Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Did you hear the big, new developments with our government’s efforts to curb illegal immigration?

Probably not. The details got lost in the shuffle, like a lot of other important information emanating from Washington these days.

The details on the new developments are coming up, so stay tuned.

But first, you should know that Michael Chertoff spoke at the Fourth Annual Border Security Conference, held last week at the University of Texas at El Paso. And unfortunately, Mr. Chertoff’s comments at the conference seemed completely detached and disconnected from the “new developments” that ensued just days before.

On several previous occasions I have written here at Townhall Dot Com about the dismal performance of the second-term Bush Administration at communicating effectively, and meaningfully, to the American people. More specifically, I have often cited examples of the Administration’s apparent inability (or disinterest, as the case may be) to understand the perceptions that the American people have of their government with respect to illegal immigration, and its’ inability to anticipate how the American people might react to its’ proposals - - and lack of proposals - - regarding illegal immigration.

I have long maintained that the wartime President who ordered Americans in to battle on foreign soil to “hunt down the terrorists and bring em’ to justice” (a very noble objective, in my view) is, however fairly or unfairly, perceived by the American people as though he is ignoring the gross injustice that is staring all of us in the face - - the on-going assault on American lives and property at our nation’s southern border. Likewise, I have maintained that until the Administration speaks and acts with clarity to address this injustice, all its talk of “pathways to citizenship” and “worker visas” will be perceived as giving preferential treatment to “law breakers,” at the expense of law abiding American citizens.

Call it a “p.r. problem” if you want - - but it is most certainly a problem, and it is very real.

One might think that the stinging defeat of the so-called “comprehensive immigration reform bill” in Congress would bring this “p.r. problem” to the attention of the Adminstration. But there is little evidence that this has happened.

As for Mr. Chertoff, he stated at the UTEP Border Security Conference that he is still “disappointed” that Congress failed to pass the comprehensive reform bill, and because of the failure of Congress, customs and immigration officers have now had their workloads increased. Chertoff further stated “We’re faced with a system where our customs and immigration officers are saddled with the need to pursue people who are coming here to work, which distracts them from pursuing those who are coming to do harm.” Implicit in this statement from Mr. Chertoff is another example of his tone-deaf stance towards an injustice that Americans are angry about - - the reality that those who are “coming here to work” broke our nation’s laws getting here in the first place.

In concluding his presentation, Mr. Chertoff stated “In the end, it is very hard to secure the border with only brute force; it can be done, but it’s going to be a labor-intensive and time-consuming way to do it.”

So “brute force” is a problem. And doing things in a “labor-intensive” and “time-consuming” way is a problem, too. The Administration that has spent millions of American dollars and has spilled plenty of American blood to topple a brutal, murderous dictatorship in Iraq, now remains troubled by the task of securing our nation’s homeland.

This comparison may seem crude, or even inappropriate to some. But the Administration’s domestic security policy is viewed by the American people in the context of its’ foreign policy - - there is no separating the two. Like it or not, the American people perceive a mixed message from their government, and they are angry about it.

As for the “big new developments” on fighting illegal immigration, Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Gutierrez announced a twenty-six point plan on August 10th, three days before Chertoff spoke at the UTEP conference. The “plan” entailed such things as adding border security agents, border barriers, and expanding the forthcoming “border wall.” But Chertoff apparently didn’t see fit to talk about these “new developments” in El Paso, perhaps because some of the tougher aspects of the proposal may have seemed offensive to an audience on the southern border.

On can only hope that Washington fixes the “p.r. problem” sooner, rather than later.

Excellent column!
Makes a very important point very well.

The Bush administration is well past its "use by" date. These guys are clueless and arrogant, and are firmly in the habit of giving the American people the finger on an important issue.

I eagerly await 20 Jan 2009.

Excellent Article.
The president and his administrations lack of addressing the illegal immigration situation is disgusting but it is not just the prseident and his Republican Water Boys at faul but politicians in general.
The American citizen is being sold out to Big Business, Cheap Labor, and the lobbyist. The country is one BIG Garage Sale in progress.

Bush Bombs Border
Pres. Bush panders big-time to Hispanics. Hopefully the Republican party will not follow suit. If they do, you can bet the bank that a liberal democrat will be our next Pres.

Chertoff
Chertoff is also member of CFR and on board with globalist agenda. How can you explain Bush's amnesty bill, trade agreements, giving Mexicans access to SS, turning trucking over to Mexico, etc?

If the people were outraged over the immigration bill imagine what the reaction would be if they figured out what is really behind it all. They want to kill the middle class and our country.

BUSH WILL NEVER DO ANYTHING TO CLOSE OUR BORDER!

National security? That is a joke. what will be coming into our country in containers offloaded in Mexico and drivin into the country by Mexicans and supposedly monitered by the Chinese?!!

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=53287

Laura Ingraham is going to interviewing Jerome Corsi on monday about SPP. IT is ABOUT time someone started acknowledging what is going on. Every candidate needs to answer the question if they support the globalist agenda or our national sovereignty!

