Barack "blank" Obama: A radical masquerading as a moderate

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Senator Barack Obama's (D-Ill) platform is his politics of "understanding." Obama has been careful not to define the issues upon which he runs; rather, he explains that it is time to "move forward," to discard "ideology," to reach a new "common ground" built on an "understanding" of broad-based values. Of course, this is pure Grade A pap, since Obama fails to define those values, except in broad generalities. Yes, he's for the flag (but not against burning it -- he voted against the flag-protection amendment), motherhood (as long as taxpayers foot the bill for daycare and abortion on demand remains legal) and apple pie (he has not had to vote on apple pie). But where does he stand?

Obama is a liberal, and a rather radical liberal at that. According to Obama's new best seller, "The Audacity of Hope," Obama hates Ronald Reagan: He was "disturbed by Ronald Reagan's election in 1980 unconvinced by his John Wayne, "Father Knows Best" pose, his policy by anecdote, and his gratuitous assaults on the poor." (31)

He loves Jimmy Carter: "a Democrat who -- with his emphasis on human rights -- seemed prepared to once again align moral concerns with a strong defense." (288)

Despite his protestations to the contrary, he dislikes President Bush: "The President's eyes became fixed; his voice took on the agitated, rapid tone of someone neither accustomed to nor welcoming interruption; his easy affability was replaced by an almost messianic certainty." (45) He repeats "war for oil" slander: "Is cheap oil worth the costs -- in blood and treasure -- of war?" (310)

He slimes Rush Limbaugh: "if Rush Limbaugh's listeners enjoy hearing him call me 'Osama Obama,' my attitude is, let them have their fun." (122) As Limbaugh has explained repeatedly, it was Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) who first mislabeled Obama "Osama." Limbaugh is making fun of Kennedy, not Obama, when he references the misnomer.

Obama insults evangelicals: "Their fervor has gone mainstream. There are various explanations for this success, from the skill of evangelicals in marketing religion to the charisma of their leaders." (202)

He suggests that the Bible tolerates homosexuality: "For many practicing Christians, the same inability to compromise may apply to gay marriage. I find such a position troublesome, particularly in a society in which Christian men and women have been known to engage in adultery or other violations of their faith without civil penalty. I [am not] willing to accept a reading of the Bible that considers an obscure line in Romans to be more defining of Christianity than the Sermon on the Mount." (222)

He rehashes worn-out liberal anti-religious arguments: "Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests that slavery is all right and eating shellfish is an abomination? How about Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith?" (218) Then, after all of that, he also attempts to capitalize on his own religious journey: "I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth." (208)

Obama is a fervent believer in global warming and wants to dramatically raise fuel efficiency standards as well as taxes on oil companies. He wants to raise minimum wage and expand the Earned Income Tax Credit. Though he says he's for free trade, he voted against CAFTA. He wants to spend billions more dollars on early education, though Head Start has been a debacle. He wants to heavily regulate health care and, in doing so, essentially nationalize it. He wants to raise taxes across the board.

He cites as his economic guru Warren Buffett and quotes him as stating, "[Billionaires] have this idea that it's 'their money' and they deserve to keep every penny of it. What they don't factor in is all the public investment that lets us live the way we do." (191) This is Marxist trash. "Capital is therefore not a personal, it is a social power," Marx wrote in "The Communist Manifesto." Viewing private property as social property is a mandate to tyranny. Yet that's precisely how Obama views private property: "I simply believe that those of us who have benefited most from this new economy can best afford to shoulder the obligation of ensuring every American child has a chance for that same success." (193)

These are not the words of a moderate. They are the words of a man who fits right in with his radical base. The hatred for Reagan, Bush and, in particular, the revulsion he feels at traditional religion, is palpable. Those who endorse Obama must look beyond his fraudulent rhetoric before signing off on his agenda.

radical is radical
That global warming is caused by man is a radical position. Same sex marriage is a radical position. As for government programs, look to Europe to see where this leads.

