The "Fairness Doctrine" Is The Least Of Our Concerns

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Barack Obama has weighed-in on the issue of reinstating the so-called “Fairness Doctrine.”

After being repeatedly questioned about the candidate’s position, campaign Press Secretary Michael Ortiz stated in an email message that “Senator Obama does not support re-imposing the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters.”

This position could be yet another one of those “deeply-held convictions” that Obama believes in unequivocally, similar to his long-held position on campaign finance reform.

In January of 2007, Obama stated in a CNN interview with Larry King that the public-financing system “works.” Later that year, Mr. Obama challenged Republican presidential candidates to join him in limiting their campaign spending. Earlier this year he made it a point of reminding Democratic primary voters that he has spent much of his professional life supporting public campaign financing.

And then, when confronted with the opportunity of shattering private campaign fundraising records - - even the stratospheric records set by George W. Bush earlier this decade - - Mr. Obama abandoned his convictions about public financing and chose a private financing route instead, allowing him to spend unlimited amounts of money on his campaign. Moreover, Mr. Obama even blamed Republicans for his “need” to abandon his convictions, and portrayed the ditching of his own beliefs as some sort of moral high ground.

It’s not difficult to imagine that Mr. Obama, man of conviction that he is, might quickly change his position about the “Fairness Doctrine,“ after taking the oath of office next year. Several key Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill are already preparing the way for the doctrine‘s return, including California Senator Diane Feinstein, New York Representative Louise Slaughter, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Surely the Democratic Majority in Congress will be looking to President Obama for “leadership” on the issue next year.

But fortunately, thanks in no small part to Rush Limbaugh, millions of Americans know that the “Fairness Doctrine” has nothing to do with “fairness,“ and everything to do with constraining consumer choice as it regards media content. Yet, what many Americans are not aware of is the emerging, liberal, “media reform movement,” that has been growing for most of this decade. And while the agenda of the “media reform movement” is essentially the same as that of the “Fairness Doctrine” advocates, the tactics entailed in this movement are different.

Liberal non-profit organizations, touting themselves as “consumer advocate” and “watchdog” groups, have been sprouting-up around the country during the Bush presidency, lamenting the lack of “consumer choice” and the “content” and “quality” of information that American consumers receive via local and national media. Activists within this movement use morally high-minded terms like “media justice” (whatever this means), “democratizing the media,” and “diversity.”

Now arguably, in our present era of blogging, “citizen journalism,” and “You Tube”- styled web portals, the media landscape is more diverse now that it ever has been. But the “media reform” activists ignore the many ways in which our free-market economy has allowed anyone and everyone to communicate to the world, and how it has given rise to a greater diversity of radio formats than ever before. Instead, liberal activists express concern over what they believe are “alarming trends” in American media, and seek legislative “solutions” to these trends.

They lament the phenomena of “media consolidation” (“too much power over America’s airwaves is concentrated in the hands of too few companies”), ignoring that it was President Bill Clinton who ushered-in the present levels of corporate radio ownership with the “Telecom Bill of 1995.” They lament the declining circulation of hardcopy newspapers - - as though it is a Bush-Cheney scandal that Americans are choosing the internet over the printed paper. They lament that Americans choose to consume the “biased” Fox Newschannel more than they choose to consume CNN (as though CNN is somehow “objective”). And they lament that Americans choose to listen to the conservative Sean Hannity radio show, more than they choose, say, the liberal Alan Colmes radio show.

And make no mistake - - the “media reform” movement is, itself, liberal. At the recent, 4th annual “National Conference For Media Reform” in Minneapolis, the list of keynote speakers included liberal commentator Bill Moyers, and Dan Rather - - the man who dragged CBS News through the gutter and was ultimately fired by the organization for lying about the President of the United States in the election year of 2004. The conference also included a sympathetic FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, who offered his own lament about the “dumbed-down civic dialog” that our current media landscape has created.

Ultimately, activists within the “media reform movement” don’t like the fact that as choices and options have expanded for American media consumers, conservative personalities and ideas have proliferated. Americans, choosing freely, are ultimately choosing the “wrong” kind of media content, and this must be stopped.

Should he win the election, look for President Obama to lead with his “convictions” on “media reform” - - just as he did with campaign finance reform.

Obama, Marxist Socialist...
Wouldn't it be ironic if Rush, Hannity and Laura e.t.c had to broadcast from off shore to reach listeners in this country, like Radio free Europe did in Europe, to reach across the Iron Curtain.

I was wondering what hate group you belonged to?

good job Impeach.
These clowns would support the commander in chief, no matter what, because it makes them feel proud.

Keep in mind, Nancy Pelosi's father is practically the founder of Modern Israel, as he was the only member of Roosefelt's cabinet that supported Israel. That was before Israel was actually founded, but, like a mafia, Israel has a memory. Pelosi may have an Italian name, but her father was Argentine Jewish.

I would like to see one person get elected to national office saying he was opposed to Aipac's influence peddling. When Aipac enters "the room" things go their way.

Not a chance. Our policy and this commander-in-chief's policy, the policy the Neo-cons, is Israel's policy.

I just don't think everyone is aware of that.

Liberals
Like all liberals, Obama will float with the polls whether it is the correct thing to do or not!

Liberals have shouted the lie that Bush has lied to America so long and loud they believe it themselves. SAD!

Impeachbush
Thanks for the information from the book. I am afraid you are right. Bush deserves to be impeached. He probably will be. NOT!!!! April's Fool !!! (((Late)))

With all due respect,I can find just as many books favorable to Bush as you can find unfavorable. You do know that, don't you?

Pray tell me. Why do we keep a Standing Military,if not to ever fight? If nothing is worth fighting for outside this country, then we simply need a National Guard to protect us from the enemy.

We do not have a draft. Why are men and women still enlisting knowing they will likely be sent to fight in Iraq or Afghanistan? Is it possible they see the merit in winning this war?

I would wager if Clinton was in charge now,and we were in Iraq, you would be one of his best cheerleaders.

It is sad that you have such a vitriolic hatred for Bush.It only hurts you,not him and makes you look small. You should soften your stance. Hatred is bad for the heart and soul.

impeach
"We already got trauma and that starts with “T” and that rhymes with “B” and that stands for “Bush.” "

Now you're just embarrassing yourself. Are you a former cheerleader, or a songwriter for Fergie?

Poor Pelosi
Always wanting to dictate what the masses can listen to. She doesn't know that ship has sailed, thanks to technology. If anyone, left or right wing, tries saying something false, it is immediately pounced on by the opposition. Dan Rather knows this.

impeachbush
"The impeachment of both Bush and Cheney should have been the first priority of the Democratic majority in 2006. They are a bunch of WIMPS!"

Or maybe they just knew they had an unwinnable case.

impeachbush
"Mention impeachment of Bush and people get all nervous and say things like “oh, we can’t do that. The nation can’t stand the trauma."

Hey, is the bet on or isn't it?

Impeachbush
Peachy Keen...nice try,but no cigar!!! Where did you dig up Doug Thompson? Never heard of him. Probably another left wing Obama Flack.

Did you google 'a book about how Bush lied' to find this? I still don't see the lie. As much criticism as I have about Bush,I don't recall an outright lie he has been caught in........now Barack Hussein Obama...that's another story.

impeach
Still waiting for your answer...

impeach
I can arrange to have my $25K put in escrow if you will do the same, then whoever is right gets all $50K, to be distributed either when Bush is impeached, but NLT 21 Jan 09. Are you willing to do the same?

impeachbush
If you think Clinton's only 'sin'was lying about sex,you must have had a Rip Van Winkle episode. That was the lesser of his many evils. He is still at it,also. I am counting on him coming through for me with The Obamaman, though. He should be good for something.

You have never seen me sing the praises of Bush. He has made many boners, but we have had no terrorists episodes here and whether he had a hand in it,who knows? If so,I thank him.

I don't remember the lies Bush told. Can you inform me of them? Please don't tell me "Bush lied us into war". That's an old lie and doesn't need repeating.

