Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

As a social conservative who watched with great interest as the Republican primary process wound down to it’s presumptive nominee, I am dumfounded at the number opportunities missed by the McCain campaign to shore up a significant and essential part of the GOP base. I am supporter of the senator and understand fully how he must convince large numbers of centrist voters to break his way in November. But he cannot win without the base. I’ve seen a disturbing plan (or perhaps the absence of a plan) that has been most clearly evidenced after Gov. Mike Huckabee conceded defeat.

John McCain missed his golden opportunity to shore up the GOP base while Hillary and Obama spent months fighting it out. For weeks on end the McCain campaign could have reached out to the evangelical and church-going GOP faithful. Instead, they chose instead to ignore them. Meeting with key faith leaders and hitting the Christian radio and TV circuit would have been a strategic use of McCain’s schedule. Even as Obama is meeting with key religious leaders, it seems the McCain campaign still doesn’t see the slightest need to do the same.

Moving to the middle is always expected in a general election, but with McCain’s support still tepid among the base, one would have thought he would have embraced social conservatives and Huckabee supporters at the same time as he was cultivating the middle. Instead, the campaign has acted thus far like social conservatives have contracted the plague.

What’s the explanation?—an overreaction to Rev. Jeremiah Wright and John Hagee? Or do they think that evangelicals have nowhere to go and trust they’ll just show up on Election Day? Tell that to Sen. Obama who believes there’s an opportunity in the waiting among some evangelicals and is going to work it with massive neighborhood meetings.

Let’s take a moment to remind ourselves just how important this segment of his base really represents. In October 2006 Scott Keeter with the independent Pew Research Center wrote about their recent polling:

White evangelical Protestants have become one of the most important parts of the Republican Party’s electoral base, making up over one-third of those who identify with the GOP and vote for its candidates. The party’s political fortunes depend, in large part, on retaining the solid support of the evangelical community. But evangelicals, like other voters, have been affected by the broader wave of voter disillusionment with President Bush and the Republican Party. Evangelicals remain the party’s most supportive group, but at levels significantly diminished from where they were in the 2002 and 2004 elections.

Keeter goes on to report that:

While there has been no significant change in party affiliation this year (2006), there are other signs of evangelical frustration with the party. The number of evangelicals who have a favorable opinion of the GOP stood at 74 percent in the aftermath of the 2004 election. But it dropped to 54 percent last fall in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, before recovering to 63 percent earlier in 2006. By July of this year, however, it had declined to 54 percent, as the party’s image with the public overall dimmed to 40 percent favorable.

And guess what? Much of that sentiment has not changed and some indicators point to further slippage.

But even with the facts established—supporting the notion that evangelicals are a necessary if not sufficient component of success—many northeast and establishment Republicans don’t fully appreciate the importance of social conservatives.

The road to the White House for this party still includes evangelicals and its route still runs through the Deep South, as well as the major battleground states of Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida, California, Colorado and Minnesota. Men and women of faith have been major players in all these states—and they’ve been some of the most dependable grassroots foot soldiers. They need to be rallied.

The missteps are starting to add up.

Mike Huckabee should have been offered a more visible presence with the campaign, especially since he was always very generous with his comments toward McCain during the primary. Just as Governor Giuliani is now point man for the campaign on Homeland Security issues, and Gov. Crist of Florida is a moderate presence never far from a McCain photo op, Mike Huckabee should have been somewhere in the mix, maybe as McCain’s point person to social conservatives.

Most recently, the campaign chose not to respond to invitations by Pat Robertson to appear on his “700 Club”. Obama accepted and had two days of nationwide media coverage directly into the homes of hundreds of thousands of religious conservatives.

In Indianapolis just a few weeks ago, The Southern Baptist Convention—the second largest denomination in America—had their annual convention and Senator McCain chose not to address that gathering either.

At this point I attribute the blame to senior staff and not the senator. But at some point the burden of responsibility will shift to the candidate himself.

Missed opportunities are adding up. Clearly it’s time for some immediate changes. I believe Senator McCain can and should be a leader of all the people (including evangelicals). The Democratic machine and mainstream media will continue to press Obama’s advantage by applying pressure on McCain to distance himself from evangelicals. But, if McCain wants to win in November, it’s time he personally evaluate the decisions of his staffers and begin to push back the left on the faith issue and spend a little time energizing the GOP’s best grassroots army.

In the end, the base does have a choice. On November 4, they can elect to stay home.

