Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's make-believe secretary of state routine in Syria has been painted by the press as a sign of emboldened Democrats taking on Team Bush's neocon bumblers. Chris Matthews echoed his colleagues' sentiments when he joyously declared Pelosi would "open the doors to peace."

It was, of course, an outrage, a direct slap at the president, an effort to humiliate him on the international stage. President Bush, Vice President Cheney and White House spokesman Dan Bartlett were quoted decrying Pelosi's diplomatic freelancing. Conservative talk radio was livid. But where, oh where, were the congressional Republicans?

More to the point, where is the GOP leadership? I haven't seen the polling data, but it would surprise me if one in 10 Americans could even name them, so absent are they from the scene. John Boehner and Roy Blunt lead the House; Mitch McConnell and Trent Lott lead the Senate. Other than an occasional spot on the Sunday talk shows, they might as well adorn milk cartons with most Americans.

Did the Republican leaders protest Pelosi's freelancing? There was no sign of it on ABC, CBS or NBC, or even in The Washington Post or The New York Times. OK, but perhaps that's because the networks are ignoring their blizzard of press releases, once more proving the bias of the press?

But in this case, no. A search for criticism of Pelosi's jaunt on the Websites of Boehner and Blunt turned up nothing. Ditto with the sites of McConnell and Lott. Even the conservative House Republican Study Committee's site carried nothing. The Republican National Committee had nothing on its Website other than a reprint of a Wall Street Journal editorial against Pelosi, under their feature "In Case You Missed It." It would be easy to miss it when there was close to zero GOP opposition to the Pelosi fracas on these sites. They were leaving the work to Team Bush and talk radio.

Brian Kennedy, John Boehner's press secretary, suggested that it's still early in the electoral cycle. "When he handed the gavel to Speaker Pelosi in January, Mr. Boehner stated his belief that Republicans could disagree without being disagreeable. And I don't think he felt the need to make repeated public remarks to state the obvious here, which is that Pelosi's trip was embarrassing and potentially dangerous." In other words, he passed the buck.

Boehner finally managed to denounce Pelosi's diplomacy back in Ohio in a meeting with reporters and editors of the Columbus Dispatch, only to have it backfire due to more GOP incompetence. That paper played up that Republican Rep. Dave Hobson, a good friend of Boehner's from a neighboring district, accompanied Pelosi on her trip and came out defending Pelosi -- to an absolutely embarrassing degree. Hobson not only criticized Team Bush and Mitt Romney for daring to protest Pelosi, he even praised Syrian dictator Bashar Assad as a "very educated person" who wanted stability in Iraq.

By Saturday, Boehner appeared in The New York Times -- when the Times could finish an article that read like a Democratic position paper, aimed to make him look like an enormous hypocrite. Reporters Helene Cooper and Carl Hulse tut-tutted Boehner's comment to the Dispatch that Pelosi was going to Syria ''for one reason, and that is to embarrass the president.'' But they noted, around this time in 1997, Boehner accompanied Speaker Gingrich to China -- and later called the trip ''very educational.''

It's very likely that the Times lifted this directly from leftist bloggers like Greg Sargent, who were rifling through Nexis to find exactly these comparisons to defend Pelosi's bumbling Syrian tour. But as even Sargent admitted, the parallels aren't precise.

The Clinton-Gore team offered no criticism of the Gingrich trip, but merely stated he spoke for himself. Gingrich did raise eyebrows for making bold declarations about how America under the Clinton administration would respond militarily if China attacked Taiwan, but no one viewed this as political subterfuge. And America was not at war.

Cooper and Hulse also failed to mention the New York Times editorial from that time, which slapped Gingrich for making bold declarations on behalf of the American executive branch, but also praised Gingrich for being "refreshingly candid compared with the oblique criticism favored these days by the Clinton administration. ... Mr. Gingrich's comments on the Chinese political scene were in some ways more honest than Mr. Gore's anemic formulations."

Pelosi's Syria trip did pile up some negatives, not only from talk radio hosts, but even from a strongly critical unsigned editorial by The Washington Post. Even NBC's Matt Lauer eventually found "a lot of people thought she messed up." But the allegedly fearsome "Republican attack machine" on Capitol Hill? At best, it ran on a very low volume throughout Madame Speaker's daffy diplomatic adventure. At worst, it was pathetic.

Here's another
column that I'm not going to read. Not worth my time.

I already know that Pelosi as speaker is likely one of the worst things to happen to this nation.

The Dimmicrats have given AMerica the finger by putting her where she is. She is likely the least qualified, least talented and least intelligent person in the chamber. She's an empty suit, pretty much. Or cloak, whatever that red thing she was wearing qualifies as.

Pelosi on a DIPlomacy trip? Not in my name.

"Dangerous" Dave
I'm with you. I'm sick of reading about this egotistical, power mad Liberal lunatic! The more she talks the more she shows America what a nut case she is!

Queen Nancy had
made a fool out of herself and after the initial round of reporting the MSM had dropped the story so she would not look too bad for a long time. However, a fool and her mouth are not to be denied. Queen Nancy held a press conference yesterday to bring it back up again.

The Republican leadership was absent because there was one RINO with Nancy and 3 others that went before her. The Republican leadership couldn't attack nancy without attacking them too. Alas, the Republican leadership has supported the RINOs in all ways over the past 4 years and look where it got them in 06. Wake up Repubs are you will go down in 08.

Pelosi
If Pelosi wants to be President, she should run for the office and learn what the American people want, instead of making pronouncements based on conversations with other millionaires. Bill D.

Pelosi - gate!
Hey, you hear the latest folks, Nancy wants to start the Pelosi Tour of the middle-east...next stop IRAN.

Is there anything more repulsive than this action by someone so incapable of representing America and it's issues with the middle-eastern tyrany. She needs to "dressed-down" by everyone in congress and the senate...but of course you won't get that from HER SIDE in the liberal left who must think she's the next coming of Golda Mier.

There's the Logan act, which many believe she violated - and she's created her own Pelosi-gate.
Someone with SOME GUTS needs to bring her to task for meddling in our policy making. Ms. Rice is designated person for policy - not this arrogant and pompose San Fransico liberal.

I mean what is she going to say next, that "middle-east peace process runs through Iran". What a slap in the face to all our G.I.'s and also to Britian that just lost a round of crap to the Iranian terrorist network.

Then there's Chirs Matthrews...has anyone gained any respect for him as a "jounalist" lately - no it's the opposite, he's brought himself down several pegs. His bias is so clear and obvious. He's another example of the left leaning media that is helping to brainwash the way American politics is run in our country. They report what's good for "there needs", while staying silent on issues and events that could actually help America with the war on terror and other imporant stuff for our everyday lives.

Nancy and her top leadership have proven once and for all that promises during campaigning don't necessarily mean that will be developed or delivered. The first 100 days is looking more like a "FAILED TIMETABLE". They want our military and the President to live up to some contrived timetable for defeat...WHERE'S THEIR TIMETABLE AND WHO'S HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE?

Polsi
The replicans and all americans better wake up to see what this power hungry woman is.