"Even if Bill Gates were to write a check every month to pay for all the social services doled out by the government, it would still be wrong. Our dependence on government for the things we can and should do for ourselves is exactly the problem we are seeing in Europe. It robs us of our vitality." - Mark Steyn

Obama is noteworthy only in that he is well spoken and black. He has neither gravitas, nor executive experience.

Obama
If Obama were white, he wouldn't get the time of day from the Media.

The Dems are so enamored of the idea of having a black or a woman for president regardless of their qualifications that it is ridiculous--and of course whoever they zero in on immediately become the media darlings.

the nitty gritty.
If Obama were white, would he even register on the "Richter scale" of politically noteworthy persons and events? While I may be hopelessly old fashioned and susceptible to archaic thinking, we should emphasize a politician's ideas, not race. And from what I glean from this article, Obama is nothing more than a slightly left of center politician...a most common occurrence in the democrat party. Does his race account for this puzzling adulation from our leftist brethren?

Let Osama Bin Barack run
Then we will finally see which way this country leans.

Since his annointment by the
MSM as "One Who Walks on Water" I have been watching him very carefully, because only One has ever walked on water. This article, thank you Mr. Shapiro, is another tidbit of information that I must file away for future reference.

Actually, if the man wants to be a star, he should team up with Oprah. Can you imagine that dynasty for America? Yikes!!!

If Obama were white
joegirl and jerabaub

The other part of Obama's popularity is that he is a good speech-maker. I'm not so sure he would be ignored if he were white.

If he were white he might be the next Bill Clinton. He already has several things in common with Slick Willie:

1. A stone liberal masquerading as a moderate.
2. Impressive public speaker.
3. Impressive physical appearance
4. Willing to sell out the US for his own political advancement.

When you add his black, inherent-victim social status to this, which will result in charges of racism being leveled at any white person who opposes or, heaven forbid, criticizes him, he has the potential to screw the country up even worse than Clinton did.

jerabaub
That’s actually a very good point and your character analysis of Obama is also good. Let is all consider. If the answer to your question is yes then isn’t Ben’s (and others) disparagement based on the same?

Allen....
Seems to me that there is a great deal more to this article then just the Global warming issue or homosexuals.

But when you have but a couple of issues.....

The very idea that personal "stuff", be it money, property or anything else is, in some
"social justice" way, actually for the benefit of all of society IS socialism. And as always, people like Obama declare themselves as the ones to decide where that "stuff" is best used. I personally can't think of ANYTHING more unAmerican then the idea that the treasure (however you want to define that word) I have, by whatever legal means I obtained it, is actually only mine is a caretaker state. That people like Obama are oh so much better qualified to decide when, where, how and for how long my "stuff" is to be used.

I'm not, in any sense, against helping those who need it (as opposed to want/expect it). But to be forced to "help" isn't helping, it's robbery/theft/rape.

Nothing less.

NObama
"He loves Jimmy Carter: "a Democrat who -- with his emphasis on human rights -- seemed prepared to once again align moral concerns with a strong defense." (288)

This one statement here that Ben made would completely turn me away from Mr. Obama. Anyone who loves Carter must also agree with Carter's actions which I see as almost traitorous.

Obama is a radical left wing nut case and just the one the dems would love to run. Meanwhile over the next couple of years, Obama will be out there speaking in tongues so that no one can really get a sense of who he is or what he stands for.

Articles like Ben's are good so that the man is exposed for who he truly is.

I consider him an empty suit also. On top of that I think he is quite arrogant to think he needs to run for president when he is so inexperienced and unseasoned. That arrogance is frightening. To me it demonstrates a lack of maturity.

who is he
He's Charlie Rangle with a better speaking voice

not just black and/or female....
Yes the MSM is drooling for Mr. Obama because he is so Clintonesque and black to boot. Then we have Hillary, MSM will be pushing her too, also because she is so Clintonesque and female..but, let Condi run and see if color or gender gets her anywhere with MSM.

If
If I sent Senator Obama a copy of "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand, do you think he'd read it?

