Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

“Congratulations to all you American media morons, you’ve got your country worked-up into a frenzy…everybody knows that swine flu goes away just as quickly as regular flu, but for you its all about audiences and profits, so you’ll hype this for all it’s worth, wont ya?”

The talk show caller was so enraged at me, he had begun slurring his words as he spit them out in rapid-fire succession. It was last Friday, May 1, and I was making another one of my semi-regular appearances as an interview guest on a popular afternoon drive radio talk show in British Columbia (the show hosts and I have a good rapport, as they jokingly refer to me as “almost their favorite American” ).

After the caller spewed his venom, one of the co-hosts deferred to me, saying “Austin, your response?”

I pointed out that President Obama and Secretary Napolitano from the Department of Homeland Security had chosen to speak repeatedly about the “swine flu pandemic.” Never mind the fact that out of a population of roughly 304 million U.S. citizens, less than 150 cases of swine flu have been identified in only 19 of the 50 states. No, no, forget that. Our government officials were “taking care of us.”

To illustrate my point, here’s a fun little excerpt from a news report filed on Monday April 27th - - which was oh-so-many press conferences ago - - by the McClatchy-Tribune news service:

“Faced with the global outbreak…the Obama administration has been relying on a member of the president's Cabinet with almost no background in medicine - Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Homeland Security. Over the past two days, Napolitano has been a constant presence on television screens and in news reports, urging calm, offering reassurance, laying out the facts and the government's response to the spreading outbreak.”

That was the “news” of a week ago, when Napolitano had already become a “constant presence” in the media.

So who, precisely, is trying to “hype this thing for all it’s worth?”

And by the way, the governmental hype doesn’t begin and end with Obama and company. It was President George W. Bush himself who, in 2006, held a press conference to announce the launching of a new governmental website devoted entirely to information about the “bird flu pandemic.” Likewise, Bush’s Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff noted at the time that "the avian (bird) flu bears the potential for societal disruption of unprecedented proportion.”

At that time, the Bush gang was trying to recover from all the blame assigned to them a few months earlier for Hurricane Katrina. Recall that, in the aftermath of that disaster, it was open season for Bush-bashing, complete with Rev. Louis Farrakahn insinuating that the “white” President Bush had bombed New Orleans' protective levees so as to deliberately flood black neighborhoods.

So Bush had a political reason to “not waste a good crisis” back in 2006. And what might be the Obama gang’s reason to utilize this current crisis for their own benefit?

Well, let’s start with Ms. Napolitano. Perhaps she needed to become a “constant presence” in the media, because a week earlier she had people demanding her resignation after her announcement about pro-life activists and U.S. military veterans being on her list of “terror threats.”

Initially, when that news broke, Napolitano insisted that she “stood by” her report, but eventually ended up apologizing to a veterans group for her assertions. So what better time to be all over the national news media, “urging calm,” “offering reassurance,” and so forth? The “crisis” was certainly not wasted.

I must note here that, prior to the enraged phone caller spitting at me on the Canadian talk show last Friday, my discussions with the program hosts had nothing to do with “swine flu.” I was actually being interviewed about President Obama’s declaration that America’s interrogation of terror suspects before he took office had amounted to “torture.”

I had pointed out that the President Obama who declared interrogation to be “torture,” was the same President Obama who 2 weeks earlier had ordered Navy snipers to kill 3 terrorists holding Americans hostage at sea. Those terrorists (we called them “pirates”) didn’t have the great blessing of being taken in to custody, or being held at Guantanamo Bay Prison, or being “water boarded.” They were simply shot to death, at the order of President Obama.

My point on the show was that no President can allow terrorists - - neither teen age boys hijacking a ship, nor adults plotting to blow-up an American city - - to bully the United States. President Obama had made the tough decision, the right decision, just as President Bush had. Yet today, President Obama has so much to gain, personally, by “hyping” his indignation over a previous President’s decisions.

I understand people’s skepticism about “the media.” But we should all be a bit more skeptical about the intentions of politicians.

Good idea Austin.
I achieved 100 percent
skepticism of politicians back in the 1960's.
All politicians, democrat or republican.

I would be interested in learning how to get more skeptical and past the 100 percent I have been stuck on for 40 years.

Swine Flu Vaccination

I see that the Senate got together and voted to spend the money to give everyone in the US and swine flue vaccination starting in 6 months or so.