Where is the Republican Leadership?
I think they are exactly where they need to be. Letting the democrats self-destruct in front of the american public. Why get into a resource consuming power argument re-enforcing the fanaticsim of the liberal democratic party? The liberal media is only aligning themselves and exposing who and what they are to the american public more and more everyday. Republicans, just set back and let the fanatic liberal democratic party destroy themselves.

During the election of Nov. 06 all we heard was the liberal media resonating the democratic liberal soundbite, "We have a Plan". It appears "The Plan" we were all spoon fed is working quite well. The liberal news media failed to report what the plan was, just that the democrats had a plan. It would have been helpful to the american public to have be told what the democratic leadership was going to do when they were elected to activate and impliment "their plan". In the old days of journalism the "Story" used to have helpful and factual information that a voting reader could use to help educate himself as to how to vote. Today the story is who creates one and pays to have it printed, quoted and promoted with the most advertising dollars. The democratic party raised a large amount of capital for advertising articles by using monies contributed from abortion clinics. At $5000 per late term murder for hire (Abortion), the abortionist have a lot of money to give and the pro-choice party has the blood of innocents on its hands.

Republicans, remember the next time you read a republican candidate bashing article in your local liberal newspaper that what you are reading is only placed there to create voter apathy. It is placed there to convince you to stay home and not vote. It is placed there to convince you that you have already lost the election. But most of all, remember that the democrat candidates collected "Blood Money" from the slaughter of "Innocents". I have yet to hear about one abortion case where the fault was the unborn childs.

Republicans under Clinton
Read about the Republican congressional leadership under Clinton. The foreign leaders Gingrich visited. The things they said about Clinton abroad. Pelosi has nothing on them.

I hate that Bush represents country
probably more so than any of you do of pelosi. bush has been consistently wrong and is still ignorant to the obvious. As far as the lack of press coverage I haven't read exactly what she said? I know that Isreal released a statement that she mis-represented their view but it was closer to being right than wrong. So on to US foreign policy. What did she say that undermnined Bush's foreign plicy? His way of isolation had managed to isolate us against the rest of the world so she could have in no way made anything worse than bush has up to this point. He asked her not to go and she did. It's a free country and she can do what she wants. She does represent the United States Congress.. the house of the people.

GOP Leadership is quiet for a reason!
Pelosi's trip was BLESSED by the White House!! Nancy and the Dem and GOP Congressional delegation that went to Syria met with W the day before!

Even slimy GOP Senators are not going to call out someone for going with White House approval!

At least Nancy voiced the Administrations position! When Newt went the Middle East he publically declared he had a different message than Bill...When Hastert went to South America he also publically disputed the Clinton White Houses' policy...

Nancy P. represents San Francisco not US
Nancy "P" does not represent the United States Congress in foreign affairs. She does represent the liberal lifestyles of those Democrats in the San Francisco district. She can not do what she wants in regards to the constitutional authority giving to the elected President.

Democrat Avenger writes: Wednesday, April, 11, 2007 8:22 AM

RedStatePlentyofKoolaid
Pelosi's trip was unauthorized.

Whe violated the Logan Act.

She is a criminal.

She is a democrat.

Wait, I'm being redundant....

Sorry.
Should have been "She violated the Logan Act."

Speaker Pelosi
In the final analysis, represents no one but herself. She wants to do a replay of the "success" of the likes of Ramsay Clark, Jane Fonda, etc., in "getting us out of Vietnam". Because she honestly believes that we are evil, the enemy is good, and that it's all our fault for;

1. Not losing the Cold War

2. Not letting Israel die

3. Not letting Western Civilization in general die

4. Not signing on to a "post-modern" social order based more on Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia (1975-85) than on any element of the Western Enlightenment.

I don't blame her for this, as all of the above are the coin of the realm where she is from- the formerly great city of San Francisco, now degenerated into a place where the old Tenderloin of the 1880s would look like Periclean Athens by comparison. This is where she's coming from, her constituents seem to be OK with it, and I really can't argue with that.

What I can argue with is that my representative, David Hobson, has supported her and opposed Representative Boehner's criticism. Boehner has obviously read the Logan Act. Hobson, like Ms. Pelosi, just as obviously has not, or else somehow has concluded that it doesn't apply to Ms. Pelosi, or himself. Either way, "good guess, but totally wrong", as the saying goes.

I can't do anything about Ms. Pelosi. I can do something about Mr. Hobson, however. Next year, I will refuse to let him put a campaign sign in my yard, I will vote for whoever runs against him in the primary, and I will not vote for him in the general election. Rather, I will vote "None Of The Above", as I will not throw my vote away on a Democrat who, like our sock-puppet governor Mr. Strickland, "runs right and governs left".

If enough of us do this, there may still always be...individuals....like Ms. Pelosi in public office. But they won't be the Speaker Of The House.

cheers

eon

How can you be surprised?
No one ever accused John Boehner, Mel Blunt, Mitch McConnell, or Trent Lott as being anyting other than political hacks.

Peloser!!!
Everytime she opens her mouth its just Flatulent that we hear, nothing more or less.Thank God we don't have to smell her Libstain Halucinations. All we ever hear from the Liberal Demoflatucrats is hot air,you know it sounds good and feels good but dissipates quickly but thats their policy, that its a given we can do or say what we want no matter the consequence of there oral Flatulents, but hey we have RosiePelosi,Clinton,Reid to listen to and that felt good but stand back the room is filling!!

still waiting for answer
What did she say that undermined the President? I would assume that all of you who are criticizing her knows what she said. Fill me in..

Constitutional issues
Andy McCarthy, who is steeped in knowledge about national security issues and Constitutional law, has this to say about Nancy Pelosi:

"Let’s be clear from the start: There isn’t much question that Speaker Pelosi has committed a felony violation of the Logan Act. This two-century-old law, codified at Section 953 of the federal penal code, bars Americans who are “without authority of the United States” from conducting relations “with any foreign government … in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States[.]”

"It is settled beyond peradventure that the authority of the United States over the conduct of foreign relations rests exclusively with the executive branch..."

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MTJlODU3MDc3ZjEzZjEzYzVkNGRmNzhiYmZiNjkwNTI=

That said (and he does make a case about the illegality of Pelosi's rogue diplomatic adventure), McCarthy argues against pursuing this breach as a law-enforcement issue in his commentary.

The powers of the Constitution are clearly defined. Nancy Pelosi violated this separation of powers just as did Steny Hoyer is meeting with the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Democrats are masters of the media, able to summon the resonating sound bite to justify their misdeeds and deflect criticism. The mainstream media enable the Dems to get away with their quick mudslinging (hoping something will stick) or outrageous usurpations of power.

There is no follow up to their headline grabbing with hard-hitting questions or investigative research. Thus, the Dems control the narrative, whether in headlines or in how much column inches are devoted to a story.

Unfortunately, too many times the Republicans do not follow through with these prime opportunities to challenge the Dems' behavior or statements. Are the Republican leaders caught off guard, unable to fathom such outrageous behavior in order to rebut it or preclude it?

The Republicans absolutely must begin to do more oppositional research and have ready responses of fact with a precise sound bite that will get their message out.

how did she undermine Bush
I'm still waiting to hear from all you Pelosi bashers...

"This two-century-old law, codified at Section 953 of the federal penal code, bars Americans who are “without authority of the United States” from conducting relations “with any foreign government … in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States[.]”