By the way, Jimmy Carter has a new book out that essentially defines Israel as an "apartheid" state, and calls for a "solution" similar to the one he imposed on the former state of Rhodesia, now known as Zimbabwe. (Or, as the late Col. Jeff Cooper [God rest him] often referred to it, "Mugabistan".) I wonder if there is any chance that reality will ever register on Carter's personal radar?

cheers

eon

FarmersWife
Yeah, we already saw what Condi got from the MSM.
Do you recall all the racist cartoons about her?

Good old left with their double standards.

And, I believe that the MSM's orgasmic experience will come when the 2008 ticket is Hillary/Obama.
Can you hear them now? The MSM "reporters/propagandists will all have to wear drool bibs on their shows.

eon
Carter and reality. Oh, too funny. The two shall never meet.

Change party names
What needs to happen is the Dems need to be called the Socialist Party and call a spade a spade. The Republicans could be called ????????????

Hou do we turn a self centered dependent society around? What happened to self respect and self reliance.
Those poor jerks that came out on the wagon trains really missed out by not waiting around a hundred years for uncle sam to foot all the bills for them, build them houses, and get thier food delivered for them.

Where is the substance?
Whenever I read or hear Obama, I'm reminded of Bill Clinton--a lot of talk, but nothing to back it up.

Puzzling
I am naturally suspicious of anyone who becomes an overnight success in any time period less than two decades.

It was not my intention to bring this up, but since the wiseone says Obama has an "impressive physical appearance," I must. First thing I thought when I saw the photo above is that the guy is butt-ugly. In any event, he doesn't have weird enough hair to be a liberal politician, does he?

I'll give Obama this much, and no more. I, too am puzzled why there is such a political fuss about gays when "...Christian men and women have been known to engage in adultery or other violations of their faith without civil penalty."

Other than that, the only genius Obama seems to possess is that of self-aggrandizement and self-promotion. He's the black equivalent of Martin O'Malley, that callow little pipsqueak who has just weaseled his way into the governor's mansion here in Maryland.

winging texan
I think if the pioneers had been Liberals, we might not even be to California yet. They would have just sat down and waited for Uncle Sam to do something about all their hardships.

Language is such a funny thing.
You say Obama hates Reagan. Criticism is not hatred. Obama says Carter wants a "strong" "defense". One must assume that his is using non-standard definitions of these two words.

That he dislikes Bush and Rush means is is a Democrat, not necessarily that he is a radical. Of course he is a radical, but you have not lead with your best evidence.

Saying evangelicals utilize marketing techniques is not an insult.

And so on.

I think it may be that a moderate democrat is for gay marriage. And for wacky economic irresponsibility. And believes that Global Warming!!! is a dire threat. I think these may be mainstream(ish) democrat tenets.

But I suppose Obama is way to the left, as well. We all think that our position is the best one. We think our position is in the center of sanity. So my point is that it's not about name-calling. It's about clarity of position. And here you most certainly are correct: Obama is being a politician.

Are you saying all rightists are racists, or that those rightists who are racists don't like Obama? As a self proclaimed "rightist" who thinks Condi Rice is presidential material, I take offense if you are saying the former. I am against Obama because he is a Liberal in words, while in action he has done nothing to speak of. The mere fact the Left can float the name of a novice politician is indicative of their paucity of talent and failure to connect with the American people. Your childish rant about getting us epitomizes the state of the Democratic Liberals, and shows why, even with a victory in this election, you are, as Ann Coulter says, a dying party.

I get it
If we don't like Obama we're racist? I fail to see the connection. I don't know if a white someone saying and doing the exact same things as does Obama would be touted or ignored, neither does anyone else.

I think the point that many conservatives are making is that he has basically come from nowhere, positioning himself as a moderate and spouting very liberal ideas in his book. The question they are asking is legitimate, why is this one guy being made out to be the second coming? That is why people are proposing that the fact that he is black is maybe the reason for all of the hype. It can't be his message, can it, I mean, he doesn't really have one.