In case you have been sleeping the last twenty years and are not familiar with Clinton's impeachable offenses,do a google search for...The A to Z Guide Of Clinton Scandals....just a partial list, but it will get you started and maybe keep you off the threads.

impeach
I hope you didn't get too much spit on your shoes.

If you're willing, I will bet you $25,000 that W. will not be impeached. Just let me know.

impeachbush
Peachy, are you still using that stupid moniker?Do you have any ides how dumb it looks? BUSH WILL NOT BE IMPEACHED!!

Unlike that old dog Bill Clinton,he has done nothing that deserves impeachment, unless you want to impeach your Democrat Congress.

Who pays you to write this stuff? Soros? Huffy?Kos? They sure aren't getting a bang for their buck!!! You repeat the same stale stuff every day on every column. Like a broken record.

You should be ashamed to have nothing new to add for your employers. They are getting gyped!!
If you are doing it for free, you truly have an empty life with nothing on the brain, except hatred for OUR COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF,GEORGE BUSH.

impeach
"Go Oliver Stone! But the question is how far will he go to reveal the truth about "W?" Will the truth about the 1971 abortion and the TANG AWOL be included in this movie? I doubt it!"

Exactly my point! The FD need not apply here because you are getting your way (liberals smearing conservatives).

Maybe Oliver Stone can make up some more Times New Roman documents like Dan Rather forged his. Hell, maybe he can forge some abortion clinics in Times New Roman as well.

Asuuming your allegation is true, wouldn't that make you want to vote for W? The abortion, I mean?

OBAMARAMA
Obama is a "Clinton baby." He learned from them. He will say whatever it takes to get elected. SO, discerning voters must think, "Ask not what Obama has said about your country, ask what Obama is going to do to your country."
What are his instincts? His are ultraliberal, more properly, neo-american socialism.

impeach
" think you are forgetting about the "Washington Times" and the "New York Post" and "The Weekly Standard" as well as other newspapers and magazines that definitely lean "right" in their flavor and rhetoric"

No, that's why I said the print media is 90% left-wing, not 100%.

But again, ONLY talk radio needs to controlled by liberal facsists. No mention is made of equal time to counteract "The View" or "Oprah" or "The West Wing" when it was on TV.

What would you do about this situation?

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/movies/la-ca-w29- 2008jun29,0,4135766.story

You have a liberal director with two liberal actors playing two Republican presidents. Would the FD mandate a movie being made by a conservative director with conservative actors about a liberal president?

Chris
Maybe, but Rush Limbaugh probably peaked DURING Clinton's term. Something to think about.

time to reap
Unfortunately, the past 8 yrs that the GOP radio personalities and fox news have had to mercilessly bash the DEMS, may be coming to an end. The fairness doctrine may come, but if the DEMS win, fox news and conservative radio better brace themselves. The blowback will come 100x worse, and it may be even worse than that since a black man will be in office. The race card will be used as a machete and a guillotine against supporters of the GOP. No wonder the GOP wanted to run against Clinton. Obama is landmine. Its going to be a long year or worse 4yrs the GOP.

impeachbush
"The local radio stations that are promptly bought up by "the vast rightwing conspiracy" to shut up the shows like Air America. "

Let me see if I have this straight: Liberals have 90% of print media, all TV news, CNN, PMSNBC, and (taxpayer-funded) NPR on their side.

Conservatives have right-wing radio, and (debabtably) Fox.

So it isn't really fairness you want, it's unanimity. If the FD were actually law, you realize that would require a half-hour of a conservative aftr Katie Couric, half the pages of Time devoted to conservatives, etc, right?

"Obama is giving a great speech right now on MSNBC and FOX on "Patriotism!" Check it out!"

He does excel at public speaking.

impeachbush
No one makes you watch Fox, and no one makes me watch Katie Couric.

I'll make this simple for you. Pretend there was a talk radio host who routinely talked about the moon landings being faked. Would anyone take him seriously?

In the same vein, if any talk show host says things that are implausible and/or wildly unpopular, he won't be listened to, then the station won't get sponsors, then his show will be canceled. So the market is pretty much self-regulating.

FD
There is something brazenly transparent about this whole thing.

Look at the forms of media: printed material, Internet, TV, movies, and radio.

The Internet has anything and everything. Most large newspapers such as the NY Times are clearly liberal. Ditto for many magazines such as Newsweek. TV and movies are a mixed bag but lean left.

Now, of all the forms of media, Congress (disregarding the 1st Amendment entirely) think ONLY talk radio needs to be regulated. Not Katie Couric, not Michael Moore, ot Keith Olbermann - JUST talk radio! Does that seem odd to anyone but me?

And who exactly is stopping liberals from having their own shows, like on Air America?

Liberals are basically saying in the case of Air America, it's 'unfair' that the Super Bowl gets better ratings than reurns or Three's Company, so we nede to regulate the media. Well, not all media, just the conservative outlets.

I rant and do so freely
And know I am ranting.
Its all that left in my power to do.
Reason will not work today, and its useless to try and break through the Iron Will and Curtain of the people today who have no respect for Law and Order.

Our society is already in anarchy, and this anarchy is being promoted right out of Washington DC

There is no free speech in America
You may say or write what you want, but if you write or say anything that the main stream liberal media disagrees with you will be attacked and ridiculed, and reffered to as a hate monger a racist,a homophobic,an evil person, part of a vast right wing conspiracy.Speech is only free if you agree with the liberal media. If you do not believe this ,why are we all forced to watch CNN in airports, when fox news has a much larger listening audience ??The liberal talk shows fail because they just regurgitate the liberal media spin.People are hungry for hearing from the other side of America, this is what the liberals want to silence. The liberal media wants a monopoly on speech in America. What are you all so afraid of???

The 1st AMENDMENT means what it says:
Congress cannot make any Law.
NO Law
NONE.
Zero Law
To IGNORE the 1st Amendment in its DEMAND, not a request is an outright CRIME!

To go ahead and pass a law concerning speech or the press, is a CRIME against the United States Constitution.
Its the LINE drawn in the sand between LEGAL AND ILLEGAL.

Congress has been BARRED FROM MAKING ANY LAW ABOUT THE PRESS OR SPEECH, PERIOD.

This issue is not a confusing one at all, it the most clear Amendment of them all/
Congress shall make NO LAW.....

American Cities look like Africa
Bangladesh, Mexico, Honduras and NO longer look like American cities as they were once upon a time.

Inner Cities were safe for men, women and children, and thats the God's truth.
No longer safe for anyone, except maybe, day time hours, as crime runs rampant.
That is where all the hate is, the murdering for the majority.
The Cities, run by "minorities" who cannot think past their OWN skin tones and harbor hate .
Promote hate, extoll hate, applaud hate, and then blame it on everyone but their own selves.
You minorities are the hypocrites, the haters, the bigots, the racists.

You have left the message of Dr King for the message of racism, marxism, and afro centric bs.

Instead of judging a man by the content of his charactor, as Dr King believed in, you are all about your skin tones, and to hell with individual character virtues.

Evil proceeds from the wicked man, not the righteous.
DO RIGHT, yourself.

And lets LOOK at results.

Of course it is, so hopefully we do not need to debate that much, and can find an equal footing as two free Americans with agreement on this fact of life.

Not what it does to the whites, the browns, the reds, the blacks.

I have NEVER known a white man in my life who wanted a policy based in the color of his own skin.

All accomplished by "good intentions" that ends up bringing wicked RESULTS.

right on Impeach!
I love hearing the facts that are completely buried by the right. Oh, let's blame the "Liberal Media" for not mentioning Bush's illegal abortion.

Who owns the media? About five corporations and all the advertisers who want to increase their profits so the company executives can increase their wealth. Those who have supported Bush for the last eight years are directly and 100% responsible for the mess we are in. Permanent war, oil prices skyrocketing, middle-class desperately clinging to their debt (just wait for the flick of the switch, which will throw them all to the wolves of Capital, and the middle-class will beg to be bought out by the vastly more wealthy beneficiaries of this puppet regime!)

