Al Gore: Leading Us to Peace? Really?

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Thank God somebody was willing to ask.

“Ask what?” you might be wondering. I’m getting to the question of what it is, exactly, that Al Gore did to enhance “peace” such that he has now won a Nobel Peace Prize.

While the White House officially expressed “happiness” last week over Gore’s award, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi used the occasion to reassure us that Mr. Gore has sounded a “clarion call” that has “awakened the world” to the “very real threat” of global warming, the question of what has Gore done for “peace” remains.

Of course, we should acknowledge that Gore served the United States as its Vice President during “peace-time.” So did Dan Quayle, and George H. W. Bush, and Walter Mondale, and the service of each of these former V.P.’s no doubt contributed to the overall objective of “peace” throughout the world.

But Quayle, Bush and Mondale never got a Nobel Peace Prize. And Gore’s prize has now been bestowed six years after leaving his position as Vice President. So what exactly has Gore done to warrant this otherwise high honor?

There doesn’t seem to be any easy, substantive answer to this question. And while many of us in the media have been overindulging in speculation for the past few days about “the prize” being enough to instigate that long-awaited Gore For President 2008 campaign, there is at least one politician who has dared to question Gore’s selection for the Nobel Peace Prize in the first place.

He is a “President” himself, the President of a new and growing democracy in Eastern Europe - - but you’ve probably never heard of him.

Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, dared to release a statement last week claiming that he was "somewhat surprised" that former US vice president Al Gore received the Nobel Peace Prize. In this written statement he claimed that "the relationship between his activities and world peace is unclear and indistinct," and that "it rather seems that Gore's doubting of basic cornerstones of the current civilization does not contribute to peace."

Thank you, Mr. President!

While U.S. Mayors, Governors, Congressional members and foreign heads of state continue fawning over Gore as he narrates a motion picture, produces rock concerts, preaches his eco-centric gospel of green, and insists that “the scientific community” agrees with everything he says, there is at least one head of state who has the audacity to suggest that Gore might be misunderstanding some things.

And what might be the misunderstandings? What are those “basic cornerstones of the current civilization” that Gore seems to be doubting?

President Klaus made this very clear earlier this Summer, while writing in the Financial Times Journal. In his June essay, Mr. Klaus called into question the hysteria that is the “global warming movement,“ by making the outrageous observation that weather patterns change over time. He also mentioned that during the past century the average global temperature increased only .6 percent. In an additional shocking claim, Klaus stated that, among adults living on planet earth today, “all of us have noticed that even during our life times temperature changes occur (in both directions).”

So German Chancellor Angela Merkel and (former) British Prime Minister Tony Blair and “authorities” at the United Nations and other big and important people around the world obsess about so-called “global warming” and seek to, quite literally, “change the weather.“ All the while, President Klaus has repeatedly been so bold and brash as to remind us that “change” is a natural facet of the weather, and that the global temperature hasn’t increased very much in the past one hundred years.

Most important about President Klaus‘ comments is the fact that he identifies the global warming hysteria for what it truly is: yet another attempt to control human behavior and constrain human liberty. These are threats to civilization with which Mr. Klaus is well acquainted, given that he has lived most of his life under communist dictatorships.

In his Financial Times Journal editorial, President Klaus concluded by saying “I feel obliged to say that I see the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity now in ambitious environmentalism, not in communism. This ideology wants to replace the free and spontaneous evolution of mankind by a sort of central (now global) planning.”

By every indication it would seem that Al Gore, officials at the United Nations, and the decision markers with the Nobel Prize believe that a “central, global” economic planning is the very force that can lead humankind closer to prosperity, and peace.

Unfortunately, none of these people would seem to have learned the lessons of history, as President Klaus apparently has.

chicaree I'm not disputing what
you say your scientist friends are saying I am pointing out that even Gore himself has acknowledged exagerating situations in his film to move people toward certain actions. Also some of those in the movie have said they were taken out of context. I also pointed to Algores assertion that 1992 was the worst economy in 50 years. The falsehoods in the movie are admitted by Gore not some group out to discredit him. Second instance of exageration is the economy I didnt need any think tank to know that one was false. Gore dosent need any conspiracy to discredit him, he does that all on his own, and by his own admission.

Gore
Sorry I hang out with the scientists not Gore and listen to them more than him. a lot of the stuff they are saying is worse than what Gore put in the film. Another thing to think about is what group of people stand to loose from the Gore message. Big Oil. Don't you think they will pour lots of money into discrediting his message. There is a group that has a lot of money to spend. Instead of jumping in a looking at how to make profits from renewables they are blasting away at him and all climate scientists through a variety of avenues. Conservative think tanks to produce documents siting any scientists peer reviewed or not that will question climate change, and they are not above pouring money into politicians pockets. I'm afriad our country is run by special interest more than by the vote of the people.

chicaree
"WHAT if the Gore half is right. It is going to be tough going no matter what and a lot of people are going to suffer."

I guess one would have to ask wether Al Gore has been known to exagerate the benefits or risk. He himself has acknowledged exagerations in his inconvienant truth movie. And so have some of the people he used in that movie. Do you recall when he repeatedly cited the worst economy in the last 50 years referring to 1992. I hope you didnt believe that one.

Al Gore has had made a career out of over exagerating the truth. Why should we do anything he suggest especially when he does not follow his own advice?

skip
OK Skip .... there is a lot of scientists who do say it is human caused. and a lot of convincing data to back up their claims. I work at a university with a number of them. Every one of them with the exception of one and he is not a researcher, point to C02 as the cause. Even if you think it is half and half, half for... half against C02 is the cause. WHAT if the Gore half is right. It is going to be tough going no matter what and a lot of people are going to suffer. It might be wise to cut back on the C02, plus oil and coal is FOSSIL fuel. It will run out no matter what. And I'm not all that wild about sending my money to rich Saudi oil shieks. I'd rather develop our own companies to use wind, solar and use the new batteries that are being developed that are much more powerful and efficient than the current ones we have. They are more efficient at producing the power that we need to run our cars. Other promising things are in the works such as using lenses to focus the suns heat on tanks of oil that can be used to produce electricity after the sun goes down. and the wind power can be used to pump and trap air in underground tanks that then release it to turn turbines to generate electricity. Those sound like much better options to me than middle east oil! But it takes committement and people supporting those kinds of options to ever bring them on line.

The issue
is not whether there is climate change. The issue is the arrogant idiots who claim that global warming is man made, and that people should follow instructions about altering their lives to correct the climate change.

Ignorant dupes will continue to sweat out the intracability of people who do not buy the political, controlling B.S. of the sky is falling crowd. I say they are free to believe whatever they please. I am free to do the same, and creeps like Al Gore will not change my mind.

Al Gore and peace
Al Gore brought climate change to the forefront of public interest and as such did the world a service. If this problem is not addressed there will indeed be no peace in the world. Already people are being displaced by climate change. Low elevation island populations must face the fact of rising sea level and Greenland has just begun to melt. The people of the Island nation of Tuvalu has left their home as salt water now fouls their fresh water supplies and ruins their farm lands. Thousands of other islanders are also facing the fact that they too will have to leave their islands that has been home to their people for thosands of years. Lake Chad has dried up and conflic, starvation, and genocide has followed as there is not enough resources to support the population in that region.

A recent category 5 typhoon (hurricane) has hit India, flooded farmlands, ruined crops and destroyed homes of thousands of people. Winter is arriving and without their harvest they have no food. conflict will most likely occur.

Just because here in the US you can look out the window and see weather patterns that are still near normal, it is difficult to imagine that there really is a problem. But this is a PLANET crisis and we have a news media that thinks world news is Iraq, Paris Hilton and car chases. Without more information we will continue to have ignorant responses to climate change articles.

but Al just wants
what all liberals really want - to be loved by the world!