Whitewashing the Fence
“In the end, it is very hard to secure the border with only brute force; it can be done, but it’s going to be a labor-intensive and time-consuming way to do it.”

And about to become harder, no doubt.
Sounds like Chertoff is opting for “break it: and they will FIX it” my way strategy. So create a bigger crisis.

Lets expect problems to get more dysfunctional the harder they try. Yea, that’s the ticket.

I called ICE about Elvira Arellano
coming to Los Angeles to speak.

The lady who answered the phone told me that they had many calls about her.

I told her politely that I insisted that ICE agents arrest her, and she hung up on me.

This is really depressing.

We have a government that is determined to show favoritism to law breakers. We have to take our country back from the Globalists.

Good column...
I believe the GOP is going through a seismic upheaval. Tammy Bruce was right about Bush - he's not really a conservative. He's actually quite liberal.

JFK cut taxes too when he was president, but that didn't make him conservative. Bush has spent like a drunken Democrat and grew the size and scope of government to the point that the conservative base was none too eager to vote last November.

When Bush will protract the War on Terror in other continents and have the NSA conduct wiretaps on international communications, but doesn't do something as logical in such a circumstance as we have as securing our borders, particularly with Mexico, it merely perpetuates the apathy the leftist media wishes to spread about the war itself. If defeating terrorism is our goal in the War on Terror, why not make it a bit harder for them to sneak into this country by securing the border and deploying soldiers to the area? (By the way, given what I understand about warfighting in the 21st Century, we do not need 200,000 troops to guard the southern border - we could do it with two Army task forces (brigade or division sized elements)of diversified and swift assets. Force multipliers are a modern miracle).

Border Security
What a crock of crap coming out of the mouth of an idiot The Champion of double talk, Chernoff. They want to hire more Border Patrol agents but the Border patrol states that it's not their Job to apprehend Illegal Border Crossers. Who's job is it to arrest the women staying in a church in Illinois.? Now shes touring the Country flipping the finger to our Citizens and Government. We better start to take this Country back from these traitors, The Politicians, the President and the Neo-Cons.

Beyond me how the administration can be
It is beyond me how the administrations view can be so far apart from the citizens view on this issue. If amnesty makes a comeback in congress this fall (news reports this week suggested this) the republicans are cooked. Instead of using it as leverage against liberals they'll have it used against them in time. Probably already the case for McCain, Graham, Martinez. I know I couldn't hold my nose and vote for Martinez again.

Illegal Aliens & Bush Administration
Austin, your comments are so right on, that it is disheartening to read. Don't you understand? The Bush administration doesn't care that Americans are angry about them not taking care of this issue. They are on their way out and will do what they want to do regardless of the wishes of citizens. Whimpering, promising to do better and then going ahead doing, or rather not doing, what they promised, just like a spoiled child who didn't get his way when their amnesty bill did not pass.

bush and illegals
I have maintained theat the president is the leading cheerleader encouraging illegals to steal into our country and loot our social services. He has failed to up[hold his oath of office to defend this country against foreign invasion. His willing accomplices of the left have little ot no concern in regards to the huge financial cost this invasion will cost our society. Estimates claim illegals cost our society 220 billion dollars a year. Exactly how do illegals with the equivilence of a 7th grade educacation and very limited job skills help the most technological on earth. There is a limit to how many lettuce pickers and lawn cutters are needed in america to begin with. But what is even more amazing, is that a country located next to america with wealth in natural resources could have remained a third world toliet. If these people are so ambitious and hard working why didn't they transform the nation into much more. What we will see is that left unchecked these illegals will not contributre to a robust society but rather denigrate into the same situation they left behind. Lacking skills, education and a real woprk ethic many will be content to continue their learned lifestyle. Only now they will be doing it in our country, rather than their country of origin. The time is past to deal with these illegals. Ship them to their countries of origin and let their governemtns tend to their needs. We didn't vote for their right to steal into our country, break our laws and loot our social services. But once here they act both entitled to these services and act outraged that we demand they get the h*ll out

SHOWING US HIS MIDDLE FINGER
Arrogance to the nth power!!! - "Coming to work or coming to do harm"???
ASK 'EM TO CARRY SIGNS, JEERNOFF!
The full fence will never be built..
"google": "Nafta Superhighway" :(

Strong on .....
This article hits the nail on the head. The President will help anyone but his own people. His disinterest in protecting us is shown every day. He still thinks the criminals who cross out borders (and that included all who come without papers) are just "coming to work." Does he, or that poor excuse of a DHS head, not realize that all illegals have broken the law. It seems to be okay if you break in, steal IDs and Social Security numbers. If you're poor, you are exempt from obeying the laws. Do you suppose Americans can start using that excuse when they commit crime? How about the daily toll of Americans killed by illegal drunk drivers? Every day we read of another life taken by people who get behind a wheel, drunk, and take another life or leave people crippled. My husband and I saw an Hispanic get into a car parked next to ours a couple of days ago. He had two bottles of beer in his hands and got behind the wheel. Has anyone heard Mr. Bush, Mr. Chertoff, Mr. McCain, Mr. Kyl and one who should know better, Mr. Kennedy - speak out against these crimes. Guess
that's okay too. If they were serious, they would pick up the felon who has ventured out of the church to go demand that we overlook our laws. She needs to be sent home along with her anchor baby and told that if she comes back, she will go to prison for twenty years.