"It is settled beyond peradventure that the authority of the United States over the conduct of foreign relations rests exclusively with the executive branch..."

She just visited the country for which every American citizen can? So again how did she undermine the President?

To Democrat Avenger
Official US policy is to NOT engage in talks with Syria until they clean up their act. She and also any other RINOs who went over there are undermining that policy and rewarding Syria's bad acts.

Don't confuse the issue
For those who insist on framing the issue as "undermining the President" (like DA above), the arguement for them is steeped in Bush-bashing. This is not an issue about our current president, much as the Dems would like it to be.

Nancy Pelosi took upon herself the Constitutional prerogatives of the Executive branch, clearly defying our national foreign- and security-policy decisions set by the Chief Executive.

Nancy Pelosi has neither the expertise nor diplomacy credentials to speak her personal point of view (nor her party's) as if her efforts represent national policy shifts.

Not even the Syrians are happy with the setback Pelosi's entourage created. Dissident Syrian groups against Assad's despotic regime have voiced their unhappiness with her misguided adventure and careless posturing as a "peacemaker".

Cliff May observes:
"Farid Ghadry, head of the Reform Party of Syria (a liberal democratic political party in exile) is writing that Nancy Pelosi's visit with the dictator Assad has damaged the dissident movement in Syria. But the elite media appear to be uninterested in that aspect of the story.

"Nor are they intrigued by Farid's charge that Assad "has built four different bases in Syria that we know of to train terrorists to send them to Iraq."

The link to the Syrian Ghadry's criticism of Pelosi is found here: http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MDczMGQxM2U2NjI4NmU2YmYxY2U2Yjc2MTc3ODdhYzE=

The "road to peace in Iraq" through happy talk with Assad is as shallow as is Nancy Pelosi and her fellow-travelers.

rebublicans can't stand up
Rebublican politicians can't stand up because it is impossible to stand up without a backbone. If they tried they would fall to the floor like a jelly fish. You have to hand it to kennedy the swimmer, murtha the abscamer and their ilk, they are like attack dogs going after poodles.

Don
In all seriousness how did she make her self look like a fool? The reason I ask is because it is becoming more apparent that the outrage has more to do with her rather than what she actually did. I have heard she undermined the President. Well how? You and others have said she looked like a fool. In what sense? Physically?

Hey, D.A.:
She undermined the authority of the United States by meeting with foreign heads of state for diplomatic purposes, which is the EXCLUSIVE purview of the Executive Branch, in defiance of the request made by the White House. That was the purpose of the meeting the day before refernced by redstateblahblahblah. Her message was diametrically opposed to the Administration's (despite her post-event revision of it).

In addition, her "message" to Syria from Israel showed either insufficient intelligence to engage in diplomacy, or outright dishonesty aimed at making a name for herself by influencung events she has little or no grasp of. More likely, both.

She's gone off the deep end
and is now talking about going to Iran.

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/04/10/BAGV9P6C0S6.DTL

Revoke her passport and prosecute her.

Not qualified to speak?
Bush is the LAST person who is qualified to speak on the world stage. He may be President but that doesn't make him qualified. The guy is an idiot. So criticism geared towards her should be compared to what we have currently in the WH.

"Just visit"?
Sorry, sport. Pelosi met with the head of a rogue regime and engaged in discussions. She wasn't on a holiday vacation tour.

I'm with the other commenters here who have observed that the MSM dropped this story down the memory hole because they recognize the illegality of Pelosi's "excellent adventure".

Pelosi and all of the other sorry asses (and Rinos) would have better served their nation by cutting short their holiday travels and hammering out a clean, pork-free supplemental defense appropriations bill without timetables and withdrawal dates. If they support the troops, they had better fund Gen. Petraeus's objectives of securing hot spots in Iraq and allowing the Iraqis to stand up in their efforts of self-determination.

Dhimmi Avenger:
She undermined the PM of Israel more than anyone. She's a couple fries short of a happy meal by any stretch of the imagination, and has no more business than Madam Albright going over there.

Indeed, Albright used to be the standard for how stupidity in foreign affairs was measured. I think we may have a new benchmark.

BUSH SOLD US OUT!
Bush has lost me when Pelosi is tougher than him on immigration and border security. How can anyone take him serious on the war when he has done nothing to secure our PORTS AND BORDERS!
PELOSI BLOCKS BUSH ON IMMIGRATION BILL

WASHINGTONPOST-President Bush will relaunch his push for an overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws today in Arizona, with a fresh speech on the border and a new congressional leadership that is friendlier to his views, but with the same dynamics that scuttled his last attempt: a cooperative Senate but bipartisan opposition in the House.

In contrast to her approach to other controversial issues, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has told the White House that she cannot pass a bill with Democratic votes alone, nor will she seek to enforce party discipline on the issue. Bush will have to produce at least 70 Republican votes before she considers a vote on comprehensive immigration legislation, a task that may be very difficult for a president saddled with low approval ratings.

Democratic conservatives, particularly freshmen who seized their seats from Republicans, weathered a barrage of attacks on the issue before their victories in November and are not anxious to relive the experience, aides and lawmakers say. Some of those lawmakers, such as Reps. Nancy Boyda (Kan.), Brad Ellsworth (Ind.), Nick Lampson (Tex.) and Heath Shuler (N.C.), are implacably opposed to a bill that would grant any of the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal immigrants legal residence or citizenship, at least until new border controls are implemented and working.

Republicans leaders smarter
They know if they criticized Pelosi it would blow up in their face i.e. Boehner. Bush and his lackeys on the other hand have nothing to lose since they are out the door in Jan '09.

Let's not forget
that while she is pretending to be a US ambassador she is completely neglecting her role as speaker of the house, the job that she was elected for.

The Runaway Speaker
Nancy P the Lousy, when ever will you come home?

Her petulant meanderings reminds me of Jennifer Wilbanks, "the Runaway Bride," who took off from her REAL responsibilities, and then started telling lies to the authorities.

Look into both their eyes and you see the whole story!:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennifer_Wilbanks
http://www.mtc.ca.gov/news/transactions/ta1106/pelosi.htm

Both women have that perpetually excited expression that makes me think it is dangerous for them to go off their meds!!!

Don't divert the topic
Pelosi's stance on immigration is just another example of her political calculation honed in down-and-dirty ward politics. Her Dem majority was secured through the election of conservative representative in her own party. She cannot control them and recognizes that reality. Thus, she sets the bar to divert attention to the opposition party, which also does not embrace amnesty-styled reform.

The Republican majority in the last congressional session shot down amnesty under any guise and are likely to do so in this session as a minority membership.

The topic BTW is Pelosi's usurpation of Executive powers as defined by the Constitution and by law in the Logan Act.

Lynne
Does this just include her or any American citizen? If you and I went as a couple on our honeymoon would we be violating the Logan Act?

The possibly criminal
usurpation of the US Dept. of State functions by Nancy Pelosi is aided and abetted by the Republican leadership's abdication of their responsibility of "loyal opposition".

Shut up when you have nothing to say
That's why the republican leadership is silent. They know Bush has failed miserably in Iraq and the middle east is a worse and more dangerous place for us and the world than it was when he first took office.