. writes Cont.

You seem confused. Go back and read what I said. Not once did I claim the right to decide which species continues to exist and which ones should cease to exist. I suspect that the tone of my remarks caused your concern.

Understand this. Your concern, or my remarks, have nothing to do with what is going to happen to God's creations. You sound like a nice caring person. Perhaps I am no longer as "nice" in my perspectives as you. I think that Al Gore is scum. In my view he is driven by his political ideology, his need for power, and his leftist need to control other people. I don't see anything Godly about him or his agenda.

In the end you, me and Gore will answer for who we have been. We will face God's judgement. Perhaps you would be better off if you understood that what any of us can do is limited. I do ask you not to twist my words.

. writes
if I understand the poster who mentioned the 100 species, of course he/she cares. I don't understand what caring has to do with walking and being outside. Can you tell me how those extinct, anonymous species affected your walks or your enjoyment of the outdoors? I don't think that you can.

You say "Secondly species are not yours or anyones are they? They are not anyones to change.? (From a Christian perspective they are the handiwork of God). Certainly not yours."

I never claimed that they were mine, and I certainly never decided that they should become extinct. I never knew that they existed. From a Christian perspective I ask you to consider this. They were God's creations, just as all things are, including human beings. God notes the sparrows fall. I don't, and neither do you.

What makes you think that it is not God's plan for them to disappear from existence? The thing that infuriates me about Al Gore and people like him is that they are arrogant enough to believe that they have the answers to climate change. Not only that, but they want to tell everyone else how to live in order to correct the crisis that they claim exists.

If you want to talk about God's creation of species never forget that God created human beings. When God decides that it is time for our extinction he will eliminate us. God decided the fate of those species, whatever they were.

Second hand smoke is not harmful at all.
Ask any honest Doctor.
The Doctor will also tell you, there is no proof that smoking causes cancer or heart trouble.
In fact, he will tell you those illnesses will be around if there was no smoking at all.

Gore's "peace prize" is a mockery.
If people remember, Al Gore worked for Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton was the president who:

1. Bombed an aspirin factory in the Sudan.
2. Committed troops to Bosnia, repeatedly promised to get them home, and never did.
3. Bombed Iraq to draw public attention away from his various scandals.

Let us also remember that, after all this, Al Gore said Clinton was one of the greatest presidents in history.

Al Gore cares about world peace? I say he cares about nothing but Al Gore.

Skip
Has it occurred to you that others do care. Those who enjoy walks or being outside. Secondly species are not yours or anyones are they? They are not anyones to change. (from a Christian perspective they are the handiwork of God). Certainly not yours!

GunnyG
1) Well tim ball retired 10 YEARS ago. He now heads the "Friends of science" (look them up, are you serious)
2) He said it was "Broadly accurate". He put errors in quotation marks as they were claimed. You
"forgot" to do that didn't you?
3)Millroy also says that secondhand smoke doesn't cause cancer. He has received moneys from the tobacco industry!
>
also "In 2005, it was reported that non-profit organizations operating out of Milloy's home, and in some cases employing no staff, have received large payments from ExxonMobil "!!!!!!!
4)No relevance to actual warming.
5) A THINK TANK. Wow. Proves it?

I find it
incredible that a poster on this thread bemoans the demise of 100 species from the planet. WHOOOW! One-hundred? That is terrible. I read that and became depressed. I felt really guilty about those poor critters that have gone belly up.

Obviously people are the problem. I remembered reading about something called over population. That means too many people. We had better do something about that immediately. Just think about this. One hundred species gone, and I never knew they were here. Being a responsible person, I immediately began to consider what I can do to save some critters.

Then it occured to me that I lack some critical information. How can I help save unknown species if I don't know what they are. It is too late to save the 100, but if there were 100 species that became extinct, who can say how many are on the threshhold of extinction now?

Then I realized that I lacked information on this problem. I never knew anything about the 100 extinct species who have left us, so I asked myself a question. Who cares? Since I never knew anything about them I won't miss them.

If it really is a case of too many people on the planet, I have lists of folks I think could become extinct and benefit the rest of us. Start with the twenty million or so Muslim jihadists who want to kill me because I don't view Mohhammed as God.

Then there are the nut cases who want us all to die so that unknown critters can live. Come to think of it, that covers nut jobs like Al Gore and the rest of his co-religionists. The bottom line is that I couldn't give a d*^n less how many species become extinct. We had better try to make sure that we don't join them.

I think you will find germany has the most wind production in the world. It produces nearly 12% of its power from renewables. Its increasing at about 2-3% a year(of its power needs). At that rate in 20 years a it will be well over half. The german Gov want to cut usage by 30%. Theres a gap of LESS than existing nuclear power plants. (not that the growth in renewables will be linear necessarily)

The Sky Is Falling ...
"...and that 300 years of poullution have contributed a great deal to that. Does that make me a lunatic worth nothing but derision? The earth's resources are finite, it is very hard to argue against that. And the earth's finite resources are already causing wars - so in that respect Gore's award is justifiable. I just don't get the anti-environment crowd..."

**** 300 years of pollution? Gosh, that must mean that the Indians were drag-racing in their moccasins and raising all sorts of burnt-hide smoke into the atmosphere!

Rubbish! How about we start worrying about what is causing all the sinkholes in Florida and other places? Hey, maybe it's because we are sucking all of the mineral deposits out of the earth and it's collapse into the voids is imminent!

Now there's a thought!

WHERE'S ALBORE WHEN YOU NEED HIM?

Renny
Actually, Germany has extensive coal in the west, but otherwise no objections to what you. Say just needed to correct that. (Don't worry, they may have coal, but the greens will still prevent them from mining it.)

Yes Al
Yes Al, we are all very impressed by your little award.. now run outside and play the grown-ups have lots of work to do.

The Goreacle
1. Retired climatologist Timothy Ball tells Cybercast News Service that Gore's movie — "An Inconvenient Truth" — is a "wonderful piece of propaganda" that relies on "visual imagery and gimmickry."

2. A British judge ruled that the movie had at least nine major errors and could not be shown to students without balancing information. Thursday, the BBC alleged that Gore knew his movie presented false facts, but was afraid any uncertainty would fuel global warming skeptics.

3. JunkScience.com publisher Steve Milloy says if that is true, "Gore should win the Nobel Prize for propaganda."

4. And Czech President Vaclav Klaus says he is surprised Gore would get a peace prize, noting "The relationship between his activities and world peace is unclear and indistinct."

5. A conservative think tank in New Zealand wants Hollywood to strip Gore's movie of its Oscar. The West Australian newspaper reports the New Zealand Center for Political Research has written to the president of the group that produces the Academy Awards, contending that the alleged scientific errors in the movie disqualify it for the Best Documentary award.

But hey, liberals don't care about facts anyway. It's all, feelings, nothing more than feelings....

are you telling me that if pres. bush won the nobel peace prize you would react the same.
to get so angry about an american winning shows you really do hate your fellow americans especially if they disagree with your political point of view.

how sad

Conservatives do not hate America
They don't like Al Gore and think the Nobel is worthless since it was given to a life-long terroist like Yassir Arafat.

The Greens in Germany have banned any more nuclear power plants. Germany gets 1/3 of its energy from nuclear.

Ger. has no coal and no oil. Where is it going to get energy?

One of my cousins sold out and retired from both of his businesses because he says Ger. in 10 years will not have enough electricity to provide heat for resiential housing, let along energy for businesses.

Greens drive Porsches and fly private jets but want to deprive the average citizen of the high standard of living the post-WW II era has established.

Gore is one of them. His TN house (and he has 4) uses more energy in a month than I have in my house in 15 years.

His argument is a lie. The sun is heating the entire solar system. The earth is just part of that trend. He lives like a hypocrite, and cons. are haters?

so evangelicals
who are calling for christians to be better stewards of the earth are akin to communists.

