Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Guess what? It’s “scrutiny time” for Barack Obama.

Mr. Obama was sworn into office as a Senator in January of 2005, and officially launched his presidential campaign in February of 2007. For most of his short, happy, 3 1/2 year life in national politics, he has spent his time and energy trying to “out-liberal” his liberal presidential opponents, and being the “most anti-war” candidate from which to choose.

And it now seems safe to call him the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee. Hillary could, of course, rise again from the political dead (and she‘ll likely remain in the race for the foreseeable future). But it is difficult to imagine that Obama will let what appears to be an impending nomination slip through his hands.

As such, it also seems safe to say that, based on what is known now, he may very well be our forty-fourth President.

So what does the prospective forty-fourth President really intend to do? Let’s start with foreign policy and national security.

Obama’s temper tantrum press conference in South Dakota last Friday, wherein he claimed that he had been “attacked” by President Bush, was very telling. On Thursday, the President had spoken before the Israeli Knesset (the nation’s legislative body), warning against those who would seek to diplomatically engage with terrorists and terrorist states, and calling such persons appeasers. In making these brief remarks, the President made no reference to any particular individual or group or country, and gave no indication as to who he believes the present-day appears to be.

Yet, less than twenty-four hours later, our prospective forty-fourth President was insisting that he was the target of Bush’s criticism. Why? Why would Mr. Obama personalize the President’s generalized and impersonal comments?

Perhaps it is because Mr. Obama has over the course of his campaign equivocated on the issue of dealing with terrorist states. At one point last year he stated that, as President, the use of nuclear weapons would be “off the table” in a conflict between the U.S. and Iran, only to end up changing his mind a day later. Elsewhere Obama has suggested that he would meet personally with President Ahmedinejad of Iran. If the shoe fits, Mr. Obama, …..

In his effort to “strike back” at Bush, Obama reiterated during his South Dakota tirade that “tough-minded diplomacy” and “engaging rivals” have been foreign policy approaches deployed by both Democratic and Republican Presidents, including Presidents Kennedy, Nixon and Reagan. This is true.

But the policy of non-negotiation with terrorist nations is not merely a “Bush thing” or a “McCain thing” - - it’s an “American thing.” And a “rival nation” and a “State Sponsor Of Terrorism” are not the same thing. President Carter understood this, and it was in 1979, during his Presidency, that the U.S. Department Of State began designating some countries around the world as “State Sponsors Of Terrorism.”

Syria was one of the first nations to receive this designation back in December of 1979, and it is still regarded as such today. Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush 41, and Clinton, all understood the gravity of Syria’s status, and these Presidents refused to diplomatically engage this nation or its president.

But never mind thirty years of precedent and bi-partisan foreign policy wisdom. In April of 2007, Obama’s fellow liberal in the Congress, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, did what Carter, Reagan, Clinton and both Presidents Bush knew not to do - - and paid a diplomatic visit to Damascus, complete with photo op’s and video of her exchanging pleasantries with Syrian President Assad.

As for Iran, the U.S. Department of State has designated this country as a “State Sponsor Of Terrorism” since 1984. The past four U.S. Presidents have understood what this designation entails, and have constructed their stance with Iran accordingly. Yet Mr. Obama, caught-up in the fervor of “hope” and “change,” has had the “audacity” to flip-flop on how aggressively we would fight in a U.S. - Iranian battle, and has at times proposed that he meet with Iran’s dictator.

So what does our prospective forty-fourth President really have in mind for our future, and our future presence in the world? He looks and sounds fabulous behind the podium, eloquently stringing together cliché’s before stadiums full of adoring and fawning fans.

But Obama isn’t trying to replace Bono or Tony Robbins. He’s trying to be the President of the United States, and Presidents have to face really harsh realities.

The next President will have to grapple with the fact that some people around the world want to kill us - - and not because Bush is currently President or because of Republicans or because of “rich people” (Obama’s usual targets of wrath). No, some people want us dead for no other reason than because we are Americans, and because ours is not a “muslim” nation.

Worse yet, it is highly likely that the next President of the United States will have to face some kind of really ugly, scary crisis, like our current President did seven years ago.

If Mr. Obama is so easily un-nerved, and can so easily feel personally “attacked” by an impersonal comment made by the U.S. President, how would he handle a literal, physical “attack” on our own soil?

I dunno, Ratas, beginning to look like Chuckles has something to hide! Know what I mean????

BHO's foreign policy & national security
"So what does the prospective forty-
fourth President really intend to do?"

Actually, I'm more interested in what BHO KNOWS about foreign policy and national security.

If his SD speech was any indication, the fool doesn't know anything at all.... and doesn't even have a clue!!!

And, that scares me to death!!!!!!!!!!

Keep writing/fighting on this topic
Thanks for writing another good article on this topic... the debate has just begun and it won't be over until Barack fully answers for his position on having talks with Iran without precondition...

the proverbial choir needs to practice so it will be ready for Sunday, but we have a real long week ahead of us...

we're facing the new younger improved 2008 updated version of Slick Willy...

this side has won on the merits already, but with great help from the media they've won the short term political battle of swaying popular opinion and headlines, so far...

the fights just begun.

How to keep your dignity
You write, "For most of his short, happy, 3 1/2 year life in national politics, he has spent his time and energy trying to “out-liberal” his liberal presidential opponents, and being the “most anti-war” candidate from which to choose."

You expect that twisty misinformation from bloggers, but not from a TH columnist. The fact is, Obama has acted in the mainstream of Dem ideology. If he'd been trying to "out-liberal" his opponents, he would have been a leader in the most immediate exit possible from Iraq, but he has not. There is no easy solution to Iraq, and he has been careful not to be irresponsible.

His health care reform proposal is voluntary, unlike that of Clinton's and Edwards'. If he was trying to "out-liberal" them he would propose a single payer plan with mandates. But he has not.

Instead of creating an inacurate caricature, why not do your readers a service and tell the truth? Certainly there are issues-- such as talking to America's foes-- on which you can disagree.

If you play a fair game honorably, you may lose, but you'd still have your dignity when it's over. That's the kind of new politics Obama has been advocating for years.

Advocating
Obama has been an advocator but not a practitioner...

everytime he yells that someone has attacked him he goes on attack... and apparently nobody even needs to be overtly attacking him for him to rip into McCain or Bush...