Juan McAmnesty
A vote for John McCain is as dangerous as a vote for B. Hussein - both will continue to take this country down the road to socialism.

There is a MOVEMENT OUT THERE by anti-illegal immigration organizations to VOTE FOR CHUCK BALDWIN who is running in the Constituion party. McCain doesn't get it - 80% of the American citizens want illegals out - but McCain still panders to LaRaza and other pro-illegal organizations. Why? I agree with one writer above who said we should throw McCain out at the convention and get someone in who respects our laws, closes our borders. Problem is we have so many people on the welfare rolls who want even more they will vote for Obama - the illegals will illegally vote for McCain (and B. Hussein). We elected, in Washington State, a Governor, - on a third ballot count by 139 votes - the dead, the prisoners, double voting all voted for this woman and the Republicans didn't have the guts enough to stop it! Any one of the other candidates would have been a better choice than McCain!

Wrong questions Tom
The question is Who will fight for the causes of fiscal responsibility and our liberties?

Please hurry.

Mellor,
You're so worried aabout the +ians, but do you really think Arlen Specter, Nelson Rockefeller(in his day), Susan Collins, Chuck Hagel, Chris Cannon, Denny Hastert, Gov. Arnold, Bob Michel, and their ilk were/are in there scrapping with the Dems, going at it tooth and tong, standing up for Republican interests and pushing back against the Socialism of the dems?

How many Dem programs were blocked and stopped by the efforts of any of these guys? And by the way, how many of these Republicans are the kind of +ians who make you so angry?

Juan mccain will climb the la raza (FOR THE RACE, ALL, FOR THE GRINGO, NADA) pyramid to get a few thousand illegals to vote for him as he loses hundreds of thousands of conservative voters.
promises of citizenship to people that must repeatedly break laws in the u.s. is a bizarre way to protect this country.

Black Arm Band on Election Day
I will wear a black arm band on election day. I will be in mourning for the Constitution and the country it once protected.

Advice for Republicans: Evolution is a fact, not a theory. Either you will grow spines or you will become extinct.

Stop voting for wishy-washy, me-too candidates and then moaning about how they betrayed you. Face Obama head on and defeat him. He's an empty suit filled only with Marxist platitudes. If you can't beat him, you don't deserve freedom.

Since the relationship of Republicans to courage is what it is, you know why I'll be wearing a black arm band on Nov 4.

Bob: McCain is Worse
The reason that McCain is more dangerous than Obama should be obvious:

If Obama pushes cap and trade the Republicans will oppose him. If McCain proposes it (and he supports this lunatic idea to the hilt) WHO will oppose it? The Democrats? The Republicans?

Who put in the dumbest, most destructive laws?

Endangered Species Act - Richard Nixon
DDT Ban - Nixon/Ford
Americans with Disabilities Act - G.H.W. Bush
Prescription Drugs for Seniors - G.W. Bush
No Child Left Behind - G.W. Bush

Are you starting to see a pattern here, Bob?

Clinton lowered the federal budget as a proportion of the GDP (20% to 18%). Why? Because he believed in small government? Or because the Republicans fought him?

The Republicans might fight Obama socialist madness (if they don't their successor party will), but they can't fight McCain's semi-socialist madness.

Republican Convention
Lets get together and dethrone McCain at the convention. I can not for the life of me see how he got so many votes when there were so many GREAT candidates running against McCain. I even think his wife would be better that he is.

If there is a chance to nominate somebody else, lets do it. I don't know much about conventions, but I'm sure some of these readers will know how to do just that.

As of right now I think Obama will win by a landslide.

Christans
I am in the evangelical camp, but will not vote to encourage either of these men. A vote for McCain is not a vote for conservatism, but a vote for a new face and a new mission for the Republican Party. McCain has said he will appoint Democrats to his cabinet. That'll do wonders for the future of my children. The Republicans need a convention that sends McCain packing. And yes, I am hearing of more and more Christians lining up with Obama. Why not? He at least talks to them.

McCain as only choice an embarrasment
It should be somewhat embarrassing to an honorable man like Sen. McCain that a vast number of conservative Republicans and evangelicals will most likely vote for him, but only because they feel like they have no other viable choice. How distasteful. Engendering partnerships and respect of the citizenry should be part of his goal in seeking office.

Gasset blows a gasket

And it's hilarious, as usual!

Dude, you can have your party, you pathetic lunatic.

Haven't you been reading my posts?

I want nothing to do with it.