Which has relevence to what exactly in this thread? Desperate and pathetic attempts to avoid answering questions you have no answer to.

If you had bothered to read my first post, I made a point about the whole environmental debate rather than necessarily this award itself. Are they really red herrings? The environmental debate is not just about global warming. It is also about pollution and the destruction of vast swathes of the planet's ecology. how can that not be relevant? Eleven new species in Vietnam? Woopee do. How many species have become extinct in the last 100 years?
I did point out that we are in the middle of what is a war for finite resources and the likiehood is that there will be many more. So in theat respect it is a deserved award.
As far as asking if you have aPhd, well, you're berating Gore for not having one and then asking people to take your own articles seriously - well, which is it? Gore can't be taken seriously but you, an anonymous blogger on Townhall, should be? Come off it. As the award of a Nobel prize to Gore made clear, he is the public face of the work of more than 2,500 scientists, hence the sharing of the prize.

Critical Bill
I don't NEED a PhD to read and understand scientific studies that debunk The Goreacle and his crowd. And that is what this article is about, not your red herrings of dying rainforests and extinct animals.

But in regards to your red herrings,

As I wrote in my first post, I do believe that the earth's temperature fluctuates by its own accord over time. As I also said, it's kinda hard to believe in wooly mammoths and the like if you don't think it does. But you can't really answer any of the questions I have posted, can you? You keep hammering away with your debunking theories without actually addressing any of the points I raised. So am I to understand that you actually think the destruction of rainforests and the extinction of plants and animals is a good thing? Bit hard to blame those things on the sun isn't it? I would read your articles gunny, but before I do please can you prove that you have at least got a Phd in some related sciencific discipline?

Just a thought but don't you find it just a bit odd that The Goreacle REFUSES to debate anyone on the issue of global warming? It's already settled he bleats.

You mention Dr William Gray (he of the very popular among conservaitves Colorado State university), as if his voice is taken as gospel among the scientific community. In fact he has many, many critics, most of whom are educated to a similar if not superior level. As for Gore's qualifications - well, lots of people failed exams early in their lives - Albert Einstein failed to get into the Swiss institute of Technology first time around. So what, that makes him a mathematics loser does it? I'll repeat the question I put in my previous post - do you seriously believe that the actions of man has had zero impact on the ecology of the planet? And do you really think the state of the planet is nothing to be concerned about?

Al has ordered some!!!!!!!!!

This whole debate is totally screwed up
It's often quite a weird experience reading the posts on Townhall, but the weirdest threads have to be the ones attached to any article on the environment. This whole thing has become so politicised that there isn't any real debate any more. If you're in favour of doing more for our environment you're labelled a liberal whacko without two brain cells to rub together intent on nothing more than the destruction of America. Where does that come from? It's just lunacy. Does anyone here really, genuinely, honestly believe that doing nothing is the best way forward? That, to paraphrase Coulter, the earth is ours so go ahead and rape it? That the destruction of rainforests, the extinction of unique plant and animal life is a good thing? I can't believe anyone here does think that. And that by attempting to tackle problems now won't have long term benefits? I happen to believe that the temperature of the earth does fluctuate of its own accord - anyone who believes in evolution must agree with that. But I also believe that man has done irrperable harm as well and continues to do so, and that 300 years of poullution have contributed a great deal to that. Does that make me a lunatic worth nothing but derision? The earth's resources are finite, it is very hard to argue against that. And the earth's finite resources are already causing wars - so in that respect Gore's award is justifiable. I just don't get the anti-environment crowd...

Good points. Far too sensible for the ideologically blinded and so disconnected from reality Nobel Prize committee.

medieval warming effects
As noted by hwm982xx at 9:18PM there is usually a lag-time between warming intervals and the increase in CO2. Do any of our resident AGW-will-kill-us-all fanatics happen to know how much of the current increase in atmospheric CO2 is this scientifically proven delayed effect of the medieval warming?

Or is it enough to say "it's all man's fault!" in an indignant tone and declare the discussion over?

Oh, and regarding the great wall of China... it's as thick on top as a 2 lane highway. Do you really think it would be visible from space and 4-lane freeways (often paired with 4 in each direction) aren't? It should be easier to see a major port at daytime than the great wall from space with the naked eye.

sorry, glasser, you missed something
The cutting of timber and converting it into houses is a way of removing carbon from the atmosphere.

Those who are really concerned about global warming should be stealing recycled paper from its bins and putting it into landfills (or casing it in metal and sinking it into the seas) to keep not only keep more carbon in solid forms (i.e. cellulose) but also to keep from wasting liquid carbon chains (i.e. diesel) while they're at it.

Pray AlGore does not get nominated!
That sissyfied pretender hasn't got a chance and we would be recounting ballots for that crybaby for the next 10 years!

funny old republican you would
allow Algore to teach your children does the phrase "worst economy in 50 years" ring a bell. You know the thing Algore and bill said in their first campaign when refering to the economy of 1992. The only ones that should have fallen for that were children under 10 that couldn't read. I seem to recall there being double digit iterest rates on home loans in the late 70's. Dont forget the billboard in the late 60's saying the last one out of Seattle please turn out the lights.

The Final Hypocrisy
So, Al Bore wins the Dumbell Award ... which makes him as big a terrorist as Arafat! Only difference is Al Bore uses his inane and insane rhetoric to bore everybody to death. But, he purchases "carbon credits" so he can continue with his hedonistic lifestyle unaffected. I guess that qualifies him for "hero" status. Ick!

I'm so sick of hypocrit political pimps and preening lying celebrities and idiot Americans who idolize them and put them on pedestals.

Since you failed to try for that $125,000 reward you admit you KNOW AGW is simply a confidence scam.
That proves you are a lying scam artist!

You have nothing left but name calling?
I expect that from an arrogant buffoon like you.

Take your crap back to the Algore Campaign and tell them you have no credibility here.

myopine
Hollywood, the universities, international awards committees and liberals. Biggest circle jerk in the world.

funnyOLDrepublicans
Gee Whiz!
You mean you have discovered Algore is a fake and he really did not invent the internet?

Since you know all this insider stuff about Algore, why don't you rush over to http://www.junkscience.com and claim the big reward for proving AGW?

You are missing a great chance to be rich & famous!
When you have all that money and fame, don't forget us here at TH.
We made it all possible for you.

I am really disappointed to learn Algore lied about inventing the internet!

FOL
No. I just know what is important in life and what is nonsense. Go ahead and keep supporting a Divinity School Dropout, DC lifer.

Hollywood loves giving awards for movies with multitudes of proven inaccuracies, like Gore and Michael Moore movies. Come on FOL, you know Hollywood loves kissing up to liberal politicians. Heck, Hillary got an award for reading her book of fiction. Even the liberals I'm friends with agree that her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

What Runs Rampant
on this site is our bewilderment on how liberals can ignore facts and the history of those they support. Al Gore has so many blemishes that we just laugh hysterically that liberals actually take such a flawed man seriously. With Hillary, not only is there the elephant in the room no one will discuss, there are about 500 elephants in the room. We are bemused that such an obviously evil, duplicitous woman gets any serious consideration, let alone be your front-runner.

NOW ignores all the rules they have set-up for executives in order to give BJ Clinton a pass. Hitting on the help. A very probable rapist. Oh yeah, you liberals sure are for women's rights. Tell you what. If I agree that it is OK for you to keep killing babies in the womb, can I go rape any woman I want?

Gore-The Divinity School Drop-Out
We are going to take our lead on scientific matters from a guy who flunked out of Divinity School? Of course, that was probably a plus with the Nobel committee.

FOL
Yeah, you guys just go ahead and keep giving self-congratulatory awards to each other. Keep patting yourselves on the back for caring-yet doing nothing. Conservatives will keep doing the heavy lifting so you can continue on with your frivolous lives.

