media-show host, inadvertently defined exactly what's wrong with our political culture when he was asked in an online chat about actress Sally Field blurting out in her Emmy victory speech that if women ruled the world, there'd be no (expletive deleted) wars. Kurtz said awards shows might not be the best slot for political analysis, "but she said it at a live news event, so in a way Fox was censoring the news."

This is "news"? Sally Field's incoherent rant, delivered after a series of stammers, is somehow on par as newsworthy with what your average senior diplomat, military officer, professor, public policy expert or congressman has to say on the subject of war? Expertise means nothing. Fame is all, and grasping a national spotlight for a "zinger," even if it utterly fails to zing, is somehow the political highlight of the weekend.

This is not news. It demonstrates that a key measure we have for punditry in our political culture is fame, not a display of any brains. Field's emission wasn't simply under-thought, but also deeply sexist. Remove the men from political leadership, and the world would never see another war? Can you imagine a movie star or TV actor mounting a national TV platform to say the world would be so much better off if women couldn't vote, or serve as world leaders?

At least Field's remarks were mercifully short. Celebrities usually embarrass themselves at great length. This often happens on Bill Maher's "Real Time" show on HBO. The rap star Mos Def (real name: Dante Smith), often honored by critics as one of those "socially conscious" rappers, recently unloaded a rant that seemed designed to demonstrate he was almost mentally unconscious. To wit, he claimed:

1. George Washington "and all them dudes" that founded America "was terrorists as far as the Queen was concerned."

2. "The Catholic Church's stance about child molestation is a form of terrorism in and of itself."

3. Was Osama bin Laden was behind 9-11? "Absolutely not. ... Highly educated people in all areas of science have spoken on the fishiness around the whole 9-11 theory." (Presumably, this includes highly educated scientists like Rosie O'Donnell.)

4. Terrorism is a natural response to murderous American imperialism. "There are valid reasons even to a lot of terrorists' arguments -- quote-unquote, terrorists' arguments -- about why are they frustrated with colonial presence, imperial presence. The way that this government has pursued its foreign interests has been meddlesome, murderously meddlesome."

5. The American space program is a fraud, too. "I don't believe these (maternal expletive deleted) have been to the moon, either."

This man doesn't need a microphone. He needs medication.

The same syndrome is encouraged online by sites like The Huffington Post, where loons like Sean Penn and Alec Baldwin have unloaded bizarre commentaries about the "crypto-fascist scum" running our government, and no one asks what made these movie stars so much more mentally impressive than a plate of mashed potatoes. When they're not mangling facts, these embarrassing celebrity pundits routinely malign conservatives as evil humans who have no shred of idealism and no fraction of sympathy for the common man.

A few days ago, actor Richard Belzer unloaded his latest mini-term paper of political science on Arianna Huffington's wacky blog. "Conservatism is in its last throes, if you will," he wrote, "twisting in the wind, dying like communism did because neither philosophy works by definition -- they both operate from the fraudulent premise built around contempt for and control of the people."

This is the same Belzer who appeared on Bill Maher's show last year boasting that he knows a lot more about Iraq, reading his alleged 20 daily newspapers, than the soldiers on the ground there, since they're losers, "19- and 20-year-old kids who couldn't get a job." Armed with his superior knowledge, Belzer then lectures conservatives about their contempt for the common American.

Not every celebrity is a nitwit. Some are wise enough to hire political tutors. But it's all the same to many in today's "news" media. Anything a celebrity says, no matter how moronic, is defined as news. Liberals use to say it was dangerous to leave the country to a befuddled actor like Ronald Reagan. Some still do even now, when proof of his acumen has been documented for the history books. But they are so fond of truly befuddled actors -- like these.

Well, yeah, duh.
"Celebrities usually embarrass themselves at great length."

Natch. They generally don't have the intellect to carry a conversation that's not about themselves any further than two or three sentences.

Ever hear Sean Penn expounding on his views on international politics?

It's a hoot; Jeff Spiccoli wrought in real life.

This article should be called...
Enbarressing Celebrity Pundits - and the Men who Love Them.