He doesn't answer legitimate question, they are just 'attacks'

apparently you've bought his rhetoric , but the reality of his politics is purely divisive...

just the other day I didn't like him for his political positions...now I have become completely insensitive to him for anything he has to say because his political tactics are dirty... now I don't care how he loses

Your false-messiah doesn't practice what he preaches--a different Messiah calls that hypocrisy.

Dear Anne, love your tenacity!

Anne, also love your posts and your humor!

I believe roberta is actually hal. hal was passed over for Col. the equivalent of a Navy Captain, so wobbie, in earlier posts, became the success that hal could never be.

Several of excellent ex-military posters knew who to contact, and now wobbie hal has a choice ~ never mention this asinine farce again, or go to prison.
I truly hope this jerk chooses the latter. I am sure he will quickly make very close friends with many, in the slammer.

I also believe there is a network of paid trolls who post hal's alter-ego from a variety of places, to hide the fact that he is actually our own 'special friend' hal.

The Military passes over officers for promotion when they become too incompetent to perform.
Possible reasons:

Incompetence due to drunken behaviour.
Mediocrity.
Sexually molesting subordinates.
Falling off the bar stool while drinking lunch.
Too many double shots of cheap vodka before 1000 hours.
But, again, I repeat myself.
Hey? Does this sound like our wobbie AKA hal?

it a sunken ship
WHAT I THINK NEED TO HAPPEN IS THAT OBAMA NEED TO GET A LIFE I DONT THINK THE SPEACH THAT BUSH GAVE DERSERVED THE ATTENTION IT GOTOR DID IT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT OBAMA IT WAS A PLOY THAT HIS WIFE AND CAMPAIN MANGER CAME UP WITH SO THEY COULD TAKE THE LIME LIGHT OFF HILLARY BIG WIN IN WEST VIRGINIA THATY ALL IT WAS SO HE CAN KEEP THE MEDIA ATTINTION ON HIM TO ME OBABA NEED TO LEARN FIRST DO SOMETHING GOOD MAKE A NAME FOR HISSELF AND IN 4 OR 8 YEAR COME BACK AND SEE IF HE IS ELECTABLE HE IS NOT READY TO BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

desperation desperation let me count the

reraead huis article. can you sense the air of futility in it? threading its way thriought the whole thing is the hope that one of the words he uses to describe Obams and obamas speech will somehow resound with the American people. anything will do. teell me when bush said he didnt mean Obama in that speech did anyone see his fingers. were thy behind jis back and crossed. mr bush is the most lying prsdient perhaps in out history. as Nact Reagan said (paraphraased) Just dont believe him. he started lying befor he got elected with his support of the kyoit o treaty and othe environmental laws. it got yo be a habit, and now it the norm.he cant even stop lying when it is obvious that it will only take about 7 minutes to discover the lie, as exemplifies by his truly magnificent GOLF SPEECH. WHAT A FIASCO, TRUE, BUT WHAT DOES IT TELL YOU ABOUT THE MAN.

Obama - It's all about HIM
President Bush didn't mention Obama by name in his speech. But Obama is convinced Bush was talking about HIM. I'm not sure whether that's being thin skinned, paranoid, or evidence of a guilty conscience.

Obama, nay democrats, like to say we are 'no safer now' than we were eight years ago. Nonsense. We are so much safer now that we can convince ourselves that there never really was a threat to begin with, and that all our efforts (including the war in Iraq) have come to nothing.

I must have missed all the restaurant, suicide, and car bombings that have occurred in various American cities over the past 8 years. The world is indeed upside down when LACK of attacks are considered a measure of inadequate safety.

Obama as President...
Obama represents all that is wrong with the left. He is the Democrat strawman created to serve all that would damage this country...unpatriotic, grossly ill-informed, untested, full of catchy generalizations, and less than history savy; but "oh" so smooooooth a talker. Soon comes the test of the voter intellence.

Truth-speaker

Not Surprised
I was not surprised BO reacted the way he did. I thought the President was talking about Jimmy Carter, the most recent chit-chatter with nations sponsoring terrorism. But Obama as victim - is that surprising? After all, he spent 20 years with Rev. Wright hearing the same schtick. Is it a wonder that he thinks someone is picking on him? When the few times the press has turned on him, hasn't he overreacted the same way? The whole Democrat Party thinks the black man is victimized. BO is just indoctrinated.

BHO's temper tantrum
Ahhhh...those that do not know history are DOOMED to repeat it. More likely Pres. Bush was referring to (that anti semite and senile) former Pres. Carter in his speech????? Carter had just recently returned from giving Hamas - all together now - a terrorist organization - all kinds of press and legitimacy by meeting with their leader. Lets all remember back to Pres. Carter's leadership/ it was the worst presidency in recent history! His diplomatic style and substance? sounds very much like BHO's. Do we really need to go there again?

Obama as President
After voting in presidential elections for 48 years for both Dems and Reps , if you think Jimmy Carter(who I voted for once) was bad you haven't seen anything. Four years of a total lack of leadership provided by Obama will damage America more than you could ever imagine. To have a degree from Harvard he exhibits a total grasp of naviete and a total lack of responsibility.

To Austin Hill
Concerning Obama and an "attack on our soil". His action will be to reply, "Yes We Can, WE CAN SURRENDER". America hating George Soros will be greatly pleased. Obama is his guy.

To David: Excellent posts, replies 5 and 7.

To Ratas y Ratones and Anne: Nice work on the Robert and Hal Twins. I always speak indirectly to the twins and won't allow them the acknowledgment they hunger for.

To PT: Oustanding post, Reply 12. Every single word right on target! Many thanks.

COMMUNITY ACTIVIST
Can any one give me specifics of just what a "community activist" does? Like day to day - what does a day in the life of a CA look like? And by the way who pays you these bigs bucks to do this?

Obama
Some excellant posts this AM. (Exception granted to #11 who has is evidently in the last stages hydrophobia) One factor is consistant throughout. BHO is without substance on any issue, He is a reed in the wind of liberal politics, the prototype "empty suit". Things are going to get tough for him down the line. Paticularly when folks find out how deeply he is going to get into their pockets.