Heck, I cherish my sports trophies from when I was 10 years old more than I would a Nobel Prize. At least with my sports trophies, I didn't share that honor with the likes of morons like Jimmy Carter, or terrorists like Yassar Arafat-what a guy!

Al Gore Cont.
It has long been recognized that this nation must be destroyed before a world government can become a reality. It shouldn't surprise anyone that Gore was given the Nobel Peace Prize. After all, Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter received it. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Amadenejad got it next year.

Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and unfortunately both George Bushes are all on the same page. They are globalists and traitors. The United Nations is taking pieces of America. It is doing this without the knowledge of the American people. Gobal warming is simply a tool to accomplish that end.

Al Gore
is leading the charge to destroy America economically. The Kyoto Treaty was specifically directed toward burdening the United States with correcting a non-existent problem. China and India are two of the greatest polluters on the planet, but they were exempted form that bogus treaty.

The earth may very well be warming. Man made emissions are not the cause, and any suggestion that there are cycles of warming and cooling are attacked by creeps like Al Gore. One radical environmentalist said the there should be Nurenburg type trials for anyone who questioned whether global warming was caused by man.

This whole thing has emanated from the U.N. That corrupt, anti-American organization is working in harmony with traitors on the left in America to destroy the supremacy of this nation.

Most people do not know that Bill Clinton slipped through an Executive Order placing many thousands of acres in America under U.N. control. UNESCO owns land along water ways all over the Rocky Mountain West. Private property rights are being eroded quietly all over the country.

Cont.

LOL, Cookie!
Gore must have forgotten about that when he invented the internet, making it easier for all of us to check on all his lies and bullshiiit.

gretske
Maybe he won the Nobel Prize for laundering money through a Buddhist Temple and its members who had taken a vow of poverty-with his signature approving this event.

I know this makes no sense which is equal to the justification for Gore winning the prize in the first place.

Dolly Llama
OK. Enough of this myth you as*hole. Every study of Florida, mostly by left wing media sources, show that Gore would have lost Florida, even using the ridiculous way Florida officials wanted to count votes and the limited, democrat counties they wanted to do it in. So shut the f*ck up and go away.

wiseone
Don't forget that Gore then denied he was anti abortion or pro Second Ammendment. I think this is what frightened me most about him. He would lie about facts easily verified by the record. He acted like we don't have records, tapes, or archives. Of course, the MSM refused to call him on these lies, just like all his "mistakes" in his movie. But the MSM would have to remove their collective noses from his as* in order to do that.

kkkkkkkkkkkkk
nnnnnnnnnnnnn

Clumsy thinking?
So how did it get this far, that Gore has gotten the momentum to get this high on the mountain; convincing a sizable amount of people to actually believe that we wee ones are capable of mucking around on this enormous spinning orb as it traverses its seasonal orbital paths in our galaxy and affect its heating and cooling?

Thinking Power
More than forty-five years ago, one of my graduate school professors would comment on a person or a group of persons, "He needs a brain laxative." Were he alive today, I am confident that he would say the same about the latest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and all others who, like him, refuse to look at the scientific evidence that the cause of global warming is solar, not human, activity--and he would also say the same about anyone who believes that a proponent of the non-scientific hypothesis that human activity is the main cause of global warming should be awarded a "peace prize."

Why do people listen to such

Follow the Money
Is anyone who does not stand to gain financially pushing global warming? Too, it seems one of the easiest ways to reduce co2 would be to stop burning down the rain forests in South America, and cutting down so many trees in the Northwest US and Southwest Canada. I could be wrong.

The Poor, Neglected Ignorant of the 70s
Foul, foul, foul. The ignorant of the 1970s who warned us of the approaching ice age never got a Nobel Peace Prize. As I recall they were at least as ignorant as the current global warming gagle. What's the deal here?

Al Gore Commisar of Combustion and Carbo
In James Michener’s novel, Poland, there is a story of how the feudal lords made it a capital offense for a peasant to grind their own grain with a private millstone to make bread to feed their families. Today’s would be aristocrats are trying to institute a new lucrative measure of control and rationing; carbon credits. In this new scheme, certain well-connected bureaucrats and politicians will determine and ration how much coal, wood or petroleum products they will allow a person, business and even country to use. Under the ruse and guise of “protecting the planet” they will be the sole, non-elected arbiters on how much carbon one can use for travel, heating and industry. In short, they will control all industrial processes along with modes and amount of travel. First, they will paraphrase Henny Penny’s portentous, despairing cry of imminent doom, “The sky is heating!” Then, the only solution proffered will be absolute control of all combustion. Finally, only friends, contributors and companies in which they or their collaborators own stock will be allowed access to resources needed for industry and the economy. This resembles the government-chartered monopolies in the age of Mercantilism. In fact, it will be a type of Marxist monopoly envisioned in Ayn Rand’s novel, Atlas Shrugged. And who stands to benefit for this feudal right to allocate resources and sell the permission to use carbon? It will be their new majesties, Al Gore, Robert Kennedy, Joh Edwards and the rest of the Democratic progressive elite. Mike Guy

Please feel free to copy my post. I am a denier/skeptic and appreciate any company! We will be vindicated during the next climate cooling period!

Hey, where are all those hurricanes the Algore fanclub predicted would happen by now? Could it be they don't have a clue?

hwm982xx: Excellent! Well written!!

I've been asking and asking (obviously to no avail) exactly HOW CO2 could possibly be a pollutant.

What IS amazing, however, is that when I push that question, they leave! Strange?

Now, IF they were talking about carbon MONoxide, I "might" understand. But, that's not the case.

Thanks again. May I copy your post?

Pollution vs Climate
It appears that air "pollution" is being confused/associated with global warming. The current political battle over global warming/climate change is a totally different subject and boils down to the fundamental issue of: "Does CO2 cause global warming?" Regardless, carbon dioxide (CO2) is not a pollutant. There would be no life on Earth, as we know it, without CO2.
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) does not cause Global Warming because there is no past historical scientific factual evidence and/or records that link CO2 as a forcing factor or a cause of an increasing temperature rise climate warming period. Any current rising temperatures is not causation. ALL other global warming arguments are irrelevant, since humans are incapable of controlling any natural occurring climate change. Climate has and will forever change; since there is no normal Climate.
There is scientific proxy evidence/data from past climate periods that reveal CO2 levels about 18 times greater than the CO2 levels present today; which were concurrent with non-rising temperatures equivalent of those present today.
Proxy scientific data from the past few 100,000 year 'Ice Age' terminations, reveal that the rise of CO2 levels trail the relatively abrupt temperature rise by 800-2000 years. This is the equivalent of 11-76 human generations. How many grandparents do you know of?
The best that could happen now is for an abrupt short period (30 year) climate shift to cooling. That certainly would put an end to the current global warming Goracle hysteria.
{Goracle = The expected deliverer, authoritative person who divines the future (Global Warming).}

Ever seen a salt water piranha?
They are about the size & shape of a silver dollar.
We found ourselves swimming in a school of them off a beach on Mindanao.
They have very short teeth but they manage to take a patch of skin off about the size of your little fingernail.
That does not feel good in salt water.
One of the guys managed to get one in the crotch if his trunks.
You should have seen the dance he did on the beach to get that thing out of his trunks!

The market is geared toward conservation of resources. Natural resources that are in abundance are cheap. Those that are not abundant are expensive. As long as the market is allowed to function we will never run out of anything. If the market demands alternatives to fossil fuels because of scarcity then alternatives will make sense. Using carbon taxes to realign our energy usage in the pursuit of a solution to a problem that may or may not exist is foolish.