McCain = Loser
Hanoi Johnny McAmnesty went to visit the La Raza crowd for a pander-fest to sell out this Republic one more time got heckled for his efforts. What does THAT tell you about the "oh so in play" Hispanic vote? Johnny would betray his country in order to court Hispanics and even THEY reject this RINO reject! It is truly amazing. McCain would sell us out (like Hanoi Johnny did his fellow fliers by trading info to the enemy to better shoot them down in return for medical treatment and a comfy internment) to pander to the open borders crowd. Heck of a job, Johnny! We'd all be better off if you had been a real hero and spit in the eyes of your captors instead of selling out your own -- over and over and over again.

Nice logic, Island
"A vote for McCain is a vote for Obama." I'll be sure to let the various electoral commissions know.

Listen up, morons: The election is now between Obama and McCain. You may hate McCain, but Obama is worse (unless McCain chooses a nutter like Chucklebee as VP). Get a grip, and vote accordingly.

Can I be the president?

Clue: You mistook an N for a R ... you frigin' Nazi. Get out of my party! We don't want or need your ugly purist version of conservativism. You retards are every bit the threat to our nation as the limp Left. You're both ideological Jihadis that don't give a damn about anything, but power.

Apollo
The Republicans had the House, the Senate and the Presidency and we lost "our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor". What's left to lose?
Look in the mirror, you and I are the idiots who sent those Wing Nuts to Washington. So don't complain.
What is it with you morons, just because McCain is not perfect you are not going to vote at all or vote for Obama.
The Christian Right in comparison with the Marxist Socialist Secular Progressive fanatic Left are whimps.
If McCain does not get elected make sure the Reps you send to Washington represent what you stand for.

A BITE ON THE BUTT
I am finding rhetoric such as this more than amusing, I find it ironic and fitting, "Dumbfounded by McCain tactics". Why?

They, the RINO's are the people who have caused the biggest setback in the history of the Republican Party, we have little control in the house or Senate and after this election will have none. RINO's are useless fence sitters, almost lib and may as well be democrat people, the RINO's have compromised every Republican principle in the platform. Until these appeasers are removed the party will continue to diminish, all you are seeing at this time is the worthless practice they preach coming back to bite them on the butt. So be it.

Why McCain doesn't court Evangeligals
This is going to upset some...it is not my intent to do that...but it will. Anyway, here's the main reason he doesn't go around the Main Stream Christian leaders in this country is that he, as Obama, has a non-Biblical outlook to Christianity. He doesn't accept the Bible as "the inspired Word of God". He wants to pick and choose the parts to follow. So that brings about many of the disagreements in government that he supports (a lot more like democrats than republican values). So when he is around main stream Christian leaders there will be a more vocal disagreement on issues...highlighting even more differences than what is known now. Here is the odd thing about it...when Obama does meet with main stream Christian leaders...they are afraid to confront him on issues like abortion, homosexual sin, smaller government, etc. So he gets a free ride from them...and McCain doesn't.

I agree, Ken

McCain's alphabetically challenged.

He mistook an (R) for a (D).

McCain IS a Democrat
It is obvious to me that Juan McAmnesty IS a democrat and his mission is to complete the destruction of the republican party started by George Bush. Like the Saudi's who fund terrorists to destroy this country using our own dollars that we send them for oil, the CFR is using a democrat to get republican dollars to destroy the party. Geesh, remember the trojan horse?

Won't these pious hucksters get real?
McCain is only tepidly Christian at all, let alone evangelical. He has no deep church links. It would be ludicrous for the old goat to come over all pious with Dobson, Hagee and the like at this point, with Cindy the Painkiller Thief at his side.

Besides, this election is going to be about war, foreign policy and economics, not all that stuff the Bible-bashers think the rest of us should be fired up about: Intelligent Design, Ten Commandments on courtroom walls, gay marriage, abortion.

These are not party-political matters and POTUS has little influence over what happens about them, compared with the states and SCOTUS.

They were fun to use as a stick to beat Bill Clinton with back in the day, but the USA is in a lot worse condition now. it's time to be serious about getting an spending, fighting and making peace, not-- a passel of Holy Roller obsessions.

From Bill Buckley to Bill Bunkley, American conservatism sure has dumbed down.