I Agree With SaulSaul
The Chicago press has done this country a grave disservice by not reporting about Obama's community-activist days from 1983-1988, then 1991-1995. This role smacks of a modern day shakedown artist.

PLEASE VOTE !!!
No matter how you disagree with the way Republicans have run things, it is critical that you encourage EVERYONE of conservative thinking to vote in November! Staying home gives all dems a vote. It doesn't help our cause. Socialism doesn't work..and that is the least of our problems if BHO gets in...and this filters all the way up from the local elections. Just think of Nancy Pelosi in power as SOTH...more havoc to wreak. I think she's gunning for the VP slot.

GWB was fear mongering
GWB as doing what he does fear mongering. Obama was right to call him on it. All candidates for president should face scrutiny. Clearly, that did not happen when GWB was running for office. This article is all about spin and absent of any real policy information. And if negotiating with terrorists is so unamerican, how about Iran-Contra. During the Carter Administration they are holding our people hostage. The Reagan comes into office and we are secretly selling that same terrorist regime arms. Are you saying Ronald Reagan was Unamericans?

Obama-noia
Is it just me or does Obama seem to attack without provocation?

When his middle name "Hussein" is used, the Obama camp screams that the opposition is calling him a muslim.

If Bush belittles appeasement in a general sense, Obama feels the comment is directed only at him.

If ANYONE mentions race, Obama thinks the words are directed at him alone.

I'm no shrink, but this guy seems to be very sick.

OBama is a Phony
Now he puts an American Flag pin on his lapeal.

And his wife is another cool aide drinking brain washed Jeremirah Wright combatant.

Obama vs. Reality
Did you hear Bush's speech?

Did you hear Obama's response?

Bush denounced appeasement, which DID lead to Hitler's attempted extermination of European Jews. This is an important part of history to the citizens of Israel.

Bush did not mention Obama. Bush did not mention the Democrats.

To hear Obama's response, one would think that Bush loudly and clearly named Obama and the Democrats as appeasers, directly equating them with pre-WWII appeasers, like Neville Chamberlain.

Bush did nothing of the sort.

Obama said this at a political rally to whip up support, not as a press release and not as a press conference. It was "misinformation" delivered with the dramatics that we have come to expect from a certain "former" pastor of his. Obama delivered this purposely misleading attack for political purposes.

Yep, he's a new kind of politician.

President OBAMA?
I will say from Jump Street; “I DO NOT LIKE OBAMA and HIS WIFE EVEN LESS” This man just hits me the complete wrong way. He makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and that is from just seeing him on TV as to what HE has said. This is also from reports on what NEWS anchors have said. This man and his wife are trouble with a capitol “T” and as such I will vote for the lesser of the “EVILS”, McCain!... I do not want to but I have no real choice, McCain will win be default in my book.

I see I am not the only one that just flat does not want Obama, as one of his own put this in print: Ken Blackwell - Columnist for the New York Sun….
According to The Book of Revelations the anti-christ is:
The anti-christ will be a man, in his 40s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal....the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything. Is this anti-christ,.......... OBAMA??

Are you sure you want him as President?

Thin-skinned to be sure.
Personal criticism is new to him.

But. I don't know if he would perceive an attack on American soil as "personal".

That's the problem.

Obama needs to be....
listened to an understood. He is a socialist. The most dangerous type of socialist is the rich socialist like Obama. There is no doubt he will bring change. He will tear down as many American institutions as he can.

Liberals And Evil.
What did Austin Hill note in today's column?

"The next President will have to grapple with the fact that some people around the world want to kill us...."

There's the rub for liberals. Liberals don't even like to think about evil, let alone discuss it. One of the biggest liberals in the history of the Democratic Party, Barack Hussein Obama, is running for President. He doesn't have a clue what Austin Hill is talking about.

On the other hand, Republican candidate John McCain understands exactly what Austin Hill means. That's the big difference between the candidates.

Obama deals in useless signs like "Yes We Can" and words "hope" and "change" repeated so often they're rendered meangingless. The man should not be POTUS.

McCain, however, deals in reality. Since America continues to be confronted by some of the most evil people on the face of the earth, it's a good thing he does. POTUS? YES!

Appeasement
BHO is guilt ridden as Jimmy Carter is most likely the source of the 'talking with terrorists' to which Bush referred; and let us not forget Madame Pelosi's self-appointment as Sec'y of State in her trip to Syria to kiss @ss and bash Bush.

Peace through Strength!

“State Sponsor Of Terrorism”
Oh here comes this argument again. Isn't that the State Sponsor of Terrorisn, that got us into Iraq. We've got to take out those Al Queda terrorists and all those weapons of mass destruction. Neither were there HUH. Sorry but that "State Sponsor of Terrorism" a tired old line. And even McCain got caught up with it and had to be corrected on camera on his visit to Iraq. He stated that Al Queda was coming into Iraq by way of Iran and Leiberman had to step in front of the microphone and tell him its not Al Queda its insurgents!. There is a difference in those groups.
Who ever follows Bush will meet and talk to Iran. Talking is better than bombing. Our military can't take on another war. Who's going to fight it may I ask. Our troops are worn down and our equipment need replacing. More dumb Bush talk.

BO = 44?
I hate to concur with Mr. Hill's assessment but there is a very real possibility that Barack Obama could be the 44th President of the United States.

Why?

In his speech at the Republican Convention in 2000, Dick Cheney gave an impressive presentation of the failure of leadership in the Clinton administration. "You failed to lead,” he said, "we will." Conservatives and Republicans, (there is a distinction) expected leadership. Over the past 7+ years, it never truly materialized.

Because George Bush ran with the mantle of his father, "kinder, gentler, compassionate," his leadership style can only be described in kind, "mushy." The American people are looking for a leader (liberals are looking for a nanny). Republicans in elected office failed to both lead and allowed a hostile liberal media to define them.

Republicans in elected office are more afraid of bad press than being accused of taking the lead. Leading on such silly things like drilling domestically for oil, protecting the borders, reducing spending and shrinking the bloated bureaucracy we call government. As a result, we will get Barack Obama, POTUS 44 and a total exacerbation of all the things we now decry. Thanks Republicans, "ya done good."

