The Obama Economy: Stimulating Growth, Or Funding Failure?

Someone in the world of editorial columns recently predicted that a “bailout backlash” would begin in the year 2010.

Could we arrange for that backlash to get started a little sooner - - like, now?

It’s understandable if Americans aren’t paying attention to the machinations of government at the moment. Most of us just wrapped-up a somewhat anxious holiday season, and gladly said goodbye to a difficult 2008.

But the new Congress launches this week, and the new President takes office in less than three weeks. And if you’ve been angered by the ways the current President and Congress have tossed around your tax dollars, consider what might be ahead.

First, here’s a quick review. The so-called “bailouts” of banking and financial institutions last fall are old news now, and whether or not Treasury Secretary Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke “saved the world” from a far worse economic collapse is debatable. But to the extent that one can actually follow how Paulson has disbursed our $700 billion, one thing is clear: he has not allocated the revenues in the ways he stated that he needed to - - by buying up “troubled assets” (bad loans) from lenders - - when he was pressuring Congress to pass the bailout legislation.

Then came the Automotive industry’s turn to beg for financial aid, and they almost got it from the Congress. But the Republican minority in the Senate held-out for some modest measures of accountability, in exchange for the cash, demanding that the United Autoworkers Union adjust assembly line wages so as to make them more compatible with those of the successful foreign car companies with manufacturing operations here in the U.S.

Of course, the United Autoworkers Union refused to agree to accountability, and the legislation failed. But President Bush quickly stepped-in to bankroll the auto industry’s dysfunction for a few more months, dipping-in to the Treasury Department’s “bank bailout” fund and dolling-out a few billion to General Motors and Chrysler. This was a flagrant violation by Bush of the intended purposes of the bank bailout fund. Worse yet, the President then attempted to explain his maneuver in an interview with CNN, stating, in a moment of frightening irrationality, that “I abandoned free market principles to save the free market system."

The car companies will be back in Washington this year, begging President Obama and the new Congress for more money, and declaring that without a “bailout” the world will end. Hopefully by then, more Americans will be familiar with the investigative work emerging from the Detroit Free Press, the news department of WDIV-TV 4 in Detroit, and syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin.

Collectively, these media professionals have asked questions, and have investigated, and have uncovered information that nobody on Capitol Hill thought to consider. They have discovered examples of the UAW losing millions of dollars of union members’ dues in failed business investments - - ranging from a startup airline that never “got off the ground,” to a left-leaning talk radio network that operated at a loss of $75,000 a month, to the acquisition of golf resorts to facilitate the UAW’’s “golf summer school” program. Detroit’s channel 4 tv has also recently produced a series of “under cover investigative reports” exposing both assembly line workers and union bosses at a Ford manufacturing plant, as they “punch the clock” and begin a work shift, and then leave the facility to go shopping, buy beer, get haircuts, and spend hours at local bars, all on Ford company time. With this kind of corruption and reckless mismanagement, it’s no mystery why the American car business can produce decent enough vehicles, and still remain unprofitable. Yet, this is the kind of failure that American’s are being forced to sustain, with the allocation of their tax dollars.

And how about a “bailout” for America’s dying newspaper industry? Democrats in the Connecticut state legislature have already begun a movement to “bailout” two small town newspapers in the town of Bristol, arguing that a “free press” is essential to democracy. With this mindset, and given the legitimately vast historical resource that the “New York Times Historical Archives” provides online to libraries and schools across the country (other newspapers provide such resources as well), one could imagine Congress approving the expenditure of our tax dollars to keep this industry afloat for a while longer.

And don’t forget pro sports. For well over a decade, municipal and county governments have been laying-out public funds to build ever-bigger and better sporting arenas, calling such expenditures “investments,” and banking on the “if we build it they will come” guarantee. Today, ticket sales are declining (especially in the NFL), yet public properties, privately owned teams, and multi-millionaire athletes remain economically intertwined with one another. Should a team or two from the NFL - - or from the NHL or MLB - - hint at bankruptcy this year, how difficult will it be to convince Congress that such teams are “too big to fail?”