MCAMNESTY SLICK TALKS LIBERALS--DUMP HIM
McAmnesty just met with Clinton supporters, (another liberal group he panders to that will NEVER vote for him), and told them how PROUD he is of having voted for Ginsberg and Breyer, two of the four activist judges that just voted to take our guns away, making people against judicial activism cringe. At the Michigan primary, his position on economically-stressed Reagan Democrats was "let them eat cake"--real coalition building! He has told conservative Republicans and rule of law Independents like me concerned about the unconstitutional illegal alien invasion to "go F yourselves, my friends!" At the time of the New Hampshire primary a reporter asked him why he didn't campaign in Iowa, he said "I don't care if I finish 50th in Iowa" (he opposes our biofuels efforts in order to protect his oil buddies from competition), turning a purple state blue, especially now it turns out "McCostCutter" defeated an appropriation that would have prevented much of the Des Moines flooding. That's OUR money, not yours, lifelong government employee! In sum, he is not just telling evangelicals to go to hell, he is doing it to a wide variety of groups that would be needed to vote Republican. I think they will still vote for down ticket conservatives, but not McAmnesty, the disaster candidate.

Remember that McAmnesty was "nominated" by the liberal establishment media, illegal aliens, and liberal crossovers, not real Republicans. The liberals did that because they thought he was most likely to LOSE! I understand that he does not have enough pledged delegates to get the nomination on the first vote, so there is plenty of time to dump McAmnesty. Talk to your state delegates and convince them not to go down with McAmnesty's last big crash. Bye, bye, Slick Johnny!

Pleased to make your acquaintance...
... Thomas J Gassett. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Re "new Nazi party": I think you'll find the Newspeak-named Constitution party fits that bill.

I think I'll make this my new .sig: "You freaks are hated by the vast majority of americans and that hatred is spread liberally over all republicans. Get out. Go start the new Nazi party, and leave us alone!"

What's wrong with the RINO?
Yeah, why isn't McCain trying to kiss the ring of his attackers? Why won't he embrace the lunatic right and their ideological burka?

Me thinks the self professed base (what a laugh, considering the base nominated McCain) protest too much. Maybe they are afraid McCain will win without them, and they will lose their disproportionate strangle hold on the party? Or maybe they are afraid he'll lose and they will get blamed for it, and once again their power over the party is lost forever?

Seriously, I so sick of you haters and what you've done to my party, I don't care if we win or lose ... as long as the Lunatic Right get's kicked out of my party!

We republicans will never forget the backstabbing, hateful spew, the RR dumped all over McCain. And now the pompous bastards think they shold be courted by McCAin? Can you say mental disease? You freaks are hated by the vast majority of americans and that hatred is spread liberally over all republicans. Get out. Go start the new Nazi party, and leave us alone!

mccais moment
was when he was released form captivity. since than it has been all down hill. especially in this election. when does he plan to start camopaigning. obama has sat on his butt essentially for the last 3 weeks and mccain keeps falling further and further behind in the polls. perhaps that is obamas strategy. whatever both are doing, one is winning and boy is the other one losing,

The sooner the xians are marginalized...
...the better.

If the price of winning is having a nutcase like Huckabee on the ticket (and even becoming president!), then McCain is better off losing.

If the price of support in the south is pandering to the xians, then McCain is better off losing.

If McCain makes anything than an empty promise (but how will we know?) to the xians, then it's better he lose.

We NEED a conservative party that believes in freedom and free markets. Right now the 'pubs believe in neither. With McCain in, and the xians out, it might just be possible to take the country back.

He Who Lives By the Ax
Eight years ago the evangelicals decided they would control the Republican Party and if the liberty wing didn't like it, who cares? What could they do? Vote for the Democrats?

Well now, it's being done to you. You are being shoved aside just as we were. ROTFLMAO. You wanted to ax us from the party now you have been axed. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of jerks.

Here's how it ends for the Republican Party: They have nominated a Democrat in order to defeat a farther left Democrat. It's been tried before in the old USSR. Socialist Kerensky couldn't stop Communist Lenin. McCain won't stop Obama. Don't think about 2010, there won't even be a Republican Party in 2010.

Republicans - The party of cap and trade, condemning businessmen, cursing profits and never drilling for oil (McCain turning it over to the states fooled no one).

All this blog needs is Michael Medved to screech "This is a two party system and you have to stay in the Republican party if you want to win. You can't do anything if you lose". The Republicans had the House, the Senate and the Presidency and we lost "our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor". What's left to lose?

Slow learners
It mystifies me that people are surprised at this McCain behavior. This is the guy whose previous campaign in Michigan was run by John Schwartz, a so-called Republican who has an intense dislike of conservatives. There's a reason why people like Schwartz and McCain pair up.