I say we start a campaign - NEVER AGAIN! I think the current economic holocaust will make it very clear what we are talking about. These cons need to be declared what they are: criminal.

Let them bring back "fairness"
It is a patently unconstitutional law, and would be declared so in the court after a cursory reading of the first amendment.
Issue over forever.

Deeply held convictions
in one so shallow just have a different meaning.

Mr. Obama is becoming quite conservative. It won't bother his swooners much, as they care not about policy (only the personal). Like Lilly and the King, they're just nice well-meaning people, and they'll vote for him and care not what he actually does.

Once in office though, some of his big power backers might expect him to do the agenda they put him there to do.
That's the bothersome part. Some of them are not nice guys. He would not be the first politician or president to have that problem.

Lilly - your arithemtic
Yes, you have 2 pieces of fruit.
The issue is whether you allow the government to decide what any business will or will not sell. You would apparently force people to carry oranges even if no one wanted to buy them.
Without the fairness doctine, a guy is still free to open an orange store. But you would cause the apple store to lose money in order to conform to your ideology.
Surely you do not believe that would be right.

Dixiecrat
Do not assume the posts of one or two morons represent the world view of most white republicans.

And talk radio does not-on balance-hate blacks. It is a venue where blacks are regularly told they can do anything...BE anything.

It is not conservatives telling blacks routinely that they can never get ahead in this nation without the government to help them. I, for example, do not think you are too stupid to get ahead on your own, even to overcome the racism that still exists. Many democrats however insist that without them and their programs you will never succeed.

Here is the irony: I live near Philadelphia, a city that has been run pretty much exclusively by liberal democrats for decades. The blacks in that city are still upset about all of the injustices and problems they were upset about in the 60s. And who is to blame for all this? According to city democrats it is the republicans who have not held any real power in the city for decades. The same thing is reflected in most major US cities. Blacks-but most specifically democrats-blast republicans for all the ills they have been suffering for years...republicans they never elect to office. City councils and mayoral seats in most of these places have been ruled by democrats, so if there is still institutionalized racism there, you might want to question the liberals you elect rather than the republicans you dont.

Fairness Doctrine
This definitely is bad news. My friend - a voracious student of history - said that when the Nazis took over Germany, they started by censoring views opposite to theirs. I remember the newsreels in the theator of the Nazis burned books from homes and libraries. Also, they confiscated all the guns from the citizens - leaving them defenseless.

It's not Obama I want to stop. It's the "leadership" of the democrats in the Senate.
Pelosi is frightening and I think either power has corrupted her or the fear of losing power has done so.

Parasites

Could you imagine what would happen if liberals tried to keep a talk show going for 3 hours a day for multiple years? I mean, after all, what do they have to offer? Even when it comes to message boards they have to come to conservative sites because even they can't bear their own kind. It is a parasite and host relationship. I am trying not to stoop to name calling, but they truly are parasites who attach themselves to a larger, healthier animal that unwittingly provides their nourishment. I could not bring myself to frequent a liberal site, but they sure do like the conservative sites and the attention it brings them. What miserable and sad people!

I reply to none of them directly, and I simply let their impotent and inadequate jabs boomerang back on themselves in silence. If the rest of you would leave them alone they would eventually leave since it is the attention that they crave, but that’s your call if you enjoy the verbal sparring. Personally, I haven’t the interest or desire to engage them just so they can hear themselves talk and cast their insults. When certain names appear on the boards, I automatically pass over them without reading a word since I would rather not get dirty or feed them. Like a stray cat starved for recognition, if you feed them they will come back. But again, if you like returning pets, simply keep feeding them.

oday's Peggy Noonan column has a revealing statistic: in Google News there are currently 138,000 news articles on Barack Obama and 97,000 on John McCain.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The vast majority of campaign stories have to mention both candidates, if only to report on the other candidate's response to another's volley. This statistic alone tells us nothing about who's in the "lede."

So I decided to try an experiment.

I searched for stories that mentioned Obama but didn't mention McCain in Google News. 69,473 stories.

And stories that mention McCain but not Obama? 19,135.

That's a stunning 3.63 to 1 ratio. Read on.

The fairness doctrine
Evidently there was a law that required equal time on the airwaves at one time. That law was unconstitutional, clearly and never should have been in the first place. McCain/Feingold is unconstitutional as well. The elites would have us believe that only a person with a law degree sitting on a judicial bench would be able to make the distinction. This is not true. Anyone with a high school education can tell if the first amendment has been violated. They take us for fools and cowardly fools at that.

The Unfairness Doctrine.
Who needs The Fairness Doctrine? The entire Republican Party needs some kind of buffer against all the television news media, except Fox,which is balanced,NPR on radio,Public Tv,most of the Big City Newspapers and 95% of the entertainment Industry.

If the Fairness Doctrine becomes law,it will not benefit Republicans. The idea is to shut down any discouraging word from the right against the left. Think we have it bad now? You ain't seen nothing, yet.

We will hear nothing negative about the left and nothing positive for the right. This is no exaggeration. It is almost that bad now. The Fairness Doctrine will be the death of any reasonable opposition to socialism/marxism.

Hate group numbers continue increase
"Energized by the rancorous national debate on immigration and increasingly successful at penetrating mainstream political discourse, hate groups in America continued to grow in number in 2006, rising 5 percent over the year before to 844 groups.
That increase translates into a 40 percent jump in the number of groups since 2000, when there were 602 hate groups operating in America, according to research by the Center's Intelligence Project. Much of the expansion has been driven by hate groups' exploitation of the issue of illegal immigration, which many Americans see as a pressing concern.

Last year's hate group growth came despite continuing disarray on the neo-Nazi scene, with various relatively weak groups vying for dominance; a series of embarrassments, including the arrests of two key leaders; the deaths of many stalwarts of the white supremacist old guard; signs of a splintering skinhead alliance; and the absence of any single major group working to unify the others.

At the same time that hate groups continued to proliferate, the United States has seen the breathtakingly rapid rise of a right-wing anti-immigration movement made up of groups that are xenophobic but mostly stop short of the open racial hatred espoused by hate groups. In just the past two years, some 250 new nativist organizations have sprung up, some of them armed and engaged in vigilante round-ups of unauthorized Latino immigrants. More and more of them have taken up the tactics of personal, in-your-face intimidation."

http://www.splcenter.org/center/splcreport/article.jsp?aid= 238

Why don't the right-wing radio idiots talk about this issue? Better yet, why don't the so-called Liberal Media talk about this issue? Oh, I forgot, if it do not affect whites, it's not an issue.

"40 percent jump in the number of white hate groups since 2000". Wow.

What does the left have to complain about regarding their ability to get their message out with the media as it is now, you ask? You put your finger on it exactly when you said, "When they get a little competition, from Fox, they fall apart". Why does the left on college campuses always try to disrupt the lectures of conservative speakers, like Ann Coulter and David Horowitz, and try to keep them from speaking at all? For that exact reason: when leftists actually have to DEFEND their worldview, they can't. A Boston Globe columnist named Don Feder several years ago explained the REAL reason liberals hate talk radio: because it's the one element of the media THEY don't control, that they had all the rest of it, and the last thing they wanted was an open marketplace of ideas; they wanted their monopoly back. As you noted, liberal talk radio can't BUY enough listeners to stay on the air - and more importantly, nobody who broadcasts for a profit, as almost all non-government broadcasters do, is going to air people that nobody wants to listen to, like an Al Franken or a Jeannie Garafalo.

It's the same reason the communist regimes shut up their critics with firing squads or the gulag: they KNEW they couldn't defend their philosophy as it translated into actual policy before their peoples, so they simply tried to muzzle anyone else who had a different philosophy on how to run their countries - different philosophies that, gasp(!), might actually be more appealing than what the communists offer. This is the totalitarian mindset at work - which characterizes a lot of liberals today. As Thomas Sowell has written, a liberal is a totalitarian with a human face.