Scooter NYC andLilly - your post of 2:46
You said "And if you don't and yet have strong belief for or against global warming, ask youself where, and how, you got your information: how did your opinion come to be? "

This is so on point: in a previous post, where I described finding ten different anti-GW posts only to find they were all from the same source and advertised "foundations" that didn't exist, what I also found out is that they were part of the campaign put together by people against any kind of talk on GW to create dust, as it were, and confuse the facts as much as possible. That this is policy is not arguable.

The information I trust most at this point is coming from NSA and other international organizations of scientists who have nothing to gain or lose by publishing their findings (except for NSA, who have all their work changed by the administration).

So, I think another useful question to ask is,

What do the sources of your information have to gain or lose by what you end up believing?

BrianR

My point was that anything we do, the earth will recycle. Towns, cities, the great wall scars the earth, only temporarily. It all falls to ruins and the earth goes on. Now smog may be visible from space, I don’t know because I have never been to see it, but the fact still remains the earth does more in one eruption of a volcano than we have done in 10K or how many ever years we have been around. So I think we are just not that much to earth. The band Kansas put it best; all we are is dust in the wind!

That's pretty much SOP for that kind of gas-bag.

If Gore and de Caprio and the
rest cared about global anything, they'd have only 1 house,

no private airplanes

never fly somewhere just for a party

make a minimal number of movies, as they are one of the most energy intensive vocations outside formula 1 racing

and keep car ownership within a countable range

Gore's house in TN (one of four?) uses more energy in a month than my house has used in the 15n years I've owned it. I am certainly not making sacrifices for him.

If there *is* climate change....
... why does it matter?

The unspoken assumption in Al Gore and the environmental movement's rhetoric is that global warming is necessarily a Bad Thing and therefore should be mitigated.

This is by no means clear. We will certainly have more refugees (virtually the entire population of Bangladesh for starters), and increased spread of previously ignored diseases from the tropics. But we will also have longer growing seasons, access to previously unused land (in Canadia, eg), and there will much less Florida. All to the good.

It seems to me the biggest issue is sustainability. Short term, only the market can address that question. We therefore have to increase prices on gas and energy, preferably by a carbon tax, while reducing or eliminating taxes on estates, companies, incomes, and payrolls.

Long term, we need alternative sources of energy. I filled my car in Brasil with ethanol grown from sugar cane, which is eight times more efficient than that from corn. Why not open the markets to Brasilian sugar? Why not use tidal energy in Alaska? Why not support the market in making these profitable?

In short, why not take sustainability seriously? It's a serious question, and the market is a serious answer.

So let's start by ignoring Al Gore, and put market-driven sustainability at the top of the agenda.

Crude oil leaks up from cracks in the ocean floor every time we have an earthquake.

Mercury from natural cinnabar deposits constantly leaches into our rivers and is carried out to sea.

IF mankind could do anything to affect the overall climate it would have happened during WW2 when both China and Russia were employing the "Scorched Earth Policy".

The wall of China does not pollute like the Pacific Rim does!

Okay! I stand corrected and I apologize! :-)

Excellent idea, and well said.

for Dolly Llama
Dolly Llama writes: "Just try launching our nuclear arsenal, and see what kind of an impact we have."

You don't even have to go that far.

Atmospheric samples taken from anywhere on earth--even Antarctica--will show traces of air pollution. And samples taken from the oceans will show water pollution. In fact, the Government has been forced to warn pregnant women not to eat predatory fish like swordfish and tuna because of the high concentration of methylmercury from factory air pollution falling into the seas and getting into the food chain.

When explorer Thor Heyerdahl sailed his experimental raft, the "Ra," across the ocean, he complained that all along his journey the sea water was full of floating lumps of crude oil from tankers.

Gore's Next Job
Perfect for him would be the position of Secretary General of the U.N. With almost 80 percent of the people in the U.S. considering the U.N. to be worthless it is the just the place for him. As head of an organization that has failed at almost everything it was created to do Gore will be able to continue doing what he does best.

for Doc
Doc writes: "It never ceases to amaze me that people with big heads and even bigger egos like bore think that humans have even been around long enough to make an impact on this planet."

You don't think we've had an impact on this planet???

I suggest you go to a museum and look at the woolly mammoth, the mastodon, the emu, etc. All extinct by human action.

Satellite photographs will show all the areas that humans have affected the appearance of the earth, from man-made lakes caused by dams to smog that is easily visible from space.

Heck, the Great Wall of China is easily visible by astronauts orbiting the earth.

for andrews
andrews writes: "3. You argue for a "sustainable" economy and seem to think that means some authoritarian green regime. In the past, any shortages were resolved by market forces, which I am certain will resolve new shortages as well. Eg. When whale oil became scarce we moved to petroleum, and when petroleum runs short, we will then find a replacement as well."

It's not a question of running out of oil here, but a question of externalities--side effects of its continued use.

In many cities, we had long since reached unhealthy levels of smog from external combustion engines, requiring Government action on anti-pollution regulations. It represented a market failure because no one ever had to pay for the use of the ATMOSPHERE--the free market didn't levy any cost on you polluting it.

Global warming, if it's as bad as the majority of scientists claim it is, is another such side effect that is currently not being cost accounted for. For example, if human-caused global warming raises the sea level to put Florida and Bangladesh under water, many of those people living there will have to be relocated. That cost hasn't been figured in to the cost of a gallon of gasoline you purchase today.

Another thought here ...
What is absolutely unforgivable is how Al Gore has preached this gospel to the children, who, thanks to TV, believe what they see. They do not have the ability to think critically yet, so they do feel that for them, there is no hope for their future. So many of our best and brightest are already beset with periods of depression that is a part of growing up, but in this instance, they reason there is nothing they can really do to change a thing.

I gave up on the Nobel Peace prize meaning anything when it was awarded to Yassar Arafat. Much the same as the Order of the Garter, awarded to people of consequence by Queen Elizabeth. Once it was given to Mick Jaggar, it ceased to have any meaning for me.

How arrogant of man to think that he can change the climate of the world. He didn't create the world so how in this world can he change anything other than to pick up the trash, recyle the glass and aluminum, install energy efficient products as much as is practicable and possible and affordable, turn the thermostat either up or down, according to the season, turn out unneccessary lights when you leave a room, cut down on the water usage, etc., etc. This is the domain in which man can change his own environment. Everybody just doing that could make the world a cleaner place. But, changing the climate, Oh, come on now ..

Hot air
First off, there would be a lot less "GLOBAL WARMING" if Al Bore shut his mouth.

Second. The Nobel committee just like the United Nations, is so anti-America, that giving Gore the prize is just another way to try to sway the U.S. elections to the party that will keep doing their work to weaken the U.S.
Gore is a whinning ninny, who fits in just o well the Demon-craps agenda of taking this country so far off to the left, that we'll pass their three hero's of the last century, Stalin, Hitler, and Mao.

Were Gore president, (And he was NOT the winner in 2000) on 9/11 he would have been found
under his desk in the oval office, wimpering and peeing in his panties.

Global warming is caused by the sun
The entire solar system is warming.

All the planets and moons are warming. Cosmologists, wbo are obviously not in bed with NASA climatologists, explain the phenomenon as periodic excessive radiation by the sun.

Mars' poles are melting. There are no SUVs on Mars.

Saturn's southern hemisphere and moons are warming. There are no coal-fired power plants on Saturn.

Jupiter has developed another red-spot storm, attributed to warming. Jupiter has no oil refineries. Jupiter has no land.

Even little Pluto is warming, even as its current orbit takes it away from the sun.

The earth has had at least three major ice ages. It has managed to warm up after each one without any help from any creatures.

Most of its life, the earth hasn't even had polar ice. So, technically, we are still in an ice age.

I'm glad Gore got the Nobel Prize. It just shows how worthless it is. Now, I hope he runs against Hillary and we can all sit back and laugh.