I'm not even an Evangelical
but I feel McC is tossing my vote aside. I do vote Republican, and will certainly do so this time; but it isn't because he has "appealed" to me.

He could do himself and the country some good by tossing in a remark in his speeches to the effect that he will need the help of a House and Senate in Republican hands to implement his programs (whatever they are, other than drilling offshore, for which thank goodness).

Obama really is awful; and if he has a real majority in both Houses, heaven help us all. But no Democrat voter wants to hear that, so they don't. Those Hillary voters are going to be worked mighty hard with ol' debbil Right to Life waved in front of their faces, and pretty soon they'll be back in the fold.

Bad as BHO is, McC probably cannot win by simply pointing out all the things about him that are rotten to the core. More and more BHO shows himself less and less "different."

McC, like so many Republicans, is more worried about what "they" will think if he hangs out with Evangelicals than he is about counting votes. Of course, having a MSM that equates Rev. Hagee with Rev. Wright makes him all the more gunshy.

Has McC divested himself of Juan ... Valdez or whatever that smarmy double-citizenship slime is who handles his Hispanic Outreach? No, because only conservative Republicans are outraged by his being on the staff.

If only it looked like he actually has some ideas for the good of the country that he would work hard to implement. If only it appeared thaat he would work hard with other Repubs.

I worked the polls in '64. I'm an election judge now. It isn't going to be any more fun this time than it was then unless the American people, half of whom can't read and only know who's competing on American Idol, wake up to what a colossal mistake it would be to elect O.

His Base? I don't need no stinkin' base
1. Doesn't want conservatives.
2. Doesn't want evangelicals.

Obama is planning to take young evangelicals and warm fuzzy them all into his camp. He is starting 2 grassroots organizations to go after the young evangelicals in a mad rush.
Watch for his two organizations in your area:
1. Joshua Generation
2. Matthew 25

What's McCain doing to keep the Evangelicals?
Nothing. Nada. Nil...Zero

We already know he doesn't give two hoots about the conservatives. He's betting on HRC's voters and moderate/independents to get him elected.

He's a fool.

What a hoot!

It's perfectly clear McCain despises conservatives; he's made no bones about it.

We despise him back, and that shouldn't surprise anybody.

Further, you have to wonder about the strategic planning capabilities of a guy who bases almost his entire campaign on his military acumen, if he can't even figure out the simple math involved in what it would take for him to have a chance of winning this election.

The column really tells it: his support among conservatives is falling through the floor, and in an era when a few hundred votes in a few precincts in a couple of states determine the outcome of the election, he's pretty much yesterday's news come November.

Further, in light of the Heller decision, gun owners don't need him at all anymore (not that he was good on the issue anyway). That issue's totally off the table.

Fine with me.

Jeff
I like the lifeboat analogy. Swamp the lifeboat and everyone goes down.

Does this help McCain?

Report: McCain meets with president of Log Cabin Republicans
Does this help McCain?

HOTAIR-Unconfirmed as yet by the campaign, but the LCRs say it’s so:

A source with close ties to the Log Cabin Board of Directors provided information about the meeting to GayPatriot earlier this week. This source disclosed that the Log Cabin meeting was not reflected on Senator McCain’s published schedule in advance and the meeting…

Log Cabin President Patrick Sammon confirmed the meeting with Senator McCain in email correspondence with GayPatriot earlier today…

Based on published news reports, the meeting with Senator McCain would be the first between any national-level gay Republicans and a Republican Presidental nominee since “The Texas 12? met with then-Governor George W. Bush in 2000.

Obamunism
Obama and more Liberal madness
"Obama will create 20 Promise Neighborhoods in cities across the nation that have high levels of poverty and crime and low levels of student academic achievement...to an entire neighborhood from birth to college" Obama Blueprint for Change
------------------------------------------------

Obama is not satisfied that 'collectivism' for the 'common good' has destroyed entire inner cities and entire generations of black youth.

Obama believes that the failure of 'collectivism' (Socialism, Marxism, Nazism etc.) was because he was not in charge.

Over 100,000,000 have been starved to death, murdered and tortured to death by trying to 'help people' for the 'common good'.

Marxist thinkers like Obama think that 'collectivism' will work this time even though it has never worked and will never work because 'collectivism' steals what rightfully belongs to a citizen and gives it to someone else - why work? why be industrious? why be creative about new products and services?

Obama will coerce the individual citizen to participate in his dream at any cost to those who do not wish to participate.

Looking for McCain
McCain has made it clear he doesn't need my conservative vote, so I'm going third party. I won't vote for the lesser of two evils. I won't vote for the man drilling the smallest holes in the lifeboat.

