Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Hillary has to be nervous. At this juncture in the campaign, she's being edged out in the Goo Primary. Her natural allies in the media suddenly are more adulatory toward Barack Obama -- and more defensive of anyone who would dare question his exotic biography.

Insight magazine, a longstanding publication of The Washington Times Co., published a gossipy item with anonymous "Democratic Party" sources (they claimed some of them came from Hillary's camp) that Obama had attended a madrassa -- a radical Islamic school -- in Indonesia as a child. The story was unproven and should not have been published in its sorry condition.

The most obvious media outlet coming to the rescue was CNN, which now might be the Obama News Network, and not just the Clinton News Network. "DEBUNKING A SMEAR," screamed the headline on CNN. Reporter John Vause reported from the scene in Indonesia that Obama was actually educated in a state-run school that touched on religion only once a week, "in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Jakarta."

Wolf Blitzer repeatedly described CNN as doing "serious journalism" and that "CNN did what any serious news organization is supposed to do in this kind of a situation. We actually conducted an exclusive firsthand investigation."

Further to the point, CNN President Jon Klein milked the issue to savage the competition, telling The New York Times it was irresponsible for Fox News to mention the Insight tale "without bothering to -- or being able to -- ascertain the facts."

Earth to CNN: Facts are important, but you might want to save the lecturing for someone who didn't hire Peter Arnett to shovel Saddam's horse manure on your airwaves. Or outrageously aired a "news documentary" that falsely accused America of gassing its own soldiers in Laos. Factually challenged smears? CNN has a record unchallenged on cable.

Let's be clear about this. The liberal media don't care what Democratic love objects do when they're in grade school, even in Indonesia, just as they didn't care what Bill Clinton was doing touring Russia and the Soviet bloc in his 20s, just as they didn't care how he dodged the draft or whether he inhaled, just as they didn't even want to know if Clinton raped a woman when he was 32.

But Obama ought to thank his lucky liberal stars that he's not a Republican. This is not the standard the media had for George W. Bush in 1999, when the entire liberal media ran in a pack suggesting Bush was a cokehead.

How did CNN, that oasis of "serious journalism" which always attacks a story facts-first, approach the Bush-cocaine flap in August 1999? First, in early August, the network teased the reader with talk of "rumors" about Bush on "Larry King Live." Then, it surfaced on several weekends as rumor-floating on "The Capital Gang" and as a media ethics discussion on "Reliable Sources."

Then it arrived on the news shows, but always presented in play-dumb terms as an unmanned missile, a question anonymously "dogging" Bush. (What rich irony!) CNN only had a candidate who refused to answer a question, beyond saying he'd pass a government background check. Wolf Blitzer and the president of CNN didn't send reporters anywhere to investigate. There were no lectures about getting ahead of the facts. The dominant expectation of CNN for days and days was that Bush must answer the charge. He had to deny something no one had credibly accused him of doing.

How low could it go? On its old all-female chat show, "CNN & Company," Chicago Tribune reporter Ellen Warren upped the ante, speculating that Bush was into heroin, not just cocaine: "No, the questions aren't going to go away. And if George Bush used cocaine or mainlined heroin, somebody did it with him, somebody saw it, and reporters will find out about it."

CNN not only presented and fed the rumors, it then accused others of having done it. Blitzer reported that while Democrats were "not going to out and start making those kinds of accusations" of cocaine use directly, they're happy "that at least some of the Republicans on the far right, some of the more right-wing Republicans, are doing in effect their work for them." He said this without giggling.

But the richest irony in the contrast is this: Obama has admitted in his biography to using cocaine in high school and college. CNN doesn't care. While they scour the globe to rebut madrassa stories, they're not asking him about this settled truth. Serious journalism, indeed.

As usual, CNN devotes its "serious" journalism to very partisan goals: defeating Republicans and making the path straight and flowery for Democrats. Now that's just reporting the facts.

Why are the cons so upset?
You guys started this when Clinton was running for president.

Then when Bush came along it became no big deal even though W partied and wasted his life until he was 40.

Now it's a double standard because the press isn't jumping over something that Obama has admitted in print?

The media usually jumps on stuff if a public person hides it so if said public figure has made something public it's already lost most of it's newsworthiness.

Obama is the Straw Man
By that I mean, he is being propped up with lots and lots and lots of media coverage now. This will let him run in the primaries and suck the money and air time away from other candidates. But. He will crash and burn in the process. This is, I suggest, by design. The big money candidate (Hillary) will survive and take the primary votes to win. She will end up the Democrat candidate. QED.

CNN is the Communist News Network (or Marxist News Network, if you prefer).

"just hilarious!"
"just hilarious!"
Stop by for something that is "just hilarious!". We all need a lighter moment, right?