Community Activist
Community activists do what scum like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton do--run around stirring up s--t and preaching black victimhood. I am not sure who pays them but I suspect that they get FEDERAL grants to "improve the neighborhood" and probably from donations from the black community--those folks who don't have enough to live on so they have to get food stamps.

T.C.
A correction if I may.The liberals do find evil.Whenever a conservative tells the truth about them they are evil. The repubs have rinos and the dems have whinos.

HAHAHAHA!!!
I see the liberals are running around covering for Obama! That was a total rookie mistake on his part and his gaffe drew attention to his weakness in the foreign policy arena. He is naive at best. Which leads me to wonder what else is he naive about.

Royinoslo
You are a typical pie in the sky dupe.

So you just love Obama because he wants to clean up the nastiness! Wow! Like I have never heard that before!!

Politics is not for crybabies. The nastiness has been there since the First Continental Congress. Learn your history and maybe you won't be such a useful idiot. The actuality is that since the inception of this country politics has cleaned up.

For the next 16 years you'll have a democrat in the white house. You will be able to act as traitors by denouncing the President and his policies. I believe those are your words for any who criticize American policies at home or abroad.

Bush is the lamest of lame duck Presidents. He has attempted to undercut his successors diplomatic efforts by labeling it appeasement. Fortunately, he is stupid and has no credibility.

You and other TH posters appear to uninformed when it comes to where Jesse Jackson gets his funding. His organizations have not received any federal funding since 1992. His major contributions come from corporate donations whose listing includes AOL, Time Warner, Turner Broadcasting, Coca-Cola and others.

Contributions from unions and other sources are received as well. Sorry, but no welfare or food stamp recipients were listed as contributors.

His salary is reported to be about $430,000; $120,000 from his church, $260,000 from CNN, and the remainder from speaking engagements and writing fees. You might consider checking before making accusations.
Just a suggestion….

"Some"
"Some"...
That's the word that W used in Israel.
Pelosi and Carter come first to mind.
B-HO hasn't gone to Syria in person....yet.

B-HO starts by going ballistic over a vague word and ends by promising "tough diplomacy"....Sure....
Is that before, or after he pulls out and leaves the fate of Iraq and the Middle East to someone else?

Maybe he was watching CNN......They didn't quote the "some" word, they used a different clip of the speech, and used "Politician" and "Democrat" in their commentary as if W said it that way.

20 years of Rev-Wright's "G-D'n the USoKKKA"- Wuzzat?....Can't hear ya....
20 min after W's "Some..." B-HO is "appalled"
over these "appalling comments."

But he's really not, you know....

This is Leftist Politics at its finest.

The political equivalent of Patton's "Grab 'em by the nose and then kick 'em in the pants."

We'll see lots more in days to come.

Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan Concerns
A lot of comments have been made in this thread stating concerns regarding Obama’s ability to handle high pressure situations, especially the threat of deadly action by terrorists. Not trying to influence your opinions but it does create some interest when Bush’s ability to handle such was hardly questioned during his presidential runs and thereafter. As a matter of fact, many repubs still attempt to justify Bush’s decision to reduce the battle in Afghanistan with Al Queda and the hunt for Bin Laden to attack Iraq due to alleged WMD. Just wondering if you folks feel Bush handled this crisis well and whether or not you feel he was fully vetted regarding such situations prior to you voting for him twice. FYI, I would like to hear more from Obama on how he plans to handle Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran. Perhaps the next debate (with McCain) will give us all better insight on what both plans involve and who is the better candidate to handle escalating global conflicts.

to truth_speak reply#45
This topic has been raised because Barack has said tht he wants to have presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions.

You just stated that Gates suggested that the U.S. creates leverage then try to talk... to say the least the leverage would be a type precondition that would allow the U.S. to talk with Iran from a position of strength...

leverage means make Iran feel very uncomfortable so that talking might ease the discomfort and they might want to listen to us for a change...

Barack wants presidential talks without preconditions, and he has yet to give a legitimate response to the American voters about his position... he has not done it.

instead he cries wolf about being attacked, he responds with attack, BUT he needs to answer this question and until he does this debate on this topic will be long from over...

don't you think he needs to answer the question?
he wants to be president of the United States

but don't worry the 24hr MSM has your back, they proved in this last news cycle when almost every headline accepted Barack's premise that the president attacked him? I'm sure you've had no problem with that premise.

that must make you feel a little comfort, it makes me want to see this junior senator lose at any cost because he is disrespecting you and disrespecting me...

because he won't answer important questions when he is being asked... the reason is because his position is impossible to defend, atleast in the U.S.

LIONHART Reply # 48
One thing is for certain Bush has handled the enemy better than Kerry (the war hero) or Algore (the green prince) would have!!

David, Fl.
Well said. Don't be surprised that the truth will fall on the lefts deaf ears. They are completely incapable of seeing or hearing the truth. They'll only begin to accept it after they grow up and lay down the crack pipe.

We were threatened by a madman who used a WMD
on his own people. To this day we are threatened by terrorists from the Middle East who hate America and Israel.

Concerning your query about how folks might feel relative to President Bush and "this crisis", I will tell you this. I'm thankful Al Gore, aka Mr. Global Warming, was not in the White House during "this crisis". Al would be too busy making sure the environment was not harmed after we were hit in Washington, D.C. and NYC. Brave men and women went down fighting near Pittsburgh seven years ago, also. In case anyone cares to remember.

John Kerry? Forget it. He'd even be weaker than Al Gore. And that's a truck load of weakness.

One more item. Concerning Reply 46, you noted that Jackson's "major contributions come from corporate donations whose listing includes AOL, Time Warner, Turner Broadcasting, Coca-Cola and others." You left out the fact that after the money came in from those companies no charges of racism came from Jackson. The corporations got what they wanted and Jackson got what he wanted.

TC & SaulSaul
What Gore or Kerry would have done is purely conjecture at this point. However, what Bush has done is now historical fact. TC, regarding your comment about the terroists in the Middle East wanting to kill us, I agree.