Fairness Doctrine
This is the kind of trash that our federal officials, and wannabe officials choose to spend their time on. The democrat nut cases can't compete in this either. So, in line with their usual style, they'll try to legislate. In any event, if the maniacal democrat liberal airheads are involved, the word "fair" becomes taboo and embarrassing.

The 12 hours for real decency will be on air in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping.

"Fairness"
The Fairness Doctrine is not what it sounds like. What I don't understand what in the world do they have to complain about. The most of the print and TV news is in the tank for the left. When they get a little competition, from Fox, they fall apart. The left tried to get a news talk radio going, Air America, with the idiot Al Franken. Who's IQ it just a little above a 4 letter word. They couldn't even buy listeners. They tanked because no one listen to them. Now they think if they bring the "Fairness Doctrine" back it would at least be a way they could get an audience. From the right who's shows are very popular. Mizz Pelosi and her cohorts want to control every thing, even hinted at taking over the oil, Maxine Walters let it slip out. Wake up, they want to control everything that we consider our freedom and right in America. There slipping it in under the guise of Global Warming, which is nothing but Big Al's money making scheme, so he can make more millions from his fear preaching.

Propaganda is BAD
If you present only one political view point it's propaganda. Brainwashing stupid close minded people is bad. Uninformed people always make bad decisions (like Jim Crow Laws).

Nazi Dems
Its not enough that the Dems have the NY Times, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, Time, Newsweek, PBS, NPR, etc. etc as their own private propaganda outfits, they now must try to silence the one area of the communications field that they don't own: conservative talk-radio.
As far as I am concerned, they are no better than the Nazis or Soviets: always trying to silence those they disagree with or those that disagree with them.
Its almost unimaginable what a catastrophe we will have next Novermber with a President Obama and the Dems controlling both houses of Congress.
Somehow I can't get that excited this 4th. of July with that disaster in the making next November.

Why do Crooks and Liars hate Fairness?
Who are the crooks and liars?
If you have a free market on your side, why do you need the "fairness doctrine"?

Why do Crooks and Liars hate Fairness?
If you have the truth and decency on your side, why do you fear the Fairness Doctrine?

Fairness
If they manage toget the fairness doctrine re-instated,someone somewhere needs to demand equal time for conservative rebuttal to all the socialist propoganda the networks infuse in each and every primetime drama and sitcom. Just watch any show on CBS, ABC, or CBS, . . always there is a villain in misguided military policy or evil nasty corporate polluters, AGW deniers, or some domestic spiers abusing decent American rights. The networks have the advantage of fiction to put forth loose accusations against conservative points of view. Does anyone believe that an argument that primetime hours must be given to contrary views, ( similarly couched in fiction ), has the remotest chance of success?

If radio stations are forced to give equal time to liberals, who drive audiences away and cannot attract advertisers, they will simply drop Rush, not suffer the losses. To use the earlier analogy, if you insist I sell an orange to everyone who buys an apple, I will opt out of the produce market, and sell dairy products, instead.

Sadly, most entertainers and fiction writers are enrapt by emotion, not reason, so the orange peddlers win, when talk radio disappears.

Radio Free America....
Sorry, it looked like my first post did not make it so I posted it again. Sorry

Radio Free America....
During the Commie era in Europe they had Radio Free Europe I think it was called, broadcasting over the Iron Curtain into the USSR.
Wouldn't it be ironic if Conservative Radio had to broadcast from off shore or from satellites, if that is possible, into our so called land of the free. Wouldn't it be ironic if our Government ordered these broadcasts jammed... Something right out of Chavez's and Putin's and Castros play book. Stalin, Lenin and Marx must be rolling on the ground laughing their heads off...wherever they are....

Fake Navy "Captain" asks:
"Finally...I dont think you know my position on the war...

Anybody who has visited these threads for longer than a couple of weeks and with an IQ above room temperature knows this psychopath's positions on just about everything - as he tries so hard to inform us over and over and over.

Just as there is no doubt about his "position" on President George W. Bush. (B.O., aka Bush Obsession - a particularly virulent sub-strain of B.D.S.)

Wow, I didn't realize that I couldn't use "us" as a group of people who have differing opinions.
Staying the course didn't get 2-3000 Americans killed. Americans were killed because outsiders and/or radicals were attacking them.

And since you want to be defensive, here's my defensiveness:
you said "People like you were saying "horrible" things about those in the 06 period who were calling for exactly what Bush did after he got whipped in the 06 election"

You're right, I can only speak for myself. Why don't you take your own advice and stop speaking for me.
Don't pretend to know anything about me. I've only posted a few ideas in this forum and I've tried to remain fairly civil to you. People "like" me were not saying "horrible" things ... etc. Just as it would be completely wrong to say that people "like" you spit on soldiers returning from Vietnam.

OK then why do you continually use the word "us"...as if you can speak for someone else. Really all you can speak for is "you" unless of course you all think the same way.

How was staying the course "all wrong"?..

It got about 2-3000 Americans killed needlessly. People like you were saying "horrible" things about those in the 06 period who were calling for exactly what Bush did after he got whipped in the 06 election.

Finally...I dont think you know my position on the war...

What is it?

Robert

Actually property rights are the
foundation of freedom. Without that you have nothing else. We gave those up a long time ago. It started with redefining emminent domain from public use to public purpose which can be defined as anything. But h*ll, at least you got paid for your property in those cases.

With the environmental takings they took WITHOUT paying you for it. That is up until the SC beachfront case in which the government took one guys land by not letting him do ANYTHING with it. The SCOTUS ruled that if it was a COMPLETE taking they had to pay him fair value.

So what do the federal and local thugs do now? They make sure that when they find a kangaroo rat living on your land you still get to use at least 5% of it. So they take 95%, you keep 5% and they pay you NOTHING.

I think the Oliver Stone whackos try to say that the Secret Service was in the Towers for weeks setting up the explosives. I would have thought that when the Secret Service was tearing out the non load bearing walls in order to get to the load bearing members, a lightbulb would have gone up on SOMEONE. lol

O'Reilly
damn, I must be an idiot. I think O'Reilly is biased but I like him and I like the way he'll take anyone to task no matter what the political affiliation.
If I remember correctly, I think I've heard him state things that are pretty liberal but I believe you're right when you call him a conservative.
I think in order for him to have an opinion show such as his, the host must be biased or there would be no animosity.

Playing "Fair"
Any sane citizen really want to give the government - whether led by Dems or Reps - THIS much control over the airwaves again??

The fairness doctrine was used by both the Kennedy and Nixon Administrations to limit political opposition. Telecommunications scholar Thomas W. Hazlett notes that under the Nixon Administration, "License harassment of stations considered unfriendly to the Administration became a regular item on the agenda at White House policy meetings." (Thomas W. Hazlett, "The Fairness Doctrine and the First Amendment," The Public Interest, Summer 1989, p. 105.)

As one former Kennedy Administration official, Bill Ruder, has said, "We had a massive strategy to use the fairness doctrine to challenge and harass the right-wing broadcasters, and hope the challenge would be so costly to them that they would be inhibited and decide it was too expensive to continue." (Tony Snow, "Return of the Fairness Demon," The Washington Times, September 5, 1993, p. B3.)

Most Conservatives...
I really believe most conservatives get their info from multiple sources. I subscribe to Rush, O'Reilly, Hugh Hewitt and Prager. Anyone who thinks O'Reilly isn't unbiased is an idiot. He always gives everyone the benefit of a doubt. He never reports any of the garbage the other guys do until he verifies it, then he still says that (Obama or whoever) probably said what he said because he had a good reason.
Fairness Doctrine is crap. The only networks that the government should have a say in is NPR and PBS as they are publicly funded. They are already as liberal as it is possible to be.

That’s so funny, you say that Bush caused the towers to crash.

Well, he wasn’t in office when they were built, so maybe he didn’t control the explosives that must have been built into the towers.

I don’t think he could have gone to the towers and by himself, with no one looking, placed the hundred of tons of explosives it would have taken to do what you believe.