Brent Bozell - you are one wacky right winger.

How many columns are you going to write about how much you don't care what celebrities have to say? When will this itch of yours finally be scratched?

And why were you watching the Emmys if you hate Hollywood? Why do you watch Bill Maher?

If it's not news, why do you devote entire columns to talking about it?

Fact is, that many people on both sides of the isle say extremely stupid, ignorant things all the time (check Ann Coulter)

Someone is obviously saying something to get under your skin, Brent - or it wouldn't bother you so much.

Frankly, most people don't care.

As The Twentieth Centuries....
....greatest social commentator, Homer J Simpson once said "rock stars, is there anything they don't know?"

I can't get enough of ignorant celebs
especially rappers who probably spent all of one week in high school before hitting the streets to pursue fame and bling.

Rosie's a favorite too. She embraces the Truther conspiracy theories because steel doesn't melt. Actually it does Rosie, in the neighborhood of 2100 degrees F. But it loses 90% of its strength at just under 900 degrees.

Lately I've been greatly amused by Bab's Stepford husband, James Brolin. He was plugging a new movie on WTNH radio in New Haven on 9/11. The hosts had to remind him it was the anniversary of the terror attacks. He said, "Right, oh, yeah! Oh, Happy 9-11."

And then there's Janine Garafolo who, when asked why she didn't protest Clinton's military forays in the Balkans, Somalia and Africa, said, "I guess it wasn't hip then."

It's unfortunate that so many people who can't think for themselves find wisdom in the words of celebrity idiots.

for Fightr4right
Fightr4right says: "It's unfortunate that so many people who can't think for themselves find wisdom in the words of celebrity idiots."

I've got news for both you and Brent: Most average Americans really don't care what Hollywood activists say about politics. The only ones who rail about it are political junkies like us.

Mostly because Americans properly regard Hollywood celebrities as eccentric but harmless: These celebrities can say stupid things (or get arrested for DUI or whatnot), but they have no power to really hurt people. Whereas politicians in Washington not only say stupid things, but they can make the government do stupid things.

Sally Field said: "If women ran the world, there wouldn't be any wars."

President Bush said: "We're leading a coalition to disarm Saddam's WMD."

Anericans realize the latter statement has proven to be a far bigger headache. Because Bush tried to put his statement into effect.

Yeah, right, SteveL
There does seem to be a contingent of people (teens and college students especially) who seem to be swayed by helium-headed celebs. They love to repeat their insightful observations particularly on sites like Dem Underground and Move-on.org

As far as the WMD question. Do you really believe Saddam had a come-to-Allah meeting with Chemical Ali and decided to make his WMDs vanish into thin air?

Didn't you hear about the terrorist plan to attack Jordan a couple years ago? Fortunately the WMDs were intercepted at the Syrian border. The WMDs were marked "Made in Iraq."

It seems Saddam "willed" his WMDs to his Baathist brethren in Syria before George came marching in, just as he flew his air force to arch-enemy Iran before the '91 Gulf war. Bush's foolhardiness was to believe the WMDs would still be in Iraq after we arrived.

Celeb Statements
Plenty of young people are swayed by political statements by celebrities. In fact, they don't always know how to distinguish between entertainment celebs and political pundits (much like Allen, who seems to put Ann Coulter, a professional commentator, in the same category with actress Sally Field.) College age kids and 20-somethings get most of their "news" from John Stewart, Steven Colbert and the guys on Saturday Night Live. Politics and entertainment are almost completely blurred for this generation.

..shut up and act...
.."more mentally impressive than a plate of mashed potatoes."... thats an insult to all mashed potatoes....

bezler is a world class moron
Conservatism is based on control. What an IDIOT.

Conservatism is based on restricting the power of government. SO WHO WILL CONTROL YOU?

I suppose he will say next that free markets are based on price fixing.

Sentido
"We presently live under a fascist regime, complete with sham elections. Unfortunately, control of the people is becoming possible."

That has got to be one of the stupidist comments I hear libs make. If this was a fascist regime, you'd be dead already.