What a hollow man,
but that characteristic never gave pause to liberals before. They feast on the heaps of BS shoveled out by Clintonesque "feel your pain" types and now they've annointed Shrillary and O'Bama, neither with any notable achievements other than being female and black (read: victims).

Look for this combo running for Pres/VP and see how effective the MSM shills are in carrying their water. We'll see their tiresome and dirty double standard on parade once more. You can't fool all the people, all the time, unless of course they're democrats.

rustyguns
Don't you get tired of playing the race card?
Where does anyone criticize Obama for being black?
Point it out and then argue your point.

Rushmore
Take your own advice. Sounds like you need it.

The Anti-Christ
I think Obama is the Anti-Christ. He is an empty suit, who has accomplished nothing but appeals to the vast numbers. He makes enticing speeches, but one cannot pin him down to any real position. Unless you look hard and find out that his positions are evil and unChristian. He is just the sort of politician that one could expect the Anti-Christ to be, he is already in the Senate and the Dems are already talking about making him the head of the free (but not for long if he is in control) world. I say, watch out.

FDR4Rushmore
And unless you've accomplished all that President Bush and Vice President Cheney have, you are in no position to critisize them. Do I have your position correct?

Unless you have done what the other has (and I cannot imagine that you graduated from Harvard Business School, elected governor of Texas, and twice elected President. Or have you been Secretary of Defense, run a large multi-national company and twice elected Vice-president) you are not in any way qualified to critisize them.

If I got your point wrong, please point out where I did so and what you really meant.

FDr4Rushmore
"And unless you've accomplished all that President Bush and Vice President Cheney have, you are in no position to critisize them. Do I have your position
correct"

It would appear Rushie that Colosteve was more than able to deal with your points. But apparently you can't deal with his.

I thought you were going to talk to your wife. Why not do that now. Maybe you can come back afterwards and be somewhat civilized.

Rushmore
Your first comment was that Ben Shapiro should get laid rather than write garbage. I thought that was really crude.
That is what I am referring to when I say it would be nice for you to come back a little more refined.

Besides that comment being crude, it sounds stupid.

No one has restricted your voice on this site unfortunately.

And, once again you insult people by saying "those who have achieved similar things in life there's no going to be much chat here is there?"

You have no idea what people on this site have achieved. You have no idea what levels of intelligence are on this site. But, of course you would not be able to discern that because you are so full of BS and your own leftist hatred of all things other than that.

You seem to be missing the point that so many have discussed here and that is that Obama has no experience or qualifications to be president.

Obama bin Clinton
wiseone writes:

5. Belief that a third trimester baby doesn't have a right to the brains it should be born with.
6. Was raised by a single mother.

GunnyG
I did read your Iran/Carter blog and thought it was really good.
You are so right. When did Carter EVER have a defense policy but to suck up to terrorists. If the man was not so dangerous talking his treasonous talk all over the world he would be nothing more than a joke in the historical legacy of presidents.

Thanks for the compliment on the rip.
There's been no answer from rustyguns since I made the challenge.

Something to watch
If anyone wants to know how B. Obama would act in an executive position just watch Massachusetts. The current governor-elect is Deval Patrick. He is known to have been on the Pepsi board courtesy of Jesse J. He has befriended and supported with money and time some heinous criminals. He has no political background.

He is an Obama clone, a good looking guy who can speak well and say nothing. His campaign consisted of deep thoughts such as "together we can", "It's time for a new direction", "let's take back our state" and similiar pablum. His far left leanings were never articulated in confrontations with opponents who had substantial points to make to the Mass. voting public.

He is a good looking and sounding empty suit, but he won convincingly.

You just watch Boston.com bostonherald.com once in a while to see the direction of the commonwealth with Patrick at the helm and you will know all you need to know about President Obama with a Dem. legislature.

Another accompishment
Ben must have written his column before BO spoke to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, or maybe his speech didn't get national coverage, but it seems that our Senator Who Walks on Water is now a military expert!

