Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

As Bill Maher watched Roseanne Barr deliver her inane rant on the Sept. 12 "Real Time With Bill Maher," it looked -- for half a millisecond -- that he, too, realized what a fool she was making of herself.

But Maher, the caustic comedian and fake libertarian who Larry King thinks is a political pundit and Jonah Goldberg has called a ”libertine socialist,” let his beloved Roseanne babble on about how Gov. Sarah Palin was getting away with racist comments and how rich people who work for big corporations don't pay enough taxes.

Roseanne was a special guest on Episode 132 of Maher's HBO show -- which was re-run all last week until a fresh show appeared Sept. 19 -- because some people Maher knew were saying her life story was a lot like Gov. Palin's.

Roseanne, like Palin, was a working-class mother with lots of kids who came out of obscurity to become famous. And, Maher cracked, whereas Palin has an infant with special needs, Roseanne was once married to Tom Arnold.

That was one of the funnier lines in an often obnoxious, mean-spirited, politically lopsided talk-and-quip show whose anti-Palin/anti-Republican theme was broken only by the occasional Bush bashing or token Bill Clinton joke.

Maher's three guest panelists were comedian Janeane Garofalo, author Salman Rushdie and Wall Street Journal columnist John Fund. Paul Begala, the loyal Clintonista, appeared via satellite.

Maher was the alpha attack dog. Saying he was "officially frightened" by Palin's interview with Charlie Gibson, he called Palin "a Category 5 moron" and said it's unfair to compare pigs to Palin because pigs are smart and "don't believe in creationism."

Garofalo, ill-mannered and looking and acting strange, accused Fund of being dishonest and a sexist. She said George W. Bush didn't win the election of either 2000 or 2004, when "democracy was hacked." And she semi-joked that Republicans should be jailed for being in favor of things like torture and against "reproductive justice."

Rushdie's two-rupees' worth of commentary was mostly liberal boilerplate about Republican misrule, but at least he was adult and civilized.

Poor John Fund. He was beaten up for being smug (by Rushdie), for being a cynic (by Maher) and for being a liar (by Garofalo).

Fund defended Republicans and conservatives, even when they didn't deserve it. But he was interrupted long before he could explain to everyone that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were not stereotypical corporations but government-sponsored enterprises that were poorly regulated and wrecked by politicians of both parties.

Fund's nuances were not appreciated. The partisan gang-bang became so obviously unfair that as time was running out Maher, not known for having a conscience, gave Fund a tip of the hat for putting up a good fight against 4-1 odds. "So what?!" Garofalo shrieked.

Meanwhile, the studio audience, as usual, cheered wildly every time someone knocked Palin or McCain, praised Sen. Obama or said, as Garofalo so cogently did, that Democrats are fundamentally more "decent" than Republicans.

The unbalanced politics of Episode 132 -- not to mention its kindergarten level of discourse – was not atypical. It demonstrated why "Real Time" has become unwatchable for all non-liberals and libertarians or anyone who wants to hear more than a sentence or two of enlightening discussion or honest debate.

Maher has said his show’s first priority is not to achieve political fairness and balance but to provide adult, knowledgeable conversation. Episode 132 had little of either.

Republicans and President Bush deserve to be trashed from across the political spectrum for the many dumb and bad things they've done at home or abroad. It's also reasonable to question Palin's credentials or the decision to pick her.

But the Maher-Garofalo-Rushdie-Barr tag-team made fools of themselves. Nasty fools. And Episode 132 only accomplished what Maher's shows usually do -- validate every stereotype ever made about the simplistic politics, narrow minds and creepy values of Hollywood.

NYT/Maher try to will Age of Obama Lot
Protein Wisdom reports:

As I noted in an update last evening would almost certainly be the case, the media today is pushing the story that the firm owned by McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, lobbied for Freddie and Fannie Mac — all while continuing to ignore exploring, at any length, Sen Barack Obama’s actual ties to those closely related to the current economic meltdown. Not only that, but the Davis-as-tied-to-crisis story is disputed by the McCain campaign — which alleges that the NYT has reported in bad faith, and that public records back up the campaign’s claims that Mr Davis cut ties to his firm in 2006, and that he never lobbied Freddie or Fannie Mac (and in fact, hasn’t been a registered lobbyist since 2005).