Try studying fascist regimes sometime. The opposition ALWAYS gets killed off or imprisoned first. "Night of the Long Knives" ring a bell?

Correction
"Night of the Long Knives" purged the powers that put Hitler into power; the SA or "Brown Shirts". That was AFTER he imprisoned or killed off the opposition.

Mothers in Power Sometimes get PMS
Mothers in Power Sometimes get PMS. This is probably why PM Margaret Thatcher attacked Argentina, PM Indira Ghandi attacked Pakistan, PM Golda Meir attacked Egypt, Jordan, and Syria, and co President Hillary Clinton bombed Belgrade.

Iranian Mothers
I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to get advice and counsel from the flying nun. Don’t you know that she can fly into your house and bop you? Still looks pretty good if you ask me. So from now on only mothers can hold office---sounds fair enough--will Iran agree to go along with this?

Is anyone listening?
Does anyone really care what Sally Field think? Or Oprah Winfrey? Or David Letterman? Hollywood celebrities, sports celebrities and music celebrities who have millions and millions have zero in common with 98% of us average Americans. These people invariably apply their big mouths to Democratic causes -- so, no surprise there. Beyond that -- is there anything else of value to listen to or pay attention to when they open their mouths?

BTW, Sally Field has been embarrassing herself as the award podium for decades now. Again, no surprise.

Skyler
I'm not sure if your comment is a dig at the libs but at any rate:

Argentina attacked the Falklands, a British possession. The Iron Lady didn't start it.
Can't speak for Indira Ghandi but if it was over Kashmir the I'd be that Pakistan started that one.
Golda Meir pre-empted an imminent attack by Nassar and his allies and we saw the victory of the 6-Day War.
You are correct in that the co-president did bomb Belgrade but you forgot to point out that the previous 3 wars were wars of national interest (Falklands/border disputes with Pakistan) or national survival (6 Day War). The bombing of Belgrade was neither.

Celebrities
I never watch these dumb shows anymore. What's the point?? Just a bunch of stupid celebrities patting each other on the back for being soooo talented, unique, and wonderful. Most of them appear brain-dead anyway.

Arby
"Does anyone really care what Sally Field think? Or Oprah Winfrey? Or David Letterman?"

Sadly too many people do and some even think they are well informed because of it. Posts by morons like Sentido provide plenty of proof of that and I'm sure there will be plenty more examples by others. Allen may want to pretend there is nothing to this but all you have to do is go to huffington post or dailykos to see where all those morons get their ideas from.

Real people?
They call them actors for a reason. Most celebrities wouldn't know what to say without a script in front of them.
It's when they wing it when they say the most stupid things.

The real problem
What we really should be concerned about is not the political rantings of celebrities who may or may not know what they are talking about. People *should* have the sense to make the distinction.
However, it becomes scary when you take a look at the portion of society that does not have the ability or sense to make this distinction. It is bad news when fame has superseded all else for some people. Those who take their cues and copy the feelings of celebrities are simply lost.
In a way, it is sort of an unavoidable negative of living in such a free, wealthy, comfortable society. People can go about their lives relatively unaffected from most of the outside world. They are not faced with real societal problems that would otherwise force them to care enough to wake up, instead of just rooting from the sidelines echoing Maher, Field, Rosie, etc. It's much easier and "cooler" that way.

sentido
this moron is also on this thread. He needs to get over his fear and come out from under his blankets. There is no government boogerman. The sentido types and other bottom feeders from kos or moveon can't understand their lives are too insignificant to showup on anyone's radar

Great article but.....
"Not every celebrity is a nitwit. Some are wise enough to hire political tutors."

Brent, who in LaLa land hires a 'political tutor'?!?!?

Misinformation is Dangerous
BC is on the right track. It's one thing when Julia Roberts goes on Leno and says Bush is an idiot. I do think most people get some kick out of the irony of a high-school dropout actress calling the President stupid. Quick aside, the small Georgia town that she "escaped" is a suburb of Atlanta about 20 minutes from downtown. I'm sure it was rough for her.