Mexican truckers on US highways
Mexican's learn vehicle operation within a completely different driving environment than US drivers; in Mexico, drivers operate from a very offensive, as opposed to defensive, driving stance.
Now, our "decider in chief" and his fellow Havard MBA business pals, are going to allow Mexican truckers right on past our sovereign borders and onto our highways and to their unloading destination; it will save time and money. Yep, save time and money, AND make our highways infinitely more dangerous AND cost countless US citizens their employment in border warehousing AND costs US truckers loads they currently command under existing law between those border warehouses and the cargo destinations!
The "game" these days in US politics, both major political parties play, seems to be who can destroy the sovereign United States of America faster and by which means!

Once Perception Is Not Once Intentions
Chertoff gave a "offering a carrot" speech. By showing the problems facing the nation, it reminded the people Congress' failure to past laws. That was the jist of the speech. By letting the message sink in and good news that was announce later, it was a psychological boost. I would think the President would be the one to announce the news than Chertoff. I think that would be a better PR policy. You can say, Chertoff played the "bad guy" giving a harsh realism and Bush played the "good guy" giving a solution. That is why Chertoff didn't make that announcement knowing 3 days prior to the speech that they were going to be hard on employers hiring illegals. That and the build of the border fence and supporting it is our immigration reform.

National security isssue
It defies analysis why with no need for any more laws--the ones we have are not enforced--that our borders (south and north) are not secured, having had a direct attack on our soil in 2001.

Europe, which now brags about about the "borderless" EU, still requires foreigners (peole from ANY another country) have a passport to register at a hotel or write a check, rent a car, and--sometimes--use a credit card. They know where people are. In Germany, when you move, you tell the mayor of your town that you're departing and report to the mayor of your new town that you are now a resident. We used to require that parolees and ex-con register in communities, but have now evidently become so enlightened that we don't require those notifications anymore.

One of the suspected murderers in last week's killings of college students in Newark is an illegal who was just indicted for raping a 5 year old and has an even earlier criminal record. His suspected partner was "deported" in 1993, but it obviouly didn't take. The families of those deceased students ought to be able to sue the feds for their incompetent protection of the natural native population from foreign depredation.

Peoples that don't protect themselves threaten their own survival.

Mountain Rose
Your anecdote describes perfectly how our federal government treats American citizens: just hang up on 'em.

Bush and Chertoff cannot justify their lack of interest (or their unwillingness) to enforce the laws regarding illegal entry, document falsification and I.D. theft.

If they know something that general public is not aware of, let them communicate that to the people. We're not stupid. Maybe there's a good reason so many laws are being ignored for the "good" of illegal aliens.

Or maybe not.

WOULD THIS SIMPLE TRUTH WAS FORCE FED...
Haven't seen a TH thread for months where so many of us out here are on the same page. Even the usual "Bush Bashers'" have some meant on their words this morning. (Exclusive of any rabid Pastor Chuck Baldwin types of course.)

Would that we could find a way to hog tie these career loons in Washington, stick a funnel in their lying mouths, and force feed them articles like this one by Austin Hill. Maybe; and it is a long shot, they may get at least a taste of what the majority of voters are obviously demanding out of them.

Goodness knows, our leaders have been 'fasting' common sense long enough.

Finally, please pray for my wife and me. Lindsey Graham is our senator (small 's' intended!)

the real problem here
Quite frankly, Presidente Jorge is a globalist, open borders, Quisling-In Chief with regard to the ILLEGAL alien invasion. He believes fundamentally in the NAU/SPP goals to morph America... here are his goals on official W.H. letterhead, followed by the NAU game plan:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/03/20050323-1.html
http://www.spp.gov/

What we are faced with is a powerful unholy alliance of self-serving strange bedfellows between the Chamber lobby for miscreant employers, hispanic groups seeking the Reconquista, and leftists who KNOW that almost all ILLEGALS will become big entitlement government voters, thus assuring the morphing of America into a hispanic welfare state that the plutocratic liberal "elites" hope to rule-- just like in Latin America. Chertoff is a leftist; he clerked for socialist Justice Brennan; Jorge picked him becuase he also does not believe in stopping the ILLEGAL invasion. Jorge promised Mexico he would work for THEM on the recent Scamnesty legislation-- traitorous! He is a liberal, CFR, big government, neoCON-duped RINO! We have been used and betrayed!

SPELL CHECK...
Sorry fols thats: ...meat on their words this morning.

Aw geees.

SPELL II
Have mercy. That's "folks" not "fols"...

My spirit is willing, but my typing is weak!

Conspiracy theories
Some people do claim there is a movement for a united "union" of N. Am. like the EU and that Gei. Bush is part of this move.

In posts here yesterday, there was a part of the recently defunct immigration bill that specified the beginning of the dissolution of borders among Canada, the US, and Mex.