All of which, I suppose, is not surprising; after all, the media seems to think that the Sen from Illinois is running against everyone but Senator McCain, from the Gov. of Alaska to a campaign manager, and so their function has been to try to dirty them and hope that as the stories accrue, the public is left with a certain impression crafted by their reporting, while the facts that undercut this impression will ultimately only be “corrected” in the back pages of the paper, if at all.

Loosers
Why would anyone waste their time watching Maher, Roseanne, Garafalo, and Rushdie (apparently no longe rin hiding!)? What are their contributions? Failed comedy, failed movies, and failed publishing, what a triumph for HBO! What stalwart supporters for Slick, yes the dross does float to the top and easily skimmed!

Bill Maher
Is a Gutless Coward of a Liberal Windbag.

Another Reason To Vote McCain/Palin
Raise the level of discourse through civility and ditch the vulgar, stupid, empty, bullying of the FAR LEFT. And for that matter, to the extent that the far right does the same, it would be a wake up call to CUT IT OUT!

Maher, Roseanne, Garafolo and the like treat people they do not like with outright SLANDER and venomous hatred. On top of that, they act arrogant and sound stupid. Who made them the experts on political advice? None of their criticism is constructive - it is just hateful.

I'm the first to stand up for their Constitutional right to be vulgar and stupid, but the truth is that society will benefit greatly with the vulgar, slanderous, bullies are no longer in vogue. And NO you can't bully me to vote for Obama! It says loads that they support him and that is not a complement to Obama.

Bill who????
Is that idiot still on television? He's almost as big a windbag as Joe Biden.

Bill Maher's CrapaPolussa Show
I could never stand Maher's show. I can't relate to the so called intelligent hollywood elites that grace his stage. The more crap comes out of hollywood just helps us folks from Montana know we are voting for the right ticket. I would say put the hollywood elites in a burlap sack and toss it in the river behind my place, but I would'nt want to waste a good sack on hollywood.

I saw that show
It was weird. John Fund called it right mostly.
Garafolo, made a big show of repeating Bin Ladens Fatwa of 1998 as the be-all and end-all of Jihad, and RUSHDIE was able to simultaneoulsy
declare that Al Qaeda wants to take over the Islamic world while from the other side of his mouth insist that Iraq was not part of the war on Terror or the war on Al Qaeda.
Stunning cogdis.

With the exception of John Fund,
the rest of the bunch only waste good oxygen.

Christopher Hitchens!
The English Atheist I referred too in my previous post is Christopher Hitchens.
Any of Bill Maher's shows with this gentleman in them were excellent.

you all are worse than Hitler
how dare you think babies' lives are more important than sexploited young girls or promiscuous men & women!

how dare you think a mother & father are more important than sexual desiring adults wanting the convenience of marriage & a couple of planned out kids!

how dare you! you all are worse than hitler! for killing deer! using energy for things other than plane rides to film festivals! HOW DARE YOU!

Hollywood movie makers know better than you! And Path to 9/11 should be BANNED! It should be on the Palin Book List!

I don't know where I'm going with this... Just like your article! :)

Creationists a joke to Maher?
If Maher perscribes to the evolution theory of Darwin, and Obama is around 12% black, wouldn't that mean he believes his candidate for president has not yet fully evolved? That's what Darwin and his deciples believed and they even said that science prooved it.
It's going to be a real bad day for Bill Maher when he gets to meet his CREATOR.

Unarmed and defenseless.
Perhaps he should take on Ann Coulter And Mark Steyn. I fear they would outnumber a mere four liberals.

BILL IS A UPSIDE DOWNCAKE!
MAHER IS A BAD CIRCUS,HE IS A SIDE SHOW OF EVIL,BILL IS NOT FUNNY.NOW DO YOU SEE THE KIND OF PEOPLE THAT LIKE OBAMA!ALL THE RADICAL-LIBERAL NUTS WANT OBAMA!SICK AND SAD!

Circus of Losers
Why does any conservative go on this show? The panel and the audience are loaded with fire breathing liberals who won't even give the one lone token conservative a chance to respond to the bitter vitrol spewed by these whackjobs. This just reaffirms my belief that the Hollywood elites are out of touch with mainstream America. Wanna get back at Bill Maher? Don't watch the show. Ratings are everything, and if he ain't got 'em, he ain't on.

BILL STIGERWALD-GOOD ARTICLE!
THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP ON THIS BILL MAHER NUT,HE IS A EXTREM-BAD CIRCUS!

BIGBelly:
"I like Bill Maher, unfortunately his show has become a boring liberal celeb laden anti-Bush praise Bill Clinton suck off.
There've been some good shows, one of the latest was the show with Townhall's own Michael Steele who went point for point with uber-liberal actress Kerry Washington and Maher even."