And by the way, what about the thousands of people who would have had to know about it, and to have helped do it? Do you really believe that none of them would admit to helping, or pass the story to someone?

Have you ever been in a building just before it is exploded? I have, and there is no way you could “fix” the building to crash, and no one would see it.

You obviously think that all conservatives think the same way. That's not us. If you've read my earlier posts, you'll see that I don't listen to Rush.
How was staying the course "all wrong"? It was only wrong in your eyes because you disagree with everything about the war.
The surge obviously showed that staying the course was the correct thing to do. And if being against the surge was all wrong, then most Democrats were wrong?
I was conflicted about the war. I knew that we had to go in because Saddam forced our hand. I didn't want to go in because I knew we couldn't not change the way Islam looks at the US. After we went in, we had to stay in because I didn't want to see the people of Iraq put in a position similar to where we left the South Vietnamese. The surge was a good idea in my opinion, it just should have been done earlier (but that's Monday morning quarterbacking).
Now tell me how I sound like Rush?

YOu can kiss goodbye to any real progressive laws or politicians. It will be the first step in taking America toward the European style socialist democracy. You can kiss your grandchildren's futures goodbye.

excuse me?
How was I wrong?
I didn't say conservatives walked in lock step. I said we use the information to make an informed decision. Are those decisions always right? NO. But, without having all the information, the only decision that we make is one that someone else gives us.

Taking up arms would be appropriate . .

I didn't mean to slam anyone who went to public school. I went to public school and even back in 1972 when I was in grade school they were trying to convert me.

Rush
That's the difference between conservatives and liberal automatons. We search for views that WOULDN'T be shown on the MSM and use all this data to make an informed decision. You, on the other hand, want to be hand fed information that has gone through the liberal filters without even considering that there may be other pertinent information out there.
Conservatives don't need the "fairness doctrine" because we already look for alternate views from what the MSM force feeds us.
Liberals need the "fairness doctrine" because they know that if we are forced to listen to those views, the brainwashing will have commenced. Case in point is the Public School System. Thank God most of us avoided the mass labotomys.

Obama is Confused and Dazed?
I agree that whether Obama is a Muslim or not is the business of Obama.

That being said: It does matter to me as an American citizen if Obama is an "apostate" Muslim because then it is the duty of all Muslims to kill him.

That might make security a little tough when he travels to Iran to negotiate without pre-conditions.

That might make security for Obama in the United States tough as there are over 9 million muslims here.

If Obama is a Muslim I as an American citizen would like to know what he is before election time and find we have Muslims trying to destroy America and a muslim POTUS negotiating with them.

If ones father is Muslim that automatically makes one a Muslim under Muslim law - what was Obama for the 27 year period between the time he left the Muslim school and was baptized a Christian?

Obama seems confused about what he is religiously and what he wants to be religiously.

Confusion and not remembering what people were like "Thats not the Mentor Wright I remember" and I listened to Mentor Wright 23 years and didn't know 'what he was teaching' or thats not the 'Tony Rezco' I knew or not the 'Bill Ayers'
I knew.

Either Mentor Wright is a poor mentor or Obama is a poor student - he has no experience and will be learning on the job - Obama better get a better Mentor or someone needs to teach Obama how to learn - QUICK - without a teleprompter he seems confused and lost.

All of this seems to make Obama either playing with truth and having a convenient memory or one dazed confused individual.

Silly lilly . . .
It's been a while, lil, but "stupid is as stupid does" once again . . .

Fairness? You own a fruit store selling only apples and oranges and 90% of your clientele buy apples. Is that "fair" to oranges and their growers for you to be selling something other than what makes you profitable in business? The guy down the street--with the government subsidized passion fruit stand is holding a raffle to keep his doors open selling books and artwork like a PBS clone because some people like the passions or oranges but more like apples and are willing to pay for those by the millions.

"You know, as in 'fair and balanced'. Unless of course you think that conservative opinion will be listened to only as long as it has no competition on the airwaves."

Straw men and oranges? There are reasons Fox, Limbaugh, Hannity, et. al., rise to the top in this media "creme brule." It has something to do with what the public wants to hear instead of what other people think we should be hearing. Conservative opinion is successful on the airwaves; it is the apple of our ears & eyes, so to speak. I'm forced to fund PBS passion fruit cakes and the orange kool aid of the failing MSM is drowning in its own insistence that vitamin C is much fairer than a fruit that perpetually keeps the doctor away daily.

lilly, bringing up "competition" as if popularity was a bane to failing enterprises such as Air America because "conservative opinion" can only survive in a vacuum. Quite the contrary, lilly, because the vaccum of liberal ideas can only survive like cancer cells in a nutritive host environment--kind of like a doctrine which claims to be "fair" because it purports to tell the people what they should be listening to instead of what they want to lsiten to. Apple pie or an orange slushy, lill?

Obama allowed to lie if he is Muslim
If Obama is indeed a Muslim he is allowed to lie and deceive the American citizens to furter the cause of Islam. In fact Islamic teachings caounts it as noble - one of the many differences between Islam and Christianity is lying.
-------------------------------------------------
The word "al-Taqiyya" literally means: "Concealing or disguising one's beliefs, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions, and/or strategies at a time of eminent danger, whether now or later in time, to save oneself from physical and/or mental injury." A one-word translation would be "Dissimulation."

With the above in mind, it becomes evident that a better, and more accurate definition of "al-Taqiyya" is "diplomacy." The true spirit of "al-Taqiyya" is better embodied in the single word "diplomacy" because it encompasses a comprehensive spectrum of behaviors that serve to further the vested interests of all parties involved.

"al-Taqiyya is with the tongue only; he who has been COERCED into saying that which angers Allah (SWT), and his heart is comfortable (i.e., his TRUE faith has NOT been shaken.), then (saying that which he has been coerced to say) will NOT harm him (at all); (because) al-Taqiyya is with the tongue only, (NOT the heart)."

NOTE: The meaning is that the tongue is permitted to utter anything in a time of need, as long as the heart is not affected; and one is still comfortable with faith.

The Fairness Doctrine WILL come up again, and Obama WILL support it. The last thing Obama wants is people telling the truth about him.

The Peoples Dem. Republic of America
The FIRST THING any COMMIE Gov't. [Peoples DEMOCRATIC Party] does, is SILENCE the Opposition. "Fairness" is the Truth-Speak euphemism for Control/Silencing of the Right Wing Media.

Oh my, I forgot an important item

If we reintroduce the so-called Fairness Doctrine, we must make one very important change from what it used to be.

That Fairness Doctrine only required that radio stations broadcast crap, as well as opinions that people want to hear.

The new Fairness Doctrine must require that all people listen to Crap as well as real opinion.

That means you will be required to keep a stop watch, and if you listen to Rush for 14 minutes and 6 seconds, you must now turn to Hate America Radio Network for the same amount of time.

How else do you get the people to hear both sides?

lilly
And I swear you wear no shoes.

Be careful what you wish for because that Fairness Doctrine sword cuts both ways. Conservatives will just openly ridicule liberals on the air. Liberals will be forced to listen to conservatives.

There are plenty of liberal radio shows on the air. Trouble is they are not viable programs because they target a liberal audience that already thinks they know it all and have nothing left to learn. While the militant left may scream the loudest, they are still a minority in this country.

It is not the fault of conservatives that liberals are stuck on stupid.

Years ago, when we had a fairness doctrine, about the only radio talk show on Los Angeles Radio was Mike Jackson, and don’t try to tell me he was for even a moment, fair, or even a little to the right.

enough, enough from me, but I will read your response, if you have one that makes sense.

Your proved yourself stupid

You say — Rush, Hannity, Levine, and many other talk-show hosts are just scripted, info-mericals for the GOP

And then you prove yourself wrong and stupid by saying next —

Remember Rush's "Liberation" moment after the 2006 mid-term election? He said that he felt "liberated"; that he was "no longer going to have to carry water" for those he felt didn't deserve to have their water carried.

Read that last comment of yours, and see what Rush was really saying.

Explain that!!