Karaden
Heads must roll is the only solution. So long as incumbents get elected at a 90% plus rate, they won't give a tinker's dam about anything but feathering their own nest. I am eagerly looking forward to voting against Mel Martinez, the RINO who sold out Florida conservatives who put him in office.

Does any one
really suppose that the die wasn't cast before Jorge and the that the trend won't continuue with who ever is elected?
First, the congress is pretty much titular, the executive is morphing into authoritarian, and the courts are legislative.
And they all know that with the exception of a very small minority, that as long as things are good, or that everyone is equally miserable ...
this is easily doable.

Wayfinder
No additional troops, fence or effort is needed at the border to halt illegal immigration. Merely prosecute to the limit of the law those now being apprehended and promptly returned to promptly try again. When getting caught is punished, the numbers would soon go down.

Perhaps Bush wants to "turn the other
cheek" toward the Elvira Arellano's of the world.

But when he does, he forces this upon the entire country, and this is not always the right thing to do.

It is one thing to allow the Left to parade a pinhead like Cindy ShehanShehan around, but when they start sending Arellano on tour, that is the absolute limit!

Elvira has no business being here and should be arrested.

Started with Kennedy
in 1966, when the "new" immigration emphasized "peopole of color" and made immigration from traditional Eur. countries much more difficult, a prob. that still exists today.

In the '50s, Eisenhower asked for a w^^b**k bill and deported 1.5 illegals, the last time the fed. gov't attempted anyt$hing so non-PC (PC didn't exist in the '50s).

The 1986 amnesty promised the borders would be enforced so that amnesty would never be offered again. Good luck. 1986 added the "anchor" baby garbage that allows an illegal to give birth here and the baby (a citizen) then can "runite" its family from anywhere.

Truth is Congress could change the interpretation that anyone born here to a foreigner is a citizen. That's not really const. but comes from (natch) a Sup. Ct. decision. Cong. could override it.

I have a friend whose idea is we should hire Donald Trump to build the border fence, hire Dog the Bounty Hunter to find Osama BL, and let Simon Crowell serve as moderator for pres. debates. Maybe then some progress would be made. The fed gov't is mired in ineffectuality. Remember that when you want them to take over national health care.

a
Another Florida lad or lass. Martinez is doomed. I can't believe he will be re-elected. He can never capture the left wing votes he's courting, because the DEMs will have no trouble putting up someone to his left, and you and i and a few hundred thousand others will never vote for him again. I just hope we can replace him in the primary with a staunch conservative. Or at least an honest politician. You know, when he's bought, he stays bought.

The truth is that over half of ILLEGALS are low income and have only a 7th grade education, factors that correlate HIGHLY to pandemic crime. The spread of hispanic gangs alone is overwhelming evidence of their pernicious threat. By race, hispanics have the highest school droput rate, which in turn correlates to myriad social pathologies. The facile myths of alleged benefits of ILLEGALS are belied by egregious realities: crime, drugs, gangs, tax evasion, illegitimacies, welfare fraud, indentity theft, barrio blight, school enervation, and socio-economic and cultural decimation.

We must stanch the ILLEGAL invasion (including cracking down on the millions who overstay visas) or lose America; we are inexorably slouching toward Gommorah. We should radiate it like a cancer before it can destroy the whole body politic. We will devolve and erode into a third world entitlement welfare state if we give ILLEGALS the vote, which will come before they get citizenship and accelerate the latter.

Build the wall, make English the official language, require a tamper-proof I.D. for ANY non-citizen to function here, enforce existing laws by REALLY cracking down on miscreant employers, allow local governments the right to deal with ILLEGALS, flatly prohibit any welfare for ILLEGALS such as the families of anchor babies, and interpret and apply the 14th Amendment as intended-- the ILLEGAL alien madres of anchor babies are NOT subject to our jurisdiction.

Crime
How many vicious crimes against American citizens do illegal aliens have to commit before the elites wake up? Why wasn't Jorge Bush at the funerals of the 3 Newark kids who were executed by the illegal alien? I don't think Bush, Chertoff, Fred Barnes, etc. are clueless--rather,they are evil.

Mr Hill writes:
"So “brute force” is a problem. And doing things in a “labor-intensive” and “time-consuming” way is a problem, too. The Administration that has spent millions of American dollars and has spilled plenty of American blood to topple a brutal, murderous dictatorship in Iraq, now remains troubled by the task of securing our nation’s homeland."

Nothing more needs be said to define all arguments over this invasion from Mexico.

Nothing more needs be said concerning the two faced, forked tongue of the President.
The man is just the focal point of the entire deciet laden times we live in, and the very charactor of the present day political, media, money loving hypocrites who are all owned by the super rich men who run this country from such as the CFR.

Their plans (for us all) is the force behind every lying statement coming from such as this man Chertoff.

A rebellion is the only avenue left to preserve America from the outright and on-going destruction of our sovernity.

Using every avenue available to us before the last and only one left when the force of government is used unlawfully against its own citizens.

The people themselves rule this nation and is the final authority over all three branches of government.