The new President and Congress must act quickly to help the economy. Funding mismanagement and failure will not accomplish this objective.

The only thing they will do is continue to steal the taxpayers money and use it to support the world and their Socialist schemes while making themselves very rich in the process!

Obama Economy
A measure of how a person will conduct the National economy may be seen in how he personally conducts his own affairs. For example, to insure that his daughters are able to attend their new school on Monday, he is spending an amount equivelant to or more than the combined amounts of both of the combined full annual tuitions of Sasha and Malia.

But his name does not appear on the list of major contributors to the school which provided him and his sister with scholarships for 8 years.

There's something wrong with this picture.

A lesson on new presidents
It would appear that Obama's fetish for Big Fixing is modeled after FDR. Should we all know how that worked out? Never before in all my life has an upstart new president trying to be a grandstander even if the source has tenuous beginnings with the likes of Acorn.

The Realistic Option
Remember that old adage originating out of the U.S. space effort: "Failure is not an option." When it comes to some of the U.S. dysfunctional companies and states, I believe that is the only realistic option. After all, realistic, successful capitalism is the product of creative destruction.

Why is this election so historic?
Is Barry's supposed race what makes this election so historic?

Barry has no race. He's not black, he's not white, he's bi-racial.

I think this election is historic because we've never elected such an inexperienced mouth-piece like Barry. We've never before elected such an extreme leftist, with so many bizarre associations in Chicagoland, like Barry before.

The Magic Negro is the biggest empty suit we've yet had in the White House. But with a sympathetic press and academia, I have no doubt Barry will go down in history as the greatest American who has ever lived. No doubt.

Don't Worry
There is a hard and fast rule in this universe. "That which can't go on will eventually stop". The socialists in government years ago decided to ignore the limits on government placed there by the Constitution. They have created a situation that can't go on. The Ponzi scheme they foisted on America combined with all the other social spending that has been created by administrations both Democrat and Republican has us headed for a financial meltdown.

Roosevelt got away with it because of a growing economy and a demographic trend that provided increasing revenues. The government is now in exactly the same situation as all those that bought houses that were too expensive. The payments to service their debt will be more than they have and in attempting to take more from the public they will drive the economy down further exacerbating their dilemma.

They have two options. Drastically curtailing government expenditures or printing money to cover their spending. They have already opted for the later but that is another thing that can only last so long. The spendaholics are caught between two really hard things. We aren't going to have to wait fifty years to see how this plays out.

My Favorite Bit Of Logic

EVERYTHING that government does, short of lowering tax rates and repealing regulations, is a negative influence on the economy. Every financial mess during lanczos' six decades on the planet has been directly caused by the government.

Some argue
we haven't had a real free market so what is the loss? Caertainly, we have had a more free market up (to this past year) then Europe or other countries and that has made us a successful nation and raised our standard of living in comparison to Europe. Now, Europe is trying to move toward less socialism because it has stunted their growth almost since WWII when they headed in the direction of socialism. There is no evidence Obama is a real free marketer. He is guided not by economic principles but by compassion and the notion everyone is better off when the wealth is distributed. I am worried not only about the loss of economic progress but the loss of freedom fostered by the growth of government into our lives. Intrusion into our lives will go far beyond seat belts, helmets, light bulbs, green cars, taxes on milage etc etc etc.

It appears that each poster, so far...

has hit one OR MORE of the biggest problems... correction, biggest catastrophes, that this country has ever seen.... SO FAR!

And it's not funding "failure" it's funding Marxism-Communism.


However, one of the biggest mistakes people make is calling Marxist Obama an "empty suite."

He is anything BUT and empty suite. He is bright, cunning, diabolical, and perverse.

We'll soon learn that the most evil leaders in the past 100 years had nothing over Obama. The only question is, who will come to OUR aid?