But when it extends to offering so-called facts that are patently untrue then it begins to get dangerous. Rosie O'Donnell is the perfect example - the U.S. government must have planted bombs in the WTC to bring them down because she's never heard of fire melting steel? How does she think steel is MADE? This may be one of the dumbest statements ever but she says it on television to an audience of which half agree with her politics, and the so-called fact gets legs. There is real damage to blurring entertainment and politics, or news and commentary, because people do not wind up with enough simple facts to make decisions about how to vote, what to support, etc.

No Wars with Female Heads of State?
Ms. Fields’ remarks are a triumph of emotion over reason, and anybody with any historical knowledge knows that wars stem from interests of state and not from the gender of the ruler. This has been true since ancient times, with its war between Antony and Cleopatra against Octavian. The famous admonition of the Spartan mother to her son to come back carrying his shield or on it comes to mind as well.

Having a female head of state in the sixteenth century didn’t protect England for the aggression of Philip II of Spain, and the Russian tsarinas Elizabeth and Katherine also had wars.

In the twentieth century Golda Meier’s Israel and Indira Ghandi’s India both had wars. Assuming that we continue to make progress in Iraq, Hillary will find herself responsible for prosecuting a war if she is elected.

That's simply a case of leftists "preaching to the choir," and some conservatives do the same thing.

When some Hollywood celebrity just happens to utter a statement that is sympatico with what you believe, you are automatically going to jump on that celebrity's statement and quote it to serve your purposes. If tomorrow, Britney Spears told the news media "Yeah, we really gotta stop them jihadists, I guess," every conservative on townhall.com would be quoting her verbatim!

Take a look at all the conservatives who routinely quote Dennis Miller, James Woods, and even the total airhead Elisabeth Hasselbeck to make a point.

Now Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a nice conservative girl but she's still a total airhead. The fact that she says things that you agree with is not a plus for conservatives politically. It's like quoting Forrest Gump in a debate to try to score a debating point.

Who Cares
I don't watch Sean Penn, Jane Fonda, Alec Baldwin, movies or Michael Moore or anyone else I know to be a Communist Supporter. I have been adding to the list a lot lately. I don't watch CNN or MSNBC or read the NY Times or LA Times, etc. I already know their position is bias, so why bother. I seek the truth regarding my News. And I don't support the Dixie Chicks and alot of other Treasonous Traitors, and if enough Americans decided that enough was enough and said and did the same thing, then these so called Celebrities wouldn't be Celebrities anymore, and we wouldn't be listening to their venomous lying spittle, that Parrots Moveon.org or other Commie Fronts.

Dennis Miller asked
On his radio show yesterday, Dennis Miller asked a question that revealed the stupidity, (no matter how well meaning) of Sally Field's comments....

He said: "Golda Meir and Margaret Thatcher have kids!"

Case closed.

We presently live under a fascist regime
"We presently live under a fascist regime, complete with sham elections. Unfortunately, control of the people is becoming possible.

Sentido, you might be right, considering we have politicians such as the ambulance chasing John Edwards planning to force people into a government run and financed health care system. And politicians in Los Angeles telling you what you can and cannot eat. Yeah you're right, control of the people might be becoming very possible, especially if Hillary (or any other Democrat presidential candidate for that matter) wins in 2008.

for Hermione
Hermione writes: "College age kids and 20-somethings get most of their "news" from John Stewart, Steven Colbert and the guys on Saturday Night Live."

But that's hardly a new phenomenon. Humor and satire have been potent political weapons for centuries--remember Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal"? The famous early 20th century humorist, Will Rogers, was a world-famous columnist whose aphorisms were routinely quoted. Even today.

I think a lot of other conservatives (not me) are just jealous that liberals seem able to use humor to persuade the young more effectively than conservatives do.

But it doesn't have to be that way. Julia Gorin is a CONSERVATIVE comedienne and columnist who can be quite funny as she critiques jihadists, liberals, Democrats, etc.--but in a humorous and non-threatening way.

It's also because, as recent polls have shown, today's conservatives just skew older than today's liberals. The average age of a Republican is in his 50s. And the older you get, the harder it is to relate to young people.