My friend and coworker grew up in Indonesia too. As a Chinese Christian. Two the of the things mosted hated by Muslims Indonesians. Her town was routinly looted, the woman raped, men and children killed and sold into slavery. Indonesia is reported to be a "moderate" muslim coutry. I hear a whole different story from my friend who grew up there. Ol' Bin Bama got lucky growing up in a Muslim home. It allowed him to survive to get where he is today. Had he been Christian, or Chinese Hindue hed prolly woulda been killed. Screw Bin Bama and his leftest agenda. Go back in Indo ya basterd!

"liberalmoralsewer..er...`good'man" -- In grade school they called me Badman, but this is so much more clever and hurts so much more.

"Unbelievably dishonest, as is almost always the case on your side of the aisle." -- Gratuitous insult that doesn't help your case.

"Michelle Malkin and the rightward blog cadre were SCRUPULOUS in their reporting of the AP stringer who may not have existed. They never ONCE said he didn't exist; they said `If he exists, please produce him.' They were the ABSOLUTE MODEL OF JOURNALISTIC EXCELLENCE in this matter." -- Maybe you were reading http://honestMichelleMalkin.com. I saw the other one, where they questioned whether the guy existed, and spent days trashtalking AP on that basis until it became clear he did exist. Then they blamed AP for their "irrational exuberance".

GunnyG asks: "How do the libscum live with themselves?" -- We shower three times a day to get the scum off.

I would wager
dollars to doughnuts there more liberals working at Fox than conservatives working at any other network.

Hey Lynne
Did you ever notice that if you only air the liberal point of view, you are objective and unbiased, but if you air both sides, you're a partisan right wing shill?

They've had a stranglehold on information for so long, anything outside their circle of dogma is terrifying and unfair.

You'd think they'd be satisfied with complete and total control over the education establishment, but nooooooooo......

Hillary-Obama Ticket in 2008
Why doesn't anyone talk about a Hillary-Obama ticket for the 2008 election? They'll fight tooth and nail throughout the primaries, and toward the end of the convention the two of them come out on stage, arms in the air, and holding hands to the cheers of worshipping Dems. Isn't this obvious? What a dream ticket. The white, married-to-Bill woman presidential nominee running with the charismatic, black vice presidential nominee. I would never vote for them, but I'm afraid that's the ticket that will propel Hillary (and, for all intents and purposes, the Democrats) into the White House come January 20, 2009.

Let's elect someone with ...
leadership experience! That would not be Hillary or Obama. Neither has been in government long enough to qualify as qualified. Come back in 20 years and we can review their history, but aren't they both still in their first terms in the Senate? Oh, yeah, Hillary was president in the sheets for eight years, but that doesn't mean she has experience in actually making any real decisions. It's not like Bill made many hard choices when he was in the Oval Office, so how can we expect Hilllary to have learned from osmosis.

There are better choices out there. Some of them are even Democrats. Can we move on to the grown-ups now?

i just dont get it
why is everyone so mad at the fact that cnn bashes republicans while foxnews bashes dems? that's like complaining that the other's team pitcher is trying to strike out your batters while your pitcher is trying to strike out their batters.

if you really think that foxnews/cnn gets everything right all the time without an agenda, you're naive or mad.

You may want to check out Brit Hume's Special Report as an example of what TV news reporting should be. The best news show by far, hands down.

Is Wolf Blitzer Still Around???
I thought Wolf was laughed off the MSM stage after his fawning behavior during the Clinton Presidency years...I thought he might be somewhere in Texas still looking for a Texas National Guard story on President Bush or in Iowa serving as an advance man for explaining Senator Hillary Clinton's ethanol votes to Iowa farmers...
Guess I'll try to find CNN on my television again and try to catch his show, though, according to demographics, I am probably too young to be a CNN viewer!

Barak Hussein Obana
Sa'id Barak Hussein bin Baraka Hussein bin Hussein Obama may or may not have attended an Indonesian madrassa but it is a lay-down misère - New York to a n islamafascistic bomber's brick - that said Sa'id, son and stepson of full-blown barking muslims, is at best, an apostate muslim and is to the Christianity to which he pretends what Michael Jackson is to heterosexuality.

And while many will disagree with my contention and others will take umbridge at my giving it voice, I'll also (while on the subject of the hometowns of vapid carpetbagging morally and intellectually insolvent "Democrats") bet Chicago to another islamanazi's Wad-el-Mansi mud hut that none of mrs nor mr Cli'ton nor any member of the vast criminal enterprises they front -- nor yet any of our nation's psychopathologically-hesperophobic islamic enemies -- will be among them.

How do the libscum live with themselves? It's easy. They're rotten from the top to the bottom and think along Carville's lines.

Re: Huey Long.

Carville said that Long was corrupt, but at least he kept things interesting, and even sung his own theme song which said that every man could be king.

"I'm not saying that we don't have corruption in Louisiana, but at least our corrupt politicians have the good graces to entertain us," Carville said. "And I mean if you're gonna steal from us, God darn, leave us a good story or a good joke."

Thus, it's OKAY to rob the people, just tell em a joke or two while you do it!