What did he do to qualify for a Nobel?
He was a leftist with rapidly dwindling credibility that needed it propped up by a group of self-congratulatory elitists.

Can you think of someone more qualified?

I sure can't.

Maybe
the gore will be the next vice ? Again ?

Hey Lilly
Thanks for your suggestion. But, I am confused, I use a Mac and it doesn't have a "google button." I assume that is on the LEFT side of the keyboard? The RIGHT side only has facts and truth.

So, since I can't see through your computer, what exactly did Al Gore do to earn a Peace prize? Did he negotiate a treaty, or maybe he was able to find common ground between the Muslims and the Israeli's? Please help me, I can't understand what his contribution to the Peace of mankind was? Couldn't be just a scientifically inaccurate movie, could it?

I DON'T BELIEVE THAT GLOBAL WARMING IS MAN MADE.

Does that help your hearing?

Did you read any of my posts that, do anything, BUT support the idea of global warming.

Truly you're too emotional to discuss this issue since you "feel" so offended about the religious issue most probably.

Both subjects are myths as they've been laid out by their respective leaders - gorebal warming and god.

You make stupid attacks on someone's religion and proclaim yourself ignorant of the fact that our Earth has gone through SEVERAL Ice Ages and has been much warmer that this in the past.

Are you aware the CO2 level in greenhouse gas has been proven to rise THOUSANDS OF YEARS AFTER the actual warming?

And since Algore is your Prophet you might like to know he based his calculations on measurements the were never taken but simply GUESSED AT!

Strike anyone as amusing how the solution to "Global Warming" is a new tax, exactly like Algore's original BTU Tax?

The AGW Scam is simply a Fantasy hard sell for a "Carbon Tax" that is nothing but Algore's BTU Tax in a different shade of lipstick.

touj
You're right, no one can know ALL sciences since the greatest boom was within the last century+ expanding those areas of exploration.

But we can easily look at patterns of weather. We can look at patterns of water levels rising/falling, et.al.

These "models" that are always bandied about are never revealed publicly, nor is the data that is input into these models. This should immediately be of suspect.

Then, as you look at other "claims", one has to then look at the data and ask, "can it be replicated?". Then, "does the data come to the same conclusions?".

Just given the one, of many, websites where scientists put the "hockey stick" to the test, it didn't come out as valid evidence. Again, this is suspect.

Then when people start attempting to induce fear, name call, demand consensus, and get irrational and emotional about the issue - now we should really be suspect.

Now we know why we are suspect, because the science isn't convincing. The data isn't overwhelming. Consensus is politics, not science.

Here's a great example: the gorebal film talks about polar bears, that if we engage in this treaty we could save x number of bears - if we stop shooting 1/2 of the average 1000 every year, imagine how many that'll save. You get the picture.

Check out "Cool It" - good book

"Unstoppable Global Warming" - Avery/Singer

"Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming" - Horner

All great options to start with and not "hysteria" minded, but concern for the environment - two very different issues.

boomer

Just how much effort do we need to expend to educate people to not crap in their water source?

We can give 3rd world countries all the resources in the world and they will figure out how to convert them to weapons and continue killing each other.

Even animals instinctively control their population growth consistent with their food supply and preventing pregnancy ain't rocket science.

We are mostly in agreement - and I have to admit that because I'm not educated in physics, geology, chemistry, etc., I have to struggle to hold on to and understand the science. But conservatives seem to be saying that the globe is not warming up, and even I can see that this flies in the face of facts. What is causing it or even contributing to it is certainly up for debate but if it continues I don't think it is hysterical to take a hard look at what it will mean for moving populations, shifting borders, and economies.

For the past 15 or 20 years I have lived in spots where a rising temperature and water levels would literally wash away my home - I'm right on the edge of puget sound, literally one block from the shore - and in the shadow of Mt. Rainier, which is mostly frozen ice (according to the Govt. engineering corps i cubic mile of it). This doesn't mean that I lie awake nights worrying about it, but it does mean that when I contemplate rising temperatures and melting ice I can think about it personally.

Actually, f NYC is for NY City, wouldn't it affect you also?

Hello Gretske
Do you know how to work the Google button on your computer? Try it, and see if you can figure out the difference between the Oscar (Academy Award), which is for a FILM, and the Nobel Peace Prize, which is for something else.

PS If you are 12 years old, you are forgiven for not knowing---but do try to find out quickly, so you won't be embarrassing yourself in public.

Are you on the religious right?

Then I'm talking to you.

If you're not, don't be a victim like BrianR and take it personally then.

Because that's whom I spoke of in my posts. Those on the religious right who claim themselves as "true conservatives".

This isn't anything new.

Apparently you are though given your websites and the inability to differentiate someone who is a pedophile from someone who is gay.

I won't embarrass you by pursuing that line of information since this thread is about gorebal warming.

of course, plate tectonics!
Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that?

Reminds me of the old National Lampoon Radio Hour bit about "Monolithic Oil", a company that was going to make America "more secure" by driving four giant screws into the corners of the continent.

Anyway, it's all been done before. It'll all be done again. Look back about 1200 years or so. What took down the Classical Mayans? What permitted the growing of grapes for wine in England? What improved the harvests and increased the population of Scandinavia (result: Vikings)? Global warming.

So, what do we do about it? Figure out what it's going to do and learn how to live with it. And I'll have another glass of the Leicestershire pinot noir, thank you very much.

Well, scooter, nice to
know I'm a victim, and you're looking out for me.

Man, do you have any idea how looney you sound in writing struff like that?

Anyway, Scoots, thanks to the global warming that pushed the last Ice Age north a few thousand years ago (oh, wait, I'm supposed to believe the Earth's only 6000 year old! Oh, well) we're having an absolutely lovely day here in SoCal, and I'm heading up to the range to get some target practice with my legally-owned "assault rifle".

However, I will be back in a few hours, so go ahead and post something to me and rest assured I'll answer upon my return.

If you want to continue this battle of wits, you might want to use the time to go from "half" to fully armed.

"Newsweek" August 13 devoted its cover article to the campaign successfully mounted and financed by BUSINESS to discredit global warming by creating an impression of scientific doubt. "Newsweek" names names and dollar amounts paid to scientists who agreed to write articles discrediting global warming. Whether you agree or not that global warming is a threat, you might be interested to see how public opinion is shaped in the United States of America.

Perhaps you, the person reading this post, have an earned doctorate in a field of study that has taught you all about the science of the earth and its atmosphere, and are competent to read and analyze hundreds of research studies and form your own conclusion. But probability says you don't, because most of us don't. And if you don't and yet have strong belief for or against global warming, ask youself where, and how, you got your information: how did your opinion come to be?

touj
I don't disagree that we have to pay attention to what we're doing.

I have posted in two other posts on this thread that we should be looking at it, but not with the hysteria and throwing billions of dollars at it, as some would have us believe. We have greater issues that need more attention.

And...the evidence isn't convincing at this point. There are too many "claims" that are not validated at this juncture, for which I posted one of 'em.

And then again the questions arise which no one answers:

Which data are we discrediting?

What's the criteria for discrediting such data?

Who are the scientists we're discrediting?

What is the criteria for discrediting them?

It's a problem, not a catastrophe.

In almost every instance in the past when "the market" came to understand that the people want cleaner products, less aerosols, etc. it responded and we've cut those things down. People wanted recycling - we have it.

Trying to induce fear in people with catastrophic screamings, won't get them to act.

It's why religion is so useless, no reasonable person believes the "end of the world" is coming by some chap with 666 on his backside. Although, the religious are rather bigoted about it since they claim it's going to be a Jew.

I agree with your most recent post..We absoloutely should recycle, cut down on water-gorging grass in our back yards, skip the air=conditioning when it's possible.

But to just deny that something is happening to our planet without even considering it outside of political ideology seems foolish and more like a default ideology that happens when the real thing is too complicated to be done in five seconds.