My point was that the main “Madman”, Osama Bin Laden, was the original reason for us invading the Middle East. After depending on Afghan tribal warlords to block his exit rather than American forces, the efforts turned to Iraq whose dictator was at odds with Al Queda at the time. Bin Laden is now free to re-group and re-focus on his primary target, the USA, while most of our efforts are directed toward combating foreign insurgents who basically joined the war because they see it as a war against Islam rather than us fighting Al Queda and the Taliban; two groups widely known as Islamic fundamentalists who were more or less tolerated by most Islamic groups.

BTW, Jackson served his purpose in early years by posing the threat of boycott to corporations who did not exhibit equal opportunity in their hiring practices. However you may look at it, it was a win-win situation for Jackson and the companies. Jackson’s organizations flourished, he is able to work to correct racial injustices that used to occur more frequently (yeah, I know you hate him for that), and the companies became aware that there were qualified people of color willing and capable of performing in an above average capacity (just as Philly’s McNabb stated, we have to be better than average to even be considered competent).

How he'll handle Iraq and Afghanistan...
If you're waiting for a debate with McCain to discern that, consider what he already said:
First he said he'd pull troops out immediately. Then he said in the first year. Then he said he might know more when he gets a full briefing. Then he said out in 16 months, but he'd send them back if needed.
Sorry- I don't want to hear what he has to say in a debate with McCain, because what will it mean? He's already shown that he'll say whatever it takes at the time.
I already know what's important about his position: that he has no clue.

KarufeI
I try not to respond to comments that are downright filled with stupidity but yours is the only one I’ve read today…..so far. The other comments are legitimate opinions regarding important subjects and debates about differences should always be encouraged. You indicated something about leftists learning what’s right after putting down the crackpipe. I suppose that was back door comment aimed at African Americans. For those who do smoke crack, maybe they will put the crack down as soon as you stop smoking meth. (can’t believe I’m stooping to your level)

To Flag pin or not to flag pin?
I read Senator Obama's book. I thought he seemed bitter and I have to say that his wife always comes off as very negative and unhappy with her life and her country. It also seems that if you say something about Obama in a non-positive light, you are a racist and quite frankly, I am getting tired of that.

It seems all of the nasty comments that we have heard being slung back and forth from both parties, it seems that we have lost respect for ourselves and others. We do have a great country. We are not perfect, but we are great!

SunThe1 - Hope all is well
With Obama, it does appear that as he gets more information involving the war, he has changed his stance. As you may have noted, I am not saying that his plan(s) is the end-all to either of the wars currently going on. A quick pull-out may or may not be the way to go. More details are needed, at least for me, to make a decision. Likewise, I have a concern about McCain wanting to “stay the course”.

What if we stay 5, 10, 15 or more years with Iraq never becoming a stabilized self-governing country? What about the cost in human life (and secondarily, the financial cost)? What happens 20 years from now if we pull the majority of our forces from the area? Will fundamentalists want to regain control at that point? Will the threat of civil war among the different factions ever cease to exist? Will we need to stay in Iraq as a fighting force for the next 100 years? And while we are attempting to stabilize Iraq, will our less than concentrated efforts on clandestine terrorist groups prove to be a fatal flaw in the protection of citizens on US soil?

What about the growing threat in Afghanistan from Al Queda attempting to re-establish itself in that region? How will Iran be handled and is it logical to only use the threat of military reprisal as means to keep them contained?

Oh, yes, there are still many reasons for debate and many questions that yet have to be answered.

'Like your style, Mr. Hill
This is a FIVE-STAR article !!!
There's a whole lot of nuthin' going on in these retorts (well, a few actually qualify as relavant comments).
The one, single most important reality we as voters have to face is that Obama will likely make Dubya look like a Kennedy or a Roosevelt by comparison...by that, I mean to say, if you thought Dubya was "bad" as a president -- "you ain't seen nuthin' yet!"
At least Dubya (and I'm not defending him), had some executive experience on his resume, and a father who was a former president to give him some tips on how to handle the job. Who will be advising Barry if we have the misfortune to see him elected?...Rev. Wright?...William Ayers? ... Mr. Rezko?...Perhaps one of his childhood Muslim pals?...his race-baiting WIFE?!? 'God Help US! This man is the absolute greatest walking, talking example of an empty cup. As Hill says, 'looks great behind a podium, and could probably do a decent Tony Robbins, or Joel Osteen gig...but we're talking about the leader of the free world here, people....It's not just any job...it's THE job.
The only person who truly scares me more than Obama is the other Obama -- Michelle.
I've never voted Republican in my sixty years of life, but this year - if Obama is the Democrats' nominee - I certainly will. Obama is living proof that Democrats are more than willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING (including us) in order to win back the White House. Be afraid, America...be very afraid. If Senator Zero becomes President #44, our nation, and the world, may not survive his devisiveness and incompetence. He is no "uniter." He is a fraud and a charlatan. America may be headed for the worst case of "buyers's remorse" in at least a century...
Can't wait to pay more taxes?...'LOTS more taxes? The O's your boy! (no pun intended)

Sue: You're exactly right!
You're not allowed to disagree with anything BHO says....

If you do... You're a racist!!!!

I too, and sick and tired of that!

Leads one to wonder what you'd be labeled should you disagree with him if he were (God forbid) actually elected to the WH!

Can't question BO!
Hey quit beating up on ole BO! Just because BO's pastor, mentor and spiritual adviser, the Rev oh so Wrong, thinks screwy Louie Farrakhan is one of great men of the this century why would anyone question BO's undying loyalty to Israel? No one should have the audacity to hope to question BO on this subject!

Charlie Gibson should have been taken out and flogged for throwing anything but a soft toss questions at the annointed one, our messiah, the one who will bring change and hope, the one and the only BO!

Doug Giles column about a porn talent show production at Mitchell HS, Memphis, TN, a public high school does not mention it but the school is 99.4% black! Can the media ask BO as the black candidate and a great proponent of increased funding at public schools what he would do, if anything, to the teachers, administrators and students that engaged in this vile production? Does increased funding mean more public funds being flushed down the sewer by the students and faculty at Mitchell.

As a former community activist and being familar with black ghetto culture maybe BO can tell all of us how great it is to have teens humping each other on stage and calling each other hos and p!mps or is it just a black thing that whites don't understand like Rev Wrong's rants about America?

When porno HS talent shows and the SF gay pride parades becomes as American as apple pie we are all in trouble!