Radio is about opinions, really

Subject: Limbaugh
I don't listen to Limbaugh because most of the shows are him spouting his opinions.

What do you think Schultz from North Dakota, and the screamers on The Hate America Radio Network, and on NPR are doing?

College is not necessary.

You say: Let me point out that besides Limbaugh, Hannity and Karl Rove are also college dropouts because they couldn't cut it. Yes, they have become successful in spite of their lack of higher education.
----
Well let’s add a couple of names to that list. Bill Gates did OK without a college diploma. He made the most money.

And I was earning my living in the computer business long before Gates was born, so I didn’t retire until I was about 50, and spent years traveling al over the world with my Sweetie. I had the most fun.

It’s not your education, it’s what you know that counts.

And remember, my quote:

The advantage of not graduating from either high school or college, includes the right not to care who wins a ball game.

Oh and by the way, if I had attended colege I would not have learned anything needed for my profession, computers were not being taught at that time.

lib trolls and the media
they already have voices offsetting the conserv talkers. But libs need to have visual stimulation to go along with the dopey thinks they like listening to.

Had air america been simulcast on msnbc 24/7 it would have been a phenomenol success. But the left is comprised of those who are visual responsive as opposed to those capable of thinking in the abstract as evidenced by the success rush has attained and his large audience

Basic Arithmetic
I swear I don't see how you people get your shoes on the correct feet. Listen. If I have an apple and you give me an orange, I then have TWO pieces of fruit. My original apple doesn't disappear. If we have Rush Limbaugh and then we get a Fairness Doctrine saying that a liberal voice must ALSO be heard and as a result we get a liberal voice, that doesn't get rid of Limbaugh. It gives us two voices. The Fairness Doctrine means "equal time for differing opinions". You know, as in "fair and balanced". Unless of course you think that conservative opinion will be listened to only as long as it has no competition on the airwaves.

Did I miss something?
How does a topic go from Obama's attitude about the fairness doctrine to "W" suppossedly going AWOL?

Is jumping topic a new liberal sport?

Woody from Iowa

minky: Why am I NOT surprised?

Poor impeach is not all there... Sometimes the "lights are on" but you can be guaranteed that "no one is home." The head is empty!

And what's worse, this obsession of impeach's is a sure sign of psychosis!

Impeachbush says:
"I don't know why Dan Rather et al. didn't use the following information:

http://archive.democrats.com/display.cfm?id=329"

Well, I couldn't contain my curiosity, so I actually looked at the above webpage. Don't bother people. It's supposedly "proof" that Bush was AWOL, and consists of "deciphering" what they contend must be a pay document. This "proof" reads, in part:

"This document is below. It has no name, but it appears to be a printed copy of a microfiche. The only description appears below the microfiche in ink, labeled as '1972 - 4th Q.'

The top half is difficult to discern, but it could be a pay document of some kind. For example, the upper right corner says "DAILY PAY" and below that 2763, which could be $27.63. But without knowing the name and number of this form, the abbreviated codes it contains, and the agency that produced it, we cannot say for sure."

They go on to say: "Here are some assumptions we must make to interpret the data:", whereupon they give it their "best guess".

I guess it would have been too much trouble to investigate further and actually determine whether their "assumptions" were correct.

I guess they did get a bit closer to the truth than Ol' Dan. I mean, at least they presumably were'nt dealing with a forged document; not that it would make a lick of difference to them.

Happy 4th of July from my blog:
From the Lion King "Circle of Life" Original song: Music by Elton John, Lyrics by Tim Rice
This soaring song cries out for a little Patriotic feeling. I hope you enjoy.

(Chant):
Come on our life is just so sweet here
Oh yes, the USA's a leader
(repeat)

(begin music)
From the day we arrived in this nation
Where from many, we became One
We've loved liberty and equality
To defend our home has got to be done.

There's too much at stake to surrender
For defense: we must remain strong
Hold your banners high
Say "Live Free or Die"
Raise your voice, in pledge and in song!

We enjoy living free
And it lifts us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till a beacon we'll be
The whole world yearning
For our freedom
Our great liberty!

We enjoy living free
And it lifts us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till a beacon we'll be
The whole world yearning
For our freedom
Our Great Liberty!

We don't need no stinkin' 1st Amendment
When they have effected the end of the 1st Amend and put in place the Fairness Doctrine, will we see Thomas Sowell sitting next to Katie Couric on the evening news to give us the news that's not slanted by the left's propaganda?
Not in this lifetime.
Can you say...Pravda??

Obamania
man we know very little about. But what we do know is at least a little scary. In all honesty, with his friends and associates I doubt he could pass a FBI background check. All of his campaign promises are going to cost a lot of money. When he says he will only tax the rich, guess who will really pay those taxes.Thats right lower and the middle class people All I want is people to stop and think before going this far left.

impeachbush

I agree with you.I listen to Rush almost every day, because he gives the liberal view of the situations, and then takes them apart. He is alsu funny, and as he has stated many times he is a conservative first and a republican second. He is constantly criticizing McCain as well as Bush.Just because some people flunked or quit college does not make them stupid.Does the name ALGORE ring a bell?

Early Warning Signs

in the making of a Stalinist:

1. Wants to control political speech

2. Wants to control the temperature in your home

3. Wants to control what you watch on TV

4. Wants to control what you eat

5. Doesn't flinch to recommend stabbing a full grown fetus in the skull to kill it.

Thank God he would have only eight years (none if we are lucky) and that God we are armed (unlike those who were slaughtered under Stalin).

here's the injustice
the true injustice in media is that ALL taxpayers must subsidize the owned and operated media of the LIBERAL Public Broadcasting System and National Public Radio!
To debate that any good programming of either of these PUBLICLY SUBSIDIZED entities would go the way of the trash bin in their absence is pure lunacy and deception; Big Bird and Ernie, along with most other programminig of these entities (inclusive of Moyers and other bad apples of propaganda) would find a private sponsor in no time, and the PUBLIC funding could be put toward the payments of the interest on our national debt.
The Liberals are out there right now, everywhere you look, repeating their mantra of our involvement in Iraq bankrupting our nation, when they have expended more of the taxpayers' money on their little pet projects than Bush could have hoped to have expended fighting for the security of this nation from terrorists' attacks, and this includes the Iraq theater of the global war we are engaged in.

The Operative Word
Mr. Hill makes a point that should be underscored in bold double lines. What the media activist groups "lament" is that which "we choose."

There should be five alarm bells going off in the minds of everyone, over any ability whatsoever, for a minuscule group to decide for the majority, what comprises "fair and balanced."

Propaganda as 'Fairness'
The "Fairness Doctrine" was originally predicated on the technological reality of its time, (1949 originally) that broadcast frequecies were a limited resource. Since advancing tech (e.g. cable) & standards have greatly expanded this resource, this particular justification no longer holds what little water it ever did.

As a practical matter, the FD forced broadcasters to either reduce every controversial issue to an oversimplified dichotomy, (e.g. Republican v. Democrat) or if possible spike it. Remember, news broadcast time is a limited resource too, & onerous 'equal time' rules consume it for no gain.

All thru the 60's & early '70's the network news was this bland, homogenous, trendy elite-approved pap put out by 3 interchangeable networks. The elite metro-Leftist POV from NYC was presented as the national public opinion consensus 'center' & thus need not be 'balanced.' Dissenters were kooks & oddballs. Uncle Walt told us "that's the way it is."

"the intrusion by government into the content of programming ... restricts the journalistic freedom of broadcasters ... [and] actually inhibits the presentation of controversial issues of public importance to the detriment of the public.." Quote from the FCC's 1987 decision to abandon the FD.

Hey folks, if you're so gung-ho on broadcast "fairness" then impose a 'fairness doctrine' on the networks funded & run by the guvamint itself: namely the Corporation for Public Broadcasting! Let's see an enforceable standard & ombudsmen charged with ensuring funding recipients like NPR present 'balanced' 'objective' & 'unbiased' news & commentary! Of course, the only way they could change is to become more conservative! Whatcha afraid of?