Smart republicans know that Pelosi had every right to make her trip. Whining about it only prolongs the agony they feel as the watch Bush flounder and flail away in the middle east and only make things work.

The silver lining in the Bush cloud is that the democrats could can run either a blue or yellow dog in 2008 and win the white house back. Bush has set back the American conservative movement for at least a generation. Historians will praise him for that, as well as declare him the worst president in a century or more on war time leadership and diplomacy.

Go talk to people under the age of 30. You will see I am right. The majority may claim they are "independent" but they are democrats. If you had the same conversations during Reagan's era, you would have found the majority were republicans.

TRUST BROKEN BOTTOM LINE
onlineanalyst

WHY DO YOU TRUST PRESIDENT BUSH BOTTOM LINE!AND IF YOU DO NOT TRUST HIM WHY WOULD YOU BELIEVE ANYTHING HE SAYS? DO YOU THINK THE PELOSI ISSUE IS BIGGER THAN HOMELAND SECURITY?

Pelosi
They just start impeachment proceedings and get rid of her - she and her kind are a detriment to this country. It is time the Republicans went after her like the dems went after Scooter Libby for a non-crime. She has committed a crime against this country and should be tried for it. Simple as that.

SLACKER
GREAT POST! That is what many of us are thinking!!!

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States,

Since no one knows what she said you can't prove she meets the requirment to be charged. 'With the attempt to influence' is the key phrase here and from the looks of it she didn't attempt to inlfuence anything. Now before any of you come back and say she did try and influence the relationship please provide the quotes attributed to her to back it up your claims.

Red Nanny's NEXT Big Adventure?
Where O where is Red Nanny fly of to next? On the TAXPAYERS DIME of course.

Iran.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Tom Lantos, D-San Mateo, just back from a trip to Syria that sparked sharp criticism from Republicans and the Bush administration, suggested Tuesday that they may be interested in taking another diplomatic trip - to open a dialogue with Iran.

"Speaking just for myself, I would be ready to get on a plane tomorrow morning, because however objectionable, unfair and inaccurate many of (Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's) statements are, it is important that we have a dialogue with him,'' Lantos said. "Speaking for myself, I'm ready to go -- and knowing the speaker, I think that she might be.''

Hmm. Tom, I wonder if Neville had the same thoughts? Liberals, proving over and over that they're stupid spoiled children w/o a clue.

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/04/10/BAGV9P6C0S6.DTL

I swear to God.
This is truly the worst sold administration in recent history. Instead of fighting all the nonsense out there they have just clammed up. I wouldn't call Libia giving up it's arms, or toppling the Taliban, or Syria leaving Lebanon (if in at least an official capacity) a failure. but then they don;t exactly remind folks of this. of course the Libs have their fingers in their ears (which is physically astounding due to where they stick their thumbs) and will just marginalyse anything & everything.

Lynne
Great post. But democrats obviously cannot read. Remember, in their eyes the Constitution is a "living document" subject to interpretation at any given time and depending on how they "feel" at the time. The only time they want to talk about separation of powers is when they are criticizing the President and trying to undermine his constitutional authority.

Slacker, I'm guessing that you're under 30. That means you were no more than 4 years old when President Reagan was elected 26 years ago. So how could you talk for everyone under 30 then (as I was) and everyone under 30 now? I have a son, a daughter, 2 nieces and a nephew under 30 and they certainly don't think like you do. So far that's 5-1 in the conservative favor. Oh, I'm sorry I forgot, liberals don't like to keep score. It may make you feel bad.

GunnyG
I guess Pelosi's leaving no doubt as to whose side she's on.

I remember when the Shah of Iran was deposed in 1978. When the imams took over, they started up public hangings for those who had supported the shah.

I wonder if C-Span will televise the public hangings of republicans in the US Congress when Imam Pelosi takes over America?

Lynne
C'mon, you know that the federal laws (like the Logan Act) only apply to Republicans.

For Socialist-Democrats, there's NEVER any "controlling legal authority".

If she didn't try and influence anything, what the hell was she doing over there, shopping? You're an idiot. Do you think that she went just to invite Assad to San Francisco for dinner sometime? And to presume that she could also talk for the government of Israel is even more looney. She broke the law. Period. At the very least she should be censored by the House.

onlineanalyst
Are you forgetting that it is our very own Republican President that is STILL pushing his traitorous open borders policy and immigration plan?

Not to mention pushing the plan to integrate our country with Canada and Mexico into a North American Union?

http://www.eagleforum.org/topics/NAU/

Pelosi broke the law
Nancy Pelosi violated the Logan act. She is attempting to reduce the Presidency to a figurehead position. The problem with the dems is that they have worked counter to GWB since the beginning. They hate this man and they now have a tradition in dealing in hatred. If you oppose them it is likely that you will receive their hatred. There is nothing wrong with a fact finding tour. It is illegal for her to negotiate with a foreign government. She also apparently lied to the Syrians about Israel. That was a very dangerous thing to do. There was some reference to memebers of the GOP saying things about Clinton overseas that in and of itself is not a violation of the Logan act. I believe that the DOJ shoud initiate an investigation regarding her overseas jaunt and put a stop to this type of philandering. Also, this law should be enforced across the board. If a Republican or Demoncrat does it they need to suffer the consequences.

What exactly is wrong with the "traitorous open borders policy and immigration plan?"

What's wrong with a North American Union?

Bush Administration, Dying at the Border
GUNNY C

http://www.controlcongress.com

It is no secret that the Bush administration is failing and failing badly. The woes of the administration are legion, Iraq, immigration, the economy, Katrina, health care, gasoline prices, etc. The impact on public opinion is profound. Bush is well on his way to being one of the least popular presidents in U.S. history. His current popularity rating of 31% may be a high water mark. The twenties and perhaps teens are not that far off. Increasingly he has lost, not just liberals and mainstream Americans, but conservatives as well. The key question is why? Why has this once promising administration gone downhill so far and so fast? Is it just bad luck or is their a deeper force at work? In my view, the ideology and practice of Open Borders has condemned this president to complete failure. Could the Bush administration turn itself around by changing its stance on immigration? Yes, but it is exceedingly unlikely to happen. Bush is doomed and may not finish his term in office.

It is clear that the immigration polices of this administration are deeply unpopular and contrary to what the public wants. Clearly, immigration is contributing mightily to the low standing of this president. However, immigration is also directly responsible for the economic failings of this president and is (one step removed) also responsible for the debacle in Iraq. Immigration is also partially responsible for all of the other problems (Kartrina, gasoline prices, health care, Dubai ports, etc.). The links between immigration and what ails Bush (and America) are explained in more detail below. What should be clear by the end, is that immigration is either directly or partially for everything (and there is a lot) that is weighing down this president.

The immigration failures of this administration are obvious. The border is totally out of control and Bush completely refuses to even try to control it. Ordinary Americans are demanding immigration control and Bush has abandoned even the pretense of enforcing our laws (by some measures enforcement has declined by 95% at least, but other measures 100%). Ordinary Americans fiercely resent illegal aliens taking over their neighborhoods, jobs, and schools. Bush actually proposed legislation to replace every American worked with a foreigner who would do the same job for less (the “willing worker” program).