This "pandemic" (which is almost a laughable term to use) is unlikely to resemble the Spanish Influenza, which killed 10s of millions of people in 1918. The majority of Americans never saw a doctor in their lives. There was no air conditioning or heating. There were doctors, who had no medical training. Medicine Men sold crackpot remedies and castor oil was the preferred "medication" for nearly every ailment.

I would argue that it would be difficult for mass death in this country, which is vastly different than the Mexican towns where they still use donkeys for transportation, fail to have adequate medical services, are sequestered from modern society, etc. It could be argued that they in fact do resemble the US of 1918. We have modern medicine and the influenza, as it is, is not necessarily fatal.

In the Ford Administration, the government started a vaccination program to combat the last outbreak of swine flu in this country. All because one man died. The vaccination caused the deaths of 30 people and paralysis in another 100 people. The program was discontinued early.

Therefore, I don't think that we necessarily need a vaccination. Will it be voluntary or is this another example of social engineering by the government?

THANK YOU for pointing out the obvious. That a third world country like Mexico spawned this thing as well as all of the deaths resulting from it should come as no surprise to anyone, except of course to the politicians and media talking heads. I guess they need to feel useful somehow.

In 1918 there were no antiviral meds, much less antibiotics; even asepsis was a relatively new concept. That too contributed to the high nunmber of deaths. My MIL was two at the time of that epidemic, and when I took her to the Dr last week I never even brought up having her vaccinated simply because the odds are zilch she'd even be exposed, much less infected by this latest 'pandemic'.

One of my fave mind candy novels is Stephen King's "The Stand". Listening to the Chicken Littles out there, you'd think we were living it out right before our very eyes. But as with ALAR, Y2K, AWG and other man/media-created 'crises', this too shall pass.

former President Bush
and President Obama's overreaction to flu epidemics should be evidence enough that government shouldn't be in charge of healthcare.

Aliveinhim
I take issue with your assertion that Mexico spawned the swine flu, because any population is capable of being an incubator for an epidemic, third world or not, but a more affluent country like the US has the best chance of stopping an epidemic.

Socialized medicine can only retard our response to disease and effectiveness to treat disease. It's like turning America into a third world country by taking away innovation and the free market to fund the innovation. Government has their agenda, which is bad enough, but even if they weren't playing politics, they simply can't be developing cures on every front. It's ludicrous.

When something big and malevolent hits, like small pox, we'll sit and watch our children and grandchildren die, because we've been vaccinated and they haven't and no one thought to have available vaccines or even way to develop them.

The government is only ready with tamiflu.

3rd Party Selection
Yes, the "thief in chief" certainy has fooled the weak. But, he certainly hasn't fooled me. I knew he was a usurper the second I layed eyes on him 30 months ago. The only crisis in this country is that 53% of our population is ignorant.

This Is Called..................
Campaigning........? O.K. 'They' start early. That's all! 'They' are looking for a few more good wusses. The weaker and more easily manipulated the wuss, the better its chances of submissive leadership.

Disciple or apostle? Student or teacher? Doesn't matter so long as you talk the talk and kiss the big love of liberalism, the world's only known political mental illness. Comrade President Hussein seeks to fill both positions. Hence, the Jim Wright type of mantra begins early: "We...we...we just want to hep' you!"

Conservatives, the burakamin of Washington socialist politics, need not apply. Your complaints are met with glassy stares. Give it up conservatives. Short of armed revolution you have not even a slim chance of gaining access to the inner circle.

So, let the party begin!!!

CH
The disease did indeed originate in Mexico, just as the bird flu originated in China. Outside the tourist areas there most conditions are third-world-I've seen it and it is pathetic that in this day and age so many people are willing or forced to live so dirtily when they don't really have to. TB is a prime example of the bugs third-worlders can bring with them; we hadn't seen TB here in decades but now it's back, thanks to Mexican illegals.

As for the other vaccines, those are required for all schoolchildren before they can even set foot in the door.

I'm with you on the Gov't being in charge of healthcare though-it is freedom which has permitted us to live the cleanest and healthiest lives on the planet, Mickey D's and SUVs notwithstanding ;). But I guess the pols have to have some sort of crisis going to justify their existence.

"Foot And Mouth" Disease Biden

After Biden's latest gaffe on the Swine Flu "pandemic" created panic around the world, Egypt ordered the slaughter of 300,000 pigs. Now, the country wants to slaughter every pig in the country and the pig farmers are rioting on the streets.

And, "hoof and mouth" is disease a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

Pharm scam
Just like the HPV vaccine hoax requiring young girls to take it when the FDA knows it does nothing but hurt the girls. Now we will be forced to take the new flu vaccine to get rid of the elderly since they see Obama's plans.