Liberals, Fairness?? Ha!
The Liberal/Socialist pigs care less about FAIRNESS! Their entire agenda is control of America in their attempts to turn our Republic into the Socialist/Communist society they love so much!

We true Patriots that believe in and abide by our Constitution, have stood by and watched this happen. Because we do believe in "freedom of speech" and listen to all sides. We don't say much when there is a difference of opinion. But it's way past time we quit being passive with these idiot Liberals!

The Liberal pigs are riding high right now. Knowing that they're close to accomplishing their Socialist take-over. After years of turning our universities and public schools into Liberal, brain-washing indoctrination centers. Controlling most of government and the MSM. They now seek complete control by getting this beast Obama into the most powerful position in the world!

It's time we patriots take a true stand and put a stop to this creeping Liberal disease! This putrefied sickness that has invaded our fine culture. We must stop it at any cost! Even if it takes violent force. I for one, stand ready to do just that if necessary!

This B.S. has gone on too long! Enough is enough!!

talent scout

Agree with talent scout that the 1st Amendment is quite sufficient. I note without irony that there is no mention of "fairness" nor of "diversity", nor of "evolving standards of decency" anywhere in the Constitution.

Use of such subjective notions as the basis for law, "public policy", or court decisions is extra-Constitutional and invites tyranny.

My standard of decency, fairness, and diversity is quite simple: respect individual rights and leave us alone!!

By the way, individual rights is a redundant phrase - rights only belong to individuals. There is no such thing as "group rights".

Bush talking points?
You've got to be kidding me. They agreed with leadup to the Iraq war. Democrats in Congress agreed with it too, does that make them Republicans? As for the right wing conspiracy of buying up all the radio stations, um I don't agree. Get George Soros to buy up the radio stations. He won't buy them because he knows he can't make money off them. The only liberal talk show host that I've heard that is worth a damn is Alan Colmes and I still can't listen to him for an extended period of time.

Fairness?
The highly flawed and unconstitutional concept of the "Fairness" Doctrine has a major problem. An agency of some sort will have to police the airwaves and decide what comments are left-leaning and which are right-leaning and time the duration of the supposed biased comment in order to establish the appropriate rebuttal time. Will they also then have to establish how far left or right the comment is and monitor the response for the appropriate degree of political content?

How could anyone believe that it is possible to put together an agency that could perform this job in an objective, unbiased manner when there are people out there who believe that raving left-wing lunatics like Olbermann and Moyers are moderates.

Anyone who thinks that the Fairness Doctrine is a good idea needs to read and re-read talent scout's post of 1:12 a.m.

Lilys
Good morning. LOL, I just have to make mockery of all the lib pols names. They are so inviting.

Anne

Good morning to you as well. Yes, they will try to bring it back when O'Vomit is in office and they have 60 seats in the Senate.

At that time we will be dependent on which side of the bed O'Kennedy gets up on.

impeachbush
just when i thought you couldnt get any stupider!

Al Franken is a comedian--and a very good one

Hey your mom's calling , its time for breakfast

Go away and let the adults talk.

impeachbush
"When I'm driving and don't want to listen to music on 106.5, the only talk shows available are on 1100, 1420 and 647 (WHLO out of Canton). When I get too far from Cleveland, I cannot pick up NPR."

BTW, does NPR carry any conservative talk shows? I have never heard any on NPR which is probably why I don't listen to it. Just curious because I thought NPR was subsidized by the taxpayers and if it isn't 50/50 liberal/conservative then that's "unfair". But as I said before, I could care less because I can listen to whatever I want to listen to.

impeachbush
Rush, himself a college failure,

Yes i can see where that really has held him back in life.
I'm not a big Rush fan but you cant deny his success.

impeachbush
Dan Rather did NOT lie about George W. Bush going AWOL in the Texas Air National Guard. Unfortunately, he just was not able to prove it.

The person behind impeachbush is a child molester and has sex with family members, Unfortunately, I'm just not able to prove that.

Loco:
For those of you who criticise his format, I ask the question,"Why should he change to suit your preferances? What is the incentive?"

I'm not negatively criticizing his format, it's just not for me. And I totally agree that he's making money from his sponsors which is why he's still on the air.

Al Franken
Al Franken may call himself a comedian but I've never really thought he was that funny. Even his Saturday Night Live skits were deadpan. Some people like him....I think the funniest thing about Franken is that people will actually vote for him.

WOW
A comedian. So that's what Air America was all about. I guess their punch line is... well, silence.
But conservative radio is having a good laugh about their "competition."

Good Morning Anne
20 minutes late, but in fine form.

Making comments on Limbaugh's show
seems to be the task of people who don't listen but seem to hear about him from others. If you listened, you would know his is a commentary show meaning he does not report straight news. He will also tell you he seldom has guests except for those supporting his positions, but does take daily calls from listeners some of whom are liberals.

Limbaugh's format must be what people want because through the years, he has not lost listenership but in fact gains. He has no trouble finding sponsors so radio stations do well airing his show.

For those of you who criticise his format, I ask the question,"Why should he change to suit your preferances? What is the incentive?"

Change the station if you don't like him but do not resort to trying to prevent his show. Would that be the American way?

ombudsman
I'm still trying to understand why we need a fairness doctrine. Who is being denied airtime? Radio stations are in the business of making money. If a liberal talk show host can bring in revenue, there is no way he would be denied a show. Are ABC/NBC/CBS going to have to provide equal airtime on their news programs to conservatives? Are the mainstream newspapers going to have to hire a conservative editor to work along side the editor they have now in order to make sure all their stories have a 50/50 split?
This is why the "Fairness" doctrine is a sham. Liberals have the ability to hear liberal content anytime they want. They can watch ABC/NBC/CBS or they can read the NYTimes or LATimes or any other mainstream newspaper. They also have the DailyKOS or any other website they want to visit. Conservatives have Fox and blogs. How is that unfair? Seems kind of slanted to the liberal side but to me that's fine, I'll get my news from where I want to get it. I still have a choice.

impeachbush
You listen to Hannity? Why would another Dennis the Menace, sixties retread, Communist wannabe, pseudo intellectual, true believer, proletariat poseur from Ohio listen to Hannity?

Mr. impeachbush
If you read here at TH much, you'll know that not everyone who calls themselves conservative are enamored of Bush. Actually, his one achievement may end up being two viable Supreme Court justices. But, for you to insinuate otherwise is disingenuous and only looks like you're a hired "gun" trying to make talking points. I haven't watched Hannity for two years now, but at least Hannity and Combs get multiple views on their show. And, if you're "remote" adept, you don't have to listen.
So now that you've vented about the conservative "brain washers" let's hear you serve up the same fare for the other side. Start with Al Franken. We're all listening.

Vic_#6 @5:11AM: SPOT ON! Every word!

"Currently they only control the 4 networks and those are dying off as we speak. When this is implemented look for something that controls the internet as well."

Make no mistake about it!!!

impeach: HELLOOOOO, anybody home there?

Bush is not running for president!!!!!

It might be a very good idea for TH to provide a "Flag as Truly Stupid" just for impeach!

It is a lie; I said so
Dan Rather lied, we know it, he's been gunning for GOPers for a very long time. I merely have to say it to make it so, just as the opposite view (by impeachbush) is true by mere utterance.

Really. It is kind of embarrassing to stoop like this, so I appologize.

Libs generally don't trust the unregulated actions of their fellow man thus they are far more inclined to regulate in hopes of avoiding difficulties like opinions (or truths (or actions)) in conflict with their own world view.

Limbaugh
I don't listen to Limbaugh because most of the shows are him spouting his opinions. I don't remember ever hearing a guest on one of his shows. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that but it's not what I want to hear.
Yes, Sean Hannity will speak over his guests but most of the time it's because they won't answer a simple question. And yes he can be obnoxious. My wife is tired of him saying the same things over and over again. I just like him....what can I say hehe.
Alan Colmes is a bigger offender in that department in my opinion.