I had a long conversation with a geologist a while back who said, "The question is whether this is an extreme trend that will self-correct, as the more previous trends have, or, if we are contributing to it, whether it will override our effects on it and then self-correct, or, whether we are setting up a situation that can't be corrected without our intervention. And nobody knows exactly what that will be."

Conservatives always trash the bearer of messages they don't like - we're all used to that. But, usually, their refusal to think on more than one level only affects them (except in elections) - I don't care how many creationist museums they set up or urban myths they perpetuate - but if we begin to see even worse effects of this warming trend, they will still not face it; will tell us God is angry, we are imagining things, or it is a communist attempt
to take over the world. Go figure.

You're a victim because you took my comment "personally".

Don't think so?

Okay. If you say so.

Good luck with that!

Brian R
Yes, unfortunately you are a victim.

And even more pathetic, you have come to think that ONLY liberals are victims - which they are victims, much in the same way conservatives are, they just have a varied methodology of pathos.

Mac Moore
Careful, you're ignorance is showing.

LOL!
You don't even know you're own kind?

"No one believes that. Where on earth did you ever read this axiom?"

Your buddies on the religious right, who claim themselves as "true conservatives" believe that our world isn't more than 6,000 years old. Although since the Dover case they've amended that to about 10,000, they're still several billions away from the reality.

Yeah, you better brush up on your creationist background which the conservative right is all a ga-ga for.

One guy already posted about the creationist museum, if you really want some background on this forced denial of reality, check it out - it's the foundation of the right.

Sorry, scooter
I'm not a liberal, so though YOU may consider me a victim, I don't consider myself one, especially from any generalized and intellectually bereft drivel such as painting all conservatives as religious fanatics.

That wasn't even a good try. Actually, it was pretty pathetic.

Brian R
Having an emotional irrationality as you do, no one would expect you to see through your victimization as to why you are a victim.

I just find it humorous to point it out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fanatic about gorebal warming at all.

Should we be conservative with our resources?

Yes

Should we recycle when we can?

Yes

Should we find alternatives?

Yes

Has there been empirical evidence to show that there is something more at play here than the "care for the earth" movement?

Yes. It's in my first post on this article.

Gorebal Warming is a problem - not a catastrophe.

How about we spend money bringing clean drinking water to the entire world.

How about we give 3rd world countries the capabilities to create useful sources of energy so to grow their economies and come out of poverty.

Your comment is nothing more than emotional, hence - irrelevant.

If you had something of value to say it might have been worth listening to, but once you've hit the "I'm a victim" button, you no longer are able to have a rational discussion.

Not surprising though.

Scooternyc, what an irrelevant comment
I'm a conservative who thinks global warming exists, man has nothing to do with it, and believes in evolution.

So I guess your inane comment is pretty irrelevant to the discussion. Nothing more than ad hominem nonsense.

Oh. I guess I'm also a scientist, an engineer actually. So count me in that vast number of scientists who think man-made global warming is a bunch of looney-tunes crackpot idiocy.

Scooternyc
A good point. It's not as if conservatives are exactly credible when it comes to hard science.

I sw an ad for that new creationist museum in Ohio that features a large illustration of a child riding on the back of a dinosaur - what more can I say?

I also on one occasion went to ten different websites that questioned GW - when I did further digging, it turned out that they all came from one religio-con site that wrote them, and that the ten "institutions' didn't even exist.

There's just no credibility here.

Something to think about
Christians believe since the "majority" of the country is christian, in one form or another, that we should follow that dogma.

I might remind you that with that logic, Al Gore would've been President if we had only decided in our government that "majority" rules.

Hence: The Constitution

To put restraints on those of a mob mentality and represent ALL Americans, not just the ones you happen to be in favor with at the moment.

Y'er All Lame, It's Plate Tectonics!
I've told you once, now I tell you again, it's not global warming we need to fight, it's plate tectonics!! You peopole are thick, thick, thick!

It's not too late, however, to contribute to my plate tectonics awareness group - you may use credit card or PayPal to send $100, $50, even $5. All money is welcome.

With this money, I will set up a world-wide information station (web site) to notify the scientific community and all the communities across the globe of plate tectonics. Together, we will forge a way to prevent plate tectonics from destroying the planet.

Our motto: Canadaaaa! Get out of the way!!!!

Oscars & Nobel Prizes Are Political

Wrong, Dolly
On the 2000 Election (which the Left just can't seem to get over).

There was a full recount after the dust had settled, and not only had Bush won, but a full recount would have widened his margin of victory. You can read all about it here:

Dolly
Sorry it took me so long to respond, I felt I had to do some research to avoid speaking out of the wrong end of my spine. Basically, I was trying to find out when the last Ice Age began and ended and how long it lasted in relation to the comet's impact. I also looked up the albedo effect you mentioned. I was somewhat surprised to discover that, for the majority of the earth's geologic history, it has been MUCH warmer than what we now consider normal, and the comet's impact would have caused only a couple of thousand years worth of Ice Age on it's own. In fact many geologists consider us to be in an inter-glacial period of an Ice Age right now. As far as your feedback loop, you're right as far as you go, but these things are self-correcting (through removal of atmospheric greenhouse gasses by weathering due to higher temperatures), and besides, our own contribution is insignificant compared to natural sources such as oceans, plants, and animals.

We don't, but the left does!

all of these responses to
Gore;'s prize are so predictable, so funny, so lame.

First of all, in reponse to this strange column, the pentagon and the Defense department have already acknowledged that the shifting borders and vast migrations of people whohve been disrupted by changing weather is foreseen as a real problem which they are presently trying to analyze and prevent.

Secondly, there have been many political reactions to Nobel choices - when Martin Luther King won the prize, conservatives went ballistic and said the same things, basically, about the committee and it's choice. But the stated, politically correct form of the objection concerned not King's race but his "obnoxiousness as a man." He was a "windbag." He was "pompous and self-dramatizing," He was "holier than thou." Plus, he had started getting involved where he didn't belong, in raising questions about the Vietnam War.

Sorry you don't like the nobel choice, folks, but as for your response to it ----been there, done that.

renny
Your heart is in the right place, but your history and geography are flawed.

The War between the States ended with Lee's surrender in 1865.

Alexander II of Russia emancipated the serfs for reasons of his own having nothing to do with Lincoln. In fact, the order was signed the day before Lincoln even took office.

Most of the Spanish Empire was liberated in the first quarter of the Nineteenth Century, long before the 1898 war. And slavery was abolished in Cuba, one of Spain's last colonial possessions, in 1886.

No one was liberated in 1918. By the end of the First World War, more people were enslaved than had been before the war, largely as a result of the Bolshevik assumption of power in Russia. (I have long held that World War I is the greatest preventable catastrophe in history.)

And finally, Iraq is only a little bigger than California (169,000+ square miles versus 158,000+), but you omitted Afghanistan, which is almost the size of Texas. And between the two of them, that's almost 60,000,000 people.

But your larger point is spot-on: no entity deserves the Nobel nod more than the Armed Forces of the United States, a completely unalloyed force for worldwide good since its inception.

Gore's prize will go down in the records alongside those of Le Duc Tho, Yasser Arafat, Rigoberta Menchu, and Jimmy Carter.

"Great question"

This is not in reference to the topic you posted here, but your website. I have a "Great question" for the SaveTheCourt.org.

Q: Is not the greatest service provided by the Constitution the protection of the minority?

Let us quote them.

"Of course they say they speak for the majority of the American People"

The 58-42 vote to confirm Samuel Alito represents the second highest number of votes against a confirmed Supreme Court nominee in the nation?s history. But moral victories are not sufficient. Progressives must work to ensure that soon there will be a progressive Senate that better represents the values and beliefs of a significant majority of the American people.