I pretty much agree with your whole post, and I am a liberal. I watch Maher every week, and I think his show is much better if he has at least one conservative, preferably two. I liked the show with Michael Steele, except that Kerry Washington talked too much and was constantly interrupting. And I wish that he would not have Rosanne on ever again. She's a loser and makes the rest of us look bad. But I do like Andrew ("yawn") Sullivan.

Oredox
"Perhaps he should take on Ann Coulter And Mark Steyn. I fear they would outnumber a mere four liberals."

Ann Coulter used to be on his show pretty regularly a few seasons ago, and they were supposedly friends. Not sure what happened.

I can't imagine any number of people
watch Maher. What are his stats? A million or two million? In the US 300,000,000 people, 2 mill would watch grass grow or dogs scratch.

Last thing of any value....
....Bill Maher did was a film called, "Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death", with Shannon Tweed, and Adrienne Barbeau.

And yes, he played an idiot.

renny
It wouldn't matter if only 3 or 4 people watched, your cable bill will be used to pay his salary.

Since the Liberals control almost all of tv as well as films, it creates a dictorial effect.

That is why we must DEMAND that what we want is all we pay for.==The absolute right to choose YOUR channels.

Obama supports
Since these people support Obama, he must be so proud of their civil discourse!

No way, no how, NObama.

WHAT ABOUT HIS FAVORITES?
Like twinkle toed harlequin Barney Frank, the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee? Since this whole financial fiasco started, no one has seen hide nor hair of this fop anywhere, not just on Mahers' uber liberal pigsty. I mean anywhere.
Or Christopher Dodd, Chairman of the Senate Banking,Housing and Urban Affairs Committee? Except for pictures of him in the newspapers, you haven't heard from him either.
Then there is Sch#uck Schumer. The only time you see him is when he is placing blame for his committees' mistakes and oversights on George Bush.
I agree with the tone of this article about the people on this guys' show. But think about some of his other regulars like the politicians mentioned above. You have not seen any of them.
They get a pass.
We heard about all the change the Democrats were going to make since they gained control of Congress.
We've gotten change allright. In the year and a half they have been in power, gasoline has gone up $2.00 a gallon compared to $1.00 a gallon in the previous five years. The Mortgage Crisis. The Banking Crisis. Now the spreading crisis on Wall Street. All of the commitees overseeing all of this chaired by Democrats.
This is just the beginning. If Obama gets into the White House, the Carter years are going to look like the good old days.

to LD 35
I agree with all the posts. Maher is a moron. These people accuse Republicans of being indecent and they of course are paragons of civility and reason. NOT
And I also agree with LD35, let me pick the channels I want and pay for those.

I like Bill Maher
But you are right---that episode was rather pathetic. Even when I agree with Garofalo I find her annoying. The guests are often so amateurish the premise of the show seems suspect. It can be however quite funny.

The Kid's Table...
...is where these folks continue to belong. Granted, First Amendment rights are very clear: you are allowed to speak as though you are an unbalanced, adolescent idiot, whether the subject be politics, religion, or something of far less gravitas. Whether or not you actually mentally qualify for such a designation is another matter altogether. It is this important distinction that draws my ire as it relates to being married to Tom Arnold as comparable to raising a special needs child.

Now, I've got a fairly well-rounded sense of humor, and I can have my funny bone tickled from virtually all ends of the comedic spectrum. But let's be clear: though Mr. Arnold may, in fact, not be the brightest bulb on the tree (can't say for sure, having never met the man), the comparison of someone's mental and/or physical capacities that has a slate full of average choices, versus someone who is born with a disabling condition that is markedly prohibitive of many of the things that the average among us take for granted is...NOT...FUNNY. Period.

Bill Maher is and continues to be a force for unchecked stupidity.

*click*

Maher is the worst of TV....
This is a despicable little man. It's a sad commentary on the times that he even draws an audience.
He could be as famous and well-liked as Jimmy Durante was, Maher has the nose for it.
But, Jimmy Durante was a nice man and loved by the public. All that can be said about Maher is that his nose was born and he was attached to it.

This is what passes....
....for Intelligent debate according to the left.

Watching Maher's show reminds me of dealing with some of the brain dead trolls here on TH, that find such enjoyment in calling your mother names if you don't agree with them.

If a liberal disagrees with your politics, they can't just agree to disagree, you must be shut down and not given a chance to make your case.