The nation has been feminized with indoctrination to bring the weakness of conceding rights and acceptance of men as rulers and not representatives of the people.

Any voice that speaks up to represent the will of the people concerning this invasion is branded a "wacko" by the criminals who intend to destroy all liberty of the indiviudal for the collective.

Mountain Rose
I applaud you for calling ICE and insisting that Elvira be arrested. However, after the lady you were speaking to hung up on you, you should have called back and asked to speak to her supervisor. Not there? Speak to the supervisor's supervisor. Work your way up the chain until you get someone who is willing to give you an answer and assure you that the person who hung up on you will be disciplined. DO NOT ACCEPT this shrug off from government bureaucrats. I have found that telling the person I am speaking to that I will be working my way up the chain unless they fix my problem now gets some action out of them. Because when you get the guy at the top, he first asks the person at the bottom why they didn't just fix your problem. And the person at the bottom knows they will hearing from the guy at the top. So, give 'em hell. And keep calling.

Reconquistas
Last night, my husband and I were watching the movie, Stand and Deliver, on SITV. It was kind of unnerving, during a station-related break, to hear a young, smiling Hispanic woman state, "We ARE going to take over!" How can the U.S. Government officials be unaware of a problem that is being openly declared on national television?

Foreclosures and Illegals...
I retired from the US Navy and started a second career in Real Estate. I also picked up a part time job doing contract work for the major banks in the form of foreclosure inspections. In 2005 there were 50 that were processed, in 2006 I processed 700. It's now August and we just hit 1500 (after hiring two additional people because I've been working my tail off just trying to keep up).

I cover one county in Illinois.

95% of the foreclosures have hispanic names.

I'm quite positive a government bailout (our taxpayer dollars) will rescue the mortgage industry from the bad loans they gave to the illegals.

I will never again vote for anyone who voted for amnesty, nor will I cast my vote for anyone who denies the creation of the North American Union.

Let's face the facts folks, If we do not start marching in the streets and vote in Constitutionally minded individuals - we lose, and yes, that includes the children.

some clarity...
I will not cast my vote for those who deny that the NAU is being created.

Chertoff Stays In Closet
Why doesn't Chertoff come out of the closet and let everyone know that he is gay. Is he ashamed of it?

illegals
why do so many politicians fail to understand you can't grow an economy with third world trash. The come here uneducated, unskilled and no respect for our laws and customs. But they have mastered being victims. Buit then that's what the dims want. What happens when we become a nation of victims after the dims further impliment socialism.

Our Ground Forces

Our politicians are front men for these super rich individuals like Rockefeller.

But in the United States special significance is placed on the written Constitution and laws. In the absence of a common language, culture or value systems in a heterogeneous population, they are as close as we come to an expression of national culture."

When all living souls get defined by how much money they have as it is today, the Pulpits of the "Preachers of Righteousness" have become the pulpits for the preachers of money, the Golden Calf of Idolatry.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ, the once honored truth that gave America its Liberty is now dishonored by the pulpit owning media elites.

Their gospel is the Love of Money and worship of the Golden Calf.

Its the Corporations that want this controlled war in the Mid-East, and the ones who want this Invasion from Mexico.
Their attitude towards the American Citizen.

Roberto purports to eschew those on both the left and right, really because he truly stands for nothing-- an empty suit like Sam Donalson or Dan Rather-- a magpie braying anomolous propagation incessantly without a real message.

borders
If you can not stop illegal immigrants from entering the United States how can you stop terrorists. The way I see how the Government is supporting the border patrol is if an illegal stands on the border with a weapon the border patrol is supposed to back off or they will be prosecuted if they stop this illegal from entering the United States. There is no way you can send back all illegal immigrants to there home countries but at least we should be able to stop anyone from coming in.

Good riddance to Rove, Bush and most of the current GOP - a bunch of devious, corrupt, sell-out, betraying traitorous liars and backstabbers.

the ILLEGAL alien crime factor
The government admits that 28% (almost all hispanic) of incarcerated felons are ILLEGALS. Since we are told that there are 12 million ILLEGALS here, and a good percentage of them are allegedly non-hispanic visa violators, ILLEGALS are > 10x overrepresented among the prison populations! Yet Geraldo and obsequious Smilin' Juan Hernandez have the unmitigated gall to purport that ILLEGALS are less prone to crime than the native born. Also, some suggest that it is simply conservative Republican, nativist, racist xenophobes who seek to stanch the flow of ILLEGALS. If so, then > 70% of Americans are nativists! Facts ARE such stubborn things!

WE elected these idiots!
And we can un-elect them. I normally disapprove of one-issue voting, but this issue is fundamental to the safety of our country. During future congressional/senate campaigns we must pound the candidates with this question. If they equivocate or affirm open borders vote against them. If you're active in party politics, work to find candidates who have national safety at heart.

"An audience on the southern border?" You mean *Hispanics?*

Cripes; talk about a communication problem. This sort of
mealy-mouthed euphemisizing is the sort of thing I associate
with liberals, not with conservatives.