Conservatives here on townhall.com have even claimed that what went wrong in the 1960s was that we started "listening" to young people instead of just spanking them so they would shut up. Don't laugh, I've seen many posts like that on townhall.com

With that anti-youth attitude, and with their failure to emulate Julia Gorin's humorous style, it's no wonder that conservatives are unable to appeal to young people.

i am glad to see that there are others who won't support the movies of certain lowlife america haters infesting hollyweird. On my list I include streisand, julia roberts, danny glover and george clooney. A quartet of four talentless haters

The Duh Crowd
We should feel sorry for Sally Field. She works in a profession where writers tell her what to say and a director tells her how to move. Someone else dresses her and another makes her look the way they want.

Then she and others in her profession go to an awards show where they have two people standing up there to show them how to get off the stage because they can't even figure out how to do that by themselves.

My garbage collector has more decisions to make on his job than any actor.

So, should we wonder why any of these Hollywood idiots fall on their face when they have a chance to think for themselves and/or open their mouth?

Howard Kurtz
Howard Kurtz is an employee of both the Washington Post and CNN and he is accusing FOX News of censoring the news? This is hypocrisy at its most blatant.

The reason that FOX has been so successful is because the liberal media (NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, WAPO, NYT etc) have been censoring the news for decades.

hollyweird
when marilyn monroe signed her first big contract she allegedly said " I will no longer be required to give blow jobs to get a movie part". However by all reports it appears that is still the expected route to any movie career, only be prepared to go both ways. So now we are expected to take seriously people with minimal educational achievements and who got started in the business by granting sexual favors as somehow speakers of wisdom on all things concerning the real world

Brigitte Bardot: New right-wing hero
To many hawks on the War on Terror, the former actress Brigitte Bardot has now become something of a cultural hero. Because Brigitte Bardot has been very critical of what she called an "invasion" of Muslim immigrants into Europe and her denunciation of illegal alien immigrants whom she said were transforming the West into "real human pigsties." Conservatives love that stuff.

But in the 1960s, when she was a working actress and famous "sex kitten," Brigitte Bardot was NEVER a favorite of America's conservatives when she constantly pushed the envelope of nudity and sex scenes. (I can't even post links to screencaps from her movies because I don't want to be accused of spreading porn on townhall.com.)

Like I said, whether you claim a Hollywood celebrity is "serious-minded and gets it" or is "a pathetic dimbulb" seems to depend ENTIRELY on whether you agree with that celebrity's political stance. Brigitte Bardot changed hers with the times. And so did her fans.

Something we can count on...
SteveL provides us yet another example of a phenomenon that we can all count on:

Whenever a leftist of any stripe tells us conservatives what we would do if the shoe were on the other foot, they're always, ALWAYS wrong. Often 180 degrees off the mark, but always wrong.

This was SteveL's take: "If tomorrow, Britney Spears told the news media "Yeah, we really gotta stop them jihadists, I guess," every conservative on townhall.com would be quoting her verbatim!"

One or two might, but not anybody we regard all that highly. Britney Spears is a kid. Her opinion counts for nothing. You might hear one or two people hoping for a trend among young people (which would be an APPROPRIATE use of a quote like that, if it were true). But the truth is, most conservatives are just not all that impressed with celebrity.

The point to take away, SteveL is, "No, we're NOT like you."

allen

allen writes:

This is classic liberal (i.e., childish) reasoning:
"B-but YOUR SIDE do it, too!"

Bozell was writing about celebrities specifically. Since
the ovewhleming majority of celebrities are liberal, it's
rather silly to point out that there are people on both
sides of the *aisle* who say stupid and ignorant things.
That's immaterial.

Even if that's true, what's it go to do with the celebrities
in question? How do you figure it gets leftist celebrities
who say stupid, ignorant things off the hook?

> Frankly, most people don't care.

Lots of people obviously do care, or these nitwits wouldn't
bother spouting off like they do.

Steve: DUI can hurt people

DUI hurts, and even kills people.

Poor Barry
Even Barry Manilow has gotten into the act. The poor dear won't go on "The View" because he can't stand the one and only semi conservative voice on the show.