He is calling for gradual and substantial troop reduction starting in four to six months, based on advice of troop commanders; intensified efforts to train Iraqi security forces; US aid packages tied to Iraqi progress in reducing sectarian violence; new diplomacy with Syria and Iran; redeploying troops to northern Iraq and other countries in the region; and boosting troop strengh in Afghanistan.

Nothing new here except the diplomacy bit. But maybe he's unaware of what "diplomacy" by Chicago and the University of Chicago accomplished years ago with the gangs in BO's current 'hood. If, as he said, Iraq is in a civil war, so is the city of Chicago, where we have a regular body count as well, just on a smaller scale, which nobody seems to acknowlege or care about except the families of the innocents caught in the crossfire.

names
It seems Phylo has changed his handle to FDR4Rushmore.

Fowg
Good point.
And, another thing, I keep wondering what the heck the statement "Let's take back our state/country" is supposed to mean by these libs.

Did some unknown alien enemy take our country when no one was looking. This is one of the dumbest statements I hear coming from the left.

I suppose if one translates the libspeak it means "the country was not under their precious, all-knowing control" for a short time.

MikeR
Thank you for being a flaming example that proves the point I make in the last paragraph of my post, which ironically appears directly before yours.

I have no idea what makes libs like you so arrogant and simple that you think you have the right to call anyone who criticizes a black man a racist, and I hope I never do.

Are you really that stupid or are you just that scared to debate Obama's politics on their own merits (or lack thereof)?

Rusty guns
See my response to MikeR. It fits you like a glove too.

race
I'm pretty tired of hearing about how Obama, or Ford for that matter, is black. They're only half black. So they're half caucasion or something else as well. Therefore the black thing only applies half way. For example, in the controversy over the anti-Ford commercial where some said it was racist because the girl asking him to call was white, well he's only half black, so would it also be racist if she was black, in consideration of the other half of his race? Besides, the ones saying that it was racist must be racists themselves because they have a problem with mixed-race relations, which I think everyone would agree is a racist position.

wiseone
Rushie and Rusty are both afraid to debate Obama's abilities, otherwise they would not be groping down in the sewer calling people racists. You know, the old liberal trick "when you can't debate the issue, start calling people names". It's a diversion that does not work anymore.

And, when you invite them to point out the "racist remark" they have no answer to that either.

Well, these liberal tactics just do not work any longer because we are not willing to be duped by that kind of guilt trip.

wiseone
What on earth are you talking about? I never wrote or implied anything of the kind. Are you sure you have the right post? All I did was agree with jerabaub and expand on his point.

apologist
What a good point you make. You know I was somewhat mystified by that so called racist ad also. Since I live in a totally integrated neighborhood where everyone socializes with and dates interracially I did not get what was racist about that white woman telling Ford to call him either. In my neighborhood that is normal. It is not given a second thought.

So I agree you would have to be a racist to see that ad as racist.

Peppermint
You wrote:

"Well, these liberal tactics just do not work any longer because we are not willing to be duped by that kind of guilt trip."

Exactly right. And the reason we don't cave to these attempts to impose "white guilt" on us is BECAUSE WE HAVEN"T DONE ANYTHING TO FEEL GUILTY ABOUT.

If these leftist morons would only ask us about this before assuming this we could set them straight before they fools out of themselves (again).

So why do they assume we feel guilty? BECAUSE THEY FEEL GUILTY. So what latent racist attitudes are they trying to compensate for by projecting their own guilt onto conservatives? The mind boggles at the possibilities.

wiseone
You are right. We are not guilty of this racism that is "PROJECTED" our way.

You said "the mind boggles at the possibilities".
Right. Since libs are always trying to turn the conversation into racism, homophobism, etc., I truly believe they are the ones running around with these fears and hatreds in their hearts.

You know, whenever I'm thinking about an issue it never once crosses my mind about whether a person is gay, black, blue, woman whatever. The issue is the issue. What does all this detritus have to do with the issue?!