Vic
Good Morning.
Distortions of people's names are not generally my thing, but "Pelousy" was worth a chuckle. She must have some kind of competence i can see no overt trace of. She is in a coveted position of power, so she has got to be a capable pol. Her solutions to problems are so crazy, though, she is the perfect example of the political conundrum. To whit; Are these pols so stupid they really believe the PC BS they are mouthing, or are they cynically, and with great craft, misleading voters to maintain positions of power and affluence.

Bush
Bush is a lame duck President. When are you going to stop whining about him? He's not running for President again!!!!
As for blaming him "On protecting our nation when the worst attack on our soil occurred on HIS watch", why don't you attack the real cause of the problem. He was in office for 8 months when the attack occurred. Do you seriously think that the attacks were planned in that short a period of time? I guess Bush was responsible for North Korea making nuclear weapons too?
Damn that Bush man! He's messed up the whole country! Gimme a break.

Liberal radio not allowed??
BS. Liberal radio is not economically viable because they cannot get sponsors. Sponsors will pay for advertising on liberal talk radio if liberal talk radio had an audience.
I used to listen to a radio station out of Los Angeles that had Hugh Hewitt and Bill Press as talk show hosts. Hugh Hewitt brought liberals on his show and allowed them to speak. Bill Press would have conservatives on his show but would talk over them. THAT'S why more people listen to conservative talk radio. Conservative hosts let the audience hear the liberals talk and allow the listeners to make their own decisions about the information. Liberal hosts want only THEIR voice to be heard and, by God, they WILL listen!
I couldn't listen to Bill Press' show for more than a half hour before turning off my radio and I suspect a lot of people were just like me.

Jeff
The problem was that in the past what this meant is that if you carried coverage of say "a protest by a group against abortion" you would have to give equal air time to some group who supported abortion. Not "your comments" but actually give them air time.

The net effect was that no shows carried any coverage except liberal coverage because the courts didn't consider liberal things "controversial" and conservatives did not warrant equal time.

This entire thing of "fairness" was an FCC doctrine from ancient history and believe it or not, in those days the actual intent was for fairness. That all went away in the 60s. Reagan did away with it by executive order.

The congress started talking about bringing it back but while the Republicans were still in control they passed a bill forbidding allocation of any money for support of the fairness doctrine.

Currently Pelousy is the only one talking about bringing it back seriously. She doesn't yet have the support......that's yet.

Telling the other side of the story
If the fairness doctrine (or similar) is put into place it would be up to every commentator to offer the other side of the debate. I would be willing to take on that role for anyone who needs me. I'd state what the liberal position is using their words as much as possible and then loudly state my support for the consequences of those actions. Comparisons and praise for famous figures from the 1930s Germany and Russia would be promenent.

Empty Pool?
Jim writes:

"What if you tell me, “I am going to do a high-dive into that swimming pool,” but when you get to the pool you find it has no water, so you don’t dive. Now, do I call you a liar for saying you would dive, but didn’t, or do I think you are very smart for looking at the situation, and making a proper decision for the circumstances that existed at that exact time?"

What if you tell me, “I am going to do a high-dive into that swimming pool,” but when you get to the pool you find it has nice, clean water, but you don’t dive. In fact, your worst enemy is diving from the high dive as he said he would. Now, do I call you a liar for saying you would dive, but didn’t, or do I think you are a pu$$ie for looking at the situation and making the decision to wimp out due to the expediency of the moment?

Mr. Obama
I agree with you, Mr. Hill, that Mr. Obama cannot be trusted to stick with anything he says.

Unfortunately, considering his track record of collaborating with the Dems on "finance reform" and "The Gang of 14" deal, I don't trust Mr. McCain, either.

Still looking for a real candidate.

Jim
There are several reasons a politician can have for changing a stance. Take your swimming pool example. A pol says he is going to dive into a pool, gets to the board, sees no water, and does not dive. Some possible explanations:
The pol knew there was no water in the pool, never intended to dive, made the dive statement hoping to look brave and competent, however temporarily.
The pol made a stupidly rash promise involving a situation about which he was ignorant. Upon learning the obvious, he prudently chose to avoid injury.
The pol had every intention of diving, but unforeseen changes in the situation gave him the choice of standing by a rash promise, or choosing to renege on his word to take advantage of a more beneficial situation.

Who knows where Obama fits in here?

Our Republic will survive.
Except for indicating some unhappiness among proponents of the "media reform movement" over what they claim to be a lack of "diversity"(I utterly despise that word now), I don't see anything in this article about what they would specifically do to address this supposed lack of diversity.

We know what they would do on the "Fairness Doctrine".

With the internet out there, I am not as worried as some are about this.

The marketplace should be making this decision.

That is why I am opposed to the Fairness Doctrine.

I suppose one can worry Obama, if president, might renege on the pledge by his press secretary Ortiz on not pursuing the Fairness Doctrine, but I just don't think that is on his list of priorities...and even if it were, the "conservative message"(such as it is)would still get out via the internet.

I dispute the idea that talk radio is invariably "conservative".

Being lap-dogs and cheerleaders for any and all policies of G.W. Bush(on Iraq, government spending, intrusion upon our civil and constitutional rights, and other matters), is antithetical to true conservatism, anyway.

But government ought not mandate contrasting views.

Fairness Doctrine is odious. Markeplace should decide.

Make no mistake
Whenh they get the 60 votes in the Senate this will be back. The liberals can not abide the fact that they no longer control ALL of the media as they did in the "good old days".

Currently they only control the 4 networks and those are dying off as we speak. When this is implemented look for something that controls the internet as well.

When all this happens we will be looking for which side of the bed Sandra Day O'Kennedy got up on.

Campaign Harangue

Let’s remember that the way you tell when a candidate is saying something he should not be saying, is when he makes a campaign promise. But what I wonder is, why you believe him?

I want a President who can look at the situation, examine the new facts he has just receive, the needs and wants of the people that he just heard from, then make the his decision, regardless of what his decision was a few minutes or a few months ago. Don’t tell me you will never bomb Toronto, because if Canada ever invades the US, I want you to bomb Toronto!

Remember, his goal is to be elected, and if a change of mind will help meet that objective, so be it, that's what you expect.

Among other things, if those opinions, either before or after he changed his mind are what I agree with or disagree with, tells me a lot about him.

If he changes his mind too often, and too easily, that also tells me something important about him and the advisors he has selected.

Just to repeat a little of my harangue about campaign promises, remember my story of the swimming pool.

What if you tell me, “I am going to do a high-dive into that swimming pool,” but when you get to the pool you find it has no water, so you don’t dive. Now, do I call you a liar for saying you would dive, but didn’t, or do I think you are very smart for looking at the situation, and making a proper decision for the circumstances that existed at that exact time?

Bigotted democrats
I think it's interesting that the fairness doctrine allowed the extreme rascist,JB Stoner to say the N word on TV when running for governor of Georgia back in the 70's.

If you don't like it, change the channel
That's what all the Howard Stern fans used to say when he was on the radio. That was lib speak for freedom of choice. Now they screech that we need 'fairness' on the radio waves in a point counter-point way of destroying free speech. The public owns the air waves and it should be regulated, blah blah blah.

Give me a break libs, stop hiding behind your well organized lie and say what you mean.

As for our side, we need to be just as organized and start fighting back as hard as they are. Although, we'll have to do it when we aren't working to support all these 'victims'.

As for NObama, he is an empty suit puppet boy. Hey commie libs get your heads out of the sand and really see what is going on. Like all good muslims he knows how to lie. And if he gets in, we are surely doomed.

We have a Fairness Doctrine
Its the 1st Amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

What is in this Congress does not understand?

"Congress shall make no law"

Any law they make is illegal, and we all should bring charges against any of them that vore for such a law and have the gall to vall it "fairness doctrine"

Screw their doctrines, and their laws.

Predicting Obama
It is hard to say with any degree of certainty what Obama will do. He is an ambitious pragmatist, which means that if he gets enough bite-back, he will abandon a course of action and go on to something more profitable.