Talking about Criminals
eddie too is purposly missing the point. I have no problem with the nice people who live in Mexico. I have no problem with the citizens of the United State who are of Mexican desent. I don't have a problem with people visiting our country. I have a problem with people breaking the law.

Illegal entry, tax evasion, identity theft, voter fraud, theft, smuggling, drug trafficing, slave trading, terrorist entry. What you find depends on how deep you dig. These are the things you defend when you ignore illegal immigration.

Does this mean Huckabee might be VP?
McCain might have missed some opportunities in the past few months, but we have some good news for the social conservatives now - the Arizona Senator is planning on meeting with Franklin Graham on Sunday. It would seem that he has realized his mistake and is changing his strategy.

Some are speculating that he might continue this movement by choosing Former Governor Mike Huckabee as his VP since he has such a solid relationship with many of the social conservatives and evangelicals.

Right on -
Your article was right on - McCain has missed many opportunities. I read where he was invited to see Billy Graham and missed that one as well. He must get conservatives on board if he has any hope of winning - Huckabee as VP is the best route to that end. If he does not plan to choose him as VP, he should definitely be using him to campaign extensively. Instead he has surrounded himself with old codgers like Kemp, Leiberman, and Graham. Maybe he knows something about Obama none of us know, but I am getting a little impatient to hear the lethal tidbit that is supposed to bury Barack and Michelle. If he has it, I'll be surprised. Regardless, it is time to embrace conservatives - meet with Christian leaders and choose Huckabee as VP.

See, Granny...
I, too, am a "granny" and to me it's all about the Supremes...and I don't mean the singing group. As a "granny," it is important to me that I vote for a president who will nominate conservative judges to the court; judges who will uphold the Constitution, not judges who will make law. That is the job of the Legislature and the Supreme Court has made grave errors in stepping into the law-making part of the process. This is the legacy I want for my grandchildren and that is why I will vote for John McCain. I trust him to nominate conservative judges and I trust him to do his duty to our country. I don't have to agree with everything he does...don't even have to like everything he does...but he has my vote because it's the right thing for a Christian to do. Looking at the voting record of Sen. Obama (both US and state), there is no other choice.

Huckabee can help McCain
Bill is right when he said, "But, if McCain wants to win in November, it’s time he personally evaluate the decisions of his staffers and begin to push back the left on the faith issue and spend a little time energizing the GOP’s best grassroots army." If McCain chooses Huckabee as his VP; there is a very important branch of that grassroots army ready, willing and able.[hucksarmy.com] We will not only vote for McCain, we will also volunteer our time to help persuade others to vote for McCain. If McCain chooses a VP that has not consistently stood for the moral values we hold dear; he's on his own.

VonRyan...
You are so correct in your assessment of Christians, regardless of whether or not they are evangelicals. We do know right from wrong and we do know, from voting history, that Obama represents wrong things for our country. I am more conservative than Sen. McCain, but I, too, think he understands duty and will fulfill his promises to the American people. He isn't telling one group he'll do something for them and then another group he'll do something for them like Sen. Obama is doing. I'm sick of the pandering and politics...just tell us the truth. I like the fact that Sen. McCain was in a depressed area of Ohio speaking to auto workers who had lost their jobs and were just starting to rebound. He didn't pull any punches...told them he has to support NAFTA because it's better for the country to get our goods out there for sale...but he did tell them he will support government tax breaks for the auto makers on getting retrofitted to produce energy efficient, flex-fuel, hybrid vehicles which will be the cars of the future. The Chevy plan has actually added shifts to get production up on the fuel-efficient vehicles. I like the fact that he listens to Americans about drilling here and telling foreign oil to get lost; he listened and changed his position on drilling...a true leader can acknowledge when his position is incorrect for the times and listen to the will of the people he/she is leading. Obama has no plan...at least none that will be effective until 2030. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to wait that long.

As Billy Graham has said,
"Be very careful now." The false voices will seek to lead the faithful astray.

Every election cycle, false voices claiming to be Republicans seek to fracture the cohesion of the many with splinter ideology. They would have us wake on Nov. 5th to the memory of Ross Perot and his electoral outcome; Wm. Jefferson Clinton.

Twenty four years ago it was Mary-Louise Smith with her passion to ideas that were just not Republican. There are always those that would demand we commit hara-kiri so that their limited passions could be our last haiku.