To call the administration out of touch on immigration would be an injustice to the language. Polls show strong support for greatly intensified enforcement. Bush is still trying to have the Kennedy Amnesty bill passed. Why the administration is so committed to policies that the American people regard as toxic is another matter. However, the reality of a president at war with his own people on this issue, should not be in doubt. Astoundingly, Zogby finds that only 17% of Americans approve of Bush’s immigration policies (7). On border security, Bush gets a 16% approval rating.

Immigration is also responsible for Bush’s economic woes. Superficially the economy should be a source of considerable strength for Bush. The high level numbers are actually rather good. Unemployment is down to 4.6% from a peak of 6.3% in June of 2003. GDP growth in Q1 2006 was 4.8%. The economy grew by 2.7% in 2003, 4.2% in 2004, and 3.5% in 2005. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has rallied from a low of 7286 on October 9th, 2002 to a recent high of 11,643 on May 10, 2006. That a gain of 59.8% in less than four years. The S&P is up 57.25% in the same period. Definitely a lot for investors to cheer about, particularly in the aftermath of the Tech Bubble and corporate scandals (Enron, Tyco, Health South, etc.).

The zooming stock market has reflected fast rising corporate profits. Pretax profits bottomed out at $714 billion (annual rate) in 3Q2001 and have since risen to $1,293 billion in 3Q2005 (not adjusted for inflation) (11). As a percent of GDP profits have grown from 7.0% of GDP (3Q2001) to a peak of 10.9% of GDP in 2Q2005 (down to 10.3% in 3Q2005). At 10.9% of GDP, corporate profits were higher than any year since 1968.

The productivity numbers have also been very, very good. Nonfarm productivity has risen by 17% or more since 2001. What the BLS calls multifactor productivity is up almost 8% since 2000. Per-worker/GDP is perhaps the broadest measure of productivity growth. In chained 2000 dollars, per-worker GDP is up by 8.73%. CPI-U adjusted, per-worker GDP has grown by 7.95%. The strong growth in productivity has almost completely offset nominal wage growth. Unit labor costs have only risen by 4.3% since 2001 (9).

Of course, Americans haven’t been shy about spending under Bush. Indeed, it’s been party time for several years as anyone who travels or frequents upscale restaurants can attest. The number tell the same happy story. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) rose by 15.64% from 1Q2001 to 4Q2005. Not bad given that GDP only rose by 13.9% in the same five years (13).

As you can see it is easy to come up with a whole panoply of good economic news. But still… The American people just don’t agree. Poll after poll give gloomy views on the economy. Indeed 59% of Americans rate the economy as only “fair” or “poor” (8). Is the public wrong? Deluded? Confused by liberals? Where it only so. The sad truth is that the economic boom has passed the American people by. Indeed, they are suffering more from the backwash of inflated prices than enjoying any of the fruits. Why? As is all too frequently the case, Open Borders is killing the American Dream by making sure that only immigrants (legal and illegal) and the elites get richer while ordinary Americans get poorer.

This is not some liberal/left-wing fantasy. Indeed the left goes to great pains to avoid using the “I” word when they are talking about jobs/wages/incomes. The sad reality is that from the standpoint of ordinary working Americans, the economy is weak, at best. Some of the facts are downright scary. For example, only 9% of the new jobs created from 2000 to 2005 when to the American people even though Americans accounted for 61% of adult population growth (1). Worse, labor force participation has been falling since Bush took office (10). In January of 2001, it was 67.2%. Now it is 66.1%. You have to go back to the first days of the Clinton administration to find numbers this low (actually 66.2% in January of 1993). Labor force participation does not normally fall in an expanding economy… (12). Indeed, this appears to be the first recovery with declining labor force participation.

Sadly, the minority data is worse. Black male labor force participation has fallen from 69.4% in January of 2001 to 67.7% in May of 2006. Black female labor force participation declined from 60.1% to 59.1% in the same time period. Hispanic labor force participation (both sexes) has also declined, from 69.9% in January of 2001 to 68.7% in May of 2005.

The jobs growth numbers all point in the same direction. This is, by far, the worst recovery in modern history for employment. The last recession ended in November of 2001. Since then (actually the next 48 months) employment has grown by 4.7%. The worst prior recovery enjoyed jobs growth of 6.2%. The average recovery since the 1960s has produced 9.5% growth in jobs. Sadly, the payroll employment data is much worse (14) showing only 2.6% growth over 4 years.

Average weekly earnings peaked back in November of 2003 and have since declined. Amazingly, weekly wages are now back where they were in 1959 and 17% below the high in 1972. Forty six years without a raise. Something to be proud of. Not surprisingly the poverty rate has risen steadily since Bush took office. Back in 2000 the poverty rate was 11.3%. By 2004 it reach 12.7%. The poverty rate always rises in recessions. This may be the first boom with rising poverty (3).

Median household income tells the same tale of woe. Median incomes have declined every year Bush has been in office and are now 3.8% ($1740) below the 1999 level (4). Quite an accomplishment for a president who thinks tax cuts for the wealthy will make us rich.

The superficially nice consumption numbers (15.64% growth in five years) start looking rather dodgy once you look under the covers. Cleary GDP didn’t grow nearly fast enough to pay the piper. Nor did compensation keep pace. Indeed, compensation of employees rose by only 8.3% in the same period. Something had to give. Indeed, the savings rate fell from 2.4% of disposable income in 1Q2001 to -0.5% in 4Q2005 and -1.3% in 1Q2006. Where is the money coming from? Greenspan found the home equity extraction reached $600 billion in 2004 (15)(16) an immodest 7% of disposable income. Are folks using their homes as ATM machines really thrilled with the economy? Does ever rising debt pave the road to heaven? Or would that be hell?

Of course, none of this had to be true. Productivity has risen strongly in recent years (see above). Soaring productivity could have brought large wage and salary gains to ordinary Americans. Productivity alone should have increased incomes by 8% since 2000. No one likes paying $3 for gasoline. However, not too many people would be complaining with fast rising wages. This is not a fantasy. In the 1950s and 60s, wages and median incomes rose right along with the economy. Then we abandoned our borders…

There are other dismal numbers as well (after all economics is the “Dismal Science”). Household inequality has increased under Bush (5). Inequality also went up under Clinton (”no interior enforcement”). Back when we took our borders seriously it declined, from 1947 to 1968. Inequality only started to soar when mass immigration resumed in the 1970s. Predictably, male median earnings fell from 2002 to 2004 and are now lower than they were back in 1973. The percentage of Americans without health insurance has risen from 14.2% in 2000 to 15.7% in 2004. Employment based health insurance fell from 63.6% in 2000 to 59.8% in 2004 (6). Why bother proving benefits when you have illegals?

