Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Quick - - what do you know about the country of Kenya?

That’s the country with the world’s greatest GDP, low inflation and stable employment - - right?

Well, no.

In 2008, the United States had the greatest GDP of any individual country in the world (it came in second behind the 27 nations of the European Union), whereas Kenya produced the world’s 82nd largest GDP. Kenya endured an annual inflation rate of 9.7% in 2008 (current inflation figures for Kenya are unavailable), while the United States recently posted an inflation rate of .1%. And while the United States is currently struggling with an unemployment rate of slightly over 9%, Kenya has suffered for most of this decade with an unemployment rate of roughly 40% (here again, precise, up-to-date figures are unavailable).

From photographs available online, the landscape of Kenya looks beautiful. But economically, Kenya makes for a very ugly picture, whereas the United States, even in the midst of an economic downturn, still looks relatively good.

So why is the President of the United States so committed to reconstructing the American economy with Kenyan-styled policies?

During the last presidential election cycle, I wrote frequently in this column about how candidate Obama packaged inherently communistic economic ideas into his contemporary, and at times inflammatory campaign rhetoric. His famous “Joe The Plummer/Spread The Wealth Around” moment was the least of it. Obama consistently promoted such themes as raising taxes on “the rich,” raising taxes on “excessive” corporate profits, raising taxes on energy, limiting people’s salaries, and redistributing wealth to those whom he believed “deserved” to have it. I have been thinking about your post since yesterday; I find it fascinating. Not clear which grandmother you are talking about. I read on TH that the Kenyan grandmother was the one who said Obama was born in Kenya, but that particular granny is alive and well aka not- dead. The American one who died last fall in her apartment in Honolulu wasn't "found dead' but died of cancer with her family at her side. So how come you "raised your eyebrows"? Have you perhaps confused the two grandmothers? Or are you suggesting that Obama had his American grandmother murdered? Can you perhaps supply a citation or link to your information? Or is this just another case of somebody posting any venomous nonsense they can think of?

Andrea
Well, you know, Andrea, I kind of have the idea that I have as much right to be here as you do. My ancestors starting coming here in the 1630's. English indentured servants, Scotch-Irish frontiersmen, French Huguenot craftsmen fleeing slaughter by Catholics, German Baptist Brethren fleeing persecution by Lutherans, Irish Quakers fleeing persecution by everybody, and five Primitive Baptist frontier preachers, my folks fought in every war from Colonial militias through World War II. They crossed mountains, built log cabins, farmed the prairie, were killed by Indians, buried their dead children, surveyed the land, planted the towns, and built this nation. And, collectively, they left me a certificate of ownership. This is my country.

Where do you get off suggesting that nobody has a right to be here unless they agree with your political philosophy? Are you Hitler? Thomas Jefferson said, "Almighty God hath created the mind free". The Bush II administration tried to sell the idea that all opposed to Bush's policies were un-American. Sarah Palin continued the plan when she said the Real Americans live in small towns. Trust me on this, the rest of us are quite real. And that dumb idea that "if you're not just like us you're not American" was roundly rejected by American voters last November. You should be ashamed of yourself. Your ugly talk dishonors the memory of all who built this country.