As for Hispanics being offended by strong talk about immigration
control, what's up with that? One would think that Hispanic
Americans would be every bit as opposed to uncontrolled borders
as any other Americans would be, and for the same reasons. When
they aren't, the obvious question as to where their loyalties
truly lie should be part of the public debate.

follow the money
The GOP is lacking for cash right now and they don't want to alienate their biggest contributors, like agribusiness. The Dem candidates, Hillary and Obama, raised far more contributions than the combined totals of all the GOP candidates combined. The GOP feels it needs every dime it can get.

Agribusiness, which depends heavily on cheap illegal labor, has been a major contributor to GOP campaigns and was expected to do so again this year:

http://opensecrets.org/industries/indus.asp?Ind=A

With the nationalist and nativist parts of the GOP base now at war with agribusiness (and their favored politicians) over their hiring of illegal labor, the GOP coalition is now fractured, at war with itself.

LOL, Lodestar
You say Roberto's back, dropping his usual loads of guano?

You're giving guano a bad name, my friend.

Thank Goodness for Jimmy Carter
Without him, GB-2 would be a contender for the worst president in history.

Thank You,
Just_aJoe.

I try to do my best.

Both Bush and Graham now
want you to think they are going to get tough on the illegals. LOL. I even got an email from Graham's office describing a new bill he is supporting for getting tough on illegals. Well, let's see, he described the last bill as getting tough but all it was was amnesty and unenforcable gobbledigook. I haven't researched his newest trash but if it ever makes it out of committee I will.

Both Bush and Graham have exceeded their "use by" date. And McShame, he is toast and I doubt that he will even be reelected Senator.

jimmy carter
actually this illegal problem is your fault. If you had done something more productive like devoting all your time to building houses, things would be better. Instead you engaged in peanut farms which by necessity required illegals. You and other ag producers are responsible for own downward slide of open borders

Heard about um?We moniter assailants.

The Dems will be just a bad!
We are in a lose, lose situation. Damn. Just heard the Iowa Democrat Debate, and not one discussed illegal immigration, not one. The problem is that Hillary may be our next president. Hold on to your butts, we are in for a wild ride folks.

I envision you as a liberal who feels the poor need to be helped (but not with his $)who thinks Clinton was our BEST president (no cap on purpose)and we need the illegals to do HIS dirty work. He is for national health care (a family member or two are physicians, no need for him to worry about good health care) and he assumes all who write here actually voted for Bush.
All I want, for this particular subject, is for our borders to be secured and ALL law enforcement check for legal status. Stop these stupid "sanctuary cities" I am a second generation American. My grandparents learned to speak english, worked hard to make a home here and loved this country. They would be saddened if they were alive to see the crumbling of a once Great Nation.

"Jorge doesn't care" is the most common view expressed here in this column. Sounds very right to me.

He fully expects another CFR member to be elected, and cares less whether they are Democrat or Republican. It is the club they belong to, not the party, that matters to the cartel of the CFR's. Party to them means nothing. Only their affiliation to the "One Worlders" club matters to this cabal of "who needs the U.S.A. if we get the world in trade".

Get this and understand this. It's all a big game of chess to these people. They are on mission and have a schedule, and screw the American people.

That Bush should thank Carter. I think Bush is worse than Carter by a mile.Carter was just an incompetent politician who was honest. He proved you cannot be an honest politician. Bush is just a lying scumbag RINO politician that fooled all of the conservatives.. Big difference. F. Thompson, Romney and Rudy are just like Bush. Conservatives can't be dumb enough to be fooled again, can they?

Bending over backwards
Everyone in the MSM predictably bites their tongues and bends over backwards to avoid saying:

Its the Democrats who voted as a block and even stole the vote in order to give illegals and their "issue" access to the rapidly depleating
Social Security, Medicare, Medicade, ADC,
education, school lunch, rent subsidy funds! Talk about removing the incentives
that cause the illegals to come here in the first place. Hell, they are being bribed to come
here!

And by all means, lets not admit the theft of a
Social Security Number (a persons identy, if you will) is a felony! And how 'bout giving them privilidges we deny to our law abiding citizens
such as in state tuition and tax releif (pay 3 of the last 5 years of unfiled tax obligations).
Lets face it folks, the only part of the illegal
problem that we need to address is the 95% that
is Hispanic. They are the "baby factories" that fill our schools and require the SCHIP insuranse
until they, at 25, already have 3 babies of their own covered by the same Socialist programs.

Okay, I get that we're all angry,
but when it comes to the crux of the issue, all of us still seem to be either crying for the current Gov. to do something, that they are not doing something, that they don't want to do something, that they can't do something, or some combination of the above. Doesn't that make us all liberals?

My understanding is that a liberal is someone who waits for the Gov. to do for them, and if the Gov. doesn't do it it does'nt count (as an example, I refer you to embryonic stem cell research, which has never been illegal for private industry to engage in...). So where does this leave us? What are our positive options on this issue?

Sure we can vote for change, when we can, and lobby for change when we can't vote for it. Of course this leaves us back waiting for the Gov. to do the solution(s). Are we truly dependent on the Gov. to let us know what to do, or more to the point, to do it for us like good little liberals?