If the economic statistics weren’t bad enough for Bush, we have the Iraq debacle. Is Open Borders really responsible for Iraq? At least indirectly, the answer is clearly yes. No we aren’t fighting illegal aliens in Ramadi or Sadr city. However, the connection to Open Borders is far from trivial. The easiest linkage is simply the cast of characters. Almost without exception, the cheerleaders for the Iraq war were Open Borders fanatics. Of course, the WSJ and Senor Bush fall into this category. However, you will also find the likes of Fred Barnes (The Weekly Standard), William Kristol (The Weekly Standard), Ben Wattenberg (AEI), and Michael Barone (US News & World Report) in this group.
By contrast, the strongest advocates of immigration reform were generally skeptical of the Iraq war or overtly opposed (Michelle Malkin being a rare exception). What is the connection? Both the Iraq war and Open Borders were/are based on a panglossian view of human nature. If you think America can tolerate massive legal/illegal third world immigration, then the idea that Iraq could be transformed into a model Middle Eastern nation with human rights, free elections, a free-market economy, peace with Israel, and U.S. bases might make sense. Saner voices recognized both ideas as deeply crazy. Crushing Saddam’s murderous and ultimately dangerous (sanctions were fading) regime might have made sense. Pouring American blood into the desolate soils of the Middle East to nurture “democracy” was, and is, folly.

Is immigration responsible for the other problems weighing on the Bush administration? In many cases, the answer is yes, at least to some extent. Only a president deeply wedded to Open Borders would have threatened his very first veto over the Dubai ports deal. A saner administration would have quashed the deal upfront or authorized it only after deep and credible scrutiny. Gasoline prices? The population of the U.S. has risen by 82 million since the mid-1970s when we built our last oil refinery. Most of the growth has been do to immigration. Runaway population growth doesn’t work with highly limited energy development. Something has to give, prices it would seem. A different president would make these choices clear or simply tell the American people that immigration must be stopped until we have a consensus in favor new pipelines, power plants, refineries, offshore drilling, etc. Hard choices in the Pollyanna world of Senor Bush? They don’t exist.

The immigration sickness infecting U.S. health care has already been mentioned. Of course, as the uninsured population explodes the costs fall on taxpayers and those with private insurance. These burdens make insurance even less affordable, pushing more and more folks into the ranks of those without. Why so-called conservatives would demand an immigration policy than can only end with socialized medicine boggles the mind. Perhaps non compos mentis explains it all.

Did Open Borders bring Katrina to the Big Easy? Actually, No. Even the most ardent restrictionists don’t suggest an enforceable ban on category 5 hurricanes. However, in a normal economy the reconstruction work would be providing well paid job opportunities for poor and working class Americans. Such a thing will never happen with Bush in office.

The Bush administration is clearly infected with some kind of “End of History” globalist worldview where mass migration is both inevitable and desirable. In this wonderful future fantasy, borders will disappear and all of mankind will embrace capitalism, free markets, free trade, democracy, etc. Sadly, this Pollyannaish view of the human condition has led to tragedy abroad, and economic failure at home. What should be clear is that the ideology of Open Borders is directly and indirectly responsible for the woes of the Bush administration. As of this late date there is little they can do about it. After 9-11, Bush had a perfect moment in time, to change course and save his presidency and his country. With malice and forethought he threw it away.

John Konop
When I saw the length of your post, my eyes glazed over. So much so that now I'm legally blind.

Thanks for nothing, John.

What was really said?
I feel that we should all begin to call on our Senators and Congressmen to subpoena Nancy Polosi and all others that went with her. She should answer under oath what was said in Syria because what she has said so far contradicts other statements. Why should they be the only ones able to call for subpoenas to get to the truth?

Hijacked!
Gunny C?

John Konop Contro what?
I stopped reading after the first two sentences.
"In my view...."

Did you write this or was this lifted (same way Curic gets her peices)?

Let's focus on borders. Like a leaser beam to borrow a well known phrase.

Why is it "traitorous" on the presidents part?

RetMSgt
Well considering you don't know what she was doing over their either then you are an idiot as well. My point has been proven. No one knows what she said or who she said it to however since she's a Dem then 'she must have done something wrong'. I don't pretend, like of some of you fools, to know everything but since no one knows what she said how can she be breaking the law? You have no idea what she said so please keep the rumors flying ok?

Demo Avenger
We do know she didn't say to to Assad "stop supporting terrorist activities against Iraq, American Troops in Iraq, Lebenon, or Isreal."

She was representing her U.S. Government office which does not entitle her to initiate diplomacy.

Repubs should
Have Pelosi debrief congress on her trip while under oath so we can send her caniving arse to jail when we verify she lied under oath. It would be Soooooooooooooooooooooooo easy.

Yes, the msm would berate R's for it, but they are going to berate R's if they don't do it anyway.

Let's get rid of her for "in the best interests of the country".

DIPLOMACY BY THE QUEEN "P."
SAY DID ANYONE SEE ANY PROOF OF NANCE THE ENCHANCER'S ADDRESS TO THE TERRORIST SYRIAN LEADER, I MEAN WHAT DID SHE SAY TO MR. GOOFY?

YES, I KNOW SHE SAID SHE DID US A WORLD OF GOOD AND DID NOTHING TO EMBARASS THE PREZ BUT WHO'S TO KNOW, WHERE'S THE TRANSCRIPT? I WOULDN'T TRUST LANTROS TO SPEAK FOR ME THE GUY CAN'T REMEMBER TO TAKE HIS MEDS, I THINK HIS APPEASMENT SPEECH WAS PROOF OF THAT.

ANYONE GETS SOME STUFF ABOUT WHAT QUEEN "P." SAID, PRINT IT.

GUNNY AND BUSH SELL US OUT
If you do not want to understand the immigration issue than do not ask! VOTERS LIKE YOU WHO ONLY LISTEN TO SOUND BITES ARE KILLING OUR COUNTRY!

subpoenas?
"Why should they be the only ones able to call for subpoenas to get to the truth?"

Oh I would love to get DIck and Bush under oath... boy that would be fun. I would firstlove to ask them if they ever withheld information in leading up to the war... ? Information that contradicted what they used to jusitfy the war.. Yes and many more questions for those boys.. OH well we can only dream..

Sorry Nanna
You get the credit.

Beyond the law?
Of course Liberals are beyond the law. Look at Sandy Bergler. He's out and about giving speeches when he should be in prison.

Repubs aren't going to hold the lib's feet to the fire since the press will make them "look mean".

Pelosi will keep doing what she's doing, no matter how much of a dingbat she comes across as being.

Isnt Pelosi In the Legislative Branch??
When was it EVER the Speaker of the House's responsibility to come up with and implement an alternate foreign policy for the USA besides the CONSTITUTIONAL policy formulated by the Executive Branch and the COC?? Cant Pelosi be censured or even recalled for PRETENDING to be the Secretary of State??

Pelosi trip
Ms. Pelosi is kind of like the rookie that the boss puts in a position of authority as a joke, because the feeling is she knows so little she wont do much damage. The only problem is she can and is doing a lot of damage. But thats not all bad. The more stunts like this trip she pulls the more it puts the dems in a bid light. All the decisions she has made in the so called first 100 days have been ill advised. Bush has made some mistakes, but the fact that he continues to do what he feels is best for the nation in the face of a very liberial media and democrats that hate him, whine, and fight him at every move is to his credit. Think about it. The stock market is at an all time high, the ecomony rolls along with some 150,000 new jobs every month, we have not had another 911 like attack in over 5 years. 70% of us own our own home, and have a nice car to drive, we have to just run to the Krogers for all the food we need, and kids are getting the best education ever. We are living longer, and new medical breakthroughs are taking place on a regular basis. We can vent in a form like this. No wonder people in the rest of the world want what we have, FREEDOM. Idiot politics will not last. God bless America.