If you're a conservative, a religious traditionalist, one that attends service, then you'll know your duty on Election Day.

The fragmentars, the disingenuous are always among us.

The stakes are so great in this contest between John McCain and Barack Obama for our Country, ...

"Be very careful now."

Fear the Mexicans,

fear the Mexicans, fear the Mexicans, listen to the chant. Why are these people so afraid of the Mexicans?

Faithful Christians will vote Baldwin
Chuck Baldwin of the US Constitution Party is the only candidate for President who is for limited government and will protect our Constitutional rights AND will defend our Borders from invasion. He pledges that he will NOT sign ANY Amnesty bill for the 12 to 20 million illegal invaders.

VA Patriot is right. 12 to 20 million POOR illegals given amnesty and citizenship WILL lead to Democratic RULE for the rest of our lives. No more Conservatives will ever be elected President in our lifetimes.

Either McCain is stupid or he doesn't care.
Either way I cannot in good conscience vote for a Republican who would sign the amnesty DEATH warrant bill ending all hope for future Conservative Republicans to be elected President.

Faithful Christians will not stay home
Rev. Falwell in the 2OOO campaign said that Al Gore didn't have a prayer of a chance of securing the evangelical vote, not even a voluntary one.

Double down on that with Sen. Obama in 08. Evangelicals and Catholic Christians and I'll venture Temple attending Jews will reject the ascension of the Illinois Senator to the White House en masse.

For a devout Christian, to support one whose profile is cut from the cloth of Sen. Obama would be an anathema. Sen. Obama's view of duty to country and view of the individuals role in relation to their fellow man along with his interpretation of scripture is alien to the love of America, respect for the individual and four corners reading of the gospels that guide Christians and Judeo-Christian believers.

There may not be passion for the McCain candidacy among some evangelicals but they know duty and they know that John McCain knows his duty and they will not fail the country any more than they would fail to go to meeting on Sunday morning. A Christian does not turn from the obligation to serve because the service that day requires sacrifice. This is fundamental.

I'd like consideration for John Kasich as Veep with Sen. McCain. Former Congressman Kasich has a stellar resume as to governmental budgeting and spending, his knowledge of U.S. history and the nations foreign policy have been displayed publicly during his eight terms in the House and in the public eye. His warm personality and respect for civility are accompanied by a strong personal ethic and he is from the salient state of Ohio where he remains a man of origin and respect. He could step into the role of Chief Executive if required.

Christians, Jews, all Americans will run to the polls to validate John McCain on Election Day. If John Kasich is on the ticket, they will do so with a smile.

Virginia Pat
Is it me or is there a sudden surge of name-calling RINOs lately?

McCain does not want to be prez
He wants to win the Nobel Peace prize on global warming. If they gave one for open-borders and global government he would be in the running for that too. Don't be surprised if Obama names him defense secretary. Why not? They are both Dems and fight for the same causes.

McCain Needs Huckabee
There is no way McCain will win in November without Mike Huckabee on the ticket. Evangelicals are not robots, we know when our interests and values are ignored, ridiculed or dismissed by the GOP elite. Huckabee can pull all conservative voters together and rally the troops to fight to win this election. He will appeal to younger voters, moderate Democrats, and value voters who supported his nomination during the primaries. He has a proven record of effective leadership and moral integrity. I hope and pray McCain sees the wisdom and necessity of this decision very quickly.

Democrat Virgina Patriot................
Fortunately for us this is not the American Revolution, but I get your point.
Still take your vote and put it where that sun never shone on. In Obamas camp.

Et tu Bruti, part time GOPers
I get really PO'd by some of the assaults laid on McCain. I at least waited for ol GW to put his foot in his mouth twice, before telling everyone I told you so.
Bill is right though, for McCain to be the next POTUS, he will not only have to sway a number of the Democrat fringe voters, but a very vast majority of you anti-McCain GOP voters.
Maybe he feels, his honour is not up for sale?
Maybe fe thinks it will all pass, and on election day the true GOP supporters will put him over. I do not know, but from the way many of you speak here.
He is in a battle far tougher than six years in a NVA POW camp.

McCain staffers better read this piece
But I doubt so. Even if they read, they are to arrogant to adopt this suggestion. It maybe the case that some of the key staffers on double pay--sabotagers. Who knows. In the era when money rules, everything is possible.

bravo, pat from AZ

Good post, good reasoning and good Republican courage, Pat.