And then ask that question. Having no doubt that ther does exist a written document which is the governing, established and ordained law of the land. A follow up question would be.

Q: Do we change the Constitution to benifit the majority?

at last!
With the universal adulation to be showered on him thanks to the Nobel committee, resources will now be placed at his disposal so that Al Gore can now finally lead us to the eradication of the greatest threat mankind has ever faced: Manbearpig. Go get him, Al!

Kodiak
That is why Lenin said it wasn't important who voted but who counted the votes.

Paranoia
I wasn't going to get into the "AGW" thing, as that line has been discredited so much that only the barking moonbats like "dolly" still believe it.

But this "they tapped my phone" thing in Vermont (remember, this is the state that has been electing communist Bernie Sanders to Congress for years) was too much.

"Crossed wires" in a telephone closet happen all the time. All it takes is for someone (a neighbor, whether in an office building, apartment complex, or a housing development) to order new phone service, a local telephone technician shows up, and in the process of turning up the new service, to screw up the wiring on a punchdown block and bingo, you can have a neighbor tied in to your phone line.

And as someone who has been dealing with the telcos of the world for over a quater century I can assure you that, no, unless you are able to prove they screwed up, no phone company is ever going to admit that they made a mistake, especially one like this.

As for this guy's computer, and the "application that disables all security software", it's called "spyware", "malware", and a variety of other names. And you can get a sample on your machine just by visiting the wrong web site.

Occam's Razor. It's not just for global warming anymore...:)

Food for the Llama
A cycle that feeds upon itself, getting worse and worse (or better and better) is a POSITIVE feedback loop, not a negative one. With your stunning grasp of science, I would have thought you knew that. Also, to answer your question, "What would George Bush be doing now if the votes in Florida had been re-counted?," he would be the President of the United States. Again, with your stunning grasp of political realities, I would have thought you would have kept up on the reports of news organizations who went forward and did an unofficial "recount" according to the proposed re-count rules. The only way for Al Gore to have won that one was to keep changing the rules until he found a scenario that would let him win (such as only re-counting the votes in heavily Democrat counties and suppressing the re-count vote from heavily Republican areas, such as military absentee ballots). But, of course, that was his intention all along. If the election doesn’t go your way, there’s always the courts. True, he did win the nation-wide popular vote, and if it weren't for that pesky Constitution, right now he could be cowering before international terrorism, renting out the Lincoln bedroom to Hollywood celebrities, and tanking the economy in the name of sound environmental fanatacism. That old piece of worthless parchment sure is a downer -- probably the number one threat to liberal progress in America. It's good to know he's got a Nobel Peace Prize, however! With his Academy Award he now only needs to win a Grammy to sweep the aging-liberal Triple Crown!

I do not see the argument as say the same for a right to privacy in our homes for example, or the fact I believe anything between a lawyer and their client is protected. Sorry but not one liberal can point out where this had harmed a private citizen of this country. It is acceptable to compliment you folks for the quality of your discourse on this forum? I, for one, am enjoying the give/take on the high level you all are exhibiting. Thank you.

How about the US military?
Since Lincoln freed 3.94 million slaves with the Eman. Proc. in 1863 and ended the War Between the States in 1864, the US has freed 1.5 billion people.

Alexander II of Russia so admired Lincoln that he then freed his serfs, approx. 3/4's of a Russian population of 67 million.

When we defeated Spain and dissolved the Spanish Empire in 1898, we freed 10-12 million slaves in South Am. alone. Since Spain covered 1/3 of the world, there were many more millions liberated.

We freed Europe from German domination in World Wars I and II. Europe's 1950 population was 738 million, so I'll propose that after WW I, there were 366 million freed (and that's a low figure).
Europe alone totals a billion liberated between winning in 1918 and winning in 1945.

After WW II, we instituted the Marshall Plan to feed, house, and rebuild a devastated Europe. Those millions saved have not been calculated.

In Korea, we saved 2.36 million in the south from being conquered by a dynasty whose major ec. policy is starving the population.

And in Iraq, 150,000 US soldiers freed 24,000,000 Iraqis in a country twice the size of CA.

Actually, we also make up almost all of the UN's peacekeeping forces. Out military services were the transportation on land and sea and air for tsunami relief in 2005. The arrival of the National Guard was the beginning of order after Katrina in the US Gulf states.

The UN should fall into the East River and feed the fishes and Al Gore should walk from speech to speech, but the US military deserves the Nobel for a century and a half of freeing 1.5 billion people world wide.

Dolly Llama

Look at any of the liberal arguments against our nations security...someone might listen in on their phone calls,...we might offend the Europeans,...the Mexicans,...the Muslims,...
All that it is supposed to take is for someone to say...the sun won't come out tomorrow if you don't do as I say, and we are supposed to give you credence. And, for some reason, conservatives don't call you on it.

I know and that’s why I stoop to using HWMBNT kind of mentality. That and the fact I am having FUN!

I am having more fun than a barrel of liberal monkeys at a topless code pinko rally!

Doc: You do realize that you're

debating with a "loser liberal?"

Remember, you can't debate with anyone who can't think logically.

And, then when they (finally) realize they've been busted, they launch off with insults, name calling, and their ususal ad hominem attacks.

Hey, Norwegians
Since you find an obscure committee of the "do-nothing" UN worthy of a Peace Award, how about giving a "Nobel" to NATO which has assured the peace of Europe since WW2?!?!?!?!?!?!?
How about a Nobel to the people of the United States of America who sacrificed so much in blood and treasure to make sure you aren't forced to speak German just now and answer to a foreign Furher?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
As individuals go, I thnk someone who reduced worldwide nuclear weaponry and set the stage for the fall of the Berlin Wall and the liberation of millions (including your fellows in eastern Europe) through the unraveling of the Soviet Empire PEACEFULLY might better meet Mr Nobel's criteria for his PEACE Award. Oh, but I forget, Mr Nobel's noble ambitions in establishing the award have been hijacked for base "politcally correct" purposes, and I guess we knew the value of this award was denegrated to the level of "UN peacekeeper" when it landed in the hands of a mass murderer like Yasser Arafat!

Dolly Llama
No not even that, after a period of time, the earth would clean and filter the junk and the cockroaches would reign supreme! Now if that mean al would survive, I could only hazard a mean guess. LoL

Another "loser liberal" heard from!

Must be the loser liberal alarm has gone out 'cause they're coming out of the woodwork!

I SAY
Shut down al, michael ”bigmac” moore, DC, hollyweird, the Useless Nations and the people who handed this windbag the prize and problem solved! All the co2 they emit from their bellowing would cease!

It Won't Matter
Controlling global warming is not the point of this exercise. If we get ten or twenty years down the road and there is no catastrophe it won't matter to those that have stolen our freedoms with a lie. Actually for them if they are able to get this done utilizing a lie it is better than if it was true. They will be in charge of everything and not in a position of having to deal with the adverse affects. Best of both worlds.

Jealousy
What a bunch of jealous conservative hypocrites.
Maybe they should have given it to Brainless George Bush, or stupid Ann Coulter.
My my.

wes: NO ONE!

He's always been a "loser liberal" and nothing else!

Note I didn't say a "liberal loser" since that would imply that some liberals might not be losers. But we know differently, don't we? :-)

Peace
If restrictions are put on development in poor countries, will it not likely lead to more unrest and more immigration and eventually war? How would that lead to peace? If acting against the production of energy leads to U.S. and world wide economic depression, would that be conducive to peace?
How can what Al Gore has done and wants done have any connection to the promotion of peace?
Has he suggested any other source of energy to replace fossil fuel? If so, I have missed it and I try to read the "progressive" magazines at the library. I would not want to support them by getting a subsciption. I also read lots of columns on the Internet. Get the headlines of the NYT and the WP online every day and watch TV news-even the MSM just to see what they are putting out.