HUMOR INDEX
+++++ HUMOR INDEX +++++
HUMOR INDEX: is based on the ability to make a joke, take a joke, give a joke.

They say that George Washington would take out his false teeth and put them on a table for amusement, friendship and laughs. Abraham Lincoln liked spicy French Girl humor and prompted General Grant to give him a few. Lincoln also found humor in the many depictions of him. He was tall and lanky and an easy target for artists to ridicule. Teddy Roosevelt played the Bull Moose act to the maximum and FDR often did the "I can’t hear you!" stunt whenever a reporter showed up stupid. George W. Bush strikes a good balance between the humorous, sublime, and serious frequently mocking the full of dread Helen Thomas type Press Corps.

Humor is an important gauge when adjusting to a person’s character; for example, racial spite and racial jokes quickly determine a low personal character.

HOT STICK
Can anyone believe that photo?

The O'BoomBox looks like he's hosting a Game Show on TV.

It is 100% - every photo of this guy he looks like he has a hot stick shoved up his pass!

Flag Pin
I caught the last half of the press conference on Friday, and there was a siting of the flag pin on BO's lapel. What made him "decide" to where it on that particular occasion? Did any of the reporters bother to ask? I only saw the softball questions.

Naive statescraft
The BEST that can be said of BHO is that he is naive.

To pretend that you can talk to all world leaders with the same approach is ignorant.

You can talk with leaders of Great Britain, for example, about democracy and treaties, etc. because they are above the level of integrity and KNOW what honesty, truth , commitment, and integrity are.

Those below the level of integrity will not keep their commitments unless they feel the stated or unstated threat of consequences for not doing so.

Liberal Fascism
Anyone out there who has not read "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg really needs to check it out. The similarities between the rhetoric of Mussolini and the rhetoric of Obama are staggering.

And its not just me that thinks so. CHeck this out: http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Slate_editor_calls_Obama_spe ech_style_0204.html

Obamba's new "christian" ad, ridiculous!
Obamba is so out of touch with real Christians he doesn't have a clue that real Christians have already been warned about wolves in sheep's clothing; they know if he was a REAL Christian he wouldn’t be gung-ho for live birth abortion or have sat in Rev Wright's racist church for 20 years and his willingness to put Israel in jeopardy by wanting to have tea with Im-a-dinner-jacket of Iran. Heck, seeing his new ad posed in front of a cross with ‘COMMITTED CHRISTIAN” in big bold letters, quite the contrary, just looks OMINOUS - in fact, it actually looks really creepy and blasphemous, antichrist-ish.

Here’s Obamba’s new ad he’s running in Kentucky, where he bills himself as “COMMITTED CHRISTIAN”

http://race42008.com/2008/05/12/barack-obamas-pitch-in-kent ucky/

Based on the polls (Hillary up by 40), looks the bible-clutching, gun toting, beer-drinking yahoos don’t buy what he’s peddling.

Guess someone should tell Obamba most protestant and Catholic Christians know he wholeheartedly supports LIVE BIRTH ABORTION, a sheer give away he is NOT a committed Christian. All for naught Obamba.

Bye-bye la Obamba!

THE ROCK STAR, LOL
of course obama has the lapel pin on now, hey , for after all a muslim is born to do what ever it takes to get what they want, and obama wants AMERICA to hand over to his friends. i don't mean sharpton and jesse, i mean the muslims!get ready if elected folks, fall down on your knees to allah or heads will roll!

Obama and PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION
The media doesn’t understand why Obamba loses the Catholic Christian vote. Let me give them a lesson since they are out of touch with America: It’s called Partial Birth Abortion and Obamba is the leading Senator pushing it through Congress:

Partial Birth Abortion: KILLING BABY 6 MONTHS AND UP

To see images of partial-birth abortion click here:

http://www.priestsforlife.org/resources/dc/index.htm

1. Guided by ultrasound, the abortionist grabs the baby's leg with forceps.
2. The baby's leg is pulled out into the birth canal.
3. The abortionist delivers the baby's entire body, except for the head.
4. The abortionist jams scissors into the baby's skull. The scissors are then opened to enlarge the hole.
5. The scissors are removed and a suction catheter is inserted. The child's brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed.

SO DO YOU STILL THINK OBAMBA IS THE MESSIAH?
DO YOU WANT THIS MONSTER IN THE WHITE HOUSE?

"Ask not what your country can do for you,but what you can do for your country",was a motivational speech."A country half slave and half free, cannot survive",was a motivational speech.Honesty is hard when there is no integrity,as your article shows. The speech last Friday,by Mr. Obama, had no "Tirade",and no honest person would make that assertion. Also, most fifth graders, after listening to President Bush's speech, would understand it's intended "Target".Is there an elementary school, where you live?

Bombing is not the problem, here is the problem:
Too much taxes
Too much Socialism
Too many Communist in our colleges
Too much government in our lives
Too much listening and bowing to minorities
Too much legislating from the Judicial benches
Too much dependency on foreign oil
Too many illegal people in our country
Too many speaking foreign languages
Too many special interest groups buying favors
Too many Democrats that are Communist
Too many quiet tolerant Republicans
Too many Liberal newspapers and TV news programs
Too much murder of unborn babies

(My best to you)

Your questions about the two fronts of the war are unassailable. But they're also unanswerable. Neither candidate could answer them with any veracity, because they are unknowable. Such is war (and alot of other things in life).
Even McCain does not foresee a "fighting" force in Iraq for 100 years, so I think it's unfair to imply that he does.
At issue: in a war, do you fight for 'as long as it takes' (adjusting stratgy along the way), or do you leave when the 'time is up' (according to some impatient folks at home who don't know all the facts).

To be fair, Mr. Obama has not been privy to the entire security story (perhaps- although the candidates do get a briefing, as do much of the senate), as he hasn't been on any of the committees or anything. I imagine his hairline will move back a few inches when he finds out all there is to know.
IMO, he's young, naive, inexperienced and unchallenged. He's got alot of mistakes to make. For our sakes, and his own, better he doesn't make them on the world stage.