Johnny Boy

Your assumption that I don't understand the immigration issue is way off the mark. Wait lets assume you are right and I don't understant the immigration issue.
AGAIN-What exactly is wrong with the "traitorous open borders policy and immigration plan?"

DA
Thanks for coming out. Since you didn't see your shadow, I assume winter will be over soon. Now crawl back down your hole.

We already had the prewar information battle here a year ago. Just so you know, your side lost.

You may also find it useful to know that even your disingenuous Lib congress doesn't want to go the subpoena route on GWB & "DIck". It turns out you need something to go on. Something like evidence in which to make a legal charge or a violation to investigate. Just wishful thinking doesn't cut it.

Correction
Yes, they WANT to subpeona them. They just can't.

Don
What's the matter? Don't you like a little manifesto with cheese and alfredo sauce.

I can't wait to hear from DA again. It's going to be good.

LOL, "The Red Nanny"!
I love that one. That's a nickname that will stick Pelosi for sure!

LIBERAL SPENDING GUNNY

It will bankrupt our country! I realize you are a big hearted liberal but every low wage tax payer subsidized worker cost us about $22,000 dollars a year after paying taxes. I realize liberals like you, GEORGE BUSH, TED KENNEDY want to provide healthcare, schools…. for the whole world. If you feel so generous please use your OWN MONEY!

Here's the only part of your manifesto that I thought was right on the money.

"borders will disappear and all of mankind will embrace capitalism, free markets, free trade, democracy, etc..)

What has changed in immigration since Reagan was the commander in chief?

Perhaps you didn't read the Heritage foundations part on what the benefits of these guest workers are.

Good thing we don't get their cost subsidized by us high wage tax payers.
"every low wage tax payer subsidized worker cost us about $22,000 dollars a year after paying taxes."
Grab a tissue tax day is creeping up on you!

about Nancy
The photo of Nancy attached to this artical; She looks as though she is having a hard time swallowing what Assad shot in her mouth!

pelosi
You ain't seen nothin yet!

Fuzzy math
John Konop
I have a question. If the average low skilled household gets approximately $32,000 in gov't benefits, how can they pay over $9,000 in taxes? I may not be the sharpest economist in the shed, but this doesn't make sense. Maybe the Heritage Foundation should explain how they came up with these numbers.

What's worse-
Apparently, Red Nanny is the best the dems in the House have. Or did she purchase her Speaker position (read- did her husband purchase)? How in the world did she beat out the other lunatics? She did it by being MORE of a lunatic.

Her last straw should be if she goes to Iran. It's time to say more than, "Please don't go." It is time for - "You are not permitted to go!"

If she gets away with another unauthorized jaunt I will consider her Commander-in-Chief myself.

COST OFLOW WAGE IMMIGRATION
RETMSG

First the tax side includes sales tax, income tax…….

The expense side includes Schools, healthcare……

You do understand it cost about 10k for education per kid not including building expansion needs?

You do understand cost of healthcare?

Geez
Even my local liberal NY Times owned newspaper condemned her. They also condemned her dangerous supplemental bill. Somebody needs to remind the liberal left better to die on your feet than live on your knees. Appeasing the fanatics will bring life to it's knees.

Gunny What benefits
Do you think we can make up the $23,000 dollar Deficiet per low wage immigrant worker in volume? I guess so since you support the 9 trillion dollar debt President Bush brought us!

Still fuzzy
I understand the cost of healthcare just fine. It still doesn't make sense that someone who is making far less than $32,000 per year can pay over $9000 in taxes. Whether you include sales tax or not. Even if I paid 6% of my entire annual household income to sales tax, it would only come to $6000.
Here's the problem with this study that you cited: "While this report covers all households headed by persons without a high school degree (both immigrants and non-immigrants), the figures for low skill immigrant households alone are quite similar to those presented in the paper for all low skill households.)
I think the biggest problem is that we have so many people that have dropped out of high school. With immigrants making up approximately 25% of the study, think how much we could drop these numbers if we could only get American kids to stay in school.

For Brujo Blanco
How apt that Pelosi broke Logan Law.

To explain:
--In 1982, Canada's then PM, Trudeau gave his nation "the bird" (in full view of CBC cameras) from Mt. LOGAN.
--Pelosi figuratively gives America (which elected her as House Speaker) "the bird" figuratively by going to Syria--violating the LOGAN Law.

(and I hope that America in 2008 rewards her as Canada rewarded Trudeau in 1984--voting his party out of power; admittedly, it DIDN't make a wise choice, as Mulroney duplicated Trudeau in many ways including resigning just before his party would get a crushing defeat, but...)

I miss .........
Tehran Kimbat ..... Where are you?

Don
I know what you mean. I'm all for immigration reform and I think that we need to shut our borders. But when John Konop threw out the manifesto with all kinds of numbers that get in the way of the whole forest, his whole message got lost in the underbrush. Something I was taught in the military about information overload. It was a short subject and to the point.

Chris Matthews
Yes, it was good ole boy Chris Matthews who once opined in print that William Jefferson Clinton would be the greatest President of our times, yes, ole Chris wrote ever glowing articles about the Slickster and how lucky we all were to have him [ever notice that old Chrissyboy is a blonde?]. About a year into the Billary Administation, Chris started backing off his glowing praises.
It should be no surprise that Chris is back to it now with Pelosevich, and if the Dems manage to create a second Islamist terror state in the Middle East, I wonder what ole Chris will be saying/writing about that?

Picking up the guns
If one reads what is above the left shoulder of Thomas Jefferson's statue in DC one reads that the people have the right to end an unresponsive government, by force if necessary. We have reached that point IMHO. We have a government that is unresponsive to the desire of the American people to have immigration curtailed and illegal immigration stopped. We have a government unresponsive to the desires of the American people to see our hard-earned tax dollars poured like cloudbursts to pariah nations that take the dollars and cheer when a terrorist attack happens on our shores, stopped. We have a government unresponsive to the desires of the American people to have judicial tyranny/activism stopped as in the Kelo decision in Connecticut that put every citizen's home in jeopardy from greedy developers ... and on and on. when will we stop entertaining ourselves to death, turn off the Anna Nicole News, the Britnifcation of our culture and take some action?

RetMSgt, Lynne
When have I ever been wrong about anything? Every prediction, save one, I have ever made on TH comes true.

I am also over 30. There is no way anyone under 30 could accumulate all the wisdom that I have.

I did not say ALL people under 30 are democrats. I said the majority of them are. Your friends and relatives are not a majority of the people in their 20's and 30's.

Let's keep score. If a democrat wins the white house in 2008, you buy me dinner.

If a republican wins I'll buy you dinner.

Isn't it possible . .
that Pelosi was not stopped from going so she could insult the Syrians by being both a woman and someone specifically designated as "not representative of US policy". Despite her floral headrag, she certainly showed no respect for the head of this Islamic state by her pancake and lipstick exposure. They can try to spin this to the rest of the world, but I doubt her image appeared nearly as much on Syrian TV as elsewhere. It was totally disrespectful for her to appear without any veil at all, and then to talk diplomacy when designated as unauthorized, . . well, I would think the Syrian leader would be embarrassed. I think that is how I would play this if I were W. Apologize to Syria for having suffered such embarrssment then tell them that if they clean up their act and behave, we'll send a real representative to talk. So sorry we didn't control that wacked megalo-maniac, . . hope she didn't make you look too foolish to your constituency.