Hitler would be so proud.

Bill Maher
Any conservative who goes on Maher's show deserves to get kicked around as Fund was. He knew what he was in for when he agreed to go on.

Why anyone would add to Maher's ratings by watching him is beyond my comprehension. He is a foul-mouthed vile creature with no sense of shame.

His show is one of the reasons I refused to pay for HBO. He is a disgusting, atheistic socialist and those are his good points.

Bill Maher is a comedian
Ummm not much more to say. He is a comedian. Most Americans are smart enough to see what he says as humor.

many don't find him funny some do. Some also dont see Ann Coulters humor but she is a Comedian also.

Those that take it as truth, and some libs even post things he says as examples on townhall, well they just show how juvenille their thinking is.

He is just a bit more adult version of MAD magazine. Not exactly an unbiased source of journalism or political debate.

Maher? So what?
I can't imagine that anyone with a room temperature intellect watches this show. It's like torturing yourself with Letterman- another show few watch.
Those few times when I have caught Maher on another show (OReilly?- remember?), what struck me most was the same thought I have had about other self-satisfied Hollywood types- Is this what happens to those with a high school diploma and the attention from being a "star"?
WHY does ANYONE pay ANY attention to these morons when it comes to ANYTHING outside Hollywood concerns? They are SHOW PEOPLE- when did they become political "experts"?

What's So Bad About Being Libertine?
I could care less for Bill Maher's socialist views, for sure, but what is so bad about being a libetine? Think of all the nude celebrity websites you could surf without shame, and you never have to worry about being embarrassed for masturbating. It's the secret to longevity, I've been told, and I want to live a long, long time. So I would say, "Long live the libertines!" because they certainly know how to live without breaking the law.

What about a repressed wannabe libertine
Sorry 7sticks, your fantasy could not include a Bill Maher in it. He is a railbird cynical former comedian who lost his sense of humor when he sold his soul for a tv show. He couldn't fit your definition of a libertine if he had a crash course with Andy Dick or some other hedonist. He would however likely enjoy observing then commenting derogatorily upon your manhood. Then draw other cynical formerly humorous people to sneer at you while laughing at your embarrassment. Edgy humor requires angst and frustration in the producer of it. Too bad it usually ends up eating the person's psyche to the point we see so often in the has beens on his show or the ones who simply commit suicide. Bill Maher appears to be too afraid to follow through with either course.Janeane Garofalo was funny once.Once.

MAHER'S DRY CORNCOB = PAIN
Billy Maher is one of the more immature pseudo-entertainers on the airwaves. He's angry, just like feminists are always angry. The rough, dry corncob that Maher has up his rectum causes much of his pain and makes him look grouchy. For the most part, however, he is angry and grouchy because he cannot fathom why liberal ideas are so vapid and conservative ones are so good. He hasn't a clue. The poor guy will go to his grave angry and grouchy--and sore, too. God bless him.

Mixed nuts...........
..........if Palin is a "Category 5 moron" as Bill put it, that would make him an EF5 IDIOT. Save that Keith Olbercrackhead, there is probably no fouler wind on TV.

Garafalo, bless your heart, you are a shrill, no talent scuzbag.

Rushdie, I thought you were in hiding?

Rosanne WHO?!?

Classic examples of "just because you are famous, it doesn't mean you are smart".

Garofalo the Buffalo...
"Garofalo said that Democrats are fundamentally more decent than Republicans"

I was once a Democrat and I can tell you this is categorically untrue. Democrats are fundamentally more depraved.

Estrada Knocks Maher’s Lights Out!
The only time I ever enjoyed watching Bill Maher on TV was the time that Erik Estrada punched him so hard that Maher was literally splayed out on the floor.

That’s the way I like to see the talentless toad.

Bill Maher is a Lowlife Punk
Bill Maher reminds me of the High school kid who runs around mouthing off to gain acceptance from the "in crowd". He gets the nod from the crowd and he Feels good about himself, and this emboldens him to crow even louder...

Bill Maher
Maher must be on HBO because he has pictures of some HBO bigwig in flagrant delecto with a goat. Nothing else explains it. Mayer isn't very bright and he isn't very funny.
Garofalo apparently doesn't have any career saving photos, so she just wangles appearances on the "old scumbags of mutual friends" gambit. Untalented is about the kindest thing one can say about Garofalo.
And Rosie "The Cow" Barr. She at least can be funny as the dickens, when she sticks to her somewhat narrow area of comedic reference. Unfortunately Rosie thinks funny and intellectual are the same thing, just as she evidently thinks fat & fetching are the same thing as well.
As WAY Down South commented, Erik Estrada has been the only "high light" show that Maher can truthfully make any claim of and that for getting his can kicked.
Bill Maher is to comedy & political discourse what cowflop is to a Kobe beef steer. Fit only for use as fertilizer.