Sun the 1
The reason, young voters, support Mr.Obama is quite simple. They do not have a desire to "KILL" everyone, that does not look like them. The world as you perceive it, is full of threats.Your perception is unrealistic and reflects the thoughts of the misinformed. It is with great pleasure, that I announce;Mr.Obama is not for your group.Find a candidate, that shares your views."US" are sick of war and those who still find it a viable option."US" need a "Thinking" president and not a "Warmonger".The world is "Changing",which means the "Fool" population is on the decline.

Sunthe1
Your comments are thoughtful. I have had many intelligence briefings, highly classified at the top levels of the DOD. Every one of them required interpretation based on the facts presented. Two smart people sitting side by side during a briefing can walk away with some justification for positions they champion which may be diametrically opposed in thrust and intent. Often it depends on what you want to believe, not mecessarily what the briefer has attempted to present. Briefings like 911 or Pearl Harbor usually create a consensus; casualty figures like 4000 in 5 years will always mean different things to different people depending on perspective. Such is the nature of most intel--will Obama see intel like you? It will depend on your perspective. Does Obama see intel like me--he never has but hopefully that will turn out as a non-issue.

Article Topic
The subject is scrutiny of BHO!!!!

Doesn't it tell you something when the terorist organization, Hamas, and Iran's leader - I'madinnerjacket - ENDORSE Obama for president?

Doesn't it tell you something when BHO writes in "The Audacity of Hope" he would consider "turning to Muslism"?

Doesn't it tell you something when Michelle Obama consistently denigrates America as a "mean country"?

Doesn't mit tell you something when BHO, after consistently poo-pooing wearinf an American flag lapel pin as a faux display of patriotism, is suddenly now wearing a flag lapel pin?

Doesn't it tell you something ...

I could go on and on, but the point is this man and his wife - and relationships - need to be scrutinized in depth.

David
How many times have you seen Mr. Obama along side;Ford,Biden or Hart?If they don't agree, they can't be "Cohorts".I would have thought the "CO" would served as a Clue.I "Hope",you are not another CLUELESS republican.

SunThe1
I agree with you wholeheartedly that questions regarding the future of war in the middle east are difficult to answer presently. I hope that at some point prior to November, we will have a better picture of the plans of both POTUS candidates and what they perceive as attainable goals. More timetables with expected points of success illustrated so that the American voter can feel more confident about which plan will better keep America safe and be the most effective in the on-going war against terrorism.

To be honest, we cannot be sure that either of these candidates will respond appropriately in critical situations. GW had experience governing the second most populous state in the country and a father who preceded him in the Oval Office and he hasn't exactly been the brightest star in the sky when making extemely important executive decisions.

I'm sure we'll both pray for guidance for whoever is elected because he (or she) will need all the help that is available.

Lionhear #53
I agree somewhat with your assessment.

At the start, the USA had leverage on and could have "forced" Saddam to join the fight to "depose" Obama Bin Laden.

Then, Saddam would have joined the coalition to carry the fight to destroy the terrorist organization in Iran and Afghanistan.

Then, Bush would have been in a position of strength to FORCE Saddam to concede to the demands of the USA and UN. THE BIG BUSH MISAKE WAS DIVERTING THE PROPER CONDUCT OF WAR TO REVENGE.

Why do I say that? Bush Sr's conduct of Operation Desert Storm garnered exceptional approval ratings. He had the opportunity, and Gen. Swartzkof was prepared, to "finish" the war with total victory. Saddam was running scared and desperastely seeking ANY country that would give him asylum. Bush Sr backed down, saying, "We have accomplished our mission", and it cost him reelection. Swartzkof suddenly retired.

The whole world believed Saddam had WMS, and this was the excuse W needed to take revenge on Saddam for his Dad not having a second term as POTUS.

This, of course, is my (as a 20+ yr military man) interpretation of the events and my speculation.

Class dismissed!

"Cohorts" was just a part of the title
I could care less if they used the word cohorts in the title... i think the paragraph below the title had a plenty of enough substance.

Joe Biden, Gary Hart , and Harold Ford Jr are all liberal democratics... actually I think Ford is a moderate. Joe Biden is a liberal with aplenty of foregn policy experience...

Also, Biden had Barack's back this past weekend when Barack took offense to the presidents statements in Israel

could care less if he used the word chorts in the title of the piece...

barack still has to answer for his position with out the help of these guys

OBAMA: ROCKSTAR...?
A RESOUNDING YES, Mr. Hill. MILLIONS OF AMERICANS CALL BARACK ALL THAT!!! JOIN THE CHORUS!!!

David
I think you are right on target as far as revenge being the motivating factor for GW's strong desire to go after Saddam. This is widely believed by quite a few as the cause of this quandry we find ourselves in.

Your suggestion that Bush could've used Saddam in the fight against Bin Laden is a new and interesting twist that I hadn't considered. Maybe you retired too early, my friend.

Political Manicure
I am wondering if Senator BHO has any skin left up under his nails?

I also wonder if his legs are tired yet from having to jump through so many "proverbial hoops"?

Rock Star? I have yet to hear Senator BHO sing a note, strum a guitar, or even dorn a pair of leather jeans with matching sunglasses.

When has the power of ideas become such kindling for cynicism?

I am still yet undecided as an independant voter, but I have been completely amused at the hoops this man has been asked to jump through, the field goals that he has been asked to kick through moving goal posts, the perpetuation of religious alligience rumors even when denied and proven wrong. The questions about associations from those who would never dissavow folks who have said and done things 100 times worse than a retired out of touch former pastor!

Senator HRC has ideas, much baggage, and a dismal approval rating, yet, folk would rather see a "proven liar, self-server/narccicist extroidinaire" in the White House.

Man! I wonder about the requirements that weigh heavier for one and not all.

Gee Whiz Man! Let Us Move On!

O Boombox?
Very enlightened criticism from the bloggers here. I'm surprised the word 'spear chucker' wasn't pulled out of the closet. Funny how nobody made fun of Ross Perot's 'inexperience'.
As for Mr. Hill,'unnerved', 'tantrum'? I'm pretty sure he's talking about McCain. His tantrums make Bill O'Reilly look like he's on Prozac. The unnerved issue is a glaring one for McCain as well. Looks like he cracked as a POW, and there is evidence that he cooperated to a degree.
The bottom line is that the Presidency requires good judgment more than experience. We've had President's that have run the gamut. One could say that W. falls somewhere in the middle of experienced Presidents, with the ones who were VPs being at the top. His complete lack of judgment has taken the country to the brink of ruin (combined with an inability to take counsel). If you're an idiot, all the experience in the world won't make you effective.