Ladies and gentlemen, what can _we_ do?

Is Bush being blackmailed?
I mean what has Mexico got on him for him to continue this way?

Mexico dropped all charges against Dog the bounty hunter. But guess what, he got a notice from OUR government, that the charges weren't dropped here. Can you believe it? He said he can't understand who he has offended in high places, but evidentally he has.

What say you George???

Chertoff
Does Mr. Chertoff plan on employing thousands of clairvoyants to work with our immigration officers to determine which ILLEGAL aliens have come here to work or do us harm. Or maybe both! Would that need to be noted on their ILLEGAL ID and S.S. card.

Thanks to the wonderful job our POLITICIANS! are NOT doing.

Mr. Chertoff please resign

I don’t know about anybody else but this guy does not fill me with confidence. He may just be parroting the party line. If that’s the case the party better start listening to its members. They are totally out of sync with all their supporters on this issue. Big business may want cheap labor but the rest of us want the laws obeyed. This has NOTHING to do with Hispanics. It has everything to do with protecting our laws and institutions. Simply put can I decide which laws I want to obey? This situation in MUCH worse than the administration and media would lead you to believe. In big cities the police routinely allow illegal to ignore even traffic laws. Yeah they ticket them but know they have no license, insurance, or legitimate address. They know they won’t show for court etc. So why should the rest of us bother? Because we, being legit, would be prosecuted. It's time we stood up and throw these rascals out of office. What ever happened to the Grand old Party???? Never mind the socialist and communists that have taken over the Democrat party. We are in real trouble its time to clean house. Maybe we need an anti incumbent election. Let’s start fresh and see if it gets any better cause these people are not getting the job done.

demmys and pubbies
Bush is now in theWH,but it won't make any difference which party occupies it.The only chance we have is to elect anti immigration senators and representatives. The sad fact is that in both parties you have alot of voters that only care if their party is in power.Unless both parties rise up as one on this issue we will have it shoved down our throats or shoved up our rear end.As noted above the demmies debate in Iowa made no mention of immigration.Old George step and fetch it didn't want to embarrass his buddies

I have an idea
Where to begin taking our government back and out of the hands of the manipulating political parties.

BY-PASS them both, write in Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo.

Begin uniting under one issue at a time, no other issue matters if we lose on immigration.

For one its a one issue election, stop this invasion.

We need a new party
Lets call it the Constitution Party and make congress, the president, and the supream court abide by it.

Constitution Party , great idea

The Constitution?
What's that?

Do you mean that old parchment in the National Archives, written by a bunch of old dead white guys, that doesn't mean anything anymore? Kinda like the petroglyphs of the old Indian tribes that you find carved in the rocks?

Jeff
You ask: “What_can_we_do?” As individuals, given there are 12,000,000+ wet backs here; the answer is: –> nothing having any significant effect. And waiting for Govt. to take action is not the answer. But on a personal level, I no longer hire maintenance workers nor rent apartments to anyone unable to establish resident status. Ive also fired 4 workers and evicted 1 tenant for being here illegally. But this is just a “feel good” reaction, having no impact on the problem.

On a more Extreme level there’s a “rumor” in my area that some local “employers” have been “hiring” wet backs as temp laborers. These temps are collected at gathering spots infamous for such collection; the parking lots of Home Depot, which is the nations largest supplier of such labor. It’s “rumored” that these temps are never seen again. This is just a rumor. And even if true, I neither suggest nor subscribe to such Extreme and risky measures. But there’s one interesting thing Ive noticed since the rumor started late last year. There are now significantly fewer wet backs congregating at Home Depot parking lots in my area.

Talent Scout almost but no cigar
I went to your link. I can agree with much of whats there. Being an agnostic however would seem to disqualify me, along with a lot of other people. I do believe in seperation of church and state. To me that means there should be no state religion. If I missread the platform I apologize.

Understand
The Church and State issue has become so confusing in the last 40 years the truth of it all has almost been lost.

The way I read some of the mens stand in this issue does not differ from the very men who Founded the Nation.

No law for a State Religion and no Law against Religion.

A government for all men, believer or non-believer alike with equal protections of the law.

And all with the same rights in the Bill of Rights.
Most all of the Founders were deeply religious men, but the last thing they believed (as I) is to force religion on anyone.
That is not even taught in the bible and when it was used, it was an abuse of power in old Europe.

These are things I believe in
Seven Principles of the Constitution Party are:

1. Life: For all human beings, from conception to natural death;
2. Liberty: Freedom of conscience and actions for the self-governed individual;
3. Family: One husband and one wife with their children as divinely instituted;
4. Property: Each individual's right to own and steward personal property without government burden;
5. Constitution: and Bill of Rights interpreted according to the actual intent of the Founding Fathers;
6. States' Rights: Everything not specifically delegated by the Constitution to the federal government is reserved for the state and local jurisdictions;
7. American Sovereignty: American government committed to the protection of the borders, trade, and common defense of Americans, and not entangled in foreign alliances.