Tryor, Happy Jake
"Everybody does it," right? Pap.

Keep spinning, boys... but please leave honesty in the hands of those who actually have the moral courage to do the hard work.

liberalmoralsewer..er..."good"man
Unbelievably dishonest, as is almost always the case on your side of the aisle.

Michelle Malkin and the rightward blog cadre were SCRUPULOUS in their reporting of the AP stringer who may not have existed. They never ONCE said he didn't exist; they said "If he exists, please produce him." They were the ABSOLUTE MODEL OF JOURNALISTIC EXCELLENCE in this matter.

But naturally, you're going to use this as a counterpoint to CNN's hypocricy... because for you, it's never about truth or virtue, only about what you can get away with.

How do guys like you live with yourselves, I wonder?

Tryor
CNN and FOX remind me of Alexander Pope's refrain:
"Some blame at morning,
What they praise at night --
But always think
The last opinion right."

That applies to most news organizations. They all have agendas. Readers/viewers have to be discerning.

To "come clean"
To "come clean" one needs to have done what they are RUMORED to have done. The Shrub hasn't gotten a "free pass" on anything from the media. It is very apparent they oppose and often hate the man.

He's done enough wrong (statist government, huge spending, unconstitutional actions) in his position. The stupid attacks on his intelligence and unsupported alleged activities in his youth detract from appropriate criticisms of his policies and actually strengthen him with republicrats who can't stand the emotional and unreasoned vitriol of the loony left.

Silly silly leefu

CNN
The "Crappy News Network" with it's talking heads on TV and empty suits in management is just the worst example of an industry that doesn't matter anymore. No one I know thinks ANY of the "news" shows is little more than semi-interesting entertainment with third rate talent. The print media is a close second with it's half-stupid, liberal liars. I believe NOTHING I see on TV and very little of what I read. Walter Cronkite was a self-important jerk who mentored losers like Rather and his ilk. Look at Katie Courac (SP) the "journalist" ha ha ha - losers.

Eating crow this week
Brent Bozell III, are you saying that Fox repeating the smear days after it had been exposed was better journalism than CNN who reported it correctly?

News outlets compete, and they make mistakes. When one gets cought, the other gets to crow. This week it's Fox eating crow, n'est pas?

Had it gone the other way, with AP quoting a source who didn't exist (oops! he did), or Michelle Malkin showing a picture of an intact mosque (oops! with its roof blown off), or CNN refusing to report recently discovered WMDs in Iraq (oops! Chalabi at work again), would you have held back the crowing?

Good article
Interesting observations. Somehow I doubt Mrs. Clinton is really all the at worried at this point, maybe a little humbled, but she still has most of the chips in the game for the Dem nomination. If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd submit that Mrs. Clinton planned it this way so that by the time the party primaries were over she would appear to be the most moderate of either party. (LOL IF I were a conspiracy theorist)

Bush's turnaround from being an alcoholic was more inspirational than negative in my opinion. Not being up front with his DWI conviction was a dumb move. I think that is why Obama has already trotted out some of the truth about his drug use.I agree with being honest about it, particularly with one's children. I am in the same general age group and recall that 67% of high school seniors in the late 70's had used or experimented with drugs at least once. When my kids were young they asked and I answered truthfully and used it as an opportunity to give them compelling reasons NOT to use drugs. Fortunately they listened and made it all the way through their high school and college years without experimenting with drugs.

It would be reasonable to extrapolate this to politicians in the 45 - 55 year group, which means this part of a person's history may be the norm rather than the exception for the next several years. I'd be more interested in how they respond to questions about what they told their kids and why.

The dreaded MSM leans liberal and I think most people really do know this and take most stories with a grain of salt. But I think the real problem lies in how the average person seems to be getting their news - which in my opinion is in 30-60 second sound bites from their network of choice or from late night comedy.

The best way to cut through the chaff is to read about the issues, which I think has declined drastically in the last 30 years.

To Critical Bill
Here is another case of media bias you were asking for.

Steve L.
There are no ethics in Journalism. Eason Jordan (along with Dan Rather and Jayson Blair) is the rule, not the exception.

Eason Jordan
CNN can never speak of ethics in journalism.

Oh leefu
You must live in a different universe. President Bush would have gotten a pass at first, but the glaring headlines would have appeared when they could do the most damage to his career.

CNN is full of people who want to "make a difference." These folks are not reporters and have no interest in the truth if it doesn't further their ends. CNN is full of advocates, and what they advocate is, frankly, scary.

All the Way to Indonesia
Wow, a reporter dispatched all the way to Indonesia to defend Osama bin Bama.

Rich kid, eh? Marching now for the proletariat...

Too bad the reporter couldn't go back in time to see what the actual conditions were when little bin Bama was there.

But we'll just rely on the reporter and news network to give us their best researched information about what it absolutely was like back then, since it's not really provable and all.

Pfffft.

If Dubya had come clean...
...he'd have got a pass too.