D. Cleveland

I wish Scooter were right!!!
The sad fact is that failure is a major liberal resume enhancer. Look at the adoration of Jimmy Carter. Look at the spate of Hollyweird films in the Nineties dealing with rainforests (jungles). They all lost as much as they cost or more and they still cranked them out like cheap sausage. Same with all the anti-Iraq war flicks and America bashing movies. They are money pits and the lib-tards keep shovelling more money down those holes. Maher will be propped up by George Soros himself if need be.

Fund in a Knockout!
I watched tht mess and I had the following observations:
1- Garofalo is a miserable person - Even if you agree with her I defy you to stay in a room with her for more then 5 minutes.
2- Roseanne needs medication
3-Salmon Rushdie is wierd and nonsensical
4- Bill Maher is a shallow person who is very empty inside. He should be pitied.
5 - Fund clearly looked like the only one with a brain, sense of humor and aclear argument.
At the beginning of the show I remember thinking - who is this "Conservative Bafoon" they put up as the punching bag. By the end of the show I felt he easily beat all four of them, looked like he was having fun doing it and came across as the only adult in the room. I immediately looked him up on the internet and began to read his columns.

After watching this show it is clear why Republicans always win.

sdeakins...
"Garofalo said that Democrats are fundamentally more decent than Republicans"

I was once a Democrat and I can tell you this is categorically untrue. Democrats are fundamentally more depraved.

sdeakins, you left out violent,stingy,selfish,egocentric,narrow-minded,condescending, unethical and dour. Liberal comedian should be an oxymoron like "jumbo shrimp".

Bill Maher
This show "jumped the shark" years ago and Maher stopped being a comedian and has become a hate spewing hack. He surrounds himself with Stepford liberals, none of whom know how to have civil discourse and honest debate. Any fair minded guest who dares speak the truth is beaten to a bloody pulp as the ignorant crowd cheers.

Too bad he cleared the shark!!!
A starving carcharadon carcharia would love some "idiot tartare"!!

Mental and Physical Midget
I watch this Klown on the re-runs, so as not to even give him one more viewer during his prime time run. I'm still in disbelief that he has a job after being fired from his ABC gig "Politically Incorrect" for saying the 19 hijackers were heroes..

I watched and listened to him degrade Sarah Palin with the moron comment, and it's typical of someone who can't string together two cogent thoughts to break out the name calling. Empirical reasoning is not this dwarf's forte. He's a far left wing parrot. His self awarded cachet comes from his assertions of being an "on the edge Pot smoker". There's 40 million tokers, Maher, you're not unique, you're not edgy, and you're of really limited intelligence. His arguments are as thin as his thinning mane, and his misogynistic and racist comments are typical for a true American leftist. He isn't fit to argue with, as he usually has no real argument.

If any of you on this thread can stomach watching this episode(maybe it's on the internet somewhere)watch Jeanine Garofalo go through a complete mental breakdown by the show's end. She reminded me of my three year old niece who looks devastated after being told she can't buy that toy because she already has it. This "woman" is an ignorant little girl with no political or historical knowledge whatsoever. Her mouth is a self contained septic system.

In ending my little rant, just an observation of these unhinged lunatics on the far left. I'm not a psychologist, but have a passing interest in wanting to know why people think the way they do. The ones on the far left fringe like Maher, Garofalo, et. al. have all had major "daddy" issues. Guarantee Maher's dad used a belt on him a little more than the average kid.

Lori
You said it perfectly.

Maher and his ilk are the death of decency and part of the continual dumbing down of America.

Waah!

Bill Maher is FUNNY!

Can anyone name any funny conservatives?

Larry the cable guy?

Anyone?

Why?
Why was a neat guy like John Fund on Bill Maher's show? Fund is way too smart to appear on the infantile program and he should have known what insane and illogical guests would be on Maher's show(it doesn't matter the names, the irrational haters on Maher's show are all the same - cookie cutter nut jobs). I'm disappointed in John Fund..