I am not sure if in the future world we are already entering, we can stay out of alliances. Do you realize what kind of power the new China will have in just a very short few years from now.??. The USSR comes up short to that kind of power.

The Chinese are the new big boys on the block, and just as they don't care whether there is lead in the paint or antifreeze in the toothpaste (about 100 people died from the toothpaste thing) or anything else they make or do, they will care less about us or anyone once there power is realized and becomes a very palpable thing.

Alliances are fraught with problems, but also with solutions.

Well besides the Islamic maniacs we now have Russia and China running joint military exercises. With Putin at least a staunch Russian nationalist and China getting all the world manufacturing dollars we may be in a world of S**t regardless of what we do. In the meantime we will continue to play partisan politics at home.

3rd Party
I've never seen a better time for a 3rd Party, to actually win the election.

WE are overrun with illegals, thumbing their nose at our laws, we have had thousands of USA citizens killed and victimized by illegals, it's as though our politicians prefer illegals over their own citizens!

Besides all the problems illegals cause tax payers, we have lost just about all our manufacturing, then our government brings in Visa workers to take what's left!

We are going down the tubes people!

I guess what you fail to undersatand about life is that when you work for a boss, you either support him or find a new job. How many of us have toiled under terrible bosses but knew that to disagree led to unemployment. Further you assign your successes to the boss and take the blame for his failures. That is the nature of not being the boss. Have you actually worked for someone or been a part of some team. Or stated another way, to get along you go along. That's life's realities

nothing will change until the top position changes. The boss still dictates policy. Until bush stops encouraging illegals nothing will change. He seems to hear the cries of illegals but can't hear the voice of the voters and citizens. There is however one bright note for the future. There will be no post presidentcy for bush other than attending state funerals. There will be no call for his meeting behind the scenes to help strategy, and he will not be writing any books defending his years in office. Unless he suddeenly awakens from his illegals slumber his domestic legacy will be viewed as total failure. Even carter was considered nothing more than a crank clown until he jumped on the bash bush bandwagon and his creds grew amongst the wackos on the far left

The two parties are not going to do anything different, both are committed to the idea of one world government. It is the attitude prevalent among all elites worldwide. The plan is to construct this one world government in increments, slowly moving towards it. That is the impetus behind the NAU, the EU expansion, and of course, the UN.

The obstacle to this plan is the US Constitution. With that neutralized, as envisioned by Sandra Day O'Connor, the path to the new world order will be easier. Meanwhile, the plan is to promote more socialistic federal programs, weakenen the financial condition of the nation, emasculate the military, and flood the country with more dependent type immigrants who want more big government. Once the national character that we inherited from the founding fathers is diluted, the going will be easier. A PC, everyone is a victim, we need the government to take care of us way of thinking is what will deliver America into the hands of this internationalist cabal.

If you want to prevent this from happening and secure the future of this great nation and our children with the original principles that made America the greatest nation ever, you are going to have to change how you think. In addtiton, you are going to have to stop voting for the lesser of two evils and show the elites that we are the rightful owners of the nation.

I urge you to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. We can do something different and challenge the accrual of power in the hands of the Dem/GOP/MSM elites. If we give them the Presidency again, they will assume that they are invulnerable to the will of the people and their internationalist, big government agenda will continue unabated. With both parties, you are going to once again be offered the lesser of two evils! Are you really going to vote that way again?

Check out my site, what's to lose? They have already stolen our inheritance, let's take it back. Thanks, Joe

you asked a redundant question. There is no way to make a third world toliet any worse, in fact the hurricane may improve it. But my latest thinking on the illegals is this. How can a third world nation live next door to the most technologically advanced country in the world and remain as obsolutely useless as mexico is. Yet the president and his allies on the left seem to think these third world refugees are going to save our economy. Exactly how many lettuce pickers do you need. But more importantly where is the progress amongst second and third generation hispanics. Their school drop out rate rivals those of the dims favorite mionority and yet there are still those singing their praises. But how do you make chicken soup from chicken shite?

Whose fault?
It's Bush 2's fault.
It's Clinton's fault.
It's Bush 1's fault.
It's Reagan's fault.
It's Carter's fault.
It's the fault of every totally incompetent congress for the last 50 years.
It's the fault of every incompetent (and politial) Supreme Court for the last 50 years.

Stop complaining if you helped elect any or all of the above. Stop voting for idiots because of their looks or because they'll do something for you. Start hiring judges, congressmen, senators and presidents who will take care of our country.

We all need tell these fools where to shove their ear marks and any other bribes they dangle in front of our noses in order to stay in office.

Our government should do only what is specified in The Constitution. They should get out of the way with regard to everything else, so that we can take care of ourselves.

If you can't make it in this country without sucking "your share" of my tax dollars out of the pot, then maybe you just won't make it. That's your problem...nobody elses.

Its certain we need to have friends, but just take NATO for instance for entangling alliances.

62 years since we defeated Nazi Germany, still there.
Bosnia, Klinton said was a ONE YEAR deal, still there.
This is the sort of entangling alliances the Founders spoke of and I mean.