Don, RetMSgt
I was only pointing out that his article and the numbers didn't add up.
John then tried to be the victim by letting us know that $$ was spent per low wage earners.

He is sticking with the "it's the illigal immigrant's fault our country is going down the drain". If we had no illigal immigrants we wouldn't have to pay soooo much in taxes, we wouldn't have the crime, we wouldn't have low wages.

Slacker
You beleive your own spew. Do ya?

How is it that all those democrats claim that they are "independent".
The Republicans I know now and those I new back in Ronnie's era have always claimed to be "Republican" who are these independents?

Are a bit confused by Senator Lieberman's independent status that leads you to believe that all "I" are former dimocrats?

"Go talk to people under the age of 30. You will see I am right. The majority may claim they are "independent" but they are democrats. If you had the same conversations during Reagan's era, you would have found the majority were republicans."

tombo777 In our country ...

There will an important election in 2008.

The democrats will win the white house in 2008.

This is the kind of action the founding fathers envisioned for our democracy.

You need to face it.

You are on the wrong side of history.

I will tell You the Problem Gunny
Economists Are Destroying America

Economists, politicians, and executives from both parties have promised American families that “free” trade policies like NAFTA, CAFTA, and WTO/CHINA would accomplish three things:

• Increase wages
• Create trade surpluses (for the US)
• Reduce illegal immigration

Well, their trade policies have been in effect for about 15 years. Let’s review the results:

• Declining real wages for 80% of working Americans (while healthcare, education, and childcare costs skyrocket)
• A record-high 46 million Americans who don’t have health insurance (due in part to declining wages and benefits)
• Illegal immigration out of control
• Soaring trade deficits, much with countries that use slave and child labor
• Personal and national debt both out-of-control
• Global environments threatened by lax trade deal enforcement

Economists Keep Advocating Policies That Aren’t Working

Upon seeing incontrovertible evidence of these negative trade agreement results, economists continue with Pollyannish blather. Some say, “Cheer up! GDP is up and the stock market’s doing fine.” Others say, “Be patient. Stay the course. Free trade will raise all ships.”

Even those economists who acknowledge problems with trade agreements offer us only half-measures—adjusting exchange rates, improving safety nets, and providing better job retraining. None of these will close the wage gap in America—and economists know it.

Why Aren’t American Economists Shouting From Street Corners?

America needs trade deals that support American families and businesses in terms of wage, environmental, and intellectual property abuses. Why aren’t economists demanding renegotiation of our trade deals? There are three primary reasons:

• Economists are too beholden to corporations and special interests that provide them with research grants.
• Economists believe—but refuse to admit—that sacrificing the American middle class is necessary and appropriate to generate gains in third world economies.
• Economists refuse to admit they make mistakes.

Economic Ambulance Chasers

Now more than ever, Americans need their economists to speak truth and stand up to their big business clients. Instead, economists sound like lawyers caught chasing ambulances: they claim they’re “doing it for our benefit”.

You may be correct concerning those under 30 being demoncats. I am over thirty and I am an independent who always votes republican. I like many I know that claim independent are just plain disappointed with the turncoats in the republican party. Problem is the independent party does'nt come close to the campaign finance capabilities of either the dems or reps, and its a shame because they are both corrupt. I wish the voting majority in this country was a conservative independent we would truly have the America our fore fathers had hoped for and died for.

Gunny C
I invite you to my dinner challenge.

If a republican is elected president in 2008 I will buy you dinner.

If a "dimmocrat" as you conservatives like to call them is elected, you can buy me dinner.

Young people do not obsess over politics the way people on TH, including me, do. They tend to think of themselves as "free and independent" thinkers who are tolerant of pretty much everything, even if most of what they think comes from their peers and the tube. Thats why they will claim to be "independent" but when confronted with an election ballot the majority will pick the non-republican in 2008.

If you want them to take a public stand, you must present them with some consequence of Bush's war. If they hear a friend joins the military and ships out to Iraq they will shrug their shoulders and say "well, whatever" and go back to youtube, myspace, or their video game. But, if Bush were to re-institute the draft, yank them out of their colleges or day jobs and force them to serve in Iraq to put the 300 to 400 thousand pairs of boots on the ground he needs to win over there, you can bet you will see more marches and as big a peace movement as in the 60's.

a direct slap at the president,
He had it coming. He has been ignoring the
American public long enough. I think many of
the senators and representatives, who perhaps
recognize that they are there to serve ALL the
people, have gotten the message even if Bush
hasn't.

Gunny C
Are you beginning to see the light? WOW

Hal
What light the one that shines on the lack of truth most of the left spews out. We have the media being impartial to our two party system.

They make most Americans believe that they must go with the lesser of two evils. They point out the Republican shortcommings and brush aside any Democratic flaw.

John K
Are you taking the blame off the immigrants and placing it on the Economists?

Since you are reviewing results explain your 80% of Americans with declining wages. Did they work for $25/hr and the next day they went to work for $22/hr.

46 million without health insurance. It's still available at a cost. Maybe give up a six pack and a carton of smokes and you've got coverage. Perhaps you would like the employer to pay for their insurance and increase their wages while making a profit?

John K
I'll skip your flawed arguments on illigal immigration being out of control, soaring trade deficits, debt and a threatened environment.
What policies aren't working in this capitalistic society? If we have a wage gap why do you insist that government correct that instead of the markets.

We are not socialists we are capitalists. Most of us earn our wages, we don't rely on government handouts for those that underachieve.

If I am in the middle class why wouldn't I want to be in the upper class or be independently wealthy.

Slacker
Surf and Turf. Porter house well done and Alaskan lobster.

Why would the young Americans vote democrat in '08?

What's the agenda, re-deploy the troops to Okinawa, Spread the Pork, photo ops with those heads of state that sponsor terrorism, eliminate tax breaks, kill embryos for research?

Pelosi
I think Jay Leno had it right: Our offical policy is to punish Syria for not renouncing terrorism. Hey, maybe the visit from Nancy Pelosi was the punishment...Iranian President Mahmud I'm-A-Nut-Job released those 15 British captives after they were held hostae for 13 days. Iran was worried that if they didn't act soon, Nancy Pelosi would go over and talk to them too.

It is time!
It's damn time we formed another party!

Conservative party, Federalist party, I'm open for suggestions. If there are any men/women with a backbone, we can invite them in. So far, I don't know of a single politician in DC I would give the time of day! They're frikkin' cowards, every last one of them!

The Repubs do nothing but bend over, grab their ankles, and take it in the poop shute for these lunatics and I've had enough! The American conservative population has to take the reins!

So much for teaching them spend and bribe Republicans a lesson! They seem to have lost their NUTS! We need a party that is not afraid to represent us!

I give up!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've had it with the poor maintenance of this site! Half the time we are getting a "this page does not exist" when we try to post or follow a link!!!!!!!!!!!

The web masters of this site can stick it where the sun don't shine! My 10 year old grandaughter could do a better job.

It's not Daffy Diplomacy! It's Treason!