But we waste our time arguing any reason with Virginny Patriot. He's just hidebound; a knee-jerk white supremacist with one thing on his dumb mind: HATE Mexicanns. And his arrogance knows no bounds. This clown actually thinks McCain owes him something. He brags about his ONE vote like it would turn the whole presidential election around! Imagine, McCain has to make him "promises" to earn that stupid vote of his.

Indeed he should go get with the Obama Drama. There's a politician who'll promise him the sun, moon, a little brown jug--anything. Just to get his measley vote! Lol!

nonsense, viginny

You repeat your nonsense every week, hardly changing a cliche.

You should stuff it & keep your almighty exclusive vote.

Fact is it's none of your busineswho McCain employs; or if it's aMexican national. He isn't doing anything illegal. Fact is, a presidential candidate doesn't owe you any pledges or need your conditions to run. Your demands represent ONE voter --yourself. McCain isn't yor puppet. Vote for Obama if it suits you better; I'm voting for McCain.

Virginia Patriot
Do YOU want to keep your country????

Yes, Senator McCain has made some mistakes. But, 'WE THE PEOPLE' as you put it, cannot, I mean CANNOT afford to have Senator Obama in the White House, or don't you see that.

If you are a conservative and you want our borders protected, you will NOT get that with Barack Obama. They will be more open than they were with President Clinton.

If you are a conservative and you are prolife, babies will NOT be protected under a Obama presidency. He voted against the Partial Birth Abortion bill (he obviously doesn't mind killing full-term babies as they are being delivered). McCain is, and always has been, prolife.

If you are a conservative and want gun rights protected, you will not get that with an Obama presidency. Yes, SCOTUS ruled in favor of protecting the 2nd Amendment, but did you see how close the vote was. It will be back someday, and the Justices that may hear that case may all be the likes of those that ruled against the 2nd Amendment. Supreme Court Justices, on many issues, make all the difference in the world as to what direction this country goes.

I may not be entirely happy with John McCain, but I do believe he will nominate the right judges, he will not raise taxes, he is a staunch 2nd Amendment supporter, he is prolife, and he is what we need during this time of peril for this country as it pertains to Iran.

I AM VOTING REPUBLICAN ACROSS THE TICKET BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATS DO NOT BELIEVE IN ANY OF THE ABOVE, AND REALLY WANT THE GAS PRICES TO EITHER STAY WHERE THEY ARE OR GO HIGHER.

Does The GOP Want To Survive?

It's really up to Sen. McCain. If he wants our votes, he has to earn them.

He said he heard us after the last amnesty fight. He heard two things right. We want the border secured and we don't trust them. There apparently was alot he didn't hear.

He hired Juan Hernandez, who represents foreign nationals illegally in our country as his hispanic outreach, instead of reaching out to someone from "You Don't Speak For Me" a group of citizens of hispanic descent who oppose illegal aliens.

He said a couple of weeks ago he would sign McCain/Kennedy if it were put on his desk.

If he wants my vote, there are a couple of things he could do.
1. Publicly dismiss and disavow Juan Hernandez and the Reconquista for which he stands.
2. Apologize for conspiring in secret with La Raza and Ted Kennedy and trying to jam amnesty down our throats.
3. Pledge to veto ANY amnesty bill.
4. Pledge to enforce the laws, including deportation, which is the penalty for illegal aliens.

It's up to Sen. McCain, he can represent the interests of American citizens and uphold the rule of law or he can continue to court the favor of liberals and illegal aliens.

I will not vote for the latter.

Do You Want To Keep Your Country?

We the People of the United States of America have the right to have our borders and our laws respected and enforced.

Citizens of other countries illegally in our country have no right to demand anything from our government. They most certainly have the right to petition the governments of their home countries for change if they are unhappy with their home country. If they want to be Americans, we have a path to citizenship, more generous than any other nation, and it starts in their home country.

We need to insist on the equal protection, application and enforcement of the law or devolve into anarchy. Our Republic only functions if everyone follows the same rules. We should not change the laws to accomodate those breaking them.

If America annouces to the world "We can't stop you, so come on in" with another amnesty, the deluge will be overwhelming. If 3,000 a day didn't get your attention, then wait until it's 10,000 a day. We cannot sustain this influx and survive as a nation. We must speak up and speak to each other about this and not let false claims of racism or bigotry be used to intimidate us into silent assent. America is not Congress' to give away. America belongs to We the People. Speak to your neighbors, speak to your coworkers, but please speak up to your Congressmen and Senators. It's O.K. for us to enforce our laws, no really, it is.

Someone please tell Sen. McCain.