Ah Osama..er Obama..what the heck!!
The young man from my home state (alas) seems to be unaware that one of his "idols" made the stupid mistake with his name--none other than Teddy "let'er Swim" Kennedy...
And since the Mr O seems to agree on gloabal warming, I cannot help but point out that several times in various parts of the world where he was going to speak, Ole 'Algore' (read Igor) himself was greeted by huge snowstorms and other wild winter weather. !! Does that give him pause?? No, he is just not that smart. So this labels mr O with the same stains.
The Chutzpah of the man.

OOps
Of course, I meant global warming--just gotta warm up these hands before I try to type!!

apologist
Regarding mixed-races, how is it that Tiger Woods has been hailed as an African-American for all his exploits as a golfer but never once has he been mentioned as an Asian-American for having done those things? How much Asian must he be before he would be mentioned as the first Asian-American to ...? Or how little African (Negro) blood is still sufficient to be called the first African-American to ...?

This in not to denigrate the great success Mr. Woods has had on the links--I stand in awe of his abilities. But his bloodline is at least as much Asian as it is African with only very occasional mention of where his mother is from.

Oh well!

Mike R
I wrote:

"When you add his black, inherent-victim social status to this, which will result in charges of racism being leveled at any white person who opposes or, heaven forbid, criticizes him..."

And in the very next post you suggested that Shapiro's "disparagement" of Obama was based on race.

Get it?

Gore/Edwards
On Error America the overwhelming opinion of the lefties is that Gore/Edwards is an unbeatable team. After all, Gore "already won" in 2000.

apologist is right
Ford and Obama are only half black.

For you cons who don't know what the liberal definition of "half black" is, it means it should only be mentioned when liberals think it works to their advantage. You know, kind of like the way some white people used to only let black people in through the back door.

Gore/Edwards? ROFLOL
I get it. It was Lieberman's fault Gore lost and Kerry's fault the public didn't want Edwards for VP.

Maybe after Gore is done being the inspiration for global warming he can invent a way for the internet to only count the votes that make him win this time.

Maybe after Edwards is done conducting seances in front of medical malpractice juries and driving up the cost of health care for everyone he'll find cures for Parkinson's disease and spinal injuries.

And maybe pigs will fly (anything is possible with federally funded embryonic stem cell research).

wiseone
Yes, I get your point, but I don’t think you get mine. I agree with jerabaub that Obama is not that noteworthy, is nothing more than a slightly left of center politician and a most common occurrence in the democrat party. When jerubaub questions if popularity can be race based, I posed the inverse. In an actual debate, you could answer yes, no or maybe; but that’s not what we have. And that’s the point. In this thread, it’s always the left that is race conscious but not the right. Just as you call me arrogant and simple while claiming I must be stupid on scared instead of considering my question and responding; many of the other contributors find that race is only possible reason for his popularity while every thinkable evil is offered as a reason to dislike Obama yet the notion of race being one of them is inconceivable. There is a certain type of hypocrisy that haunts TH. It’s based on the idea that there is absolutely no virtue in your opposition and no flaw in oneself. Too often, contributors resort to the same type of conduct they decry.

CC
The only way Obama got any recognition is that he got on the Oprah show, and she virtually endorsed him for president. I thought Oprah was smart. Doesn't she know that he has only two years experience? That's like sending my four year old granddaughter to the store to buy all the goodies for Thanksgiving.

I agree that he's got to be enormously arrogant to be even thinking about it. What an ego. Or perhaps this will be the first presidential run with affirmative action behind it?

Peppermint, I also have wondered what the heck the other side is talking about when they keep saying they want to "take the country back".

For some reason, it makes me think of their silly accusations of the president stealing the election - as though he were personally sitting at the table, manually counting the votes, saying "three for me", "one for you", as he stacked them up in two piles. Where do they come up with this silly stuff?

A Formidable Opponent
"wants to dramatically raise fuel efficiency standards"

Why is this a bad thing?