The minute Obama hit office he has had a major scare going to draw attention away from what he's doing and to put fear in the tea parties.

Blazing Saddles
GOV LePetomaine(reading a letter from the citizens of Rock Ridge): Women stampeded, cattle raped, sherrif shot! We've got to protect our phoney baloney jobs! Gentlemen we must do something immediately. IMMEDIATELY!
Sound familiar?

Here's the best one.

Biden said, "Run for your life!!!"

What he meant was, "Jogging is good for your health."

Where Is PETA?
Where is PETA, who only a few days ago applied for a permit to set up a PIG STY NEXT TO THE CAPITOL? They wanted to let the pigs muck up the sty, remove the pigs, blow up the sty so that it covered the capitol, just to proved that pigs did not cause the Swine Flu.

To tell you the truth, I have decided not to eat sea-kittens or meat in their honor. Pigs near the pork factory. Perfect, indeed.

TALK ABOUT DUMB!
I heard Egypt slaughtered 300,000 pigs thinking they were eradicating swine flu in their country. Pigs are as smart as dolphins. A pig actually rescued a toddler from the surf in NC two years ago. Karmic paybacks will be disastrous on Egypt, the land of ancient curses!

It's a Mad Mad World, For Sure!
Kill all the pigs! Kill all the infidels! Kill all the unborn babies worldwide and let the American citizens pay for all those slaughtered innocents by abortion! Kill freedom of speech! Kill the right to own guns! Kill freedom of media and the right to speak out on radio! Kill freedom of religion! Did I miss anything since the beginning of 2009?

They had to replace
their 'Great-EST Depression' talk with something. Now that the Obamessiah is in office, the MSM has been quietly dropping stories about layoffs and record unemployment. They must have something; the 'Great-est Pamdemic of 2009' has that flavor. Remember how quickly the subject changed when First Felon Klinton took office, elected because of what the media chorused throughout the campaign: "Worst Economy in 50 Years?'

Mexico and...
.
Actually Mexico is doing a pretty damn good job of controlling the "plague". They can now do their own inspection of bodily fluids without depending on the CDC or Canada to tell them a week later which sick or dead person has/had H1N1. They now know that less than 20 or so dead had the "flu" (H1N1). They know the total number of sick from this source has been less than 300 probable individuals. These numbers have been released recently in the US news, but are generally overlooked by the public.

They have taken drastic, by our standards, options to thrart the spread of the flu such as closing all, all, schools and prohibiting games normally attended by the public, soccer, etc., to be public events. They have closed all non essential businesses to keep even more people at home, and the owners must pay normal wages to their regular employees while they are shut. Only essential business like emergency services, banks, gas stations and super markets are allowed to be open.

The result is the spread of the flu has been cut way short and almost no new deaths are being reported. Yes, Mexico has a great many people living at or below the poverty line, and ignorance and poverty and illness go hand in hand. But they also have been very effective at controlling th1s flu which to my way of thinking has all the earmarks of a US Agency fraud by inserting a laboratory brand of made up H1N1 disease in to Mexico and waiting to see the results. Maybe and maybe not, but the whole thing stinks to my mind. And it doesn't stink of rot gut Mexican alcohol, but rather of international political intrigue.

Let's see if Hollywood gets the message.
.

Pandemic?
Every, mostly fabricated or manipulated, "crisis" is an excuse to spend even more taxpayers' moneys that has not even been earned yet; certainly not earned by these do-nothing right morons in DC.

Stupid or Sinister?
The Drudge Report has been headlining flu stories for a week now. Do you think they're in cahoots with Napolitano?

The phrase is ...
..."useful idiots". It isn't necessary to be on side with tyrants to assist them. It is only necessary to be ignorant enough of everything apart from sycophancy so that doing what one normally does helps them. Repeating the tyrant's calls of dire emergency and doom without any critical examination of the facts or context of the events is the best way to aid him ... or her. It is not necessary to be an expert in any scientific field to use common sense, nor to use what ought to be knowledge within the grasp of every intelligent 12 year old child. It only requires character, integrity, strength of will ... in short, guts! A commodity which is much scarcer than is "expertise" in so esoteric field of supposed knowledge.

WHOSE POLITICS
Austin, you say Obama is doing too much while other conservatives say he's not doing enough about the flu outbreak. You conservatives need to read from the same sheet of music , assuming any of you can read. After reading your article I know you can't write.