BHO
I am not comfortable with a BHO presidency. He has either lied about his association with Rev JW, or has been manipulated to the ninth degree, either option is troubling.

His recent hissy fit concerning his wife and her controvercies is pathetic. Spouses are a very important part of any presidency. Can you see MO telling all foreign leaders she "is for the first time in her adult life proud of her country", what does that say about her patroitism? Hdr country? Her role as first lady? Her role with diplomatic leaders when visiting different counties? How about the foreign policy during the BHO presidency? National security? Military?

Lionheart
Well, just one little point about "timetables" to keep the public feeling confident. That would be kind of like the coach letting the fans know his playbook so they'd feel better. There's that pesky thing called the "enemy".

You wrote: "I'm sure we'll both pray for guidance for whoever is elected because he (or she) will need all the help that is available."

Of that, be assured, my friend. And I feel better knowing it.

Obamas scariest yet
Subject: Obamas scariest statement yet
"Islam can be compatible with the modern world. It can be a partner with the Christian & Jewish & Hindu & Buddhist faiths in trying to create a better world." Barak Obama 2008
Democratic Compassion Forum at Messiah College Apr 13, 2008

compatible = capable of existing together in harmony.
Islam is a 700 AD religion and has NO rights for women.

partner = to join as a partner.
Islam and the Jewish religion partners?
================================================

Of all the things Obama has said this is by far the scariest.

Obama thinks Hamas and Iran can become partners with America and Israel?

“At the “World Without Zionism” conference held in Tehran in October 2005, as the crowd
chanted “death to Israel, death to America, death to England,” the Iranian President
Ahminajead said...with the help of the Almighty, we shall soon experience a world without America and Zionism, notwithstanding those who doubt.”

Obama is talking about negotiating with the madman from Iran who has stated in no uncertain
terms that America and Israel will be destroyed in Ahminajeads lifetime?

OBAMA IS TOO HOOD FOR THE WHITE HOUSE!
what weak a** man obama is....he has the audactiy to say "lay on my wife" when he can say whatever he wants about bill clinton and its ok...even michelle obama said she hates hillary!!

michelle obama is nothing but a bad mouth, low class hood rat and the thought of her even stepping into the white house has most people cringing to think she somehow would be able to represent what a FIRST LADY is....

obama recently told the media he has lost weight...i found that interesting because why would obama say that? i mean unless he's aware of what the drugs he's taking are doing to his weight....

yes i said drugs...i'm a trained professional in drug users and there is no doubt in my mind he's been abusing drugs lately...not sure but i would assume meth to stay up from the exhaustion during this period...i mean he doesnt owe anybody an explanation on his weight but felt it was necessary to express that to the media probably to mask his abuse....

NOBODY WANTS OBAMA ANYMORE! HE IS DAMAGED GOODS AND EVEN ROVE AND OTHERS NOW ARE SAYING THAT THE DEMOCRATS ARE PICKING THE WRONG CANDADATE....

HILLARY WILL NOW GO ALL THE WAY TO THE CONVENTION TO FIGHT THIS ALONG WITH FILING LAW SUITS JUST WATCH...SHE AINT GETTING OUT...SHE JUST WANTS YOU ALL TO THINK SHE IS SOON....

SHES NOT DUMB NOW...SHE KNOWS AND SOON THE ENTIRE WORLD WILL KNOW THEY CHOSE THE WRONG CANDATE IN OBAMA AS THE NOMINEE..

OH DONT LET ME FORGET HIS SLEEZE BAG HOOD RAT WIFE! SHES A DISGRACE AND WOULD DOWN GRADE THE ENTIRE "FIRST LADY" IMAGE! BAD ATTITUDE AND A WHITE HATING WOMEN!

Chillers
When a man shows "Fear",we call him a "Sissy".I will not insult, that moniker,by using it in reference to you.Your wife, mother and daughter should be ashame to call you a man. This is an election, and your level of "Hate" only reflects the low level, at which some in America live.It is hard for me to imagine, how it feels to be a "Loser",but you have my sympathy and so does your family.May God bless you!

Empires come and soon self-destruct
More and more, each time a so called conservative writes and speaks, condemning the liberals for most if not all of America's ills and the world, these so called conservatives only prove how so weak that kind of Conservatism has been and they wish to continue to be so. It they knew what true conservatism is they would be out of business.

I am speaking as a legal immigrant of 52 years and a staunch conservatives Republican, period, and the only one that heretofore, that has spoken as a true Conservative is, none other than Ron Paul. Yet despised by the Republican's darling that of McCain, the one that in my book, is really nothing but a refried Mr. Hitler. He knows absolutely nothing about running this nation within a true Democracy!

Yes, the Founding Fathers are weeping in their graves the more these conservatives speak and write, and if they were to rise and find that America has now made itself into the most abusive and far-reaching Empire ever, they would beg to return to their graves immediately.

Yes these words in advise to the future generation of Americans: "Overgrown military establishments are under any form of government inauspicious to liberty, and are to be regarded as particularly hostile to Republican Liberty". George Washington. Anybody tell me that he would not weep were he to rise and find that America's inhumane and horrendous war machinery is now circling the globe, with its guns roaring while America has been invaded all along by another nation?

Some accounts list illegals up to 40 millions and really ushered in by Conservatives and no differenct than by liberals, while breaking the existing laws of immigration by aidding and abetting illegals, to make a few extra bucks while using nothing but slave labor, and really to hell with America, the one created by the Founding Fathers. Patriotism is dead in America!

Sadly, most born Americans are so ignorant about their own nation; is is pitty to say the least.

Barack Obama Rock Star Status ...
Rock stars are fun and exciting ... but, when it comes to solving the energy crisis, the economy, Iraq, Iran, Afganistan, the falling dollar, immigration, health care, Russia, China, jobs leaving the country, education, terrorism, etc., etc., etc. ... I'm not going to call a Rock Star ... no natter how well they sing, no matter how popular they are ... no matter how much money they can attract ... no matter how big of a venue they can fill ...