"That global warming is caused by man is a radical position."

Only to some Americans. That global warming is partly caused by man is considered fact in the rest of the Western World, and by the majority of Americans.

"The only way Obama got any recognition is that he got on the Oprah show, and she virtually endorsed him for president."

True. If he runs and Oprah continues to support him, we're in trouble. She is highly respected by the vast majority of American women, and her influence would be enormous.

FDR4Rushmore:
Do I understand you correctly? You seem to assume to know something about Ben Shapiro's love life. Not only that, but you presume to tell him that writing articles is no way for him to spend his time. By what authority do you make that judgement? You stated that you first thought him to be twenty-four, and then sarcastically said that he looked fifteen.

You are a typical leftist bomb thrower. Instead of addressing the content of Ben's article, you chose to ridicule and attack him personally.

What you have done is idenify yourself as just another left wing butt head who has nothing of any value to add to a discussion. Crawl back under your rock. Come out when you grow up.

CC and Skip
CC,
I don't know where the left comes up with their jargon, but it is loony, hence loony left.
I guess he got his start on Oprah although I don't watch her show.

Let's see, we have "take back our country, bush lied people died, drain the swamp, etc. I guess they use these because where is the substance in anything they have to say. They aren't willing to discuss the issues.

Skip,
Good one, get back under your rock. My estimation is the libs only come here to harass and insult. Gee what more could one expect from them.

Lightweight
Can we please depart from the childish assertion that anyone who opposes a certain viewpoint somehow "hates" the person who makes it? My how insecure conservatives seem to be. Literally millions of words have been written about who liberals hate. Do conservatives hate anyone? This is rubbish. Shapiro, like Limbaugh and many other "acclaimed" conservative "thinkers" are truly lightweights. They offer nothing.

Allen
Global warming is a debatable issue. There are scientists on either side of this. There is no proof that the earth is actually warming. "Conservatives" are not going to buy into this global warming until there is actual proof.
You are way out there in left field, my friend. There was no gay bashing in the posts here.

Perhaps you hallucinate.

JFK/WJClinton Candidate Marketing Method
"Senator Barack Obama's (D-Ill) platform is his politics of "understanding." Obama has been careful not to define the issues upon which he runs; rather, he explains that it is time to "move forward," to discard "ideology," to reach a new "common ground" built on an "understanding" of broad-based values. Of course, this is pure Grade A pap, since Obama fails to define those values, except in broad generalities. "

In other words, he's hewing to the template developed by the post-Carter Democratic Party for winning the Presidency: a young charismatic earnest-seeming photogenic guy (or gal, which so far the Demmies haven't actually tried) with charisma and an air of optimism. These qualities are of course carefully enhanced & emphasized by the pop media but not entirely created by it, as it is incapable of creating charisma and magnetism out of nothing (Think Kerry and Gore).

As always lately, the Dems look to make an emotional rather than intellectual appeal to voters. Instead of actual policy positions that can be analyzed and criticized, the prospective candidate gushes empty meaningless focus-grouped phrases designed not to inform but to spread warm fuzzies amongst that portion of the electorate who live by emotion.

"Moderate" is one such nice pretty word, which is why Demmies love to claim to be it nowadays. It doesn't have any particular meaning, but everyone thinks they want to be one or to vote for one. Back in JFK's day, the word "liberal" with its noble Jeffersonian connotations was a thrilling thing for a Democrat to claim to be, but since then people started to associate the word with, um, Democrats & their sorry policies. Therefore it's now the dreaded "L" Word.

I love the way lefties & Demmies keep rejecting "ideology." This is an example of the lame way they campaign and debate nowadays. I'm sure that word focus-groups poorly, sounding similar to "idiot" perhaps. In any event, everyone has an ideology of some kind; it is impossible not to. Show me somebody with no ideology & I'll show you a corpse. It's just that some ideologies, or principles or motivating beliefs if you prefer, are easier & more inspirational to talk about than others. "Do What My Party Leaders Say, & Buy Re-election with Pork" is an ideology, altho one few Congresspersons would actually proclaim it to their constituents! Demmies have "ideologies" alright, they just don't talk about it openly because even the apathetic wonders might get up & boot them out of office if they did.