I couldn't agree more! The way I see it is that Ovomit is one of the most dangerous men of all dictators. He is a cunning diabolical nightmare! With the same old dream of "World Domination."

Well, now that the "Useful Idiots" have put him in office he will use our country and it's taxpayer money as a base to launch his grand schemes.

Some folks still believe they will 'just vote him out' if he doesn't do what the people want. These sheep are so blind they can't see what's happening all around them. Our system of voting doesn't work any longer!

They see Ovomit preparing to build an "Internal Security Force" stronger than our military and think nothing of it. The only "security" this is meant for is protecting Ovomit and his Socialist/Communist agenda! Stimulating Growth, Or Funding Failure?
I say the latter, BIG TIME! The Nation's economy is already in the red and the red ink is being financed by other countries like China. Adding a trillion dollar “stimulus package” is pure idiocy and will place the Nation “neck on the chopping block”. There is a very real probability that our economy, and by extension, the country will be completely at the mercy of outside entities, our creditors, and they do NOT have our best interest at heart. 98% of the time politicians are dumb as dirt on the issues they meddle with and if they rely on “experts”, they select the ones that support their agenda and almost never the clear and superior end-to-end solution that is “the best for the most”.

This is an example of the termite riddled structure that is the economy, education, health care, and people's collective "can't do" attitude, all manipulated by dismally incompetent and corrupt politicians that citizens won't hold accountable. The rapid decline of the country is upon us and we did it to us (except for a small, sane minority).

It was over a year ago that I started posting that pretty much everything that came out of Obama's mouth was right out of the "Marxist Handbook!" And you know the "blog-beating" I took for that.... for months.

Then people started doing some of their own research, and low and behold... they started seeing exactly what I'd been posting about.

Conservatism, at least the unadulterated kind, recognizes as an axiom that nothing in life is free, you have to work for it; be it a house or your liberty. It’s an individual responsibility. This axiom requires that if excesses occur in any direction then a “correcting force” has to restore equilibrium; such as losing your house if you can’t make payments and losing your liberty if you violate someone else’s. This self-regulating mechanism in olden times kept people prudent and they did not live beyond their means as they knew the consequences. In this day and age of “liberalism/socialism”, caution has been thrown to the wind, people indulge in excesses of every kind, they think it is their due, and, in fact, seek perpetual indulgence from others (government usually but not exclusively), which is nothing more than living at the expense of others. Historically, this has been a recipe for weakening a Nation and its people to the point of collapse and then being subjugated by outside forces, usually physically by other more robust Nations but it can be by economic fiat, such as China collecting on our current multi-billion dollar debt. We then become a sort of slaves to these new forces and, of course, all indulgence stops completely and/or is dictated directly by the brutal reality of the forces themselves.

Madoff is a 'Piker'

The 50 billion that Bernie Madoff conned people out of will pale in History compared to the trillions of dollars that Al Gore has 'scammed' with his Global Warming con.

The trillions that Al Gore has 'scammed' will pale in History compared to the greatest 'Con in History' - Barack Obama's 'Sacrifice for the Common Good' redistribution of wealth.

Barack 'Marxist' Obama will be remembered as the 'Prince of Destruction' and the greatest 'Con Man' in the history of the world.

Sorry to be a contrarian but I for one think that our economic woes are being exaggerated for political effect. We do have economic troubles at present, no doubt, but it's not the end of the world, nor the end of the country.

With a little common sense, we can pull ourselves out of this recession (not depression) in the not too distant future.

All the doom and gloom, as I said, is exaggerated for political effect, to help the ushering in of the Magic Negro and His Divine quest for "social justice".

I have also received a 'blog beating' (great term Anne) for stating that Barack Obama is the most DANGEROUS man ever elected to the US Presidency.

Barack Obama is NOT an 'Empty Suit' (as you so aptly noted) but a skilled and manipulative 'Con Man'.