Shelly the real face of the left
Shelly is the scary reality of liberals in America. She says what they really want - no due process - go straight to the hanging of anyone the left does not agree with. This is what we face if Obama is elected. This is what the 'kind, loving, tolerant left want - you dead for your beliefst that they done't like' Wake up America.

Funny Conservatives
Why does anyone on the right need to be a comic? Conservatives are the grown ups that realize the government is not your mommy. I'm a conservative leaning neo-Libertarian and I find nothing funny about losing my freedom to socialist programs designed to control the American population from cradle to grave..Liberty is no joke

heavydoug
you're just making a fool of yourself. Well, you are already a fool and now you are just proving it everyone. Read some books by conservative writers ,know the truth and it will set you free.

Maher is a Category 5 Turd
The subject says it all. Maher is not funny, mean spirited, and with that humongous nose of his, ugly as sin. Why does anybody pay attention to him?

Conservatives vs liberals
Conservatives use objective reasoning without going by what someone else says, far-left liberals such as Maher, Garafalo and O'Donnell have a pack mentality, they go with emotions rather than with common sense.

Do not go too extreme
The reason that a Conservative MUST go on that show is to stand up for Conservatism, and intelegent decissions. Lib's act on emotion. *If it feels good, it IS good.
Conservatives have to think beyond our gonads and weary bodies and minds, and try to see beyond the moment to plan for the future and what makes sence.
If there was no Conservative to go on that show occasionally, then SOME of those who watch the show would never be exposed to any other school of thought...

PALIN'S WITCH-HUNTER PASTOR: LOOK OUT!!!

hahahaha.....as IF America is going to be distracted by the current auto da fe previously known as the McCain campaign!

Like some bad fundie indoctrination skit, there's Pinnochio, with the men layin' hands on her, a-hopin' and a-wishin'. Until now, America has been too unaware of the Alaska Witch Problem (c).

WELL! You can dang well be sure Mrs. Pinnochhio is a-gonna be gittin' sum earmarks to address THAT little challenge, eh, wink, wink??? I mean, she was so good at eBay sellin' and bridge switchin' and hypocritically using our tax dollars, and lying about it, that I'm QUITE CERTAIN that she'll finagle some earmarks for this URGENT PROBLEM.

Hey, I'll even betcha she hires her pastor Muthee (i can't make this stuff up!! muthee! muthee! muthee!!!) on a Special Governor's Contract (tm) to "rid Alaska of witches" plus, securing the 200% of the Alaska oil that feeds the world....

What a load!!

WITCHES!!!

hahahahahah....no, go on, diss Maher, I'm sure he's all a-quiver. It's you and your ilk that support your ayatollah's fatwas with your superstitions.

.

Why do conservatives waste their time
going on shows like this? They have to realize that the vast majoritity of the fools who watch are not actually open to anything not in the liberal playbook. The possibility of having any of the viewing audience believe something a conservative says is miniscule compared to the fact that the conservative will be the whipping boy for Mahre and his herd of jackals.

It's more a case of "lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas."

Daniel is that Crack you are smoking?
Man your mind is twisted, you must be the by-product of two Marin county Hippies, who met in Frisco during the Drug induced age of Liberal High culture, better known as the 1960's. Get some help, its out there...

PASTOR MUTHEE LAYS HANDS ON ROBERT

hahahahah.....goodness, roberto, may i call you roberto? sure i may...

listen, i'm down if you want to hang with the witch hunters! Man, it must be like that Dog bounty hunter guy, huh? But what ABOUT the laying on of hands, eh?

Bet you'd like to "lay hands" on some things, eh Roberto? Like, your "friend" in East L.A., eh, roberto?

hahahahahaha.....

Worst Thing About Maher
The worst thing about Maher is that he calls himself a libertarian. He's a socialist, not a libertarian. If that doesn't prove his ignorance, nothing does.

heavydoug: Dennis Miller -- funny AND smart. Maher couldn't complete a logical syllogism if I spotted him the major premise and the conclusion.

Bill Steigerwald- Who is he?
Yes, in this column, Bill Steigerwald made some feeble attempts to come down on this Maher spectacle, but he is typical of supposedly middle of the road "conservatives" who are quite willing to tar George W. Bush and even Sarah Palin for failures during this important election. Now, in these days when we are facing the disaster of an Obama presidency, Townhall does not need people like Steigerwald to be "damning George W. Bush and Sarah Palin with faint praise". Why couldn't he be satisfied with pointing out the idiocy of Maher and his "guests" (sans John Fund), without the negative references to Bush and Palin? Did Steigerwald owe the Democrats something?

the worst thing about libs on TV
is no one watches them - which is bad for them and which make me smile. I find that humorous all by itself!