To paraphrase an old saying, everybody's got an ideology, & they all stink, except mine.

To quote another old saying, leopards don't change their spots. Remember the snow job Clinton pulled with his line of "centrist" bull.

Out of Context
I am excited to read opposing comments regarding Mr. Obama's new book. For Barack has reminded me to listen to all sides, read between the lines, and develop an educated and informed stance on the issues facing America today. I have read this book. Everything Mr. Shapiro has cited has been taken out of context. It's juvenile to debate this way; such accusatory language and contempt. You attract more bees with honey than vinegar, Mr. Shapiro, as Barack Obama has proven.
Mr. Obama does not hate Republicans, nor Reagan or Bush. He speaks very highly of them both as men, and for their personal, and sometimes, professional accomplishments.
Most importantly, Mr. Obama maintains a respect for the traditional two-party design, the point of view of the micro and macro economic impact of government decisions, the Constitution, the People, and God.
Resolutions for America's problems are mind-numbingly complex, but Mr. Obama holds the best resolution I've found for how Americans begin to fix them: listen to the people, all of them, and get back to grassroots common-sense. I don't have to explain what that means to you. You know what you believe. Vote for your leaders, and do it on the basis of your beliefs, trust, and accountability. An open mind wouldn't hurt either.

Big Belly,
Obama just the other day called for a cut and run exit from Iraq. He condones partial birth abortion. He wants to tax the rich and redistribute wealth.

Now, what you say, talk to the people and get back to common sense. That would be great if that was actually happening. If Mr. Obama does go out and talk to the grass roots I doubt he is going to find his policies are in line with most of middle America.

"Funny how you losers just won't admit to playing the race card as I have now had your racist posts looked at by 1/2 dozen minorities who all agree
you are racist pigs."

I'm really frightened now that you've run our posts by "minorities".

I'd sure vote for Steele. Now how does that fit into your "racist" pig category?

Obama, not a moderate
Touche, another great column, I'm glad you have taken on this fraud.

FDR4Rushmore, your ignorance is showing
1. There is no such position as "president" of the Harvard Law Review. There are literally scores of editors on the Law Review, and they are all called "editors." Besides, there is an affirmative action slot on the Law Review -- Obama likely filled it.

2. Ben has already written two books, both bestsellers.

3. Ben is attending Harvard Law School and will graduate this year.

4. He's 22.

Perhaps you should achieve all that before criticizing Ben.

Dolt.

It's a shame that so many people can be swayed by outer appearances with no substance. Well, I'm a woman and he does not appeal to me.

Now Michael Steele, a man of substance who makes his policies known and you know exactly where he stands would be a good candidate if you ask me. But, no one is asking me. Just my thoughts.

Right now I don't see a Republican candidate (at least a declared one) that I want to vote for.

But, there's still time for a good conservative candidate to step forward.

obama as the antichrist?
here is a future presidential candidate for the democrats (oops! now they want to be called the democratics or the democracies or something like that) whom they love -- absolutely love. he gave one (1) speech and is of course black and has a good smile -- he has risen to the level of JFK -- of course JFK had writen a pretty good book and had done a few other things but who'se counting?

Our First Black President
Prognosticating is mighty difficult especially when it's about the future. But one thing I can prognosticate with absolute certainty; Barack Obama will not and cannot be our nation's first black president. Don't you remember? We elected our first 'black president' back in 1992.

New Party
It looks as if we are just gonna have to start up a new political party that takes the best of the two and chunks the rest down the crapper.
I just can not understand how someone that 'claims' to be a follower of Jesus can condone sucking a baby's brain out through a straw for ANY reason!
The ones that laude Obama for his support of the prevention of HIV/AIDS leave out the OTHER reasons that he should not hold office.
Shame..Jesus wept:-(