Positive Sign
Obama is stimulating part of the economy. I was just at a gun show and it was packed. Walmart in our area is out of most kinds of ammunition. Gun dealers are doing more business than ever before. Unfortunately, they will probably be put out of business in the next couple years, but for now the economy is going gangbusters in this segment.

There IS a "not so quiet" movement afoot

where people are beginning to see exactly where we are... Even some who were, until recently, skeptical, are beginning to see the handwriting on the wall.

Gun sales is only one, but a significant indicator.

Another is that people are seriously talking about protests in front of the Capital Bldg. WHEN ("IF" isn't even part of the debate) Congress gets ready to pass the "Censorship Doctrine."

My ONLY HOPE.. HOPE... is that we all remember what we did to stop the Amnesty Bill from being passed two years ago.

As long as we can, we have to remember that at least for the time being, "We The People" are Congress' OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE... and if we forget that, we've LOST!

Obama Wants America disarmed

1998-1999
Obama votes against a bill that specifically allows homeowners the right to use a gun in self-defense during a home invasion. The Illinois Governor vetoes the bill; Obama votes to uphold the veto.

In 1999, Obama proposes increasing Illinois firearm and ammunition excise taxes by 500 percent. (For example, a $55 tax on a $500 rifle would increase to $330.) The tax would thus change from a fee to fund wildlife preservation programs into a gun-punishing penalty.

2002-2003
Obama votes to make a criminal out of a homeowner who used a gun in his own defense in his own home.

While a State Senator, Obama votes for a bill that would ban most hunting rifles, shotguns, and target rifles; the bill would also authorize the Illinois State Police to raid homes and forcibly confiscate banned guns.

Obama votes four times during his Illinois State Senate career against legislation that would allow a homeowner to use a firearm in defense of his home and family.

Obama votes, in 2003, for a bill that classifies most single-shot and double-barreled shotguns as “semi-automatic assault weapons” and bans them, along with hundreds of models of rifles and handguns. (Had the bill had passed, Illinois residents would have had 90 days to turn their guns in or face felony charges.)

2004
In 2004, Obama says he is "…consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry," and that he would back "federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons, except for law enforcement." [444]

In March, 2004, Obama votes to allow prosecution of citizens how use guns for self-defense in their own homes (SB 2165).

Obama proposes legislation prohibiting gun stores from operating within five miles of a school or a park; inasmuch as most communities have schools and parks scattered widely throughout their areas, the legislation would effectively ban gun stores.

Who is responsible?

Thinking people realize through reason and logic that the hardest world to change is their own.

Those unable to evaluate their own problems, focus on everyone elses problems.

The only 'world' that one is responsible to change and has absolute control of changing is their own 'world'.

The mantra of the 'Liberal' in America is that someone or something has caused my problems NOT ME.

The American citizen is responsible for their decisions and actions - Liberals say that someone else is responsible for my decisions and actions.

The core question that separates America politically is:

Liberals believe that Individuals 'ARE NOT' responsible for their decisions and actions.

Conservatives believe that Individuals 'ARE' responsible for their decisions and actions.

That little three letter word 'NOT' is the great divide in America - race, gender, sexual preference and class are only symptoms of 'NOT' responsible.

NJ has been funding failure for years
We have the now third world inner cities to show for it, and are busily taxing the productive- small and large- out of the state. Those who personally benefit from big government, through employment or handouts, are beginning to worry . The small matter of where money and opportunities come from in the first place (the private sector) is dawning on a few in my field- VERY slowly- but dawning just the same. Their solutions tend to be keep sucking the productive increasingly more dry, despite irrefutable evidence that social problems get worse and wider spread on many levels. Blue brains either do not or cannot learn.

I think most politicians in this day and age are steeped more in ideology than in economics- its not going to get better. Too many big gov't businesses to subsidize and power grabs to be made to care about sustainability.