The Dumbing Down of America
"They like me, they really like me."

Shouldn't that have disqaulified her for most everything?

Women rule
If women ruled the world it would look alot like Washington DC where fathers are not fathers but rather sperm donors for single moms who have succeeded in raising generations of violet felons. The left somehow thinks that boys raised by mothers alone is a really good thing. Paradise is just around the corner if we can just get rid of males and have those peace loving females raise the children by themselves.

If You Look Closely
Sally Fields closes her eyes during her stammering. This usually is the act of someone trying to remember a part of something they MEMORIZED. I think the AIRHEAD totally drew a blank and spewed the first thought that came into her head (a rare occurrence for a liberal).

Interesting Subject Matter
I agree with your position completely. Just because they can read a script and mime, gives them no grasp of the real world as it exist. Alice in wonderland is their reality. Unfortunately they actually influence many people with their comments. Town Hall certainly has it's fair share of liberals espousing their views, wish they would just go away!

No Gratitude
I've read the comments from this article and have but one thing to say. These individuals live in a nation that protects their freedom of expression and they have all done so well. So why then are they SO UNGRATEFUL to their nation? After all, their still running around putting their feet in their mouths, not stuck in Gitmo with Al Qaida.
--Also as for the whole 'listening to youth' being stupid, I think the people Mr. Bozell quotes never grew up themselves.
--Award shows actually provide a lesson on the free markets and the entertainment industry. Not everyone agrees on what's of high quality and still popular. And method of rewarding merit that is as internal as most entertainment awards are cannot make that decision quite as well as the markets general.

pete
can this be true. That the view wouldn't welcome with open arms the questionable sexality of manilow. I thought many gays felt comfortable in the company of women. But I gues barry girlilow can stand the presence of strong women only girly men

Bravo Patricia Heaton
I also just read what Patricia Heaton in response to Ms. Field. If mothers ran the world, I would prefer it to be more like the former.

It's too easy
Pointing out how stupid and ill-informed many celebreties statements are is like shootin' fish in a barrell.

Hillary delenda est.

The ONLY Thing That I Hate is
a Hollywood liberal. Really, it's hard to hate anyone truly, but when it comes to Hollywood liberals, man they make me crazy. Why do people who make their money off of playing FICTIONAL ROLES think we give a dam about what they think about their political points of view??? Now I do understand that they live in their own fictional worlds even off set, but why do we have to see this crap during award cermonies for well played fiction? We can just go to the zoo or turn on Court TV if we want to see abborant behavior.

Liberals
Liberal stupidity borders on mental illness.

I want to thank the author...
Many thanks to boozell, townhall, and the kooky neocon "media" in general for always making such a fuss about celebrity opinion that it reaches a far-wider audience than it would have otherwise.

Soothsayer...

Huh. I had read the article and gone through every comment, and you know the one question that did NOT enter my mind?

"I wonder what "Soothsayer" thinks of this?"

And even after 1:27 PM, my mind hasn't changed.

Cheers!

LOL, Pete and Wildwest
Barry Maniloff?

Don't you mean Barely Manenough?

It's funny
I used to watch award shows growing up. But since 9/11 I've maybe watched 1 or 2 because it's just a showcase for actor/actresses to spout their political views. I've always noticed that when an actor or actress steps onto the stage they thank anyone and everyone for their award. But I don't recall not one of them ever saying (not that I really care) "I'd like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ".
Why is that?

SteveL
Steve I am not sure I understand the Bridgit Bardot rant. Is your point that conservatives actually agreed with the conservative position expressed by an actress? Or do you claim that conservatives somehow worship actors who express conservative opinions? Because while the former is true, the latter is not.

Dovenator
Liberal stupidity is a mental illness.

Yes, there would be no war if soccer moms ran the world. There would also be no war if American men ran the world.

Unfortunately Sally, there are maniacal dictators who run part of the world who would just as soon rape you and your kids right before cutting off their heads while you watched. Therefore, men and some women, have to fight wars so that you can rant on national TV while wearing your designer gown so that you can go home to your kids and tuck them safely into their beds.