They are so obviously phoney, misinformed, and prone to using their populist/socialist Huey P. Long "chicken in every pot" speils disguised as "humor" that well, no one watches.

Or listens. Who gives a rat's a43 on Main St. what Roseanne has to say? Or Clooney. Or Sarandon.

What most of these folks have in common is a lack of work. And a desire to go and do anything to get their faces on the tube.

It's self promotion by any other name, and indicative to anyone on Main St. what a selfish lot they are and why they do not matter.

McCain is going to crush Nobama no matter the lib pundits do on the screen or in the media. I feel a Dukakis-type thrashing coming on

Maher and daniel.......
both are about as funny as swine flatulence!

daniels drivel for the day......
and your point is¿ Gov Palin is more woman than you are man. She is to be your VP. Can you smell that smell?

a liberal agrees
I am a Democrat and often agree with Maher's political opinions but I can't stand watching his show. He is the liberal equivalent of Ann Coulter in that a lot of people on his political side find him funny and insightful but in reality he is neither. Also, just like with Coulter, most of the people on his political side refuse to call him out on his idiotic ideas of humor and commentary. His idea of political commentary is embarrassing and not useful in any meaningful way.

Jeanean Garofolo (she's not worth looking up the proper spelling of her name) should also never be allowed to talk about politics. I'm sure I agree with her most of the time but she has dreadful debate skills and frankly doesn't seem to know enough about the issues to provide any nuance to the discussions. I actually saw the episode that this column is about (the show is watched by my roommate) and found it dreadful. The only person that came out looking good was Rushdie and possibly the conservative though he did not present much in the way of compelling arguments. I won't even comment on the embarrassment of Roseanne's segment, which is a shame because her sitcom was brilliant.

JOHN STEWART: GOD OR SAVIOR?

Yeah, Maher has slipped, a lot. His old show was better.

But The Daily Show rocks!

Hey, did you see McCain on Couric? On Letterman????

wow....

conservatives and liberals

"Conservatives use objective reasoning without going by what someone else says, far-left liberals such as Maher, Garafalo and O'Donnell have a pack mentality, they go with emotions rather than with common sense."

There are plenty of liberals that use objective reasoning and there are plenty of conservatives that have a pack mentality and go strictly with emotions. Until we all agree to listen to those on both sides that use reasoning and ignore the crazies on both sides, little can really be accomplished. It's sad but true. By the way, the above statement by AFVet is an example of following a pack mentality.

And you're doggin' Garofalo??? HA!

Hey, at least these COMEDIANS aren't running for President, right? And they aren't "laying hands" on people, or witch-hunting, right?

Well...maybe witch-huntin' will catch on, eh? Hey, maybe an Olympic sport, right?

"Yes, in this column, Bill Steigerwald made some feeble attempts to come down on this Maher spectacle, but he is typical of supposedly middle of the road "conservatives" who are quite willing to tar George W. Did Steigerwald owe the Democrats something?"

I get where you're coming from on this. I look at it another way. If your side (or my side) really wants to win votes, I prefer it to be done by actually being objective about both sides of our political divide. If I was an undecided voter, I would take an objective pundit (which is different from a wishy-washy pundit) much more seriously than someone like Ann Coulter or Bill Maher. Even knowing who I am voting for, I prefer reading intelligent nuanced writing. I will take a George Will over an Ann Coulter or Bill Maher anyday.

HERE, HERE, CA!

I agree.

I hate to love Brooks. As a staunch librul, Brooks has been, almost, the only essayist to actually make me think from a republican position. I find in him, and a few others, a nuance that is sadly missing from the discourse.

And he delivers his slaps in ways that are instantly recognizable as valid. I take my lumps, I hope.

Maher the libertarian
Hey, man, like, ya know, the libster, uh, the librtoo, uh, like, those dudes want to (sucking sound) want to like, legalize this stuff, dig?

Yeah, I can guess why Maher would call himself a libertarian.

daniel-go live in cuba!!!!

DONT LET YOUR KIDS GROW UP LIKE BILL MAHER!NO REALITY WITH BILL!HE IS THE BAD CIRCUS!

MIKEY MELTDOWN: ANTI-AMERICAN RANT...

tsk, tsk.