Every American knows of the legacy of liberty associated with Jeffersonian ideals. However, nearly no one is aware that it was the statist Hamiltonian ideals of empire and mercantilism which eventually won.

The government/corporate economic legacy of Hamilton, Clay, Lincoln McKinley, Wilson, & Roosevelt is what we have today.

The modern "left" and "right" are no different. Building empires abroad; while tilting at the windmill of poverty here at home. It's called the warfare/welfare state, and we are stuck with it until the American people realize "...it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security."

Why Support Republican Party

It's good we are lead by the likes of the swine we have in congress, including Franken and another Kennedy to drive us across the bridges of life and politics.

The only difference between corporate "greed" and government "greed" is accountability.

In the private sector, the playing field is inherently an open system. It behooves corporations to treat employees well when there is robust competition and a receptive market for whatever they produce. There are plenty of dirt bags, but they are ultimately held accountable in a free market one way or another.

Government is inherently a closed system. At this point in time I see blatant and frequent nepotism as well as alot of dead weight/destructive "employees" who are simply entitled to jobs. When programs fail- failure is just redefined and funds "reallocated" to the same programs that have been renamed and overseen by a different division. Nothing worthwhile has to be produced; various systems now exist for their own sake.

Those who wish to reliquish personal sovereignty for the illusion of government provided security and fairness are mistaken to think greedy human nature disappears with increased, unaccountable power over others. On the contrary; its like letting rabid pit bulls off of their leashes and pushing the citizenry into a closed arena with them.

Further...The national authority cannot
effectively govern a nation of 300+ million wildly diverse subjects (and that's what you are).

You cannot 'govern justly' if the convictions & beliefs of your subjects are so diverse that virtually any two groups are completely at odds.

Many different groups on this continent simply cannot come to a compromise (nor should they). Either you sell out your convictions, traditions & beliefs in order to be governed by the convictions, traditions & beliefs of another...OR YOU DO NOT. that is the simple choice.

If you choose to give up your convictions (i.e. deeply held beliefs), then you become a slave to the convictions of another. If you choose not to give up your convictions, then you become the enemy of those whose convictions differ from you (BUT WHOM YOU ARE FORCE TO SUBSIDIZE).

Since this is, for many, an impossible choice. The only way to secure the greatest freedom for the greatest number is to abolish the national government and hit the reset button.

We the people ened up in the preamble
simply because "we the states of virginia, new york .....and so on" seemed a little cumbersome.

This was however, the intent. It helps to look at the surrender document signed by the british when the 13 colonies won their independence. It was addressed to each individual state.

the notion of "a government of the people, by the people, and for the people" appears nowhere in our founding documents. it is a lie, concocted by the same bunch of tyrants that tried to sell us on the myth of "implied powers."

The phrase "a government of the people, by the people, and for the people" didn't appear until 87 years later when that statist dictatory 'dishonest abe' used it as a bit of poetry in his gettysburg address.

According to the latest Gallup Poll, Obama now enjoys a 74% favorability rating. That compares well with President-Elect Reagan's favorability rating in early January 1981.

And just as the Democrats found out back then, the Republicans today should figure out that going on the attack against a President-elect with a 74% favorability rating is going to backfire big-time.

Obama is clearly enjoying his honeymoon status. Typically a honeymoon can last up to the first 6 months or so of the new Administration. In that time, the opposition party has to show it can be a LOYAL opposition, offering constructive criticism but not appearing to backstab the new President just as he's trying to get started.

I suggest we sheath our claws and be patient. This is not the time to take on a President-elect as popular as Obama is. We're just going to look like embittered sore losers who are still peeved we lost the election less than 2 months ago.

Bailout/Corporate Welfare? Somehow I missed that in my many, many readings of the Constitution. I also don't see HUD, Medicaid, Medicare, Federal Education, Social Security, OH stop already! Know what would stimulate the economy? Stop stealing our money for your ILLEGAL/UNCONSTITUTIONAL schemes.