It's ironic that Hollywood is the source of much of the Muslim world's hatred of America due to movies' and television's depiction of our society. I'm glad that we are all judged on the public actions of these crotch-flashing drunk drivers.

Gee, bama, is it such a surprise to you that the head of the Media Research Center would write a column about the (gasp!) MEDIA???

The only thing more embarressing
than Sally Field's word jumble is the fact that right wingers whine and whine and whine about it.

For God sakes, get a life people.

Nothing she said is any worse than the spoutings of your beloved "pundits" - (again, note Ann Coulter) - or, if you would prefer, your beloved right wing celebrities.

Ted Nugent's onstage tyrade about two of our countries Presidential candidates was far more embarressing than anything Sally Field spouted about Mothers and war.

Talk about simpletons. You people are utterly obsessed with Hollywood.

Normal folks simply don't care - we are more interested in watching our celbrities screw and kill each other on-screen and realize that most of them are wacky and insanely wealthy (like most politicians)

For embarrassing soundbites and mumbo jumbo, American's need only tune into speeches from our current President or any show on Fox news...

Shells
Wow, I see my post really left a mark.

You gonna be okay?

Allen
I'm fine, thanks for asking. Apparently, you're not.

It doesn't leave any scars on me--your hypocrisy. I just find it rather amusing you don't see the mirror before your face.

shells
No, you're not fine.

If you were, then you wouldn't have responded to my original post so hysterically - reducing yourself to petty name-calling because I seemingly hurt your feelings with my observations.

Brent Bozwell has written endless, whining columns complaining about how much he doesn't "care" about what Hollywood has to say. It is a constant source of material for him. He is addicted to not "caring".

I wrote one post on the subject.

This being a messageboard, it is perfectly reasonable for me to come here and give an opposing viewpoint.

And I obviously succeeded in making my point - hence your vitriol.

Thanks.

Oh I see Allen
You're not being a hypocrite, you're just a leftist troll.

Thanks for making the distinction. Continue throwng your wet paper napkins at the PC, I'm sure Brent is watching....sigh

when celebs make the news many of us on the right almost become like yogi, deja vu all over again. No matter how much nonsense comes from hollyweird when it makes the news we shake our heads while muttering how could it continue to get worse. On another thread we learned today that cate blanchett is drinking her refined wastes. So no matter how we all like to associate with those we consider normal, hollyweird still makes the news and it's is not a pretty sight

Bill Marr 3rd string "celebrity" pundint
The latest insult to General Petraeus came from that insignificant weasel named Bill Marr.

Of course, he is trying to get publicity, since no one watches his boring lousy show.

I suggest we all vote with our feet and give this guy the brush. Maybe he will be ringing doorbells for the Fuller company soon.

My point is this:

Conservatives like Brent Bozell claim they are upset by Hollywood celebrities making public pronouncements on political issues they know nothing about. But in fact conservatives are only unhappy when it's Hollywood LIBERAL celebrities making dumb pronouncements.

When an occasional CONSERVATIVE Hollywood celebrity comes along, such as Elisabeth Hasselbeck, those exact same conservatives have no problem rushing to her defense and even quoting her on various topics.
Conservatives have no trouble siding with a total airhead like Hasselbeck when it helps their cause. Just like the liberals have done with Susan Sarandon.

Conservatives are just frustrated by the pervasive left-wing politics and culture of much of Hollywood, that's all.

To which I say: Be patient and wait ten more years. Eventually the baby-boomer generation that came of age during the Vietnam War protests will retire.

inkling_revival writes: "But the truth is, most conservatives are just not all that impressed with celebrity."

Really?

Let's see: John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Jimmy Stewart, Elia Kazan, Toby Keith, were all conservative heroes. I've seen a number of posts here on townhall.com that are wistful for the days when "Americans were like John Wayne."

Today's conservatives are just not that impressed with TODAY's celebrities, because they regard most of them as "the enemy"--liberal antiwar baby-boomers.

But I wasn't born yesterday and I have memories of a different Hollywood--and a different attitude toward them from Red State America.

bfred writes: "It's ironic that Hollywood is the source of much of the Muslim world's hatred of America due to movies' and television's depiction of our society."