Look, Mikey, chill a little, ok dude? I know the whole god-caused hurricanes have twisted your medulla oblongata a bit, but you can do better than that, man. "Go live in Cuba"??? Um, no thanks. Do you have family in Cuba, is that it?

As a proud American, I know that one day, Fidel will die, and we'll be able to FINALLY resume some measure of normalcy between our peoples. I look forward to visiting Cuba.

Hey, Mikey, maybe we'll go together, eh? A nice cerveza, some son musica, dusky girls dancing...aieeee!

A lot of people across the spectrum think marijuana should be leaglized. I can see that argument being persuasively made from conservative, libertarian, and liberal perspectives.

Perhaps, but one effect of using it a little too much is it starts to make people think they are getting really smart and clever even as they get dumber and dumber. I watched Maher as a guest on another show, all I saw was someone who clearly thought he was of the superior intellect, but gave no real reason to support such a belief other than his own inflated opinion of himself.

Explains a lot about some of the Hollywierd types, don't ya think?

WAR ON DRUGS FAILURE: BILL BUCKLEY

Don't look at me: he's YOUR icon.

Buckley realized, belatedly, but still, that our insane "war on drugs" is a loser. You can look it up, if you're not too, you know...

Remove the criminality and you remove the money incentive. Imagine THAT as a policy!

Anyone remember Prohibition? How'd that work out? Anyone? anyone?

Or, for another clear illustration of my point, see Daniel's posts above.

Absolutely. I don't think that is a legitimate argument to keep it illegal, however. Or maybe I mean I don't think the fact that it can do harm to individuals negates the valid arguments of those that want to decriminalize pot.

WAR ON DRUGS IS LOST: NATIONAL REVIEW

http://www.nationalreview.com/12feb96/drug.html

"I have not spoken of the cost to our society of the astonishing legal weapons available now to policemen and prosecutors; of the penalty of forfeiture of one's home and property for violation of laws which, though designed to advance the war against drugs, could legally be used -- I am told by learned counsel -- as penalties for the neglect of one's pets. I leave it at this, that it is outrageous to live in a society whose laws tolerate sending young people to life in prison because they grew, or distributed, a dozen ounces of marijuana. I would hope that the good offices of your vital profession would mobilize at least to protest such excesses of wartime zeal, the legal equivalent of a My Lai massacre. And perhaps proceed to recommend the legalization of the sale of most drugs, except to minors."

I don't believe I ever said I think it should be illegal. What I said is that it might explain some of the goofy statements and behavior that comes out of Hollywierd, where people have been known to nip at the forbidden fruit a little to liberally. The example I'm thinking of right this second is Cheryl "one square of TP" Crow, hahah.

THANK GOD DRUG USE IS ONLY IN HOLLYWOOD.

right?

Yeah, out there in...Seattle, there's ZERO drug use, thank jesus! Yep, I saw a survey that said that drug use is ONLY in librul Hollywood and Godless New Yawk. Dang. And we've worked SO hard to get it into every kindergarten in Washington State.

tsk. faux chuckles

But I DID wonder what the heck was the deal with conservatism: virus? congenital? I found out:

Politically conservative agendas may range from supporting the Vietnam War to upholding traditional moral and religious values to opposing welfare. But are there consistent underlying motivations?

Four researchers who culled through 50 years of research literature about the psychology of conservatism report that at the core of political conservatism is the resistance to change and a tolerance for inequality, and that some of the common psychological factors linked to political conservatism include:

* Fear and aggression
* Dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity
* Uncertainty avoidance
* Need for cognitive closure
* Terror management

"From our perspective, these psychological factors are capable of contributing to the adoption of conservative ideological contents, either independently or in combination," the researchers wrote in an article, "Political Conservatism as Motivated Social Cognition," recently published in the American Psychological Association's Psychological Bulletin.

Legalizing Drugs:
At one time drugs were legal. And things got nasty. Families were being wrecked, crime was up, and people were dying all over the place despite the cheap price. It was decided to stop things so the drugs were made illegal. Immediately people began to sell them - and J. Edgar Hoover got involved.

They broke the drug business. But it took harsh sentencing. A drug dealer got at least 20 years (when it meant 20 years) breaking rock. IF he lived to get out he didn't even consider doing it again and he made sure his family members didn't either. By the end of the '20s there was very little drug use.

Now we have gone back the other way. Legalizing drugs will NOT eliminate crime and WILL cause family problems and deaths. So why go back to what it was? It makes more sense to me to simply start 20 years on the rock pile again.

Mmmmm, don't freak out, mate.