No, I don't think Hollywood is the source of Islamic hatred of America. It goes back much further than that.

This is what the Muslim ambassador from Tripoli had told Thomas Jefferson way back in 1785:

"It was written in the Koran, that all Nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon whoever they could find and to make Slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Mussulman [Muslim] who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise."

Sound familiar?

Yes, that was Muslims talking to 18th century America before our present Constitution was even ratified yet.

They didn't have Hollywood movies and TV in 1785.
But they sure had jihadists.

Boycott them!
I have been boycotting left-wing, anti-American, Hollywood morons for years from Jane Fonda and Streisand to Alec Baldwin, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon to the current Hollywood garbage: Sean Penn, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Rosie O'Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg and the rest of their miserable ilk.
How anyone who is proud to be an American could pay money on this garbage or watch left-wing propaganda on TV like "Boston Public," "The West Wing"or"Law and Order" is beyond me.
Boycott this scum: You'll feel a lot better for it.

Maybe his itch will be scratched when they quit!

Creighton Beryll
Creighton,

I am glad to see you are looking out for Sentido with the advice on which way to wear his tinfoil hat. Someone needs to help Sentido with advice before he goes out in public. Sentido should be grateful for your advice but somehow I doubt that he will be. Cheers, Dude.

Phantom Celebrity Political Tutors
yankette wrote: "Brent, who in LaLa land hires a 'political tutor'?!?!?"

Well, Bozell? Do you ever respond to questions in this forum? Michael Medved does in his (occasionally). Or, is this the only thing you have in common with Medved: the unflinching willingness to put up a straw man in order to make your point.

Name one -- just one -- actor or actress who has hired a political tutor; you know, like the ONE actor you've heard of who did it, which of course led you to writing a statement that makes it sound like it's an emergent trend. Pathetic.

What makes it worse is that the main thrust of your article is correct. Some celebrities use their time in the spotlight to voice political opinions. This is their right but, unfortunately, too many people (and this is based on comments in blogs -- no straw men from me here) take what these celebs say as gospel . . . part of the 'celebs are prettier, better, smarter' school of non-thinking. And of course Howard Kurtz is an idiot if he said that by censoring Sally Field's expletive FOX was censoring the news. And you're right again about most of these celeb bloggers being socialist-leaning whack jobs; Belzer even LIVES in France!

Unfortunately, the fact that you are so right about this makes it doubly pathetic that you chose to end your article by making a statement that you apparently can't back up. I'd believe you if you had cited two or three celebs who have actually hired political tutors; but, you cited none (sorry: technically you cited "some", whoever "some" are). I wouldn't have written this comment if I could have independently confirmed your assertion, but I couldn't. A Google search for "celebrity political tutors" returns exactly 2 results: one for an article on French President Sarkozy, and one for this article.

Back up your claim with at least ONE fact, Bozell.

THE FLYING NUN HITS THE GROUND:
SYBIL TAKES OVER

BY LISA RICHARDS
September 21, 2007

I never watch awards shows. They’re nothing more than fashion show spectacles for the beautiful people to be seen and fawned over as they pretend to be oh so humbled for receiving an award for acting. I would rather watch Keith Olbermann, and that’s saying something since his show is how I punish my dog if the dog does naughty-naughty—I make the dog listen to Keith for an hour versus O’Reilly whom my dog loves.

Of late, awards shows have turned into United Nations free-for-alls for the 60’s generation has-beens who missed out on protest marches because mommy made them act on TV. Now the pampered snots who never got to be Jane Fonda have decided the Emmys and Oscars are a fabulous place to play Jane on a tank. And Sally Field has become the next walking foot-in-mouth-disease to accept an award with an anti-war statement that sounded like one of Sybil’s personalities on crack.

According to Field, if all the mothers on earth were in control of the world there would never be war. So claimed the off-balance actress to an audience of wanna’ be foreign policy strategists who think RPG stands for Really Pricey Gucci. I think Sybil’s liberal side needs an RPG in the rear...
